- 0:24Here's Pastor Ed to take us into our study.
- 0:28Amen. If you have your Bibles, open
- 0:30them. The first Corinthians chapter
- 0:3215. If you need help, I'm sure a
- 0:34neighbor can help you. You can look it up on your
- 0:37phone. If you have a Bible app, First
- 0:39Corinthians chapter 15. I've entitled this Bible study.
- 0:43It matters. And what I mean by that is the
- 0:46resurrection matters. The power of the resurrected
- 0:50Christ matters in your life. It is the hinge, you can say, of
- 0:55all of our lives, how we respond to the life, the death and the
- 1:00resurrection of Jesus. And let me just say at the
- 1:02outset, it is a privilege for me to share with you that Jesus is
- 1:07the only way to a right relationship with God.
- 1:11Jesus alone can change your life.
- 1:13Jesus alone can forgive you of your sin.
- 1:17Jesus, the Savior of the world is alive.
- 1:21We have testimony in the Bible where they went to the tomb and
- 1:24the tomb was empty. I have the privilege as well as
- 1:28taking people on tours to Israel and we will go all throughout
- 1:32the land of Israel in two almost two weeks full of tours and our
- 1:36final stop. The way it all ends is we come
- 1:39to the place where strong evidence leans toward.
- 1:44This was the tomb where Jesus would lay.
- 1:46Now we don't know exactly, but I do know this.
- 1:49Any tomb that claims to have Jesus in it, whether wherever we
- 1:53are, wherever we visit in Israel, I'll tell you this right
- 1:57now. I know this for sure.
- 1:58The tomb is empty. Jesus Christ rose again from the
- 2:02dead. The evidence in the Scripture is
- 2:04very clear that Jesus lived, died, and rose again.
- 2:08I want you to notice with me in verse 1 of chapter 15, Paul the
- 2:13apostle, a man of God, a man like you and me that responded
- 2:18to the gospel. His life was forever changed.
- 2:20He's writing to a group of people just like you and me in
- 2:24the city of Corinth. That's why he's called.
- 2:26That's why the book you're reading is called First
- 2:29Corinthians. It's the first letter recorded
- 2:31for us to this group known known as believers in the city of
- 2:36Corinth. First one.
- 2:37Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached
- 2:42to you, which also you received, and in which you stand, by which
- 2:47also you are saved, if you hold fast the word that I preached to
- 2:52you, unless you believed in vain.
- 2:57Paul is writing to a group of people he is familiar with,
- 3:01reminding them of the gospel. I want you to mark that word
- 3:04gospel. It means good news.
- 3:07The word does, he says, I want you guys to remember when I
- 3:10preached, came to your town and I preached to you the good news,
- 3:14the gospel. And notice it says they received
- 3:17it in verse 1. And that's what you do with the
- 3:19gospel. You receive it.
- 3:22You you take in its truths. And they responded to it.
- 3:26None they're receiving wasn't just listening, it was
- 3:29responding. And notice now as he's writing
- 3:32this letter, he says that they're standing in it.
- 3:34They're standing in the gospel. And verse 2, the gospel came to
- 3:38your town. I want you to think about this
- 3:40for a second. The city of Corinth is known
- 3:42throughout history as a very a very big city filled with
- 3:47debauchery and sin. A lot of sexual sin, a lot of
- 3:50idolatry, a lot of false worship.
- 3:53There they woke up 1 morning doing their own thing like they
- 3:56did every other day. But that day was different
- 3:59because Paul the apostle showed up in town and he showed up with
- 4:03a message, a message that he preached.
- 4:06He ended up staying there 18 months, a year and a half.
- 4:09He preached the message, it was received and responded to and
- 4:13men and women were saved. The whole city changed,
- 4:18completely changed. Why?
- 4:19Because of the gospel. And so you say, pastor, what is
- 4:24the gospel then? If it's such a powerful message,
- 4:27what is it? If you're asking that question,
- 4:29I'm glad you did notice with me verse 3, the definition of the
- 4:33gospel. He says I delivered to you first
- 4:36of all, that which I also received, that Christ died for
- 4:40our sins according to the Scriptures.
- 4:43We just read that in Psalm 22. According to the Scriptures,
- 4:47according to the predictions and the prophecy, Psalm 22 is just
- 4:50one of them. Christ died, according to the
- 4:53Scriptures, for our sins. He was buried, and he rose again
- 4:58the third day. According to the Scriptures.
- 5:02That's the gospel. The gospel is that God in human
- 5:05flesh, Jesus Christ, came and dwelt among us, and the reward
- 5:11for all of his good deeds and his love and his care and the
- 5:14miracles and the healings and his teachings.
- 5:17He was rewarded, as we learned on Friday, with a torturous
- 5:22beating known as a Roman scourging, and from the Roman
- 5:27scourging that he took the full weight of it all.
- 5:30They placed him on a Roman cross, a tool of torturous death
- 5:36and murder that the Persians invented, but the Romans
- 5:39perfected it. Jesus, he died according to the
- 5:43Scriptures. Why?
- 5:45For our sins. And if you put together verse
- 5:48three with verse 2, that Jesus, his death, his burial, and his
- 5:54resurrection saved us from our sins.
- 5:59And that is the good news today. The good news is that your sins
- 6:02can be forgiven, that Jesus lived and he died and he was
- 6:06buried and he rose again from the dead.
- 6:09But here's the rub. There's a few words in here that
- 6:12challenge you. They might even seem offensive
- 6:15to you. They might hurt you or harm you
- 6:17or turn you away from the rest of our time.
- 6:20Please don't turn on give me, give me the time, and then you
- 6:23can decide. But when we hear words like
- 6:26saved, you're like, I don't need to be safe from anything.
- 6:29What are you talking about? I'm doing just fine.
- 6:32I don't need to be saved. And then and then we talk about
- 6:34sin, you know, like sin. I I don't know what you're
- 6:37talking about, preacher, but that's not a problem for me.
- 6:43Well, it's actually a big problem for you and for me.
- 6:48When we talk about sin, as unpopular as it may be, I want
- 6:53you to consider it's the one thing that we all share.
- 6:57Of all the backgrounds in this room, all the skin colors, all
- 7:02the languages, all the upbringings, male, female,
- 7:06child, adult, all of the differences in this room, and
- 7:11there are many in the diversity. It's beautiful.
- 7:13God made it that way. But in all the differences,
- 7:17there is one thing for sure every single one of us share,
- 7:22and that is we have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of
- 7:26God. There isn't an innocent one
- 7:28among us, Not one. Now I do want to acknowledge
- 7:32that it is possible that in your life you've sinned less than me.
- 7:36And I would say great, I'm, I'm great.
- 7:38Like you have saved yourself a lot of pain so that you maybe
- 7:42have been more moral than me before I got saved.
- 7:44Or you may have a less of a life of sin than I did.
- 7:47And that's great. There are some differences, but
- 7:49what the same, what is the same is that we have all sinned,
- 7:53which poses a significant problem.
- 7:57If we have all sinned, then what do we do with that?
- 8:03How do we respond? Sin is a Bible word describing
- 8:10an unrighteous, unholy act toward a righteous God.
- 8:15We may use the word mistake. You know, if I say something to
- 8:18you and I hurt your feelings or I do I miss, I made a mistake.
- 8:22I need to apologize. I've hurt you.
- 8:24I've done something bad to you. I've made a mistake.
- 8:27But sin is much greater than just a simple mistake, even hurt
- 8:30feelings. When we sin, we've separated
- 8:32ourselves from God. We weren't made to live in sin.
- 8:36We were made to live in relationship with God our
- 8:39creator. And so it's important that we
- 8:42recognize that not only both do we have sin, but we also need to
- 8:46be saved from sin. And I believe this is
- 8:51acknowledged throughout the world because there's a lot of
- 8:54religions out there Jesus declares to be the way, the
- 8:57truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father
- 8:59except through Him. John 14-6.
- 9:01But there's a lot of religions and a lot of isms out there that
- 9:05have replaced the truth of Jesus Christ.
- 9:09I think of Buddhism and Confucianism and every other ISM
- 9:12you can think of. I think of the world religions
- 9:15that exist today. We're literally in a minefield
- 9:18of false teachings and feel good theologies and even substitute
- 9:22saviors. And when you look at religions,
- 9:25especially the three big world religions, when you think of the
- 9:28religions that have caught and there's more than three big
- 9:31ones, but when you think of those that have caught the
- 9:34response of the world, they all share some common threads, but
- 9:39they too also have one common thread exclusively.
- 9:42And that is all of their founders are dead still, even as
- 9:51I speak. Only with Christianity is it
- 9:56demonstrated that Jesus is not dead.
- 9:59The tomb is empty and he fulfilled everything he
- 10:04predicted. The resurrection is proof you
- 10:08think of the impact that Jesus has made on history.
- 10:13Every culture from the beginning of time has been impacted by
- 10:18either the anticipation of the coming of Messiah or the fact
- 10:23that he did come. And we look back on it.
- 10:26We think of Jesus fulfilling every messianic prophecy to date
- 10:30in the Old Testament, and we look today at his resurrection
- 10:36over and over and over again. Jesus claimed that he would rise
- 10:39again before he ever died. You know, he would be talking to
- 10:43those that were closest to him, and he would tell them on more
- 10:46than one occasion. They're going to kill me.
- 10:50I'm going to die. But in the same breath he would
- 10:53say I'm going to die, but I will rise again.
- 10:57Well, you know how it is. When you receive bad news, you
- 10:59get stuck. I hear bad news and I don't
- 11:02really hear anything else because I'm still processing the
- 11:05bad news that you shared. And I see that in the life of
- 11:08the disciples. They heard what he said, but
- 11:11they stopped at the bad news. We know that to be true because
- 11:14after Jesus died and buried, they all went back to life and
- 11:17they thought they lost everything.
- 11:18I wasted my life. I'm going to go back fishing.
- 11:20I'm going to go back and live my own life.
- 11:22Not remembering Jesus said Jesus said that he would rise again.
- 11:29It's different today is not only do you have false religions and
- 11:32isms, but there's just a lot of criticism toward the Bible
- 11:35today. You might be one of them.
- 11:37You're a skeptic. You're a critic.
- 11:39You just, yeah, I don't believe that stuff.
- 11:41That might be good for you. It's not good for me.
- 11:43I'm not that bad. I don't need God.
- 11:44And on and on the list goes. You may even speak to someone
- 11:49that says, oh, you don't believe the Bible, do you?
- 11:51To which you say, of course I do.
- 11:53There's so much evidence that this book is valid and
- 11:56represents the true words of God spoken through the prophets
- 11:59thousands of years ago. Yes, I believe in it.
- 12:01Well, well, you know, you, you, you don't believe, you don't
- 12:04believe that story about Jonah, do you?
- 12:07Well, I actually do believe. Well, you know, they've proven
- 12:10that to be wrong. I see it on Google and AI now
- 12:12they tell me it is not true. It's not possible.
- 12:15Well, of course it's not possible in the human realm.
- 12:18It was a miracle. Miracles supersede what is
- 12:22possible. God is able to do the the
- 12:25impossible because with God all things are possible.
- 12:29But not only that. Will you go to Snopes and to
- 12:32Google? And you're trying to, you're
- 12:34trying to use human wisdom to debunk the Bible.
- 12:38I've got something even greater that you have to come to terms
- 12:41with, and that is I believe in the true story of Jonah because
- 12:47Jesus believed in the true story of Jonah and he taught it as
- 12:51such. He shared, and I'm paraphrasing
- 12:55here, that as Jonah was in three days and three nights in the
- 12:59belly of the fish, so will the Son of Man be in the heart of
- 13:03the earth basically saying that Jesus would die.
- 13:06It's a prophecy, Jonah. And it's amazing that the world
- 13:10would want to undermine Jonah because it's a prediction and
- 13:12prophecy of the life, death and burial and the resurrection of
- 13:20Jesus Christ. And Jesus believed it and taught
- 13:23it as such and used it as a prediction of his own
- 13:27resurrection. You see, it's important in times
- 13:31like this and I'm so grateful you would hear me out.
- 13:35It's important in times like this for you to reflect on the
- 13:38truth because it blows my mind that so many in this world can
- 13:43have all the right facts but come to the wrong conclusion.
- 13:47Like you could even say today that you believe in the Bible
- 13:50and you believe in but but I don't want to follow him.
- 13:52I don't want God in my life. That's the wrong conclusion.
- 13:56Jesus did live and die, and he rose again over the years.
- 14:03Even though there's so overwhelming evidence of Jesus
- 14:06rising from the dead, it still is dismissed.
- 14:11I want you to notice in verse 5 now Paul anticipates this.
- 14:15In the 1st century, Jesus has risen from the dead.
- 14:18We've established that it's the hinge of all humanity.
- 14:21It was predicted in the Old Testament, fulfilled by Jesus.
- 14:24Now notice what he says in verse 5 and that he was seen after the
- 14:29resurrection. Jesus was seen by Cephas.
- 14:32Now that is another name for Peter, one of his key followers.
- 14:36Peter then by the 12, which is a general reference to his closest
- 14:41followers, says he was seen eyewitness, a proof of the
- 14:48resurrection. One of many is the eyewitness
- 14:51account of Peter and the eyewitness account of the 12 to
- 14:56which even some will say, well, you know, they were his friends
- 14:58and it was all just a hoax, so you would expect them to be
- 15:01witnesses as well. No, no, no, no, no, that that's
- 15:04not the case. However, you need to read on.
- 15:07Notice after that he was seen by over 500 brethren at once, of
- 15:15whom the greater part remained of the present.
- 15:17But some have fallen asleep. So as he's writing, he says,
- 15:21look, it's not just Peter and it's not just the 12.
- 15:24There was a time and it's just this is recorded.
- 15:27I'm sure there were more, but there was a time when over 500
- 15:31people saw the resurrected Christ at the same time in the
- 15:35same place. That's significant.
- 15:38That is significant evidence. Eyewitness evidence is always
- 15:42the strongest and multiple people giving the same
- 15:46testimony, very strong evidence. I want you to consider it for a
- 15:51moment. 500 people. So the room here is filled with
- 15:54about 1300 people right now. So almost three times that
- 15:57amount. But let's just say we go ahead
- 15:59right down the. All right, we split the room
- 16:00down the middle and we asked for your eyewitness testimony of me
- 16:04talking today. And so we're going around the
- 16:07room and we're going to hear about the same thing throughout
- 16:09the room. There will be a few variables
- 16:11because you guys are getting an angle that you guys are getting
- 16:14that you're not getting, you're getting a different angle.
- 16:17You were looking down at your Bible at that time.
- 16:19You were looking up at the lights.
- 16:20You were wondering, what am I doing?
- 16:22And I'm just kidding, just kidding.
- 16:24But we all have different, we all have different perspectives.
- 16:27And so, you know, he's wearing a blue suit, He's got a black
- 16:29Bible and he's got black shoes. And, and you know, I see
- 16:32stripes. I don't see stripes.
- 16:34And, and you would hear all kinds of testament, but you'd
- 16:36hear the same thing over and over again.
- 16:38Might be a little variation only because you see things, you
- 16:41won't hear massive contradictions.
- 16:45I mean, if you do, then they really didn't see.
- 16:47So for example, you know, blue suit, blue suit, blue suit, blue
- 16:50suit, blue suit, red suit. I'd be very concerned for you.
- 16:54I would give you a doctor's appointment or a card because
- 16:59that's way out there. We wouldn't hear that.
- 17:02Blue Boo, Boo red, we wouldn't hear that.
- 17:04So here we have 500 witnesses of the resurrection. 500 That's a
- 17:09lot of people. 500 I did the math.
- 17:12I was thinking about it, if we gave 500 people the opportunity
- 17:16to give their testimony for 15 minutes, that's it.
- 17:19Like on our water baptisms, when we have them, we lying people on
- 17:22the wall up on this side and we lying people on the wall up.
- 17:25So we have 250 people that way, 250 people that way.
- 17:29And they come up to the stairs and they walk up and they stand
- 17:32here for 15 minutes. I saw him.
- 17:34He talked to me. You wouldn't believe his eyes.
- 17:37His robe was flowing. People are and over and OK,
- 17:40you're 15 minutes over. Go sit down.
- 17:41You come up 15 minutes, you won't believe it.
- 17:43I wasn't even expecting it. When I turn around, he was right
- 17:47there another 15 minutes, 15 minutes, over and over.
- 17:49If we gave 500 people 15 minutes, it would take 15 1/2
- 17:55eight hour days with no break. So I go into where?
- 17:588 hours from morning to night for 15 1/2 days.
- 18:02Testimony after testimony after testimony after testimony.
- 18:06I saw him, I was there. He spoke to me, I was there.
- 18:12Convincing evidence they go well, not so much pastor, not so
- 18:16much. I mean, it's written in the
- 18:17Bible and not not not really convincing to me.
- 18:20But you have to put yourself in the shoes first of those that
- 18:23receive the letter the Corinthians.
- 18:26So as they're reading this, they're like, OK, they're being
- 18:28affirmed on the resurrection. Their faith is being affirmed.
- 18:31Paul is calling them back to a deeper, especially later on.
- 18:35There were people that were saying the resurrection didn't
- 18:37have like he's saying no, no, no, this is the truth.
- 18:39And then he writes, and you may have never seen this before,
- 18:42noticed it before, but the first time I saw it, I highlighted it
- 18:45because it was shocking to me. He says not only are there 500
- 18:49witnesses, but he says to whom the greater part remain to the
- 18:54present. Do you know what he means?
- 18:56He says this, there are 500 witnesses and most of them are
- 19:00still alive right now. If you doubt it, go ask him.
- 19:04They're still alive. We're not making this up.
- 19:07I mean, you can accuse a few people of a hoax, but these are
- 19:10500 independent people in a place, one place at one time,
- 19:13and most of them are still alive as I'm writing this.
- 19:18If you're still a skeptic, go ask them.
- 19:22Talk to them. Find a few of them.
- 19:24Jesus rose from the dead. He doesn't stop there.
- 19:28Notice verse 7 after that he was seen by James, which was his
- 19:32half brother, Jesus, half brother then by all the
- 19:35apostles. And then I love verse 8 because
- 19:38verse 8 brings this whole story, true story into the 21st
- 19:43century. I love it.
- 19:44So he says. Then last of all he was seen by
- 19:48me also as one born out of due time, the death and at the time
- 19:56of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
- 19:58Paul hated him, wanted nothing to do with Jesus.
- 20:03He took it upon himself later on to be a one man show to destroy
- 20:08Christians and Christianity. That was his life and his
- 20:12testimony. So to see the risen Christ, the
- 20:16evidence would point that it wasn't at the time of the 500.
- 20:20It was later born out of due time.
- 20:23And so you Bible students, you probably know exactly where I'm
- 20:26going. But for those of you that don't
- 20:27know the Bible, there was a time later on in Paul's life where he
- 20:32was on the on a road headed with a group of people to Damascus to
- 20:37destroy Christianity. That's his view of Jesus.
- 20:41He was coming against these Christians.
- 20:44He's on the road to Damascus and a bright light stops him, and he
- 20:49hears a voice from heaven that happened to be the voice of
- 20:53Jesus Christ. And it was in that moment that
- 20:56Paul was born again. And in some spiritual,
- 21:00miraculous, mysterious way, he has a vision of Jesus, receives
- 21:06the gospel from him, and is born again.
- 21:09He has seen the risen Lord not only on the road to Damascus,
- 21:15but every single day of his life, which would lead us to
- 21:20hear. It would take over a month if I
- 21:23gave every believer in the room here 15 minutes to share your
- 21:26testimony of the risen Lord in your life.
- 21:30Where you met Him, who brought the gospel to you, what life was
- 21:34changed, who you used to be, who you are now, What habit you
- 21:38left, how you left alcohol, how you are no longer homeless, how
- 21:42you found yourself going back to school.
- 21:44Why? Only because the risen Lord
- 21:47entered into your life and you heard His voice through a man,
- 21:51you heard his voice through the Bible, you heard His voice on
- 21:55some evangelist on television or the radio.
- 21:58You heard his voice and you can only hear voices of those who
- 22:02are alive. You have a testimony of the
- 22:07risen Lord. And that's what Paul says to us
- 22:10here. Jesus Christ is alive and he is
- 22:13still speaking even in the room right now, drawing people at the
- 22:18spiritual level, drawing some of you right now to himself.
- 22:25But you have to get over the sin barrier, don't you?
- 22:27Which is not popular now. You, you, you, you're in a
- 22:32church. You got preacher up here.
- 22:33Been talking about the Bible for a while now.
- 22:35You don't need me, although it wouldn't be.
- 22:37You probably wouldn't have any problem with it, but you don't
- 22:39need me to convince you that sin exists.
- 22:42Spoke about it already a little bit, but like, you don't need me
- 22:46to put up on the screen. I picked 100 different sins and
- 22:49I'm like, OK, everybody just get out a pencil and mark down.
- 22:52Find the five popular sins on that screen.
- 22:54They're in your life right now. You go to Ken.
- 22:56Can I do more? Can I do more?
- 22:58Like is it more than 5/10/15? You don't need that.
- 23:01Although I could have done that. I could have put it right up
- 23:03there. You could have taken a picture
- 23:04of it. We could have set up on the
- 23:06website, but you don't need that because you already understand
- 23:10sin. Even those of you today who
- 23:14would come strongly against me, go, I don't believe in sin.
- 23:17I don't think I'm a Sinner. I don't have sin.
- 23:21I want to challenge that for a second.
- 23:23You know sin very well. You know sin very well.
- 23:28Let me give you a few of the top ten.
- 23:30And we know those are the 10 commandments, right?
- 23:32Let's just talk about a few of them.
- 23:34Don't lie, don't steal, don't covet, don't commit adultery.
- 23:41There's just a few, and we know that you believe in sin.
- 23:48When one of those things is done to you, when somebody steals
- 23:54from you or lies to you, your response is that's wrong.
- 23:59You shouldn't do that. You're responding to someone's
- 24:02action towards you that you know intrinsically, you know inside.
- 24:07Why? Because you've been created in
- 24:09the image of God. Sin is so prevalent in our world
- 24:12today, such anger, such violence, such vitriol, that
- 24:20when we're what? When somebody demonstrates the
- 24:24love of God, it actually makes the news.
- 24:28I'll give you an example of some horrific crime takes place and
- 24:33they're finishing with the sentencing or at the courtroom.
- 24:35And they have the family that has been hurt has a press
- 24:39conference and they invite all of the news media there.
- 24:43And they have the podium with the microphones and they're
- 24:47asked to speak and they share the thoughts about their loved
- 24:51one or the situation. And they are hurting and crying.
- 24:57And it's a very, very difficult scene.
- 24:59And then they end the press conference with this, but I
- 25:02forgive them in the name of Jesus.
- 25:05I forgive them because of all that God has done in my life.
- 25:09I forgive them for what they've done to my family.
- 25:13And it hits you because you step into their story while you're
- 25:17watching the news and you're like, I don't know if I could do
- 25:23that or some of you even greater is like, I would never do that.
- 25:29I want vengeance and I want revenge.
- 25:33I could never. And why would those responses
- 25:37exist? Because of sin.
- 25:41This sense of revenge and vengeance is deeply embedded
- 25:45inside of us. And it is only through the
- 25:48forgiveness. See when, how can a family do
- 25:51that? I'll tell you, it's only when
- 25:55you acknowledge and experience the forgiveness of God in your
- 25:58own life do you begin to understand how important it is
- 26:02to forgive others. It's not just a Bible teaching
- 26:06and a theological truth. It is a relational aspect and
- 26:10outflow of your relationship with Jesus because you start to
- 26:13think, well, we'll look what Jesus has done in my life.
- 26:16And you stand at a podium or in an office or in a counselor's
- 26:21room, and you say, I forgive. And how do you forgive?
- 26:25But by the grace of God, oh, sin is real.
- 26:29Sin is real in your life. You know it and I know it.
- 26:34And I'm advocating, I'm asking you, don't run away from it.
- 26:37Don't run to the bottle. Try to drown out the reality of
- 26:41sin. Don't try to ignore it and
- 26:44pretend it's not there or put up some strong stand.
- 26:47I don't believe in it. I know you do.
- 26:50I know you do. You would never allow people to
- 26:54take advantage of you. You have to make a moral
- 26:57decision. That's a moral decision.
- 27:00The law didn't create that because laws always change.
- 27:03Men didn't create that because men always change.
- 27:07God is the author of morality, and you know something is right
- 27:11or wrong because of God. He put eternity in our hearts.
- 27:17Don't run away from relationship to relationship.
- 27:22Don't find yourself in a place running a pornography to try to
- 27:25drown out all of the weight of the reality of sin.
- 27:30Instead, confess your sins to God.
- 27:32Why? Because on the cross, Jesus died
- 27:35for all the bad things you've ever done, all of the wrong
- 27:39places you've ever gone, all of the wrong thoughts you've ever
- 27:43had, all of the wrong words you've ever said.
- 27:47On the cross, Jesus became sin for us in order that we might
- 27:51become the righteousness of God in Him.
- 27:55And the only way to deal with your conscience is to and to
- 27:59have your sense cleanses, to come clean with Jesus.
- 28:03No question remains on this Easter Sunday is what's
- 28:06preventing you from receiving Jesus today.
- 28:09What is it exactly holding you back or why have you been gone
- 28:15so long? What is so captivating in this
- 28:20world, so alluring, that's worth your separation from Jesus?
- 28:28I mean, I know in a room this size, this many people, there
- 28:31are many of you that haven't. You really haven't had a walk
- 28:34with Jesus in a long, long time. I'm so glad you're here.
- 28:39I hope it's the beginning of coming back, but it's time.
- 28:42You've got to choose. I can't do it for you.
- 28:46Some of you been invited by friends and family because they
- 28:49love you, because they care about you, because they want to
- 28:54see your life changed on the hinge of the gospel.
- 28:59And what is the gospel? Christ died for our sins
- 29:02according to the scriptures. He was buried and he rose again,
- 29:06and he's alive today, inviting you into relationship.
- 29:14If you don't have this certainty that Christ is living in you and
- 29:19you don't know with confidence that you will go to heaven when
- 29:22you die, that can all change right here, right now.
- 29:28It may even be time for some to reaffirm their faith just to
- 29:31know. God, you have me.
- 29:34I've been feeling this, feelings of vengeance and revenge or
- 29:38things propping back up into my life, but that's not how I want
- 29:41to live. As my pastor would often teach
- 29:44us, only one life will soon be passed and only what's done for
- 29:47Christ will last. So enough of having all the
- 29:51right facts but coming to the wrong conclusion.
- 29:55Because we have all sinned, the gospel is for all people, and
- 30:01because we have all sinned, forgiveness is needed for all,
- 30:06and God is ready to receive you as you come to Him.
- 30:10So Father, I thank you for the truth of the gospel that has
- 30:13changed so many of our lives. It's simple.
- 30:18It might even be offensive to some, but God, you love them and
- 30:21care for them and we pray for them.
- 30:23Right now I pray for you. We've been praying for you all
- 30:28week. And as the church is praying
- 30:30now, maybe there's someone here that would say I need Jesus.
- 30:35I have a big hole in my heart. I've tried to fill it with
- 30:38things the culture says will fill me, but it hasn't worked.
- 30:44I desire this forgiveness that you speak of.
- 30:46I want my guilt taken away. Or the prodigal.
- 30:51And of course, only Christians understand that.
- 30:53That prodigal, you've wandered away, been away for a long time.
- 30:57And I don't mean church, I mean God.
- 31:01You've been away. You've been involved in things
- 31:04you shouldn't have been involved in.
- 31:06You're experiencing right now that the wages of sin is death.
- 31:09Your marriage is dying, relationships are dying,
- 31:12friendships are dying. God is calling you home.
- 31:16He's calling you home. It's almost like you, you
- 31:19started to come back and like the Father and the story Jesus
- 31:22get, He's running toward you right now.
- 31:24And if for the first time you need to receive Jesus or you
- 31:31want to recommit your life to the Lord, I want to ask you
- 31:33right where you are. Would you just stand to your
- 31:35feet? I want to pray for you all over
- 31:37the room downstairs in the overflow.
- 31:39I know it's full. I'm calling you as well.
- 31:42If you're here today and you say, Ed, I need to get my life
- 31:45right with God. I want to follow him.
- 31:47I want to return. Just stand to your feet.
- 31:49God bless you guys in the back over here on the side in the
- 31:54back here. This is the work of the Holy
- 31:55Spirit in your life and I know there are more, so we'll wait
- 31:59for you. You're responding to the
- 32:02conscience. God bless you guys and you God
- 32:05has been moving on the inside. He's used of the words in the
- 32:08Bible, but he's been moving on the inside of your life.
- 32:11Bless you guys and this standing.
- 32:15It's not like it saves you. It's that's not why it's like a
- 32:17time stamp. It's a time stamp in your life
- 32:22like a core memory. And as people are moving around
- 32:25the building right now, don't that they're coming alongside of
- 32:27you as much as we can so that you know that we want to follow
- 32:30up with you. We want to stay connected to
- 32:32you. In a church this size, we don't
- 32:34want you falling through the cracks.
- 32:35So we have a system in place. So somebody comes up, they
- 32:38they're doing it on purpose. Who else would say that's me?
- 32:42Today is the day, God bless you so good, so good.
- 32:47This is the day and the moment and the time.
- 32:52This is the day that the Lord is made.
- 32:54Let us be glad and rejoice in it for the work of God in your
- 32:58life. And so there's two ways we can
- 33:02handle this today. I think of you in the jail cell
- 33:05right now, physically think of you in the hospital room, maybe
- 33:13driving around the city right now.
- 33:16God is calling you to Himself to respond to the invitation to
- 33:21receive a fresh forgiveness and anointing of your Holy Spirit.
- 33:25Thank you, Charlotte, and those of you that are praying to
- 33:29receive the Lord. You can use my words, you can
- 33:32use your own. Just be honest with God.
- 33:35He knows, and you could say something like this.
- 33:38Lord Jesus, I know that I'm a Sinner, but I know that You're
- 33:43the Savior who died on the cross for my sins and I know You're
- 33:47the Savior that rose again from the dead.
- 33:52I turn from my sin now and I choose to follow you from this
- 33:57moment forward. Thank you for hearing my prayer
- 34:03and answering it. I commit my life to following
- 34:08you from this day forward. In Jesus name I pray and
- 34:12everyone says Amen and Amen and Amen and Amen.
- 34:18So good. We pray that you've been
