- 0:14Speaker 1: Hello and welcome back to the Spiritual Shit Show podcast.
- 0:17Speaker 1: My name is Julie Nguyen and this podcast is really all about sharing the journey of self-awareness, how sometimes it can feel messy and magical and confusing and exhilarating all of these things that make our soul slash, human journey normal.
- 0:39Speaker 1: This morning I was sitting on the front porch drinking my coffee and I was reflecting on my own life, tapping into the energies that are happening for me now and also, I will say, for me.
- 0:51Speaker 1: A lot of the times it's also collective, so it might be happening for you as well, and I just keep feeling it's time to purge, to really be deliberate about what it is that I want to box up and put in a memory box and what is it that I want to confidently step into.
- 1:14Speaker 1: This feels like this is the energy of autumn of the planet.
- 1:20Speaker 1: It feels like we are all being asked to be bold in our choices of who we are, what we want to create, how we individually want to live and ultimately, it's all coming back to the truth, the powerful truth of who we are.
- 1:44Speaker 1: As I was reflecting on all of this, my mind brought me back to the early 2000s, maybe 1990s, when blogs became a thing and I loved reading other people's stories.
- 1:59Speaker 1: It was like somebody's private journal was being shared online for me to read and I remember when I would read other people's blogs it was such an exhale because somebody was being vulnerable about the sticky, sometimes messy, parts of life.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Or I could see, in particular, women who were working through what it was like to be a mother or shift careers or grow within a marriage or dance with the ideas around self-image and self-love and changes and shifts, and it was all so captivating.
- 2:40Speaker 1: And I think a part of that captivation was because we love peeking into other people's lives.
- 2:47Speaker 1: But maybe it's also because it's easier to see the story in someone else than it is to slow down and feel our own.
- 2:57Speaker 1: And in that way we are mirrors for each other, reflections of what it means to be human.
- 3:07Speaker 1: And then here's the invitation what if we could turn that same lens inward?
- 3:16Speaker 1: That same lens that piques our curiosity when we're listening to other people's stories?
- 3:22Speaker 1: How can we flip that in so we can compassionately get curious about the truths and the stories that are quietly shaping our own lives?
- 3:33Speaker 1: I think being vulnerable is a superpower.
- 3:37Speaker 1: I think having the courage to say you know what I am working through this, or whoa, that is a trigger.
- 3:45Speaker 1: Or wow, I just had this huge aha moment about myself.
- 3:48Speaker 1: I think it's courageous, I think it's powerful and when we tenderly open our own truth, we also create space for others to do the same.
- 4:01Speaker 1: And as I was reflecting on all of this vulnerability and early blogs, I was wondering if social media traded that raw honesty for perfection, the polished feed, the I have my shit together, which is a lie.
- 4:21Speaker 1: Perfect body, the perfect smile, the perfect family, the perfect car, the perfect wardrobe, this now, altogether life always making your life look magical by your travels and your events and your parties hasn't really left space now for vulnerable conversations.
- 4:47Speaker 1: Where's the beauty in the messy middle?
- 4:52Speaker 1: I want that back, because when we don't share our stories, we can start to feel really alone in them and we start to wonder is it just me who feels insecure?
- 5:02Speaker 1: Is it just me who struggles with how I look and how I think and where I am in life?
- 5:07Speaker 1: Is it just me carrying the silent stories behind a smile and my latest Amazon purchase?
- 5:14Speaker 1: And the truth is no.
- 5:16Speaker 1: We are all carrying something.
- 5:21Speaker 1: Life is like your house and I don't know about you, but every day I am picking up something, I am putting something away, I am doing dishes, I am dusting, I am vacuuming.
- 5:32Speaker 1: My house always needs my attention.
- 5:35Speaker 1: There's always something to purge, dust, rearrange, donate and appreciate.
- 5:40Speaker 1: Our inner world is the same way.
- 5:44Speaker 1: There's always something to grieve, something to celebrate, something to work through, something to feel, something to release.
- 5:52Speaker 1: And just like you clean something every day, brushing your teeth, maybe hopping in the shower, you, your energetic self, needs that same kind of upkeep.
- 6:05Speaker 1: For me, some of my favorite daily energy practices are breath work, visual meditations.
- 6:10Speaker 1: I love the energy club on Monday nights.
- 6:13Speaker 1: It is such a great touch point for me.
- 6:16Speaker 1: I love doing voice notes with friends, which, honestly, is way better than any therapy I've ever had.
- 6:25Speaker 1: Journaling, going to the gym, taking a nap, sitting in the sun, walking at night with my daughter, morning coffee anything that's bringing me back to my center, anything that's bringing me back to my center.
- 6:50Speaker 1: So for you, what brings you back to your center?
- 6:52Speaker 1: Find the rituals, the daily upkeep that make your personal house, which is your physical body, body, feel like a home.
- 7:02Speaker 1: And remember to do that every day.
- 7:07Speaker 1: Our energy isn't a one and done.
- 7:09Speaker 1: It's not keep going, keep distracted, keep not looking at the inside of the house.
- 7:16Speaker 1: It's lifelong work, or shall I say, it's lifelong play, it's ongoing upkeep, it's pausing long enough to say where the hell did this come from, or fuck this again.
- 7:33Speaker 1: And then you choose to pick it up, put it in the dishwasher, let it go, box it or put it on the shelf.
- 7:44Speaker 1: And, as I said at the beginning, we're moving into autumn for most of us, which is a natural season for this kind of inner housekeeping.
- 7:58Speaker 1: What do we want to box up?
- 8:01Speaker 1: What do we need to dust and shine?
- 8:05Speaker 1: What's the new wardrobe, the new feel, the new look that we want to step into?
- 8:13Speaker 1: And all of this is the reminder that this is what it is to be human.
- 8:19Speaker 1: It's not perfect, it's not polished, it's not always I have my shit together, but it is beautiful and messy and honest and human.
- 8:37Speaker 1: Growing, shifting, purging, resting and celebrating along the way.
- 8:44Speaker 1: For me, I am going to do both.
- 8:47Speaker 1: I am going through my closet.
- 8:49Speaker 1: I'm going to think about what I have outgrown, what no longer suits me, who I've become.
- 8:56Speaker 1: I'm going to purge, I'm going to clean, I'm going to tidy up and I'm doing that in the internal.
- 9:07Speaker 1: Can I celebrate who I have become this past year, can I celebrate and honor and see the work that I have done and can I lovingly allow the stories, beliefs, habits that I have outgrown?
- 9:27Speaker 1: Can I box them, keeping the ones that are precious memories and donating the rest or trashing it straight into the trash?
- 9:38Speaker 1: So I'm going to be doing my inner housekeeping and my outer, and it's the remembrance that it all goes hand in hand as above so below, and hand as above so below.
- 9:58Speaker 1: The deeper we go within ourselves, the more our external world and experiences shift.
- 10:00Speaker 1: And if you want to join me in this practice, I would love to hear all about your ahas and shifts, things that you are donating.
- 10:08Speaker 1: And, most importantly, I want to hear you say and now I am choosing to wear my cloak of confidence, self-love, I'm allowing myself to use my voice, I am allowing myself to try new things, I am leaning deeper into love, I am opening up into the possibilities of having healthy partnerships, relationships, friendships.
- 10:35Speaker 1: I am now choosing to allow myself to dot, dot, dot, fill in those blanks and compassionately, lovingly, release the old All right, thank you for being here.
- 10:52Speaker 1: The old All right, thank you for being here.
- 10:58Speaker 1: All my love to you, to us, and may each of us continue to root deeper into the truth and the light of who we are Till next time.
