- 1:39Speaker 3: we are loaded up this morning. Of course, today is
- 1:41Speaker 3: the second annual Sock Drop as we are taking up
- 1:46Speaker 3: donations of socks for Union Mission and get Jason Quintrel
- 1:50Speaker 3: from Union Missions is going to be joined us momentarily.
- 1:52Speaker 3: Also Rob Reel from ninety six one KWS is here.
- 1:55Speaker 3: I will tell you it has been I don't want
- 1:58Speaker 3: to spoil it, but it's been a huge success so far,
- 2:00Speaker 3: even with the temperatures. We started at seven o'clock this
- 2:03Speaker 3: morning out on our park and I will let them
- 2:04Speaker 3: talk about that a little bit later on Red's caravan
- 2:07Speaker 3: is coming to the Condal Seema Convention Center tomorrow night.
- 2:10Speaker 3: We'll spend a little time talking about that and a
- 2:12Speaker 3: lot of changes with KRT here in the Canall Valley.
- 2:14Speaker 3: Sean Hill, the executive and director of KRT, will be
- 2:17Speaker 3: stopping by as well, and there's always your phone calls
- 2:19Speaker 3: and text to welcome. We do want to go to
- 2:21Speaker 3: the newsroom though, and talk to Jeff Jenkins about yesterday
- 2:24Speaker 3: in the White Feather and Lance trial. Jeff, good morning,
- 2:27Speaker 3: Good morning, Dave. Yes.
- 2:28Speaker 6: So, the defense is continuing to call its witnesses to
- 2:32Speaker 6: the stand. This is the child abuse, child trafficking trial
- 2:37Speaker 6: to this husband and wife, Jeannie K. Whitefeather Donald Ray
- 2:39Speaker 6: Lance arrested in October twenty twenty three when deputies found
- 2:44Speaker 6: two of their kids locked in a shed. So the
- 2:47Speaker 6: defense is presenting its case and basically Jeanie K. Whitefeather
- 2:50Speaker 6: was on the stand yesterday in her own defense again
- 2:53Speaker 6: spending several hours and just talking about that she was
- 2:57Speaker 6: more of a frustrated parent. She says she did not
- 2:59Speaker 6: abuse her children, and they went over several things and
- 3:02Speaker 6: then there were character witnesses called on her behalf people
- 3:06Speaker 6: that knew her when she lived in other places and
- 3:10Speaker 6: saying that she was not a racist. They saw her
- 3:13Speaker 6: going the extra mile to care for her children. So
- 3:16Speaker 6: there you have the defense trying to build the case
- 3:18Speaker 6: that what has been said about her is not true.
- 3:22Speaker 6: What we expect today is they start, is they resume testimony.
- 3:27Speaker 6: We expect Donald Ray Lance to take the stand in
- 3:30Speaker 6: his own defense. So this might be the highlight of
- 3:32Speaker 6: the day. You may remember Lance was seen on video
- 3:36Speaker 6: that the jury saw that Jennie K. White Feather took
- 3:40Speaker 6: of him berating the children over several things. So I'm
- 3:45Speaker 6: sure he'll be questioned about that, both from the defense
- 3:49Speaker 6: attorney side and from the cross examination of Connall County prosecutor. So,
- 3:54Speaker 6: you know, we're taking additional steps here. We'll see where
- 3:59Speaker 6: it is after today. A if the state is close,
- 4:01Speaker 6: if the defense is close to resting its case. After
- 4:04Speaker 6: that there could be rebuttal witnesses, and then you've got
- 4:07Speaker 6: jury instructions, closing arguments, those things. So maybe by tomorrow,
- 4:11Speaker 6: but I you know, maybe stretch into next week.
- 4:13Speaker 7: We'll have to see.
- 4:14Speaker 3: All right, Jeff, I appreciate it, man, thanks a lot.
- 4:17Speaker 3: All right, all right, the second Annual w V r
- 4:20Speaker 3: C Media sock drops happening on our parking not eleven
- 4:23Speaker 3: eleven Virginia Street East and Charles have benefiting Union missioned.
- 4:26Speaker 3: Jason Countrel is the CEO, the big guy, the chief CA.
- 4:31Speaker 3: What's your title there to Jason?
- 4:33Speaker 8: Yeah, CEO officially, but I will answer to just about anything.
- 4:37Speaker 3: Okay, late for supper, rob real rock in the old
- 4:40Speaker 3: school Chicago White Sox hat I had to wear a
- 4:43Speaker 3: socks I get today. I get that. See what I
- 4:45Speaker 3: did there, and my wife being from Chicago, the whole
- 4:48Speaker 3: family are White Sox fans and they are really bad.
- 4:51Speaker 3: They're really bad. They were the worst team in the matrixes.
- 4:54Speaker 3: They tried to sign me.
- 4:56Speaker 9: How bad it well, because you know, two years of
- 4:58Speaker 9: minor league experience and I've left, so yeah, I could
- 5:01Speaker 9: have ended up playing on the South side of Chicago.
- 5:03Speaker 3: It is the baddest part of town. That's what I've heard.
- 5:05Speaker 3: Did a song about that, I think? All right, So
- 5:07Speaker 3: we started at seven o'clock this morning, and again, if
- 5:10Speaker 3: you're not familiar with this, this is our second annual
- 5:12Speaker 3: sock dropp We're asking for donations of packages of new socks.
- 5:15Speaker 3: Whether you can give us one package, whether you can
- 5:17Speaker 3: give us fifty, We'll take whatever you can get. And Jason,
- 5:21Speaker 3: it's so far and we're only one hour and twelve
- 5:24Speaker 3: minutes into it. It's been a big success so far.
- 5:27Speaker 8: Dave. This is my first experience with you guys in
- 5:29Speaker 8: this sock drop, and I'm telling you it's amazing the
- 5:33Speaker 8: amount of work you guys have put into this, the
- 5:36Speaker 8: amount of time you've put into this, and the amount
- 5:39Speaker 8: of support you've gotten this. I mean, by eight thirty
- 5:41Speaker 8: we had a couple hundred pairs of socks.
- 5:43Speaker 3: Dave.
- 5:43Speaker 8: That's crazy. Five degrees outside people were pulling giving socks.
- 5:47Speaker 3: Yeah, and I'll tell you a real quick story. You know,
- 5:49Speaker 3: this is one of those events. And Rob knows this too,
- 5:51Speaker 3: that all of our stations are involved and this is
- 5:53Speaker 3: Rob's baby. But we rope all of us in VA
- 5:55Speaker 3: one hundred to beat and the mountain, and all of
- 5:58Speaker 3: our stations are involved in it. So I'm out there
- 6:01Speaker 3: with Steve Animal on the ninety eight seven a mountain.
- 6:03Speaker 3: I hang out on the mountain a little bit from
- 6:05Speaker 3: time to time, and I'm out there with Animal and
- 6:07Speaker 3: we almost saw Animal get hit and killed by a car.
- 6:11Speaker 3: If you go over to the Mountain Facebook page or
- 6:13Speaker 3: also Dave Allen Radio. I shared it out there. We
- 6:17Speaker 3: almost lost our morning guy there, but that's okay because
- 6:20Speaker 3: we would have got socks out of it. So that's
- 6:21Speaker 3: all that matters, right, Well, if you knock him out
- 6:24Speaker 3: of his socks, it's double the points. I don't know
- 6:26Speaker 3: that you want animal socks though.
- 6:28Speaker 9: No, No, those would need to be laundered yea heavily.
- 6:31Speaker 3: But you know, and Rob, you and I talk about
- 6:33Speaker 3: this all the time when I have you on, whether
- 6:35Speaker 3: it's this, whether it's Turkey Drop, whether it's the Beat's
- 6:38Speaker 3: backpack attack that we do your walk to Morgantown for
- 6:41Speaker 3: WVU Children's We got the greatest staying listeners in the world, man,
- 6:45Speaker 3: don't we?
- 6:45Speaker 9: Though it is the reason maybe I came back the
- 6:49Speaker 9: people in West Virginia.
- 6:51Speaker 3: I had worked here once.
- 6:52Speaker 9: Before in the mid twenty teens, and life happens and
- 6:57Speaker 9: things happen. But when I had the opportunity to them
- 7:00Speaker 9: back here and do get up real early on ninety
- 7:03Speaker 9: six to one k WUS, it was because of the
- 7:06Speaker 9: people in West Virginia. I have I've lived in seventeen states,
- 7:09Speaker 9: I have been posted to three other countries, and I
- 7:12Speaker 9: have never ever ever encountered people who are so willing
- 7:18Speaker 9: to give to their friends and neighbors.
- 7:20Speaker 3: And of course these are all going to Union Mission. Jason,
- 7:22Speaker 3: how exactly will once we get them to you? Yes,
- 7:25Speaker 3: what happens then? I mean, how do these things go
- 7:27Speaker 3: out to people to wait? Yet?
- 7:29Speaker 10: Yeah?
- 7:29Speaker 8: Well, yeah, so we we have a mins shelter over
- 7:32Speaker 8: off of Leon Solomon Way that will certainly distribute there.
- 7:35Speaker 8: But we'll also get on the phone and call some
- 7:37Speaker 8: other organizations that get involved in homelessness and help folks
- 7:39Speaker 8: out on the streets, and we'll we'll start getting them
- 7:41Speaker 8: out immediately to folks that are in need. I mean,
- 7:43Speaker 8: there are people out right now. I can't imagine just
- 7:45Speaker 8: a little bit of time I've spent out there, Yeah,
- 7:47Speaker 8: I can't imagine what they are, how they're living out there,
- 7:51Speaker 8: how they're how they're existing out there, and it kind
- 7:54Speaker 8: of it really it breaks my heart and I want
- 7:56Speaker 8: to I want to get these socks to these people.
- 7:57Speaker 9: Well, you and I even had a conversation about what
- 8:00Speaker 9: is homelessness, and anybody who's been in downtown Charleston has
- 8:04Speaker 9: seen those displaced folks who maybe are trying to camp
- 8:07Speaker 9: under under overpasses and are down on the trail by
- 8:12Speaker 9: the Canal River. But we also talked about, you know
- 8:14Speaker 9: that that mom who has tried to escape an abusive
- 8:17Speaker 9: situation with her kids and she's CouchSurfing. Yeah, and we've
- 8:20Speaker 9: talked about, you know, folks who've just had whether it's
- 8:23Speaker 9: medical or job related things.
- 8:24Speaker 3: They may be living out.
- 8:25Speaker 9: Of their car for two weeks, two months, two years
- 8:29Speaker 9: because they just can't get their feet back under them,
- 8:32Speaker 9: and so getting them socks pardon the pun, is one
- 8:35Speaker 9: step closer to getting those folks feet under them.
- 8:39Speaker 7: Absolutely.
- 8:39Speaker 8: You mentioned this morning how that basic need has to
- 8:42Speaker 8: be met, yep, and that is exactly what you guys
- 8:46Speaker 8: are doing with this sock drop. I mean basic needs
- 8:49Speaker 8: of just warmth being met. That's amazing.
- 8:52Speaker 3: And you can get socks at a variety of places
- 8:55Speaker 3: and it's not going to set you back a whole lot.
- 8:57Speaker 3: And by end, if you're working today and maybe you
- 8:59Speaker 3: didn't have time, we can take cash, sure we can,
- 9:02Speaker 3: you can. And again it's we make it really easy
- 9:04Speaker 3: for you because our parking lot is a it's an ellipse.
- 9:08Speaker 3: It's an ellipse.
- 9:09Speaker 7: As the ex wife math teacher, Yes, I tell you it's.
- 9:12Speaker 3: The it's an ellipse. So basically what that means is
- 9:14Speaker 3: that doesn't mean it blocks out the sun. What it
- 9:17Speaker 3: means is is that it pulled that. When you pull
- 9:19Speaker 3: on our parking lot, you literally go in one side,
- 9:21Speaker 3: you make a circle. And we got people out there
- 9:24Speaker 3: all day, whether it's Rob I'll be out there, Stephen, Jenny,
- 9:28Speaker 3: Woody Woods, all these people. The sales weasels are involved.
- 9:31Speaker 3: We make everybody out there and you can just hand
- 9:34Speaker 3: them to us.
- 9:34Speaker 9: So on that note, can I tell a quick story
- 9:36Speaker 9: about Stephanie. Yeah, So Stephanie is a brand new employee,
- 9:40Speaker 9: like not even officially an employee yet. She is gonna
- 9:43Speaker 9: come officially start working for us on February third. And
- 9:46Speaker 9: there's more about that, and you know, I'm not gonna
- 9:48Speaker 9: lift the curtain. Stephanie insisted on coming today to volunteer
- 9:53Speaker 9: and be a part of this because she's like, I
- 9:57Speaker 9: love doing this sort of stuff.
- 9:58Speaker 3: This is why I want to work here.
- 10:00Speaker 9: Somebody who is not even on the payroll, yeah yet
- 10:04Speaker 9: has come to be a part of this.
- 10:05Speaker 3: So welcome stephan Yeah. She's a South Charleston native who's
- 10:08Speaker 3: been living in Cincinnati and we got some special projects.
- 10:12Speaker 3: We're not at Liberty to discuss some things that are
- 10:14Speaker 3: going to happen in the month of February. Fingers crossed yea,
- 10:18Speaker 3: and Stephanie's going to be a big part of that.
- 10:19Speaker 3: But yeah, you're right. I mean, when she found out
- 10:21Speaker 3: we were doing this, we her start date is February third,
- 10:25Speaker 3: she said, I want to be a part of this,
- 10:26Speaker 3: and she showed up to help at seven o'clock this morning.
- 10:29Speaker 9: If that doesn't sum up the wild and wonderful spirit
- 10:32Speaker 9: of West Virginia helping West Virginians, I don't know what does.
- 10:34Speaker 3: All right, So we're gonna be out on the parking
- 10:36Speaker 3: lot today until six pm. It is going to be sunny.
- 10:41Speaker 3: The sun's gonna come out, so there is that a
- 10:45Speaker 3: little sunshine. And I think our good friends over at
- 10:48Speaker 3: Chick fil A are going to even provide us with
- 10:49Speaker 3: some lunch for people.
- 10:51Speaker 9: A great big thank you to Tom and Tim and
- 10:53Speaker 9: Meghan and everybody at the South Charleston location every week
- 10:56Speaker 9: on ninety six to one kwus. They are the ones
- 10:59Speaker 9: who feed our winning workplaces for free lunch Friday, and
- 11:02Speaker 9: so we're we're subbing that this week to feed our volunteers,
- 11:06Speaker 9: our people who are on the parking lot all day,
- 11:09Speaker 9: so and and we may have a little something for
- 11:12Speaker 9: you while supplies last as you swing through this morning.
- 11:16Speaker 9: So and I have to say that very carefully because
- 11:19Speaker 9: there's rules about quid pro quo and we're not handing
- 11:22Speaker 9: out any quid or anything. But as you come through,
- 11:25Speaker 9: we might have something a little special for you, a
- 11:27Speaker 9: little extra something, something for stopping by to drop off
- 11:31Speaker 9: some new socks.
- 11:31Speaker 3: And again it's till six o'clock tonight, folks. We make
- 11:34Speaker 3: it really easy if we head onto to your local
- 11:35Speaker 3: dollar store. They're not it's a very inexpensive thing.
- 11:39Speaker 9: The variety of bags and price tags we have seen
- 11:41Speaker 9: has been extraordinary.
- 11:43Speaker 3: Yes, we talked about one of our listeners, pouted out
- 11:45Speaker 3: eight is the outlet who's a good advertiser of all
- 11:47Speaker 3: of our stations here. They had heated socks for how
- 11:50Speaker 3: much was it rob at one point? Now they may
- 11:51Speaker 3: not still have them from that What was at one point?
- 11:53Speaker 3: It was very an expensive that I.
- 11:54Speaker 9: Wanted to go I want to go dirt cheap because
- 11:56Speaker 9: I don't remember the number per at the top of
- 11:58Speaker 9: my head, but it was.
- 11:59Speaker 3: Yeah, we'reiculously cheap, and you can, and there's a variety
- 12:02Speaker 3: of places you can go. And if you're on your
- 12:03Speaker 3: lunch out, Rob and I talked about that a couple
- 12:05Speaker 3: of days ago. If you get to an hour for lunch,
- 12:07Speaker 3: I mean you can still you can still go grab
- 12:09Speaker 3: you some lunch somewhere, but we'll just pull in our
- 12:12Speaker 3: parking lot and hand us the stuff and and we'll
- 12:14Speaker 3: take care of it.
- 12:15Speaker 9: Well, maybe you are like Tracy the star, the straw
- 12:17Speaker 9: that stirs our office drink around here, and maybe you
- 12:20Speaker 9: can jump up and start pestering people at work and
- 12:22Speaker 9: get you know, fives and tens and twenties together, and
- 12:26Speaker 9: you know, maybe maybe somebody wants to run out and
- 12:29Speaker 9: buy socks, or maybe somebody just wants to bring a
- 12:31Speaker 9: big envelope of cash. Green is always the right color,
- 12:34Speaker 9: and cash is always the right time.
- 12:35Speaker 8: You can also, if you don't have time for any
- 12:37Speaker 8: of that, go online www dot we feedpeople dot Com
- 12:41Speaker 8: and you can donate there and tag it with socks,
- 12:45Speaker 8: and we will make sure that those socks go in
- 12:47Speaker 8: the correct hands or feet.
- 12:50Speaker 3: We could, we could Dyna might drop in MONI. Those
- 12:53Speaker 3: broadcast schools really pan off, all right, Jason always a
- 12:57Speaker 3: pleasure to work with you, and you guys do do
- 12:58Speaker 3: incredible work out there. And Jason, I think, wanted to
- 13:02Speaker 3: stay the whole hour on the show here because he
- 13:04Speaker 3: was thinking, well, if I'm in here, then I'm not
- 13:05Speaker 3: gonna have to be out there.
- 13:06Speaker 8: I mean I'm not.
- 13:07Speaker 3: No, No, I got other things. I got a little disappointed.
- 13:09Speaker 3: I got other things that I got to get to.
- 13:11Speaker 9: You wouldn't be the first person Dave's disappointed today today today, Hey,
- 13:15Speaker 9: thanks man.
- 13:16Speaker 3: You know what my answer to that would be. I'm
- 13:17Speaker 3: not going to say it on a family radio show, though, Ron,
- 13:20Speaker 3: I'm not going to say that at all. So anyway,
- 13:22Speaker 3: all right, we got to go, guys. I appreciate you
- 13:24Speaker 3: being here. Rob, I'll be out on the parking lot
- 13:25Speaker 3: with you throughout the day. Jason Quintreil, the CEO of
- 13:28Speaker 3: Union Mission, appreciate you being here as well. It's going
- 13:30Speaker 3: on till six o'clock tonight on our parking lot eleven eleven.

- 13:37Speaker 3: and we would appreciate it and thanks a lot, guys.

- 17:43Speaker 3: you good?
- 17:44Speaker 7: Good morning, Dave.
- 17:44Speaker 3: Thanks for having me, Thank you for being here, Thank
- 17:46Speaker 3: you for walking through the sock drop there this morning.
- 17:49Speaker 3: It's pretty amazing what our listeners can do. And like
- 17:52Speaker 3: I got two hundred pairs of socks already and so
- 17:54Speaker 3: on an hour and twenty five minutes into this thing.
- 17:57Speaker 7: Exactly, and you can tell today's the day that you
- 17:59Speaker 7: need things like this. I mean, what's these temperatures outside?
- 18:02Speaker 3: Yeah? Exactly? All right. So I've had you on the
- 18:05Speaker 3: show several times and we talked about the changes coming
- 18:10Speaker 3: to KRT, and you and I were talking about this
- 18:13Speaker 3: off the air. What happens is sometimes you talk about things,
- 18:15Speaker 3: we do news stories on them, and then until it
- 18:18Speaker 3: actually takes effect, people don't realize that it's here and
- 18:22Speaker 3: it's affecting people. So for those that may not have
- 18:25Speaker 3: heard you on the air in the past, well before,
- 18:27Speaker 3: we talk about the changes that have happened and are
- 18:30Speaker 3: now being implemented, why the need for said changes exactly.
- 18:35Speaker 7: So what we did, and we started this process over
- 18:38Speaker 7: a year ago, is looking at our system, Hey, what works,
- 18:40Speaker 7: what doesn't work? What changes can we make to essentially
- 18:44Speaker 7: make our dollar go further, let's be fiscally responsible, but
- 18:47Speaker 7: that's also make sure that we can do as much
- 18:49Speaker 7: as we can for our passengers and that We went
- 18:52Speaker 7: through this process and we called it a comprehensive operational
- 18:54Speaker 7: analysis to look, hey, what routes are performing well, what
- 18:57Speaker 7: routes could do a little bit better, and what we
- 19:00Speaker 7: make to our service to really be sustainable for years
- 19:03Speaker 7: to come. And so the result there was a recommendation of, hey,
- 19:08Speaker 7: make these changes to these particular routes. We held three
- 19:11Speaker 7: public hearings. We got a lot of feedback from the public,
- 19:13Speaker 7: and I'm really proud our board listened to the public.
- 19:17Speaker 7: They made some changes, and in October they passed they
- 19:21Speaker 7: passed a plan that would essentially go into effect come
- 19:25Speaker 7: early next month, on February ninth, that would make some
- 19:27Speaker 7: of these changes. And now we're getting closer to that
- 19:29Speaker 7: finished day.
- 19:30Speaker 3: So they haven't actually happened yet. I'm sorry about it.
- 19:32Speaker 7: I have not happened yet, Okay, February February ninth. Yes,
- 19:34Speaker 7: So we're we're in the process right now of saying, hey,
- 19:36Speaker 7: we've got, you know, two and a half weeks to
- 19:38Speaker 7: do every single thing we can to make sure our
- 19:40Speaker 7: passengers are informed, they know what the schedule looks like,
- 19:42Speaker 7: they know what the routes look like, et cetera. So
- 19:45Speaker 7: when February ninth happens, they're not surprised by anything.
- 19:48Speaker 3: And I guess the one that's probably Sean getting the
- 19:50Speaker 3: most attention is the elimination of the Sunday service. Is
- 19:53Speaker 3: that the one that changed exactly.
- 19:54Speaker 7: So the big thing we did was come February second,
- 19:57Speaker 7: will be the last Sunday that KRT operates, So come
- 20:00Speaker 7: February ninth, there would be no Sunday service with Kart.
- 20:04Speaker 7: That was something we looked at when we were talking
- 20:06Speaker 7: about potentially eliminating eleven routes. Instead of eliminating those routes,
- 20:10Speaker 7: we kept every single route in service. But yes, Sunday
- 20:13Speaker 7: service does go down, and we were able to look
- 20:15Speaker 7: at the data and see the ridership on Sundays. There
- 20:18Speaker 7: was ridership there, but it was substantially lower than on weekdays.
- 20:22Speaker 3: Well, and unfortunately, and there's always going to be the
- 20:25Speaker 3: cases where people, As a matter of fact, I have
- 20:27Speaker 3: a text here it says I'm not a KRT writer.
- 20:29Speaker 3: Sunday workers need the service to get to work, so
- 20:31Speaker 3: I'd like to request KRT to reconsider some sort of
- 20:34Speaker 3: Sunday service, and you're probably hearing a lot of.
- 20:37Speaker 7: That, sure, And I think the thing that we've proven
- 20:39Speaker 7: with these public hearings and listening to the public and
- 20:42Speaker 7: our board being so deliberative in their decisions is we
- 20:45Speaker 7: don't pretend that that we've got the perfect answer. It's
- 20:48Speaker 7: tough when you live in a world of budget realities
- 20:50Speaker 7: and you're trying to make the best decisions you can
- 20:52Speaker 7: with the limited amount of funds. And this Sunday service
- 20:56Speaker 7: was the first option we looked at, or sorry, it
- 20:58Speaker 7: wasn't the first option we looked at, but what we
- 21:00Speaker 7: landed on as the kind of the lesser evil there
- 21:04Speaker 7: in our world. So you know, long term, we will
- 21:06Speaker 7: continue to evaluate these what's working, what's not working, and
- 21:09Speaker 7: make those changes on a more regular basis. That way,
- 21:12Speaker 7: it's not so tough where every ten or fifteen years
- 21:14Speaker 7: you say, hey, here's a huge change at KRT. We
- 21:17Speaker 7: need to be liquid and keep making changes based off
- 21:20Speaker 7: what works and what doesn't and what are some of
- 21:23Speaker 7: the other changes.
- 21:24Speaker 3: As I said, the Sunday elimination seems to be the
- 21:26Speaker 3: one that's getting the most headlines, but what are some
- 21:28Speaker 3: of the other.
- 21:28Speaker 7: Sure, so the Sunday service is getting the most headlines,
- 21:31Speaker 7: but the eleven routes that were originally proposed to be discontinued,
- 21:35Speaker 7: we're actually taking those routes and we're keeping them. But
- 21:38Speaker 7: we did. What we did was reduce the frequency of them,
- 21:40Speaker 7: so some of them operated twelve or eight times a day.
- 21:43Speaker 7: Now they might operate four to six times a day.
- 21:46Speaker 7: And we wanted to keep the routes in the morning
- 21:48Speaker 7: and then in the evenings to make sure that individuals
- 21:50Speaker 7: can get to and from work. But recognize that those
- 21:53Speaker 7: routes were extremely underperforming and over subsidized. I couldn't look
- 21:57Speaker 7: in the eye and say, hey, this makes sense as
- 21:59Speaker 7: far as using taxpayer money to continue to run this
- 22:01Speaker 7: this many times a day. So we did that as
- 22:03Speaker 7: one step, but also seven of our routes we actually
- 22:06Speaker 7: are increasing the service because we recognized, hey, these mainline routes,
- 22:11Speaker 7: eighty seven percent of our ridership happens on four routes.
- 22:14Speaker 7: So we bumped up seven of those routes to say, hey,
- 22:17Speaker 7: the routes that are working, let's increase the service and
- 22:19Speaker 7: continue to get people on those lines.
- 22:21Speaker 3: So it's not all about eliminating. I mean you're exactually
- 22:24Speaker 3: increasing something exactly.
- 22:25Speaker 7: We're minimizing eleven routes as far as their frequency, but
- 22:29Speaker 7: we're increasing seven of the routes. So it's a trade
- 22:31Speaker 7: off of, Hey, we're going to keep what's working and
- 22:33Speaker 7: bump it up, and the things that aren't working as well,
- 22:35Speaker 7: we're going to take down.
- 22:37Speaker 3: We had a text here that says, what about using
- 22:39Speaker 3: one of the smaller buses as a kind of an
- 22:41Speaker 3: uber service for those who may need help to work
- 22:44Speaker 3: also and be able to use their passes for payments.
- 22:46Speaker 7: Sure, So we have a pilot project that's going on
- 22:49Speaker 7: right now. You can go online the Apple Store, Google
- 22:52Speaker 7: Store download car t Plus. Care Ta Plus is a
- 22:55Speaker 7: program that we are using smaller vehicles. Right now, we're
- 22:58Speaker 7: using our EIGHTA vans, smaller gray vands you'll see around town.
- 23:02Speaker 7: But we've also ordered some new shuttle vans and right
- 23:05Speaker 7: now we have three zones. We have East Charleston, West Charleston,
- 23:07Speaker 7: and South Hills. We've started that program where individuals can
- 23:10Speaker 7: essentially get on the app or they can call under
- 23:12Speaker 7: office and request a ride. We've done it for four months.
- 23:14Speaker 7: The first month it was like twenty seven people used
- 23:16Speaker 7: it last month. I'm proud we're up to about fifteen
- 23:19Speaker 7: hundred people. Wow, twenty seven to fifteen hundred. It went
- 23:22Speaker 7: up so high in the last four months that we
- 23:24Speaker 7: report our numbers to FTA and they said, whoa, you
- 23:26Speaker 7: guys had a typo and they said, well, no, we
- 23:29Speaker 7: didn't actually like people were actually using the service. And
- 23:31Speaker 7: we were excited about that. But again, that's going to
- 23:34Speaker 7: continue to grow and we're going to do that. And
- 23:37Speaker 7: that was part of this process was, Hey, we're not
- 23:39Speaker 7: we're not going to take away service, We're going to
- 23:40Speaker 7: replace it with something in certain instances, in certain areas
- 23:43Speaker 7: where maybe the frequency of your routes aren't as often,
- 23:46Speaker 7: but you now have this option to get on an
- 23:49Speaker 7: app and really we'll live on your schedule as opposed
- 23:51Speaker 7: to you living on KRTS.
- 23:53Speaker 3: Talking with Sean Hill again from KRT, but they've alanced
- 23:56Speaker 3: showing five any line brought to you in part by
- 23:57Speaker 3: Jute for the best of security systems for both if
- 24:00Speaker 3: your homework business, talk to Jute j o O t
- 24:02Speaker 3: off Tay's valley visit protected by Jute dot Com. A
- 24:05Speaker 3: couple of texts here for you, says I'm not a
- 24:07Speaker 3: k r T rider. I have a friend who hires
- 24:09Speaker 3: for a food service job. They reject candidates if their
- 24:13Speaker 3: transportation is the bus unfortunate for those people. Can they
- 24:16Speaker 3: legally do that? I mean, I know you're not an attorney,
- 24:18Speaker 3: but neither am I.
- 24:19Speaker 7: But I don't. I don't think that's fair. For one.
- 24:22Speaker 3: Well, here here's what I want to bring that up,
- 24:24Speaker 3: because in a former life, in a past radio station,
- 24:27Speaker 3: I was one of the ones that did the hiring
- 24:29Speaker 3: of people, and one of my questions I always asked
- 24:32Speaker 3: them was do you have reliable transportation? Because radio, you know,
- 24:37Speaker 3: you gotta have you got to be there no matter what.
- 24:40Speaker 3: And I was told by our turning maybe it's a
- 24:43Speaker 3: question for you know, for for the Peytent folks. When
- 24:45Speaker 3: head back on the show again, I was told by
- 24:47Speaker 3: an attorney to stop saying that, to stop asking them
- 24:49Speaker 3: do you have reliable trade? I think it's a fair question,
- 24:52Speaker 3: but I was told in job interviews do not ask that.
- 24:54Speaker 3: But so, uh, I mean, that's that's kind of unfortunate.
- 24:57Speaker 3: If what this text you're saying is true.
- 24:59Speaker 7: Yeah, it's unfortunate. But look, it's another one of the
- 25:02Speaker 7: things that we take huge. We value the responsibility that
- 25:05Speaker 7: we have with the individuals who rely on us to
- 25:07Speaker 7: get them to work every single day. We don't take
- 25:10Speaker 7: that lightly. We have reached out to several different instances
- 25:13Speaker 7: of large, large employers in Kanawha County ng GK spark plugs.
- 25:18Speaker 7: For one, we started a test program to get our
- 25:22Speaker 7: route to actually go up there to the to the plant,
- 25:24Speaker 7: understanding that if there are employee employers who need help
- 25:28Speaker 7: with getting their employees to their locations, we're interested in
- 25:31Speaker 7: helping them out there when we can. And we will
- 25:33Speaker 7: look at it and see, hey, does this work, is
- 25:35Speaker 7: it being used or utilized, and is it you know,
- 25:38Speaker 7: fiscally responsible, And we'll continue to do that. But again,
- 25:42Speaker 7: what KRT and what public transit does for the economy
- 25:45Speaker 7: can't be understated. There are individuals, you know, if we
- 25:47Speaker 7: don't operate on a day, there's an impact to Kanawak
- 25:50Speaker 7: County and it's substantial.
- 25:52Speaker 3: So, and you had some struggles with the weather, I'm sure,
- 25:55Speaker 3: as did everybody talk.
- 25:56Speaker 7: About exactly exactly, so you know, when it gets under
- 25:59Speaker 7: twenty five degree. For one, we have a warming bus.
- 26:01Speaker 7: So this morning, if you go down to the city center,
- 26:03Speaker 7: we don't want people, you know, to experience those cold
- 26:05Speaker 7: temperatures outside, so that's one thing we do. But also,
- 26:08Speaker 7: you know, vehicle thirty five foot vehicles do really well
- 26:13Speaker 7: on snow, but there's not a vehicle you know, in
- 26:15Speaker 7: the world that does really well on ice. And that's
- 26:17Speaker 7: what we've experienced these last couple of storms, when the
- 26:19Speaker 7: temperatures are so low. We had to make that call.
- 26:23Speaker 7: A couple of days we didn't have service, which is
- 26:24Speaker 7: really strange for KRT to do that, but I stand
- 26:28Speaker 7: by that. We think it was a safe decision. We
- 26:30Speaker 7: have our supervisors to go out and they travel every
- 26:33Speaker 7: route and then they make a call back to the
- 26:34Speaker 7: dispatch of hey, is it safe for us to operate,
- 26:37Speaker 7: and if we don't feel like it is, we're not
- 26:38Speaker 7: going to put someone in harm. And we we understand
- 26:41Speaker 7: that if we're on the road, you know, that's a
- 26:43Speaker 7: that's a large object, you know, sliding around.
- 26:45Speaker 3: So we're going to as you said, the big bus
- 26:48Speaker 3: is generally speaking do well, but nothing does well on ice.
- 26:51Speaker 7: Exactly.
- 26:51Speaker 3: I see a lot more SUVs in ditches than I
- 26:54Speaker 3: exactly then I do regular cars sometimes because people think
- 26:57Speaker 3: that it's that they're invincible a follow up to the
- 27:00Speaker 3: text I had earlier when somebody asked about using smaller
- 27:03Speaker 3: buses they were they wanted me to throw in there
- 27:06Speaker 3: that they were referring to the after hours and eliminated
- 27:08Speaker 3: routes though.
- 27:09Speaker 7: Exactly yeah, and in a perfect world, and as we
- 27:12Speaker 7: ramp up the amount of employees and the amount of vehicles,
- 27:15Speaker 7: we have to make sure that we can complete those routes.
- 27:19Speaker 7: The big number we're looking at is is someone in
- 27:21Speaker 7: one of those three zones and currently it's just three
- 27:23Speaker 7: zones during the test, if they request a ride, what
- 27:25Speaker 7: is that percent completion percentage? Like they were able to
- 27:28Speaker 7: hit I need a ride, and it shows up on
- 27:30Speaker 7: their screen and we're right now we're hovering. I think
- 27:32Speaker 7: it's around eighty seven percent, which we're pretty happy with.
- 27:35Speaker 7: But we want to make sure that anytime we turn
- 27:36Speaker 7: on a new zone, we're able to maintain that level
- 27:39Speaker 7: of success. We want people to be able to count
- 27:41Speaker 7: on that service to work. That's what's important people. It's
- 27:43Speaker 7: great to know it's there, but it has to actually
- 27:45Speaker 7: work and get you from A to B. And we're
- 27:47Speaker 7: going to be cognizant of that, and we're going to
- 27:48Speaker 7: aim to have that service roll out in those areas
- 27:51Speaker 7: that we're most impacted by these schedule changes.
- 27:53Speaker 3: Talk to Sean Hill, the executive director of KRTV Dave

- 28:15Speaker 3: If Charleston wants to look and feel more like a
- 28:17Speaker 3: big city, we should be expanding public transportation, not slashing it.
- 28:21Speaker 3: Loss of the Sunday service and cutbacks on trolley routes
- 28:24Speaker 3: are especially devastating for many Charlestonians. I don't think that
- 28:27Speaker 3: that's something that goes unnoticed by your folks.
- 28:30Speaker 7: Yeah, that's we're cognitive that. I mean, we're we're obviously
- 28:33Speaker 7: huge fans of public transit. It's not exciting or fun
- 28:36Speaker 7: for us to embrace the realities of Hey, sometimes you
- 28:39Speaker 7: have to make tough decisions. What we're not going to do, though,
- 28:43Speaker 7: is put our head in the sand and just ignore
- 28:45Speaker 7: it until it becomes an even bigger problem for the
- 28:47Speaker 7: public when these routes have to, you know, change or
- 28:50Speaker 7: go away long term. The Charney is one of those
- 28:52Speaker 7: routes that's really important to us, and the service there
- 28:55Speaker 7: is actually is one of those routes that have expanded
- 28:58Speaker 7: a little bit. We are cognizant of the fact that
- 29:01Speaker 7: that's a big tourism thing and people really enjoy coming
- 29:03Speaker 7: down for that. We just wrapped up the Holly Jolly
- 29:05Speaker 7: Bradley trolley as part of our holiday season. We had
- 29:08Speaker 7: about three thousand people that use that service, and those
- 29:10Speaker 7: are individuals who probably don't ride the bus every.
- 29:12Speaker 3: Day, but they look part of the experience or the.
- 29:15Speaker 7: Experience they pay the safety levey hey once a year
- 29:17Speaker 7: they should be able to get on a bus and
- 29:18Speaker 7: ride around and see the lights, what.
- 29:20Speaker 3: Things, you know, Sean. One thing I think is interesting
- 29:22Speaker 3: we'll wrap up with this, is that a lot of
- 29:25Speaker 3: younger people. I mean when I turned sixteen, it was
- 29:28Speaker 3: like I'm looking at the calendar and thinking, when can
- 29:30Speaker 3: I get my driver's license? You know, the first available
- 29:33Speaker 3: I think it was Thursdays when they gave the test
- 29:36Speaker 3: back in you know, eighteen seventy three. When I got
- 29:38Speaker 3: a driver's license, I was like, I was thinking, I
- 29:41Speaker 3: got to get that driver's license. But we're seeing a
- 29:44Speaker 3: lot of younger people who it's not that big of
- 29:47Speaker 3: a deal for I mean people twenty twenty one years
- 29:50Speaker 3: old that don't have it drivers and it's and I
- 29:52Speaker 3: think it's just a cultural shift. And I say that
- 29:55Speaker 3: to say this that West Virginia has really put out
- 29:57Speaker 3: the nets trying to bring younger people in, especially now
- 30:01Speaker 3: that with remote work you can work from just about anywhere.
- 30:04Speaker 3: And a lot of people are choosing West Virginia because
- 30:06Speaker 3: they like the wilderness and they like the access to
- 30:10Speaker 3: you know, New River Gorge National Park and so on
- 30:12Speaker 3: and so forth. So have you seen an increase in
- 30:16Speaker 3: younger people that a thing?
- 30:17Speaker 7: Or yes? And so we have And so it's not
- 30:19Speaker 7: it's not just the culture. It's you know, be sixteen
- 30:22Speaker 7: years old and pay car insurance. That's that's not a
- 30:24Speaker 7: month sure, let's be honest there. So they're they're the costs.
- 30:27Speaker 7: There's there's the issues with that. We've seen, you know,
- 30:30Speaker 7: a real adoption. We've got partnerships with UC and with
- 30:33Speaker 7: West Virginia State and the amount of students there that
- 30:36Speaker 7: that make use of KRT is tremendous. We are seeing
- 30:40Speaker 7: them using the app, the kr T plus you know
- 30:43Speaker 7: they're going to generation it's easy for them. They get it. Hey,
- 30:45Speaker 7: if I can ride you know this many times a
- 30:47Speaker 7: month for this this amount of money compared to the
- 30:50Speaker 7: insurance and car and gas, it makes sense for them.
- 30:52Speaker 7: So we appreciate that. And they also they're they're great
- 30:55Speaker 7: at giving us feedback on what works and what's not
- 30:57Speaker 7: working with the app.
- 30:58Speaker 3: All right, so let's kind of recap your So the
- 31:00Speaker 3: changes are going to take place February the ninth, ninth, Yes,
- 31:04Speaker 3: February ninth, and so the Sunday service will be eliminated.
- 31:09Speaker 3: Is there a possibility that at some point if, as
- 31:11Speaker 3: you said, you look at the numbers and you think, well,
- 31:13Speaker 3: maybe we could possibly bring this back.
- 31:15Speaker 7: Sure, I would never say never. We're going to learn
- 31:17Speaker 7: from what works and what doesn't work. I think again,
- 31:19Speaker 7: our board, my board has proven that they're going to listen.
- 31:22Speaker 7: So February ninth, Sunday service will go away February tenth.

- 35:46Speaker 3: was told by an attorney when I was in a
- 35:48Speaker 3: hiring position, do not ask about reliable transportation. And in
- 35:51Speaker 3: a radio business, that's kind of important. But I was
- 35:53Speaker 3: told ten more like fifteen years ago when I was
- 35:57Speaker 3: interviewing young youngsters to become I'm on the air with
- 36:01Speaker 3: the station that I was a part of at that time,
- 36:03Speaker 3: we were told do not ask the libel trance.

- 36:48Speaker 3: That's gonna be any of us that are going, we
- 36:50Speaker 3: may want to, we may want to carpool or maybe
- 36:52Speaker 3: reach out to KRT and maybe maybe we'll just ride
- 36:55Speaker 3: over there because it's it's gonna be, uh, it's gonna
- 36:57Speaker 3: be quite quite busy at the Coddleseum of Conventions.
- 37:00Speaker 5: And I guess we should have a warm bus that
- 37:01Speaker 5: we that we launched from here, you know in nineteen
- 37:04Speaker 5: ninety nine for Roder or something like that.
- 37:05Speaker 3: Right, So, Jeff, I know you. I wanted you guys
- 37:08Speaker 3: in here because next to Brian Bradley, you're the two
- 37:10Speaker 3: biggest Rats fans along with me, of these Reds caravans. Man,
- 37:14Speaker 3: they're they're they're awesome. And I'm glad Charleston because they've
- 37:16Speaker 3: eliminated some stops. I'm so glad, Jeff to Charleston is
- 37:20Speaker 3: still part of their part of their schedule.
- 37:21Speaker 6: Well, if they you know, they're based on last year,
- 37:23Speaker 6: if they do, because it was well attended last year
- 37:27Speaker 6: at the Civic Center College. Team's going to be a
- 37:29Speaker 6: little different location there, so they're moving into what they
- 37:32Speaker 6: called the Theater, but we kind of noticed a little theater,
- 37:35Speaker 6: you know, and so I think they've changed the name
- 37:36Speaker 6: of that. But that's that's where it's going to be.
- 37:38Speaker 6: And the Civic Center did a great job last year
- 37:40Speaker 6: with it. Uh, And there was a really big crowd.
- 37:44Speaker 5: Uh.
- 37:44Speaker 3: And how mean people you think were there last year? Jeff?
- 37:46Speaker 5: A couple hundred, I mean maybe up to three maybe
- 37:50Speaker 5: it was it was just hundreds. It was a lot,
- 37:51Speaker 5: it was, but I think it was the best attended
- 37:53Speaker 5: one that we've had in a while.
- 37:54Speaker 7: Anyway.
- 37:55Speaker 6: Yeah, and there's some excitement coming off the twenty twenty
- 37:58Speaker 6: three year last he wasn't as good for the Reds,
- 38:02Speaker 6: but they've hired a new manager, Terry Francona, and so
- 38:05Speaker 6: there's you know, and they still got young players, so
- 38:08Speaker 6: I think, you know, I think there'll be another good
- 38:10Speaker 6: crowd there tomorrow. I know whether it's going to be good.
- 38:12Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, it should be.
- 38:12Speaker 5: It should be nice to get by, and we're getting
- 38:15Speaker 5: a couple of folks here this time. Carson Spears is
- 38:17Speaker 5: probably the name that most people will recognize. He had
- 38:19Speaker 5: a nice site. He had a fomin eight record with
- 38:21Speaker 5: the Reds last year and pitched one hundred and innings,
- 38:23Speaker 5: so people know who Carson Spears is. Blake Dunn got
- 38:25Speaker 5: a cup of coffee with the with the team as well.
- 38:28Speaker 5: I didn't play a whole lot, but he's figured to
- 38:30Speaker 5: be in part of the future, may make the roster
- 38:32Speaker 5: this season. And then Sal Stewart, Jose Franco and Gapper
- 38:35Speaker 5: will be there as well. Gapper, of course is the
- 38:37Speaker 5: not a player, but one of the mascots. And then
- 38:39Speaker 5: Jeremy Ferrell, who's the senior director of player development, will
- 38:42Speaker 5: be by as well. One thing I wanted to that
- 38:44Speaker 5: I missed in the first press release is they're giving
- 38:47Speaker 5: away at every stop. They're giving away tickets to opening
- 38:50Speaker 5: Day this year. So what we against against the Giants
- 38:55Speaker 5: is when the is for when the giveaway is going
- 38:57Speaker 5: to be And what's interesting, or at least I guess
- 39:00Speaker 5: I'm what's centergistic is the sponsor of the caravan for
- 39:02Speaker 5: the Reds this year is Cincinnati Children's which is in
- 39:05Speaker 5: the same network as the w Children's for the Miracle Network,
- 39:09Speaker 5: So that's kind of interesting that they're being part of that.
- 39:11Speaker 5: But that's going to be tomorrow. It's going to start.
- 39:13Speaker 5: You probably want to get there about five. I would
- 39:15Speaker 5: say the event starts at five thirty. Jeff's done this
- 39:19Speaker 5: for years, He's done this a long time. So once
- 39:22Speaker 5: they queue up and start doing the Q and A
- 39:24Speaker 5: and stuff, it moves pretty quick. I mean, you do
- 39:26Speaker 5: the Q and A, you get right to the autographs,
- 39:28Speaker 5: and if you're there with some stuff to get signed,
- 39:30Speaker 5: you're probably going to get it signed.
- 39:31Speaker 6: Yeah, oh yeah, yeah, they don't. There's only one year
- 39:34Speaker 6: that I remember that there were so many people there
- 39:37Speaker 6: that they had to put a person at the end
- 39:39Speaker 6: of the line, one of their people who was volunteering
- 39:42Speaker 6: or working for them, and just said the line ins here.
- 39:44Speaker 6: But then Brandon Phillips, who is a popular red he
- 39:47Speaker 6: was on that particular stop and he went back and
- 39:49Speaker 6: signed everybody see stopping. Yeah, he signed up every bay
- 39:52Speaker 6: stuff afterwards. So basically, what they'll do if you come,
- 39:54Speaker 6: what they'll do is they'll get there, they'll do some
- 39:57Speaker 6: media interviews, then they'll have a Q and A on
- 39:59Speaker 6: the age of the players. They'll you know, they'll be
- 40:04Speaker 6: introduced and then they'll take questions from the audience and
- 40:07Speaker 6: they'll take and then they then they sit down and
- 40:10Speaker 6: people come by and they and they sign things and
- 40:13Speaker 6: you can, they keep it moving pretty quickly. And what
- 40:15Speaker 6: we do, what they've given us access to do over
- 40:17Speaker 6: the years, which is really cool, is that after, you know,
- 40:20Speaker 6: when once people start making their way through the line
- 40:23Speaker 6: to sign the autograph with their things to get autographed,
- 40:26Speaker 6: is that we just, uh, we interview the people that
- 40:30Speaker 6: are there. I mean, we interview the players and they
- 40:33Speaker 6: slide down to us as they're still signing, and so
- 40:36Speaker 6: we're basically at the end of the line of the
- 40:37Speaker 6: signing line, and they and the players just alternate and
- 40:40Speaker 6: they come down and they answer our questions. We do
- 40:42Speaker 6: a live broadcast and as they're signing autographs, and we've
- 40:45Speaker 6: i mean, we've had over the years, man, we've had
- 40:47Speaker 6: a lot of young players who turned into Red Stars.
- 40:51Speaker 3: You know.
- 40:52Speaker 6: Coop mentioned Sal Stewart, he's the number three prospect in
- 40:55Speaker 6: the Reds organization. He was here last year too, so
- 40:58Speaker 6: he makes a second straight trip to Charles and which
- 41:00Speaker 6: is kind of cool. So we'll talk about him. We'll
- 41:02Speaker 6: talk to him, and he's an up and coming third baseman,
- 41:06Speaker 6: power hitter, had a good year last year, so we'll
- 41:09Speaker 6: talk about him, talk with him about his development and
- 41:12Speaker 6: so that'll be exciting. And Carson Spears, who will talk
- 41:15Speaker 6: about the rotation and his opportunity to pitch. You always
- 41:18Speaker 6: need more than your original five pitchers, and he really
- 41:20Speaker 6: came on at the end of the year, had a
- 41:22Speaker 6: really good stretch around for the Reds right handed pitcher,
- 41:25Speaker 6: and so it'd be good to meet him tomorrow night
- 41:27Speaker 6: and everybody just talk a little baseball.
- 41:29Speaker 5: Yeah, And for Reds fans, I think this year you're
- 41:33Speaker 5: going to be in the same boat that you've been
- 41:34Speaker 5: in recent past as far as the Reds on other
- 41:37Speaker 5: media other than radio. When the visual media, I don't
- 41:40Speaker 5: know that you're gonna be able to find it as
- 41:41Speaker 5: easily this year as what it should be. So this
- 41:44Speaker 5: is your home for the Reds. Is where you'll be
- 41:45Speaker 5: able to listen to all that has been for a
- 41:47Speaker 5: long time, has been for a long time, and it
- 41:48Speaker 5: might be your only outlet right now other than the
- 41:50Speaker 5: National Games. And hey, if you want to stay up
- 41:53Speaker 5: to date on the guys like Elie de la Cruz,
- 41:55Speaker 5: see what happens when Matt McLean comes back, and see
- 41:56Speaker 5: if the Reds can put it back together and maybe
- 41:58Speaker 5: make a playoff run.
- 42:00Speaker 7: This is the place you want to hear it from.
- 42:01Speaker 6: Yeah, And it's always good to connect with listeners. We've
- 42:03Speaker 6: people who come out to this. Are you get kids,
- 42:06Speaker 6: you get, you get And it's our listeners too. It's
- 42:09Speaker 6: five any WC. It's just listeners definitely, and so we
- 42:12Speaker 6: like to you know, it's great to meet up with
- 42:14Speaker 6: them again and and uh, you know, be able to
- 42:16Speaker 6: talk some baseball. And the Reds have always been really
- 42:19Speaker 6: great about this too, about getting on the air and uh,
- 42:23Speaker 6: you know, willing to talk, willing to share fans and
- 42:25Speaker 6: they're always just really impressed about Charleston's turnout and so
- 42:29Speaker 6: we don't want to disappoint be there tomorrow night.
- 42:31Speaker 3: And that's one of the things I like about baseball too.
- 42:34Speaker 3: I don't think that I'm a I'm a football guy.
- 42:36Speaker 3: Football one baseball too, But I will tell you there,
- 42:39Speaker 3: I don't know, I think there's any other sport that
- 42:41Speaker 3: does anything similar to this. I mean, you don't and
- 42:44Speaker 3: I'm the NFL rosters have like fifty five or sixty
- 42:46Speaker 3: players on them now. But I mean, you don't see
- 42:48Speaker 3: this in basketball. You don't see the you know, the
- 42:50Speaker 3: Lakers Caravans. I don't think this is something that and
- 42:53Speaker 3: most of the major league teams do similar type things
- 42:56Speaker 3: where they where a barnstorm man and they go out
- 42:58Speaker 3: to these areas. And the Reds have such a regional following, yes,
- 43:02Speaker 3: you know, I mean they're huge in Indiana, they're huge
- 43:06Speaker 3: in the Virginia and Tennessee, and of course you're in
- 43:07Speaker 3: watch Virginia, Kentucky and obviously in Ohio. So things start
- 43:11Speaker 3: tomorrow night.
- 43:12Speaker 6: Ats five thirty, and you know, usually that's five thirty.
- 43:16Speaker 6: They'll usually get there right around five thirty. They'll do
- 43:18Speaker 6: some media interviews and then so their signing probably won't
- 43:21Speaker 6: start until some time after six usually, but they move
- 43:25Speaker 6: them through like pretty quickly.
- 43:26Speaker 3: Yeah. It's it's a science way that they do it.
- 43:28Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 43:29Speaker 5: Yeah, And we'll get it up on we'll get it
- 43:30Speaker 5: up on air pretty Uh, we'll get it up on
- 43:31Speaker 5: air right at six o'clock.
- 43:32Speaker 6: And usually they have a representatve from their Hall of
- 43:34Speaker 6: Fame there, they have other reps who kind of travel.
- 43:37Speaker 5: In fact, they had a traveling Hall of Fame last year.
- 43:39Speaker 5: If I remember, you could actually see some limited I
- 43:42Speaker 5: don't know if they'll have that this year or not.
- 43:43Speaker 5: It wasn't in the press release, so it may not
- 43:44Speaker 5: be there.
- 43:45Speaker 6: Yeah, but there'll be Reds people. You can talk about
- 43:47Speaker 6: the Reds obviously with a lot of people that are there,
- 43:49Speaker 6: so it'd be an exciting evening.
- 43:51Speaker 3: All right, Well, we'll look forward to it and hope
- 43:53Speaker 3: Spring's eternal. This is the year for the Red Machine,
- 43:56Speaker 3: right guys, right right, right, Sure.

- 47:28Speaker 3: over there for that tomorrow, so come out and hang
- 47:30Speaker 3: out with us. The Colosseum Convention Center. Tech says, I
- 47:33Speaker 3: remember it as a kid beating in the car and my
- 47:36Speaker 3: dad had the Reds game and hearing and this one
- 47:38Speaker 3: belongs to the Reds love Marty and Joe. I will
- 47:41Speaker 3: have to say I don't play much of a fanboy
- 47:45Speaker 3: when it comes to meeting celebrities because I have met
- 47:47Speaker 3: a ton of them and I'm just kind of like, yeah, Okay,
- 47:49Speaker 3: they meet him, it's fine. But doing a Red's caravan
- 47:52Speaker 3: years ago at another radio station when Marty Brenneman came in,
- 47:56Speaker 3: I never asked for my picture to be taken with
- 47:59Speaker 3: any Reds player, any manager, or whatever, except for Marty Brannaman.
- 48:03Speaker 3: That's the guy that I wanted to meet, and I
- 48:05Speaker 3: went all fanboy over Marty Branneman. Texas Great American Ballpark
- 48:10Speaker 3: is nice, but Riverfront Stadium was the best, says a Texter. Texays,
- 48:15Speaker 3: how about the Shells Shelley saying it's time to move
- 48:18Speaker 3: on from Trump, Partney the J six police assaulters. I
- 48:20Speaker 3: think she's scared of being primaried. She's got opposition already
- 48:24Speaker 3: in the primary if she doesn't go along with Trump's orders.
- 48:28Speaker 3: Chilly Capito worked all these years to get the Senate
- 48:31Speaker 3: to get to this and only to relinquish her influence
- 48:33Speaker 3: and become a rubber stamp. I guess I can understand
- 48:36Speaker 3: those She needs the public office to keep increasing her
- 48:39Speaker 3: private wealth, says a Texture Texas, Dave, I think we've
- 48:43Speaker 3: entited an era where things being fair for the worker
- 48:46Speaker 3: no longer exists. Texays Dave, you haven't heard remote work
- 48:50Speaker 3: is going the way of the dinosaurs. Those areas of
- 48:52Speaker 3: West Virginia experiencing a little boost from remote work, Well,
- 48:55Speaker 3: they better find another basket for their eggs. President MacDonald
- 48:58Speaker 3: Trump and his only art you want their laborers back
- 49:01Speaker 3: in office? As a Texter, tex says Dave. Have you
- 49:04Speaker 3: ever seen a president work so quickly to fulfill his
- 49:06Speaker 3: promises to the American people? This is how a president
- 49:09Speaker 3: should work for all of us. Thank you, President Trump.
- 49:13Speaker 3: Speaking of Shelley Moore Capito, she was on talk Line
- 49:15Speaker 3: yesterday with TJ. Meadows and Dave Wilson. Interesting conversation. If
- 49:18Speaker 3: you get an opportunity to go back and listen to
- 49:20Speaker 3: a couple of things. One thing. She said, she is
- 49:24Speaker 3: unconvinced that the executive order issued by President Trump will
- 49:27Speaker 3: stand up in court, the one about birthright. Twenty two
- 49:32Speaker 3: states have sued. They announced it shortly after the eos
- 49:37Speaker 3: went out that they would be suing. In fact, the
- 49:39Speaker 3: first case is doing court in Seattle today. It'll probably
- 49:43Speaker 3: end up in the Supreme Court. Also, as the texture
- 49:46Speaker 3: previous sexture reference, Senatra Cappado kind of alluded to the
- 49:52Speaker 3: fact that she wasn't she didn't know that President Trump
- 49:55Speaker 3: was going to be issuing blank pardons to the j
- 49:58Speaker 3: six offenders. Interesting story. Go back and listen to the
- 50:00Speaker 3: interview with Senator Capitot. Read the story that Brad did
- 50:03Speaker 3: at wv metro News dot com. And on another note,
- 50:06Speaker 3: Hoppy Kerchieval back on talkline today, please go read his commentary.
- 50:12Speaker 3: It's it's on the website. I heard it on my
- 50:14Speaker 3: drive end this morning. The title of the commentary is
- 50:17Speaker 3: Trump's erosion of the rule of law, which should kind
- 50:20Speaker 3: of tell you what direction that the goat decided to
- 50:24Speaker 3: go in this morning. It's it's must read material. It's
- 50:28Speaker 3: available w at wv Metronews dot com. Go check it
- 50:32Speaker 3: out at Dave Island showing five eighty Live, brought to
- 50:34Speaker 3: you in part by your hometown baseball team, the Charleston
- 50:37Speaker 3: Dirty Birds. Before you know it, we're gonna be playing
- 50:39Speaker 3: baseball at go mart Ballpark. Check out the twenty twenty
- 50:41Speaker 3: five Birds schedule, Birds merchandise some more at dirtybirds baseball
- 50:45Speaker 3: dot com. Text says, when Marty came with the Reds
- 50:48Speaker 3: caravan five years ago, I only wanted one autograph on
- 50:51Speaker 3: my Red's hat. Marty obliged, and I thanked him for
- 50:54Speaker 3: all those broadcasts I listened to on five eighty driving
- 50:57Speaker 3: home after Power Games Extra, TJ Meadows. You a big
- 51:01Speaker 3: baseball guy.
- 51:02Speaker 15: TJ love the Reds. Grew up on the Reds, was
- 51:04Speaker 15: raised a Reds fan.
- 51:05Speaker 3: Absolutely, Okay, it's kind of it's in And I've noticed
- 51:08Speaker 3: that in southern West Virginia we tend to gravitate more
- 51:11Speaker 3: toward the Reds. North northern West Virginia it tends to
- 51:14Speaker 3: be more more pirates. They like the bucks up that way.
- 51:16Speaker 3: It's understandable. It's kind of the local, local team. What
- 51:19Speaker 3: do you got on talk line today?
- 51:20Speaker 15: By so as you said, the Dean is going to
- 51:21Speaker 15: stop by, and that question, Dave, look it's or that
- 51:24Speaker 15: thought that he expressed about the rule of law. It's
- 51:26Speaker 15: a debate that needs to be had and we need
- 51:29Speaker 15: to talk about and Trump is doing that. He is
- 51:32Speaker 15: violating the rule of law. I tend to agree with
- 51:34Speaker 15: the Dean on that, but we'll get into it and
- 51:36Speaker 15: talk with him. Former US Attorney Elonfeld Bill Ellenfeld joins us,
- 51:41Speaker 15: coming up at ten thirty. We'll talk about his tenure
- 51:43Speaker 15: in the office. Brad at ten o six, the governor
- 51:45Speaker 15: has a presser today talking about the economy again. But
- 51:49Speaker 15: I have a feeling budget is going to come up.
- 51:51Speaker 15: You know, people are saying, hey, what's going on? And
- 51:53Speaker 15: now the latest to kind of scratch the head is
- 51:54Speaker 15: House Speaker Roger Hanshaw, So we'll get into that as well.
- 51:58Speaker 15: Jeff Jenkins stops by at a twenty three. We're going
- 52:01Speaker 15: to talk about the trials that are ongoing. But here's
- 52:03Speaker 15: a big one. A columnist for the Richmond Times, Jeff Shapiro,
- 52:07Speaker 15: says that we should get back together with Virginia, rekindle
- 52:11Speaker 15: the marriage, and he's making a case for Governor Younkin
- 52:15Speaker 15: to take us over for lack of a better description,
- 52:19Speaker 15: So we'll we'll talk with him and find out what's
- 52:21Speaker 15: rolling around in that head of his and probably telling
- 52:23Speaker 15: me he's crazy.
- 52:24Speaker 3: All right, it should be interesting. I don't know how
- 52:26Speaker 3: I feel about that. I know how I feel about it. No, yeah, exactly.
- 52:30Speaker 3: We got it right in eighteen sixty three, and I'm
- 52:32Speaker 3: completely I'm completely good with that. Going on tomorrow's show,
- 52:35Speaker 3: Hannah Gardner from a Canal Charleston Newmain Association, more on
- 52:37Speaker 3: the Hunting and Fishing Show, and Steven Keith, the Food
