- 0:00Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Deren.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Hey, lu Turminella, Welcome back to Terminelo's take. First of all,
- 0:10Speaker 2: we're one week away from Fanatics best. Can you believe that?
- 0:14Speaker 1: I thought it seems like you just wore that last year?
- 0:17Speaker 2: I know, well it's almost about six seven months apart,
- 0:19Speaker 2: so I kind of like it. In June. It's got
- 0:22Speaker 2: a different field. The Yanks are home this time, Mets
- 0:24Speaker 2: were home last year, so it's going to be interesting.
- 0:27Speaker 2: But I want to thank you because I feel like
- 0:30Speaker 2: you helped me get to this point with Fanatics, and
- 0:32Speaker 2: you're a big reason why maybe they're partnering with us here.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Well, thank you, Alex, and good to be with you
- 0:38Speaker 1: on this Friday afternoon. Got a lot going on in
- 0:44Speaker 1: sports right now, and I guess where do you want
- 0:46Speaker 1: to start? You want to start with, well, yeah I do,
- 0:49Speaker 1: but not so much the game first. Okay.
- 0:52Speaker 2: I find it awesome that Kenny Albert got to call
- 0:55Speaker 2: that Stanley Cup classic last night on his father's eighty
- 1:00Speaker 2: fourth birthday. And as you know, I think Marv Albert
- 1:02Speaker 2: was like king of TNT for many years.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Marv Albert was the king of TNT. You can make
- 1:10Speaker 1: an argument that he was the king of NBC. He's
- 1:13Speaker 1: the king of New York sports as far as radio
- 1:17Speaker 1: and TV announcing go, from the sixties when sports took
- 1:21Speaker 1: that next level to what it's been been today as
- 1:25Speaker 1: far as radio and TV broadcasting go. And Marv's Marv's
- 1:30Speaker 1: beyond iconic. He's good at everything that he touched. And Kenny,
- 1:36Speaker 1: you know, I'm watching the game last night. I've been
- 1:38Speaker 1: watching obviously a lot of these playoffs, and Kenny Albert,
- 1:42Speaker 1: we know he's an outstanding announcer. I think he's raised
- 1:44Speaker 1: his game and he's Stanley Cup Finals. I really do
- 1:49Speaker 1: think his.
- 1:49Speaker 2: Dad did do hockey. Didn't he do ranger hockey?
- 1:51Speaker 1: Yes he did. He did ranger hockey from from sty
- 1:55Speaker 1: three to ninety seven. And obviously he called the Game seven,
- 2:02Speaker 1: the first and third periods of Game seven on on
- 2:06Speaker 1: w f A n and how he rose did the
- 2:08Speaker 1: second the second period because a lot of the time
- 2:12Speaker 1: there was so many conference flicks for Marv at that
- 2:14Speaker 1: time with NBC basketball, when when the NBC was on,
- 2:21Speaker 1: when the NBA was on NBC. But Marv's iconic and
- 2:25Speaker 1: his son is definitely following us footsteps, and I think
- 2:29Speaker 1: it's funny You mentioned Kenny because, like I said, I
- 2:32Speaker 1: think he's had a tremendous NHL Playoffs broadcast.
- 2:37Speaker 2: And it's not been born to call, so he's had
- 2:39Speaker 2: to up his game every period. I feel like, I mean,
- 2:42Speaker 2: Sam Bennett seconds to go, what a ristshot? I mean,
- 2:46Speaker 2: I know I did not expect, you know, Florida to
- 2:50Speaker 2: do that with seven seconds left, but Bennett what he
- 2:52Speaker 2: did last year really and then dry title second time
- 2:55Speaker 2: in a row in this Stanley Cup final. H wow, man,
- 2:59Speaker 2: just some wow moments. This Sanley Cup over all.
- 3:02Speaker 1: So far, no doubt about it. It's been a It's
- 3:04Speaker 1: been a riveting final like we thought it was going
- 3:07Speaker 1: to be. Going in. Florida is going to regret after
- 3:12Speaker 1: four dominant periods down in Sunrise of allowing Edmonton to
- 3:18Speaker 1: get back in the game and the Oilers overcame a
- 3:21Speaker 1: ton of adversity to come back from a three gold deficit.
- 3:26Speaker 1: You know, no team plays better with the lead than
- 3:28Speaker 1: the Florida Panthers, and twice in a series they've lost
- 3:32Speaker 1: the two games where the Florida Panthers had a three
- 3:36Speaker 1: to one lead and a three to nothing lead. Alex,
- 3:38Speaker 1: I'm gonna be honest with you after the first period
- 3:41Speaker 1: last night, I thought Edmonton was cooked, not only for
- 3:44Speaker 1: last night, really for the series. Now I'm gonna I'm
- 3:47Speaker 1: gonna stick with what I said last week. I think
- 3:50Speaker 1: this is Edmonton's time. I really do well.
- 3:54Speaker 2: You know, the tripping away to the goalie that really
- 3:56Speaker 2: was outstanding. You you look at Babrovski versus Egor last
- 4:00Speaker 2: commence Final and then of course Stanley Cup. He was
- 4:02Speaker 2: just on top of his game this year.
- 4:04Speaker 1: Though.
- 4:05Speaker 2: It's almost like Edmonton read the book on him a
- 4:07Speaker 2: little better. I don't know, but it's like they did
- 4:09Speaker 2: a scouty report a year later.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Well again, he's been fantastic, So it's not like he
- 4:13Speaker 1: is giving up a bad goals. The goal that made
- 4:17Speaker 1: it three to two Nurses goal last night, that's a
- 4:20Speaker 1: goal that he would nine times out of ten he
- 4:22Speaker 1: would have stopped. But this is what happened real last night.
- 4:28Speaker 1: They were up three to nothing. They committed a penalty early,
- 4:33Speaker 1: I think Mikolo with the slash. They scored. Edmonton scored
- 4:36Speaker 1: on a power play, then they got another power play
- 4:39Speaker 1: on a delay of game. Even though hed scoring that
- 4:42Speaker 1: delay a game penalty, they got back into the game.
- 4:46Speaker 1: They got back into the flow and they dominated the
- 4:50Speaker 1: second period and tied the game. They had the Carolina
- 4:54Speaker 1: Ford check was invisible in the second in the second
- 4:58Speaker 1: period and it looked like they were gonna walk out
- 5:01Speaker 1: of there with a four to three victory before they
- 5:03Speaker 1: tied it up Florida did you know in the dying seconds.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Then in overtime it looked like Florida re established that
- 5:11Speaker 1: fort check, but on a bad change, Edmonton was able
- 5:16Speaker 1: to take advantage of it. And then and in the
- 5:18Speaker 1: first overtime, the benches are farthest away from your from
- 5:22Speaker 1: your neck, so ka Chuck went off dry style, came on. Uh.
- 5:28Speaker 1: He was wide open. Uh at mid ice. He took
- 5:31Speaker 1: the puck, he saw that he had Greer on him
- 5:34Speaker 1: and not a defenseman. He swooped it towards the net,
- 5:37Speaker 1: really just trying to get it on goal. Really wasn't
- 5:39Speaker 1: a shot and Uh, unfortunately for the uh Florida Panthers,
- 5:46Speaker 1: it deflected in off Mikola for which and it was
- 5:50Speaker 1: a fortunate goal for Edmonton. But that you know, that's
- 5:53Speaker 1: that's the that's the brain.
- 5:54Speaker 2: While there were two other shots that were there was
- 5:57Speaker 2: one that hit the crossbar, by the way.
- 5:59Speaker 1: By Bennett.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Then it hit the crossbar, and then at the other
- 6:03Speaker 2: end it was like Lebrowski was sliding and and and
- 6:06Speaker 2: that's how he blocked the puck. I don't know how
- 6:07Speaker 2: that puck didn't go in though.
- 6:08Speaker 1: Me to Alex on that scramble in front of Barbrowski,
- 6:11Speaker 1: I did not know how that puck stayed out.
- 6:14Speaker 2: But these pucks have been taking some weird bounces for
- 6:17Speaker 2: sure this season. Now nob Block is doing Chris non
- 6:22Speaker 2: Block things. He's changing out the goalie when he feels
- 6:24Speaker 2: he needs to. And I know Skinner didn't have a
- 6:26Speaker 2: bad period, but that change might have changed things for
- 6:29Speaker 2: these Boilers.
- 6:31Speaker 1: Without a doubt. I mean, I don't think he pulled
- 6:34Speaker 1: He pulled h Skinner because Skinner was playing poorly. He
- 6:38Speaker 1: gave up three goals, but one of them was on
- 6:42Speaker 1: the power play. And really they the seventeen shots that
- 6:48Speaker 1: Florida had in the first period last night, a lot
- 6:51Speaker 1: of them were high quality shots. Skinner probably saved them
- 6:55Speaker 1: from being down four or five nothing at the end
- 6:57Speaker 1: of the first period. But what what non Block did,
- 7:00Speaker 1: There's what many coaches did. He put in the backup
- 7:02Speaker 1: goalie to wake them up and it did wake It
- 7:06Speaker 1: did wake up the Edmonton Oilist. Along with those penalties
- 7:09Speaker 1: which got them back in the game, gave them confidence
- 7:12Speaker 1: and they were able to overcome a three to nothing
- 7:15Speaker 1: lead at the end of the first period, the first
- 7:17Speaker 1: time that has ever happened in the Stanley Cup Final. Ever,
- 7:21Speaker 1: no team had ever come back from a three nothing
- 7:24Speaker 1: defasit at the end of the first period. Edmonton changed
- 7:27Speaker 1: history last night, and.
- 7:29Speaker 2: It was only hockey records are not as hyped up.
- 7:32Speaker 2: But I mean Dry title, by the way, has the
- 7:35Speaker 2: most overtime goals. I believe that's pretty impressive.
- 7:39Speaker 1: Well, he's a great goal scorer. He has thirty points
- 7:42Speaker 1: two straight playoff seasons. He's his fifth player to accomplish that.
- 7:46Speaker 1: And you know, you can list the other ones who
- 7:48Speaker 1: have done it, Gretzky, Lemieux. You know the greats are
- 7:52Speaker 1: the great So Dry style.
- 7:54Speaker 2: Who is how proud of Wayne? Look up there by
- 7:56Speaker 2: the way with TNT. He just looks like a proud
- 7:58Speaker 2: pop of watching this, you know, come back and win that.
- 8:02Speaker 2: He looks pretty happy.
- 8:03Speaker 1: I gotta say, you see, I really can't tell that
- 8:06Speaker 1: to me. He he's so what should I say? He
- 8:10Speaker 1: can't tell what he's what he's feeling like. But yeah,
- 8:16Speaker 1: he was, and he was spending some time last night
- 8:18Speaker 1: in the suite with Tallis Swift and Travis Kelsey, so
- 8:21Speaker 1: he was having a good time.
- 8:25Speaker 2: Absolutely, that's one guy I hope. To me, we'll have
- 8:27Speaker 2: to see if that ever happened, But will meet again,
- 8:29Speaker 2: I should say, so, we'll see. But no, it was great.
- 8:32Speaker 2: I just look at I look at that panel by
- 8:34Speaker 2: the way, and I think to myself, you have two Rangers,
- 8:36Speaker 2: and I know Gretzky editors career with the Rangers, but
- 8:39Speaker 2: we have two legends who are rangers alone, and then
- 8:42Speaker 2: you have Anson Carter was also a Ranger as well.
- 8:44Speaker 2: I mean, we've got some Ranger ties in that broadcast,
- 8:47Speaker 2: both both with Kenny and these three.
- 8:50Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean obviously Gretzky's and Edmonton oiler. Of course,
- 8:55Speaker 1: Lundquist is the best goaliean Ranger of history. Even though
- 8:59Speaker 1: we didn't win a Cup up, but he's the best
- 9:01Speaker 1: goalian range of history. Anson Carter played for many teams,
- 9:03Speaker 1: so you know there's however you want to put the
- 9:06Speaker 1: connection there. And Liam Mchune does a great job as
- 9:10Speaker 1: the host. He's he's he's a big time talent on
- 9:15Speaker 1: that on that panel. You got a quarterback that panel,
- 9:19Speaker 1: just like Ernie Johnson does with the you know, inside
- 9:22Speaker 1: the NBA. That's a tough job when you have that
- 9:24Speaker 1: many you have that many personalities up there on the
- 9:28Speaker 1: panel with you and trying to get everybody in there. Uh,
- 9:32Speaker 1: And they do a good job of getting everybody everybody involved.
- 9:40Speaker 1: But Game Game five tomorrow night is gonna be is
- 9:42Speaker 1: gonna be interesting. And obviously Florida isn't afraid of being
- 9:48Speaker 1: on the road. They haven't had home ice in any
- 9:51Speaker 1: of these playoff series this playoff season, so that's not
- 9:55Speaker 1: going to bother them. And I think for the Oilers,
- 9:57Speaker 1: I mean, the Oilers got to their defense men are
- 10:01Speaker 1: just going to have to move the puff quicker as zone.
- 10:03Speaker 1: And that's what they did a little bit, you know,
- 10:06Speaker 1: last night after the first period, because the previous four periods,
- 10:09Speaker 1: the six to one abomination for Edmonton on in Game three,
- 10:14Speaker 1: in the first period last night, they weren't doing that,
- 10:17Speaker 1: and I, again, Alex I thought they were done, but
- 10:20Speaker 1: they came back, which has made Game five great and
- 10:25Speaker 1: which means that on Tuesday night, somebody's going to be
- 10:28Speaker 1: playing for a chance to win the Stanley Cup.
- 10:33Speaker 2: Now let me yeah, and by the way, talk about
- 10:36Speaker 2: the defense. Look, Hymen being out, I did not foresee
- 10:40Speaker 2: the Oilers. I mean I knew they could do something,
- 10:42Speaker 2: but Hyman plays.
- 10:42Speaker 1: A big role.
- 10:43Speaker 2: So I'm impressed they've overcome that lost too.
- 10:46Speaker 1: Well. He actually what they missed with him is he
- 10:50Speaker 1: was when he got hurt, he was leaning the NHL
- 10:52Speaker 1: in hits, even though he's a goal scorer. He was
- 10:56Speaker 1: leaning the NHL and hits for the playoffs. So they
- 10:59Speaker 1: missed a little bit of of his physicality against a
- 11:02Speaker 1: very physical Florida Panther team.
- 11:05Speaker 2: So the other well finished, and then we'll go to
- 11:10Speaker 2: the other final.
- 11:11Speaker 1: Well, I mean the Oils have enough offense, you know,
- 11:14Speaker 1: even with Hyman's injury, but like they missed his physicality,
- 11:18Speaker 1: and this would.
- 11:18Speaker 2: Be nice just to see Connor get his ring and
- 11:20Speaker 2: then you know, we can we can focus on maybe
- 11:24Speaker 2: Rangers hockey. And I want to get to Rangers hockey
- 11:26Speaker 2: now because although it's not a national trade, although it
- 11:32Speaker 2: feels like a bigger trade is when the Oilers traded
- 11:37Speaker 2: Grati skated the Kings. This Crider trade is huge. I mean,
- 11:41Speaker 2: people are mourning this right now.
- 11:44Speaker 1: Well, Alex, it's nowhere in the air when Edmundon trade
- 11:48Speaker 1: dreads to Los Angeles. I mean. Chris Cryder obviously is
- 11:53Speaker 1: one of the old time great Rangers, a third old
- 11:55Speaker 1: time Ranger goals scorer three twenty six. He was you
- 11:59Speaker 1: know how much I like him as a player. He
- 12:01Speaker 1: was a two hundred foot player. He could play on
- 12:03Speaker 1: the power play.
- 12:04Speaker 2: Well, let me say, the shock factor though, feels like
- 12:05Speaker 2: it would have been in ninety three shot.
- 12:08Speaker 1: The shock factor locally for a Ranger fans, Yeah, is there.
- 12:12Speaker 1: But let's face it, we knew last year that the
- 12:15Speaker 1: Rangers put him on the block, and he was a
- 12:17Speaker 1: healthy scratch for a game against the Devils this year,
- 12:21Speaker 1: so it you know, it's not like they traded him.
- 12:25Speaker 1: And I don't think he's done. I think he's going
- 12:26Speaker 1: to be really really effective for a young ana Behind team.
- 12:31Speaker 1: I really still think he's gonna do a lot of
- 12:32Speaker 1: good things that for the Anaheim Ducks. So I'm not
- 12:35Speaker 1: saying that he's done, but it's not like it was.
- 12:38Speaker 1: It was a shock. I guess the Rangers want to
- 12:40Speaker 1: get a little younger. He's thirty four years old. They
- 12:45Speaker 1: state Anaheim took all six point six point five million
- 12:49Speaker 1: dollars of his contract for this year upcoming and for
- 12:54Speaker 1: twenty six, twenty seven. Uh. He you know, he was
- 12:59Speaker 1: a great range, there's no doubt about it. But if
- 13:02Speaker 1: he's not a great NHL Hall of Fame level player,
- 13:06Speaker 1: like what happened in nineteen eighty eight when they traded
- 13:09Speaker 1: Greg sty to Los Angeles, which came out of nowhere.
- 13:15Speaker 2: And my dad always, as he remembers where he was,
- 13:17Speaker 2: I guess he was driving around. I think he was
- 13:18Speaker 2: an I when the trade was announced or something like that.
- 13:20Speaker 2: So interesting that he was. He's always simantary he was
- 13:24Speaker 2: driving around. It felt like a ninety three trade, felt
- 13:27Speaker 2: like a moment you knew where you were with Gretzky.
- 13:34Speaker 1: With Gretzky, when when well he got trade to from
- 13:37Speaker 1: Edmonton to Los Angeles in ninety eight an eighty eight
- 13:40Speaker 1: excuse me again? Then I guess in ninety five. I'm trying, Yeah,
- 13:47Speaker 1: ninety five, ninety six, so is it the trade deadline?
- 13:50Speaker 1: In In ninety six he was traded from Los Angeles
- 13:55Speaker 1: to Saint Louis, played a half a year, they lost
- 13:58Speaker 1: to Detroit in the playoffs in the first round, and
- 14:01Speaker 1: then he signed as a free agent in ninety six
- 14:03Speaker 1: with the Rangers for his last three years, where he
- 14:06Speaker 1: was still the best passer that I had in the
- 14:08Speaker 1: league at that time. I mean, the guy was just
- 14:10Speaker 1: an incredible passer. Wasn't the goal scorer that he was
- 14:13Speaker 1: earlier in his career And then you know, played ninety
- 14:15Speaker 1: six ninety seven, ninety seven, ninety eight, and ninety eight
- 14:18Speaker 1: ninety nine for the Rangers and then ended one of
- 14:22Speaker 1: the greatest careers of any North American athlete in history.
- 14:26Speaker 2: And you know, it's funny after he was but I
- 14:28Speaker 2: never thought of him as like a TV personality as
- 14:31Speaker 2: much because I know he's focused on the coaching and
- 14:33Speaker 2: all that. But he's back in the spotlight, which is
- 14:36Speaker 2: kind of interesting to see so and it's fun to
- 14:38Speaker 2: see as well as a hockey as at Ranger.
- 14:41Speaker 1: The Rangers will be okay. I mean everybody gets traded.
- 14:44Speaker 1: Patrick Ewing got traded to Seattle, Tom Stevens got traded.
- 14:47Speaker 2: This question, what's next, right, I think that's the next
- 14:49Speaker 2: step is like, what's next? What are they going to do?
- 14:52Speaker 2: Who they gonna bring in?
- 14:53Speaker 1: Is Mika leaving?
- 14:54Speaker 2: Also, Like I don't know, there's so many questions marks still.
- 14:57Speaker 1: Yeah, well, Mika makes no money, so they gonna have
- 15:00Speaker 1: to find a team that will pick up most of
- 15:04Speaker 1: this of Mika's salary. I have a feeling that Mika
- 15:09Speaker 1: Zabancha is gonna be on the Ranges next year. I do.
- 15:15Speaker 2: You got a cornerstone this this team around well, I
- 15:18Speaker 2: mean Igor is your cornerstone without without a doubt, But
- 15:21Speaker 2: I mean offensively, you got a sort of centerpiece your
- 15:25Speaker 2: offense around Brodzinski. He's the He's the next one. I
- 15:28Speaker 2: think he's a solid player. He played really well for
- 15:30Speaker 2: the Rangers this all this season. You've got to sort
- 15:33Speaker 2: of center it around him and Coolly.
- 15:35Speaker 1: I would think, well, again, Alex, you're forgetting that. The
- 15:39Speaker 1: best player on the team and we you know, we
- 15:41Speaker 1: talked about Pryer and Tabanajet, but the best player on
- 15:44Speaker 1: the team is the is Panarin and Paneren is not.
- 15:50Speaker 1: Paneren is going nowhere. They're not trading Panarin. I would
- 15:55Speaker 1: be interested to see if I don't think they're gonna
- 15:59Speaker 1: trade him. I don't they don't trade him by that
- 16:01Speaker 1: if anybody calls them on. Adam Fox, who I think
- 16:05Speaker 1: did not have who I think did not have a
- 16:07Speaker 1: good year, and I think might be a ted overrated.
- 16:11Speaker 1: I'm not sure what they're gonna do with ca Andre Miller.
- 16:13Speaker 1: I think he might be on a trade block. I
- 16:15Speaker 1: have a feeling he will be gone, and you know,
- 16:20Speaker 1: we'll see. I mean, they have the twelve s pick
- 16:23Speaker 1: in the drift. They only are on nine million dollars
- 16:26Speaker 1: under the cap, unlike the Islanders who are about twenty
- 16:31Speaker 1: nine million dollars under the cap, and locally the Devils
- 16:35Speaker 1: are well under the cap. So so we we've got
- 16:39Speaker 1: to see what happens there. But I don't know. I'm
- 16:43Speaker 1: sure you're gonna see one more range of shakeup to
- 16:45Speaker 1: the roster. What it is else at this time, I
- 16:48Speaker 1: really don't know. I think it would be Davantajead, but
- 16:52Speaker 1: more likely KeAndre Miller. So you know, we'll see. They
- 16:58Speaker 1: got to shake it up a little bit obviously. I
- 17:00Speaker 1: mean last year was beyond disappointing. So if you're a
- 17:06Speaker 1: Ranger fan and uh just be just look out. As
- 17:11Speaker 1: far as quinn Us the Devils, that that seems to
- 17:15Speaker 1: be heating up a little bit. I'm not sure if
- 17:17Speaker 1: Vancouver's gonna trade quinn Us to the Devils with two
- 17:21Speaker 1: years left on his deal, but he has he has
- 17:25Speaker 1: said that he would like to play with his brothers
- 17:27Speaker 1: at the Devil's So we'll see if that happens this
- 17:31Speaker 1: year and if if the Devils can make that happen,
- 17:33Speaker 1: I think that would be a small smart move. Obviously,
- 17:37Speaker 1: you're getting one of the premier, premier defense defensemen in
- 17:41Speaker 1: in the NHL and uh with the Islanders. I mean
- 17:45Speaker 1: when the draft comes up, who they're gonna draft. Matthew Schaeffer,
- 17:48Speaker 1: that's who I think they're gonna draft. The uh uh,
- 17:52Speaker 1: the defenseman from the Eerie Are there's who. Ironically who
- 17:56Speaker 1: the Range and the Rangers got the kid in the
- 18:01Speaker 1: Anaheim deal with for Crider, Carrie Terrence. He's a member
- 18:08Speaker 1: of the Ariatas this year, so he played with Matthew
- 18:11Speaker 1: Schaeffer and a little strange swist here and the kid
- 18:15Speaker 1: that they got for Crider. Terrence played on the US
- 18:21Speaker 1: junior hockey team that won the gold medal this year,
- 18:26Speaker 1: and they won the gold medal last year, so he
- 18:28Speaker 1: was on the back to back champions and he was
- 18:31Speaker 1: also I believe a co captain on the Ariatas. So
- 18:34Speaker 1: he's got some leadership abilities. Six foot and about one
- 18:37Speaker 1: hundred and eighty five pounds. See if he makes the team.
- 18:39Speaker 1: He was drifted in the second round, So we'll see.
- 18:43Speaker 1: We'll see what happens if he becomes a player for
- 18:45Speaker 1: the Rangers. People will forget Chris Pryder right away.
- 18:48Speaker 2: Well, we'll have to see how it all shakes out.
- 18:50Speaker 2: I just know that it was sort of devastating news,
- 18:53Speaker 2: and it was. It was a sad day. But let's go.
- 18:56Speaker 2: Let's go now to the other series that's going on
- 18:59Speaker 2: the other the other finals, because I think the Pacers
- 19:04Speaker 2: we okay, they were in a fluke during the with
- 19:08Speaker 2: the Cat against the Cavs. They were in a fluke
- 19:10Speaker 2: against the Knicks. But it's almost like they're doing the
- 19:13Speaker 2: exact same thing another series later. I mean, okay, so
- 19:16Speaker 2: he should be up in the series. What is the
- 19:18Speaker 2: What are the Pacers doing right?
- 19:21Speaker 1: The Pacers team? Uh, they are getting contributions from a
- 19:28Speaker 1: lot of different guys, whether it's Pascal Siakam or whether
- 19:32Speaker 1: it's Tyrese Haliburton, whether it's Andrew Netsmith, TJ. McConnell. The
- 19:39Speaker 1: other night, you know, had a ten to five game
- 19:44Speaker 1: in fifteen minutes. Ten points five is fix and a
- 19:47Speaker 1: couple of seals in fifteen minutes. He's he's one of
- 19:52Speaker 1: those guys who ELPs contribute to winning team. Benedict Matt Shoran,
- 19:56Speaker 1: who missed the whole Knick series last year. Everybody talks
- 19:59Speaker 1: about the Knicks be injured in that series, but Matt
- 20:01Speaker 1: sure in this the whole series last year and Halliburton
- 20:03Speaker 1: was banged up. Uh. And the other thing, And this
- 20:05Speaker 1: is this guy to hurt Nick fans Obi Toppin. If
- 20:08Speaker 1: you watch the game the other night, down the stretch
- 20:11Speaker 1: again helped Indiana win with a great block. He runs
- 20:15Speaker 1: the floor. I think that you know, OKC, they have
- 20:20Speaker 1: the bet. They had the best record in the NBA.
- 20:23Speaker 1: They had the best defensive team in the NBA. Somebody
- 20:25Speaker 1: said that, and I forgot who I was listening to,
- 20:28Speaker 1: said that they're one of the better teams since he's
- 20:30Speaker 1: been watching basketball in the last twenty five years. Well again,
- 20:34Speaker 1: that's all said and good, but they're down two games
- 20:36Speaker 1: to one. They have the best bench in the NBA,
- 20:39Speaker 1: the deepest bench, but which was outscored by thirty one
- 20:42Speaker 1: points the other night by the Pacer bench. But Alex,
- 20:46Speaker 1: do they have the maturity level? This was Uh, this
- 20:50Speaker 1: is the first time they got there. They're the youngest
- 20:52Speaker 1: team in the NBA that was sixty four and eighteen,
- 20:54Speaker 1: and they were the youngest team in the NBA that
- 20:57Speaker 1: usually doesn't correlate sixty four and eighteen, which is a
- 21:00Speaker 1: phenomenal record, one of the best in the league ever
- 21:04Speaker 1: correlating with being such a young team. So tonight the
- 21:10Speaker 1: pressures on them, and tonight around eight thirty one, tip
- 21:13Speaker 1: off happens in Indiana. Uh, we'll see what happens. I mean,
- 21:20Speaker 1: you can't. You can't blame SGA because he's had Uh
- 21:24Speaker 1: this first two games were excellent. OKA. See, he is
- 21:28Speaker 1: the lifeblood of OKC, no doubt about it, no doubt
- 21:31Speaker 1: about it. Ched Holmgren and Jalen Williams have to play better.
- 21:36Speaker 1: They have to if they have any any plans of
- 21:41Speaker 1: tying his serious up. Tonight. I still think that, Uh,
- 21:45Speaker 1: if they win tonight in Indianapolis, I think they'll be
- 21:48Speaker 1: I think they'll be okay. But you got to really
- 21:51Speaker 1: give the Paces a lot of credit since since Christmas
- 21:54Speaker 1: time they've been one of the best teams in the
- 21:57Speaker 1: league in the regular season. They took that right into
- 21:59Speaker 1: the playoffs.
- 22:03Speaker 2: So you gotta get now now while we're on basketball.
- 22:09Speaker 2: I mean, yep, this coaching search is insane. I might
- 22:12Speaker 2: as go to the Guard now and apply myself because
- 22:15Speaker 2: I feel like it's a better shot of having a
- 22:18Speaker 2: local than try and go and request for an interview
- 22:21Speaker 2: right now.
- 22:23Speaker 1: Alex, Yeah, you're correct, and that I'm surprised that that
- 22:31Speaker 1: the Knicks seems like they didn't have a succession plan
- 22:35Speaker 1: in place, because it seems like that they knew that
- 22:39Speaker 1: they were going to let Thibodeau go probably before the
- 22:45Speaker 1: playoffs were over, and we talked about that. I don't
- 22:48Speaker 1: think that seventy less than seventy two hours after they
- 22:49Speaker 1: lost to Indiana that they made that decision to UH
- 22:53Speaker 1: to get rid of Tom Thibodeau. But if they did,
- 22:57Speaker 1: that was really short sighted because they They've asked for
- 23:01Speaker 1: permission to speak to Jason Kidd. Dallas turned him down,
- 23:04Speaker 1: uh in Udoka with the with the Houston, Houston turned
- 23:08Speaker 1: him down, Minnesota Chris Finch, Minnesota turned him down, Atlanta
- 23:12Speaker 1: Quinn Snyder, Quinn Snyder turned him down, Chicago Billy Donovan.
- 23:16Speaker 1: Billy Donovan turned him down. Obviously, jay Wright said they
- 23:21Speaker 1: had no interest. Hurley had no interest. So again I
- 23:27Speaker 1: don't know if it was a spur of the moment thing.
- 23:29Speaker 1: Now it's starting to look like it might be after
- 23:32Speaker 1: they lost Indiana. But it's it's not a good it's
- 23:36Speaker 1: not a good look, let's put it that way. And
- 23:39Speaker 1: I have no idea who's going to be the coach.
- 23:41Speaker 1: You hear Mike Brown, you hear Taylor Jenkins. I mean,
- 23:45Speaker 1: obviously they're they're veterans, their veteran NBA coaches, But obviously
- 23:50Speaker 1: there would be their six or seventh choice, but that
- 23:53Speaker 1: doesn't matter. I mean, as long as the guy could
- 23:55Speaker 1: could get the most out of of the NICK team,
- 23:58Speaker 1: so so that it's going to be something. I think
- 24:01Speaker 1: that'll probably be done in the next week before the
- 24:05Speaker 1: draft starts. I think they'll have the coach in place,
- 24:09Speaker 1: and I think that Kevin Durant will be traded by
- 24:13Speaker 1: the by the draft day, which is June twenty fifth,
- 24:15Speaker 1: And that doesn't seem like it's going to be the
- 24:17Speaker 1: next It seems like it's going to be used in
- 24:19Speaker 1: Miami Heat or the Minnesota Timberwolves. So well, a lot
- 24:24Speaker 1: of interesting NBA and NHL offseason action, more so than
- 24:30Speaker 1: I think we're used to sing.
- 24:35Speaker 2: Oh yeah, it's gonna be crazy. And you know, I
- 24:38Speaker 2: was actually reading Mike Viccaro's piece over the last week
- 24:42Speaker 2: about this whole Kid brunts and connection, and I kind
- 24:45Speaker 2: of forgot about how you know, he really mentored him
- 24:48Speaker 2: as the MAVs head coach. So of course to have
- 24:50Speaker 2: that chemistry back in New York will be fun. But
- 24:53Speaker 2: I didn't know. You mentioned the metal lines a little
- 24:55Speaker 2: while ago that kid actually made his bones in the
- 24:58Speaker 2: college circuit at the middle edge of the Big Game
- 25:01Speaker 2: and then went back to be in that How.
- 25:03Speaker 1: Cool is that? Well that game. I was at that
- 25:06Speaker 1: game and actually actually he he was injured, but he
- 25:11Speaker 1: came in with California. They played Cornell and Cornell beat him,
- 25:16Speaker 1: and then I guess allegedly, I don't know all the
- 25:19Speaker 1: details on this, but Lou Campanelli, who was the coach
- 25:21Speaker 1: of California at the time, there's rumors that Kid got
- 25:24Speaker 1: him fired as and then Todd Boseman came in, and
- 25:28Speaker 1: Todd Boseman had his problems with some recruiting issues after
- 25:32Speaker 1: Kid left, and so yeah, that story, that story is
- 25:40Speaker 1: is semi accurate.
- 25:43Speaker 2: And we got to kind of work with him. Now,
- 25:45Speaker 2: did you ever work along side him as you have
- 25:47Speaker 2: to talk to I'm sure you did get to talk
- 25:48Speaker 2: to him, and he wasn't.
- 25:49Speaker 1: Absolutely he was. No, I'm questioning. He knew, he knew
- 25:54Speaker 1: the staff, he interacted with the staff, and obviously we
- 25:59Speaker 1: all loved him us. He made our job much easier
- 26:03Speaker 1: because he's the best exhilarating.
- 26:06Speaker 2: Every three he made was just it was so seamless
- 26:09Speaker 2: and just exciting to watch.
- 26:11Speaker 1: And then he made and he made everybody better. That's
- 26:13Speaker 1: the that's the greatest thing a point got to do.
- 26:16Speaker 1: He made everybody around him better. So uh yeah, he was.
- 26:20Speaker 1: He was the best NBA net in history. Julie Serving
- 26:25Speaker 1: was the best a BA net and there the two
- 26:26Speaker 1: best netsu to ever play.
- 26:30Speaker 2: I believe in the rafters of Barkleys. Now they have
- 26:33Speaker 2: doctor Jas banners still there. I remember that one they
- 26:36Speaker 2: do at Meadowlands as well. Well, it's going to be
- 26:39Speaker 2: an interesting search. It's going to consume a lot of
- 26:42Speaker 2: the summer because it just looks chaotic and and uh,
- 26:48Speaker 2: I don't want to say the word embarrassing, but it
- 26:50Speaker 2: doesn't look good for the next when nobody wants to
- 26:52Speaker 2: interview with them.
- 26:53Speaker 1: Right now, well again, teams are stopping them from interviewing
- 26:58Speaker 1: these guys, I think I think Kid probably has an
- 27:00Speaker 1: interest in the Knicks. And maybe out of all the
- 27:03Speaker 1: guys I mentioned, even though Dallas said that they're not
- 27:06Speaker 1: giving the Knicks permission, I would still look at that
- 27:10Speaker 1: as a possibility of happening in the next week or
- 27:13Speaker 1: so because maybe Dallas was holding out for better compensation.
- 27:18Speaker 1: Who knows, but uh, yeah, it looks chaotic for the Knicks.
- 27:24Speaker 1: It's not a good look for the Knicks. Firing Thibodeau
- 27:27Speaker 1: really wasn't a good look for the Knicks. But they
- 27:30Speaker 1: have to improve the roster. They gotta get more athletic.
- 27:34Speaker 1: You know, they're not a fast team.
- 27:36Speaker 2: And of course he broke his silence, calling him this
- 27:38Speaker 2: is a dream job he had. And sure when David
- 27:41Speaker 2: Adams this new card store just opened up Harold Square Campus.
- 27:45Speaker 2: They have Derek Rose coming in as a special guest
- 27:48Speaker 2: next Tuesday. Maybe I gotta go up there and ask him,
- 27:51Speaker 2: you know, his relationship with Dives and where the Knicks
- 27:53Speaker 2: are go, because I mean, that's a guy who was
- 27:56Speaker 2: basically a son to Thibodeau for a long while.
- 28:00Speaker 1: Well, he won MVP for the Bulls, so he was
- 28:03Speaker 1: doing something right, Derek Rose, That's for.
- 28:06Speaker 2: Sure, absolutely, And I think they had a strong connection,
- 28:10Speaker 2: so I'm sure he's feeling a bit. It's a bit
- 28:13Speaker 2: rough for everybody that knows Thiss because the guy seems
- 28:15Speaker 2: to be a really decent guy. So we'll have to see,
- 28:19Speaker 2: all right, lou one other story, We're gonna talk about baseball.
- 28:22Speaker 2: Then we have so much time about baseball. But I
- 28:26Speaker 2: learned something new this week after the daughters of Jim
- 28:29Speaker 2: Irsay are taking over the team. But I did not
- 28:33Speaker 2: know Ers's father is.
- 28:37Speaker 1: Is?
- 28:37Speaker 2: I know Modell moving Baltimore, but then he also moved
- 28:41Speaker 2: to Baltimore. Coats tell us how there was another Baltimore Colts.
- 28:45Speaker 2: I mean, what happened? They went to Indianapolis.
- 28:47Speaker 1: Then Baltimore Colts were in Baltimore. Obviously, Baltimore Cults were
- 28:54Speaker 1: in Baltimore from nineteen fifty three to nineteen eighty four.
- 28:57Speaker 1: There was a team previously called the Baltimore Cult who
- 29:00Speaker 1: played in the All American Football Conference in nineteen forty six,
- 29:04Speaker 1: and they disbanded when the league close shop. In The
- 29:11Speaker 1: Cleveland Browns and the San Franco forty nine Ers came
- 29:13Speaker 1: to the NFL in nineteen fifty Cleveland Brown's legendary team
- 29:17Speaker 1: in the American Conference, the All American Football Conference and
- 29:23Speaker 1: the NFL. They went to the championship game ten years
- 29:27Speaker 1: in a row combining both leagues, and they won seven
- 29:30Speaker 1: of the championships. But the Baltimore Colts came into the
- 29:33Speaker 1: league in nineteen fifty three and they stayed in Baltimore
- 29:36Speaker 1: to nineteen eighty four. Obviously, they won the NFL championship
- 29:40Speaker 1: in fifty eight and fifty nine, both times they beat
- 29:43Speaker 1: the Giants. They lost the championship in sixty four to
- 29:48Speaker 1: the Browns. They were heavily favored and they lost to
- 29:50Speaker 1: the Browns and Jimmy Brown twenty seven to nothing in
- 29:53Speaker 1: sixty four and then lost to a Super Bowl three
- 29:58Speaker 1: to the Jets, and in sixty eight won Super Bowl
- 30:01Speaker 1: five and seventy. Then they needed a new stadium and
- 30:08Speaker 1: Robert Erci, father of jim grandfather of the daughters, started
- 30:14Speaker 1: talking to Jacksonville, and started talking to a lot of
- 30:17Speaker 1: I think he might talk to Memphis, talked to a
- 30:20Speaker 1: lot of a lot of cities saying that I kept
- 30:23Speaker 1: saying he's not going anywhere. He's not going anywhere. Well,
- 30:26Speaker 1: Alex like it was either late January early February of
- 30:31Speaker 1: eighty four. They took the Mayflower moving vans into the
- 30:38Speaker 1: practice facility and their offices filled them up, and they
- 30:45Speaker 1: went overnight to Indianapolis and became the Indianapolis Colts, much
- 30:49Speaker 1: to the chagrin of the NFL and the city of Baltimore.
- 30:55Speaker 1: The Baltimore Colts fan base during that time was as
- 31:01Speaker 1: rabbit and as loyal a fan base as there was
- 31:04Speaker 1: in the NFL. There's documentaries on them about their famous band,
- 31:09Speaker 1: who now is the Ravens Band. But the band kept
- 31:12Speaker 1: going even when there was no team in Baltimore, and
- 31:17Speaker 1: ESPN did a great documentary on it. So they moved
- 31:20Speaker 1: to Indianapolis in nineteen eighty four, and believe it or not,
- 31:23Speaker 1: they've played more years in Indianapolis than they did in Baltimore.
- 31:27Speaker 1: And Robert Ursay obviously willed the team to his son,
- 31:30Speaker 1: Jim Irsay, who now has willed his team to his kids.
- 31:35Speaker 1: And you know, Jim Mersay had addiction issues which causes
- 31:40Speaker 1: downfall and causes untimely death at the age of sixty five.
- 31:45Speaker 1: But that's the story in a nutshell of the Baltimore Cults.
- 31:49Speaker 1: But we could do a whole show on franchise removals
- 31:53Speaker 1: in the NFL or in a lot of cities, which
- 31:55Speaker 1: might be interesting to some of the people who listened
- 31:59Speaker 1: to our podcast regular basis. Actually some of our listening.
- 32:02Speaker 2: One of the one of his daughters, is on the
- 32:05Speaker 2: sideline with the team during the last few years.
- 32:07Speaker 1: So yes, and with a headset, and that could be
- 32:10Speaker 1: a problem. I don't know how much he knows about football,
- 32:13Speaker 1: but so you know that that story is true. I
- 32:17Speaker 1: know somebody in Indianapolis, very close to the Indianapolis Colts situation,
- 32:22Speaker 1: and they confirmed, they confirmed that, you know that the
- 32:25Speaker 1: daughters might get a little too involved, but really don't
- 32:29Speaker 1: have football knowledge to run the operation. Obviously, they have
- 32:32Speaker 1: the financial backing because of the how much money the
- 32:37Speaker 1: franchise is worth. I mean, it's probably ten times the
- 32:43Speaker 1: value it was when maybe fifteen times the value it
- 32:47Speaker 1: was when Roberts brought the team from Carol Rosen the
- 32:50Speaker 1: Woman nineteenth in nineteen seventy two.
- 32:55Speaker 2: And by the way, the number of titles he won,
- 32:57Speaker 2: I mean, he won the championship, the Super Bowl, you know,
- 33:00Speaker 2: in O seven and who could ever forget that game?
- 33:04Speaker 2: Because I was the Bears year. I think the Bears
- 33:06Speaker 2: had a really good chance, but obviously Manning and the Colts,
- 33:10Speaker 2: and I think josepha Ye was a part of that
- 33:12Speaker 2: team too. In O seven, it was a pretty good
- 33:15Speaker 2: run for Indianapolis. But I didn't realize he won about
- 33:19Speaker 2: Ted orzoh AFC titles. Pretty impressive.
- 33:22Speaker 1: Well, they won a lot of they won a lot
- 33:24Speaker 1: of divisions, They won a lot, I mean, Alex, thanks
- 33:29Speaker 1: to Manning, they're winning eleven eleven plus games every year.
- 33:33Speaker 1: I mean, I think they have the record for most
- 33:36Speaker 1: consecutive double digit seasons in an NFL history. And don't
- 33:41Speaker 1: make no mistake, Peyton Manning made the Colts better. Like
- 33:44Speaker 1: people want to compare him with Brady and say, well
- 33:46Speaker 1: he's won he won more championships. Peyton Manning never had
- 33:49Speaker 1: a coach like Belichick. He never had he never had
- 33:52Speaker 1: the players around him like Brady had. And you know,
- 33:55Speaker 1: I think Brady's the greatest not only quarterback, the greatest
- 33:58Speaker 1: player in the history of the NFL, Todless of the era,
- 34:01Speaker 1: but Peyton Manning and everybody better that. There's no doubt
- 34:06Speaker 1: about it. He had no running game, and there was
- 34:09Speaker 1: he had many coaches I'm a big and.
- 34:12Speaker 2: How many years, how many times was the soundtrack in
- 34:15Speaker 2: the postseason in the regular season Manning the Harrison, right,
- 34:19Speaker 2: I always remember that being the duo right there.
- 34:21Speaker 1: Well, I think for years, and I think it's been
- 34:23Speaker 1: I think it's been passed. I think another quarterback wide
- 34:27Speaker 1: receiver duo has passed them. But for years Manning and
- 34:31Speaker 1: Harrison were they had the record for most quarterback to
- 34:35Speaker 1: wide receiver touchdown passes.
- 34:37Speaker 2: So well, Lou, it's always great in the crazy world
- 34:41Speaker 2: when I get an alert that the US Israel I
- 34:44Speaker 2: mean sorry, the Israel Iran conflict is now protest in
- 34:47Speaker 2: New York. It's nice that sports can distract us from
- 34:49Speaker 2: all the insanity in the world right now.
- 34:52Speaker 1: Absolutely, Alex, Hey, Alex, before I go, I just you
- 34:54Speaker 1: know what. I think it's the time we gave a
- 34:56Speaker 1: little shout out to some of our our loyal listeners. Yes, please,
- 35:00Speaker 1: do you know and uh, you know we got obviously.

- 35:33Speaker 1: just want to thank everybody for.
- 35:36Speaker 2: We are so appreciative of our listenership and your friends
- 35:39Speaker 2: that tune in support. And of course One Leg Up
- 35:42Speaker 2: with Alex is found on Spotify, our Heart Radio, Apple Podcasts, Spreaker,
- 35:48Speaker 2: it's on. I mean, you go, you go viral low
- 35:51Speaker 2: in one sense or the other when we go on
- 35:54Speaker 2: these podcasts. So thank you for always joining. And maybe
- 35:57Speaker 2: we'll talk about that One Leg Up portal. And I've
- 35:59Speaker 2: been teasing a little bit because I want to get
- 36:01Speaker 2: that off the ground where people can actually, you know,
- 36:03Speaker 2: utilize all our great affiliate sponsors as well.
- 36:07Speaker 1: That would be great. Yeah, but uh, you know, I
- 36:10Speaker 1: think we have a good thing here, and you know,
- 36:12Speaker 1: I enjoy joining you once a week. It's a fun
- 36:15Speaker 1: thing for me.
- 36:16Speaker 2: I was so excited about the dry sidle goal and
- 36:19Speaker 2: and although Yang's played bosson this weekend, I didn't feel
- 36:22Speaker 2: like talking baseball today because that's not really on my mind.
- 36:24Speaker 2: When it comes to sports. We got a long way
- 36:26Speaker 2: for that. These two series seem to be going down
- 36:29Speaker 2: to the NUB, as Gary Cohen says, especially if okayse
- 36:34Speaker 2: can tie it up tonight.
- 36:35Speaker 1: Yes, I mean you're right, if they're going to they're
- 36:38Speaker 1: going to the NUB. I mean, uh, it's it's the
- 36:42Speaker 1: NHL and the NBA. You know, they may not get
- 36:46Speaker 1: the markets that they want, the big markets, but I
- 36:48Speaker 1: don't think the league cares as much as the media cares.
- 36:51Speaker 1: These are two great series. I mean, it's better than
- 36:54Speaker 1: having uh lot the Lakers in their heyday playing somebody
