- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Good evening, everyone.
- 0:01SPEAKER_00: Some, maybe it is afternoon, but thank you for joining us for the spaces this evening.
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: I'm Irina Namzia, and I'll be your host today.
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: And today's topic,
- 0:11SPEAKER_00: we're actually going back to the basics to speak about how
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: to expand your investment journey.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: And we are hosting HISA for our spaces this evening.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: We still have so many people who do not really fully understand how the securities markets work.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: And the idea of investing often feels like it's something reserved for
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: the wealthy people or the wealthy.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: Only those who are financially serving.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: So as we talked to HESA who have been working on changing the narrative
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: and making it possible for anyone with a smartphone or just a few shillings or
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: a few dollars on how you can naturally start spending your wealth through
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: the securities market by investing into maybe the counters at
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: the Nairobi Securities Exchange or even going to the global markets like
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: the Asian markets or the US markets.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: So we're just going to have that conversation with our panelists from HISA.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: I want to introduce our speakers today.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: I'll let them just say their names,
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: what they actually do at HISA,
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: and maybe just tell us a little bit of what their job description looks like on
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: a day at HISA before we dive into the questions.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: Get soon and come in.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: You can just introduce yourselves.
- 1:16SPEAKER_02: Thank you to everyone for making time for this space.
- 1:20SPEAKER_02: Thank you to the Mwango team and our host for this session.
- 1:24SPEAKER_02: So as you've heard,
- 1:26SPEAKER_02: my name is Gertrude and I serve as the head of research and customer engagement
- 1:32SPEAKER_02: at Hisa.
- 1:33SPEAKER_02: And maybe I can give a rundown of what Hisa is.
- 1:38SPEAKER_02: And typically Hisa is simply our platform that gives you access to the Kenyan and US markets.
- 1:46SPEAKER_02: And I am excited to have a deep dive into today's topic.
- 1:51SPEAKER_02: Omar, over to you.
- 1:53SPEAKER_03: Hi everyone.
- 1:53SPEAKER_03: Good afternoon.
- 1:54SPEAKER_03: Good evening.
- 1:55SPEAKER_03: My name is Omar Ahmed and I lead product at Hisa.
- 1:58SPEAKER_03: This means basically after our investors interact with the Kenyan and US markets
- 2:03SPEAKER_03: with,
- 2:03SPEAKER_03: we're in charge of building that and ensuring they have the best experience
- 2:07SPEAKER_03: to be able to carry out all their actions.
- 2:10SPEAKER_03: And thank you everyone once again for sharing this space.
- 2:12SPEAKER_03: Looking forward to sharing a lot of insights and this.
- 2:15SPEAKER_03: Thank you.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: Thank you, Ahmed and Gentwood for that introduction.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: And so let's go straight to their discussion.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: And we are aiming to actually equip the audience with practical knowledge
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: as we focus on what HISA actually brings to us as investors.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: Got you, Mwangi.
- 2:54SPEAKER_02: So ideally,
- 2:55SPEAKER_02: the idea of he first started a number of years ago,
- 2:59SPEAKER_02: more than five years ago,
- 3:01SPEAKER_02: whereby one of our founders was working at the exchange and he found it so difficult
- 3:08SPEAKER_02: to start investing in the Kenyan market.
- 3:11SPEAKER_02: And therefore, he wanted to make it easy for everyone else.
- 3:15SPEAKER_02: So that is the inception of his site came out as possible.
- 3:19SPEAKER_02: An experienced investor wanting to make the investing process easier for everyone else.
- 3:24SPEAKER_02: And therefore from that, HESA was born.
- 3:28SPEAKER_02: And right now we have morphed into not only giving Kenyans access to
- 3:33SPEAKER_02: the Kenyan market, but also the US market and soon enough other markets as well.
- 3:40SPEAKER_02: So ideally that is the genesis of HESA.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: We are used to calling it HISA app.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: It's so hard to leave out the word app when we're doing HISA.
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: If someone downloads the HISA app,
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: what happens,
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: let's say just the first few minutes,
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: once someone downloads their app,
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: in terms of signing up, verification, and finding an account.
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: So you can just take a look at the mechanics of how that should be handled.
- 4:04SPEAKER_03: So once the user downloads the app,
- 4:06SPEAKER_03: they're required to use their email and phone number to sign up,
- 4:10SPEAKER_03: which takes them into the GISA interface,
- 4:13SPEAKER_03: where they can see all our features at first glance.
- 4:16SPEAKER_03: But to be able to staffs reading and carrying out transactions in the app,
- 4:20SPEAKER_03: they actually require them,
- 4:22SPEAKER_03: as is required by regulations,
- 4:23SPEAKER_03: to be provided by the verification can be either their national ID
- 4:28SPEAKER_03: or their passports.
- 4:29SPEAKER_03: That's done.
- 4:30SPEAKER_03: They also collect some more details and signature.
- 4:33SPEAKER_03: As well as some other documentary pieces of information,
- 4:36SPEAKER_03: and where the chiefs have set an account and a brokerage account as well for them
- 4:40SPEAKER_03: to trade,
- 4:41SPEAKER_03: and funding their account to perform these trades,
- 4:44SPEAKER_03: can buy digital buy and pay sales.
- 4:46SPEAKER_03: And these are actually,
- 4:48SPEAKER_03: as if right out by permission,
- 4:49SPEAKER_03: they can actually buy their first spoke fast in moments, once fast in five.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: Now, once you download the app, I was just looking at the app today, actually.
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: And some of the features made confusing for someone who is maybe a beginner
- 5:03SPEAKER_00: into investing through such an app.
- 5:05SPEAKER_00: So you can just talk to others about some of the features.
- 5:07SPEAKER_00: Like I can see there's stocks, which looks like it's a familiar name and what to do with it.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: But then there's stock screener, then there's collections, IPO access, wallet settings.
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: There's a number of features under the wallet setting.
- 5:21SPEAKER_00: You can just take us through some of those features and how important they are
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: or what someone can do with some of those features.
- 5:28SPEAKER_03: Like you said,
- 5:29SPEAKER_03: stocks is pretty common,
- 5:31SPEAKER_03: and that's the primary feature that users look to use on the stock trading platform,
- 5:35SPEAKER_03: right?
- 5:36SPEAKER_03: So with stocks,
- 5:36SPEAKER_03: you look at it,
- 5:37SPEAKER_03: use stock orders on either the NSC,
- 5:41SPEAKER_03: which is the Kenyan markets, or even US markets as well.
- 5:44SPEAKER_03: We have simply results with the EFL,
- 5:47SPEAKER_03: who's also IFTTT as well,
- 5:48SPEAKER_03: is that interesting feature, but I know you have the views I've had.
- 5:50SPEAKER_03: We've been in tax and social research here, thank you to IT Okomogo, who is RPG.
- 5:55SPEAKER_03: It is actually good to be self-described.
- 5:57SPEAKER_03: IT is pretty happening across the African markets.
- 6:00SPEAKER_03: We also have some future apps enabled users.
- 6:03SPEAKER_03: You can make my parents in terms of videos or files,
- 6:07SPEAKER_03: which is like you mentioned stock screen ads.
- 6:09SPEAKER_03: I'm not stock screen ads, but it is everything.
- 6:13SPEAKER_03: Help you navigate the market.
- 6:14SPEAKER_03: You have like a third path to click phone.
- 6:17SPEAKER_03: Kiltals allow you to get certain permanent files.
- 6:20SPEAKER_03: Kiltals work hyperstock.
- 6:22SPEAKER_03: Shoots your own investing.
- 6:24SPEAKER_03: Paragraph is closer to one maximum portfolio.
- 6:27SPEAKER_03: Whilst we hope you like use the secrets to not love your stocks.
- 6:31SPEAKER_03: The loss is that.
- 6:32SPEAKER_03: One interesting feature of all that we have is something called Atlas.
- 6:36SPEAKER_03: The Atlas Atlas case is a first free AI assistant that allows you
- 6:41SPEAKER_03: and gives you You can actually use AI rights on vSaaS,
- 6:48SPEAKER_03: financial rights on a desktop plane, the app as well.
- 6:51SPEAKER_03: Everything else we do you to investment in your account,
- 6:53SPEAKER_03: share a VPN, customizing your own security as well as passwords must work.
- 6:59SPEAKER_03: For Nintendo 3D as well,
- 7:01SPEAKER_03: we also provide you a local rules and departments of the very important facet
- 7:05SPEAKER_03: of shooting.
- 7:06SPEAKER_03: Always be able to make your forms to join.
- 7:08SPEAKER_03: Things like we give you a live graph of the market.
- 7:11SPEAKER_01: Like I was saying,
- 7:12SPEAKER_01: we also have a few of the features that basically allow you
- 7:16SPEAKER_01: to make investment stations,
- 7:18SPEAKER_01: such as a live track,
- 7:20SPEAKER_01: which tracks the priorities of Kenyan and U.S.
- 7:23SPEAKER_01: charities, detailed financials as well.
- 7:26SPEAKER_01: So you can also see like the health of the companies free investing them.
- 7:29SPEAKER_01: We also have Atlas, which I mentioned earlier.
- 7:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 7:32SPEAKER_01: It allows you to make intelligence investment stations on the HISA app.
- 7:37SPEAKER_01: So yeah, these are just some of the features that we currently have on the platform.
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: I guess someone has to practically download the app and also have the experience
- 7:44SPEAKER_00: to understand more of the features.
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: Now, moving to Getsud,
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: as a head of research at Hisa,
- 7:51SPEAKER_00: I assume you actually do a lot of different markets,
- 7:55SPEAKER_00: given that Hisa also means access to offshore markets.
- 7:58SPEAKER_00: And lack of a better word,
- 7:59SPEAKER_00: they currently are growing interest or a hype of investing offshore markets.
- 8:04SPEAKER_00: And this includes the U.S.
- 8:06SPEAKER_00: markets,
- 8:06SPEAKER_00: the Indian markets,
- 8:07SPEAKER_00: New York markets, and HISA is offering people to invest also in these jurisdictions.
- 8:12SPEAKER_00: So for someone who has never invested in these offshore markets,
- 8:16SPEAKER_00: how should one decide between investing at the NEC markets and investing in
- 8:21SPEAKER_00: the offshore markets?
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: What is the thought process of this person who was to begin a test quota in
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: the offshore markets,
- 8:28SPEAKER_00: especially, and also mention how to do that using the HISA app?
- 8:32SPEAKER_02: That's a very good question.
- 8:34SPEAKER_02: And to be honest, I'd start with the investment objective rather than the exchange.
- 8:40SPEAKER_02: So ask yourself, what am I investing for?
- 8:43SPEAKER_02: What is my time horizon?
- 8:45SPEAKER_02: What level of risk am I comfortable with?
- 8:49SPEAKER_02: And what companies or sectors will I understand?
- 8:53SPEAKER_02: So the NRC gives Kenyan investors exposure to companies that they already know.
- 8:58SPEAKER_02: And thanks to the HISA app, you can get started with that and follow in their everyday lives.
- 9:04SPEAKER_02: While the US markets provide access to a much broader range of companies
- 9:10SPEAKER_02: and sectors,
- 9:11SPEAKER_02: you also need to consider the currency exposure when you invest in a US stock as
- 9:16SPEAKER_02: a Kenyan investor.
- 9:18SPEAKER_02: So when you invest in a US stock as a Kenyan investor,
- 9:22SPEAKER_02: you're not only exposed to the performance of the company, but also the performance.
- 9:28SPEAKER_02: So
- 9:31SPEAKER_02: I wouldn't say one market is automatically better than the other.
- 9:36SPEAKER_02: They give you different opportunities and risks.
- 9:39SPEAKER_02: So start with your investment objective.
- 9:42SPEAKER_02: What do I already understand?
- 9:44SPEAKER_02: For example, as I've said, you can get started in the Kenyan market.
- 9:48SPEAKER_02: As you start understanding how the US market works.
- 9:52SPEAKER_02: So what is your investment objective and what do you understand?
- 9:57SPEAKER_02: And before you start investing in anything, always try to understand what you're investing.
- 10:03SPEAKER_02: So get started with the Kenyan market because that is what you interact with on
- 10:08SPEAKER_02: a day-to-day basis.
- 10:10SPEAKER_02: And once you are comfortable with the market movement,
- 10:13SPEAKER_02: then you can get started with understanding the US market as well.
- 10:17SPEAKER_02: And thanks to the HISA app, you have access to bold markets.
- 10:21SPEAKER_00: That's a very good point to note, to stack in any seed market.
- 10:26SPEAKER_00: But let me just stick with you a bit for a minute.
- 10:29SPEAKER_00: Let's talk about fractional shares, which I think she's often.
- 10:33SPEAKER_00: So maybe just talk to us,
- 10:35SPEAKER_00: what are actually fractional shares for those
- 10:37SPEAKER_00: who may not be understanding what they earn in investing through fractional shares?
- 10:42SPEAKER_00: What's the least amount that someone can cut with investing through fractional shares?
- 10:48SPEAKER_00: And if they want to own a piece of,
- 10:49SPEAKER_00: say, Apple or Tesla, how do they go about that using fractional shares?
- 10:55SPEAKER_02: So the fractional shares comes in when you want to invest in the US market.
- 11:00SPEAKER_02: On the HESA app, you can start by only not one, but a 0.1% of a share.
- 11:07SPEAKER_02: So fractional shares are For example,
- 11:11SPEAKER_02: if a company's share price is $200 and you have $20 to invest,
- 11:14SPEAKER_02: you don't necessarily need to invest.
- 11:25SPEAKER_02: If the underlying stock increases by 10%,
- 11:27SPEAKER_02: the value of your fractional investment would also increase by that 10%
- 11:32SPEAKER_02: before considering the applicable fees and other factors.
- 11:52SPEAKER_02: So the important thing to understand is
- 11:54SPEAKER_02: that fractional ownership gives you economic exposure to a portion of that stock.
- 12:01SPEAKER_02: It doesn't mean you're buying a discount of the whole shares.
- 12:05SPEAKER_02: So that is what ideally fractional investing is.
- 12:09SPEAKER_02: You get to own a portion of one whole share of that company.
- 12:14SPEAKER_00: And what's the minimum amount you recommend someone to start reading them?
- 12:17SPEAKER_02: On the Heater app, you can get started with investing in US stock with a minimum of 1 USD.
- 12:25SPEAKER_02: So with 130 shilling,
- 12:28SPEAKER_02: you can become part owner of these companies,
- 12:30SPEAKER_02: the likes of Apple, Google, Tesla, and the like.
- 12:34SPEAKER_02: So with 1 USD, you can get started.
- 12:37SPEAKER_02: Thank you for that.
- 12:39SPEAKER_00: Now, also lets users hold both local currency and dollar wallets when they add wallet options.
- 12:45SPEAKER_00: So what's the advantage of investing in earning dollars for a Canadian user?
- 12:50SPEAKER_00: And especially, we get this question often, yes.
- 12:53SPEAKER_00: If I want to hedge against the shilling,
- 12:56SPEAKER_00: can I invest my money in dollar denominated kind of assets?
- 13:00SPEAKER_00: And isn't given that it allows Wallets to hold both currency in Kenyan and Wallets,
- 13:05SPEAKER_00: the Kenyan shillings?
- 13:06SPEAKER_00: What's the advantage of investing in dollar as a Kenyan user?
- 13:10SPEAKER_00: Ahmed, you can take that.
- 13:12SPEAKER_01: Primary advantage in holding your investments
- 13:14SPEAKER_01: in dollars basically protects your pocket in power, right?
- 13:18SPEAKER_01: Dollar being the de facto global reserve currency.
- 13:22SPEAKER_01: As we know, over time, dollar has held its value over 10 and 10,000.
- 13:26SPEAKER_01: I think that you're able to actually hold a portion of your savings in your destiny.
- 13:32SPEAKER_01: And we use that to purchase U.S. stocks, which gives you global exposure.
- 13:38SPEAKER_01: And that ensures that you are able to actually access the global markets as well
- 13:44SPEAKER_01: as get returns in USD on your investments.
- 13:48SPEAKER_01: So through HISA,
- 13:50SPEAKER_01: you're basically able to diversify things,
- 13:52SPEAKER_01: not just market risk, but currency risk as well by investing in the USD.
- 13:56SPEAKER_02: Maybe I can add something else.
- 13:59SPEAKER_02: So under HISA app,
- 14:01SPEAKER_02: In addition to having the ability to deposit in USD,
- 14:05SPEAKER_02: you also get to earn a dividend in USD.
- 14:09SPEAKER_02: And once a company issues the dividend,
- 14:13SPEAKER_02: the amount is deposited into your USD one on the Hista app.
- 14:18SPEAKER_02: So just to add on to what Omar has said.
- 14:22SPEAKER_00: Yes, Eric, here.
- 14:24SPEAKER_00: I'm just holding forth a little bit.
- 14:26SPEAKER_00: Maybe I can ask one question since I'm here.
- 14:28SPEAKER_00: A curious question that I've gotten a few times in
- 14:30SPEAKER_00: the past was there were some challenges at some point with drawers.
- 14:33SPEAKER_00: Has that been rectified?
- 14:35SPEAKER_00: Maybe Umar or Getrid can speak to some people who have had issues in
- 14:38SPEAKER_00: the past perhaps and you can respond to them.
- 14:40SPEAKER_00: And I give it back to Ryan.
- 14:42SPEAKER_01: Okay, awesome.
- 14:42SPEAKER_01: So for withdrawals, yes.
- 14:44SPEAKER_01: So we know for the longest,
- 14:45SPEAKER_01: some users have been requesting to be able to withdraw in USD,
- 14:49SPEAKER_01: which is something that we're currently introducing into the HESA app.
- 14:53SPEAKER_01: Not just funding, but also USD withdrawals.
- 14:55SPEAKER_01: Currently, we do have now a way for users to actually withdraw in USD.
- 15:02SPEAKER_01: So whatever currency they prefer to receive and payment in, we support both on HESA.
- 15:07SPEAKER_00: Thank you so much.
- 15:07SPEAKER_00: I'm back now to the technical here.
- 15:09SPEAKER_00: There's a link for downloading the HESA app on the comment sections.
- 15:13SPEAKER_00: You can just click on it and go directly to download the HESA app and get
- 15:16SPEAKER_00: the experience of what you're talking about as well.
- 15:19SPEAKER_00: You can just go through the features as we go through some of them.
- 15:23SPEAKER_00: Now, there's also a feature of MarketWatch and News down just at the app.
- 15:27SPEAKER_00: That feature,
- 15:28SPEAKER_00: how does it help beginners to make the first decisions and what kind of news appears
- 15:33SPEAKER_00: on that feature?
- 15:35SPEAKER_00: Given that we live in the world of social media
- 15:37SPEAKER_00: and there's too much information everywhere
- 15:39SPEAKER_00: and maybe tell us how this feature can be helpful for someone to just break down
- 15:44SPEAKER_00: the information that they get in for them to make informed decisions when it comes
- 15:48SPEAKER_00: to investing through it.
- 15:50SPEAKER_01: That's a good question.
- 15:51SPEAKER_01: So for the MarketWatcher News,
- 15:53SPEAKER_01: what they do is basically give you contexts before you commit money.
- 15:58SPEAKER_01: As a user, we want to ensure that we give you on Hitha all the tools.
- 16:02SPEAKER_01: You need to make an informed decision on every market.
- 16:05SPEAKER_01: Investments that you make.
- 16:07SPEAKER_01: So with market and the news, I will show you what's moving in markets and why that's moving.
- 16:12SPEAKER_01: We aggregate different data sources to provide you the latest and
- 16:16SPEAKER_01: the most reliable information on all latest stocks on both the Kenyan as well as
- 16:21SPEAKER_01: the U.S. market.
- 16:23SPEAKER_01: This combined with Atlas, our AI resistance.
- 16:28SPEAKER_01: Basically gives you a very powerful tool for navigating these markets, right?
- 16:33SPEAKER_01: Because you can see the news,
- 16:35SPEAKER_01: understand why certain stocks are moving in certain ways,
- 16:39SPEAKER_01: and also actually asks our AI contextual Questions about an investment or
- 16:44SPEAKER_01: a come home before you actually play trade with them.
- 16:48SPEAKER_01: So for beginners,
- 16:49SPEAKER_01: I believe this is a very powerful combination that they definitely can use right
- 16:54SPEAKER_01: before they buy.
- 16:55SPEAKER_01: We actually do recommend a lot of beginners try it out and do your own research
- 17:00SPEAKER_01: before placing any trades.
- 17:01SPEAKER_01: So yeah, that's how those work.
- 17:03SPEAKER_00: And how does Isa think about the balance between making investing easy?
- 17:08SPEAKER_00: And making sure people understand the risks involved when it comes to investing,
- 17:13SPEAKER_00: especially when you're touching offshore market.
- 17:15SPEAKER_00: How do you balance between having fun while investing at it and also looking at
- 17:20SPEAKER_00: the risks involved, especially in terms of volatility?
- 17:23SPEAKER_00: How does one balance that?
- 17:25SPEAKER_01: Such a good question.
- 17:26SPEAKER_01: When we think about easy, easy for us is primarily easy to understand.
- 17:32SPEAKER_01: So we try to ensure that our user experience on the app is very simple
- 17:37SPEAKER_01: and we keep all the risk and all the different parameters that go into making
- 17:41SPEAKER_01: an investment very visible for the users.
- 17:43SPEAKER_01: Things like ensuring that we're able to show you accurate market data
- 17:48SPEAKER_01: and we actually do features that ensure that one,
- 17:53SPEAKER_01: This is a fun for the users to actually please trade on Hitha.
- 17:57SPEAKER_01: One of my favorite ones is for the U.S. market to do something called Time Machine.
- 18:00SPEAKER_01: What Time Machine does is like a little slider that allows you to see what the price
- 18:06SPEAKER_01: of it has been over time.
- 18:09SPEAKER_01: So, for example,
- 18:10SPEAKER_01: you can see if you had invested $1,000 in Apple,
- 18:14SPEAKER_01: you can slightly see what maybe you had done it like five years ago,
- 18:17SPEAKER_01: or that would be today,
- 18:18SPEAKER_01: which kind of shows you how the market has evolved over time.
- 18:21SPEAKER_01: And it's kind of like a fun,
- 18:23SPEAKER_01: For users to be able to, you know, make it a little more intuitive and engaging.
- 18:30SPEAKER_01: For users to interact with the markets.
- 18:33SPEAKER_01: Another one is to place trades, for example.
- 18:35SPEAKER_01: So even in the way we designed placing trades.
- 18:38SPEAKER_01: This is a multi-step process that shows both transparency of everything
- 18:43SPEAKER_01: that is going on that beach step of the way from how much you are going to get to
- 18:48SPEAKER_01: the breakdown of the order to even when you want to place the trades confirmation,
- 18:52SPEAKER_01: right?
- 18:53SPEAKER_01: Made confirmation process very interactive.
- 18:56SPEAKER_01: So the user follows it and ensures that engaging the user when
- 18:59SPEAKER_01: the finally confirmed trade,
- 19:01SPEAKER_01: we have animations as well that ensure that the user also sees The feedback response
- 19:07SPEAKER_01: to please trade.
- 19:08SPEAKER_01: Now with all of these features and as the user goes through the journey of creating
- 19:12SPEAKER_01: a trade,
- 19:13SPEAKER_01: we ensure we also show a lot of like information, there's tooltips everywhere.
- 19:17SPEAKER_01: We have like sheet and information pop-up basically for the user at every step of
- 19:22SPEAKER_01: the way for them to understand the process and basically enjoy it
- 19:27SPEAKER_01: while making it very easy and fun all three.
- 19:30SPEAKER_00: Now, I move on to Gesund, and I want to talk about communities and social investing features.
- 19:35SPEAKER_00: But before I mention that, we have a question in the comments section.
- 19:39SPEAKER_00: That is Jeff.
- 19:39SPEAKER_00: Jeff is asking, how is taxation handled for earnings from both foreign and domestic markets?
- 19:45SPEAKER_00: Maybe Gesundi can take that.
- 19:47SPEAKER_02: On the HESA app,
- 19:48SPEAKER_02: once you earn dividends,
- 19:50SPEAKER_02: because you will be investing as a foreign investor,
- 19:53SPEAKER_02: the taxation on that dividend amount is 30%,
- 19:57SPEAKER_02: but by the time the amount is being deposited into your So as a foreign investor or
- 20:08SPEAKER_02: a Kenyan investor investing in the US market, you don't have to worry about that.
- 20:12SPEAKER_02: By the time the amount is reaching your wallet, it is net of tax.
- 20:17SPEAKER_02: So yeah, in the US market, you're taxed 30%.
- 20:21SPEAKER_02: In the Kenyan market, I believe it is 5%.
- 20:24SPEAKER_02: And by the time the amount is reaching your wallet, that amount has already been deducted.
- 20:30SPEAKER_02: So I believe that answered that question.
- 20:33SPEAKER_00: Now on the topic of communities and social investing,
- 20:36SPEAKER_00: I understand that is something also he has with them.
- 20:39SPEAKER_00: So which kind of communities do his or her in terms and how helpful are they
- 20:45SPEAKER_00: when it comes to helping investors and making decisions?
- 20:49SPEAKER_00: Maybe seeing up to date with investment news or news just in the markets.
- 20:54SPEAKER_00: New communities are available.
- 20:56SPEAKER_00: And how do we make sure this indicates rather than in currently risking rents
- 21:01SPEAKER_00: when you country these communities?
- 21:02SPEAKER_00: Because I tend to understand that in a country community,
- 21:06SPEAKER_00: it means you have as well many people just be collected.
- 21:09SPEAKER_00: Probably from these other social media spaces, getting into another space again.
- 21:15SPEAKER_00: So how do you ensure that in those communities that you will mention to us
- 21:19SPEAKER_00: that you have,
- 21:20SPEAKER_00: that it's actually also educating more than encouraging copious ingress?
- 21:25SPEAKER_02: That's a very good question.
- 21:27SPEAKER_02: On HESA, we have two community channels.
- 21:31SPEAKER_02: One of it is on Telegram and the other one is on WhatsApp.
- 21:36SPEAKER_02: That is, once you become an investor on the HESA app, you'll get a LinkedIn.
- 21:40SPEAKER_02: Join these channels.
- 21:42SPEAKER_02: And one of the most useful things about a community is
- 21:45SPEAKER_02: that beginners can ask questions they might otherwise be embarrassed to ask.
- 21:51SPEAKER_02: For example,
- 21:52SPEAKER_02: someone might see a discussion about a company's earnings and Ask what
- 21:57SPEAKER_02: an earnings report means.
- 21:59SPEAKER_02: And for anyone who is not in an investment community, you might not have someone to ask.
- 22:05SPEAKER_02: But once you join the HISA community, there are no questions that you are not permitted to ask.
- 22:10SPEAKER_02: To ask or they could ask why a stock has moved after an announcement.
- 22:16SPEAKER_02: Well, we do our best to share this expertise,
- 22:20SPEAKER_02: but other investors also do explain concepts and share how they interpret
- 22:26SPEAKER_02: the information.
- 22:27SPEAKER_02: That kind of interaction can turn a market event into a learning opportunity
- 22:32SPEAKER_02: for both new and experienced investors rather than focusing on one person's trade
- 22:39SPEAKER_02: and saying, I made money because I bought this stock.
- 22:42SPEAKER_02: The greater value is understanding the reasoning,
- 22:45SPEAKER_02: the research and the risk behind an investment decision.
- 22:49SPEAKER_02: And this is one of the things that we have been focusing on since the inception of the HISA hub.
- 22:55SPEAKER_02: Because we understand that it is easy for you to simply copy what someone has bought
- 23:00SPEAKER_02: and so forth.
- 23:01SPEAKER_02: But if you do not understand why that person made that choice,
- 23:06SPEAKER_02: at the end of the day, you'll be reliant on that person.
- 23:10SPEAKER_02: And to be honest,
- 23:11SPEAKER_02: growth comes about once you understand why a person might choose
- 23:16SPEAKER_02: to buy this stock rather than the other stock.
- 23:19SPEAKER_02: And the HISA community is a community that loves to share.
- 23:23SPEAKER_02: And that is one of the things that they do.
- 23:24SPEAKER_02: So if you're an investor and you're not on HISA,
- 23:27SPEAKER_02: you are missing out on the HISA community, a learning opportunity.
- 23:40SPEAKER_00: In the beginning,
- 23:41SPEAKER_00: you mentioned that someone has to start investing with HESA to join the community.
- 23:46SPEAKER_00: Does it mean if I want to join HESA community and I haven't started investing
- 23:51SPEAKER_00: with HESA,
- 23:52SPEAKER_00: I'm unable to join or do I have a window where I can join and start learning
- 23:56SPEAKER_00: about HESA and then in the process, also start investing with HESA?
- 24:00SPEAKER_02: Once you download the app and simply become an investor on the Hissa app,
- 24:06SPEAKER_02: even before buying your first stock, you are given access to this community.
- 24:12SPEAKER_02: And for most of our investors,
- 24:15SPEAKER_02: Because let's be honest,
- 24:17SPEAKER_02: this financial information has not been privy to us unless you go out there and try
- 24:23SPEAKER_02: to understand the markets.
- 24:24SPEAKER_02: Most of us go throughout our lives not knowing about the capital markets.
- 24:30SPEAKER_02: You don't have to start buying, but once you join the community, you can start learning.
- 24:38SPEAKER_02: And yeah, that's just one of the benefits of business.
- 24:45SPEAKER_02: Becoming an investor on HESA.
- 24:47SPEAKER_02: You don't have to have the market knowledge.
- 24:49SPEAKER_02: You can learn as you go through our tools on the app and through our community.
- 24:55SPEAKER_00: Thank you, Genswin.
- 24:57SPEAKER_00: And now move to Ahmed.
- 24:58SPEAKER_00: Let's now talk a little bit about the near future or then maybe the later future of HESA.
- 25:04SPEAKER_00: Is that possibility for HESA to expand into money market funds,
- 25:08SPEAKER_00: maybe transferring corporate bond that is fixed income,
- 25:11SPEAKER_00: over advisory tools, maybe through AI partnerships?
- 25:15SPEAKER_00: Is there such conversations or are there upcoming things like this?
- 25:19SPEAKER_00: And what should new users expect to see on the platform?
- 25:22SPEAKER_00: Let's just say maybe next time because we are in times where time is really norming
- 25:26SPEAKER_00: so fast and a lot can happen even within a year.
- 25:28SPEAKER_00: So are we expecting ISA to maybe just move from the stocks markets?
- 25:33SPEAKER_00: That's a great question.
- 25:34SPEAKER_00: Of course, yes,
- 25:35SPEAKER_00: I would say Shisa is a very dynamic platform in that regard,
- 25:37SPEAKER_00: because one of the things
- 25:48SPEAKER_01: I know that some of our investors tell us is,
- 25:50SPEAKER_01: you know, when you log in on this, a new feature is launched almost every week.
- 25:54SPEAKER_01: We're rapidly looking to ensure that we are adding
- 25:57SPEAKER_01: as many wealth-building opportunities for our investors to participate in.
- 26:03SPEAKER_01: Like you mentioned,
- 26:04SPEAKER_01: from money market funds that are coming up to fixed income,
- 26:06SPEAKER_01: things that are coming up as well.
- 26:09SPEAKER_01: And also just expanding the markets.
- 26:11SPEAKER_01: They have access to other markets beyond just the U.S. and Kenya, across the globe as well.
- 26:16SPEAKER_01: Currently, their income stations also open.
- 26:18SPEAKER_01: We are looking at new markets and new vehicles as well beyond traditional stocks
- 26:23SPEAKER_01: and equity and stocks.
- 26:24SPEAKER_01: We are also looking at things as interesting as in commodities as well.
- 26:30SPEAKER_01: Also, everything we do on GISA is Gared towards basically ensuring
- 26:35SPEAKER_01: that investors have access to this wealth,
- 26:38SPEAKER_01: building opportunities across the globe,
- 26:41SPEAKER_01: not just because of their local and U.S. markets.
- 26:43SPEAKER_01: In terms of all the changes for them to make decisions, we're constantly evolving the app.
- 26:48SPEAKER_01: So here is our investors access to more data as well.
- 26:51SPEAKER_01: For more data in terms of things like Audible,
- 26:54SPEAKER_01: people kind of shows into all these companies that they are interested
- 26:58SPEAKER_01: in investing risk.
- 26:59SPEAKER_01: We're able to actually give them that data.
- 27:01SPEAKER_01: And that's something that we're also looking at in the near future.
- 27:04SPEAKER_01: In less than in a few months, I mean, HISA is very dynamic.
- 27:06SPEAKER_01: And these features are things that we're currently doing and we're excited.
- 27:10SPEAKER_01: So this is just like a photo of the iceberg.
- 27:13SPEAKER_01: I guess people
- 27:19SPEAKER_00: have to join the communities and download the app so
- 27:23SPEAKER_00: that we don't miss out on whatever piece I will come up with.
- 27:26SPEAKER_00: Now, Gersud,
- 27:27SPEAKER_00: as you finish up,
- 27:28SPEAKER_00: what kind of advice would you give someone who is afraid or is just starting
- 27:32SPEAKER_00: to invest?
- 27:33SPEAKER_00: Probably they're just good at saving people.
- 27:36SPEAKER_00: And maybe just putting money aside for money market funds,
- 27:40SPEAKER_00: but they are afraid to take risks and go to the next step and invest into
- 27:44SPEAKER_00: the offshore markets or dive into the NSE markets.
- 27:48SPEAKER_00: What advice would you give someone who has never done that,
- 27:51SPEAKER_00: but they want to try, but they keep on just postponing that?
- 27:55SPEAKER_00: And because I think we have some people who...
- 27:57SPEAKER_00: How I attended so many classes, so many sessions on how to start investing.
- 28:02SPEAKER_00: You're having another session today of how to kick the current investment journey.
- 28:06SPEAKER_00: How do you tell someone who is only just putting in one leg?
- 28:10SPEAKER_00: How do you guide them to start investing?
- 28:12SPEAKER_02: One piece of advice I would share with anyone who's on the fence with certain things
- 28:19SPEAKER_02: in the stock market is that one,
- 28:22SPEAKER_02: the opportunities to draw your wealth in the stock market are bigger
- 28:28SPEAKER_02: than what other products give you access to.
- 28:32SPEAKER_02: So, don't rush.
- 28:33SPEAKER_02: Start with understanding how the stock market works.
- 28:37SPEAKER_02: And the good thing is that right now,
- 28:39SPEAKER_02: and like a few months ago, where,
- 28:41SPEAKER_02: for example,
- 28:42SPEAKER_02: in the Kengen stock market, he needed to buy 100 shares so that he can sell.
- 28:46SPEAKER_02: So, first things first, understand how you can make money in the stock market and as you are
- 29:01SPEAKER_02: Start learning because you never stop learning.
- 29:04SPEAKER_02: Even as much as in this market for the last few years, we keep learning new things.
- 29:10SPEAKER_02: So start with understanding.
- 29:12SPEAKER_02: Once you have the basics intact, start with a small amount.
- 29:16SPEAKER_02: As I said, in the Canadian stock market, you can buy just one share of an listed company.
- 29:21SPEAKER_02: Start with that as you continue to learn about the stock market
- 29:26SPEAKER_02: because you don't need to know everything before you can start.
- 29:29SPEAKER_02: But you should understand the basics,
- 29:32SPEAKER_02: what you're investing in,
- 29:33SPEAKER_02: why you are investing in,
- 29:35SPEAKER_02: how much you can afford to invest in, and what could cost you to lose money.
- 29:40SPEAKER_02: Because as much as we say that the stock market is a high reward kind of asset,
- 29:46SPEAKER_02: It also has high rates.
- 29:48SPEAKER_02: So understand what you are comfortable with.
- 29:52SPEAKER_02: Start with a small amount as you continue to learn about these markets.
- 29:57SPEAKER_02: And let's be honest, don't let fear be the reason.
- 30:01SPEAKER_02: So don't let that opportunity go because you are scared.
- 30:04SPEAKER_02: Start with a small amount, start with one share and continue learning.
- 30:22SPEAKER_00: Now, Gitu,
- 30:22SPEAKER_00: just to throw out a whole panel in that conversation,
- 30:25SPEAKER_00: what are some of the practical ways someone can make money from investing in a stock
- 30:30SPEAKER_00: or someone can make money in the stock market?
- 30:32SPEAKER_00: Maybe just to paint it black and white.
- 30:35SPEAKER_00: How do people make money from that stock market?
- 30:38SPEAKER_02: Ideally,
- 30:39SPEAKER_02: maybe you can just get started with understanding this is
- 30:42SPEAKER_02: a stock market one-on-one session.
- 30:45SPEAKER_02: So understand what is the stock market.
- 30:48SPEAKER_02: The stock market is simply a market where you go to buy and sell these shares.
- 30:53SPEAKER_02: And these shares are simply units of ownership in companies, the like of Safaricom.
- 30:59SPEAKER_02: As we have said right now,
- 31:01SPEAKER_02: you can buy just one share of Safaricom and everyone in this space knows
- 31:07SPEAKER_02: about Safaricom.
- 31:08SPEAKER_02: And ideally,
- 31:09SPEAKER_02: when you are getting started with investing,
- 31:12SPEAKER_02: there are two ways you can make money in the stock market.
- 31:16SPEAKER_02: One, it is when these companies make profit and these companies can choose, keyword can choose.
- 31:23SPEAKER_02: The second way is Capital Appreciation.
- 31:25SPEAKER_02: This is whereby you buy, let's pick Safari Combs as our example in this.
- 31:28SPEAKER_02: So write
- 31:38SPEAKER_02: Right now, Safaricom is trading around 35 to 37 shillings.
- 31:42SPEAKER_02: Let's say that you buy it at 37 shillings right now and it moves to 45 shillings by
- 31:50SPEAKER_02: the end of next week.
- 31:51SPEAKER_02: So you can buy it at 37.
- 31:54SPEAKER_02: And that difference will be your profit.
- 31:59SPEAKER_02: So those are the two ways you can make money with stocks.
- 32:02SPEAKER_02: Capital appreciation and dividend.
- 32:05SPEAKER_02: And I can share one other benefit also.
- 32:08SPEAKER_02: So becoming an investor is as easy as downloading the HESA.
- 32:24SPEAKER_02: And getting to learn the basics of the stock market.
- 32:28SPEAKER_02: And the thing is,
- 32:29SPEAKER_02: these opportunities are now accessible to the everyday investor with 37 shillings
- 32:35SPEAKER_02: before commission.
- 32:38SPEAKER_02: That's very interesting.
- 32:38SPEAKER_02: I guess, again, we have to download the app and get to understand
- 32:53SPEAKER_00: Thank you so much for joining us.
- 33:19SPEAKER_01: For a user that wants to access global markets on Hitha,
- 33:23SPEAKER_01: the first step to that is,
- 33:25SPEAKER_01: as always,
- 33:26SPEAKER_01: she will have a plan,
- 33:28SPEAKER_01: which most times when I talk to people about that,
- 33:31SPEAKER_01: I always say,
- 33:32SPEAKER_01: if you're new to investing,
- 33:34SPEAKER_01: invest And you find that when you cheat investment, simple, based
- 33:56SPEAKER_01: And very predictable.
- 33:57SPEAKER_01: You're able to make a lot of money.
- 33:59SPEAKER_01: And what Sisa helped you do in that regard is gives you, first of all, an easy access.
- 34:05SPEAKER_01: Like Gertrude was mentioning,
- 34:06SPEAKER_01: with just $1,
- 34:07SPEAKER_01: you're able to own a chip of these highly rated and highly valued stocks.
- 34:12SPEAKER_01: And with Sisa, we also are giving you not just access, but also information as well.
- 34:18SPEAKER_01: The reason is power in this stage where you are able to not just So if you want
- 34:23SPEAKER_01: to see these companies, we also understand how these companies work.
- 34:27SPEAKER_01: Basically, first of all, we give you live real-time data on these companies' performance.
- 34:32SPEAKER_01: We give you deep financials as well, so you can actually see their performance over time.
- 34:38SPEAKER_01: So, we're going to talk about how we're going to talk about how we're going to talk
- 34:41SPEAKER_01: about how we're going to talk about how we're going to talk about how we're going
- 34:44SPEAKER_01: to talk about how we're going to talk about how we're going to talk
- 34:48SPEAKER_01: about how we're going to talk about how we're going to talk about how we're
- 34:52SPEAKER_01: So Apple,
- 34:53SPEAKER_01: if you have to obtain $8,000,
- 34:54SPEAKER_01: using TimeRashin teacher,
- 34:54SPEAKER_01: if you have to obtain $8,000 a few years ago,
- 34:55SPEAKER_01: $8,000 plus $8,000 plus $8,000 plus $8,000 plus $8,000 plus $8,000 plus $8,000 plus
- 34:57SPEAKER_01: $8,000 plus $8,000 plus $8,000 plus $8,000 plus $8,000 plus $8,000 plus $8,000 plus
- 34:59SPEAKER_01: $8,000 plus $8,000 plus $8,000 plus $8,000 plus $8,000 plus $8,000 plus $8,000 plus
- 35:01SPEAKER_01: $8,000 plus $8,000 plus $8,000 plus $8,000 plus $8,000 plus $8,000 plus $8,000 plus
- 35:03SPEAKER_01: $8,000 plus $8,000 plus $8,000 plus $8,000 plus $8,000 plus $8,000 plus $8,000 plus
- 35:06SPEAKER_01: $8,000 plus $8,000 plus $8,000 plus We use the stock screener
- 35:09SPEAKER_01: to not just ingesting familiar companies,
- 35:12SPEAKER_01: but also companies that are within the radio are very similar to companies
- 35:17SPEAKER_01: that you're familiar with.
- 35:18SPEAKER_01: So a thing called if you're familiar with NVIDIA, you can also explore Ajit.
- 35:22SPEAKER_01: I think a lot of people do this day, just looking at performance in the semiconductor industry,
- 35:38SPEAKER_01: You can actually access companies in this market still.
- 35:53SPEAKER_01: Is HISA able to do all of that?
- 35:54SPEAKER_01: And finally, we saw a powerful AI tool, right?
- 35:57SPEAKER_01: Not just only relying on your digital users and your understanding of how the companies operate.
- 36:04SPEAKER_01: With AI,
- 36:04SPEAKER_01: we're also moving that into the HISA experience
- 36:07SPEAKER_01: where AI is It will help you supercharge the experience of investing.
- 36:11SPEAKER_01: You can actually use the AI as a sort of investment co-pilot, right?
- 36:16SPEAKER_01: You actually,
- 36:17SPEAKER_01: what will take your fees for deploying capital for investing into these companies,
- 36:21SPEAKER_01: right?
- 36:21SPEAKER_01: And all of this, you can do in one single app.
- 36:24SPEAKER_01: Information,
- 36:25SPEAKER_01: all the data you need,
- 36:27SPEAKER_01: an intelligent co-pilot as well,
- 36:29SPEAKER_01: and at the one market,
- 36:31SPEAKER_01: all in one place,
- 36:32SPEAKER_01: if you are available or in the industry and you are in a very early
- 36:36SPEAKER_01: and user-friendly interest.
- 36:37SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 36:38SPEAKER_00: I think we all love any app that has an AI build in it to make it pretty much easier, maybe.
- 36:44SPEAKER_00: I'm happy to hear that Hisa has that feature in them.
- 36:47SPEAKER_00: So if you haven't downloaded the Hisa app,
- 36:49SPEAKER_00: there's a link in the comment section and you can just click on it and download.
- 36:52SPEAKER_00: Download the HESA app.
- 36:53SPEAKER_00: You can go through the features just to navigate through and understand some
- 36:57SPEAKER_00: of those features and how to just start investing.
- 36:59SPEAKER_00: But actually downloading the app,
- 37:01SPEAKER_00: if someone wants to talk to HESA on a different platform,
- 37:05SPEAKER_00: just tell us maybe Ahmed where someone can find HESA.
- 37:09SPEAKER_00: On which platform can they find you as a password for this conversation?
- 37:13SPEAKER_01: Sheetha is available for both iOS and Android.
- 37:16SPEAKER_01: And users can download them off their Playstores without the Android,
- 37:19SPEAKER_01: Playstore, and then the Apple App Store.
- 37:21SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 37:22SPEAKER_00: So anyone who has a smartphone can actually access the HESA app.
- 37:25SPEAKER_00: Give it maybe a contribution to us at social media spaces maybe where someone can find HESA.
- 37:31SPEAKER_02: We are on all social media platforms.
- 37:34SPEAKER_02: We are here on ads as HESA app.
- 37:37SPEAKER_02: We are also on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Threads, YouTube.
- 37:43SPEAKER_02: And the best part is that once you...
- 37:46SPEAKER_02: You send us a direct message that is once you DM us between the working hours,
- 37:52SPEAKER_02: our customer support team will be there to assist you.
- 37:56SPEAKER_02: So feel free to DM us in case you need assistance getting started on the HESA app.
- 38:02SPEAKER_02: We also have a WhatsApp and call channel that is 011-622221.
- 38:10SPEAKER_02: You can find us on WhatsApp as well and via email at hello at HESA.
- 38:16SPEAKER_02: So we are everywhere.
- 38:20SPEAKER_00: For those who are asking, can everyone access it to Android?
- 38:24SPEAKER_00: Or is it open to everyone Android?
- 38:26SPEAKER_00: Yes, I think Ahmed has mentioned you can download it from iOS or Android.
- 38:31SPEAKER_00: So I guess that means anyone anywhere in the world can download the app and use it.
- 38:38SPEAKER_00: I would like Ahmed to clarify on that.
- 38:40SPEAKER_00: Yes, you can download the app, but can it be used anywhere in the world?
