Transcript
- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome back to the Elon Musk Podcast.
- 0:05This is a show where we discuss the critical Crossroads, the
- 0:08Shape, SpaceX, Tesla X, The Boring Company, and Neuralink.
- 0:13I'm your host, Will Walden. In today's episode, we're going
- 0:17to be talking about Google's new ChatGPT competitor Gemini, also
- 0:25a competitor to Elon Musk's X dot AI.
- 0:29Google recently announced the launch of Gemini, its latest and
- 0:32most sophisticated artificial intelligence model, marking a
- 0:36huge step in the company's efforts to compete in the
- 0:39rapidly expanding field of generative AI.
- 0:42Gemini, described as Google's largest and most capable AI
- 0:45model, represents a new phase in AI development with the
- 0:48potential to enhance a wide array of Google's consumer apps
- 0:51and devices, including the Google Pixel 8 Chrome.
- 0:55Now this announcement is seen as Google's response to the
- 0:57unexpected success of Open AI's ChatGPT, and indicates a shift
- 1:02in the company's strategic direction towards more advanced
- 1:05AI integration across its products.
- 1:07Now Gemini stands out from its multimodal competitors.
- 1:12Gemini stands out for its multimodal capabilities, which
- 1:16means it's it can process and generate responses from various
- 1:19types of media inputs, including text, images, audio, video, and
- 1:24also programming code. This sets it apart from existing
- 1:28AI models, which typically focus on a single type of input.
- 1:32Sundar, the Google CEO, emphasized the significance of
- 1:36this development in a blog post, stating that this represents one
- 1:39of the most substantial science and engineering efforts
- 1:42undertaken by the company to date.
- 1:45Google's proprietary AI chatbot, Bard has been upgraded with a
- 1:48Gemini model and there are plans to integrate Gemini into widely
- 1:52used products like Google's search engine in the Chrome web
- 1:55browser. Gemini's launch also highlights
- 1:57Google's advancements in cloud computing as the model was
- 2:00trained using a new generation of cloud based processors.
- 2:04Now potentially this will boost the EI industry by making AI
- 2:07training more accessible than it is today.
- 2:10The Gemini model comes in three different versions, Nano,
- 2:13optimized for mobile devices and app developers, Pro, designed
- 2:17for a broad range of tasks and consumers, and Ultra, the most
- 2:21advanced version currently undergoing safety testing and
- 2:25Gemini. Ultra is being released
- 2:27gradually to select customers and partners for early feedback.
- 2:31It is undergoing third party safety evaluations, part of
- 2:34Google's commitment to responsible AI development.
- 2:37And Google claims that in testing Gemini outperformed
- 2:40other AI models and more than two dozen benchmarks commonly
- 2:43used in AI research, particularly in tasks involving
- 2:46reading comprehension, mathematical ability and multi
- 2:49step reasoning. The company also highlights
- 2:52Gemini's efficiency as it was trained on Google's own Tensor
- 2:55Processing Units, or TP US, making it faster and cheaper to
- 3:00run than previous models. And while Gemini's launches a
- 3:03significant development in Google's AI strategy, there's
- 3:06still concerns regarding the models potential to produce
- 3:08misleading results, a known issue with large language
- 3:11models. And Google has worked to improve
- 3:13the factuality of Gemini's responses, but acknowledges that
- 3:17these models can still produce incorrect information with high
- 3:20confidence. To address this, additional
- 3:22techniques are being used to improve the accuracy of
- 3:25responses in products like Bard. And the roll out of Gemini
- 3:28represents Google's larger vision for AI where a single
- 3:31underlying technology can be improved and then integrated
- 3:34across a range of products, enhancing user experiences in
- 3:38diverse ways. The models integration into
- 3:40Google Search engine, add products and Chrome browser is
- 3:44anticipated to significantly influence the company's future
- 3:46direction and capabilities, and Gemini's launch also signifies
- 3:50Google's ambition to reclaim its position as a leader in AI
- 3:54innovation. Particularly after being
- 3:56perceived as caught off guard by the rapid success of Open AI's
- 3:59ChatGPT, Google's approach to AI development remains cautious yet
- 4:03optimistic with a focus on ensuring the safety and
- 4:06responsibility of its AI systems.
- 4:08Amidst the landscape of competitive AI development,
- 4:11Google's strategic positioning of Gemini is a deep commitment
- 4:14to enhancing user interaction across its vast network of
- 4:17services. And the multimodal nature of
- 4:20Gemini enables a more intuitive and versatile user experience by
- 4:24integrating various forms of media input.
- 4:25Gemini is positioning to revolutionize how users interact
- 4:29with their technology that they're used to now like
- 4:31google.com, their phones and also their assistants the
- 4:35bridging the gaps between different forms of digital
- 4:37communication. This is particularly significant
- 4:40for mobile and web applications though, where seamless
- 4:43integration of various media types can greatly enhance
- 4:46functionality and user engagement.
- 4:49And the introduction of Gemini suggests A strategic pivot for
- 4:52Google in the realm of AI and also in the terms of search,
- 4:55signifying a shift from more traditional singular focus on
- 4:59web-based services to a more integrated approach.
- 5:02This shift is expected to have significant implications for the
- 5:05future of Google's product development and user experience
- 5:08strategies. And by leveraging Gemini's
- 5:10advanced capabilities, Google is poised to offer more
- 5:13personalized, context aware services across all of its
- 5:17platforms, potentially transforming the way you use
- 5:20your search, interact, and consume digital content now.
- 5:24Furthermore, Gemini's development aligns with Google's
- 5:27broader vision of harnessing AI from more efficient in
- 5:30intelligent computing. The use of Google's Advanced
- 5:33Tensor Processing units in training Gemini underscores the
- 5:37company's emphasis on not only advancing AI capabilities, but
- 5:41also on optimizing the efficiency and speed of AI
- 5:45processes. This focus on efficiency as
- 5:48crucial as it addresses one of the key challenges in the AI
- 5:51field, the high computational cost of training and running
- 5:54sophisticated models. And by improving efficiency,
- 5:58Google not only enhances its own AI capabilities, but also
- 6:01contributes to the AI ecosystem by setting new standards and
- 6:05computational efficiency and sustainability.
- 6:08And the release of Gemini, therefore, is not just about
- 6:11competing with other AI models like Open AIS ChatGPT, and GBT
- 6:154, but it's also Google's testament to advancing AI
- 6:18technology in a more responsible and efficient manner than other
- 6:22companies. And they could potentially
- 6:24reshape the landscape of AI applications and could be a
- 6:28brand new era for Google in its pursuit of cutting edge AI
- 6:33solutions. Thank you so much for tuning
