- 6:19two men held up has killed her husband? For all witnesses have already identified
- 6:25you as one of the men. Missus Albert will know for sure. She

- 7:06says you didn't eat it. I didn't. You went to a movie,
- 7:10that's right, RIVELI wasn't it. I gave a long statement this morning,
- 7:14Lieutenant, I signed it. Somebody used that station wagon. When the
- 7:18arresting offices got to your house, the motor was still warm. I didn't
- 7:21use it, and I know my brother didn't. You think somebody could have
- 7:25gotten that car out of the garage without your brother herring? I don't know.
- 7:29Maybe they couldn't hold up a candy store, shoot two people, bring
- 7:31it right back to the garage. I don't know. I just know I
- 7:33didn't use it, and I know my brother didn't either. He didn't hold
- 7:36up a candy store or shooting anybody. My brother wouldn't do anything like that.
- 7:42What time did you get home? I have to keep telling you.
- 7:45You have to keep telling me. Around twelve o'clock or maybe a little after.
- 7:50That was a cop waiting for me. He'll remember what time better than
- 7:54I do. If you went to the movie, Yeah, what time did
- 7:57you get to the movie? After eight? Sometimes? What was playing?
- 8:01Two pictures? Mister lucky and lady takes a chance they're reissues, aren't thing.
- 8:05I saw them before a long time ago, the good ones. I
- 8:07wanted to see him again. Your brother runs a gas station, didn't he?
- 8:11Yeah? I like? Does he work? Years later, around seven?
- 8:15How does your brother doing this gas station? He does? All right,
- 8:18that's pretty good money. You don't work? No, No, I've
- 8:22been looking for a job. How old are you Joing twenty two? John's
- 8:26twenty eight? Yeah? When's your mother? And father died? Mom died
- 8:31when we were kids. Dad about five years ago, and John's been supporting
- 8:35him. I told you I was trying to get a job. It's not
- 8:37easy, and I want to talk to you again and stick around the home.
- 8:41Sure, la time. My brother didn't do it, lutime. Awful
- 8:45lot of evidence, Johim, but he didn't. We don't talk about it
- 8:46later. Bye, George, good bye Luton. All right, George Walker's
- 9:00coming out. Put a man on him. What's the matter, Ben?
- 9:05You look unhappy? I'm time once of coffee? You got it made normal,
- 9:07It'll only take a second. You won't have time hospital call. It's
- 9:11all right to see missus outdoor. Okay, Hey, here's the report on
- 9:13John Walcott on good months. The average is about three hundred clear pays eighty
- 9:18five dollars a month on the mortgage, and a lot of people doing a
- 9:20whole lot worse. Let's get walk up and take him down to the hospital
- 9:24with us. This is Olber. This is Olber. Yes, this is
- 9:46Luke Killan Guthrie in search of grib They would have talked to you. Why
- 9:50we won't take long. Why we want you to tell us if you've ever
- 9:54seen this man before? Move up, John right a hand, Missus Albert.
- 10:03I don't know. I'm not sure. Could he be one of the
- 10:09men who held up your store. I don't know. He looks I don't
- 10:16know. He isn't the one who shot us one of the gun No,
- 10:24he's not that one. You sure, yes, yes, I'm sure,
- 10:33well, missus Albert. Several people say they saw this man run away from
- 10:35your store. I don't remember. The other one too well, the one
- 10:41good by the door. Happened so quick? The man a they're doing you
- 10:48do or not remember? He was in the middle of the room. Oh,
- 10:54happened so quick. The other one. I didn't really know that.
- 11:00I think that's about a left. I will tell us my husband dead and
- 11:03we'll do everything we can, missus, Elmer, why can you do?
- 11:09He dead? That's all. I hope you didn't have anything to do with
- 11:15it, young man. I hope for your sake you didn't. Is it
- 11:22terrible things? Thanks man? Yeah, all right, send in mister Dill.
- 11:52First, well it's a coffee one. Come in, mister Dil.
- 12:01You met judgeing Graham? Yes, hellos I think hello mister Dial and have
- 12:05a seat. Thank you, mister Darren. We know definitely the man you
- 12:07identified this morning wasn't the one who actually did the killing. He was one
- 12:11of the men who ran aways. Next time, well, we're interested in
- 12:15the other man. Now what does he look like? That? It all
- 12:18happens fast. Like I told you, I was just walking by when I
- 12:20hit the shot, and on the screen the door of the store flow open.
- 12:24Two men came outter were running. The first one and one in front
- 12:26was the one I pointed out the lineup. He would differently notice the other
- 12:30man, No exactly, I got to kind of a look at him.
- 12:33But it all happens fast. I guess I was more interested than the other
- 12:35one, the one I recognized. You don't think you could identify the other
- 12:39one? Well, they separated, like I took that, they started running
- 12:41in different directions. I would after the one who crams in the station wagon,
- 12:45and I got his license summer. You went right after him, Well,
- 12:48I took a look in the store at first. I wanted to see
- 12:50what was going on. Then you went after him when I went after the
- 12:52one with the station wagon. Yes, I saw the two people lying on
- 12:56the floor blood, and I just went after him. How far did you
- 13:00chase him before he got in the station way? Oh? About your block
- 13:03again? How far away from him were you when he drove the station wagon
- 13:07off. Oh, I don't know. Just about fifty feet or where you
- 13:11were across from the station wagon on behind him? Yea, I was behind
- 13:16it. I was chasing, yes, I know. But he didn't cut
- 13:18across the street. The station wagon wasn't parked on the other side of the
- 13:22string. No, he just ran up the block station when I was parking
- 13:24the scene side of the street. Where did he turn around and look back
- 13:26at any But I don't know, I don't. I don't think so he
- 13:30just ran up at the car and drove off, or I could catch him.
- 13:31But you recognize IM? Sure? The man this morning the line up.
- 13:35You don't remember anything about the other? No, no, no,
- 13:41harright, mister Dill. Is that all? Yeah? That's all? And
- 13:43thank you? Oh sure, any mister Dill. Yeah, if this man
- 13:48was running away from you, you were behind him the whole time. You
- 13:52were about fifty feet away, behind the wagon when he drove off. I
- 13:58should think it would be a little to tell much about a man under those
- 14:01circumstances. And I got a good look, all an good look you said
- 14:05he didn't turn around. Well, no, I don't think that. I
- 14:07don't remember that. Well I got a look at when it ran out that
- 14:09door. He right passed me. Oh, I got a look at him.
- 14:13Then, all right, mister lay he was a guy. I got
- 14:16a pot look. Yes, you think you'll want me again, we'll call
- 14:20you if we do. What are you doing, Ben, trying to get
- 14:26a description of a man who used the gener Yeah, and while you're doing
- 14:31it, you practically made dyla liar the way he tells it, or I
- 14:33should say, the way you got it out of him. He couldn't have
- 14:37made a positive identification of a man who ran passed him through a doorway then
- 14:43showed him his back for the rest of the time. The line up this
- 14:48morning, Dylan, the others didn't say a word. I heard you read
- 14:50off the charges, but before they went in they knew whoever we had was
- 14:56the one who owned the station wag. O can't explain you the station wag.
- 15:00You got the license number. The car was still young. I know,
- 15:03I know. Then, what are you're trying to do. I'm trying
- 15:05to find out who killed a man in the candy still by making a liar
- 15:07out of the best witness your gut, who's making a liar? You're trying
- 15:11to put it in your mind if we find out what the other three witnesses
- 15:13have got to say, Well, you don't have to do jumping. I
- 15:18do course, well sending missus Evans. I'm I'm sorry. Then maybe you'd
- 15:28better put some moist sugar in your coffee. Okay, okay. Nobody remembers
- 16:04the second man. Everybody remembers the first. Everybody remembers the first. Everybody
- 16:11claims they recognized the guy as he came out the door running. Yeah,
- 16:14running, So maybe because they knew Wolcott owned the station wagon, they jumped
- 16:18to identify him. We've had long identifications before, Yes, but that's the
- 16:22station wagon. That's the car. One of the hold up men jumped into
- 16:26four people. Four people, three men and a woman claimed they recognized the
- 16:30guy, so suppose they really didn't get a good look at him. It
- 16:36was Wolcott station wagon. Neil got the license number. Two of the other
- 16:40witnesses saw bill changed the guy, saw the wagon pull away. One of
- 16:45them even identified the make of the wagon. Yeah, Sergeant Quin on the
- 16:51phone, Lieutenant Okay, Quin's taming George Walker. Yes, Quin, you
- 16:57ever see the man? What's the address of the pool? Uh? Who's
- 17:04the girl? All? Uh huh, But all right, stay with him.
- 17:11I'm going out for a while. Ah what he's got? And I
- 17:14don't know. I don't want to check it, Coin says George Walker met
- 17:17a man in a pool room, talk with him for a long time,
- 17:19and then when over to see a girl nam the hall. Maybe nothing,
- 17:23but I'm going to do some checking. Sure I know walk Cot play schnicker
- 17:41and you as hey, you know his brother? No, I didn't know
- 17:44I had one. I had. George met a man in here to day

- 18:07girl. He's a bad boy. Yeah, I kind of remember him.
- 18:18Were you gave him a shine, tall thin dark man brown jacket like pants?
- 18:22Yeah yeah, I think so with a younger fellow, brown hair,
- 18:25Yeah yeah, yeah, boy. Now pay any attention to what they were
- 18:27saying. Most I just shined shoes, yeah, Miss Hall, Yeah,
- 18:51Lieutenant Guthrick police, Oh well you what I'd like to talk to you?
- 18:57Yeah? Apartments to mess you know? George Walker, Yeah, he's done
- 19:04something. He came to see a little while ago. Sure, I know
- 19:07him. We're just friends. He's done something, you know. Rudy Garvin,
- 19:15Yeah, friend of George's. What did George one just say? Alone?
- 19:19I just stopped by to say alone? How well do you know him?

- 19:55me? Sure? Thanks for all anytime? Sure side the apartment? Such
- 20:00your math. Here's the file on Rudy Garvin Van and his pictures. Doesn't

- 20:25Thinks he's tough. Yeah. Here's Quine's last report on George Wolcott's tailed
- 20:30her from the girls to the east side of town, where he met the

- 22:04What is all about? Why did that cop bring me in? Well?
- 22:07We wanted to talk to you some more, George about your brother. Oh,
- 22:11A couple of things have come up. They just kind of change our
- 22:15mind about him. You mean you don't think he did it? We're pretty
- 22:18sure he didn't. Well, I told you so. He wouldn't stick up
- 22:22a store or shoot anybody. I guess not. He just isn't the kind
- 22:26He knows who did stick up that store though, he knows who was using
- 22:30that station wagon. Well, why doesn't he tell you? Oh, he's

- 29:12the line up. Welcome back. Oh. In this case, it turns
- 29:18out that revs is listing off. The charge turned out to be prejudicial to
- 29:25the guy in the line not being familiar with modern police lineup. So I
- 29:30wonder if this sort of thing is even permitted, or if there's variants from
- 29:36place to place. But overall, I thought this was a pretty good mystery.
