- 1:18few minutes that the Wall memorial that's going to have its new permanent home in
- 1:23Nitro, that is going to be arriving on scene, or is arriving one
- 1:26scene right now. Joe Stevens is scheduled to give us a call this morning
- 1:30to give us an update of how that is going on the ground. Just
- 1:33for a couple of minutes. We're waiting to hear from Joe from the city
- 1:34of Nitro. But joining me in studio this morning, as I promised earlier
- 1:38this weekend yesterday, Danny Jones is back with him this one. Danny,
- 1:41good morning, how you doing. Good morning. I was this is the
- 1:42Vietnam Wall. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I was in Spener probably ten
- 1:48twelve years ago and the mayor's we were meeting up there and they bought the
- 1:53wall there and Lisa Dully, the lob who ran our believe, she says,
- 2:00will you make a speech about the wall? And I said, sery
- 2:02will. But in the hour before I had to speak, I didn't have
- 2:07anything to do, and I started looking at that wall. I lost it
- 2:13and I got up. I couldn't. I couldn't get it together. I
- 2:15just couldn't. I was born after just after the Vietnam War ended officially.
- 2:20But still I've been to DC, I've seen the wall. I've been to
- 2:23many memorials. Um. I don't even have a lot of close family that
- 2:27served, but there's just something about it when you go there. It's it's
- 2:30the is the it is the weight of history that just lies on you there.
- 2:36And we have Joe stevens Now. So let's go ahead and go to
- 2:38Joe real quick and and find out what's going on in Nitro. Joe,
- 2:39good morning, how you doing this morning? First off, very well,
- 2:44the monument is here in Nitro now, the War memorial, Danny, thank
- 2:47you so much for your service. You've always been a supporter of the service,
- 2:53folks, and we appreciate it. Where is the wall? The wall
- 2:59will be criminal place, Danny in the Nitro Wars Museum, which is on
- 3:04twentieth three, and it will be erected today and people can start coming see
- 3:09it about three or four o'clock this afternoon, and we are open Monday through
- 3:15Friday from noon until four and we will be open on Memorial Day. Right
- 3:19now, Babe Simmons of the Vietnam Council of West Virginia is speaking. We've
- 3:23got about two hundred elementary school students out here. It's just going to be
- 3:29it's it's a real important day for the city of Nitro's history. That's outstanding,
- 3:34and so there's still time. There's going to be festivities that are going
- 3:37on all day to day until you can actually go through its permanent home and
- 3:39see it. And it's a new situation after three o'clock or so, but
- 3:44the folks wanted to roll down there to see some of the festivities that's it
- 3:46taking place before then. There's still plenty of things going on, a lot
- 3:50of things going on, but the big thing is the more memorial. We're
- 3:53setting it up and getting it and people in about a couple of hours it
- 3:58will take and they can start and coming in deserved Dale. Thanks for making
- 4:00sure we got the word out about it again. A real, real important
- 4:04day in the city of Nitro. And I'll tell you what he's uh,
- 4:08elementary school students are very attentive of what's being chatted about. I've got to
- 4:12go all right, thanks man, I appreciate it. That's Joe Stevens letting
- 4:15us know what's going on with that wa memorial going to to nightro that's a
- 4:17that's a neat thing that that's going to have a home there now, unbelievable.
- 4:20And there I have two friends on there that how at Tasco with and
- 4:26one of them was guy named David Groves and he h was in He was
- 4:30in the senior class with Bob Wise. Bob Wise was a senior in high
- 4:33school and I was a sophomore. And I remember David Gers like yesterday.
- 4:39So we'll open up the phone lines now. Dani's gonna here all hour.
- 4:42I don't have anything else planned. Danny has some things that we had talked
- 4:44about and we're going to present so or he's going to present a few thoughts
- 4:46that we have about some things that are going on currently, how things have
- 4:49changed a little bit. You're more than welcome to call in. Open it
- 4:51up. Anything you want to talk about this morning, anything that's in state
- 4:54or national politics, anything you want to talk to Danny or me about.
- 4:59Three or three four five fifty fifty eight. Three or four three four five
- 5:01fifty fifty eight is a number you can call anyone. You can also text
- 5:03over any questions or comments you have. The threes or four nine three five
- 5:06five zero zero eighth three or four nine, three, five five zero zero
- 5:10eighth is our text line number. You're more than welcome to do that.
- 5:14So what's going on on? You've had a lot of stuff on your mind,
- 5:15and uh, we're getting I'd like to give you an outlet over here
- 5:18every once in a while. What's going on, Danny? Well? First
- 5:21thing? This morning? The governor, Oh yes, was on the Hugh
- 5:26Hewett Show. And I watched it. It was it was on. I
- 5:29could watch it on video and Hugh Hewett is a national talk show. Sees
- 5:33was Salem. And I have a buddy that that has an office right beside
- 5:39his He's a really smart guy and he worked at the Clinton earned Clinton.
- 5:43He worked at the Nixon Library for years to help President Clinton a prison President
- 5:49Nixon. He helped ghost write some of those books. And he was under
- 5:54Reagan. He as a very young man. He was in charge of It's
- 5:57some big personnel job. But he had the governor on there this morning,
- 6:01and uh, he was smitten, you know, and the governor has a
- 6:05charm about him, and uh he said, he said, Governor, I
- 6:11used to come down to West Virginia and down to Charleston and you'd you'd go
- 6:15four ways and you'd run into four Democrats, and now it seems like it's
- 6:20the opposite with the Republicans. He said, what made the change, Barack
- 6:25Obama, That's what did it. Yeah, that's what did it. You
- 6:29and uh he talked about and he talked about Joe Manton. You gotta call.
- 6:32Yeah, we do. Let's go ahead, we want to go do
- 6:33that. Okay, let's go ahead and get Tom on the line. Who's
- 6:36called in this morning to talk to to talk today? Any Tom? Good
- 6:39morning? How you doing this morning? Good thing? One, I'm really
- 6:42missing his ribs. And second, if he was the governor, what he
- 6:46would do about the state police situation? Oh? Interesting question? Okay,
- 6:51all right, all right, thank you Tom. I'll get into it.
- 6:57Um. I think that first thing the culture the same way I did that
- 7:04the Sheriff's department. I put a chief deputy there that had been a State
- 7:08treat Police trooper and he was in charge of criminal investigations. And his name
- 7:14was Larry Harold. He still with us, and he changed everything with eighteen
- 7:20months. The Sheriff's department was a different place. And I think the culture
- 7:25starts at the top. I mean, the work is at the bottom,
- 7:28but the culture starts at the top, and it can eminate the type of
- 7:33leadership you provide is is what you wind up with. I don't know all
- 7:41the details of what happened there, but if they had people that were that
- 7:46were watching women take showers, yeah, what is that? I mean state
- 7:50police First, I think it's a felony, and I mean I don't that's
- 7:58a culture. I don't. And this is supposed to be law enforcement.
- 8:01I mean, that's like a seedy hotel owner or something. I mean to
- 8:03think about that at a state police bar exit. And the primary concern of
- 8:09that is is more than substantial enough when you have people that have cameras in
- 8:15locker rooms watching women get dressed in shower and things like that, that that
- 8:18is bad enough on its own, But to me, it also indicates if
- 8:22that was being done, I mean, there's virtually no limit to what else.
- 8:26I mean, what else is unknown right now, because I mean that's
- 8:30a pretty low moral bar. I mean, that's a pretty low moral bar.
- 8:33That means that there's a lot of room for other activity that is,
- 8:37you know, equal low, low moral stature. To me, it concerns
- 8:43me nobody was running the show. That's what I see in this whole thing.
- 8:46So so culture, you'd have to adapt somebody that would help up the
- 8:50culture. Yeah, it's it's leadership and it's um there's ways to deal with
- 8:56it. It would take a while, but you have to You can't just
- 9:01sit in Charleston or you have to be out there, and you have to
- 9:05have a strong staff, you know, that is culturally prone to do the
- 9:11right thing. Did you want to go back to the justice being? Yeah,
- 9:16he said, Uh. He was asking about Joe Manchon and he says,
- 9:22I assume you get along with Joe Man. Yeah. I like Joe
- 9:24and he's a nice guy. But he's got charm and charisma. But uh,
- 9:33and he's one quite a few races here, but he ain't gonna win
- 9:37this one, you know. And the problem the governor has and is this
- 9:45Club for Growth. They're gonna put ten million dollars in this there, and
- 9:48he's against Mooney. So the question becomes this, folks, you really think
- 9:54Mooney cares? Do you think Mooney or the Club for Growth give up care
- 9:58at all about Virginia? You know, I was sixty years old before West
- 10:03Virginia was a twinkle an Alex Mooney's eye. And uh, I just so
- 10:09that I'm going to help the governor in the primary. Now if if Joe
- 10:13runs, I'll go over there. I think Joe's looking at that president.
- 10:18He's looking there's no labels, people pretty hard. I think, well,
- 10:20we'll see what And to me anyway, I know Joe hasn't said this,
- 10:22but to me anyway, he's been the positioning for this for a while.
- 10:28I think, and and maybe Justice getting into the race was sort of his
- 10:31because that's a I mean, I know Joe has ultimate confidence in himself,
- 10:35and he should. He's a good politician, he's well funded and everything.
- 10:37But you know, justics a little different animal than what he's telling This time.
- 10:41It's not gonna be like twenty eighteen. This time the Republicans at the
- 10:43top of the ticket, and um, the Republican's gonna sweep through West Virginia
- 10:50like crazy sou will. You know, let's see what happens. I just
- 10:58um, And I don't want him to get mad at me because I really
- 11:01do like Joe. I really do consider him a friend. Hope he considers
- 11:05me one. So yeah, it is an interesting it'll just be an interesting
- 11:09race. It's something that that you want to uh, we want to keep
- 11:11our eyes on and that we want to uh and we want to UH,
- 11:15we're going to be covering it. That's the bottom minding the primary. That's
- 11:18right, We're focusing on the primary and UH and UH it's going to be
- 11:22competitive and it's going to be big. I had a political commentator on yesterday,
- 11:26Andrew Donaldson, who's UH promoted him Winning Your Own his show, but
- 11:30he writes for a couple of national outlets. But he made he lives in
- 11:33North Carolina, He's from West Virginia. But he made the point that the
- 11:37Club for Growth and the strategy that are going to be deploying it is exactly
- 11:39the strategy that the same picks used to get Ted budd Um elected in North
- 11:43Carolina because he had a similar type of primary challenge when when he got elected.
- 11:48And it's this strategy is a well known strategy to to basically just dump
- 11:54all that money into to uh for for a business person and unearthing all of
- 11:58these uh, these things that are behind the scenes looked. I've had differences
- 12:01with the governor, but I mean, who do you think they can control
- 12:05the Club for Growth? Why do you think they're picking mooney? You know
- 12:09it is what it is, so yeah, that's very true. Danny Jones

- 14:35in three zero four, three four five fifty eight fifty eight. No cause
- 14:39right now. So we're gonna wait just a moment. And there's a few
- 14:41things that we wanted to talk, and I wanted to I've told people at
- 14:43nauseam head infinitem to try. If you're a Republican or Democrat for that matter,
- 14:50watch the nineteen sixty four Goldwater Sceptance speech, because if you're a Republican,
- 14:56your DNA is in that speech. So this first cut has to do
- 15:03with foreign policy, okay. So it is our cause to dispel the foggy
- 15:09thinking which avoids hard decisions, in the delusion that a world of conflict will
- 15:16somehow mysteriously resolve itself into a world of harmony if we just don't rock the
- 15:22boat or irritate the forces of aggression. And this is agwars, okay.
- 15:33So the next one, the next one has to do with with telling the
- 15:41truth and and about Democrat years and the difference go ahead. That has been
- 15:50during democratic years that our strength to the Tior war has tod still and even
- 15:56gone into a planned decline. It has been during democratic years that we have
- 16:03weakly stumbled into conflict, timidly refusing to draw our own lines against aggression,
- 16:10deceitfully refusing to tell even our own people of our full participation, and tragically
- 16:18letting our finest men die on battlefields unmarked by purpose, unmarked by pride?
- 16:26Are the prospective victory? Yes yesterday, that was covered young tonight. It
- 16:45is Vietnam. Make no bones of this. Don't try to sweep fish under
- 16:52the rug. We are at war in Vietnam. And yet the president,
- 17:08who is the commander in chief of our courses, refuses to say, refuses
- 17:15to say, mind you, whether or not the objective over there is victory.
- 17:22Secretary of Defense continues to mislead and misinformed the American people. I don't
- 17:27enough of us gone by, So that that was that was the truth that
- 17:33should have been carried out of that speech, because Johnson wasn't in McNamara.
- 17:40They were, they were way, they were way apart from the truth.
- 17:44But instead this is what carried the day, this particular clause go on gl
- 17:57our Republican isn't so focused and so dedicated, not being made fuzzy and feudal
- 18:04by unthinking and stupid labels. I would remind you that extremism and the defense
- 18:22of liberty is no vice. That was that applause went on for a while,
- 18:36and then after that he said moderation in the pursuit of justice isn't a
- 18:38virtue. But the press, that was the speech, extremism and defensive liberty
- 18:45is no vice. And they were putting the Republicans were putting up billboards that
- 18:52said in your heart, you know he's right, and the Democrats put up
- 18:59a billboards said in your guts, you know he's nuts. And that was
- 19:03how they painted Goldwater during that campaign. And Rock he was good friends with
- 19:07of all people, remember Robin McNeil, McNeil lair not oh yeah, yeah,
- 19:11okay, yeah, okay, And he covered Goldwater and they got to
- 19:14be friends. But he says, I just couldn't vote for him, and
- 19:18uh, two years later he said I shouldn't have voted for him. So
- 19:22go ahead. We'll have a little bit more on this a little bit later
- 19:25on. But Brian has called him this morning. He has a question of
- 19:26comment for Danny as well. Briman, good morning, how are you doing.
- 19:30Good morning, gentlemen, how are you doing good. It's amazing that
- 19:34we went from Goldwater and extremism and the defensive liberty is not advice to being
- 19:42woke. Well, um, the reason the reason I called Danny, you
- 19:49said that if Joe got in the race, you would go over there.
- 19:53I think we're your words. He's got a couple of visuals that he's got
- 20:00to deal with in order to get by the people of West Virginia. One
- 20:06is when he started to stand up and give a pause to one of the
- 20:11lines in Trump's address, and Schumer glanced at him and set him down while
- 20:22he was about halfway up. It was embarrassing. The other is when President
- 20:29Biden handed Joe mentioned that pen that he signed that awful bill with, and
- 20:37Mansion treated that like somebody had handed him a grenade with the pen pulled.
- 20:41He knew exactly what he meant. He tried his best to give that pen
- 20:47to Schumer, and Schumer wouldn't take it, and so he had to put
- 20:51it in his pocket. He's gonna he's gonna have to answer to some things
- 20:56that are just absolutely untruth and thank thank you, thank you, Brian.
- 21:02Look appreciate Brian. I'll be seventy three this summer and today, by the
- 21:07way, marks twenty nine years of fighting the urge to consume alcohol twenty nine
- 21:14years. But thank you, And but I told Joe about that. But
- 21:21I'm at the time in my life where a friendship means more to me,
- 21:26and being true to myself means more to me. So if I'm poor Joe
- 21:32Mansion, it won't be because I'm against anybody else. And if if more
- 21:37capital than run the governor's race, I may go to Huntington. I'm not
- 21:41sure about that one yet, but we'll find out. What's interesting, even
- 21:45on Brian's critique there is there wasn't really anything policy based on that. It
- 21:48was a look that Schumer gave him. And then this thing with the Inflation
- 21:52Reduction Act. And I would be interested in a legitimate bait, not among
- 21:56politicians, but maybe among West Virginian citizens about the Inflation Reduction Act, because
- 22:00there is movement in this state that a lot of people have been taking credit
- 22:03for that is attributed a lot to what went on there. It would be
- 22:07an interesting discussion. But the optics, yeah, of course, optics,
- 22:11of course are are searing into one to mine and because again you can't do
- 22:18that anymore, that optic of him with Schumer Pelosi, the people he caucus
- 22:25with. Yeah, is is a killer. It's a loser, But that's
- 22:30that doesn't that doesn't mean I have to be betray my friendship with him,
- 22:36and I did it in twenty and eighteen. He barely got through. Here's
- 22:38kind of what I what I wonder about this. There's a lot of people
- 22:41that talk about Jim Justice running for governor on the national stage, and you
- 22:45mentioned it as well, that he has um no idea what's coming for him
- 22:48because the national people are gonna get involved with this. Locally, nobody here
- 22:53has cared about any of this stuff that's attached to the to governor Justice.
- 22:56They don't care about his debts, they don't care about slow paying build they
- 22:59don't care about any of that stuff. They've elected him overwhelmingly each time.
- 23:02They don't care about that at all. I just kind of think that the
- 23:04people to vote for Mansion are the same way. They know that he caucuses
- 23:07with Democrats, they know that Schumer's gonna occasionally handle hand him the pen.
- 23:11They know that this isn't new about Joe now. The cultures knew that that
- 23:17we have in politics now. But I don't know. I know that it's
- 23:19bad optically, but it's bad optically for the people that already don't like Mansion.
- 23:22The people that we get text for all the time on the Hobbies text
- 23:26line that caused him a communist Democrat or whatever. Those are the people the
- 23:29optics are bad for. They're not going to put for him anyway. The
- 23:30people in the Canall County Democrats. They had their office on the corner of
- 23:37Courrier and Dune Bursary and it was just a few few doors down for me.
- 23:44And I got to know a lot of those people, and they're very
- 23:45good people. And I'm sorry, Senator Sellings, yea, i'd beat.
- 23:49But there's also the purity police on the Democrats side. Oh yeah, and
- 23:55they don't care. They don't, they don't. They wouldn't vote for Joe
- 24:00Mansion for nothing. And that's on the left. Yeah. Now on the
- 24:03right, he's got people like me, they're friends. But I'm not seeing
- 24:07it. I'm just not seeing a day a lot. I mean, I'll
- 24:11be there with him, you know, better than me. I'm just I
- 24:15think that it's that a lot of these people, I mean, what baggage
- 24:19does Joe have that people don't know about? I just don't think there is
- 24:22anything. They've been waiting. Yeah, yeah, now that's true. That's
- 24:25true. There's for people that's been waiting for it. And and and frankly,
- 24:27as much as they're friend of mees um with the Justice and Mansion,
- 24:30the Justice are one of those people that's been waiting for a shot. He
- 24:33said that he got along wail with Joe, but but but that it's I
- 24:40think they're friend of Me's I think they're friend of me. He's not gonna
- 24:42yeah, yeah, I do. Yeah, I think that's about right.
- 24:45I think we have a call on line. Is it Joe from Charleston?
- 24:48It's Jim from I'm sorry, Jim, go ahead, Jim. What's what
- 24:52do you have for Danny Well? He helped me out a lot, and
- 24:56I like Danny a lot, and I'm I'm wondering what what's your reaction to
- 25:00my question regarding the media and its influence in politics on like the local level
- 25:08and then the national level. You need to talk about optics and another caller
- 25:14mentioned two instances where Mansion, you know, showed some not two positive optics
- 25:22and it's how the optics are treated. What do you think Danny Well locally,
- 25:26I think we're okay media wise. I think that first thing, nobody
- 25:33does better than this news crew in this building. But I think that channel
- 25:38I'm partial Channel eight, but Markers is over at thirteen, and I mean
- 25:45Channel three, I think they're fine. I don't dave any problem nationally.
- 25:51You know, there was a book written about nineteen seventy named The Left Leaning
- 25:56Antenna and it was written by a guy named Joseph Keiley, and he describes
- 26:03how the antenna leans left and on one thing he attributed to is the concentration
- 26:10of the media in big urban areas. And these people hang out together,
- 26:17they drink together, they sleep with each other. I mean, these are
- 26:21people that are are in the same fraternity and they look at things the same
- 26:29to get out well. And Roger Ailes from more In, Ohio, which
- 26:34is where Hugh Hewitt is from. Um, he wanted to do something different
- 26:40and that's why Fox News came along. He wasn't looking so much for a
- 26:42conservative bent. He was looking more for a mid middle of the America bent.
- 26:48I mean, I read this before he got in trouble. So what
- 26:52happened as far as that goes, Because it's not middle, it's not a
- 26:55close. No, it's um it got worse because if we talk about if
- 27:00we talk about left leaning on the national political level, there's no question that
- 27:03conservatives have carved out their own bubble, their own media, and they participate
- 27:07and live within that, just as equally Fox is the conservative station and News
- 27:14Mix n I mean, all of these live and kind of pretend worlds,
- 27:18just like MSNBC lives in the pretend Trump the Arrangement world. I mean,
- 27:21these are these are fantasy worlds. That's their brand, though, that's all
- 27:25those people, that's their brand. News Max has about one hundred thousand people
- 27:27watching them. Yeah, I know, but but they're crazy, they are.
- 27:32But Fox, like they had the night everybody got a big deal about
- 27:37Tucker Carlson. He had three million listeners. When Bill O'Reilly left with no
- 27:42commercials because even the Pillar Guide dumped him, he had four million listeners.
- 27:48These platforms are not going to last. And all you have to do is
- 27:52look at the age of the people in the in the ratings that are watching
- 27:56them, the key demographic and you know this better than I am, what
- 28:02twenty five to fifty four or something like that. They don't get any they
- 28:06get very little of it. Those those kind of programs. Look at the
- 28:08commercials that they air, and those are the demo that you get. People
- 28:11are looking to go to platforms. And one who's been very successful to Megan
- 28:17Kelly. You know, she's on YouTube and she's got her own talk show
- 28:21in other places, and that's what people are looking for. That's why Joe
- 28:26Rogan so successful. People are looking for platforms. This guy that comes on
- 28:30here at noon every day, he's pushing all the different aspects of his platform.
- 28:36You know, he's not my favorite, but but anyway, that's what's
- 28:41going to happen. Let me say this just in that space, and I'll
- 28:44say something kind about about Rush Um because I liked Rush, and I just
- 28:48want to say the one thing that from beginning to end that I could always
- 28:52count one for rushing them ball is he loved radio. He loved radio,
- 28:57and every not everybody that's in that space actually loves radio. Rush. I
- 29:00loved radio, and I love radio, and you love radio. And Rush
- 29:06got fired from six different radio stations. Still loved it, and just listening
- 29:10to radio is having fun. Yea, and the guys on the air were
- 29:12having fun. But I'm telling you now and This is very important. These
- 29:17platforms are not gonna last. Radio will last? Radio will last? I
- 29:22agree with you, and they will be the platforms that will. And by
- 29:26the way, that AM stuff out on none not Now, what's up?
- 29:32They've changed it? Oh, they they've already. Ford has already said they're
- 29:36gonna put as you know, people don't. Everybody talks about the you know,
- 29:41the the natural resources with their lobbying groups and everybody with their the lobbrary
- 29:45groups, National Association of Broadcasters or no or no whimps when it comes to
- 29:48that sort of things. And we have the facts on our side. What
- 29:49are you gonna do with E S? If you get rid of AM radios?
- 29:52What are you gonna do with E s? The emergency alert system is
- 29:55built on the AM signal. What do you gonna do with it? You
- 29:56can't take it out of the cars. You can't. You just can't.
- 30:00Yeah, Yeah, So we're gonna be there. It may be in a
- 30:00different delivery system. There's things that we have in the in the works here
- 30:03to make sure that we're always going to be relevant and on top of the
- 30:07things there. But you're not getting rid of AM. Ready, those late
- 30:08night talk shows I don't care what's side they're on. MSNBC's about half commie,
- 30:14and then you've got Fox who's I did stay up and watch Trey Gallery
- 30:18last night interview Ron de Santis. It was very good, very interesting to
- 30:22Santa's needed to have some spec because his Twitter thing was at a disaster.
- 30:26Well, but that wasn't his fault. No, it wasn't. It wasn't,
- 30:29but it was a disaster though. I Mean. The one thing I
- 30:32like about him, and I'm not taking sides, I like the fact that
- 30:37he's the only one of all these candidates that has any military experience. Usually
- 30:42all of them had it all four President Roosevelt's kids had a tide of the
- 30:48I'm talking about FDR had a tide of the military. I don't I don't
- 30:51get this. Yeah, it's not it's not at all something that has looked
- 30:55at as much anymore. It's it's it's the sign of the times. That's
- 30:56the truth. Yeah, unfortunately, non thirty eight. We need to take

- 34:30the phone lines right now. Joe this time has called in from Charleston.
- 34:32Has a question or comment for Danny. Joe, good morning, how you
- 34:35doing this morning? Good morning guys, Danny had heard you on the radio
- 34:37for a while. Thank you. Just a couple of first things put out
- 34:42of the way, Danny. Congratulations cleaning sober and thank you for your service.
- 34:47Buddy, Yes, sir, A couple comments there about you know,
- 34:54left right, leaning, Joe's going this way and Moony's at I like to
- 35:01think of myself as a conservative, middle of road West Virginia and little right
- 35:07of little right of center. Yeah maybe, I mean. The thing of
- 35:12it is, I'm a very libertarian. I believe in everybody having their own
- 35:16rights. And if somebody wants to do something and it doesn't tread on me,
- 35:21I think of Patrick Henry. I may not agree with what you say,
- 35:23but I'll defend with my wife. You're right to say you would have
- 35:27liked gold Rutter because he was the ultimate conservative libertarian. Go ahead, go
- 35:30out with your commentary. But the thing of it is, when we look
- 35:34at things that's affecting West Virginia, and I think Joe has really alienated himself
- 35:38from West Virginia. He's going to have a hard hurdle to come over there.
- 35:43But my family is mixed, and I look at things hitting everybody across
- 35:47the big picture in DC and the swamps it's up there. And just because
- 35:52the color of my skin or to uncolour my skin, I'm not a racist,
- 35:57but because I'm like, have my guns, I'm not a mass murderer.
- 36:01Okay. And but if a woman wants to have something done. That's
- 36:07her right. But I believe in the Bible, and I believe I'm not
- 36:09going to push my issues on them. But I think I think the thing
- 36:14that people are missing is and the silent majority. And I think that's one
- 36:20of the things that Trump hit on. I like America. I mean,
- 36:24Danny, you served, you signed that contract to put your life on the
- 36:29line, and you swore an oath to the Constitution to America, and you're
- 36:34a You're a great American. And people these to quit bash in America because
- 36:38of America, And that's just it. We're not a bad country. If
- 36:43we were a bad country, we wouldn't have millions coming across the borders trying
- 36:46to get in here. All right, Well, Joe, that's that's good.
- 36:50Thank you very much for calling the show this morning. Um, let's
- 36:52can we do those others sound Yeah, yeah, I know you want to
- 36:54get to Let me try to make the transition here. You heard Goldwater early
- 37:00now from sixty four to nineteen eighty, Like George Will said, we didn't
- 37:07really lose the election to sixty four. We just finally counted the votes in
- 37:12nineteen eighty. But the change that was made to the Republican Party came in
- 37:16with Reagan. He bought the religious right and it started at this great gathering
- 37:23of these evangelicals and their lead speaker was Ronald Reagan. So play that James
- 37:30Robinson was the one that introduced him, and he was a firebrand. Then
- 37:36he's in his eighties. Now let's listen to that first sound bite. If
- 37:42the righteous, the pro family, the moral, the biblical, the godly,
- 37:50the hard working and the decent individuals in this country stay out of politics,
- 37:57who on this earth does that leave to make the policies under which you
- 38:01and I live and struggle to survive. So um, Then he talked a
- 38:09bit. Now, if you go to his website, the speech is on
- 38:13here. I'm going to give you the part they cut out. They took
- 38:15this out of the speech. Interesting, yeah, and because he talked about
- 38:20the different people that had carved out their place and did did we want to
- 38:24let them beat us go? And the perverse and the liberals and let us
- 38:30and the communist coming on the cause it's it's Heinberg people to come out of
- 38:36the calls. He must. So Reagan was there and at the end of
- 38:45both of those those uh that he got a standing ovation. Plus behind him,
- 38:52you had all the Jerry Folwell and and um Reverend Kennedy from down in
- 38:57Fort Lauderdale. He was there and he's passed them. My father used to
- 39:00watch him on television, but he was That's when it changed. That's when
- 39:10I believe that's when it changed, and Reagan made this happen. You remember
- 39:15seventy six. It didn't happen because I think kind of started with Jesse Helms
- 39:21of all people, because he helped Reagan in seventy six. Reagan almost beat
- 39:25an incomebent president in eighty he had to think pretty well sewn up, and
- 39:31he bought all these folks in here, Richard Vigory, who was an analyst
- 39:37and a Republican person that kind of handicapped all these things. He said,
- 39:42Goldwater's carve out of that conservative libertarian would have never been a majority. It
- 39:51was only when they added the religious right that they made a majority. And
- 39:58it's still loosely there today. Now there's a lot of libertarians, like myself,
- 40:01they're a little uncomfortable with that. I feel that that the marriage of
- 40:07politics and religion has made politics more or made religion more political, and not
- 40:13politics more religious. Yeah, yeah, I can't. I can't argue with
- 40:16that, but I have you know, I have a lot of friend they
- 40:19were texting with me. They're very rare religious people. And I have one
- 40:23well known friend that he uh, he texted me and he says he couldn't
- 40:29vote for Trump again. He voted for and twice he couldn't do it again.
- 40:31Here's one of the things that's weird. And I remember this time.
- 40:34I was a young man, of course, but I remember this time.
- 40:36I'm going to my church. I grew up Baptist, and I remember as
- 40:39a child the sea change of messages always being um, your home faith,
- 40:47um, you bullwark your family at home, you teach how to pray,
- 40:51you teach how to respect you. You know, basically the ten Commandments,
- 40:53the Bible, biblical living. You chat at your home, shouldered your shoulder
- 40:58exactly. Um. And then when it came to the school thing, my
- 41:01church anyway, was a strong proponent of keeping religion out of school. Now
- 41:05this might say, I don't mean this to defend anybody, but hey,
- 41:07I grew up Southern Baptist. So what was said that from time to time,
- 41:10You don't know if that school teachers at Presbyterian. Well, when when
- 41:14I went to Rember, I was born in nineteen fifty, so through great
- 41:17school, we said the Lord's Prayer when we got there and didn't think a
- 41:23thing about it. And then Madeline Murray O'Hare came along and she challenged it
- 41:30and prevailed. And I'll tell you something. As somebody that wants to speak
- 41:35about the separation of church and state, she was a very poor spokesman.
- 41:39She was evil, she was mean, and she finally somebody killed her.
- 41:45I mean the kidnapped her and killed her. She was just she was on
- 41:47with Donahue and it's just she was so much. I just don't see how
- 41:52The easiest argument, isn't it that we're a country full of religions. If
- 41:55you and our constitution says you have to treat each one of them equally,
- 42:00Yeah, how could you possibly give proper equal uh distribution of each of those
- 42:06religions if you put it into a school set, you cannot. That's why
- 42:08that's at home and you remove that stuff from the school so the so the
- 42:12family can teach how you want. If you if you listen to this speech
- 42:16about James with James Robinson, he does not agree with what you do.
- 42:21I know, No, no, no, no, they don't because and
- 42:23frankly, the religious right reads religion as Christian, not as all religions.
- 42:28It's Christian, they don't. They don't want the muslim to have equal rights
- 42:31with the Christians. They don't want the Buddhists to have equal rights with Christians.
- 42:35I think the Jews are okay, aren't they Maybe, but a lot
- 42:38of Jews abortion is a part of there is a part of what they do,
- 42:42though, feel that that's their religious lighten this thing up. Yeah,
- 42:46yeah, yeah, sure. Goldwater was half Jewish. Yeah. And in
- 42:52Phoenix where he grew up, you know, he played a little golf and
- 42:54there was a country club that wouldn't allow Jews in the country club, and
- 43:00so he went there and he says, I'm half Jewish. Gonna blame nin

- 46:21Mansion is very charismatic individual but follows the damaging left wing ideology of Democrats.
- 46:25Well, when you get to be my you'll you'll understand that friendship means more
- 46:30than politics. And I have told Joe, and I've said it on this

- 46:44if if, if they put that Attorney general to be the Republican candidate,

- 47:20us talking there, and I set up hanging out with the big dogs,
- 47:23and then Brian had to get negative about it and start bad. You know,
- 47:29back off Bryant, you know, get a life. I mean not
- 47:34everything's about politics. Get a friend that's a Democrat, geez. But from
- 47:39the three or four six one zero on the text line as well, the
- 47:42core Republican Party is Christian fundamentalism and nationalism. You'll do what we believe in
- 47:46what we say the core Democratic Party as individual freedom. It's your fundamental right
- 47:51to live how you want unless it harms others. These things osculates. The
- 47:54libertarian position of living your life seems to be the most popular thing that the
- 47:59libertary roll out. They've never really get their stuff together as a party.
- 48:02Um, And because that's the most popular aspect. You have Conservatives that try
- 48:07to take a bite out of where the party of personal freedoms, and you
- 48:09have Democrats that I try to take a bite out of where the party of
- 48:12personal freedoms. There isn't a party of personal freedoms right now. I'm sorry,
- 48:15it doesn't exist. Libertarians would be against gun control Democrats or for it.
- 48:20Libertarians would be for the pro choice autonomy. Sure, yeah, So
- 48:27that that's the difference, and it's consistency. Actually, I mean, yeah,
- 48:30I mean, if you'd start talking about that type of thing. But
- 48:34I I just uh, I you know, I just enjoy I'm just trying
- 48:39to enjoy my life. I love politics. I love watching it. I
- 48:44mean, and I love moving the players around and handicapping the races and and
- 48:49it's, um, it's a lot of fun. I enjoy coming over here
- 48:52and talking to you guys. And right now, let me tell you.
- 48:54You don't believe who I'm drilling down on now. Oh yeah, I always
- 48:58love these who is it? Um, Philip Seymour Hoffman okay, and Truman
- 49:01Capo man Man that is uh. Truman Cappode is endlessly fascinating, well,
- 49:07just a fascinating individual. He was he was He was a guy that I
- 49:14mean, according to Hoffin, he could look in the Eyeline Hoffan didn't know
- 49:17him. I didn't know him, but he was. He said to do
- 49:22his voice for that movie was a lot more complicated than what you think.
- 49:27So you got a little feminine touch and you got a high pitched voice because
- 49:30he was very gay. But it didn't more, it didn't come that easy.
- 49:34It was very hard for him to do. Him to do Capodi,
- 49:37and he struggled with it. You know, he struggled. It was hard
- 49:40for him. And uh and you know, I get so upset that he
- 49:49was taken away from us. We had a when I owned a bookstore in
- 49:52Michigan, we had we would donate some of our We had this area in
- 49:55the bike that was we caught of the tea room. But it has some
- 49:58chairs and stuff like Okay, we would let book club use it from time
- 50:00to time after hours so they could go back there and have their meetings and
- 50:02stuff. And one of the book clubs that we gave the time to did
- 50:06a series on Truman Compodi's books. I think they did two of them,
- 50:08and then they would have a discussion and stuff like that. And I was
- 50:12I wasn't part of the book club, but I would always be there putting
- 50:14stuff inventory away or doing whatever. But I was. I learned more just
- 50:17about eavesdropping when their group and I went back and read a bunch of books.
- 50:21I'd read, um, what the Hell's Angels book? I think previously,
- 50:24and then I read more after after after that went in Just a great
- 50:28writer number one, and then when you learn about his life, just a
- 50:30fascinating person. He was Truman Campodi was. He had a on this book
- 50:37in cold Blood. He wanted the thing over with so he could finish the
- 50:42book. I e. He wanted them did right, I mean, I
- 50:47mean and he did not watch the execution like the movie said he did,
- 50:52but he uh And I don't think he fell in love with the Perry guy
- 50:57or whatever it was. But he did get into Perry, the the darker
- 51:01one, you know, the one that actually did the murder at the behest
- 51:05of the other guy, And he got into his head, you know,
- 51:10and he was able to get him to tell stuff that he wouldn't do.
- 51:14It was a gift and Capodi was a very interesting character. And if you're
- 51:22a Republican conservative, our our type, you probably wouldn't want to dig into
- 51:27this stuff. I'm also into Marlon Brando because of what he said about acting.
- 51:32We're all actors. Yeah, I'm a different person on the radio than
- 51:36I am in my apartment or when I'm down there working out. We're all
- 51:39actors, he said. When the salesman goes out and approach to somebody,
- 51:45they're they're acting. So anyway, that's the good stuff, everybody. We'll
- 51:51have Danny back soon. Last tax that came in. Let's see from the
- 51:53three through A four, three eight nine. Reason why all these WV Dems
- 51:57have become Republicans, it is because machines took over my jobs and unions lost
- 52:00their base. Yeah, I mean it might be a part of it.
- 52:02I don't know. Thanks for calling in this morning. Really appreciate all of
- 52:06the interaction in the comments, and appreciate Danny Jones coming in. Of course.
- 52:09Coming up next is going to be Happy Kircheville and talk Line at the
- 52:14top of the hour. I'll be back this afternoon at three or six with
- 52:15Dave Weekly four Hotline. Thanks again for listening. I'm Dale Cooper. This
