- Lucas: Hey everyone, welcome back to Learn French with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Episode 195! Can you believe it? Lucas: I know, we've come a long way. Last time we hit numbers 81 to 85. Today we're pushing a little further into the eighties. Luna: Nicely timed. I was wondering what comes after quatre vingt cinq. Lucas: Exactly. And speaking of moving forward, a quick note: we keep this show ad-free because of listeners like you. If Fexingo has been helping you make progress with your French, you can support that at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Luna: Yeah, it really helps us keep the lessons coming without interruptions. So thanks for considering. Lucas: Now, back to numbers. Let's start with 86: quatre-vingt-six. Say it with me: quatre-vingt-six. Luna: Quatre-vingt-six. Lucas: Great. Notice it's like quatre-vingt plus six. So quatre-vingt-six. 87: quatre vingt sept. Luna: quatre vingt sept. That one feels smooth. Lucas: Yes. Then 88: quatre vingt huit. Careful with the 'huit' – say it clearly: quatre vingt huit. Luna: quatre vingt huit. The 'huit' is a bit short. Lucas: Perfect. 89: quatre vingt neuf. Nearly 90. Luna: quatre vingt neuf. And then 90 is quatre vingt dix. Lucas: Right. quatre vingt dix. That's 80 + 10, essentially. Let's practice: I'll say a number, you repeat. Quatre-vingt-six. Luna: Quatre-vingt-six. Lucas: quatre vingt sept. Luna: quatre vingt sept. Lucas: quatre vingt huit. Luna: quatre vingt huit. Lucas: quatre vingt neuf. Luna: quatre vingt neuf. Lucas: quatre vingt dix. Luna: quatre vingt dix. Lucas: Awesome. Now let's put them in a tiny scene. Imagine you're at a market and an item costs 86 euros. The vendor says: 'C'est quatre-vingt-six euros.' You'd say: 'D'accord, voilà.' Good? Luna: D'accord, voilà. So if I see 89, I'd say 'quatre vingt neuf euros'. Lucas: Exactly. Or your friend's age: 'Mon grand-père a quatre vingt dix ans.' That's 90 years old. Luna: quatre vingt dix ans. That's impressive. Lucas: Alright, let's do a quick recall. What's 87? Luna: quatre vingt sept. Lucas: 88? Luna: quatre vingt huit. Lucas: 90? Luna: quatre vingt dix. Lucas: You've got them. Now try this: combine 86 and 89. 'J'ai acheté ça pour quatre-vingt-six euros et ça pour quatre vingt neuf euros.' Luna: J'ai acheté ça pour quatre-vingt-six euros et ça pour quatre vingt neuf euros. That's a good tongue twister. Lucas: It is. But you nailed it. Before we wrap, let's review the list: quatre-vingt-six, quatre vingt sept, quatre vingt huit, quatre vingt neuf, quatre vingt dix. Luna: All together: quatre-vingt-six, quatre vingt sept, quatre vingt huit, quatre vingt neuf, quatre vingt dix. Lucas: Fantastic. That's all for today. Practice these numbers in your daily life — look at prices, ages, whatever. A little each day goes a long way. Luna: And if you want more, check out Fexingo for other episodes. We'll be back soon with another small topic. Lucas: Until next time, keep practicing. À bientôt! Luna: À bientôt!
