- 0:00Speaker 1: Rewind this. is, I mean, I feel lucky.
- 0:20Speaker 2: And the video is amazing, by the way.
- 0:22Speaker 1: Oh, well, thank you. I wish I could take credit
- 0:23Speaker 1: for that, too, but I sure did look pretty.
- 0:26Speaker 2: But you were going through a box of all your
- 0:28Speaker 2: old stuff from 2003 and 2004 and almost laughing at yourself, like, oh,
- 0:32Speaker 2: my gosh.
- 0:32Speaker 1: But we all do that. I didn't even remember some
- 0:34Speaker 1: of those pictures. They literally didn't show me what was
- 0:37Speaker 1: in the box when I sat down. Those were genuine
- 0:39Speaker 1: in the video.
- 0:39Speaker 2: Real reaction.
- 0:40Speaker 1: They would not tell me what was in it. They said,
- 0:41Speaker 1: open it on camera. And I went and I was like, oh,
- 0:44Speaker 1: my God, I don't remember that. But I can still
- 0:46Speaker 1: fit in that shirt. So... Do you keep in touch
- 0:50Speaker 1: with anybody from the Idol days? I mean, we do,
- 0:52Speaker 1: and I found it surprising. Ruben and I have stayed
- 0:54Speaker 1: in touch. We toured together. We did a show on
- 0:56Speaker 1: Broadway in 2018 for Christmas, like a little Christmas show.
- 1:00Speaker 1: But we have a text thread with all our season's
- 1:03Speaker 1: finalists that we do happy birthdays and that kind of thing.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Folks have spread to the wind. But our season was very,
- 1:09Speaker 1: very tight-knit. We're the only season that lived in a
- 1:11Speaker 1: house together. And it also was not a.
- 1:16Speaker 1: It wasn't as highly produced back then. It was still
- 1:19Speaker 1: very new. I don't even think they expected to get
- 1:22Speaker 1: a second season. They got renewed. They were excited. And bam,
- 1:25Speaker 1: we got thrown in. And we also didn't know what
- 1:28Speaker 1: to expect. There were no stakes. We didn't realize that
- 1:32Speaker 1: whoever won or came in second was going to completely
- 1:35Speaker 1: change their lives. So we all went in thinking, this
- 1:38Speaker 1: is going to be a fun thing to do. We're
- 1:39Speaker 1: going to have memories. And then we're going to go
- 1:40Speaker 1: home and go back to our regular jobs. Wow. So
- 1:43Speaker 1: our season is very tight-knit. I've been surprised to learn
- 1:46Speaker 1: that a lot of the other seasons don't really stay
- 1:48Speaker 1: in touch with each other, which is sad. It's just
- 1:50Speaker 1: such a huge part of our lives, though.
- 1:52Speaker 3: Yeah, you guys bonded. I mean, you know, we saw
- 1:55Speaker 3: that playing out. Like, you looked like you had such
- 1:57Speaker 3: a beautiful bond with Reuben.
- 1:59Speaker 1: Absolutely. And all of it. I mean, I don't know
- 2:01Speaker 1: if they cry when people get cut now, but we
- 2:03Speaker 1: really got upset when someone would get cut and go
- 2:06Speaker 1: home as much as we were excited we weren't going home.
- 2:08Speaker 1: We didn't want to see anybody go.
- 2:09Speaker 2: When you came in second and Ruben won.
- 2:12Speaker 1: What? Don't remind me. No, but you hugged him as
- 2:15Speaker 1: if you won. And I remember watching going, man, he
- 2:18Speaker 1: wants to beat him up. He's not that happy. Well,
- 2:20Speaker 1: that's a fight I would not pick right there. But
- 2:25Speaker 1: it is. No, I was. And actually, I had seen
- 2:27Speaker 1: the card backstage before we walked on stage. I had happened.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Ryan was looking at it and I'd happened to glance
- 2:32Speaker 1: over and I saw the name was longer than mine.
- 2:35Speaker 1: And so I actually knew right before that Ruben had won.
- 2:39Speaker 1: And so if you watch the video, I am looking
- 2:42Speaker 1: at him when the announcement's made because I just wanted
- 2:44Speaker 1: to see his face when he won and see his reaction.
- 2:47Speaker 1: And we still, we're brothers.
- 2:49Speaker 3: Right.
- 2:50Speaker 1: Talk all the time. His birthday was last week. We
- 2:52Speaker 1: talked and he's older than me, just so we're clear.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Please make a note of it. Make sure people remember.
- 2:59Speaker 3: Did you guys do a little, you did a reunion recently, right?
- 3:03Speaker 1: Yeah, he did. And that's honestly, I have to give
- 3:05Speaker 1: Ruben a lot of credit for me feeling like I
- 3:07Speaker 1: wanted to do music again. I had been stepped away
- 3:10Speaker 1: and Ruben was going to do a 20th anniversary tour
- 3:13Speaker 1: of his own. And he said, why don't you come
- 3:14Speaker 1: out with me? And I said, I started looking at
- 3:18Speaker 1: the timeline. I only have a few more years before
- 3:20Speaker 1: Parker's graduated. And I said, okay, okay. I went out
- 3:23Speaker 1: on the road with him. Didn't expect to love it
- 3:26Speaker 1: as much as I did.
- 3:26Speaker 3: And I.
- 3:28Speaker 1: I absolutely love sharing the stage with him. And we
- 3:30Speaker 1: had such a great time. And I thought, okay, I
- 3:33Speaker 1: think I want to do this again. And speaking of tour,
- 3:35Speaker 1: you're going to be going on tour. I am.
- 3:37Speaker 2: In fact, you're going to be in our area February 25th, Fairfield, Connecticut.
- 3:41Speaker 2: February 27th, Inglewood, New Jersey. February 28th, Newton, New Jersey.
- 3:46Speaker 2: And you're doing a Vegas residency too?
- 3:48Speaker 1: I am, yes. I've decided to just come back and
- 3:50Speaker 1: just completely make myself available. wear myself out in the
- 3:54Speaker 1: first year.
- 3:55Speaker 3: Do it all.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Completely burn out. Yes, everything. So yeah, my first, I
- 3:57Speaker 1: did it. We did a Christmas show in Vegas in July.
- 4:01Speaker 1: Just the Christmas in July fun thing because I do
- 4:03Speaker 1: love the Christmas stuff. And it went very well. So
- 4:06Speaker 1: they asked us to come back this Christmas for a week.
- 4:08Speaker 1: We're going to be a week in Vegas in Harrah's
- 4:11Speaker 1: December 18th through the 23rd.
- 4:14Speaker 2: You're correct.
- 4:15Speaker 3: 23rd.
- 4:15Speaker 1: Thank you. Someone's got to get the notes. I'll show
- 4:18Speaker 1: up when they book my flight. And then yeah, my
- 4:21Speaker 1: first ever, well, first ever, my first solo tour in
- 4:25Speaker 1: 15 years I've been on the road with Ruben but
- 4:28Speaker 1: I have not been out on my own until those
- 4:31Speaker 1: dates that you just mentioned.
- 4:32Speaker 2: We play you every Christmas, by the way. We play
- 4:34Speaker 2: O Holy Night.
- 4:35Speaker 3: We played it this morning.
- 4:36Speaker 1: We played it this morning, actually. Oh, did you?
- 4:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I said Clay Aiken's going to be here later,
- 4:39Speaker 2: and we started playing O Holy Night.
- 4:40Speaker 1: Listen, that's what people know me for. But now you
- 4:44Speaker 1: can play Rewind instead. Exactly. Because it's a banger, and
- 4:47Speaker 1: I have not had anything like that for you to
- 4:50Speaker 1: play in almost 20 years. You're a cool dad, by
- 4:52Speaker 1: the way. You said banger. Oh no, he would, I
- 4:54Speaker 1: probably should not have. Actually, as I was saying, honestly,
- 4:57Speaker 1: I'm telling you the truth, as it came out of
- 4:58Speaker 1: my mouth, I thought, did I use that right? Because
- 5:02Speaker 1: I think it's, I think, did I, I'm looking over,
- 5:04Speaker 1: I'm looking over at the very young people who, and
- 5:07Speaker 1: she's laughing, so maybe I didn't use it right. Is
- 5:09Speaker 1: it right?
- 5:10Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 5:10Speaker 1: But what, people all say bop too, right? Yeah. Is
- 5:12Speaker 1: that more, is that better? Is bop better than banger? Oh,
- 5:16Speaker 1: it's the same. It's a bop. I sound so young.
- 5:19Speaker 2: A clay bop, a clay bop.
- 5:22Speaker 1: Well, Clay, last question. New album coming out? Coming out
- 5:25Speaker 1: with a new song? Yeah, comes out on Friday of
- 5:26Speaker 1: next week. It's called Rewind. Called Rewind. It's a lot
- 5:31Speaker 1: of it is, it's very personal to me. I mean,
- 5:35Speaker 1: I know everybody says that when they come and talk
- 5:36Speaker 1: to you. It's my most personal album. But all of
- 5:38Speaker 1: my albums that I did before were sort of handed
- 5:40Speaker 1: to me by the label. The songs that I got
- 5:43Speaker 1: for my first album, I had within five days after
- 5:45Speaker 1: Idol was over. They were chosen for me. concepts were
- 5:48Speaker 1: given to me. This time I got to sit down
- 5:51Speaker 1: with writers and say, here's what I want to say.
- 5:53Speaker 1: And so a lot of it's kind of molded around Rewind.
- 5:57Speaker 1: That song kind of guided our direction for everything, but
- 6:00Speaker 1: it's about stepping into something you haven't done in a while.
- 6:04Speaker 1: It's about being happy for the experiences you have had.
- 6:07Speaker 1: There are songs on there about, you know, being nervous
- 6:10Speaker 1: about what might come next. So it's all really inspired
- 6:16Speaker 1: by Rewind the song itself. And so we thought, let's
- 6:18Speaker 1: just call it that. Plus, I'm getting old. My memory's bad.
- 6:20Speaker 1: It's easier to call the tour Rewind, the album Rewind,
- 6:23Speaker 1: the song Rewind. Let's just make it easier. Don't forget that.
- 6:26Speaker 3: Way, yeah.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Christine.
- 6:27Speaker 3: Yeah, seriously, you look like you're in a beautiful, happy space,
- 6:31Speaker 3: you know, and we're just so happy to see you again.
- 6:33Speaker 1: Well, thank you very much.
- 6:34Speaker 3: Thank you for coming in to visit us.
- 6:36Speaker 1: Thank you for having me.
- 6:37Speaker 2: Thank you, everybody.
- 6:37Speaker 1: It's back and better than ever. Yeah. All right, Light FM.
- 6:40Speaker 2: Party.
