- 2:40Speaker 4: Good moarning. I'm happy to be here all right.

- 2:47Speaker 2: Works in Malden. We'll get more on that coming up
- 2:51Speaker 2: a little bit later on, but I do want to
- 2:53Speaker 2: focus on this week's Adopt Me Please Pet of the
- 2:55Speaker 2: week as always. Picture posted at Dave Island Radio and
- 2:58Speaker 2: the WCCHS network facebook pages and at Dave A seventy
- 3:02Speaker 2: on x tell us the story of a cat. We
- 3:05Speaker 2: have a cat this week by the name of Scar.
- 3:08Speaker 4: So I wanted to give the cat people you know,
- 3:11Speaker 4: what they wanted this week, including myself. So Scar came
- 3:15Speaker 4: to Kha as astray. Originally he had what's what's called
- 3:20Speaker 4: an ear tip. You'll notice there's a small the tip
- 3:22Speaker 4: top of his ears missing. That's usually to indicate that
- 3:26Speaker 4: feral cats or just cats that live outside have been
- 3:29Speaker 4: stayed and neutered already and don't need captured again. But
- 3:33Speaker 4: Scar didn't find that luck with whoever trapped him and
- 3:35Speaker 4: brought him to Kha, we knew what that little ear
- 3:39Speaker 4: tip meant, so we you know, got him revaccinated all
- 3:42Speaker 4: ready for an option. He's the sweetest little cat in
- 3:45Speaker 4: the world. He loves to just like lean into your
- 3:47Speaker 4: hand when you're petting him. And if you're interested in Scar,
- 3:51Speaker 4: he is living at the pet Co Pit Houses in Tay's.
- 3:54Speaker 2: Valley, living his best life, as you like to say,
- 3:56Speaker 2: at the pet Go penhouse there in Tays Valley. He's
- 3:59Speaker 2: a beautiful cat. And again, if you're looking for an
- 4:01Speaker 2: ideal cat, from basically what you told me, he's got
- 4:04Speaker 2: a great personality. He's an older cat, seven, he is neutered,
- 4:08Speaker 2: he's vaccinated, and you said, a very sweet little man
- 4:12Speaker 2: who loves attention.
- 4:14Speaker 4: He absolutely does. Whenever I was putting him into him,
- 4:17Speaker 4: helping him move into his house, if you will, he
- 4:20Speaker 4: literally immediately turned around and was just rubbing all over
- 4:23Speaker 4: my hands and arms. So he definitely if you want
- 4:26Speaker 4: a cat that's gonna be with you and wanting attention
- 4:28Speaker 4: all the time, he's the one for you.
- 4:30Speaker 2: All right. So you cat lovers out there, this is
- 4:32Speaker 2: a the I mean because sometimes cats have a bad rap.
- 4:37Speaker 2: You know that, because cats, basically, as you know, Angie,
- 4:39Speaker 2: I'm a cat person too, they basically make their own rules,
- 4:42Speaker 2: and some of them you never see. They stay under
- 4:46Speaker 2: the I've had I've known people, Angie, that have had
- 4:48Speaker 2: cats twelve thirteen years and the cat comes out and eats,
- 4:51Speaker 2: he uses the little box and goes like right back
- 4:53Speaker 2: on the bed, does not allow the owner to pet
- 4:55Speaker 2: him whatsoever. I can't relate to that because my two
- 4:58Speaker 2: cats are the exact opposite. It sounds like Scar is
- 5:01Speaker 2: also the exact opposite.
- 5:03Speaker 4: Yes, So the people that don't white cats or you know,
- 5:06Speaker 4: don't get the appeal of cats. I always say, you
- 5:09Speaker 4: just haven't met the right cat yet. So make Scar
- 5:12Speaker 4: that cat for you. If you are totally against cats
- 5:15Speaker 4: and don't get the appeal of it.
- 5:16Speaker 2: Well I can tell you this morning. I was questioning
- 5:19Speaker 2: that appeal at four thirty this morning, as my wife
- 5:21Speaker 2: and I are in bed and I have one cat
- 5:23Speaker 2: laying beside me and one at the foot of the
- 5:24Speaker 2: bed and one that we call whaling and making a
- 5:27Speaker 2: whole lot of noise at four thirty am this morning.
- 5:30Speaker 2: So I was questioning the love of cats at that time, Angie.
- 5:33Speaker 4: Just so you know, well, he just wanted to make
- 5:35Speaker 4: sure that you were up and ready for this.
- 5:36Speaker 2: All I mean sleeping in You know, it doesn't happen
- 5:40Speaker 2: because they're at a schedule. They get fed every morning
- 5:42Speaker 2: about four thirty or five. So there you go. All right,
- 5:46Speaker 2: we'll get back to talking about Scar and just a bit.
- 5:48Speaker 2: But Tuxas and Tails is tomorrow night. JQ. Dickinson Saltworks
- 5:52Speaker 2: in Malden. Are you ready, Angie?
- 5:55Speaker 4: I still don't even have anything to wear, so.
- 5:57Speaker 2: I've been Wait a minute, it's not that kind of party, Angie, Okay.
- 6:02Speaker 4: It's not, it's not. But yeah, So we have been
- 6:06Speaker 4: so busy getting things going and making sure it's one
- 6:09Speaker 4: of the best tuxes and tails, yet picking out a
- 6:12Speaker 4: floral outfit for this event has split my mind.
- 6:15Speaker 2: Are there any tickets left?
- 6:18Speaker 4: Very few? I know I say that every time I'm
- 6:21Speaker 4: on here, but they just keep kind of chipping away,
- 6:23Speaker 4: dwindling down, so there are very few left. If you
- 6:27Speaker 4: want to last minute get your tickets, now is the time.
- 6:30Speaker 4: Don't wait until tomorrow.
- 6:31Speaker 2: So what's it going to be like there? What's the theme?
- 6:34Speaker 2: I mean, I know it's tuxes and tails, but what
- 6:35Speaker 2: can people expect if they come out tomorrow night?
- 6:38Speaker 4: Yes, so the theme is called Whiskers and Wildflowers and
- 6:41Speaker 4: essentially just think like floral garden party. It doesn't have
- 6:45Speaker 4: to be anything too fancy and you'll see there. There'll
- 6:49Speaker 4: be an optical puppies, there'll be music, there'll be orders.
- 6:52Speaker 4: So it's gonna be a little socialization for all of
- 6:56Speaker 4: our staff but also all of the people that kind
- 6:58Speaker 4: of make our life saving mission to happen, whether they donate,
- 7:02Speaker 4: whether they adopt. It's just kind of a little a
- 7:05Speaker 4: little gathering of everyone that makes this happen.
- 7:07Speaker 2: And for those that have not seen the JQ Dickets
- 7:09Speaker 2: and Saltworks, it's actually a really really cool place. I've
- 7:11Speaker 2: been out there for events several times. It's a nice place.
- 7:15Speaker 4: This will be my first time and I'm very excited
- 7:17Speaker 4: to see it in person.
- 7:18Speaker 5: I will say that we.
- 7:19Speaker 2: Talk about the relationship that you guys have with Petco.
- 7:21Speaker 2: We told you that this week's Adopt Me Please part
- 7:24Speaker 2: of the week Scar the Cat liveted up right now
- 7:26Speaker 2: at the Petco penthouse there in Tayese Valley. You had
- 7:28Speaker 2: a big event that was sponsored I think by the
- 7:30Speaker 2: Petco Love folks in Saint Albans this week right, uh.
- 7:34Speaker 4: Yes, and also kind of it was sponsored by tek
- 7:38Speaker 4: A Love, but also our community came together and raised
- 7:41Speaker 4: their nations for that as well. But we were able
- 7:43Speaker 4: to go to an unhoused community in Saint Albans and
- 7:46Speaker 4: provide not only vaccines and microchips and preventive care like
- 7:50Speaker 4: we typically do in our care event, but we were
- 7:52Speaker 4: also able to sterilize aka stay and neuter some pets
- 7:57Speaker 4: out there as well. I think it ended up being
- 7:59Speaker 4: close to forty animals that you know are are now
- 8:03Speaker 4: sterilized and vaccinated and microchipped because of those donations.
- 8:07Speaker 2: So that is good stuff. So this you gotta I've
- 8:11Speaker 2: been hearing these ads running on our stations. We have
- 8:13Speaker 2: an online auction going on right now. That's pretty cool, yep.
- 8:17Speaker 4: That is also a benefit for tuxes and tails. There's
- 8:20Speaker 4: some I was actually before I hopped on here, I
- 8:22Speaker 4: was looking at some really cool items that are in
- 8:26Speaker 4: that auction, So definitely check it out. And again, those
- 8:31Speaker 4: funds to go to help shelter pets, likes car and
- 8:34Speaker 4: others that I've talked about on this show.
- 8:36Speaker 2: And there's all kinds of cool stuff on there. I
- 8:37Speaker 2: know there's concert tickets and so on and so forth.
- 8:39Speaker 2: So you can get more information on your Facebook page.
- 8:41Speaker 2: How are the numbers?
- 8:43Speaker 4: Numbers are in a manageable space right now, but we
- 8:47Speaker 4: are at the height of puppy and kitten season, so
- 8:50Speaker 4: any day now we're expecting the numbers to greatly increase
- 8:53Speaker 4: with either kittens or puppies because they always do it,
- 8:57Speaker 4: and it's something that is very predictable.
- 9:00Speaker 2: And what are you in need of right now?
- 9:02Speaker 5: All?
- 9:02Speaker 4: Right now? The biggest need is peurina puppy chow. I
- 9:05Speaker 4: know last week it was dog chow. This week, I'm
- 9:07Speaker 4: looking for puppy fish.
- 9:09Speaker 2: All right, we have a question here for you. We
- 9:11Speaker 2: always have a question. You're very popular. It says, I
- 9:14Speaker 2: have several bags full of large blankets and even some
- 9:17Speaker 2: scarves for blankets in the cat cages. I bought a
- 9:19Speaker 2: few yard sales, but I haven't been able to watch
- 9:22Speaker 2: several of the large comfort Is it okay to bring
- 9:24Speaker 2: those up there? Anyway?
- 9:27Speaker 4: Gently used is perfectly fine. They don't have to be
- 9:30Speaker 4: freshly laundered, laundered or anything. In fact, smells from your
- 9:34Speaker 4: home can actually provide enrichment for the animals that those
- 9:39Speaker 4: can the blankets go into those kennels, that can provide
- 9:42Speaker 4: enrichment like a little sniffy mat for them.
- 9:44Speaker 2: All right, So, so basically what you're saying, they're not
- 9:46Speaker 2: they don't they don't smell I mean, I want to
- 9:50Speaker 2: phrase this right. They don't smell necessarily freshly laundered, but
- 9:53Speaker 2: they smell like a home.
- 9:55Speaker 4: Yeah, they smell like a home. They smell like a
- 9:57Speaker 4: you know people, They smell like a animals if you
- 10:01Speaker 4: have that. So yeah, all those smells good or bad,
- 10:04Speaker 4: can't provide mental stimulation for those animals.
- 10:08Speaker 2: All right, Angie, have a good time tomorrow night. Unfortunately
- 10:11Speaker 2: most of our radio crew won't be able to be there.
- 10:13Speaker 2: We're going to be in Morgantown for the West Virginia
- 10:15Speaker 2: Broadcasters Association Awards, and if we win anything, I am
- 10:17Speaker 2: going to say that it's because of the Friday Adopt
- 10:20Speaker 2: Me Please Pet of the Week segment, so that way
- 10:23Speaker 2: I can give you some credit.
- 10:24Speaker 4: Okay, Well, thank you very much, and I know that
- 10:27Speaker 4: you guys will be with us in Spirits.
- 10:28Speaker 2: All all right, Angie will talk to you next week.
- 10:30Speaker 2: Maybe by that time you will have recovered from tuxes
- 10:32Speaker 2: and tails.
- 10:33Speaker 4: I sure hope.
- 10:34Speaker 2: So all right, good luck with everything tomorrow night.
- 10:36Speaker 1: Kid.
- 10:36Speaker 2: We appreciate you. Thanks a lot, Ange Gillawatercana Charleston, you
- 10:40Speaker 2: main association with Scar. This week's Adopt Me Please Pet
- 10:43Speaker 2: of the Week Scars around a seven year old cat
- 10:45Speaker 2: living it up at the Petco Penhouse in Tayese Valley, Newtered, vaccinated,
- 10:50Speaker 2: very sweet little man who loves attention. So if you're
- 10:53Speaker 2: looking for a cat that is going to be a
- 10:56Speaker 2: lap cat for you, it's going to follow you around.
- 10:58Speaker 2: It's going to be with you. Scar is the pet
- 11:00Speaker 2: for you. He's a little bit older too, and sometimes
- 11:02Speaker 2: people don't like to take chances on older cats and dogs.
- 11:05Speaker 2: But from what Angie was telling me last night, this
- 11:07Speaker 2: cat is perfect. So if you've been in the in
- 11:09Speaker 2: the market for a cat, and of course he's free
- 11:11Speaker 2: because it's sponsored. Scar is his name, seven years old.
- 11:15Speaker 2: He's at the pet Co Penhouse in Tayese Valley, So

- 14:54Speaker 9: Thank you for the introduction. Dave.
- 14:56Speaker 2: All right, we to have you scooted in the microphone

- 15:00Speaker 2: Thank you for the introduction, Dave. All right, so give
- 15:03Speaker 2: us your bio to just tell us about you.
- 15:05Speaker 9: So my name is Chaselinko Looper. I am running for
- 15:09Speaker 9: magistrate judge here in Kanaal County. I spent a decade
- 15:13Speaker 9: in the US Army a tour in Afghanistan. I came
- 15:16Speaker 9: home struggled with undiagnosed trauma and addiction, which eventually led
- 15:22Speaker 9: to homelessness, and I had to claw my way out
- 15:27Speaker 9: of that. I used Section eight and food stamp to
- 15:32Speaker 9: help rebuild my life until I eventually got via disability
- 15:38Speaker 9: and I started giving back to the community. What I
- 15:43Speaker 9: wasn't living on. I put back into mutual aid and
- 15:49Speaker 9: community defense, and it helped build a movement across the nation,
- 15:57Speaker 9: building dual power outside of the system to help the
- 16:02Speaker 9: working class.
- 16:08Speaker 2: I'm done speaking, Okay, that's that's all right, It's all good.
- 16:11Speaker 2: So what about your background? As you said, by the way,
- 16:15Speaker 2: thank you for your service. You talked about that and
- 16:17Speaker 2: and the homelessness and addiction that you were here. What
- 16:19Speaker 2: about those things did you take away from that that
- 16:23Speaker 2: you think would make you an effective magistrate here in
- 16:25Speaker 2: Kanon Coounty.
- 16:27Speaker 9: Well, my struggles taught me what a second chance looks
- 16:33Speaker 9: like and how to help people through my struggles, I
- 16:40Speaker 9: I learned what it you know, what it is like
- 16:43Speaker 9: to actually be the people that go in front of
- 16:48Speaker 9: a magistrate, the primary people that go in front of
- 16:52Speaker 9: them are those who went through similar struggles that I
- 16:57Speaker 9: went through. Most of these magistrates who you know, the
- 17:02Speaker 9: people who become magistrates are ex law enforcement. They have
- 17:09Speaker 9: a complete career in enforcement of the law, that punishment mindset.
- 17:16Speaker 9: They have that mindset of the enforcement arm of the establishment,
- 17:25Speaker 9: and I don't have that. I have the mindset of
- 17:29Speaker 9: wanting to help and rehabilitate our communities rather than just
- 17:34Speaker 9: throw them behind bars and recycle them through the system.
- 17:40Speaker 2: I would think it brings you a unique perspective to
- 17:43Speaker 2: have somebody because, as you said, the majority of men,
- 17:46Speaker 2: I don't know if there's that many people that have
- 17:47Speaker 2: a story like yours. And I would think, and I'm
- 17:50Speaker 2: not taking anything away from those that are in office
- 17:52Speaker 2: now or those that are running, but I would think
- 17:54Speaker 2: that that would make you maybe a little bit more
- 17:57Speaker 2: empathetic toward those people that are in front of you. Because,
- 17:59Speaker 2: as you said, the great number of them are people
- 18:02Speaker 2: that were just like you.
- 18:03Speaker 9: Yeah, I think a lot of people who haven't experienced
- 18:06Speaker 9: something don't understand it from the emotional aspect, so they
- 18:13Speaker 9: either take it from an intellectual aspect where they can't
- 18:18Speaker 9: connect to it, so they they don't they don't judge
- 18:22Speaker 9: it based on a human degree. They base it on
- 18:31Speaker 9: a very logistical side of things, rather than taking the
- 18:39Speaker 9: the very basic human rights into account. This system. Just
- 18:45Speaker 9: because things are laws doesn't make them right. You know,
- 18:48Speaker 9: you have to make sure that when something is written,
- 18:55Speaker 9: you have to interpret it in a way that takes
- 18:58Speaker 9: humanity into a count rather than just taking punitive actions
- 19:04Speaker 9: against people. And yeah, you know, the empathetic portion of
- 19:10Speaker 9: my life, the fact that I have experienced the things
- 19:13Speaker 9: that most of the people who come across the magistrate's
- 19:16Speaker 9: desk have experienced, that gives me a.
- 19:21Speaker 2: Degree of.
- 19:25Speaker 9: Aptitude that none of these other magistrates have.
- 19:29Speaker 2: Again, we're talking with Chase Linkolooper, who's the candidate for
- 19:32Speaker 2: magistrate here in Kanawha County. How much leeway though, does
- 19:37Speaker 2: somebody if you're elected as magistrate judge, how much leeway
- 19:41Speaker 2: do they have? I mean, because the law is the law,
- 19:44Speaker 2: and I don't know. I'm just asking the question, how
- 19:46Speaker 2: much leeway do they have if somebody comes before them
- 19:49Speaker 2: and to I don't want seem drift away from the
- 19:51Speaker 2: law book. I don't mean that, but I mean I
- 19:53Speaker 2: guess how much leeway do they have within the confines
- 19:55Speaker 2: of law?
- 19:56Speaker 9: Well, let me say it this way.
- 19:57Speaker 2: Yep.
- 19:59Speaker 9: This this system, this system has been waging war against
- 20:07Speaker 9: the working class since the birth of this nation. You know,
- 20:13Speaker 9: the police murder over thirteen hundred American citizens every single year.
- 20:20Speaker 9: The US military industrial complex has over eighteen or eight
- 20:26Speaker 9: hundred military bases across the world in over eighty countries,
- 20:32Speaker 9: and not one foreign military base in the US. Our
- 20:38Speaker 9: system is an empire that forces imperialism not just abroad,
- 20:45Speaker 9: but also onto its own people. So when people come
- 20:50Speaker 9: across my desk, I will take into consideration the fact
- 20:54Speaker 9: that our system is abusing our people and abusing the world,
- 21:01Speaker 9: and we need to help each other and fight for
- 21:05Speaker 9: the people. That comes back to the movement that I founded.
- 21:09Speaker 9: We are building dual power outside of the system. We
- 21:12Speaker 9: are building mutual aid infrastructure, community defense infrastructure, clinics and
- 21:19Speaker 9: networks across the nation to build power outside of the system.
- 21:24Speaker 9: As the formal system collapses, we can replace it. That
- 21:29Speaker 9: is dual power. We are abolitionists and I am running
- 21:34Speaker 9: as an abolitionist magistrate. I don't believe in the formal
- 21:38Speaker 9: system as it currently stands, although I will respect its
- 21:42Speaker 9: laws and abide by its laws. But I believe in
- 21:47Speaker 9: the working class. I believe in representing the common man.
- 21:51Speaker 9: I believe in fighting for the people who are under
- 21:54Speaker 9: represented and spat on by the system.
- 22:00Speaker 2: You have quite a following on social media, so I'm
- 22:03Speaker 2: hoping that that. I mean, obviously your message that you
- 22:06Speaker 2: put out there, I mean you've got an incredible amount
- 22:09Speaker 2: of followers on social media because I was doing a
- 22:10Speaker 2: little homework on you, and I'm sure you're hoping that
- 22:14Speaker 2: that translates into votes. But man, you've got you've got
- 22:17Speaker 2: a huge following on social media.
- 22:19Speaker 9: Yeah. I have roughly four hundred and fifty thousand followers
- 22:22Speaker 9: across social media. My handle on most of my platforms
- 22:28Speaker 9: is logic by link, but you can also find the movement.
- 22:33Speaker 9: It's called fights Back, and here in West Virginia we
- 22:37Speaker 9: are called West Virginia fights Back and we do mutual
- 22:42Speaker 9: aid and harm reduction and we have clinics and we
- 22:45Speaker 9: tried to do as much work as we can in
- 22:48Speaker 9: the community and fight back against the system that aims
- 22:53Speaker 9: to oppress us.
- 22:54Speaker 2: Are there other candidates like you around a different different
- 22:57Speaker 2: positions around the state or do you? I mean, it's
- 22:59Speaker 2: just like a an orchestrated movement where you folks are going
- 23:02Speaker 2: out into trying to run for these offices. Are there
- 23:04Speaker 2: others in your organization that are also running for office
- 23:06Speaker 2: or are you the only one that is the goal
- 23:08Speaker 2: to spread out? Okay, okay, fair enough. How's a campaign been?
- 23:11Speaker 2: How's it gone? I noticed on your social media so
- 23:13Speaker 2: you were knocking on some doors and things of that nature.
- 23:16Speaker 2: So how's that gone so far?
- 23:17Speaker 9: It's gone really well. People have been very receptive. It
- 23:22Speaker 9: is much different from organizing. I This campaign seems to
- 23:34Speaker 9: be proving a lot of things to me that I
- 23:39Speaker 9: didn't necessarily realize initially. And I'm being vague, I know,
- 23:49Speaker 9: but I had a position in society that I didn't
- 23:54Speaker 9: realize that I had until after running for this magical
- 23:59Speaker 9: condition and it's becoming more apparent to me.
- 24:03Speaker 2: Okay, you mentioned your social media, will give you a
- 24:05Speaker 2: chance to mention it again. If people want to learn
- 24:08Speaker 2: more about your website, social media, whatever you got mentioned
- 24:11Speaker 2: it again, if you would please so people can followly
- 24:13Speaker 2: they can learn more about you.
- 24:14Speaker 9: So West Virginia fights Back is the name of the
- 24:19Speaker 9: West Virginia chapter of the Fights Back movement, and my
- 24:26Speaker 9: personal social media handle on at every platform is logic
- 24:34Speaker 9: by link Okay. Final thirty is what I do with
- 24:39Speaker 9: every candidate. I don't time it, it's your time.
- 24:41Speaker 2: I just call it that. Why should someone vote for
- 24:43Speaker 2: Chase Linko Looper for Conon County Magistrate?
- 24:48Speaker 9: My name is Chase Linco Looper, and I'm the candidate
- 24:56Speaker 9: that will fight for you and represent you as a
- 24:59Speaker 9: work class candidate. Is a working class candidate and a
- 25:03Speaker 9: citizen who needs that representation. That's all I happened.
- 25:08Speaker 2: That's That's a good, good, great way to sum it up, Chase.
- 25:11Speaker 2: I appreciate you being here. Best of luck in your campaign. Man,

- 28:50Speaker 2: Welcome to the show.
- 28:52Speaker 5: Good morning. Thank you for having me on day always.
- 28:55Speaker 2: So we all know by now, Hollis, about the new
- 28:59Speaker 2: Kroger coming in South Charleston and the closing the one
- 29:01Speaker 2: in Dunbar. You and others you told me are concerned
- 29:05Speaker 2: about the closure of that Dunbar location.
- 29:07Speaker 5: Talk about it, Yeah, before we get in there. I
- 29:10Speaker 5: we'll be remiss if I didn't, you know, send my
- 29:12Speaker 5: deepest condolencence to the families who suffered loss and injury
- 29:16Speaker 5: and that nitro chemical spill. So you just know our
- 29:19Speaker 5: present our thoughts are with you. At this time. We
- 29:23Speaker 5: have like a sort of a bipartisan coalition of state senators, delegates,
- 29:29Speaker 5: and local city officials who are trying to, you know,
- 29:34Speaker 5: do something about what's going on with the Kroger's. Obviously,
- 29:37Speaker 5: you know the marketplace that's going to be erected in
- 29:40Speaker 5: or currently is erected in South Charleston. Will we good
- 29:42Speaker 5: for our era area overall, But what's happening is that
- 29:47Speaker 5: that Kroger's leaving Dunbar is not only going to have
- 29:50Speaker 5: a leave a gap of services as far as groceries
- 29:54Speaker 5: and whatnot as far as you know the community is concerned,
- 29:57Speaker 5: but it's also going to have an effect on on
- 30:00Speaker 5: the city's being O tax at the tune of close
- 30:03Speaker 5: to a million dollars. So it's a it's a big
- 30:06Speaker 5: problem that we're just trying to figure out how we
- 30:08Speaker 5: can get another service or business in that location.
- 30:11Speaker 2: It's going to be hard to get another business in
- 30:13Speaker 2: that location, Delegate, as you all know, it's going to
- 30:16Speaker 2: be able to bring a million dollars in ben O taxes.
- 30:20Speaker 5: Yeah it is, and like I said, even and again
- 30:23Speaker 5: close to a million. But you know, that program actually
- 30:27Speaker 5: services not only like I said, the area that you know,
- 30:30Speaker 5: particularly our elderly community, it's also a driver for other
- 30:34Speaker 5: businesses within that plaza. So it's a big laws. So
- 30:38Speaker 5: we have to figure out, you know, whether that can
- 30:41Speaker 5: be a you know, a dollar general market, whether that
- 30:44Speaker 5: can be you know, a local grocer or whomever. So
- 30:47Speaker 5: that that's kind of what we're doing. In addition to
- 30:50Speaker 5: you know, the politicians involved, we're working diligent lead with
- 30:53Speaker 5: MARA and the Charleston Area Alliance in order to try
- 30:56Speaker 5: to figure out a plan that's one of the best
- 30:58Speaker 5: suit that community.
- 30:59Speaker 2: And we want to make sure people realize how let's
- 31:02Speaker 2: not to put words in your mouth, but you're not
- 31:04Speaker 2: speaking negatively about the new store in South Charleston, because
- 31:07Speaker 2: that's going to benefit as well, But you're more concerned
- 31:09Speaker 2: about the loss of the current store as opposed to
- 31:11Speaker 2: being against the new one.
- 31:12Speaker 5: Right, oh, one hundred percent. You know, I spoke to
- 31:15Speaker 5: Mayor Mullins yesterday and you know, like I said, I
- 31:19Speaker 5: do my grocery shopping at Crows. As far as they have.
- 31:22Speaker 5: I feel like the superior quality of food and the
- 31:25Speaker 5: marketplaces the similar ones is going to be on Ohio.
- 31:28Speaker 5: I think it's due that we have something like that
- 31:30Speaker 5: in West Virginia. And from what I understand, this is
- 31:33Speaker 5: actually going to be like sort of their last marketplace
- 31:35Speaker 5: at least in the interim. So, like I said, I
- 31:39Speaker 5: support that that's in my district as well. But I
- 31:41Speaker 5: am concerned about, you know, primarily what is going on
- 31:44Speaker 5: in Dunbar and how we can you know, not only
- 31:47Speaker 5: service our citizens but also service our larger community.
- 31:52Speaker 2: Talking to the Delegate, Hollis Lewis twenty one minutes away

- 32:08Speaker 2: but just from what walks of life are the other
- 32:10Speaker 2: people coming from that are working with you, delegate on
- 32:13Speaker 2: this particular project.
- 32:15Speaker 5: Oh yeah, like I said, we have you know, delegates obviously,
- 32:19Speaker 5: we have some state senators. We have like I mentioned,
- 32:22Speaker 5: the Charleston Area Alliance, we have some city council folks,
- 32:25Speaker 5: city council staff obviously, the mayor of Dunbar, Mayor Elliott,
- 32:29Speaker 5: and we also have reached out to you know, Senator
- 32:32Speaker 5: Capitol's office to see how we can uh you know,
- 32:35Speaker 5: work in order to try to you know, talk to
- 32:39Speaker 5: the Krogress folks talk to the to the leasehold and
- 32:41Speaker 5: to see what is the best path in order to
- 32:44Speaker 5: get some Particularly, we would love a grocery in that spot.
- 32:47Speaker 5: That's kind of what we need. But if not a grocery,
- 32:49Speaker 5: what other services or business come and fill that gap.
- 32:53Speaker 2: Yeah, there's a lot of people at the next step. Yeah,
- 32:55Speaker 2: there's a lot of people that are also And I
- 32:56Speaker 2: got a text I want to read to you. Hear
- 32:57Speaker 2: from somebody about the Dunbar Bridge, but that that that
- 33:00Speaker 2: situation is also causing a little headache over there in
- 33:03Speaker 2: Dunbar with a lot of people that you mentioned, Mary
- 33:06Speaker 2: Elliott and others have said, Look, we have a lot
- 33:08Speaker 2: of people that don't drive and that they walk to
- 33:11Speaker 2: these locations and the loss of the Dunbar Bridge is
- 33:15Speaker 2: problematic as well. Matter of fact, I'll go ahead and
- 33:16Speaker 2: read you the text. It says, what are the plans
- 33:18Speaker 2: for the new Dunbar bridge? Are there plans to build
- 33:21Speaker 2: a new one toward Charleston which would put it on
- 33:24Speaker 2: the soon to be closed Kroger, and the Texas says
- 33:27Speaker 2: I think whatever happens with the bridge will play a
- 33:29Speaker 2: large part on what happens to the Kroger. Any news
- 33:31Speaker 2: on the bridge over there.
- 33:33Speaker 5: I don't have any news specifically, although from line is standing,
- 33:37Speaker 5: there is going to be a new bridge erect that
- 33:39Speaker 5: they're going to turn down that one. And again is
- 33:42Speaker 5: that going to be in the same spot. I am
- 33:44Speaker 5: not sure, So I don't want to speak out of
- 33:46Speaker 5: turn on that. But just to go back to as
- 33:49Speaker 5: far as the Krogres's situation, again, we have an elderly
- 33:53Speaker 5: community right across the street. So if you're ever in Dumbar,
- 33:57Speaker 5: you spend any time in Dumbar, you'll see a lot
- 33:59Speaker 5: of individuals walking back and forth from that Kroger's crossing
- 34:02Speaker 5: a crossing that street in which the bridge is on. So,
- 34:05Speaker 5: like I said, it is a situation. And again we
- 34:08Speaker 5: have all these there. We have a Dollar General, we
- 34:11Speaker 5: have the Walgreens there. However, they just don't provide the
- 34:15Speaker 5: totality and holistic services that are Krogers will provide as
- 34:18Speaker 5: far as because you know when we talk about Kroger's
- 34:20Speaker 5: cleaning products, groceries, but you can also do bill play,
- 34:24Speaker 5: lottery and different things of that nature.
- 34:26Speaker 2: Indeed, Uh, if people are interested in getting involved, you know,
- 34:30Speaker 2: you said that you're working with some political folks. Charles,
- 34:32Speaker 2: your alliance, the different city councils, whatever. If people are
- 34:35Speaker 2: interested or to learn more information, what do they need
- 34:37Speaker 2: to do. We got residents to listen to his Hollis
- 34:39Speaker 2: and say, look, I want to get I want to
- 34:41Speaker 2: get in on this, I want to get behind this howl.
- 34:43Speaker 2: Did they reach out to you? I mean, what's the
- 34:45Speaker 2: best thing to do?
- 34:47Speaker 5: You can always reach out to me individually. You can
- 34:49Speaker 5: go to my whether social media, or you can go
- 34:51Speaker 5: to get email me at info at Hollis Lewis the
- 34:56Speaker 5: numeral for WV dot com. That's Hollis. Excuse me, that's
- 35:00Speaker 5: info at Hollis Lewis for WV dot com. And I
- 35:03Speaker 5: would also encourage individuals to go to the city council
- 35:06Speaker 5: meetings to figure out how they can you know, partner
- 35:09Speaker 5: with their specific councilpersons in their award, whether that's you know,

- 36:23Speaker 2: This is this is part of the problem that we

- 42:49Speaker 2: crazy as you can imagine it would be when you
- 42:52Speaker 2: put three hundred thousand people in that area as they did. Now,
- 42:57Speaker 2: the draft will continue today and tomorrow in at Pittsburgh.
- 43:00Speaker 2: My Dallas Cowboys. I will say this not to talk
- 43:02Speaker 2: sports from my Dallas Cowboys. So far, two solid picks.
- 43:05Speaker 2: Our defense was horrible last year, and wouldn't we had
- 43:08Speaker 2: two first round picks and we took two defensive players.
- 43:11Speaker 2: Would not surprise me if the whole dang draft is
- 43:14Speaker 2: defensive players, because that's pretty much what we need. So anyway,
- 43:17Speaker 2: we'll continue talking about that. We're actually going to We're

- 45:45Speaker 2: so I want to be on the day before election date. Well,
- 45:48Speaker 2: I can't have everybody on on the same day because
- 45:51Speaker 2: if I did that, then I would have fourteen candidates

- 46:08Speaker 2: for sitting in for me yesterday on the local show
- 46:11Speaker 2: while I was undergoing cancer treatments yesterday. I'll also be
- 46:14Speaker 2: away from five eighty Live next Tuesday and Thursday for
- 46:18Speaker 2: the same reason. I gotta say. I've had people that
- 46:21Speaker 2: have asked me about the treatments and they've come up
- 46:23Speaker 2: and they said, you know, how do you feel or whatever,
- 46:25Speaker 2: And of course I'm playing it to the hilt, going, eh,
- 46:28Speaker 2: I'm pretty rough.
- 46:29Speaker 9: Ryan.
- 46:29Speaker 2: If you could just give me that bag of potato chips,
- 46:31Speaker 2: I'd probably feel better. But I feel fine. I mean,
- 46:37Speaker 2: I really really do. The treatments don't make me feel
- 46:40Speaker 2: bad at all. I go big shout out to folks
- 46:42Speaker 2: at the c AMC Cancer Center. I literally go across
- 46:45Speaker 2: the bridge to Kanas City Tuesdays and Thursdays, lay on
- 46:49Speaker 2: a table and they do zap me with something or whatever.
- 46:56Speaker 2: And the fifteen twenty minutes later, I am up and
- 46:59Speaker 2: I'm headed back to eleven eleven Virginia Street. The only
- 47:02Speaker 2: the only ill effect that I've had from any of
- 47:04Speaker 2: this is and this just happened a couple of nights ago,
- 47:08Speaker 2: and I'm talked about this on the Midday show. My
- 47:11Speaker 2: legs aren't working very well. And I had every intention,
- 47:14Speaker 2: as I said yesterday, I had every intention of starting
- 47:17Speaker 2: to run marathons. But now that's out the window. I
- 47:21Speaker 2: can't do that apparently. Now it's just not hurting, just
- 47:23Speaker 2: a little bit weak, for lack of a better term.
- 47:27Speaker 2: So anyway, that's all, and that's all I got. Because
- 47:30Speaker 2: people tell me, oh, you're gonna have hot flashes and
- 47:32Speaker 2: you're gonna, you know, have things going on that you
- 47:36Speaker 2: can't talk about on the radio. None of that has happened.
- 47:38Speaker 2: Absolutely none of it so far, so far, but I
- 47:40Speaker 2: got some more treatments to go. But again, thank you
- 47:42Speaker 2: for Deal Cooper and everybody for stepping up to the
- 47:44Speaker 2: plate for me. I will not be on the local
- 47:47Speaker 2: show Tuesday or Thursday next week, but I will be
- 47:50Speaker 2: on Midday and hopefully get this thing wrapped up. Yeah,
- 48:00Speaker 2: I mean the candidate that I had on earlier did
- 48:04Speaker 2: evoke some emotions from some people, and I don't.
- 48:11Speaker 5: I don't.
- 48:11Speaker 2: I don't know that we need to spend any more
- 48:13Speaker 2: time with that. I'll be honest with you. I mean, yeah,
- 48:16Speaker 2: a good interview. He said what he stands for, and
- 48:20Speaker 2: that's what that's what the whole concept to meet the
- 48:22Speaker 2: candidate's thing is all about. So so on, Just so
- 48:26Speaker 2: you'll be warned on Monday, the lineup for the Charleston
- 48:31Speaker 2: cern Wild Regatta is said to be released Monday morning
- 48:34Speaker 2: at around ten thirty. And I want to go ahead now,
- 48:38Speaker 2: and I am going to say, let's go ahead and
- 48:41Speaker 2: queue up the people online complaining about free entertainment, and
- 48:48Speaker 2: let me go ahead and tell you now, just so
- 48:52Speaker 2: you'll know what your social media feed is going to
- 48:56Speaker 2: look like. Let's say, come ten forty five, I have eleven.
- 49:00Speaker 2: Certainly by noon on Monday, you're gonna read things like
- 49:06Speaker 2: they ain't got nobody good or who's that or never
- 49:11Speaker 2: heard of them? And then conversely trashing the regatta, the mayor,
- 49:17Speaker 2: the City of Charleston, anybody else involved because because they
- 49:22Speaker 2: don't like the choice of free entertainment. And I've never, ever, ever,
- 49:28Speaker 2: and I've talked about it for years, I have never
- 49:30Speaker 2: understood that argument that people don't like the choice of
- 49:36Speaker 2: free entertainment. Did I say the words free entertainment enough? Oh,
- 49:41Speaker 2: by the way, it's free. And while certainly everyone is
- 49:46Speaker 2: entitled to their opinion, I don't know why people feel
- 49:50Speaker 2: the need to waste the time of trashing everybody involved
- 49:54Speaker 2: with the regatta because you don't like the, oh, by
- 49:57Speaker 2: the way, free entertainment. So I have no idea who
- 50:01Speaker 2: they're going to book. I know that the Regatta committee
- 50:05Speaker 2: does a great job. There's a lot. I have booked
- 50:07Speaker 2: concerts in the past myself with my company. I have
- 50:11Speaker 2: never done anything like a regatta. I can tell you
- 50:13Speaker 2: that I have done some smaller festivals where my company
- 50:16Speaker 2: was hired to get the entertainment. It is not easy.
- 50:20Speaker 2: You have to get people on their schedules and whomever.
- 50:24Speaker 2: And I'm so out of it when it comes to
- 50:25Speaker 2: modern music right now. I can't even sound intelligent enough
- 50:28Speaker 2: if I drop a name right now to say, you know,
- 50:32Speaker 2: I mean, I know in the country charts, I know,
- 50:34Speaker 2: you know, people love Morgan Walla and people have. That's
- 50:37Speaker 2: not happening at a free concert in Charleston, West Virginia.
- 50:41Speaker 2: It's simply not gonna happen. So what the Regatta Committee
- 50:44Speaker 2: does is they try to get something for different tastes.
- 50:47Speaker 2: You know, they'll be something with a country vibe, something
- 50:51Speaker 2: with a rock vibe, something with a pop vibe, something
- 50:54Speaker 2: with maybe a little R and B or hip hop
- 50:55Speaker 2: or something like that. Because newsflash, you ain't the only
- 50:58Speaker 2: one here. So just saying, just saying, that's what your
- 51:04Speaker 2: timeline is going to look like. People on Monday come
- 51:06Speaker 2: ten forty five, eleven eleven thirty complaining about free entertainment, Uh, Texas,
- 51:14Speaker 2: I don't even know the god to line up and
- 51:16Speaker 2: it already sucks. My opinion is valid despite it being
- 51:19Speaker 2: based on nothing. I pay good money for free entertainment.
- 51:23Speaker 2: Text of the day right there, meadows Text to the
- 51:25Speaker 2: day right there.
- 51:26Speaker 15: You know, if you don't like something, become part of
- 51:29Speaker 15: the effort to fix it. And it's my experience with
- 51:31Speaker 15: these kinds of things. People complain, but they don't want
- 51:34Speaker 15: to do anything. They don't want to put their time
- 51:36Speaker 15: to make it better. They certainly don't want to put
- 51:38Speaker 15: their treasure into it to be able to afford a
- 51:41Speaker 15: better act. Because I have to tell you I've been
- 51:43Speaker 15: in that business a little bit too. You want somebody
- 51:45Speaker 15: that's on the current charts today, you're gonna play what
- 51:49Speaker 15: millions of dollars? Well your costs to get them there?
- 51:51Speaker 2: You are, at least on the entertainment alone, just on
- 51:55Speaker 2: I mean you're talking too, fifty three hundred thousand dollars easy,
- 51:59Speaker 2: just on the it's not counting in the state and
- 52:02Speaker 2: everything else you're into.
- 52:03Speaker 15: Yeah, so you know know what you're talking about before
- 52:05Speaker 15: you talk about.
