- 0:47Speaker 1: Welcome to today's edition of Reflection on the Word with
- 0:50Speaker 1: Richard K. I'm Chuck Christie, and today we are asking
- 0:54Speaker 1: you to spend a few moments of your time with
- 0:56Speaker 1: us each day as Richard shares from God's work with notes, quotes,
- 0:59Speaker 1: and story along with some of his own personal experiences,
- 1:02Speaker 1: to confirm for you God's great love for us, that
- 1:05Speaker 1: his compassion for us never fails, and that He has
- 1:08Speaker 1: a great faithfulness toward us in every regard. Now, if
- 1:11Speaker 1: you miss a portion of today's broadcast or would like
- 1:13Speaker 1: to recommend it to a friend, you can hear this
- 1:16Speaker 1: program anytime online at Talknetwork Radio dot com. Well, now
- 1:21Speaker 1: here's Richard with today's reflection.
- 1:24Speaker 2: Children, obey your parents in the Lord, because this is
- 1:27Speaker 2: right under your father and mother, which is the first commandment,
- 1:31Speaker 2: with the promise that it may go well with you
- 1:35Speaker 2: and that you may have a long life in the land.
- 1:38Speaker 2: And Father, don't stir up anger in your children, but
- 1:42Speaker 2: bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Ephesians chapter six and verses one through four. Today is
- 1:53Speaker 2: Father's Day, and we want to take a moment to
- 1:56Speaker 2: be able to discuss how fathers are given an awesome
- 2:01Speaker 2: privilege and responsibility for their children, even those that may
- 2:07Speaker 2: not have physical children. And yet we know that the
- 2:12Speaker 2: household is made.
- 2:14Speaker 3: Up in a family unit by a father and a mother,
- 2:20Speaker 3: And if they are blessed to have children, their children
- 2:24Speaker 3: will become the inheritors.
- 2:27Speaker 2: Of all that they possess. And more importantly than the
- 2:33Speaker 2: materialistic things that they may have gained, the most important
- 2:38Speaker 2: areas of their life instruction would be to teach them
- 2:43Speaker 2: how to find their purpose in God and to find
- 2:48Speaker 2: who they are in God, so that they may be
- 2:52Speaker 2: able to become those that are the children of God.
- 2:58Speaker 2: Children every where are in need of fathers. It is
- 3:03Speaker 2: a sad commentary on present day society that such a
- 3:08Speaker 2: high percentage of children are raised in homes without a
- 3:13Speaker 2: father present. Divorces caused many to accept an alternate lifestyle,
- 3:20Speaker 2: even the lifestyle of same sex relationships. In most of
- 3:25Speaker 2: the public schools, teachers are more inclined to recognize a
- 3:29Speaker 2: grandmother or aunt as being the one responsible for the
- 3:34Speaker 2: student's learning at home. What has happened? We can all
- 3:39Speaker 2: remember the old but true sayings like a family that
- 3:43Speaker 2: prais together stays together. Unfortunately, the statistics are not much
- 3:48Speaker 2: better in professed Christian homes. There is a moral decline
- 3:53Speaker 2: evident in our society that allows our children to develop
- 3:57Speaker 2: as very stunted individuals. Our families and homes are under attack.
- 4:03Speaker 2: We are spiraling downward with every loss of godlike principles.
- 4:10Speaker 2: Secular organizations have become a substitute for not having a
- 4:14Speaker 2: father's influence in the home. Big brothers, big sisters offer
- 4:19Speaker 2: children some sense of being accepted in value. Many organizations
- 4:25Speaker 2: like Boy's Club and Girls Club of America have helped
- 4:29Speaker 2: to fill the void of a missing father's influence for
- 4:33Speaker 2: orphaned children. Churches and faith based camps provide some means
- 4:38Speaker 2: of changing a child's view of the world, but they
- 4:42Speaker 2: also need to see themselves differently, and they must see
- 4:48Speaker 2: their God. Regardless of the reason, we must acknowledge that
- 4:52Speaker 2: there have been orphans since man chose to disobey God.
- 4:57Speaker 2: Jesus made special emphasis in is discipleship training to illustrate
- 5:03Speaker 2: the need for a close relationship with the Father. Our
- 5:07Speaker 2: Father has been revealed to us in the earthly actions
- 5:12Speaker 2: of Jesus. There were broken homes then, and there are
- 5:16Speaker 2: broken homes now. Children were orphaned by being victims of war, pestilence,
- 5:22Speaker 2: and poverty. In many parts of the world. Today children
- 5:27Speaker 2: live in the worst possible conditions. In India, a whole
- 5:32Speaker 2: society has emerged where children live and survive in garbage dumps. James,
- 5:40Speaker 2: the earthly brother of Jesus, knew the need for the
- 5:44Speaker 2: Church taking the upper hand in the care of widows
- 5:49Speaker 2: and orphans. He summarized true religion in this statement, pure
- 5:55Speaker 2: religion and undefiled before God and the Father. Is this
- 6:01Speaker 2: to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction and
- 6:05Speaker 2: to keep himself unspotted from the world James one, twenty seven.
- 6:11Speaker 2: Earthly fathers should be those who help to produce the children,
- 6:16Speaker 2: but also men willing to devote their lives to influence
- 6:21Speaker 2: children who do not have an earthly father in their home.
- 6:26Speaker 2: Earthly fathers are to help their children realize the love
- 6:30Speaker 2: of their heavenly father. They are to point them to
- 6:34Speaker 2: the one father who would send his only son to
- 6:39Speaker 2: live and die for them. We can't change the cause
- 6:44Speaker 2: of orphaned children, but we can volunteer our time, talent,
- 6:49Speaker 2: and treasure as an investment in bringing these children into
- 6:54Speaker 2: a loving relationship with their heavenly Father. As we view
- 6:59Speaker 2: Father's Day. Let us seem more than the world's image
- 7:03Speaker 2: of a diminishing, failing to care man that somehow biologically
- 7:09Speaker 2: brought about offspring. Let us represent to this world men
- 7:14Speaker 2: who value the life of every child, born and unborn,
- 7:19Speaker 2: and ultimately reborn in the love of their heavenly Father,
- 7:25Speaker 2: this Sunday being Father's Day. If you're a father, then
- 7:29Speaker 2: you know some of what is expected and probably much
- 7:35Speaker 2: of the attempt to fulfill that expectation. Children grow up
- 7:40Speaker 2: in the admonition of the Lord because of the way
- 7:43Speaker 2: they view their father. In many homes where the father
- 7:47Speaker 2: is absent, leaving the mother is very difficult, trying to
- 7:51Speaker 2: balance between her love and care for the children and
- 7:55Speaker 2: instructing them in God's ways. It is said in an
- 7:59Speaker 2: old Jewish proverb that when a father gives to his son,
- 8:04Speaker 2: both laugh. When a son gives to his father, both cry.
- 8:10Speaker 2: A dad dreams, he plans, He struggles that his children
- 8:15Speaker 2: might have the best. His sacrifice is quiet, His life
- 8:20Speaker 2: is love expressed. A father is neither an anchor to
- 8:23Speaker 2: hold us back, nor a sail to take us there,
- 8:27Speaker 2: but a guiding light whose love shows us the way
- 8:31Speaker 2: A child has spoken the greatest gift I ever had
- 8:36Speaker 2: come from God. I call him Dad. It is said
- 8:40Speaker 2: that there are three simple stages of a man's life.
- 8:45Speaker 2: First he believes in Santa Claus. Then he doesn't believe
- 8:51Speaker 2: in Santa Claus, and then he is Santa Claus. Thanks
- 8:56Speaker 2: to fathers who guided us when we needed a leader,
- 9:00Speaker 2: and for following when we needed to test our wings,
- 9:04Speaker 2: who always walked with us, whether we saw them or not,
- 9:08Speaker 2: and regardless of the distance, would always come when we call.
- 9:13Speaker 2: Another child writes, regardless of what others think of me,
- 9:18Speaker 2: you see me for who I am, despite what others
- 9:22Speaker 2: say about me. You fill my ears with praise. When
- 9:27Speaker 2: others tear me down, you build me up when my
- 9:30Speaker 2: world crumbles, You're there to put the pieces back together again.
- 9:36Speaker 2: You're my protector, sheltering me from the storms of life.
- 9:40Speaker 2: You are my avenger, shielding me from the sharp arrows
- 9:44Speaker 2: of scorn. You are my provider, always helping when I
- 9:49Speaker 2: need you. This is a godly father.
- 9:55Speaker 1: Richard will be right back in a moment to wrap up.
- 9:58Speaker 1: But if you've just joined us, you've been listening to
- 10:00Speaker 1: reflections on the Word with Richard K. You can hear
- 10:03Speaker 1: this message in its entirety again online, as well as
- 10:06Speaker 1: Richard's entire archive at Talknetwork Radio dot com. We would
- 10:11Speaker 1: like to acknowledge our theme song, how Great Is Thy Faithfulness,
- 10:14Speaker 1: from the America's twenty five Favorite Hymns album unless otherwise.
- 10:19Speaker 1: Express scriptures are read from the Holman Christian Standard Bible,
- 10:23Speaker 1: which is published by Homan Bible Publishers in Nashville, Tennessee.
- 10:27Speaker 1: Additional resources used for reflections on the Word with Richard
- 10:30Speaker 1: K include Great Is Thy Faithfulness by Our Daily Bread
- 10:35Speaker 1: and printed by Discovery House Publishers. Again here is Richard
- 10:39Speaker 1: to wrap up today's message.
- 10:43Speaker 2: God took the strength of a mountain, the majesty of
- 10:46Speaker 2: a tree, the warmth of a summer sun, the calm
- 10:51Speaker 2: of a quiet sea, the generous soul of nature, the
- 10:56Speaker 2: comforting arm of night, The wisdom of the ages, is
- 11:00Speaker 2: the power of the eagle's flight, the joy of a
- 11:04Speaker 2: morning in spring, the faith of a mustard seed, the
- 11:08Speaker 2: patience of eternity, the depth of a family need. Then
- 11:14Speaker 2: God combined all these qualities. When there was nothing more
- 11:19Speaker 2: to add. He knew his masterpiece was complete, and so
- 11:25Speaker 2: he called it Dad. You could be a biological father
- 11:31Speaker 2: without love, but it takes the love of God to
- 11:34Speaker 2: make you a dead. Happy Father's Day to all of
- 11:41Speaker 2: you who are blessed to have biological children or that
- 11:47Speaker 2: can influence those that are orphaned children without another guide.
- 11:55Speaker 2: We look forward to seeing more father bringing children to
- 12:03Speaker 2: the Lord. And that is today's Reflection on the Word.
- 12:10Speaker 1: Thank you, Richard. Join us again tomorrow when we continue
- 12:13Speaker 1: with the next edition of Reflections on the Word with
- 12:16Speaker 1: Richard k or Richard on the entire team. This is
- 12:19Speaker 1: Chuck Christie saying thanks for listening to this edition of
- 12:22Speaker 1: Reflections on the Word.
