Transcript
- 0:00Hello there, it's time for most things Kenobi.
- 0:05I prefer all things Kenobi, but I suppose that's not the Jedi,
- 0:08way long as it's not all things Anakin.
- 0:23Hi everyone, welcome to another episode of most things Kenobi.
- 0:26A podcast about Obi-Wan Kenobi in all things Star Wars.
- 0:29I'm your host Leanne and I'm your host Lauren.
- 0:34It's been a while. Yeah.
- 0:36Whole week. Hello.
- 0:39How are you? It's nice to see you.
- 0:41It's nice to see you. Yes, we do.
- 0:43Look at each other when we record makes it real, even
- 0:48though we're not in the same room mostly you.
- 0:51You were traveling now I'm traveling.
- 0:53Yeah we're the traveling space twins.
- 0:55It's it's been a week. A lot went on this week.
- 1:01Yeah, it's Saturday, got it and even know it's been a very, very
- 1:05busy, couple of weeks. Honestly, the build-up to my
- 1:08trip, I was losing my mind and that was while you were gone.
- 1:13Yeah. And then I got back from mine
- 1:15and, and or happened, which that's what this week's episode
- 1:17is about. We're going to give you our full
- 1:21rundown opinion, thoughts, whatever, on the first three
- 1:25episodes of and or but before that, you mentioned today's
- 1:29Saturday. And I just want to say in Star
- 1:32Wars news it was announced today.
- 1:35That James Earl Jones has retired from the voice of Darth
- 1:39Vader. Yeah.
- 1:41That is just, it's an end of an era.
- 1:43I'm so sad. He is he no one else could do
- 1:50it. Like there was someone else who
- 1:52did it on the radio dramas and it just was not the same.
- 1:56The actor is very good and it was actually he's a very
- 1:58prestigious actor who did it, but Just not the same.
- 2:02He is the voice. And so just hats off all the
- 2:06respect in the fucking world to James, Earl Jones.
- 2:08You are the voice of my favorite character.
- 2:12So well, one half of my favorite character generations of people
- 2:18know him. Yeah, I know, you cannot know
- 2:21anything else about Star Wars but you know, the voice of Darth
- 2:25Vader and you know, James, Earl Jones.
- 2:28So anyway, before we get into and or I thought I'd tip my hat
- 2:32to the Irreplaceable and wonderful.
- 2:37James, Earl Jones. Enjoy your retirement.
- 2:41Yeah, and it has earned its oh my gosh, you've been forced
- 2:44crushing people for decades a rest.
- 2:48Oh, is it though? Sorry.
- 2:52Weird already. Okay well also I'm in a hotel
- 2:58room so there is a lot of noise in here.
- 3:00I apologize for any bad audio on this week's episode, but it
- 3:04cannot be helped. I've done what I can.
- 3:06Oh, yes, I hate. I've come from a hotel.
- 3:08You've come from hotels. We're good.
- 3:11We got this. Yeah.
- 3:14So, and or Yes. Overall it was good.
- 3:19I really liked episode 3. Yeah, I know I know we have
- 3:23opposite opinions or like if we had opposite experiences.
- 3:27So this will be an interesting episode.
- 3:29I mean, I think so I brought notes because I will preface
- 3:32this by saying, I watched the first two episodes twice.
- 3:37Once the original time I watched all three episodes on my couch
- 3:41with my television which I have a sound bar and a subwoofer And
- 3:47I, my biggest problem, like, I mentioned to you was I couldn't
- 3:50understand any of the characters.
- 3:52I had no idea what was going on in the first two episodes.
- 3:54Not, and then, like something magically changed in the
- 3:57episodes in the third episode. But then, when I re-watch them,
- 4:01I watched them with the earbuds on with noise, canceling effects
- 4:05on it. And I still thought everyone's
- 4:07voice was muffled, so it kind of ruined the first two episodes.
- 4:10I did not like them. Yeah, that's that, they'll say
- 4:14that people will tolerate A crabby video for a while, but
- 4:19crappy audio, they will not. So if you can't hear what's
- 4:22going on, you'll be very frustrated.
- 4:25You did mention a good point though that they have very
- 4:28strong accents. And perhaps, I was struggling
- 4:32with the accents, which I'll cop to.
- 4:33I don't know if they had very thick accents, a lot of the the
- 4:37stairs. There's a lot of like heavy
- 4:39Scottish and like Northern English accents and those are
- 4:44hard to understand on a good day sometimes.
- 4:46So, especially if you're not used to listening to it all the
- 4:50time, I'm sure if you were like in Scotland, your ear would grow
- 4:53used to it, you know. But it's what do you think?
- 4:57Overall, I didn't have that problem.
- 4:58I understood everything that everyone was saying and I lucky,
- 5:05I'm sorry, it's okay. It blew me away.
- 5:10I don't know them. I am floored it.
- 5:15I honestly think this is Dare, I say this that are Star Wars
- 5:19podcast like too good for Star Wars.
- 5:22Like it's a whole different. Like Everything about it is
- 5:27different. It is kind of script is
- 5:29different. The cinematography is different,
- 5:31it's beautiful. It is, first of all, it shows on
- 5:37location filming looks so much better.
- 5:40Yeah, the volume as cool as the volume is it just can't
- 5:44replicate real life and it shows like in the dynamic editing and
- 5:51the camera movement, they are completely strapped.
- 5:57By using the Valerie volume. It makes it harder for them to
- 6:00do cinematography. Hmm.
- 6:03So, I was like eating that shit up.
- 6:09It was so good. Yeah, I figured you'd have a
- 6:11more technical opinion. I thought episode 3 was just
- 6:19downright, beautiful. So the symbolism I have it
- 6:21written down here. The symbolism and episode 3,
- 6:25with the lighting, and the focus on the characters.
- 6:28And just, you know, the overall feel especially at the end, the
- 6:33story they were telling was Hmm, gorgeous.
- 6:36It was it was top-notch and it sets the stage for everything
- 6:41that's going to follow, which I'm excited to see.
- 6:43I hope I can understand at least 35% of the next episode.
- 6:49It really ruined it for me because when you can't hear I
- 6:54tuned out completely. I was playing on my phone.
- 6:56I was like what the fuck's going on like why do I care like it?
- 6:59That's the attitude I had in the first episode I was like this is
- 7:01not a good sign, this is not a good sign but there were many
- 7:08good signs. I'm not going to shit on it just
- 7:11because I something's wrong with my fucking ears, but if it's a
- 7:14problem that continues, It's going to ruin it for me.
- 7:19Yeah, for sure understandably. So if I have to watch it with
- 7:23subtitles and who wants to do that?
- 7:26Not me. But I will Sacrifice watching it
- 7:31on my giant TV. To put ear buds in if it helps.
- 7:36So maybe I'll watch it first with noise.
- 7:39Cancellation earbuds. And then tell them, I don't
- 7:43know. I don't know.
- 7:44We'll see. And I just watched it on my tiny
- 7:47little laptop so I didn't have headphones and I was going to
- 7:50put it on, but I didn't so yeah, I don't know.
- 7:54I don't know if it's like it was going to say, maybe it's the
- 7:57sound mix but it's not. If it was the same experience on
- 8:00your earbuds as it was on your Soundbar.
- 8:02Yeah, because I felt like a A lot of the felt like a lot of
- 8:06the music in the background and like the humming and thus, like
- 8:12the background noise was too loud or so, I don't know.
- 8:17I'm not going to harp on this list.
- 8:20It's just that was my experience and the first two I texted you,
- 8:23I was like I don't know where this is going and then like
- 8:26third episode was exactly what I had expected from the show.
- 8:30Yeah, so maybe it just was slow. To me, but we said going into
- 8:37this, they have a lot of room story building, they have a lot
- 8:42of free reign on how they handle these characters.
- 8:45They're all new for the most part.
- 8:49Yeah, there's there's a lot of good.
- 8:51What were some of your favorite moments?
- 8:55If you cut my God, honestly, just right from the beginning.
- 9:00What let's talk about the fucking logo.
- 9:02I was blown away by when they leave the old, the horned Moon
- 9:07slowly starts to appear, like the symbol and the colors and
- 9:13the name and the music. I thought that was brilliant.
- 9:15I thought that was goes like, okay, alright right out of the
- 9:18gate and then I couldn't hear anything.
- 9:20So I really loved it. I loved that.
- 9:24I think. I've heard a few people say they
- 9:27thought, the first two episodes were slow and I get it but also
- 9:31I think it's funny that people think this is slow and not the
- 9:34Mandalorian. Oh no, the Mandalorian is slow,
- 9:38it's so slow and those are you know, creators that I love and
- 9:42they're brilliant and I know their buildings is something.
- 9:44But the thing that I was When I first watched the very opening
- 9:51scene, right of and or I was like, okay, I get it
- 9:54immediately. I was like Blade Runner, mmm,
- 9:57everything is an homage to Blade Runner.
- 9:59Even the woman who comes out and speaks.
- 10:01Yeah, Cassie and like the music, the lighting, everything and I
- 10:07love it. It's implying that dystopia,
- 10:09right? And but then I was like, okay,
- 10:12so that's a really cool introduction after I finished
- 10:16it. Like the next day I was thinking
- 10:18about it. I was like That you'll hit the
- 10:20ground running like no other show in Star Wars has because
- 10:24that scene. That scene is tying to his past
- 10:30and it's a fulcrum point, the changes his future.
- 10:33How interesting you say fulcrum? Well that was a very that will
- 10:40come into play at some point. I'm sure.
- 10:43Yeah. So he he's there looking for his
- 10:46sister Which is tied to all the flashbacks that we see.
- 10:52Hmm. So they're using this point to
- 10:54go back to that and move forward.
- 10:57But in that moment, he makes a terrible mistake and kills two
- 11:01people. He doesn't really mean to kill
- 11:04we as then I love that. Killing seen the fight, how they
- 11:08found my gosh on his face and they came up from behind and
- 11:12then there was a struggle, there was no music.
- 11:14Yeah. And there was a struggle.
- 11:16First of all, how I'm so I constantly want to figure out
- 11:21how they make laser shots, look so damn real.
- 11:24When they don't exist. Like they were bouncing off the
- 11:27walls, you know, because he was redirecting the arm and all this
- 11:30stuff and I was like, damn, that looks really good.
- 11:32If the lighting was amazing and you could see the pain on Cassie
- 11:37and space like he didn't want to do this.
- 11:39Like, don't come any closer. Yeah.
- 11:41You know, and then yeah, it happened.
- 11:43But I really I really liked that scene.
- 11:46I did too and I loved how when he Why's he accidentally killed
- 11:50that guy. The look on his face was just
- 11:52like, oh, what have I done? But now he's in it and he can't
- 11:56turn back and he does what he has to do.
- 12:00But if it's like a point of no return, right?
- 12:03For the character one mistake, you can never change your life
- 12:07again back to like what it was very much like what happened
- 12:10with Ahsoka, which room Jedi, Who Knew Too Much.
- 12:14Once we get to that point, there's no going back to what
- 12:16had been previous. And so like Like that's the
- 12:20moment that forces him to reach out to luthan.
- 12:25Is that his name? I think Lutheran rail something
- 12:27like that, with the buyer. Yeah.
- 12:30And yeah. Which puts him on a completely
- 12:32new trajectory. So I was just like, That scene
- 12:38creates a through-line thread from his childhood all the way
- 12:43to the end of Rogue one. In one scene, and I was like,
- 12:48fucking brilliant. We have these writers been all
- 12:51my life. No II.
- 12:52Totally agree. It's the story and the
- 12:56characters that we were promised and was delivered.
- 13:02Right off the bat. Yeah, the blue suits the bad
- 13:07guys. Yeah, I fucking hate them.
- 13:11I hate them already, which is a testament to their character
- 13:16acting and the build-up of who they're supposed to be.
- 13:21And I hate Cyril, is his name, the main?
- 13:25Like the try too hard? Everybody is describing him as
- 13:28the manager that everybody hates.
- 13:30Yes. He's the guy who wants to rise
- 13:34and is a fucking flop. And tries too hard.
- 13:39I hate him but don't hate the actor.
- 13:42Hate the character right. Right, right.
- 13:45Anyone who knows like Cersei or Joffrey from Game of Thrones,
- 13:49never hate the actor and actress hate the character, but they're
- 13:51acting is perfection because they make you hate the character
- 13:54because doing it so. Well, the amount of face acting
- 13:58that's going on is tremendous. I love it.
- 14:03I just really hate them, I hate them already, and I didn't think
- 14:07I would hate anyone more than the Empire, but I might hate
- 14:09them just as much because like the Empire is giving them the
- 14:15room to kind of like do their dirty work for them.
- 14:18Yeah, and I think it's interesting because there was
- 14:22that scene where cereal goes in and talks to his chief or
- 14:25whatever. Yeah.
- 14:26The older guy who tells them like, don't make a big deal out
- 14:29of this but just going but under the wrecked And he says it's
- 14:33going to reflect badly on our employers.
- 14:37And so I have this idea that he's gonna ignore his boss and
- 14:41do all this crazy shit. And at the end, his boss is
- 14:45going to still be right. And he liked everything.
- 14:48He'll have done and sacrificed and struggled so hard for like
- 14:52his employers will be like why did you humiliate us?
- 14:56Yeah, you know look at all the people that were killed.
- 15:01Yeah, all the negative attention you have brought to this
- 15:05situation that should have been kept quiet because everything
- 15:08that guy was saying about how we had a brothel.
- 15:11We're not supposed to have officers there who shouldn't
- 15:14have been able to afford it. But yeah, I just thought who
- 15:18writes his seed like this in Star Wars.
- 15:19It's so good. It's real.
- 15:22It is, it's the kind of shit that companies worry about they
- 15:26would rather lose to other people.
- 15:28Then have all of the shit come to light and make them look bad.
- 15:31Just go ahead, leave it alone will make up a convenient,
- 15:35excuse the end, and the fucker didn't even do that.
- 15:38I mean, it's great for his character.
- 15:39But goddamn, I just Oh, I was so Furious.
- 15:45You know, the parts I could hear, I'm just going to keep
- 15:47saying that because a lot of the times he was trying to tell
- 15:51those people at the computers to do stuff and I was like, what
- 15:54did he just tell them? I can't I'm struggling but the
- 16:00other person. Oh, go ahead.
- 16:02No! No, you go ahead.
- 16:04All right, the other person I hated was the boyfriend or the
- 16:07non boyfriend. Boyfriend of the girl Tim heart.
- 16:11Yeah, Carla. It was his last Tim Carlo.
- 16:14Is that his Lucky? I Am Em.
- 16:16Tim Star Wars. Tim Star Wars.
- 16:18Yeah. Really really was not sad.
- 16:23He got killed fucking traitor. Hey paid a price for, I mean, he
- 16:30didn't really understand what he was doing.
- 16:32I think I think he did, I think he was a selfish prick and he's
- 16:36like, I need to get rid of and order to get her because he
- 16:38can't do it with his anything else.
- 16:40His under his unbelievable charm which he didn't have like you
- 16:45couldn't do it on his own so he had to get rid of the common
- 16:47denominator it. Well I yeah.
- 16:50I mean in terms Like that he didn't realize it was going to
- 16:52have a ripple effect. It was a gonna just beat Cassie
- 16:55and like something like that is going to turn into all the
- 16:58people who are connected to him which it did like his mother and
- 17:04mother adoptive mother whatever you want to call it.
- 17:06And I loved I loved all of that. Oh my God, Fiona Shaw is such a
- 17:11good actress. She I love phenomenal.
- 17:13My god. Oh good.
- 17:15Oh my God, and to be like the younger version in the
- 17:18flashbacks and then the current version where she's kind of like
- 17:20frail. Dale.
- 17:23Yeah. So it's the same Droid which I
- 17:24thought I love the new Droid. What?
- 17:26Emo what's-his-name? Be too emo.
- 17:30The. Yes?
- 17:31Yes, it's. That's his fucking name.
- 17:34Emo from the start. Be too emo.
- 17:37It's so great. I love it.
- 17:39He oh my God. I loved that first scene where
- 17:42he comes up and Cassie and his talking to him.
- 17:44And it, I loved that tenders tenderness in that scene because
- 17:49Cassie ins, like hold on a second and like pulls.
- 17:51Yeah. I know a little thing, that's
- 17:53bothering the Droid and he's like, take your time going home,
- 17:56like just take your time, don't have to worry about it.
- 17:58So it's I got sad it almost ruined it for me because you
- 18:02know how sensitive I am when the blue suits, there were like
- 18:08threatening the Droid and he put his head.
- 18:10Like he lowered his eye his head like he would I didn't like that
- 18:14at all. I don't like anything that
- 18:15implies like animal abuse or Droid abuse.
- 18:21You know? Yeah, so I was like, if this
- 18:24continues I'm turning it off. I'm turning my back on the show
- 18:26but luckily that it was just a flash of a moment.
- 18:29They didn't go any further. I know my friend Derek is out
- 18:32there shaking his head going girl like because he knows I
- 18:35can't watch like anything over 10 seconds of tenders shit like
- 18:40that, that threatens anyway. Yeah.
- 18:44But I already am in love with him and he was a shiny new cell
- 18:48phone. That was it a republic ship
- 18:50that? Did I understand that correctly?
- 18:53I'm not sure if it was Republic or Empire but they were wearing
- 18:58the scientists. Yes, that you can Rogue one and
- 19:01there were all green. Like they'd been exposed to some
- 19:04horrible chemical accident or some?
- 19:07Yeah. Yes, it was all.
- 19:10I don't, I don't know. I don't know.
- 19:14It's, you can tell they know where they're going with this
- 19:18story. They do, I don't, but they do.
- 19:20I know. And they have all these
- 19:22different threads that if they don't tie them together, that,
- 19:26that would be a sign of bad writing for sure.
- 19:30But I suspect that they're going to tie all these pieces
- 19:34together, somehow yes, and it will be wonderful.
- 19:37I think they know what they're doing.
- 19:39I mean. Many, many of the scenes, the
- 19:42shots, the lighting, it was all very deliberate.
- 19:45And yeah, yes, even the very there, is that moment in the
- 19:50first scene, where he's at the bar, the brothel looking for a
- 19:54sister Cassie and is standing against the background.
- 19:58The doorway. That's all these blue ringing.
- 20:00Yes. And then the art for the
- 20:03officers, the blue suits, whatever are standing against a
- 20:06similar background. That's all red.
- 20:09And Cassie ins costume is actually read, but looks blue in
- 20:13the light and their costumes are blue and looks read in the light
- 20:16there. Like mirroring opposites, I just
- 20:19was like the detail in that one decision, it makes me so happy.
- 20:24I didn't catch that, but that I will, I will go back and look,
- 20:28is that that you have the trained eye.
- 20:31I'm just the Casual like I look for Easter eggs, I look for
- 20:37think, like they mention a half for the first time ever, in live
- 20:41action also. They said shit they did and they
- 20:45had a kissing scene and I was pissed because I was like, okay,
- 20:49hear me out. I was like, we finally get
- 20:51something sexual and Star Wars, and it's this with these two and
- 20:56it's not Kenobi. Take his clothes off, like we
- 20:59couldn't have gotten Kenobi with this.
- 21:00Like I'm just, I'm biased. Routes through.
- 21:05But they didn't go too far with it.
- 21:06So it was like, okay they they pulled back.
- 21:09So if they want to show something like that with Cassie
- 21:12and I'd be okay with that. Absolutely 100%.
- 21:17Well, now we, there's a possibility in some of those
- 21:20flashbacks, I guess. But yeah, oh yeah, yeah, I know,
- 21:24I had the same. Thought I was like, is this a
- 21:25sex scene in Star Wars? What?
- 21:29I was like, okay, this, the only other shit we've ever gotten is
- 21:32like Padme and Anakin like me. Making out or whatever kissing
- 21:36whatever padmé in her Boudoir dress.
- 21:40I love the Boudoir dress, it's so much realistic, you can't
- 21:45sleep and shit like that anyway. Yeah, maybe Padma can she has
- 21:49her hair done at all times? She is the woman.
- 21:51I will never be. But yeah, it was.
- 21:55I was like, okay, how far is this gonna go?
- 21:57And why is it being wasted on these two characters?
- 21:59You know, nothing about I wanted to be, get out, I know.
- 22:04Yeah, yeah, I don't know it's just such an interesting
- 22:09intricate connection like even the small details of like his
- 22:13friend who I didn't really I only watched it once so I didn't
- 22:16catch everybody's name. Me neither, I tried to write
- 22:18them down but I didn't catch any of them at the friends, I like
- 22:21them all. Yeah.
- 22:22The the guy who is like a worker, you know, it's meets him
- 22:27and they create this kind of story.
- 22:30Take Plan. Yeah.
- 22:31Like what happened between them? I love when they showed the
- 22:34wall. Gloves gloves, let's talk about
- 22:36that. I I come from Northwestern
- 22:41Pennsylvania. So it's a very big Railroad
- 22:47train, Centric area, coal, mining, and I got such a strong
- 22:52feel of minors. Railroad workers, yep, total
- 22:59blue-collar. I have all the respect in the
- 23:01world from because I came from a family.
- 23:04Of blue-collar hard workers and so I think it will connect with
- 23:08a lot of people that they found they started the base with the
- 23:12regular people of the Galaxy. We're not talking about Jedi,
- 23:15we're not talking about a or Darth anyone we're talking about
- 23:21the common people in the Galaxy where the Rebellion actually
- 23:24fucking begins. And I did love how they show.
- 23:29They took time to show that and casting has these A reporter's
- 23:35with all these individuals and it seems like they go back and
- 23:39he had to leave them all. Yeah.
- 23:42Which you see them in the third episode, as he's going away,
- 23:45they all kind of look like everyone's losing a piece, like
- 23:50his friends are starting to realize like oh these blue suits
- 23:54are here for him. And this trouble was yeah.
- 24:00Also, so he's not from Fest. No, he's not.
- 24:03We've been deceived. I know.
- 24:06So surprised Canary. Is that what it was called?
- 24:09Could Canary Canary Canary I. It made me wonder if it was like
- 24:13another mining reference like Canary in the coal, mine.
- 24:16Oh, I didn't even put it together.
- 24:19I wondered if it was like a deliberate thing, but oh shit.
- 24:25Dude, those kids like it's you tribal kids, it's like Lynch
- 24:31kids. What the fuck is that book
- 24:32called Lord of the Flies? Yes, they were sitting there was
- 24:36some sort of terrible accident that killed all the parents, all
- 24:39the everyone's dead. It's like all the adults are
- 24:41dead. Are these like the kids that
- 24:43just got left and they kind of like raised each other like grew
- 24:47up together. Well, I mean, they were in ranks
- 24:51and they had large clothing on that looked like, White suits to
- 24:55me. Yes, yes, I thought the same
- 24:58thing, like, for adults that they were, like wrapping around
- 25:01and there are pipes their posts actually pipes.
- 25:05You, if you look at them closely, they're like pieces
- 25:08that were like, like a nut and bolt like, yes, threaded
- 25:13together. Yeah, yeah.
- 25:15I was like, ingenious again, the the thought of the detail, which
- 25:20they may never explained to us in.
- 25:22Right. You know, obvious terms And I'm
- 25:26the giant mine. I do wonder if that is what
- 25:29killed them? That's why.
- 25:31Maybe a Cassius character lingered there with some anger.
- 25:35Yeah. Oh man.
- 25:36That the Mind killed that because like none of the kids
- 25:39would be working in the mine. So that would make sense that
- 25:42the parents or the older would be in the mine working, while
- 25:46the kids stayed back in the village and then something
- 25:48happened at the mine. I don't know.
- 25:49Yeah. Or maybe they were just taken
- 25:52from their children, and the kids that Dead but really
- 25:55they're miners would be that was a great shot.
- 26:00Yeah. Yeah.
- 26:02All of that was so well done. Where I don't really remember
- 26:07where episode 3 starts? Well, there is one thing that
- 26:12starts every day. On that place.
- 26:16And that's the bellringer. The dude who lives his Hammers
- 26:21and has like a religious moment and then like, proceeds to bang
- 26:25the metal, which I fucking loved.
- 26:28I do too. He took his job, seriously.
- 26:31He thought that was everything, and I love that they added that
- 26:35in was very poetic. That's a guy who kissed and
- 26:39like, And So, It Begins, and then bang, bang, bang, bang.
- 26:43And it was just, it was Wonderful.
- 26:45I love. That was like I like that.
- 26:46Dude, that was, I love that DJ and I love that they showed it
- 26:50multiple times. Like it was just one time, which
- 26:52again is very much a call to like mining Community where they
- 26:55would blow the steam whistle. Yeah.
- 26:57And be the changing of the shifts going through because I'm
- 27:00like my family is also from West Virginia.
- 27:02So we have that all in are not all of my family but half of it
- 27:06so like yeah that's definitely in our heritage to its it is
- 27:11it's a really cool and, you know, the the The screenwriter.
- 27:17There's mining in the UK as well.
- 27:19They have a lot of mines in like whale sure.
- 27:21Yeah and such so it's when you come from a mining background,
- 27:27it's very much embedded in your You're like personal DNA.
- 27:33Yeah, yeah. Cuz mining involves a lot of
- 27:37tragedy. It does.
- 27:38It's a lot of hard work. It's dirty work.
- 27:41It will poison you after a long time of doing the same work.
- 27:46Yeah. But also, what your mining is
- 27:48kind of like the thing that keeps your country going.
- 27:51Yeah. Like things that we take for
- 27:54granted. So it's yeah, it's very
- 27:58interesting and You can see how like the Empire would take
- 28:02advantage of that and exploit it on incredible levels.
- 28:10Oh man, that's seen though with luthan.
- 28:15It was even longer than what we saw in the preview.
- 28:18Yes and it was even better because I love the interspersed
- 28:22scenes of them coming to the place that added kind of a
- 28:25frantic feeling chance they had to make a decision.
- 28:28And when they got away and and Lutheran's kind of, tell it less
- 28:32than 1, never do this less than to never do that.
- 28:35And like, I thought it was so fucking cool when he Lou it up
- 28:40at the end. Yeah, I like it.
- 28:43They weren't in that original speeder.
- 28:45They were on a different one or transporting that they were on a
- 28:48speeder and he just like, Click, Boom, whatever.
- 28:51And that like that was it, you know.
- 28:53Yeah. It's so cool because you can see
- 28:56how Cassie and is Wily but like not wise.
- 29:01Yeah, it's not polished. Yeah, but we know he gets there.
- 29:05Yes, exactly. You know, by the time we get to
- 29:07Rogue one, he's very, very Very good at what he does.
- 29:11So it's, yeah, it's really cool to kind of see how they're
- 29:14establishing his character. Is a bit of a tragic background,
- 29:19but also a bit of a, I don't even know, like a Ruffian, if
- 29:24you want to call it that. But somebody who's clearly owes
- 29:27a lot of people money and you're not really sure why.
- 29:31So he's not a super, like, I don't like a super good guy, you
- 29:35know? It's but like if you're in with
- 29:37him, it's good. If you He owes you money.
- 29:40He's going to give you shit a lot of shit.
- 29:43How great was that alien character?
- 29:46That just stood there. He's like you told me to stand
- 29:48here. You just told me to stand here
- 29:50and look at you like a toad like perfectly.
- 29:53That was one of my favorites. He's I loved that.
- 29:57Oh my God, the face was perfect. How tall he wasn't.
- 30:00His face is kind of angled in those eyes and like he just told
- 30:03me to stand here like that is like you're working with him
- 30:07know you need work this badly. Yeah.
- 30:09Right doofus. I thought that was so cute.
- 30:13I love it too. But he's like, you know, it was
- 30:15great to see you again and just walks away.
- 30:18And the guys, like what? Yeah, exactly I did what you
- 30:21said, like pay me. No, yeah, that was great.
- 30:25Yes, I don't like the little details like that.
- 30:28I love that. Another thing I really loved.
- 30:33Was when she was about to go down.
- 30:35All of the citizens started banging on metal.
- 30:39Yes, I didn't understand but I did at the same time like I was
- 30:44like, what are they doing? Yeah.
- 30:46But then I didn't need to know I just knew because they all
- 30:50started doing it and it was kind of Blended in with his stepmoms
- 30:55words of like when it stops then what.
- 30:58And then she gives like a look like mmmm.
- 31:00Oh my God, I got Sperms, I leave that scene.
- 31:04I loved her performance of that because, so good didn't even say
- 31:07anything. It's just like, you know, when
- 31:09it stops and he's like, what happens when it stops and she
- 31:12just goes. Yeah, so get back in her chair.
- 31:15Yeah, it's so great. That was fantastic.
- 31:19And then it did stop. And it was funny, because you
- 31:21started to not even notice it in the background.
- 31:23And then, when it stopped, you're like, oh shit.
- 31:26Yeah. It's just like, slowly building
- 31:29your anxiety and you don't even know why.
- 31:31Yeah. Yeah, it was a brilliant.
- 31:33That's a brilliant touch. Yeah.
- 31:37I like communal things like that, just the level of detail
- 31:43in the show from those little details but like they're not
- 31:46over explaining to you. They're letting their, they're
- 31:49respecting the audience's intelligence by just putting it
- 31:52there and either your put it together or you won't.
- 31:55But it doesn't really matter if you don't write, it's just going
- 31:57to like add to the tapestry, you know?
- 32:00Yes. Yes.
- 32:00And then like when they're on the Speeder Bike speeding away
- 32:03and they're going over those like they're like always panties
- 32:06or like the Colored fields, which is very reminiscent of
- 32:10looking down at the United Kingdom.
- 32:12When you fly over it, there are these weird shaped fields that
- 32:16are not even necessarily Square. Yeah.
- 32:18You know, you see that in a lot of agricultural, parts of the
- 32:21country here, even in the United States.
- 32:24I just like you didn't have to put that detail in.
- 32:27They could have just been. It was driving down a dirt road.
- 32:29Like, I love it. I love the production design on
- 32:33this, it's so good. Well, the end was The end of
- 32:38episode three was by far, my favorite because of the focus
- 32:41and the weaving of kassian leaving.
- 32:47One part of his past with his stepmom.
- 32:50His now, stepmom leaving a that behind compared to him leaving
- 32:56her again. Well, he's leaving her this
- 33:00time. Yeah, behind with everything.
- 33:03He's known for this next step and the sunlight on his face in
- 33:07the show. In his eyes like I thought.
- 33:09Yeah. Like it was like, you know, hope
- 33:13and light are connected so much in Star Wars and you're looking
- 33:18ahead. There is light you know what
- 33:20happens at the end of Row 1 with all of that light?
- 33:24Yes that comes towards him and gin on the beach so it's like
- 33:30This is the shit that I wanted. From the show like that scene
- 33:36alone, beautiful, beautiful. And to show the parallel of him
- 33:42as a kid, this is waking up in the ship and looking out.
- 33:45He's never probably seen a view like that and now he's in this
- 33:50new ship going out and it's like the threshold of a new chapter
- 33:55in his life starting, you know, like that.
- 33:57They showed that in parallel. I thought was so, and like, not
- 34:01over handed. It wasn't heavy handed.
- 34:03It was They even cut it in a way where for a second you weren't
- 34:07sure. Are you seeing current or past?
- 34:10You know, and I didn't matter did because it was so similar to
- 34:14him exactly. It was his life that he was
- 34:17reliving almost you know, in a different way.
- 34:21So what are your thoughts on? How is there any Myrna was that
- 34:26her name, his stepmother, his adoptive mother whatever her and
- 34:30I didn't see what her husband's name was.
- 34:32I assume that man with Was her husband.
- 34:34But what were your thoughts? How she kept saying?
- 34:38She wanted to take him and rescue him because the Empire is
- 34:40coming and this surely are going to kill him.
- 34:43Whereas the ban is saying, he has people here like just leave
- 34:45him. Like you're taking him is
- 34:48actually going to do more harm than good.
- 34:51What did you think of that? I want to know if there's more
- 34:55to it than that. Hmm I don't know if there is
- 35:01like maybe she just is, you know, a nice, a good person who
- 35:05wanted to save one but did the rest die or not?
- 35:09Yeah, I guess they didn't know about the other people.
- 35:12I don't know. It's I thought that was an
- 35:14interesting scene. Marva Marva.
- 35:17And or is her name? Oh okay.
- 35:20So he took her last name. Yeah, that's kind of
- 35:22interesting. I wonder if we'll get like what
- 35:24his other last name was his native last name.
- 35:28I don't know. Yeah, I don't know.
- 35:30What did you what did you think of it though?
- 35:34Of that I kind of feel the same way you do.
- 35:36It's like I want to know if it's if there was some other reason
- 35:41you know that she was she was really eager to take him.
- 35:45She was like really quickly wanted to take him and it's like
- 35:49if it was to protect him. Why take him?
- 35:53Why not try and find his people and leave him with the people?
- 35:57He's already with? I don't know.
- 35:59I yeah, I thought it was a interesting.
- 36:02Maybe they couldn't have children, maybe I mean there
- 36:08didn't seem to be contention between her and Cassie.
- 36:10And they actually seem to be very kind of, like, loving with
- 36:12each other's, right? Right.
- 36:14He doesn't seem to hold a grudge about it, but maybe he does
- 36:18secretly and didn't want to show her.
- 36:19I don't know. We'll see how everything
- 36:21unfolds. I'm very interested to see how
- 36:23they're going to keep representing that I really hope
- 36:26we're not done with Marvel's character because obviously I
- 36:29love the actress. I love the performance so far,
- 36:32and I hope to get to know more because there's a gap there and
- 36:36I'm sure we'll get some flashbacks that will answer
- 36:38these questions. Maybe, hopefully, I don't know.
- 36:41Yeah, I hope so. I hope because like he just
- 36:44leaves her without she doesn't even know.
- 36:47Yeah, it's like, maybe she does mothers intuition.
- 36:50Yeah, yeah. Drew.
- 36:52It's possible. And and his voice did come over
- 36:55the Droid. That said, tell her, I'm sorry,
- 36:56tell her, I have to go tell her. You're right.
- 36:59That's so she heard some of that, but, yeah, maybe the
- 37:03female character, the the mechanic I can't remember her
- 37:06name. Gorgeous.
- 37:08Oh yeah. Who asked for Kathy?
- 37:11I feel bonded to her because she first thing she asked for was
- 37:13coffee in the morning. I loved her.
- 37:18As she I'm maybe she'll have a talk, maybe she'll go find the
- 37:21mother. Sure, she's okay.
- 37:23Oh, yeah, maybe I'm sure they all know each other, Maybe.
- 37:26Did you notice when Myrna Marva? Marvin?
- 37:30Martina Martina. I don't know.
- 37:33Minerva no wrong story. Fiona Shaw.
- 37:37Yeah, notice. We only way to is his bedroom.
- 37:40He had it stuffed Mammoth or a bantha?
- 37:44Yes, yes, yes, I saw that. And I was like, okay, we need to
- 37:48have one because they make stuffed everything, except I
- 37:51haven't seen a band that Disney yet, so they better come out
- 37:54with one. I want one if you know My old
- 37:57saying of save the bantha, free. The bantha.
- 38:00Yeah. Afraid the banthas.
- 38:02Yeah, man. Yeah, I love it.
- 38:12Alright, our question this week to you, all is of the three
- 38:16episodes, which one did you like the best or conversely?
- 38:20If there was one scene that you loved in all three episodes,
- 38:24which one was your favorite scene?
- 38:25Let us know. No.
- 38:29Join us back here. Next week, we are going to dive
- 38:31back into some ob1 stuff. We're going to discuss.
- 38:36We're going to discuss similarities and differences
- 38:38between Obi-Wan's relationship with Satine and Anakin's
- 38:42relationship with Pat made. There's a lot to dive into
- 38:45there. So, yeah, join us back next
- 38:47week. Very interesting stuff.
- 38:51So we got a couple of listener comments from our episode last
- 38:53week, when we tried to pair Star Wars characters with what their
- 38:58real life jobs would be if they lived in the here and now been
- 39:03our friend Ben sent this to us. He says, to answer your
- 39:06question, I think if Luke had our universe he would be forced
- 39:11to be a cook in a restaurant than Uncle.
- 39:13Owen is the owner of that he keeps a very small staff count
- 39:17so Luke would be a part of that, which I Totally see.
- 39:22Yeah I could see the waitstaff perhaps the maitre d and Uncle
- 39:26Owens restaurant. He would be a great Surfer.
- 39:30He would be great and he would hate every minute of it.
- 39:32Absolutely. And then we did talk about the
- 39:35Rogue one characters and one person we didn't mention is Bode
- 39:38the pilot but Brick Ben says that Bode would be a parachute
- 39:42instructor and remain a pilot in his, you know, on the off time.
- 39:47So parachute instructor would be a really good.
- 39:50He would be like, you know, a skydiver.
- 39:53I could see that. Yeah, he's so nervous though.
- 39:56Yeah, he would need to practice. He's a little bit hungry, be
- 39:59like double-checking your parachute over and over and over
- 40:03Toby. Yeah.
- 40:04So what comment did you get on on YouTube?
- 40:06Right. So yeah, YouTube Gabby.
- 40:09Left us a comment saying, can you imagine Vader sitting at the
- 40:13desk? When you walk into the DMV to
- 40:15renew your license, as you let it expire.
- 40:19Is like, I find your Lack of timely renewal disturbing.
