  Bible Stories for Children. Last time, we heard

  about the special promise God made to King David.

  A promise that showed God's faithfulness and

  love for his people. Today, we'll hear a quieter

  story, but one that teaches us something very

  important. We'll see how King David chose kindness
• 0:28
  for someone most people had forgotten. Someone

  who felt afraid and alone. Let's listen carefully

  to what happened. By now, David was king over

  Israel. He lived in a palace and led the people
• 0:57
  with care. One day, David began thinking about
• 1:02
  his old friend Jonathan, who had been King Saul's
• 1:06
  son. David remembered the promises he had made
• 1:10
  to Jonathan long ago. Promises of friendship
• 1:13
  and kindness. David wondered if anyone from Jonathan's
• 1:19
  family was still alive, someone he could care
• 1:22
  for. David asked his helpers if they knew of
• 1:26
  anyone from Saul's family who remained. They
• 1:29
  told David about a man named Mephibosheth. Mephibosheth
• 1:35
  was Jonathan's son. When he was very young, something
• 1:39
  sad had happened. While escaping danger, he had
• 1:44
  fallen and been hurt, and he could no longer
• 1:47
  walk properly. He lived far away and did not
• 1:51
  think anyone remembered him. When Mephibosheth
• 1:55
  was told that King David wanted to see him, he
• 1:59
  felt afraid. In those days, new kings often punished
• 2:04
  the families of former kings. Mephibosheth likely
• 2:08
  expected bad news. But David surprised him. David
• 2:14
  welcomed Mephibosheth kindly. He explained that
• 2:18
  he wanted to show kindness because of his friendship
• 2:21
  with Jonathan. David told him that he would always
• 2:25
  be cared for and that he would be welcome at
• 2:28
  the king's table, just like one of the king's
• 2:31
  own sons. Mephibosheth was amazed. Someone who
• 2:37
  felt forgotten was now remembered. Someone who
• 2:41
  expected fear was shown kindness. And David kept
• 2:45
  his promise. This story reminds us that kindness
• 2:56
  can change everything. David didn't have to help
• 3:00
  Mephibosheth. He was king. No one would have
• 3:04
  blamed him for moving on. But David chose mercy
• 3:09
  instead of fear and love instead of power. Let's

  think together. Have you ever felt left out or

  forgotten? Can you think of someone who might

  need kindness today? How does it feel when someone

  chooses to be kind to you? God loves showing

  kindness and he invites us to do the same. Even

  when people feel small, forgotten, or afraid,

  God sees them. And sometimes he uses others to
• 3:56
  show his love in gentle and surprising ways.

  David's kindness reminds us that God's love is

  not loud or proud. It is faithful, generous,
