- 0:56Speaker 3: I'm good man. We're still rocking out the Into the
- 1:00Speaker 3: Deep tour. Yeah, I was just telling you a little
- 1:03Speaker 3: bit about it. But we were in Lexington last night.
- 1:06Speaker 3: It was so much fun. I hadn't been in Lexington
- 1:08Speaker 3: in a long time. Such a cool little city.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Yeah, I really want to hang out there someday. I've
- 1:13Speaker 2: been through, but never like really chilled for a minute,
- 1:16Speaker 2: you know.
- 1:16Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a cool vibe for sure. And you know
- 1:19Speaker 3: they went and picked up Bourbon for the for the Englishman.
- 1:23Speaker 2: Of course, of course, yes, but yeah.
- 1:25Speaker 3: We've just been having so much fun. Last night it
- 1:28Speaker 3: felt like a big slumber party. We all we all
- 1:31Speaker 3: got on the bus right now, it's it's home free
- 1:34Speaker 3: and the longest John's are like the musicians are on
- 1:38Speaker 3: one bus and the crew front.
- 1:40Speaker 2: That's cute.
- 1:42Speaker 3: And so last night we Chance had bought Naked Gun,
- 1:46Speaker 3: and so we all watched Naked Gun.
- 1:48Speaker 2: The perfect like, yeah movie to watch, setting right.
- 1:53Speaker 3: Just laughing, so much laughing.
- 1:56Speaker 2: Oh that's great.
- 1:58Speaker 3: So but yeah, right now we're in Biloxi and the
- 2:03Speaker 3: other boys are doing kind of an excursion fun and
- 2:07Speaker 3: it worked out that we had planned this because it
- 2:09Speaker 3: would have cost a lot more for me and to
- 2:13Speaker 3: go just to like get another vehicle. Sure, but they're
- 2:17Speaker 3: going to show U the longest Jones around, like Chances
- 2:22Speaker 3: neighborhood he grew up, and they're going to try and
- 2:25Speaker 3: find him a gator to look at.
- 2:27Speaker 2: And it should be fun. That's great. They're going to
- 2:30Speaker 2: have a great time doing that. Yeah, yeah, sorry you
- 2:33Speaker 2: couldn't be there with them, but so happy you're here
- 2:34Speaker 2: with us.
- 2:36Speaker 3: Me too, I'm happy. I'm happy to talk about this movie.
- 2:38Speaker 3: I'm excited.
- 2:39Speaker 2: Hell yeah.
- 2:40Speaker 3: But before we do that, I was wondering, what was
- 2:42Speaker 3: the last movie you watched?
- 2:43Speaker 2: What a lovely question for you to ask. I went
- 2:45Speaker 2: to the theater and I saw The Long Walk. I
- 2:50Speaker 2: don't know if I told you I was doing that.
- 2:52Speaker 2: I can't remember.
- 2:53Speaker 3: You didn't tell me that about it. I've seen one
- 2:55Speaker 3: ad for it, and that's it.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Yeah. This is a it's from a Stephen King book,
- 3:01Speaker 2: I believe, and it just came out pretty recently, and
- 3:06Speaker 2: it's all about it's sort of like not post apocalyptic,
- 3:11Speaker 2: but close. Like you can obviously tell it's during you know,
- 3:16Speaker 2: the United States, like our history and the near future.
- 3:20Speaker 2: But there's this weird thing that's happening, a televised basically
- 3:25Speaker 2: similar ish situation to the Hunger Games in that they
- 3:31Speaker 2: have this long walk. It takes two people, one person,
- 3:36Speaker 2: two people, doesn't matter. They take a number of people
- 3:39Speaker 2: from every state and then do this long walk and
- 3:42Speaker 2: basically they walk until there's only one of them left,
- 3:46Speaker 2: and if you stop walking, you are like shop.
- 3:49Speaker 3: This kind of sounds like Squid Games, but it's more intense.
- 3:52Speaker 2: It's similar. It's like Hunger Games slash Squid Game. Slash,
- 3:57Speaker 2: you know, a speed walking competition. But it was way
- 4:02Speaker 2: more compelling than it had any right to be as
- 4:04Speaker 2: far as I'm concerned, because it's mostly just these and
- 4:08Speaker 2: they're all young men and they're all walking, like and
- 4:11Speaker 2: then that's the entirety of the movie. And of course,
- 4:13Speaker 2: like social dynamics come and like they're talking about stuff
- 4:17Speaker 2: and whatnot. But literally it's just them walking for the
- 4:19Speaker 2: whole thing. It's super intriguing. I really liked it a lot,
- 4:25Speaker 2: and I recommend people see it. It's nice. It does
- 4:28Speaker 2: get like gory and stuff, so if that's not your
- 4:30Speaker 2: vibe then, you know, and violent, so if that's not
- 4:33Speaker 2: your thing, don't check it out. But otherwise, if you're
- 4:36Speaker 2: okay with some of that, it's a super interesting movie that,
- 4:40Speaker 2: like I said, just is better than it should be.
- 4:43Speaker 2: Like the what is it? The sum is more than
- 4:45Speaker 2: the parts, you know, added together or whatever. But yeah,
- 4:50Speaker 2: I really liked it. I thought it was really cool.
- 4:52Speaker 2: There's one dude in it, David Johnson. I don't know
- 4:57Speaker 2: if it's Johnson or Johnson, but it's not like Johnson.
- 5:00Speaker 3: Okay, I spelt that way doing his soft Jay Just
- 5:05Speaker 3: love it.
- 5:06Speaker 2: Uh also a very young Cooper Hoffman is in this
- 5:10Speaker 2: and he's great.
- 5:12Speaker 3: Did you know the trivia about him? I just learned
- 5:14Speaker 3: this about his Tell me that is Philip Seymour Hoffman's kid.
- 5:19Speaker 2: Oh, yes, I did know that. Then, Yes, I did
- 5:22Speaker 2: not know that.
- 5:23Speaker 3: Yeah, I learned about it while he was doing press
- 5:25Speaker 3: for that movie. And there he was on the Today Show.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Was he the Licorice Pizza Kid?
- 5:31Speaker 3: He was Licorice Pizza Saturday Night movie?
- 5:35Speaker 2: No, I didn't know that. Okay, Ah, he's great, he
- 5:39Speaker 2: really really is great. And the other co lead is
- 5:42Speaker 2: this David Johnson who I previously mentioned. Uh, he was
- 5:46Speaker 2: in oh what was it the Alien movie? I think
- 5:52Speaker 2: it doesn't matter. Oh yeah, he was in that and
- 5:57Speaker 2: he was really good in that. But he was really
- 5:59Speaker 2: good in this and just a bunch of This is
- 6:02Speaker 2: gonna be one of those movies because it's so many
- 6:06Speaker 2: like actors of like a certain age. You know that
- 6:10Speaker 2: we're gonna watch it later like, oh my god, that
- 6:12Speaker 2: guy was you know. I think it seems like ripe
- 6:15Speaker 2: for that sort of thing. But I really liked this
- 6:18Speaker 2: movie a ton and I recommend it. So check out
- 6:20Speaker 2: The Long Walk.
- 6:21Speaker 3: The Long Walk Cool.
- 6:23Speaker 2: I liked it how about you? What have you seen recently?
- 6:26Speaker 3: Before I left the famine? I watched the new Bad
- 6:30Speaker 3: Guys movie called Bad Guys Too.
- 6:34Speaker 2: And I haven't seen the first one, but they look fun.
- 6:36Speaker 3: Those they are super fun. You would like them both cool.
- 6:40Speaker 3: We all enjoyed it. There's a lot of humor in it,
- 6:42Speaker 3: and they let the adults have fun with it too.
- 6:45Speaker 3: It kind of has that kind of like Shrek vibe
- 6:47Speaker 3: where yeah, of course there's jokes for both of us.
- 6:52Speaker 3: Sam Rockwell is so good as the main guy. He's
- 6:55Speaker 3: the he's the wolf. And then the rest of his
- 6:57Speaker 3: team is a bunch of fun with Mark Marin and
- 6:59Speaker 3: Craig rob and sen An Aquafina and Anthony Ramos.
- 7:03Speaker 2: That's a great crew man awesome, and then all.
- 7:06Speaker 3: The supporting people are big names too that you'd recognize totally.
- 7:10Speaker 3: But yeah, the animation is really fun. I believe this
- 7:14Speaker 3: is a DreamWorks vehicle sure, and the plotline was kind
- 7:20Speaker 3: of similar to the first one but still very very entertaining,
- 7:25Speaker 3: And so yeah, I would I would recommend both of them.
- 7:27Speaker 3: I'd check them both out, give yourself a little double feature.
- 7:30Speaker 2: I definitely like every time I've seen an ad I've
- 7:33Speaker 2: been like, yeah, I'm gonna watch that at some point,
- 7:34Speaker 2: and it's gonna be cute. I'm gonna like it.
- 7:36Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, nice. And apparently it's a whole book series too.
- 7:41Speaker 3: And I don't think my kids were super into the
- 7:42Speaker 3: book series really. They really like the movies so fun.
- 7:46Speaker 2: We'll check that out for sure.
- 7:48Speaker 3: What have you been streaming?
- 7:49Speaker 2: I streamed a comedy special on HBO rob It just
- 7:55Speaker 2: came out. I thought it was one of those you've
- 7:57Speaker 2: talked about this before, but that weird phenomenon where you're like, oh,
- 8:00Speaker 2: I watched this thing, and then I realized it came
- 8:02Speaker 2: out that day, you know, so like I watched it immediately.
- 8:05Speaker 2: Apparently Caleb Herron is the guy's name. It's called Model Comedian.
- 8:12Speaker 2: He's really funny. I don't really know him from anything
- 8:15Speaker 2: other than he's been on a few podcasts I've listened
- 8:17Speaker 2: to in the past just as a guest.
- 8:21Speaker 3: Oh yes, I've seen clips of him on the podcast
- 8:24Speaker 3: for sure.
- 8:25Speaker 2: Yeah, And I don't know what he's a writer or
- 8:27Speaker 2: what else he does, but he's really funny. And I
- 8:31Speaker 2: really enjoyed this stand up special top. I thought it
- 8:34Speaker 2: was really fun. He gets into a lot of just
- 8:36Speaker 2: like him. He's only thirty, which I thought he was
- 8:40Speaker 2: older and that made me mad, and then no, not really,
- 8:44Speaker 2: but he's just great. He's got such a fun vibe
- 8:48Speaker 2: about him. I will say he is a gaman and
- 8:52Speaker 2: does throw out some like gay slurs as part of
- 8:55Speaker 2: his jokes, and they're emphatic. So if that's not your thing,
- 8:59Speaker 2: or maybe don't watch around, you know, or whatever. But
- 9:04Speaker 2: he's really funny. Man. I really like that special lot.
- 9:06Speaker 2: I thought was really good.
- 9:08Speaker 3: That's funn Yeah. I saw one bit about how he
- 9:11Speaker 3: never expected a straight white male before, and this guy
- 9:16Speaker 3: said something, yeah what was he Oh yeah, he said
- 9:22Speaker 3: it's not super appropriate, but he pretty much was like, yeah,
- 9:26Speaker 3: there's no way that a woman would ever be able
- 9:29Speaker 3: to pleasure me orally. They just they just can't happen.
- 9:32Speaker 2: Yeah, and he's like, this guy's a genius. Now everyone
- 9:35Speaker 2: thinks it's a challenge and he goes, yeah, so funny. Yeah,
- 9:39Speaker 2: it's really funny. But yeah, he's got a fun sense
- 9:42Speaker 2: of humor. And I think you would like it rap.
- 9:45Speaker 3: Yeah, I think I would too. He cracks me up
- 9:47Speaker 3: every time I see him.
- 9:48Speaker 2: Yeah, it's really great. So HBO Max And like I said,
- 9:51Speaker 2: I watched it like the day it came out, which
- 9:54Speaker 2: is just silly. I didn't do it on purpose.
- 9:56Speaker 3: But here we are, so big Caleb hearing.
- 9:58Speaker 2: Fan, I guess, except I don't know what he does.
- 10:03Speaker 3: He's a comedian as.
- 10:04Speaker 2: A writer too, because I think he was on that
- 10:07Speaker 2: Ian Carmel podcast, the All Fantasy Everything That Does. He's
- 10:13Speaker 2: has written for a bunch of the late shows and stuff, gotcha,
- 10:16Speaker 2: So I think that would be the connection. But anyway,
- 10:19Speaker 2: he's really funny and the special is really great. So
- 10:22Speaker 2: great act out what have you been?
- 10:24Speaker 3: The story something much darker than that. I just started
- 10:29Speaker 3: the most recent project from Jason Bateman called Black Rabbit
- 10:34Speaker 3: on Netflix.
- 10:35Speaker 2: Yeah, I haven't seen this yet. Tell me everything.
- 10:38Speaker 3: Well, I don't know a lot to tell you because
- 10:41Speaker 3: I only watched the first episode or so far. So
- 10:47Speaker 3: far okay, but I mean it's long. It's like an
- 10:50Speaker 3: hour and ten minutes or something in the first episode,
- 10:53Speaker 3: so and it took me a minute to get locked in,
- 10:56Speaker 3: but by the end of the hour I was into it.
- 11:00Speaker 3: Jason Bateman plays a real douche of a character. He
- 11:04Speaker 3: reminds me a lot of the Ed Norton role in
- 11:07Speaker 3: rounders where he's like big sleeves bag. Yeah that only
- 11:16Speaker 3: cares about himself, always makes the wrong decision, treats the
- 11:20Speaker 3: people around him poorly.
- 11:21Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, Okay, so that's.
- 11:23Speaker 3: Been interesting seeing him in this different kind of role
- 11:26Speaker 3: because I've never really seen him.
- 11:27Speaker 2: Usually he's kind of the charming I mean, he can
- 11:30Speaker 2: be in things, but yeah, but not like this. Yeah.
- 11:34Speaker 2: Usually it's redeemable a bit at least, right.
- 11:37Speaker 3: And even if it's not, he's usually just like super
- 11:40Speaker 3: mean and that's his character. But this is like it's much.
- 11:45Speaker 2: More than that.
- 11:46Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 11:47Speaker 2: Interesting.
- 11:48Speaker 3: Yeah, and Jude Law plays his older brother. He seems
- 11:52Speaker 3: like he's more on the up and up. But I
- 11:54Speaker 3: think we're gonna find like you just kind of feel
- 11:56Speaker 3: like maybe there's something under the surface there.
- 11:59Speaker 2: Sure.
- 12:00Speaker 3: Yeah, so, uh, they leave it open whether he's a
- 12:04Speaker 3: good guy or not, but it's it's gonna be dark
- 12:07Speaker 3: for sure.
- 12:08Speaker 2: Okay.
- 12:09Speaker 3: It didn't hook me as fast as Ozark did, but
- 12:11Speaker 3: I'm definitely gonna keep on watching.
- 12:13Speaker 2: Yeah. Well O's Ark was just like right away and saying, yeah,
- 12:17Speaker 2: that's fun. I know nice, We'll have to check that out.
- 12:20Speaker 2: That's very cool, very cool. Well, what do you think
- 12:22Speaker 2: should we do a few plugs.
- 12:24Speaker 3: Yeah, all right.
- 12:26Speaker 2: Guess convis us. It's always over on Twitter machine where
- 12:28Speaker 2: we're at Avid Indorsman with a Z. You can also

- 12:40Speaker 2: to really go and hang out.
- 12:43Speaker 3: Patreon dot com slash the Avid Indoorsman.
- 12:46Speaker 2: Oh, I like that. That made me feel silly things.
- 12:51Speaker 3: Yeah, I like it. It's a great time on Patreon.

- 13:22Speaker 3: it is chilling. And we're usually going to do a
- 13:25Speaker 3: top five draft that pertains to the movie we're talking about,
- 13:27Speaker 3: and Bugs came up with this one. We're gonna do
- 13:31Speaker 3: our top five favorite, Sir Ridley Scott Films.
- 13:35Speaker 2: Yes, sir, I didn't even know that.
- 13:37Speaker 3: Yes, sense make sense?
- 13:39Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, that'll be a blast. We also did
- 13:45Speaker 2: it because we only have the two of us today,
- 13:48Speaker 2: so that's kind of the only way I could have
- 13:49Speaker 2: done it.
- 13:50Speaker 3: I could have done three, could.
- 13:54Speaker 2: Could do three. Missed some interesting ones that I've missed
- 13:57Speaker 2: some too, don't make a lot of sense. We'll get
- 13:59Speaker 2: to that. All of that. We spaker on dot com
- 14:01Speaker 2: slashly have an endorsement if you want to hang out
- 14:03Speaker 2: and check that out. But we are here today first
- 14:06Speaker 2: to talk about a lovely little film called The Martian
- 14:10Speaker 2: rob The Martian. It came out in twenty fifteen, so
- 14:14Speaker 2: this is ten years old already, which is pretty wild
- 14:17Speaker 2: to think about.
- 14:17Speaker 3: I know we had talked about doing it for its
- 14:19Speaker 3: five but I'm glad we're hitting it on its tent.
- 14:21Speaker 2: Me too. We got there eventually. But yeah, like I said,
- 14:25Speaker 2: it's just you and I, So you want to get
- 14:26Speaker 2: us started with a rough synopsis.
- 14:29Speaker 3: I would love to, Okay, when astronauts blast off from
- 14:33Speaker 3: the planet Mars, they leave behind Mark Wantney, presumed dead
- 14:37Speaker 3: after a fierce storm, with only a meager amount of supplies.
- 14:41Speaker 3: The stranded visitor must utilize his wits and spirit to
- 14:45Speaker 3: find a way to survive on the hostile planet. Meanwhile,
- 14:49Speaker 3: back on Earth, members of NASA and It's NASA. Members
- 14:53Speaker 3: of NASA and a team of international scientists worked tirelessly
- 14:57Speaker 3: to bring him home, while his crewmates hatch their plan
- 15:00Speaker 3: for a daring rescue mission.
- 15:03Speaker 2: Nicely done, nicely done.
- 15:05Speaker 3: It's being silly with my voices.
- 15:07Speaker 2: I mean, breed, not sure I would have even noticed
- 15:10Speaker 2: NASA until you said it. That's how dumb I I.
- 15:12Speaker 3: Was like, Oh, I said that, weird. I like NASA.
- 15:16Speaker 2: That's a real roller coaster ride that read. I loved it.
- 15:18Speaker 2: I love thank you very talented. Wow, let's go to
- 15:23Speaker 2: Rotten to models and hear what they have to say. Uh, critics,
- 15:26Speaker 2: this is a this is kind of rare for us.
- 15:28Speaker 2: Of the critics and the audience score is exactly the same.
- 15:33Speaker 2: They're both at ninety one percent, which is very fresh.
- 15:36Speaker 2: My friends, that is fresh. Yeah. I kind of would
- 15:39Speaker 2: have thought audience members would have had it up a
- 15:41Speaker 2: little bit, but.
- 15:42Speaker 3: I see yeah, I could see that too.
- 15:44Speaker 2: But still, dude, that's really.
- 15:45Speaker 3: Also critically like, really well received. It's pretty fun.
- 15:49Speaker 2: Very well received for sure. Yeah, but what he says,
- 15:52Speaker 2: should we go in and say what we think is
- 15:54Speaker 2: the time for our hot take?
- 15:56Speaker 3: Hot take?
- 15:56Speaker 2: Oh, ash, that's a hot take. Hmm, that's a hot take.
- 16:02Speaker 3: Mars is cold, it's cold.
- 16:06Speaker 2: Yeah, there's a there's a fire. He has an explosion.
- 16:09Speaker 3: He has explosion.
- 16:10Speaker 2: That's a thing.
- 16:11Speaker 3: Ah, I'm making water and I hurt myself.
- 16:14Speaker 2: Yeah, because I'm an idiot or whatever, because I'm stupid. Right, Yeah,
- 16:19Speaker 2: I have it somewhere wonderfully done. I can go first
- 16:23Speaker 2: on this one. I really like this movie a lot,
- 16:26Speaker 2: like more than I probably should even I don't know.
- 16:30Speaker 2: This is one that I rewatch a lot.
- 16:33Speaker 3: It is just a how many times you think you've
- 16:36Speaker 3: seen it?
- 16:36Speaker 2: Now? Man? I bet just Ballpark twenty five? Wow, it's
- 16:43Speaker 2: a lot. I don't know why I like this one
- 16:46Speaker 2: is always an easy one that I know I'll be
- 16:48Speaker 2: super entertained. I've seen it a bunch now, so I
- 16:51Speaker 2: don't have to, like one hundred percent pay attention. But
- 16:54Speaker 2: then you know, we'll you know, set down my whatever
- 16:57Speaker 2: I'm working on, you know, or whatever, and really in
- 17:00Speaker 2: for certain parts of it. I just think it's really
- 17:02Speaker 2: well done. It is a it's fun that we're doing
- 17:06Speaker 2: this right after Apollo thirteen because it is similar in
- 17:09Speaker 2: a lot of ways, right, Like it's a it's a
- 17:11Speaker 2: movie about being marooned. It's a movie about the harshness
- 17:14Speaker 2: of space. You know. In general, it's just really really
- 17:18Speaker 2: fun and overcoming like insurmountable odds. I think we've talked
- 17:23Speaker 2: about before and you'll probably talk about this, but it's
- 17:25Speaker 2: Andy Weir, right is the author's name.
- 17:28Speaker 3: Definitely.
- 17:29Speaker 2: We love his books in general, and this one is
- 17:32Speaker 2: also a great one. So if you're looking for a
- 17:34Speaker 2: great read, check out The Martians Super Did you.
- 17:37Speaker 3: Read it before the before seeing it?
- 17:39Speaker 2: I read it after for sure, and it's fun. It's
- 17:43Speaker 2: it's I think there's trivia about this later, but I
- 17:45Speaker 2: can just throw it in now. It's written as like
- 17:48Speaker 2: his like diary entries that he's doing, you know, that's
- 17:51Speaker 2: how the story gets told. And apparently he did that
- 17:54Speaker 2: as a blog first and then just like made it
- 17:58Speaker 2: into a book and now all this So I think
- 18:00Speaker 2: that's just really cool. What a fun way to do things.
- 18:04Speaker 2: Fun soundtrack in this movie, Uh, well, if you like disco,
- 18:08Speaker 2: it's a very which I do. I really enjoy it.
- 18:11Speaker 2: I like it a lot, and the score is quite beautiful.
- 18:16Speaker 2: I thought, uh, you know, empty in spots, like sort
- 18:19Speaker 2: of that lonely feeling vibes going on, but also just
- 18:23Speaker 2: just really nice, very vibey. I thought, uh, I like
- 18:28Speaker 2: the the like video logs are a great way to
- 18:31Speaker 2: give us like that exposition and you know, move the
- 18:34Speaker 2: story along. I think that's really fun. And the strangely,
- 18:39Speaker 2: the relationships in this movie are part of my favorite parts.
- 18:43Speaker 2: I just think the crew has such a cool relationship,
- 18:46Speaker 2: and then like the people working back on Earth have
- 18:48Speaker 2: fun dynamics and stuff. But I just think it's great.
- 18:51Speaker 2: I really love this movie a ton hot take hot
- 18:57Speaker 2: take really come up with the hot take for this one.
- 19:00Speaker 2: I could live off potatoes all I think I could do.
- 19:04Speaker 2: I think I'd be okay. I wouldn't live long.
- 19:07Speaker 3: But I'd have to be dipping it into viking in too.
- 19:10Speaker 2: Just to run out of ketchup would be hard, for sure.
- 19:15Speaker 2: I love a potato though. I love it.
- 19:18Speaker 3: Yeah, you don't.
- 19:19Speaker 2: Eat many potatoes anymore, do you.
- 19:22Speaker 3: You know? I tried doing the whole low carb thing,
- 19:24Speaker 3: and potatoes aren't good for that.
- 19:27Speaker 2: There's so good.
- 19:29Speaker 3: They are so good and I love them in all
- 19:32Speaker 3: their all of its forms too. But just like straight
- 19:35Speaker 3: up baked potato, that was one thing that I didn't
- 19:38Speaker 3: I didn't miss.
- 19:39Speaker 2: That a lot, get that, you know what I mean.
- 19:42Speaker 3: But like my family and Kelsey's family, they have a
- 19:45Speaker 3: baked potato with every single dinner. It doesn't matter what
- 19:48Speaker 3: the dinner is.
- 19:49Speaker 2: Tonight, we're having Italian and baked potatoes and a baked potato.
- 19:53Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, we did eat a lot of baked potatoes
- 19:56Speaker 2: grown up. Oh yeah, yeah, but yeah, I guess that's
- 20:01Speaker 2: my hottest thing.
- 20:02Speaker 3: That's a fun tick. That's a fun tick. I like it.
- 20:04Speaker 2: That's all I got.
- 20:05Speaker 3: You're good man. I really enjoyed this movie. I remember
- 20:10Speaker 3: devouring the book by Andy Weir and it was fun.
- 20:14Speaker 3: I always remember it because it was while Holme Free
- 20:16Speaker 3: did a little retreat. It's the only time we ever
- 20:18Speaker 3: did this. We got an airbnb out in Utah in
- 20:22Speaker 3: the mountains and learned all the music after our Country
- 20:26Speaker 3: Revolution album we put out, and whenever we weren't rehearsing,
- 20:31Speaker 3: I was just into this book, like, just couldn't put
- 20:36Speaker 3: it down.
- 20:36Speaker 2: So was that before the movie? Did you catch it before?
- 20:39Speaker 3: And then I found out it was going to going
- 20:42Speaker 3: to be a movie. I was so excited. And this
- 20:46Speaker 3: is one of the rare times where I felt like
- 20:48Speaker 3: the movie was as good as the book. I agree completely,
- 20:53Speaker 3: and that does not happen often.
- 20:55Speaker 2: You know.
- 20:56Speaker 3: That's like only a handful of times where I could
- 20:58Speaker 3: ever really say that they got the right tone. Matt
- 21:01Speaker 3: Damon was perfectly cast, and uh yeah, I was just
- 21:05Speaker 3: so happy after I saw it. A lot of a
- 21:09Speaker 3: lot of people felt the way I did. Because this
- 21:11Speaker 3: was nominated for seven Academy Awards.
- 21:14Speaker 2: Yeah that's wild.
- 21:15Speaker 3: It didn't win any okay, good, but the big ones
- 21:21Speaker 3: it was up for was Adapted Screenplay, Best Actor, and
- 21:24Speaker 3: Best Picture. But yeah, that and Brooklyn that year were
- 21:30Speaker 3: the only movies that had been nominated that didn't didn't win.
- 21:35Speaker 3: But yeah, Ridley Scott directed it, did a great job.
- 21:39Speaker 3: Drew Goddard did the screenplay. We really liked Drew Goddard.
- 21:43Speaker 3: He did Cabin in the Woods, Cliverfield. He did a
- 21:46Speaker 3: really fun one that a lot not a lot of
- 21:48Speaker 3: people saw, called Bad Times at the l Royal.
- 21:52Speaker 2: I've been like I wanted to see that for a while. Okay,
- 21:55Speaker 2: that one, if you.
- 21:56Speaker 3: Can find it, somewhere that one was really fund out.
- 22:01Speaker 3: But I also saw that Drew Goddard, he wrote the
- 22:04Speaker 3: screenplay for the upcoming Andy Weir film, How did you
- 22:10Speaker 3: tell you that?
- 22:11Speaker 2: Oh that's good's appealing?
- 22:14Speaker 3: That same kind of vibe I would, I would imagine, I'm.
- 22:17Speaker 2: So excited for that. Please don't watch the Please don't
- 22:20Speaker 2: watch the trailer, guests, don't.
- 22:21Speaker 3: Watch the trailers. I hate that.
- 22:24Speaker 2: And that book is so good, it was so good,
- 22:27Speaker 2: so good.
- 22:28Speaker 3: But this movie, the cast is just incredibly stacked. It's
- 22:33Speaker 3: amazing that all of these people were down to play
- 22:37Speaker 3: all of these pretty small rule.
- 22:38Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:41Speaker 3: I could see how some people might feel like the
- 22:43Speaker 3: run time is a little too long, But since I
- 22:46Speaker 3: loved the source material, I was always very engaged. Yep,
- 22:50Speaker 3: So that didn't bug me. But two hours and twenty minutes,
- 22:52Speaker 3: if you're not absolutely loving it, I could see that
- 22:55Speaker 3: being a little too long.
- 22:56Speaker 2: Yep.
- 22:58Speaker 3: Yeah, I really enjoyed this movie. I have been enjoyed.
- 23:00Speaker 3: I've enjoyed it as much on the following rewatches. It's
- 23:03Speaker 3: just a very rewatchable movie.
- 23:05Speaker 2: How many times have you seen it?
- 23:08Speaker 3: I've probably seen it four times.
- 23:10Speaker 2: That's a lot for you, though, because you're not as big.
- 23:13Speaker 3: About Honestly, aside from kids movies, this is probably the
- 23:20Speaker 3: movie that I've seen the most in the last decade.
- 23:22Speaker 2: Totally. That's awesome though. Cool.
- 23:25Speaker 3: Yeah, my hot take, and I don't really like it.
- 23:29Speaker 3: I was kind of nitpicking a bit.
- 23:34Speaker 2: But you're like redhead Stump belong in space? Is that
- 23:37Speaker 2: your hot take belong in space?
- 23:41Speaker 1: No?
- 23:42Speaker 3: Hey, you are saying these things. Mine's meaner, Mine's a bummer.
- 23:47Speaker 3: I love Kristen Wig, but I felt like I didn't
- 23:50Speaker 3: really believe her in this role. She kind of takes
- 23:52Speaker 3: me out of it little every time she's not like
- 23:54Speaker 3: I just I don't know, because I know just how
- 24:00Speaker 3: funny and just like yeah, dynamic she is when she's
- 24:04Speaker 3: playing somebody like one hund like truth for I felt
- 24:10Speaker 3: like I was seeing her act bummed me out a
- 24:14Speaker 3: little bit because I love her so much.
- 24:17Speaker 2: Yeah, do you think that that's more to do with
- 24:19Speaker 2: us than her ability at that point? Maybe? Maybe for
- 24:23Speaker 2: some degree, because I like there's even like.
- 24:25Speaker 3: When when he's like coming back in and they show
- 24:28Speaker 3: her and she's like kind of supposed to be like
- 24:31Speaker 3: crying and she's clearly not crying, So then it's like
- 24:34Speaker 3: why are we why are we doing that?
- 24:36Speaker 2: But interesting, that's that's about all I could nip it.
- 24:39Speaker 2: I will say that part because she's playing it is
- 24:44Speaker 2: so much more noticeable than it probably needs to be,
- 24:47Speaker 2: you know what I mean? Like I because I always
- 24:49Speaker 2: find myself saying like, does she do more? She really doesn't.
- 24:52Speaker 2: She doesn't do like that's all. Okay, sounds good. Yeah,
- 24:56Speaker 2: I hear you. Yeah, interesting, hot take pal hot.
- 25:00Speaker 3: Yeah, not my favorite.
- 25:02Speaker 2: Let's just we won't. I love her so many Yes,
- 25:06Speaker 2: I get it, she's so great and everything else that Yeah,
- 25:10Speaker 2: you know, but he hot take hot take. Let's go
- 25:15Speaker 2: name our favorite acting performance show.
- 25:17Speaker 3: We name the Dude.
- 25:20Speaker 4: I'm the dude, So that's what you call me, you
- 25:23Speaker 4: know that? Or his duds or duder or you know,
- 25:29Speaker 4: eldudo reno if you're not into the whole brevity thing.
- 25:33Speaker 3: One person that, yeah, one person that I don't think
- 25:37Speaker 3: was like it was just me watching them act was
- 25:40Speaker 3: Matt Damon as Mark watney Man. He just completely like
- 25:48Speaker 3: from reading the book, he was just perfectly cast. It's
- 25:51Speaker 3: hard to imagine somebody better suited for that role than him.
- 25:57Speaker 3: I just loved his character. I loved his set up there.
- 26:00Speaker 3: He immediately got to work. He didn't wallow in self pity.
- 26:03Speaker 3: He just got to think in what he could do
- 26:05Speaker 3: to keep himself alive. He kept it upbeat, He was
- 26:08Speaker 3: funny in it. You know, break your heart a few
- 26:12Speaker 3: times when when there would be setbacks, but then he
- 26:14Speaker 3: just immediately you know, start solving more problems and in
- 26:20Speaker 3: a very very successful career. This is one of my
- 26:22Speaker 3: favorite roles of his.
- 26:24Speaker 2: I love it. I love it. Yeah, that's a hot take.
- 26:27Speaker 3: Yeah, at I didn't say my favorite, no, no, but one.
- 26:32Speaker 2: Yeah, even on the Rushmore or whatever, it is pretty yeah,
- 26:35Speaker 2: pretty compelling. I totally agree. I also picked him. I
- 26:40Speaker 2: think he's just wonderful in this role. Like you said,
- 26:43Speaker 2: infusing so much lightheartedness and comedy into this is it
- 26:48Speaker 2: was there in the source material, so I get that.
- 26:51Speaker 2: But also he brought that out in a very believable way,
- 26:54Speaker 2: which I think is great. I think I said it
- 26:57Speaker 2: on the last podcast too. So maybe I'm going through
- 27:00Speaker 2: some things where this is often of mine, but I
- 27:02Speaker 2: think being able to have that humor during the hard
- 27:08Speaker 2: times is like a really it's a big part of humanity,
- 27:11Speaker 2: I think, you know, and just the part of our superpower,
- 27:13Speaker 2: and I think he shows that a ton in this
- 27:16Speaker 2: I'm with You. He's so capable and smart that it's
- 27:19Speaker 2: really fun to watch. And also things still go wrong,
- 27:24Speaker 2: which is very compelling, you know, And just his relationships
- 27:29Speaker 2: he has, like him and Michael Pania together are just love.
- 27:33Speaker 2: Even though they're never really together in this movie, which
- 27:35Speaker 2: is weird, they just have such a fun reparte. I
- 27:40Speaker 2: really like it a lot. But yeah, I thought he
- 27:42Speaker 2: was awesome in this. He struck like the perfect balance
- 27:46Speaker 2: of like not being helpless, but also you could tell
- 27:51Speaker 2: at times he was like, I mean, I'm for sure
- 27:52Speaker 2: gonna die up here, like you know, but I'm not
- 27:55Speaker 2: not right now, you know, Like yeah, and like the
- 27:59Speaker 2: just the scenes and there's that one scene where they
- 28:01Speaker 2: talk about it's like every every day I just go
- 28:03Speaker 2: out and look just because I can. Then I was like,
- 28:06Speaker 2: I felt like you felt that from him in a
- 28:08Speaker 2: big way. So yeah, I just I'm one hundred percent
- 28:11Speaker 2: with you. He's the dude for sure.
- 28:14Speaker 3: For surely the two she's going to take a while,
- 28:17Speaker 3: so we might as well get into that. Yeah, let's
- 28:19Speaker 3: pick a why don't you start off with this? This
- 28:24Speaker 3: was tough, well, this is awkward. She's the best part
- 28:27Speaker 3: of the film. It's Kristen Wigg.
- 28:28Speaker 2: I don't know. I'm just kidding. I didn't pick her.
- 28:32Speaker 3: I don't.
- 28:33Speaker 2: I totally get what you're saying. Yeah, I think, man,
- 28:40Speaker 2: it's a real tie for me. But I'll just say
- 28:43Speaker 2: Jessica ches Stang because I think she's wonderful in this movie.
- 28:47Speaker 2: I love her in pretty much everything. I think I
- 28:50Speaker 2: do too. I think she's really like in my own brain.
- 28:53Speaker 2: I'm not saying others, but I think I she's in
- 28:57Speaker 2: so many things that I love that I almost like forget,
- 28:59Speaker 2: like I undervalue or something almost. But I think she's
- 29:03Speaker 2: really great in this also toes the line between she's
- 29:08Speaker 2: the commander and has to make some really hard choices,
- 29:10Speaker 2: including leaving him, even though that's the right call based
- 29:14Speaker 2: on the info that she has, but then also, you know,
- 29:18Speaker 2: just being a fully fledged human person and you know
- 29:22Speaker 2: character that's rounded out. I just think she's really really
- 29:24Speaker 2: great in this, So you'll take her, and I know
- 29:27Speaker 2: we'll talk about many more.
- 29:28Speaker 3: Who would you use so many more? It was just
- 29:32Speaker 3: the person who I thought stole the movie. While it's
- 29:36Speaker 3: clearly Matt Damon's movie, Yeah, this guy has two scenes
- 29:40Speaker 3: and completely crushes it. And it's Donald Glover is Rich Pernell.
- 29:44Speaker 3: He's so good and it isn't he He kind of
- 29:47Speaker 3: steals the movie for it.
- 29:48Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm with you.
- 29:50Speaker 3: But I love that. He's just this brilliant mind. He
- 29:54Speaker 3: doesn't really understand the politics and how to speak with
- 29:56Speaker 3: people in charge. He you know, he's just like I
- 30:00Speaker 3: figured something out, I'm going to tell you this, and
- 30:03Speaker 3: he was able to dumb it down for them enough
- 30:05Speaker 3: and like actually had to have stand across the room.
- 30:08Speaker 3: Yes exactly, Yeah, but he just get straight to the point.
- 30:12Speaker 3: I really enjoyed him in this a lot.
- 30:14Speaker 2: Love that. That's a great pick. He was on my
- 30:16Speaker 2: list for sure.
- 30:18Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 30:19Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 30:20Speaker 3: My runner up would have been Michae opinion pretty much
- 30:22Speaker 3: just because their chemistry between, you know, just kind of
- 30:27Speaker 3: giving each other and you know, when he's super stressed out,
- 30:32Speaker 3: he can still just throw like a sarcastic email to him.
- 30:36Speaker 3: You know, it's there's this underlying sense of knowing that
- 30:42Speaker 3: he loves him very much too, you know, just like, yeah,
- 30:46Speaker 3: it was a really fun role. I enjoyed it.
- 30:47Speaker 2: He's just a botanist, you know whatever. Just really fun,
- 30:53Speaker 2: very like true friend stuff.
- 30:55Speaker 3: I feel like, right, totally, totally.
- 30:58Speaker 2: I had him as a runner up for sure. We
- 31:00Speaker 2: love him. I think everyone knows that. How about Jeff Daniels,
- 31:06Speaker 2: That dude was great in this movie. He was perfect,
- 31:09Speaker 2: very serious role for him, but man, he's wonderful in it.
- 31:13Speaker 3: It felt like Jeff Daniels newsroom, newsroom.
- 31:16Speaker 2: Agree, agree, he's really great. I love Chewatil Edgi four.
- 31:20Speaker 3: Of course he's he's.
- 31:23Speaker 2: So good in this and he has a pretty big
- 31:25Speaker 2: part that I you know, watching it now, honestly trying
- 31:28Speaker 2: to think about things, you know, more than usual, I
- 31:31Speaker 2: was like, oh, he's like a like almost a I
- 31:34Speaker 2: don't know, a second or third probably like I.
- 31:36Speaker 3: Feel I feel like he was probably second most on screen,
- 31:39Speaker 3: I bet, which.
- 31:40Speaker 2: Is pretty wild. I love him. And then Mackenzie Davis
- 31:45Speaker 2: I really love. She doesn't get to do a ton
- 31:48Speaker 2: in this movie, but everything she does I really like
- 31:51Speaker 2: and I like her. I don't know, that character is
- 31:54Speaker 2: just fun. I like how she interacts with everybody else,
- 31:57Speaker 2: and you know, yeah, she was great.
- 32:00Speaker 3: Benedict Wong has some really fun scenes.
- 32:02Speaker 2: He's so fun when he's just like, all right, we'll
- 32:05Speaker 2: do it in three weeks less time this.
- 32:07Speaker 3: He just looks exhausted constantly.
- 32:09Speaker 2: He's so good in this. That's a great for sure.
- 32:12Speaker 3: I really really liked him in this. And then some
- 32:14Speaker 3: kind of like they were great but kind of forgettable. Sure,
- 32:20Speaker 3: Sebastians stand and Kate Mara like they're both in it
- 32:23Speaker 3: and they're both wonderful actors. But it just goes to
- 32:26Speaker 3: show you how nuts this cast is. You can just
- 32:29Speaker 3: have those people kind of like it, like.
- 32:32Speaker 2: In the background they.
- 32:34Speaker 3: Were kind of just hang out in the back. Yeah,
- 32:36Speaker 3: it's bizarre.
- 32:38Speaker 2: No, I thought the same thing because I was like,
- 32:40Speaker 2: I love both of them, but also you know, like, yeah,
- 32:43Speaker 2: they're fine and it's cool, but.
- 32:45Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know. They didn't have a ton to do,
- 32:48Speaker 3: and it's amazing that they did it.
- 32:51Speaker 2: What about scene being Buddy, I mean, he's in it
- 32:54Speaker 2: for a hot minute.
- 32:55Speaker 3: And he's great. He's wonderful in it, and I love
- 32:59Speaker 3: Have you seen them where it's like it's either seen
- 33:02Speaker 3: Bean or Sean Bond. You can't have it both ways.
- 33:05Speaker 2: Yeah, that is great. We have to pick.
- 33:10Speaker 3: I saw that and I immediately sent it.
- 33:13Speaker 2: To Yeah, did she make it?
- 33:16Speaker 3: Seriously?
- 33:19Speaker 2: I love that. That's really great.
- 33:21Speaker 3: You know, but that was really fun having him in there.
- 33:24Speaker 3: And spoiler alert, he doesn't like die immediately amazing everything
- 33:30Speaker 3: he's in, he's just like gone early.
- 33:33Speaker 2: And maybe the reason I love this movie so much.
- 33:35Speaker 2: There's just some some lovely Lord of the Rings comments
- 33:39Speaker 2: that I know.
- 33:40Speaker 3: I was like, I bet, I know what your favorite
- 33:42Speaker 3: scene is going to be.
- 33:44Speaker 2: Maybebe that's pretty good. And then the last one that
- 33:49Speaker 2: I wrote down, I didn't think he was particularly like
- 33:52Speaker 2: amazing in this, but this must have been the first
- 33:54Speaker 2: time I ever saw him, that Nick Mohammad Nate from
- 33:57Speaker 2: teb Las And I always think that's crazy because I'm
- 34:01Speaker 2: sure we saw him not too terribly long after this,
- 34:03Speaker 2: But yeah, he came in such a different character too, obviously.
- 34:09Speaker 2: But yeah, did you have anyone else that you feel
- 34:13Speaker 2: people know?
- 34:14Speaker 3: And I mean there's there's still more people, but yeah,
- 34:17Speaker 3: this cast is just insane.
- 34:19Speaker 2: It's a stack and pack my friend. Yeah, well, let's
- 34:23Speaker 2: talk scenes. Let's talk about our favorite scene. Shall we
- 34:25Speaker 2: name the dingas?
- 34:27Speaker 3: The Dingus Sods? Is quite simple, really, Dingus Ingus.
- 34:32Speaker 2: I can talk about my dingas all night long. Why
- 34:35Speaker 2: don't you go first on this one? Pat?
- 34:38Speaker 3: Oh gosh, oh boys, this was really really hard. Yeah,
- 34:41Speaker 3: there's a lot of me do you do you have
- 34:43Speaker 3: a clear number one? Because if you have a clear
- 34:46Speaker 3: number one, you can go because otherwise I'll just kind
- 34:48Speaker 3: of say. Some scenes.
- 34:51Speaker 2: I really like. I do really like their Rich Parnell
- 34:54Speaker 2: maneuver scene.
- 34:56Speaker 3: When he's just that is honestly what I yeah, when.
- 34:59Speaker 2: He's talking like so it starts with this is just
- 35:01Speaker 2: funny because it's like, well, it starts with the Lord
- 35:04Speaker 2: of the Rings comments, which I do love. We get
- 35:06Speaker 2: to talk to Rondel and all those things, right, super fun,
- 35:10Speaker 2: super nerdy, great stuff. But then him like explaining it
- 35:15Speaker 2: them having to you know, figure out like, oh crap,
- 35:18Speaker 2: we only get one shot at this. There's like the
- 35:21Speaker 2: power struggle that happens in there. I just think it's
- 35:25Speaker 2: really really fun that part. I really like it a lot.
- 35:28Speaker 3: So that is also what I put down for my
- 35:30Speaker 3: number one. That's pretty great.
- 35:32Speaker 2: That is great.
- 35:34Speaker 3: I think my favorite shot of the movie, and it's
- 35:38Speaker 3: just because of the acting, is when Matt Damon is
- 35:43Speaker 3: Gamon is trying not to audibly cry into a suit
- 35:48Speaker 3: when he hears everyone's voices before it's to meet them.
- 35:52Speaker 3: So great, so powerful man I'm gonna give you.
- 35:56Speaker 2: One for free. That's a boohoo for me for sure.
- 35:59Speaker 3: That is he was doing such an amazing.
- 36:03Speaker 2: Job in that agreed. Yeah, still trying.
- 36:07Speaker 3: To play it off cool, but he's crying.
- 36:09Speaker 2: To be able to do that in probably just a
- 36:12Speaker 2: room by yourself with a bunch of people working on
- 36:14Speaker 2: the film. Like that's acting as wild. There's some magicy there.
- 36:18Speaker 2: I love it. Yeah, that's so cool. Yeah, I love that.
- 36:22Speaker 2: That's a great call. How about just that beginning scene,
- 36:28Speaker 2: like going from them being just like astronauts and scientists,
- 36:34Speaker 2: the storm comes up, which is nuts, all the things happen,
- 36:38Speaker 2: and then to him doing surgery on himself. That's a
- 36:41Speaker 2: hell of a first you know, first part of the movie.
- 36:44Speaker 3: It's really good for sure. And that stitching himself up
- 36:48Speaker 3: scene was really incredible. I felt myself kind of like
- 36:53Speaker 3: not breathing regularly.
- 36:55Speaker 2: Me too.
- 36:56Speaker 3: I was almost holding my breath the way that he
- 36:58Speaker 3: was able to do that, and they really kind of
- 37:00Speaker 3: draw it out, You're like really engaged the time is
- 37:05Speaker 3: he going to like he's going to use a staple
- 37:08Speaker 3: on his skin like that? And just like, yeah, I.
- 37:10Speaker 2: See how smart he is because he like looks to
- 37:12Speaker 2: see if they line up, to know if he got
- 37:14Speaker 2: all of it, you know, all the things right.
- 37:16Speaker 3: It's just like a wow, piece of shrapnel that's in
- 37:19Speaker 3: it and wild.
- 37:20Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 37:22Speaker 3: Yeah, it was intense. Man.
- 37:23Speaker 2: I just love that.
- 37:24Speaker 3: And then his reaction once he's done and just like
- 37:27Speaker 3: just like he's like almost crying. Yeah, dude, that was
- 37:35Speaker 3: That was really cool. I also had to put that down.
- 37:39Speaker 3: The other thing I wrote down was just I can't
- 37:41Speaker 3: pinpoint one scene, but just watching him problem solve on
- 37:45Speaker 3: Mars was just so entertaining. It was great, And I
- 37:50Speaker 3: mean that happens like twelve times.
- 37:52Speaker 2: I know it's hard to pick a specific one. Maybe
- 37:55Speaker 2: the one for me was when he makes it to
- 37:58Speaker 2: Pathminder and like gets back and makes contact. That's the
- 38:02Speaker 2: first moment probably for him to write the character. But
- 38:06Speaker 2: like we're like, oh there's a chance, you know, almost
- 38:10Speaker 2: like oh, there's a tiny speck of hope here and
- 38:13Speaker 2: that's cool. I don't know, I just really like that part.
- 38:17Speaker 2: I also love the there's a couple like montage scenes
- 38:21Speaker 2: where like show stuff happening. The one that I like
- 38:24Speaker 2: a lot is the scene leading up to and then
- 38:27Speaker 2: showing him following through of how much they have to
- 38:30Speaker 2: jettison from the ship so that he can get up
- 38:33Speaker 2: and meet the folks, you know, right, It's like I
- 38:37Speaker 2: love what he's just like, he hasn't even got to
- 38:39Speaker 2: the bad stuff yet, and he's like, well, let's go
- 38:41Speaker 2: ahead and get to the bad stuff, you know, like
- 38:43Speaker 2: all that stuff. But then him just like having to
- 38:47Speaker 2: really get down down and dirty and get to work
- 38:49Speaker 2: and like unscrew all the things, and you know, this
- 38:53Speaker 2: five hundred kilogram thing he has to move it somehow,
- 38:56Speaker 2: and you know, all these things. So I just thought
- 38:58Speaker 2: that scene was really fun and showed like again all
- 39:02Speaker 2: the brain power that was with him, you know, and
- 39:05Speaker 2: his own and all that stuff.
- 39:08Speaker 3: For sure.
- 39:10Speaker 2: Uh what other runners up did you have? Do you
- 39:13Speaker 2: have any other ones? I mean.
- 39:17Speaker 3: The ones on Mars. If I had to pick one
- 39:20Speaker 3: of those, I'd probably say when he has the setback
- 39:25Speaker 3: making water, Yeah, that tells himself up. Yeah that is
- 39:30Speaker 3: that's pretty good.
- 39:31Speaker 2: Yea.
- 39:31Speaker 3: And you see him just with like the burnt hair,
- 39:34Speaker 3: and yeah, it's that's really fun.
- 39:36Speaker 2: It's pretty great. I also like when he goes and
- 39:40Speaker 2: gets the nuclear like stuff his cattle warmer and then
- 39:45Speaker 2: he's like I had bad news. This is like the
- 39:49Speaker 2: least disco song she has and it's stuff and then
- 39:57Speaker 2: him dancing and stuff in there is just really like
- 40:00Speaker 2: he gives himself that moment of like joy, you know,
- 40:03Speaker 2: which is really I like that nice.
- 40:08Speaker 3: Well, move forward to Donald Glover scene.
- 40:13Speaker 2: Yes, yes, I think so. I also love when he
- 40:16Speaker 2: I thought you were gonna say when he like discovers
- 40:19Speaker 2: it too, like that we first meet him. That seems
- 40:21Speaker 2: really fun as well.
- 40:23Speaker 3: Cool but yes, cool.
- 40:25Speaker 2: The explaining the Partnell maneuver is the scene.
- 40:28Speaker 3: Cool baby, all right, we picked it.
- 40:31Speaker 2: Well, let's go to show me the money, Show me
- 40:34Speaker 2: the money, show me.
- 40:41Speaker 3: Why don't you say something? I'm gonna throw another light
- 40:43Speaker 3: on It is storming outside, got dark in here, so
- 40:48Speaker 3: you started off.
- 40:49Speaker 2: Okay, let's see it's right away. Uh did you guys
- 40:54Speaker 2: hear that Watney just discovered dirt? He's like, and what
- 40:58Speaker 2: are you working on today? Martinez making sure that the
- 41:01Speaker 2: mav is upright? And he's like, I'll have you know
- 41:03Speaker 2: that visual inspection is imperative to the mission. Also, I'm
- 41:06Speaker 2: happy to report that the mav is in fact still upright.
- 41:11Speaker 2: That was really fun. It's super early, but I loved
- 41:13Speaker 2: their little Yeah, oh we're interesting, Like we're immediately seeing
- 41:18Speaker 2: what's happening with these folks, which is really fun. Let's see.
- 41:24Speaker 2: I also love speaking of Nick Muhammad when he's like
- 41:28Speaker 2: thirty two minutes around trip communication time, all he can
- 41:31Speaker 2: do is ask yester or no questions, and all we
- 41:33Speaker 2: can do is point the camera. This won't exactly be
- 41:36Speaker 2: an Algonquin round table of reparte. Are you kidding me, Jim?
- 41:41Speaker 2: Just point the camera?
- 41:42Speaker 3: Okay, yeah? Nice?
- 41:45Speaker 2: He they said what we were all thinking, like, my god,
- 41:48Speaker 2: shut up, nope, read the room just a tiny bit.
- 41:53Speaker 3: We're finally communicating.
- 41:55Speaker 2: So he's like, so, yeah, I blew myself up. Best.
- 41:59Speaker 2: Guess I forgot to account for the excess oxygen I've
- 42:02Speaker 2: been exhaling when I did my calculations because I'm stupid.
- 42:07Speaker 2: Not His delivery of that line was so great, like
- 42:11Speaker 2: I felt very real. Yeah, he's so obviously smart. One
- 42:17Speaker 2: QUIPI fun one was seriously Johansson, It's like the Smithsonian
- 42:21Speaker 2: of loneliness in here her on there. I think he's
- 42:25Speaker 2: talking about her lap. I thought that was really fun.
- 42:30Speaker 2: I guess this is another Nick Muhammed one. But he
- 42:32Speaker 2: says he's reading back what he wrote, and he's like, Okay,
- 42:36Speaker 2: he says, they don't know. I'm alive. What the F
- 42:40Speaker 2: word F word in Jared form? F word again is
- 42:44Speaker 2: wrong with you? I just thought the F word in
- 42:47Speaker 2: Jared form really makes me gig really for not Rob obviously,
- 42:53Speaker 2: because he's very smart, but that's adding an I g
- 42:56Speaker 2: because my understanding is what a Jared is here F
- 43:01Speaker 2: word in Jaron formally?
- 43:05Speaker 3: That is a nerdy way to say that.
- 43:07Speaker 2: That's the most nerdy, the peak nerdist. Yeah, you want
- 43:11Speaker 2: to say a couple I have so many written.
- 43:14Speaker 3: I do too, and it's mostly just quippy ye Wotney ones.
- 43:18Speaker 3: You know. I love his whole bit. He has this
- 43:22Speaker 3: kind of long little monologue. He's like, so I'm going
- 43:24Speaker 3: to be taking craft over in international waters without permission,
- 43:27Speaker 3: which by definition makes me a pirate Mark Wattney space.
- 43:32Speaker 2: Space pirate and like, well, technically it would be international
- 43:38Speaker 2: waters and she's like yeah, he.
- 43:40Speaker 5: Told yeah, yeah, I don't want to come off as
- 43:47Speaker 5: arrogant here, but I'm the greatest botanist on this planet.
- 43:51Speaker 2: So great, so great.
- 43:53Speaker 3: Pretty good that I love. In the face of overwhelming odds,
- 44:00Speaker 3: I'm left with only one option. I'm going to have
- 44:02Speaker 3: to science this.
- 44:04Speaker 2: Such a great line, a perfect line, just.
- 44:07Speaker 3: A fun nerdy dude.
- 44:11Speaker 2: Yeah, head, he thinks about the movie they're going to
- 44:15Speaker 2: make some day about him.
- 44:18Speaker 3: Yeah. I like when he is, uh, he is going
- 44:24Speaker 3: up to meet them finally, and then they have the
- 44:28Speaker 3: whole issue where they're coming in too low and he's
- 44:31Speaker 3: got to figure out and it figures out that if
- 44:33Speaker 3: he if he does something with his suit, he can
- 44:36Speaker 3: control where he's going with his arm. He's like, yes, yes,
- 44:39Speaker 3: those are all very good points. But consider this, I'd
- 44:41Speaker 3: get to fly around like Iron.
- 44:43Speaker 2: Man, Commander, let's go iron Man. But consider this. Yeah,
- 44:49Speaker 2: that is really great.
- 44:50Speaker 3: Yeah. And one fun one that Pat Nelson pointed out
- 44:56Speaker 3: to us and the last episode in Apollo thirteen, we
- 45:00Speaker 3: know why they say Rich Pernell is a steely eyed
- 45:04Speaker 3: missileman and they had used that in Apollo thirteen describing
- 45:11Speaker 3: Gene Krantz. Right yep.
- 45:13Speaker 2: Really fun, Yeah, really fun. And that's where I was like,
- 45:16Speaker 2: I didn't realize that was like a NASA thing, you know, yeah,
- 45:18Speaker 2: a NASA thing. Even it's great. I do love that one.
- 45:23Speaker 2: That's a good call. Yeah, why don't you say some
- 45:26Speaker 2: let's see. Uh, it's kind of similar to your Space
- 45:30Speaker 2: priate one but one owner. He's like, they say that
- 45:33Speaker 2: once you grow crops somewhere, you officially colonized it, So
- 45:36Speaker 2: technically I colonize Mars in your face, Neil Armstrong, Yeah,
- 45:45Speaker 2: Kristen Wig. When she's like I need a picture of
- 45:47Speaker 2: his face and I think it's Juba, Tel's like, well
- 45:49Speaker 2: I could have I could tell him to take off
- 45:51Speaker 2: his helmet, but he would you know, die die.
- 45:55Speaker 3: Yeah. When he does the fun it's.
- 45:57Speaker 2: A really fun, really fun and then I think, oh,
- 46:05Speaker 2: what did they say. Oh, they're getting like a status
- 46:07Speaker 2: upper update at one point, and she would tell us like, yeah,
- 46:11Speaker 2: he's been doing okay. He has a little hard time
- 46:14Speaker 2: with some of the botany people or whatever. He's like, why,
- 46:17Speaker 2: what's the problem. He's like, yeah, well, Mark has a
- 46:19Speaker 2: tendency to tell them to have sex with themselves when
- 46:21Speaker 2: they question one of his decisions.
- 46:23Speaker 3: I like how he says that again.
- 46:25Speaker 2: Just a super silly way of saying that. Right. The
- 46:30Speaker 2: whole el Ron thing, What the hell is Project Elron
- 46:33Speaker 2: el Ron because it's a secret meeting. It's the meeting
- 46:36Speaker 2: where they decide to destroy the one ring. If we're gonna
- 46:39Speaker 2: call something Project Elrond. I'd like my name to Pete Glorphandel.
- 46:42Speaker 2: I hate every one of you. Fun And at the
- 46:50Speaker 2: end when the commander's like, you're in Martinez his hands now,
- 46:55Speaker 2: and Watney just goes, well, tell that asshole no barrel
- 46:59Speaker 2: rolls's such a good line too.
- 47:02Speaker 3: And that's still while he's like, yes, you know, it's.
- 47:07Speaker 2: Just like that's the best I can come up with
- 47:09Speaker 2: right now. And when they're reunited, the first thing he
- 47:14Speaker 2: says is like, it's good to see you. You have
- 47:17Speaker 2: terrible taste in music, which I think is they're still
- 47:22Speaker 2: in space, I think at that point. And then when
- 47:26Speaker 2: they get inside the space shuttle and that he like
- 47:30Speaker 2: takes his helmet off. He's like, wha, look, got a
- 47:33Speaker 2: little smell going on over there. But he's like, yeah,
- 47:35Speaker 2: I haven't showered in a year and a half.
- 47:38Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 47:40Speaker 2: I just love that. That's like in kind of the background,
- 47:43Speaker 2: you know, just like whoa, yeah, but yeah, did you
- 47:48Speaker 2: have other ones?
- 47:49Speaker 3: I only had a couple more. Mars will come to
- 47:52Speaker 3: fear my botany powers.
- 47:53Speaker 2: I did love that one. That's a good call for sure.
- 47:58Speaker 3: I also loved You're getting quite the light display over here.
- 48:02Speaker 3: I got some serious stormage going. Oh I missed it
- 48:05Speaker 3: outside my window. You're gonna hear the thunder in my
- 48:09Speaker 3: audio for sure. Yes. So he has like a whole
- 48:14Speaker 3: bit about how pretty much he has to be in
- 48:19Speaker 3: this convertible into space and it's going to be super fast,
- 48:24Speaker 3: and he kind of has this long explanation. He's like,
- 48:27Speaker 3: so they're only doing that in the hopes that I
- 48:28Speaker 3: won't raise any objections to this lunacy because I like
- 48:32Speaker 3: the way fastest man in the history of space travel sounds.
- 48:36Speaker 3: I do like the way it sounds. I mean, I
- 48:39Speaker 3: like it a lot. I'm not going to tell them that, right,
- 48:46Speaker 3: just seeing him kind of process it, he's like, they
- 48:49Speaker 3: got me. I do like that.
- 48:51Speaker 2: I love that too, because it shows probably that's what
- 48:55Speaker 2: he does all day, you know, like he's just talking
- 48:57Speaker 2: things through it himself. Right, Yeah, I do.
- 49:01Speaker 3: I like it a lot, a lot.
- 49:04Speaker 2: It's really Yeah, that's a super good.
- 49:06Speaker 3: One and not not a great line, but it was
- 49:09Speaker 3: just funny in the context. He just he choose but
- 49:13Speaker 3: takes a bite out of potatoes, like it has been
- 49:16Speaker 3: seven days since I ran out of concha. Yeah, It's
- 49:19Speaker 3: like I could really feel that. Damn, that's a bomber.
- 49:22Speaker 2: That's when he's doing the biking in too, right. I
- 49:24Speaker 2: think that's exactly Yeah, but that's all I got. I
- 49:29Speaker 2: loved when I can't remember what Maybe it's right before
- 49:33Speaker 2: they tell him that he's going to be in the convertible.
- 49:36Speaker 2: It's probably right around that time. But uh when he
- 49:39Speaker 2: writes are you f and kidding me? Or jar form
- 49:44Speaker 2: kidding me? And uh yeah becausey Davis, and they're like,
- 49:51Speaker 2: do you think he means it? Like are you kidding me?
- 49:54Speaker 2: Or like are you kidding me? And she's like, I
- 49:57Speaker 2: think I think it might be the second one. He's like, really,
- 50:00Speaker 2: because it couldn't be. Are you kidding me? He's like, yeah,
- 50:04Speaker 2: it could be that way.
- 50:08Speaker 3: She switched it up.
- 50:09Speaker 2: Just throw them a bone, Okay, Yeah, yeah, I was
- 50:15Speaker 2: really fun. Oh let's see. Oh, and I just loved
- 50:21Speaker 2: when he was like, but as long as he's talking
- 50:24Speaker 2: about the isotope, as long as I don't break it.
- 50:27Speaker 2: I almost said, everything will be fine out loud. The
- 50:29Speaker 2: point is I'm no longer cult. Just when he's like,
- 50:33Speaker 2: as long as I don't I'm an idiot, don't get
- 50:35Speaker 2: out of here. Yeah, I also loved Sorry Martinez, if
- 50:40Speaker 2: you didn't want me to go through your personal items,
- 50:42Speaker 2: you shouldn't have left me behind on this desolate planet.
- 50:46Speaker 3: Yeah, I loved it. I loved it.
- 50:51Speaker 2: And then his final speech I thought was really fun
- 50:53Speaker 2: when he's like, yes, I did survive, but yeah, the
- 50:57Speaker 2: deserted planet by farming my own ship. Yes, it's actually
- 51:00Speaker 2: worse than it sounds. So let's not talk about that ever. Again.
- 51:03Speaker 2: The other question I get the most frequently is when
- 51:05Speaker 2: I was stranded up there by myself, did I think
- 51:07Speaker 2: I was gonna die? Yes? Absolutely, And that's one you
- 51:10Speaker 2: need to know, right, you know, need to know going
- 51:13Speaker 2: in because it's going to happen to you. This is space.
- 51:16Speaker 2: It does not cooperate. At some point, everything is going
- 51:19Speaker 2: to go south on you. Everything is going to go
- 51:22Speaker 2: and you're gonna say, this is it. This is how
- 51:24Speaker 2: I end. Now. You can either accept that or you
- 51:26Speaker 2: can get to work. That's it. You just begin, you
- 51:29Speaker 2: do the math. You solve one problem, then you solve
- 51:31Speaker 2: the next one and the next, and if you solve enough,
- 51:34Speaker 2: you get to come home. All right. Any questions like
- 51:36Speaker 2: I just I love that, I think that's.
- 51:40Speaker 3: Yeah, it was a great way to end.
- 51:41Speaker 2: It's so fun to see him and the train, yes,
- 51:44Speaker 2: which is so great, and it's fun to see. I
- 51:47Speaker 2: love that we see like they didn't get court martialed
- 51:50Speaker 2: and he gets to go back to space, you know,
- 51:52Speaker 2: like we see the list going back to Yeah, he's
- 51:57Speaker 2: the only one. Everyone else was back on Earth. But
- 52:00Speaker 2: it's just fun, fun to see.
- 52:01Speaker 3: That's fun.
- 52:03Speaker 2: That was all the ones I wrote down, though, which
- 52:04Speaker 2: is funny, right one.
- 52:06Speaker 3: Well, let's go to muse boohoo. It's only way. So
- 52:12Speaker 3: it was tough for me, I get, and I feel
- 52:15Speaker 3: like it might have been tough for you too, see
- 52:17Speaker 3: after seeing it this many times, maybe you're a little
- 52:19Speaker 3: more desensitized. So I kind of put that into play.
- 52:23Speaker 3: But I just wrote him too, and uh, the obvious
- 52:29Speaker 3: one when he hears the voice for the first time
- 52:31Speaker 3: and he's crying while trying to God.
- 52:33Speaker 2: I love that so much. We should have maybe been
- 52:36Speaker 2: the scene of the movie. Honestly, that's so good, so good. Yeah,
- 52:40Speaker 2: I love that that.
- 52:42Speaker 3: I think it's fine if we take the Donald over
- 52:44Speaker 3: scene in that for let's yeah, and then just when
- 52:51Speaker 3: he joins the ship with them. I know it's funny,
- 52:53Speaker 3: but like you see it's wonderful, how lovely there, Yeah, absolutely,
- 52:59Speaker 3: and there might and some other ones, but I personally, yeah,
- 53:03Speaker 3: I didn't get too choked up in the other spots.
- 53:04Speaker 2: Nice. There's just a couple more, Okay, let's see. Uh. Well,
- 53:11Speaker 2: the first is when they leave him because they really
- 53:13Speaker 2: don't want to obviously, and like they have that line
- 53:16Speaker 2: Sebastian stan is like my best one of my best
- 53:19Speaker 2: friends just died. I don't want to lose my commander
- 53:20Speaker 2: too or whatever like all that. That was nice. When
- 53:25Speaker 2: the hab is breached and he like breaks down in
- 53:29Speaker 2: the rover afterward, you know, when it explodes and all
- 53:32Speaker 2: the screaming and just like, you know, he's just like
- 53:35Speaker 2: another thing, you know. I don't know. That got me
- 53:37Speaker 2: for sure. I loved when they got to talk to him.
- 53:41Speaker 2: I just thought that was so fun, even though it
- 53:43Speaker 2: was text messages for us, it was like a conversation. Yeah,
- 53:48Speaker 2: it's a fun scene. Actually. I like that scene in general.
- 53:52Speaker 2: The Michael people, Yeah, they told us we can talk
- 53:54Speaker 2: to you now, you know all that stuff. I drew
- 53:58Speaker 2: the short straw yeah yeah, right right. And then the
- 54:01Speaker 2: last one I had was a really beautiful scene too.
- 54:05Speaker 2: But uh, the message to Commander Lewis about talking to
- 54:08Speaker 2: his parents after he's been like I might not make it.
- 54:13Speaker 3: Back, you know, like, yeah, that's a really good one.
- 54:16Speaker 2: And just that quote is so good when he's like
- 54:20Speaker 2: it's gonna suck, but that's why I need you to
- 54:22Speaker 2: do it. And then he's like, ye, tell him, I
- 54:24Speaker 2: love what I do.
- 54:25Speaker 3: Thank him for being way. That's just so Yeah, that
- 54:28Speaker 3: was a beautiful scene. That's a good call.
- 54:30Speaker 2: I choose those. But yeah, so it was what five
- 54:33Speaker 2: probably six? Ye, Yeah, we close.
- 54:37Speaker 3: Didn't do great on that one.
- 54:38Speaker 2: You did great as you do it.
- 54:40Speaker 3: And this was some trivia rivia.
- 54:43Speaker 2: Let's see Rich Purnell Donald Globber slips and falls as
- 54:48Speaker 2: he find when he like realizes he has a way
- 54:51Speaker 2: to help Mark Watney and he says, I need more coffee.
- 54:54Speaker 1: Uh.
- 54:54Speaker 2: It was revealed in an interview that that was real
- 54:57Speaker 2: and he just got up and kept going, so he
- 54:59Speaker 2: wasn't supposed to fall. It just happened and it.
- 55:01Speaker 3: Was perfect knows, comedic timing anyway, really smart, really great.
- 55:11Speaker 2: I thought this was fun. They they made a real
- 55:12Speaker 2: potato farm and it was installed on the studio a
- 55:15Speaker 2: lot with potatoes in all stages. Of growth so they
- 55:18Speaker 2: could be used for filming. I just think that's fun
- 55:20Speaker 2: to think about. NASA was consulted in order to get
- 55:25Speaker 2: aspects of the space travel and space correct, specifically in
- 55:29Speaker 2: relation to Mars, with the most accuracy. NASA's federally funded.
- 55:33Speaker 2: I didn't know this, but it doesn't charge anyone, including
- 55:37Speaker 2: private for profit organizations, any fees for use and access
- 55:41Speaker 2: to its archives and consultancies. So I just think that's cool.
- 55:44Speaker 2: They're like, well, this belongs to all of us a
- 55:46Speaker 2: little bit. That's cool. Apparently Matt Damon's solo scenes were
- 55:52Speaker 2: shot for five weeks straight, after which Damon was relieved
- 55:56Speaker 2: from the schedule and so consequently he didn't see most
- 56:01Speaker 2: of his co stars again until the cast was reunited
- 56:03Speaker 2: to promote the film. So just thinking about that would
- 56:07Speaker 2: be weird. But five weeks straight of solo shots Wolf.
- 56:11Speaker 3: And another thing that's interesting about that. If that is true? Yeah,
- 56:17Speaker 3: did he Was he able to get that skinny in
- 56:19Speaker 3: five weeks?
- 56:20Speaker 2: I think they said I think I have it later.
- 56:24Speaker 2: That was cgih actual. I think he was willing to
- 56:27Speaker 2: do it, but they were like, no, we don't, let's
- 56:31Speaker 2: not do so I think they used some cgi cool.
- 56:35Speaker 2: It might come up later, I can't see it first
- 56:38Speaker 2: scroll here. But this whole film was only seventy two
- 56:42Speaker 2: days of shooting, which seems pretty pretty short, really, I guess,
- 56:46Speaker 2: I don't know, but seems short. Let's see, ye two
- 56:51Speaker 2: and a half months. It's scientifically accurate that we can
- 56:55Speaker 2: survive in a vacuum for about a minute four things
- 56:58Speaker 2: go bad, which I didn't know. That's cool. I thought
- 57:04Speaker 2: this was interesting. So the atmospheric pressure on the Martian
- 57:07Speaker 2: surface is like zero point six percent of Earth's sea
- 57:12Speaker 2: level pressure, and it's so low that like a fear storm,
- 57:16Speaker 2: as they put it, would be something closer to a
- 57:19Speaker 2: very light breeze messing up your hair on Earth, so
- 57:23Speaker 2: that on Earth would create like a crazy storm up there.
- 57:28Speaker 2: And they also said that because the there's low air
- 57:32Speaker 2: density up there, the sound wouldn't be the same, so
- 57:36Speaker 2: obviously that would be different than that was different in
- 57:39Speaker 2: the film, right, And then they had to do some
- 57:42Speaker 2: crazy stuff where they like slowed down the footage to
- 57:46Speaker 2: make it look more floaty when they were onlike the surface,
- 57:50Speaker 2: which was pretty cool. But yeah, I just thought that
- 57:53Speaker 2: was interesting. Ridley Scott claimed that one of the most
- 57:58Speaker 2: difficult scenes to direct was how to explain to the
- 58:01Speaker 2: audience the hexadecimal system that Watney used as a code,
- 58:05Speaker 2: which I.
- 58:06Speaker 3: Thought they did a good job.
- 58:07Speaker 2: But that, yeah, I thought they did too, because I
- 58:09Speaker 2: was like, I mean, I don't really get it, but
- 58:11Speaker 2: enough enough to you know, go on like that's fun.
- 58:15Speaker 2: I just thought it was fun. Andy Weir wrote his
- 58:18Speaker 2: own computer programs using real Earth and Mars alignment data
- 58:23Speaker 2: to determine the best theoretical date for the area's three
- 58:25Speaker 2: emission to launch, which is seems overboard, but good for him.
- 58:29Speaker 2: Good for him.
- 58:30Speaker 3: He was very very Adam and Ton making the math mass.
- 58:34Speaker 2: Yeah, that is interesting. I just thought this was interesting.
- 58:39Speaker 2: The Olympus Mons is shown, which is in one of
- 58:42Speaker 2: the panoramic shots of Mars, and that's the largest discovered
- 58:46Speaker 2: volcano in the Solar System. It's three times larger than
- 58:50Speaker 2: Mount Everest and covers an area above the size of
- 58:52Speaker 2: Missouri apparently, but it's also twice as tall as Everest,
- 58:58Speaker 2: so that's just crazy to think of ut scale wise,
- 59:01Speaker 2: it's huge, huge. All of the exteriors on Mars were
- 59:06Speaker 2: shot inside the Korda Studios and Ettiech Hungary and they
- 59:12Speaker 2: built him inside of their The production designer Arthur Max.
- 59:16Speaker 2: We built it in Budapest in the Corda Studios, which
- 59:20Speaker 2: was the biggest. The reason we went there is because
- 59:22Speaker 2: it has the biggest stage in the world currently. It's
- 59:25Speaker 2: as big of an area as the Advanced stage in Pinewood,
- 59:28Speaker 2: the previous record holder, but it's twenty odd feet higher.
- 59:32Speaker 2: So we could go in and put the biggest green
- 59:34Speaker 2: screen in the world, a four walled green screen, and
- 59:37Speaker 2: it was enough space to do a big Martian landscape.
- 59:40Speaker 2: Drive our rover around at speed, reset, go around all
- 59:43Speaker 2: those things. So cool. Must be a giant place. So cool,
- 59:48Speaker 2: so cool.
- 59:49Speaker 3: It's awesome.
- 59:49Speaker 2: Yeah, because I was wondering where they, you know, did it.
- 59:52Speaker 3: But yeah, sawhere, Papa.
- 59:58Speaker 2: There's some Glorphindil information on. I don't know that people
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: actually care. I thought it was fun. Maybe I'll just
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: stay tuned for the Glorfandil hour after this. In the novel,
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: when Watney is rescued, he mentions that if this were
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: a Hollywood movie, the entire crew would gather in the
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: airlock and high five each other. And this is exactly
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: what happens at the end of the movie. I thought
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: that was really fun. I remember reading that. I was like, oh,
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: they did do that. That's fun, okay cool. Matt Damon
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: admitted that that scene where Mark is getting emotional upon
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: hearing Commander Lewis's voice was genuine. The other actors had
- 1:00:31Speaker 2: rapped and gone home, and their pre recorded voices were
- 1:00:34Speaker 2: actually being played to Damon inside his spacesuit. When Damon
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: began to think about how his character would have been
- 1:00:39Speaker 2: all alone on Mars for two years alongside how he
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: was only hearing pre recorded voices of his co stars
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: who had already finish their scenes, he began to tear up,
- 1:00:49Speaker 2: and Sir Ridley Scott was so impressed with his performance
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: that he only did one take of the scene, which
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: is the one used in the film. So that was
- 1:00:56Speaker 2: a one take shot and it's so good, awesome crazy.
- 1:01:03Speaker 2: When Nasa and Wantney first establish written communication, Wantney drops
- 1:01:07Speaker 2: an F bomb and he has warned to watch his
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: language because everything he types is being broadcast globally. In
- 1:01:12Speaker 2: the film, his response is not shown only the reaction
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: of others, but in the novel his response is look
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: a pair of boobs, and then he just does like
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: parentheses and you know, things to make it look like verbs.
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: I thought that's fun. Yeah, oh, and this is wild,
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: this is my last one. In the novel, it's revealed
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: that the Hermes crew has a contingency for if they
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: mangle the supply mission. In the rich Pernell maneuver maneuver,
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: it is decided that since Johansson is the smallest of
- 1:01:45Speaker 2: the crew and would thus require the least amount of food,
- 1:01:49Speaker 2: the rest of the crew will commit suicide so that
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: they a don't waste the valuable food supplies and b
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: she can eat them for protein, leaving her the sole
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: survivor when the supply run is a success. Martinez asked
- 1:02:03Speaker 2: who she was going to eat first, saying he thinks
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: that he'd taste best, and Johnson floats away from him
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: and he calls out, what I thought you'd liked, Mexican?
- 1:02:13Speaker 2: I thought that was fun? But why that would have
- 1:02:16Speaker 2: been a weird scene to have in the movie, very strange.
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: That was all I had. Did you have any trud.
- 1:02:26Speaker 3: Just a little bit? I just saw Neil deGrasse. Tyson
- 1:02:29Speaker 3: said that it's the most accurate film he's ever seen
- 1:02:32Speaker 3: in regards to astrophysics and how Mars would be if inhabited,
- 1:02:36Speaker 3: which is always fun. I also saw that Drew Goddard,
- 1:02:40Speaker 3: who wrote the screenplay, was also at one point set
- 1:02:43Speaker 3: to direct, but he left that role to direct a
- 1:02:46Speaker 3: Spider Man spinoff that never materialized, and after that, Ridley
- 1:02:51Speaker 3: Scott read the script and joined the project.
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: That's worked out, I guess.
- 1:02:55Speaker 3: And lastly, Cate Blanchette was Sir Ridley Scott's original choice
- 1:03:00Speaker 3: for the role of Commander Lewis, and it would have
- 1:03:03Speaker 3: marked a reunion between the actress and director after Robin Hood,
- 1:03:08Speaker 3: but Blanchett couldn't take it due to a scheduling conflict,
- 1:03:12Speaker 3: and Jessica Chastain a pretty great number two to get.
- 1:03:18Speaker 2: I will say, would I probably crushed it too, right,
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: I mean she's great as well.
- 1:03:23Speaker 3: Both are incredible.
- 1:03:24Speaker 2: Yeah, wow, that's cool. Interesting.
- 1:03:26Speaker 3: That was all I had for actors up Nice. Further,
- 1:03:29Speaker 3: I think they got everyone else they wanted.
- 1:03:31Speaker 2: It seems yeah, I don't know what else they do,
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: you know. Yeah, that's a good point for sure. Nice.
- 1:03:39Speaker 2: Will there be a sequel judgment day.
- 1:03:42Speaker 3: No, But Project Hill Mary is coming out. It sounds
- 1:03:46Speaker 3: like March of next year.
- 1:03:48Speaker 2: I need to start exercising not having too high expectations
- 1:03:52Speaker 2: before that. I know, I think it's gonna be fun.
- 1:03:56Speaker 2: But Tampa down, Tampa down.
- 1:03:59Speaker 3: Team it down. So this is the part where we
- 1:04:05Speaker 3: play a game usually, and I definitely didn't think about
- 1:04:11Speaker 3: having somebody give us a name to do a last
- 1:04:15Speaker 3: Man Stanton.
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: That's fair.
- 1:04:19Speaker 3: So let's just brainstorm for a second here on the air.
- 1:04:22Speaker 2: I have these cars live.
- 1:04:24Speaker 3: You want to do a card yes, or.
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: We could not play a game this time and doing
- 1:04:30Speaker 2: I don't know whatever you want to do, Babit.
- 1:04:32Speaker 3: I'm down for whatever.
- 1:04:33Speaker 2: I just or I'm sure to think of what other things.
- 1:04:38Speaker 2: Let say I have other cards, I have some other
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: movie or.
- 1:04:41Speaker 3: I could look at like the IMDb's Top Hop, you
- 1:04:45Speaker 3: know they always have like who's trending currently, and we
- 1:04:49Speaker 3: could try and see if there's somebody there that, yeah,
- 1:04:54Speaker 3: we can do that. We could do their filmography, that's cool.
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: Maybe the cards car because like one of us has
- 1:05:02Speaker 2: to like leave and then yeah, it's kind of weird,
- 1:05:05Speaker 2: and I'm open to doing that if you think that's best.
- 1:05:08Speaker 3: Or Born Today, Born Today Catherine Zada Jones, will Smith,
- 1:05:16Speaker 3: Mark Hammill, Michael Douglas is interesting.
- 1:05:23Speaker 2: That would have very many for him.
- 1:05:26Speaker 3: I mean he's been like, he's been in a bunch
- 1:05:29Speaker 3: of things.
- 1:05:31Speaker 2: Have we done Will Smith?
- 1:05:34Speaker 3: Oh? Yeah, have we here? I have the list? But sorry, guys,
- 1:05:41Speaker 3: this is probably very entertaining.
- 1:05:43Speaker 2: It's okay, you're learning about.
- 1:05:46Speaker 3: Last time, Stanton. Yeah, we've done Will Smith. Dang it.
- 1:05:54Speaker 2: I'm not doing well on Michael Douglas in my brain.
- 1:05:58Speaker 3: Most popular celebrities. Okay, Robert Redford is number one.
- 1:06:03Speaker 2: I'm only seeing a few, but.
- 1:06:06Speaker 3: I know a couple I would do better on Douglas.
- 1:06:09Speaker 3: Charlie Sheen, for whatever reason, is number six right now. Wow, Leo,
- 1:06:16Speaker 3: we have done twice. Jason Bateman is fifteen.
- 1:06:24Speaker 2: Well, that'd be we could try Baitman. Have we done
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: him before?
- 1:06:28Speaker 3: No?
- 1:06:29Speaker 2: It might be kind of short, but we could try
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: it be.
- 1:06:31Speaker 3: Short, but let's do it. I just watched him in
- 1:06:34Speaker 3: Black Rabbit. It's very uh uh apropos.
- 1:06:39Speaker 2: All right, so we're doing Baitman. We're doing Baitmann, bait
- 1:06:44Speaker 2: MANA and okay, okay, well I just start with Horrible Bosses.
- 1:06:55Speaker 3: Horrible Bosses too. We did that quickly.
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: Yeah. H What else is he being in? Is it
- 1:07:04Speaker 2: called the change up? I think that's what it's called.
- 1:07:08Speaker 3: That is what it's called him and right. Yeah, yeah, okay, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:07:14Speaker 3: I'm gonna do Game Night.
- 1:07:17Speaker 2: Great one, dude, God, that movie is fun.
- 1:07:20Speaker 3: Uh.
- 1:07:22Speaker 2: It was probably too early to do it. But I
- 1:07:24Speaker 2: don't have a lot. I'm gonna say no, let's try
- 1:07:28Speaker 2: to think of something else. So I don't think you'll
- 1:07:31Speaker 2: know that one.
- 1:07:34Speaker 3: Ooh you think so?
- 1:07:35Speaker 2: Huh I do maybe maybe maybe I'm gonna say bad words.
- 1:07:45Speaker 3: Oh that that did not.
- 1:07:47Speaker 2: I only have deep cuts in my brain right now,
- 1:07:49Speaker 2: which is really good.
- 1:07:50Speaker 3: Yeah, it's one that's not a deep cut because we
- 1:07:54Speaker 3: just did an episode on it a couple of weeks ago.
- 1:07:56Speaker 3: Was necessary rough.
- 1:08:00Speaker 2: Call? Uh teen wolf two?
- 1:08:04Speaker 3: Damn it. That is a fun one.
- 1:08:08Speaker 2: Yeah, for like the movie, game or the.
- 1:08:11Speaker 3: And just whenever they're talking on SmartLess and they just
- 1:08:14Speaker 3: kind of give them flag for it. Let's go with.
- 1:08:20Speaker 3: I believe it's called identity theft.
- 1:08:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I think you're right. I think that is what
- 1:08:24Speaker 2: it's called.
- 1:08:25Speaker 3: Yeah, no, identity.
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: You didn't do a couple with her?
- 1:08:29Speaker 3: God I can't remember though.
- 1:08:35Speaker 2: Poopy sticks. Uh, I'm gonna say extract.
- 1:08:44Speaker 3: Oh did you ever see that?
- 1:08:45Speaker 2: That was my people?
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: I was.
- 1:08:49Speaker 3: He I believe, I believe it's the Kevin Hart Dwayne
- 1:08:54Speaker 3: the Rock Johnson one Central Intelligence Agency where he plays
- 1:08:58Speaker 3: a total dicky she like used to uh he used
- 1:09:04Speaker 3: to be a bully of Kevin Hartz back in the day,
- 1:09:07Speaker 3: and then he like goes to confront him. I'm pretty
- 1:09:10Speaker 3: sure it's that.
- 1:09:11Speaker 2: Here right as well? Yes, Central Intelligence, yep, good call. Yeah,
- 1:09:20Speaker 2: uh oh uh that's him, right, Yeah, I'm not sure,
- 1:09:28Speaker 2: but I guess I should just try Anything's utopia. That's him, right, yeah?
- 1:09:34Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, it absolutely is him. I was trying
- 1:09:37Speaker 3: to even think of kids ones and that would have
- 1:09:41Speaker 3: been the one.
- 1:09:42Speaker 2: They're coming up with another one. Did you see that?
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: That's fun?
- 1:09:47Speaker 3: And that was a long time.
- 1:09:48Speaker 2: I know, I was kind of surprised they were doing
- 1:09:50Speaker 2: it now, but right.
- 1:09:54Speaker 3: I am running out and that makes me feel better.
- 1:09:59Speaker 3: I might just the other one that he did that
- 1:10:01Speaker 3: Melissa McCarthy is in. It was Melissa McCarthy and Octavia
- 1:10:06Speaker 3: Spencer and it was a not very good movie called
- 1:10:09Speaker 3: thunder Force. Oh yeah, plays a guy with like crab
- 1:10:15Speaker 3: hands and it's.
- 1:10:16Speaker 2: Okay, so it sounds weird, okay, isn't he also? Oh no,
- 1:10:23Speaker 2: oh oh, did just leave my brain? Where did it go?
- 1:10:25Speaker 2: Come back. I need you, boy. I'm not gonna remember
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: what it is. I think you've won, so maybe just
- 1:10:33Speaker 2: help me on this one. He was just in that movie.
- 1:10:38Speaker 2: It's a Netflix movie and he's the bad guy and
- 1:10:40Speaker 2: it just came out. It's the Airport one with yeah,
- 1:10:44Speaker 2: what's his name?
- 1:10:45Speaker 3: What was it called like Baggage Claim or something or.
- 1:10:48Speaker 2: Maybe I don't remember what the title is at all.
- 1:10:51Speaker 3: Oh my god, Yeah, with Terry Anderson.
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: It was a pretty it was a pretty okay movie too, Like.
- 1:10:57Speaker 3: Yeah, I can't remember what it was. Yeah, that's funny.
- 1:11:03Speaker 3: I couldn't think of that at.

- 1:11:29Speaker 3: like herpies on his mouth and it was the movie
- 1:11:33Speaker 3: Smoking Aces. Did you ever see that movie Smoking Ace? Dude?
