Transcript
- 0:10Speaker 1: We welcome you into another edition of Birds Weekly, presented
- 0:13Speaker 1: by the Inside of the Birds Network. That man there
- 0:15Speaker 1: is Ray Dinger. I'm Derek Gunn And up next for
- 0:19Speaker 1: the Philadelphia Eagles, who are riding the low tide of
- 0:21Speaker 1: a three game losing streak, are the lowly and I
- 0:24Speaker 1: emphasize the word lowly, Las Vegas Raiders, who have lost
- 0:29Speaker 1: seven in a row and eleven of their last twelve. Ray,
- 0:35Speaker 1: when you talk about the Raiders, for me, anyway, the
- 0:38Speaker 1: first word that comes to mind is putrich, because this
- 0:41Speaker 1: season for the Raiders has been just that they can't
- 0:45Speaker 1: get out of.
- 0:45Speaker 2: Their own way.
- 0:46Speaker 1: We're sitting here, you know, a morning over the Eagles
- 0:50Speaker 1: now being able to play up the expectations. This team
- 0:53Speaker 1: can't even get out of his own way and win
- 0:56Speaker 1: a game.
- 0:57Speaker 2: And yet Ray, Yet.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Ray, there's a small part to me that worries about
- 1:02Speaker 1: playing the Raiders. Tell me why I'm worried, Ray.
- 1:09Speaker 3: Well, there's two reasons to be concerned. Number one is
- 1:12Speaker 3: the way the Eagles are playing right now, which isn't
- 1:15Speaker 3: a whole heck of a lot better than that. But
- 1:18Speaker 3: the other is that a couple of years ago, when
- 1:24Speaker 3: the Eagles were in the middle of their downward spiral
- 1:27Speaker 3: in twenty twenty three, when a very promising season crashed
- 1:32Speaker 3: and burned right before our eyes. At just about this
- 1:35Speaker 3: point in that season, the Arizona Cardinals, led by Jonathan Gannon,
- 1:41Speaker 3: came into the Link with almost the same record as
- 1:46Speaker 3: the Raiders and looking and looking almost as hopeless, and
- 1:50Speaker 3: came in and beat the Eagles in that game. So
- 1:55Speaker 3: it's not like it's not like this can't happen. I
- 1:59Speaker 3: mean the odds. I mean, I don't expect it to happen,
- 2:03Speaker 3: But you can't assume that it won't happen when you're
- 2:08Speaker 3: playing the way the Eagles are playing right now. I mean,
- 2:10Speaker 3: if you look, if you look at the Raiders, just
- 2:12Speaker 3: I don't know how many folks have been paying any
- 2:14Speaker 3: attention to them at all this year. If you look
- 2:16Speaker 3: at them, they're ranked thirty third in total offense. Yeah,
- 2:20Speaker 3: ranked thirty second, dead last in rushing offense. They're ranked
- 2:24Speaker 3: twenty sixth in passing offense. They're ranked thirty second, dead
- 2:29Speaker 3: last in points scored. I mean, their offense has been
- 2:32Speaker 3: that bad. The offensive line is the offensive line is
- 2:36Speaker 3: just awful. You know, Gino Smith has been beaten to death.
- 2:41Speaker 3: I don't know. I mean, he got hurt in the
- 2:43Speaker 3: last game, wasn't able to finish. Kenny Pickett had to
- 2:46Speaker 3: come in and finish the game. Pete Carroll has been
- 2:49Speaker 3: saying he's not sure it'd be his preference to if
- 2:54Speaker 3: Gino can play, that he would rather go with Gino,
- 2:56Speaker 3: but he's not sure he's going to be ready. But
- 2:59Speaker 3: that's the state of this offense. I mean, we've seen
- 3:02Speaker 3: a couple of bad offensive lines. The Chargers offensive line
- 3:05Speaker 3: on Monday Night was pretty awful too. But I will
- 3:10Speaker 3: tell you from what I've seen this year, the worst
- 3:13Speaker 3: offensive line in football by far, by far is the
- 3:19Speaker 3: Vegas Raiders. So the Eagles, whether it's Gino Smith or
- 3:23Speaker 3: Kenny our old friend Kenny Pikett out there, I don't
- 3:27Speaker 3: think the Eagles will have very much trouble getting major
- 3:29Speaker 3: pressure on them.
- 3:31Speaker 1: Well, Gino's been sacked forty nine times, Kenny's been sacked one.
- 3:36Speaker 1: So this offensive line has given up fifty sacks up
- 3:40Speaker 1: to this point of a season. And you're right, we
- 3:44Speaker 1: don't know which quarterback we're going to see because in
- 3:49Speaker 1: the Raiders last game against Denver who by the way,
- 3:53Speaker 1: the Raiders gave Denver quite a game. Gino Smith suffered
- 3:57Speaker 1: a hand and shoulder injury, so we don't know what
- 3:59Speaker 1: his status is for the game. And Ray, you know,
- 4:03Speaker 1: sometimes that backup comes in, and we know Kenny Pickett
- 4:06Speaker 1: is a former first round pick. But sometimes that backup
- 4:09Speaker 1: comes in and gives a lowly team like the Raiders
- 4:13Speaker 1: a spark they haven't had for most of this season.
- 4:16Speaker 2: And so that concerns me. Who would you rather see?
- 4:20Speaker 1: Would you rather see Gino who has thrown sixteen touchdowns
- 4:23Speaker 1: and oh, by the way, fourteen interceptions, or would you
- 4:27Speaker 1: rather see Kenny who hasn't played a whole lot. We
- 4:29Speaker 1: know he had he had some marginal success when he
- 4:32Speaker 1: was in Pittsburgh, but they gave up on him and
- 4:34Speaker 1: sent him to Philadelphia. He lasted to hear what one season.
- 4:38Speaker 1: Now he's a backup for the Raiders. Which quarterback would
- 4:42Speaker 1: you rather see coming into this game?
- 4:44Speaker 3: Well, looking back on the Denver game, Kenny Pickle look
- 4:50Speaker 3: pretty good. I mean, I mean when he when he
- 4:53Speaker 3: came in, he did give the team a spark. Yeah,
- 4:58Speaker 3: I would.
- 5:00Speaker 4: Honestly, I would probably rather face Gino. Probably I would
- 5:04Speaker 4: probably rather face Geno because I mean he you know,
- 5:07Speaker 4: he's clearly beat up and he's had a bad year.
- 5:11Speaker 4: Uh and he does make a lot of mistakes, and
- 5:14Speaker 4: I could see it being a game where the Eagles
- 5:16Speaker 4: could get a lot of pressure on him and turn
- 5:18Speaker 4: and turn the ball over enough though would make this
- 5:21Speaker 4: maybe a pretty comfortable second half.
- 5:24Speaker 3: But haven't had one of those in a while. But yeah,
- 5:27Speaker 3: I would, I would probably lean that way. I mean,
- 5:31Speaker 3: the biggest, the biggest threat they've got offensively, Rock Bauers,
- 5:34Speaker 3: a tight end who really is a very good player.
- 5:37Speaker 3: I mean, he's you know, he's he's a weapon. That
- 5:39Speaker 3: guy's got six touchdowns and you know, whenever they need
- 5:43Speaker 3: to play they go to him and he's and he
- 5:46Speaker 3: can deliver. So it's it's not like they don't have
- 5:48Speaker 3: any players.
- 5:49Speaker 2: I mean.
- 5:49Speaker 3: And on defense, you know, they got Max Crosby, who's
- 5:53Speaker 3: really one of the best pass rushers in the leagues,
- 5:55Speaker 3: got nine sacks, uh and and facing all kinds of
- 5:59Speaker 3: double teams and still gets to the quarterback. So I mean,
- 6:03Speaker 3: they've got some players, but overall, they're a real hurting team.
- 6:08Speaker 3: And the stats will tell you that, and the tab
- 6:10Speaker 3: will tell you that. And this is a game that
- 6:12Speaker 3: I mean the Eagles. This is a game that the
- 6:15Speaker 3: Eagles should be able to control, really from the opening kickoff.
- 6:18Speaker 1: You know, you bring up Max across me and you
- 6:21Speaker 1: look at his career in general, and he has been
- 6:23Speaker 1: a force to be reckoned with. Not only does he
- 6:26Speaker 1: have nine quarterback sacks, he also has twenty five tackles
- 6:30Speaker 1: for a loss. So he's going to be a problem
- 6:33Speaker 1: coming after Jalen and of course trying to stonewall at
- 6:36Speaker 1: Eagles running attack.
- 6:38Speaker 2: Is this possible? I need to even use.
- 6:39Speaker 1: This term, but when you look at how putred they
- 6:43Speaker 1: are across the board, could this be that get right
- 6:47Speaker 1: game for the Eagles? I mean, this is an Eagles
- 6:50Speaker 1: offense that struggles to score one and emphasizes one touchdown again.
- 6:56Speaker 1: You know, could this be that get right moment for
- 6:59Speaker 1: this team and maybe give them some juice for the
- 7:03Speaker 1: remainder of the season.
- 7:06Speaker 3: I mean, you can hope for that. I mean, I'm
- 7:08Speaker 3: past the point of I'm past the point of of
- 7:13Speaker 3: predicting that. Let's put it this way, I have that
- 7:17Speaker 3: degree of certainty that because I think I think I've
- 7:21Speaker 3: even used that term a couple times this year, that
- 7:24Speaker 3: this is going to be the get right game, and
- 7:28Speaker 3: I'm still waiting for it. So I'm not going to
- 7:31Speaker 3: go there. Listen, I mean, I think we're you and
- 7:36Speaker 3: I talked about it after they came back and routed
- 7:38Speaker 3: the Giants and dropped thirty four in the Giants and
- 7:42Speaker 3: Barkley had a big game and all that kind of stuff.
- 7:44Speaker 3: We said, Okay, maybe this is it. Well that was
- 7:47Speaker 3: five games ago, and I've scored eighty one points in
- 7:50Speaker 3: those five games since then. So what we what we
- 7:54Speaker 3: thought was the big turning point proved to be fools gold.
- 7:58Speaker 3: So I'm not I'm not going to now start saying, ah,
- 8:01Speaker 3: this is it. Maybe it could be it, maybe it will.
- 8:06Speaker 3: It certainly could be if you look at the opponent
- 8:09Speaker 3: and you look at the circumstances. If there is a
- 8:12Speaker 3: get right game out there, this would probably be it.
- 8:15Speaker 3: But way past the point of predicting it.
- 8:17Speaker 5: Hey, it's Jeff Mosher. And if you have a family

- 11:07Speaker 1: You're right. They have some players. They have Brock Bowers,
- 11:09Speaker 1: they have Tyler Lockett. They've got a good young running
- 11:12Speaker 1: back in Ashton Genty, but it hasn't come together. And
- 11:16Speaker 1: I thought Pete Carroll would be what this team needed
- 11:19Speaker 1: to get over the hump. They've gone through so many
- 11:21Speaker 1: coaches over the last decade, it's ridiculous, and yet they're
- 11:26Speaker 1: worse now than they were last year, year before that.
- 11:30Speaker 1: You know, you can keep going on and on and on.
- 11:32Speaker 1: You know, the Eagles can't afford to take anybody lightly.
- 11:37Speaker 1: You know, there's no question about that. And of course
- 11:39Speaker 1: we see every season and you just alluded to, you know,
- 11:43Speaker 1: not too long ago that you know, a lowly Arizona
- 11:45Speaker 1: team came into the link and shocked the Eagles in
- 11:48Speaker 1: their own backyard. And so I don't put anything past
- 11:51Speaker 1: this team right now, but I do believe the Eagles
- 11:56Speaker 1: need to deliver a knockout blow early in this game.
- 12:00Speaker 1: You cannot let a wounded animal like the Raiders hang
- 12:03Speaker 1: around until the fourth quarter and even think that they
- 12:06Speaker 1: have a possibility of pulling off an upset on the road,
- 12:10Speaker 1: something they haven't done all season long. You have to
- 12:13Speaker 1: take the heart away from this Raiders team right from
- 12:16Speaker 1: the very start. By halftime, you should make them already
- 12:20Speaker 1: mentally be walking to the buses and thinking about getting
- 12:24Speaker 1: back on the plane they're heading heading to Vegas.
- 12:27Speaker 2: Right.
- 12:28Speaker 3: That's how they lost the Arizona Cardinal game was they
- 12:32Speaker 3: let the Cardinals hang around and hang around, and then
- 12:34Speaker 3: the second half the Cardinals all of a sudden realized, hey,
- 12:37Speaker 3: we could win this thing, and they went out and
- 12:39Speaker 3: did it. Yeah. I mean, that's that's the trap that
- 12:41Speaker 3: you sometimes fall into, and the Eagles can't let that happen. Now,
- 12:46Speaker 3: that's easier said than done. When you've got an offense
- 12:49Speaker 3: like the Eagles that it just keeps misfiring.
- 12:51Speaker 2: All the time.
- 12:53Speaker 3: This is an offense that just doesn't blow people out.
- 12:56Speaker 3: I mean, and they don't start fast, and they don't
- 12:58Speaker 3: score a lot of points, and they have the characteristics
- 13:03Speaker 3: of a team that could keep a bad team in
- 13:05Speaker 3: a game for a long time because they just don't
- 13:07Speaker 3: score a lot. And that would be yeah, that would
- 13:10Speaker 3: be worst case scenario. I mean what you would hope
- 13:13Speaker 3: and I would assume that the coaches will probably be
- 13:16Speaker 3: stressing it this week is let's start fast, let's get ahead,
- 13:19Speaker 3: and by halftime, let's be in control of this game. Well, okay,
- 13:24Speaker 3: I mean it seems like a good formula, but are
- 13:26Speaker 3: they capable of pulling it off at this point? I
- 13:30Speaker 3: don't know. At this point, I don't know. I mean,
- 13:32Speaker 3: you've got the last three games with Jalen Hurts, it's gone.
- 13:38Speaker 3: I mean, you don't like to use the term regress,
- 13:41Speaker 3: there's no other way of describing it. I mean, quarterback
- 13:44Speaker 3: efficiency rating in the Dallas game ninety nine point two.
- 13:47Speaker 3: Quarterback efficiency rating against Chicago eighty four point two. It's
- 13:51Speaker 3: not great. But then against the Chargers quarterback officiency rating
- 13:56Speaker 3: thirty one point three. So each of the last three
- 13:59Speaker 3: games games has gone from not too good to pretty
- 14:03Speaker 3: bad to terrible. That's the last three games. And you know,
- 14:10Speaker 3: if this team is going to get this arrow turned
- 14:13Speaker 3: around to point it back up again, it's got to
- 14:16Speaker 3: start with him. It's got to start with him.
- 14:19Speaker 2: All right.
- 14:20Speaker 1: I know who you're going to pick for this game,
- 14:23Speaker 1: But give me a final score for this one.
- 14:27Speaker 3: Well, in terms of points, I mean, neither of these
- 14:31Speaker 3: two teams score much. So I do think the Eagles
- 14:35Speaker 3: will win. Not that I think it's going to be
- 14:38Speaker 3: one of these, oh we're back kind of wins. I
- 14:41Speaker 3: think it's going to be Okay, we broke the losing
- 14:43Speaker 3: streak kind of wins. But I think I don't see
- 14:49Speaker 3: this team scoring a bunch because I just don't know
- 14:51Speaker 3: they're capable of scoring a bunch. I'm going to say
- 14:54Speaker 3: Eagles twenty to fourteen.
- 14:57Speaker 1: Twenty to fourteen. Oh, that's a lot higher than what
- 15:03Speaker 1: I was thinking. I'm gonna shock you. And you know,
- 15:10Speaker 1: this Eagles team can't find the end zone, can't get
- 15:12Speaker 1: out of its own way when they do score penalties.
- 15:15Speaker 2: You know, will the.
- 15:16Speaker 1: Gate a score The way this Eagles defense played against
- 15:21Speaker 1: the Chargers, I expect Vic Fangio's defense to pin back
- 15:24Speaker 1: his ears and come after the quarterback of all day long.
- 15:28Speaker 1: So with that said, Ray, my final score is and
- 15:31Speaker 1: I do believe the Eagles will find a way somehow
- 15:34Speaker 1: to win this game and give fans a sigh of
- 15:37Speaker 1: relief temporarily. Ten to six is my final score. Ten
- 15:41Speaker 1: to six. That's the way I see it.
