- 0:00What's up? This is Bree.
- 0:02Welcome to the very first episode of my brand new podcast
- 0:07called Adventures in Adversity. Thank you so much for joining.
- 0:11I've been super excited to record this.
- 0:14And if I'm being very honest right now, crazy nervous because
- 0:19you know, this is a new adventure for me, this podcast.
- 0:22But I'm excited. More excited than nervous.
- 0:25So that's what we're going to go with today.
- 0:27So for this first episode, I thought I would just take maybe
- 0:335 minutes to tell you really three things.
- 0:37First, who am I? For those of you who aren't my
- 0:40friends and family, which probably for this first episode,
- 0:43you already know me. But I'm going to say who I am
- 0:45anyway, because we are going to have more listeners one day and
- 0:48they're going to need to know me too.
- 0:50Who am I? Why am I doing this podcast?
- 0:54Like, what's the passion behind it?
- 0:56Why am I starting it? And third, what do I hope that
- 1:01you get from it? That's really what I want the
- 1:04first episode to be about and kind of to just give you a
- 1:08little bit of a preview of what it's going to be like when you
- 1:11log on and scroll through the episodes.
- 1:14So that is what I'm going to tell you today.
- 1:17So let's get started. Who am I?
- 1:20Bree Wilson. Nice to meet you.
- 1:23I am 42 years old. I live in Danville, CA and I
- 1:28have my husband Ryan and let's see, I got two kids.
- 1:33We got Brayden, he is 8 1/2 and we have Reece, my daughter who
- 1:38is 6 1/2. So life is busy but super
- 1:41blessed. Everybody's happy and healthy,
- 1:43which is the most important thing And my job, my day job.
- 1:49I am a senior writer editor for a company called ServiceNow,
- 1:53which is a software company. And at work I actually do the
- 1:57same thing that I'm going to be doing at this podcast, which is
- 2:01what it boils down to, is I'm a storyteller.
- 2:04So I actually, at ServiceNow create presentations and stories
- 2:09for executives about how we use our own technology.
- 2:12And it's funny. Day-to-day, we talk about the
- 2:15power of the story and the emotions that you want to evoke
- 2:18and how you really resonate and connect with people and the
- 2:20power of storytelling. And so it's funny how I'm
- 2:24starting this podcast because this is my passion project on
- 2:27the side. And I think I've learned a lot
- 2:29through service now and like, stories really make the world go
- 2:34round. Whether it's in business or
- 2:36relationships, people just want to connect and hear stories
- 2:39about overcoming a challenge. So that's what this podcast is
- 2:43going to be about. I love my day job.
- 2:46I love what I do and I just want to see if this podcast is
- 2:50something I can do on the side and really just selfishly, you
- 2:55know, get inspired by the guests that I have on.
- 2:59So that brings me to the podcast.
- 3:00Why do I want to do this? Well, I love hearing
- 3:04inspirational stories. I've always loved since I was
- 3:06little like inspirational quotes, motivation.
- 3:10I listened to a ton of podcasts. That's what really got me
- 3:12inspired to do this. There's one with Forrest and
- 3:15Rick Hansen called Being Well amazing podcast The Mel Robbins
- 3:20Podcast, where she basically just, you know, makes you
- 3:23confront all your shit and you get your shit together and you
- 3:25face your fears. There's the Anxiety Tool Kit
- 3:29with Kimberly Quinlan who's amazing.
- 3:32So these podcasts over the last couple years have inspired me to
- 3:37overcome my own challenges at work, at home, mentally, you
- 3:42know, mental health is huge for me and so I just want to be part
- 3:46of that conversation. I'd love to.
- 3:48You know, my big dreams are to have guests like that, like
- 3:50those podcast hosts come on this podcast.
- 3:52But you know, honestly, my podcast is going to start with
- 3:57asking and my friends and family, which I've already done,
- 4:00to come share their stories about how they've overcome
- 4:03adversity in their life, whether that is in any area.
- 4:08I just think that this day and age, having a really open mental
- 4:12health conversation is so important.
- 4:15We're so busy. We're all like going for the
- 4:17gold, you know, whatever our personal and professional goals
- 4:20are. But there's a lot of pressure,
- 4:22there's a lot of stimulation with constant pings and all
- 4:26this. So I hope that this podcast
- 4:28becomes something that you listen to, like when you're
- 4:32cleaning, when you're driving, when you're working out, because
- 4:35that's how I listen to my favorite podcast, just to get
- 4:38that boost of, hey, I can do this because look at this person
- 4:42who's overcoming this adversity and hey, I feel inspired.
- 4:46You know, I can do more than I think I can.
- 4:49So that's what I hope you get out of it.
- 4:52I hope you leave inspired. I hope you leave each episode
- 4:56feeling less alone. We're going to cover a range of
- 4:59topics you know, career, personal relationships, mental
- 5:03health, friendships. You know, just overcoming
- 5:07adversity and really turning adversity into an adventure.
- 5:11That that adventure is actually your life.
- 5:13So I hope that you enjoyed this introduction to who I am, why
- 5:19I'm starting this and what I hope you get from Adventures at
- 5:23Adversity in Adversity, an inspirational podcast hosted by
- 5:29me and I've got a few guests lined up.
- 5:31I'm so excited to bring them on. You're going to hear some
- 5:33amazing stories about you know, people digging deep and really
- 5:37just ultimately being resilient, which I think the world needs to
- 5:41hear those stories right now about overcoming challenges that
- 5:46everybody goes through in their everyday life.
- 5:48So thank you again for listening.
- 5:50I so appreciate it. And with that, we are going to
- 5:55exit out of this podcast. And I I can't thank you enough
- 5:58for for taking the time to listen, to get to know me.
- 6:02And until next time when adversity comes your way, blah.
- 6:08Turn it into an adventure. Oh God.
- 6:11Well that's just funny. That's the first sign off was
- 6:14not the way I wanted it to be. But guess what?
- 6:18That's OK. We'll work on it.
- 6:19We'll get better for the next one.
- 6:21I'm a dork. See you later.
- 6:23Bye. Bye.
