- 0:23Speaker 2: Good morning to you, Tim, How are you?
- 0:25Speaker 3: I'm wonderful, Katie, great.
- 0:27Speaker 2: To have you in the studio. And then of course
- 0:28Speaker 2: I have got Samson. How are you? Samson? I'm going well,
- 0:31Speaker 2: thank you, that's good. And then I've got Sianna how
- 0:34Speaker 2: are you?
- 0:34Speaker 4: Good things?
- 0:35Speaker 2: And Tamson how are you? I'm good, thank you. It
- 0:38Speaker 2: is wonderful to have you all in the studio now.
- 0:40Speaker 1: Obviously great to have Tim in here to tell us
- 0:42Speaker 1: exactly what's on on the weekend, but to have these
- 0:45Speaker 1: three very talented young Darwin swimmers I think is absolutely fantastic.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Tim firstly, tell us a little bit about the carnival
- 0:53Speaker 1: on the weekend. The NT Championships will actually start ASAVO.
- 0:56Speaker 3: Yes, it starts this afternoon, gates open four o'clock Arapool.
- 1:01Speaker 3: It will run all the way through till Sunday, so
- 1:03Speaker 3: there are seven sessions throughout the weekend. It's the territory
- 1:07Speaker 3: state championship, so it's our largest meet of the season YEP.
- 1:12Speaker 3: And it's one of the last opportunities for the local
- 1:14Speaker 3: guys here to qualify for national championship events.
- 1:18Speaker 1: And are we expecting kids or you know, young people
- 1:21Speaker 1: from all around the Northern Territory to be here, any
- 1:24Speaker 1: coming from interstate?
- 1:25Speaker 3: Yeah, We've got a couple kids come up from Geelong YEP,
- 1:28Speaker 3: from Trinity over in Queensland and from Young So we've
- 1:31Speaker 3: got three visiting clubs this year. And we've got swimmers
- 1:34Speaker 3: from Catherine Alice Springs, a couple from Cannon Nara who
- 1:37Speaker 3: are linked with Catherine Club who are all coming. So
- 1:40Speaker 3: I think there's about one hundred and sixty swimmers all
- 1:42Speaker 3: together for the weekend.
- 1:43Speaker 2: Wonderful stuff. I always think it's fantastic. It's a huge weekend.
- 1:47Speaker 1: I know it's a huge weekend for you guys who
- 1:49Speaker 1: are swimming, particularly if you asked all waiting to qualify
- 1:52Speaker 1: for one of those national events.
- 1:54Speaker 2: Samson, you are you're a freestyler and also a medley.
- 1:57Speaker 1: Or I am swimmer? What are what should we be
- 2:00Speaker 1: looking out for for you for this weekend? Any qualifying
- 2:03Speaker 1: times that you need to do for the Nationals?
- 2:06Speaker 4: Well, I am actually looking for a qualifying time for
- 2:09Speaker 4: the one hundred meters breaststroke on Sunday. I am looking
- 2:13Speaker 4: forward to it. Yeah, and it should be good. Yeah,
- 2:18Speaker 4: it should be yeah.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Now make have you traveled away for the nationals already?
- 2:21Speaker 1: Or will this be your first first Nationals carnival? If
- 2:24Speaker 1: you do get all those qualifying times that innate.
- 2:28Speaker 4: This will be my first ever national events. But I
- 2:30Speaker 4: have gone into state before. I have gone to Broom
- 2:34Speaker 4: Kimberly Shorwcrosse Championships in Wa, SA Country champs in Essay
- 2:40Speaker 4: and Queensland State Championships.
- 2:42Speaker 2: Wonderful, wonderful stuff.
- 2:44Speaker 1: Well, we'll be keeping an eye out this weekend and
- 2:46Speaker 1: I hope you get all those qualifying times. Now, girls, Sianna,
- 2:49Speaker 1: what are you? What are you focusing on this weekend?
- 2:54Speaker 2: Mainly my one hundred best show fifty flight.
- 2:58Speaker 1: And you've already qualified, haven't you for the Nationals? And
- 3:03Speaker 1: have you also qualified for the World Championship trials as well?
- 3:08Speaker 4: Yes?
- 3:09Speaker 2: Wow? So when are they on at the same time?
- 3:12Speaker 1: Which is in May, and you must be pretty excited
- 3:15Speaker 1: to you know, to get to that to that level
- 3:18Speaker 1: and to then you know, potentially be racing against these
- 3:21Speaker 1: people that are heading off to.
- 3:22Speaker 2: All sorts of different meats around the nation and the
- 3:24Speaker 2: around the world. It's very exciting.
- 3:27Speaker 1: Yeah, it will be. And now terms and what about you?
- 3:29Speaker 1: Are you in the same boat as well? Have you
- 3:31Speaker 1: qualified for both of those ones?
- 3:33Speaker 2: Not for not yet? Not yet? Are you hoping to
- 3:36Speaker 2: this weekend?
- 3:37Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 3:38Speaker 1: It must be exciting though for both of you to
- 3:40Speaker 1: travel as well together as sisters and be able to
- 3:42Speaker 1: you know, to travel around the nation, get to go
- 3:44Speaker 1: to those different carnivals together, and to be.
- 3:47Speaker 2: Doing what you really enjoy it is.
- 3:49Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Yeah, I think it's wonderful for anyone out there listening
- 3:53Speaker 1: this morning who doesn't know My daughter, definite will my
- 3:55Speaker 1: daughter and son both Swimoth and darw and swimming Club.
- 3:58Speaker 1: And one of the things that I love about the
- 3:59Speaker 1: swim in Club is the fact that you kids that
- 4:02Speaker 1: you're all you know, well you're not kids anymore seventeen,
- 4:06Speaker 1: but that you actually coach those younger children as well.
- 4:09Speaker 2: I think it's a really wonderful thing.
- 4:11Speaker 1: For our younger kids to see you as role models
- 4:14Speaker 1: and to see the way that you're there swimming and
- 4:16Speaker 1: qualifying for such huge events, but then also coaching them
- 4:20Speaker 1: throughout the afternoons. And I think that that's a really
- 4:22Speaker 1: nice thing to do in something that's really wonderful, Tim, that.
- 4:25Speaker 2: You do as the head coach.
- 4:28Speaker 1: It's great to see so many swimmers each and every
- 4:31Speaker 1: afternoon at the pool there in Parrap. You've got enormous
- 4:34Speaker 1: numbers really when it comes to the darw And Swimming Club,
- 4:37Speaker 1: don't you. Yeah.
- 4:38Speaker 3: I think currently our membership base is sitting out two
- 4:40Speaker 3: hundred and fifty odd members. Yeah, so that's swimmers parents,
- 4:43Speaker 3: so swimmers from I think our youngest is maybe five
- 4:46Speaker 3: or six, all the way up to have our oldest
- 4:52Speaker 3: an idea, but we've got adults who in the water
- 4:55Speaker 3: swimming alongside their own children, some of them or a Tim, did.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Are you talking about me? You haven't got in any
- 5:03Speaker 2: other squads yet? I don't think you would allow you to,
- 5:06Speaker 2: I don't think.
- 5:07Speaker 3: But we've got a range of different squads offered, all
- 5:10Speaker 3: just based on ability and really the folks of what
- 5:12Speaker 3: the kids are after, whether they're just after fitness or
- 5:15Speaker 3: actually after trying to get some form of success in
- 5:18Speaker 3: the sport.
- 5:18Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 5:19Speaker 1: Well, and what some people may not realize, and you
- 5:21Speaker 1: probably won't want me to say on air, but you
- 5:22Speaker 1: were also the Northern Territories Coach of the Year last year,
- 5:26Speaker 1: and so I think it's great great to see that
- 5:29Speaker 1: swimming's got that real focus. And that's why I wanted
- 5:31Speaker 1: you all to come in today as well, because I
- 5:33Speaker 1: think swimming is a fantastic sport, but I think it's
- 5:35Speaker 1: also great to see our young people out there active,
- 5:39Speaker 1: being great role models for the rest of the community
- 5:41Speaker 1: as well. So this weekend should be a good weekend
- 5:45Speaker 1: or a good afternoon the SAVO and then the.
- 5:47Speaker 2: Rest of the days, I better make sure I actually
- 5:49Speaker 2: turn up on time. Tim on that parent really good
- 5:53Speaker 2: luck to all of you. Tim.
- 5:55Speaker 1: Just a reminder for everybody if the public want to
- 5:57Speaker 1: hit out and watch some of that action, some of
- 5:59Speaker 1: the swimming actions and can they do.
- 6:00Speaker 3: That, Yeah, they can either go down to the pool
- 6:03Speaker 3: itself or that it's also going to be live stream
- 6:06Speaker 3: through swim TV, So just google swim TV find the
- 6:10Speaker 3: Anti Championships. I think it's a six dollars fee to
- 6:12Speaker 3: register for the entire event, and that's everything's live stream.
- 6:16Speaker 1: And really this is the Northern Territory's biggest event when
- 6:19Speaker 1: it comes to swimming, isn't it. Yeah, yeah, now it
- 6:22Speaker 1: should be wonderful. Great to have you all in the
- 6:23Speaker 1: studio this morning and all the best.
- 6:26Speaker 2: Thank you, thank you,
