• 1:03
SPEAKER_00: Trust me, do yourself a favor and head to Matso's Brewery.
• 1:06
SPEAKER_00: Alright, on to today's episode.
• 1:08
  SPEAKER_00: Guess where I am?
• 1:09
SPEAKER_00: I am in New York, baby.
• 1:12
  SPEAKER_00: That's right.
• 1:13
SPEAKER_00: I have been here in New York.
• 1:14
SPEAKER_00: I had to wake up this morning to quickly get this episode out.
• 1:17
SPEAKER_00: I have been on the biggest high because I came to New York to attend a women's business workshop yesterday here in Brooklyn.
• 1:25
SPEAKER_00: I did have some other things that I needed to get done in LA, but one of my American sisters bought me a ticket to New York and I had to attend this event, this women's business workshop held by Jess Williamson.
• 1:36
SPEAKER_00: She is a business coach.
• 1:37
SPEAKER_00: She had the genius idea to have a women's workshop, a personal branding workshop where hundreds of women, I don't even know the number, I feel like it was at least over 200 people.
• 1:47
SPEAKER_00: 200 women flying over from all around the world to attend this workshop, a one-day workshop, plus the VIP dinner in Brooklyn.
• 1:55
  SPEAKER_00: And that was yesterday.
• 1:56
SPEAKER_00: You can hear it in my voice.
• 1:57
SPEAKER_00: I am still incredibly pumped.
• 1:59
SPEAKER_00: And so I'm just coming down off this massive high.
• 2:01
SPEAKER_00: And I wanted to talk to you today about AAA.
• 2:04
SPEAKER_00: It's something, it's the teacher in me.
• 2:07
  SPEAKER_00: Having alliteration, it's like a thing.
• 2:10
  SPEAKER_00: Audacity, authenticity, and ambition.
• 2:13
SPEAKER_00: I'm always banging on about authenticity in particular.
• 2:16
SPEAKER_00: But lately I've been starting to pick up on the words audacity, and a lot of that has come from Z Scott, who was a marriage celebrant and MC that I interviewed, and her podcast episode is probably maybe two months ago.
• 2:29
SPEAKER_00: And that was her word of last year.
• 2:31
SPEAKER_00: And I thought, you know what?
• 2:32
  SPEAKER_00: Audacity.
• 2:33
SPEAKER_00: For me, the circles that I kind of operate in, I get it, but I don't really hear it that often.
• 2:38
SPEAKER_00: And then Jess Williamson seems to say it all the time.
• 2:41
SPEAKER_00: People that are in her network seem to say it.
• 2:43
SPEAKER_00: And I'm thinking, audacity, that's a fabulous word because to have audacity actually means having confidence, but believing in yourself also to do something that is so out there that you just never know what's gonna happen.
• 2:57
SPEAKER_00: That's my take on the word audacity.
• 3:00
SPEAKER_00: You know, some people might think, oh God, if you know, to have the audacity to have something means that you could be stuck up or bold or rude in some type of way.
• 3:09
  SPEAKER_00: I don't mean it like that.
• 3:10
SPEAKER_00: Ambition, that is my third favorite A-word at the moment.
• 3:13
SPEAKER_00: And to have ambition, you're gonna go places, you're gonna go far if you have ambition.
• 3:18
SPEAKER_00: Having ambition means that you're gonna get out there, get out of your comfort zone, and actually attempt to achieve something that's just, it's been on your mind, it's been on your plate, it's on your bucket list.
• 3:28
SPEAKER_00: It's something that you're wanting to set out for yourself to see if you can achieve it.
• 3:33
SPEAKER_00: I wanted to say today's episode, yeah, it's probably gonna be me going off on a tangent, but that's okay.
• 3:39
SPEAKER_00: I just thought while I'm still on this high from yesterday, I wanted to talk to you a little bit about some of the incredible women that I met and networking.
• 3:47
SPEAKER_00: Networking alone is worth its weight in gold.
• 3:51
SPEAKER_00: And I know that people have this, you know, your network is your net worth, whatever that saying is.
• 3:56
SPEAKER_00: I don't even, I'm not even talking about that.
• 3:58
SPEAKER_00: I'm talking about putting yourself out there, talking to people that you possibly would never talk to in your entire life.
• 4:04
SPEAKER_00: Some of the women yesterday, I mean, a lot of the women yesterday were millionaires.
• 4:09
  SPEAKER_00: I am certainly not a millionaire.
• 4:11
SPEAKER_00: And I think some people might or could be a little bit intimidated by that.
• 4:15
  SPEAKER_00: I don't see that.
• 4:16
SPEAKER_00: I don't see somebody and go, oh my gosh, this is a millionaire, or oh my gosh, this is an influencer.
• 4:21
SPEAKER_00: Don't get me wrong, there are some people that I'm certainly fangirling over.
• 4:24
SPEAKER_00: I mean, Jen Gottlieb, I've read her book Be Seen.
• 4:27
SPEAKER_00: I was just incredibly fangirling to even be in the same room as her.
• 4:31
  SPEAKER_00: So yes.
• 4:32
SPEAKER_00: And then of course, there is the ever-esscent, let's just say vivacious, Annalise McCarthy.
• 4:38
SPEAKER_00: I went to her event a couple of months ago in Perth when she did the You're on Mute Tour.
• 4:43
  SPEAKER_00: Incredible, fantastic.
• 4:44
SPEAKER_00: I'm fangirling over her every day of the week.
• 4:46
SPEAKER_00: She is a professional public speaking coach, and the way that she gets you to sort of think about, you know, your words, your pauses, the way that you talk to people in general.
• 4:57
SPEAKER_00: It's just, I'm I was just, I saw her, I saw the fact that she was going to be there, and that was like another reason why I was like, I've got to go to this event.
• 5:05
  SPEAKER_00: VRP dinner, absolute magic.
• 5:08
SPEAKER_00: Only 40 women, capped at 40 women.
• 5:10
SPEAKER_00: So it wasn't like, you know, 300 women trying to fight for space and sound and presence.
• 5:15
SPEAKER_00: There was only 40 women.
• 5:16
SPEAKER_00: I've got to hand it to Jess.
• 5:18
SPEAKER_00: She planned this event to the T, and it really did show.
• 5:22
SPEAKER_00: It was such a warm and inviting space that they had at the Hamilton Loft in Brooklyn here.
• 5:27
SPEAKER_00: You were able to talk to people that you possibly wouldn't, I guess, have the courage or the nerve or even the opportunity to speak to.
• 5:34
SPEAKER_00: To surround yourself with these sorts of women and bold, ambitious women that are making some serious career moves and sh, you know, succeeding in what they're setting out.
• 5:45
  SPEAKER_00: I love it.
• 5:46
SPEAKER_00: Everything about that, I want to say to you as you're listening to this and you're thinking, Jesus Emma, you need to calm down.
• 5:52
SPEAKER_00: I can hear it in your voice, you've gone nuts.
• 5:54
  SPEAKER_00: I'll admit it, I've gone nuts.
• 5:56
SPEAKER_00: Do that thing that gives you this energy.
• 5:59
SPEAKER_00: Trust me, I'm not saying go out there and book a ticket to Brooklyn.
• 6:01
SPEAKER_00: I'm certainly not saying that.
• 6:03
SPEAKER_00: But what I am saying is, is if there is something out there that you've wanted to do, whether it's go to a particular event, go to a networking event, even something smaller, like go to an event where there could be the potential to even just present in front of someone.
• 6:19
  SPEAKER_00: Do it.
• 6:20
  SPEAKER_00: Do it.
• 6:20
SPEAKER_00: I can't stress enough because this energy and this flow and effect from just surrounding myself with ambitious women and women that genuinely support other women.
• 6:30
SPEAKER_00: And it doesn't just have to be in business, it could be just in life.
• 6:34
SPEAKER_00: That's who I want to surround myself with.
• 6:36
SPEAKER_00: It's something that I'm really becoming incredibly passionate about.
• 6:40
SPEAKER_00: I'm wanting to surround myself around women that will cheer you on.
• 6:44
SPEAKER_00: And I'm not saying I need everyone to blow smoke up my ass.
• 6:47
SPEAKER_00: Anybody that knows me knows I'm not a fan of that.
• 6:49
SPEAKER_00: If I'm being a dickhead, tell me.
• 6:52
SPEAKER_00: But my point is, if you are surrounding yourself with women that genuinely want to see you succeed, that's a good thing.
• 7:00
SPEAKER_00: If you've got people in your circle that are doubting you, that aren't giving you constructive feedback, that are consistently coming at you like a negative tsunami, get rid of them.
• 7:11
  SPEAKER_00: I'm sorry.
• 7:12
SPEAKER_00: I feel like, you know, I've surrounded myself with some pretty powerful women in this past month.
• 7:17
  SPEAKER_00: Coach Carly, Tick.
• 7:19
SPEAKER_00: Even the sexologist Alicia, that was the very first time that we met.
• 7:23
SPEAKER_00: But just her confidence and her ambition to see other women better their sex lives, tick.
• 7:30
SPEAKER_00: Lucy from Broom Pride, big Tik.
• 7:32
  SPEAKER_00: She was incredible.
• 7:33
SPEAKER_00: If you want to go back in the podcast archive, I mean there's probably like 20 something, and obviously they've got a handful of other solo episodes.
• 7:42
SPEAKER_00: That's the point of this podcast is trying to find women out there that are not only they don't have to be successful, but they can be successful like as in their own right.
• 7:51
SPEAKER_00: You don't have to have a business, you don't have to be a millionaire to be considered successful.
• 7:56
SPEAKER_00: For me, being successful is doing the things that give you joy, that you make you want to use ambition, make you want to have a little bit of audacity, also take you out of your comfort zone and realize who you are surrounding yourself with.
• 8:12
  SPEAKER_00: That can be awkward.
• 8:13
SPEAKER_00: That's what I mean by taking yourself out of that comfort zone.
• 8:17
SPEAKER_00: Sometimes we get stuck in these ruts where we have these friendships and these people that we surround ourselves with and we don't want to upset them.
• 8:24
SPEAKER_00: We don't want to say anything negative.
• 8:26
  SPEAKER_00: That's okay.
• 8:27
SPEAKER_00: We need to think of our words because, you know, we're trying to be kind and supportive here.
• 8:31
SPEAKER_00: You do have to come to a point and recognize when you need to kind of sort of surround yourself with those people that are wanting to see you succeed.
• 8:39
SPEAKER_00: It does make life hard to be ambitious, continue to be authentic, and to also show audacity if you surround yourself with toxic people.
• 8:47
  SPEAKER_00: Moving on.
• 8:49
SPEAKER_00: I had the opportunity to interview one of my friends in the past couple of days, Kendra.
• 8:55
SPEAKER_00: I'm not going to do any spoiler alerts.
• 8:57
SPEAKER_00: Her episode will be coming out in a couple of weeks.
• 8:59
SPEAKER_00: I have known her for 28 years.
• 9:01
SPEAKER_00: I was an exchange student in year 11 to Nebraska.
• 9:04
SPEAKER_00: She was in this town.
• 9:05
SPEAKER_00: We went to the same tiny school and we've kept in contact, and I just think she's the B's knees for the past 28 years, 1998.
• 9:13
  SPEAKER_00: I know, I'm that old.
• 9:15
SPEAKER_00: But she decided to take it upon herself.
• 9:17
SPEAKER_00: She was certainly ambitious and definitely showed a lot of audacity because she has two little kids.
• 9:22
SPEAKER_00: She currently lives in Utah, but Upton got on a plane and come and hung out with me for a day and a half in Brooklyn, and I'm so grateful for that.
• 9:28
SPEAKER_00: The friendship that we have had and that we've maintained over 28 years is no joke.
• 9:34
SPEAKER_00: And so I had to get her on the podcast because she has gone through a lot of stuff and she has achieved a lot of stuff.
• 9:40
SPEAKER_00: And so I thought, you know what, I have to get her on.
• 9:41
SPEAKER_00: Kendra, you tick all my boxes.
• 9:43
SPEAKER_00: So stay tuned for her episode, which will be coming out in a couple of weeks.
• 9:46
SPEAKER_00: On to my last take.
• 9:48
  SPEAKER_00: New York.
• 9:49
  SPEAKER_00: It's a whole other place.
• 9:50
SPEAKER_00: And not only New York, America in general.
• 9:52
SPEAKER_00: I managed to spend time with my American family.
• 9:56
SPEAKER_00: It's just the stars aligned, and I stayed with my American sister Molly.
• 10:00
  SPEAKER_00: I have three.
• 10:01
  SPEAKER_00: Rebecca, Molly, and Abby.
• 10:03
SPEAKER_00: And I stayed with Molly in her house in Culver City.
• 10:05
SPEAKER_00: I just got to be in their presence.
• 10:07
SPEAKER_00: I got to be around them.
• 10:09
SPEAKER_00: I got to be around her family.
• 10:11
SPEAKER_00: But her parents, which were my host parents, happened to be there at the same time.
• 10:16
SPEAKER_00: It just was the best.
• 10:17
SPEAKER_00: It was the absolute best.
• 10:18
SPEAKER_00: And I had so much fun.
• 10:20
SPEAKER_00: And I think it's another one of those occasions where, you know, being true to myself, being authentic, I got to just sit and talk to them.
• 10:27
SPEAKER_00: Kevin and Denise are their names.
• 10:28
SPEAKER_00: And I got to thank them again for, you know, 28 years later, this is the eighth time that I've been back to America.
• 10:35
SPEAKER_00: And as I've gotten older, and as my own kids have gotten older, it's not until you get to that stage in your life where you're like, man, that would have been such a huge thing to take on, taking on an exchange student.
• 10:47
SPEAKER_00: I have said thanks to them before in the past, but on this visit in particular, and because I'm aware that obviously as we get older, they're getting older as well.
• 10:55
SPEAKER_00: I just wanted to sit and have chat and ask how they're going and to thank them for what they did 28 years ago, taking on this crazy Aussie, because it did shape me.
• 11:02
SPEAKER_00: It shaped me as the person that I am today, and it was an incredible year that I will be forever grateful for.
• 11:08
SPEAKER_00: So yes, we got to hang out.
• 11:10
SPEAKER_00: I might do an episode on that just that year alone.
• 11:12
SPEAKER_00: I'm starting to go off on a tangent here.
• 11:14
SPEAKER_00: I'm well aware of that.
• 11:15
SPEAKER_00: Today's episode, authenticity, audacity, and ambition.
• 11:20
SPEAKER_00: Have a think about those three words.
• 11:22
SPEAKER_00: People that I have spoken about today, go and suss them out.
• 11:25
SPEAKER_00: Go and suss out Jess Williamson.
• 11:27
  SPEAKER_00: Her page is great.
• 11:28
SPEAKER_00: She is a business coach in Perth.
• 11:30
SPEAKER_00: And you can look at the event.
• 11:31
SPEAKER_00: You can see what happened, who attended, and maybe it's something that resonates with you.
• 11:36
SPEAKER_00: Second of all, Annalise McCarthy, go and suss her out.
• 11:40
  SPEAKER_00: She is incredible.
• 11:41
  SPEAKER_00: Public speaking coach.
• 11:42
SPEAKER_00: Even if you follow her page to get her whimsical reminder videos, I call them, where she tells you to use your voice.
• 11:49
  SPEAKER_00: It sounds ridiculous.
• 11:50
  SPEAKER_00: Use your voice.
• 11:50
SPEAKER_00: What do you want about?
• 11:51
SPEAKER_00: Trust me, go and suss it out and you'll know exactly what she's talking about.
• 11:54
SPEAKER_00: Thirdly, go and suss out Jen Gottlieb.
• 11:57
SPEAKER_00: You might not care about business.
• 11:58
SPEAKER_00: You might not even have a business.
• 12:00
SPEAKER_00: She has a program that's called Stage Leaders, and she is a keynote speaker herself.
• 12:04
SPEAKER_00: Does talk about positive things, surrounding yourself with positive people in your life, not necessarily only women.
• 12:10
SPEAKER_00: Go and suss her out, Jen Gottlieb.
• 12:12
SPEAKER_00: Next week, I will be in transit coming back from America.
• 12:16
SPEAKER_00: So I have already pre-recorded an episode for next Friday.
• 12:21
SPEAKER_00: I can't wait for you to listen to that one.
• 12:23
SPEAKER_00: It is completely different to this one, to today's one, I should say.
• 12:27
SPEAKER_00: You're gonna be thinking, what is Emma on?
• 12:30
  SPEAKER_00: What is she doing?
• 12:31
SPEAKER_00: Well, next week's episode is about boobs.
• 12:33
SPEAKER_00: I'm giving you a spoiler alert right now, boobs.
• 12:36
SPEAKER_00: Why boobs, you should you say?
• 12:38
SPEAKER_00: It's because of the episode with Amy.
• 12:42
SPEAKER_00: If you haven't listened to the episode with Amy, that's she is the reason behind this entire podcast that's called She Said It Out Loud.
• 12:48
SPEAKER_00: She said it out loud and she certainly meant it.
• 12:50
SPEAKER_00: If you haven't listened to it, go and suss it out.
• 12:52
SPEAKER_00: But in that episode, she talks about having breast cancer, finding a lump, having a second lump, and then obviously going through surgeries.
• 12:59
SPEAKER_00: The amount of messages that I received from that episode has been incredible.
• 13:05
SPEAKER_00: It actually took me a couple of days to go through them because I wasn't expecting that kind of feedback.
• 13:10
SPEAKER_00: As in, people were like, wow, this, you know, just that little section alone of the episode caused a lot of women to go and suss out their boobs, which is a good thing.
• 13:18
SPEAKER_00: So I decided to do an episode on boobs, and I talk about mine, and I talk about the surgeries that I've done, and I talk about all things boobs because I am a boobs woman.
• 13:26
SPEAKER_00: So stay tuned for that.
• 13:27
SPEAKER_00: That's gonna be next Friday.
• 13:28
SPEAKER_00: Let me know what you think about today and whether you're like Emma, stop waffling, or Emma, I resonated with your ambition, authenticity, and audacity episode, and it was fabulous.
• 13:40
SPEAKER_00: I want to hear from you.
• 13:41
SPEAKER_00: On that note, have a fabulous Friday.
• 13:44
SPEAKER_00: I'm about to get on the plane to head back to LA, and I will speak to you all soon.
• 13:48
  SPEAKER_00: Bye for now.
• 13:52
SPEAKER_00: Thanks for listening to She Said It Out Loud.
• 13:55
SPEAKER_00: If you took something away from today's episode, I would love to hear from you.
• 13:59
SPEAKER_00: Come find me on Instagram at officially Emma Young.
