- 1:39of the year.
- 1:42All right, guys.
- 1:43So lost your momentum.
- 1:46Here's how we're going to get it back.
- 1:48Series five, show number 41, episode number six,
- 1:51and it is another great day.
- 1:53It's Thursday.
- 1:53So welcome, as I said, to another empowering
- 1:56episode of the ever popular inspirations for your
- 1:59life.
- 1:59So who am I?
- 2:00I'm John C.
- 2:01Morley.
- 2:02I'm a serial entrepreneur.
- 2:03I'm an engineer.
- 2:04I'm a marketing specialist, video producer, podcast host,
- 2:07coach, keynote speaker, passionate lifelong learner, a graduate
- 2:11student here at Montclair State University, and so
- 2:14grateful now to be a publisher.
- 2:15So I am on a live campus, so
- 2:17we never know what's going to happen.
- 2:19People are going to walk in front of
- 2:20me, behind me.
- 2:21Trucks are going to make noise.
- 2:22Different things are going to happen.
- 2:24One time we had somebody on campus literally
- 2:27reporting a theft of a bike just before
- 2:28we got there.
- 2:29So hopefully it's going to be quiet.
- 2:30I try to pick areas.
- 2:31I'm right by this diner here, but there's
- 2:33still people coming around, but hopefully they're not
- 2:36going to directly interfere with the show itself.
- 2:38So we know our weekly topic is momentum
- 2:41changes everything.
- 2:43So today we're discussing something that happens to
- 2:48almost every single person in the world.
- 2:50You were making progress.
- 2:52Things were moving.
- 2:53You had a routine, and then something suddenly
- 2:55just interrupted you out of the blue.
- 2:57You didn't plan for it.
- 2:57Maybe work became overwhelming.
- 3:00Maybe unexpected responsibilities appeared.
- 3:02Maybe you simply lost your rhythm, and suddenly
- 3:06days turned into weeks, right?
- 3:08And this is a problem for some people,
- 3:11and now you're wondering how to get moving
- 3:14again.
- 3:14I know a lot of people ask this
- 3:16question.
- 3:16So losing your momentum does not erase your
- 3:19previous progress.
- 3:20Let me be very, very clear about that,
- 3:23okay?
- 3:24Everything you've learned still matters.
- 3:26The experience you've gained hasn't disappeared.
- 3:30You aren't starting from nothing, guys.
- 3:32So let's talk about how to get your
- 3:34momentum back, and I think everybody wants to
- 3:36know how to do that.
- 3:37First, stop turning one interruption into a permanent
- 3:41ending of interruptions.
- 3:42Missing a day doesn't mean you failed.
- 3:45Neither does missing a week.
- 3:46Interruption is an event in your life, not
- 3:48a permanent identity.
- 3:49It's like a bump in the road.
- 3:50So get over it and move on.
- 3:53You decide what happens next, okay?
- 3:55Number two, restart sooner in your life.
- 3:59Then you're actually going to feel comfortable.
- 4:02So waiting until you feel completely ready can
- 4:05create even more delay.
- 4:07Sometimes readiness returns after you take action.
- 4:11Don't wait for confidence to give you permission.
- 4:13Number three, your comeback doesn't need to be
- 4:16dramatic.
- 4:17You don't need a huge announcement or an
- 4:19extraordinary plan.
- 4:20Quietly returning to something important can be more
- 4:24powerful than promising everyone a spectacular comeback.
- 4:28Number four, begin with the smallest useful action.
- 4:32Open the project, review your notes, write one
- 4:36paragraph, make one important call, right?
- 4:39Small actions reduce resistance and give you something
- 4:42real to build upon.
- 4:44Fifth, avoid punishing yourself for getting off track.
- 4:47I think a lot of people like, oh,
- 4:49I'm going to like, you know, not reward
- 4:52myself.
- 4:53I'm going to reprimand myself.
- 4:54Don't do that, right?
- 4:55Don't do that.
- 4:56Take responsibility and learn what happened and go
- 4:59and move forward.
- 5:00Number six, shame consumes energy you could use
- 5:04to restore.
- 5:05Every minute spent, well, can be challenging for
- 5:11some people.
- 5:12Replaying your disappointment is energy unavailable for progress
- 5:15that you can move forward.
- 5:16So replace I should have done better with
- 5:19what can I now do or what can
- 5:21I do now?
- 5:23Before I move to point number seven, I
- 5:24want to share with you a shout out
- 5:26to a local coffee place.
- 5:28And I'm actually going to pick one right
- 5:30here in Montclair, New Jersey, since I am
- 5:32in Montclair right now.
- 5:33The place I want to talk to is
- 5:36shouting out to is it's called 787 Coffee
- 5:40and they're open now.
- 5:43They close at 7 p.m. And their
- 5:47website says, hello, caffeinated human, which I think
- 5:50is kind of neat.
- 5:51So they have a shop to do catering.
- 5:53They have locations and yeah, they have single
- 5:58origin Puerto Rican coffee, freshly roasted specialty beans,
- 6:03rum infused coffee beans, whiskey infused coffee beans,
- 6:07tequila infused coffee beans.
- 6:11They've got a coffee called Love You and
- 6:13their prices range for their bags basically from
- 6:1640.
- 6:17And I see some prices.
- 6:18They go.
- 6:19I even see one bag here.
- 6:20I'm not sure why it's a lot.
- 6:22One's 44.
- 6:23And then I see one here for 250.
- 6:25Oh, it's a five pound mocha infused decaf.
- 6:27So they have different bags.
- 6:29So the ones that start out freshly origin.
- 6:32But if you go to like one of
- 6:33their smaller bags, you know, they can be
- 6:36they can be less might even have and
- 6:38they have an eco Puerto Rican ostrich cost
- 6:42a sticker.
- 6:43They have a sticker.
- 6:43It's ten dollars.
- 6:44So they have different things.
- 6:45They have catering, they have location.
- 6:47So like I said, we are on a
- 6:48live campus.
- 6:49We've got trucks, we've got noises.
- 6:50We never know who's going to be around
- 6:52us, what's going to go on.
- 6:53So, again, I do apologize for the interruption,
- 6:55but that's kind of fun of broadcasting live
- 6:57in environment.
- 6:57We never know what's going to happen.
- 6:58So shout out to 787, Puerto Rico's finest
- 7:02coffee company.
- 7:03And again, they are located right here in
- 7:07Montclair, New Jersey.
- 7:09They're at 706 Bloomfield Avenue, Montclair, New Jersey.
- 7:13And I'm shouting out to them because I
- 7:14want to invite them to come to Jason
- 7:16Academy dot com.
- 7:17Click on the contact us button.
- 7:18And then, ladies, gentlemen, I would like them
- 7:20to request us to be at their place
- 7:23so that they can host us so we
- 7:25can do a live show there and we
- 7:27can do an author talk, an author Q
- 7:29&A and author signing.
- 7:31So, again, give my friends at 787 Coffee
- 7:34a try and let me know.
- 7:38So number seven, getting back here to our
- 7:40list, identity is important, but we need to
- 7:44identify what interrupted your momentum so you can
- 7:46get back on track.
- 7:48Was it poor scheduling?
- 7:49Was it exhaustion?
- 7:49Was it unexpected responsibilities?
- 7:51Too many commitments?
- 7:52Understanding the cause helps prevent the same interruption
- 7:55from happening repeatedly day in and day out.
- 7:57Number eight, guys, learn from the interruption instead
- 8:01of merely regretting it.
- 8:03Regret looks backwards, doesn't it?
- 8:05Learning helps you move forward.
- 8:07Ask what the experience revealed about your priorities,
- 8:10routines or limitations.
- 8:12Number nine, modify the system that failed you.
- 8:14If your old routines were unrealistic and unreliable,
- 8:20don't rebuild the exact same problem.
- 8:22Improve your schedule, simplify your progress and make
- 8:26sure that your process is in line so
- 8:29you can establish better boundaries.
- 8:31Number 10, remove one barrier before you restart
- 8:36the process again.
- 8:37Maybe your workspace needs reorganizing.
- 8:40Maybe you need to change where your workspace
- 8:42is, right?
- 8:43Maybe unnecessary commitments are consuming your attention.
- 8:46Remove one obstacle and make action easier.
- 8:50OK, I think that's an important one.
- 8:52Number 11, make the return easier than the
- 8:55original beginning.
- 8:57You already have experience.
- 8:58OK, so just go ahead and use it.
- 9:00Revisit what worked before.
- 9:02Don't create unnecessary complexity when a familiar or
- 9:05effective process can actually help you restart.
- 9:07Don't be scared of that.
- 9:09Number 12, don't demand your previous pace immediately.
- 9:13If you were working at full speed before
- 9:15an interruption, expecting that same intensity on your
- 9:19first day back can create a lot of
- 9:21frustration and confusion.
- 9:23So rebuild gradually.
- 9:26OK, number 13, guys, rebuild your rhythm before
- 9:30the intensity.
- 9:32You know, when you're learning a sport, OK,
- 9:35and maybe when you've never played before, you've
- 9:38got to get your rhythm into things, right?
- 9:40How you throw the ball, how you swing
- 9:43the bat.
- 9:44One person told me a long time ago,
- 9:46regardless of what it is, sports or anything
- 9:48you're doing, academics, you have to get the
- 9:52rhythm down first.
- 9:53Then you could speed up.
- 9:54Right.
- 9:55That happens in music.
- 9:56That happens in academics.
- 9:58Although rhythm is different.
- 10:00Right.
- 10:01It's more of a like learning some background
- 10:04information.
- 10:05In sports, it's more like getting used to
- 10:07a certain slower momentum and then you can
- 10:09speed it up.
- 10:10Right.
- 10:11So that's important to understand.
- 10:14OK, so consistency matters more than an impressive
- 10:17first day.
- 10:18Establish a manual team that you can repeat
- 10:20speed increase once the rhythm becomes dependable.
- 10:23Don't try to take the engine up to
- 10:26like, you know, thousand revolutions per minute when
- 10:29you haven't first brought it up slowly.
- 10:31Engines always like to come up slowly.
- 10:32Right.
- 10:33Their warm up process.
- 10:34Number 14, one productive hour can result in
- 10:40basically restarting a stalled week.
- 10:44Think about that for just a moment.
- 10:46One focused hour can help you organize your
- 10:49priorities, complete a meaningful task and restore the
- 10:53feeling that you're moving again.
- 10:55Yeah.
- 10:5615, one good day can change the direction
- 11:00of a difficult month.
- 11:01A difficult month doesn't have to finish the
- 11:04way it began.
- 11:05One positive day can help you regain clarity
- 11:07and create a better direction for actually tomorrow.
- 11:1216, please stop waiting for Monday.
- 11:16Now, today's Thursday, but stop waiting for Monday
- 11:18or if it's Monday, don't wait for the
- 11:20next Monday.
- 11:21How many times have you said to yourself,
- 11:23I'll start again next Monday, I'll start again
- 11:26next month, I'll start again next quarter, I'll
- 11:28start again the first of the year.
- 11:31Why?
- 11:32If you can take one useful action today,
- 11:34there's no reason to procrastinate and stall to
- 11:39wait for a calendar like that just seems
- 11:41like ridiculous.
- 11:4317, stop waiting for a new month.
- 11:46Right.
- 11:46Similar to what I'm saying to you, isn't
- 11:48it?
- 11:48So a new month might feel like a
- 11:51fresh beginning, even a new year.
- 11:52But the date itself doesn't create progress, creates
- 11:56an illusion.
- 11:57Your decisions and actions do.
- 11:59So why don't you actually get off your
- 12:02back side, actually do something, get off the
- 12:05couch and do something.
- 12:0618, stop waiting for a symbolic fresh start.
- 12:14I think that's a real important one.
- 12:17You don't need a birthday, a holiday, a
- 12:20new year or some dramatic milestone.
- 12:23Those occasions can be meaningful, but they aren't
- 12:26requirements for change.
- 12:27So why don't we accept that, acknowledge it?
- 12:30Because if we do, we'll be able to
- 12:32move forward in a lot better way.
- 12:34So I think that's important for a lot
- 12:36of us here to actually understand.
- 12:40So 19, the next moment can become your
- 12:43reset.
- 12:44Maybe it's right after the show.
- 12:46Maybe it's later today.
- 12:47Maybe it's after lunch.
- 12:48Maybe it's after dinner, after breakfast tomorrow, whatever.
- 12:50You can choose to restart without waiting for
- 12:53a circumstance, right?
- 12:55Maybe it's after your class.
- 12:56Maybe it's after you get home from work,
- 12:58right?
- 12:58Maybe it's after your exercise, right?
- 13:01Number 20, reconnect with what still matters in
- 13:04your life.
- 13:05Sometimes losing momentum gives you an opportunity to
- 13:08reconsider your priorities.
- 13:10Which goals still reflect the person you want
- 13:13to become?
- 13:14Focus your energy there, guys.
- 13:16That's the key.
- 13:17Number 21, drop goals that no longer deserve
- 13:21your energy.
- 13:21I think a lot of people, you know,
- 13:23they keep goals.
- 13:24They keep files on their computer that they
- 13:25no longer need.
- 13:26Get rid of them.
- 13:27You know, when you have things consuming space,
- 13:30it's going to take away space, take away
- 13:32resources.
- 13:33Same thing with us.
- 13:33When we have things on our plate, in
- 13:36our mind, it takes away our resources to
- 13:38allow us to do something we want to
- 13:40do.
- 13:40Not every old commitment needs to continue.
- 13:42Some goals become outdated.
- 13:45Others stop serving your priorities.
- 13:47Releasing them can create room for meaningful progress.
- 13:5122, renew commitments that still matter.
- 13:57Intentional ones.
- 13:59Once you've identified what's important, make a fresh
- 14:02decision to pursue it.
- 14:04Don't rely on old promise alone.
- 14:06Choose that commitment again today.
- 14:0923, give yourself a clear next step.
- 14:14So a lot of people have vague intentions.
- 14:16They create hesitation.
- 14:18Instead of saying, I need to get organized,
- 14:20identify one specific action.
- 14:22Clarity makes restarting easier.
- 14:2524, make your first comeback when measurable.
- 14:30Complete one page.
- 14:31Finish one tasks.
- 14:33Spend 20 focused minutes.
- 14:35Give yourself evidence that you've returned to action.
- 14:39Yeah.
- 14:40But you don't have to make it public
- 14:41to the world.
- 14:42You can just do it.
- 14:44Do it quietly.
- 14:4625, protect your restart from unnecessary distractions.
- 14:51Your first steps back can be fragile.
- 14:55Set aside focused time, reduce interruptions where possible.
- 14:59Give your renewed commitment enough attention to develop.
- 15:05I think that's something a lot of people
- 15:06miss because they think that if they keep
- 15:10pushing, keep pushing, keep pushing, even though it's
- 15:13not right, they just keep pushing at it
- 15:14and they don't really look at it, right?
- 15:17You ever done a puzzle before and you
- 15:19like just kind of push the pieces, but
- 15:20you don't really look, wait a minute, wait,
- 15:21wait, I got to look at how these
- 15:22pieces align, don't just try to connect things
- 15:24like really become in the moment to what
- 15:27you're building.
- 15:3026, expect momentum to feel awkward at first.
- 15:33It's going to, right?
- 15:35Remember the first time you walked or the
- 15:36first time you rode a bike, it felt
- 15:38like you were going to fall.
- 15:39I remember the first time I rode a
- 15:41bike training wheels, that wasn't so hard.
- 15:45But once we took the training walls off,
- 15:47then I fell a few times.
- 15:50First time, you know, um, a bloody knee.
- 15:55Second time, a knee, not quite bloody, but
- 16:00the scab was almost broken.
- 16:02Third time, a little scrape and the fourth
- 16:05time, a minor escape.
- 16:06But each time I did it, I kept
- 16:09coming back.
- 16:10I might need a little break.
- 16:12I might need the sandwich.
- 16:13I needed to eat a drink, but I
- 16:14kept coming back.
- 16:19So returning to a routine can feel uncomfortable.
- 16:22Do it anyway.
- 16:24You got to renew things you forgotten.
- 16:26That's normal.
- 16:27That's what you got to do.
- 16:28You got to keep practicing.
- 16:29I'm never going to tell you that success
- 16:31is easy.
- 16:3227 guys.
- 16:34Consistency will make movement feel natural again.
- 16:38Repeated actions, reduce resistance.
- 16:42What feels difficult during your first few attempts
- 16:44can become familiar as you build your routine.
- 16:5028 you've restarted before and you can restart
- 16:53again and again.
- 16:54And again, it's this perception of your mind
- 16:57that's keeping you from starting.
- 17:00That's really what it's coming down to.
- 17:01Think about another time.
- 17:04Life interrupted your plans.
- 17:06You found a way forward.
- 17:07Maybe you're upset.
- 17:08Maybe you're annoyed, but you got through it.
- 17:11You learned a lesson.
- 17:12You're probably not going to do that again.
- 17:15Um, you basically were able to move forward
- 17:19and that experience is evidence that you're capable
- 17:23of rebuilding and you're capable of learning.
- 17:26And when we learn, we change the way
- 17:30we do things, right?
- 17:31Einstein said before, doing the same thing over
- 17:33and over again, expecting different results.
- 17:35That's a sanity.
- 17:35So when we learn, like, wait a minute,
- 17:38maybe I shouldn't do it this way.
- 17:39Maybe I shouldn't swing as high.
- 17:42Maybe my hand should be lower on the
- 17:44back.
- 17:45Maybe I actually need to keep my head
- 17:47up so I can watch what's going on.
- 17:50I think those are important things and many
- 17:53people miss them.
- 17:55You know, um, when I think about all
- 17:56the people today, you know, walking around campus
- 17:58and if I just look around, you know,
- 18:00there's some people walking around, but I will
- 18:02tell you nine out of 10 people walking
- 18:04on campus.
- 18:06Don't walk intentionally.
- 18:07What do I mean by that?
- 18:08They're just going through the moments.
- 18:10They're not enjoying the moment they're on.
- 18:13And I think that's what separates the joy
- 18:15of living and loving life from, oh my
- 18:18gosh, it's another day.
- 18:20And I know a lot of you out
- 18:22there saying, oh, John, this is like, you
- 18:24know, I, I just go through my days
- 18:26and they fade, right?
- 18:26You're not becoming intentional about what's there.
- 18:29Are you enjoying the weather?
- 18:31Like today, the sun is out.
- 18:32It's like 60, 62 degrees here in Montclair.
- 18:34Uh, are you enjoying the scenery?
- 18:36Like right behind me is university hall.
- 18:38There's the clock building over to my right
- 18:40is actually student center.
- 18:41There's a truck right now backing up.
- 18:43You can hear that even though it's a
- 18:45little bit annoying, I'm aware of it.
- 18:47I noticed the sounds I'm under this beautiful
- 18:49red umbrella next to a diner.
- 18:51It's funny, no matter where I pick on
- 18:53campus here, there's always noise.
- 18:56There's always distractions.
- 18:58Um, that's what happens when you're on a
- 18:59live campus, but I still love shooting on
- 19:01it because it's fun, but again, you do
- 19:04get interruptions, uh, hopefully some that actually don't
- 19:07interfere with the direct show.
- 19:08So when you think about being interrupted, right,
- 19:11maybe it's somebody giving you a phone call.
- 19:14Maybe it's a brother or sister.
- 19:16Maybe it's, um, a friend, maybe it's a
- 19:19boyfriend, girlfriend.
- 19:21Um, ask you to do something.
- 19:22Maybe it's your wife, your husband, maybe something
- 19:24like that.
- 19:25But maybe it's the fact that what's coming
- 19:28up is coming up because you didn't pay
- 19:31attention to it.
- 19:32So there's two ways in life.
- 19:33We talk about being proactive and we talk
- 19:35about being reactive.
- 19:37All right.
- 19:37So what's the difference?
- 19:38Let's kind of do a refresh.
- 19:39I've talked about this a lot of times.
- 19:41So proactive, I like to use the analogy
- 19:43of, um, of, uh, basically, um, smoke detectors.
- 19:49Now the national fire safety says you should
- 19:52be changing your smoke detectors.
- 19:53Uh, batteries basically every time we set the
- 19:55clocks back, you know, twice a year.
- 19:58But now, um, you can actually use smoke
- 20:00detectors where the batteries can last five or
- 20:0210 years.
- 20:03Right.
- 20:04You still should check them.
- 20:05Right.
- 20:07But I think that's an important thing is
- 20:09that when something has to be done, like,
- 20:13oh my gosh, I didn't do it.
- 20:14Like the perfect example I can give you
- 20:15as a lot of students, they don't study.
- 20:17Now, one of the things I pride myself
- 20:18in, in being a grad student for a
- 20:20while is that I enjoy, and I love
- 20:22studying and I love learning.
- 20:24I love putting more tools into my belt,
- 20:28right?
- 20:28My mind belt.
- 20:29And so when I appreciate doing something, I
- 20:33do it more.
- 20:35Sometimes you could do things like gamify things
- 20:36to make it fun.
- 20:37And I do that with a lot of
- 20:38my studies, but when it comes time for
- 20:42the exam, like, oh, gee, I didn't study.
- 20:46You don't cram the night before.
- 20:48First of all, you might not do very
- 20:49well.
- 20:50Second, everything you crammed, I can almost guarantee
- 20:53you're probably going to forget at least 85
- 20:56or 90% of it.
- 21:00So why do people do it?
- 21:02They say they get busy.
- 21:03They say that they have no time.
- 21:06It's not that they have no time.
- 21:08It's that they waste time.
- 21:09They don't take the time to be intentional
- 21:12of life.
- 21:13You guys know, I get a lot of
- 21:14stuff done.
- 21:15Video production, going to school, um, writing articles.
- 21:20I'm intentional about what I do.
- 21:23Writing, uh, being an author, right.
- 21:25Working on my next book, which is, uh,
- 21:28um, basically about AI, what the world will
- 21:34never tell you about AI.
- 21:36What the world, the truth, the world's never
- 21:38going to tell you about AI.
- 21:39AI.
- 21:39That's probably gonna be the title of my
- 21:40book.
- 21:41But I think when we become intentional of
- 21:43even things like, you know, sitting on this
- 21:44chair, feeling the temperature against my skin, um,
- 21:48you know, being aware, noticing trucks passing, um,
- 21:51noticing people walking actually, uh, behind the camera
- 21:55in front of me, but actually behind the
- 21:56camera, we call it.
- 21:57Uh, I'm looking at the beautiful car parking,
- 21:59which I think I've showed you guys before
- 22:01the garage that I park in.
- 22:02I'm looking at some of the, the village,
- 22:04uh, apartments here.
- 22:05I'm looking at the old diner here to
- 22:07my right that is closed and just noticing
- 22:10things around, looking around.
- 22:12There's a sun coming over, which is a
- 22:13perfect backdrop for this setting.
- 22:15Uh, I see a truck coming right now.
- 22:17There's another truck coming here.
- 22:18Uh, van coming by and just being aware
- 22:21of different things, being aware of the leaves
- 22:25that are currently blowing ever so slightly, uh,
- 22:28being aware of even there's like, uh, there's,
- 22:30um, a radio communications tower here to my
- 22:33left and being aware of every single light
- 22:37on that tower.
- 22:38And there's several like there's one, let's see,
- 22:41one, two, one.
- 22:43There's two, two lights, one at a lower
- 22:45level and one, a higher level.
- 22:47Why?
- 22:47So planes don't hit it.
- 22:49And then being aware of the other little
- 22:51nuances of the tower.
- 22:52There's a little, uh, arms of the tower
- 22:53for different things like cell phone, uh, you
- 22:57know, antennas that they put up there and
- 22:58just noticing the tower.
- 23:00It's got a very bright red to it.
- 23:01Then it's got a white and noticing that
- 23:03noticing the wires, the high lines, uh, above
- 23:06us and noticing the color of the green
- 23:08grass.
- 23:09So whatever your surrounding is, you can become
- 23:12aware.
- 23:12And when you become more aware, you start
- 23:16to realize things.
- 23:16So when I talked about the fire thing,
- 23:18if you are proactive, you know, that every
- 23:22so much time, if you had a manual
- 23:24smoke detector, you had to change the battery,
- 23:26I'm going to say manual, meaning you had
- 23:27to change the battery.
- 23:28It wasn't one that lasts like five or
- 23:2910 years.
- 23:30You were proactive.
- 23:31You put it on your calendar.
- 23:33Right.
- 23:34And then when that part came up, we
- 23:35set an alert on your iPhone or your
- 23:37Android or on your Google account and say,
- 23:39Hey, it's time to change the batteries.
- 23:41Right.
- 23:41So maybe you put a note the day
- 23:43before, make sure I have the batteries.
- 23:44The next day you actually change the batteries.
- 23:46So that's kind of how it works.
- 23:48If you were reactive, you'd be like, Oh,
- 23:50and you probably say a few, uh, superlative
- 23:52four letter words that we're not going to
- 23:54use.
- 23:54I don't use, uh, those words are your
- 23:57frustrations.
- 23:58I better do this now.
- 23:59Cause the smoke detector, you know, I haven't
- 24:02changed it.
- 24:02And what's going to happen if the batteries
- 24:04are dead.
- 24:04Right.
- 24:04So you're reactive.
- 24:06So let's think of this in a fire,
- 24:07right?
- 24:08If you do the drills, you practice things
- 24:11like making sure you have the right things.
- 24:13If you have to leave, God forbid in
- 24:14the fire, uh, you planned at least two
- 24:17escape routes from your home.
- 24:18You practice them maybe once or twice a
- 24:22year.
- 24:23Um, you understand, stop, drop and roll, you
- 24:27know, to feel the door, you, you know,
- 24:28a little bit about fire, right?
- 24:30You understand that if you cannot put the
- 24:33fire out in a few seconds with your
- 24:34home, uh, fire, um, thing, and it gets
- 24:37bigger, you don't try to put it out
- 24:39anymore.
- 24:39You call nine one one and you get
- 24:41the fire department there.
- 24:42Right.
- 24:43I think a lot of people want to
- 24:44be heroes.
- 24:45There's nothing wrong with that.
- 24:45But I think life is about being collaborative
- 24:49and working with other people that that's the
- 24:51most important thing you could find ways, but
- 24:53let's be more proactive and less reactive.
- 24:57And I think we'll have a more intentional
- 24:58life.
- 24:58We'll have a life that goes a little
- 25:00slower.
- 25:0229 momentum.
- 25:03Isn't something you find.
- 25:04It's something you rebuild guys.
- 25:07This is the most important lesson for today.
- 25:10You rebuild it over time and time again,
- 25:13but I think a lot of people, um,
- 25:16you know, they, they don't necessarily, they don't
- 25:18necessarily realize that.
- 25:19And I know what you're saying to me,
- 25:21I know you're saying, John, like, you know,
- 25:22this, this doesn't make sense.
- 25:23Right.
- 25:24And I can tell you that a lot
- 25:26of times, uh, people don't quite get things
- 25:30in their life.
- 25:31Right.
- 25:32And I think the reason they don't get
- 25:33things is because of, you know, what's happening
- 25:36in their actual life.
- 25:38Uh, I think that's a, I think that's
- 25:40a big challenge for a lot of people.
- 25:42They don't get what's happening in their own
- 25:44life.
- 25:45So, you know, when we think about being
- 25:47proactive, it's not just because you have to,
- 25:49you should do it because you want to
- 25:52pay, you should do it because you want
- 25:53to, again, not because you have to.
- 25:57And again, I know you're probably saying I
- 25:59got enough on my mind.
- 26:00Right.
- 26:01Um, you know, you know, what's going on
- 26:04in your life.
- 26:04Right.
- 26:06And that's important.
- 26:07As I said, the most important thing today
- 26:09is momentum doesn't magically appear because you wait
- 26:12long enough.
- 26:13It's never going to happen like that.
- 26:14Right.
- 26:15It develops when you take action, you don't
- 26:17have to take big actions.
- 26:18You've got to take consistent, small actions every
- 26:20day.
- 26:20Then repeat that action.
- 26:22Then build upon what you accomplished.
- 26:24You don't need to recover every lost day.
- 26:27You don't need to become the person you
- 26:29were before the interruption.
- 26:31You need to decide right here and now
- 26:34who you're becoming.
- 26:35And here's my challenge for all of you.
- 26:38Identify one important goal.
- 26:40You've allowed to just sit unfinished.
- 26:44Ask yourself three questions.
- 26:46What interrupted my progress?
- 26:48What can I change to make restarting easier
- 26:51right now?
- 26:52And what is one useful action I could
- 26:54take today?
- 26:55Then take the action.
- 26:57Not next Monday, not next month, actually today.
- 27:01Remember this, ladies, gentlemen, our weekly topic is
- 27:04momentum changes everything.
- 27:07We've learned that starting creates energy.
- 27:09Hesitation costs opportunities.
- 27:12Small wins build confidence and progress doesn't require
- 27:15perfect conditions.
- 27:16Yesterday, we explored why continuing matters, even when
- 27:20results seem invisible.
- 27:22Today, we've discovered something equally powerful.
- 27:25Your progress isn't erased.
- 27:27Your future isn't canceled.
- 27:29And your next meaningful action.
- 27:33It's still available.
- 27:34You can take it right now.
- 27:36Ladies and gentlemen, I am John C.
- 27:38Morley, serial entrepreneur.
- 27:40This has been another powerful episode of Inspirations
- 27:42for Your Life.
- 27:43And I thank you from the bottom of
- 27:44my heart for choosing to join me.
- 27:46And I ask you, please, to keep learning,
- 27:49to keep improving, OK, to.
- 27:54Keep moving forward.
- 27:57I remember this.
- 27:58You don't have to find your momentum today.
- 28:02It's something you will gain through the process.
