- 2:49Good morning, how are you sir? Good morning, Dave? How
- 2:51are you going? Find me? Also have Todd file with us this morning.
- 2:53Todd, Good morning, morning Dave. And via the Bigley Piggly Wiggly
- 2:58Hotline all the way from the state of Idaho. We have Susannah Bar with
- 3:04us. Susannah, good morning, Welcome to the show, Good morning,
- 3:07thanks for having me. Wow. I mean this may be, guys,
- 3:10the first time I've ever had anyone from Idaho on the show. Possibly it's
- 3:15groundbreaking, the first time we've ever had and Susannah is out in Idaho right
- 3:19now saying, well, this is the first time I've ever been on a
- 3:21West Virginia radio talk show. Is that right? All right? Well part
- 3:25of Idaho? Are you in if you don't mind my asking, I'm in
- 3:29Boise, Okay. I was going to say, because if it's not Boise
- 3:30or Pokate, what is it. Pokatellico That's what we have here, Yeahkatella.
- 3:38Yeah, because that's where Marshall played years ago in the ONEAA national championship
- 3:44game. So it's only two cities I know, an Idahoe. But anyway,
- 3:46we talk a little pick a ball and Susannah, I want to get
- 3:47to you here in just a couple of moments, Johnny. The reason we
- 3:51have all these folks here is to talk about this big tournament that you've got
- 3:54going on coming up in I guess next month. H give me all the
- 3:59particulars. July eleventh through July fourteenth at Nitro, it's the Metro nine one
- 4:03one Pickleball Tournament, just reinforce what we're doing. All the funds we make
- 4:08off this go to our great nine to one one employees, and for example,
- 4:13if they do CPR on a loved one and save a life, we
- 4:15like to give them a gift card to reward them for the job they do.
- 4:17We can't pay them what they're worth, and this is the way to
- 4:20reward our employees. So it's a very important tournament for the community to take
- 4:24care of nine one one employees. And the dates again July eleventh through July
- 4:28fourteenth, Nitro, and it's at the pickleball courts there in Nitro Dice facility
- 4:31you have there as well. Now, Todd, what is your roll in
- 4:33all this good good questions? He doesn't. I'm the jack of all trades,
- 4:39I guess. So I am the tournament director for that tournament. I
- 4:44managed the behind the scenes administrative work, but I also help promote, help
- 4:49Johnny with the promotions, and coincidentally I had followed I followed pickleball. I'm
- 4:58an addict. If you want to say that, but I follow a lot
- 5:01of the different pros and watch a lot of it, and Susannah Barr was
- 5:06one of the pros that I followed and about it's probably been four or five
- 5:12months ago. I was traveling through the Atlanta airport and I saw this young
- 5:18woman with a Selkirk backpack on her back, and I thought, hmm,
- 5:21there's a fellow pick a ball player. And as she turned around, I
- 5:26thought, oh, no, this can't be. This is Susannah bar right
- 5:30right. Immediately I'm nervous because she's a pro, and you know, it
- 5:34just kind of worked out that we were next to each other on the Atlanta
- 5:39plane train. If anybody's gone through Atlanta, they know what the plane train
- 5:42is. And I said, hey, follow you love watching you play,
- 5:46and it's kind of taken off from there, you know. I reached out
- 5:51to her and we asked if she'd like to come to our tournament and play,
- 5:57and initially she had some plans, but things changed, and here we
- 6:01are today with a top ranked professional pickleball player coming to Charleston. And for
- 6:09those that don't know, and I'll do a little bit of background on what
- 6:12currently is your distinction Susannah, you are the of the top ranked number.
- 6:17I'll let you tell me because so I don't mess it up. Good,
- 6:20You're fine. Yeah, I'm the number one mixed female player on the app
- 6:26Tour and then I'm number three or four in women's doubles. Well, and
- 6:31do you give you an idea of how big this would be? And I
- 6:33was trying to because I'm a sports guy, you know, and I'm trying
- 6:35to put it into sports analogy. This would be if you follow Major League
- 6:41baseball, this is the equivalent to bringing modern day. This is the equivalent
- 6:44to bringing maybe Aaron Judge here. Absolutely, I mean this would be the
- 6:47equivalent to back in the day bringing Michael Jordan here. I mean for a
- 6:50basketball tournament. It's excited. And since she's agreed to play with the tournament,
- 6:55we're getting people from all over the country. We've got six states,
- 6:58people from six states coming in top you know, good players from the States
- 7:00just to be able to play with Suzanna. It's excited. Well, Susannah,
- 7:03how did you get into this? And what is it about pickleball that
- 7:05appealed to you? I actually got into pickleball just as a hobby. I
- 7:12was kind of bored and I was homeschooling my son and I had played tennis,
- 7:15and so I was like, we need something we can do together.
- 7:19So I found pickleball at the local YMCA here in Boise, and from there
- 7:24it just took off. And now I'm a full time traveling pro, a
- 7:28professional coach, and I'm actually the owner of a eighteen indoor court club here
- 7:33in Boise. So I am all in pickleball. And the great thing about
- 7:38it is it's for everyone. It's so much fun, it's you know,
- 7:42a healthy activity, and just really honestly, it's the great community. Like
- 7:46Todd was saying, you see people at the airport and you know they're comfortable
- 7:50enough to come up and talk to you and make connections all over and people
- 7:56of all ages get to play together. And you'll never hear more people laugh
- 8:00then you do on a pickleball court. That means they're having fun or they're
- 8:03making fun of people like me. That's what that means. But Dave Islands
- 8:05Show and five Eddy Live is brought to you apart by fresh Air. They'll
- 8:07change your heating and colding you to air filters for your home, your retail
- 8:11or industrial business your restaurant or church and they can custom build filters for you.
- 8:15Twenty four hour emergency services available. Visit fresh Air Filters dot us are
- 8:18called three zero four four four zero one one zero four for fresh air,
- 8:22because everyone deserves fresh air. Talk about how, Susannah, how the pros
- 8:28work in the world of pickleball. We know how Major League Baseball in the
- 8:31NBA what not work. How does it work in pickleball? Yeah, I
- 8:35mean so professional pickleball players you kind of have two different kind at this stage.
- 8:39You have the ones that are full time. Typically they're sponsored players,
- 8:46you know, by some companies, typically a Pandel company, and they travel
- 8:50the world playing football tournaments and make their living that way. And then you
- 8:54do still have a lot of pro pickleball players who are working as well,
- 9:00because there is a new sport and so a lot of them have regular jobs
- 9:05and then they play pro pickaball on the weekends. So you have quite a
- 9:09variety still just as the sport is growing. But you know, we're out
- 9:15here competing week after week, trying to win the elusive medals and growing our
- 9:22brands and growing the sport as well. How many how much of this how
- 9:28much time does this take out of your schedule, Susannah, because as you
- 9:31said, you're a pro with this. Is this pretty much what you're doing
- 9:33full time? Now? Yeah? I mean I'm playing full time, so
- 9:37you know, I practice, you know, almost every day, just like
- 9:41any other professional athlete, going to the gym, hitting the courts, working
- 9:46with my coaches. And then on top of that, I coach as well,
- 9:50and so I spend you know, it's it's probably sixty forty when we
- 9:56take a percentage. But I'm traveling all the two to three weekends, two
- 10:03weeks out of the month to play tournaments and to coach at different places around
- 10:07the country. And you're also and I was reading your bio, you're also
- 10:09a veteran too, So I want to say thank you for your service.
- 10:13Oh well, thank you. Yeah, I served after September eleventh. Okay,
- 10:20Well, that's awesome. And that's that's as important as pickleball. Let's
- 10:22to talk about today's that's that's more important. It actually is, Johnny.
- 10:26Let's talk about the event and the logistics of set event coming up in July.
- 10:33How's everything going to work. You're still looking for players, still looking
- 10:35for sponsors, still looking for players, still looking for sponsors. The great
- 10:39thing about Susannah once again, the name of this tournament is serving for safety.
- 10:43It's for police vims. You know. It helps bring up how important
- 10:48it is. This tournament's July eleventh and July fourteenth. If you look at
- 10:52the Metro nine to one one Facebook page, there's a link there to hit
- 10:56and you can go and sign up as a player. And also we're always
- 10:58looking for sponsors of course. And uh, and Susanne, you are going
- 11:03to be offering lessons to people, there is that, right? Yes,
- 11:07yeah, I'll be there with Dominict Catialano. He's a professional commentator so you
- 11:11see and hear him on ESPN and Fox Sports and different things, so he'll
- 11:16be there as well. And the two of us will be offering clinics to
- 11:20UH players of all different levels. Awesome, awesome, Uh, and UH
- 11:26you've got information available, as you said one. I know it's all over
- 11:28your social media and also on the on websites as well, Right, Johnny,
- 11:31that's correct, And and I want to say too, Sure Susanna is
- 11:35coming and the pros will be there, but this is this event is for
- 11:39all skills in all ages. Everything's categorized by age and skill, So we
- 11:43want the pros, but we also want it's a local thing for for new
- 11:46players and intermed intermediate players also, Tom, I want to ask you,
- 11:50how did you get involved in all this? As far as as uh as
- 11:54as a player? I mean what uh I know, I've talked to Johnny
- 11:58several times about his background. But what is it that appealed to you about
- 12:01this and how did you get involved in That's a good question. So I've
- 12:05always been somewhat active athletic, and some friends of mine this is going back
- 12:13probably four years ago, asked me to try it. I'd heard about it
- 12:16and wanted to try it, but it wasn't as popular in this area four
- 12:22years ago. So I started playing and a good friend of mine, his
- 12:26name's Rick Crotty. The first summer I started playing, he took me to
- 12:31Coonskin Park and he literally beat the crap out of me for a year.
- 12:37Right now, keep in mind Rick is an older gentleman. That's one of
- 12:43the great things about this sport is age kind of is not a barrier.
- 12:48But for that whole summer, and I just kept asking for more. Every
- 12:52time he'd beat me, I'd come back and then we'd do it again.
- 12:54We'd do it again and do it again. And you know, I owe
- 12:58a lot to those friends who got me started. Initially, I just started
- 13:03to grow because there wasn't any kind of organized event. There were six of
- 13:09us that got together under the canopy at South Charleston one afternoon and we said,
- 13:15let's make this a club. And that was three years ago. Now
- 13:20we have one hundred and eighty people in our club and five hundred and eighty
- 13:24people in our Facebook page. Wow in three years, so this thing and
- 13:28you mentioned how this twenty twenty this wasn't quite as big a deal. It's
- 13:33just grown so much in this area, and I guess West Virginia is kind
- 13:37of catching up with the rest of the country. Sure in this thing,
- 13:41it's going to be a fantastic event. And I'll have you guys on between
- 13:45now and then. If a business is listening right now and they want to
- 13:48get involved in sponsorship, John, we'll leave that up to you. How
- 13:52can they get in touch with you? Well, once again, go to
- 13:54the Metro nine one one Facebook page. Of course, you know we have
- 13:56all of our emergency things there. But Wan, we'll pend on top you'll
- 13:58see our turn go there. Contact us through the Facebook page and we'll be
- 14:01glad to give you a call. And Susannah, when you are in town
- 14:07for the term, but I want to make sure John brings you in the
- 14:07studio here because I want to good a chance to meet you. God,
- 14:11that'd be great. Have you Have you been to West Virginia before, Susannah.
- 14:16I think I've driven through it, but I've never actually got well,
- 14:20we're going to actually make his stop yet, You're actually going to have to
- 14:22stop it. Take in some of these wonderful things here, Susannah. I
- 14:26appreciate you. We'll be talking to you next month. Thanks a lot.
- 14:30Thank you. That's Susannah bar John Todd. I appreciate you guys being here
- 14:33today. Thanks a lot, and we'll have you on before the big event
- 14:35again. Give us the dates July eleventh through July fourteenth, night Troe pick
- 14:41a ball court. All right, and again this is pretty big stuff having
- 14:43Susannah come in here. This is this is the modern day. Whatever sports
- 14:48analogy you want you want to use for the best she is. She's the
- 14:50best out there right now, at least one of them. And she's coming

- 18:41You want to come in here and hang out? I mean no, just
- 18:42tell her to say, I mean, look, this guy has done it
- 18:44for thirty six years. How hard could it be? He still looks fine.
- 18:47Yeah, you look like a little ray of sunshine. She did.
- 18:49She's very cute obviously takes after her mine does. Indeed. So uh,
- 18:55congratulations and a wind dude, Thank you, my friend. I can't tell
- 18:56you how much I appreciate it. And uh, to everybody out there that
- 19:00got out and voted and all of our supporters all over West Virginia, I'm
- 19:03just truly humbled and thankful for their support. It was a hard fought,
- 19:10at sometimes nastier campaign with your opponent, Mike Stewart. Really, you know,
- 19:15took some shots, but you chose to stay mostly above the frame mostly.
- 19:19Well okay, all, yeah, yeah, I was, you know,
- 19:22and I think you know everyone has their style, right, I mean,
- 19:26you watch the NBA, or you watch Major League Baseball, or you
- 19:30watch the World Cup. You know, every team has their way of playing.
- 19:33And in my preferred method of politics is to let voters know who I
- 19:40am, what I've done, what my accomplishments are, and what my vision
- 19:42is for West Virginia and allow them to contrast that to whatever my opponent is
- 19:48saying about how they're going to handle the office. And so We were very
- 19:52very proud of the campaign that we ran. We were incredibly successful with fundraising,
- 19:56We had fifty five county chairs, and we were really really successful in
- 20:02election night, and I think in large part because people were really looking for
- 20:07a campaign of that kind, so that was gonna be My next question is
- 20:11why do you think that your message resonated so much with Republican voters. Was
- 20:15it your vision for the office that you're seeking, was it what you've done
- 20:19in the state Auditor's office? Combination of all Yeah, I think it's kind
- 20:23of a combination of all of those things. But I think more than anything,
- 20:30West Virginia is a place to be loved. And when you tell people
- 20:36how you're going to make the place that they have intentionally decided to live better
- 20:40for themselves, better for their children, better for them to grow older in,
- 20:45and hopefully less expensive and more free, people will flock to that.
- 20:53And I'm very, very hopeful that we are really at the very beginning of
- 20:59a true renaissance for West Virginia where we're going to see growth like we haven't
- 21:03seen before, and the opportunities that have been dreamed of for years for all
- 21:07mountaineers are going to start to be realized by a much larger portion of our

- 21:45I think I think you and your opponent this past race, State Senator
- 21:48Mike Stewart, and even the folks of the Democrats, I think that they
- 21:51would agree those are some pretty big shoes to phil. Yeah. Patrick has
- 21:56been an intensely successful attorney general for a long time, and it's hard to
- 22:00find people who have been that successful for that long and so it's both a
- 22:07blessing and a curse in some ways. Right, the blessing is is that
- 22:11I'm inheriting an office that runs very well, and it's full of a ton
- 22:15of really talented, excellent public servants. And like you said earlier, the
- 22:21hard part about that is when you are filling big shoes, how do you
- 22:26put your spin on an office that's already so successful? How do I You
- 22:30know, Patrick and I are great friends, and he's going to be a
- 22:32phenomenal governor. But you know, everybody's got their own style, and so
- 22:36how do you how do you take your vision and your leadership style and apply
- 22:41it to an office that's already so successful? And I couldn't be more excited
- 22:45for the opportunity. And uh and I'm ready for the challenge. And now
- 22:49you move on to the general yep to face Teresa Torrisseeva pretty pretty well known
- 22:56name. I mean as far as the different things that that she's done.
- 23:00Tis I pay race for us. Well, you know, West Virginia has
- 23:03changed to pretty significantly read in recent years. And as people that know me
- 23:08know, my family has been involved both in the front lines and the periphery
- 23:14of Republican politics for a long time, and so I've seen and I've been
- 23:18in the minority, and I have seen what it takes to run a race
- 23:22when you are on the other side of sort of the political wins. And
- 23:27so I am very, very cognizant of the fact that there's two ways to
- 23:30run in a campaign, and that's scared and unopposed. And so we are
- 23:34going to We're going to run a robust campaign against an honorable person who likely
- 23:41will be doing the same thing. And so we're going to take our message
- 23:45to all fifty five counties, just like we did in the primary, just
- 23:48like I did both elections for state Auditor, and we're going to tell the
- 23:52people of West Virginia how we are going to be the top lawyer on a
- 23:59team of people who were ready to change West Virginia forever. Are you open
- 24:02to having a debate with her, because I know you did in a primary
- 24:04with Senator Sewe Are you open having a debate, I'd say probably yes.
- 24:07We haven't been asked to have any debates yet, but I'm certain that over
- 24:11the next few months those things will start to get scheduled. Someone sent a
- 24:15text to the show and ask and this is a very good question for any
- 24:18Canada not just you. How do you starve the interest to those who didn't
- 24:21maybe didn't support you. Yeah, well, it doesn't really matter after the
- 24:25election. At the end of the day, I am West Virginia's lawyer.
- 24:29I'm trying to be West Virginia's lawyer, the lawyer for everyone. And just
- 24:33because somebody didn't vote for you, doesn't mean they're not your constituent. And
- 24:37so it would. I don't believe I've ever asked anybody if they voted for
- 24:41me or not, and so they would have to they would have to volunteer
- 24:45that to me in a conversation, which probably wouldn't be the best way to
- 24:51start a conversation. But you know, I don't really care. You know,
- 24:55at the end of the day, after an election, it's time to
- 25:00to move West Virginia forward, not West Virginia for those who voted for you
- 25:04forward. You talked about some of the some of the positives of West Virginia
- 25:10and we're poised for growth and so on and so forth. What are some
- 25:14of the things that whomever the next Attorney general is is going to be facing
- 25:18in court? Because let's face it, I mean, you know, in
- 25:21the current Attorney General, Patrick Morrise. He spent a whole lot of time
- 25:23there on various from opioids on down. What is what's on on the to
- 25:29do list or the task list for the next Attorney General, whomever it is.
- 25:32Well, the first question that we have to ask is who's going to
- 25:34be the president, And we're obviously very hopeful that it's going to be Donald
- 25:37Trump. And if it's him, your role changes very, very significantly.
- 25:41A Trump administration would be significantly more positive towards West Virginia's economy. We know
- 25:48that President Trump supports fracking and mining and the underlying economic drivers of Westfrictinian.
- 26:00We know that President Biden doesn't have the same view of how West Virginians should
- 26:04be or how our state should be driving its revenue. So if Trump is
- 26:07to win, what we're going to be doing is working with West Virginia leaders
- 26:12to make sure we are undoing a lot of the harmful things that have been
- 26:17done to West Virginia over the last few years. But if Biden wins,
- 26:22it's a continuation of standing up for who we are, what our values are,
- 26:26and what we do as West Virginians to drive our economy and I think
- 26:32what's really interesting and the reason why I'm so hopeful about West Virginia's future,
- 26:37is that there's young families that live all over this country in nameless, faceless
- 26:42subdivisions with gates in Dallas and d C. And Raleigh and Charlotte and Baltimore
- 26:48and you name the cities who are saying, you know, I think I
- 26:51want to raise my kids in a little bit of a different place. And
- 26:53when you go up and down the East Coast, there's really only one place
- 26:57that I know of where the family is the single most important driver of everything
- 27:03that happens in a community, and that's right here. And I think that
- 27:07we need to defend what it means to be a West Virginian because it's our
- 27:11single greatest it's our single greatest asset, is who we are, how we
- 27:15live our lives, how your lifestyle will be here. And in order to
- 27:19do that, we have to make sure that our schools are exactly how young
- 27:25families want their schools to be. We need to make sure we have school
- 27:27choice. We need to make sure our public schools are offering the things that
- 27:30make kids successful when they grow up. We also have to make sure that
- 27:34we are protecting the least vulnerable among us. Right, people don't want to
- 27:40live in a place where they see the government missing the mark on taking care
- 27:45of those who can't take care of themselves. And we've seen we have an
- 27:48enormous CPS problem, we have a myriad of health problems, particularly within some
- 27:55of our older communities, and we need to make sure that we are doing
- 27:59that much better. And lastly, we have to make sure that we're defending
- 28:03the way of life that West Virginians enjoy. That's you know, firearms and
- 28:07right to life and freedom of speech and all of the incredible ways that you
- 28:14can enjoy the beauty and the and the sort of majesty of what West Virginia
- 28:18is. And so really what you're doing is, in my opinion, defending
- 28:25defending who West Virginians are and how we live so that we can continue to
- 28:30grow while attracting people who share our our our common set of of humble and
- 28:37kind values. We and calls so Dave Allen Show on five Any Live the
- 28:41service of Big Lee Piggy Wiggy on Spring Street. Texting services provided by forth
- 28:45your Hometown Family Pharmacy Bore to let you go in the meantime, you still
- 28:48got another job I do. That's in addition to being the father of two
- 28:52wonderful daughters. Uh, you're still a state auditor. So so what's the
- 28:57summer look like for that? Yeah, what's in the office, what's on
- 29:00the to do list? Man? So all kinds of stuff. We have
- 29:03fraud cases coming out the ears. We are just grinding on a whole bunch
- 29:08of those we have. The summertime is when we do a lot of our
- 29:12trainings. So the Auditor's Office, one of our main roles is we're what's
- 29:15called the chief inspector, and so we spend a lot of time over the
- 29:18summer at trainings for county clerks, trainings for county commissioners, trainings for county
- 29:22sheriffs. We work with the assessors a lot to make sure that everybody understands
- 29:27what the current legislative makeup is and what are the new laws and how are
- 29:33they supposed to be complying with the various regulations that our office has. And
- 29:37we'll be traveling around the state continuing with our checkbook program. We have a
- 29:41checkbook launch tomorrow. We're in Jackson County tomorrow morning for them to launch their
- 29:48new checkbook site. I think that gets us up to forty nine counties who
- 29:53have decided to be on the check fifty. That's not bad. That's not
- 29:57bad, especially when it's voluntary. And I've said to you before, I'd
- 30:00rather have fifty volunteers than fifty five conscripted soldiers. And so what we've seen
- 30:06is our local governments have really they've embraced this idea of taxpayer transparency, and
- 30:11we are so proud to have made West Virginia the most transparent state in the
- 30:15country. And just yesterday I was at it's called the Hunt Keen Fellowship and
- 30:21they were doing a legislator's retreat on education reform, and we were talking about
- 30:25early childhood education, and we were talking about higher ED, and we were
- 30:27talking about how do we prepare our students for the future. And it was
- 30:30really interesting to see some of the national experts open up the checkbook and say,
- 30:37oh, my goodness, you know, you guys have such an incredible
- 30:40leg up here with the ability for all of the subject matter experts to see
- 30:44where the spending is going, to see how we're investing in our students,
- 30:47and to hopefully use that information to marry it with with student data and start
- 30:52to really change our education system in smart ways. That answers the question,
- 31:00you know, where and how should we be investing to maximize the taxpayer dollar
- 31:07as it relates to educating our children, Because there really isn't a more important
- 31:11thing. When you ask any company who's looking to invest in a place,
- 31:14the first thing they ask is is how are your schools? How are the
- 31:17children of our employees going to be taken care of? And how well are
- 31:22you preparing our workforce of the future, say douditor and now Republican nominee for
- 31:26Attorney General J. B. Mccusky day. Thank you, buddy. I'm
- 31:30a little I want to go ahead and get you out of here because I
- 31:32don't like the idea of your young daughter being subjected to radio people. Well,
- 31:36some of the radio people are nice, some of them. Mister Lawrence
- 31:38was here and he's really great, and he has one of those voices that
- 31:41kids just melt over. Right. Yeah, but you have him, you
- 31:45have her hanging up at the up in the Mountain studio or in the Beat
- 31:48studio. Probably not as long as she stays away from Happy Joe. We're

- 36:45Good morning, thanks for having me back on, Thank you for being It's
- 36:46great to be here. I want to go ahead and get this out of
- 36:49the way. Senator Joe Manchin, Yes, former Democrat Joe Manchin, now
- 36:53independent or unaffiliated with a party. Joe Manchin. Now it's been on Friday.
- 36:58Were you surprised by the switch? Uh? Yeah, I was surprised
- 37:00by the timing of it, really. I mean, it's just you know,
- 37:04it's his last you know, he's not running for re election, is
- 37:07eight months left, and the big thought that he would, you know,
- 37:09finish that term as a Democrat, the party that that he was elected.
- 37:15Did you have any kind of medication. I don't want to talk inside politics
- 37:17much. Did you have any kind of indication that was coming. I personally
- 37:21did not, But I'll just I will say, we will take him at
- 37:22his word that it's not because he's planning on running for anything. He has
- 37:27pledged his full support for Mayor Williams for governor and has has maxed out to
- 37:34him, gave him the maximum contribution for both the primary and the general election.
- 37:37And I think of the reason he supports Steve Williams the same reason why
- 37:42a lot of people support Steve Williams. When Mayor Williams became mayor of Huntingdon
- 37:47years ago, the city was bankrupt and he's really done a lot to turn
- 37:51that city around, made him a model city, a shining example of the
- 37:53rest of the country where they've become a city of solutions and and one's all
- 37:58sorts of UH national recognition in grants because of the hard work of Mayor Williams.
- 38:02So there's a lot to like there, whether you're a Democrat, whether
- 38:06you're a Republican or an independent. And he's also pledged his support to another
- 38:09mayor, Mayor Elliott, who's running for the US Senate, who's also done
- 38:14a great job up there and wheeling and is a great team. I'll say
- 38:16this about I'll say this about Huntington as somebody who lived in Huntingdon in the
- 38:20early nineteen nineties. He can you can credit Steve Williams, you can credit
- 38:23or blame whoever you want. It's a heck of a lot better th Huntington
- 38:25than what it was in nineteen ninety to nineteen ninety two when I was there.
- 38:29I can tell you that he took over a city that was bankrupt and
- 38:31turned them around financially and was able to pay first responders and get more,
- 38:37you know, improve public safety. And he did all of this. Mayor
- 38:40Williams did all of this without raising taxes. So there's a lot there for
- 38:45people to like across the political spectrum. I think that's why he has the
- 38:47support of Senator Mansion. Did you hear the interview with Tol Take Senator Mansion
- 38:52at his word that this is just about this national effort that he has to
- 38:55bring the you know, the parties together and this group that he's working on
- 39:00with his daughter, and you know what, that is an admirable effort.
- 39:02I think everybody can agree that there's too much divisionist country and we shouldn't matter
- 39:06bring both sides. Did you hear the interview with Hoppy yesterday though, with
- 39:08Senator Mansion, I mean, because it was kind of you know, he
- 39:12said I am not he and Hoppy in that playful way that they do,
- 39:15you know, back and forth. You know, Hoppy, I am not
- 39:16running. I am not running. But he also said, you know,
- 39:21I don't know what future holds, and there are no there's no just He's
- 39:24I think the exact quote was, what is what is absolute in this life?
- 39:30Well, I don't believe. I've take him for his word that he
- 39:31is not running and that people who are unhappy, and many people on your
- 39:36side of the aisle are unhappy with the choices that the Republicans have put up
- 39:40put up unhappy with the nominees such as Patrick Morrisey and but Jim Justice.
- 39:44He has a lot of issues as well that we can get into, and
- 39:46they take a look another look at our candidates. Mayor Williams is a great
- 39:51candidate for governor. He will make a great governor for the state. And
- 39:53Glenn Elliott has done wonders in the city of Wheeling two And it's also also
- 39:59you know, when he was a young man, he was an intern for
- 40:01I'm talking about Glenn Elliott. It was an intern for a senator Bird,
- 40:06So he knows how the Senate works. And also it's important he knows where
- 40:08the Senate is located. It's in Washington, d C. And he actually
- 40:12plans on going there to actually work, unlike Governor Justice, who we rarely
- 40:16see in Charleston and doesn't show up for work. You would have to admit
- 40:21those times. You would have to admit, though, Mike, that it
- 40:23is going to be and you're a guy that likes a challenge. I mean,
- 40:27it's going to be a challenge in a in a bright red state,
- 40:30regardless of how good a person Steve Williams or Glenn Elliott or whomever may be.
- 40:35It's going to be a portion. Yeah, there's no doubt in my
- 40:37mind that's going to be a challenge. But you know what, you know,
- 40:40what's worth the state's worth fighting for, and I think the state would
- 40:45be better represented with people who really share their values. People work for a
- 40:50living. They should be able to make a living wage. They should expect
- 40:52a reasonable amount of safety at the workplace. They should have great schools for
- 40:57everybody's kids, not just the wealthiest one person. They should be able to
- 41:02trust the water coming out of their tap, and that they should have access
- 41:07to reproductive healthcare, reproductive freedom like people in the state had that people in
- 41:12this country had for fifty years. Steve Williams already seems like he's overturned by
- 41:16the appointees that Trump had put on the Supreme Court. Steve Williams Mayor Williams
- 41:21already seems like he is really kind of pushing that and bringing that out to
- 41:24the forefront. That there are a lot of people that think that maybe the
- 41:29Republican legislature or Dobbs or whatever you want to say, has gone too far.
- 41:34Well, is that going to be a major part of the campaign yeah,
- 41:36and the Republican legislature here in West Virginia has gone way too far in
- 41:39a complete and total ban on abortion. And Governor Justice who first ran,
- 41:45I'll reminds you back in twenty sixteen, he ran as a pro choice Democrat.
- 41:51He signed the bill into law, have a total ban in West Virginia.
- 41:54So God forbid something happens during I mean the worst case scenario, something
- 42:00happens during a pregnancy, that that decision is no longer in the hands of
- 42:04the woman or her doctor and she now has to do a GoFundMe to leave
- 42:08the state in order to get medical attention. It's wrong. And I think
- 42:13most people, whether they consider themselves pro choice, pro life, or somewhere
- 42:16in between, agree that the all out band in West Virginia is extreme.
- 42:22It is too extreme, and it's and we need to put it on the
- 42:25ballot and let the people decide. So you're four putting it on the ballot.
- 42:30You said that before. But I just want to clarify the constitutional amendment
- 42:32to caut a fire row. I don't think more. I don't think the
- 42:37Republicans want that. Of course they don't because they would lose that. I
- 42:39really don't know. I mean if they think that they of course they don't,
- 42:43or they would have done it during the special session. They have one
- 42:45more chance in August. If we look like we're going to go into a
- 42:47special session, put it on the ballot. Let the people decide what could
- 42:51be wrong with that. If you're against it, vote no. If you're
- 42:53four restoring this freedom that has been that this country had for over fifty years,
- 42:58then you vote yes. I mean, the argument in that from the
- 43:00state Republican Party and others is going to be West Virginia. It was on
- 43:05the battle a couple of years ago. It was a completely different question.
- 43:07It involved, First of all, it involved public funding, which is an
- 43:10entirely different question. And at that point it was a hypothetical. That was
- 43:14before the overturning of Roe and before this statewide abortion band that we have in
- 43:20the States. It was a hypothetical. Now it's real. The last couple
- 43:23of weeks, Mike, the headlines have not been about politics following the election,
- 43:29which is not necessarily a bad thing, or politicians. It's been about
- 43:30the problems with CPS, with this tragedy in Boone County, and just every
- 43:36day seemingly you turn on the news, you go to our website or whatever,
- 43:38pick up the paper, and it's another story about some sort of And
- 43:43I'm not pointing fingers, Mike, but we are the only one not pointing
- 43:46fingers some sort because they break down between CPS, between state government, between
- 43:52you know, go ahead and fill in all the names you want there.
- 43:55There is something definitely and what happens in this case in Boone County Hobbies talked
- 44:00about it at length, is it's like, you know, the governor says,
- 44:02well, and I'm not damning the governor here, I'm saying the governor
- 44:05says one thing, and then CPS has a statement out, and then the
- 44:08state police comes out and it's a total breakdown, total And the real victim
- 44:13here is a dead child, a young girl who and the CPS had been
- 44:20called, looks like they had been called previously or the state trooper went directly
- 44:23to their office and reported this family already. And that's not the only case
- 44:28like that. We had the case in system Bille where there were multiple calls
- 44:30to CPS from neighbors who saw what was going on, you know, in
- 44:36that family. What can you do as a legislator, though, What can
- 44:37you Well, we're spoking of about I had some oversight, but you know,
- 44:40they were unable to pass the bill that would allow us to provide more
- 44:44oversight. And they constantly go back on this claim that CPS does that they
- 44:49don't have to report on anything. They get to hold all this stuff confidential.
- 44:53Of course, we want to protect the identities of children, of course
- 44:57we do, but we've got to especially after something like that this happened,
- 45:00we have to get to the bottom of it to prevent any horrible thing like
- 45:02this ever from happening again. And you said you don't want to point fingers,
- 45:07Well, I'm glad you're about the only one that's not pointing fingers here.
- 45:10Because the governor's administration, they're constantly he's blaming the lawyers at the department,
- 45:15he's blaming the state police, he's blaming everybody but himself. And the
- 45:20problem is when the boss doesn't show up for work, bad things happen.
- 45:23And that's been endemic of his entire administration, with the problems at CPS,
- 45:28the problems with the state police, the problems with our jails and our prisms,
- 45:31not prisons, not having enough teachers, and every aspect of state government.
- 45:37We are having just a crisis mode constantly, and it's because the boss
- 45:40doesn't show up for work and he expects to be sent to Washington, d
- 45:45C. Does anybody really expect him to go show up? His way means
- 45:52not showing up, not today. One good thing you heard all this stuff,
- 45:55you know with the Trump case about yeah, he was convicted of of,
- 46:00you know, covering up payoffs, to cover up a hush money payoff.
- 46:07One you don't have to worry about that with Jim Justic because he's never
- 46:08paid anybody off. He doesn't pay his taxes, he hasn't paid his debtors,
- 46:12He's just had his helicopter repossessed. He's only governor I know that has
- 46:15has its wages garnished. Don't worry about him paying anybody off. Nine to

- 49:02Tech says, abortion was on the ballot in twenty eighteen and the people
- 49:07banned abortion in West Virginia. It's a settled issues. Stopped bloviating, Stop
- 49:09blowing completely a different question. It mentioned public funding, which is completely different,
- 49:15totally changes the question. And like I said before, it was a
- 49:16hypothetical at that time, that was before Roe had been overturned. Put it
- 49:21on the ballot again, see what happens. Tech says, So let's going
- 49:22back to JB. McCuskey. JV's vision for West Virginia sounds great. Too
- 49:25bad as freedom vision does include legalized cannabis. What a bummer, dude.
- 49:30If Republican says the texture had actual principles, they would vote against Jim Justice.
- 49:34He's an obvious rhino who shut down the state during COVID, pushed vaccine
- 49:37requirements, MASc your kids, kept schools closed, and spends your money like
- 49:42it's his Pushkin says the texture now reaching pathetic desperation mode by trying to tie
- 49:46a Boon County girl's death to the governor instead of her mother family a CPS.
- 49:50What a pathetic attempt to smear him so that he doesn't take mansion sentence
- 49:53seats. Now, I think that you know, there was a great president
- 49:58once said the buck stops here, and that's never been the case with Jim
- 50:00Justice. And he should take responsibility for his own departments instead of always blaming
- 50:06somebody else. And of course we expect personal responsibility and the people responsible will
- 50:09be held accountable in the court of law. And you know, I can't
- 50:14comment more on that because they're going to go to court. But when you
- 50:17hear from the state troopers that they drove directly to the CPS office and reported
- 50:23it, and then you hear, well know that we didn't have the report.
- 50:25We got to get to the bottom of it, and it would be
- 50:28let's have a real investigation instead of pointing fingers, and it's always to me,
- 50:31it's just completely despicable when you have the leader, the chief executive who's
- 50:36always refuses to take the blame for anything and is quick to find a scapegoat.
- 50:40The Democrats nominees for statewide office as a sector do not stand a sliver
- 50:45of a chance of wanting to see the public office, period, no other
- 50:47way around it. They don't stand a chance. Mike, Well, I
- 50:52you know, I think that we do stand a chance because we have quality
- 50:54candidates that are actually competent at the jobs that they're running for. I mean,
- 50:59we have Mary Anne Clatter running for orders. She's an actual auditor with
- 51:02over twenty years of experience. You won't need me on the job training.
- 51:06She knows how to do the job. She's running against a career politician.
- 51:09You know, you just had jb On here. He's a good guy.
- 51:13But if I was going to go to court, I'd want Teresa Torseeva by
- 51:15my side. Yeah. The attorney general is the lawyer for the state.
- 51:20Teresa's been our lawyer for quite some time. She has fought for pensions for
- 51:23first responders, she has fought for underdogs up you know, across this state,
- 51:29and one she's representing some of the female cadets that are that are suing
- 51:32over being harassed and violated at the state Police Barricks. You're going to go
- 51:37through all the cases that Teresa has fought for and won. She's running to
- 51:42be the state's attorney. She's been the state's attorney. Give me thirty years,
- 51:45give me as we close, give me thirty seconds. On the Trump
- 51:46verdict last week, what do you think? Well, I think that a
- 51:49jury of his peers found him guilty on thirty four counts, and I think
- 51:53it's been to me. It's watching the Republican leaders in this state and around
- 51:58the country climb over each other and try to make excuses for that. Let's
- 52:00get to the real issue here and what nobody denies. He paid hush money
- 52:06to a porn star to cover up his infidelity to his wife. So it's
- 52:10a character issue. So you can say, well it was, it shouldn't
- 52:14have been a felony this or that. What's the type of what type of
- 52:16person do you want leading the country? Somebody that you can't trust at all
- 52:22and just does everything for themselves, or somebody a known commodity that you can
- 52:27trust all right my post. Can. I appreciate you being here man,
