- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome to Real Talk with Mike D. All right. Welcome
- 0:06Speaker 1: back to Real Talk with Mike D. I am Mike D.
- 0:12Speaker 1: And boy, do I got a good one for us today.
- 0:16Speaker 1: This subject is near and dear to my heart. I
- 0:20Speaker 1: think it will be to my listeners as well. It's
- 0:25Speaker 1: the power of hard rock and heavy metal. So sit back,
- 0:32Speaker 1: grab a drink, and let's get started. Today we're talking
- 0:38Speaker 1: about something that just isn't music. It's an attitude. It's
- 0:43Speaker 1: an emotion. It's a release. It's loud guitars, pounding drums,
- 0:49Speaker 1: screaming vocals, and lyrics that sometimes say the things we're
- 0:54Speaker 1: afraid to say ourselves. That's right. Today we're talking about
- 0:58Speaker 1: hard rock and heavy metal. Now, if you're somebody who
- 1:02Speaker 1: doesn't understand heavy metal, you might hear the screaming, the distortion,
- 1:07Speaker 1: and the pounding drums and think, man, how can anybody
- 1:11Speaker 1: listen to that? But if you're a metalhead, you already know.
- 1:15Speaker 1: There's something about that music that hits different. Hard rock
- 1:20Speaker 1: and heavy metal have always been about more than making noise.
- 1:24Speaker 1: They're about expression. They're about taking anger, frustration, heartbreak, Loneliness, confidence, rebellion,
- 1:34Speaker 1: and turning all of it into music. Think about what
- 1:38Speaker 1: a great guitar riff can do. You can have a
- 1:41Speaker 1: bad day. You can be stressed out. You can feel
- 1:44Speaker 1: like the whole world is against you. Then you put
- 1:48Speaker 1: on that one song, crank that volume up, and suddenly
- 1:52Speaker 1: you feel like you can take on anything. That's the
- 1:56Speaker 1: power of music. And rock music has been doing that
- 2:00Speaker 1: for generations. From the classic sounds of Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin,
- 2:06Speaker 1: Deep Purple, ACDC, the bands like Metallica, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Motorhead, Slayer, Pantera,
- 2:16Speaker 1: and Megadeth. Rock and metal keep evolving. The sound got heavier,
- 2:23Speaker 1: the guitars got louder, the drums got harder, and the
- 2:27Speaker 1: attitudes It never went away. One of the things I
- 2:34Speaker 1: love about hard rock and heavy metal is that it
- 2:36Speaker 1: doesn't always try to make everything sound pretty. Because sometimes
- 2:41Speaker 1: life isn't pretty. Sometimes you're pissed off. Sometimes you're hurting.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Sometimes you're trying to overcome something. And sometimes you just
- 2:51Speaker 1: need a song that understands exactly where your head is.
- 2:55Speaker 1: That's where metal comes in. You can throw on a
- 2:58Speaker 1: song and scream along with it in your car. Nobody cares.
- 3:03Speaker 1: You're not hurting anybody. You're just letting it out. And
- 3:06Speaker 1: maybe that's one of the reasons this music has connected
- 3:09Speaker 1: with so many people for so many years. Because underneath
- 3:13Speaker 1: all those heavy riffs, there's usually something real. Pain. Struggle. Freedom. Rebellion. Hope.
- 3:25Speaker 1: And sometimes... Just having a damn good time. Now, let's
- 3:31Speaker 1: talk about one of the most important parts of rock
- 3:33Speaker 1: and metal, the guitar. There's nothing quite like hearing a
- 3:38Speaker 1: killer guitar riff. The few seconds of a song can
- 3:42Speaker 1: tell you everything you need to know. You hear the guitar,
- 3:46Speaker 1: and you already know. Here we go. Then comes the drums. Boom, boom, boom.
- 3:54Speaker 1: The bass kicks in. the singer comes screaming through the speakers,
- 3:59Speaker 1: and suddenly you're not just listening to music, you're inside
- 4:03Speaker 1: the music. And then there's the guitar solo. Now, I
- 4:09Speaker 1: know not everybody understands guitar solos, but for rock fans,
- 4:14Speaker 1: a great solo can feel like guitarist is actually talking
- 4:17Speaker 1: through the instrument. No words, no emotion, every note matters,
- 4:25Speaker 1: every band Every scream from that guitar, it's almost like
- 4:30Speaker 1: another voice. There have been so many legendary bands that
- 4:36Speaker 1: it's impossible to mention them all. But you've got bands
- 4:40Speaker 1: like Black Sabbath, who helped lay the foundation for heavy metal.
- 4:46Speaker 1: You've got ACDC, with riffs that practically demand you turn
- 4:50Speaker 1: up the volume. You've got Judas Priest, who helped define
- 4:55Speaker 1: the classic metal sound. Then you've got Iron Maiden, with
- 5:00Speaker 1: incredible music, recognizable songs, and heavy metal. Then came bands
- 5:09Speaker 1: like Metallica, who brought heavy metal to an enormous audience.
- 5:14Speaker 1: And let's not forget Pantera. Good old Pantera. That groove.
- 5:21Speaker 1: Those riffs. That attitude. That was something completely different And
- 5:29Speaker 1: there are other countless others. Ozzy Osbourne, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, Motorhead, Tool, Korn, Slipknot,
- 5:37Speaker 1: Five Finger Death Punch. The list goes on and on
- 5:40Speaker 1: and on. Different sounds, different generations, different styles. But one
- 5:47Speaker 1: thing connects them all. They made music that people felt. Yes,
- 5:54Speaker 1: they sure did. They definitely made music that people felt.
- 5:58Speaker 1: That's why I, Mike D, am a true metalhead. And
- 6:06Speaker 1: I'm sure my listeners are metalheads just as well. Anyhow,
- 6:12Speaker 1: that was a little taste of hard rock and heavy
- 6:14Speaker 1: metal and why it's the greatest music to ever walk
- 6:21Speaker 1: the face of the earth. I appreciate you all being here.
- 6:26Speaker 1: I appreciate you all listening. I will see you all
- 6:30Speaker 1: on the next one. Raise your horns and listen to metal.
