- 0:04Speaker 1: All right, all right, yo, yo yo, come and throw
- 0:07Speaker 1: you alive from Philly. It's the Poly and Tony Fosco Show. Yo.
- 0:12Speaker 1: As always, Polly Foolsco here with Tony Fousco and Tony.
- 0:16Speaker 1: We got a huge show for the people this week,
- 0:19Speaker 1: as always. But before we can talk about this week's show,
- 0:23Speaker 1: we got to talk about last week's show, which continues
- 0:27Speaker 1: to make news. People have been coming up to us
- 0:29Speaker 1: congratulating Tony for defeating the so called kicking up sports
- 0:34Speaker 1: trivia how schwab and you know what they say. They say,
- 0:37Speaker 1: we couldn't believe he was so cocky, as they say,
- 0:41Speaker 1: don't count your chickens before you buy more chickens. There
- 0:45Speaker 1: you go, And well today we have a much better guest.
- 0:49Speaker 1: In fact, we don't say this often, Tony. We're honored
- 0:53Speaker 1: to have our guest today a member of one of
- 0:55Speaker 1: football's royal families. When you hear the name, you know
- 0:59Speaker 1: it's greatness Michael Lombardi. Of course you already know, relative
- 1:06Speaker 1: of the legendary Packers coach Vince Lombardi, carrying on the
- 1:11Speaker 1: football tradition of his family, was an assistant to Bill Belichick.
- 1:15Speaker 1: Bill Walsh helped them win Super Bowls, and we're gonna
- 1:18Speaker 1: get into all of that with him and also find
- 1:20Speaker 1: out who he thinks is gonna be holding the Lombardi Trophy. Yeah,
- 1:26Speaker 1: best guy to ask. He's from the Lombardi family, the
- 1:30Speaker 1: first family of Footbare Ago. And by the way, you know,
- 1:33Speaker 1: we look at the competition, scouted out see who were
- 1:35Speaker 1: competing against in the you know, sports industry, Tony. I
- 1:38Speaker 1: was watching ESPN the other day that show Get Up,
- 1:42Speaker 1: you know, which is surprisingly not an infomercial for penis pills. Anyway,
- 1:46Speaker 1: Mike Greenberg, he mentions before the show. He says, they
- 1:50Speaker 1: had what's called the production meeting. What's gonna be a
- 1:53Speaker 1: little inside baseball for you listening. But apparently what these
- 1:56Speaker 1: people do is before they go on their they sit
- 1:59Speaker 1: in a room for like two to three hours trying
- 2:02Speaker 1: to figure out what the hell they're gonna talk about.
- 2:04Speaker 1: What a what a fucking waste of time? Hut, Tony. Yeah,
- 2:07Speaker 1: if you need that long to figure out what to
- 2:10Speaker 1: talk about, you're in the wrong business. Pauli and I
- 2:15Speaker 1: we don't even talk before the show, but we come
- 2:17Speaker 1: in and give it to you straight. That's how you
- 2:21Speaker 1: know you're getting real unfiltered talk. And that doesn't mean,
- 2:26Speaker 1: you know, we don't work hard. You know, we do
- 2:28Speaker 1: our dude diligence every show. Yep, we're a couple of
- 2:33Speaker 1: dudes who do our diligence. Anyway, we're gonna get into
- 2:38Speaker 1: it with Michael Lombardi in just a few minutes. But first,
- 2:41Speaker 1: one of our most inventive segments. You know, it would
- 2:44Speaker 1: have taken Mike Greenberg and hisn'tentre staff there, it were
- 2:47Speaker 1: taking them, you a thirty production meeting five to come
- 2:49Speaker 1: up with a segment this good. But this is where
- 2:52Speaker 1: we boil all the big headlines down into a simple
- 2:56Speaker 1: way for you. The people listed in, and we tell
- 2:58Speaker 1: you whether they're good or not good, good or not good? Alright,
- 3:04Speaker 1: first went out the gate hit Tom Brady led the
- 3:07Speaker 1: Bucks to a win over the Saints to get to
- 3:10Speaker 1: the NFC Championship. Tony, is this good or not good?
- 3:14Speaker 1: This is not good? You know everyone's talking about Tom
- 3:20Speaker 1: Brady or it's unbelievable. But who in fact was the
- 3:23Speaker 1: best kill be in that game? PAULI. We obviously Jamis
- 3:27Speaker 1: Winston exactly. We always say, look at the stats. He
- 3:32Speaker 1: had a record breaking game completion percentage of one percent
- 3:38Speaker 1: of perfect passer rating. That was the best statistical performance
- 3:43Speaker 1: ever in the postseason. And you want us to say
- 3:46Speaker 1: the Bucks are smart for getting rid of Jamis Winston.
- 3:48Speaker 1: You kidding me? I sure as hell won't. You know,
- 3:50Speaker 1: this just proves sometimes you have to let things marinade,
- 3:54Speaker 1: you know, give it time before you completely give up
- 3:57Speaker 1: on it. Like we all remember, you know, one of
- 3:59Speaker 1: the all time great sitcoms, Joey starring Matt LeBlanc. You know,
- 4:04Speaker 1: he was the best character odd Friends in all timer.
- 4:08Speaker 1: They go and make forty six wonderful, hilarious and also
- 4:11Speaker 1: poignant episodes of that show, and then NBC cancels it unforgivable, terrible.
- 4:17Speaker 1: We didn't know what to do Tuesday nights atay thirty
- 4:19Speaker 1: pm anymore. You remember, Luckily they hadn't canceled, according to
- 4:24Speaker 1: Jim yet, So we watched that great show, all right.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Moving on, the Chiefs beat the Browns to advance to
- 4:31Speaker 1: the a f C Championship behind Chad Henny after Patrick
- 4:36Speaker 1: Mahomes got knocked out of the game. Paulie, is this
- 4:40Speaker 1: good or not good? This is clearly good? You know.
- 4:44Speaker 1: Now people are seeing the real reason for Patrick mahomes Is,
- 4:47Speaker 1: you know, success there. It was Chad Henny all along.
- 4:51Speaker 1: You know, he had that NFL veteran experience helping him
- 4:55Speaker 1: on the sidelines. You know, we just saw this with
- 4:57Speaker 1: the Bears. You saw Nick Foles helping Mitch true Shitsky
- 5:02Speaker 1: looked like Joe Montana out there. This is why they
- 5:05Speaker 1: say behind every great man is another great man. We
- 5:11Speaker 1: saw this tool and entertainment. You know, look at the
- 5:14Speaker 1: band from the eighties, Wham. George Michael relied on Andrew
- 5:18Speaker 1: Widgeley and they were very successful together. But after they
- 5:23Speaker 1: broke up, George Michael became fat, he got arrested and
- 5:27Speaker 1: you know, he got in a lot of trouble. But
- 5:29Speaker 1: Andrew Ridgeley look at him, no legal issues whatsoever, and
- 5:35Speaker 1: he's still alive. Great point, Tony. Alright, moving on, let's
- 5:40Speaker 1: stay in the a f C. Here, Josh Allen led
- 5:43Speaker 1: the Bills over the Ravens, earning Buffalo a spot in
- 5:47Speaker 1: the a f C Championship, Tony, is this good or
- 5:51Speaker 1: not good? This is good. Even though we're not Buffalo fans,
- 5:57Speaker 1: we can still root for them to do well because
- 6:00Speaker 1: we feel bad for them. After all, when you look
- 6:03Speaker 1: at it, they're winning. His player is still O J. Simpson.
- 6:07Speaker 1: I mean, he won a Heisman, a rushing title, and
- 6:12Speaker 1: a murder trial, and nobody's topped that since then, basically
- 6:17Speaker 1: the triple crown of professional sports. Yeah, you know what
- 6:22Speaker 1: you have to wonder, Tony, if winning a super Bowl
- 6:24Speaker 1: does actually top winning a murder trial. I mean O
- 6:28Speaker 1: J was the underdog in that trial, and yet he
- 6:31Speaker 1: pulled out the victory. So maybe you know, if the
- 6:34Speaker 1: Bills beat Tom Brady in the Bucks for the super Bowl,
- 6:37Speaker 1: while all right, that would be kind of like getting
- 6:39Speaker 1: acquitted for murder when it was clear that you did
- 6:42Speaker 1: it absolutely all right. Last one, we're talking basketball. People
- 6:48Speaker 1: are piste at Kyrie Irving because he basically disappeared on
- 6:52Speaker 1: the nets and nobody knew when he might return. Paulie,
- 6:57Speaker 1: is this good or not good? This is clearly not good.
- 7:02Speaker 1: You know, people leave Kyrie alone. Hea, he's doing the
- 7:05Speaker 1: smart thing. I mean, you know, people always say being
- 7:08Speaker 1: dependable is a good thing, but if you look at history, right,
- 7:12Speaker 1: don't he look at history, it shows dependability is not
- 7:16Speaker 1: good at all. Exactly. You know, everybody kept saying Brett
- 7:20Speaker 1: Fobb was so great because he started three hundred straight games.
- 7:26Speaker 1: But that's why he only won one Super Bowl, because
- 7:30Speaker 1: all the other teams knew he was gonna play and
- 7:32Speaker 1: they could game plan for him. They were like, Yo, Brett,
- 7:36Speaker 1: Fob's gonna be playing. We know what to expect. We
- 7:39Speaker 1: got this in the bag. Yeah, you know, same with
- 7:43Speaker 1: Cal Ripken. Remember him played in three thousand straight games,
- 7:47Speaker 1: and if you look at it, you know he won
- 7:49Speaker 1: the World Series as rookie year and then never won
- 7:52Speaker 1: anything ever again. And you know why, It's clear because
- 7:56Speaker 1: he kept showing up exactly. You know, every team they knew,
- 7:59Speaker 1: they said, hey, Cal's gonna be here, we know exactly
- 8:02Speaker 1: what fitches to throw easy out. Yeah, they shouldn't call
- 8:06Speaker 1: him iron man, they should call him predictable man, exactly.
- 8:11Speaker 1: And you know it's also predictable on that subject, Tony,
- 8:13Speaker 1: is the quality of that segment because it was as
- 8:16Speaker 1: good as always, right, and guess how many production meetings
- 8:20Speaker 1: it took us zero zero zero? Good point that, Tony. Anyway,
- 8:26Speaker 1: it's time to move on because I see our guess
- 8:28Speaker 1: coming on the line now, So let's get him on
- 8:30Speaker 1: the Fusco Satellite Network satellite alright. He was an assistant
- 8:37Speaker 1: to Bill Belichick and Bill Walsh helped them win Super Bowls,
- 8:40Speaker 1: the GM for the Browns too. Now he's doing a lot.
- 8:43Speaker 1: He's the host of the GM Shuffle podcast with d
- 8:46Speaker 1: nan Verke. He's on the Lombardi line on Viscon. He
- 8:49Speaker 1: writes for The Athletic and The Daily Coach. Wow. But
- 8:53Speaker 1: you know, let's not beat around the bush yet. He's
- 8:56Speaker 1: also a descendant of the great Vince Lomba and that
- 9:00Speaker 1: is why it is such a true honor to have
- 9:03Speaker 1: you on our show. Welcome to the show, Michael Lamba. Wow,
- 9:07Speaker 1: it is an honest sir, Thank you very much. It's
- 9:10Speaker 1: a great introduction. Thank you. I appreciate that wonderful introduction. Beautiful, incorrect,
- 9:15Speaker 1: but wonderful. Wait, what's what what's incorrecting? Well, I'm not
- 9:20Speaker 1: really related to Vince. I have the same last night. Actually,
- 9:24Speaker 1: are you punking us here? Is this some kind of joke? No?
- 9:29Speaker 1: Are you really not related to Vince Lombardi? Are you
- 9:32Speaker 1: kidding me? No? I'm serious. What I mean. That's like
- 9:37Speaker 1: if I went to go work for a computer company
- 9:39Speaker 1: and I said, hey, my name's PAULI Gates. You could
- 9:42Speaker 1: have been Bill Gates. You should have won the Bill Gates, Well,
- 9:44Speaker 1: do you ever think you got all those you know,
- 9:46Speaker 1: fancy NFL jobs because you're duped? Everybody know, the Patriots
- 9:50Speaker 1: must have thought that they were getting the son of
- 9:52Speaker 1: Vince Lombardy. Well, actually, yeah, I think I would be
- 9:57Speaker 1: the grandson of vinch. I'm not that old. I mean,
- 10:00Speaker 1: you know you guys, you guys, do you take math
- 10:02Speaker 1: classes there at all? Oh? Yeah, yeah, yeah, and I
- 10:06Speaker 1: know what the math says right now? Is your zero
- 10:09Speaker 1: percent truthful? I mean, can I make a suggestion? Don't
- 10:13Speaker 1: you think you should change your name to you know,
- 10:15Speaker 1: something a little less high and mighty there, you know,
- 10:18Speaker 1: you can still come from a football family. Maybe Michael
- 10:21Speaker 1: co Tight? Yeah, what about Michael co Tight? That would
- 10:24Speaker 1: be perfect. Maybe I gotta I got to Michael Mahomes.
- 10:28Speaker 1: How about Michael Mahomes. Alright, it's clear this isn't getting
- 10:31Speaker 1: through to you here. Yeah, look, we're gonna we're gonna
- 10:34Speaker 1: try to move on, you know, even though yeah, it's
- 10:38Speaker 1: a little less prestigious than we thought it was gonna
- 10:40Speaker 1: be here. But all right, hold on, let's just talk
- 10:42Speaker 1: about you for a second now. On your resume, which
- 10:46Speaker 1: you know we can't trust anymore. Uh, it says you're
- 10:49Speaker 1: the assistant to Bill Belichick. Is that true? That's true.
- 10:54Speaker 1: I was on the coaching staff of the Patriots and
- 10:57Speaker 1: loved it. What do you do as an assistant? You know,
- 11:00Speaker 1: you get his coffee, dry cleaning, starch. What are you doing? No,
- 11:03Speaker 1: I mean there was a lot of things you did. Uh.
- 11:05Speaker 1: I did some personnel work, I did some coaching work.
- 11:08Speaker 1: I did research work, did a little bit of everything,
- 11:11Speaker 1: which was fun, all right, But what you know is
- 11:13Speaker 1: that type of research. I mean, come on, we're talking
- 11:15Speaker 1: about the Patriots here. You know what I'm talking about.
- 11:17Speaker 1: Come on, quote unquote research. Well, I think you know
- 11:20Speaker 1: your research the opponent you're gonna play the games like
- 11:24Speaker 1: this weekend. What separates the divisional round winners from losers?
- 11:28Speaker 1: And usually it comes down to you know, red zone,
- 11:31Speaker 1: third downs, short yardage, and goal line, certain situations within
- 11:35Speaker 1: the game, so different projects that you would go through
- 11:38Speaker 1: when they call time out, all the all those kinds
- 11:40Speaker 1: of things that go into the game. But Bill Belichick, like,
- 11:43Speaker 1: you know, what are you telling me about football? For?
- 11:45Speaker 1: You're not related to Viceland body. I mean, you know,
- 11:48Speaker 1: I'm Bill Belichick, greatest coach ever, fulf I mean, isn't
- 11:51Speaker 1: that what he thinks? Come on, he probably does, so,
- 11:53Speaker 1: you know, maybe he needs something to read when he
- 11:55Speaker 1: takes the dump in the afternoon. I don't know. I mean,
- 11:58Speaker 1: you know, so I I don't know. I was at
- 12:00Speaker 1: a great opportunity to work with them. I enjoyed it tremendously.
- 12:04Speaker 1: Ye yeah, yeah, that's great and all. But here's what
- 12:06Speaker 1: I also want to know. What was Tom Brady like
- 12:10Speaker 1: and what p s I pressure and the football did
- 12:13Speaker 1: he like? Like was it like two instead of like, hey,
- 12:15Speaker 1: this is thirty two p s? I wanted to what
- 12:19Speaker 1: was Brady like? Yeah? I think Brady is one of
- 12:21Speaker 1: the greatest human beings I've ever met. I don't know
- 12:24Speaker 1: much about ball pressure. I really don't. I don't care
- 12:27Speaker 1: to know much about a really bad story. I never
- 12:30Speaker 1: really thought much of it because, you know, when they
- 12:34Speaker 1: took the balls away, I think the score was fourteen
- 12:37Speaker 1: and seven, and then we beat him forty one to seven.
- 12:40Speaker 1: So I don't think it had anything to do with
- 12:41Speaker 1: the game. All right, you know, you walked the party
- 12:44Speaker 1: line there, but hey, look it's the party line. I
- 12:48Speaker 1: think it's the truth. I mean, look, I don't believe
- 12:50Speaker 1: Lee Harvey Oswald actor alone. I am a conspiracy buff,
- 12:54Speaker 1: but I don't think there's a conspiracy there. All right, well,
- 12:57Speaker 1: you know you took it in a direction that I
- 12:59Speaker 1: don't even know where to go. Keep up here, please,
- 13:02Speaker 1: Jesus guy, your your Leejavey oswalding this interview. Yeah, all right, now,
- 13:09Speaker 1: let's keep going down this so called resume a you has,
- 13:12Speaker 1: You've been with a lot of teams. You keep bouncing
- 13:14Speaker 1: around there. What happens they find out that you're not
- 13:17Speaker 1: Vince Lambody's son and they get rid of you? Yeah? Well,
- 13:21Speaker 1: I think it's more of about collecting, you know, helping
- 13:23Speaker 1: your career. I don't think it's being balanced. I mean,
- 13:25Speaker 1: I've been fortunate. You know, I worked for really, I
- 13:28Speaker 1: worked for three Hall of Fame people. Al Davis, who's
- 13:31Speaker 1: in the Hall of Fame. Do you know who All
- 13:33Speaker 1: Davis is? Come on, come on, come on, you guys.
- 13:37Speaker 1: Do you know who vincelam Body is? I don't think
- 13:39Speaker 1: you do. I didn't think you knew who Al Davis was?
- 13:42Speaker 1: You guys are eago fans I was? Come on? Come on,
- 13:45Speaker 1: listen to all last episode. You're talking to the soult
- 13:48Speaker 1: in the Sports Trivia here gonna come on, let's get
- 13:50Speaker 1: the heard of Bill Walsh. I worked for Bill Walsh. Yes,
- 13:52Speaker 1: we did get intro. Come on, yeah, all right, So,
- 13:56Speaker 1: I mean I haven't really worked for so I worked
- 13:59Speaker 1: for some pretty good people, you know, bounced around. Yeah,
- 14:02Speaker 1: we all get fired. I mean it's kind of a
- 14:03Speaker 1: badge of you. Also, you also left off a key name,
- 14:07Speaker 1: the great organization known as the Philadelphia Eagles. Now it
- 14:12Speaker 1: says you were the director of pro personnel. What the
- 14:16Speaker 1: hell is the director of pro personnel? Like I thought
- 14:19Speaker 1: that they were all pros. Is there a separate director
- 14:22Speaker 1: of amateur personnel? What? Well, that's right, that would be
- 14:25Speaker 1: the director of college personnels, because that's would be That's
- 14:28Speaker 1: why when you get you the sourus out amateur and collegiate.
- 14:32Speaker 1: They're both nonpaid players, even though some would argue that
- 14:36Speaker 1: collegiate football players are paid because of their scholarship. We
- 14:39Speaker 1: could have a sebmatical discussion about that. But you know,
- 14:42Speaker 1: one guy does works on the college draft. The other
- 14:44Speaker 1: guy works strictly on pro football. Oh guy, well, am
- 14:50Speaker 1: I going too fast for you too? Well, don't worry.
- 14:54Speaker 1: We can go faster, right, we can speed this piss
- 14:57Speaker 1: poor interview along tell us who is just Super Bowl pick?
- 15:01Speaker 1: Mr Lombardi? Oh, I got that one. Yeah, let's get
- 15:06Speaker 1: to the let's get to the good stuff. I think
- 15:08Speaker 1: the Eagles will win by ten. Oh that's right. They're
- 15:11Speaker 1: not playing And they knew this was a bullshit season
- 15:18Speaker 1: with COVID. They said, we don't want anybody to risk. Now,
- 15:23Speaker 1: come on, just tell us your picks. Who's coming out
- 15:25Speaker 1: of the end. Just tell us, Like, I like Green
- 15:28Speaker 1: Bay a lot. I think Green Bay is gonna play
- 15:30Speaker 1: really well against Tampa Bay. I thought you like Tom Brady,
- 15:33Speaker 1: wasn't he your friends? Did you just betray Tom Brady? Well,
- 15:38Speaker 1: you know, I'm not betraying. I'm I'm I think Aaron
- 15:40Speaker 1: Rodgers just playing really well. I think we saw that,
- 15:44Speaker 1: you know when the Eagles went up there. I mean,
- 15:47Speaker 1: the Eagles played them as well as anybody, you know,
- 15:49Speaker 1: but they gave up that long run to Aaron Jones.
- 15:51Speaker 1: You remember that run at the end of the game,
- 15:53Speaker 1: and they kind of put the game all right, Alright,
- 15:54Speaker 1: let's not bring up the past. Let's talk about the now.
- 15:57Speaker 1: Who you got coming out of the a f C. Well,
- 16:00Speaker 1: you're I don't know, you know, we don't know if
- 16:02Speaker 1: Mahomes has been clear to play here. You know this
- 16:06Speaker 1: is not let me teach you something because you you
- 16:08Speaker 1: know you're on all these shows. This is not how
- 16:10Speaker 1: you be a professional. You come on a show someone
- 16:13Speaker 1: invites you on. First of all, the first thing you
- 16:15Speaker 1: say is I'm not a relative events labadi. Second is
- 16:19Speaker 1: you have your picks ready to go now based on this,
- 16:22Speaker 1: I think you are disgracing the Lombody name by doing this,
- 16:25Speaker 1: this terrible ball analysis. So I'm not ready tell us
- 16:29Speaker 1: right now. I tell us hoping. I was hoping on
- 16:31Speaker 1: this show you guys would teach me a thing or
- 16:33Speaker 1: two about I am going to teach you. We're gonna
- 16:35Speaker 1: teach you. We're gonna teach you that you should change
- 16:38Speaker 1: your name. So come on right now, say I will
- 16:41Speaker 1: change my name to Michael co Tight. That's Michael Coach.
- 16:45Speaker 1: That's come on, say it right now, I will change
- 16:48Speaker 1: my name to Michael co type yes, and not wearing
- 16:51Speaker 1: an Impex jacket that has an eagle logo on it.
- 16:58Speaker 1: You're changing, but you're aging your name to off the
- 17:01Speaker 1: show because that's where you're going. The only thing what
- 17:13Speaker 1: was that we gotta sue him for false representation. Yeah, hey,
- 17:17Speaker 1: you guys forgot to hang up? What what? What's he
- 17:19Speaker 1: still doing on the Hang up on this guy? Next time,
- 17:22Speaker 1: have a goddamn production me. You can do a little
- 17:24Speaker 1: bit of research. What freaking idiots? What what does happen there?
- 17:29Speaker 1: Vince Lombardy is probably rolling over in his fucking grave
- 17:33Speaker 1: right now. Jay, Two notes for you. One Laurena, how
- 17:36Speaker 1: to hang up a fucking phone and do if a
- 17:39Speaker 1: guy is not related to vincelmbody. You know that's something
- 17:42Speaker 1: you should probably tell us. Yeah, I can't believe this,
- 17:46Speaker 1: all right. Well, you know we're not going to let
- 17:48Speaker 1: that get to us because, as always, we have important
- 17:51Speaker 1: business to do at this time of the show. You know,
- 17:54Speaker 1: another great advertiser coming on board and this week people,
