- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30So some food for thought today. When you can't control what's
- 0:33happening around you or others, challenge yourself to control
- 0:37the way you respond to it. And this is how you develop a
- 0:41superpower because when you can control how you respond, when
- 0:45you can control your emotions, when you can control what you're
- 0:48going to get hooked by, all of a sudden you have entered a new
- 0:52level of getting on your superhero.
- 0:56And I can't begin to express in the world of emotions how tricky
- 1:02this is. And it's a test.
- 1:04This is an absolute test of your resilience.
- 1:07It's a test of how you want to work on yourself.
- 1:10It's a test of your awareness. So many parts have come into
- 1:15this. Being aware of what exactly is
- 1:17going on in order to, you know, understand you have to stop and
- 1:21pause is a very, very big deal. If you can't figure out where
- 1:26your hooked, you'll never be able to do this.
- 1:30You'll never be able to say I can control my response here.
- 1:33And controlling your response is all we really have, right?
- 1:35We can control our belief systems, we can control what
- 1:38we're thinking, we can control how what comes out of our mouth.
- 1:42We can control our physical response to it.
- 1:46We can't control the outside world.
- 1:47I can't control the weather. I can't make the chickens go in
- 1:50the coop when I want them to. I can't control how cold it is
- 1:53this morning. I can't control what's going to
- 1:56come after them. I can't control all the
- 1:58creatures that are going to try to kill them.
- 2:00I I can't control if people are going to be on time for their
- 2:03appointments. I can't control the traffic.
- 2:05I could go on and on with a list of all the things I cannot
- 2:08control. I mean, I have all these
- 2:11chickens in this coop. I cannot control who's going to
- 2:13lay an egg and who's not. I just can't.
- 2:15Some of them are complete freeloaders right now, not
- 2:18laying eggs, and others are laying eggs.
- 2:20All I can say is it's cold. Whoever's going to lay is going
- 2:23to lay, and who's not is not. And one would think with, you
- 2:27know, 64 chickens, let's see, 62 of them being female, I should
- 2:33be having quite a bit of eggs every day.
- 2:35Well, today I only got 20. So guess what?
- 2:37That's OK. That's what the way it works, I
- 2:40can't control that now. I don't even need 20 eggs.
- 2:43Obviously I like to give them away, but it's using it as a
- 2:45point. I have to just, OK, that's where
- 2:49we are now. Somebody said when I was talking
- 2:53to them about this, well, I have to accept these things, then
- 2:57that means I can't do something about it.
- 2:59And I said, no, I never said you can't do something about it.
- 3:01What I said is you can't. You have to control your
- 3:04response. Now you can change how you
- 3:06respond. You can do something that's
- 3:07going to make you more empowered.
- 3:08You can do something that's going to make you less
- 3:10empowered. You have options to how of how
- 3:13to respond in order to make it different or better, but you do
- 3:16not have to let it control your responses where you flip out or
- 3:21you lose your mind or you sit there and start to think
- 3:25horrible thoughts for no reason. You get to choose how you want
- 3:30this to go internally for you and you can sit there and say, I
- 3:34don't care. I mean, we've all seen that
- 3:36person where we go, man, this person just doesn't care.
- 3:40They just shut it right down. They truly do not care.
- 3:43I wish I could be like that sometimes and it is an art.
- 3:47It is an art to actually push yourself and say, I don't care.
- 3:51But guess what? Sometimes it's really a lot
- 3:54better when you say I don't care or I care, but I can't do
- 3:57anything about that. So I have to let it go.
- 4:00That's very much how I felt about dealing with my mother
- 4:03when she was sick. I care deeply, but I could, I
- 4:05couldn't force her to do the things she wasn't going to do.
- 4:08I had to just focus on it. So remember the statement that I
- 4:12I read, and I'm going to read it again to you because I think
- 4:15it's so important to recognize it.
- 4:17When you can't control what's happening, challenge yourself to
- 4:21control the way you respond to it because that's how you become
- 4:24the superhero. When I wrote that down, I was
- 4:26like, yes, this is so perfect. You have to focus on it.
- 4:30Do I want to be the superhero? And if I'm responding the right
- 4:33way, am I responding as the superhero?
- 4:35Am I responding as the villain? Because sometimes in my head, I
- 4:38like thinking of it that way because it gives me a little bit
- 4:40more power to kind of hone in myself.
- 4:43I really do prefer to think of myself as a superhero as opposed
- 4:46to the the villain doing the bad things.
- 4:49So you cultivate that by checking in, by believing it, by
- 4:53doing it. And I mean, that is that is the
- 4:56essence of all. So I hope that you can hear
- 4:59that. I hope you can go back and look
- 5:01at that and find something for yourself in there because that's
- 5:04where this power lies. And you've got to find that
- 5:06superhero inside of you that says, I get to choose my
- 5:09response. I get to choose that piece no
- 5:12matter what. Nobody can control that piece
- 5:14for me. So, my friends, I hope you have
- 5:17a blessed superhero day and I will see you all tomorrow.
- 5:21Bye.
