- 1:05Speaker 2: Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered.
- 1:09Speaker 4: Like the Patriots could have gone for two and stolen
- 1:11Speaker 4: the game.
- 1:12Speaker 3: At the end, we oh, we just lost our life.
- 1:14Speaker 5: They resigned all my guys again. So you heard that
- 1:16Speaker 5: from Lombardi.
- 1:20Speaker 4: Now we're gonna have Freeze.
- 1:22Speaker 3: Puld out there. It's yeah, so there must be a
- 1:24Speaker 3: lot of grousing, mostly for me.
- 1:26Speaker 6: Honestly, I hate the cold. I'm soft.
- 1:29Speaker 3: It's becoming really easy for them. You know what your window, well,
- 1:34Speaker 3: the windows closing on that prediction. I also just happened.
- 1:37Speaker 6: If you're the division.
- 1:39Speaker 4: Mike was manning the Holy Cross power plays.
- 1:43Speaker 3: That was early in Mike's tenure when Paul was still
- 1:45Speaker 3: upset that I hired a lot.
- 1:49Speaker 5: And now look at us.
- 1:49Speaker 4: I was very much instrumental in Mike's hirer were you
- 1:52Speaker 4: you not so much?
- 1:54Speaker 6: I know that little lighter. Today, some people I think
- 1:57Speaker 6: have actually taken the whole week off for the bye week.
- 2:00Speaker 6: Very nice for them.
- 2:02Speaker 4: Can you imagine this has been having a cover thirteen games?
- 2:05Speaker 4: I mean a lot of Sunday at once. Yeah, it
- 2:08Speaker 4: doesn't get don't get no tougher than that.
- 2:10Speaker 2: This is Patriot's Unfiltered.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Presented by Toyota's official website for deals, buy a Toyota
- 2:16Speaker 1: dot com.
- 2:18Speaker 3: All right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Wednesday here
- 2:22Speaker 3: at Jillette Stadium. The bye week is officially in session.
- 2:26Speaker 3: A lot of people have left the building, not us,
- 2:29Speaker 3: So we're here. We'll be here tomorrow as well. Talking
- 2:33Speaker 3: Patriots got a lot to talk about. Yeah, it's Evan,
- 2:36Speaker 3: it's Paul, it's Deuce, it's me, it's Matt and the booth.
- 2:39Speaker 3: What news do you have?
- 2:40Speaker 4: Patriots made an announcement. Oh yeah, they made it.
- 2:42Speaker 3: Obviously story on Patriots dot com.
- 2:46Speaker 4: Okay, yeah, announcement, but my apologize.
- 2:52Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't I don't think it was like a
- 2:53Speaker 3: press release or anything, but we did have a story
- 2:56Speaker 3: on patriots dot com about the new training facility that
- 3:00Speaker 3: is scheduled to be built for the players and will
- 3:02Speaker 3: be ready, unbelievably to me around spring of twenty twenty six,
- 3:07Speaker 3: which I can't guys get the lawnmower on time at
- 3:12Speaker 3: my house. They're building a you know, multimillion dollar facility
- 3:18Speaker 3: in a year and a half. Year and a half.
- 3:20Speaker 3: That's amazing, but good for them.
- 3:23Speaker 5: Looks pretty sweet, yeah, sweet.
- 3:25Speaker 3: Well what's inside is going to be the sweet part?
- 3:28Speaker 5: State of the art top the bottom. I mean, I
- 3:31Speaker 5: had a little bit of to do with writing the article,
- 3:32Speaker 5: but you know a little bit part of some high
- 3:38Speaker 5: level some high level meetings.
- 3:40Speaker 4: Did you do some digging I did not into But
- 3:43Speaker 4: you wouldn't know that because you were just a blogger
- 3:45Speaker 4: and you didn't go to Joe Notes.
- 3:48Speaker 5: It's true, but I mentioned in psychology, so I know
- 3:50Speaker 5: why you said that.
- 3:51Speaker 3: Interesting, I see.
- 3:53Speaker 6: Right through you.
- 3:54Speaker 5: No, I was just I was going to just highlight,
- 3:56Speaker 5: you know, one of the things, like players be able
- 3:57Speaker 5: to drive right in. I was a you know, a
- 3:59Speaker 5: key piece, and obviously all the other stuff weight room
- 4:01Speaker 5: and opens right out onto the field and all those
- 4:04Speaker 5: things that a lot of these places have. It seems
- 4:06Speaker 5: like they did a lot of research and uh, you know,
- 4:08Speaker 5: it goes back a while with the planning. So no,
- 4:10Speaker 5: it's a it's pretty cool.
- 4:11Speaker 3: I think I heard it wasn't in the story, but
- 4:13Speaker 3: I heard there's going to actually be a barber shop
- 4:15Speaker 3: in there, which I think is great. That's what we
- 4:18Speaker 3: should have our camp.
- 4:18Speaker 4: That didn't that didn't make it in the story, good job,
- 4:21Speaker 4: and a.
- 4:21Speaker 5: Barbershop quartet is what's a cool anecdote.
- 4:25Speaker 4: I may not have told him because he didn't write questions.
- 4:29Speaker 5: He didn't Will there be that that wasn't on my list?
- 4:32Speaker 5: Will be barbers players to get their hair cut in
- 4:35Speaker 5: the facility?
- 4:36Speaker 3: But to me, that's where the content.
- 4:38Speaker 5: I mean, you got massages, haircuts, a lot of hot tubs,
- 4:41Speaker 5: cold tubs.
- 4:42Speaker 3: So not next season, but the season after that they'll
- 4:47Speaker 3: have it in play.
- 4:48Speaker 5: Yeah, in time for the World Cup. I think that
- 4:50Speaker 5: was part of the reason why get them out of
- 4:52Speaker 5: the building trying well. I don't think it's that. I
- 4:54Speaker 5: think just they wanted to be done with all the construction.
- 4:56Speaker 5: You can get it all done by.
- 4:57Speaker 3: That makes sense by the time, because all the world's
- 4:59Speaker 3: coming in twenty twenty.
- 5:00Speaker 5: World Cup descends upon.
- 5:02Speaker 4: Summers games during the summer.
- 5:03Speaker 3: Right, summer twenty twenty six, Right.
- 5:05Speaker 5: Did you like that the people World Cup they're going
- 5:11Speaker 5: to play it when it's thirty figures out and snowing.
- 5:14Speaker 3: Yeah, so that's news. Yeah, that's news.
- 5:17Speaker 4: I feel like I'm under attack.
- 5:20Speaker 3: I was thinking about a call that we had yesterday
- 5:22Speaker 3: to the show. Is it Emery?
- 5:24Speaker 4: Yeah, that Henry in Virginia.
- 5:26Speaker 3: You know, he made me think, and you know, I
- 5:29Speaker 3: think he has he has a point somewhat. I think
- 5:32Speaker 3: on this show, we're gonna you know, we're gonna talk
- 5:34Speaker 3: fairly about the game, you know, what we think went
- 5:37Speaker 3: right and what went wrong, and if something having to
- 5:41Speaker 3: do with a coaching decision we think contributed to a
- 5:44Speaker 3: winner or loss, we're going to say that. So I
- 5:46Speaker 3: think in that respect, you know, we're going to be critical,
- 5:48Speaker 3: but I think we've been fair and I do think
- 5:52Speaker 3: to Emory's point, like it's completely like, if you want
- 5:56Speaker 3: to criticize the craft for the high the way they
- 5:59Speaker 3: hired their head coach, that's fair. You know, they didn't
- 6:01Speaker 3: really interview somebody they made up the decision years ago
- 6:05Speaker 3: and apparently, and okay, I get that criticism, but to
- 6:10Speaker 3: expect someone like Geraride to have all the answers and
- 6:16Speaker 3: never make a mistake, whether it's in a game or
- 6:18Speaker 3: at a press conference the first time doing it, I
- 6:21Speaker 3: think that's unfair. I think that's completely unfair, and I
- 6:25Speaker 3: think this whole thing needs to be fired and all
- 6:28Speaker 3: is unfair. It's unfair. I don't want to be one
- 6:32Speaker 3: of those teams where you're you're going through that carousel
- 6:36Speaker 3: of coaches. No, you know, And I said it after
- 6:39Speaker 3: the postgame, after the yeah, at the postgame show. I
- 6:42Speaker 3: said in the postgame show, if you're a really, if
- 6:45Speaker 3: you really are a Patriots fan and you really do
- 6:47Speaker 3: want them to win, you're praying that he gets it.
- 6:50Speaker 3: But in year two, rather than having to start over
- 6:54Speaker 3: again with a new coach and probably with the whole
- 6:58Speaker 3: new regime.
- 6:59Speaker 5: You know, I think we've had a conversation. I know
- 7:02Speaker 5: I brought it up on this show before. I always
- 7:05Speaker 5: wondered during the Brady time, which and I guess the
- 7:07Speaker 5: Bills just won what they're fifth straight AFC championship, AFCAST Championship,
- 7:11Speaker 5: so you know, the Patriots are kind of in that
- 7:13Speaker 5: position that Buffalo is in now. But I always wondered
- 7:16Speaker 5: those other teams with Buffalo, with the Jets, with Miami,
- 7:18Speaker 5: where they would turnover coaches and quarterbacks. And I didn't
- 7:21Speaker 5: really have like a, oh, this is what they should do.
- 7:23Speaker 5: But I always wondered if, like, do you weather the
- 7:26Speaker 5: storm a little bit and let them stink a tiny bit,
- 7:29Speaker 5: like in order to try to get build something, or
- 7:32Speaker 5: is it more detrimental to just keep turning it over
- 7:34Speaker 5: every couple of years looking for the magic that instantly appears.
- 7:37Speaker 5: You know, I don't know the right answer to that,
- 7:39Speaker 5: but I always just wondered, like, man, it just seems
- 7:41Speaker 5: like it only takes a year of bad of a
- 7:44Speaker 5: bad quarterback and coach that we got to turn it over.
- 7:46Speaker 3: There are no guarantees in this league, in sports, but
- 7:49Speaker 3: in particularly in the NFL. And you know, I'll give
- 7:52Speaker 3: you an example. It's not a coaching example, but I
- 7:54Speaker 3: was pretty darn sure that when the Jets sign Aaron
- 7:58Speaker 3: Rodgers that get him over the hump, that they had
- 8:01Speaker 3: a chance to be the division winners. You know, in
- 8:05Speaker 3: the AFC, let alone make it the playoffs. But you know,
- 8:08Speaker 3: take over the mantle from the Bills. I really thought
- 8:10Speaker 3: that because they had all this talent, and then now
- 8:13Speaker 3: you're adding Aaron Rodgers, and you know, things happened, first
- 8:18Speaker 3: the injury and now his age, and it's just not
- 8:21Speaker 3: working out. So even if the Patriots were to sign
- 8:25Speaker 3: a more qualified coach this year or next year, there's
- 8:28Speaker 3: no guarantee. I'd rather stick it out and see if
- 8:32Speaker 3: if our guy, you know, Gerrod Mayo gets it his
- 8:35Speaker 3: second year and takes that second year leap, and let's
- 8:39Speaker 3: let's let's, you know, stay the course for a little bit.
- 8:42Speaker 5: What were you guys saying about Bill after two thousand
- 8:45Speaker 5: Were they five and eleven that year?
- 8:46Speaker 7: Like?
- 8:46Speaker 8: What was like?
- 8:47Speaker 5: Was it was it similar? Did you feel like they
- 8:49Speaker 5: were building?
- 8:49Speaker 3: I mean, what was it?
- 8:50Speaker 4: He was on the hot seat in two thousand and one.
- 8:52Speaker 4: I don't feel like Fred and I and Brian at
- 8:55Speaker 4: the time. I don't think we were talking about it,
- 8:56Speaker 4: not because we were afraid to talk about it, but
- 8:59Speaker 4: I don't think we felt like there was a you know,
- 9:02Speaker 4: that the team was in position to win. I thought
- 9:04Speaker 4: that they brought in a lot of NFL players that
- 9:06Speaker 4: year and that they would be better. I think we
- 9:09Speaker 4: all thought they would be better. I thought they had
- 9:11Speaker 4: a good camp in a one. And I know it's
- 9:13Speaker 4: kind of cliches that, you know, Evan, my keen eye
- 9:18Speaker 4: noticed how good they could be. No, like, no one
- 9:21Speaker 4: thought that. No, and anybody that tells you that is lying.
- 9:25Speaker 4: But I did think they had a good training camp
- 9:27Speaker 4: in one as compared to two thousand, and I thought
- 9:30Speaker 4: that they would be better. I thought they had a
- 9:32Speaker 4: chance to be like five hundred and maybe in the
- 9:35Speaker 4: mix for a wild card.
- 9:36Speaker 5: Did you feel like that once they started signing players
- 9:38Speaker 5: or did you feel like you got out of the
- 9:40Speaker 5: season in January you felt like, all right, they're gonna
- 9:43Speaker 5: do some stuff this off season.
- 9:44Speaker 4: You know though, like that's where we're coming out the
- 9:46Speaker 4: two thousand season. There wasn't a lot to be excited about.
- 9:49Speaker 3: It wasn't a great and I have to say that,
- 9:51Speaker 3: as you know, in the first two weeks of the season,
- 9:54Speaker 3: I think we were saying, oh.
- 9:56Speaker 4: Oh, no, he was in serious trouble. This is a story.
- 10:00Speaker 4: And I heard on one of my shows that actually
- 10:02Speaker 4: it wasn't on one of my shows was on the
- 10:03Speaker 4: other station. So on Ei, I do I like to
- 10:08Speaker 4: keep a breast, but I think it was the San
- 10:13Speaker 4: Diego game in one early in the year. I think
- 10:17Speaker 4: they were one in three. Maybe it might have been
- 10:20Speaker 4: the game coming back home after the Miami debacle and
- 10:24Speaker 4: they're down ten with like five minutes to go, and
- 10:27Speaker 4: the crowd was brutal, and it was a sloppy game.
- 10:29Speaker 4: It was okay, Mike, just for your edification, Lee Johnson
- 10:35Speaker 4: was the punter. He like mishandled a snap kind of
- 10:38Speaker 4: like served it up, gave the Chargers a touchdown. It
- 10:41Speaker 4: was just sloppy. It was bad football, and it just
- 10:44Speaker 4: looked like this is gonna be a continuation of what
- 10:46Speaker 4: we saw last year. The crowd was a mess, and
- 10:49Speaker 4: I think it was Chris Curtis, one of the producers
- 10:51Speaker 4: on the morning show, was saying he was at that
- 10:53Speaker 4: game and it was so bad that Belichick's kids at
- 10:57Speaker 4: the time don't now they're adults, and their coaches at
- 11:01Speaker 4: the time they were just kids. They had to leave
- 11:03Speaker 4: the stands and go into like the the old superbox
- 11:08Speaker 4: to get away from the crowd. That's how bad it was,
- 11:11Speaker 4: how unruly the fans were. They wanted him out. The
- 11:14Speaker 4: fans would definitely call him for his job, and from
- 11:16Speaker 4: day one, and then they came back and won that
- 11:18Speaker 4: game when he was hired, because Brady.
- 11:21Speaker 3: He had his haters from day one. You know Kevin
- 11:24Speaker 3: Mannix and you know people.
- 11:27Speaker 4: Kevin Mannix called Bill to plicit this Ponds come before
- 11:29Speaker 4: you took the job.
- 11:30Speaker 3: Before we even had the job, and you were on
- 11:33Speaker 3: that show when he called it to him, No, was
- 11:35Speaker 3: you borgeous with with Ted Saranda's but they read that article. Yeah, yeah,
- 11:43Speaker 3: and Paul's like, come on, you know, can we I
- 11:47Speaker 3: think that's a little strong.
- 11:49Speaker 4: I think I think that's exactly what I said.
- 11:51Speaker 3: Yeah, I was listening there.
- 11:53Speaker 4: I think I said, I love Kevin, but I think that's.
- 11:55Speaker 3: A little strong. I felt bad for you that night.
- 11:58Speaker 5: I was listening and it's an interesting contrast.
- 12:00Speaker 3: But I put you on that show. Don't you ever
- 12:03Speaker 3: forget I gave you your start on Ken You gave
- 12:07Speaker 3: me because he was always asking for me, And I said,
- 12:09Speaker 3: why don't you have Paul?
- 12:10Speaker 4: You just can't somehow you just can't get me like
- 12:13Speaker 4: a real job. But you've done everything for me. Absolutely,
- 12:17Speaker 4: you just make everybody else there king.
- 12:19Speaker 5: Right, It's a it's it's such an interesting contrast. Because
- 12:22Speaker 5: Patriot is here there, you still have that, we have that,
- 12:26Speaker 5: we have other things.
- 12:27Speaker 3: Oh my god, but where's all the other stuff? Wow?
- 12:29Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm stunned.
- 12:32Speaker 3: Just an interesting you know, metroplex.
- 12:36Speaker 4: Bill had a.
- 12:37Speaker 5: Whole experience in Cleveland, so the fans already were predisposed
- 12:40Speaker 5: to and Geron's exactly the opposite. He's got no experience,
- 12:43Speaker 5: so they, you know, they have nothing to really glom
- 12:45Speaker 5: onto other than his inexperience.
- 12:47Speaker 6: You know, I feel like that's why, as much as
- 12:51Speaker 6: it's cool to hear the stories, like Bill was a
- 12:54Speaker 6: coach already in Cleveland, so like he had all this
- 12:56Speaker 6: experience already at that point that Gerad doesn't have. And
- 13:00Speaker 6: I know when I look at try to find comps
- 13:03Speaker 6: and things like that, like Dan Campbell is really the
- 13:06Speaker 6: best comp of a guy was never a coordinator at
- 13:10Speaker 6: any level of football, got the job in Detroit. You
- 13:14Speaker 6: know when three thirteen and.
- 13:15Speaker 3: One got criticized right away for being unorthodox, not having
- 13:20Speaker 3: the best press conferences.
- 13:21Speaker 6: He caps right out of the gate. I mean I
- 13:23Speaker 6: was one of them, manned up, what's this guy talking about?
- 13:26Speaker 3: Emotional?
- 13:27Speaker 6: Yeah? And then he's going forward on fourth down seven
- 13:30Speaker 6: times here six times, whatever it was, and he got better.
- 13:34Speaker 6: And I was thinking the same thing because I was
- 13:35Speaker 6: listening to one of Paul's shows yesterday to listen to
- 13:37Speaker 6: a to Bitard spot on Felger and Maz and you know,
- 13:41Speaker 6: they were talking about the best openings potentially in the
- 13:45Speaker 6: NFL and saying that the Patriots would be in their mind.
- 13:49Speaker 6: Even Felger said it the best opening because they have
- 13:52Speaker 6: a franchise quarterback, they're gonna have another top five, top
- 13:55Speaker 6: ten pick in the draft, and about one hundred and
- 13:58Speaker 6: thirty million dollars in cap space to go out and
- 14:00Speaker 6: build this team around Drake May. And you just hope
- 14:04Speaker 6: that Girod takes these experiences from this year and learns
- 14:08Speaker 6: from it. If he keeps on repeating the same errors
- 14:11Speaker 6: that he's repeating now, I don't necessarily hold it against
- 14:15Speaker 6: him that he's doing it as a rookie head coach.
- 14:17Speaker 6: But if we get into next year and he's still
- 14:19Speaker 6: not managing the clock right and he's still they're still
- 14:22Speaker 6: not buttoned up in certain areas and all that kind
- 14:24Speaker 6: of stuff, then we changed the conversation. But as a
- 14:27Speaker 6: Patriots fan, all you can hope for right now is
- 14:29Speaker 6: that these are all learning experiences for him in year one,
- 14:33Speaker 6: and he gets better as he goes.
- 14:35Speaker 3: So what I'm saying is, let's be patient. If you're
- 14:38Speaker 3: talking firefirefire, take your OD mail's name out your mouth.
- 14:42Speaker 4: And just in fairness, we're not nor have we ever
- 14:46Speaker 4: talked about now pulling the plug after one season? No,
- 14:50Speaker 4: not he make any of the four of us think
- 14:51Speaker 4: that that should happen.
- 14:52Speaker 3: But God knows it's happened.
- 14:53Speaker 4: But it is happening with the fans, no, no question
- 14:56Speaker 4: about it. And some of my shows I'm sure would
- 14:59Speaker 4: like to move on to. But I think there's some
- 15:03Speaker 4: some issues with the rookie coach, but not ones that
- 15:06Speaker 4: I want to you know, I go back to Mike's
- 15:08Speaker 4: point about you know, the the AFC East all those years,
- 15:13Speaker 4: and you know, you can look back and you can say, well,
- 15:16Speaker 4: you know the guys that cycled out quickly, you know
- 15:21Speaker 4: how many of those guys were unfit? You know, was
- 15:23Speaker 4: it did it turn out to be unf And there's
- 15:26Speaker 4: probably a few, you know, but like you know, Buffalo
- 15:28Speaker 4: was like you know, when Marv Levy left, it was
- 15:30Speaker 4: like you know, Dick Jaron, Mike Malarkey, you know, like
- 15:36Speaker 4: I would say Doug Marone was probably a guy that
- 15:39Speaker 4: maybe deserved a little bit more time. And then when
- 15:42Speaker 4: he went to Jacksonville, he did a pretty good job.
- 15:44Speaker 4: He got Jacksonville, you know, within a blank of the
- 15:47Speaker 4: Super Bowl here in that with the AFC Championship game,
- 15:52Speaker 4: maybe he was a little bit better. But you know,
- 15:55Speaker 4: think about some of the guys Sam Cameron in Miami,
- 15:58Speaker 4: like there.
- 16:00Speaker 3: Was a lot of bad higher you know it when
- 16:02Speaker 3: it's really but like even Pete Carroll here, he was
- 16:05Speaker 3: he had an unfair situation. I think if the crafts,
- 16:09Speaker 3: you know, hadn't been you know, so traumatized by parcels
- 16:13Speaker 3: and you know, wanted to have a hand in thing
- 16:15Speaker 3: and there were just too many masters here when Carol
- 16:19Speaker 3: was here. I think if he was given more authority
- 16:21Speaker 3: right from day one, I think he would have turned
- 16:23Speaker 3: into a good coach for the Patriots right now, of
- 16:25Speaker 3: course he turned into a good coach overall, but I
- 16:30Speaker 3: think that's an example of like it just wasn't he
- 16:33Speaker 3: wasn't given the right support.
- 16:35Speaker 5: That's such an interesting example. It didn't even occur to
- 16:37Speaker 5: me that the Patriots probably are the best example of that.
- 16:39Speaker 5: I mean, not in the same way, but that they
- 16:41Speaker 5: actually had a coach who was a really went on
- 16:43Speaker 5: to be a really good coach, but it didn't work
- 16:46Speaker 5: out here for whatever reason. Those other teams, Like to
- 16:48Speaker 5: Paul's point, it's hard to find those guys like, you know, oh,
- 16:51Speaker 5: they had Andy Reid for a little bit, they got
- 16:53Speaker 5: you know, right now, there's.
- 16:54Speaker 4: Not you know, and and Doug Morone is certainly not.
- 16:57Speaker 4: I think if you pulled one hundred NFL fans, you
- 17:00Speaker 4: would get a very small percentage and say, yeah, yeah,
- 17:02Speaker 4: Buffalo should have hung on to Doug Moron, Like what's
- 17:05Speaker 4: the difference. Yeah, I mean, I don't think he was
- 17:07Speaker 4: like Andy Reid that there.
- 17:08Speaker 8: Let go.
- 17:08Speaker 3: If you go back in time, you know, to the
- 17:10Speaker 3: olden days, there's a lot of great coaches whose first
- 17:13Speaker 3: year was terrible.
- 17:14Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, I mean that's the famous thing, you know,
- 17:17Speaker 4: like Bill Walsh, Bill Parcells, Tom Landry, Chuck Nole, like
- 17:22Speaker 4: all these guys were you know, three and thirteen esque
- 17:27Speaker 4: in their first years. Jimmy Johnson one in fifteen. Yea.
- 17:30Speaker 4: You know, there was a lot of really good coaches
- 17:32Speaker 4: that did not have success right away.
- 17:34Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 17:34Speaker 6: With that said, though, I do feel like the football
- 17:37Speaker 6: criticisms of Girod that we've gotten are totally.
- 17:41Speaker 3: And I'm sure that you know that's what he needs
- 17:44Speaker 3: to learn.
- 17:44Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean I feel like that part of it
- 17:46Speaker 6: is totally warranted. But I am surprised a little bit
- 17:50Speaker 6: by the press conference stuff and like how just angry
- 17:55Speaker 6: people get over the things that he says in press conferences.
- 17:59Speaker 4: I am amused by that. Also.
- 18:02Speaker 6: I don't care like it just it doesn't matter to me.
- 18:05Speaker 6: It didn't matter to me that Bill said nothing, and
- 18:07Speaker 6: it doesn't matter to me how Girod handles Paly.
- 18:10Speaker 3: I care a little bit. I care a little bit
- 18:12Speaker 3: because you want your head coach to exude confidence, you know,
- 18:19Speaker 3: And he said it himself. I actually speak to my
- 18:22Speaker 3: players through the press conferences, not if that's right, wrong, yeah,
- 18:25Speaker 3: but I don't like case. I don't want my players
- 18:28Speaker 3: seeing me screw up like that.
- 18:29Speaker 6: Right, So he's screwing up like.
- 18:33Speaker 3: The major stuff, But it doesn't it doesn't.
- 18:36Speaker 6: Like his answers doesn't mean he's screwed up.
- 18:39Speaker 3: No, no, fair enough, but you know what, it's not
- 18:43Speaker 3: like smooth literally yeah yeah, yeah, Well.
- 18:46Speaker 4: I mean I understand Evan's point, and I kind of
- 18:48Speaker 4: agree with Evan, like, I don't really care what you say.
- 18:52Speaker 4: But what I do think Bill was better than Gerard
- 18:55Speaker 4: in terms of the press conference was Bill was really consistent, right,
- 18:59Speaker 4: and I think Gerard has been a little scattered. Agree
- 19:02Speaker 4: like it doesn't like people get really up in arms,
- 19:04Speaker 4: like he says too much, Mike, who might that be
- 19:08Speaker 4: my buddy Tony who I'm going to see later on today?
- 19:10Speaker 4: Like he just he's I don't care that he says
- 19:12Speaker 4: too much because I don't really think these things decide
- 19:16Speaker 4: football games. I never agreed with Bill like we can't
- 19:19Speaker 4: say anything because we're giving the other team an advantage.
- 19:21Speaker 3: No, you're not, well the other thing reason, but the.
- 19:24Speaker 4: Way that Gerard seems to like say one thing on
- 19:26Speaker 4: Sunday and a totally different thing on Monday. To your point,
- 19:30Speaker 4: if he's trying to talk to his team right, well
- 19:32Speaker 4: now he's given a mixed message to his team, and
- 19:35Speaker 4: I just like, like button it down a little bit.
- 19:37Speaker 3: Be more concis beyond the competitive stuff. Bill never wanted
- 19:40Speaker 3: to be painted into a corner, and he never wanted
- 19:43Speaker 3: to say something that he'd have to take back at
- 19:46Speaker 3: some point. So he's very careful that nothing ever would
- 19:50Speaker 3: come back to him or come back at him, you know,
- 19:53Speaker 3: And so in order to do that through countless press conferences,
- 19:59Speaker 3: you have to be like Bill is, like you don't
- 20:01Speaker 3: say anything.
- 20:02Speaker 5: I just want your odd to lose the self awareness
- 20:04Speaker 5: in the press conferences, like doing things like all right,
- 20:06Speaker 5: it's Wednesday, so you guys know, of course I'm going
- 20:08Speaker 5: to give you a rent, like just do it, just
- 20:10Speaker 5: do it, you know. I think some of those things
- 20:13Speaker 5: are so self aware. Like you said, I talk to
- 20:15Speaker 5: the team sometimes through the media, like we know, like
- 20:17Speaker 5: you know, I just he doesn't need to be that
- 20:19Speaker 5: self aware. Just get up there, deliver the message, and
- 20:21Speaker 5: you know, I'm sure he'll grow a lot over the
- 20:24Speaker 5: off season.
- 20:25Speaker 3: Speaking of coaches, this was an email. It's been sitting
- 20:29Speaker 3: in the podcast at Patriots dot com box for a while,
- 20:32Speaker 3: but I thought it was a good email. You may
- 20:35Speaker 3: guys may not agree with it, but this is from
- 20:40Speaker 3: Deep in Seattle, Washington. Deep. It's fun. Yeah, and he's
- 20:45Speaker 3: a big fan. But you talk about balluminatis and Bill
- 20:48Speaker 3: Bobo's a lot. I'd like to introduce a new phrase,
- 20:51Speaker 3: bild derangement disorder aka b d D. Who has BDD?
- 20:56Speaker 3: You asked one people who dismissed critics of the current
- 20:59Speaker 3: Mayo Van Pell Covington Wolf regime as balluminatis, Fred Kersh.
- 21:04Speaker 3: Two people who think it was easy last year for
- 21:07Speaker 3: Belichick's Patriots because they played backup quarterbacks, but playing the
- 21:11Speaker 3: thirty first hardest schedule this year shouldn't be mentioned in
- 21:14Speaker 3: terms of easiness. Paul Parrillo. Three people who think Michael
- 21:19Speaker 3: I know it's okay. Three people who think mich Lombardi
- 21:23Speaker 3: can't criticize the Patriots. Lombardi himself hasn't achieved anything big
- 21:27Speaker 3: for the game, but somehow they can constantly criticize Bill
- 21:31Speaker 3: without achieving anything themselves in the NFL. Again the esteem
- 21:34Speaker 3: Paul Parillo. Four people who commented early this year that
- 21:39Speaker 3: Bill slipped as a defensive mind as well, and Covington
- 21:42Speaker 3: brings a fresh new approach, which they have conveniently forgotten
- 21:45Speaker 3: now Evan Lazarre and five people who wanted Patricia gone
- 21:49Speaker 3: after four games in twenty twenty two because of his
- 21:52Speaker 3: lack of experience, but ecstatic to give Mayo three years
- 21:55Speaker 3: because of the same reason. Mike dos So, you have
- 21:59Speaker 3: tart and feathered one of the best coaches of all
- 22:01Speaker 3: time out of Boston last year you won. Maybe stop
- 22:05Speaker 3: the constant Bill bashing and look forward a bit more.
- 22:08Speaker 3: That said, love you all. Let me know how I
- 22:09Speaker 3: can buy you all a meal of your choice by
- 22:12Speaker 3: never emailing again.
- 22:14Speaker 4: Now, I say all the time, I like the back
- 22:18Speaker 4: and forth. I like debate. That's what I do best,
- 22:22Speaker 4: I argue. I would just say, how does the kool
- 22:27Speaker 4: aid taste?
- 22:28Speaker 8: Like?
- 22:28Speaker 4: You are the epitome of what we're talking about. Like,
- 22:34Speaker 4: I have not mentioned how easy this schedule is this.
- 22:36Speaker 3: Year, right, it turned out to be a very easy schedule.
- 22:40Speaker 4: They've played two teams through thirteen games that have just
- 22:43Speaker 4: a winning record, let alone good teams.
- 22:46Speaker 3: And I heard you on the radio say the same thing, Like.
- 22:48Speaker 4: Two teams with a winning record. One of them is Seattle,
- 22:52Speaker 4: who is as average as average can be, and Houston
- 22:55Speaker 4: has been kind of a disappointment. Those are that's it.
- 22:58Speaker 4: Those are the two quote unquote good teams you've played.
- 23:02Speaker 4: I don't think I've dismissed that that fact. No, Like
- 23:06Speaker 4: so you're just kind of like making stuff up. Now
- 23:08Speaker 4: the Lombardy thing, I'll wear that proudly. Lombardi is in
- 23:11Speaker 4: Bill's pocket, and nothing he says is to be believed.
- 23:16Speaker 4: Like now all of a sudden, we're supposed to like
- 23:18Speaker 4: take Mike Lombardi as god.
- 23:20Speaker 3: But I can't understand why he's in his pocket. He
- 23:22Speaker 3: owes Bill every sure, you know, sure.
- 23:25Speaker 4: He owes his career to Bill, right and all other
- 23:28Speaker 4: great guys like Bill Walsh and Al Davis right right.
- 23:33Speaker 5: I'm sorry, I'm kind of disappointed with mine. I felt
- 23:35Speaker 5: like he just not needed to include me. I don't
- 23:37Speaker 5: think I was the big like fire Patricia guy, But
- 23:39Speaker 5: why didn't he say you were the hoodie guy you
- 23:40Speaker 5: love Bill and now you don't like Bill. That would
- 23:42Speaker 5: have been a better one for me. Deep, But that's
- 23:44Speaker 5: all right.
- 23:44Speaker 6: I also just feel like yesterday I said that they're
- 23:47Speaker 6: gonna have to ask some tough questions about DeMarcus Covington.
- 23:50Speaker 6: So I'm not sure how I haven't called out that
- 23:53Speaker 6: the coaching on the defense has not been very good
- 23:56Speaker 6: this year either, So but I get it. We can
- 23:59Speaker 6: take it to we can take it.
- 24:02Speaker 5: They're a three win team this year. They were a
- 24:04Speaker 5: three year win three win team last year with Bill, like,
- 24:08Speaker 5: we're trying to get to the bottom of it, and
- 24:09Speaker 5: we'll say with.
- 24:10Speaker 3: Wolf, you know, like, but and I've said about Wolf before,
- 24:15Speaker 3: the only one like we think that you know, this
- 24:18Speaker 3: is the first year of him doing it on his own,
- 24:21Speaker 3: like he was under Bill's thumb the other years. What
- 24:24Speaker 3: we don't know is how much latitude Bill actually gave
- 24:27Speaker 3: guys like Matt grow and Elliott Wolf. So we don't know.
- 24:30Speaker 3: Who does know is Robert Kraft, and he's the one
- 24:35Speaker 3: when it comes to Elliott, we'll have to make that
- 24:38Speaker 3: tough decision. Like no, Elliott, he knows what he's doing
- 24:42Speaker 3: or or he doesn't. We don't have that information. But
- 24:46Speaker 3: if you ask me right now, I say, you know,
- 24:48Speaker 3: give Elliott the same latitude you're giving Girod. Like you know,
- 24:53Speaker 3: this was his first year on his own. Let him
- 24:57Speaker 3: go through this offseason, you know, with a head of steam,
- 25:00Speaker 3: and let's see what happens.
- 25:02Speaker 4: Certainly wasn't an advocate that Bill needed to go in
- 25:05Speaker 4: twenty twenty, like Brady left. They looked awful in twenty twenty.
- 25:11Speaker 4: And I wasn't sitting there telling you he needs to go.
- 25:14Speaker 4: He's done.
- 25:14Speaker 3: No one said that.
- 25:15Speaker 4: You gave him the latitude to try to fix it.
- 25:18Speaker 4: Now he needs to rebuild. By twenty twenty three, when
- 25:22Speaker 4: it's really not any better to wonder can this guy
- 25:26Speaker 4: rebuild it without Brady? Right? You know that? And I
- 25:30Speaker 4: think that's all. And most of my criticism with Bill
- 25:33Speaker 4: always includes the preamble of if he's the best coach
- 25:35Speaker 4: I've ever seen?
- 25:36Speaker 3: Right, So I don't.
- 25:38Speaker 4: Really feel like I need to wear the you ran
- 25:42Speaker 4: Bill out of town. I mean, look, that wasn't me. Like,
- 25:45Speaker 4: I don't think you did a good job.
- 25:47Speaker 3: Let's fast a few years Tom Brady covered up a
- 25:50Speaker 3: lot of deficient human spackle. But so did Bill. When
- 25:54Speaker 3: it came to running an organization. You didn't have to
- 25:56Speaker 3: as an owner. You didn't have to worry about your
- 25:58Speaker 3: GM or all. What Bill took care of everything. You
- 26:03Speaker 3: deal with him right one point of contact. It may
- 26:07Speaker 3: it makes things simpler now. He wasn't a simple person
- 26:10Speaker 3: to deal with, no, Like, there's no doubt about that.
- 26:13Speaker 4: He was a great coach.
- 26:14Speaker 3: But as long as things were good, you put up
- 26:17Speaker 3: with it, you know. But I think things were going
- 26:20Speaker 3: in the wrong direction.
- 26:21Speaker 4: It's a good email, though, because right off of what
- 26:23Speaker 4: we're talking about with Mayo sort of the side of it. Yeah,
- 26:26Speaker 4: I like that.
- 26:27Speaker 6: We're just like grown to accept the fact that they're
- 26:30Speaker 6: going to be back next year. So like, I just
- 26:33Speaker 6: don't see a path that I know people, some people
- 26:37Speaker 6: like like Deep want us to sit here and call
- 26:39Speaker 6: for their jobs, and it just it doesn't it's not
- 26:42Speaker 6: logical for us to do that because it's not going
- 26:44Speaker 6: to happen. Like barring something completely the fairy is happening,
- 26:48Speaker 6: they're not going to lose their job.
- 26:49Speaker 4: But I also don't think it should happen.
- 26:51Speaker 6: No, don't.
- 26:51Speaker 4: I thought it should, and I didn't think it was
- 26:53Speaker 4: going to I would rail against it. Yeah, I mean,
- 26:56Speaker 4: I'm not a shrinking.
- 26:57Speaker 3: Let or if nothing else, we would kind of we'd.
- 26:59Speaker 4: Dance around, right, you know, Like but if I thought
- 27:02Speaker 4: that he really deserved to lose his job, I think
- 27:06Speaker 4: that I would be more critical. Yeah, you know, I
- 27:08Speaker 4: mean I thought.
- 27:08Speaker 3: That we'd be talking about the reason this.
- 27:10Speaker 4: Time last year, Like I was saying, this has got
- 27:13Speaker 4: to be it for Bill. Yeah, and I didn't know
- 27:16Speaker 4: he was losing his job. But I believe me, I
- 27:18Speaker 4: didn't know that that was happening. So I think that
- 27:22Speaker 4: we kind of call it like we see it the
- 27:24Speaker 4: best we can. Obviously we have some limitations.
- 27:26Speaker 3: Yeah, So I thought that was a good email, well
- 27:29Speaker 3: thought out. We don't have to agree with ever anything
- 27:31Speaker 3: but good good email. Dan writes in this is about
- 27:34Speaker 3: the new training facility that the story on Patriots dot
- 27:37Speaker 3: com today. If you haven't already seen it, it's out there.
- 27:39Speaker 4: It's Mike, one of my's finest people.
- 27:42Speaker 3: I didn't know.
- 27:42Speaker 4: I didn't fully, I just didn't get into the barbershop.
- 27:45Speaker 3: But I smell a pulitzer, Yes, I really do.
- 27:49Speaker 5: I'll probably have to share it with a few people.
- 27:51Speaker 4: I think me I knew nothing about it.
- 27:53Speaker 3: I think it's very cool that the Patriots are building
- 27:55Speaker 3: a new facility. Just because I know our NFL grading
- 27:58Speaker 3: wasn't the best. Well, that's not fair. But that said,
- 28:00Speaker 3: can we please get new uniforms as well? I'm tired
- 28:03Speaker 3: of the look and I think we need a big
- 28:05Speaker 3: change where we have a variety of uniforms like the
- 28:08Speaker 3: Chargers and Broncos. I agree, Okay, I agree.
- 28:12Speaker 8: I'd like to.
- 28:13Speaker 5: See some looks that match, that looked like they were
- 28:16Speaker 5: constructed and conceived together. The pants, the shirt, they go together.
- 28:22Speaker 6: You want to match, not too matching. Email, that's a
- 28:25Speaker 6: lot to ask for. Stripes are off the you don't
- 28:28Speaker 6: want to wear the white jersey with the silver pants.
- 28:31Speaker 3: I don't mind that one.
- 28:32Speaker 5: I don't mind that one. I don't I like that
- 28:33Speaker 5: one better than the regular one.
- 28:35Speaker 6: I don't really understand it.
- 28:36Speaker 4: He's a walking contradiction.
- 28:37Speaker 6: I don't I don't know it.
- 28:38Speaker 4: Every time Bluberries have every time we wear them, I
- 28:42Speaker 4: say they don't match, that the pants look dirty, and
- 28:44Speaker 4: he's like, no, I don't mind it. I don't mind
- 28:46Speaker 4: they don't look but you put those pants on with
- 28:48Speaker 4: the other shirts and the stripes don't match.
- 28:50Speaker 5: And he goes, but listen, just like those uniforms right
- 28:52Speaker 5: in back of Paul. Those gotta come back, those ones
- 28:55Speaker 5: right there.
- 28:55Speaker 4: I like it when that John Hanna has winning.
- 28:57Speaker 5: No, no, no, no, that's that's the best uniform.
- 29:00Speaker 6: When they wear the when they wear the Blueberry jersey.
- 29:04Speaker 4: No, I don't like that one.
- 29:05Speaker 5: You like the red top, white bottom?
- 29:07Speaker 3: Is that what it is?
- 29:07Speaker 4: Which one? I like the seventies, not the eighties, but
- 29:10Speaker 4: we wear throwbacks. We wear eighties throwbacks. I don't like those.
- 29:13Speaker 6: When they wear the blueberry jersey with the silver pants.
- 29:17Speaker 6: Now we're talking. I like that looks, just don't like
- 29:19Speaker 6: the stripes. That's that's the problem. But the white that's
- 29:24Speaker 6: a bridge far from but the white with the silver,
- 29:27Speaker 6: which is clearly two different sets of jerseys.
- 29:29Speaker 4: Fred Closer, they we really go in five grown.
- 29:34Speaker 3: Men in uniforms. It's unbelievable. Only Bruce, only Bruce Springstein
- 29:40Speaker 3: gets more out of grown men.
- 29:41Speaker 4: So I will say, like, did you every once in
- 29:43Speaker 4: a while when you put on a game and you know,
- 29:45Speaker 4: like the TV's are so good too, like they just
- 29:48Speaker 4: like it's like so sharp, and the uniforms pop. Monday night,
- 29:54Speaker 4: Cleveland had like the orange pants on. I was like, ah,
- 29:58Speaker 4: that's just like they just look good. Now, Mike has
- 30:01Speaker 4: been making a comment about the Broncos uniforms all year
- 30:05Speaker 4: that I couldn't agree more with, Like I don't even
- 30:07Speaker 4: know what the team is, right, like they look so different.
- 30:11Speaker 4: But the colors that just popped off your screen Monday night,
- 30:15Speaker 4: that was pretty cool.
- 30:16Speaker 3: It was sharp. It's funny though, because people, you know,
- 30:19Speaker 3: the colors when they're sharp, people like it. But then
- 30:22Speaker 3: oh I love the colts old traditional uniform. You know
- 30:25Speaker 3: people you get that too when when it's like really drab,
- 30:30Speaker 3: Oh yeah, but that's traditional. I really like clean. Yeah, yeah,
- 30:35Speaker 3: I don't know, it's different different for different fas.
- 30:38Speaker 5: Yeah, sports fashion.
- 30:39Speaker 3: What are you going to do?
- 30:40Speaker 4: What uniforms around the league do you like?
- 30:42Speaker 8: Mike?
- 30:43Speaker 3: Oh, the powder blue?
- 30:45Speaker 5: No, I don't like that.
- 30:46Speaker 4: I like the classics.
- 30:47Speaker 5: I like the classics. I like, you know, I just
- 30:49Speaker 5: I love seeing the Steelers and the Packers and the
- 30:52Speaker 5: forty nine ers and I turned the TV on and
- 30:54Speaker 5: those are the teams I've been watching since I were kids,
- 30:56Speaker 5: and now are they great? Uniforms are not? Probably not?
- 30:59Speaker 5: But like I don't know, I just I want to
- 31:01Speaker 5: turn on the TV to the Broncos thing and know
- 31:03Speaker 5: what teams are playing. And I feel like I'm watching
- 31:05Speaker 5: the NFL. I'm not watching be in a league team
- 31:07Speaker 5: with you know, they've got like a Fusia alternative uniform today,
- 31:10Speaker 5: and you know I don't need all that, like I like.
- 31:12Speaker 6: So you don't like the new Celtics uniforms?
- 31:14Speaker 3: What you're saying?
- 31:15Speaker 4: No one does?
- 31:15Speaker 3: So after our game? After our game? Uh was it
- 31:21Speaker 3: this week? I think Dallas was on the late game
- 31:25Speaker 3: and Westwood One was Thanksgiving? Okay, so so that was
- 31:29Speaker 3: it must have been after the Thanksgiving game. I was
- 31:31Speaker 3: driving home and Westwood One had the game and the
- 31:35Speaker 3: announcer of that game on two different occasions, made it
- 31:39Speaker 3: a point to down to the stripe detail each team's uniform.
- 31:44Speaker 3: Did you happen to hear that? Oh my god? It
- 31:47Speaker 3: was like really on the call it was it was
- 31:50Speaker 3: Giants Dallas, right, yes, yeah, so you know the Giants
- 31:52Speaker 3: are wearing this that that they have the bold stripe,
- 31:55Speaker 3: the blue stripe going down the helmet, and it's like really.
- 32:00Speaker 4: Yeah, oh painting a picture. Yeah, I was trying to
- 32:03Speaker 4: capture the spirit.
- 32:03Speaker 3: Of the uh. Chad in La in response to the
- 32:08Speaker 3: email defending Bill, why can't we love Bill for what
- 32:11Speaker 3: he did and be happy he's gone. We would not
- 32:14Speaker 3: have May if Bill was still was still here. A
- 32:16Speaker 3: lot of people have said that. I don't know if
- 32:18Speaker 3: it's true, if you know, Bill would not have taken him, but.
- 32:21Speaker 4: It's probably true, But it is kind of becoming fact, right,
- 32:25Speaker 4: you know.
- 32:26Speaker 6: That's not why I I don't think that that's the
- 32:30Speaker 6: reason why Bill wasn't the right guy for the job
- 32:32Speaker 6: moving forward, you know what I mean?
- 32:34Speaker 4: Like, I know, I don't think he was doing a
- 32:35Speaker 4: good job.
- 32:36Speaker 6: Yeah, Like, I don't think it anything to do with
- 32:38Speaker 6: though we wouldn't have May. It just the roster is
- 32:41Speaker 6: what deteriorated and the record was.
- 32:43Speaker 4: But I do like the you know, like the two
- 32:45Speaker 4: things can be true. Yeah, you know, like you can
- 32:47Speaker 4: think that I can think that that Bill was a
- 32:50Speaker 4: great coach and that he needed to lose his job.
- 32:52Speaker 4: Why like, why can't those two things be true at
- 32:55Speaker 4: the same time.
- 32:55Speaker 3: That's my Like, I'm grateful for everything he's ever done.
- 32:59Speaker 3: Think he's the greatest coach, but it was time. I mean,
- 33:04Speaker 3: both things, both things can be true, you know.
- 33:07Speaker 5: I just wonder, like, in hindsight, I think about this
- 33:10Speaker 5: a little bit. It's like, what was the quarterback move
- 33:12Speaker 5: for him? Whether it was twenty twenty, twenty twenty one,
- 33:14Speaker 5: Like if you could go if he could go back
- 33:16Speaker 5: and rewind it and put a quarterback like Aaron Rodgers
- 33:19Speaker 5: or Kirk Cousins or a lot of those names that
- 33:21Speaker 5: we talked about as free agents, Like would anyone have
- 33:23Speaker 5: been able to prevent the downslide that kind of happened.
- 33:27Speaker 5: I mean, I know that the support system that he
- 33:29Speaker 5: installed around the quarterback was not ideal anyway, So any
- 33:32Speaker 5: quarterback Kirk Cousins, you know, Aaron Rodgers with are probably
- 33:35Speaker 5: not gonna work out that great, But I just I
- 33:38Speaker 5: just wonder what was the move, what was the move
- 33:40Speaker 5: in hindsight for him?
- 33:41Speaker 4: Like, but I think that's part of why Bill needed
- 33:43Speaker 4: to go. Yeah, because I really think the cliche of
- 33:47Speaker 4: Bill not believing that you needed that guy, right that
- 33:51Speaker 4: quarterback is true at heart. Now, if somehow Aaron Rodgers
- 33:55Speaker 4: was available in twenty twenty and Bill got him, I
- 33:57Speaker 4: think they would have continued to win. But like just
- 34:02Speaker 4: believing you can plug anybody in, and a lot of
- 34:04Speaker 4: people believe this, by the way, I know, like my
- 34:06Speaker 4: shows are always deemed to be like over the top negative.
- 34:09Speaker 4: We still make fun of felgerf for thinking they were
- 34:11Speaker 4: going to go twelve and four with Brian Hoyer and
- 34:14Speaker 4: win the division, right Like he felt like he believed
- 34:17Speaker 4: that that what Bill believed, like this the structural systems
- 34:22Speaker 4: place is everything and it will just be continuing to
- 34:26Speaker 4: win and kind of dismissing the importance of Brady. Obviously
- 34:30Speaker 4: didn't work out that way, but I think that Bill
- 34:32Speaker 4: thought it would.
- 34:33Speaker 5: Did you ever talk to Horror about that he's been
- 34:35Speaker 5: popping around here shooting his videos, No, because.
- 34:38Speaker 4: I think that's you know, it's a little probably a
- 34:40Speaker 4: little negative I just.
- 34:41Speaker 6: Think the biggest thing to me with Bill was that
- 34:43Speaker 6: he he lost that ability to stay one step ahead
- 34:46Speaker 6: of what was happening around him, like he for years
- 34:50Speaker 6: and years he was so good at being trendy, yeah,
- 34:55Speaker 6: or just like you know, being ahead of the curve
- 34:57Speaker 6: on so many things personnel wise too, like this guy
- 35:01Speaker 6: is starting to get older, that this guy is starting
- 35:03Speaker 6: to phase out, like we have the next guy, whether
- 35:05Speaker 6: it was coaching staff, whether it was players, whatever. And
- 35:08Speaker 6: then they got to twenty nineteen and Brady left. There
- 35:12Speaker 6: was no quarterback plan, right, like the planet quarterback was
- 35:15Speaker 6: was what Jared's did him. We'll figure it out, right,
- 35:18Speaker 6: you know, there was how do you leave yourself so
- 35:21Speaker 6: high and dry at the most important position? And it
- 35:23Speaker 6: almost makes you envious a little bit of like the
- 35:25Speaker 6: Green Bay Packers, Right.
- 35:27Speaker 3: Well, his plan was Garoppolo and Brady ruined it.
- 35:29Speaker 4: Yeah, but then you should have had winning super bowls
- 35:31Speaker 4: right to change the.
- 35:32Speaker 6: Plan then, And you know I understand that like eighteen
- 35:35Speaker 6: and nineteen, like those drafts, like you can look back
- 35:38Speaker 6: and there's not a ton of great options outside of
- 35:40Speaker 6: the first round, but like you know, everybody always brings
- 35:43Speaker 6: up Lamar Jackson, Like, I don't know if that was
- 35:45Speaker 6: necessarily feasible, Like that's probably unrealistic in twenty eighteen to
- 35:50Speaker 6: think that they were going to draft Lamar Jackson and
- 35:52Speaker 6: then sit him behind Brady for two years. But there
- 35:55Speaker 6: were other combinations to have somebody better in the pipeline
- 35:58Speaker 6: than Jared's did them that quarterback tight end? You know,
- 36:02Speaker 6: Rob Gronkowski retires or whatever you want to call his
- 36:05Speaker 6: hiatus they had, they called Ben Watson up off his
- 36:08Speaker 6: couch to come back and play here. You know, there
- 36:11Speaker 6: was no plan of who's the next guy? You know,
- 36:15Speaker 6: did we they adn't drafted tight end since they drafted
- 36:17Speaker 6: Gronkowski and Hernandez, like, they went that whole time without
- 36:21Speaker 6: drafting a tight end. So it just that was the
- 36:24Speaker 6: part to me that surprised me the most with Bill
- 36:27Speaker 6: at the end is that he lost that ability to
- 36:29Speaker 6: stay one step ahead of what was going on.
- 36:31Speaker 4: Those would be some of the tangible reasons, you know,
- 36:34Speaker 4: like on field, because he was always personnel wise a
- 36:38Speaker 4: step ahead. But I even look at you know, you
- 36:40Speaker 4: sort of started that by saying, you know, he kind
- 36:43Speaker 4: of lost that ability to be a step ahead. I
- 36:46Speaker 4: think of the league too, I think, you know, coming
- 36:50Speaker 4: out of the lockout, you know, he's like, well, there's
- 36:52Speaker 4: a lot less preparation time. We're going to go faster.
- 36:55Speaker 4: You know, we're going to put pressure on the defense.
- 36:57Speaker 4: We're going to go two tight ends. You know, way
- 37:00Speaker 4: more than everybody else does. You know, these kinds of
- 37:03Speaker 4: like sort of intangible things that he kind of thought
- 37:06Speaker 4: about ahead of time. Those are just a couple off
- 37:08Speaker 4: the top of my head. There's probably a million of them,
- 37:13Speaker 4: you know, sort of recognizing the teams. We're going to
- 37:16Speaker 4: start going wider in the box, and this is how
- 37:19Speaker 4: we're going to combat that. You know, We're going to
- 37:21Speaker 4: have these running backs that are you know, like Rex
- 37:23Speaker 4: Burkhead type guys that aren't you know that no one's
- 37:26Speaker 4: ever going to confuse him with Christian McCaffrey. But he's
- 37:29Speaker 4: a guy that can play on all three down. We
- 37:30Speaker 4: can run and we can throw with this guy on
- 37:33Speaker 4: the field, you know, and we have a guy like
- 37:35Speaker 4: James White and Shane Breen who can be weapons against matchups,
- 37:40Speaker 4: you know, and we can just sort of generate a
- 37:43Speaker 4: game plan around these matchups that we're going to take
- 37:46Speaker 4: advantage of. I think he kind of lost that too.
- 37:48Speaker 5: I think what was jarring too for me was what
- 37:50Speaker 5: made Bill so special in those early years was he's
- 37:53Speaker 5: a genius. He's a defensive genius. He's gonna shut down
- 37:55Speaker 5: the greatest show on turf. He's gonna you know, a
- 37:58Speaker 5: colts team that's never punted. He's got the game plan
- 38:00Speaker 5: to hold him to three points. You know, those things
- 38:02Speaker 5: early in his career where it was like he's just
- 38:05Speaker 5: got the code for a lot of these quarterbacks. Cut
- 38:07Speaker 5: to the end and you've got two young quarterbacks coming
- 38:10Speaker 5: up in your division that he couldn't figure out, Like
- 38:12Speaker 5: he couldn't figure out Josh Allen. He couldn't figure out
- 38:14Speaker 5: a way, you know, I mean they get up in Buffalo,
- 38:16Speaker 5: they get housed by those guys Like that was for
- 38:18Speaker 5: me starting to see those things where it's like he
- 38:21Speaker 5: doesn't have his fastball anymore, he doesn't have like the
- 38:23Speaker 5: defensive game plan where this young coure all of a sudden,
- 38:26Speaker 5: it's just whoa confused. They pretty much had their way
- 38:30Speaker 5: with him here, pasted him. You know, those guys that
- 38:32Speaker 5: it came from within the division. You know, that's what's
- 38:34Speaker 5: jarring to me, Those two pieces of the beginning in
- 38:37Speaker 5: the end.
- 38:37Speaker 6: I just wonder too, Like with Paul's point about the
- 38:40Speaker 6: personnel and evolving, you know, he still stuck to you know,
- 38:44Speaker 6: the Juwan Bentley types, the Jelaanni Deviz, the Lawrence guys
- 38:48Speaker 6: like these big you know, run stuffing three four ends
- 38:52Speaker 6: and things like that. And you're talking about Josh Allen
- 38:55Speaker 6: and the Buffalo Bills especially, you know, early on when
- 38:58Speaker 6: Josh Allen first started to turn the corner. You're not
- 39:01Speaker 6: gonna stop Josh Allen with with those guys out there,
- 39:04Speaker 6: with plotters out there at linebacker and things like that,
- 39:06Speaker 6: and it just seemed like he never adapted necessarily to
- 39:10Speaker 6: that style of play that was taking over the league.
- 39:13Speaker 6: Like I saw somebody wrote on Sunday that, you know,
- 39:16Speaker 6: all day they really missed Bill in that game against
- 39:19Speaker 6: the Colts. I was like, you think the like he
- 39:22Speaker 6: solved guys like Anthony Richardson, Like those were the guys
- 39:24Speaker 6: that always give trouble, you know, guys that could run
- 39:27Speaker 6: and dual threat quarterbacks. And I mean I remember, you
- 39:30Speaker 6: know Lamar Jackson in twenty nineteen, Deshaun Watson his rookie season, runners.
- 39:35Speaker 4: They saw that Lamar Jackson was like taking candy from
- 39:37Speaker 4: a baby. Oh that was Baltimore's offense was so good
- 39:41Speaker 4: that night.
- 39:41Speaker 3: I thought myself, who's ever going to be able to
- 39:44Speaker 3: stop this team? But other teams did.
- 39:46Speaker 6: Yeah. I mean, and look, Anthony Richardson isn't Lamar Jackson.
- 39:48Speaker 6: But that style of quarterback gave Bill problems even when
- 39:52Speaker 6: he was at the peak of his powers.
- 39:54Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 39:54Speaker 6: So I just that was always a big thing for him,
- 39:58Speaker 6: was the dual threat guys. And now everybody's a dual
- 40:02Speaker 6: threat guy. So I think that was a bit of
- 40:04Speaker 6: an adjustment for him too.
- 40:06Speaker 3: Kylon Pembroke has a would you rather gain? I want
- 40:09Speaker 3: to do that. Draft a wide receiver in round one
- 40:13Speaker 3: or trade for a veteran wide receiver. I'd like to
- 40:16Speaker 3: do both. But if you only could do one. Draft one,
- 40:21Speaker 3: draft one in round one, yeah, okay, sign of are
- 40:25Speaker 3: in cornerback two for Gonzo or draft a cornerback two
- 40:29Speaker 3: in one of the first three rounds.
- 40:31Speaker 5: Free agent free agent. I think that's lining up for them.
- 40:34Speaker 5: I think they're gonna get they can get a pretty
- 40:36Speaker 5: good cornerback. There's a pretty good market I think that
- 40:38Speaker 5: they'll beat. That'll be one of the places they'll spend
- 40:40Speaker 5: some of their money this year, will be getting a
- 40:42Speaker 5: solid compliment to Christian Zalez, I would I would bet on.
- 40:45Speaker 3: That, Okay, beat the Bills once and ruin their chances
- 40:48Speaker 3: of being the number one seed, allowing the Chiefs to
- 40:50Speaker 3: get it or be blown out in both games against
- 40:53Speaker 3: the Bills, getting them the number one beat the Bills.
- 40:57Speaker 4: I would rather beat the Bills.
- 40:58Speaker 3: Yeah, absolutely. I don't care about get the number one seed.
- 41:02Speaker 6: I'm more worried about the Patriots draft pick. I thought
- 41:04Speaker 6: that's what we were talking about, the seed.
- 41:06Speaker 3: I'd rather beat the Bills. That's the kind of thing
- 41:09Speaker 3: that propels you into next season. If it's a legit win,
- 41:12Speaker 3: you know, like if they're playing all the close.
- 41:17Speaker 6: What about a.
- 41:19Speaker 3: Competitive losses be the Patriots, Bears, or Commanders for the
- 41:24Speaker 3: next five years, which of those three?
- 41:28Speaker 4: I don't know enough about the personnel in Washington in Chicago.
- 41:35Speaker 3: What about Cliff Kingsbury.
- 41:37Speaker 4: I think Cliff Kingsbury is not going to be in
- 41:39Speaker 4: Washington next year? Oh yeah, yeah, I think he's probably,
- 41:42Speaker 4: especially if they finished strong, he'll get a job.
- 41:46Speaker 6: It's a tough one.
- 41:47Speaker 4: He keeps failing upward Kingsbury.
- 41:50Speaker 6: I trust Washington I trust their their top level guys
- 41:56Speaker 6: a little bit more like Dan Quinn and Adam Peters,
- 42:00Speaker 6: just because I think they're both a little bit more
- 42:02Speaker 6: experienced and a little bit more prepared for their roles.
- 42:07Speaker 6: But I don't think that the Washington roster talent is
- 42:11Speaker 6: world's better than the Patriots.
- 42:14Speaker 4: I just it's not.
- 42:15Speaker 6: I just think Jayden Daniels was more pro ready than
- 42:18Speaker 6: Drake was, and and then they had a coach and
- 42:20Speaker 6: a GM that have been around the block a little
- 42:23Speaker 6: bit longer. The Bears probably have the best roster top
- 42:28Speaker 6: to bottom out of those three teams, but they can't
- 42:30Speaker 6: figure out the coach in the GM.
- 42:32Speaker 4: And they have a lot of money they're supposed to keep.
- 42:34Speaker 6: They're keeping Ryan Poles, which I'm surprised by. But I
- 42:38Speaker 6: guess they look at the roster and they see the
- 42:40Speaker 6: talent on the roster. And that's why I.
- 42:42Speaker 4: Thought the Jets might keep Joe Douglas, because I thought
- 42:45Speaker 4: they might look at that and say, talent's not our problem.
- 42:47Speaker 3: Right. Yeah.
- 42:48Speaker 6: I think the biggest thing with Joe Douglas was he's
- 42:50Speaker 6: failed at quarterback twice twice. Yeah, it's hard to come
- 42:53Speaker 6: back from that.
- 42:55Speaker 3: Danny's and Daytona. What's up, Danny, can you hear me?
- 43:01Speaker 4: Yes?
- 43:03Speaker 10: Okay, So I have I have retakes for you guys today.
- 43:07Speaker 11: I was I was reached on.
- 43:09Speaker 10: CBS Sports about the new facility. I'm glad that they
- 43:13Speaker 10: finally craft UH paid attention to the criticism in the
- 43:17Speaker 10: last season from the players about the facility. So I'm
- 43:20Speaker 10: happy to see that. The second take, I was kind
- 43:24Speaker 10: of annoyed as the Patriots didn't jump on UH since
- 43:26Speaker 10: their top on the uh our waiver claims to grab
- 43:30Speaker 10: Emmanuel Form. He was drafted a one pick higher than
- 43:33Speaker 10: Christian Gonzalez in the twenty twenty three draft, and I
- 43:37Speaker 10: know he struggled with Washington and they let him go
- 43:40Speaker 10: because he was he was out beat by some veterans
- 43:43Speaker 10: and some other rookies. But I don't think maybe his
- 43:47Speaker 10: positioning coach or whoever his situation there was good. But
- 43:51Speaker 10: I think the Patriots, especially my col Agrena, they probably
- 43:54Speaker 10: could have had a chance to see him as a
- 43:56Speaker 10: project and kind of help him. We probably could have
- 43:58Speaker 10: had another boundary corner. But that's my second take, and
- 44:03Speaker 10: then my last take is.
- 44:06Speaker 11: Uh.
- 44:06Speaker 10: I'm still gonna harp on the situation from last week
- 44:09Speaker 10: about the reason why I said gidd shouldn't be a
- 44:12Speaker 10: head coach, And I'm not knocking the man. I'm just
- 44:14Speaker 10: saying that he wasn't ready for this, uh this current
- 44:19Speaker 10: job at him and Elliott, and that's the reason why
- 44:22Speaker 10: I said I wouldn't want him to see him. He
- 44:24Speaker 10: should have been a coordinator at least for another two
- 44:27Speaker 10: or three more years and then worked to be a
- 44:29Speaker 10: head coach. I think he set himself up for failure
- 44:32Speaker 10: trying to take this job before he was ready. And
- 44:34Speaker 10: I think Craft definitely set him up for failure pushing
- 44:38Speaker 10: him into this job when he knew he wasn't ready.
- 44:41Speaker 10: And you look at Mike Tomblin. He worked his way
- 44:44Speaker 10: from a nobody on the staff up through the defensive ranks,
- 44:47Speaker 10: and then he was a coordinator, and then he got
- 44:49Speaker 10: the job after he did a great job in Tampa.
- 44:52Speaker 10: And then look at it. They just said, Mike's been
- 44:54Speaker 10: there with the Steelers for eighteen seasons.
- 44:57Speaker 3: It's all fair. I mean, everything you say is accurate.
- 45:01Speaker 3: So thanks Danny. You know my thing is okay. But
- 45:05Speaker 3: now he's here, so I'd rather stick it out and
- 45:08Speaker 3: hope he takes the year two jump than start over again, right,
- 45:12Speaker 3: you know, Yeah, that's that's what I'm saying.
- 45:15Speaker 6: Yeah, I don't necessarily think that you need to follow
- 45:18Speaker 6: the Tomlin route of being assistant and then a coordinator
- 45:22Speaker 6: for like a long long time. I mean, there's a
- 45:24Speaker 6: lot of really good head coach. Sean McVay was a
- 45:27Speaker 6: coordinator for like two or three years before he became
- 45:30Speaker 6: the Rams coach. He was youngest coach in NFL history.
- 45:34Speaker 6: So I don't think you need to do that. But
- 45:36Speaker 6: I do agree with his point that he probably wasn't
- 45:40Speaker 6: ready for it, and I put that, you know, more
- 45:43Speaker 6: on on mister Kraftford for not seeing that he wasn't
- 45:46Speaker 6: ready for it. Now, how do you buffer it? I don't.
- 45:48Speaker 6: I don't know, right, Like, you know that that means
- 45:51Speaker 6: another year or two of Bill and you know that
- 45:53Speaker 6: whole thing. I don't have the answer to that. But
- 45:56Speaker 6: there he's learning on the job and he doesn't have
- 45:59Speaker 6: the roster to learn on the job and win, right,
- 46:02Speaker 6: So you know, I use this comparison across sports, like
- 46:05Speaker 6: with the Celtics, like Joe Mizzula wasn't ready for the
- 46:07Speaker 6: job either, but he had Jalen Brown and Jason Tatum
- 46:10Speaker 6: so they went to the Eastern Conference finals, right, and
- 46:14Speaker 6: they were one game away from a champion from going
- 46:17Speaker 6: back to the finals. But they were just in the
- 46:19Speaker 6: finals the year before. You know, this team was a
- 46:22Speaker 6: rebuilding project that also has a green head coach. So
- 46:25Speaker 6: those things didn't work out.
- 46:27Speaker 3: All right. Let's take a break. My food's here when

- 47:45Speaker 13: When someone accidentally threw a the school play costumes, oh No,
- 47:50Speaker 13: replacements were shipped with FedEx and with picture proof of delivery,
- 47:54Speaker 13: everyone could focus on the perfect opening night FedEx. Where
- 47:58Speaker 13: now mean's next for residential delivery only?
- 48:02Speaker 14: Yeah, you know, after watching the film and talking to
- 48:06Speaker 14: some of the players, you know, it's a disappointing game.
- 48:08Speaker 14: When you think about the one score games that we've
- 48:11Speaker 14: been in this year, I think we've had seven of them,
- 48:14Speaker 14: it's always disappointing to come out on this side. I thought, overall,
- 48:18Speaker 14: I thought this was the best performance from our offense that.
- 48:21Speaker 8: We've had all season. The way that those guys are
- 48:25Speaker 8: on the ball.
- 48:26Speaker 14: There were some you know, some protection issues but I
- 48:29Speaker 14: would say for the most part, I was pretty good.
- 48:31Speaker 8: And you know we're able to throw the ball.
- 48:33Speaker 14: That's always a good formula to be balanced like that
- 48:36Speaker 14: in a game. Defensively, you know, we had a few
- 48:40Speaker 14: drives there, good drives.
- 48:42Speaker 8: You know.
- 48:42Speaker 14: Obviously if you take away that last drive, I think
- 48:44Speaker 14: it was like seventeen eighteen plays, We're all feeling a
- 48:47Speaker 14: little bit better about the game. Definitely things to build on.
- 48:51Speaker 14: I would say those guys played until the last seconds.
- 48:53Speaker 14: As you guys saw it was still had an opportunity
- 48:56Speaker 14: at the end of the game. Special teams wise, we've
- 48:59Speaker 14: got to make some of those kicks, kind of put
- 49:01Speaker 14: Joey Joey hit the ball well pre game. Obviously, at
- 49:05Speaker 14: the end of the game, whether it's a hell Mary
- 49:06Speaker 14: or a field goal, I mean to me, the odds
- 49:08Speaker 14: are pretty much the same, especially when the win wasn't
- 49:11Speaker 14: really a big factor in the game. Coming up on
- 49:15Speaker 14: the BIE week is going to be a huge week
- 49:16Speaker 14: for us. Much needed bye week, not only physically for
- 49:20Speaker 14: the players but also mentally being able to hit the
- 49:23Speaker 14: reset button and come back in and you know, put
- 49:26Speaker 14: some put some good games together and continue to build
- 49:28Speaker 14: for the future and that has to be our goal.
- 49:32Speaker 15: And we'll start with the first question from Mike Grease.
- 49:36Speaker 16: True, I wanted to ask you on the on the
- 49:38Speaker 16: Colts final drive. We talked a little bit about the
- 49:41Speaker 16: possible challenge on that third and ten play and maybe
- 49:45Speaker 16: not having a clear view of it. I just wanted
- 49:47Speaker 16: to get your thoughts on on what your thoughts are
- 49:50Speaker 16: on maybe even just throwing that anyway in that situation,
- 49:53Speaker 16: just given the game situation, like what is.
- 49:55Speaker 5: Your philosophy on that particular situation.
- 49:59Speaker 14: That's a great question, you know, I would say the
- 50:00Speaker 14: timeouts are definitely vital, uh in those in those positions.
- 50:04Speaker 8: You know, we lost more challenge like that.
- 50:06Speaker 14: Last week we lost one of the forty nine ers,
- 50:08Speaker 14: and I would say this week is hands at least
- 50:09Speaker 14: the one clip that I saw real quick, and.
- 50:13Speaker 8: It was just it was just a tough It was tough.
- 50:16Speaker 8: It was a tough for me as far as like
- 50:17Speaker 8: they catch you did not catch you.
- 50:18Speaker 14: I understand your question now as far as like momentum
- 50:21Speaker 14: and things like that, but at that point in time,
- 50:23Speaker 14: I didn't feel like we.
- 50:24Speaker 8: Had a good few.
- 50:27Speaker 15: Next question, Doug kaide I.
- 50:30Speaker 7: Drawed on the on the two point version it looked
- 50:33Speaker 7: like Christian Barmore might have been held, might have been penalized,
- 50:37Speaker 7: or like that he possibly could have had a flag
- 50:39Speaker 7: throw and against the offensive lineman on a play. Curious
- 50:42Speaker 7: to see or curious to hear what you thought of
- 50:44Speaker 7: that play after the film?
- 50:47Speaker 14: Look, they didn't call it. I thought he got held,
- 50:50Speaker 14: and I watched the film. I mean it's pretty clear
- 50:52Speaker 14: to me, but it wasn't called. And so there's no
- 50:55Speaker 14: excuses for me on that.
- 50:58Speaker 7: And one other quick question. You just said that if
- 51:00Speaker 7: you take up the final drive, then obviously you guys
- 51:02Speaker 7: are feeling a lot better about the game. There's been
- 51:05Speaker 7: a few instances this season where you've said, like if
- 51:07Speaker 7: you take out a few big runs or if you
- 51:09Speaker 7: take out his drive. I'm just curious what, like what
- 51:11Speaker 7: message that sends the players or the team that if
- 51:15Speaker 7: you take out the worst thing that happens, that that
- 51:17Speaker 7: you guys are gonna feel better after the game.
- 51:19Speaker 14: Yeah, And when I talk to the team, I tell
- 51:21Speaker 14: him all the time, I don't I don't have a
- 51:22Speaker 14: crystal ball on what play is going to be important,
- 51:25Speaker 14: But you're you're exactly right. Those are those are you know,
- 51:28Speaker 14: that's what the NFL is the NFL has comes down
- 51:30Speaker 14: to a few plays. And that's really my message when
- 51:32Speaker 14: I say it, like it comes down to a few plays.
- 51:34Speaker 14: So you look at it from one way, you know,
- 51:37Speaker 14: if we would have done this, and then you look
- 51:38Speaker 14: at it the other way. We didn't get it done,
- 51:41Speaker 14: and so that's kind of why we're here.
- 51:42Speaker 5: Now.
- 51:43Speaker 14: We've had seven one score games and I think we're
- 51:45Speaker 14: two and five in those games, and we just got
- 51:47Speaker 14: to be better. And again that's what the NFL is.
- 51:50Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 51:51Speaker 15: Next question, so if you willa.
- 51:55Speaker 17: As your Rid's curious about Christian Ellis. Last season when
- 52:00Speaker 17: he came in, he was used primarily on special teams,
- 52:03Speaker 17: but it really feels like the season you're utilizing him
- 52:05Speaker 17: a lot more on defense and then to see him
- 52:07Speaker 17: kind of get that interception yesterday, just what you've seen
- 52:10Speaker 17: from him and how he's grown to become one of
- 52:14Speaker 17: these key defensive players for you.
- 52:16Speaker 14: Yeah, part of that, you know, is due to injury.
- 52:18Speaker 14: And I would say primarily he was here to help
- 52:21Speaker 14: us on special teams, but has always been very doubting
- 52:24Speaker 14: and defensive meeting. And now he's playing a lot of
- 52:26Speaker 14: football for us and doing a pretty good job. Look,
- 52:29Speaker 14: we always talk about that next man up mentality, and
- 52:31Speaker 14: he has embraced that and he's out there making play
- 52:33Speaker 14: for us.
- 52:34Speaker 15: Thank you.
- 52:35Speaker 3: Thanks.
- 52:36Speaker 15: Next question to coat A. Randall want to.
- 52:39Speaker 18: Droud and at the beginning of the year, you said
- 52:43Speaker 18: a successful season would be being competitive each week and
- 52:45Speaker 18: getting better. It's a season progresses. You've been competitive in
- 52:48Speaker 18: a lot of these games. But as you answered the
- 52:50Speaker 18: bye week, what things can you point to that the
- 52:52Speaker 18: team got better app over the first thirteen weeks.
- 52:56Speaker 14: Yeah, First of all, we'll just say we have a
- 52:58Speaker 14: very resilient team. We've been in games where you know,
- 53:01Speaker 14: most people would just quit. Our guys, you know, they
- 53:04Speaker 14: have great mental toughness and they continue to play good football.
- 53:08Speaker 14: What I would say is this overall, our consistency just
- 53:10Speaker 14: needs to improve. You know, you look at the beginning
- 53:13Speaker 14: part of the year, we're a good cover team, special
- 53:15Speaker 14: teams wise, and now you know yesterday obviously we had
- 53:18Speaker 14: a good game there, but our return game has stepped up.
- 53:20Speaker 14: And it's really just about putting everything together that we've
- 53:23Speaker 14: done at points in the season to be a good
- 53:25Speaker 14: football team.
- 53:26Speaker 8: And I wish you have to continue to do that.
- 53:30Speaker 15: We'll try to get to everyone's question too. The next question, Chris.
- 53:33Speaker 19: Ryan Heydrod, as you mentioned earlier, Hey, just uh you
- 53:40Speaker 19: mentioned a lot of these games, uh, seven games in
- 53:43Speaker 19: which you've been within a score, kind of getting lost
- 53:47Speaker 19: in the margins. From a coaching standpoint, how do you
- 53:50Speaker 19: get the guys to a point where there is more consistency,
- 53:53Speaker 19: there is more attention to detail and you are able
- 53:57Speaker 19: to win the margins and games where you outgained the
- 53:59Speaker 19: opponent like yesterday.
- 54:01Speaker 14: Yeah, look, it starts in practice and it starts with
- 54:04Speaker 14: just how you just said, the details. We just have
- 54:06Speaker 14: to be on point every snap and hopefully after this
- 54:09Speaker 14: bye week the guys come back, we'refreshed and ready to
- 54:12Speaker 14: go and try to put some games together.
- 54:14Speaker 15: Thank next question, Marck Daniels.
- 54:20Speaker 20: Hedrod, Good morning with the With such a young team,
- 54:24Speaker 20: how hard is it to teach some of these teams
- 54:27Speaker 20: or as a team to.
- 54:27Speaker 8: Learn how to win?
- 54:28Speaker 20: You know, obviously you guys have lost some close games,
- 54:30Speaker 20: But how tough is it? Is it the lessons that
- 54:32Speaker 20: you've been I'm saying is you've been on a lot
- 54:34Speaker 20: of teams, have won a lot of games. You know,
- 54:35Speaker 20: how hard is it to sort of teach this and
- 54:37Speaker 20: you know how important is it through these final four
- 54:39Speaker 20: games is try to hone in you know whatever that
- 54:41Speaker 20: lesson is.
- 54:42Speaker 14: Yeah, it's it's very tough, and I think you know,
- 54:44Speaker 14: once you tip over that first domino of going out
- 54:46Speaker 14: there playing well and being able to win back to
- 54:48Speaker 14: back games, that's when you really start to say, all right,
- 54:52Speaker 14: we're doing a good job, and look that's my job.
- 54:55Speaker 14: That's my job is to get these guys ready to
- 54:56Speaker 14: go and obviously winning cures.
- 54:58Speaker 15: All Thank you, thanks, Next question Dan Rich.
- 55:05Speaker 8: Morning, Gerard.
- 55:06Speaker 9: Okay, just a one of those lines of what Mark
- 55:08Speaker 9: was asking. You have a pretty good chunk of time
- 55:11Speaker 9: for the players off here, what would you like them
- 55:13Speaker 9: to do in that period of time?
- 55:14Speaker 8: Reflect on?
- 55:15Speaker 9: And then what would you like to see from your
- 55:17Speaker 9: team for the next four weeks after that coming out
- 55:19Speaker 9: of the break.
- 55:21Speaker 14: To me, they should reflect on what they what they've
- 55:24Speaker 14: done to this point, and what they can do more
- 55:26Speaker 14: going forward. And then from a that's from an individual standpoint,
- 55:29Speaker 14: I would also say from a collective standpoint, what more
- 55:32Speaker 14: can I want them to think about? What more can
- 55:34Speaker 14: I do to help this team win games? And that's
- 55:36Speaker 14: also for the coaches as well, and definitely for myself
- 55:39Speaker 14: reflecting on how do we get this team winning on
- 55:42Speaker 14: a consistent basis and to me that that cures all.
- 55:45Speaker 9: And how will you spend your time? You need a
- 55:46Speaker 9: quick mental break? What do you think you need?
- 55:49Speaker 14: No, you know, look, I'll take a quick break. But look,
- 55:52Speaker 14: there are definitely a lot of things that will happen
- 55:54Speaker 14: here over the next few weeks. And still focusing on
- 55:57Speaker 14: the season obviously, but you also have to look out
- 55:59Speaker 14: the front windshield of things that are going to come
- 56:01Speaker 14: up on as fast and those are some of the
- 56:04Speaker 14: decisions or conversations that I'll have during the week.
- 56:07Speaker 15: Thank you, Thanks, Next question, Nick Giovanni, Morning coach.
- 56:13Speaker 21: I've just following up along the bye week theme there,
- 56:16Speaker 21: just how how, if anyway, did yesterday's outcome impact just
- 56:20Speaker 21: how you're approaching the bye week there in terms of
- 56:22Speaker 21: victory mondays and just you know, how you're going about that,
- 56:25Speaker 21: and then what in terms of the evaluation process that
- 56:28Speaker 21: you've been talking about, Uh, you know, what what is
- 56:30Speaker 21: the mindset for the for the final four?
- 56:33Speaker 14: Yeah to be you know, some of those victory mondays
- 56:35Speaker 14: early on were just a case of you know, our
- 56:37Speaker 14: bye week being so far out and you know, some
- 56:40Speaker 14: of the guys needed to rest their mind, rest their body,
- 56:43Speaker 14: and so it was very difficult, uh doing that.
- 56:45Speaker 8: The second part of your question was what again, sorry.
- 56:49Speaker 21: Just in terms of the evaluation process that you've been
- 56:51Speaker 21: talking about going through something.
- 56:53Speaker 14: Yeah, yeah, well, you know, we'll do our self scout stuff,
- 56:58Speaker 14: you know, see what we're doing schematically, and then we'll
- 57:00Speaker 14: also see you know, we'll get our player evals in
- 57:03Speaker 14: as well. Up until this point and then you're going
- 57:05Speaker 14: into the last four games, it's just about going out
- 57:08Speaker 14: there playing confromentary football and winning.
- 57:12Speaker 8: Thanks sir.
- 57:12Speaker 15: Thanks, next question Taylor Kyles.
- 57:17Speaker 22: Hey, coach, thank you so much for your time. I
- 57:20Speaker 22: had a question about a couple of things. One, the
- 57:22Speaker 22: first touchdown that answering Anthony Richardson threw, it looked like
- 57:25Speaker 22: there was like a four by one. Look they kind
- 57:27Speaker 22: of got to the line fast. Was that a miscommunication
- 57:29Speaker 22: or something maybe they hadn't shown before. And also it
- 57:32Speaker 22: looked like that QB sweep they were kind of hitting
- 57:34Speaker 22: pretty consistently. I was wondering what your thoughts were on
- 57:36Speaker 22: that play.
- 57:37Speaker 14: Yeah, they've shown it before and really like we just
- 57:40Speaker 14: got to go out there and make the play like
- 57:42Speaker 14: those loaded formations. Every team does things like that. Obviously,
- 57:45Speaker 14: when you have a quarterback that can also run, uh,
- 57:48Speaker 14: you know, he's always a threat. And I would say,
- 57:50Speaker 14: I think you hit on the head again. Like you know,
- 57:52Speaker 14: the quarterback design runs were definitely a problem, and we
- 57:56Speaker 14: just had to get that fixed. Anytime it's a quarterback
- 57:57Speaker 14: that can run, he just adds another piece of the puzzle.
- 58:00Speaker 8: Uh. And we'll see that here coming up soon. Thank you.
- 58:04Speaker 3: Thanks.
- 58:04Speaker 15: Next question, Mike Giatti, mardin.
- 58:08Speaker 23: You a couple of quick ones for you on the
- 58:11Speaker 23: on the touchdown to Pierce of the final touchdown, there
- 58:15Speaker 23: he crosses Pepper's face, gives him like a slight for him.
- 58:19Speaker 23: Do you want to see him get a little bit
- 58:21Speaker 23: more of a piece of him to slow him down
- 58:22Speaker 23: on the crosser.
- 58:24Speaker 14: I mean that's always uh, part of our mentality is
- 58:27Speaker 14: to chip these receivers. And look, when it's all said
- 58:31Speaker 14: and done, he scored a touchdown and we just all
- 58:33Speaker 14: have to be better. I'll talk about the marriage of
- 58:35Speaker 14: Russian coverage as well, so it's not just one individual,
- 58:38Speaker 14: it's just as an entire unit.
- 58:39Speaker 23: And then to Taylor's point about the four by one,
- 58:43Speaker 23: they were going fast. It seemed like you guys weren't set.
- 58:45Speaker 23: Is that another issue where communication got challenged.
- 58:48Speaker 14: Look, anytime an offense goes to the ball fast, you
- 58:50Speaker 14: have to be ready for some type of perimeter play,
- 58:53Speaker 14: and we just had to have more of a sense
- 58:55Speaker 14: of urgency on that play to get lined up and go.
- 58:58Speaker 23: I do.
- 59:00Speaker 6: And now great moments in.
- 59:04Speaker 3: History.
- 59:05Speaker 6: I'm sure it doesn't surprise anybody that I am a
- 59:07Speaker 6: food snob. Yeah, I did that food. That's what I'm saying.
- 59:13Speaker 3: Surprise anybody Patrick Patrick and Ottawa thinks I'm a food
- 59:16Speaker 3: snow he says when Fred, When Fred speaks of food,
- 59:19Speaker 3: it's with such snobbery. Yes, there's no question he channels
- 59:23Speaker 3: the soul of Eric.
- 59:25Speaker 4: You tell everybody, don't get this, get this.
- 59:27Speaker 3: This is the better I can't maker Fred.
- 59:30Speaker 6: I feel like Fred and I are on the same wavelength.
- 59:32Speaker 6: But he takes he does it a little bit more
- 59:33Speaker 6: than idea.
- 59:34Speaker 4: He's worse than you at it. Yes, I smash one
- 59:37Speaker 4: before smash burgers, the tavern Burger. That's the one. That's
- 59:41Speaker 4: the one that's you're wasting your time with the whiskey
- 59:43Speaker 4: River Barber.
- 59:44Speaker 3: No mail on it. Don't put Mayo on it. Yeah,
- 59:46Speaker 3: Mayo ruin it.
- 59:49Speaker 6: I don't know this friend's always telling me not to
- 59:51Speaker 6: put on something.
- 59:52Speaker 3: That's another great moment. Cheese steak. All right back here
- 1:00:00Speaker 3: on Patriot's Unfiltered, it's Deuce, Evan, Paul, myself, Matt and
- 1:00:03Speaker 3: the Booth Open season. We're in bye weeks, so we're
- 1:00:07Speaker 3: talking about anything you really want to talk about. Maybe
- 1:00:10Speaker 3: we'll talk about something Tim's having trouble, though, he says,
- 1:00:13Speaker 3: not sure if this is an issue for others, but
- 1:00:15Speaker 3: your stream doesn't come up on Firefox. For me, I
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: have to go to Chrome. People still use Firefox. Really,
- 1:00:23Speaker 3: I didn't even know it was around you on that one.
- 1:00:27Speaker 3: You're a Firefox person.
- 1:00:28Speaker 6: No, I didn't know it still existing.
- 1:00:30Speaker 3: Yeah, it's weird Chrome. I have questions, And Jake writes
- 1:00:36Speaker 3: in throwing my two cents to say, I absolutely love
- 1:00:40Speaker 3: the Blueberry Jersey silver pants. Absolutely hate both the Blueberry
- 1:00:45Speaker 3: itself in white jersey silver pants. Combo and their throwback
- 1:00:49Speaker 3: uniforms are my favorite in all sports. Good.
- 1:00:52Speaker 6: That's the correct answer.
- 1:00:55Speaker 5: The throwbacks are great.
- 1:00:57Speaker 4: Yep.
- 1:00:58Speaker 3: Let's see Jeff in Canada. I haven't heard much discussion
- 1:01:02Speaker 3: about this. Do you have any thoughts about going for
- 1:01:04Speaker 3: the longest field goal in history versus a hail Mary
- 1:01:07Speaker 3: on the last play if you were male, which would
- 1:01:10Speaker 3: if you choosed chosen. Also, I appreciate the bill of
- 1:01:14Speaker 3: winning culture thoughts, but I'm one hundred percent all in
- 1:01:17Speaker 3: on losing out and going for a pick one or two.
- 1:01:21Speaker 3: Since you mentioned the draft class isn't good, all the
- 1:01:23Speaker 3: more reason to lose out. Players will build the winning culture,
- 1:01:27Speaker 3: and losing and losing out might spur the crafts to
- 1:01:30Speaker 3: tap the debit card more in free agency.
- 1:01:34Speaker 5: I would say, in the moment, when I saw they
- 1:01:35Speaker 5: were gonna kick it, I thought it was ridiculous, But
- 1:01:37Speaker 5: when I saw how close it was, I thought maybe
- 1:01:39Speaker 5: it wasn't ridiculous.
- 1:01:40Speaker 3: I mean, listen, I predict within the next three years
- 1:01:44Speaker 3: somebody will kick a seventy yard field goal. Oh yeah, but.
- 1:01:47Speaker 4: I'll predict that that will not happen in the northeastern
- 1:01:50Speaker 4: thirty degree weather.
- 1:01:51Speaker 6: I don't know, but be in Denver.
- 1:01:53Speaker 4: Yeah yeah. If they were inside, I would have been
- 1:01:56Speaker 4: on board with the kick. I think it was obviously
- 1:02:02Speaker 4: not an ideal situation. You're at midfield with one play,
- 1:02:06Speaker 4: But I've seen hail Mary's get completed. I've never seen
- 1:02:10Speaker 4: a sixty eight yard field goal, and I don't think
- 1:02:14Speaker 4: you can kick it any better. And he still needed
- 1:02:16Speaker 4: another few yards. Like I think he nailed it.
- 1:02:19Speaker 3: Oh yeah, right down the middle.
- 1:02:21Speaker 4: No, I'm saying I think he crushed the kick. Yeah,
- 1:02:23Speaker 4: really it was short.
- 1:02:26Speaker 3: Yeah, it would have been good from like sixty four maybe, yeah.
- 1:02:29Speaker 4: Like I don't think it was like yeah, you know,
- 1:02:33Speaker 4: like when you saw it now you see it going
- 1:02:35Speaker 4: right down the middle and you're like, oh, does that
- 1:02:37Speaker 4: have the legs?
- 1:02:38Speaker 3: Did you hear soci's call, you know, like if you're
- 1:02:41Speaker 3: listening to you like, oh my god, it's going to
- 1:02:43Speaker 3: go in.
- 1:02:44Speaker 6: He did the warning track? Yeah, yeah, I swing on
- 1:02:49Speaker 6: to drive. I didn't have a huge issue with it
- 1:02:52Speaker 6: because either.
- 1:02:52Speaker 4: Way, it didn't have a huge issue.
- 1:02:55Speaker 6: It's a hail Mary either way, right, But I would
- 1:02:58Speaker 6: have probably gone hail Mary. And the only reason being
- 1:03:01Speaker 6: is that you have a cornerback that can pull that off.
- 1:03:03Speaker 6: You know, he can do the Jaden Daniels and run
- 1:03:06Speaker 6: around for twelve seconds and then launch it fifty yards
- 1:03:09Speaker 6: in the air into the end zone. But I also
- 1:03:11Speaker 6: understand that who's going to catch it is.
- 1:03:15Speaker 5: A target on a hail Mary is there, like, you know,
- 1:03:17Speaker 5: are you really trying to throw who play? Or is
- 1:03:18Speaker 5: it just kind of disperse?
- 1:03:20Speaker 6: I think you do.
- 1:03:21Speaker 5: Well.
- 1:03:21Speaker 4: Now you're throwing it to a pile, and you have
- 1:03:23Speaker 4: a guy who the trailer, yeah, extricates himself from the pile.
- 1:03:27Speaker 5: I guess journalism words on me here today. I don't
- 1:03:30Speaker 5: know what they mean.
- 1:03:31Speaker 6: But the way they've done it in the past is
- 1:03:34Speaker 6: Hunter Henry is the jumper and he goes down there
- 1:03:37Speaker 6: to basically volleyball tip it in the air and then
- 1:03:42Speaker 6: they'll have somebody run behind it.
- 1:03:43Speaker 4: There's a rhyme of reason. Like you said, that's I mean,
- 1:03:46Speaker 4: it's not just you know, I mean, it's a fluke,
- 1:03:49Speaker 4: but it's not like without any kind of practice. They
- 1:03:53Speaker 4: were talking about this a little bit on my show yesterday.
- 1:03:57Speaker 4: What do you think of the idea of like throwing
- 1:03:59Speaker 4: like a Christian Gonzales out there on a play like that? Sure,
- 1:04:03Speaker 4: like is he like could you make a case that
- 1:04:06Speaker 4: he's the best athlete on the team. Yeah, long fast, Yeah,
- 1:04:12Speaker 4: you know, but you know, maybe he can get his
- 1:04:14Speaker 4: hands on it where you know, like obviously Tomorio Douglas,
- 1:04:17Speaker 4: you know, it's not really ideal to.
- 1:04:20Speaker 3: Everyone thinks like wide receivers, tight ends and all that,
- 1:04:22Speaker 3: but like, if you've got a six eight lineman, put
- 1:04:25Speaker 3: him in the middle of the pile to be the
- 1:04:27Speaker 3: volleyball to.
- 1:04:29Speaker 4: Now you have to get him fifty yards down field, right,
- 1:04:31Speaker 4: that's going to take. That's going to take a little bit.
- 1:04:33Speaker 3: I guess.
- 1:04:34Speaker 6: Yeah, you also wanted to be somebody that has a
- 1:04:36Speaker 6: good vertical, Like you don't want him to just be
- 1:04:38Speaker 6: standing six eight.
- 1:04:40Speaker 3: But nobody's gonna move him around. That's true.
- 1:04:42Speaker 23: You know.
- 1:04:43Speaker 6: Christian is an interesting theory.
- 1:04:45Speaker 20: You know.
- 1:04:46Speaker 4: I think Mike brought him up yesterday and I was like,
- 1:04:49Speaker 4: you know what, that's not a bad thought, because I
- 1:04:52Speaker 4: think they they're sort of lacking those kinds of guys.
- 1:04:55Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:04:56Speaker 6: I saw him at practice probably a couple of weeks ago,
- 1:05:02Speaker 6: and they were doing one on ones. But it was
- 1:05:05Speaker 6: like the DB's were playing wide receiver too, because the
- 1:05:08Speaker 6: receivers are off on their own, and so they ran
- 1:05:11Speaker 6: a back shoulder fade to Gonzales playing receiver and he
- 1:05:16Speaker 6: one handed Gronk styled it and tapped his toes and downs,
- 1:05:20Speaker 6: and I was like, you might be the best wide
- 1:05:21Speaker 6: receiver on.
- 1:05:23Speaker 3: We don't need Travis.
- 1:05:26Speaker 4: You guys here Drake may when he was on with Andy, Yeah,
- 1:05:31Speaker 4: a little bit funny. I loved that.
- 1:05:33Speaker 3: Well he was he was on the phone, but.
- 1:05:35Speaker 4: He was on with Andy in Arcand and well, I
- 1:05:39Speaker 4: actually I think it was Fitzy because Arcan wasn't. But
- 1:05:43Speaker 4: they asked him, you know about the throw, and he goes,
- 1:05:47Speaker 4: you know, you really shouldn't be in the NFL if
- 1:05:50Speaker 4: you can't make that throw, which I loved because I've
- 1:05:52Speaker 4: been saying that for one hundred years. Like there's not
- 1:05:55Speaker 4: a guy like the Jade and Daniels throwing the ball
- 1:05:58Speaker 4: sixty five yards or whatever. He did not the impressive part.
- 1:06:01Speaker 4: It was him buying twelve seconds of time, right, is
- 1:06:05Speaker 4: the impressive part of that play. Like those guys can
- 1:06:08Speaker 4: all throw the ball that far.
- 1:06:10Speaker 3: Yep, I don't think MAT's that good. Maybe not that guy.
- 1:06:15Speaker 3: We Yeah, I see what you did there, Christ and
- 1:06:19Speaker 3: flagstaff says, Mayo on a cheese steak is good. You're right.
- 1:06:23Speaker 3: I do apologize. I have to say, Mayo an Italian
- 1:06:26Speaker 3: you put you can't put Mayo on an Italian.
- 1:06:28Speaker 6: Mayo on a cheese steak, it you can't do that.
- 1:06:31Speaker 3: But that's the way they do it in Philly.
- 1:06:32Speaker 4: But may I w a cheese steak?
- 1:06:34Speaker 3: If not, I don't, I don't order it that way.
- 1:06:36Speaker 3: But that's the way the original cheese steak is.
- 1:06:39Speaker 6: I haven't ever a cheeseteak in Philly with Mayo.
- 1:06:42Speaker 3: Really, you went to that placesandros that one we got to.
- 1:06:48Speaker 6: My roommates in college are from Philly, so I've had
- 1:06:51Speaker 6: dozens of cheese steaks. Nope, don't approve.
- 1:06:56Speaker 3: Mayo w a hot dog.
- 1:06:57Speaker 4: But I did love Drake may like. Of course I
- 1:07:00Speaker 4: can make that.
- 1:07:03Speaker 3: Man. Are there people on the phone? Because I see people,
- 1:07:06Speaker 3: but I don't have names.
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: I completely got to type the names, and I'm sorry.
- 1:07:09Speaker 4: Hold on, question Mark had been the longest.
- 1:07:13Speaker 3: Hey you okay alone. Hearing some of his Marie these stories,
- 1:07:25Speaker 3: I'm a little more afraid of it's such a snob.
- 1:07:29Speaker 3: So let's go to the TPX outline. Jeff's on the line.
- 1:07:31Speaker 3: What's up, Jeff? He's not.
- 1:07:34Speaker 8: I was just checking to see if he was still.
- 1:07:36Speaker 3: Jeff is gone. Jeff Callbacke yes when I say something
- 1:07:45Speaker 3: next time. This is yesterday we had the lights go
- 1:07:49Speaker 3: out because I plugged him the eater and today we
- 1:07:51Speaker 3: have the phones a mess Patty's an aga.
- 1:07:56Speaker 4: What's up?
- 1:07:56Speaker 3: Patty?
- 1:07:58Speaker 11: What's up?
- 1:07:58Speaker 8: Gentlemen?
- 1:07:59Speaker 11: There is.
- 1:08:02Speaker 24: So I want to touch on just a couple of things.
- 1:08:05Speaker 24: The first thing is all these calls for Mayo to
- 1:08:08Speaker 24: be fired to me, Like, Paully, I know you weren't
- 1:08:11Speaker 24: there when I call him in on the pregame show,
- 1:08:13Speaker 24: but I made the point that, like, if you look
- 1:08:16Speaker 24: at what's going on in Chicago, does anybody really want
- 1:08:19Speaker 24: that to happen here? Like in Drake May's first season?
- 1:08:22Speaker 24: And I'll just say, like, if midway through his year,
- 1:08:26Speaker 24: if they're not well on their way to becoming, like,
- 1:08:29Speaker 24: you know, one of the top teams in the AFC
- 1:08:31Speaker 24: and competing hard with Buffalo of the division, then I
- 1:08:34Speaker 24: might say, yeah, it might be time to move on.
- 1:08:37Speaker 24: And on the jerseys, I say, go back to the
- 1:08:41Speaker 24: go back to the throwbacks, because you can wear the
- 1:08:43Speaker 24: blue tops with them, and you can, like I remember
- 1:08:47Speaker 24: sending in like a picture of Brady with the white
- 1:08:49Speaker 24: helmet with the flying Elvis logo, with the blue top
- 1:08:52Speaker 24: and the white pants, go with something like that, because
- 1:08:55Speaker 24: to me that looked awesome.
- 1:08:57Speaker 11: Guys.
- 1:08:57Speaker 3: Thanks. I I was gonna ask Pat if he knew
- 1:09:01Speaker 3: that he was our most hated caller. Oh do tell yeah.
- 1:09:05Speaker 5: No.
- 1:09:06Speaker 3: I had one person who emailed remember the show where
- 1:09:08Speaker 3: I objected to like the wild game hunting and I said,
- 1:09:12Speaker 3: I don't like seeing animals suffer or people suffer. And
- 1:09:15Speaker 3: somebody said, if that's the case, why do you have
- 1:09:18Speaker 3: Patty on the show? Oh wowow, yeah, yeah, a lot
- 1:09:22Speaker 3: of a lot of people.
- 1:09:22Speaker 4: I do like collar on Coller Crime that.
- 1:09:25Speaker 3: Patty gets a lot of caller on college.
- 1:09:27Speaker 4: He does. I didn't realize he was the most hated
- 1:09:29Speaker 4: call with though, but he was not out there. He
- 1:09:31Speaker 4: would not have been one of my candidates for that role.
- 1:09:34Speaker 4: I do have a few in mind, but I think I.
- 1:09:37Speaker 3: Think, you know, getting that Moniker, he should be proud
- 1:09:41Speaker 3: of that. Yeah, you know, to elicit that type of
- 1:09:45Speaker 3: visceral reaction.
- 1:09:46Speaker 6: Where it is a badge of honor. But I definitely
- 1:09:50Speaker 6: think the Patriots should be competitive next year, like year three.
- 1:09:55Speaker 4: I think they have a chance. I mean, well, I'll
- 1:09:58Speaker 4: revisit when I see what they do in the off season.
- 1:10:00Speaker 4: But they have the money they have, They're going to
- 1:10:02Speaker 4: have high draft picks. You need to hit the funny.
- 1:10:05Speaker 5: They'll be the the arguments about defense and offense, because
- 1:10:07Speaker 5: they'll be you know, people like me who are decrying
- 1:10:10Speaker 5: the defense and the condition of them and the direction
- 1:10:12Speaker 5: that they're headed. And then they'll be the same. We
- 1:10:14Speaker 5: need protection and weapons, and everybody's right, but it's just
- 1:10:17Speaker 5: that's where we'll argue, is how do you best spend
- 1:10:19Speaker 5: their assets?
- 1:10:20Speaker 4: But that's the best part is like you can do either.
- 1:10:23Speaker 3: I can't wait for the off season.
- 1:10:25Speaker 4: You need a lot of it.
- 1:10:26Speaker 3: They I think we're going to art.
- 1:10:28Speaker 6: They have the quarterback, and they have the resources to
- 1:10:31Speaker 6: build the roster around the quarterback. Correct, they should be
- 1:10:34Speaker 6: contending for the playoffs next year. I'm not saying the
- 1:10:37Speaker 6: should win a super Bowl, but they should be in
- 1:10:39Speaker 6: the mix to contend for the playoffs.
- 1:10:41Speaker 4: If they do it right, they can be I would
- 1:10:43Speaker 4: say that the word should is probably a little strong,
- 1:10:46Speaker 4: but I don't think it's outrageous. I think they could
- 1:10:50Speaker 4: contend for a playoff spot next year.
- 1:10:51Speaker 3: Joe's back, He's in Delaware. What's up, Joe?
- 1:10:56Speaker 4: Right?
- 1:10:56Speaker 25: Text for taking the call.
- 1:10:58Speaker 11: I used to be.
- 1:10:58Speaker 26: A producer at a small sports radio station, and Matt
- 1:11:02Speaker 26: is absolutely killing it.
- 1:11:03Speaker 25: But he might need some help because I know it's
- 1:11:06Speaker 25: a busy, busy job.
- 1:11:08Speaker 4: I forgot the type of name in well, he needs help,
- 1:11:12Speaker 4: but not with his job.
- 1:11:15Speaker 3: He's talking about that we'll give him a silver bullet.
- 1:11:18Speaker 23: I know that, I know.
- 1:11:19Speaker 26: That we have like a lot of free agency cap space.
- 1:11:24Speaker 26: I'm really worried that we're going to be paying the
- 1:11:26Speaker 26: wrong people or prioritizing the wrong players and positions, just
- 1:11:32Speaker 26: based off of what happened in the last offseason, and
- 1:11:37Speaker 26: ESPN currently projects the Patriots to have the top overall pick.
- 1:11:42Speaker 26: I'm a big span at Tedero McMillan. But should we
- 1:11:45Speaker 26: trade out of that to acquire more assets or I
- 1:11:50Speaker 26: think taking Travis Hunter is going to be a big mistake.
- 1:11:54Speaker 26: But I think Travis Hunter is a very very very
- 1:11:59Speaker 26: good cornerback and he could be used on offense. But
- 1:12:05Speaker 26: he's not an elite wide receiver like Keero McMillan.
- 1:12:09Speaker 3: Okay, but.
- 1:12:11Speaker 6: Based off of.
- 1:12:12Speaker 26: What based off of I think Keer McMillan is just better.
- 1:12:18Speaker 11: It's just the eyeball test.
- 1:12:20Speaker 26: I think Travis Hunter is very good, but I think
- 1:12:22Speaker 26: he's a better cornerback than he is wider.
- 1:12:25Speaker 3: But if you're thinking about trading down for more assets,
- 1:12:29Speaker 3: you take Travis Hunter, and you kind of got two
- 1:12:31Speaker 3: picks in one well without plus.
- 1:12:33Speaker 4: You need to have someone want to trade up for you, Yeah, right,
- 1:12:36Speaker 4: to get more assets. Would I don't think that trading
- 1:12:39Speaker 4: up is going to cost as much this year in
- 1:12:42Speaker 4: this draft, thanks Jo, And it would in normal draft
- 1:12:45Speaker 4: based on what everyone was talking about yesterday about the
- 1:12:47Speaker 4: lack of blue chip talent at the top of the draft.
- 1:12:49Speaker 6: Yeah, Dame Brewler put out his first mock draft today,
- 1:12:52Speaker 6: and I think out of all these guys, like, it's
- 1:12:55Speaker 6: not so much about which team takes which player right now,
- 1:12:58Speaker 6: it's more about where the players are on the.
- 1:13:00Speaker 3: Board, sacking your board. Yeah, horizontally as well as horizontal.
- 1:13:04Speaker 15: Right.
- 1:13:05Speaker 6: I am months away from that, but correct, let us know.
- 1:13:08Speaker 3: I will.
- 1:13:11Speaker 6: Trust me. Shador Sanders and cam Ward both went in
- 1:13:14Speaker 6: the top five at quarterback. And I don't know if
- 1:13:18Speaker 6: those are quarterbacks that you sell the farm for, but
- 1:13:21Speaker 6: it definitely feels like they are quarterbacks in this draft
- 1:13:24Speaker 6: that are rejected now to go in the top ten.
- 1:13:28Speaker 6: So to Paul's point, do you have a do you
- 1:13:31Speaker 6: get a king's ransom for them? I don't know, but
- 1:13:34Speaker 6: there is maybe a little bit more of a possibility
- 1:13:37Speaker 6: that a trade down because a team is coming up
- 1:13:39Speaker 6: for a court.
- 1:13:40Speaker 4: To me, like a guy like that, A guy like
- 1:13:42Speaker 4: cam Wood is a guy that if I'm the Giants
- 1:13:45Speaker 4: and I'm sitting at three and cam Wood's available, maybe
- 1:13:47Speaker 4: I take him. If I like Kim Wood, but he's
- 1:13:50Speaker 4: not a guy if I'm at eight, I'm trading to
- 1:13:52Speaker 4: three to get.
- 1:13:52Speaker 6: It's a fair point.
- 1:13:53Speaker 4: So like that's like that might just be me. Maybe
- 1:13:56Speaker 4: these teams will feel differently.
- 1:13:57Speaker 3: So let's let's just say that the team that's interested
- 1:13:59Speaker 3: in Shador or a quarterback high where the Patriots are
- 1:14:03Speaker 3: sitting is a team that's rebuilding. Should the Patriots, instead
- 1:14:07Speaker 3: of looking for more draft picks, be looking for a
- 1:14:10Speaker 3: seasoned veteran that they might want to give up and
- 1:14:14Speaker 3: then like a fourth round pick but maybe some instant help.
- 1:14:18Speaker 4: I think they need to do a little bit of
- 1:14:21Speaker 4: all of this. Yeah, if you want to do what
- 1:14:22Speaker 4: Evan's saying and be like a true contender for the
- 1:14:25Speaker 4: playoffs next year. They're not like two offensive linemen away
- 1:14:30Speaker 4: from that or a wide receiver away right, They're all
- 1:14:33Speaker 4: of these things away from that that Mike talks about.
- 1:14:36Speaker 4: The you know, the pieces on defense, And we've talked
- 1:14:38Speaker 4: to obviously incessantly about the pieces they lack on offense.
- 1:14:43Speaker 4: They need a couple of wide receivers, a couple of
- 1:14:45Speaker 4: alignment probably at least one cornerback and edge rusher, minebacker help.
- 1:14:51Speaker 4: If they can get let's let's just count that as
- 1:14:53Speaker 4: ten players. If they can get five of those ten players,
- 1:14:57Speaker 4: they can be a contender for a playoff spot next year.
- 1:14:59Speaker 4: But like you get like one or two of those
- 1:15:01Speaker 4: things filled, you're probably gonna be like seven wins because
- 1:15:06Speaker 4: Drake figures to get better, you know, natural progression. He
- 1:15:09Speaker 4: figures to make the guys that he has better because
- 1:15:12Speaker 4: of that. But it's not just going to be a
- 1:15:14Speaker 4: magic fix. They need help, They need they need support
- 1:15:17Speaker 4: around them.
- 1:15:17Speaker 6: Yeah, we'll do this more on Cash twenty three tomorrow,
- 1:15:20Speaker 6: so I won't go too long.
- 1:15:21Speaker 4: But no one will really be listening.
- 1:15:23Speaker 6: That's not.
- 1:15:25Speaker 4: I know what I've met meet.
- 1:15:26Speaker 6: Yeah there, Hey, we have a pretty good listenership.
- 1:15:30Speaker 4: I know you. If you didn't, I wouldn't have said that.
- 1:15:35Speaker 3: People are People are sharpening their pencils right now to
- 1:15:38Speaker 3: get ready for that show.
- 1:15:39Speaker 6: Yes, I wanted I wanted to watch Teed McMillan and
- 1:15:44Speaker 6: be wowed. I went into it thinking, please show me
- 1:15:48Speaker 6: Molik Neighbors or Marvin Harrison Junior, and I just didn't
- 1:15:51Speaker 6: see that. Now that doesn't mean that he's a bad player,
- 1:15:54Speaker 6: but I see just in terms of projection and ceiling
- 1:15:58Speaker 6: somewhere closer to like a T Higgins or like a
- 1:16:01Speaker 6: Drake London or someone along those lines. With Tet McMillan,
- 1:16:04Speaker 6: I don't see a top five elite wide receiver prospect.
- 1:16:09Speaker 6: So I actually from the caller, I would have those
- 1:16:12Speaker 6: I would have them flipped like, I think Travis Hunter
- 1:16:14Speaker 6: is a much better prospect that wide receiver than Teed
- 1:16:17Speaker 6: McMillan is. But Travis Hunter is his own thing, So okay,
- 1:16:22Speaker 6: there you go.
- 1:16:23Speaker 3: Attention. Patriots Nation, the most nail biting action film of
- 1:16:27Speaker 3: the season, Carry On, starring Taron Edgerton, Sophia Carson, and
- 1:16:31Speaker 3: Jason Bateman, touches down on Netflix on December thirteenth, just
- 1:16:36Speaker 3: in time for the holidays. Only Liquid's allowed, Blood, Sweat
- 1:16:40Speaker 3: and Tears Catch carry on December thirteenth, only on Netflix.
- 1:16:46Speaker 3: And I got a bulletin. The Rob Gronkowski Pats from
- 1:16:51Speaker 3: the Past podcast dropped today, so we had Rob Gronkowski
- 1:16:56Speaker 3: in the building because there's a new exhibit at the
- 1:16:58Speaker 3: Hall at Patriot Place. It's a Spike the Ball like
- 1:17:01Speaker 3: Rob exhibit that you can do, you know, one of
- 1:17:04Speaker 3: those hands on things. But while he was here, he
- 1:17:06Speaker 3: spent what about an hour with you and no socks.
- 1:17:08Speaker 4: He did it was great. He was as enthusiastic as
- 1:17:11Speaker 4: he's always is, just that same guy right there for
- 1:17:18Speaker 4: the entirety of the show. I think there's some interesting
- 1:17:21Speaker 4: stuff that he mentions, Like we sort of set him
- 1:17:24Speaker 4: up to sort of pick his you know, what he
- 1:17:27Speaker 4: thought was the best team, and we kind of led
- 1:17:29Speaker 4: him in a direction what he thought the best team
- 1:17:31Speaker 4: that he played on. He button hooked us. So you
- 1:17:34Speaker 4: might want to listen to that and see which which
- 1:17:37Speaker 4: team he thought was the best Patriots team that he
- 1:17:39Speaker 4: was a part of and talked about, you know, some
- 1:17:42Speaker 4: great memories like the Kansas City AFC championship and yeah,
- 1:17:46Speaker 4: it's good, some good storytelling. Gronk is like really scattered,
- 1:17:50Speaker 4: He's all over the place, so you got to kind
- 1:17:51Speaker 4: of like stick with it. Yeah, sometimes it takes him
- 1:17:54Speaker 4: a long time to get to Grandma's house, right, But
- 1:17:56Speaker 4: I think it's worth the wait good it was really
- 1:17:58Speaker 4: that's on.
- 1:18:00Speaker 3: That's on Patriots dot com and wherever you get your podcast.
- 1:18:03Speaker 3: That's out now. So Pats from the past, and if
- 1:18:05Speaker 3: you're not familiar with Pats in the past, I think
- 1:18:07Speaker 3: this is like your fortieth podcast, forty ninth I think. Okay,
- 1:18:15Speaker 3: So there's a lot of catching up for you to do.
- 1:18:17Speaker 3: If this is your.
- 1:18:18Speaker 4: First want to ignore like the first twenty or so,
- 1:18:21Speaker 4: if I was a lot of good ones, well yeah,
- 1:18:23Speaker 4: Brian did did them with No Fox originally and they Yeah,
- 1:18:26Speaker 4: there's a lot of good stuff.
- 1:18:27Speaker 3: Yep, yep. Chris, our webmaster, says for the Firefox listener
- 1:18:34Speaker 3: having issues watching the Scream with Firefox, make sure you
- 1:18:37Speaker 3: have cookies and JavaScript enabled, and also clear your cookies.
- 1:18:42Speaker 3: He says, Fred Firefox is making a big comeback. It
- 1:18:45Speaker 3: runs way better than Chrome, so take that curse except
- 1:18:50Speaker 3: for our show.
- 1:18:51Speaker 6: To make sure you have cookies on, but clear.
- 1:18:52Speaker 3: Your control all five or something. Control. That was always
- 1:18:57Speaker 3: the answer we.
- 1:18:59Speaker 4: Try starting Do you have the Blue Screen of Death?
- 1:19:01Speaker 6: Did you try plugging it in and unplugging it?
- 1:19:04Speaker 4: So deuce you're you're a Hollywood type. Have you ever
- 1:19:08Speaker 4: seen anything with Jason Bateman in it that you didn't
- 1:19:12Speaker 4: like He's He's great.
- 1:19:14Speaker 5: We did a show with him. Actually, we did an
- 1:19:15Speaker 5: animated show called Sit Down, Shut Up with Mitch Herwitz.
- 1:19:18Speaker 2: Uh.
- 1:19:19Speaker 5: It was for Fox. Ran for about a season. Pretty funny.
- 1:19:21Speaker 5: A lot of his guys from Arrested But yeah, nice guy,
- 1:19:24Speaker 5: nice guy, good guy.
- 1:19:25Speaker 3: So you actually met him? I met him, Yeah, I
- 1:19:27Speaker 3: meant you work with him on a you know, peer
- 1:19:30Speaker 3: to peer basis.
- 1:19:31Speaker 5: Well, no, I was kind of the assistant, you know, like, hello, Jason,
- 1:19:33Speaker 5: would you like, can I get.
- 1:19:33Speaker 3: You a water?
- 1:19:35Speaker 5: Was my assistance tost I've said though in the same show,
- 1:19:38Speaker 5: Will Arnette was on that tune. Willarn that was still
- 1:19:40Speaker 5: the funniest celebrity I ever met, Like just I mean
- 1:19:43Speaker 5: he just I'm here to Mitch, you know, like that
- 1:19:46Speaker 5: was its Everything comes out of his voice, out of
- 1:19:48Speaker 5: his mouth.
- 1:19:48Speaker 6: You think that's annoying, like to be one of those
- 1:19:51Speaker 6: people that you and constantly laughing. It just he's just
- 1:19:55Speaker 6: so funny that everything he says you just laugh at.
- 1:19:57Speaker 4: That was on the Yeah, it's like guy, I was Chris,
- 1:20:01Speaker 4: but like, what.
- 1:20:01Speaker 5: A career for Jason Baby, I mean he started like,
- 1:20:03Speaker 5: well he's on like the eighties. He's like a kid actor.
- 1:20:05Speaker 4: Oh yeah, he like It's your move I think was
- 1:20:07Speaker 4: the name of that show. The first thing I saw him.
- 1:20:09Speaker 3: He like.
- 1:20:10Speaker 4: I like him and everything he's ever been into. Was
- 1:20:12Speaker 4: given the read for the the Netflix movie you know,
- 1:20:16Speaker 4: the Jason Bateman part of you know, No offense to
- 1:20:18Speaker 4: the Who's Who's Terrific? Taron Edgerton, I believe was the
- 1:20:24Speaker 4: one that play at Elton John. Yeah, and you're fantastic Rocketman.
- 1:20:30Speaker 3: No, it's amazing.
- 1:20:32Speaker 4: I don't think it was supposed to be a joke.
- 1:20:34Speaker 3: No, I thought she was a woman. No, Taren Oh,
- 1:20:41Speaker 3: tarn Edgerton. It's a man, yes, okay.
- 1:20:44Speaker 5: A man?
- 1:20:46Speaker 3: Oh man? All right.
- 1:20:48Speaker 6: Horrible Boss is a great movie.
- 1:20:50Speaker 5: It's another one.
- 1:20:51Speaker 3: He's always funny.
- 1:20:51Speaker 4: Oh yeah, very fun kind of like Jennifer Anderson.
- 1:20:54Speaker 8: That one.
- 1:20:56Speaker 3: Well, you know, yeah, good good casting.
- 1:21:00Speaker 4: There particular line in that bed I'm good with every time.
- 1:21:08Speaker 3: David Monterey, California writes in he says, I'm a captain
- 1:21:11Speaker 3: for my local fire department. My station is planning a
- 1:21:15Speaker 3: remodel and appliance upgrades. One of the upgrades includes a
- 1:21:19Speaker 3: new washer and dryer for the on duty cruise I
- 1:21:22Speaker 3: was recently discussing this with another captain and he asked
- 1:21:25Speaker 3: my opinion about which washer and dryer we should get.
- 1:21:30Speaker 3: He began the list with Speed Queen. I stopped him
- 1:21:33Speaker 3: right there and emphatically threw my support behind the Speed Queen,
- 1:21:36Speaker 3: citing the steel drum and twenty five year lifespan. Although
- 1:21:40Speaker 3: in my head I was thinking Fred said they're worth it,
- 1:21:43Speaker 3: and he can afford any washer and dryer he wants,
- 1:21:45Speaker 3: so they must be good. That's not true. I didn't
- 1:21:47Speaker 3: even entertain other options. My assertive response went unchallenged. So
- 1:21:52Speaker 3: we will be ordering the Speed Queen washer and dryer. Fred,
- 1:21:56Speaker 3: you need to get a sponsorship from them. Yeah, that's funny,
- 1:21:59Speaker 3: tough on the that's exactly where speech, you know, queed
- 1:22:02Speaker 3: shines in those types of scenaster.
- 1:22:08Speaker 6: Yeah, thanks to the firefighters.
- 1:22:09Speaker 3: Thank you for this is why I've been listening to
- 1:22:12Speaker 3: you guys since six I get product reviews, movie and
- 1:22:15Speaker 3: TV show recommendations, travel and dining tips, and most of all,
- 1:22:19Speaker 3: great year round patriots analysis. You guys truly are the
- 1:22:22Speaker 3: faces and voices of the organization as thank you, well,
- 1:22:26Speaker 3: thank you Dave. That's that's really nice.
- 1:22:29Speaker 4: Really moving to get a little more appreciation from within
- 1:22:32Speaker 4: the building.
- 1:22:33Speaker 5: Can we shoot like a fake speed queen ad with Fred,
- 1:22:36Speaker 5: Like that's I'm Fred Kursh. You might know me from
- 1:22:38Speaker 5: the World's Original Park.
- 1:22:40Speaker 4: We used to do that all the time at Walpole
- 1:22:42Speaker 4: Park South when Dave Crizzoli used to run Patriots Patriots Today,
- 1:22:47Speaker 4: I think it was called then, and he like he
- 1:22:50Speaker 4: was constantly like filming like these fake spots, right, like
- 1:22:53Speaker 4: just a random like aerosol can would be there and
- 1:22:56Speaker 4: he'd walk up and he'd grabbing Hi. I'm Dave Grizzoli
- 1:22:59Speaker 4: for clean dude, one.
- 1:23:00Speaker 5: On one, A piece of time one always great.
- 1:23:03Speaker 6: I like this idea, this has this has like fake
- 1:23:05Speaker 6: pu ads.
- 1:23:08Speaker 5: What about this in the newsletter? Can we just do
- 1:23:09Speaker 5: a graphic with like, like do a magazine print ad
- 1:23:12Speaker 5: of Fred in front of a speed queen, like you know.
- 1:23:14Speaker 4: Like like there might be some information an upcoming newsletter.
- 1:23:17Speaker 5: Don't don't don't sleep on that, like and it's got
- 1:23:21Speaker 5: like the signature on it like.
- 1:23:22Speaker 3: Fred Kirsh, like he said, like the old style.
- 1:23:26Speaker 4: Commentary look serious most interesting.
- 1:23:29Speaker 3: When the little lady asked for appliances, I looked around
- 1:23:31Speaker 3: and did research. I find it speaking.
- 1:23:37Speaker 4: It's the best.
- 1:23:38Speaker 3: I'll never use it because I'm the man of the house.
- 1:23:43Speaker 3: That's how I worked. I mean, do you ever see
- 1:23:45Speaker 3: those old ads. It's unbelievable. So I love the ones.
- 1:23:49Speaker 3: Nine out of ten doctors recommend what was what cigarette?
- 1:23:54Speaker 3: Was it? Oh? God, yeah, something like that. Nine out
- 1:23:58Speaker 3: of ten.
- 1:23:59Speaker 8: You know, recom and leave it to beaver.
- 1:24:01Speaker 1: When they ask the dad, why do the men grill
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: and the women stay in the kitchen?
- 1:24:04Speaker 8: He guys off on the whole ran.
- 1:24:05Speaker 3: Oh yeah, Dad's gonna slaughter me on account I didn't
- 1:24:08Speaker 3: do my homework. Oh all right, let's go to the
- 1:24:14Speaker 3: TPS outline. Jason, Arkansas, what's up, Jay? Jay?
- 1:24:20Speaker 25: Hey, always enjoyed listening and listening to you guys as
- 1:24:24Speaker 25: often as a thought in boards being run.
- 1:24:28Speaker 3: Great today.
- 1:24:29Speaker 25: By the way, Hey, a couple of couple of things
- 1:24:32Speaker 25: for you guys. First, you guys are talking about expectations
- 1:24:35Speaker 25: for the season, and of course living down here in Arkansas.
- 1:24:39Speaker 25: I can give you just as an example. So the
- 1:24:43Speaker 25: Razorbacks won four games last year and the coach was
- 1:24:48Speaker 25: on the hot seat. They somewhat turned it around this
- 1:24:52Speaker 25: year and won six games. They're ball eligible, right, and
- 1:24:55Speaker 25: everyone going into the season predicted they'll do well to
- 1:25:00Speaker 25: get ball eligible, and so now that they're ball eligible,
- 1:25:05Speaker 25: everyone still wants the coach fired because of how it
- 1:25:07Speaker 25: looked during the season. And I'd just like to hear
- 1:25:10Speaker 25: you guys talk about expectation, and you know, going into
- 1:25:14Speaker 25: the season, no one, I guess everyone knew this would
- 1:25:19Speaker 25: look potentially bad this year.
- 1:25:22Speaker 11: No one predicted more than three to four even the
- 1:25:25Speaker 11: most stuff optimistic, you know, thought, oh, maybe late in
- 1:25:28Speaker 11: the year.
- 1:25:31Speaker 4: Higher than the three or four weeks.
- 1:25:34Speaker 11: But but I guess the point is now that we're
- 1:25:38Speaker 11: seeing it play out and how it actually looks, that's
- 1:25:41Speaker 11: where emotion gets involved and people get upset, right, and
- 1:25:44Speaker 11: so people don't like things all the.
- 1:25:46Speaker 25: Way down to the details of what GIAD says and
- 1:25:49Speaker 25: press conferences, right, So just all that culminates into this
- 1:25:53Speaker 25: dissatisfaction and all that when I think, for me, you.
- 1:25:57Speaker 11: Take a step back.
- 1:25:58Speaker 25: It's like we knew it would be painful, so now
- 1:26:01Speaker 25: you just sludge through it, do the best you can.
- 1:26:03Speaker 11: I know that's it's pro sports and all, and we're
- 1:26:07Speaker 11: not in it for that, But you get the point is,
- 1:26:09Speaker 11: I don't what frustrates me from time to time is
- 1:26:12Speaker 11: hearing people who knew it was going to be tough
- 1:26:17Speaker 11: act as if it wasn't going to be. It feels like,
- 1:26:22Speaker 11: so I'd love to hear you guys talk about that
- 1:26:24Speaker 11: and then real quickly on the one thing that stood
- 1:26:28Speaker 11: out to me that I heard Daniel Jeremiah Day recently,
- 1:26:31Speaker 11: I think specifically about the Patriots that I thought was
- 1:26:35Speaker 11: really good that he said basically, any position other than quarterback,
- 1:26:41Speaker 11: that team needs blue chippers. He calls them blue players
- 1:26:46Speaker 11: at every position. So maybe outside of a Gonzales, outside
- 1:26:51Speaker 11: of Drake, it doesn't matter what the position is. Just
- 1:26:55Speaker 11: get as many of those first, second, maybe third round
- 1:26:59Speaker 11: guys that you can and continue to build that roster.
- 1:27:03Speaker 3: Yep, thanks guys, all right, thanks Jay.
- 1:27:06Speaker 4: Yeah, I would just say, you know, because I think
- 1:27:08Speaker 4: Jay makes a really good point about the way it
- 1:27:12Speaker 4: looks and the perceptions and all that stuff can kind
- 1:27:16Speaker 4: of change, and I think there's there's a lot of
- 1:27:19Speaker 4: validity to that. I would just look at, like, don't
- 1:27:22Speaker 4: focus on the record as much, but like the last
- 1:27:26Speaker 4: the two of the two of the last three, the
- 1:27:29Speaker 4: two last two home games rams Colts, right, they're both losses.
- 1:27:34Speaker 4: I think we floated in here after the Rams game.
- 1:27:37Speaker 4: It's like, I mean, in very similar teams. I use
- 1:27:40Speaker 4: those two teams because they're also I think they have
- 1:27:43Speaker 4: the same record.
- 1:27:43Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:27:44Speaker 4: Actually I think they're both like six and seven or
- 1:27:46Speaker 4: five and five and six, five and six something, you
- 1:27:49Speaker 4: know whatever. They're very similar. They were one. I think
- 1:27:51Speaker 4: they're both like one game below five hundred or five hundred.
- 1:27:57Speaker 4: The Rams game, you looked at it and you're like, yeah,
- 1:28:01Speaker 4: they were hanging on, they were scrapping. You know, Drake
- 1:28:04Speaker 4: played well. Drake made all these plays. First half. Drake
- 1:28:07Speaker 4: was like on fire, and they had a chance at
- 1:28:09Speaker 4: the end and they unfortunately they couldn't pull it off.
- 1:28:12Speaker 4: The Colts game, I think the Colt the Colts game,
- 1:28:15Speaker 4: the Patriots dominated, really they kind of dominated.
- 1:28:18Speaker 3: They were the better team in the field, and.
- 1:28:21Speaker 4: They lost the game at the end because they couldn't
- 1:28:23Speaker 4: make the plays. And I personally had two entirely different
- 1:28:28Speaker 4: outlooks after those two games. They both losses. Like so
- 1:28:33Speaker 4: on paper you just look and say, well, what are
- 1:28:34Speaker 4: you expecting, Like you're expecting to lose more than you won.
- 1:28:38Speaker 4: But I think that those two games can be perceived.
- 1:28:40Speaker 3: It can be but when you look at the season
- 1:28:43Speaker 3: as a whole. Most people were predicting a bad season.
- 1:28:47Speaker 3: I mean, mister Homer here said the ceiling was six.
- 1:28:51Speaker 3: Ye when you did that was my ceiling.
- 1:28:53Speaker 4: Because you were rational, right, not like the Boston glow.
- 1:28:56Speaker 3: So when you're gonna win six or less games in
- 1:28:58Speaker 3: a season, a lot of bad things are gonna happen
- 1:29:01Speaker 3: eight or nine, you know. And it's just when they happen,
- 1:29:04Speaker 3: how they manifest it, you know. And when they do happen,
- 1:29:08Speaker 3: you're gonna point fingers. And that's what's happening right now,
- 1:29:11Speaker 3: And it happens with every bad team. Fingers start. Is
- 1:29:14Speaker 3: it the coach? Is it the coordinators? Is it the players?
- 1:29:16Speaker 3: Is it the owner? Is it you know, the GM.
- 1:29:19Speaker 3: That's what happens with bad teams. And we're we haven't
- 1:29:22Speaker 3: we're not used to that because we haven't been really
- 1:29:24Speaker 3: that bad until last year when we had four wins,
- 1:29:29Speaker 3: you know. And we're also used to having a coach
- 1:29:32Speaker 3: who rarely makes a GUFA in a press conference and
- 1:29:36Speaker 3: rarely makes a bad decision during a game because of
- 1:29:40Speaker 3: his experience and his intellect, and so this is all
- 1:29:43Speaker 3: new to us. But for a bad teams. This is
- 1:29:47Speaker 3: what happens. This is what happens. You know, this is
- 1:29:52Speaker 3: what happens.
- 1:29:53Speaker 6: I think the frustrating part for me from just the
- 1:29:56Speaker 6: actual results is that it feels like Drake is ready
- 1:30:01Speaker 6: to win games in this league. Yeah, and he's played
- 1:30:05Speaker 6: at a competent level that they should be winning probably
- 1:30:08Speaker 6: half of the games that he's played in and he's
- 1:30:11Speaker 6: one in six in games that he started and finished.
- 1:30:14Speaker 3: I mean, Paul, you watched a lot of youth sports
- 1:30:16Speaker 3: with your kids, you know, and you're starting to get
- 1:30:19Speaker 3: into that. And I have to admit, if my kid
- 1:30:22Speaker 3: lost but he played really well, secretly like I'm good
- 1:30:26Speaker 3: with that as long as he played well, you know,
- 1:30:29Speaker 3: you know, and when you talk to him, like, yeah,
- 1:30:30Speaker 3: it's tough loss, tough loss, but in the back of
- 1:30:32Speaker 3: your mind like, no, my kids, my kids playing well.
- 1:30:36Speaker 3: I think that's kind of like how I feel with
- 1:30:37Speaker 3: Drake right now, Like, yeah, as long as he's playing well,
- 1:30:41Speaker 3: that's what we're building on.
- 1:30:42Speaker 5: That's been enterprise to me is like I thought there'd
- 1:30:44Speaker 5: be there'd be growing pains, and the win loss record
- 1:30:46Speaker 5: would look like what it looks like. But I just think,
- 1:30:48Speaker 5: to me, the strides that he's made. That's been really
- 1:30:51Speaker 5: the most fun part of this season for me. I've
- 1:30:53Speaker 5: seen a couple of rookie quarters.
- 1:30:54Speaker 3: Thank god for that. You know, if he wasn't.
- 1:30:56Speaker 5: Right, I mean, what if he you know, he cat
- 1:30:58Speaker 5: by the offense and you know, just to.
- 1:31:01Speaker 6: Think about how he's he's played get with what's around him, Yeah,
- 1:31:06Speaker 6: is startling, and then all you start to think about,
- 1:31:09Speaker 6: you get really excited when you start thinking about, well,
- 1:31:11Speaker 6: when there's stuff around him, what's it going to look like?
- 1:31:14Speaker 2: Right?
- 1:31:14Speaker 6: You know, right now, he's fourteenth in the QBR in
- 1:31:17Speaker 6: the league with the worst supporting cast in the NFL.
- 1:31:20Speaker 6: So he's an average NFL quarterback with the thirty second
- 1:31:25Speaker 6: pass blocking offensive line and really no elite receivers at all.
- 1:31:31Speaker 6: Neither's some guys that Hunter Henry's a solid tight end.
- 1:31:34Speaker 6: You know, there are guys that play in the league
- 1:31:36Speaker 6: that are NFL players on this on this team on offense,
- 1:31:38Speaker 6: but you know, you get him some real blue chip
- 1:31:41Speaker 6: talent on the offensive side of the ball around him.
- 1:31:44Speaker 5: I mean, like that's what's missing for me, is like
- 1:31:46Speaker 5: the guys that can take a throw from Drake that's
- 1:31:48Speaker 5: an impressive throw and do something with it. I feel
- 1:31:51Speaker 5: like a lot of these guys, now it's going to
- 1:31:53Speaker 5: be the throw and the catch, it's not going to
- 1:31:55Speaker 5: be what comes after it. With these guys, that's like
- 1:31:57Speaker 5: that's the gear that I feel like they're missing where
- 1:32:00Speaker 5: you know, even just watching some of the Broncos like
- 1:32:01Speaker 5: yeah with like with Judy where he's you know, taking
- 1:32:04Speaker 5: off down the field, they're pretty low and yeah, you
- 1:32:06Speaker 5: know those like I mean, you know those are those
- 1:32:08Speaker 5: are the things that and you just hope that it's
- 1:32:10Speaker 5: not whackam mool from here on out, that all right,
- 1:32:12Speaker 5: well we got Drake, get him the receiver, Oh no,
- 1:32:15Speaker 5: the left tackle we drafted, got heard or you know,
- 1:32:17Speaker 5: like that's the game you don't want to play. And
- 1:32:19Speaker 5: it's hard though. I mean, look at all these teams,
- 1:32:20Speaker 5: all of them are dealing with whack them moole, and
- 1:32:23Speaker 5: it's just something everything is.
- 1:32:24Speaker 4: True, I just feel. And the reason why I think
- 1:32:26Speaker 4: evans proclamation of competing for a playoff spot next year
- 1:32:29Speaker 4: isn't outrageous is because you look around the league and
- 1:32:35Speaker 4: you don't I think there are teams that compete for
- 1:32:37Speaker 4: playoff spots that quite frankly aren't all that good. I
- 1:32:40Speaker 4: don't think you have to be a great team to
- 1:32:43Speaker 4: compete for a playership. And they keep, yeah, they keep
- 1:32:45Speaker 4: expanding the playoffs. More and more teams are in. Now
- 1:32:48Speaker 4: it's up to seven playoff teams per conference. You don't
- 1:32:52Speaker 4: have to be a great team to get in that conference.
- 1:32:55Speaker 4: The Colts are not a very good.
- 1:32:56Speaker 5: Yea, I'm just going to hanging and.
- 1:32:59Speaker 4: They're eighth right now, right Like, they're not a very
- 1:33:01Speaker 4: good team. I don't think Denver is a great team.
- 1:33:03Speaker 6: That's why my expectation is that next year, because you
- 1:33:06Speaker 6: have the resources to add a lot of pieces in
- 1:33:10Speaker 6: this offseason and you're going to hit every single hole.
- 1:33:12Speaker 6: Probably not, but you have enough to be a hovering
- 1:33:16Speaker 6: around five hundred this time next year.
- 1:33:18Speaker 3: Quarterback.
- 1:33:19Speaker 5: You know, I just I'm swimming a lot in the
- 1:33:21Speaker 5: defensive thoughts because on one hand, I was ready to
- 1:33:23Speaker 5: say I'm really disappointed in the defense, but I also
- 1:33:25Speaker 5: feel like I talked a lot about the defense this summer,
- 1:33:28Speaker 5: and I was worried about the pass rush and I
- 1:33:30Speaker 5: thought that that was a key piece of it. And
- 1:33:32Speaker 5: I just but I'm still surprised that these were as
- 1:33:34Speaker 5: I said yesterday on the show, that these are this
- 1:33:36Speaker 5: is the holdover side of the ball, and how did
- 1:33:38Speaker 5: this be the side that I think we were all
- 1:33:40Speaker 5: at least counting on that that side of the ball
- 1:33:42Speaker 5: would be solid, you know, and certainly injuries have changed
- 1:33:45Speaker 5: it a little bit that that has to be said.
- 1:33:47Speaker 5: But at the same time, I just I wonder what
- 1:33:49Speaker 5: they're going to do defensively together.
- 1:33:51Speaker 3: That's going to be a big that's analysis part of it. Yeah,
- 1:33:53Speaker 3: that's a big analysis postseason is what happened to the defense? Yeah,
- 1:33:57Speaker 3: what were the reasons that contributed today?
- 1:34:00Speaker 11: They need to.
- 1:34:00Speaker 6: Decide how they want to play defense here moving forward,
- 1:34:03Speaker 6: Like are they able to truly be a Belichick defense
- 1:34:07Speaker 6: where you know, you have all these a lot of
- 1:34:09Speaker 6: mix and matching, a lot of game plan elements, a
- 1:34:12Speaker 6: lot of that type of stuff. Or are you going
- 1:34:14Speaker 6: to have to go to more of like a base
- 1:34:16Speaker 6: system where you have some tweaks here and there for
- 1:34:19Speaker 6: game plans and special circumstances. But for the most part,
- 1:34:23Speaker 6: this is just kind of what we do.
- 1:34:25Speaker 3: I've been thinking about that to be that type of defense,
- 1:34:28Speaker 3: do you need those two or three guys that they're
- 1:34:31Speaker 3: just better than the guys they line up.
- 1:34:33Speaker 6: To be to be great at it. Yeah, but I
- 1:34:35Speaker 6: think they might have two of them, you know, with
- 1:34:37Speaker 6: a healthy bar More and with Gonzales, right, So if
- 1:34:41Speaker 6: you can get a third one in here, whether it's
- 1:34:43Speaker 6: through the draft or free agency or whatever, then maybe
- 1:34:45Speaker 6: you can be that way. But I just look at
- 1:34:47Speaker 6: the good defenses across the league now, and for the
- 1:34:49Speaker 6: most part, teams are playing systems. They're not playing they're
- 1:34:53Speaker 6: not trying to be Bill Belichick and you know, make
- 1:34:56Speaker 6: everything unique and different.
- 1:34:58Speaker 3: Well, but what happens to those system defense is when
- 1:35:01Speaker 3: the injury bug hits.
- 1:35:03Speaker 6: For the most part, they survive it a little bit
- 1:35:05Speaker 6: because they have their lost you know what you need
- 1:35:07Speaker 6: right Like they you know, like they need this type
- 1:35:10Speaker 6: of player to play, right, So they might have a
- 1:35:14Speaker 6: backup who's not quite as good but is in a
- 1:35:17Speaker 6: similar mold as the starter.
- 1:35:19Speaker 5: I've been thinking a little bit. We talked to Elliot
- 1:35:21Speaker 5: Wolf last year at the draft and that was, you know,
- 1:35:23Speaker 5: really cool and one of the questions that I don't
- 1:35:25Speaker 5: know how I would ask it exactly, but it's just
- 1:35:28Speaker 5: how do you as a GM build a defense like that?
- 1:35:31Speaker 5: Because they're like, well, we can be anything, but don't
- 1:35:33Speaker 5: you have to have like a core set of principles
- 1:35:35Speaker 5: that like, look, we need to have X, Y and
- 1:35:38Speaker 5: Z on this defense or else nothing's gonna work. You know,
- 1:35:40Speaker 5: we can't get stuck in this position where you know
- 1:35:43Speaker 5: we're a jack of all defenses, but we're really a
- 1:35:45Speaker 5: master of no defenses. You know, there's nothing that we.
- 1:35:47Speaker 3: Can go to.
- 1:35:49Speaker 5: And I've said up before, like I always felt with
- 1:35:50Speaker 5: Bill's defense, even as they got into safeties, playing linebackers
- 1:35:54Speaker 5: and they're playing way more nickel, and you know, it
- 1:35:56Speaker 5: was still we're getting wroung on. We're going to three fourth.
- 1:35:58Speaker 5: That's the defense we install in day one in this
- 1:36:00Speaker 5: you know, everybody we know what we're doing, three four
- 1:36:02Speaker 5: defense will go to that to get right. And I
- 1:36:05Speaker 5: just they don't really have that this year. And that's
- 1:36:07Speaker 5: I just I don't know how you start to rebuild
- 1:36:09Speaker 5: this defense other than you need two dudes.
- 1:36:11Speaker 3: And I think the game has gotten so sophisticated on
- 1:36:14Speaker 3: both sides of the ball that you have to be versatile,
- 1:36:17Speaker 3: whether you're an offense or a defense, and you can't
- 1:36:19Speaker 3: just be one thing because coordinator on defense are too smart.
- 1:36:23Speaker 3: They're gonna pick you. You know, they're to take advantage
- 1:36:26Speaker 3: of that and offensive coordinators. If you're one thing on defense,
- 1:36:29Speaker 3: they're gonna take advantage of that. You have to be
- 1:36:32Speaker 3: able to adapt to who your opponent is. And then
- 1:36:36Speaker 3: within a game.
- 1:36:37Speaker 6: Yeah, we just see a lot of defenses now. I
- 1:36:40Speaker 6: would say that it's kind of become a lot like offense.
- 1:36:44Speaker 6: How we talk about the Shanahan tree, like there's really
- 1:36:47Speaker 6: only a couple of different trees of defense that are
- 1:36:49Speaker 6: being played now. The Fangio tree is massive, like Vic
- 1:36:53Speaker 6: Fangio's defense too high spin the dial with the safeties
- 1:36:57Speaker 6: is like what everybody plays now practically. I mean, that's
- 1:36:59Speaker 6: got to be at least a third of the league
- 1:37:01Speaker 6: that's running the Fangio system defensively. And then the Seattle
- 1:37:04Speaker 6: the new version of the Seattle three, which it takes
- 1:37:07Speaker 6: a little bit of the Fangio stuff, but the core
- 1:37:10Speaker 6: principles of the Seattle three I think I just like
- 1:37:14Speaker 6: encapsulated probably to feel like a book.
- 1:37:16Speaker 3: That has all this stuff in it. Oh, let's.
- 1:37:22Speaker 4: I missed it.
- 1:37:24Speaker 3: But seriously, say, like the Seattle three, like is there
- 1:37:29Speaker 3: some place that like you know, like.
- 1:37:31Speaker 4: You look at like the Colts, like because Gus Bradley
- 1:37:34Speaker 4: was there, so like that's basically how it goes, Like
- 1:37:36Speaker 4: Evan said, Fangio is basically he's like the almost like
- 1:37:41Speaker 4: the McVeigh. Now yeah, McVay Shanny, I know all these
- 1:37:44Speaker 4: guys that were So you can sort of take from
- 1:37:47Speaker 4: it like, well, he probably has those kinds of principles.
- 1:37:50Speaker 4: I mean, I'm simplistic. I just look at it like
- 1:37:54Speaker 4: who are the best defenses in the league, Like who's
- 1:37:58Speaker 4: really good on defense?
- 1:37:59Speaker 3: Yea?
- 1:38:00Speaker 4: And of those who's like who stops good offenses? Like
- 1:38:06Speaker 4: the Broncos have been playing as well defensively as anyone.
- 1:38:09Speaker 4: They get thirty whatever the other night to Jameis Winston. Yeah,
- 1:38:13Speaker 4: now you could argue they also scored fourteen points, so
- 1:38:17Speaker 4: they are a good defense. I do think Denver's a
- 1:38:19Speaker 4: good defense. I don't think they're overrated. Right Kansas City,
- 1:38:22Speaker 4: I think is a good defense. But I watch Aidan
- 1:38:23Speaker 4: O'Connell throw for over three hundred yard the other day. Well, like,
- 1:38:27Speaker 4: because it's hard to play, it's hard.
- 1:38:28Speaker 3: To play defense, and then when you when you then
- 1:38:31Speaker 3: when you get those rare years where you have elite defenses, Oh,
- 1:38:35Speaker 3: it turns out on those teams that were Hall of famers,
- 1:38:38Speaker 3: you know what I mean? Ed Reid and Ray Lewis,
- 1:38:41Speaker 3: and you know Noddy who's not a Hall of Famer
- 1:38:44Speaker 3: but he was great. And the other crazy guy up
- 1:38:46Speaker 3: front that they had Melodinada where you're trying to known,
- 1:38:50Speaker 3: but who was the guy sugs like these are? These
- 1:38:54Speaker 3: are great players, you know. I don't care if they
- 1:38:57Speaker 3: were the Seattle three or that.
- 1:39:00Speaker 4: Doe, you know, but I just don't know, Like if
- 1:39:05Speaker 4: we have the best defense in the league and we
- 1:39:07Speaker 4: don't score enough, I don't know how good that?
- 1:39:10Speaker 3: No, I know, I know, I.
- 1:39:11Speaker 5: Got a little angle that I'm curious even's thought. This
- 1:39:13Speaker 5: just kind of came to me. You know, Mike McDonald
- 1:39:15Speaker 5: was in Baltimore last year and earned so much praise
- 1:39:17Speaker 5: and really being kind of a Belichick game plan type defense,
- 1:39:21Speaker 5: and that defense has fallen off the cliff just like this,
- 1:39:23Speaker 5: what kind of has I wonder if those you know,
- 1:39:25Speaker 5: two things are somehow a little bit related where defense
- 1:39:29Speaker 5: is really reliant on a specific person putting a game
- 1:39:32Speaker 5: plan together, and when you don't have that person anymore,
- 1:39:35Speaker 5: it's it's gonna fall off.
- 1:39:36Speaker 3: A little bit.
- 1:39:36Speaker 6: I think the name of the game now defensively, to
- 1:39:39Speaker 6: like the McDonald point is like how can we scheme
- 1:39:42Speaker 6: pressure without giving up numbers in coverage? Right, So, like
- 1:39:45Speaker 6: all these teams are running these simulated pressures now where
- 1:39:48Speaker 6: it's we're gonna show that we're gonna bring the house,
- 1:39:51Speaker 6: but we're actually gonna drop out of it and we're
- 1:39:53Speaker 6: gonna drop into seven man coverage and we're only going
- 1:39:55Speaker 6: to bring four. But our scheme is going to create
- 1:39:58Speaker 6: free runners at the quarterback. And Bill last year number
- 1:40:01Speaker 6: one in the league in unblocked pressure rate. He was
- 1:40:03Speaker 6: the best at it in the league last year still,
- 1:40:06Speaker 6: and the Ravens were number two with Mike McDonald. So
- 1:40:09Speaker 6: those guys are really good at cooking up pressure, but that.
- 1:40:12Speaker 3: Type of pressure and you know, fooling the quarterback by
- 1:40:15Speaker 3: dropping guys out when it looked Pittsburgh was doing that
- 1:40:19Speaker 3: like twenty years ago.
- 1:40:20Speaker 6: Pittsburgh running fire zones twenty years ago. The difference between
- 1:40:24Speaker 6: what these are now is that is the simulated aspect
- 1:40:27Speaker 6: of it, where like they're showing.
- 1:40:29Speaker 3: No, that's what they would do, and guys would drop
- 1:40:31Speaker 3: out they chose seven. Yeah, zone blitz red dog, they
- 1:40:35Speaker 3: call all this kind of stuff.
- 1:40:36Speaker 6: Yeah, they'd run fire zones, yeah, zone blitzes. But I
- 1:40:39Speaker 6: feel like nowadays you see a lot more of you know,
- 1:40:42Speaker 6: second and third level guys adding into the rush from
- 1:40:45Speaker 6: coverage spots, right, like, not from spots in the front seven. Yeah,
- 1:40:50Speaker 6: because they're dropping a guy off the line of scrimmage
- 1:40:53Speaker 6: who you think is rushing, and they're gonna bring the
- 1:40:55Speaker 6: nickel from the other side of the formation that you're
- 1:40:57Speaker 6: not expecting to blitz, and then that confuses the protections
- 1:41:00Speaker 6: up front. Blitzer, Yeah, he was, Yeah, So you have
- 1:41:06Speaker 6: all these different mixes of matches and uh, those guys,
- 1:41:09Speaker 6: you know, Flores is a master at it. You know,
- 1:41:12Speaker 6: Flora has really started to install these, uh, these six
- 1:41:16Speaker 6: man zone coverages, so like instead of cover zero with
- 1:41:19Speaker 6: man to man, he plays cover zero with zone behind
- 1:41:22Speaker 6: it now, which like changed everything.
- 1:41:24Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:41:24Speaker 6: That was like an in the vative like sort of
- 1:41:26Speaker 6: thing that happened. So you know, all these things are
- 1:41:30Speaker 6: just like always evolving.
- 1:41:33Speaker 3: Uh.
- 1:41:33Speaker 6: And I feel like with the Patriots, like this year,
- 1:41:35Speaker 6: it kind of felt like they tried to run a
- 1:41:37Speaker 6: little bit of everything where they were like, we're gonna
- 1:41:40Speaker 6: do some of the Flores stuff, and we might do
- 1:41:42Speaker 6: some of the Baltimore stuff, and we might do some
- 1:41:44Speaker 6: of the Bill stuff and so then they just became
- 1:41:47Speaker 6: bad at all of it, right, instead of good at
- 1:41:48Speaker 6: one thing, they weren't really great at it.
- 1:41:50Speaker 3: So and I think in our first second year of PFW,
- 1:41:53Speaker 3: we did a story on the origin of the three four.
- 1:41:56Speaker 3: Now I don't know if it's accurate, but who do
- 1:41:58Speaker 3: you think was the known as the father of the
- 1:42:00Speaker 3: three four?
- 1:42:01Speaker 6: So Oklahoma, ok that goes before my time?
- 1:42:05Speaker 4: Was that Bud Wilkinson.
- 1:42:07Speaker 3: Bud Wilkinson that was before me?
- 1:42:09Speaker 4: Because I didn't I wasn't a proud of that store.
- 1:42:10Speaker 3: That's that's the correct answer. I think it. I don't
- 1:42:12Speaker 3: know if he's Oklahoma or Army Oklahoma. Oklahoma. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:42:16Speaker 3: it's still called still called Oki. Like the Bud Wilkerson.
- 1:42:20Speaker 6: I'd say the three four is made a comeback. Fanji
- 1:42:22Speaker 6: is a three four guy.
- 1:42:23Speaker 4: Don't call it a comeback.
- 1:42:24Speaker 6: Bill's always been pretty much a three four guy. That
- 1:42:28Speaker 6: Fangio plays three four a little bit differently than the
- 1:42:30Speaker 6: Patriots do. They don't two gap, they gap and a half,
- 1:42:32Speaker 6: but like it's basically the same thing.
- 1:42:34Speaker 3: How do you gop in a half?
- 1:42:36Speaker 6: So you play a primary gap and you you commit
- 1:42:39Speaker 6: to the primary gap, but not all the way so
- 1:42:42Speaker 6: like you you commit to the primary gap like seventy
- 1:42:44Speaker 6: five percent of the way, and then you have a
- 1:42:46Speaker 6: secondary gap that you're supposed to like fold over, like
- 1:42:49Speaker 6: so when you read the ball.
- 1:42:50Speaker 3: So you're not playing zero technique.
- 1:42:53Speaker 6: No, that's different. No, that's just like where you're lining
- 1:42:56Speaker 6: up on the line of scrim It's just too funny.
- 1:42:58Speaker 3: It's too Yeah, but who's the father of the four
- 1:43:01Speaker 3: to three defense? Who's the father of the four to three? Geez,
- 1:43:05Speaker 3: I don't know, I'll google it. I think that's Tom Landry,
- 1:43:08Speaker 3: you think so? I think, okay, the father of the
- 1:43:13Speaker 3: four to three? What was there before four to three?
- 1:43:16Speaker 3: Everybody just line up? Who cares to go out there
- 1:43:19Speaker 3: and right mill around at the four to six. It's
- 1:43:21Speaker 3: like the NASCAR or like we call it.
- 1:43:24Speaker 6: Yes, Tom Landry is credited, good Paul.
- 1:43:27Speaker 5: Wow, misterio X's and O's over there.
- 1:43:30Speaker 4: Yeah, it's not X's and O's.
- 1:43:32Speaker 6: I feel like the forty it's funny six because for
- 1:43:36Speaker 6: the forty six defense is basically just cover zero, like
- 1:43:39Speaker 6: we just call it the forty six defense.
- 1:43:41Speaker 4: So, you know, and I never knew, and I you know,
- 1:43:44Speaker 4: I learned on this show when someone called in and
- 1:43:47Speaker 4: called me out on it. I always thought the four
- 1:43:49Speaker 4: to six defense was an alignment.
- 1:43:51Speaker 3: Oh and it was number forty six.
- 1:43:53Speaker 4: Yeah, I think it was fensic or playing one of
- 1:43:55Speaker 4: the two. I think they were forty five and forty six.
- 1:43:58Speaker 4: It was whichever one of the safeties was number forty six.
- 1:44:01Speaker 4: That's why Buddy Ryan called it the forty six defense. Yeah,
- 1:44:03Speaker 4: and I didn't know. I never knew that.
- 1:44:05Speaker 5: And so then didn't Joe Gibbs come up with like
- 1:44:07Speaker 5: the full back then, like the I formation I think
- 1:44:09Speaker 5: was them what was like the kryptonite for the forty
- 1:44:12Speaker 5: six defense? I think that was kind of how the
- 1:44:14Speaker 5: evolution went.
- 1:44:15Speaker 6: Okay, So that's like how all, you know, the Fangio
- 1:44:18Speaker 6: defense stuff started getting popularized as an answer to the
- 1:44:21Speaker 6: Shanahan tree. So the Shanahan tree takes over the league,
- 1:44:25Speaker 6: and everybody's like, how the heck?
- 1:44:27Speaker 3: It is kind of fascinating the entomology of all of
- 1:44:31Speaker 3: this stuff, Like.
- 1:44:34Speaker 4: I like the the concepts more than the extras. And
- 1:44:37Speaker 4: O's I like him saying like Fangio was the one
- 1:44:41Speaker 4: that decided, you know, because now everybody sees like you're
- 1:44:45Speaker 4: eliminating big plays, you're basically trying to limit the big plays.
- 1:44:48Speaker 4: You're making teams go the long way with the two
- 1:44:51Speaker 4: high safeties and all that other stuff. But Fangio, like
- 1:44:54Speaker 4: I didn't know that, like the Fangio uh being credited
- 1:44:58Speaker 4: with kind of being the one that stopped the Shanahan.
- 1:45:02Speaker 3: Do you remember how teams would use that cover two
- 1:45:06Speaker 3: and Brady They played Brady and he would just take
- 1:45:08Speaker 3: it apart. Tampa two, Tampa Tampa two and Brady.
- 1:45:13Speaker 4: Brady could have thrown for seven hundred yards on Sunday
- 1:45:15Speaker 4: against the Colts. Oh yeah, that that Look, that's the
- 1:45:18Speaker 4: defense that he Tampa to the tore apart with the three,
- 1:45:22Speaker 4: you know, the Seattle three like he would have he
- 1:45:24Speaker 4: would have killed defense falcons.
- 1:45:26Speaker 6: Yeah, I don't care for Tampa two.
- 1:45:29Speaker 3: I don't think that was Dungee.
- 1:45:30Speaker 4: You know why, like the Tampa two in theory was
- 1:45:34Speaker 4: great in Tampa because you had Fred's point, Hall of
- 1:45:38Speaker 4: Fame players like Derek Brooks dropping twenty five yards and
- 1:45:44Speaker 4: like seamlessly covering these deep shots like how many times
- 1:45:49Speaker 4: do you know this is? Please don't take this as
- 1:45:52Speaker 4: a shot like.
- 1:45:53Speaker 3: Jimmy's and Joe's over.
- 1:45:55Speaker 4: Instead of Derek Brooks it's Johanni Tavai chasing a guy
- 1:45:57Speaker 4: thirty yards downfield. The results aren't the same, right, Like
- 1:46:00Speaker 4: the Tampa two was born out of Warren Sapp and
- 1:46:04Speaker 4: Derek Brooks and you know all these other players, right,
- 1:46:09Speaker 4: you know when they don't have those players, Wow, there's
- 1:46:11Speaker 4: a lot of holes out there, right, Yeah, And Brady
- 1:46:14Speaker 4: just ate that for Lue, I'm not a Tampa two.
- 1:46:16Speaker 3: When when the Patriots were having well, the Patriots have
- 1:46:19Speaker 3: always had trouble against Miami, especially in Miami. But back
- 1:46:22Speaker 3: in the day when it was Jason Taylor and the
- 1:46:25Speaker 3: linebacker Sam Madison, Sam Patrick, what the outside was that?
- 1:46:32Speaker 3: What was it?
- 1:46:32Speaker 4: Brady kryptonite? Brady, No, but I don't know.
- 1:46:36Speaker 3: Was there a name for that Miami defense.
- 1:46:38Speaker 4: I don't know, but that was that was a defense
- 1:46:41Speaker 4: that Brady could not hand.
- 1:46:42Speaker 3: But again, Jason Taylor on the edge, you know, the
- 1:46:46Speaker 3: Zach Thomas in the middle going sidelines to sideline, Madison
- 1:46:50Speaker 3: and Sirtain, it was that field owners absolutely yeah, singing.
- 1:46:55Speaker 5: He tore up Pittsburgh's defense too, And watching one of
- 1:46:58Speaker 5: the Hard Knocks clips from last night, they were talking
- 1:46:59Speaker 5: about going against the Pittsburgh defense and how like We're
- 1:47:01Speaker 5: not going to just line up and run into this.
- 1:47:03Speaker 5: We've got to throw in these guys. And I just
- 1:47:05Speaker 5: remember all the success Brady had against that defense.
- 1:47:07Speaker 4: But that was like a Tampa two kind of scheme too,
- 1:47:10Speaker 4: you know with with Tom onin.
- 1:47:11Speaker 6: Yeah, they were in a lot of fire zone. You
- 1:47:13Speaker 6: don't blitz Tom Brady.
- 1:47:17Speaker 3: Yeah, they should make Jim Croche should make a song
- 1:47:19Speaker 3: about you don't blitz Tom Brady, You don't blitz t.
- 1:47:23Speaker 6: They would run like cover three firees Pittsburgh against the Patriots,
- 1:47:27Speaker 6: So you're not defending the seams and then you're taking
- 1:47:30Speaker 6: guys out of coverage to blitz Tom Brady and you
- 1:47:32Speaker 6: have Gron going up the seam. Like really good defensive
- 1:47:36Speaker 6: strategy Pittsburgh for you.
- 1:47:38Speaker 3: Being Fresno rights in PFW fans will remember the day
- 1:47:41Speaker 3: Kevin was left alone to justice to set the table.
- 1:47:45Speaker 4: What happened there, you have to have that. I'll give
- 1:47:50Speaker 4: you the backstory in a second.
- 1:47:51Speaker 3: Okay, let's just set the table.
- 1:47:58Speaker 4: So we would often go from the locker room or
- 1:48:02Speaker 4: whatever and come down to start the show right, and
- 1:48:08Speaker 4: sometimes we you know, if depending on how quickly we
- 1:48:11Speaker 4: got out, it might be like eleven fifty nine. We
- 1:48:14Speaker 4: get in here, it might be twelve oh one. So
- 1:48:17Speaker 4: this one particular time, Fred started to get really angry
- 1:48:21Speaker 4: with us not being ready to go at exactly twelve o'clock,
- 1:48:24Speaker 4: which he would right. Fred doesn't get very angry very often,
- 1:48:28Speaker 4: but he was right in this case, and there was
- 1:48:31Speaker 4: a time that he had said, I want the show
- 1:48:33Speaker 4: to start at twelve sharp. So Andy and I walk
- 1:48:36Speaker 4: in like twelve oh one, and Kevin decided, I'm better
- 1:48:40Speaker 4: start the show. It's twelve.
- 1:48:43Speaker 3: Let's just set the table.
- 1:48:46Speaker 4: And that's the result.
- 1:48:48Speaker 3: Frankly, I think a Marine might have fared better that day.
- 1:48:51Speaker 3: Also on the past, I actually miss something about Eric.
- 1:48:55Speaker 3: When anyone from in Virginia called Eric would always mumble
- 1:48:58Speaker 3: good for him. Of course he didn't know what he's
- 1:49:01Speaker 3: talking about with what with his virginal charm, but it
- 1:49:06Speaker 3: would be fun for someone to bring uh, to bring
- 1:49:09Speaker 3: that one back. Okay, you know Virginia.
- 1:49:15Speaker 4: Augusta dance in Virginia. Good for him, Good for him.
- 1:49:20Speaker 3: Currently, let's see Eric Claire. Hello everyone, Hello Marine held class.
- 1:49:27Speaker 3: Can I just say, uh, you know, I love the show,
- 1:49:30Speaker 3: but the UNI conversations is fab I'm standing in my
- 1:49:34Speaker 3: kitchen cooking and laughing out loud. I love you guys
- 1:49:38Speaker 3: to people, love the uniforms, them what they want.
- 1:49:42Speaker 4: Fred, you and I are in the vast minority.
- 1:49:45Speaker 3: I'm gonna work on something for next season.
- 1:49:47Speaker 4: You gonna put a mock up?
- 1:49:48Speaker 3: Yeah, Okay, we talked about Travis Hunter earlier.
- 1:49:54Speaker 11: Right.
- 1:49:55Speaker 3: Emailer Jake writes in I could not just disagree with
- 1:49:58Speaker 3: the caller saying that Travis is a mistake. More, even
- 1:50:02Speaker 3: if you never touched cornerback, I think he could be
- 1:50:04Speaker 3: an elite receiver. The dude has magnet hands and is
- 1:50:06Speaker 3: by far the best athlete in the draft. He is
- 1:50:09Speaker 3: fast as hell and can move very smoothly. Love Tech
- 1:50:12Speaker 3: McMillan two, but I don't think he has much over
- 1:50:15Speaker 3: Travis besides size.
- 1:50:16Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm with the emailer on that one. I mean,
- 1:50:18Speaker 6: I watched Travis under his tape this morning, and that
- 1:50:21Speaker 6: guy's special. I mean, he's he moves really well, great feet,
- 1:50:26Speaker 6: like you could see the cornerback feed translate the receiver
- 1:50:28Speaker 6: and translate the corner back and forth.
- 1:50:30Speaker 3: And I know he's in Colorado with Deon Sanders, and
- 1:50:33Speaker 3: you know, so you make that comparison at cornerback but
- 1:50:36Speaker 3: he does have that knack for like seeing the play
- 1:50:39Speaker 3: develop and cutting off that play in like Deon Sanders had.
- 1:50:43Speaker 6: Yes, great, it was amazing sides of the ball. Like,
- 1:50:46Speaker 6: I think that was the thing that imprested me the
- 1:50:48Speaker 6: most was how I receiver, how good he is at
- 1:50:52Speaker 6: filling out zones and stuff like that, Like I didn't
- 1:50:55Speaker 6: think I thought he'd be raw, you know, I didn't
- 1:50:57Speaker 6: think he would have that innate ability to sort of
- 1:50:59Speaker 6: nowhere to sit down and how to find the soft spots.
- 1:51:02Speaker 6: And then he obviously has a great rapport with Shador
- 1:51:05Speaker 6: from playing with him for so long, so the two
- 1:51:07Speaker 6: of them together just kill teams that play zone.
- 1:51:10Speaker 5: What do you think Drake needs though, Like, well, that's
- 1:51:12Speaker 5: that's where my brain's kind of at because I've said before,
- 1:51:14Speaker 5: like I really think I want speedy line. There's something
- 1:51:16Speaker 5: about well receiver in terms of receiver, like you know,
- 1:51:18Speaker 5: what kind of receiver do you think fits invest in?
- 1:51:20Speaker 5: Like I watched a little McMillan too, and they're just
- 1:51:22Speaker 5: like there's a certain appeal to him now with just Side.
- 1:51:25Speaker 5: Isn't a guy that and I know we gotten to
- 1:51:27Speaker 5: kill Harry, you know those kind of like can he run,
- 1:51:30Speaker 5: but still like there's something about his body type, his
- 1:51:33Speaker 5: his radius of catch, like you know, he'd get downfield
- 1:51:36Speaker 5: and you know come up with contested catches from Drake.
- 1:51:38Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 1:51:38Speaker 5: I'm just that's where my brain's kind of going, Okay,
- 1:51:40Speaker 5: what's the best element.
- 1:51:41Speaker 3: Well, obviously you got to have the tools, but I
- 1:51:43Speaker 3: want somebody who's also smart. Yeah, you know who get
- 1:51:48Speaker 3: You know, Brady was talking about it on the Thanksgiving
- 1:51:50Speaker 3: game about how he and Moss because the Moss's football
- 1:51:54Speaker 3: IQ We're on the same page from day one. That's
- 1:51:57Speaker 3: what I want somebody like that.
- 1:51:59Speaker 26: Now.
- 1:51:59Speaker 3: Obviously, if you can have the tools of Moss, now
- 1:52:01Speaker 3: you've got a Hall of Famer. But short of that,
- 1:52:03Speaker 3: just you know, someone can get open and catch the
- 1:52:05Speaker 3: ball obviously, but I want somebody with that football IQ
- 1:52:08Speaker 3: who can get on the same page with Drake Man
- 1:52:11Speaker 3: none of my bad guy. Yeah.
- 1:52:13Speaker 6: It's an interesting like conversation of like just types and
- 1:52:16Speaker 6: stuff because like Teed McMillan is a really good fifty
- 1:52:19Speaker 6: to fifty ball guy and back shoulder guy. But that's
- 1:52:21Speaker 6: not like really my cup of tea. Like I like
- 1:52:23Speaker 6: this either, Like that that's the thing, Like I see
- 1:52:27Speaker 6: that element with him, but he doesn't really have great
- 1:52:29Speaker 6: top end speed, so he's not running by anybody. Yeah,
- 1:52:32Speaker 6: And I just worry about in this offense right now
- 1:52:34Speaker 6: if you add another guy who's not really fast, and
- 1:52:38Speaker 6: is it really dynamic.
- 1:52:39Speaker 3: But here's the thing in the NFL, and you see
- 1:52:41Speaker 3: it all the time, like you don't need to be
- 1:52:43Speaker 3: really fast to get open quickly, Like if you have
- 1:52:47Speaker 3: that good move, you know, and if you play leverage,
- 1:52:50Speaker 3: you can get open NFL open, Yeah, and then it's
- 1:52:53Speaker 3: up to the quarterback to anticipate that and get the
- 1:52:56Speaker 3: ball on time, you know. So you don't have to
- 1:52:59Speaker 3: have like burner speed to get open in the NFL
- 1:53:02Speaker 3: on medium roots, I'm not you know, now long roots, Okay,
- 1:53:06Speaker 3: now you need you need for four or less.
- 1:53:08Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm talking about the third level right, like the
- 1:53:10Speaker 6: deep threat element, because right now I just feel like
- 1:53:13Speaker 6: that's you know, they don't throw the ball deep and
- 1:53:15Speaker 6: they have this quarterback that I can throw the ball
- 1:53:17Speaker 6: sixty five yards in the air, and they just don't
- 1:53:19Speaker 6: throw deep because there's nobody on the team to throw
- 1:53:20Speaker 6: it deep, right, And so I just worry about adding
- 1:53:23Speaker 6: more slow receivers.
- 1:53:25Speaker 3: No, I hear you.
- 1:53:26Speaker 5: You know to me too, I'm totally on the same
- 1:53:27Speaker 5: page with you. But you know, I just I think
- 1:53:29Speaker 5: about it. I consider it because it's I mean, now
- 1:53:31Speaker 5: that you have Drake, you just you feel like more
- 1:53:32Speaker 5: options are open and he'll make guys that maybe you
- 1:53:35Speaker 5: have concerns about maybe look a little bit better. But
- 1:53:37Speaker 5: I speed, That's what I think they need. They need
- 1:53:40Speaker 5: speed on this team and that's why Hunters he had.
- 1:53:42Speaker 3: Speed in but he wasn't a good receiver. So I'm serious,
- 1:53:45Speaker 3: you know, so like it's not just speed. Yeah, Aaron's
- 1:53:49Speaker 3: in Toronto. What's up? Aaron?
- 1:53:51Speaker 11: Hey?
- 1:53:52Speaker 27: Everyone, I hope you're enjoying the start of the month.
- 1:53:54Speaker 27: I want to give a quick shout out to Evan
- 1:53:57Speaker 27: for your after further review audio breakdown. Look forward to
- 1:54:00Speaker 27: them every week. They continue to give me a better
- 1:54:03Speaker 27: understanding of QB mechanics and how offense really works.
- 1:54:07Speaker 3: Thank you appreciate my question though.
- 1:54:09Speaker 27: Yeah, for sure. My question is with everyone wanting to
- 1:54:12Speaker 27: see some designed QB runs to start getting integrated into
- 1:54:15Speaker 27: the offense, what situations do you want to see them
- 1:54:19Speaker 27: called in and what kind of runs in particular do
- 1:54:21Speaker 27: you want to see called?
- 1:54:22Speaker 3: Thanks a lot, Thanks I think they're coming. I mean
- 1:54:26Speaker 3: a VPS kind of alluded that it's not off the table. Yeah.
- 1:54:29Speaker 4: I think Evan said he thought there were a few
- 1:54:32Speaker 4: that he ended.
- 1:54:33Speaker 3: Up going, yeah, yeah, you hand it off.
- 1:54:38Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:54:38Speaker 6: I mean the shovel passes is a design run. Like
- 1:54:41Speaker 6: it's an option play, right, you know, he has options
- 1:54:44Speaker 6: on that play to Henry.
- 1:54:46Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:54:46Speaker 6: Yeah. So I think we're getting there. But I've been
- 1:54:49Speaker 6: thinking about it a little bit. And obviously it would
- 1:54:51Speaker 6: help in the red zone, it would help short yardage,
- 1:54:53Speaker 6: goal line, things like that, and maybe they do incorporate that.
- 1:54:57Speaker 6: I do wonder if there's a little bit of an
- 1:54:58Speaker 6: element of like for three and ten and like to
- 1:55:01Speaker 6: like you have keep sending them out there to run
- 1:55:04Speaker 6: the ball ten times a game and get hit a bunch, like,
- 1:55:06Speaker 6: you know, maybe down the line when they're competitive and
- 1:55:09Speaker 6: they're in real high leverage games but.
- 1:55:11Speaker 3: It really counts we need it.
- 1:55:13Speaker 6: Yeah, then maybe those things start to come out a
- 1:55:15Speaker 6: little bit more. Like obviously the Bills run Josh Allen,
- 1:55:18Speaker 6: but like they're doing it so they can get the
- 1:55:19Speaker 6: number one seed in the AFC. You know, the Patriots
- 1:55:22Speaker 6: aren't really in that category yet, So I understand sides
- 1:55:25Speaker 6: of it.
- 1:55:26Speaker 3: Uh, one more call on the TPX outline. Todd's in
- 1:55:30Speaker 3: North Carolina, Paul's favorite caller, what's up Todd? Todd? Todd's done?
- 1:55:39Speaker 4: Fred hurt his feelings. That was Todd's best call ever.
- 1:55:42Speaker 4: Now I heard his feeling. Oh no, why did you
- 1:55:47Speaker 4: say that was mean? Do you want to be mean
- 1:55:50Speaker 4: to the callers? You just do?
- 1:55:51Speaker 3: I said he's your favorite caller.
- 1:55:53Speaker 4: You were mean, you were mocking. You were being mocking
- 1:55:55Speaker 4: with the callers. I like all of our callers, even
- 1:55:58Speaker 4: the ones that disagree with me. Like that email from earlier.
- 1:56:01Speaker 4: I liked that email, even though I didn't agree with it.
- 1:56:05Speaker 3: It's a little combative, Yeah, a little combative, Antonio writes
- 1:56:08Speaker 3: in one more email at podcasts at Patriots dot com.
- 1:56:12Speaker 3: I hear a lot of people saying our offense has
- 1:56:14Speaker 3: been stronger than our defense this year, but the NFL
- 1:56:17Speaker 3: game has changed and winning low scoring games is becoming
- 1:56:20Speaker 3: a thing of the past. He's playing on your side
- 1:56:22Speaker 3: of the street ball. I say, we have the right
- 1:56:24Speaker 3: quarterback for the future. So I hope we take the
- 1:56:27Speaker 3: same approach as last offseason and draft a number one
- 1:56:30Speaker 3: wide receiver, sign another free agent wide receiver like t
- 1:56:33Speaker 3: Higgins and get that O line built up. So he's
- 1:56:38Speaker 3: like offense.
- 1:56:40Speaker 4: No, I don't necessarily want to go all offense, but
- 1:56:42Speaker 4: I think it's more important to build the offense. That's all.
- 1:56:45Speaker 3: I think.
- 1:56:46Speaker 6: It's just they need more and the offense in the
- 1:56:48Speaker 6: draft is Uh, it's tough this year because the class
- 1:56:52Speaker 6: isn't great at the top of the draft offensively, but
- 1:56:54Speaker 6: typically I would say that you can get defense in
- 1:56:56Speaker 6: free agency and you get offense in the draft because defensively,
- 1:57:00Speaker 6: guys do get available, come available.
- 1:57:02Speaker 4: And Mike were looking at the corners, we think we
- 1:57:04Speaker 4: can get one.
- 1:57:04Speaker 6: Yeah, Like there's some corners like every I mean, like
- 1:57:06Speaker 6: I got like Daniel Hunter Moves last year as a
- 1:57:09Speaker 6: free agent pass rusher like that. That's if that is
- 1:57:12Speaker 6: the receiver equivalent. That is not a guy that hits
- 1:57:15Speaker 6: free agency right like a prime pass rusher, you know
- 1:57:19Speaker 6: that to have a great year for Houston. So I
- 1:57:20Speaker 6: do think you can have You can get defense in
- 1:57:23Speaker 6: free agency. Patriots did a couple of years ago. I
- 1:57:25Speaker 6: mean twenty one. You get Jude On you know, you
- 1:57:27Speaker 6: get guys in here that can play defense.
- 1:57:29Speaker 3: So all right, one more email John and Utah says,
- 1:57:33Speaker 3: I too, am a former sports radio producer. Two compliments
- 1:57:37Speaker 3: I have are that Matt is a really good sound editor,
- 1:57:40Speaker 3: especially with daily highlights at the start of the show.
- 1:57:42Speaker 3: And he has an appropriate amount of wit with audio drops,
- 1:57:46Speaker 3: but isn't overbearing like many are. You have a great show.
- 1:57:49Speaker 3: It's the only thing I listen to or watch that's
- 1:57:51Speaker 3: good enough that I consume one hundred of it. I
- 1:57:55Speaker 3: don't have anything else to add except it's way too
- 1:57:57Speaker 3: soon for people to have final judgment on drowd Maio's performance,
- 1:58:00Speaker 3: good or bad. That's kind of how I feel. But
- 1:58:03Speaker 3: let's give him another year at least. All right, that's
- 1:58:07Speaker 3: going to be it for this edition of Patriots Unfiltered
- 1:58:11Speaker 3: for the crew. We'll be back tomorrow. When is Catch
- 1:58:15Speaker 3: twenty two this season? Tomorrow, normal time, four o'clock, right after.
- 1:58:19Speaker 6: Two to four, two to four.
- 1:58:21Speaker 4: Lookook next.
- 1:58:22Speaker 3: Yeah, we have the playbook today, John Rook, and the
- 1:58:25Speaker 3: playbook is standing by to take you deep into the
- 1:58:28Speaker 3: pages of the playbook.
- 1:58:30Speaker 25: Uh.
- 1:58:30Speaker 3: But we'll be back tomorrow at noon.
