- 0:00Hi dog mums, Welcome back to another episode of the Natural
- 0:03Dog Mum podcast. Today we're having a
- 0:06conversation with Christy. She is an advanced cane on
- 0:10nutritionist and she has all sorts of amazing teas and
- 0:15products. She does nutritional consults
- 0:18through her brand Raw Spirit Cane on Nutrition.
- 0:22And we're going to be talking all things gut health and
- 0:25healthy goodness for your dogs. Welcome and thanks for coming.
- 0:30Thank you. Thank you.
- 0:31Thank you. Lovely.
- 0:32Now I would love to hear a little bit about how you got
- 0:36started in the space and what made you wanna get into canine
- 0:41nutrition. Yeah.
- 0:42So it's really evolved over many years.
- 0:44I'm a Labrador breeder and have been for about 25 years now and
- 0:48just feeding the normal things that we had to feed our puppies
- 0:51as, as breeders, different health issues came up and I
- 0:54just, I just didn't feel like we were nourishing our dogs
- 0:57properly. And it ended up being one of my
- 1:00chocolate Labradors. Tarly, who ended up with cancer
- 1:03at the age of 9 after the vaccine, completely normal,
- 1:06before that, completely healthy. And it came out of nowhere and
- 1:10no one could help me. I went to so many vets and it
- 1:13was right through her and we just couldn't do anything about
- 1:16it. So I actually went to Kim Lim to
- 1:19do some alternative medicine. I had cancer when I was 17 as
- 1:23well, so I kind of always been looking alternatively at other
- 1:27things because I had chemotherapy.
- 1:29And that leaves you with deficits, I guess you could say.
- 1:35So, yeah, I went to Kim Lin. She was incredible.
- 1:38She did acupuncture, she did Chinese medicine.
- 1:42And we spoke about diet. And I, I changed highly to raw
- 1:46diet. And although we knew we weren't
- 1:48going to have her forever, we did have this time where she
- 1:52actually became a lot better and she really enjoyed her life.
- 1:55And we had this amazing opportunity to say goodbye in a
- 1:57really nice way. And that kind of was the turning
- 2:00point for me. And I transitioned all my dogs
- 2:03onto raw. So the whole breeding kennel.
- 2:05And we just noticed the most incredible changes almost
- 2:09immediately as well. We didn't have any ear
- 2:11infections. Labradors are prone to ear, ear
- 2:14stuff. Yes.
- 2:15We didn't have any skin issues anymore.
- 2:17Yeah, we didn't have any skin issues.
- 2:20And our fertility just skyrocketed.
- 2:24Interesting. Leaders of 13, you know, it was.
- 2:26Yeah, it was crazy. So, yeah, we just seen the
- 2:29benefits of feeding them all raw.
- 2:31And that just kind of continued until I thought I need to be
- 2:34qualified at what I'm doing. So I went and studied a couple
- 2:37of different courses and plant medicine.
- 2:39And yeah, that's how it all kind of just evolved over time.
- 2:44And then I started collaborating with the pet food shops, which
- 2:48kind of gave me the opportunity to get my products into shops
- 2:52and also start consults. So yeah, it's it's been a
- 2:55journey, but that's how I got here.
- 2:57Lovely. So what sort of products are you
- 3:01selling at the stores at the moment?
- 3:03I know that you've got a balanced raw mix and you've got
- 3:07some other herbal products as well.
- 3:09Yeah, so we, we make raw dog food for adults and puppies,
- 3:14completely balanced and exceeding AFCO standards.
- 3:17It has all the supplements kind of needed.
- 3:19There's Kiefer, there's veggies, there's fruits, there's hemp
- 3:23seeds, tea seeds, cruella, spirulina.
- 3:25Like there's a lot of different, different supplements in there.
- 3:28So it's complete. And I also make supplements on
- 3:30the side as well. So I have a overall health for
- 3:33all ages, a puppy puppy one and also the seniors where there's a
- 3:38bit of natural pain relief, but a lot of support for the joints,
- 3:41brain and skin and, and coat as well.
- 3:44And then I make teas as well. So there's teas for calming,
- 3:47there's teas for digestion detox, probably detox is
- 3:51probably the biggest thing that we need to do at the moment.
- 3:54And then I do a gut reset, which kind of really heals the gut and
- 3:58gets the, the microbiome firing on all cylinders again.
- 4:04And yeah, that's kind of it. Hopefully so you're talking to
- 4:08customers in the stores, they've got multiple locations, so
- 4:12you've got your ear to the ground, so to speak, in terms of
- 4:16issues that are coming up for pet parents.
- 4:18Are there some common themes that you're noticing at the
- 4:21moment, some common problems that that people are struggling
- 4:25with? Yeah, so yeast is the biggest
- 4:29thing. Seeing their dogs come in with
- 4:32skin problems is the biggest. Itchy dogs ears, paws, eyes,
- 4:36everything that's related to yeast, which is the gut.
- 4:39So that's the thing that we have to work on the most.
- 4:42And I think that's the thing that I'm trying to educate the
- 4:44most, is that we need to have a healthy microbiome, healthy gut
- 4:49so that we can support the whole body.
- 4:50Because when that's not functioning, the symptoms that
- 4:53we see are actually the gut telling us that there are issues
- 4:56and that we need to heal that. Absolutely.
- 4:58And the other thing, I think a lot of people don't realise the
- 5:03link obviously, as you've said, between itchy skin and gut
- 5:07health. But like humans, 70% of their
- 5:10immune system lives inside the gut.
- 5:13So it's not just the ear infections and the itchy skin
- 5:17and those sorts of symptoms that you're seeing.
- 5:19If it's left untreated, it can lead to all sorts of disease and
- 5:24and further problems. Absolutely.
- 5:26Chronic inflammation is the biggest thing and that, you
- 5:29know, that comes from the gut. So people, yeah, we need to
- 5:33educate people that, you know, if the gut has not been I looked
- 5:36after or you've got leaky gut happening for a long period of
- 5:38time, you're looking at arthritis, you're looking at
- 5:41other inflammatory, even hormonal issues.
- 5:44Some like Cushing's, all that kind of stuff comes from an
- 5:46unhealthy gut. So in terms of leaky gut, for
- 5:50the uninitiated, what what are some of the most common causes?
- 5:54I I know that a highly processed diet is a big contributor there.
- 5:59Yeah. So definitely they're highly
- 6:01processed foods are the major contributors, but also over
- 6:05vaccinating is having an issue. Anything where we're
- 6:08compromising the immune system. So it's also pesticides, depends
- 6:12on where you're walking your dogs, whether that's sprayed.
- 6:15There's a lot of environmental stuff as well.
- 6:17Dogs, they're walking that on their paws and then they're
- 6:19licking their paws. So there's a lot of a lot of
- 6:22different kind of elements that are all contributing to this.
- 6:25And it's the same for humans. You know, a lot of humans are
- 6:27going through the exact same thing.
- 6:29So chronic inflammation is a big, a big issue in in all
- 6:32areas. Absolutely.
- 6:34Especially when you look at the ingredients panel of your
- 6:37typical bag of processed food. You know, something like a
- 6:41kibble? Sometimes the largest
- 6:43ingredients in the bag are grains and cereals, and they're
- 6:47huge contributors to inflammation in the body, aren't
- 6:51they? Absolutely, carbohydrates are
- 6:53the biggest issue and grains and legumes.
- 6:56People say I've got grain free, but the legumes are full of
- 6:59lectins and they cause a lot of a lot of other issues.
- 7:03They kind of degrade the the gut lining over time as well.
- 7:07So yeah. And it's not what they're meant
- 7:10to eat. We talk about species
- 7:11appropriate. It's not grains, it's not
- 7:14fillers. It's, you know, it's primal food
- 7:16that they would have been eating out in the wild.
- 7:18And that's what we have to think about.
- 7:19And that's how their guts are made to actually digest foods.
- 7:23So they're made to, they have a short digestive system so that
- 7:26they can get this protein and fats in and get them out
- 7:30quickly. And that's something and I think
- 7:31that we've all forgotten. We just think that processed
- 7:34food is the way to go. It's easy.
- 7:36I understand time is a big problem for a lot of people.
- 7:39But when we get back to nature and really teach, teach people
- 7:43or not not teach, but show people that this is what they're
- 7:46supposed to eat, the transformation is really quick
- 7:49and it's amazing. Like people, you will ring me
- 7:53and say, Oh my God, my dog's a different dog.
- 7:55Behaviour has changed, their attitude towards food has
- 7:58changed, their energy levels have changed.
- 8:00They're not itchy anymore. You know, they, they just seem
- 8:03more happy. They're more connected to me.
- 8:05They don't seem to be in as much pain.
- 8:07So they're the benefits are just incredible.
- 8:10Absolutely. So when you have a customer
- 8:13who's presenting with a dog with gut issues or or say leaky gut,
- 8:17obviously their day to day diet is the first thing that you're
- 8:21looking at. Are there other other things
- 8:24that you recommend to help heal the damage that's done and help
- 8:28give them that protection that they need?
- 8:30Yeah, absolutely. So there's a couple of ways we
- 8:33go. The first one is healing the
- 8:35gut. So I make a product called Gut
- 8:37Reset, which relines the gut and repopulates the gut as well.
- 8:41A lot of people will just try and transition from dry to raw
- 8:44thinking that that's OK. But if you've got a leaky gut,
- 8:47the raw food isn't going to be digested and the nutrients
- 8:51aren't going to be absorbed. So you've still got the problem.
- 8:53So going back to fix the gut is the biggest one.
- 8:56Our glutamine is probably the key to to healing a gut.
- 9:01And then once we've done that, we need to look at detoxing as
- 9:04well. So if we're talking about
- 9:05something like yeast, yeast actually gives off toxins when
- 9:08it dies off, which makes symptoms look 10 times worse.
- 9:12So we need to use binders which actually bind together with the
- 9:17the toxins that the yeast are giving off and then remove it.
- 9:20Well, with the detox, that's probably the only, the only way
- 9:22that you're actually going to remove yeast is to kill it off
- 9:25and then get it out with the detox and then we get it to a
- 9:28balanced level. You're never going to kill it
- 9:29off completely. That's kind of impossible.
- 9:32But we need it to be a happy balance where it's all balanced
- 9:34in the gut, the microbiome is functioning really well.
- 9:37And that's how we that's how we heal the yeast, the itches stop
- 9:41everything kind of all the symptoms subside.
- 9:43So. Can you give us some examples of
- 9:45maybe a couple of the ingredients that can help with
- 9:50these issues around the gut? Yes, Al glutamine, as I
- 9:52mentioned, is probably the best thing to be putting into a gut.
- 9:56I've seen that heal gastroenteritis or hemoduric
- 10:00gastroenteritis within a day. Things like marshmallow root, SB
- 10:05putting the pro, the probiotics back in.
- 10:07Slippery Elm is another good one.
- 10:09I also put a little bit of milk Thistle just to kind of detox as
- 10:12well. Just kind of clear out the there
- 10:15are toxins that may be sitting in there as well.
- 10:17Yeah. And then with the the detox, I
- 10:19use Cruella for a binder. There's a lot of different
- 10:23things in there as well. But also I use a couple of
- 10:25different things actually kill yeast.
- 10:27So some antifungals and things like that really work well.
- 10:30Excellent. And the, the other really
- 10:32important part to go with that, that I think a lot of pet
- 10:36ironers would not necessarily know when you've got these
- 10:40toxins entering the dog's system, you know, that are not
- 10:44only upsetting the gut, the other problem is even though
- 10:48they're passing these things through the gut, there are still
- 10:51traces that remain and that tends to compound over time.
- 10:55And if it gets, if it gets to such a point, then you can, you
- 10:59know, you can be looking at issues with the liver and
- 11:01possibly the kidneys because their poor little body is
- 11:05working over time to try and rid itself of all of these toxins,
- 11:11but it can't keep up. Essentially, if you're feeding a
- 11:14high process diet, if you're not supporting the gut, you know,
- 11:18chemicals that you might be using around the home, chemicals
- 11:21or not so friendly ingredients in any topical products that
- 11:24you're using, it's all ending up inside the body.
- 11:27And that's another potential consequence health wise.
- 11:31Yeah, I make a detox which is separate to the yeast detox for
- 11:35exactly that reason, especially for dogs that have been on
- 11:38antibiotics and different kind of it's also good to clear,
- 11:44clear out the liver as well. And they say if you've got a
- 11:47healthy liver, you actually won't have any health issues.
- 11:50So we know that detoxing is so important, especially for these
- 11:54guys, which is so exposed to so many different things all the
- 11:57time. Absolutely.
- 11:59And it's not just things that they're eating.
- 12:01I mean, people don't realise the skin is the body's largest organ
- 12:05for them and for us. So even though it might not
- 12:09instantly be inside the body, something that's even they've
- 12:13come into contact with through their paws or through their
- 12:15skin, it's going to be absorbed inside the body and wind up in
- 12:18the bloodstream, you know, And it's just one of those things
- 12:24that I don't think there's a huge amount of awareness about.
- 12:28So far, no. Yeah, absolutely true.
- 12:32If you can look after the liver and keep the keep the liver
- 12:36really strong and really healthy, well then it's doing
- 12:39its job. It's removing all of the toxins
- 12:42in the body, all of the things that should be there.
- 12:45So you've you've got a healthy dog.
- 12:47Yeah, it's like doing something like that every six months I
- 12:50think is a really good, good idea.
- 12:52Even if you know, your dog hasn't been exposed to anything
- 12:54that you know of the the environmental exposure to things
- 12:58is, is always going to be there for them and us.
- 13:01Yeah. So it's it's a good way just
- 13:02keeping on top of things as well.
- 13:04Absolutely. And especially as you mentioned,
- 13:06for any dog that's been on antibiotics or any, any sort of
- 13:10medication really supporting the liver, just just to help it
- 13:14metabolise things so that you haven't got, you know, remnants
- 13:17of these toxins hanging around in the body.
- 13:20It's just so important. Yeah, absolutely.
- 13:22Like for example, flea treatment was found in the cerebral fluid
- 13:27children because they've padded their dog after the they've had
- 13:31the flea treatment on the back of the necks.
- 13:33If you touch it, it's on your, it's in, it's absorbed into you
- 13:36for 30 days, basically, yeah, whether you wash it off or.
- 13:39Not realise how easy it is. And look, it's weed killer.
- 13:43So like if you go to Bunnings and look at look at weed killer,
- 13:46you're going to see the same ingredients.
- 13:48Yeah, it's highly, highly toxic stuff.
- 13:51And it's the same with, you know, even looking at things
- 13:53like medicated shampoos, you know, Maliceb and those sorts of
- 13:58things. It's a risk to you.
- 14:00It's a risk to the kids if they touch the dog when it's just
- 14:03being treated. And it's an absolute health risk
- 14:06to the poor dog because it's absorbing this chemical cocktail
- 14:10through its skin that winds up in the bloodstream.
- 14:12It's horrible stuff but people just don't realise.
- 14:16No, no they don't. So one of the other things that
- 14:20we were talking about off camera that was really, really
- 14:23interesting was about trying to talk to pet owners more about
- 14:29just being aware of their energy, of their moods, of their
- 14:34headspace when they're dealing with their dog.
- 14:38I mean, they're like toddlers. They're little sponges.
- 14:41They so absorb everything. So whatever it is that you might
- 14:45be feeling at a particular time or if there's a lot of stress in
- 14:48the household, your dog could be taking that on and that could be
- 14:51causing problems. That's something you've seen a
- 14:54little bit in your consults, isn't it?
- 14:56Yeah, absolutely. And if we think of ourselves as
- 14:58energetic beings, we're transmitting and you know where
- 15:02we've got energy, our energy systems are working at all
- 15:04times. So anytime I see an anxious dog,
- 15:08I have to speak to the owner about whether they have anxiety
- 15:10or what's going on with them, what's going on for them in the
- 15:14house, what the dog's exposed to like energetically, because that
- 15:17is a major part of what I see. I see some people will, you
- 15:21know, limp into a consult with a bad knee and they'll come in and
- 15:25say, oh, my dog's done a cruciate ligament.
- 15:27And I'm like, yeah, OK, do you see the, can you see the, the
- 15:30link here? And nine times out of 10, sorry,
- 15:34but when you say it, they're like, Oh my God.
- 15:35And they actually can see that there's definitely a spiritual
- 15:38connection between us and our dogs.
- 15:40They're, they're our earth angels.
- 15:41Like they come to us with purpose.
- 15:43And as I say to everyone, you know, you've got this big world
- 15:46around you, but you are their world.
- 15:48You are their purpose. And so they take what they can
- 15:52from you, whether it's anxiety, whether it's pain, whether it's
- 15:55I, I even believe like cancer. I think energetically they can
- 15:58take things from us. And I think learning that, you
- 16:01know, and they'll do that no matter what.
- 16:03It's not that you're giving them that's their, that's their job
- 16:07as, as what they do for you, but you know, working out things
- 16:10that actually release that for them.
- 16:11So finally, I'll always ask what their, their happy place is like
- 16:14where is it? Where what is it makes them just
- 16:17so happy. And they'll wait.
- 16:18It's the beach or it's the water or, you know, it's running and
- 16:21chasing birds or something like that.
- 16:23And then we have to, I have to incorporate that in saying, oh,
- 16:26that's the stuff we've got to do because that's where they're
- 16:28going to release all this energy and that's what's going to keep
- 16:31them them healthy as well. So yeah, definitely the
- 16:34energetic bond between people owner and and dog is, is quite
- 16:39incredible really. Absolutely take it.
- 16:42Taking on those emotions or absorbing the stress in their
- 16:45home environment can actually manifest itself in in physical
- 16:51illness, for example, there's a lot of stress in the home
- 16:54environment. How that they can they can end
- 16:57up even with gut issues just because of the tension.
- 17:02Yeah. I mean, I mean, I, I know from,
- 17:04I know from myself whenever I would get stressed, even as a
- 17:07little kid, I would end up with a shit tummy.
- 17:12Me too. And I think, I think it, I think
- 17:15at times, I mean especially if you've got a dog that is a
- 17:18little bit more anxious, I think that can be that can be quite
- 17:22unsettling and even contribute to the problem as well.
- 17:25Absolutely. Yeah, Yeah.
- 17:26Gut issues are definitely caused by stress, whether it be like
- 17:30from their owners or just the environment that they're in.
- 17:33Or at least a contributor. I mean, there might be something
- 17:36physical going on as well, but if there's stress in the
- 17:39environment as well, it's absolutely going to going to
- 17:43exacerbate the situation. Yeah, yeah.
- 17:46And an anxious dog will always have gut issues when they come
- 17:49in. That's that's it just goes hand
- 17:50in hand. Yeah.
- 17:51And if we think of the the gut as a as the second brain, it
- 17:54makes perfect sense that the two are connected.
- 17:56Yeah, absolutely. I was talking to a a dog trainer
- 18:02recently who really focuses a lot on diet, not a, not a
- 18:09nutritionist or or a naturopathic trainer.
- 18:12And people were always sort of surprised and wondering why he
- 18:17was asking questions about diet just because, I mean, with any
- 18:21dog, whether anxiety is an issue or not, there can there can be
- 18:25such such a close relationship between what you're feeding,
- 18:29what you're putting into them and even their behaviour, their
- 18:33ability to focus, their ability to concentrate and to take
- 18:36commands, their ability to be open to communication.
- 18:40I don't think people quite realise how strong that
- 18:43relationship is. Yeah, absolutely.
- 18:46And if you think about children as well these days, like there's
- 18:49a lot of ADHD out there and a lot of different mental health
- 18:53concerns and you know, what are these kids eating?
- 18:56There's definitely there's definitely a direct link.
- 18:59Yeah, I mean, you, you take a, you know, a young child who's
- 19:03who's just had McDonald's or had red cordial or had lollies, you
- 19:07know, they're, they're on a sugar high and they're climbing
- 19:09the walls. Same with your pets.
- 19:12It's the same with the dog. If you feed them, you know,
- 19:15highly processed foods, you're going to, Yeah, you're going to
- 19:20see a difference in the. That's exactly it.
- 19:23So the Cuba is carbohydrates, which turns into sugars, and
- 19:27they have these highs, they have these big peaks, and then they
- 19:29have these big come downs as well.
- 19:31Yeah. Which can also lead to things
- 19:33like moodiness, the quality, concentrating, all of those
- 19:36sorts of things. My dogs don't have any
- 19:39particular behavioural issues, but I noticed even years ago
- 19:45when I first transitioned them to raw, they were quieter, they
- 19:49were more settled and they listened better.
- 19:51Yeah, just because. Satisfied because.
- 19:54Clean. Yeah, and they're getting the
- 19:55nutrients that their body needs. Yeah, Yeah, absolutely.
- 19:59I mean, they weren't particularly acting out or
- 20:01particularly naughty. They were pretty good.
- 20:03The occasional case of selective hearing, nothing major, but and
- 20:09I wasn't expecting it. That was a, that was a nice side
- 20:11effect of transitioning them to raw that I hadn't even expected.
- 20:16They were. They just seemed calmer and more
- 20:19settled and more like you. Cool, whatever.
- 20:23Yeah, yeah, Their bodies, their bodies are satisfied with the
- 20:26nutrients they're getting. They don't have to kind of act
- 20:28out or reach out to try and get what they they're looking for.
- 20:32Yeah. And it's it's it's the biggest
- 20:36thing a lot of people will comment on is how happy their
- 20:39dogs get at food time. So they've, they've always eaten
- 20:41food and they've given it a kibble, but now, you know,
- 20:44they're jumping on the bench, you know, wanting the food or
- 20:47they're doing the food dance or they're, you know, they just
- 20:49light up at at food time. And like that for me is really
- 20:52exciting. And it's a beautiful thing that
- 20:55they get to be excited about having their bodies.
- 20:58They. Think it's Christmas every day?
- 20:59They. Do yeah.
- 21:01And that and that's the thing. You isn't just about putting
- 21:04food in their mouth. There's so many different
- 21:06aspects to it. You know, we have to nourish
- 21:08their mind, body and spirit. And when we're doing that,
- 21:11that's when we have healthy dogs, and that's that like that.
- 21:13Yeah, absolutely, absolutely. So if you could leave our
- 21:18listeners and our viewers with a piece of advice, what's what's
- 21:23something that you really want more pet parents to know or to
- 21:27think about? Yeah.
- 21:29I think, I think the the takeaway would have to be that
- 21:33there is a spiritual connection between you and your dog.
- 21:36And when you understand that and you are connected to your dog,
- 21:39their communication just becomes available.
- 21:42You actually can understand, you can read your dog and they can
- 21:45do the same as well. And I think when we think about
- 21:47nutrition, thinking about it as a whole, not just, as I said,
- 21:51putting the food in their mouth, but making sure that they are
- 21:55spiritually taken care of, which means, you know, giving them
- 21:58love. All dogs need is food and love
- 22:00and a little bit of exercise. But yeah, making sure that we're
- 22:03taking care and nurturing their mind, body and spirit, and also
- 22:07that we have the opportunity to heal and help them and nourish
- 22:12them in every bowl of food that we give them.
- 22:14So when we think like that and you're trying to create a food
- 22:18bowl and what we're trying to do is basically recreate a body in
- 22:22the bowl. When we think about it that way
- 22:24holistically, we get to really play a major role in the
- 22:29longevity of our dogs. So the control is actually in
- 22:33our hands. I think that's probably the
- 22:35biggest thing And, and that's why I'm here.
- 22:36I'm here to support people and kind of guide them so that they
- 22:40feel they feel like they can do it without worrying.
- 22:42So a lot of people are worried about raw feeding and and not
- 22:46doing it right, but that's what we're here for and the benefits
- 22:50are just, they're quite incredible to be honest.
- 22:52Absolutely. And the right, the range in
- 22:54store makes it so easy if you if you want to do things yourself,
- 22:59you can pick and choose your proteins and your components.
- 23:02If you time for like me, you can buy something that's completely
- 23:06balanced that has the fruit and the veggies and the extras in it
- 23:09with the with the protein that you're after and you literally
- 23:13just pick it, pick it up and take it home.
- 23:15You can serve it raw, you can lock you cook it if that agrees
- 23:19with your dog. More.
- 23:22And seven locations around Victoria makes it to that makes
- 23:26it. That's what's so exciting about
- 23:29the pet food shops is that, and that's why I aligned so well
- 23:32with them is because they're there to help.
- 23:34So you know that everyone in there can help you if you do
- 23:37have questions. But the the variety like you
- 23:40can, you know, the proteins are amazing.
- 23:42There's so many different kinds of proteins, so many different
- 23:45kinds of bones. If your dog can't eat, you know,
- 23:47beef bones, there's kangaroo bones, there's duck bones,
- 23:50there's chicken bones. We've got the softer stuff if
- 23:53you need it. So there's just a massive array
- 23:56to choose from, and that's what's so exciting.
- 23:58Absolutely. I mean, I went past the Ballarat
- 24:01store last week because I was in the area and I picked, I'd like
- 24:05to pick up a few extra goodies while I'm there to pop in the
- 24:08freezer. They had goat mints, they had
- 24:11rabbit. They had a manner of things that
- 24:13you just cannot get anywhere. Where I live, the baby's got
- 24:17duck wings. They've never had a duck wing in
- 24:20their life and nearly went crazy.
- 24:22Even fresh snap frozen sardines. Most dogs never get sardines
- 24:26unless they're in a tin, which is, which is fine if you, you
- 24:30know, if you're avoiding the the oils and you're going for
- 24:33something in spring water, that's fine.
- 24:35But to be able to get them fresh, you can just see while
- 24:39the look on their little faces and the eyeballs popping, you
- 24:43know? Yeah.
- 24:46Such a sensory experience for them.
- 24:48They've never had fresh sardines in their life and they couldn't
- 24:51get them down past enough. Yeah, that's why I love the
- 24:53easy. Future and it's not expensive,
- 24:55you know. Exactly.
- 24:57Yeah. And my blends that I make, I've,
- 24:59I've got the opportunity with these guys to do goat.
- 25:02There's a goat blend, there's a venison blend, there's a Roux
- 25:04blend and a beef blend. So like the variety is there.
- 25:07If you have skin issues, then goat is a great option.
- 25:11We've really tried to tailor it so that we can help absolutely
- 25:13everybody. Yeah.
- 25:14Oh, it's, it's absolutely fantastic having that variety.
- 25:18I mean, not only is it good just to get it in rotation, so
- 25:21they're getting a variety of proteins and all the different
- 25:24nutrients, having that flexibility there.
- 25:27I mean, I feed my guys a base of a base of chicken because my
- 25:31boys got a sensitive tum tum chronic anxiety.
- 25:34But then what I do is every couple of days I will add
- 25:38something else in there. So it might be Roux on this day,
- 25:41it might be a venison bone, it might be a bit of dark.
- 25:44I've, I've worked out now over time how much a variety I can
- 25:48give him without upsetting his tummy.
- 25:50And then we just have a day in between where we just stick to
- 25:53what he knows, chicken, Turkey, fish, you know, to give his
- 25:58tummy a little bit of a break. But they're loving it, yeah.
- 26:01Yeah, yeah. They love the variety and that
- 26:03and that's key to to raw feeding is, you know, you can balance
- 26:06over time unless it's a puppy, but as an adult you can balance
- 26:10over time and give them that variety.
- 26:12So it's, yeah, it's great. Yeah, absolutely.
- 26:15Well, thank you so much for coming on.
- 26:17It's been so lovely chatting with you and we need to get you
- 26:20back because there's so much more we can talk about.
- 26:22There is yes, no. Thank you for having.
- 26:25Me anytime, anytime. Let's see that squishy again.
- 26:29Are they down at your feet? Yes, they are.
- 26:31Let me grab one. Do you have a look to say,
- 26:33darling, look at you? Is that the little boy or the
- 26:37little girl? This is the boy.
- 26:39The face on him. My man, you are the George
- 26:42Clooney of puppies. Yes, you are.
- 26:45I'm going to call you George Clooney.
- 26:48Yes, I am. You is so handsome.
- 26:51Honey, honey, you're not happy. Taste beautiful.
- 26:55No, because. When I'm awake, it's food time.
- 26:58Yeah, of course I'm sleeping, pooping or it's time to eat.
- 27:03Exactly. Thank you for saying hello,
- 27:07Sebastian. It's very nice to meet your
- 27:10body. Oh, you're going to snuggle with
- 27:12grandma now. OK.
- 27:15Don't want my milk. He's my milk.
- 27:17He's still snipping. He's making me puppy sick, he
- 27:20really is.
