- 0:06Speaker 1: I'm Jeff. I'm the drummer and I guess managing the band.
- 0:10Speaker 2: He's the manager. I'm Ben. Okay, Bender.
- 0:14Speaker 3: I'm the manager.
- 0:15Speaker 2: I said Steve, Barrett, Herb.
- 0:18Speaker 1: I'm the queen.
- 0:19Speaker 2: I'm the queen.
- 0:20Speaker 1: He's got many names. And then Bruce the Goat.
- 0:24Speaker 4: Bruce the Goat.
- 0:26Speaker 3: Just Bruce. Just Bruce.
- 0:28Speaker 2: Okay, Bruce.
- 0:31Speaker 5: I wanted to ask about the origins of the Goat.
- 0:34Speaker 5: Is that an appropriate story for?
- 0:37Speaker 6: Well, I kind of nicknamed him that because he rides
- 0:40Speaker 6: a surf ski.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Okay.
- 0:42Speaker 6: And in the surfing world, we call that a goat boat.
- 0:44Speaker 1: So it was like Bruce the Goat.
- 0:47Speaker 4: There you go.
- 0:48Speaker 2: It makes sense.
- 0:49Speaker 1: And he's old as well.
- 0:51Speaker 2: But he's too modest to be the goat.
- 0:54Speaker 1: He's too modest to be the goat. So he's just
- 0:56Speaker 1: Bruce the Goat. Oh, okay. Bruce the Goat.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Oh, I love it.
- 1:03Speaker 5: And look, guys, tell me about you guys. We were
- 1:07Speaker 5: just briefly discussing it. Tell me how you guys got started.
- 1:10Speaker 5: Tell me about the name, Gun of a Sheikhi.
- 1:12Speaker 4: It's quite unique.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:15Speaker 7: Bruce?
- 1:17Speaker 3: Well, we were on heavy drugs.
- 1:18Speaker 1: No.
- 1:19Speaker 2: Cut.
- 1:20Speaker 5: I tried the blue for the 500 milligram.
- 1:25Speaker 8: No, we just kind of talked it over. We just
- 1:28Speaker 8: discussed it and we went over different.
- 1:31Speaker 3: Name sort of thing. And then, you know, Jeff's like,
- 1:35Speaker 3: I like shooting things, everything. I love shooting. So we
- 1:38Speaker 3: put in gun. And then, you know, Ben was like, oh.
- 1:42Speaker 2: It's cheeky.
- 1:43Speaker 3: Oh, it's consciousness. And so we put in consciousness.
- 1:47Speaker 2: Gun in the cheek.
- 1:48Speaker 7: I think, and a lot of the context of our
- 1:51Speaker 7: songs is kind of like about, you know, just the
- 1:55Speaker 7: world and the shitstorm that's happening, you know.
- 1:57Speaker 2: So it's a comment.
- 1:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:00Speaker 2: So, you know, we are a gun of conscience. Yeah. Yeah.
- 2:04Speaker 4: Definitely.
- 2:05Speaker 3: It's wrong.
- 2:06Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 2:08Speaker 1: No, I love.
- 2:08Speaker 4: That is awesome.
- 2:09Speaker 5: I was stupidly thinking, naively thinking Ashiki was maybe a place. So, yeah,
- 2:14Speaker 5: I did not know that.
- 2:15Speaker 4: That is really cool. Consciousness.
- 2:18Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah.
- 2:19Speaker 4: That's wicked.
- 2:20Speaker 1: And so.
- 2:22Speaker 5: Now, I understand you guys are now in Brisbane, but
- 2:24Speaker 5: you originally formed in Newtown, Sydney.
- 2:27Speaker 4: That's correct.
- 2:29Speaker 2: Not really. Three of us emanate from that area. Yes.
- 2:35Speaker 2: We all kind of lived together in the 90s, you know.
- 2:39Speaker 7: But me and Steve had been jamming in the shed
- 2:41Speaker 7: for a long time.
- 2:42Speaker 2: He moved up to Brisbane.
- 2:44Speaker 7: I came to Brisbane via the UK after leaving Sydney.
- 2:47Speaker 2: And Jeff was travelling around Australia and Fiji with his family.
- 2:52Speaker 7: And we all kind of came back to Brisbane and
- 2:54Speaker 7: we were jamming in Steve's shed and making loads of noise.
- 3:00Speaker 7: And we went through a few things. We were like
- 3:02Speaker 7: a cover band for a little bit. We're called Not
- 3:04Speaker 7: Actually Them. And then we got rid of that and
- 3:08Speaker 7: then we were just making our own shit up. And
- 3:10Speaker 7: then we had a couple of singers that didn't kind
- 3:13Speaker 7: of work out.
- 3:15Speaker 2: And then Steve met Bruce and then.
- 3:20Speaker 8: Steve and I have our, our sons went to the
- 3:23Speaker 8: same school, Buranda.
- 3:24Speaker 3: And, and so we kind of met that way.
- 3:27Speaker 8: And then one time we met up and we did
- 3:31Speaker 8: a jam and.
- 3:32Speaker 3: He's like, oh yeah, yeah. I said, I don't do covers.
- 3:35Speaker 3: And so he's like, yeah, just one of these few songs.
- 3:37Speaker 3: And I was like, they're covers.
- 3:38Speaker 9: So it didn't really work out. And then later on
- 3:42Speaker 9: we got contracted again. He sent me some of his music,
- 3:46Speaker 9: which was awesome. And so he just said, Here's some
- 3:50Speaker 9: ideas I've got.
- 3:53Speaker 3: You make the lyrics. And so, yeah, just did the lyrics.
- 3:56Speaker 8: I'm from originally Newcastle and grew up in bands there
- 4:01Speaker 8: as a teenager.
- 4:01Speaker 2: Go to the nights.
- 4:02Speaker 1: I'm fresh. Oh, that's a good time. I hope you
- 4:06Speaker 1: say that.
- 4:07Speaker 8: But then moved to Byron Bay for years and years and, yeah,
- 4:11Speaker 8: and then moved to Byron Bay.
- 4:14Speaker 3: But, yeah, then moved up here and, yeah, so it
- 4:16Speaker 3: kind of worked out well.
- 4:17Speaker 8: Steve and I have kind of known each other for
- 4:19Speaker 8: a long time and it just worked out good. And, yeah,
- 4:22Speaker 8: that's kind of how we do our music is Steve
- 4:25Speaker 8: or a vendor is going to send me some bass.
- 4:29Speaker 8: And so they send me the music and then I
- 4:31Speaker 8: go over it and then get inspired of what they,
- 4:34Speaker 8: you know, what they.
- 4:36Speaker 3: Want it to be about and, yeah, make up lyrics.
- 4:40Speaker 2: Oh, beautiful.
- 4:40Speaker 4: So they send you their pieces and then you kind
- 4:42Speaker 4: of add to it and that's how it.
- 4:45Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, pretty much. Just the lyrics mainly.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:51Speaker 8: There's one song, I'm trying to get a few songs done, but, yeah,
- 4:57Speaker 8: there's one or two songs that I've kind of, We're
- 5:01Speaker 8: in the base four and stuff.
- 5:03Speaker 1: Stuff that he's.
- 5:04Speaker 2: Done for the league. We play with two bases, which
- 5:07Speaker 2: is pretty chaotic.
- 5:09Speaker 1: That's unique.
- 5:09Speaker 4: Yeah, that's different.
- 5:11Speaker 1: I love that.
- 5:12Speaker 2: Skyknock's played with three.
- 5:14Speaker 1: Three, that's right.
- 5:16Speaker 4: You're nearly there.
- 5:18Speaker 3: That's so wicked. We've only got two base players and
- 5:21Speaker 3: a driver.
- 5:23Speaker 4: Yeah, that's true. That's very true. And, look, we also
- 5:26Speaker 4: were talking a little bit before about you guys Does
- 5:30Speaker 4: it seem correct for me to say that you guys
- 5:32Speaker 4: have also a little bit of like a message or
- 5:35Speaker 4: a bit of a political sort of statement you guys
- 5:39Speaker 4: like to include in your music?
- 5:42Speaker 3: Yes.
- 5:43Speaker 2: 100%.
- 5:45Speaker 3: The world's got a chance.
- 5:45Speaker 6: Well, the world's in a bit of disarray and, you know,
- 5:50Speaker 6: there should be. We should be, I don't know, there's
- 5:52Speaker 6: so much stuff that's happening that we're not doing, supporting,
- 5:55Speaker 6: and we're not really helping the people as much as
- 5:57Speaker 6: we should be, and we could be easily.
- 6:00Speaker 1: It's kind of, I don't know.
- 6:02Speaker 8: And you talk to anyone, and everyone knows that the
- 6:05Speaker 8: government's a crap, that they just care about the rich,
- 6:09Speaker 8: and everyone knows it, but.
- 6:10Speaker 1: No one's talking about it.
- 6:12Speaker 3: There's some action happening behind that.
- 6:14Speaker 4: Yes, yes.
- 6:17Speaker 7: All these tech oligarchs are really just controlling our lives.
- 6:21Speaker 7: We're like, you know, just slipping into this maelstrom of fucksness.
- 6:26Speaker 3: You need to wake up.
- 6:27Speaker 2: We don't want.
- 6:29Speaker 3: To be fucked, so we're not going to be.
- 6:31Speaker 1: But the ironic thing is we're on the phone right now.
- 6:35Speaker 4: Yeah, that will be on social media.
- 6:38Speaker 1: I'm a vegan, but, you know, I get my broccoli
- 6:40Speaker 1: on a plane. I know.
- 6:43Speaker 4: What can you do? But that's modern times, isn't it?
- 6:46Speaker 4: It's a conundrum. It's a conundrum. It's very reminiscent to
- 6:50Speaker 4: me of like when the whole punk era started. I
- 6:52Speaker 4: love punk.
- 6:53Speaker 5: For anyone that doesn't know, punk is like my favourite genre.
- 6:57Speaker 5: This is why I love these guys. So to me
- 7:00Speaker 5: it feels like, you know, punk for the modern era,
- 7:02Speaker 5: like what's going on currently at the moment. Yes.
- 7:05Speaker 3: I grew up on Dead Kennedys and that sort of.
- 7:09Speaker 1: Expelled. Expelled. Exploited.
- 7:12Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 7:12Speaker 7: More of the guys like Billy Bragg, you know, that
- 7:15Speaker 7: had something really important to say.
- 7:18Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 7:18Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:19Speaker 3: And I didn't really.
- 7:20Speaker 8: Get into the music that was like, hey, let's just
- 7:23Speaker 8: make a punk song and just sing about the girls
- 7:26Speaker 8: or stuff like that.
- 7:27Speaker 1: Look at Rage Against the Machine.
- 7:29Speaker 10: Like, yeah, into the political side of punk really when
- 7:33Speaker 10: I was growing up. And I kind of lived on
- 7:36Speaker 10: the streets of Newcastle as a teenager, so I kind
- 7:39Speaker 10: of had a different background, a bit of a different
- 7:41Speaker 10: perspective from a lot of people.
- 7:44Speaker 3: Yeah, so it's, yeah, political, I think it's important. Everyone's like, oh,
- 7:49Speaker 3: I don't want to be political. We need to open
- 7:52Speaker 3: our eyes.
- 7:52Speaker 5: Yeah, I think it's brave and courageous. I know a
- 7:55Speaker 5: lot of people, especially in the music industry, want to stray,
- 7:58Speaker 5: right now as well, want to stray way away from
- 8:01Speaker 5: saying anything that they think could cause an uproar. But
- 8:03Speaker 5: I think that's what we need to do, to be.
- 8:05Speaker 1: Honest with you.
- 8:07Speaker 6: Well, Rachel's machine got away with it and I guess
- 8:11Speaker 6: we're going to try, we're not saying we're Rachel's machine.
- 8:14Speaker 1: But we're definitely saying something.
- 8:16Speaker 2: We're definitely not experience. Exactly.
- 8:19Speaker 4: Exactly.
- 8:20Speaker 1: I agree.
- 8:21Speaker 4: I agree.
- 8:22Speaker 8: If you can get across to some people at your
- 8:24Speaker 8: gig and stuff, like we've had, you know, really good
- 8:27Speaker 8: reviews from some of the people watching us and, you know, going, yeah, that's,
- 8:31Speaker 8: you know, awesome sort of thing.
- 8:33Speaker 3: So, you know, you want to inspire people to do
- 8:35Speaker 3: stuff for.
- 8:36Speaker 6: Themselves and, Actually, I just want to raise money to
- 8:39Speaker 6: help people. I think that's what we need to focus on.
- 8:41Speaker 6: We're not really in it to like, let's be rich.
- 8:43Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. Jeff, we're not going to be rich.
- 8:48Speaker 5: What?
- 8:48Speaker 1: That's what I'm doing.
- 8:50Speaker 6: That's my, I wake up in the morning and go, hey,
- 8:52Speaker 6: I'm going to get on Instagram and I'm going to
- 8:54Speaker 6: target this or whatever. Or send people this email or
- 8:57Speaker 6: try and get up with people that are already doing fundraising.
- 9:00Speaker 1: I just think that's important as well.
- 9:02Speaker 6: That's getting our message across and trying to, if we
- 9:05Speaker 6: can't change anything, at least we're trying to help.
- 9:07Speaker 8: Yeah, and I've had years of protesting experience sort of thing.
- 9:13Speaker 3: I was activist officer.
- 9:14Speaker 8: For Byron Environment Centre when it was pretty active sort
- 9:18Speaker 8: of thing.
- 9:19Speaker 2: You agitator.
- 9:20Speaker 3: Oh, mate, I did agitator quite a lot.
- 9:24Speaker 8: Yeah, so it's kind of that background sort of thing.
- 9:28Speaker 3: You've just got to get in there and really face
- 9:31Speaker 3: up to it. And, you know, you've got to do... Like,
- 9:33Speaker 3: I ran for the Greens as a candidate in.
- 9:37Speaker 8: in new england and it's all different.
- 9:40Speaker 5: All these stuff's coming out when it's come out yeah.
- 9:43Speaker 8: You've got to do it and this is one of
- 9:45Speaker 8: the ways you can do it is through music is
- 9:47Speaker 8: one of the best.
- 9:48Speaker 2: You could have beaten barnaby joyce actually.
- 9:50Speaker 1: So we're learning new things about the goat.
- 9:52Speaker 3: Every day it seems yes exactly.
- 9:59Speaker 1: Here's the goat. Yes.
- 10:01Speaker 4: Oh, that is wicked. Yeah, well done. And actually, one
- 10:05Speaker 4: of my first interactions with you guys was, like, this
- 10:08Speaker 4: is no bullshit when the guys say that they do
- 10:10Speaker 4: a lot of, like, they're interested in fundraising and things
- 10:14Speaker 4: for a good cause. One of my first interactions with
- 10:16Speaker 4: them was, Donating through their Instagram page.
- 10:18Speaker 5: So everyone, please do make sure you check out their
- 10:21Speaker 5: Instagram for more ways to donate to their causes.
- 10:24Speaker 4: A lot of their shows coming up as well. I
- 10:27Speaker 4: believe you have a fundraiser coming up.
- 10:28Speaker 2: Don't you?
- 10:29Speaker 6: Yeah, in January.
- 10:30Speaker 1: January, yeah. Did you want to talk a.
- 10:32Speaker 4: Little bit more about that? That seems like a busy
- 10:34Speaker 4: month for you guys.
- 10:35Speaker 6: Yeah, so I've got two dates at the Crowbar, the
- 10:38Speaker 6: 8th and 9th of January. So the bands are all
- 10:42Speaker 6: lined up. So I've got six bands each day. on
- 10:45Speaker 6: the Friday and the Saturday night and just going to
- 10:46Speaker 6: try and raise money for Bravehearts for kids. Obviously, they
- 10:50Speaker 6: were in, you know, in a bad situation in life.
- 10:53Speaker 6: So I'm just trying to rally. I've actually sent all
- 10:55Speaker 6: my messages out to the richer people that I know
- 10:58Speaker 6: and say, you know, start donating. So they're starting to
- 11:02Speaker 6: do that, which is good. They haven't done it yet,
- 11:04Speaker 6: but when they say they.
- 11:05Speaker 2: Do, they will.
- 11:05Speaker 1: So there's plenty of time. I don't want to rush it.
- 11:09Speaker 1: I don't want to be like, you have to give
- 11:10Speaker 1: me money. I just.
- 11:13Speaker 3: He gives that to us.
- 11:14Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 11:15Speaker 6: I tell them to give us $ 5.
- 11:19Speaker 3: Every game, yeah.
- 11:20Speaker 6: It's not about how much money. It's just like anything's
- 11:23Speaker 6: going to help. And if not, I've had a crack.
- 11:26Speaker 2: And it's about raising awareness.
- 11:28Speaker 6: It's actually awareness for me and I think for the
- 11:31Speaker 6: guys as well.
- 11:32Speaker 1: I think the more we are aware of what's going
- 11:35Speaker 1: on around us is what's important. And we need to
- 11:39Speaker 1: speak up. Definitely.
- 11:42Speaker 5: I love this. I, you know, I think it's so
- 11:46Speaker 5: brave and just fantastic that there's a band that not
- 11:50Speaker 5: only wants to say something, but you guys are actually
- 11:53Speaker 5: putting the action behind it as well.
- 11:54Speaker 3: That's, yeah, it's adorable.
- 11:56Speaker 1: I'll start the fundraiser. There is some money there, like
- 11:58Speaker 1: you've donated, so.
- 12:01Speaker 3: We are very brave.
- 12:01Speaker 1: Yeah, we are brave. I just think this is such a.
- 12:06Speaker 6: Beautiful world and there's a lot of beautiful people in it.
- 12:09Speaker 1: I just think we can just make it better.
- 12:11Speaker 5: 100%. And what's on the horizons for Gun of Ashiki
- 12:16Speaker 5: are we talking? Because I know we've only got some
- 12:18Speaker 5: live demos out, don't we?
- 12:21Speaker 1: Yeah, we've got two subs. Are we doing an EP?
- 12:24Speaker 6: Yeah, so generally he's going to be our EP launch.
- 12:31Speaker 1: So we're still deciding on how we're.
- 12:33Speaker 6: Going to tackle that. If we're going to just be
- 12:37Speaker 6: a self-title or call it something. But there's three more
- 12:40Speaker 6: subs that will.
- 12:40Speaker 1: Come out of that.
- 12:41Speaker 4: That's amazing. Fantastic.
- 12:42Speaker 6: We'll probably drop that. We'll have it ready for probably
- 12:45Speaker 6: just– it's actually ready to go now. It's just we
- 12:47Speaker 6: don't have the artwork yet.
- 12:49Speaker 2: And then a world tour, I think.
- 12:50Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 12:52Speaker 2: Yes.
- 12:52Speaker 5: That's all.
- 12:54Speaker 1: So if you want to take us on board, let's go.
- 12:57Speaker 2: These guys. Hell, yeah.
- 13:00Speaker 4: That's it. Dream big.
- 13:02Speaker 6: Well, we've got a few gigs in March as well
- 13:05Speaker 6: down the Gold Coast and then I'm starting to talk
- 13:07Speaker 6: to other venues to do stuff towards the end of
- 13:09Speaker 6: the year. I don't want to saturate ourselves in the market.
- 13:13Speaker 1: I think we just want to have fun.
- 13:16Speaker 6: It's not about chasing every gig and every venue and
- 13:19Speaker 6: trying to make money. I just want every gig to
- 13:22Speaker 6: kind of count and I want to be there. I
- 13:24Speaker 6: don't want it to be like, oh, yeah, it's just
- 13:25Speaker 6: another gig.
- 13:26Speaker 3: But it's also the experience.
- 13:28Speaker 8: It's a great experience doing a gig.
- 13:32Speaker 1: It's fun.
- 13:33Speaker 3: It's really fun.
- 13:34Speaker 6: It's a hobby as well as a hobby for most
- 13:38Speaker 6: of us. At the same time, it's trying to send
- 13:41Speaker 6: a message.
- 13:42Speaker 7: I kind of peaked because I played on the same
- 13:44Speaker 7: bill as my two sons. My son's band was after us.
- 13:49Speaker 2: And then my other son's band, Headline. So that's me.
- 13:52Speaker 3: Oh, that's awesome.
- 13:53Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 13:55Speaker 4: That's crazy.
- 13:55Speaker 6: He's actually, his boys are playing, he probably doesn't even know,
- 13:58Speaker 6: but his boys are playing in January as well.
- 13:59Speaker 1: Blatant Saint and Sapien.
- 14:02Speaker 5: Beautiful.
- 14:02Speaker 6: So they are on the medal day. So the Friday,
- 14:04Speaker 6: I've made a medal in kind of emo slash shoegaze.
- 14:08Speaker 6: I don't even know what that means, but shoegaze.
- 14:10Speaker 1: Yeah. That's what the kids are calling it now? Yes.
- 14:13Speaker 1: And the rest of the Friday and then.
- 14:14Speaker 6: On the Saturday night is the punk slash rock.
- 14:19Speaker 1: Fiesta.
- 14:19Speaker 6: So two different kind of genres going on. So Ben's
- 14:22Speaker 6: Boys are playing on the Friday.
- 14:24Speaker 2: That's wicked.
- 14:25Speaker 5: What would you guys like to say to anyone that
- 14:28Speaker 5: hasn't seen one.
- 14:29Speaker 4: Of your shows before or hasn't listened to your music?
- 14:34Speaker 6: I think we're fun and I think we're quite energetic
- 14:41Speaker 6: and I think we're not trying too hard to be
- 14:43Speaker 6: something that we're not.
- 14:44Speaker 3: So.
- 14:45Speaker 9: Just.
- 14:45Speaker 7: Leave room in the mosh pit for Bruce because he
- 14:47Speaker 7: loves to get involved.
- 14:48Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 14:50Speaker 4: That mohawk is awesome, by the way. I love that.
- 14:54Speaker 8: The scene now is just to watch and stuff, so
- 14:57Speaker 8: we're trying to get people activated and get in there
- 14:59Speaker 8: and start to dance and stuff.
- 15:01Speaker 3: So, like, we're one of the first bands, so our
- 15:04Speaker 3: job is to really fucking push it and go.
- 15:07Speaker 6: So it's kind of rather just showing them, like, here
- 15:10Speaker 6: to set the fucking time.
- 15:11Speaker 3: As well as sending a message of, like, fucking.
- 15:14Speaker 8: You know, jump around, let's get activated and fucking go
- 15:17Speaker 8: for it.
- 15:19Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 15:20Speaker 1: It's never too late, as Penny said.
- 15:24Speaker 4: Absolutely. I definitely agree.
- 15:26Speaker 5: And just a little bit on that as well, Jeff,
- 15:29Speaker 5: I don't know if you want to elaborate a bit more,
- 15:31Speaker 5: but you have a pretty interesting backstory yourself.
- 15:35Speaker 1: Did you want to talk a little bit about it?
- 15:37Speaker 1: Ben and I both do because we're both chefs.
- 15:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:41Speaker 6: So Ben O'Donoghue, everybody, and Geoff Campbell. I'm not as famous,
- 15:47Speaker 6: but we've actually worked together as chefs for.
- 15:52Speaker 2: Geoff was my apprentice.
- 15:53Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:54Speaker 2: Years ago, back in Sydney.
- 15:56Speaker 7: I had my days off and he came into work
- 15:59Speaker 7: and the head chef goes, you wouldn't believe who I
- 16:01Speaker 7: just fucking employed.
- 16:03Speaker 2: This kid's got a blue mohawk, like.
- 16:06Speaker 7: What okay and the next day Jeff turns up he's
- 16:09Speaker 7: got no.
- 16:09Speaker 11: Hair and uh yeah shaved so he was like our
- 16:16Speaker 11: young apprentice and then um like yeah I went off
- 16:20Speaker 11: to the UK and worked over there for a number
- 16:22Speaker 11: of years and Jeff moved over some years after that
- 16:25Speaker 11: and we worked together in uh in London wow.
- 16:29Speaker 2: Wow, incredible.
- 16:30Speaker 4: Yeah, if anyone doesn't, I've seen you on.
- 16:32Speaker 6: We actually have quite a long story. We could go
- 16:37Speaker 6: on for hours about, you know, the whole food journey together.
- 16:41Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 16:42Speaker 3: Still zero given to us.
- 16:43Speaker 5: LAUGHTER Well, we've got to change that, I feel like.
- 16:47Speaker 5: Maybe increase the band's morale.
- 16:49Speaker 2: You're a vegetarian, then.
- 16:50Speaker 1: You're a vegetarian. I can't do it.
- 16:51Speaker 2: Don't make it still. I'm a vegetarian.
- 16:53Speaker 1: Don't do vegetarian.
- 16:55Speaker 5: No.
- 16:55Speaker 2: I'm an avocado.
- 16:57Speaker 5: But anyone interested, look into their backstory. It is really,
- 17:00Speaker 5: really interesting from the little bit I read. Also, let's
- 17:05Speaker 5: just quickly touch on some of the influences from you guys. Obviously,
- 17:10Speaker 5: you know, coming up or starting in that Newtown scene,
- 17:14Speaker 5: living together. I'm sure you guys have had some pretty
- 17:17Speaker 5: incredible bands, live bands that you've seen and influences. Yeah.
- 17:23Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:23Speaker 7: Well, from those days for me, like bands like Brother Brick, Asteroid, B612.
- 17:29Speaker 2: Yeah, the Hard Ons.
- 17:29Speaker 1: The Hard Ons.
- 17:31Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 17:32Speaker 4: Classic.
- 17:32Speaker 7: Nighter Cruise, Front End Loader, all those kind of like,
- 17:37Speaker 7: you know, all those standard kind of like Aussie pub bands.
- 17:41Speaker 2: Yes. And then.
- 17:44Speaker 6: Besides the overseas influences like Helmet or Fugazi or.
- 17:49Speaker 2: I'm a big fan of Radio Birdman. Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 17:53Speaker 7: Andy Rollins and all of that kind of Detroit rock.
- 17:57Speaker 1: Yeah, sort of tendencies.
- 17:59Speaker 5: Yes.
- 18:00Speaker 2: Body count, body count.
- 18:01Speaker 1: Body count.
- 18:02Speaker 3: I grew up in the Newcastle scene, so I grew up...
- 18:06Speaker 3: My friends... I played in a band, but my friends
- 18:09Speaker 3: played in the Hopes and in the Terraplanes.
- 18:11Speaker 8: So we used to go around and do gigs and stuff,
- 18:14Speaker 8: and we used to just mosh and get wasted.
- 18:17Speaker 2: They had a hardcore scene in Newcastle.
- 18:20Speaker 3: Newcastle had a really good scene. It was a really
- 18:23Speaker 3: good underground scene.
- 18:24Speaker 6: The 90s were all very lucky to grow up in
- 18:27Speaker 6: that era. I got to see Nirvana. I went to
- 18:31Speaker 6: see Nirvana.
- 18:33Speaker 1: So things like that, Soundgarden at Selina's, just little things
- 18:37Speaker 1: like that. Yeah, isn't it? The whole jam.
- 18:39Speaker 2: Is sort of cool.
- 18:40Speaker 6: Like, you know, I remember us all, me, Herb and Ben,
- 18:45Speaker 6: Steve and Ben, we went and seen Beastie.
- 18:47Speaker 1: Boys and Helmet at the Horton Pavilion.
- 18:50Speaker 2: Crazy, isn't it?
- 18:52Speaker 1: Yeah, the 90s, we were very lucky.
- 18:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:56Speaker 5: See, I was born in 92, so, you know, I
- 18:58Speaker 5: wasn't really around for much of it. But my parents,
- 19:01Speaker 5: something similar they shared, they went and saw Nirvana at
- 19:05Speaker 5: I think it was the Kujube Hotel or it could
- 19:07Speaker 5: have been Selena's, one of the two.
- 19:09Speaker 1: Yeah, that was Selena's.
- 19:11Speaker 4: Oh, there you go. Yeah, incredible. I'm like, what?
- 19:18Speaker 5: Yes.
- 19:19Speaker 6: You're very, very fortunate.
- 19:23Speaker 2: I was from Perth, so Nirvana was supposed to get
- 19:27Speaker 2: to Perth. I bought tickets. Friends of mine went and
- 19:29Speaker 2: bought tickets to go to the big day out.
- 19:31Speaker 1: They didn't go. They played next day in Sydney.
- 19:32Speaker 7: No, they had some drug problem in South Australia.
- 19:37Speaker 2: Apparently the heroin there is pretty strong.
- 19:39Speaker 7: And they cancelled their show, so I missed out.
- 19:43Speaker 3: I got to see them. That's incredible.
- 19:49Speaker 1: Very fortunate.
- 19:50Speaker 4: Yes.
- 19:52Speaker 2: Yeah, amazing.
- 19:53Speaker 4: Was there anything else you guys would like to say
- 19:56Speaker 4: before we conclude?
- 19:58Speaker 1: Just download our music and have a listen. We're just
- 20:01Speaker 1: out there to have a crack.
- 20:02Speaker 2: Play it loud.
- 20:03Speaker 1: Play it loud. Have fun. And you know what? Just
- 20:05Speaker 1: enjoy yourself.
- 20:06Speaker 8: And get inspired to do a band of your own
- 20:09Speaker 8: and just go out there and just hit the fucking system.
- 20:12Speaker 2: Fuck the system. Make some noise. Fuck AI. Yes.
- 20:17Speaker 5: Yes.
- 20:17Speaker 4: Something I hope you guys never, ever do is have
- 20:20Speaker 4: an AI poster.
- 20:22Speaker 2: I know you won't.
- 20:23Speaker 1: No, we haven't.
- 20:25Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 20:26Speaker 1: Luckily.
- 20:26Speaker 2: My sons have all said, you can't do AI.
- 20:30Speaker 1: Yeah. And even my kids as well. They're like, no AI.
- 20:34Speaker 1: It's actually quite interesting how the kids aren't even into it. Yeah.
- 20:38Speaker 2: No, exactly.
- 20:38Speaker 4: Yeah, that's it.
- 20:39Speaker 1: It's actually a beautiful thing.
- 20:41Speaker 6: So I don't know who's getting behind all this AI
- 20:43Speaker 6: crap because no one really likes it.
- 20:44Speaker 2: I know.
- 20:45Speaker 7: It's awkward, mate, because they want to get rid of
- 20:48Speaker 7: real people doing real jobs.
- 20:49Speaker 4: Doing actual jobs. That's it.
- 20:51Speaker 1: Yeah. Absolutely.
- 20:53Speaker 5: If anyone out there is looking for your next grassroots
- 20:57Speaker 5: punk fresh hit of music, please check out Gun of
- 21:02Speaker 5: the Sheiky.
- 21:02Speaker 4: Guys, thank you so much for your time today.
- 21:04Speaker 1: It's been amazing.
