Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: So first thing this morning, I said to Bill, are
- 0:02Speaker 1: we making Spencer Cox a boner candidate today? And he said, no,
- 0:06Speaker 1: Let's spend a whole break discussing what happened yesterday.
- 0:10Speaker 2: It's Pride Month and all month long, people all over
- 0:16Speaker 2: the country celebrating pride, Gay pride, LGBTQ plus. Utah Governor
- 0:22Speaker 2: Spencer Cox yesterday or a couple of days ago, declared
- 0:25Speaker 2: June twenty twenty six not Pride Month as he has
- 0:29Speaker 2: in the past. He's calling it this is Fidelity Month,
- 0:34Speaker 2: calling for a return to America's core values. As Republican
- 0:38Speaker 2: led states across the country issue various proclamations in reaction
- 0:42Speaker 2: to Pride Month celebrations, Utah joined Arkansas in endorsing Fidelity Month,
- 0:47Speaker 2: of Course, a movement promoted by conservative scholar Robert George.
- 0:52Speaker 2: The initiative urges Americans to rededicate themselves to the principles
- 0:57Speaker 2: of God, marriage, family, country, and community. Cox's announcement comes
- 1:03Speaker 2: amid differing June declarations and after his shift on whether
- 1:07Speaker 2: to recognize Pride Month. This year, Tennessee, Alabama, and Indiana
- 1:11Speaker 2: proclaimed June as Nuclear Family Month, underscoring the role of
- 1:15Speaker 2: traditional families. Oklahoma declared June Life Month, committing to support
- 1:20Speaker 2: unborn humans from conception. The Spencer Cox has declared this
- 1:28Speaker 2: is Fidelity Month. As governor of Utah. He has changed
- 1:31Speaker 2: his Pride Month messaging considerably since entering office in twenty
- 1:35Speaker 2: twenty one. Twenty twenty two to twenty three, Cox made
- 1:38Speaker 2: Utah one of the only Republican leading states to officially
- 1:42Speaker 2: recognize LGBTQ plus Pride Month. Ahead of a primary election
- 1:47Speaker 2: in June, he stated his past declarations had turned into
- 1:50Speaker 2: a lightning rod for more division and hurt. The governor
- 1:53Speaker 2: instead declared June a month of bridge building. Last year,
- 1:58Speaker 2: Cox didn't issue a declaration for June at all. Now
- 2:01Speaker 2: it's Fidelity Month. I have a couple of emails from
- 2:07Speaker 2: friends of the program here that will address this. This
- 2:10Speaker 2: one says, good morning. Years ago. I was introduced to
- 2:14Speaker 2: Spencer Cox through listening to your show Sorry as a dirty,
- 2:19Speaker 2: filthy liberal, I fundamentally disagreed with him on a lot
- 2:22Speaker 2: of issues. However, through your show and your discussions with him,
- 2:27Speaker 2: I find myself actually thinking, well, this is a reasonable person,
- 2:30Speaker 2: and I was actually kind of happy when he was
- 2:32Speaker 2: first elected governor. I find myself thinking about where that
- 2:36Speaker 2: person went whenever I hear him speak. Nowadays, the same
- 2:40Speaker 2: person that vetoed the anti trans in sports bill, bucked
- 2:44Speaker 2: his own party and shed tears in a press conference
- 2:47Speaker 2: now has the gall to declare Fidelity Month a pathetic
- 2:51Speaker 2: attempt to upstage the LGBTQ community in this city and
- 2:56Speaker 2: state by promoting family values. You know, the same family
- 2:59Speaker 2: values that are trampled on every day by members of
- 3:03Speaker 2: his own party and the current occupant of the Oval office.
- 3:06Speaker 2: The Data Center backroom deal with Kevin O'Leary doesn't help matters,
- 3:10Speaker 2: and his absolute petulance at being questioned or even criticized
- 3:14Speaker 2: proves that his disagree better stance applies to everybody but him.
- 3:19Speaker 2: I want to believe that the Spencer Cox that appeared
- 3:22Speaker 2: on your show years ago is the real person and
- 3:24Speaker 2: not the impostor, But I don't know. I love Utah,
- 3:28Speaker 2: I love Salt Lake City, I love the LGBTQ community
- 3:31Speaker 2: in the city, and I'm horrified and upset at what
- 3:34Speaker 2: is currently being done by Republican leaders attempting to erase
- 3:38Speaker 2: this community.
- 3:39Speaker 3: The one thing they won't do, however.
- 3:41Speaker 2: Is succeed because deep down, well deep down Spencer should
- 3:45Speaker 2: know that thanks for letting me listen see at the
- 3:47Speaker 2: party on Saturday.
- 3:49Speaker 3: PS.
- 3:50Speaker 2: If this is an event it gets read, please feel
- 3:51Speaker 2: free to edit for revenue. And then one other email, Hi, Lords,
- 3:58Speaker 2: I thought it was time to join the celebration forty years.
- 4:03Speaker 2: It's rare for anything to last this long in today's
- 4:06Speaker 2: day and age, but Bravo Radio from Hell. In a
- 4:10Speaker 2: strange way, I feel like you are all part of
- 4:12Speaker 2: my family. I remember first meeting you and Carrie Bell
- 4:16Speaker 2: when I was introduced to you at squatters and maybe
- 4:19Speaker 2: nineteen ninety five. I think we also my wife at
- 4:24Speaker 2: the time, and I made it to the studio for
- 4:26Speaker 2: a family feud. And then I remember reading stories to
- 4:29Speaker 2: Aiden Ginu's kid at lunch at Saint Joseph's villa when
- 4:34Speaker 2: I was going through my divorce. I didn't have any
- 4:37Speaker 2: idea I was reading to a celebrities kid, but I'm
- 4:39Speaker 2: glad I did. And I think I actually met Sue
- 4:42Speaker 2: there one time. I am compelled to write now because
- 4:46Speaker 2: I'm kind of in transition. I've decided to sell my
- 4:49Speaker 2: house in Salt Lake. By the way, this person is
- 4:52Speaker 2: living back east somewhere now right now, I don't remember where.
- 4:55Speaker 2: I've decided to sell my house in Salt Lake. You
- 4:57Speaker 2: know anybody who's looking for a great location in Sugarhille.
- 5:00Speaker 2: It'll be an end of an era for me. And
- 5:02Speaker 2: I am comforted by the fact that my son is
- 5:05Speaker 2: buying a house near Nibley Park, so I'll have a
- 5:08Speaker 2: place to crash when I come back for the big
- 5:10Speaker 2: ass show.
- 5:10Speaker 3: You still do that, right.
- 5:13Speaker 2: I loved growing old with you guys, And I leave
- 5:16Speaker 2: you with some pictures from the two thousand and six
- 5:19Speaker 2: Pride parade, the first one I was in, and it's
- 5:23Speaker 2: the one where I'm sure that you guys and I
- 5:26Speaker 2: turned my son Nico gay.
- 5:27Speaker 4: That's the whole point. That's what we're trying to do.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Thanks for letting me listen, Chuck. And then that brings
- 5:35Speaker 2: up the fact that Pride. I assume the parade is
- 5:42Speaker 2: going on Sunday. Yes, it will be the first time
- 5:46Speaker 2: in fifteen years. Maybe yeah, that we have not been
- 5:52Speaker 2: in that parade. That's not and I'm not sure why.
- 5:56Speaker 2: I don't really know why. I am sure why we
- 6:00Speaker 2: aren't in that parade.
- 6:03Speaker 5: I think it's it's not necessarily an internal decision.
- 6:07Speaker 3: It's it's what.
- 6:10Speaker 2: Has always happened in the past, is the organizers of
- 6:13Speaker 2: Pride have come, you know, said Okay, we're gonna expect
- 6:16Speaker 2: you to be in the parade this year again, and
- 6:18Speaker 2: we want to talk about it on the radio. And
- 6:20Speaker 2: you know, the Pride the big festival at after the
- 6:22Speaker 2: parade at the Washington Square the city at the library,
- 6:26Speaker 2: and and they come and they say, yeah, and of
- 6:28Speaker 2: course we'll be in the parade and we'll pay our
- 6:30Speaker 2: entry fee and we just and then somebody says, hey,
- 6:34Speaker 2: we need a vehicle, and one of the salespeople say, okay,
- 6:36Speaker 2: i'll rat and I'll get you jeep and we'll make
- 6:39Speaker 2: some signs and we were just in it. It's just
- 6:43Speaker 2: and then but nobody said anything this year. And I
- 6:45Speaker 2: mean I wasn't thinking about it, because you know, we're
- 6:47Speaker 2: thinking about our forty.
- 6:49Speaker 4: Comes to us and it arranges. Yeah, this wasn't a
- 6:52Speaker 4: purposeful Uh. It was an oversight, I guess.
- 6:55Speaker 2: And it's I don't in any way want it to
- 6:58Speaker 2: be construed that that we are purpose that we are
- 7:03Speaker 2: in any way lacking in our support for the LGBTQ
- 7:09Speaker 2: plus community. We fought and fought and fought to be
- 7:13Speaker 2: in that parade to be allowed in that parade because
- 7:15Speaker 2: our management at the time said no, and they said
- 7:17Speaker 2: no for several years in a row.
- 7:19Speaker 3: No, you can't be in it.
- 7:20Speaker 2: No, no, Finally, okay, you guys can be in it,
- 7:24Speaker 2: but our country station can't be in it. And you know,
- 7:28Speaker 2: And so there it was, and we were there every
- 7:32Speaker 2: year enjoying you all on the parade route. The show
- 7:41Speaker 2: of love and support that you all gave us was
- 7:45Speaker 2: something I'll really missed this year. Yeah, and I and
- 7:50Speaker 2: I Yeah.
- 7:51Speaker 5: It was not an internal conscious decision to.
- 7:53Speaker 2: Not be there and all of this Spencer Cox and
- 7:58Speaker 2: all of these other states a change, but veering away
- 8:02Speaker 2: from pride this is a huge mistake.
- 8:05Speaker 4: Can I can I pivot back to that?
- 8:07Speaker 1: So the declaration on that fidelity means a dedication to faith, family,
- 8:13Speaker 1: and country. So I'll say two things about that. Yeah,
- 8:17Speaker 1: lgbt Q people, they have faith, have faith, family, country.
- 8:22Speaker 1: This is not an opposing viewpoint.
- 8:25Speaker 4: This is not this or that it's a secret opposing
- 8:29Speaker 4: view in their.
- 8:32Speaker 3: In their minds.
- 8:32Speaker 1: It is I would also say, Governor Cox, you represent
- 8:38Speaker 1: all of the citizens here of the state.
- 8:40Speaker 4: Not all of them have faith or family or like
- 8:44Speaker 4: the country.
- 8:44Speaker 5: You're you're talking about the old Republican Party.
- 8:47Speaker 3: They don't do that anymore.
- 8:48Speaker 1: And I would point back to the first email that
- 8:52Speaker 1: Bill read, And I feel exactly the same way. When
- 8:56Speaker 1: we had Governor Cox on our show for years we
- 8:59Speaker 1: had him on, I genuinely.
- 9:02Speaker 4: Believed that he.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Was open to all all points of view and was
- 9:09Speaker 1: willing to talk about things. And I went back and
- 9:12Speaker 1: looked in twenty twenty four, that was not that long ago.
- 9:16Speaker 1: He was on CNN with Caitlyn Collins, and we love
- 9:19Speaker 1: Caitlyn Collins, Yes, and he told her, I didn't vote
- 9:23Speaker 1: for Donald Trump last time, and I'm not voting for
- 9:25Speaker 1: him this time because of January sixth, then all these
- 9:29Speaker 1: other things. The next Monday after he was on that show,
- 9:35Speaker 1: he did a pivot, and that pivot has gotten harder
- 9:39Speaker 1: and harder and harder. And I I don't recognize who
- 9:46Speaker 1: he is anymore.
- 9:48Speaker 5: I'm I'm sorry that we had him on all those
- 9:51Speaker 5: all those shows.
- 9:51Speaker 3: No, I'm not. It was good. It was a good thing.
- 9:54Speaker 3: Now we humanized him. He was he was human, He's
- 9:58Speaker 3: still a human.
- 9:59Speaker 1: This is all per forums agree, this is all performative
- 10:03Speaker 1: for him. I don't I know he's not running for governor. Again,
- 10:06Speaker 1: I don't know if he's running for mother office. That's
- 10:10Speaker 1: the only thing I can think of is why he's
- 10:12Speaker 1: doing this is because he has aspirations to do other things.
- 10:15Speaker 1: But I'm so disappointed because I feel like somewhere in
- 10:18Speaker 1: the core of him, this is not who he is.
- 10:22Speaker 1: And maybe it's changed, maybe he is now, but I
- 10:26Speaker 1: am so disappointed in him.
- 10:29Speaker 5: If you yeah, how about multiple Partners Month?
- 10:33Speaker 3: How about that?
- 10:35Speaker 5: How about Sister Wives Month?
- 10:38Speaker 2: The the this, this, this group that, this fidelity month.
- 10:49Speaker 2: If you read into these people, they're they're hateful and bitter.
- 10:52Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 10:53Speaker 2: Yeah, that's his fidelity month. That sounds That sounds wonderful,
- 10:56Speaker 2: doesn't it. They are hateful, bitter people. And it's a mistake.
- 11:02Speaker 2: It is a mistake to pivot away from this. It's
- 11:05Speaker 2: a mistake to say to pretend that the LGBTQ plus
- 11:09Speaker 2: community is it doesn't exist, or like that Andy Ogle's
- 11:14Speaker 2: representative homosexuality has no place in America.
- 11:18Speaker 1: Well, Andy, here's what State Senator Jim Plump says. So
- 11:24Speaker 1: pride is a recognition of a community that's fought for
- 11:27Speaker 1: generations to be seen valued and treated with dignity. It's
- 11:31Speaker 1: a celebration of people who have too often been told
- 11:33Speaker 1: they don't belong exactly. The message sent by this action
- 11:36Speaker 1: is clear. At a time when LGBTQ plus people are
- 11:39Speaker 1: facing increasing hostility across the country, Utah's highest elected official
- 11:43Speaker 1: chose to not stand with them, and I reject that message.
- 11:50Speaker 5: I'm getting a lot of texts saying I voted for
- 11:52Speaker 5: Cox for all the reasons that Gina mentioned.
- 11:54Speaker 3: I feel ripped off.
- 11:57Speaker 1: I feel like I've said for a while, and Carrie
- 12:01Speaker 1: is against this, but I would like to have him
- 12:03Speaker 1: on and I would like to have this conversation with him.
- 12:06Speaker 1: I want him on the show and say, this is
- 12:09Speaker 1: how things were last.
- 12:10Speaker 4: Time we had you on.
- 12:11Speaker 1: These are discussions we had and you had this position
- 12:13Speaker 1: and you've completely changed.
- 12:14Speaker 4: I would like you to explain yourself. He won't do it, but.
- 12:21Speaker 3: He's it's I.
- 12:25Speaker 5: Mean, it's it's it's it's it's motions like this that
- 12:28Speaker 5: make you realize why they need Pride Month, you know, Yeah.
- 12:33Speaker 1: Because isn't every month, Fidelity isn't everyone. Yeah, Nuclear Family
- 12:37Speaker 1: Month isn't.
- 12:38Speaker 2: Every It's again, I just want to reiterate I think
- 12:42Speaker 2: it's a mistake. It's a mistake. You know, there are
- 12:45Speaker 2: all these statistics coming out saying that Republicans are starting
- 12:51Speaker 2: to be less inclined to support pride and to support
- 12:56Speaker 2: gay people their heart. They're turning away from it. There
- 13:00Speaker 2: had been a there had been a softening, there had
- 13:02Speaker 2: been Ah, you know, I have a gay neighbor. They're fine,
- 13:06Speaker 2: you know, it's my son, and that's but something's something's
- 13:11Speaker 2: trying to shift it away. And and by doing it,
- 13:14Speaker 2: you're making a big mistake. You are making a big
- 13:17Speaker 2: mistake by doing that. If you, if you, if you
- 13:20Speaker 2: let that happen, because because the because the gay population
- 13:24Speaker 2: is here and will always be here, and they are
- 13:27Speaker 2: your friends and neighbors and family members.
- 13:30Speaker 5: And let's not forget our high suicide rate.
- 13:32Speaker 4: Well you know, yes, things like this make that exactly exactly.
- 13:39Speaker 4: I'm so disappointed.
- 13:41Speaker 5: No, he's uh, I don't know if I ever can
- 13:48Speaker 5: forgive it honestly, anyway, that's and we're sorry, we're not
- 13:53Speaker 5: going to be in pride.
- 13:56Speaker 3: It somehow got away, and not by true.
- 14:00Speaker 5: I think it was a combination of they've got new
- 14:03Speaker 5: management over a pride and.
- 14:06Speaker 1: Maybe then the new people didn't know how it usually works.
- 14:10Speaker 5: And then we were planning our fortieth and you know,
- 14:15Speaker 5: I hear that the price to be in the parade
- 14:18Speaker 5: went up as well. But you know, it just it's
- 14:21Speaker 5: it's not conscious.
- 14:23Speaker 3: Just know that it's not conscious.
