Transcript
- Lucas: Hey Luna, ready for another episode of Learn Spanish with Fexingo? Luna: Totally ready. What are we learning today? Lucas: Today, we're going to learn how to ask and tell time in Spanish. It's super useful. Luna: Oh, I've been wanting to know how to say the time! Let's do it. Lucas: Great. So the key question is: '¿Qué hora es?' That means 'What time is it?' Luna: '¿Qué hora es?' Lucas: Perfect. Now, to answer, you say 'Es la una' for one o'clock, because 'una' is feminine. Listen: 'Es la una.' Luna: Es la una. Lucas: Exactly. For all other hours, you use 'Son las' plus the number. For example: 'Son las dos.' Luna: Son las dos. Lucas: Yes! And 'Son las tres.' Luna: Son las tres. Lucas: Now, to be more precise, you can say 'en punto' for 'o'clock'. So 'Son las tres en punto.' Luna: Son las tres en punto. Lucas: And for half past, you say 'y media'. So 'Son las cuatro y media.' Luna: Son las cuatro y media. Lucas: You got it. Let's practice a mini dialogue. I'll ask '¿Qué hora es?' and you answer. Lucas: ¿Qué hora es? Luna: Hmm... Is it one o'clock? Es la una. Lucas: Perfect! Now let's try another. ¿Qué hora es? Luna: Son las dos en punto. Lucas: Nailed it. And one more. ¿Qué hora es? Luna: Son las cuatro y media. Lucas: Yes! You're a natural. Now, imagine you're meeting a friend. You ask '¿Qué hora es?' and they say 'Son las tres y media.' What time is it? Luna: Three thirty. Or... son las tres y media. Lucas: Exactly. And if they say 'Es la una en punto'? Luna: One o'clock sharp! Lucas: See, you're already getting it. Let's do a quick review. Repeat after me: '¿Qué hora es?' Luna: ¿Qué hora es? Lucas: 'Es la una.' Luna: Es la una. Lucas: 'Son las dos.' Luna: Son las dos. Lucas: 'Son las tres en punto.' Luna: Son las tres en punto. Lucas: 'Son las cuatro y media.' Luna: Son las cuatro y media. Lucas: Awesome. Now, remember that 'en punto' is for exact hours, and 'y media' for half past. You can also use 'y cuarto' for quarter past, but we'll save that for another time. Luna: Good. So today I learned '¿Qué hora es?', 'Es la una', 'Son las dos', 'en punto', and 'y media'. Lucas: Exactly. And thanks to Fexingo, you can practice this anytime. Just think of what time it is and say it in Spanish. Luna: I will! This is fun. See you next time, Lucas. Lucas: See you, Luna. Keep practicing, everyone! Hasta luego. Luna: Hasta luego!
