- 0:00Speaker 1: Toby and Chili mornings on demand on 97.1 Wash FM.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Friday morning in the capital city of the free world.
- 0:08Speaker 2: You good? It's Friday morning, 97.1 Wash FM. Toby and
- 0:13Speaker 2: Chili in the morning. How can you not be feeling
- 0:16Speaker 2: good on a Friday morning? The week is almost behind us.
- 0:20Speaker 3: That's right.
- 0:20Speaker 2: Got the weekend straight ahead of us. The weather might
- 0:23Speaker 2: be a little iffy this weekend, but don't let that
- 0:25Speaker 2: steal your weekend sunshine, so to speak.
- 0:27Speaker 3: That's true.
- 0:29Speaker 2: It's paraphrasing an old 80s, early 2000s, late 90s song
- 0:33Speaker 2: by Lynn, Steal My Sunshine. You know what I'm saying?
- 0:36Speaker 2: Why are you feeling good this morning?
- 0:38Speaker 3: Well, if the weather holds out, and that's a big if,
- 0:40Speaker 3: for tomorrow morning at least. You know, we're going to
- 0:43Speaker 3: continue the whole fall festival and go up to Gaver Farm.
- 0:49Speaker 3: And remember last week, it was Thermont. This is Mount Airy.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Mount Airy.
- 0:53Speaker 3: Yeah, it's another one in Maryland.
- 0:55Speaker 2: Whenever you say Mount Airy, I think of this place
- 0:57Speaker 2: in the Poconos called Beautiful Mount Airy Lodge.
- 1:00Speaker 3: Oh, interesting.
- 1:01Speaker 2: They turned it into a casino. It used to be
- 1:06Speaker 2: like a really romantic place back in the day where
- 1:09Speaker 2: you wanted to go. Beautiful Mount Airy Lodge. And then
- 1:12Speaker 2: now it's a casino. And, you know, you have penny slots.
- 1:15Speaker 2: And my dad has lost his pennies there.
- 1:18Speaker 3: Okay. Well, why are you feeling good? Besides the fact
- 1:20Speaker 3: that it is a Friday.
- 1:20Speaker 2: I'm feeling good because it's Friday and the agenda is
- 1:24Speaker 2: literally out the window. You know, when you can get
- 1:27Speaker 2: to a weekend and you can throw the agenda out
- 1:29Speaker 2: the window and do whatever you want to do in life,
- 1:33Speaker 2: I feel like there's something fulfilling about that where you
- 1:36Speaker 2: don't have any expectations. You don't have any, you know,
- 1:39Speaker 2: hard and set plans, significant others still traveling. It's like, okay,
- 1:44Speaker 2: this is going to be one of those weekends. And
- 1:47Speaker 2: It's cool because like, as I noticed that I'm starting
- 1:50Speaker 2: to heal more and more and I'm getting a little
- 1:52Speaker 2: more mobile, I kind of like to go try to
- 1:54Speaker 2: test it. So if the weather holds out, because I
- 1:57Speaker 2: don't need to be doing this in any kind of mud,
- 1:59Speaker 2: I think I want to go and just kind of like,
- 2:01Speaker 2: you know, take a mini hike around like the C &
- 2:04Speaker 2: O Canal Trail out along the Potomac on the Maryland
- 2:07Speaker 2: side just to do it, you know, just kind of
- 2:09Speaker 2: walk and Make sure that it's, you know, getting better.
- 2:12Speaker 2: And if it hurts, then I'll just get in the
- 2:14Speaker 2: car and come home. Chill out, you know? That's right.
- 2:16Speaker 2: But having nothing to do is not a bad thing.
- 2:20Speaker 2: There's solace and solitude at times. Find it. Anyway, that's
- 2:25Speaker 2: why we're feeling good. What about you? 866-927-4361. Top stories
- 2:30Speaker 2: at the top of the hour on the way. What's
- 2:31Speaker 2: going on?
- 2:32Speaker 3: DoorDash is testing a way to order without having to
- 2:36Speaker 3: open the app. And I'll tell you more about that
- 2:38Speaker 3: coming up in just a few minutes.
- 2:42Speaker 1: Top stories, top of the hour.
- 2:44Speaker 3: More U.S. forces are headed to the Middle East, reports
- 2:48Speaker 3: say a Marine Expeditionary Unit and the USS Theodore Roosevelt
- 2:53Speaker 3: are on their way, which would put three carriers in
- 2:56Speaker 3: the region. This all comes as the president tells Iran
- 2:59Speaker 3: to accept a fair deal or cease to exist. A D.C.
- 3:04Speaker 3: judge has permanently dismissed the vandalism case against former Olympic
- 3:08Speaker 3: canoeist David Hearn. Prosecutors acknowledge that the reflecting pool damage
- 3:12Speaker 3: was caused by a contractor's faulty installation and not vandalism.
- 3:18Speaker 3: Montgomery County police are investigating a deadly hit-and-run accident in
- 3:22Speaker 3: Aspen Hill. A Jeep Wrangler hit and killed a 62-year-old
- 3:26Speaker 3: woman as she was crossing the street Wednesday night. The
- 3:28Speaker 3: driver fled, but a witness gave police a plate number.
- 3:32Speaker 3: A former Hayfield secondary school principal is accused of using
- 3:35Speaker 3: nearly $ 8, 000 in school funds for personal travel and events.
- 3:40Speaker 3: Darren Thompson turned himself in this week on a felony
- 3:43Speaker 3: embezzlement charge. Montgomery County is adding traffic signals and pedestrian
- 3:49Speaker 3: beacons to improve safety. The new beacons are up on
- 3:52Speaker 3: Old Georgetown Road and Darnestown Road with signals added near
- 3:55Speaker 3: schools in Chevy Chase, Wheaton and Aspen Hill. And DoorDash
- 3:59Speaker 3: is testing a way to order without having to open
- 4:02Speaker 3: the app.
- 4:03Speaker 1: Just text it.
- 4:05Speaker 3: So now U.S. users can join a beta waitlist to
- 4:08Speaker 3: get recommendations, build a cart, and also check out by text.
- 4:12Speaker 3: And it will remember your usual orders and can even
- 4:15Speaker 3: suggest cheaper grocery swaps. Forecast today, going to feel like summer. Sunny, hot,
- 4:21Speaker 3: highs around 90. Right now it's 63 in Burtonsville.
- 4:25Speaker 2: And that's the news. Top stories at the top of
- 4:27Speaker 2: the hour. You get it here at 97.1 Wash FM.
- 4:30Speaker 2: Right around 10 past every hour when you get up
- 4:33Speaker 2: with Toby and Chili in the morning. It's 97.1 Wash FM.
- 4:36Speaker 2: Our Best of the 80s weekend starts later on today
- 4:38Speaker 2: at 5. And as such, there's a song with some
- 4:41Speaker 2: lyrics that might just inspire you this morning. Find out
- 4:47Speaker 2: what they are and what that song is. With your
- 4:50Speaker 2: morning mindset, it's on the way. On this Friday morning
- 4:55Speaker 2: at 97.1 Wash FM, Toby and Chili in the morning
- 4:58Speaker 2: time for your morning mindset here. If you don't know
- 5:02Speaker 2: what your morning mindset.
- 5:04Speaker 3: Is, that's when we find a quote and share it
- 5:06Speaker 3: with you to maybe inspire or motivate. And because it's
- 5:08Speaker 3: Friday and on Fridays at 5 p.m., we kick off
- 5:11Speaker 3: our best of the 80s and 90s weekend. You generally
- 5:13Speaker 3: find a lyric from a song from either the 80s
- 5:16Speaker 3: or 90s.
- 5:16Speaker 2: Back to 1988 for this one. Michael Jackson's Man in
- 5:21Speaker 2: the Mirror. You know, if you want to make the
- 5:24Speaker 2: world a better place, take a look at yourself and
- 5:26Speaker 2: make that change. Now, why does this mean something for
- 5:31Speaker 2: us on this Friday? Well, we've been kind of talking
- 5:34Speaker 2: all week about not being afraid to embrace change and
- 5:38Speaker 2: not being afraid to embrace the uncomfortability that may come
- 5:42Speaker 2: when you embrace change. Well, all of this matters because
- 5:46Speaker 2: real change doesn't start with just everybody else getting their
- 5:51Speaker 2: stuff together. It starts with you. You know, when you
- 5:54Speaker 2: look at yourself and you decide what you can change today,
- 5:57Speaker 2: and trust me, you can.
- 5:59Speaker 4: You can.
- 5:59Speaker 2: Just have to want to see it. So it's not
- 6:02Speaker 2: about everybody else. It's about you and the person you
- 6:05Speaker 2: see in the mirror. Michael Jackson from 1988. Man in
- 6:10Speaker 2: the mirror. If you want to make the world a
- 6:12Speaker 2: better place, take a look at yourself. Make that change.
- 6:16Speaker 2: That's right. And that's your morning mindset. With Toby and
- 6:22Speaker 2: Chili in the morning here on 97.1 Wash FM. Think
- 6:25Speaker 2: about it. You know MJ was right. Stay right there
- 6:29Speaker 2: because next.
- 6:30Speaker 3: Hey, would you like to run 31 miles? You know, 50K.
- 6:34Speaker 3: But you're eating tacos along the way.
- 6:36Speaker 2: Sounds like my kind of marathon.
- 6:38Speaker 3: Well, it's coming to D.C. We've got the details.
- 6:41Speaker 2: Attention, people of the Marathon Running Persuasion. We have some
- 6:45Speaker 2: information you'll want to take note of here at 97.1
- 6:48Speaker 2: Watch FM. Toby and Chili in the morning. This marathon
- 6:52Speaker 2: is coming to D.C.
- 6:55Speaker 3: It's the Taco Bell D.C. 50K.
- 6:58Speaker 4: Okay.
- 6:58Speaker 3: It's November 27th. Kicks off at 8 o'clock in the
- 7:01Speaker 3: morning at the Taco Bell on King Street in Old Town, Alexandria.
- 7:04Speaker 4: Yes.
- 7:04Speaker 3: But this is not like other marathons. These 31 miles,
- 7:07Speaker 3: you're running and eating tacos along the way. That's right.
- 7:10Speaker 2: You hit nine different Taco Bells. Alexandria, Arlington, D.C., And
- 7:15Speaker 2: you eat something at each one. You have 11 hours
- 7:18Speaker 2: to finish. And no Pepto and no other stomach-helping aids
- 7:23Speaker 2: are allowed to quell anything you might feel that gets
- 7:26Speaker 2: rumbly in the tummy.
- 7:27Speaker 3: Now, the run itself is free to enter. If you
- 7:30Speaker 3: want to sign up at TacoBellDC50k. com. But you still have
- 7:33Speaker 3: to pay for your food or whatever else you buy.
- 7:36Speaker 3: I don't know. Obviously, people have done this in the past.
- 7:39Speaker 3: This is not the only city that hosts this gimmick. Right.
- 7:43Speaker 3: I don't know how this is a good idea because
- 7:46Speaker 3: running and eating is bad enough. Running and eating Taco
- 7:50Speaker 3: Bell is a recipe for disaster.
- 7:53Speaker 2: And that's why, to kind of paraphrase the language of
- 7:56Speaker 2: professional wrestling and the carnies, this marathon is a shoot.
- 8:00Speaker 2: It really is. It's a shoot because Taco Bell is
- 8:03Speaker 2: bringing all of these people in to run this marathon
- 8:06Speaker 2: and it's going to have the last laugh.
- 8:08Speaker 3: I don't think they're a sponsor of this. I think
- 8:10Speaker 3: this is just something that the city sort of put together.
- 8:12Speaker 2: No but taco bell still going to have the last
- 8:14Speaker 2: laugh because we're not an official sponsor of it these taco.
- 8:17Speaker 3: Bell people are probably saying this is just the stomach
- 8:21Speaker 3: cramping alone will would kill somebody just.
- 8:24Speaker 2: Uh stay away from the pintos and cheese at taco
- 8:29Speaker 2: bell in fact probably custom make everything remove any kind
- 8:32Speaker 2: of refried beans from whatever and you should be good
- 8:35Speaker 2: to go um clean little quick energy with uh some
- 8:43Speaker 2: uh you know what you never know.
- 8:45Speaker 3: Hey if you're feeling adventurous by all means go and
- 8:49Speaker 3: and you can be proud that you complete.
- 8:55Speaker 2: And it's free, like she said, to enter. So, TacoBellDC50K. com.
- 9:01Speaker 2: It's 97.1 Wash FM. Toby and Chili in the morning.
- 9:05Speaker 2: We got the news, top stories at the top of
- 9:07Speaker 2: the hour coming up. What's good today, Chili?
- 9:09Speaker 3: You know, you can now get a college degree in
- 9:11Speaker 3: social media influencing at some universities. But do you consider
- 9:16Speaker 3: it a real career? I'm going to share you what
- 9:18Speaker 3: a recent survey found coming up in just a few minutes.
- 9:21Speaker 2: What you do in the morning of October 10th? You
- 9:23Speaker 2: want to join us at the wharf for a great cause?
- 9:26Speaker 2: Check this out. It's 97.1 Wash FM.
- 9:29Speaker 3: It's the Susan G. Komen More Than Pink Walk, Saturday,
- 9:32Speaker 3: October 10th at National Harbor, sponsored by Mattress Warehouse.
- 9:36Speaker 2: That's right. And if you want to be a part
- 9:37Speaker 2: of it, get to washfm.com slash pink. we're toby and
- 9:42Speaker 2: chili in the morning madonna.
- 9:44Speaker 1: 97.1 washfm washington an iheart radio station coming up on
- 9:50Speaker 1: top stories top of the hour a.
- 9:52Speaker 3: Dc judge permanently dismissed the vandalism case against former olympian
- 9:57Speaker 3: david hearn we've got the latest on that story and
- 10:00Speaker 3: others on the way with Toby and Chili in the
- 10:03Speaker 3: morning on 97.1 Wash FM.
- 10:09Speaker 1: Top stories, top of the hour.
- 10:11Speaker 3: A D.C. judge dismissed the case against former Olympian David
- 10:16Speaker 3: Hurd without prejudice yesterday. That means he can never be
- 10:19Speaker 3: charged for the crime again. He had been accused of
- 10:22Speaker 3: damaging the Lincoln Memorial reflecting pool. However, prosecutors later determined
- 10:27Speaker 3: that the contractors were to blame. You ever wonder where
- 10:31Speaker 3: Alexandria's license plate cameras are? Well, now you can.
- 10:34Speaker 2: Look it up.
- 10:34Speaker 3: The city just put out all 61 of its flock
- 10:37Speaker 3: cameras on a public map with clusters near 395 and
- 10:41Speaker 3: Van Dorn Street. However, the cameras that are owned by
- 10:44Speaker 3: private businesses are not on there. Metro is rolling out
- 10:48Speaker 3: new station signs and it's starting at L'Enfant Plaza and
- 10:52Speaker 3: some riders are kind of divided. So signs over the
- 10:55Speaker 3: tracks are no longer going to list the end of
- 10:57Speaker 3: line destinations. Riders will check electronic displays instead, which Metro
- 11:03Speaker 3: says is cheaper. And then after complaints, Metro decided to
- 11:06Speaker 3: keep the colored stripes on station pylons. Teachers at Lake
- 11:11Speaker 3: Braddock Secondary School say they shouldn't have to staff the
- 11:15Speaker 3: school's weapons detectors and they want trained security doing it instead.
- 11:20Speaker 3: Two have been reprimanded for refusing. The teachers union has
- 11:24Speaker 3: filed a grievance. and the school board will make the
- 11:27Speaker 3: final call. And some colleges, you know, are now offering
- 11:30Speaker 3: degrees in social media influencing, but only 30% of people
- 11:35Speaker 3: consider influencing a real career. A third of parents say
- 11:40Speaker 3: they would not want their child majoring in content creation,
- 11:44Speaker 3: although 43% say they'd support it. Forecast for today, sunny
- 11:48Speaker 3: and hot. Highs around 90 right now, 64 in Vienna.
- 11:52Speaker 2: Don't forget to get top stories at the top of
- 11:55Speaker 2: the hour here at 97.1 WASH FM. Toby and Chili,
- 11:58Speaker 2: in the morning, I've been very open about some of
- 11:59Speaker 2: the crazy, interesting dreams that I've had. I've also said
- 12:03Speaker 2: that I believe in the sanctity of these dreams. I
- 12:06Speaker 2: now see that Chili has experienced a very interesting dream
- 12:11Speaker 2: after watching something. So, it begs the question, what did
- 12:15Speaker 2: she watch and what made her go, hmm, in dreamland? And, P.S.,
- 12:19Speaker 2: what's the craziest dream you ever had? Want to tell
- 12:22Speaker 2: us about it now? Because we're listening at 866- 927-4361.
- 12:24Speaker 2: Call now. Get into the conversation. can mean other things,
- 12:42Speaker 2: deeper things about life and what you're going through. Toby
- 12:45Speaker 2: and Chili in the morning, it's 97.1 Wash FM. So, Chili,
- 12:48Speaker 2: what are you going through that you're having these vivid
- 12:51Speaker 2: dreams about?
- 12:53Speaker 3: Nothing, because it was from a TV show. This was
- 12:55Speaker 3: not about any deep meaning. It was because I was
- 12:57Speaker 3: watching the new show on Netflix, Wonka's The Golden Ticket. Oh, okay.
- 13:00Speaker 3: Have you heard about this?
- 13:01Speaker 2: No.
- 13:02Speaker 3: Yeah, so it's based on the movie, and they have
- 13:04Speaker 3: a bunch of contestants who are trying to win $ 3 million, but...
- 13:08Speaker 3: The set is absolutely insane. The colors. I mean, it's
- 13:13Speaker 3: like the movie come to life.
- 13:15Speaker 4: Right.
- 13:15Speaker 3: Candy everywhere. Chocolate. And after watching just one episode that night,
- 13:21Speaker 3: right before bed, when I dozed off, I was somehow
- 13:24Speaker 3: embedded in the Willy Wonka gimmick. And I'm like part
- 13:28Speaker 3: competing for the prize, part doing some squid game stuff.
- 13:32Speaker 3: Like it was the weirdest, craziest, unbelievable thing. And of course,
- 13:36Speaker 3: I woke up before I could win anything. Mm. But
- 13:38Speaker 3: while I was there, I could almost even smell how
- 13:42Speaker 3: beautiful it was inside.
- 13:45Speaker 2: Well, that's what that movie with Johnny Depp did, man.
- 13:48Speaker 2: It made you smell and see those colors. Let's go back.
- 13:52Speaker 3: To the original Gene Wilder version.
- 13:54Speaker 2: Oh, well, even then, too. He was like, well, hello.
- 13:57Speaker 3: He's also part of this movie with his voice. He's
- 14:00Speaker 3: kind of narrating a lot of this. It's very cool.
- 14:03Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:04Speaker 3: But yeah, that's why I had the crazy dream. It
- 14:06Speaker 3: wasn't like some deep meaning thing. It was because I
- 14:08Speaker 3: just watched something incredible on the screen.
- 14:10Speaker 2: Well, that happens. Life does influence dreams. It's very bizarre.
- 14:15Speaker 2: You say you've had some sort of interesting dream. Well,
- 14:18Speaker 2: you need to tell us about it. at 866-927-4361. That's
- 14:23Speaker 2: the number. Naomi from Bowie, thank you for calling us
- 14:25Speaker 2: to tell us about a dream you had. What did
- 14:27Speaker 2: you go through?
- 14:28Speaker 5: I was a kid in the dream and I was
- 14:31Speaker 5: playing kickball. They rolled the ball to me and I
- 14:34Speaker 5: ran up and I kicked the ball and I started
- 14:36Speaker 5: running and I ran so fast that I turned into
- 14:40Speaker 5: a rocket and then I just like flew up into
- 14:42Speaker 5: the sky.
- 14:43Speaker 3: So you never got a cross home plate?
- 14:46Speaker 1: No.
- 14:48Speaker 2: That's an interesting dream, Naomi.
- 14:50Speaker 3: Oh, goodness gracious. I love it.
- 14:52Speaker 5: It was so vivid.
- 14:53Speaker 2: So vivid you can still feel the wind rushing on
- 14:56Speaker 2: your face as you lift it off from Mars. Thank you, Naomi.
- 15:00Speaker 2: What a dream. It's 97.1. Watch FM at 866-927-4361. What
- 15:05Speaker 2: was the craziest dream you've had? Could be recently. Could
- 15:09Speaker 2: be sometime in the past. Tell us all about it now.
- 15:12Speaker 2: We're talking this morning at 97.1. Watch FM. Dreams. The
- 15:17Speaker 2: craziest ones you've ever had. 866-927-4361. We're talking about it
- 15:23Speaker 2: with Toby and Tilly in the morning at 97.1 Watch
- 15:26Speaker 2: FM because you had this very vivid dream.
- 15:30Speaker 3: Yeah, because of this new Netflix show, the game show
- 15:32Speaker 3: Wonka's Golden Ticket. Like I was part of that world
- 15:36Speaker 3: after I fell asleep. It's interesting, though, what sort of
- 15:39Speaker 3: things come into your mind when As you're trying to
- 15:44Speaker 3: get some rest.
- 15:45Speaker 4: Yes.
- 15:45Speaker 2: Did you have the what's it called? The little Oompa
- 15:48Speaker 2: Loompas singing? I've got the golden ticket in your dream.
- 15:52Speaker 2: I'm just curious.
- 15:52Speaker 3: I woke up before I could get to that part.
- 15:54Speaker 2: All right. Eight, six, six, nine, two, seven, forty, three,
- 15:57Speaker 2: sixty one in Chantilly. Troy, I understand your dream was
- 16:00Speaker 2: kind of crazy.
- 16:01Speaker 3: I mean, I assume it's still a dream that I
- 16:04Speaker 3: got abducted by aliens.
- 16:06Speaker 2: Assume you say.
- 16:07Speaker 3: OK, well, where exactly did this happen?
- 16:10Speaker 2: I was at a park.
- 16:11Speaker 3: I was playing soccer with friends. I was walking home
- 16:15Speaker 3: from that. All of a sudden, this light just like
- 16:17Speaker 3: beamed on me. And then I started floating in the air.
- 16:20Speaker 5: And then I don't really remember the rest, dude. I
- 16:22Speaker 5: don't know.
- 16:23Speaker 3: Wait, are you implying right now that maybe this wasn't
- 16:25Speaker 3: a dream, that you were actually probed? Probed.
- 16:29Speaker 2: I don't know if that was real or not. Troy,
- 16:31Speaker 2: much like Fox Mulder, I want to believe.
- 16:33Speaker 3: It was bizarre.
- 16:35Speaker 2: Troy, thank you for sharing your abduction story with us. Now,
- 16:39Speaker 2: and only Linda.
- 16:41Speaker 4: My dog was sitting on a chair at the dining
- 16:44Speaker 4: room table and it was Thanksgiving, but there was a
- 16:46Speaker 4: dog interpreter.
- 16:47Speaker 2: Do you mean like Cesar Milan, the dog whisperer?
- 16:51Speaker 3: Or was there another dog there interpreting the barks?
- 16:53Speaker 4: She was interpreting for the dog, but then all of
- 16:56Speaker 4: a sudden my dog started talking to me.
- 17:02Speaker 3: Free.
- 17:02Speaker 2: The dog wants freedom or a backyard. Anything else?
- 17:06Speaker 4: Why don't you let me eat out of the garbage?
- 17:09Speaker 3: I mean, I'm no dream interpreter, but I think you're
- 17:11Speaker 3: carrying a lot of mom dog guilt.

- 19:39Speaker 3: and thankfully, no one was hurt. A former Hayfield secondary

- 19:52Speaker 3: in this week on a felony embezzlement charge. And are
- 19:55Speaker 3: you 15 minutes late? Well, apparently most people will let
- 19:59Speaker 3: that slide. But a new survey says that once you
- 20:02Speaker 3: hit 29 minutes, you've crossed the line into rude. And
- 20:07Speaker 3: the whole I'm five minutes away text that you're sending,
- 20:11Speaker 3: a quarter of people say that's the biggest white lie
- 20:14Speaker 3: their friends tell. Forecast for today, it's going to feel
- 20:17Speaker 3: like summer again with sunny sky. It's going to be hot.
- 20:20Speaker 3: Highs around 90. Right now, 65 in Germantown.

- 20:30Speaker 3: 51% of people admit they've done this before sending a

- 20:37Speaker 2: Think about the last time you did this. Teddy Swim's
- 20:40Speaker 2: Capital One Arena. Now think about those tickets you see.

- 20:46Speaker 2: the question right. The tickets are yours. The question again is, 51%.
- 20:53Speaker 3: Of people admit they've done this before sending a text
- 20:56Speaker 3: to someone they like. What is it?
- 20:58Speaker 2: Call now. Get it right when you understand. The game's on.
- 21:03Speaker 1: Toby and Chili's Nearly Impossible Question.
- 21:05Speaker 2: Chili, let's get that question one more time.
- 21:07Speaker 3: 51% of people admit they've done this before they've sent
- 21:12Speaker 3: a text to somebody they have feelings for. What is it?
- 21:15Speaker 2: What is your name and where are you from? Hi,
- 21:18Speaker 2: good morning.
- 21:19Speaker 3: This is Dennis from Kensington.
- 21:20Speaker 2: Hey, Denison Kensington, I'm Toby Knapp. That's Chili Amar. You
- 21:23Speaker 2: just got the question. And I'll remind you that you're
- 21:26Speaker 2: playing for tickets to see Teddy Swim's Capital One Arena
- 21:29Speaker 2: on October 13th. Thank you, AEG. So what's your guess?
- 21:33Speaker 5: So I think they want to check with the friends
- 21:35Speaker 5: before they send the text.
- 21:37Speaker 3: You know, having a friend proofread it can definitely help
- 21:41Speaker 3: out so you don't make a fool of yourself.
- 21:43Speaker 1: Yes.
- 21:43Speaker 2: How many times have you made a fool out of
- 21:45Speaker 2: yourself by sending some errant text message, sir? I don't
- 21:48Speaker 2: do a lot of texting, but I'm sure I've done
- 21:51Speaker 2: it a few times.
- 21:51Speaker 4: Yes.
- 21:52Speaker 2: Yes, those texts can bite you in the backside. They
- 21:57Speaker 2: certainly can.
- 21:58Speaker 3: 51% of people admit they have asked a friend to
- 22:02Speaker 3: read a text before sending it to someone they like.
- 22:05Speaker 3: That means your answer was correct.
- 22:07Speaker 5: Oh, gosh.
- 22:08Speaker 3: Thanks, guys.
- 22:09Speaker 1: Made my day.
- 22:10Speaker 2: Well, you're going to Teddy Swim's. Hopefully he makes your
- 22:12Speaker 2: day on October 13th at Capital One Arena. Thanks to AEG.
- 22:17Speaker 1: Thank you, guys.
- 22:18Speaker 2: Have a great morning. You too. Enjoy your Friday and
- 22:21Speaker 2: have an even better weekend. Hang on so we can
- 22:23Speaker 2: get some very important information from you to make sure
- 22:25Speaker 2: you get these tickets. Now, you'll want to be here
- 22:28Speaker 2: on Monday morning, right around 7, 10, after Toby and
- 22:31Speaker 2: Tilly's top stories at the top of the hour, because
- 22:34Speaker 2: we've got your tickets to go to Baltimore and see
- 22:37Speaker 2: Usher with Chris Brown at M & T Bank Stadium. Yes,
- 22:41Speaker 2: it's going to be a big show, huge venue, and
- 22:44Speaker 2: you'll get to go if you play and win Monday
- 22:47Speaker 2: with another round of your nearly impossible question. Hang out
- 22:50Speaker 2: for a few because.
- 22:51Speaker 3: Coming up next, we've got a story that'll make you
- 22:54Speaker 3: feel good on this Friday. A local grocery store found
- 22:57Speaker 3: a simple way to help their workers move up, and
- 23:01Speaker 3: that's by teaching them English for free.
- 23:04Speaker 2: If there's a story that empowers people that's happening here
- 23:08Speaker 2: in the DMV, that's got to be a story that
- 23:10Speaker 2: makes you feel good on a Friday. So let's get
- 23:12Speaker 2: into it at 97.1 Wash FM with Toby and Chili
- 23:15Speaker 2: in the morning. Northern Virginia, this grocery store chain, they
- 23:20Speaker 2: found a simple way to help workers move on up
- 23:24Speaker 2: by teaching them English for free.
- 23:26Speaker 3: This is happening at Giant Food. It all started with
- 23:29Speaker 3: Ann Lewis. She's an HR partner for 20 local stores. Now,
- 23:34Speaker 3: she noticed a hardworking deli employee with real potential, but
- 23:37Speaker 3: management worried that the required food safety exam might hold
- 23:42Speaker 3: that person back.
- 23:43Speaker 5: Hmm.
- 23:43Speaker 2: But see, Ann didn't see that as a deal breaker.
- 23:45Speaker 2: The hardest part was finding someone to teach, right? It
- 23:48Speaker 2: took two years to find a teacher. And then she
- 23:51Speaker 2: connected with the Loudoun Literacy Council and the classes that
- 23:55Speaker 2: they have that launched in 2023 teaching people English. They
- 23:58Speaker 2: run eight to 10 weeks, an hour at a time
- 24:01Speaker 2: in small groups. So each employee gets that one-on-one personal attention.
- 24:06Speaker 3: And the results really speak for themselves because out of
- 24:08Speaker 3: 35 employees who've taken this class, at least 17 of
- 24:12Speaker 3: them have been promoted into full-time jobs or department manager roles.
- 24:18Speaker 3: Graduations are a big VIP event. The giant does. And
- 24:22Speaker 3: everyone from store managers to even the HR director turn
- 24:26Speaker 3: out to celebrate.
- 24:27Speaker 2: For instance- Johandra Rivas is from Nicaragua. And the classes,
- 24:32Speaker 2: they built her confidence, helping her to speak and communicate
- 24:36Speaker 2: better with her customers. And now she's the 26-year-old boss
- 24:40Speaker 2: of the deli at the Giant in Town Center at Sterling.
- 24:45Speaker 3: This is incredible. And Anne says, you know, other companies
- 24:47Speaker 3: should really try what Giant Food is doing because it
- 24:50Speaker 3: pays off for both the workers and the business.
- 24:53Speaker 2: Empowering people to succeed, to take care of their families and...
- 24:57Speaker 2: To be better employees long term, that is just something
- 25:01Speaker 2: that is amazing. It feels good on a Friday and
- 25:03Speaker 2: it feels good all the time.
- 25:05Speaker 3: Why?
- 25:05Speaker 2: Because. empowered people make a difference and when you have
- 25:09Speaker 2: a business like giant homegrown in the dmv that's making
- 25:12Speaker 2: that happen that means everything so thank you giant and
- 25:16Speaker 2: thank you to the people who have made this program
- 25:18Speaker 2: happen and lewis you specifically thank you for giving us
- 25:22Speaker 2: a story that feels good on a friday got something
- 25:25Speaker 2: to share with the class find us so we can

- 25:59Speaker 3: going to be opened until July 4th of 2276. But
- 26:03Speaker 3: what's inside?
- 26:04Speaker 2: A letter from King Charles, the president, the vice president,
- 26:09Speaker 2: and dirt. Soil from George Washington's ancestral home in England.
- 26:14Speaker 3: So cool.
- 26:15Speaker 2: See, the bonds that tie us together will not be broken.
- 26:20Speaker 2: It's 97.1 Wash FM.
- 26:23Speaker 1: 97.1 WASH FM, Washington. An iHeartRadio station. Coming up on
- 26:29Speaker 1: Top Stories, top of the hour.
- 26:30Speaker 3: The U.S. is sending more forces to the Middle East
- 26:34Speaker 3: as the president warns Iran to accept a fair deal
- 26:37Speaker 3: or cease to exist. We've got the latest on that
- 26:40Speaker 3: story and others on the way. With Toby and Chili
- 26:43Speaker 3: in the morning on 97.1 Wash FM.

- 26:50Speaker 2: The U.S.
- 26:51Speaker 3: Is sending more forces to the Middle East as the
- 26:54Speaker 3: president warns Iran to accept a fair deal or cease
- 26:57Speaker 3: to exist. Reports say the USS Theodore Roosevelt and a
- 27:01Speaker 3: Marine unit are heading to the region. A D.C. judge
- 27:04Speaker 3: has dismissed the case against former Olympian David Hearn without
- 27:08Speaker 3: prejudice yesterday, so he can never be charged again. He
- 27:12Speaker 3: had been accused of damaging the Lincoln Memorial reflecting pool,
- 27:15Speaker 3: but prosecutors admitted the contractors were to blame. The Justice
- 27:19Speaker 3: Department is suing the state of Maryland as well as
- 27:22Speaker 3: Montgomery and Prince George's counties over a law that bans
- 27:25Speaker 3: the use of face masks by law enforcement. A state
- 27:28Speaker 3: law that took effect yesterday prohibits officers from wearing face
- 27:32Speaker 3: coverings during their official duties. Teachers at Lake Braddock Secondary
- 27:37Speaker 3: School say they should not have to staff the school's
- 27:41Speaker 3: weapons detectors and they want trained security doing it instead.
- 27:45Speaker 3: The teachers union has filed a grievance and the school
- 27:48Speaker 3: board will make the final call. Northern Virginia vehicle owners
- 27:53Speaker 3: are facing a deadline for their annual state car tax payments.
- 27:57Speaker 3: Owners in Fairfax, Arlington, and Prince William counties will need
- 28:00Speaker 3: to have their payments turned in by Monday. Loudoun County
- 28:03Speaker 3: vehicle owners also need to make their second car tax
- 28:06Speaker 3: payment of the year on Monday. Now, be honest. Do
- 28:09Speaker 3: you judge people by their coffee order? Well, a third
- 28:13Speaker 3: of Americans admit that they do. And nearly a quarter
- 28:17Speaker 3: of them keep their own order a secret because of it.
- 28:20Speaker 3: And some of those secret orders apparently include butter and
- 28:24Speaker 3: maple syrup in their coffee. Forecast for today, it's going
- 28:28Speaker 3: to be another hot day. Sunny skies. Highs around 90.
- 28:31Speaker 3: Right now, 66 in Dumfries.
- 28:33Speaker 2: Musical freezing. Ponder that. Now that you've got your news,
- 28:38Speaker 2: top stories at the top of the hour, we're going
- 28:41Speaker 2: to ponder what this musical freeson is, what it means
- 28:46Speaker 2: to us, and then we're going to put what it
- 28:48Speaker 2: means to us to the test. Stay there. We're about
- 28:52Speaker 2: to learn something new on this Friday morning with Toby
- 28:55Speaker 2: and Chili in the morning. Toby and Chili in the morning,
- 28:58Speaker 2: 97.1 Wash FM. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you
- 29:02Speaker 2: something called Musical Friesen.
- 29:04Speaker 3: It's very cool. Do you ever get goosebumps when you
- 29:07Speaker 3: hear a song? It could be a soaring vocal, a
- 29:10Speaker 3: powerful guitar solo, or even a lyric that really feels
- 29:13Speaker 3: like it was written for you.
- 29:15Speaker 2: Well, I will say that music does move me. It
- 29:19Speaker 2: speaks to my soul. So there are times when a
- 29:21Speaker 2: song catches my feels in such a way that, yes,
- 29:25Speaker 2: I feel the goosebumps like somebody blowing on the back
- 29:29Speaker 2: of your neck. Oh, I love it.
- 29:30Speaker 3: Researchers actually linked the musical Friesen sensation to dopamine. Well,
- 29:36Speaker 3: you know, the brain's feel good reward chemical.
- 29:38Speaker 4: Sure.
- 29:38Speaker 3: Because there are certain musical moments that really like to
- 29:42Speaker 3: trigger it. And I think what makes it magical is
- 29:44Speaker 3: I think no matter how many times you hear that song,
- 29:47Speaker 3: it'll give you goosebumps or chills every single time.
- 29:50Speaker 2: You feel a personal connection to it. Chili, is there
- 29:54Speaker 2: a song in your life? That makes you feel this way,
- 29:58Speaker 2: this goose bump, this freesome.
- 30:01Speaker 3: And I give you permission to tease me about it
- 30:04Speaker 3: because I know it's a yacht rock song, but it's
- 30:07Speaker 3: a classic, I tell you. It's Christopher Cross and....
- 30:18Speaker 2: I will not give you any static on the Christopher Cross.
- 30:21Speaker 1: Oh, that was so good.
- 30:22Speaker 3: Even now I got goosebumps.
- 30:24Speaker 2: The man has an amazing story. There's nothing wrong with
- 30:27Speaker 2: a little bit of yacht rock. It's a different vibe.
- 30:30Speaker 3: Yes, it is. And that voice of his, my God,
- 30:33Speaker 3: it's so good.
- 30:33Speaker 2: I mean, he didn't look like the voice sounded, and
- 30:36Speaker 2: that's why he got screwed over by MTV. But you
- 30:39Speaker 2: know what? He's gone on to do fine. He got
- 30:42Speaker 2: lost between the moon and New York City while sailing,
- 30:45Speaker 2: and the rest is Christopher Cross history.
- 30:48Speaker 3: Okay, now what song gives you goosebumps, no matter how
- 30:51Speaker 3: often you hear it?
- 31:06Speaker 2: This is me.
- 31:08Speaker 3: Ooh, that's from the.
- 31:10Speaker 2: Greatest showman. This is me by the cast, which includes Zendaya,
- 31:15Speaker 2: Kiala Settle, and we can't forget about Wolverine, Hugh Jackman.
- 31:19Speaker 3: That is good.
- 31:20Speaker 2: Oh, so good. Even now I'm feeling moved.
- 31:23Speaker 3: And that one has that dramatic buildup and explosiveness.
- 31:26Speaker 2: That's exactly what I think it is that moves me.
- 31:29Speaker 2: And the harmonies are unexpected. These are all things that
- 31:33Speaker 2: go into this musical freeze that I have learned this morning.
- 31:36Speaker 2: And you've learned it, too. Is there a song that
- 31:39Speaker 2: speaks to you? Tell us all about it. Tap that
- 31:41Speaker 2: talkback microphone. If you're listening to us on your iHeart app,
- 31:44Speaker 2: you already know where it is. Over two hours of
- 31:47Speaker 2: commercial-free music on. It is 97.1 Wash FM. Toby and
- 31:51Speaker 2: Chili in the morning. Think of what you would do
- 31:54Speaker 2: with an extra thousand dollars. Retail therapy much?
- 31:59Speaker 3: Workday payday starts again Monday, right around 9, 10. So
- 32:03Speaker 3: make sure you're back here to listen for that keyword.
- 32:05Speaker 2: Now let's feel the feels with one Chris Brown. Warm
- 32:09Speaker 2: up your palate because there's some places to get your
- 32:11Speaker 2: good taste on in the DMV tomorrow. 97.1 Wash FM.

- 32:19Speaker 2: They've got food and music in downtown Bethesda. It's the
- 32:23Speaker 2: taste of Bethesda and it's free tomorrow. Or maybe you're
- 32:27Speaker 2: in the Nova hood.
- 32:28Speaker 3: In Vienna, Oktoberfest takes over Church Street. I'll be there
- 32:32Speaker 3: 11 to 7, hanging out, live music, brats, and beer.
- 32:35Speaker 2: Go and enjoy wherever you are. Over two hours of
- 32:39Speaker 2: commercial free music continues with Taylor Swift. Thanks for letting
- 32:43Speaker 2: us be a part of your mornings this week. We
- 32:45Speaker 2: know you've got a lot of choices, and the fact
- 32:47Speaker 2: that you let us be a small part of what
- 32:49Speaker 2: you're into means more than you know. Toby and Chili
- 32:53Speaker 2: in the morning. It's 97.1 Wash FM.
- 32:55Speaker 3: Now, before we leave, we do want to, of course,
- 32:58Speaker 3: share with you our morning mindset. And because it's Friday
- 33:01Speaker 3: and every Friday at 5 p.m., we kick off our
- 33:03Speaker 3: best of the 80s and 90s weekend. Toby, what lyric
- 33:07Speaker 3: have you chosen for us today?
- 33:08Speaker 2: From Michael Jackson in 1988, the song Man in the Mirror.
- 33:13Speaker 2: If you want to make the world a better place,
- 33:15Speaker 2: take a look at yourself and make that change. That's right.
- 33:20Speaker 2: Needs really no explanation. If you're going to make the
- 33:23Speaker 2: changes in life, don't wait on somebody else. Don't worry
- 33:25Speaker 2: about anybody else. Start with you. And the rest will
- 33:29Speaker 2: take care of itself. And now you know the rest
- 33:34Speaker 2: of the story. Have an amazing weekend. We'll talk to
- 33:38Speaker 2: you Monday.
- 33:39Speaker 1: Want more Toby and Jilly? Head over to WashFM.com or
- 33:43Speaker 1: the iHeartRadio app.
