- 0:04Speaker 1: Some of the content of Patriots Unfiltered may not be
- 0:06Speaker 1: suitable for all audiences. Listener discretion is advised. The world's
- 0:17Speaker 1: welcome to Patriot's Unfiltered. Are we going? There's no little
- 0:27Speaker 1: thing in the middle? Okay, I guess, welcome to uh,
- 0:32Speaker 1: Patriots Unfiltered. We are alive from Gillette's Stadium. It is
- 0:36Speaker 1: Thursday here, and uh, it's Deuce, it's Evan, it's Paul
- 0:41Speaker 1: still in the middle of lunch, it's myself, and it's
- 0:46Speaker 1: Faith in the boothe Yeah, you're gonna do this solo,
- 0:51Speaker 1: Faith answering phones, the whole thing. Okay, all right, she's
- 0:56Speaker 1: got a smile on. Now let's see what happens in
- 0:58Speaker 1: twenty minutes. Um, all right, So what are we doing here, guys?
- 1:02Speaker 1: I mean we're getting rip for the draft. It's two
- 1:04Speaker 1: weeks away. So you can feel the excitement. Believe we
- 1:07Speaker 1: feel the excitement two weeks. I don't know actually if
- 1:09Speaker 1: you can feel the excitement, because I feel I think
- 1:11Speaker 1: this is the part where you get a little bit
- 1:12Speaker 1: into draft fatigue. People might have noticed last week Evan
- 1:15Speaker 1: got a little of an edge to him. You know,
- 1:17Speaker 1: you just last week our last show, I apologize last
- 1:20Speaker 1: month since he was tired. He was a little salty. Um,
- 1:25Speaker 1: you know, I it's silly season. But I think we're
- 1:29Speaker 1: probably on the verge of the next you know, ten
- 1:31Speaker 1: days that there that there might be some not even
- 1:33Speaker 1: Patriots specific, but maybe some final moves before the draft.
- 1:37Speaker 1: Is his team shot out Aaron Rodgers, perhaps locking down
- 1:40Speaker 1: stuff like that, you know, any trades if anything, if
- 1:42Speaker 1: you want a draft pick, now's the time. So I
- 1:45Speaker 1: think a little bit just waiting to see what's going
- 1:46Speaker 1: to happen here to set it, set the stage. Yeah,
- 1:48Speaker 1: I think the preparation part the hay is in the
- 1:52Speaker 1: barn when it comes to film study. Our big boards
- 1:56Speaker 1: I think are going to be out next week. So
- 1:57Speaker 1: we've done all of the prep pork, and now it's
- 2:00Speaker 1: just to calm before the storm and figuring out. I
- 2:03Speaker 1: think the big thing that Mike just said is now's
- 2:07Speaker 1: the time where teams recognize that maybe they want to
- 2:11Speaker 1: trade up, or they want to trade back or whatever,
- 2:14Speaker 1: and uh, you know, some of those trades do come now?
- 2:17Speaker 1: Do happen now? Now that teams are getting in the
- 2:20Speaker 1: room and really solidifying their boards, And now's the time
- 2:24Speaker 1: where they might say well, if we want to get
- 2:27Speaker 1: our guy, we're going to have to move up five spots,
- 2:29Speaker 1: so we'll do it now instead of doing it on
- 2:32Speaker 1: draft night. But I think the other big draft nugget
- 2:35Speaker 1: that's really been circulating all the big Jay's now at
- 2:39Speaker 1: this point have basically penciled in Bryce Young to the
- 2:41Speaker 1: Carolina Panthers with the number one pick, which opens up
- 2:45Speaker 1: a domino effect really more in the top five than anything.
- 2:48Speaker 1: But where does Strout end up, pal hide Is Levis
- 2:51Speaker 1: and Richardson end up going as well? That really seems
- 2:55Speaker 1: like the best kept secret in the league right now.
- 2:59Speaker 1: Made that move while ago, and they never really came
- 3:01Speaker 1: out and said this is why, you know, we assume
- 3:04Speaker 1: it's for a quarterback, but they never mentioned is this
- 3:07Speaker 1: people saying that they're hearing or has the Panthers actually said, yeah,
- 3:11Speaker 1: we're gonna take Young hearing yeah here, Yeah, the Panthers
- 3:15Speaker 1: haven't said that. Panthers haven't said it, which I think
- 3:17Speaker 1: like the league wouldn't would want like wouldn't like that, right, Yeah,
- 3:20Speaker 1: but sometimes teams just say it yeah yeah, yeah, now
- 3:24Speaker 1: I think it. I think it has happened a little
- 3:26Speaker 1: bit recently, but it used to happen all the time
- 3:28Speaker 1: because they would make the deal, right, you know, because
- 3:31Speaker 1: you had to sign the guy. I feel like I
- 3:32Speaker 1: remember Mario Williams. That's a little bit. I mean, I
- 3:34Speaker 1: don't know if that's more recent than you're talking about,
- 3:36Speaker 1: but that was one where it was just like, yep,
- 3:38Speaker 1: we're taking him. I think that came out maybe a
- 3:40Speaker 1: few days before that did come out, and I think, um,
- 3:43Speaker 1: you know, in general, you know, um, the first pick,
- 3:47Speaker 1: but this one, I think, you know, everybody seems to
- 3:51Speaker 1: be an agreement that it's Bryce Young. So and I
- 3:54Speaker 1: see the Patriots have just made an announcement, Fred, if
- 3:57Speaker 1: if you care to go ahead of momentum. Yeah, the
- 4:01Speaker 1: finalists for the twenty twenty three Patriots Hall and Fame
- 4:04Speaker 1: Induction have been announced Logan Mankins, Bill Parcels, and Mike
- 4:07Speaker 1: Rabel in alphabetical order, not in terms of votes MPV so, um,
- 4:12Speaker 1: when is voting open? Oh uh? For the fans, this
- 4:16Speaker 1: information is not readily available to me. Shortly, I gotta
- 4:20Speaker 1: pull it up. I gotta pull it up. But it
- 4:22Speaker 1: is a fan vote. The fans decide, So the committee,
- 4:24Speaker 1: which is you guys, decided and I'm delaying here as
- 4:28Speaker 1: I pull up, Yeah, that was not my list. It
- 4:33Speaker 1: wasn't your list. No, really, we were wondering that mine
- 4:36Speaker 1: was Mankins. No, mine was Rabel Mankins. Welker good Fred.
- 4:43Speaker 1: I'm very confused, and I asked Paul this before we
- 4:47Speaker 1: started recording, because you guys are obviously in the room
- 4:49Speaker 1: and we're not. I'm very confused about how Welker can't
- 4:55Speaker 1: get on the ballot. It it just doesn't really add
- 4:58Speaker 1: up to me. I think Parcels knocked him off. There's
- 5:01Speaker 1: a lot of old guys in the room, which you're
- 5:03Speaker 1: not complaining about, because you need that perspective. I didn't
- 5:06Speaker 1: want to say it because I'm I'm not going to
- 5:08Speaker 1: name a name, but one person in his argument for
- 5:11Speaker 1: Bill Parcels one of the one of the things that
- 5:14Speaker 1: he was, you know, saying that he should be on
- 5:17Speaker 1: because he stopped in the parking lot once and talked
- 5:20Speaker 1: to me for ten minutes. I am not kidding. I'm
- 5:23Speaker 1: not kidding that people should lose his vote that person.
- 5:26Speaker 1: I mean, I said it out loud enough for people here.
- 5:29Speaker 1: I said, so what that was, Mike? So what are
- 5:33Speaker 1: personal anecdotes are common? I mean, playing to bring up
- 5:36Speaker 1: with why I'm voting for a certain person. No, um,
- 5:39Speaker 1: And it's an exaggeration to what he didn't say, that's
- 5:43Speaker 1: why he's voting for That was one of the real
- 5:45Speaker 1: I said one. Personal. Personal anecdotes definitely a part of it,
- 5:51Speaker 1: and I don't really see much of Well, I think
- 5:53Speaker 1: it's ridiculous if that's why he voted for him. I
- 5:56Speaker 1: agree with Fred. I don't think that's why. That wasn't
- 5:58Speaker 1: the whole thing. No, but one of in his you know,
- 6:01Speaker 1: soliloquy about why Parcels should be one of the nominees,
- 6:06Speaker 1: he said, you know, and just to show you what
- 6:08Speaker 1: kind of guy is. And you know, I was in
- 6:10Speaker 1: there and he stopped and he talked to me. We
- 6:12Speaker 1: talked for ten minutes about football. So what so what?
- 6:18Speaker 1: I just I just think that was an anecdote about
- 6:21Speaker 1: a guy you don't like. Yeah, I think there's a
- 6:23Speaker 1: lot of anecdotes that I would say, so what about
- 6:25Speaker 1: it and be honest with you? And I like Bill Parcels.
- 6:29Speaker 1: I like, but I don't think he should be in
- 6:30Speaker 1: a team team the Patriots, specifically Hall of Fame. That's it.
- 6:36Speaker 1: I like him, I like think he was a great coach.
- 6:38Speaker 1: So what I can't understand. And I have no problem
- 6:41Speaker 1: with Parcels. We've talked about this many times. We don't
- 6:43Speaker 1: need to I did not have Parcels on my ballot
- 6:46Speaker 1: this time. I had Welker to me, I like, this
- 6:49Speaker 1: is to me the no brainer of all no brainers.
- 6:51Speaker 1: But I guess I'm wrong again. I'm on my island
- 6:54Speaker 1: because I can't even get him on the finalist ballot.
- 6:56Speaker 1: I can't even get him there. I wanted him, like,
- 6:58Speaker 1: I don't even think it's a close other candidate like
- 7:01Speaker 1: to him. That's how obvious I think it is. But
- 7:04Speaker 1: clearly I'm wrong, well not wrong, clearly no one agrees
- 7:07Speaker 1: with me, you know, because I'm there was like I said,
- 7:10Speaker 1: I'd say, I think many people that didn't have ourselves
- 7:15Speaker 1: on the ballot, which you been strongly endoyed. Would you
- 7:17Speaker 1: say sixty percent of the people in the room or
- 7:20Speaker 1: over fifty years old? Yeah, yeah, well yeah, but I
- 7:26Speaker 1: don't really know what that happen. And I think a
- 7:28Speaker 1: lot of them were there when when Parcelves was there,
- 7:30Speaker 1: and I think they have they have this fondness for
- 7:33Speaker 1: the grandeur of Bill Parsels his where I don't think
- 7:36Speaker 1: that most of those guys covered parcelves. No, I mean,
- 7:39Speaker 1: I don't. I think there's I think enough he's a
- 7:42Speaker 1: handful that did. But I think most of those guys
- 7:46Speaker 1: or older, like like I'm over fifty, I didn't cover parselves. Yeah,
- 7:50Speaker 1: but you were, you were around that, you were a
- 7:52Speaker 1: fan of the team. Well I would. My guess is
- 7:56Speaker 1: like Phil Perry was. He probably doesn't even remember. Well,
- 7:59Speaker 1: he's a little younger, but I'll guarantee you Mike Reese does. Well,
- 8:02Speaker 1: he was covered, didn't cover He didn't cover Bill parcels.
- 8:05Speaker 1: When did I hire him? Well, I don't know. Maybe
- 8:06Speaker 1: he did cover Bill parcels. No, I think he No,
- 8:08Speaker 1: he came out, he came after voting is open now
- 8:12Speaker 1: too real quick? Patriots dot Com back slash Hall of
- 8:15Speaker 1: Fame through May second. No, it's just I don't know.
- 8:17Speaker 1: I just I think there's some I think something going
- 8:21Speaker 1: on that I don't really understand. Evan and I talked
- 8:23Speaker 1: about it a little bit off the air, And because
- 8:25Speaker 1: parcels get a lot of votes, that's why Welker's not No,
- 8:27Speaker 1: but there's something about what so, so why did Welker
- 8:30Speaker 1: get knocked off? It's my sen I think there's there's
- 8:33Speaker 1: something about Welker that people are I don't know if
- 8:36Speaker 1: it's the drop, and I think, you know, the way
- 8:39Speaker 1: have to explain that because they think everybody knows what
- 8:41Speaker 1: I'm talking about, Ryan thing. I personally I would have
- 8:46Speaker 1: said what you said, But I'm glad you said it
- 8:48Speaker 1: in not me, because I understand that that makes me
- 8:51Speaker 1: sound like it just a little bit. But I think
- 8:54Speaker 1: the biggest thing to me with Welker is that, and
- 8:56Speaker 1: this happens with all halls of Fame, not just the
- 8:59Speaker 1: Patriots All Fame, but the Pro Football Hall of Fame
- 9:01Speaker 1: on down, is that the experience that each reporter had
- 9:07Speaker 1: with the person that we're discussing ends up outweighing what
- 9:12Speaker 1: the person actually irrelevant. But this is why I made
- 9:15Speaker 1: the point. I don't think a lot of those guys
- 9:17Speaker 1: had interaction with Parcels. I'm not saying Parcels. I'm saying
- 9:20Speaker 1: that the media that was here, which I think was
- 9:23Speaker 1: a ninety percent of the people in the room that
- 9:25Speaker 1: vote at this point, covered Wes Welker. And I think
- 9:28Speaker 1: Wes Welker was kind of a dick. I think he
- 9:31Speaker 1: was kind of an a hole. And I say I
- 9:33Speaker 1: didn't he could be a little bit. I hear what
- 9:37Speaker 1: Evans saying. So I didn't cover Welker, but I covered
- 9:41Speaker 1: Edelman and I will never forget that. In Edelman's retirement
- 9:45Speaker 1: press conference with the media, he apologized to the media
- 9:50Speaker 1: for being a dan. Yeah, and he could and from
- 9:55Speaker 1: everything that everything like him to everything that I had
- 9:58Speaker 1: heard from but that we're here for. Welker said that
- 10:01Speaker 1: Welker was basically comparable with the media to Edelman, and
- 10:05Speaker 1: I would agree with that. And if I if you
- 10:07Speaker 1: thought one was, I would agree with right. So I
- 10:09Speaker 1: personally think that the people in that room put personal
- 10:14Speaker 1: feelings too much invested. And this is not just this room,
- 10:17Speaker 1: this is every room that votes on these types of things.
- 10:20Speaker 1: And I'm with fred. I don't think that how Wes
- 10:23Speaker 1: Welker spoke to the media or when you know, Julian Edelman,
- 10:27Speaker 1: I used to get mad when people would step on
- 10:29Speaker 1: his on his shoes at his locker, like he's going
- 10:32Speaker 1: into the Patriots all fame, He's getting a red jacket.
- 10:34Speaker 1: I don't know, evidently not this year. Well, it's none
- 10:38Speaker 1: of that stuff should matter, is my point, because but
- 10:42Speaker 1: I think there's only so many ways that you can
- 10:45Speaker 1: divvy these guys up, and how do you make a
- 10:46Speaker 1: comparison between an offensive guard and a wide receiver. I mean,
- 10:50Speaker 1: if you're a stats guy, you're going to clearly say
- 10:52Speaker 1: the wide receiver. So no, my point that was just
- 10:54Speaker 1: I think everybody is going to bring personal things to it,
- 10:56Speaker 1: and I correct for these three guys. I bring my
- 10:59Speaker 1: own personal things to it as a fan. As you know,
- 11:01Speaker 1: I come from the perspective as a kid who is
- 11:03Speaker 1: like writing The Prime fourteen fifteen years old. When Bill
- 11:05Speaker 1: Parcels was hired, I sat through two win seasons here
- 11:08Speaker 1: I looked at the Patriots is not even a legit
- 11:10Speaker 1: NFL franchise. So my experience as a fan I wasn't
- 11:13Speaker 1: a personal interaction with Bill Parcels, but that's how I
- 11:16Speaker 1: view him. Mike Vrabel that I mean, I'm a Mike
- 11:18Speaker 1: Vabel guy in this group. I think it's you know,
- 11:20Speaker 1: he needs to get in. I think he's one of
- 11:22Speaker 1: those core guys that define this early part of the dynasty.
- 11:24Speaker 1: But that's a large part of the fan speaking. I
- 11:26Speaker 1: think it's the player. How what was his performance and
- 11:29Speaker 1: what was his contribution to the team. Those are to
- 11:32Speaker 1: me and the Team Hall of Fight. But if you're
- 11:34Speaker 1: going to say that Welker is losing because of being
- 11:38Speaker 1: difficult with the media, these single biggest, the one in
- 11:43Speaker 1: the side of the media was Mike Vrabel and now
- 11:47Speaker 1: he is. He's now in his seventh trip YEP to
- 11:51Speaker 1: the to the finalist stage. And really none of the writers,
- 11:56Speaker 1: all of which have covered Mike Rabel, have held his
- 12:00Speaker 1: sort of Um. I always loved it surtly. This is
- 12:05Speaker 1: a great word. He was difficult for the sake of
- 12:07Speaker 1: being he was. He's a ball busting wise, which is
- 12:11Speaker 1: exactly why I loved him, right, Fred, Just that's exactly
- 12:15Speaker 1: what Mike Rabel was. If you took it seriously, and
- 12:17Speaker 1: you took it to heart, go home and you'd beat
- 12:20Speaker 1: you'd feel sorry for yourself. I knew it wasn't serious.
- 12:24Speaker 1: I knew he was joking around. I learned that very
- 12:26Speaker 1: early on with him, and we had a great relationship.
- 12:28Speaker 1: But that's not why I think he should be in
- 12:30Speaker 1: the Hall of Fame. Because I liked him is not
- 12:33Speaker 1: why I think he should be in the Hall of Fame.
- 12:35Speaker 1: The difference between Welker and Vybel is obviously the rings,
- 12:39Speaker 1: and I think that that's what gets vybeled over the
- 12:41Speaker 1: top of that. But with West, he doesn't have the rings.
- 12:46Speaker 1: He has this little thing with the media that maybe
- 12:48Speaker 1: exists too. You gotta say the drop too. I mean,
- 12:52Speaker 1: that's just I think hold out against him. But you know,
- 12:54Speaker 1: I just think those things overshadow the incredible production that
- 12:58Speaker 1: even when you go back now and look paired to
- 13:00Speaker 1: Julian Edelman, it's like, holy crap, you forget how good
- 13:03Speaker 1: West Welker really was, how how productive. And Paul made
- 13:06Speaker 1: a great point in the room. Thank you Fred. Uh
- 13:08Speaker 1: you know tell snow the point of you know, everybody
- 13:12Speaker 1: you can say, oh, Brady made Welker in the year
- 13:15Speaker 1: that Brady was hurt. In O eight with Matt Castle,
- 13:19Speaker 1: Welker still had We still had over a thousand yards
- 13:23Speaker 1: with Matt Castle as his quarterback. Wes Welker was the
- 13:27Speaker 1: slot I want to say, he caught one hundred and
- 13:29Speaker 1: thirteen passes in OH seven. He caught one hundred and
- 13:31Speaker 1: twelve in eight. Yeah, with Castle, it was something like that.
- 13:35Speaker 1: He was the slot machine. They called him Slotty Pippens.
- 13:38Speaker 1: If I if I could have just pound the table
- 13:40Speaker 1: though I never heard that, I kind of to me
- 13:44Speaker 1: Mike Vrabel embodies so much of what made this team
- 13:47Speaker 1: great from being you know, kind of that proverbial cast off.
- 13:50Speaker 1: And I don't even want to call him a cast
- 13:51Speaker 1: off because when I talked to him directly for that podcast,
- 13:54Speaker 1: he you know, he was going to have opportunities in Pittsburgh,
- 13:57Speaker 1: but here was like, here's a chance to start. So
- 13:59Speaker 1: he's kind of one of those guys, Hey, when somebody
- 14:01Speaker 1: else doesn't need him, we're gonna make him into a star.
- 14:03Speaker 1: But the versatility to play, I mean two thousand and five,
- 14:05Speaker 1: he moves inside and then he caught ten touchdowns. I
- 14:08Speaker 1: mean it's just ten for ten crazy. I mean, just
- 14:13Speaker 1: I don't know that that to me, just and I
- 14:16Speaker 1: caught them all in the end zone. Fred, So if
- 14:17Speaker 1: he was going to catch him, they were gonna be touchdown.
- 14:20Speaker 1: I'm just saying that his ten receptions were all touchdown.
- 14:22Speaker 1: But big plays. You can remember big plays in Super
- 14:24Speaker 1: Bowl thirty six. I can remember Super just off the
- 14:26Speaker 1: top of my head, thirty nine big sacks. You know,
- 14:28Speaker 1: he just he was a big player in big games.
- 14:30Speaker 1: He did whatever they needed. He was consistent. You'll never
- 14:32Speaker 1: get me to say a bad word about the first
- 14:36Speaker 1: thing you said about him to me is why he's
- 14:38Speaker 1: a slam dunk, is the versatility. When he moved inside,
- 14:42Speaker 1: it was because of injury. Yeah, it wasn't like let's
- 14:45Speaker 1: try Mike Rabel inside just to see. He did it
- 14:48Speaker 1: out of necessity and he played really well inside. I
- 14:51Speaker 1: really hope he's the pick. Yeah. He played every position
- 14:55Speaker 1: at linebacker, he played defensive end when they needed. I mean,
- 14:58Speaker 1: like he was so first, little in and then he's
- 15:01Speaker 1: in the biggest games he played the best. Yeah, I
- 15:04Speaker 1: mean he was just he was just such you know,
- 15:06Speaker 1: so you look at contribution to the team, Oh my god,
- 15:10Speaker 1: it's out of this world with he's a slam dug.
- 15:13Speaker 1: He's just had a swagger to him like he was
- 15:15Speaker 1: and I think, you know, all these guys had it,
- 15:17Speaker 1: and I usually shy away from swagger, but there was
- 15:20Speaker 1: just a confidence about Mike Frabel, especially grouped with Teddy
- 15:23Speaker 1: Bruski and Willie mcguinniston. You know, as a fan, you
- 15:25Speaker 1: just these guys got it, like you know, I it's
- 15:28Speaker 1: a it's a feeling now that's kind of slipped away
- 15:30Speaker 1: obviously in the last few years, but just that confidence
- 15:32Speaker 1: of that defense and what those guys could bring. I
- 15:35Speaker 1: love that guy, and they were smart, they were versatile.
- 15:39Speaker 1: You know, he's the last core piece from that defense
- 15:42Speaker 1: that's not in. Yeah, you know, so right, Yeah, and
- 15:45Speaker 1: you guys remember him obviously a lot better than I do.
- 15:48Speaker 1: So I'll let you guys talk about the specifics. But
- 15:50Speaker 1: he's he's the last guy out of that group of
- 15:54Speaker 1: you know, law Bruski, mcguinnist Harrison, like, all those guys
- 15:58Speaker 1: are already in, so it's his turn. Yeah, I agree.
- 16:01Speaker 1: I mean malloy would be you know, one two, but
- 16:04Speaker 1: definitely at a level down because he didn't span the
- 16:08Speaker 1: whole time. But listen, like I said, you'll never get
- 16:12Speaker 1: me to say anything counter to the rabel argument. This
- 16:16Speaker 1: is the seventh time he's been a finalist. I really
- 16:19Speaker 1: hope the fans vote for him this time. I hope
- 16:21Speaker 1: he gets in. I hope they stop with their petty nonsense.
- 16:25Speaker 1: The good thing about this is these are three guys
- 16:28Speaker 1: the fans don't like, so they have to pick somebody.
- 16:31Speaker 1: It's like when we had three sort of older guys
- 16:33Speaker 1: at the same time and Ray Claybourne got in because
- 16:36Speaker 1: I don't think one of those you know, Russ Frances
- 16:38Speaker 1: against Wes Welker and Matt Light you know, stands no chance.
- 16:43Speaker 1: But you put him against two other guys from the seventies,
- 16:46Speaker 1: and you know, Russ Francis could get in. You know,
- 16:49Speaker 1: Mankins had the contract hold out. They ended up trading them.
- 16:51Speaker 1: People didn't like that. Oh and because of that, it's like, oh,
- 16:54Speaker 1: how many what did they have a win with them?
- 16:56Speaker 1: You know, like it was his fault that they didn't
- 16:58Speaker 1: win super Bowls. Welker obviously had a drop in the
- 17:00Speaker 1: Super Bowl, you know, damn him. And Rabel had the
- 17:03Speaker 1: audacity when he got traded to Kansas City to ask
- 17:06Speaker 1: where all the money was going for Patriot Place and
- 17:08Speaker 1: why the players weren't getting So he was persona non
- 17:11Speaker 1: grata too. So now you got to pick somebody you
- 17:14Speaker 1: don't like, which is which I think is great. Guys
- 17:17Speaker 1: are all deserted. I think you're overstating it a little
- 17:19Speaker 1: bit with Raybel. I don't think it was that they
- 17:21Speaker 1: don't like him. I just think it's just a matter
- 17:22Speaker 1: of who he was up against. They like those other
- 17:25Speaker 1: guys better, right, Yeah, And that's insane. But but that's
- 17:28Speaker 1: utterly insane. The guys that got in over him not necessarily,
- 17:32Speaker 1: not necessarily him including last year. Yeah, that's not even
- 17:37Speaker 1: Wilfork didn't make my ballot last year and he got in. Yeah,
- 17:40Speaker 1: I just think Will Wilfork was more of a fan favorite. Um,
- 17:44Speaker 1: but you don't want to talk about, like with the media, Wilfork.
- 17:47Speaker 1: Where was he after losses? You know, Um, he was
- 17:51Speaker 1: openly confrontational. Yeah, so I don't but I don't about that.
- 17:55Speaker 1: I'm right with Evan on that that's not why. But
- 17:58Speaker 1: I'm just saying that, you know, for fans. But Vrabel
- 18:01Speaker 1: was number one on my list and it has been
- 18:04Speaker 1: for a while, you know, But I hope you can
- 18:06Speaker 1: say I also saw that, just to put it out there,
- 18:08Speaker 1: I saw he's doing some event locally in June. So
- 18:10Speaker 1: I was like, oh, maybe if he got in, we
- 18:11Speaker 1: could do you know, do it the whole ceremony over
- 18:15Speaker 1: the summer instead of having a you know, it's not
- 18:17Speaker 1: gonna be the same if he gets in. They can't
- 18:19Speaker 1: do it in like late July. Yeah, no, they'll have
- 18:21Speaker 1: to adjust if he gets in. Yeah, we are those
- 18:24Speaker 1: rumors of Tennessee trip. Maybe I'm just saying you can't
- 18:27Speaker 1: do it in late July. He's coaching his team, Like
- 18:30Speaker 1: you can't just say, oh, yeah, do you have a
- 18:32Speaker 1: spare a weekend to fly up? You know, well, you
- 18:35Speaker 1: know that's might be a good thing to get them
- 18:36Speaker 1: off their preparation, you know, trying to anyway. Three D
- 18:41Speaker 1: So that was breaking news. I think it's gonna be
- 18:43Speaker 1: Mankins though unfortunately, I mean, I think to Paul's points,
- 18:46Speaker 1: I really see. I think he's the cleanest prospects it.
- 18:51Speaker 1: I think these guys, I think it's gonna be Rabel
- 18:52Speaker 1: because of what I said they have they don't like
- 18:55Speaker 1: all three I hope, So I hope it's Rapes. I actually,
- 18:58Speaker 1: I'm really surprised by how many people in my sphere
- 19:03Speaker 1: that love Logan Makings so much, because when the Patriots
- 19:09Speaker 1: draft guards or spend money on guards, they get dragged
- 19:13Speaker 1: for it to the end of time. But for some reason,
- 19:16Speaker 1: Logan Makans, at least to the people that I heard,
- 19:20Speaker 1: they he was like he's because he was more than
- 19:23Speaker 1: a guard. He first of all, he was a tackle
- 19:25Speaker 1: coming out, So as Joe June, he could have he
- 19:27Speaker 1: could have played tackle as he did at a very
- 19:31Speaker 1: high level on a moment's notice. He played another whole
- 19:34Speaker 1: season on a twenty cl that's the kind of stuff
- 19:37Speaker 1: that you know, we eat up, you know, like it's
- 19:40Speaker 1: kind of like the Bruins, right, who's one of the
- 19:43Speaker 1: most beloved Bruins of all time? Dues go back to
- 19:45Speaker 1: the seventies, Terry o r. Tasmanian at least talented guy
- 19:50Speaker 1: of all time. We love him because man does he
- 19:53Speaker 1: try hard and run through the boards for you, try
- 19:56Speaker 1: to Nixon. Terry Riley's number is retired. I know, I know,
- 20:01Speaker 1: I think it was. Was it against the Rangers? He
- 20:03Speaker 1: climbed up into the stands and oh yeah, but he
- 20:05Speaker 1: wasn't alone there, Bill Berry McNab, they were all up there. Yeah.
- 20:09Speaker 1: But and that's no disrespect to Terry O'Riley, who was
- 20:12Speaker 1: a great player for that great Like to Fred's point
- 20:15Speaker 1: earlier about like a team hall of Fame, Terry O'Riley
- 20:18Speaker 1: should be in a team's hall of fame? Is he
- 20:20Speaker 1: a Hall of Fame player? No, he couldn't skate. He
- 20:23Speaker 1: couldn't skate, but he got like every ounce of production
- 20:28Speaker 1: out of his ability. And I think that's what people
- 20:31Speaker 1: look at, like that toughness, that grit. It's tough around here.
- 20:34Speaker 1: They love me, but you love Mankins. You guys have
- 20:36Speaker 1: a great relationships. I love Mankins, I love Rabel, Like
- 20:41Speaker 1: are you bringing up like well, they just keep picking
- 20:43Speaker 1: guys that don't necessarily I thought it was interesting. There
- 20:46Speaker 1: was a lot of talk in the room about Mosey
- 20:48Speaker 1: to Tupou about how great a special teamer he was,
- 20:53Speaker 1: and I'm thinking to myself, Oh, if he goes in,
- 20:56Speaker 1: I mean, if Slater goes in, then should he? You
- 20:59Speaker 1: know what was funny about that? You know, like you
- 21:03Speaker 1: guys have an idea of who I am, right pretty
- 21:05Speaker 1: stub right fairly. When I heard the name get nominated,
- 21:10Speaker 1: I literally was like, like, my time is valuable, Like
- 21:16Speaker 1: we have to waste we have to waste the next
- 21:18Speaker 1: five minutes talking about I thought that that was an
- 21:23Speaker 1: excellent argument made for mostly to candidacy. And again I'm
- 21:27Speaker 1: going to fall back on Fred's team hall of Fame here.
- 21:32Speaker 1: I know he's probably never gonna get in, but you know,
- 21:36Speaker 1: like when you have a team hall of Fame or
- 21:38Speaker 1: that's the kind of guy in his impact off the
- 21:41Speaker 1: field that should count for a team hall of Fame.
- 21:43Speaker 1: I like, we're not talking about Canton, We're talking about Foxborough, right,
- 21:48Speaker 1: this is a guy. Like I'm telling you, if you
- 21:50Speaker 1: heard the argument, you would have been like it. And
- 21:54Speaker 1: again it makes you think, didn't it Fred, Like I'm
- 21:56Speaker 1: not alone? Right, better case than parcels. And I won't
- 21:59Speaker 1: say it on the because I don't want to embarrass anybody,
- 22:02Speaker 1: but the person who made the argument made it all
- 22:05Speaker 1: the more stunning that it was so like it was excellent.
- 22:09Speaker 1: It's it's like I wasn't expecting the amount of research,
- 22:12Speaker 1: like it was really And then and then the other
- 22:15Speaker 1: guy that you know, I know he was a good player,
- 22:18Speaker 1: but I never considered him, but the argument kind of
- 22:21Speaker 1: was lawyer. A lawyer should be in the Hall. I mean,
- 22:23Speaker 1: his numbers are better than Rodney Harris. He's in trouble
- 22:26Speaker 1: because of the log jam, but that's should he Definitely
- 22:30Speaker 1: he's a Hall of fan. Just just to go back
- 22:31Speaker 1: to mostly real quick. I mean, you know, as a
- 22:33Speaker 1: Patriots fan growing up around here, he was one of
- 22:35Speaker 1: the only players I really knew. And I mean I
- 22:38Speaker 1: called them mostly too poopoos when I was a little kid.
- 22:40Speaker 1: I mean I was like seven six years old, but
- 22:41Speaker 1: that was what I call him. I mean, checking if
- 22:43Speaker 1: you asked me who was my favorite player, probably for
- 22:45Speaker 1: the Patriots. It was probably mostly to toopo. See. I
- 22:49Speaker 1: always just looked him as like special teams. Is that
- 22:52Speaker 1: what he did? I don't remember. Yeah, I mean Peter
- 22:55Speaker 1: was Matthew Slater only he played some yeah, offense, especially
- 22:59Speaker 1: in bad weather. Running back, Yeah, running back, Yeah, he
- 23:01Speaker 1: was running. He was a plotter. My cousin did a
- 23:03Speaker 1: couple of hundred yard games in the se He averaged
- 23:06Speaker 1: over my five yards to carry or something like that,
- 23:09Speaker 1: because my cousin dated Lofa who went to King Philip
- 23:12Speaker 1: and had a little bit of a career with like
- 23:14Speaker 1: Maine and the went to Seattle. Yeah good. Plus see
- 23:16Speaker 1: he was a good player, yep. Yeah, funny. I don't
- 23:19Speaker 1: even remember, Like, I don't even know what that, but
- 23:21Speaker 1: you know what, just the amount of research that went
- 23:23Speaker 1: into it was was quite impressive. And I came away
- 23:28Speaker 1: from it like I didn't I'm not gonna lie, like
- 23:31Speaker 1: I told you, I had no brainers to me from
- 23:34Speaker 1: my my finalists. Um, but I came away from like, wow,
- 23:38Speaker 1: that's that. We should be thinking of guys like that
- 23:41Speaker 1: a little bit more than we do. You probably get there,
- 23:43Speaker 1: I mean I think now you're just trying to get through.
- 23:45Speaker 1: You know this, lad Jam is not going to go
- 23:48Speaker 1: away to that point in you two, I think our
- 23:52Speaker 1: good perspective allowing two guys in for a little while.
- 23:57Speaker 1: Is that totally off the table, because I believe it is.
- 24:01Speaker 1: But we've we've talked about it, we've advocated for it
- 24:03Speaker 1: because now that guys like Brady and Edelman and Gronk
- 24:06Speaker 1: and all these guys are gonna start coming up, So
- 24:08Speaker 1: then guys like Rabel forget about like once Brady, this
- 24:13Speaker 1: is where the missteps of earlier years have hurt. Like
- 24:17Speaker 1: Rabel should be in, Like Rabel seven years is waiting
- 24:22Speaker 1: seven while Matt Light's in? I mean, what are we doing? Yeah,
- 24:26Speaker 1: it would be an epic speech though after seven years,
- 24:29Speaker 1: I mean, he would probably give so much craft to
- 24:31Speaker 1: all the fans there. It's about time. I mean. But yeah, Evan,
- 24:35Speaker 1: Fred and I have talked to Stacy a little bit
- 24:38Speaker 1: all about it, and I understand Stacy's point completely. You
- 24:41Speaker 1: have to sort of establish some some guidelines and parameters
- 24:44Speaker 1: and you can't just go willy nilly. I think that
- 24:46Speaker 1: they've tried to set up a senior committee that meets,
- 24:49Speaker 1: was it every three years or something like that um
- 24:51Speaker 1: to put in, Like you know, the Leon Grays of
- 24:54Speaker 1: the world. You know that they're never going to get
- 24:56Speaker 1: in on the ballot Um the only one I think
- 25:00Speaker 1: that we might be able to, Like, I think Brady
- 25:02Speaker 1: could be just put in and then we should I
- 25:05Speaker 1: personally think we should still do a regular nomination ceremony
- 25:09Speaker 1: that year. Brady should be a different entity all all
- 25:13Speaker 1: to itself. Yeah, same with Bill Beligiate. Yeah. Um, we
- 25:17Speaker 1: shouldn't have to you know, go through the fan voting,
- 25:22Speaker 1: you know, the process of that and subject that. So
- 25:26Speaker 1: maybe two people, like if it's Brady and then it
- 25:28Speaker 1: happens to be Welker that year, you know, Brady goes
- 25:31Speaker 1: in on his own ceremony and Welker gets the summer fete.
- 25:35Speaker 1: Yeah you know. But there is no discussion about Brady
- 25:38Speaker 1: going in now. No, No, not yet, No, no, because
- 25:42Speaker 1: he might unretire. Is that No? I think it's too quick.
- 25:45Speaker 1: The committee has no say in that, right that would
- 25:48Speaker 1: be an organization decision. Like you know, we talked about
- 25:51Speaker 1: Dante Um cool moment, Fred right um when Robert Kraft
- 25:55Speaker 1: came into the meeting. I think I talked to you
- 25:57Speaker 1: guys about this off air He came into the meeting
- 25:59Speaker 1: and just basically announced that he's only um used his
- 26:03Speaker 1: executive privilege on a handful of occasions to just name
- 26:08Speaker 1: a Hall of Famer. And he did it with Dante
- 26:09Speaker 1: Scarnekia and it was a cool moment. The whole room
- 26:12Speaker 1: got up game him up standing. Oh, I think with
- 26:14Speaker 1: Brady though, he's just like a buffer year at least
- 26:16Speaker 1: to just let let things settle. You have to prepare
- 26:19Speaker 1: for that. And I can't just say, oh, yeah, he's well, okay,
- 26:21Speaker 1: now what. I just want to read this email just
- 26:23Speaker 1: in case other people were thinking about this, and whoever
- 26:26Speaker 1: email you are wrong, he says, if you're going to
- 26:30Speaker 1: give fans a choice, he can't rig the vote. You
- 26:32Speaker 1: guys know full well that Parcels will never get a
- 26:35Speaker 1: plurality of the fan vote in any three way race,
- 26:38Speaker 1: at least while he is alive. That needs to be
- 26:40Speaker 1: a Kraft family insert like Dante. Why does that have
- 26:43Speaker 1: to do with rigging, right, Those two things are not
- 26:45Speaker 1: the same. Yeah, I agree he'll never win. Yeah, but
- 26:49Speaker 1: but I can tell you these votes are not rigged.
- 26:53Speaker 1: You know, because I have heard a lot of people say, oh,
- 26:55Speaker 1: the Crafts will never let Parcels in. They this is
- 26:58Speaker 1: not rigged. They may not like it, but if he
- 27:01Speaker 1: gets voted in, he's going in. And I also don't
- 27:04Speaker 1: necessarily believe that the craft will never let him in, right,
- 27:07Speaker 1: that's I think that. I think that's if, if, if,
- 27:10Speaker 1: and when he gets in, I think that will be out. Yeah,
- 27:13Speaker 1: But like I said, right now, it's Parcels, Rabel, Mankins.
- 27:18Speaker 1: There's a reason that the fans can can make to
- 27:21Speaker 1: not vote for somebody. Parcels will always be against two
- 27:24Speaker 1: other guys that are more attractive in the fans eyes. Ryan,
- 27:28Speaker 1: Who's the person who's in his email. He says. Also similarly,
- 27:30Speaker 1: Rabel will never win so long as he is the
- 27:32Speaker 1: head coach of a rival NFL team. That means whoever
- 27:36Speaker 1: the third choice is will win by default. Congrats Logan Manker.
- 27:39Speaker 1: That's that's what Mike thinks. Yeah, he thinks Mankins will
- 27:41Speaker 1: get in this and he says, in the future, I
- 27:43Speaker 1: suggest a committee make sure that there are at least
- 27:45Speaker 1: two viable candidates in the ballot to make this a
- 27:47Speaker 1: more worthy exercise. Also, whatever happened to the maybe he
- 27:51Speaker 1: should run. So so we don't think that Mike Rabel
- 27:53Speaker 1: and Logan Mankins a viable candidates. Yeah, I mean you
- 27:56Speaker 1: want to parcel is a different thing. He elicits strong
- 27:59Speaker 1: responses from different people, and I respect them, I really do.
- 28:02Speaker 1: I respect Evan and Fred No. I mean to me,
- 28:06Speaker 1: it's a strong yes, but I respect their nos and
- 28:08Speaker 1: I know why. I understand it. But you're telling me
- 28:11Speaker 1: that Logan Mankins is not a viable candidate. Mike Rabel's
- 28:14Speaker 1: not a viable candidate. Well, I think he's. I think
- 28:17Speaker 1: he's saying in terms of fan voting, they're not. You
- 28:19Speaker 1: don't think Mike Rabel's viable in terms of fan voting.
- 28:22Speaker 1: That's what he's saying. Yeah, here's because he's the head
- 28:25Speaker 1: coach of Arrival. And if yeah, if you think that's
- 28:27Speaker 1: why he's not getting in your out of your mind? Right,
- 28:30Speaker 1: here's my two things on Parcels. Number one, everybody always
- 28:35Speaker 1: credits him with laying the foundation for Dynasty one point zero,
- 28:41Speaker 1: but correct the man himself famously said, if I can't
- 28:45Speaker 1: shop for the groceries, how do you expect me to
- 28:47Speaker 1: make the dinner? So how can you sit here and
- 28:49Speaker 1: say that? But where? Okay? So that's what they took
- 28:54Speaker 1: his power away that's why he left, But I had
- 28:57Speaker 1: the power before that. I just feel like that that
- 29:01Speaker 1: element of it gets ignored. And the other thing that
- 29:03Speaker 1: I would say is the way that he coached in
- 29:06Speaker 1: that Super Bowl was deplorable. I did, I agree having
- 29:12Speaker 1: allowing Belichick to have Lourie Malloy one on one with
- 29:14Speaker 1: Antonio Freeman to get beat for an eighty one yard
- 29:17Speaker 1: touchdown was inexcusable. I would have fired him that day.
- 29:20Speaker 1: I just allowing Belichick to screw that Super Bowl up
- 29:23Speaker 1: the way I see no like. I just I've heard
- 29:27Speaker 1: these arguments so many times, and I just can't grasp
- 29:32Speaker 1: the fact that he threw the Super Bowl. I'm not
- 29:34Speaker 1: saying a lot of people say his mind wasn't on
- 29:38Speaker 1: the game. Okay, okay, that's different than yeah, you don't
- 29:42Speaker 1: think he did everything in his power to win that game,
- 29:44Speaker 1: and a lot of people don't. I not alone if
- 29:46Speaker 1: you don't. I don't think he was one vested I do.
- 29:49Speaker 1: I think the way that the game unfolded, they ended
- 29:52Speaker 1: up having a much better chance of winning the game
- 29:55Speaker 1: than maybe we thought going into the game. And we're
- 29:58Speaker 1: still naive at the time. I was all win well regardless,
- 30:02Speaker 1: but they thought they were going to beat the Bears.
- 30:03Speaker 1: They had a way better chance as it unfolded. They
- 30:07Speaker 1: had a lead in the second half, and they didn't
- 30:10Speaker 1: have a lead in the second half of the game.
- 30:11Speaker 1: They had a lead at halftime, Yeah they did not.
- 30:14Speaker 1: It was fourteen to ten after the first quarter. They
- 30:17Speaker 1: were down twenty seven fourteen at the half. Look it up.
- 30:20Speaker 1: He definitely has a better memory for these things. I
- 30:24Speaker 1: know they had a better team. You know, my snark
- 30:27Speaker 1: with the coverage, you know, is just that it's snark.
- 30:30Speaker 1: They lost to a better team. Yeah, they lost to
- 30:32Speaker 1: a better team, But I think as the game unfolded,
- 30:34Speaker 1: they actually had a puncher's chance in the game to
- 30:36Speaker 1: win it. They did have a chance, and some of
- 30:38Speaker 1: the coaching decisions were a big reason why. What was
- 30:41Speaker 1: the coaching decision that Parcels made that was why they
- 30:44Speaker 1: didn't have a chance. He's the head coach of the team.
- 30:47Speaker 1: It's the same way that we give criticism to build now.
- 30:49Speaker 1: But I mean, is it the coaching decision to allow
- 30:53Speaker 1: three fifty plush yard touchdowns in the game? It was
- 30:56Speaker 1: that a Parcel's decision. If you ask me, it's a
- 30:58Speaker 1: coaching decision to kick off the Esmond Howard. Okay, that's
- 31:01Speaker 1: a fair point. I think you have to kick off.
- 31:04Speaker 1: What about not playing Troy Brown on specialty? It's hurt?
- 31:07Speaker 1: He was still better than the guys I had in there.
- 31:09Speaker 1: How do you know? He said? So Brown? Oh okay,
- 31:12Speaker 1: he said he could have played. Yeah, but said he
- 31:14Speaker 1: was madd he didn't play. Of course he was madd
- 31:16Speaker 1: he didn't play. But was he was he healthy enough?
- 31:20Speaker 1: Of course he does, but was he probably? Like how
- 31:24Speaker 1: many guys are go out there and play hurt but
- 31:27Speaker 1: they really shouldn't have. My point is million with Desmond Howard,
- 31:32Speaker 1: when you go up against a returner like that, when
- 31:34Speaker 1: you go up against the Devin Hester, when you go
- 31:36Speaker 1: up against somebody at that caliber, you have a plan
- 31:39Speaker 1: going into the game of we're gonna kick away from him,
- 31:42Speaker 1: we're gonna squib, we're gonna do something to avoid giving
- 31:46Speaker 1: him an opportunity like he had to return it. And
- 31:48Speaker 1: the other thing I would say is if you go
- 31:50Speaker 1: back and watch that that game, Reggie White takes over
- 31:55Speaker 1: the game and they did nothing to slow him down.
- 31:57Speaker 1: They just leave. When did he take over the game?
- 32:00Speaker 1: The fourth quarter when they were down what fourteen points,
- 32:02Speaker 1: so you could no longer do what keep a tight
- 32:05Speaker 1: end to chip Reggie White. I listen, I know, I
- 32:08Speaker 1: know all the hits. The hits have been played over
- 32:10Speaker 1: and over and over. Max Lane and Ben Coates did
- 32:13Speaker 1: fine against Reggie White for three quarters of that game.
- 32:16Speaker 1: They were down fourteen in the fourth quarter and they
- 32:18Speaker 1: couldn't do that anymore. They had to throw on every
- 32:21Speaker 1: down and they had to have Ben Coates part of that.
- 32:24Speaker 1: They were down fourteen because he kicked out and Reggie
- 32:26Speaker 1: White took the game over like great Hall of Fame
- 32:29Speaker 1: players due which gets me back to my original point.
- 32:32Speaker 1: They lost to a better team. Yeah, they had a chance.
- 32:35Speaker 1: I agree with Evan. They had a chance. They were
- 32:38Speaker 1: after the first quarter. But then it would you actually
- 32:41Speaker 1: have to look it up or were you? Evan just
- 32:42Speaker 1: gave me the benefit of the Dalton said, I know
- 32:44Speaker 1: he knows correct of fourteen ten and then yeah, yeah,
- 32:50Speaker 1: twenty seven fourteen. Then the Patriots made it, uh twenty
- 32:54Speaker 1: seven twenty one on a Curtis Martin eighteen yard touchdown run.
- 32:58Speaker 1: And then right after this is why I just said,
- 33:00Speaker 1: Paul knows this is my These are my guys, Paul,
- 33:07Speaker 1: this is this is our like peak fan boy, Paul. Yeah,
- 33:12Speaker 1: oh you're so mad after this the fight you weren't fight.
- 33:16Speaker 1: I almost I was mad because I knew he was leaving. Yeah,
- 33:19Speaker 1: that's what I was mad. I spent the whole game. Yeah,
- 33:22Speaker 1: Week sixteen at at the Meadowlands against the Giants. It's
- 33:26Speaker 1: a Saturday, and the Patriots had that. They were down
- 33:29Speaker 1: twenty two nothing. They came back and one twenty three
- 33:31Speaker 1: twenty two and uh, he's walking. We were like in
- 33:33Speaker 1: the first row. He's walking out. Literally, me and my idiot.
- 33:37Speaker 1: You know. Alfrem Evert was one of them, you know,
- 33:38Speaker 1: the famous alfrem ever on the radio. We're all screaming,
- 33:42Speaker 1: tune up, please don't leave, Please tell what to the
- 33:49Speaker 1: He is a five hundred coach with the Patriots. I
- 33:52Speaker 1: mean based on what he took over and what he
- 33:54Speaker 1: what he built. I mean I knew you had one, yeah,
- 33:56Speaker 1: I mean, but I mean that one's a little bit
- 33:57Speaker 1: more like even the hater with my thing, my thing.
- 34:00Speaker 1: He took over the sport, my thing with parcels. It
- 34:04Speaker 1: took some time more behind the scenes of why he
- 34:06Speaker 1: shouldn't be in a team Hall of Fame. It's because
- 34:09Speaker 1: what he put the owner through every year from from
- 34:12Speaker 1: day one, from the first year, the craft only, I
- 34:15Speaker 1: don't know way coach next year two way Street two.
- 34:20Speaker 1: He started it from day one because he they didn't
- 34:23Speaker 1: give him what they give Belichick. If they gave him
- 34:25Speaker 1: what to get Belichick, it wouldn't have been like he
- 34:27Speaker 1: didn't even this is the first year, Paul. They it
- 34:30Speaker 1: hadn't even started yet. I know, I'm not sure. I'm
- 34:32Speaker 1: not blaming I'm not blaming Robert Kraft for being a
- 34:35Speaker 1: rookie owner. He said was I don't know if I'm
- 34:37Speaker 1: gonna come back next year, right, every year he go
- 34:39Speaker 1: through this and do you think of No, it was
- 34:43Speaker 1: because Bill just likes to keep parcels. Was a drama
- 34:46Speaker 1: queen because he's not a team players. That's ridiculous. But
- 34:49Speaker 1: he had a beer with the media, so he's on
- 34:51Speaker 1: the five. He cracked good jokes during press conferences. Yeah,
- 34:56Speaker 1: like when he told the guy it was a stupid question.
- 34:59Speaker 1: Dumb ass let him. He let the media into his right.
- 35:02Speaker 1: It wasn't that he They would go into the office,
- 35:04Speaker 1: right and he would like just do a little press conference.
- 35:06Speaker 1: I'm like, yea, yeah, right in the office there he
- 35:10Speaker 1: talked to me in the park what he was charming.
- 35:13Speaker 1: He could be charming. I'm sure. I think Bill can
- 35:16Speaker 1: be charming in his own way. I do. I've said
- 35:19Speaker 1: a lot of bad things. Vastly higher station in life
- 35:24Speaker 1: than the two Bills are cut from the same cloth,
- 35:29Speaker 1: there's no doubt about it. But Parcels had a way
- 35:31Speaker 1: with the media. He had a way to make it entertaining,
- 35:36Speaker 1: you know. But they both never told you anything. Yeah,
- 35:39Speaker 1: you know, Bill Belichick learned a lot of the stuff
- 35:43Speaker 1: that he does now from Parcels. He just has a
- 35:46Speaker 1: different personality. A lot of this Parcels stuff just sounds
- 35:48Speaker 1: like an abuser, like you know, like like he's just
- 35:50Speaker 1: he's he always keeps you guessing, and then it's really nice, true,
- 35:55Speaker 1: but then he's ADDICTI most of the time. That one
- 36:00Speaker 1: time I was walking in my car and he stopped
- 36:02Speaker 1: and talked to me for ten minutes. To the guy
- 36:05Speaker 1: who said, I'm so glad it wasn't the combine he
- 36:12Speaker 1: talked to me once. And the other thing, the other
- 36:14Speaker 1: thing that gets thrown around in the room a lot
- 36:17Speaker 1: is Parcels saved the Patriots. If it wasn't for Parcels,
- 36:20Speaker 1: they wouldn't be here, which is such bs. If it
- 36:24Speaker 1: wasn't for Robert Kraft, they'd be in Saint Louis. And
- 36:27Speaker 1: if you wanted to say, what Parcels the then gift
- 36:30Speaker 1: James Orthwine the credit because he hired Parcels. Okay, you know,
- 36:34Speaker 1: let's let's if we want to because I think if
- 36:37Speaker 1: Parcels wasn't the coach, they were gone. Where were they going?
- 36:41Speaker 1: I don't know where they were gone. Now I don't
- 36:42Speaker 1: really care because three years later they have been a
- 36:44Speaker 1: team here because Boston was going to have an NFL team.
- 36:47Speaker 1: So I don't really don't care. I don't care if
- 36:49Speaker 1: Parcels was the coach, if Kraft hadn't bought the team,
- 36:51Speaker 1: they'd have been in Saint Louis. They'd have been the
- 36:53Speaker 1: Saint Louis Stallions. They already had the logo. Maybe it's
- 36:57Speaker 1: maybe it's a fact. No, it's not. We'd have to
- 36:59Speaker 1: ray didn't move. If it was, if they moved, the
- 37:01Speaker 1: craft the police. If they moved and came back, then
- 37:04Speaker 1: it would be a fact they didn't move. I also
- 37:07Speaker 1: Crafts saved them to Crafts saved the team and kept
- 37:10Speaker 1: them here. That that that's a that's a fact, and
- 37:14Speaker 1: if I agree with you, and that's why I'm not
- 37:17Speaker 1: giving Parcels any credit for that. And I think we've
- 37:20Speaker 1: also learned since twenty and twenty who really is the
- 37:25Speaker 1: reason why we all have all of this right and
- 37:27Speaker 1: is right? So so Parcels he laid the foundation. Well,
- 37:34Speaker 1: then Tom Brady came and he won six freaking Super Bowls, okay,
- 37:37Speaker 1: and then he left and now we're where we're at.
- 37:40Speaker 1: So who really was the one that was the foundation
- 37:43Speaker 1: to that team? I think it was the freaking quarterback. God,
- 37:48Speaker 1: I still have I still have everything you guys have said,
- 37:50Speaker 1: but I still have some warm feelings for the guy,
- 37:52Speaker 1: and I like that's fine. But we're talking about a
- 37:54Speaker 1: team of Mike, and he belongs in it for the
- 37:59Speaker 1: reasons that Mike then put him in as we thought
- 38:02Speaker 1: of our team. He doesn't listen, doesn't deserve it over
- 38:05Speaker 1: the players. I would agree with that, ye like if
- 38:08Speaker 1: you if I'm if I'm doing a hierarchy. That's why
- 38:11Speaker 1: Parcels was not my ballot this year. It was Welker,
- 38:15Speaker 1: Rabel Mankins one two three. I agree with Evan, the
- 38:19Speaker 1: players deserve more than than that particular coach. I would
- 38:24Speaker 1: agree with that, and that's the whole like that, like
- 38:26Speaker 1: in a team Hall of Fame, I think everything Mike
- 38:28Speaker 1: set is right, Like, yes, okay, technically, maybe you have
- 38:32Speaker 1: more information on the move than I do. Fred, maybe
- 38:34Speaker 1: they would have moved anyway. But Parcels changed the entire
- 38:38Speaker 1: way everybody in this town thought about football because no
- 38:41Speaker 1: one ever knew a thing about He was great and
- 38:43Speaker 1: he came here and gave you instant credit because that's
- 38:47Speaker 1: true because he was a great coach and already had
- 38:49Speaker 1: two rings changed it. But when he got here, he
- 38:52Speaker 1: was he like he absolutely was a pain. He could
- 38:56Speaker 1: give two craps about the Patriots. All they cared about
- 38:59Speaker 1: was Bill Parts. I don't care because the two were synonymous. Uh.
- 39:04Speaker 1: I just real quick for you, um Fairbanks, I mean
- 39:08Speaker 1: same same things, but just for Evan who's you know,
- 39:11Speaker 1: scheme guy. And I mean I just I always think
- 39:13Speaker 1: it's fascinating. I don't know if enough people appreciate it,
- 39:15Speaker 1: but you know, both of the kind of schemes like
- 39:17Speaker 1: we're started here in the seventies by you know, Chuck Fairbanks,
- 39:20Speaker 1: Ray Perkins, Like I just I interested, Like what yere
- 39:23Speaker 1: you on on Chucks. So last was it last year
- 39:26Speaker 1: that Don Corriel got into the Pro Football Hall of Fame? Finally, ridiculous?
- 39:30Speaker 1: Is that ridiculous? There's literally an offensive system named after
- 39:33Speaker 1: care It's called the air Correl. Don't don't add him?
- 39:40Speaker 1: So what do you mean? It's a it's a it's
- 39:43Speaker 1: an X and those game. And he's like the pioneer
- 39:45Speaker 1: of the forward. We're gonna give like whoever came up
- 39:48Speaker 1: with the cover two put them in the Hall of Fame. No,
- 39:52Speaker 1: but okay, well, as long as you're on now. But
- 39:55Speaker 1: is kind of but Wilkinson came up with Bud Wilkins
- 40:00Speaker 1: and came up with the three four defense. Is he
- 40:02Speaker 1: going in? Yes? Is? Yeah? He's a college football Hall
- 40:06Speaker 1: of Famer because he didn't really coach in the NFL
- 40:08Speaker 1: all that long. But yes, the answer to all of
- 40:11Speaker 1: these questions. And Paul Brown's the next one because he
- 40:14Speaker 1: pretty much invented everything else. Paul Brown. Okay, I'm okay,
- 40:18Speaker 1: but innovators are special. Friend. When when a system, oh,
- 40:23Speaker 1: he threw the ball a lot, so they called that
- 40:25Speaker 1: air correl. The air Correl came out in what the
- 40:30Speaker 1: late sixties, early seventies, right, it's still in the NFL
- 40:34Speaker 1: fifty years later. It's still a play calling system in
- 40:37Speaker 1: the NFL. I mean, Ray Perkins is definitely a guy
- 40:41Speaker 1: that that is on my list as well. I mean,
- 40:44Speaker 1: it's the we still run the Ernhard Perkins offense. We think,
- 40:47Speaker 1: I have no idea what last year was, but we
- 40:49Speaker 1: still run the Ernhard Perkins offense. And you know, these
- 40:52Speaker 1: are people that I think deserve it, but I think
- 40:54Speaker 1: they deserve it. And I kind of think this way
- 40:57Speaker 1: about Parcels. This is what the control abut your category
- 41:01Speaker 1: is all about. Right? The contributor category is there for
- 41:04Speaker 1: people like Don Corriel, like Dante Scarneckia, like Ernie Adams
- 41:10Speaker 1: that don't should not be on the player ballot, but
- 41:15Speaker 1: deserve a seat and recognition. I would like it to
- 41:19Speaker 1: be done that way. I'd like that amendment coaches separate, Yeah,
- 41:22Speaker 1: a special contributor. Maybe I know the contributor category is
- 41:27Speaker 1: more mister Crafts thing, like maybe there's the committee then
- 41:30Speaker 1: makes like a coaching category like obviously Bill, I think,
- 41:33Speaker 1: is this whole separate thing just like Brady, so we
- 41:36Speaker 1: don't have to worry about that. But like guys like
- 41:38Speaker 1: Ernie Adams, guys like, I know, I just thought of
- 41:41Speaker 1: something ivan something an interesting threat here, Chuck Fairbanks departure
- 41:48Speaker 1: mutuous Bill Parcels. The similarities between Fairbanks and Parcels are
- 41:52Speaker 1: eerie and similar. I'm not gonna say that things are
- 41:55Speaker 1: gonna end a little different twenty twenty three years, not
- 42:00Speaker 1: twenty five, but a little different. Yeah, not bad enough
- 42:03Speaker 1: to probably color any of this kind of stuff, but
- 42:05Speaker 1: at least there's probably I mean, it's hard to imagine
- 42:07Speaker 1: that it's going to be all sunshine. I don't I
- 42:09Speaker 1: don't care if it murders somebody on the way out
- 42:12Speaker 1: he gets right. No, I'm not saying that there's an
- 42:18Speaker 1: All those coaches had some degree of success here, you know.
- 42:22Speaker 1: I mean, and so of course Bill is above and
- 42:24Speaker 1: beyond that, but all coaches it doesn't ever really tend
- 42:27Speaker 1: to end like it almost never end well. You know,
- 42:31Speaker 1: it's the first iteration of greatness for the Patriots came
- 42:34Speaker 1: when Fairbanks drafted everybody, Hannah Haynes, Clayborne, Morgan, Brock, you know,
- 42:41Speaker 1: Tim Fox, Grogan. The list goes on, you know, the
- 42:45Speaker 1: list goes on. That was the first great Patriots team
- 42:49Speaker 1: seventy six, seventy six seventy eight and then she took
- 42:55Speaker 1: a college job and left. Like that's a tough one
- 42:58Speaker 1: to get past. So the similarities between Fairbanks and Parcels
- 43:02Speaker 1: or Erie, but there was so much more than just
- 43:04Speaker 1: he took a college job, right. It was like, I mean,
- 43:06Speaker 1: all kinds of things going. He took a college job
- 43:08Speaker 1: during the season. Yeah, and Billy Sullivan said get out
- 43:13Speaker 1: go and wasn't part of it? Also connected to Stingley
- 43:15Speaker 1: and how that was all handled? Am I miss remembering that?
- 43:18Speaker 1: Like it's it's I don't remember that. Yeah, I feel
- 43:22Speaker 1: like you think that's why Fairbanks left because he was
- 43:24Speaker 1: mad the way the organization handled sting I don't. I
- 43:27Speaker 1: hadn't heard that the true I don't know. That might
- 43:29Speaker 1: have been entails from the sideline book thing. I don't know. Yeah,
- 43:32Speaker 1: you might be right. I'm just saying I hadn't heard.
- 43:34Speaker 1: I might be remembering it, but I just tend I
- 43:36Speaker 1: just seem to remember a lot of drama, like it
- 43:39Speaker 1: was just building between ownership and the coach, and it
- 43:42Speaker 1: raised a certain the biggest problem there. And no disrespect
- 43:46Speaker 1: intended to the Sullivan's because they were instrumental in bringing
- 43:48Speaker 1: pro football. They didn't have enough money for a team, right, Like,
- 43:52Speaker 1: I don't mean that disrespect that. Then you didn't have
- 43:54Speaker 1: the revenue sharing that you have now and all that.
- 43:56Speaker 1: So think about think about when when we're we're getting
- 43:59Speaker 1: ready for the draft in two weeks. Every year, the
- 44:04Speaker 1: Patriots would get ready for the draft and fans would say,
- 44:09Speaker 1: I have my choice between two so and Lazarre. Lazarre
- 44:13Speaker 1: is gonna cost too much money. We're gonna have to
- 44:15Speaker 1: go with you. So that was literally a consideration just
- 44:18Speaker 1: what they're gonna cost every year. And then the off
- 44:22Speaker 1: season would come and training camp would come and without
- 44:26Speaker 1: fail like John Hanner and Leon Gray would be holding
- 44:29Speaker 1: out because they're not getting paid like NFL wage, you know.
- 44:33Speaker 1: And it was just it all stemmed from that because
- 44:36Speaker 1: he was a bad guy. He just didn't have enough money. Yeah,
- 44:39Speaker 1: he didn't have enough money to support an NFL team.
- 44:42Speaker 1: It's interesting though that just when you're talking about all
- 44:44Speaker 1: the draft picks that the Patriots had in the seventies
- 44:48Speaker 1: and then I think Bill park sells a lot of
- 44:49Speaker 1: his draft picks are a reason why he's even in
- 44:51Speaker 1: consideration for the Hall of Fame, and it just it
- 44:54Speaker 1: just goes to show once again, like how important the
- 44:56Speaker 1: draft really is to turning this whole thing around. Now,
- 44:59Speaker 1: you know, I I can't there two weeks away and
- 45:01Speaker 1: it's you're talking about Hannah and all these guys, and
- 45:04Speaker 1: we're talking about all the guys Parcels drafted and even
- 45:07Speaker 1: the guys that are on the ballot as as players
- 45:10Speaker 1: with Macons and Raybell and fray Ball. I knows a
- 45:13Speaker 1: different situation, but Makons is a draft pick and you
- 45:16Speaker 1: just gotta you gotta be able to draft. I mean,
- 45:19Speaker 1: from for a hundred years, it's been the same thing.
- 45:22Speaker 1: We did the draft preview podcast today review. Sorry paul Um,
- 45:26Speaker 1: don't apologize to mean. Evan brought up Fred Warner. It's
- 45:31Speaker 1: such a great example. And you just mentioned these guys
- 45:33Speaker 1: and I think that as a franchise are kind of
- 45:35Speaker 1: superstar hungry right now, and like, you know, you had
- 45:37Speaker 1: so many for so long, and it's just like, why
- 45:39Speaker 1: can't we find one of these guys? You know, even
- 45:41Speaker 1: it's just that random sixth rounder who suddenly just you know,
- 45:45Speaker 1: it just it hasn't happened in a while, and it
- 45:47Speaker 1: really needs to it. They're going to turn it around,
- 45:49Speaker 1: all right. Five five Pats five hundred is the eighth
- 45:51Speaker 1: ticket hut line where I think we should record this
- 45:54Speaker 1: and now, because we've had the same argument for I
- 45:57Speaker 1: would say at least ten years, just play. Yeah, we
- 45:59Speaker 1: should play it. And now we're gonna, you know, to
- 46:03Speaker 1: discuss Bill Parcells's candidacy and the Patriots Hall of Fame.
- 46:05Speaker 1: We're gonna we're gonna take a look back should we
- 46:08Speaker 1: use twelves or twenty sixteens argument? You know? Yeah, I
- 46:12Speaker 1: think we literally have said nothing different to each other
- 46:15Speaker 1: on this topic in ten years eight five past five
- 46:19Speaker 1: hundred Web radio at Patriots dot com. Let's get to
- 46:22Speaker 1: some of the listeners. We'll go to Patty and Agawam
- 46:25Speaker 1: for us. What's up Patty? Going on? Everyone? Hey hey,
- 46:28Speaker 1: pat hey, um friend, you actually last year, I don't
- 46:33Speaker 1: know if you remember that, probably not, but you you
- 46:36Speaker 1: kind of egged me on the boat for Bradle and
- 46:39Speaker 1: I did last You're over Wolf, Thank you. I hope
- 46:42Speaker 1: he gets send this here too. And and Paulie, you're right, like,
- 46:45Speaker 1: I don't know how Welker who's he was one of one.
- 46:49Speaker 1: I mean, he can't compare any of any of the
- 46:51Speaker 1: guys that played the slot on this team, not even Edelman,
- 46:53Speaker 1: because he would play on the outside Brown if you
- 46:56Speaker 1: remember early in his career, would play on the outside.
- 46:58Speaker 1: But if people are really or if the voters were
- 47:03Speaker 1: and the committee were holding the catch against Bolder, to me,
- 47:05Speaker 1: that's just a dast nine. You know, he deserves to
- 47:09Speaker 1: be in the Hall of Fame, absolutely, and that's all
- 47:12Speaker 1: I gotta say. All right, thanks, Patty. I didn't realize
- 47:15Speaker 1: he had some that he was a little surly too well.
- 47:17Speaker 1: I would tell you if I would feel better if
- 47:22Speaker 1: they're holding the drop against him than Evans thing against
- 47:25Speaker 1: him that he was kind of churlish with the media, right, Like,
- 47:29Speaker 1: I just think that at least drop is the drop
- 47:32Speaker 1: is a play, it's on field, it's his performance should
- 47:35Speaker 1: have been a you're holding it, but you're holding his
- 47:37Speaker 1: performance against him. I think it's ridiculous to do that
- 47:40Speaker 1: for one play. But at least you're saying, you know what,
- 47:44Speaker 1: he choked when it was on the line, he needed
- 47:46Speaker 1: to make that catch. I don't think of it that way.
- 47:49Speaker 1: I think it was a bad throw. I think he
- 47:50Speaker 1: could have caught it, had other chances, and yeah, you
- 47:53Speaker 1: had a million other chances to win the game. You're
- 47:55Speaker 1: expecting a five foot eight slot receiver to adjust to
- 47:58Speaker 1: a wrong shoulder. Yeah, he thought he should have caught it,
- 48:02Speaker 1: but anyway of course he thought should I think you
- 48:06Speaker 1: should have caught it too. Yeah, let's go to Roland
- 48:10Speaker 1: in the UK. Those English phones, Sean in New York.
- 48:16Speaker 1: What's up, Sean? I think they're calling right back in
- 48:22Speaker 1: so they must have gotten disconnected. Um. Yeah, but like
- 48:26Speaker 1: I can at least understand well or accept I'm talking
- 48:30Speaker 1: about his play on the field, and I didn't think
- 48:31Speaker 1: it was up to standard. I think you're wrong, but
- 48:34Speaker 1: that's your opinion at least like to say it like
- 48:37Speaker 1: I didn't like the way you talk to me, Like
- 48:40Speaker 1: I don't think I like to say, shut up, you child.
- 48:42Speaker 1: I don't think that that's what I don't think that
- 48:44Speaker 1: that's their argument. I think that's in their in their
- 48:47Speaker 1: psyche though, when it comes to it, you know, like
- 48:49Speaker 1: I think it's in their deep rootedness of it. Of
- 48:52Speaker 1: like maybe they point to things like the drop and
- 48:54Speaker 1: things like that that are on the real tangible things,
- 48:57Speaker 1: and then in the back of their head they're also
- 48:59Speaker 1: thinking of I'll remember that time that I tried to
- 49:01Speaker 1: ask him a question in the locker room, and he
- 49:03Speaker 1: totally blew me off, like what an a hole? You know?
- 49:06Speaker 1: I just I West Welker was such a like special
- 49:09Speaker 1: kind of player. We were we were doing our thing,
- 49:12Speaker 1: our project this week, and some of the old PFW's
- 49:14Speaker 1: relying around and there was a PFW from June two
- 49:17Speaker 1: thousand and seven, and it just took me back to
- 49:19Speaker 1: my excitement as a fan of like you had all
- 49:22Speaker 1: these new players and Welker was such a surprise to
- 49:25Speaker 1: me the way he just the player he was everybody knows,
- 49:28Speaker 1: but like his crazy eyes, like when he would be
- 49:30Speaker 1: back to return a punt and you look at him
- 49:32Speaker 1: and he's just got these white blue eyes that are
- 49:34Speaker 1: like wide open and you know, not in the jabbar
- 49:36Speaker 1: or sorry the what's his name, caldwell away, that's like
- 49:40Speaker 1: kind of scary. But he was so intense And one
- 49:43Speaker 1: of my favorite West Welker plays was I think he
- 49:45Speaker 1: caught like a third down pass down in the red
- 49:47Speaker 1: zone against Indie in two thousand and seven to like
- 49:49Speaker 1: seal that game, and then the cameras like caught him
- 49:52Speaker 1: like are you like screaming at one of the Colts players, like,
- 49:55Speaker 1: you know, just as they had iced the game, So
- 49:57Speaker 1: I just it's just, really, he's one of the players.
- 49:59Speaker 1: It's such a shit to me that everything he did
- 50:01Speaker 1: so well just gets kind of forgot and you talk
- 50:04Speaker 1: about how he was in the locker room or the
- 50:06Speaker 1: foot jokes, and you know, I don't know if you
- 50:08Speaker 1: guys agree. I know a lot of people said Super
- 50:09Speaker 1: Bowl forty two, had they pulled it out, that he,
- 50:11Speaker 1: you know, maybe might likely would have been the MVP.
- 50:13Speaker 1: A WEBN for one h three is good in eleven
- 50:15Speaker 1: in a key spot? Is that good? Evan? Is that good?
- 50:19Speaker 1: Sometimes you have the metrics Julian Julian Edelman level, but
- 50:23Speaker 1: it didn't make that. It's it's one of my great
- 50:25Speaker 1: disappointments for that player that I love so much, that
- 50:28Speaker 1: just brought such character to the team and just gave
- 50:30Speaker 1: them such a special element on offense. And now it's
- 50:32Speaker 1: you know, you just talk about the stupid stuff that
- 50:34Speaker 1: doesn't count. So I mean, he should be into put him,
- 50:36Speaker 1: put him right after very I also along to his
- 50:39Speaker 1: personality lines, the Wally Pip thing, well, I'm telling you
- 50:44Speaker 1: he didn't get it. For the longest time, these things
- 50:47Speaker 1: stand out to people. It's crazy. Bill but you know, Bill,
- 50:51Speaker 1: you know, didn't like some of the things that Welker did.
- 50:53Speaker 1: I think Welker was like, you know, he wasn't like
- 50:56Speaker 1: rabel Um like a ball busting, Wise asked. But he
- 51:01Speaker 1: would he would talk back to Bill and he would
- 51:04Speaker 1: say things he wasn't, you know, always someone that you
- 51:09Speaker 1: could control verbally, you know, the Rex Ryan thing and
- 51:13Speaker 1: other things. You know. So Bill would always look for
- 51:15Speaker 1: an opportunity to you know, get back at him too.
- 51:19Speaker 1: Um So. But I don't know if that has anything
- 51:22Speaker 1: to do with fan voting, but I'm you know, he
- 51:25Speaker 1: wasn't always Bill's favorite player. So and I agree that
- 51:27Speaker 1: these are just like a couple of fans, um and
- 51:31Speaker 1: not necessarily indicative of how everybody feels. But this is
- 51:34Speaker 1: you know, I my notes unbeknownst to me at the
- 51:37Speaker 1: time that Welker wasn't even gonna make the finalist ballot.
- 51:39Speaker 1: When I wrote my notes on Monday, I thought it
- 51:43Speaker 1: was he headed the list right, and he's not even
- 51:46Speaker 1: a finalist. So I got some some blowback from people
- 51:49Speaker 1: after I posted a good group of guys, but Welker
- 51:52Speaker 1: is the least deserving of the three. That's one for
- 51:57Speaker 1: dropping the game winning Super Bowl catches catches question. Um,
- 52:03Speaker 1: the drop in the Super Bowl was huge. Then he
- 52:06Speaker 1: then he leaves to join Denver in free agency and
- 52:08Speaker 1: his cheap shot on tolib No thanks, this is what
- 52:14Speaker 1: you're dealing with. I forgot because the petulant child of
- 52:17Speaker 1: a coach had the audacity to say that it was
- 52:19Speaker 1: a cheap shot when they ran a crossing route and
- 52:23Speaker 1: tried to set a pick and and it blew up
- 52:25Speaker 1: in their face, which is how how well I don't
- 52:28Speaker 1: know where yet they learned that like setting picks and
- 52:31Speaker 1: rub routes. Um, that's a good us when people bring
- 52:36Speaker 1: up the drop though you brought up apreciate Caldwell, that
- 52:38Speaker 1: was a drop, right, That was that INDI yeah, an
- 52:42Speaker 1: indie in the end zone. And there are some, by
- 52:45Speaker 1: the way, there are some, by the way, there are
- 52:47Speaker 1: some that are advocate for Wes Welker too. I'm not
- 52:50Speaker 1: I'm just reading you some of the really negative one.
- 52:52Speaker 1: Now he coaches the Dolphins, where uh Mankin should be
- 52:57Speaker 1: over Welker every day. Um, someone making fun of someone
- 53:03Speaker 1: laughing at you and I are arguing you have to
- 53:06Speaker 1: be joking. Um, just done. The Welcer just that's it.
- 53:11Speaker 1: You have to be joking that he should be in.
- 53:13Speaker 1: Oh my god, how about the Pats have to get
- 53:18Speaker 1: into the playoffs and win a super Bowl before he
- 53:20Speaker 1: gets in. What I'm just telling you what this is?
- 53:24Speaker 1: What this is? What I get then a guy advocating
- 53:27Speaker 1: for Larry is, oh, I gotta, I gotta, I gotta
- 53:30Speaker 1: admit I was devastated by the Super Bowl drop. Complaining
- 53:35Speaker 1: about the talib thing was one of the first moments
- 53:37Speaker 1: for me of being kind of like what I I
- 53:43Speaker 1: have always and Fred can back me on this. I
- 53:46Speaker 1: always sort of like chuckled a bill like you know,
- 53:49Speaker 1: you guys know the story very early on and got
- 53:51Speaker 1: upset with me and whatever. He never ever treated me differently,
- 53:54Speaker 1: Like to the whole point of he was mean to me,
- 53:57Speaker 1: I'm not gonna vote for him, like, he never treated
- 54:00Speaker 1: me differently after that. It was two thousand and three.
- 54:03Speaker 1: It was a long time ago, right, I had never
- 54:06Speaker 1: felt like there was anything different. I never ever was
- 54:09Speaker 1: affected by him. The number one most often asked question
- 54:14Speaker 1: that I get when I speak at schools and classes
- 54:17Speaker 1: and stuff like that is what does Belichick really like
- 54:19Speaker 1: to cover? And I always say he's very easy to cover.
- 54:21Speaker 1: He's the most consistent person I've ever seen in terms
- 54:24Speaker 1: of the way he deals with the media. I never
- 54:26Speaker 1: ever worried that Mike was getting something from him that
- 54:30Speaker 1: I wasn't, because unless you were like a real national
- 54:32Speaker 1: guy and they were leaking stuff for whatever reason, no
- 54:36Speaker 1: one was getting anything anymore. No, it's kind of changing
- 54:39Speaker 1: a little bit now, but I always felt like he
- 54:41Speaker 1: was a really consistent guy. That comment after that loss
- 54:45Speaker 1: to Denver bothered me because it was just a patently
- 54:51Speaker 1: false statement. How many times do I say to you, Fred,
- 54:54Speaker 1: he never lies right. They're always like nuance or you know,
- 55:00Speaker 1: disingenuous biomission lives biomission context. That was a flat out
- 55:05Speaker 1: lie that he tried to get everybody to buy because
- 55:08Speaker 1: at that time he could still absolutely do no wrong.
- 55:12Speaker 1: And that really really bothered me that that comment after
- 55:15Speaker 1: that game, like a cheap shot, the worst cheap how
- 55:19Speaker 1: do you say, the worst cheap shot in the history
- 55:21Speaker 1: of football? It's something I'm paraphrasing. It was something like
- 55:25Speaker 1: that because because Welco was running a rub route and
- 55:28Speaker 1: they collided, rolland from the UK's back on the line,
- 55:32Speaker 1: what's up rolling? Oh, come on, what's going on here.
- 55:36Speaker 1: I'm afraid to hit this. Todd's in Greenville? What's up
- 55:39Speaker 1: Todd Areas? You know what, I've been listening to all this,
- 55:44Speaker 1: and I was listening the other day and I just
- 55:46Speaker 1: kind of thought about suddenly, you know what, I got
- 55:48Speaker 1: nothing to complain about. I started chiring for the team
- 55:51Speaker 1: in the you know, the early seventies, and I've had
- 55:54Speaker 1: twenty years of bliss with Bill and Brady and stuff
- 55:57Speaker 1: like that, and you know what, I think I've just
- 55:59Speaker 1: been able to finally say it. I don't care. I'll
- 56:01Speaker 1: just see what happens and go from there. I think
- 56:03Speaker 1: that that's what we need to do as a fan base,
- 56:05Speaker 1: because we've been spoiled. We should be happy we've been
- 56:07Speaker 1: spoiled and just wait and see what happens. Who knows.
- 56:10Speaker 1: I think that's the that should be the new team.
- 56:12Speaker 1: Just wait and see. Okay, what do you guys thinking?
- 56:14Speaker 1: Wait and see? I'm gonna wait and see for two
- 56:17Speaker 1: weeks and then we'll see. Yea edwins in Virginia? What's up? Edwin? Hello? Right? So? Um,
- 56:27Speaker 1: I got a couple of comments. So I believe Mike
- 56:32Speaker 1: Rabel and Wes Welker. I mean they should definitely be
- 56:35Speaker 1: in the Page's Hall of Fame. You know, people have
- 56:38Speaker 1: to kind of put personal feelings aside, and you know,
- 56:41Speaker 1: I think that they should both be in. You know,
- 56:44Speaker 1: then you know their contributions to the franchise. As far
- 56:49Speaker 1: as the draft, um, I'm wondering what y'all sake would
- 56:53Speaker 1: be on Bill Belichick going kind of an orthodox route.
- 56:58Speaker 1: So you know, everyone's expecting, you know, you're gonna get
- 57:02Speaker 1: offensive weapons. The league is very offensively focused right now.
- 57:08Speaker 1: But we know Bill like to do unorthodox thing. So
- 57:12Speaker 1: I think you know, this current cornerback class is one
- 57:14Speaker 1: of the best, yeah, in a while. So this traditionally,
- 57:20Speaker 1: if you have one shut down corner you can shut
- 57:22Speaker 1: down one side of the field. That would work. You know,
- 57:27Speaker 1: I don't think it would be unorthodox for him to
- 57:29Speaker 1: pick up cornerbacks. They have two star receivers. So let's
- 57:34Speaker 1: say the Patris double dip, they get a guy let's
- 57:36Speaker 1: say Gonzales falls to them, and then let's say a
- 57:40Speaker 1: guy like Beyonta Banks or those two class. So you're
- 57:46Speaker 1: saying two cornerbacks. I don't want to do that too
- 57:49Speaker 1: into the twenties to get another cornerback, they can have.
- 57:56Speaker 1: So we're trading up to get a second cornerback? Is yeah, yeah,
- 58:02Speaker 1: I don't want to do that, getting too define. Gilmore's less.
- 58:07Speaker 1: They have a couple of guys that so you could
- 58:10Speaker 1: have a boat or you can have the mystery corner.
- 58:12Speaker 1: It could even bet and you know you can have that.
- 58:17Speaker 1: Gilmo is a top ten pick. We're getting two now
- 58:19Speaker 1: and the top twenty five we are. Um, yeah, but
- 58:23Speaker 1: if you like, but if you could guarantee boast both
- 58:27Speaker 1: of them are Pro Bowl level cornerbacks, Nope, I mean
- 58:31Speaker 1: you still wouldn't do it. I would do it, but
- 58:33Speaker 1: doesn't work. Like I mean, I think you could take
- 58:36Speaker 1: two first one you could thank you get a guy
- 58:38Speaker 1: in the second. But if you could guarantee me that
- 58:40Speaker 1: I got a Pro Bowl cornerback in a Pro Bowl
- 58:42Speaker 1: wide receiver with my first two pis I'm just saying that.
- 58:44Speaker 1: But from an ordin arthodox level, He's right, it would
- 58:48Speaker 1: be unorthodox if they picked two cornerbacks in the first round.
- 58:51Speaker 1: But like, there there's an upside to that was a
- 58:55Speaker 1: silly call. You know, there is an upside to make
- 58:57Speaker 1: your defense like the best in the I just think
- 59:00Speaker 1: that there's a certain is there. I think there's a
- 59:03Speaker 1: point of no return with defense, and yet you just
- 59:06Speaker 1: you can't play that good at like you can't be
- 59:09Speaker 1: that good at defense, but scoring on it's not hockey.
- 59:11Speaker 1: Your goal can't be to allow fewer points than the
- 59:14Speaker 1: other teams in that league. You have to be able
- 59:18Speaker 1: to score at some point. But we're going we got
- 59:21Speaker 1: Bill O'Brien, now we got Schuster. We're really counting on
- 59:25Speaker 1: Bill O'Brien to do a lot. Well, those articles are
- 59:28Speaker 1: out now, he's the pressure that's on Bill. I don't
- 59:31Speaker 1: think there's pressure on him necessarily, but there's just I
- 59:35Speaker 1: think it's the pressure still squarely on the other Bill.
- 59:37Speaker 1: But yeah, because he didn't buy the groceries. I mean,
- 59:39Speaker 1: to that point, Bill O'Brien, I mean, he's kind have
- 59:42Speaker 1: been handed what he's been handed, Like, you know, I
- 59:45Speaker 1: think more people are going to be looking towards the
- 59:47Speaker 1: personnel than him immediately. But I mean that the only
- 59:51Speaker 1: way that pressure shifts to Bill O'Brien is if they
- 59:53Speaker 1: do draft a receiver. The pressure this year is on
- 59:56Speaker 1: Belichick and match Joe right right now, Bill O'Brien just
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: has to fix Mac Jones, right like somewhat get them
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: back to where he wants. Yeah, Like, if they don't
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: do anything to improve the offense, why is he supposed
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: to get any more out of it than Josh did? Right?
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: If he gets back, I mean, I know you say
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: it's got to be better than twenty twenty one, but
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: I think that's the bar for Bill O'Brien is get
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: it to twenty twenty one at at a minimum. Now,
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: who knows, But I agree there's there's some heat on
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: Bill O'Brien because I think the way the fans are,
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: I think the undue expectations that is he worth two wins?
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: Is he worth three wins? Well, but that's what he's
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: been left with because of just kind of a you know,
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: average free agency period. All Right, we're gonna take a break. Faith,
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: you're ready for that. All right, We're gonna take a break.
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: We'll be right back after this. The Network America relies

- 1:08:13Speaker 1: all right. Back to the emails web radio at Patriots
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: dot com, rick And near Louisville, Kentucky says, all this
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: talk of Welker being an a hole to the media
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: has me to pose this question, Could you name the
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: three biggest A holes you've had to deal with that
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: war Patriots uniforms. It really goes to show you how
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: perception can fool you. I never would have guessed Welker
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: was an a hole. I didn't say he was an
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: a hole because I can't speak from experience. I said
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: that he was tough. Yeah, he could be, he could
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: be p snicky. Brian Stork was one of the biggest jerks.
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: Heard a lot of that. Yeah, real, Like I don't know,
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: like if someone told him, don't be nice to the media,
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: but he took it to a next level, like next
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: level stuff. Um, and I don't know what he's like otherwise,
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: I just know to us he was a real jerk. Yeah,
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: Bruski could be mercurial. You get him one day to
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: offer your pizza. The next day he's you know, get
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: the hell away from me. You know, he could be tough.
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: I just think a lot of football players have that
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: edge to them, and I don't really hold that against him.
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: I don't hold it against I'm just saying that way.
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: I just find it hard guys who just aren't interesting
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: and don't give you anything, and you know, you're just
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: you're trying to. There's a lot of those guys that
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: just That's why when you get somebody like a Matthew
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: Judeon who has just personality and you know, you know
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: when he's gonna talk that, oh there's gonna be some
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: fun going on and he's gonna have something to say,
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: you know, whereas some of the other guys are just like, no,
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: I'm just getting ready for the too game, you know.
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: I'm just studying like that's you know, it's like there's
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: nothing stuff so much harder. I mean, yeah, Matt, I
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: mean Max, he's probably a prime one of just you know,
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: give us a little something, you know, I mean, I
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: know it's part of the job at quarterback. I mean
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: Tom was similarly kind of guarded. But you just let
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: to see a little bit about what makes you people.
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: You know, it's off the field stuff that Robin says,
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: worst show ever. It's draft season. Josh and Hatfield says,
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: this is one of the best shows I've heard. Could
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: listen to you guys talk about these things day in
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: and day out. That said, the closer we get to
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: this draft and the more range I see prospects getting,
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: for example, Gonzalez and play for the Patriots, according to Kiper,
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: I'm actually more and more excited. I'm hoping for one
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: of Gonzalez or Witherspoon to drop, or a receiver whose
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: name rhymes with powers. I want to get hurt again,
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: if for no other reason than the excitement factor. I
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: looked Friday. I took Friday off to listen to you
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: guys all night. Do what you guys always do, because
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: you're the best you should have taken Thursday. Yea, Thursday
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: is for night one by the way, So but you
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: can't go on with Friday too. And I get the
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: excitement that comes with the draft, and I have it too,
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: just like everybody else does. But you know what, I
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: I can't think just in terms of those those emails,
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: the dueling emails, I can't think of anything I'd rather
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: listen to less than so, well, do you think you
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: think Gonzales first round or did they go Flowers? Like,
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: I don't worry because catch twenty two will be all
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: all drafts. So people that want the draft to say,
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: what I'm saying is I don't have any problem with
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: all draft. I understand it's necessary. It's a necessary evil
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: in my mind. But like, in terms of listening to
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: people talk about different topics, the draft would be so
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: far down the list of things that I want to
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: hear about, Like unless, well, special guest today is Matt
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: grow and Bill Belichick. They're going to talk about the draft, Like,
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: now I'm in? Can we put I have someone who
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: knows what they're talking about? But I think I'm in
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: and I think you know to your point, you guys
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: are both voters. We all have lived here our whole lives.
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: We know this team in center out, so I think,
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: you know, for the people like this is where else
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: are you're gonna go for that first hour, You're not
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: going to get to hear from two of the voters.
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: So and that's why it works. Well, that's why you
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: gotta first hours this and then you know, Evan and
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: laughing though, Mike, because probably second on the list of
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: things I'd like to hear about the least Hall of
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: Fame talk, I'm with you. I go with Fred and
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: I are very like minded when it comes to the
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: Hall of Fame, which you know is kind of interesting
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: because we disagree on so many things. What's the rule
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: of thumb, Fred small Hall, You know it when you
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: see it right right when you watch a guy play.
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: If you have to have a big discussion for a guy,
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: he shouldn't be in. Yeah, but back into the three. Yeah,
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: there's there's some wiggle room too. Yeah. And you know,
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: team Hall of Fame as opposed to Pro Football totally
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: different entity. Like the Pro Football Hall of Fame is
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: for the the greats of the greats, the most talented,
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: impactful players that the league had team Hall of Fame,
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: there should be different criteria in the morning saying that
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: Devin mccordy should be in Canton, and I said, no way,
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: he goes. He dominated during his I go dominated and
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: he started pulling out these stats about how many games
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: he played. But that's not domination. I mean, I love
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: a guy's not at Reid, right, you know, I think
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: domination is related to games played. Rodney to me has
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: a much better case than he absolutely does. For the
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: one thing that always bumps me though, is like, it's
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: a Hall of Fame. And that's what I always like
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: the word fame. It's like your most famous people. Like
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: it doesn't necessarily I know, the implication is that it's
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: the best. It's the best, the Hall of Fame. So
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: there is always a small part of me that says,
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: you know, to change the name. Yeah, the Football Hall
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: of Fame shrines, it's not the Hall of Stats, the
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: Hall of Performance. They didn't do themselves any favors with
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: the safety position in particular in the last five to
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: ten years, because there's some guys that are in now
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: that Devin has just as good of a resume as,
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: if not better. That's right. So if you're gonna let
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: John Lynch, if you're gonna let Brian Dawkins, if you're
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: gonna let those guys into the Hall of Fame. Dawkins
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: I really liked. But um, but I won't be mad
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: if like I mean, obviously I love Devin mccordy's I'm
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: not gonna be mad if he gets HP. But I
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: but if you want to talk about him as a
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: Hall of Fame candidate, I can listen to. Oh sure,
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: But like I've always been brought up that the criteria
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: for the Pro Football Hall of Fame is you dominated
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: at your position during your era, which you know makes
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: you know, concession that the game changes, so you know,
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: like it's so it's during your era. So and I
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: think that's fair, you know, But I think I still
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: think it's a high bar that people still come under.
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: I don't know if he dominated, but Devin in his
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: peak for four or five years, was a top free
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: safety in the league. You know, it's top top three
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: or four. I think there's a lot of guys in
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: the Hall of Fame who did not dominate during their era,
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: and that's the problem. Well, okay, I'm not I'm not
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: even this is not even about last year. Let's say
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: the Green the Packers. Butler, Yeah, Leroy Butler, Right, give
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: me a break, you know, I would all of those
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: guys were really good players. I don't know if they're
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: Hall of famers, like you know, Devin Dawkins, Devin, Like,
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: Devin's a really good player, really good player. Like for me,
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: in this era, if you didn't come close to Ed Reid,
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: then you don't get in as safety. Wow, Ed Reid
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: is the best safety. Maybe okay, he dominated in his era,
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: but he was. I was just gonna say, um, Troy Polamalo, No, Joe,
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: Um Hall of Famer Troy, Yeah, Joe, I know. I
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: mean certainly Polomala was flashy. He'd have those big plays
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: where he'd jump over the pile and all that stuff.
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: Great player, yeah, I guess you'd have to just because
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: just because Brady owned him doesn't mean he wasn't a
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: great player. Hall of famer, like not even a hesitation. Agree,
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: But if you had to look someone yelled at me,
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: I can't agree with you as much as like, who
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: do you think of the legit Patriots Hall of Famers?
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: Though Brady gronk oh for Patriots the last twenty years
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: legit Pro Football Hall of Famers that. I mean, we
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: know Ronk, Vinitary Brady Um, Seymour's in. Obviously Seymour's already in,
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: and now I have to now I have to really
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: think hard, you know, yeah, because because of my criteria,
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: there might be guys that get the Super Bowl push,
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: like you know, maybe a Will Fork who Bill wrote
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: letters on on his behalf and stuff like that. I
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: kind of look at it the same way, you know, mccorney,
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: we just talked about this guy's in this, this guy's
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: in now that I think Devin mccordy can say I
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: was as good as that guy's Rodney for me, like
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: I think Rodney Roy this list with these players that
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: should be, but Rodney should be in more for what
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: he did in his career than yeah right, yeah, he
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: gets he gets the Patriot push. I just feel like
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: the some of these like questionable guys like Vince Wilfork
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: or Rodney or you know, even like a Dante high
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: Tower if they were on another Dynasty team from like
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: thirty or forty years ago. There there we're first ballot
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: Hall of Fame, right, So I at some point that
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: has to take into consideration, right that these guys from
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: like the seventies Steelers or the Niners teams or the
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: Cowboys teams, like all those guys just walked through Waltston.
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: I just don't know enough. I don't like Jack Hamm
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: and Jack Lambert. Were they better than like Dante Hi Tower? Yeah,
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: I don't know. I just don't know enough. Yeah, I
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: know they to make that argument. NFL films really made
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: him look good. It just feels like those guys are
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: equivalent to They were the best defensive players on teams
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: that won multiple Super Bowls. I I don't know enough
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: about how dominant they were either. But a guy like
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: Vince Wilfork was the best defensive player on teams that
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: you know that one Swan, I don't think he was
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: better than Stanley Morgan, right, you know, but Lynn Swan,
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: like you said Walton right, you know, Yeah, he wasn't,
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: but he had the high profile plays in the big moments.
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: I think Edelman will be an interesting like. I don't
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: think he'll get in. I don't really think he's a
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: Hall of Famer, but I think that his playoff performance
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: is something you just you can't ignore what he's done.
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: But is that ultimately going to be enough. Maybe it'll
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: be like a reverse thing. We have such a problem
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: here where it's a log jam of Patriots trying to
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: get in the Patriots Hall of Fame. But maybe things
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: will clear out a little bit also around the league
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: to get into the regular proftball. All right, let's get
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: back to the A sticket outline eight five five Pats
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: five hundred. We'll start with Scott and Wellesley. What's up? Scott, Hey, guys,
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: how are you good? Scott questions? First, I wanted a
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: question with the draft coming up. I wanted to ask
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: Paul looking back at the twenty nineteen draft, now that
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: Damian Harris was signed basically for a deal less than
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: a coal miner, and you know Stidham got shipped off
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: without even getting a chance to get his job, to
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: get a job with the Raiders. He got sent over
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: to Denver, and Billy obviously got cut. Would you say
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: this is the worst draft in the history of the Patriots,
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: And after you just answer that question, I would ask
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: Mike and Evan in question. Matt Jones question, Yeah, I
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: don't know if it's the worst draft ever. Unfortunately they
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: have others to pick from I mean they struggled, They
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: had a five year stretch where they really struggled. I
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: would connect it to what we talked about last show
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: with Evan, where that was I think twenty nineteen was
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: your last chance with Tom Brady if you didn't hit
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: on that draft and get, you know, a really good
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: player to kind of re energize the offense and give
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: him something to work with. So in that regard, it's
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: strangely enough you blames it on Brady. Why why did
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: you blame it on Brady? That's just me, that's me
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: busting balls. Like we all have our show personality there.
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: They're probably a large portion of our fan base that
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: think that I hate Tom Brady. Wow. Wow, there's a
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: large portion of our fan base and things that I
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: hate Bill. So we're good. Sean's in Vancouver, Hey, Sean, Hey,
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: I'm so happy that Scars in the Patriots Hall of Fame.
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: I really appreciate that he deserves it. If I were
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: on the committee that Patriots Hall of Fame selection committee,
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: I'd be looking to Dante's Scarnekia the most in terms
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: of making decisions because he's been there for so long,
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: and those these guys see how they play, and I
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: would really respect his opinion. I think, oh sure, um,
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: you know, and he was on the committee this year,
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: so yeah, Ernie Adams, Right, I listened, you know, and
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: I do. I listen to everybody. I mean, you never
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: know when someone's going to say something that you never
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: thought of. I mean, it sounds stupid, but wouldn't be
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: great out bill him the committee, Like, I mean, talk
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: about a guy who provided some exciting The only thing
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: about it, though, is you know whether it's going to
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: say what I was going to say. They had the
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: bias too, yeah, you know, like every guy that they
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: coach was really great. Now, I do think Dante has
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: a little bit better perspective, but just because of the breath,
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: like thirty plus years, six different head coaches, you know,
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: on an on and on. I'd love to hear his
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: perspective on parcels because he was here right before. Pretty good, Yeah,
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: pretty good. Now, some people in the room didn't think
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: it was as glowing. I thought based on the situation,
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: and we all know what the situation was. We spent
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: forty five minutes talking about the situation. Right, I thought
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: he was pretty positive on a guy that would have
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: been easy to say, well, not committed or you know,
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: ego sometimes got in the way. You know, he's got
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: the thirty thousand foot view. You know, he was here
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: when it was terrible. He was it. He was filling
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: in for the coaches in two win seasons and then
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: and now he's here with Bill. I mean he saw that.
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: And I spoke to somebody on the committee who didn't
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: feel like he was overly glowing. Fred, what were your
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: thoughts you heard him. I don't remember. I thought it
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: was measured. I thought it was measured too, But I
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: was expecting a rip job. Oh, come on, I would
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: never do that. I was expecting a I thought it
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: was pretty positive. Wow, No, I knew. I think if
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: you asked another guy in that committee, it would have
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: been different. Yeah. See, I think that's why, like the
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: email you got earlier where people were saying like this
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: was so ridiculous, Let's like understand, who are the people
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: talking about these guys, like the people to work with
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: them that were, you know, witnessed to this whole thing
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: up close with them. I mean, as much as the
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: media writes about them and interviews them, like these are
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: people who are on the football side of it too,
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: like they saw that aspect of it, which is probably
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: more important. All right, let's go to William and Philam.
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: What's up William? Hey for it? How are you doing?
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: All right? All right? Um, I have to live all
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: some frustration with this team. Um. First of all, I
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: don't know about ever yet. I do hate billing that
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: at this point. I mean, we're four seasons in your
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: favorite Tom has left what since what twenty eighteen nineteen
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: If I'm not mispeaking, Um, we're your roster stinks. And
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: all you did would swap out for for j from
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: Jakoe Mars to Juju and also for um John News
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: I'm John seriously, that's it. And then you got then
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: you got somebody, uh James Robinson. That's it. So you're
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: not gonna go all in on mac on. You got
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: this rookie deal that you wasted basically over you see
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: what his deal gonna be over with at some point
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: what you got maybe next year, and that's it. You
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: can happen for the next three years if they want him.
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: He's under he's under contract for the next three You
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: have control for the next three years. So you got
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: control for the next three years and you still ain't
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: put new talent around that man. Damn is in the facility. Man,
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: he's trying to get better. I think you don't want
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: to load up on because you don't believe in him.
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: I mean, what are we doing here? Seriously? I think
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: Bill should be removed from as a GM. Will you
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: but you don't know what you will? You change your
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: opinion if they draft a receiver with that uh fourteenth pick?
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: But free and not no, not no, just because of
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: a receiver. I do today receiver all that you good?
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: The receiver part. That's where he really thinks that. I
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: don't know what it is so hard I'm out drafting
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: a receiver. I don't not understand billet on how to
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: how to draft a receiver. It's not that damn hard. Sorry,
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: but I'm I'm passionate, but I'm geah, what what if
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: because I hear you on the draft with receivers? What
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: if they trade for Jerry Judy on on draft weekend?
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: I'm just throwing all of the things that make you
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: feel right? What is there something to do? Anything? Is
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: there's something that would make you feel better? And then
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: what if they did that? Thank you kind about making
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: me feel better. I'm making us all still better. I'm not.
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: But we're talking to you. Huh, we're talking to you now, though,
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: I mean, like, what would make you say, Okay, they're
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: trying to help Mac. Okay, you can start, like you said,
- 1:25:05Speaker 1: far as a receiver, Okay, I guess, but rad Ja
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: Ja because he's basically the best between him and I
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: guess maybe Stay Flowers. But I would say Jazzson, I
- 1:25:15Speaker 1: would go with him all the way. He would you
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: get Jason. He's better than all your receivers right now.
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: And that's a damn shame. He's a rookie. I mean,
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: how does that look? Well, I don't, let's take how
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: it looks to be fair though, like that, I like
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: and I'm the last one to defend this point with
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: the Patriots, but there's a lot of teams that take
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: receivers in the first round, and he's there, instantly their
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: best receiver. That's why they took They should like, right,
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: you know they already have When the Eagles took Davante
- 1:25:41Speaker 1: Smith a couple of years ago, he was instantly their
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: best receiver on their team. That's sort of how that works.
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: But Floyd and Redford Michigan says mister fred I'm I'm
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: gonna need you to turn you to be right. Look,
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: mister Paup, throw up in his eyes and tell him
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: he was right about Flon Mack. A report came out
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: that apparently some Patriot players weren't happy about mac Jones
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: being mentioned in trade talks. Question, have you ever, and
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: I mean ever, seen an NFL quarterback defended more by
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: the media, his teammates and half the fan base in
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: Mac Jones? I have never seen anything like it? And
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: ps can we see more of the four eleven twenty
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: three Tamara Brown, she was rolling Tuesday. She was assertive,
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: made strong points, and didn't use too many words. Keep
- 1:26:28Speaker 1: up the good work to Marrow, good job, Tomara, all right,
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: she didn't use a lot of words. I would say
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: with the the Mac thing, like in fairness, like you know,
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: maybe you've never seen anybody get defended like that. In fairness,
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: I've never seen anybody saddled with a defensive coordinator's offensive
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: coordinator either, right, I've never seen it. So you know,
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: even though he was Floyd's on my side, I would
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: still agree that I think there's more. I don't think
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: it's universal, but there's a lot of people that sort
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: of gave maca pass Fred's used car, you know, in
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: these unprecedented times for Mac Jones. I would also say
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: that the nothing grinds my gears quite like the anonymous
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: player scout League exec says, what does that even mean? Like,
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: so we have to have a player in the locker
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: room tell us that that Mac Jones has had a
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: short straw, right we used to be a league exec.
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: We have to have, you know, some anonymous player on
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: the roster who the heck knows who it is, tell
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: us that Mac Jones was saddled with a bad situation
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: last year. Thank you, Thank you, captain. I take these
- 1:27:41Speaker 1: things not surprisingly, do you guys. I take these things
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: in a little bit of a different light because I
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: don't often get bogged down into the specific of the detail. Like, okay,
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: so some guy, like Davin's point, some guy thinks that
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: they did Mac wrong. Okay, whatever. To me. The takeaway,
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: if true, is within the past couple of weeks, they're
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: still talking about last year. They're still like this is
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: still a topic of conversation in the locker room. The
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: players that are still here are still talking about last year.
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: That ain't good like I don't. Like I said, I
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: don't fixate on what they say. The fact that they're
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: saying it at all is not a good sign. We
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: should be on to twenty two. And I think that
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: this is this is on the head coach personally. I
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: really this is probably my biggest gripe with with with
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: Bill out of the all of it, to be honest
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: with you, because he hasn't drafted yet, so I can't
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: get on him for the draft yet. But talk to
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: me in two ways. But I mean, I'm hearing Evan
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: will have a take two weeks from tonight. But the
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: biggest gripe that I have with him is that he
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: has made it a story. Still every time he has
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: gotten the opportunity to talk, he continues to be gruff
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: about it and he continues the story generalize and we
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: talk a lot about you know, things like obviously things
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: that we can't possibly know for certain, but we ask opinion,
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: if you had to guess, do you think Bill has
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: like openly discussed this with the team and said, you
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: know what, probably didn't put us in the in the
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: best position. You don't have to say like rip Matt
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: Patricia and say listen, I tried something with that was
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: a little unconventional and it didn't work, and I apologize
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: for that. We're going to move on. That's behind us.
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: We're gonna move on. If you had to say, I
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: don't think he has because of what the leak the
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: whispers are. If he had, I think it would have
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: been shut down. I agree and that, but that should
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: be to me, that should be part of it. And
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: I don't, like, I don't need Bill to say like
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: a complete Maya culp, but like I willn't. I don't
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: need that. But but what I think it is is
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: important is for him to say last year is in
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: the past. There's things that all of us wish we
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: could do over again. We can't. That's over when moving forward,
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: no more last year. We're moving forward. What we have
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: clean slate, which is so him's to me that needs
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: to be said. Yeah, and if I had to guess,
- 1:30:20Speaker 1: that hasn't been said. But he needs to say what
- 1:30:22Speaker 1: I would say if I was him, and say, listen,
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: last year is what it is. I'm gonna just want
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: to say, I'm always always gonna do what I think
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: is in the best interest of the team. Now, is
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: that always going to be one hundred percent no, but
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: you have my word that I'll always do what's in
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: the best interest of the team. We're onto twenty twenty three.
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: That's it. I just wanted to legit I ask a question. Yes,
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: someone give me an example of a coach who openly
- 1:30:48Speaker 1: did something that wasn't in the best interest of the team,
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: that he knew the worst interest of the team. I know,
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: but that's other another example or an example. He really
- 1:30:57Speaker 1: doesn't Hi, I just I don't clarify I I legitimately
- 1:31:02Speaker 1: think as misguided as it was that Bill thought it
- 1:31:05Speaker 1: could work. I think he did too, of course, Like
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: I just want to know, who's the guy that said,
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: you know what I'm gonna do, I'm gonna get Parillo. Yeah,
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: because he'll screw it up royally. I'm gonna make him
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: in charge of the offense. Well, right, and so obviously
- 1:31:20Speaker 1: he's always going to do what's in the bestage of
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: the team. But he ain't always right, and that's what
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: he's saying. And at the end of the day, you
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: get rid of a coach because he's just making bad decisions.
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: You're not saying that he's doing it maliciously. He's just
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: he's just not doing it, you know. And I think
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: the fact that I'm but friends getting rid of him
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: just for the record, right, and the fact that the
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: two coaches uh in question are still not gone let's
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: put it that way, or in limbo at least, I mean,
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: one of them is here, one of them is in limbo,
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: the other ones in limbo limbo. Yeah, And I think
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: that to me is that's weird that that hasn't happened,
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: right the Fred yeah, you know, speech to the team
- 1:32:03Speaker 1: hasn't happened. I don't know if it needs to be
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: to the whole team, but I would lately, at the
- 1:32:10Speaker 1: very least it needed to be the match, right J.
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: You know, J. J. Smith Schuster doesn't need to hear that, right,
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: you know. No, But I would really, really really hope
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: that Bill and Mac behind closed doors have had a
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: meeting in Bill's office where Bill says, look, all, you know,
- 1:32:26Speaker 1: the rumors out there are just even if they are true,
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: they're not true. Like, we're not trading you. You're the quarterback.
- 1:32:35Speaker 1: We you know, we got to move on from last year.
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: It didn't work out, It wasn't the right thing to do.
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: He doesn't even need to say I was wrong, just
- 1:32:41Speaker 1: that didn't work out right, or on to this year.
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: You know, Billy's going to coach you up now and
- 1:32:46Speaker 1: we're gonna be fine. Just if that happened then then fine.
- 1:32:51Speaker 1: But the evidence that we have is that that that
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: hasn't happened. And I don't think that it's all of
- 1:32:57Speaker 1: this stuff that's coming out at times, I don't think
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: is just from Bill's camp. I think some of the
- 1:33:03Speaker 1: stuff that has come out has been from Mac Jones.
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: I'm not necessarily saying the trade rumors. I know some
- 1:33:09Speaker 1: people have gone there. I don't necessarily think that, but
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: I think that all this stuff that keeps coming out
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: about how he's here every day and he's working out
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: at you know, Reese had in his Sunday Notes said
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: he's been using the fieldhouse to personally, I think it's
- 1:33:26Speaker 1: a combination of Mac and mister Kraft, and I think
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: the two of those and I think that's synonymous. It's
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: the way it's at Max's camp. It's a push, right,
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: and I think that it's a way to say he's
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: here doing all the right things, he's here working is
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: but off to get better. What what's the head coach
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: doing to make the team better. That was something I
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: said to the guys yesterday we were hanging out. Always said,
- 1:33:53Speaker 1: I think it would be a nice strategy from Mac
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: to come out and publicly omit. I didn't handle it
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: great last year. Just say that, and I think it
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: in some ways kind of makes the heads. Then turns
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: to the coach and say, well, would you be surprised
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: to find out like that Max showed up one day
- 1:34:09Speaker 1: and Bill O'Brien was just there and he's the coach now,
- 1:34:11Speaker 1: and nobody really told him, you know, like like that
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: guy like that wouldn't surprise me. Like everything you laid
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: out makes total sense. It makes sense. Mac Jones found
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: out that Bill O'Brien's the offensive coordinated the same way
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: we did. Yeah, like it's I mean, like I wouldn't
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: be that surprised, Like like he just comes in and like,
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: oh hey, and so it's true. Yeah, it's you know,
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: like it wouldn't surprise me. Everything Evan said is true,
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: everything Paul said is true. And that's so Bill. He
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: and it's something that I've admired about him. I've said
- 1:34:36Speaker 1: it before. It's just being able to focus in the moment,
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: and put the past behind you and not rely on
- 1:34:41Speaker 1: it for better or worse. Those things are going by
- 1:34:43Speaker 1: the wayside, left and right, and we can talk about
- 1:34:45Speaker 1: other examples of it as well. He can do it
- 1:34:47Speaker 1: like the reason that and I've said this a million
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: times about him, his ability to the most important thing
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: is tomorrow's practice. Yes, yep, he I think he could
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: still do that. That's why I haven't cut ties with
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: the coach. I still think he can coach, but I
- 1:35:05Speaker 1: don't think if him. I don't think he understands that
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: times change and players change, and I think attitudes change,
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: and quite frankly, there's probably a little bit more sensitivity
- 1:35:14Speaker 1: in his locker room than there was twenty years ago. Right,
- 1:35:17Speaker 1: it's just a matter of it's just like the sign
- 1:35:19Speaker 1: of the times. It doesn't make it right or wrong.
- 1:35:22Speaker 1: As somebody, I agree with you, and I also would
- 1:35:26Speaker 1: say that he might be able to turn the page to,
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: you know, tomorrow's practice. But the press conference he held
- 1:35:34Speaker 1: at the owner's meetings tells me that he's still pissed. Yeah,
- 1:35:37Speaker 1: it just it had written all over his face when
- 1:35:40Speaker 1: he was sitting there talking about these things. And so
- 1:35:43Speaker 1: he's got to move on to everybody's got to move on.
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: Everybody does, and I think Mac would have that moment
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: that Mike is describing of last year. I didn't handle
- 1:35:52Speaker 1: myself great. I actually think that he has that type
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: of accountability in him. But I can see him doing that,
- 1:35:57Speaker 1: but first time he talks to us. And I'm not
- 1:35:59Speaker 1: saying publicly that Bill needs to go first, but privately
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: Bill needs to go first on that point because I
- 1:36:05Speaker 1: think that Mac needs might need to be a little
- 1:36:08Speaker 1: bit swede. If he came out Mac and said, you know, yeah,
- 1:36:13Speaker 1: I you know, last year I could have handled myself better.
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: But believe it or not, I learned a lot and
- 1:36:18Speaker 1: mostly about myself, and that makes me even more ready
- 1:36:22Speaker 1: for this season. You get a lot of oh my god,
- 1:36:24Speaker 1: people would be like, uh, you know, there'd be any
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: more adoration anyway. What if, like I'm just thinking, like
- 1:36:34Speaker 1: that whole locker room dynamic how we started this, would it?
- 1:36:38Speaker 1: Would it stun you? If, like Kendrick Bourne is like
- 1:36:41Speaker 1: talking to Juju Smith, Houston's like, you won't believe the
- 1:36:44Speaker 1: poop that went on here last year. I mean they
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: would do an X, Y and Z. I mean you
- 1:36:48Speaker 1: should have seen how they were trying to teach the Shanahans,
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: you know whatever, you know, like would would that stunt you? No? No,
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: But it made me think of it when you said,
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: like Juju Smith Schuster doesn't need to hear Bill right,
- 1:37:00Speaker 1: take some accountability. But you just wonder, like Mike goes
- 1:37:06Speaker 1: in and listens to what we went on last year
- 1:37:07Speaker 1: and you're like, I can't believe we lost this team
- 1:37:09Speaker 1: even with Skyler Thompson playing quarterbacks. I do think that
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: this also the whole just energy around the team. If
- 1:37:19Speaker 1: you hit on a draft pick in the first round
- 1:37:21Speaker 1: and that guy comes in here day one of mini camp,
- 1:37:24Speaker 1: day one of training camp and Zay Flowers just dunking
- 1:37:26Speaker 1: on everybody, that all of this type of stuff will
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: go away. Yeah, you know, Bill O'Brien's here. They have
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: a great receiver now that everybody's you know sometimes you
- 1:37:37Speaker 1: get that right guy. Yeah, I don't know about any
- 1:37:40Speaker 1: of this crap. I'm just going out. Yeah. I think
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: that's what colors like William are discounting. They're already given
- 1:37:45Speaker 1: up on the draft and it hasn't even happened yet.
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: There's there there are drafts I think for all of
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: us that will exist that we will be like I
- 1:37:50Speaker 1: think they nailed it. Will they will see how the
- 1:37:53Speaker 1: guys work out. But at least when we're talking Saturday's
- 1:37:56Speaker 1: show and the bulk of the draft is done now,
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: I will say spread. I always say, like you know
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: you'll get universal You won't get universal approval like sight
- 1:38:04Speaker 1: unseen again, No, like like you did in the old days. Well,
- 1:38:08Speaker 1: I think that's a big thing, Paul, that I keep
- 1:38:09Speaker 1: going back to, and I'm trying to think in my
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: head in between this conversation of other bold, unorthodox decisions
- 1:38:14Speaker 1: that Bill has made. And I know there are probably
- 1:38:17Speaker 1: examples that I can I can't think of off the
- 1:38:19Speaker 1: top of my head, but this was by far the
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: most unorthodox, the most bold, and it was it was
- 1:38:26Speaker 1: risky because of where you're at as a franchise. I mean,
- 1:38:28Speaker 1: you're kind of teetering on that edge if you're how
- 1:38:30Speaker 1: do you get back up to that hump. That's the
- 1:38:32Speaker 1: biggest thing to me as well. Tough time to make that,
- 1:38:35Speaker 1: to make that call. That's just so I believe we
- 1:38:38Speaker 1: can do it. I believe we're going to be able
- 1:38:39Speaker 1: to put together not just a I mean, in his mind,
- 1:38:42Speaker 1: not just a functional offense, but an offense that's going
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: to take us to another new level with Mac Jones
- 1:38:47Speaker 1: and Justin in La writes, with all this drama being
- 1:38:51Speaker 1: brought to the forefront, I just keep thinking back to
- 1:38:53Speaker 1: Fred's saying Trevor Lawrence should sue the Jags for how
- 1:38:56Speaker 1: he was handling. If anyone has a case, it's Mac.
- 1:38:59Speaker 1: I know it's jokes, but this is a complete mess.
- 1:39:02Speaker 1: Similar to Evan, I had my three strikes for Bill,
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: except my first one was the handling of the Eagle
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: Super Bowl. I don't mind coach Bill, but my question
- 1:39:10Speaker 1: is do you think Kraft would take the GM reins
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: back from Bill? And do you think Bill would go
- 1:39:15Speaker 1: for it? I feel someone like a Nick Cassario was
- 1:39:18Speaker 1: a good balance for Bill. Paul's guy. They had some
- 1:39:20Speaker 1: of the worst draft for Nick. Here. What were talking
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: about him? Say that? Like somebody said at the combine?
- 1:39:28Speaker 1: They were John mcclin Any I mean John mcclin said
- 1:39:31Speaker 1: that there was rumor at the combine that suggested that
- 1:39:37Speaker 1: after the draft, Nickossario will be coming back to Foxborough,
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: maybe he'll be getting let go in Houston. Did somebody
- 1:39:43Speaker 1: tell macro and the uh now in fairness and full disclosure.
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: John mcclin also said he did not believe said rumor.
- 1:39:54Speaker 1: He did not believe that would happen. He said that
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: the mcnairs are happy with Nickossario and he won't be
- 1:39:59Speaker 1: going anywhere. That part. It is more important to me
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: because that guy knows what he's talking about with that team.
- 1:40:05Speaker 1: You know, he was the top all time the pregame
- 1:40:09Speaker 1: show guest. Oh yes, everybody else just fights for a second.
- 1:40:13Speaker 1: Some of them don't seem to like the fact that
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: they don't have a chance to win first place. Those
- 1:40:17Speaker 1: are the best ones. Now. He's been around, and he
- 1:40:20Speaker 1: is as tapped in as any of the not just throwing.
- 1:40:23Speaker 1: I mean, I mean you always say it when Reese
- 1:40:25Speaker 1: writ yeah Neil and new Brunswick. I must say, I'm
- 1:40:30Speaker 1: very impressed with how many people are coming over to
- 1:40:32Speaker 1: the dark side of actually blaming Bill Belichick. That used
- 1:40:36Speaker 1: to be sacrilege with Patriot's Nation. I have one comment
- 1:40:39Speaker 1: and one more likely question. The comment is if Matt fails,
- 1:40:44Speaker 1: it is his fault. However, that's on Bill too. He
- 1:40:47Speaker 1: drafted him, and it has to have more repercussions. She's
- 1:40:50Speaker 1: just missing on a second round corner when other gms
- 1:40:53Speaker 1: miss on their franchise quarterback, it usually means their job.
- 1:40:57Speaker 1: So what was more like? What is more likely Bill
- 1:41:00Speaker 1: gets the Patriots back to an AFC Championship game appearance
- 1:41:03Speaker 1: or Robert moves on from Bill prior to Bill breaking
- 1:41:06Speaker 1: the coaching win record. B Unfortunately it's a really good
- 1:41:14Speaker 1: peu pole. Yeah. Yeah, I mean it's because of the
- 1:41:23Speaker 1: AFC is so tough, right, I'm gonna shock you and
- 1:41:26Speaker 1: say that the AFC Championship because I just think that
- 1:41:28Speaker 1: they're gonna let him break that record. Yeah. I don't
- 1:41:31Speaker 1: think he's going anywhere. I mean at some point that
- 1:41:35Speaker 1: if they win six games and I listen, I agree.
- 1:41:38Speaker 1: I think the record is kind of silly. To be
- 1:41:41Speaker 1: honest with you, I think it'd be cool. I don't
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: really see what that does for us as an organization,
- 1:41:46Speaker 1: Like does that allow us to you know, maximize that
- 1:41:50Speaker 1: on Patriots dot com. But we're gonna be writing sonnets
- 1:41:53Speaker 1: on Patriots dot competition, drafting the all times, but well
- 1:41:58Speaker 1: to people like but like every the average NFL fan,
- 1:42:03Speaker 1: do you think who do you think is a better coach?
- 1:42:05Speaker 1: Don Shuler, Bill Belichick? I don't think average NFL fan, No, question,
- 1:42:09Speaker 1: Bill Belichick, So who cares? Yeah, right right? You know
- 1:42:13Speaker 1: it's like, I mean Andy Reid, like if he, if
- 1:42:16Speaker 1: he stays healthy, he'll break the record if he you know,
- 1:42:21Speaker 1: with Mahomes and everything in Mahome, if Mahomes stays healthy.
- 1:42:24Speaker 1: How far behind is he? He's kind of old, pretty far. No,
- 1:42:27Speaker 1: he's not that as old as you think he is,
- 1:42:29Speaker 1: Andy Reid. I think he's like sixty one, right, boy,
- 1:42:33Speaker 1: there was a way I could you have that duce?
- 1:42:35Speaker 1: Maybe physique? Okay, he just turned sixty and how many
- 1:42:41Speaker 1: but more importantly, how many wins behind is he? Let's
- 1:42:44Speaker 1: hopefully while you're looking you got it? Yeah, all right,
- 1:42:50Speaker 1: while you're looking that up, we'll go back to the phones.
- 1:42:52Speaker 1: Vinnie's in Vegas. What's up? N Hey guys, how's it going? Hey?
- 1:43:02Speaker 1: You know, I am um ten years. I am with Deus.
- 1:43:06Speaker 1: I think that I'm gonna give Bill another year. I
- 1:43:10Speaker 1: mean I'm not. I'm also with you know, with Heaven.
- 1:43:14Speaker 1: I don't think that he's infallible anymore. I think last
- 1:43:17Speaker 1: year was you know, was aatrocious. But I am not
- 1:43:21Speaker 1: ready to just say, you know, it's time for us
- 1:43:24Speaker 1: to move on. I think we talked about the first
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: shoot I needed to fall was to get the offensive
- 1:43:29Speaker 1: coordinator right. We got that done, and I'm I'm willing
- 1:43:34Speaker 1: to wait and see for the for the draft and
- 1:43:37Speaker 1: see what they do there. And you know, I'm not
- 1:43:38Speaker 1: ready to just say, look, put ties be done. I
- 1:43:42Speaker 1: think we can still turn around things this year. Now.
- 1:43:44Speaker 1: We might not be contenders, but I think there's a
- 1:43:48Speaker 1: possibility that things look better we draft you know, a
- 1:43:52Speaker 1: couple of good prospects, and that we can move forward.
- 1:43:56Speaker 1: So I have another question for you guys, if that's okay,
- 1:43:59Speaker 1: too okay, So the question I have is, um, you know,
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: we've talked about JSN, We've talked about Say Flowers, and
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: I agree with those two guys. You know, Say Flowers
- 1:44:09Speaker 1: I think will be great Patriot. But it doesn't seem
- 1:44:13Speaker 1: like we've talked too much about Jordan Addison. And I'm
- 1:44:15Speaker 1: wondering if it's because you guys don't think that he's
- 1:44:19Speaker 1: great or because he might not be available at you know, fourteen.
- 1:44:24Speaker 1: I think he's definitely available. I mean, I think, I mean,
- 1:44:27Speaker 1: I just say, for me, I loved him out of
- 1:44:29Speaker 1: the gate, and then I just I think he's he's Okay,
- 1:44:30Speaker 1: I think he's a nice you know, probably day two
- 1:44:33Speaker 1: kind of a consolation. I think the other guys moved
- 1:44:35Speaker 1: the needle more for me, just with specific skill sets.
- 1:44:38Speaker 1: I think to me, Jordan Addison kind of has a
- 1:44:40Speaker 1: little bit of everybody but isn't great at any one
- 1:44:43Speaker 1: particular thing. I think they all have kind of questions
- 1:44:45Speaker 1: about are they big enough, are they gonna be able
- 1:44:47Speaker 1: to get away from, you know, NFL corners. But I
- 1:44:49Speaker 1: think he's fine. I mean, I still got him on,
- 1:44:52Speaker 1: you know, as one of my guys on the big board.
- 1:44:53Speaker 1: But yeah, I just there's not a lot getting sexy
- 1:44:56Speaker 1: about him really that gets you excited. But yeah, I
- 1:44:58Speaker 1: think that's all fair. I think that they're big sing
- 1:45:00Speaker 1: with him is that with his frame only being one
- 1:45:03Speaker 1: hundred and seventy pounds or something like that, he doesn't
- 1:45:06Speaker 1: burst off the line of scrimmage the way that you
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: guys are going to get him really want him too,
- 1:45:11Speaker 1: so there, and he doesn't beat press the way that
- 1:45:13Speaker 1: you would want him to do either. So a guy
- 1:45:16Speaker 1: like Davante Smith, for example, when he comes off the
- 1:45:18Speaker 1: line of scrimmage, he's shot out of a cannon, right,
- 1:45:20Speaker 1: So he might not have the forty time that some
- 1:45:24Speaker 1: of these quicker, faster guys have, but his ten yards
- 1:45:27Speaker 1: split would probably have been pretty darn good going into
- 1:45:30Speaker 1: the draft. And I think with Addison, he's just kind
- 1:45:32Speaker 1: of has modest acceleration, modest burst off the line, and
- 1:45:36Speaker 1: with his frame, you do worry. Now. I think a
- 1:45:38Speaker 1: really good offensive coordinator, which I think the Patriots have,
- 1:45:41Speaker 1: will find a way to get him away from contact
- 1:45:45Speaker 1: right and get him, you know, off coverage and get
- 1:45:47Speaker 1: him away from press coverage as often as possible, and
- 1:45:50Speaker 1: then he could be a really effective player. But he's
- 1:45:53Speaker 1: not going to be able to play through contact like
- 1:45:54Speaker 1: some of these other guys. Just a clarification. The first
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: list I pulled up was just the regular season, full
- 1:46:00Speaker 1: whole playoff, all the wins. He's sixty wins behind Bill Belichick.
- 1:46:03Speaker 1: Right now, that's a lot. That's not He could do
- 1:46:06Speaker 1: it in less than ten years if Mahomes stays hell,
- 1:46:09Speaker 1: he's sixty five, okay, so you can have him coaching
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: at seventy five, so he'd be three years coach. Ever, yeah, right,
- 1:46:18Speaker 1: he learned on Tuesday he's gonna have to stop it
- 1:46:21Speaker 1: because could happen. I don't think he'll be coaching in
- 1:46:25Speaker 1: ten years. Okay, Now the argument do it in six years.
- 1:46:30Speaker 1: The argument is do it in less than six. As
- 1:46:32Speaker 1: long as he has Mahomes, he's gonna average thirteen regular
- 1:46:34Speaker 1: season wins a year, right, and probably win at least
- 1:46:37Speaker 1: one playoff game every year. So maybe he could do
- 1:46:40Speaker 1: it in five. He could do it in five years,
- 1:46:42Speaker 1: but that's the other guy has to stop winning two.
- 1:46:45Speaker 1: I know, like he's sixty behind Belichick, right, so at
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: seventy eight behind the record. Yeah, can we go back
- 1:46:53Speaker 1: to Addison real quick? I have a question for duce I,
- 1:46:55Speaker 1: like you Addison his tape at Pittsburgh in twenty one
- 1:47:00Speaker 1: bullet and coff winner sixteen hundred yards unbelievable, Kenny Pickett. Now,
- 1:47:05Speaker 1: their track records suggests that the last couple of years
- 1:47:09Speaker 1: they've they've taken some guys that had better junior seasons
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: to senior seasons wherever you want to call it. So
- 1:47:16Speaker 1: if they follow that trend, then obviously JSN qualifies. But
- 1:47:21Speaker 1: because he was hurt, Addison qualifies just because of the
- 1:47:25Speaker 1: jumping competition from the PAC twelve to the A SEC.
- 1:47:28Speaker 1: So on one's hand, you pause, because well, he faced
- 1:47:31Speaker 1: better Corners in the Pac twelve and he was worse.
- 1:47:34Speaker 1: But on the other hand, if you go off the
- 1:47:35Speaker 1: bullet and a coff year, then he has a conversation
- 1:47:38Speaker 1: as wide receiver one along with Jsnyea. So how much
- 1:47:41Speaker 1: stock do you put into the Pittsburgh tape? I think
- 1:47:44Speaker 1: is a challenge that you have to ask with him.
- 1:47:46Speaker 1: I think it's tough. I mean, I think it's a
- 1:47:48Speaker 1: it's a worthy conversation, especially what Klee Williams at USC
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: really good too. You know, probably will be drafted higher
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: than Kenny Pickt even was. It's hard. And the new
- 1:47:56Speaker 1: offense as well. But then you're talking about he's coming
- 1:47:58Speaker 1: to new offense here. This is a pro offense here,
- 1:48:00Speaker 1: you know, Lincoln Riley, I don't know off my head
- 1:48:02Speaker 1: how pro ready that offense is. Little Ray, what's the
- 1:48:06Speaker 1: matter with you? I don't know. I didn't have some
- 1:48:11Speaker 1: research done and all you guys have done watched every
- 1:48:17Speaker 1: one of these guys fart over the last three years,
- 1:48:19Speaker 1: and you can't tell me what kind of offense I
- 1:48:22Speaker 1: have not. I have not smelled any farts, all right,
- 1:48:25Speaker 1: I know, Evan can tell me. I think Michael Mary,
- 1:48:28Speaker 1: you were ready to smell a fart maybe in that
- 1:48:30Speaker 1: that department. After you saw him up on the thing,
- 1:48:32Speaker 1: that's a good player, he goes, it's a good player, Tim,
- 1:48:37Speaker 1: and Michigan writes in I really don't understand the hate
- 1:48:41Speaker 1: Wes Welker gets when it comes to the Patriots Hall
- 1:48:43Speaker 1: of Fame. We're perfectly comfortable making a head coach who
- 1:48:46Speaker 1: gave up on our franchise as a finalist, but not
- 1:48:48Speaker 1: the slot receiver who probably changed our entire offense in
- 1:48:51Speaker 1: the mid two thousands. I'm convinced Julian Edelman will get
- 1:48:55Speaker 1: into the Hall before Welker, and he didn't even have
- 1:48:57Speaker 1: better stats, not even close. Do you think do you
- 1:49:01Speaker 1: put more value into Moss or Welker? I mean, do
- 1:49:03Speaker 1: you think that that was just kind of like a
- 1:49:05Speaker 1: Bill and Tom thing where it's like a great just
- 1:49:06Speaker 1: combination because they help each other so much. But I mean,
- 1:49:10Speaker 1: but at the same token, again, I can hear that
- 1:49:12Speaker 1: argument if someone wanted to say, I think he benefited
- 1:49:15Speaker 1: greatly from Randy Moss's presence. Again, I disagree with it,
- 1:49:18Speaker 1: but at least that would be football. Like, that's a
- 1:49:22Speaker 1: football argument, right If you said that he played with
- 1:49:25Speaker 1: Moss and then he played with Gronk and those two
- 1:49:27Speaker 1: guys really were the game changers, and he was just
- 1:49:31Speaker 1: I just don't want to hear about Edelman. Then we're
- 1:49:33Speaker 1: going to do that. Yeah, No, Kyle and Pembroke. If
- 1:49:37Speaker 1: the Patriots drafts A Flowers, do you think they would
- 1:49:40Speaker 1: trade Kendrick Bourne and a draft pick to get another
- 1:49:43Speaker 1: second or third round pick. He'd be our fifth wide
- 1:49:46Speaker 1: receiver in the room. And if he stays and it
- 1:49:49Speaker 1: seems like Belichick doesn't like him, I personally prefer he stayed.
- 1:49:52Speaker 1: But I can see this happening. If they drafted how
- 1:49:55Speaker 1: that started the drafts Flowers, someone will go. It would
- 1:49:59Speaker 1: be my guess. I think I will wait till training camp. Yeah,
- 1:50:02Speaker 1: I don't think it'll happen immediately. Well, I mean it
- 1:50:04Speaker 1: could happen in the draft, but my guess is more
- 1:50:08Speaker 1: like we'll see what the offseason looks like, you know.
- 1:50:10Speaker 1: Maybe to be Parker right, I would much rather than
- 1:50:13Speaker 1: do it that way because at least you get into
- 1:50:16Speaker 1: camp and see who kind of wins the job in
- 1:50:19Speaker 1: camp and then trade the cast. You'd also have to see,
- 1:50:21Speaker 1: you know, like say in May and June, what does
- 1:50:24Speaker 1: Taekwon Thornton look like in a year or two, right,
- 1:50:26Speaker 1: can I rely on you to contribute? I mean, in
- 1:50:28Speaker 1: a perfect world, I might say, can we get rid
- 1:50:30Speaker 1: of Parker and put Thornton out there as the every
- 1:50:32Speaker 1: down X go down the field if I if you
- 1:50:34Speaker 1: ask me, everybody can stay but one. Parker would be
- 1:50:39Speaker 1: the guy to go. But I think they love Parker.
- 1:50:42Speaker 1: Danny's in Orlando. What's up, Danny? Hey, how's it going? Hey?
- 1:50:47Speaker 1: How's it going? Guys? Hey? I want to think uh
- 1:50:53Speaker 1: deuce uh In Evan, you guys did some good covers
- 1:50:58Speaker 1: Journey in February. Well not kind carried the shrine coverage myself,
- 1:51:01Speaker 1: but Evan, and now it's trying to get high. I
- 1:51:03Speaker 1: wasn't even out there, but thank you good joke. So
- 1:51:08Speaker 1: I wanted to PI. I wanted to pitch this you guys. Uh.
- 1:51:13Speaker 1: The uh the receivers that are coming up. I really
- 1:51:16Speaker 1: like to the day Flowers get out of Boston College.
- 1:51:19Speaker 1: I would like to see them choose him, but I
- 1:51:21Speaker 1: just I don't know if they actually will. UM. My main,
- 1:51:25Speaker 1: my main thing that I've hurt you guys in the
- 1:51:27Speaker 1: last couple of months talking about receivers and corners and um,
- 1:51:30Speaker 1: I really think that the two hits that we really
- 1:51:33Speaker 1: need to hit his corner obviously and then a receiver.
- 1:51:37Speaker 1: But I'm open to it. Like you guys were talking about,
- 1:51:40Speaker 1: it is getting a really good we can get a
- 1:51:42Speaker 1: really like dominant tight end, like almost like a Travis Kels.
- 1:51:46Speaker 1: I would I'd be happy with that. I mean, as
- 1:51:48Speaker 1: long as he's effective, comes in and you know, it's productive,
- 1:51:53Speaker 1: productive one like Johnny Smith right off the bat. I mean,
- 1:51:56Speaker 1: I don't want them to get a tight end and
- 1:51:57Speaker 1: just use him as a blocker for you know, the
- 1:52:00Speaker 1: next two three years. That's just kind of a weight, right.
- 1:52:02Speaker 1: They definitely they've been sniffing the tight end. It's a
- 1:52:08Speaker 1: great class and I couldn't get on them. Thanks Danny.
- 1:52:12Speaker 1: I actually would really applaud them if they recognize that
- 1:52:15Speaker 1: corner and tight end is so stacked this year in
- 1:52:18Speaker 1: edge rusher too, I would say. And they just said, look,
- 1:52:20Speaker 1: it's just not a year for receivers, because I think
- 1:52:23Speaker 1: that's the general consensus is that this is a little
- 1:52:25Speaker 1: bit of a down year for receivers. But we took
- 1:52:28Speaker 1: top players in top classes at corner, tight end, in edge.
- 1:52:33Speaker 1: I think that's one way of thinking about it. They
- 1:52:36Speaker 1: they brought in Dalton Cancade for a top thirty. Um,
- 1:52:40Speaker 1: they've they've met with pretty much every other tight end.
- 1:52:43Speaker 1: I Tucker Craft, I think, is the other one that
- 1:52:45Speaker 1: they brought in for a top thirty, and they've they've
- 1:52:48Speaker 1: talked to ever all of this this class too. On Craft,
- 1:52:51Speaker 1: I don't know if you saw this. I think it
- 1:52:52Speaker 1: was in the Beast. We got to print that out,
- 1:52:55Speaker 1: thank you. Um that I guess Alabama tried to get
- 1:52:59Speaker 1: Tucker Craft. Yeah, so that was really an interesting nugget
- 1:53:02Speaker 1: that Tucker Craft, who went to South Dakota State, which
- 1:53:07Speaker 1: is where Pierre Strong went, dominated at South Dakota State,
- 1:53:11Speaker 1: which they like. Whenever you're at a lower level and
- 1:53:13Speaker 1: you're a standout, dominant player, they gravitate towards those guys.
- 1:53:17Speaker 1: And apparently Bill O'Brien's already had his eye on him too.
- 1:53:21Speaker 1: So that's somebody that I think if you're starting to
- 1:53:24Speaker 1: think about, now, okay, who could they take at that
- 1:53:26Speaker 1: position in like the third round, I think we've got
- 1:53:29Speaker 1: a lock Tucker Craft into a shortlist. I can already
- 1:53:32Speaker 1: hear the Robert Craft joke being made after that pick
- 1:53:35Speaker 1: was made. He's a fun player. He's got some versatility
- 1:53:38Speaker 1: to him, some yakability, can get up the seam, can
- 1:53:41Speaker 1: block a little. It's guys like him and Schoonmaker that
- 1:53:44Speaker 1: are like developed them They're gonna need a little bit
- 1:53:47Speaker 1: of time. I'm okay with one of those guys, you know,
- 1:53:49Speaker 1: but if they don't get a receiver to your point,
- 1:53:50Speaker 1: I'd love if they got you know, the Jamir Gibbs, Like,
- 1:53:52Speaker 1: I'm okay with like a weapon, if it doesn't have
- 1:53:54Speaker 1: to come in a wide receiver package, if it's a
- 1:53:56Speaker 1: you know, if it is a Dalton Kincaide who just
- 1:53:58Speaker 1: is kind of going to be a moved time end,
- 1:54:00Speaker 1: it is what it is, I would be okay with it. Yeah.
- 1:54:03Speaker 1: I think guys like in Kaid I personally love Sam
- 1:54:05Speaker 1: Laporta from Iowa. Both of those guys just scream Bill
- 1:54:09Speaker 1: O'Brien matchup weapon. Find him a matchup on a linebacker
- 1:54:13Speaker 1: and watch watch the tight end you know, win on
- 1:54:15Speaker 1: in a one on one. That that's Bill. Bill O'Brian's
- 1:54:18Speaker 1: bread and butter is finding those matchups, especially in the
- 1:54:21Speaker 1: middle of the field, for guys that are quick and
- 1:54:24Speaker 1: agile and just quicker than the guys that are covering
- 1:54:27Speaker 1: them and then you just find them space and you
- 1:54:30Speaker 1: get it up, get it to them and let it work. Yeah,
- 1:54:32Speaker 1: and I think that Kincaid definitely would fit that Bill. Yeah,
- 1:54:35Speaker 1: it's gonna be a very very interesting Thursday night always. Yeah,
- 1:54:39Speaker 1: it's gonna be a great show. I can't wait. I
- 1:54:42Speaker 1: just think, like you can wait. That does stink, But
- 1:54:46Speaker 1: I I just think if you're a true football fan,
- 1:54:48Speaker 1: I mean, it's the lifeblood of the NFL. And it's
- 1:54:50Speaker 1: even just aside from the Patriots issues and needs and
- 1:54:52Speaker 1: all those things, it's it's just exciting when you get
- 1:54:54Speaker 1: these players in. I mean, you know, guys like Joe
- 1:54:56Speaker 1: Burrow coming to the league you don't realize and all
- 1:54:58Speaker 1: of a sudden they're superstars and and kind of changing
- 1:55:00Speaker 1: the whole dynamic of the league. Is say Flowers getting
- 1:55:02Speaker 1: as much hype outside of New England as he is
- 1:55:05Speaker 1: in New England, I would I would ask Evin, I
- 1:55:08Speaker 1: think the wide receiver and teams yeah are in on him.
- 1:55:13Speaker 1: Like I know. It's I always say it sounds crazy
- 1:55:15Speaker 1: because if they have Stefon Diggs, but the Bills want
- 1:55:18Speaker 1: Zay Flowers, like the Bills fandom is all over Za
- 1:55:21Speaker 1: Flowers as well, and they need that. Yeah, they need
- 1:55:24Speaker 1: a number two receiver. Yeah, now absolutely. I think that's
- 1:55:27Speaker 1: a big thing though. Is a is that he would
- 1:55:30Speaker 1: be great in that offense next to Stefon Diggs? Is
- 1:55:33Speaker 1: he a number one guy that can come here and
- 1:55:35Speaker 1: do it all by himself? Not all by himself, but
- 1:55:38Speaker 1: he would have to be the number one in Juju's
- 1:55:40Speaker 1: Now the number two Juju is not, you know, going
- 1:55:43Speaker 1: to be the number one in that formula. So that
- 1:55:46Speaker 1: that's the one question with this whole receiver classes. Are
- 1:55:49Speaker 1: these guys truly number one guys or are they really
- 1:55:53Speaker 1: more like that number two complimentary skill set type of player.
- 1:55:58Speaker 1: Quickly around the room before we wrap up this show
- 1:56:01Speaker 1: and get ready for catch twenty two, which is coming
- 1:56:04Speaker 1: up next. If you had to pick one position right now,
- 1:56:07Speaker 1: first round pick, let's assume the Patriots stay where they are.
- 1:56:11Speaker 1: Who what position are they choosing? Tackle? Tackle? You're going conservative?
- 1:56:17Speaker 1: I mean, that's not what I'm what I mean if
- 1:56:19Speaker 1: you ask me what I would a safe perceiver, but
- 1:56:21Speaker 1: I'm gonna say tackle because of the talent of it
- 1:56:24Speaker 1: that might be available. Yeah, evan tackle, tackle boring biggest
- 1:56:31Speaker 1: need no, no, what position will they pick? I really,
- 1:56:38Speaker 1: I really have no idea. None of us have any idea. No,
- 1:56:43Speaker 1: But like I think the biggest need is tackle. I
- 1:56:46Speaker 1: don't really think it's that close to the next one.
- 1:56:51Speaker 1: So I'll say tackle just because I think it's the
- 1:56:53Speaker 1: biggest deed and I think generally that's what they do.
- 1:56:56Speaker 1: I would say tackle, cornerback. I just I think as
- 1:56:58Speaker 1: much as I would be all in for Za Flowers
- 1:57:01Speaker 1: at fourteen, I don't. I don't think it's a wide receiver,
- 1:57:04Speaker 1: and so you can pencil it in they'll pick a
- 1:57:06Speaker 1: wide receiver just because I said that. But corner I would,
- 1:57:09Speaker 1: I would love. I almost said corner, Yeah, I would.
- 1:57:13Speaker 1: I think it's gonna be tackle too, but I think
- 1:57:16Speaker 1: if not tackle, it will be corner. Yeah. If Kristen
- 1:57:19Speaker 1: Gonzalez fell or they got down and grabbed Deante Banks,
- 1:57:23Speaker 1: those those guys, all right, that's gonna do it for
- 1:57:26Speaker 1: this edition of Patriots Unfiltered. Like I said before, Catch
- 1:57:30Speaker 1: twenty two is up next, and I've got a feeling
- 1:57:34Speaker 1: that Evan and Alex will be talking about the draft
- 1:57:37Speaker 1: a little bit. Thank Thank you for downloading this podcast.
