- 0:48Now, here are the hosts of The United.
- 0:50We scan podcast. Well, welcome back, everybody.
- 0:55Episode 1 20 Oh, due to Mid State's last weekend, and those
- 1:02of us that drove getting back, kind of late.
- 1:04We didn't have an episode last week so well, go over Mid-States
- 1:09we'll talk about some ratification meetings and Yeah,
- 1:14the possibility of a new PMG. So, how is the last couple of
- 1:20weeks been for you, James? oh well pretty good, you know, I
- 1:29Ended up. Training a new sub and getting
- 1:33that all squared away. and of course, then getting into
- 1:39Mid-States a great Drive in Chicago, is a little backed up
- 1:43as usual, not as good as going out to western states where I
- 1:47just glue through Chicago. Springfield Illinois was
- 1:51beautiful. Got to walk through downtown
- 1:53area a few times, including for our rally and Seemed like a nice
- 1:59hotel, we were staying at. They said they were going to be
- 2:01remodeling it in a couple of months which is great for those
- 2:04and Illinois that used that facility frequently.
- 2:09And then it was just a normal week at the office for me.
- 2:13I did pass up food cards at the beginning of the week and I left
- 2:20a note for myself that if he doesn't want to do the food,
- 2:23right? Let me manage and know to pick
- 2:26up stuff or two, kinds of me, I'll come out and get it because
- 2:29I believe that is a very important service that the
- 2:34Postal Service provides in a way through the nalc and the rural
- 2:39carrier Union does support it as well.
- 2:41So I think, because I deliver to the very food bank that receives
- 2:48our pickup from our office That is very important to me to
- 2:52provide that service to them. So, other than that, um, looking
- 2:58forward to our ratification here in Michigan next Sunday, with my
- 3:02merola. In East.
- 3:04Lansing, for those of you in Michigan, I will be there.
- 3:06Anybody from out-of-state that can't make theirs, but could
- 3:11make that one or more than welcome to come.
- 3:14If you need any advice, ask Kristen or me of places to go in
- 3:18East Lansing, we both know, it was very well.
- 3:23But other than that, looking forward to another week of
- 3:26working my route. So How about who we have next?
- 3:32And be me because Bill is he running late due to family
- 3:37dinner for Mother's Day? Oh, so yeah, it's I only worked.
- 3:45Two days before. Yeah, because I took ended up
- 3:48taking one day off. To go to my youngest daughter's
- 3:52State band Festival. And we were gonna go for one
- 3:57performance and end up staying for four.
- 3:59We made a day out of it because Oscoda was also there for both
- 4:04their middle school and Senior bands, so Ruby had to stay.
- 4:09So we watched the Gaylord high school as well as Sophia's
- 4:13eighth grade and then us go to as well.
- 4:15So it's kind of a Bittersweet day for Ruby because she was in
- 4:19band under both directors. So from when she started in
- 4:22Gaylord and then let's go to And then went down to my parents and
- 4:29hung out there and then headed down to Illinois Thursday.
- 4:37And yeah, Mid-States. Midstates was good with the
- 4:43exception of my car, getting broken into over the weekend
- 4:45sometimes between Thursday night, Thursday, afternoon, and
- 4:49Saturday night. When Ruby went down to the car.
- 4:53Yeah, so I don't know that. It's stage wasn't too bad.
- 4:57And then got back to work. I took Monday off and it had
- 5:02been nothing but a Massive shitshow.
- 5:07It worked this week. That's all I can say about it.
- 5:13I guess Amazon didn't show up on Saturday, so Saturday's trickled
- 5:18in on Mondays. Monday came well Tuesday, showed
- 5:22up the day. I went back to work and I swear
- 5:24that was Monday and Tuesday's Amazon.
- 5:29Wednesday, our mail truck was three hours late so they sent us
- 5:32out with just our Amazon in case your mail open, wake up back for
- 5:37the next day. So Thursday was, of course, Two
- 5:41days worth of male two days worth of post office packages.
- 5:45Oh yeah. And a box holder on top of it.
- 5:48Let's add insult injury. Friday was a normal male day and
- 5:57Amazon from Hell yet again. So yeah, that wrap up and I
- 6:02finally got my KDAY this past Saturday and I stayed at home
- 6:06babysitting little man, so Ruby could run her out.
- 6:09Yeah, that was my week in a nutshell.
- 6:13Two weeks, I should say. So yeah.
- 6:24It's been. It's been a week, I'm interested
- 6:29to see what this week holds, not really.
- 6:31But, you know, On that note, what did you think of Mid-States
- 6:39James? Well, considering that I've been
- 6:44to all the regional conferences this year, 95% of what was said
- 6:49at this one. Was it almost exactly the same
- 6:52as what was that at the other one.
- 6:55Um, the Q&A was different. But I think that we should
- 7:00actually listen to. Your perspective and a
- 7:05first-timer perspective if we could, because I really would
- 7:09love to hear the first time her perspective, going to Mid-State.
- 7:13you know, as we are senior in doing that.
- 7:20You know, we've been just several of them.
- 7:22But I'd like to actually get your guys's opinion because
- 7:26y'all have heard mine for the last four of them.
- 7:32Well, let's go ahead and do our first timer.
- 7:35And I want to hear the first time experience too because this
- 7:38was like my sixth or this is like my sixth or seventh seventh
- 7:43Mid State. So, Go ahead and give us a first
- 7:49timers, insight to how your Mid-State experience was
- 7:53pleased. How are we doing everybody?
- 7:57Hopefully everybody's doing good.
- 7:58Happy Mother's Day to all the lucky mothers out there.
- 8:01We appreciate you and we love you all.
- 8:05As for Midstates. First time ever going to
- 8:07Mid-States It was a real eye-opener in my personal
- 8:14opinion, what really made it? All Summer.
- 8:17In my opinion, was just seeing all the new faces besides that,
- 8:22I do at State Convention or local meetings.
- 8:25But getting to sit down and talk to them, see their views and
- 8:29oral pinion's, It, you know, kind of what James was saying,
- 8:35the Q&A. I I could have sworn they were
- 8:41going to read all the questions but you know, they have limited
- 8:46time to do all that stuff. my question, particularly didn't
- 8:50get answered in order to my buddies but you know, I don't
- 8:59want to say this. But it out there, put it out
- 9:02there. Well, I I don't remember what
- 9:06the first question was. But I thought the way that it
- 9:11was answered when the question was crumpled up and throwing out
- 9:15and said that this was a bullshit question.
- 9:19I I don't think that was a propriate, as, you know, there
- 9:25was quite a few 30 or first timers there.
- 9:28I think there was 32 33, maybe more.
- 9:33If they I think there was 32 in the picture if I remember
- 9:36correctly. Um, give me a second here.
- 9:45All right, so I I guess the first timer could have asked
- 9:52that question which I did not nor do I know who asked it, I
- 9:56guess I was kind of expecting. ah, a more professional answer
- 10:01from Don mass in specifically but, I also know that they were
- 10:09able to personally review each individual card before answering
- 10:14it. So my question is If it was a
- 10:18dumb question, why would you even answer it at all?
- 10:26A good thing about it, that I thought was the rally.
- 10:31Seeing everybody coming out there getting together, seeing
- 10:35all the horns, Hulk, everybody. Cheer, I personally really
- 10:38thought that was a good time. And banquet.
- 10:43What I remember it bankwood was all pretty interesting.
- 10:48Did you review the the video of its I I did.
- 10:56Unfortunately I did and I'm not volunteering ever again, but if
- 11:02you do get an opportunity to get hypnotized please, by all means
- 11:06do it. no, I'll just leave it at that, but You know, seeing a lot
- 11:15of people even on the Discord here, you know, just getting to
- 11:20sit down and talk to them having a drink or or whatever, you
- 11:24know, just sitting in their room and discussing.
- 11:28You know, certain topics. It was just awesome.
- 11:32You know, seeing the flags that represent Mid-States coming in,
- 11:37I really enjoyed that. That was pretty cool.
- 11:40I did end up winning two different auctions.
- 11:44There was a I think it was 100 anniversary a Mid-States, I
- 11:50can't remember. And then some really old Old
- 11:54National Magazine's. So overall, I really did enjoy.
- 12:02Mid-States and the wife. We were just talking about it
- 12:06today. Actually, she wants to go to
- 12:07National Convention so we're gonna hold to see everybody
- 12:11there, awesome. That would be awesome to see you
- 12:14at National as well. Yeah, it's one of those things
- 12:22that we appreciate that but like you said that, that responds.
- 12:29On the stage. Could have turned some
- 12:32first-timers in the last time. If that was their question.
- 12:41Well, like I said you just don't know.
- 12:42I mean, Me personally, I didn't put my name on it, I don't think
- 12:46my buddy put his name on it. I don't know if anybody put
- 12:49their name on it. Well, I'm sure if they would
- 12:52have, they probably would have been called out. but, you know,
- 12:57talking to the other national board members as well, you know,
- 13:02it was it was good to see their perspective, it really opened my
- 13:06eyes On certain topics that I'll keep private. even after
- 13:14Midstate, you know, I I went to this tentative agreement Meeting
- 13:20last night. It was very informative.
- 13:23I do appreciate the representatives.
- 13:26That was there, and taking the hour and a half.
- 13:29After the meeting to just sit down and talk.
- 13:37That's good to hear. And that is.
- 13:40I do know. Saturday, after I was filed, my
- 13:46police report from discovering that my car had been broken
- 13:49into. And Ruby.
- 13:50And I were heading back to the room from the parking garage
- 13:54that, you know, there we did have a national officer standing
- 13:58there with a group of about six people going over their
- 14:01questions and certain issues that are pertaining to them and
- 14:06recs and stuff. And, and just taking that extra
- 14:10time and that was, you know, 11:00 at night.
- 14:14So, I loved seeing that it was it was pretty awesome.
- 14:18The rally. Oh yeah.
- 14:20Go ahead been Oh, one thing all I do appreciate, you know, my
- 14:25buddy. I was staying staying with.
- 14:26I didn't get his consent to shout his name out, or anything
- 14:29like that old as I would, but I had the privilege of staying
- 14:32with him and his Hilton on in RV.
- 14:38And I'm telling you, this thing is nice and immaculate.
- 14:40Yeah, but we ended up not staying in the whole tail.
- 14:43We ate and stayed at the Illinois State Fairgrounds and
- 14:47you know, for what we paid oh my gosh, it was it was really,
- 14:52really nice, 30 dollars a night with full hookups Yeah, yeah.
- 15:04Well we're speaking of that rally.
- 15:09We found. Some rural carriers.
- 15:13That are going to make it. Major.
- 15:17Pushes within this Union. We found people who are going to
- 15:22stand up for this craft, we're willing to fight for this craft
- 15:25or to be loud and vocal for this craft.
- 15:29Didn't we? Yep.
- 15:35Who was that Senator that showed up.
- 15:39I think it was the one that had her office that was that we
- 15:42walked past. Yeah.
- 15:48And I also agree that it the national board fell, but most of
- 15:54the national board felt more approachable. this year at these
- 15:57conferences than any years past I agree and in many ways.
- 16:04And you know it the rally Israeli wrapped up and we were
- 16:08getting ready to walk out. You know, president Mastin saw
- 16:12that little man had a nrlca t-shirt on that.
- 16:16He was swimming in but, you know, he took the time and did a
- 16:21photo with him and I actually walked back with Don and we had
- 16:25decent conversation back to the hotel.
- 16:27I mean, it was, it was nice, it was nice to hear his perspective
- 16:31on things. It was You know, some good
- 16:34information, just Converse and have a leisurely chat while
- 16:39you're walking back the few blocks to the hotel. yeah, talk
- 16:44with them on an even level, not in a Oh, what's the terminal
- 16:52here? Not a untouchable.
- 16:58Way, you know where you can actually level the level with
- 17:03each other carrier to carry your kind of talk.
- 17:06Absolutely. Absolutely.
- 17:09You know, that's what I really enjoy about, you know,
- 17:11Mid-States. And I mean we had but 200 and
- 17:14270 people in attendance. I mean that's awesome.
- 17:17It was woohoo. Michigan got to take the
- 17:19traveling trophy back home. Midstates conference has a thing
- 17:23every year. So the host state Because it
- 17:27could we go amongst an alphabetical order amongst the
- 17:30states this year. It was co-hosted by Indiana
- 17:32Illinois. Because they got skipped over
- 17:35during covid, and we happen to have a year open that didn't
- 17:39have a contract set yet. So we let them slip in after
- 17:42Michigan. So, What it is, is this trophy
- 17:47that gets passed at each Mid-State conference?
- 17:50The hosting State obviously is out of the run for it because
- 17:53they're hosting. But every, any state that brings
- 17:57the most people in attendance Gets the traveling trophy, well
- 18:03Michigan's to keep it except for when they're hosting it.
- 18:07And so since we hosted at last year, we we got it back this
- 18:12year by having the most people in attendance.
- 18:13So It's just kind of fun. Little competition, camaraderie
- 18:18amongst the 14 States. I will also say, you know, a lot
- 18:29of us went out to eat with each other, you know, different
- 18:32periods nights. Make sure you read the menu,
- 18:35make sure you know what you're buying very, very lucky.
- 18:43You depended on the graciousness of those around you, with that
- 18:48order. Yeah yeah apparently six pieces
- 18:54of shrimp cost 29.99 and for whoever bought that meal which
- 18:59was not me. Thank you very much.
- 19:00I'm sorry. Um Oh my goodness.
- 19:05I was looking at that going to that all you're eating.
- 19:11In the four ounces of broccoli too, don't forget that.
- 19:16Yeah, the six pieces of shrimp and maybe five or six pieces of
- 19:21broccoli, right? Yep.
- 19:24Yep. Yep, yep.
- 19:25It was a very interesting. But that was not at the hotel
- 19:31restaurant that was at one of the entire restaurant down the
- 19:34street, from the hotel. Just so we're clear.
- 19:37We're not we're not putting it on the hotel restaurant.
- 19:41Correct. But you guys have anything you
- 19:49would you thought was, The best thing they did and the worst
- 19:56thing that they did in these conferences.
- 19:59Let's go with that. Well, given that we had a couple
- 20:06speakers that were slated to be there, but could not I think
- 20:10Kirby stepped up and did the steward presentation pretty
- 20:14good. And then moving the speakers
- 20:19around from the afternoon to the morning to fill out where
- 20:22Management's guest was not present for at Mid-States this
- 20:28year. No.
- 20:29I think they handled the schedule changes pretty good.
- 20:31I'll give them that and your negative for the You know, I
- 20:43think they could have done a better with the Q&A questions.
- 20:47That's, that's really it. Yeah.
- 20:51Overall yeah. Overall, you know, besides that
- 20:56for the Q&A I can't think much of a negativity at all.
- 21:01You know, I thought we were treated pretty.
- 21:04I thought Retreat to not, not pretty but very kindly from the
- 21:07hotel staff. I appreciate them.
- 21:13Yeah, just like Christian said, you know, filling in the gaps
- 21:18where unfortunately people didn't make it would Probably be
- 21:22the best. Actually, you know what?
- 21:24The best part about it was just getting to meet and talk to
- 21:27people. That was that that's what I'm
- 21:29gonna say. I can agree with both of you on
- 21:34that. and I think that, Even. Even though I'm not gonna go on
- 21:42the Q&A part, I'm going to say that I wish the Q&A part was
- 21:46just a little bit longer in time frame.
- 21:49It gave a little more time for the questions.
- 21:53And then put a break right after that, that way.
- 21:55If they got done early, we can add a longer break, you know,
- 21:58kind of thing. But a little bit more time for
- 22:01the Q&A with the size of the room, if every person has
- 22:06submitted a question, You know, they want they all come there,
- 22:10they come there for those answers.
- 22:13And what the people in. Charge of these events good to
- 22:20recognize is the need for those questions to be answered.
- 22:24Whether or not the person answering them calls him a
- 22:27bullshit question or not. The question and answer part.
- 22:32They should take the time to answer all the questions every
- 22:34other conference that I went to this year, they answered pretty
- 22:38much every question that was put up, even when they said they
- 22:41weren't going to answer the questions of certain
- 22:43individuals. But they answered almost every
- 22:47question. That was given to them at every
- 22:49other conference except this one.
- 22:53Who was the best speaker? Is a question in the chat.
- 22:56So who do you guys think was the best speaker?
- 23:02I don't know. That's a hard one because I've
- 23:04seen them all speaks. More than one.
- 23:06So I probably say John Adams, I love you.
- 23:20I I just think I'm gonna go with Kirby Ricketts, but that's
- 23:26mainly because I personally talked to him off on the side as
- 23:30well. And I'm gonna say, John Mark.
- 23:36Mm-hmm. He has fun doing that.
- 23:42You can tell yes. Bill, finally, joining us.
- 23:49Know, the new grandfather to be as my son and daughter-in-law
- 23:54have announced their eighth week pregnancy.
- 23:57Well congratulations. Thank you.
- 24:00Thank you. Thank you.
- 24:02I just said, I don't want a gender reveal because then Carol
- 24:07will be out there, buying all the little girly stuff.
- 24:10She can possibly get her hands on it.
- 24:17It'll be the first granddaughter and she will get spoiled to
- 24:20Hell. Hmm.
- 24:23Yeah, my my family lineage is we produce men child manly
- 24:28children. But in bills break that.
- 24:33It's my son William. And my son, William informed.
- 24:39His sister while I was at Mid-State that his soon to be
- 24:43baby is a boy What can I say? I mean, you know, Yeah.
- 24:53The oldest, the oldest boy in my family.
- 24:57Produced one. Son.
- 24:58Two daughters. You know, of my myself, I got
- 25:02three boys. My my sister had a daughter.
- 25:06My other sister had a son, and my other brother had.
- 25:11Or sons and three daughters. Wow. so, It's a family thing.
- 25:19Thank you, dear. Lovely wife.
- 25:23Just delivered me my coffee. Oh, How is your past couple
- 25:28weeks been for you, Bill? Oh, yeah.
- 25:32Well You know with the wife in like go from her job.
- 25:40I don't think I'm gonna stay in retirement if she's staying
- 25:43home. To tell you, I love my wife, I
- 25:50don't love her 24 hours a day. It's, you know, I mean, yeah,
- 25:59she's she's contacted the lawyers, she's filed for EEOC,
- 26:03which won't be hurting until September.
- 26:06Uh, you know, since age, discrimination wasn't part of
- 26:10the conversation of her being released from work that they
- 26:13shows have a strong case there. the fact that she didn't get a
- 26:17severance package that, you know, up near because that can
- 26:20be a filed against others, have gotten Severance packages but I
- 26:27love her, but, you know, Retirement was supposed to be
- 26:31downtime for me. It is not downtime.
- 26:36Okay, let me tell you. I told her.
- 26:42I told her I said yeah I'm gonna go look for a job and she goes
- 26:46why? Yeah, you don't need the money.
- 26:48I said I know, And I left it at that.
- 26:56I was I wasn't gonna say it was the kids away from you but Oh
- 27:02Lord. Hmm.
- 27:03And then my, my middle son came up today and took my car because
- 27:08his his car blue and engine And he's 8,000 dollars, the, you
- 27:13know, the 60 engine on there and, you know, they're working
- 27:16with taking the money out of the loan for it and refinance, the
- 27:20car, and being alone in the car. He's gonna be able to make a
- 27:24payment that's like 48 Hours more than just the old car
- 27:27payment. So that's okay.
- 27:28But he needed a car. So what did my wife do?
- 27:35Oh well you can use your dad's car.
- 27:42You know, this is why I didn't join the, the standard military
- 27:47service. I don't volunteer for things
- 27:50like that. My commanding officer
- 27:54volunteered me. Volunteered.
- 28:00Yes. Volatile So I told my son, I
- 28:07said Remember the rules back in the day when you were driving.
- 28:09Yes. If I have an accident, And the
- 28:13car still drives. Keep going.
- 28:15The cars not drivable, start walking, but don't ever come
- 28:19back. I said, okay, oh, great advice
- 28:26my bill May This day, I still have his loan papers but I
- 28:35bought him his first car. If you miss a payment it's 50
- 28:40dollars. If you miss a second payment,
- 28:41it's a hundred dollars. If you missed a third payment,
- 28:44it's a testicle. It's some people work said I was
- 28:49full of shit. I would never do.
- 28:50I brought the signed contract in And they're looking like what
- 28:55the hell. He's I guess he really wanted
- 28:59that car. He damn straight.
- 29:00He did. And he wasn't gonna violate
- 29:03those terms. For more than two months, we
- 29:08know. Don't tell me, I don't know how
- 29:14to negotiate. Never said, you didn't.
- 29:20Yeah. 800 volts did. All right, a little bit more
- 29:29ratification meetings. What you guys is opinion of the
- 29:33zoom meeting That was the biggest waste of 30 minutes I
- 29:40ever took. I I have to agree with many that
- 29:46said, it should have just been a link on the website Yeah.
- 29:53Yep, that was brought up in ours as well.
- 29:58That's why I go to the Min person.
- 30:01Yes, I will be going next week to my in-person one.
- 30:05Yep, like somebody just in the chat, they did some work around
- 30:08BS with that. He I don't work.
- 30:12I don't remember the previous ta being like that at all.
- 30:15No, no. The zoom meetings we had for
- 30:18that were personal and you could ask questions.
- 30:24And that's what they should have done with this one as well.
- 30:27But I think that because they're trying to ramrod it through and
- 30:31shove it down our throats that they're trying to eliminate a
- 30:36lot of the dispelling questions and things like that.
- 30:45Well, personally in regards to this contractor tentative
- 30:48agreement. Yeah, a lot of people were for
- 30:52saying, yeah, you're not gonna get anything better, some people
- 30:54recent it saying we should go for more.
- 30:57And you know, the the arbitration process is a, what
- 31:01do you say, James and 80/20 proper position?
- 31:05you know, in early and anything more, you know, he always starts
- 31:09out at 50 5 0, Basically had it force-fed down their throat.
- 31:23In a 48, our decision, a the arbitrator.
- 31:28I think that we will get the same here, and That if you vote
- 31:33for the contract, okay? And say, well, we didn't lose
- 31:36anything. The quote somebody But did we
- 31:40really gain that much? And the answer is no.
- 31:45So by voting no you're not saying, you know, you don't want
- 31:50this agreement, you're saying no, our board didn't represent
- 31:55our case in the strong enough position, get us better.
- 32:00You're letting the board know that you're disappointed in
- 32:02their efforts. And you know, for them to say,
- 32:06well this is what the city got and that's supposed to make me
- 32:09feel better. Actually, the city got a little
- 32:13more than we did. I tried to explain the two week,
- 32:17cut off on each, you know. Step on table 2.
- 32:21Coming out the 30 weeks which is a little more than half a year.
- 32:24So you're still have to put in almost two and a half more
- 32:27years. You get to the top of the table.
- 32:30There's no the top of the table too as far as steps are
- 32:34concerned over table one. A half years.
- 32:40And I think somebody who worked it out to be about approximately
- 32:43164,000, dollars difference? 130.
- 32:49Oh the figure I saw was 164 so I'm quoting 164.
- 32:56Yeah, I did. I did and That could actually be
- 33:00right because of how fast much faster table.
- 33:03One. Gets up the steps after the
- 33:06initially BNC. Yes.
- 33:08So it could be higher. But I did the 130 based on the
- 33:1052 weeks for ours and the Growing. doing the same with the
- 33:18table once a little over 130,000, so $164 found about
- 33:23right too but either way I did the calculation. and from 1990,
- 33:30Which is the year done. Mastering the Postal Service.
- 33:34According to his hero page of his profile 1990 is when he
- 33:40joined as an RCA. From 1990 to.
- 33:43Now the cost of living went up to 230 to 240%.
- 33:49Depending on what you're buying. In the same time frame.
- 33:54From the table, the initial table 1.
- 33:58Regular carrier. Depth one, 40 hours. to today's
- 34:04table a 40 hours. That the table one. 158%
- 34:12increase. Tabled two.
- 34:16Starting at that. Step one table, one.
- 34:18Because I was the only table for regular carriers back then to
- 34:22table Two, Step One is 109% increased.
- 34:29So that compared to the 230 to 240, is what we should be really
- 34:33looking at. Now, there are humans out there
- 34:37from veteran carriers that when they came on the scene.
- 34:41It used to be just table and step one and then they added a b
- 34:46and c. So, now table two has got what
- 34:50they had gotten when they joined in.
- 34:52But really we should be focusing on lifting everybody up.
- 34:57To the higher standard including table one carriers.
- 35:01Now, Because they are still. 80% behind the cost of living.
- 35:10From 1990 to now. Everybody should go up.
- 35:15And we all should be equal in the years of service that we
- 35:19provided to this organization. Okay.
- 35:26So let me, let me throw this out here, okay?
- 35:31Then we have a solid timetable on the PA being offered to us.
- 35:40as the national board come out and say when they're gonna, Send
- 35:43it out to us for to vote on it. He said amount yesterday, right?
- 35:51Yeah. even though all the meetings aren't, Yes.
- 35:56And they don't they don't expect them to be back in the mailbox
- 35:59until June 13th at noon Eastern Time.
- 36:03Oh let's see. That's that's right in the
- 36:07middle of the State Convention starting Or ending actually
- 36:12actually ending because they have to be done before the end
- 36:15of June. So, let's see.
- 36:19That would give them ratification until approximately
- 36:21the middle July. At the latest.
- 36:26And that means by time we come to the National Convention Will
- 36:31either have a contract or be an arbitration.
- 36:35Mm-hmm. I don't know.
- 36:39But you know, if I worked at the fish market, I would say that's
- 36:45the most fishy to me. Just the time table, you know?
- 36:54I guess regardless the the main thing, regardless of what you
- 36:58vote for or against, right, I personally I don't care what you
- 37:03vote for as long as you vote because when only what 20,000
- 37:08plus people, What was it last year?
- 37:1120,000 plus people. I I don't remember the exact
- 37:15figure when sold little. Yeah.
- 37:18When so little the membership vote I mean Please, as soon as
- 37:24he get that ballot Market, whatever you want to and get it
- 37:27back in the mail. Yeah.
- 37:31That's I mean that's the most simple form of using your voice.
- 37:38Hey, let's hit the mail on Friday.
- 37:40The 9th. So They should be coming anytime
- 37:44to a mailbox near you. Make sure you fill them out
- 37:48properly, that includes the return address in your state.
- 37:53Your associated with All that stuff needs to be filled out
- 37:57accordingly. So And yet, I I've seen the
- 38:03comments on social media. Well, they're having these ta
- 38:08meetings and six people were showing up or people are showing
- 38:13up. Yeah?
- 38:14One, I saw where it was the the State Board.
- 38:18And an NSS person. I'm like, what?
- 38:23This is the response. You're getting to people who
- 38:27were concerned about what their contract is going to be in the
- 38:29future. I'm just, well, under I think
- 38:39Ruby was even talking about taking.
- 38:43Send it next Sunday off from her other job too.
- 38:46To go to the in-person with me. I don't know if she is or not,
- 38:50but hopefully. yeah, you know, it's Either way, I'm going.
- 39:01But other than that, What else was in the news James?
- 39:07well, it looks like they've Chosen a new Postmaster,
- 39:12General. and, from what I've gathered other than the neutral
- 39:22the message from president Mastin, all the other unions are
- 39:28against this conflict of interest.
- 39:33Being appointed to Postmaster General.
- 39:35The reason I say conflict of interest is his current task is
- 39:40being on the board of directors for FedEx.
- 39:45Previously, he held positions within Waste Management.
- 39:52And another recycling company on top of that.
- 39:55And he's also a lawyer. The.
- 40:04He was appointed in the same manner that the joy was in that
- 40:09he was a donor to the presidential campaign. and,
- 40:16unfortunately, we currently have a don't have a full Board of
- 40:21Governors. so, just the people that are around there right now,
- 40:25including Doug. Tolino.
- 40:28Current acting Postmaster General.
- 40:31Decided to appoint this gentleman, two.
- 40:35Postmaster General before he even gets his background, checks
- 40:39done. As required and I wonder if
- 40:42they'll also be the conflict of interest, if they'll force him
- 40:46to resign, from the board of directors of FedEx before he
- 40:49takes the position. So I want to get your guys's
- 40:54opinion. Firstly on him before I go into
- 40:57how I feel about. Kristen, you must start.
- 41:02I personally don't have an opinion as of right now.
- 41:05As I I haven't researched him at all on my own time, so therefore
- 41:11I don't have an opinion. Presently.
- 41:16Same here. Bill.
- 41:20Let it Fly Boy. Let it Fly.
- 41:24Okay? Like you said without him, being
- 41:28currently vetted for the position, how are you giving him
- 41:32a position? All right.
- 41:35The fact of the matter that he serves on the board of one of
- 41:38our competitors. Because remember, we're no
- 41:41longer a male service, we're a package delivery service. so, it
- 41:45bodes well that, you know, In his package, delivery service
- 41:51experience. That, you know, he might be able
- 41:54to help the post office in some ways.
- 41:57The problem of his is that you're gonna take a company,
- 42:01like FedEx, Which basically contracts most of their work
- 42:06out. And you're going to try to apply
- 42:10that. The unionized crafts, multiple
- 42:15craps. It's just doesn't sound like a
- 42:18good recipe for a cake, okay. Now, I had to laugh because when
- 42:24I saw that he also ran Waste Management.
- 42:28I'm sitting there going Oh, hell.
- 42:31He's gonna have a field day with postal management because most
- 42:35of them are a waste. but the problem of it is that, you know,
- 42:40when you have people come in like this, you know, from the
- 42:42outside, they don't do any changes drastic changes because
- 42:46they want to get a feel for the land, you know, get a sense of
- 42:50the layout of the management structure.
- 42:54By time, you get down to our level, the local postmaster,
- 42:58district managers supervised and all that. you know, he'll
- 43:02probably be out of be out of a term all so because it'll take
- 43:06him years to filter through all this stuff and figure out why
- 43:10the hell we're having problems with hiring.
- 43:13Attention training, you know, as well as you know, the fact that
- 43:18we have so many grievances well being unionized as we are and I
- 43:23not sure waste management was a union company somebody can you
- 43:28know, check that out real quick. But the fact that matter is that
- 43:34He's going to be dealing with the situation.
- 43:35He's unfamiliar with, in regards to dealing with the unions and
- 43:39the expense, the cost per se of dealing with unions through the
- 43:44grievance process. I don't care what anybody says
- 43:47about you know what's going private.
- 43:49You know, privatizing the post office.
- 43:52You can't. reasonably say that that's a possibility because of
- 43:58the fact that there's so many Oops, you have to jump through
- 44:02to do that and there's not enough members in Congress that
- 44:06was supported the, you know, from the true truly rule states.
- 44:11And rule states includes States like Texas.
- 44:15Michigan, Iowa. Can't this you know, all the
- 44:18Central States And a lot of the other states and Georgia,
- 44:22Florida, South Carolina, and North Carolina, all these
- 44:25populated states that are not gonna go for Private Edition.
- 44:30But I would not put past this individual and to segregating
- 44:35the male and the parcel business. as a Avenue.
- 44:43Of savings. And in savings that, you know,
- 44:46you have dedicated male vehicles and dedicated a parcel vehicles.
- 44:52till you know, and and I just saw another load of NG and New
- 44:57generation and gdvs delivered. And I'm just sitting there and
- 45:01I'm laughing. It's like I can't wait to see
- 45:03the repairs on these trucks because of the height. and the
- 45:07people's unfamiliarity and going up and down driveways or just
- 45:10under low-lying branches, and everything else and and drying
- 45:14this service boxes I don't see the feasibility in this and
- 45:19there's nobody else out there with the vehicle that that
- 45:22designed to really, you know, fit our needs But this man is
- 45:26stepping into a shit. Load of trouble.
- 45:32And yes, we are service. We're not designed to make a
- 45:34profit. But we still have to operate on
- 45:37the standard business. Principals in regards to expense
- 45:42costs. Income Revenue, you know,
- 45:46everything else, credits, and debits it all has to make hours
- 45:51and cents. and I don't know that this guy's going to be able to
- 45:54do that without A little bore, a little more, or deeper,
- 46:00understanding of unionized federal employees.
- 46:11All right, so I did take the time to research him and what
- 46:16he's done in the past and where he's come from and things like
- 46:18that, you know, he didn't start out as a CEO, he didn't start
- 46:22out running. Boards or anything like that he
- 46:26started out just as a corporate lawyer. and worked his way up
- 46:31and waste management dealing with the crash Mafia.
- 46:37In a lot of places. So, a lot of places, the trash
- 46:40was ran by basically a mafia that controlled Regions of trash
- 46:46hauling. And a lot of them got indicted
- 46:50on that. He did not, he avoided that Then
- 46:55he moved on to a recycling company from there, and then got
- 47:00a pointed to the board of FedEx as well as tayco engineering.
- 47:10um, but the truth is FedEx, doesn't do what we do.
- 47:15UPS doesn't do what we do. Amazon doesn't do what we do and
- 47:21waste management. Definitely does not do what we
- 47:23do. Although we deal with trash from
- 47:26management all the time. You know, in his career with
- 47:32Waste Management. This is the scariest part of
- 47:36this gentleman. As CEO.
- 47:40He allowed. Gabs to work, well, his waist
- 47:45management employees Were Striking for a contract.
- 47:50On top of that. In another striking situation,
- 47:53he allowed scabs again, and then Fired the union employees.
- 48:02In lieu of using the scabs, to do the job of the Union
- 48:05employees were doing. This man is going to be.
- 48:12Difficult to work with from a union aspect.
- 48:17But not impossible. Because the fact is we do
- 48:22something. No one else does.
- 48:25Because no one can do it better than the rural craft.
- 48:30Even contract routes. There are contract carriers that
- 48:36are quitting because they can no longer afford to work for the
- 48:39Postal Service. Guess where the postal service
- 48:42has to put those routes right back into the Worldcraft.
- 48:47If they cannot find a contract carrier to do it for cheaper
- 48:50than the Worldcraft. They have to give it back to the
- 48:53world craft. so, he also looked for ways to save minutes.
- 49:02On employees. That includes the things being
- 49:08used against us now. Stationary events.
- 49:12Dulles for City carriers, Rex inputs for us?
- 49:19He's gonna find the minister to save on the back, so the
- 49:22employees. Now, on the flip side of that
- 49:26because he always looks for these costs Savings in
- 49:29employees. That means no one in this
- 49:33organization is safe, whether they are craft members or
- 49:38management. Because he also has a history of
- 49:44removing management as well. Trying to lean out the company
- 49:51to save money. So, Whether or not we can
- 49:57convince him that the Worldcraft needs to be paid more as a moot
- 50:00point. Because when we don't have
- 50:02contract carriers, I want to run these are out.
- 50:05And we aren't getting people to be hired in here.
- 50:07He definitely can't turn around and bring in scab labor to
- 50:12replace us. He's going to have to work with
- 50:15us, whether he likes it or not. Even with the Wells Fargo
- 50:21report, which literally was the dumbest piece of paper I've ever
- 50:26written I've ever read. Talking about how we can sell
- 50:31off to FedEx and UPS FedEx and UPS already have their systems
- 50:35all leaned out the way they want them to.
- 50:37They don't want to pick up the rural craft.
- 50:41It's unprofitable to them. That's why we deliver their
- 50:44stuff in rural area. so, If he thinks he's going to try and
- 50:49privatize the Postal Service, he's going to have a very
- 50:51difficult time doing it especially for the value that
- 50:55the Worldcraft brings to The Postal Service.
- 50:58But that's just my opinion and I think that as long as we put
- 51:01pressure on him where we show him the value we bring we don't
- 51:07just stand there and protest like whiny kids.
- 51:10We actually show value for the rural craft.
- 51:13We have a possibility of making changes with this man but unless
- 51:19something else changes we're going to have to work with with
- 51:22him. To get through it.
- 51:26Now, the only stipulation that I'll point out there, James that
- 51:30this gentleman has served on board.
- 51:35Is not served in the industry per se.
- 51:38Okay, he hasn't worked his way up through waste management or
- 51:44FedEx. He's, you know.
- 51:48He's a paper pusher. Okay, that's exactly what he is.
- 51:51And that is a dangerous position.
- 51:56To be in control of the post office.
- 51:59Because he's going to be looking at the numbers.
- 52:01Just like these idiots in District do every day for
- 52:04stationary events. Miss scans, you know, all the
- 52:09little, you know, bulshit items they can possibly, you know,
- 52:12wean against us. I've got a guy on EP who took
- 52:17over my route because he wore an earbud.
- 52:23To work. EP for earbud.
- 52:29Now, I don't know about anybody else, but when I get up in the
- 52:32morning, I go down stairs. I go to the coffee pot, pick up
- 52:36the pot, that port and the cup, I take it into the kitchen.
- 52:40When my sugar and creamer is a mixing together, I put the cap
- 52:44on, go outside with my phone and check all my messages and phone
- 52:48calls and stuff. It up you, my shower, get
- 52:53dressed and everything comes down stairs.
- 52:55I pulled my Bluetooth in my ear, my phone on my pocket and I go
- 52:58out the door. Doing that for, you know, years.
- 53:03Just like, you know, earbuds people who have been doing it
- 53:06for years, it's second nature to them.
- 53:09You're going to eat piece somebody with 16 years of
- 53:12carrying experience over an earbud.
- 53:19Why? Well, because okay, we can hire
- 53:22somebody to come in there cheaper and do the job because
- 53:25he's a table one person. the problems that is that you can't
- 53:31hire anybody right now. Westchester has 18 routes to
- 53:38which are vacant as of February 27th, have not been posted and
- 53:43the local area Steward has not filed a grievance yet. somebody
- 53:49questioned the fact that well there were up for adjustments
- 53:53right now it doesn't matter. The route is still going to
- 53:56remain intact no matter what it's going to be either an
- 54:01overburden route if you don't get it done or it'll be a 43k.
- 54:04If you do get it done, but the route will still be there.
- 54:07Therefore the posting should still be put into effect because
- 54:12management, did not ask for an extension on posting it.
- 54:17That's another grievable offense.
- 54:22But you can hire people right now, Westchester down to two
- 54:26subs on two, hold downs. And one PTF for 18 routes, And
- 54:33everybody's being forced in to do.
- 54:38They're drop days except for the former ADR asking piece of shit.
- 54:43Who's now facilitating route adjustments.
- 54:53Are you gonna get these imaginary people from where you
- 54:56going to get these imaginary vehicles from because they're
- 54:58short of vehicles? And where are you going to hire
- 55:01these imaginary people who are going to come in and buy a p o
- 55:04v? You know, if they don't have a
- 55:07mom like Kristen going out there, helping them find the
- 55:09vehicle and the conversion kits and a mechanic that willing to
- 55:13help you out, get it done. Because not everybody has a
- 55:16Christian in their back pocket to help him out.
- 55:21Know the carrier did not get an l o w.
- 55:24They were EP. It litter warning is not
- 55:31required when you EP somebody. The things that they're eating
- 55:38out when doing these. Trout.
- 55:43Inspection bulshit. Christian, it was so bad.
- 55:49That. One of the supervisors.
- 55:53Paul carrier and said, I don't have this carrier's number.
- 55:57Can you call him and tell him they're looking for him?
- 56:03So well, how do you know? Well, they called me and asked
- 56:05for his location. He called the supervisor looking
- 56:08for this, carry his location. before the other carrier could
- 56:13warn him, they got their I'm not saying that's intentional, but
- 56:21it sounds like it's intentional. Now and and the human aspect on
- 56:27it, here's a guy with three kids one's going to college and next
- 56:31year better put that on hold. Yeah, I just had my right along
- 56:37my year, Annual Ride, Along with the supervisor, and it was a
- 56:42latest day of the week, and, of course, got done quickly.
- 56:46You know, didn't have much male didn't have much packages.
- 56:49And, of course, the supervisor sitting back there, bored out of
- 56:51her. Mind passing up packages from
- 56:53the back for me. Which wasn't an accurate
- 56:56reflection of reloading time that it takes me to do things.
- 57:00but, I pass a flying colors and of course, get back to the
- 57:04office and When the next day came I said hey can I get my
- 57:094584 on that one now? forgot to print it out for me,
- 57:13like, she's supposed to So got my 4584.
- 57:17I've got the other sticks that I've had with them.
- 57:20Following me around in their own cars.
- 57:23You know, so, but it shouldn't be like this.
- 57:26We shouldn't be constantly monitored and micro-managed.
- 57:31I can understand the job requirement to do safety
- 57:33observations. I can understand doing the
- 57:36Annual Ride Along. But they are doing so many of
- 57:40them. My question is, is It actually
- 57:43saving the post office money doing.
- 57:49No. Games I I was driving on Lenape
- 57:55Road, delivering one day. And I saw this red Ford Taurus
- 58:00coming up behind me. And I recognized the New York
- 58:05plates because he had the old golden blue New York plates on
- 58:08there. I knew that knew the supervisor.
- 58:11It was driving it. I'm driving along, you know,
- 58:14pretty busy road. Got my four ways on.
- 58:18And I, you know, go up and I service three boxes in the row.
- 58:22They go past me, turn right on Forest Drive, which I have to
- 58:27turn on to as I approached Forest Drive to put my turn
- 58:29signal on. Come up when I pull up behind
- 58:33me, here's the postmaster, getting out of the vehicle.
- 58:36And you know, of course I curb my wheels, turn the vehicle off,
- 58:39put the brake on and I said, what's up?
- 58:42He didn't use your turn signal to reenter reentry the traffic
- 58:47lane there. I said, oh, first of all, I was
- 58:51completely off the road. That says, second of all, you
- 58:54may need to turn on Forest Road before I left the boxes.
- 58:57So you couldn't have possibly seen whether I did or didn't,
- 59:00there was no traffic coming up and forth since you couldn't see
- 59:05it, I did use my turn signal. But that was the kind of shit
- 59:12that they would harass you with. Unfortunately, you know, in in
- 59:16dealing with somebody like me, I'm armed to the teeth before
- 59:19you even get out of the damn car.
- 59:21Oh, you know, Skip back into car and go back to the office where
- 59:25you belong. All right, anything else?
- 59:33I'm gonna raise her space Speed Racer.
- 59:35Yes, you're right, because I have a six-year Steward to calls
- 59:39me up at least once a week. All right, any anything else.
- 59:46Guys for tonight. Or are we good?
- 59:49Wine this down? I'm good.
- 59:53I'm good. All right, you're final word,
- 59:56Sir James. You know, we're in the middle of
- 1:00:01these ratification meetings. And always take everything you
- 1:00:06hear with a green assault. Whether it comes from the
- 1:00:09national board. or from us or from your buddy case, mate next
- 1:00:14to you, Take everything with a grain of salt.
- 1:00:19Do your own research. And see if it's worth it for
- 1:00:23you. I know that calculating out the
- 1:00:26wage increases that I'm going to get with this initial agreement
- 1:00:30with my self-only health insurance.
- 1:00:36I'm still going to be four dollars Less in my paycheck.
- 1:00:42After the tentative agreement is path, due to the increase
- 1:00:47Healthcare cost between last year and this year.
- 1:00:52That's a big no starter for me. but, Some people may see.
- 1:00:58Oh, we're going to get back paid to help cover that up and ask
- 1:01:01good for them. But do your own research and the
- 1:01:06only thing I asked you to do. Is vote on it.
- 1:01:12I don't care if you vote Yes or vote.
- 1:01:15No. All I care about is that you use
- 1:01:18your voice and you vote. Now, I'm planning on going into
- 1:01:23my office and letting them know that For their.
- 1:01:27National delegate palette, and for their gratification ballot,
- 1:01:34I will personally put this postage on their envelope for
- 1:01:37them. To mail it back.
- 1:01:40Because I believe. That vote matters.
- 1:01:45Every single person. Deserves to vote that can vote.
- 1:01:53This is a turning point for our Union.
- 1:01:56Where it's time for us to step up.
- 1:01:59Speak out. And show everybody.
- 1:02:03We're All in This Together. Bill.
- 1:02:07Well, James. Hit a chord there.
- 1:02:12In regards the losing money, despite the increase is because
- 1:02:16of the cost of the health insurance.
- 1:02:19And you got to remember, ladies and gentlemen.
- 1:02:21This is just the cost of the premium.
- 1:02:23This is not the cost of the deductibles.
- 1:02:25This is not the reduction in coverage services.
- 1:02:28This is not the the total mouth for your family deductible for
- 1:02:33the year. As well as the other increases
- 1:02:36for, you know, the cost of living. and if you're in a POV
- 1:02:41and you have a foreign POV right now, I'll let you write know
- 1:02:47right now. My son's getting an engine
- 1:02:49replacing. The Subaru.
- 1:02:50Subaru WRX, it's 8500, it was 6,800.
- 1:02:57Two months ago. But now the tariffs are going
- 1:03:01into effect, it's 8,500. So the four dollars is miniscule
- 1:03:07in what you're actually losing. You have to make up your own
- 1:03:12decisions and James is right. I don't care if you vote.
- 1:03:15Yes, I don't care if you vote for.
- 1:03:16No, I need you to vote exercise, your right to vote.
- 1:03:21This is just like an election for a political party.
- 1:03:24If you don't vote, you have nothing to complain about.
- 1:03:30If you don't exercise the rights given to you by people who have
- 1:03:34laid their lives. Now your political ability to
- 1:03:39vote in or out individuals according to their agenda for
- 1:03:48the country. This is the same thing.
- 1:03:50This is an agenda for our craft. and if you don't vote, Nobody's
- 1:03:57gonna care. Nobody's gonna listen to you.
- 1:04:00And many times you know I had non-union members complain about
- 1:04:04this that and I would say to them join the union.
- 1:04:07All know I'm not getting anything from my money and shut
- 1:04:10up because you don't have the right to bitch if you're not
- 1:04:13willing to participate. If you don't put it in the
- 1:04:18scanner, it doesn't go in your wallet if you're not in the
- 1:04:21Union. Can't change the situation for
- 1:04:25the better. So be involved, get involved.
- 1:04:30In the union so that your voice is heard.
- 1:04:35Assistant. Thanks guys.
- 1:04:38Yeah, excuse me, everybody have a good week.
- 1:04:43Be safe, it's been two weeks. Do everything you do
- 1:04:48professionally, efficiently, and make sure you get your ass home
- 1:04:52to your loved ones because you are the most important delivery
- 1:04:54of the day. Thank you Kristen.
- 1:04:59Yeah, as the guy said, you know, right, officiation ballots are
- 1:05:05coming to a mailbox near you as well, as if you haven't already
- 1:05:10received your State's national delegate ballots, those should
- 1:05:13be arriving shortly as well. So, please just, I mean the most
- 1:05:20simplest. Thing that you can do is to
- 1:05:24vote, you know, both of them. Ratification is a simple.
- 1:05:28Yes, or no, that's your personal choice.
- 1:05:32But please just just vote. I mean, that all I can say on
- 1:05:36that, that's the bare minimum. You can, you can do as I see it
- 1:05:40to be active. Is to vote.
- 1:05:47And then note guys, stay safe out there, everybody, stay
- 1:05:51hydrated. I know whether it's still kind
- 1:05:54of weird and might not get the woods up and down up and down,
- 1:05:56but some areas are getting hot, some areas are still not so hot
- 1:06:01like I am So, on that note guys, stay safe and we'll see you back
- 1:06:07next week.
