- 0:42Speaker 1: Welcome to the Philadelphia Sports Table podcast show, the longest
- 0:45Speaker 1: running weekly Philly sports podcast show in the world, twelve
- 0:48Speaker 1: and a half years strong. Got a great show coming
- 0:50Speaker 1: your way this week.
- 0:52Speaker 2: I'm Jeff Warren.
- 0:53Speaker 1: I'm here with the Eric Leonard and if you're watching
- 0:55Speaker 1: on YouTube, he is Edgecombe.
- 0:58Speaker 3: Stand how you know buddy seventy seven? Can I do
- 1:04Speaker 3: seven for my I don't know how to do it.
- 1:06Speaker 2: I don't know. You look like you're doing a circle.
- 1:09Speaker 1: Well it's it's the crip. Actually, yeah, that's exactly lifelong.
- 1:15Speaker 1: You're listening to us on audio, just go over to YouTube.
- 1:17Speaker 1: I'm gonna say that right now. Go ahead, Yeah, it's true.
- 1:20Speaker 3: Yeah, see, I'm watching us, so I'm like, I don't
- 1:24Speaker 3: I forget to talk to the non YouTubers and YouTubers. Yes, yeah, yeah,
- 1:30Speaker 3: now I'm good.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Uh.
- 1:32Speaker 3: Six Ers lost again tonight.
- 1:34Speaker 2: We're gonna get into that night.
- 1:35Speaker 3: Yeah, tough one against last night against the Bulls. Still
- 1:39Speaker 3: love this team though I'm not we can get into
- 1:43Speaker 3: it later, but like, yeah, they're fun to watch. That's
- 1:46Speaker 3: the Loottom line. They were not fun to watch the
- 1:48Speaker 3: last two years, I would say so.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Last March it was horrendous to watch this team. Oh
- 1:55Speaker 1: it was horrendous.
- 1:56Speaker 3: Yeah, everyone was like Nick Nurse is a bad coach.
- 1:59Speaker 3: He's not a bad coach when he has players right,
- 2:01Speaker 3: and just a lot of things are jumping out with
- 2:03Speaker 3: this team. It's like we should be excited about them.
- 2:06Speaker 3: They should be excited about the Flyers. Yes, I'm watching
- 2:08Speaker 3: the Flyers now. All right, let's unpack this, okay, folks. Yes,
- 2:12Speaker 3: we have known Eric for all these years. I always
- 2:16Speaker 3: do the Flyers talk when Lenn is on because Lenn
- 2:19Speaker 3: and I have gotten into the Flyers and always have.
- 2:21Speaker 3: You know, for years we've been Flyers fans. And I
- 2:24Speaker 3: know you've watched Flyers stuff here and there, Eric, but
- 2:27Speaker 3: like over the years.
- 2:28Speaker 1: You've kind of gotten away from it. But now your son,
- 2:31Speaker 1: your amazing son, is really getting into hockey, and it's
- 2:35Speaker 1: getting you into it well basically because you have to
- 2:37Speaker 1: sit there and listen to it and watch it, I
- 2:40Speaker 1: should say, But I love it. You're getting into the hockey.
- 2:43Speaker 2: Man.
- 2:45Speaker 3: But they're not like the Sixers. I mean, they're not
- 2:47Speaker 3: as good as the Sixers twent wise, not yet. But
- 2:50Speaker 3: they're young and fun to watch. That's the one thing
- 2:53Speaker 3: that jumps out about this team is like, it's not like,
- 2:56Speaker 3: it's not like the two thousand and eighteen nineteen Flyers.
- 3:00Speaker 3: We had some aging players, some young players, and it
- 3:03Speaker 3: just wasn't meshing. Yeah, it's and there was that weird
- 3:07Speaker 3: feeling like what's the direction? Yeah kind of thing, like
- 3:10Speaker 3: even I can watch this now and be like, all right,
- 3:12Speaker 3: I kind of understand what they're doing here. It's gonna
- 3:13Speaker 3: take a little bit of time.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Yep.
- 3:16Speaker 3: They just they beat the Canadians last night and a shootout.
- 3:19Speaker 3: Watch that it was great. Yes, as my son pointed
- 3:22Speaker 3: out earlier, they did lose to the worst team in
- 3:24Speaker 3: the league before that. Ye okay, And yeah, I'm I'm
- 3:29Speaker 3: I'm actually in because well he kind of dragged me
- 3:31Speaker 3: into it. But still fun to watch.
- 3:34Speaker 1: I think he might get a Meatchcov jersey. He might
- 3:36Speaker 1: actually get a meatchkov a Matte baby birthday. Oh yep,
- 3:39Speaker 1: he wants one for his birthday. I know, when the hell,
- 3:42Speaker 1: by the way, when did hockey jerseys get to like
- 3:46Speaker 1: two hundred dollars? Oh, I know, it's crazy, Oh my god,
- 3:49Speaker 1: it's crazy. I have a fiftieth anniver. Back when the
- 3:51Speaker 1: Flyers were years ago, they were celebrating their fiftieth anniversary
- 3:54Speaker 1: have a sane gost despair of course, not on the
- 3:57Speaker 1: team fifty. I still love it, still wear it, but
- 4:01Speaker 1: it's ridiculous. It was like it was well over two
- 4:03Speaker 1: hundred dollars, I think. Yeah.
- 4:05Speaker 3: I was looking at the Mitch Coalffs jerseys on on
- 4:07Speaker 3: any NHL doc and I was just like, is there
- 4:11Speaker 3: a bargain bin Mitch conersey. You know, I'm gonna have to,
- 4:17Speaker 3: you know, spend a little cash here. But hell, even
- 4:19Speaker 3: the throwbacks, like the Schultzi I looked at, was like
- 4:22Speaker 3: one hundred and twenty, and that was a clearance Schultz
- 4:26Speaker 3: hasn't laced him up in forty years, a long time.
- 4:29Speaker 2: Yeap.
- 4:31Speaker 3: That really bummed me out because I bought my Edge
- 4:33Speaker 3: Comb shirt for like thirty bucks.
- 4:34Speaker 2: Yeah, well that's the thing.
- 4:35Speaker 1: Maybe you just get him a Meachkov shirt, you know,
- 4:38Speaker 1: but he went he wants to jersey though, right, he
- 4:40Speaker 1: wants the jersey.
- 4:40Speaker 2: It's the jersey, all right, gotta get it. You gotta
- 4:44Speaker 2: get it for him.
- 4:46Speaker 3: He turns thirteen next week, so it's a big it's big.
- 4:49Speaker 1: You're a teenager. You gotta get Oh, that's gonna be
- 4:51Speaker 1: a memorable one. I'd be memorable, man.
- 4:54Speaker 3: So sold.
- 4:55Speaker 2: We really are, folks.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Eric and I were talking before the show just about
- 5:00Speaker 1: our kids are getting older, they're doing really good things,
- 5:02Speaker 1: they're making some pretty good decisions, and we're just fucking old.
- 5:07Speaker 2: We just are.
- 5:09Speaker 3: We're just here not to get in the way at
- 5:10Speaker 3: this point.
- 5:11Speaker 1: Yes, that's really yeah, exactly. Well, we got a good show.
- 5:15Speaker 1: We got a good show everybody. We're gonna get into.
- 5:18Speaker 1: We haven't talked baseball, haven't talked Phillies in a little while,
- 5:21Speaker 1: but just some reflections on the Dodgers winning the World
- 5:24Speaker 1: Series and what the Phillies are gonna have to do
- 5:27Speaker 1: this offseason to compete once again next year. Such a
- 5:31Speaker 1: disappointing season once again for the Phillies. We're gonna dive
- 5:35Speaker 1: into some baseball talk. As Eric mentioned, we're gonna be
- 5:37Speaker 1: getting into this Sixers team. This, you know, the Sixers
- 5:40Speaker 1: team has been fun to watch. They started the season
- 5:43Speaker 1: on fire. They seem to be coming back down to earth,
- 5:46Speaker 1: coming back down to reality at this point in the season.
- 5:50Speaker 1: Then from there we're gonna get into some NFL trades.
- 5:52Speaker 1: The NFL trade situation has been absolutely crazy and the
- 5:58Speaker 1: Eagles were part of that. We're certainly gonna be getting
- 6:01Speaker 1: into the several trades that Howie Roseman and the Eagles
- 6:04Speaker 1: front office made this week.
- 6:07Speaker 3: Acquiring it was actually fun this year, man, It's never fun.
- 6:10Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 6:11Speaker 1: And look these I don't think these guys outside of
- 6:14Speaker 1: defensive vand and pass rusher Jalen Phillips, I'm not sure
- 6:18Speaker 1: that Michael Carter the second MC two as everybody calls him,
- 6:21Speaker 1: and Jay R Alexander, who knows if they're gonna work out,
- 6:24Speaker 1: But they are fun acquisitions, I think to think about
- 6:27Speaker 1: what could possibly happen down the road.
- 6:30Speaker 2: So we're gonna get into it. We're gonna get away.
- 6:33Speaker 1: Let's start now with and just get into some baseball
- 6:37Speaker 1: talk reflections on the Dodgers winning the World Series and
- 6:41Speaker 1: what the Phillies are gonna need to do this offseason
- 6:43Speaker 1: to compete once again. I gotta I gotta tell you, Eric,
- 6:46Speaker 1: like I just hate the Dodgers so much now for
- 6:51Speaker 1: you know, winning for the second time in two years.
- 6:54Speaker 2: Here.
- 6:55Speaker 1: Game seven obviously one of the great games in baseball
- 6:59Speaker 1: perhaps to have ever been played. The entirety of the
- 7:03Speaker 1: series was really good. You got You've got an unexpected
- 7:06Speaker 1: hero in Miguel Rojas, that you have a classic Game
- 7:11Speaker 1: three that could have just gone on forever, back and forth,
- 7:15Speaker 1: games mixed in night after night.
- 7:18Speaker 2: It was just that's how baseball should be. And I
- 7:21Speaker 2: hate it.
- 7:22Speaker 1: I hate that the Los Angeles Dodgers were part of this,
- 7:27Speaker 1: and and we're part of one of the great, one
- 7:30Speaker 1: of the great world series. I think that we saw
- 7:32Speaker 1: and I'm sitting there thinking to myself as well, man,
- 7:35Speaker 1: what the hell of the Phillies gonna have to do
- 7:37Speaker 1: this offseason to to get to this point where we
- 7:41Speaker 1: could see not only just a championship, but like just
- 7:45Speaker 1: some amazing baseball being played because the Blue Jays were
- 7:48Speaker 1: fantastic too in so many different moments.
- 7:51Speaker 2: It was.
- 7:52Speaker 1: It was definitely a World Series for us to remember,
- 7:56Speaker 1: those of us who love baseball. And again, as much
- 7:59Speaker 1: as I hate that, it makes me hate the Dodgers
- 8:01Speaker 1: that much more now, but it was still a fun
- 8:03Speaker 1: World Series and I'm like, what the hell of the
- 8:05Speaker 1: Philly is going to do now?
- 8:07Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 8:07Speaker 3: A couple thoughts, man, the Blue Jays what a solid squad.
- 8:12Speaker 3: They had every opportunity to win that series. And I'm
- 8:14Speaker 3: not trying to like piss off Blue Jays fans if
- 8:17Speaker 3: they're listening, but like they had every opportunity and they
- 8:21Speaker 3: have nothing to like hang their heads about. Yeah, I
- 8:25Speaker 3: know that sounds shitty if you're like a fan of
- 8:27Speaker 3: the Blue Jays, but like you guys have a chance
- 8:30Speaker 3: next year in the year after and like that that's
- 8:32Speaker 3: a solid squad. Yeah. The as far as the Dodgers go,
- 8:38Speaker 3: I will say, like I hate them too. I'm pretty
- 8:41Speaker 3: sure I put a couple f words in our friends
- 8:44Speaker 3: text thread when they won the series. But one thing
- 8:50Speaker 3: I will say about them which didn't piss me off
- 8:54Speaker 3: is that it wasn't just the superstars. It played well,
- 8:57Speaker 3: like all of the role players were and all they
- 9:00Speaker 3: came came huge Max montci kek Hernanez like like guys
- 9:05Speaker 3: that like the equivalency to us as like Brandon marsh
- 9:10Speaker 3: or Alec Baum, right, and like I can't I can't
- 9:15Speaker 3: complain too much, like, oh they have all the best players, Well,
- 9:18Speaker 3: they have some awesome fucking players, but like they're they're
- 9:21Speaker 3: their role players stepped up and not just offensive but
- 9:23Speaker 3: defensively they made especially because the Phillies, they they made
- 9:27Speaker 3: multiple great plays and they deserve to win, and I
- 9:30Speaker 3: hate saying that, but one one takeaway I did have though,
- 9:34Speaker 3: was when you look back at the National League, the
- 9:36Speaker 3: road to the National League for the Dodgers to get
- 9:38Speaker 3: to the World Series, the Phillies gave him the biggest
- 9:41Speaker 3: fight by far they did.
- 9:43Speaker 2: That's a good point.
- 9:44Speaker 3: Yeah, the Brewers was like toothless in their in their
- 9:47Speaker 3: their fight against the Dodgers.
- 9:49Speaker 1: Who the Dodgers played before that, I can't remember now, Gosh,
- 9:54Speaker 1: why am I forgetting?
- 9:55Speaker 3: But it was a nothing series, Like it was just
- 9:58Speaker 3: like it just kind of came and went. Yeah, you know,
- 10:02Speaker 3: but I really heard the Phillies had the pitching if
- 10:06Speaker 3: they just got the timely hitting going, which we've talked
- 10:08Speaker 3: about ad nauseum. They didn't have. But like you know,
- 10:11Speaker 3: hopefully the Phillies can take something away from that. But
- 10:15Speaker 3: I don't want it to be and we'll get to
- 10:16Speaker 3: it that this first topic is like, I don't want
- 10:18Speaker 3: it to be bring back everybody. Maybe we beat the Dodgers.
- 10:22Speaker 1: Yeah it was Cincinnati by the way, which they.
- 10:26Speaker 3: Just they just cleaned out, right, But like I think
- 10:29Speaker 3: that's a good takeaway as a Phillies fan, is like,
- 10:32Speaker 3: bring back the right players. Tweak some stuff, and you
- 10:36Speaker 3: were right there with them. But the players were bringing
- 10:40Speaker 3: back you got to bring back some marms. That's the
- 10:42Speaker 3: obvious thing is like the Blue Jays did not have
- 10:44Speaker 3: enough arms to finish out the series. They brought it
- 10:48Speaker 3: to a scavenge kid who I saw playing Buffalo right
- 10:51Speaker 3: before the World Series, and I'm like, why don't we
- 10:54Speaker 3: have that kind of guy? Maybe Andrew Painter's that guy,
- 10:56Speaker 3: but that's what jumped out, is like, you have to
- 10:59Speaker 3: have arms, just a just a treasure trove of arms
- 11:03Speaker 3: to beat that team. They brought back Alvarado today on
- 11:07Speaker 3: a nine million dollar player option or a team option.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Ye.
- 11:10Speaker 3: Great, great, pickup nine million dollars for Alvarado who was
- 11:14Speaker 3: basically an all star closer before he brought in Durhan
- 11:17Speaker 3: Duran and before it is, you know, before Alvarado's suspension. Yeah,
- 11:24Speaker 3: but like that's that's the that's the great, that's the
- 11:27Speaker 3: best first step they could have taken. That was smart
- 11:30Speaker 3: and I'm hoping they followed that that that road down
- 11:32Speaker 3: the free agency.
- 11:33Speaker 1: Yeah, I think we were talking about we mentioned it
- 11:35Speaker 1: with the Dodgers, the role players and how important they were.
- 11:39Speaker 1: I don't necessarily think that John Middleton and Jesus, who's
- 11:47Speaker 1: the Dave Dombrowski. God, I don't necessarily think you need
- 11:51Speaker 1: to go out and get the most expensive free agent
- 11:54Speaker 1: on the market. I don't think that that's absolutely necessary. Sure,
- 11:57Speaker 1: if they want to entertain it, fine, but I don't
- 12:02Speaker 1: I think that. Yes, the while the Dodgers do do that,
- 12:05Speaker 1: because it seems every year them, the Mets, and even
- 12:08Speaker 1: the Phillies to a certain extent, are in the market
- 12:11Speaker 1: for the largest free agent signing that particular offseason. But
- 12:16Speaker 1: the role players are so important, and I think we're
- 12:19Speaker 1: seeing that a lot more in baseball now, where it's
- 12:21Speaker 1: not just you know, I mean, we remember when Bryce
- 12:24Speaker 1: Harper was a free agent and uh got who who
- 12:28Speaker 1: was who? Who ended up going to Yeah yeah, well
- 12:31Speaker 1: with Turner, But I'm saying the guy went to the
- 12:33Speaker 1: Padres who was thinking about going to the Phills the
- 12:36Speaker 1: same year with Harper, many Machado. You know, you have
- 12:40Speaker 1: these moments where these free agents become available. Just because
- 12:44Speaker 1: your team gets them doesn't mean doesn't mean your team's
- 12:47Speaker 1: gonna get any better.
- 12:47Speaker 2: Look at the look at the.
- 12:48Speaker 1: Freaking Mets, for God's sake. I think role players are
- 12:51Speaker 1: so important moving forward in baseball, and I think the
- 12:54Speaker 1: Mets really showed us that. I mean, I mean the Dodgers.
- 12:57Speaker 1: I'm sorry the Dodgers shut Yeah, the.
- 12:58Speaker 3: Dodgers did, and you know, and the Phillies didn't.
- 13:01Speaker 4: Sure.
- 13:02Speaker 3: I would have liked to have had a better outfielder,
- 13:04Speaker 3: but Harrison Bader played super well down the stretch. He
- 13:07Speaker 3: was really good, and he was smart enough to like
- 13:09Speaker 3: opt out and become a free agent because he can
- 13:11Speaker 3: make more money. And they brought in Duran who had
- 13:14Speaker 3: a couple of hiccups, but like, for the most part,
- 13:15Speaker 3: he was a great closer. Yeah, Like, I think that
- 13:19Speaker 3: if they had made one more move for a beat,
- 13:22Speaker 3: might have put him over the top because they had
- 13:23Speaker 3: the arms. They like, they shut the Dodgers down offensively
- 13:28Speaker 3: multiple times in that series. But I think they need
- 13:34Speaker 3: to focus on that big jam. Like Alvarado was a
- 13:37Speaker 3: great job, great job getting him. Keep Schwarber, maybe you
- 13:40Speaker 3: bring back real Muto and I would just focus on
- 13:43Speaker 3: arms after that. That would be my main goal, because
- 13:46Speaker 3: I think that's what jumped out in that series with
- 13:48Speaker 3: the Dodgers. We we held them to have him have
- 13:51Speaker 3: him many runs. We just couldn't get him, you know,
- 13:53Speaker 3: couldn't get runs ourselves.
- 13:55Speaker 1: So I was disappointed with the Harrison Bader news. He
- 13:58Speaker 1: declined his end of a ten million dollar mutual option
- 14:02Speaker 1: for twenty twenty six. He's receiving a three million dollar buyout,
- 14:07Speaker 1: becomes a free agent. I wanted him back, I really did. Man,
- 14:12Speaker 1: he had an energy, you know, for a smaller guy
- 14:14Speaker 1: in baseball, he had an energy that I thought this
- 14:17Speaker 1: clubhouse absolutely needed. And you know, he was gonna be
- 14:20Speaker 1: able to be an everyday starter out in center field too.
- 14:24Speaker 2: And it's disappointing.
- 14:26Speaker 1: I don't know if they let that one get away,
- 14:29Speaker 1: But I don't know what's gonna happen with the outfield
- 14:31Speaker 1: at this point.
- 14:33Speaker 3: But the thing with him is, like, was he in
- 14:35Speaker 3: a contract year and he just picked it up at
- 14:37Speaker 3: the end of the season. You know me, maybe he's
- 14:39Speaker 3: one of those kind of plays. Maybe I don't know. Yeah,
- 14:41Speaker 3: he never really he never really you know, shown that before. Yeah,
- 14:46Speaker 3: like the end of the season, you have some you
- 14:49Speaker 3: have some young talent down in the farm system to
- 14:52Speaker 3: play off for Sir Crawford. You got Painter for an
- 14:55Speaker 3: arm like maybe maybe think like for the first time
- 14:59Speaker 3: at how over long like we can actually bring up
- 15:01Speaker 3: two guys, right and they contribute immediately, right, be awesome?
- 15:06Speaker 3: Because honestly, John, our friend of the show, John Stalness,
- 15:10Speaker 3: was tweeting the other day and I read it and
- 15:12Speaker 3: I agreed one hundred percent. Like the Dodgers not only
- 15:16Speaker 3: like sign good players, but like they also developed their players.
- 15:20Speaker 3: Like they have a lot of guys that they drafted,
- 15:22Speaker 3: not just traded for the Blue Jays too. They they
- 15:26Speaker 3: have players that they they developed over time. But shit,
- 15:30Speaker 3: Vlad Junior, it's been quite a while. Honestly, the Phillies
- 15:34Speaker 3: have done that. And I'm hoping for just out of
- 15:39Speaker 3: Luck's sake at this point, because it's been so long.
- 15:40Speaker 3: It's like, can we bring up Painter and Crawford and
- 15:44Speaker 3: maybe uh, who's the Aida Miller?
- 15:46Speaker 2: Right yep?
- 15:48Speaker 3: And like maybe maybe finally we bring up some guys
- 15:52Speaker 3: and and and they perform and and and like we
- 15:56Speaker 3: we actually displayed the development of our farm system while
- 16:00Speaker 3: signing some smart free agents here and there to fill
- 16:03Speaker 3: in the holes. Yeah, and to play those that's what
- 16:05Speaker 3: the team. Yeah, that's what, that's what this team needs. Like,
- 16:08Speaker 3: you're not going to sign You're not going to sign
- 16:10Speaker 3: the top three free agents and like it's just not
- 16:12Speaker 3: going to happen. Like this team has been dying for
- 16:16Speaker 3: young talent to come up and perform it. It's been
- 16:18Speaker 3: too long. And that's the key to his upcoming season.
- 16:20Speaker 1: I mean, it's it's I mean Alec Bohm. I mean,
- 16:23Speaker 1: and yes, I've always been an Alec Bohm defender. I
- 16:26Speaker 1: mean he was really the last one coming up through
- 16:28Speaker 1: the farm system, and before that was like Aaron Nola,
- 16:31Speaker 1: you know, I mean it's been a while since there's
- 16:35Speaker 1: been a steady, steady stream of this.
- 16:38Speaker 3: Old of those guys.
- 16:39Speaker 2: I know, yeah, like it's been it's.
- 16:41Speaker 3: Been that long. Like yeah, like ree Hoskins is a
- 16:44Speaker 3: free agent now because the Brewers declined his option.
- 16:47Speaker 2: Yeah, he was a.
- 16:48Speaker 3: Guy that brought up, but he's like what thirty two now,
- 16:51Speaker 3: And I saw somewhere on Twitter maybe he's an option
- 16:53Speaker 3: for the Phillies. I'm like, oh, come on, no, stop
- 16:57Speaker 3: bring up our young like that's what he was like,
- 17:00Speaker 3: wy don't we do that with they're on farm system?
- 17:02Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 17:02Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, all right, Well we are going to be
- 17:05Speaker 1: talking more Phillies in the future. We're going to be
- 17:07Speaker 1: having some more guests coming on the show in the
- 17:10Speaker 1: coming weeks and months, talk about this team. Let us
- 17:12Speaker 1: know what you're thinking about this Phillies offseason Philadelphia Sports
- 17:16Speaker 1: Table at gmail dot com. We'd love to read your
- 17:18Speaker 1: email here on the show and respond to it. Let's
- 17:21Speaker 1: now move onto the Philadelphia seventy six ers. My goodness,
- 17:25Speaker 1: what a team that we saw right out of the gate.
- 17:28Speaker 1: This was a team that was on fire. In fact,
- 17:31Speaker 1: when what four in a row? Holy freaking crap. And
- 17:35Speaker 1: I think now they are coming back down to reality.
- 17:39Speaker 1: Lost tonight as we're recording this on Wednesday, November fifth,
- 17:42Speaker 1: to the Cleveland Cavaliers. They lost to the Bulls as
- 17:45Speaker 1: well this week. I think the team is coming back
- 17:48Speaker 1: down to reality, but still still a very fun team
- 17:53Speaker 1: to watch here. So what have you been seeing here
- 17:56Speaker 1: that you like?
- 17:57Speaker 2: Eric?
- 17:58Speaker 1: Some of the things you might not necessarily be liking.
- 18:00Speaker 1: Some things this team is gonna need to work on.
- 18:03Speaker 1: I don't know what are your thoughts about them coming
- 18:05Speaker 1: back down to reality at this point?
- 18:08Speaker 3: Well, I'll just start with like an overall philosophy of like, like,
- 18:12Speaker 3: this team's actually fun to watch now.
- 18:14Speaker 2: They are like that, and we didn't think they were
- 18:16Speaker 2: gonna be. We didn't think they were gonna be.
- 18:18Speaker 3: No, we thought it was gonna be a slog this year.
- 18:21Speaker 3: It was gonna take time for Edgecomb to come in.
- 18:23Speaker 3: I thought it was gonna be like an energy guy,
- 18:25Speaker 3: heat check guy off the bench. Yeah, he's had a
- 18:27Speaker 3: rough two games now in a row, but like he's
- 18:29Speaker 3: also nineteen years old, right, so I'm not. It's just
- 18:32Speaker 3: like basically it's for his road trip. So you have
- 18:38Speaker 3: your two guys like that. There's so like like the
- 18:42Speaker 3: the Hornets, the Kings, like, there's so many bad teams
- 18:45Speaker 3: that don't even know what their two guys are. Yeah,
- 18:48Speaker 3: that are gonna be They're two guys like five years
- 18:50Speaker 3: from now, right, whereas the Sixers had that now right,
- 18:53Speaker 3: all the questions about EMBIID PG. Thirteen and some of
- 18:57Speaker 3: the older guys like you, at least you can look
- 18:59Speaker 3: at their ross and be like, Okay, these are these
- 19:01Speaker 3: are your two future superstars. Let's build around them and
- 19:06Speaker 3: we'll figure everything out. The one other thing that jumps out,
- 19:09Speaker 3: and I know they're five and three. They lost tonight
- 19:11Speaker 3: against Cleveland. That's a tough back to back. You're playing Chicago,
- 19:14Speaker 3: who's six and one. Then you're playing a potential Finals
- 19:18Speaker 3: team in the Calves at their place. They came off
- 19:22Speaker 3: a loss, so like four and three, that's a tough spot.
- 19:25Speaker 3: You have no one to match up with Mobley whatsoever.
- 19:28Speaker 3: That was the one thing I was texting with my
- 19:29Speaker 3: six Ers buddies, like, who the fuck on this team
- 19:32Speaker 3: is going to cover Mobily? Right, He's gonna get every
- 19:34Speaker 3: rebound he did tonight. He was he was awesome and
- 19:37Speaker 3: he's he's he's taking that next step up as kind
- 19:40Speaker 3: of like like a great power forward in the league.
- 19:43Speaker 3: But like, the one thing that jumps out, like I said,
- 19:45Speaker 3: is you have your two guys. They're fun to watch
- 19:48Speaker 3: and Nick Nurse is Nick is a good coach. He
- 19:50Speaker 3: is like he took an l last year. The team sucked.
- 19:55Speaker 1: Glad he's still here. I'm glad he's still here. Actually
- 19:58Speaker 1: I am too. And you could tell he kind of
- 19:59Speaker 1: gave up last year.
- 20:00Speaker 3: He's doing his best, but I think he thought like
- 20:03Speaker 3: I'm a dead man walking, I'm gonna get fired, Like
- 20:06Speaker 3: I don't know what to do here, I have no options.
- 20:08Speaker 3: Quentin Grimes is my top scorer. Like it was just
- 20:11Speaker 3: a mess at the end of the last season. They
- 20:13Speaker 3: got the third pick, they got a potential superstar and
- 20:16Speaker 3: not just that, Like I think he saw his roster
- 20:18Speaker 3: and he was like, I'm coming in this year with
- 20:21Speaker 3: a new offensive philosophy where we're gonna play fast. We're
- 20:25Speaker 3: gonna play fast, We're gonna play quick, quick passes, backdoor
- 20:29Speaker 3: cuts and like setting guys up, pick and roll, pop
- 20:34Speaker 3: out three pointers. Maxi and edgecumb have lived off them
- 20:37Speaker 3: all season long. And if it's not there, boom, go
- 20:39Speaker 3: to the basket, take it to the rim, get fouled,
- 20:42Speaker 3: go to the free throw line. And I think he's
- 20:46Speaker 3: made a great adjustment to the talent that he has,
- 20:49Speaker 3: and he's made this team like they're actually competitive. Yeah.
- 20:53Speaker 3: And I think our preseason prediction of the ceiling being
- 20:56Speaker 3: like a five seed, yeah, I think it's a little bit. Yeah,
- 21:01Speaker 3: if Embid can play a little more. I watched the
- 21:05Speaker 3: Bulls game last night. Jeff'm not gonna lie. I was
- 21:08Speaker 3: kind of like, and Bee can't jump anymore. It seems
- 21:12Speaker 3: like a problem.
- 21:13Speaker 2: It does.
- 21:15Speaker 3: There were a couple of times he had the ball
- 21:16Speaker 3: down offensively near the rim and he just he did
- 21:20Speaker 3: a layup like I do now because I'm forty nine,
- 21:22Speaker 3: I can't jump anymore. Yeah, he just pushed it. He
- 21:25Speaker 3: didn't jump, And I'm like, is that where we're at
- 21:28Speaker 3: with this guy? That sucks? Yeah, maybe he can play
- 21:32Speaker 3: into form. Maybe Paul George can come back and like,
- 21:35Speaker 3: you know, play a little bit and play defense. And
- 21:39Speaker 3: I'm still banking on the possibility of him coming back
- 21:41Speaker 3: and being like a good contributor. Yeah. Mc kaine just
- 21:46Speaker 3: came back. He looked terrible last night, but it's his
- 21:48Speaker 3: first game back after how many you know, how many
- 21:50Speaker 3: how much time off?
- 21:52Speaker 1: Well with Imbude really quick, with Embiard really quick. Just
- 21:56Speaker 1: just some numbers here, he's averaging seventeen point eight points
- 21:59Speaker 1: per game average, averaging his field goal percentage just forty
- 22:04Speaker 1: two point three three from three point range thirty three
- 22:08Speaker 1: point three. I mean that's not gonna that's not gonna
- 22:11Speaker 1: probably hold up. I mean maybe it will. I mean, well,
- 22:14Speaker 1: it actually needs to improve. What am I talking about?
- 22:16Speaker 1: I was thinking it was forty three for some reason.
- 22:18Speaker 1: It's thirty three point three from three point range, but
- 22:21Speaker 1: seventy doesn't even point eight over.
- 22:23Speaker 3: He doesn't even jump on his he doesn't even jump
- 22:26Speaker 3: on his jump shots. Yeah anymore. Yeah, he just stands there. Yeah,
- 22:30Speaker 3: still is great. Form great jump shot. But we're at
- 22:33Speaker 3: the point now. It's like I'm hoping, like a month
- 22:37Speaker 3: later from now he's a little more athletic, because beyond that,
- 22:40Speaker 3: I don't know what to do with him. Yeah against
- 22:42Speaker 3: a guy like Jokich.
- 22:43Speaker 1: Yeah, meanwhile'll go ahead, go ahead. No, I was gonna say, meanwhile,
- 22:47Speaker 1: Tyrese Maxi, he's averaging thirty four point four points per game.
- 22:52Speaker 1: He has taken it from a points perspective. He has
- 22:55Speaker 1: taken over that Joel Embiid torch that you know, that
- 22:59Speaker 1: torch we talked about being passed. His field goal percentage
- 23:02Speaker 1: is forty seven point five at this point, and this
- 23:05Speaker 1: three point range from three point range is forty eight
- 23:07Speaker 1: point five.
- 23:09Speaker 2: It's fantastic, sir, It's absurd.
- 23:11Speaker 3: Yes, Like he's okay. Everyone talks about Everyone talks about
- 23:15Speaker 3: the leap, like he's made the leap, but he's he's now. Honestly,
- 23:19Speaker 3: I watched the game tonight. Donovan Mitchell is a stud.
- 23:24Speaker 3: He is so hard to play, He's huge, he's awesome offensively.
- 23:28Speaker 3: Max He's in his league now. I think Maxi is
- 23:30Speaker 3: in the Brunson. Donovan Mitchell like he's in that sphere now,
- 23:36Speaker 3: and that's how good he's become. And he's younger than them,
- 23:40Speaker 3: more athletic than them, honestly, So we have our superstar.
- 23:46Speaker 3: How many teams just need a superstar and he's he's
- 23:49Speaker 3: actually at Edgecombe will probably round into one. I'm just
- 23:53Speaker 3: gonna say, Quentin Grimes is playing great basketball.
- 23:56Speaker 1: I can't I was gonna mention it because man, you
- 23:59Speaker 1: were shitting on the first game.
- 24:01Speaker 2: Of the season. I think it was terrible. The first
- 24:03Speaker 2: game was.
- 24:06Speaker 3: Kelly Aubras is a really nice player, but that but
- 24:10Speaker 3: I bring him up because that's where you need and
- 24:12Speaker 3: beat and Paul George a step up because Ubra is
- 24:16Speaker 3: a nice, complimentary player. He's playing thirty eight minutes a game.
- 24:20Speaker 3: He scored nineteen tonight, but like that's too much for him, right,
- 24:23Speaker 3: Like this isn't sustainable as a team You're in a
- 24:30Speaker 3: like the East is kind of weak, but I think
- 24:33Speaker 3: it might be better than we think. So like you're
- 24:35Speaker 3: gonna have to have those two eventually step up. Like
- 24:37Speaker 3: Paul George better fucking play this week, because I've heard
- 24:40Speaker 3: so much like he's making this return soon and his
- 24:43Speaker 3: his his presence defensively alone will just be huge. He
- 24:47Speaker 3: could he could at least give Mobiley a run for
- 24:51Speaker 3: his money or a player like MOBILEI, like, you know
- 24:53Speaker 3: down the road, like with Giannis or something like that.
- 24:56Speaker 3: Like they got to get him back and just to
- 24:58Speaker 3: at least contribute and if if only to like trade
- 25:02Speaker 3: them for something down the road. Yeah, but like I know,
- 25:07Speaker 3: they're five and three. They lost tonight. The Bulls game
- 25:10Speaker 3: was a tough one. They were up like twenty one
- 25:12Speaker 3: points at one point. Like, I don't know how you
- 25:13Speaker 3: blow that game, but like yeah, but they're a young
- 25:17Speaker 3: team and that's a good game to be Like, Okay,
- 25:20Speaker 3: we're up twenty one. We lost by two. Let's work
- 25:22Speaker 3: on that, Like, we have things to work on. We
- 25:24Speaker 3: went into Cleveland the next night, played our asses off.
- 25:27Speaker 3: Actually they lost by eleven, but still they had the
- 25:31Speaker 3: They were done by twenty in the first half, got
- 25:33Speaker 3: the got the game to five. So this is a good, young,
- 25:38Speaker 3: hard playing, competitive team.
- 25:40Speaker 1: We haven't seen horrendous We have not seen horrendous basketball.
- 25:43Speaker 2: We have not seen it once.
- 25:45Speaker 3: They haven't been blown out yet, yes, like they've they've been.
- 25:48Speaker 3: They've been being blown out during a game, but they've
- 25:50Speaker 3: come back and like and played hard in every single game.
- 25:53Speaker 3: That was not the case last year or even the
- 25:55Speaker 3: year before.
- 25:55Speaker 1: Honestly, yeah, absolutely, it's gonna be fun to continue watching
- 26:00Speaker 1: this Sixers team for sure. So folks, we're gonna take
- 26:03Speaker 1: a break here. Before we do, let's get into let's
- 26:07Speaker 1: get let's get into.
- 26:08Speaker 2: Some promos here real quick.

- 26:34Speaker 1: Blue Sky can search out Brick Pollot for Eric. You

- 26:41Speaker 1: We're on Instagram, Twitter, slash x. I'm over on the
- 26:45Speaker 1: TikTok at mister Jeff Warren. So that being said, we're
- 26:50Speaker 1: gonna take up a break and when we get back,
- 26:53Speaker 1: we're gonna get into some NFL talk and some Eagles talk.
- 26:55Speaker 1: Stick with us, all right, We're back and we are
- 27:00Speaker 1: going to dive now into some NFL trades man the
- 27:04Speaker 1: NFL trade market this past week. Eric was absolutely insane.
- 27:09Speaker 1: We're gonna get into two specific teams. First, the New
- 27:13Speaker 1: York Jets absolutely tanking here, it seems, getting rid of
- 27:18Speaker 1: talent as they're looking to what seems to be an obvious,
- 27:21Speaker 1: you know, rebuild mode that they're going to be in.
- 27:24Speaker 1: And the Dallas Cowboys trading for some defensive help is
- 27:29Speaker 1: not going to really help them in the NFC East,
- 27:31Speaker 1: I'm not too sure, but really quick, I mean the Jets,
- 27:35Speaker 1: I mean, what a joke of an organization and a
- 27:40Speaker 1: complete cluster f here when you're trading Quinn Williams and
- 27:46Speaker 1: Sauce Gardner away and who are supposed to be if
- 27:51Speaker 1: I'm not mistaken, the like foundational pieces of what your
- 27:55Speaker 1: franchise was going to be from a defensive perspective, now
- 27:58Speaker 1: you don't have them anymore. It never ceases to amaze
- 28:02Speaker 1: me that there are people in professional sports that still
- 28:07Speaker 1: can have their jobs and still are able to And yes,
- 28:10Speaker 1: I know, Joe Douglas isn't there anymore in New York.
- 28:13Speaker 1: You know, he's back with the Eagles, actually in the
- 28:15Speaker 1: front office. But it amazes me that these people continue
- 28:19Speaker 1: to work and have jobs and do such a shitty
- 28:22Speaker 1: and terrible job with their team building. Meanwhile, you've got
- 28:27Speaker 1: the Philadelphia Eagles who're gonna get to in a little
- 28:29Speaker 1: bit making some really good strategic trades in my opinion,
- 28:34Speaker 1: I mean, I'm just I'm just amazed by where the
- 28:36Speaker 1: trade market went. I mean, Seahawks ended up trading for
- 28:39Speaker 1: Rashid Rashid Sahed, and the Jaguars trading with the Raiders
- 28:45Speaker 1: for Jacoby Myers getting some wide receiver help as well. Again,
- 28:51Speaker 1: Cowboys acquiring Logan Wilson from the Cincinnati Bengals as well.
- 28:57Speaker 1: I'm not sure what the Cowboys are really trying to
- 28:59Speaker 1: kind of do here as well, giving up some draft
- 29:02Speaker 1: capital for some older players. I don't know, there's a
- 29:06Speaker 1: lot to unpack here. You know what, What are your
- 29:08Speaker 1: thoughts about where the trade market went this week?
- 29:13Speaker 2: Just to laugh?
- 29:15Speaker 3: Well, Number one, at least it was fun. It was
- 29:18Speaker 3: usually this is the NBA trade deadline is always like
- 29:21Speaker 3: countdown time. Yeah, yeah, and there's gonna be some trade.
- 29:24Speaker 3: Like even if it's boring, it's at least like trades
- 29:28Speaker 3: are probably gonna happen. It's a little more exciting. Yeah.
- 29:31Speaker 3: The NFL one is usually like a just a complete dud.
- 29:34Speaker 3: This one like outshined the NBA draft trade, the deadline
- 29:39Speaker 3: for the past two years by far.
- 29:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 29:41Speaker 3: I was really surprised. Some quick takeaways. I I should
- 29:47Speaker 3: love what the Jets did because you're you're going nowhere.
- 29:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, so why not tank? Right?
- 29:55Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 29:55Speaker 2: I mean.
- 29:57Speaker 3: Who's their quarterback again? What the hell's his name? Justin?
- 30:00Speaker 3: Justin likes like, so you brought in Justin Fields two years,
- 30:06Speaker 3: forty million dollars, right, He's a complete dud. He sucks.
- 30:10Speaker 3: And that scares me if I was a Jets fan,
- 30:15Speaker 3: because I'm like, well, we made all these great trades,
- 30:17Speaker 3: we have the when they get back three first round
- 30:19Speaker 3: picks in the second round.
- 30:20Speaker 2: By basically yeah, yeah.
- 30:23Speaker 3: Which I love that for the Jets, Like, let's rebuild.
- 30:27Speaker 3: You've got what five first round picks in the next
- 30:29Speaker 3: two drafts and an extra second rounder. That's how you
- 30:32Speaker 3: rebuild it entire franchise. We've seen it before. It's worked.
- 30:35Speaker 3: The Lions are a great example recently. But of course
- 30:39Speaker 3: you have to draft the right players. Jumior Gibbs and
- 30:42Speaker 3: like the whole thing now, the fact that they signed
- 30:47Speaker 3: Justin Fields to a two year, forty million dollar contract
- 30:51Speaker 3: and they're trading away all these guys they just drafted,
- 30:53Speaker 3: like what four years ago. Basically Sauce Gardner Williams is
- 30:58Speaker 3: a little further out, but like, love the idea, love
- 31:02Speaker 3: the design, like, let let's let's rebuild, but like, you
- 31:06Speaker 3: haven't developed a quarterback and how many fucking are I know?
- 31:11Speaker 3: So like again, love the idea. Can you can you
- 31:15Speaker 3: can you make it work? Probably not just from history. Unfortunately,
- 31:22Speaker 3: we have a Jets fan in our life, and I
- 31:23Speaker 3: feel bad saying that because he's he's been a lifelong sufferer.
- 31:29Speaker 3: But again, like what they did, love what the Cowboys
- 31:32Speaker 3: did for the eagle's sake. Yes, that seem's a fucking joke.
- 31:37Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 31:38Speaker 3: I went over to my so Jerry Jones is what
- 31:41Speaker 3: eighty two years old, some.
- 31:43Speaker 2: One hundred and fifty four.
- 31:46Speaker 3: Yeah, I went. I went to my parents house the
- 31:48Speaker 3: other day. It was like two in the afternoon, and
- 31:51Speaker 3: my dad was in his chair, fast asleep with a
- 31:56Speaker 3: blanket over his legs, and I'm just like this, Oh,
- 32:00Speaker 3: this is where we're at in his life, Like this
- 32:02Speaker 3: is where he's like he's younger than Jerry Jones.
- 32:05Speaker 2: Oa.
- 32:06Speaker 3: That was the point I'm trying to make. Jerry Jones
- 32:10Speaker 3: is so full of himself and had to get out
- 32:13Speaker 3: of the Micah Parsons trade disaster. Yeah, and unfortunately for
- 32:17Speaker 3: Cowboys fans, his his concept was, well, you know what
- 32:21Speaker 3: I'm going to trade for Quentin Williams. That is his name, Yeah,
- 32:24Speaker 3: q Williams. Yeah, Quinn Williams. And I'm just gonna give
- 32:29Speaker 3: up one first round pick and a second rounder. And
- 32:32Speaker 3: the first round pick he gave away, by the way,
- 32:34Speaker 3: is not even the worst one. It's the better of
- 32:36Speaker 3: the ones. Yeah, by the way. And uh for like
- 32:41Speaker 3: the sixth best defensive tackle in the league. Yeah, and
- 32:45Speaker 3: the guy got from the from Green Bay is like,
- 32:47Speaker 3: what the fifteenth best defensive tackle? Because you're trying to
- 32:50Speaker 3: stop the run this year, you're three to five and one. Yes,
- 32:54Speaker 3: you just trade all your future draft capital to stop
- 32:57Speaker 3: the run in a season you're not gonna make the playoffs. Ritible,
- 33:01Speaker 3: It's unfucking believed. Like when I saw that trade, I
- 33:03Speaker 3: was like, someone needs to pull the reins. Yes, but
- 33:08Speaker 3: then but then you think about it. You watch the
- 33:09Speaker 3: Cowboys documentary on Netflix. He surrounded himself with his whole family.
- 33:13Speaker 3: No one's gonna go tell Dad like exactly, Dad, You're
- 33:17Speaker 3: fucking nuts, Dad, this.
- 33:19Speaker 2: Might be a little crazy here. I don't know if
- 33:21Speaker 2: you want to do this.
- 33:23Speaker 3: Gosh, what a horrible trade. It was like it didn't
- 33:27Speaker 3: make any sense. I read it and I'm like, that's dumb.
- 33:31Speaker 3: Like I didn't need to go on ESPN, like what's
- 33:33Speaker 3: the grades on this trade? Like it was No, It's
- 33:35Speaker 3: just a dumb trade. This is stupid.
- 33:37Speaker 2: I'm so glad.
- 33:38Speaker 1: I'm so glad we're going down this road because that's
- 33:40Speaker 1: where I wanted to go. This team is going nowhere
- 33:43Speaker 1: in the NFC East. They're going nowhere. And it's been
- 33:47Speaker 1: like this for some time now. This trade deadline solidifies
- 33:52Speaker 1: the fact that this Dallas Cowboys team is going to
- 33:55Speaker 1: be floundering at least for another couple of seasons.
- 33:57Speaker 2: At least.
- 33:59Speaker 1: Dak Press God is not getting any younger. Their rushing
- 34:03Speaker 1: game is not not great.
- 34:05Speaker 2: I know they've got uh uh.
- 34:08Speaker 1: Willam uh Oh gosh, why am I forgetting his freaking name?
- 34:12Speaker 2: Boy?
- 34:12Speaker 1: Man, I'm getting old. I'm starting to forget some of
- 34:14Speaker 1: these freaking names. Offense, running back Javonte Williams Javonte Williams.
- 34:22Speaker 1: You know, yes, they have Cede Lamb. Other than that,
- 34:25Speaker 1: who else do they have? They have an offensive line
- 34:27Speaker 1: just kind of a piecemeal thing that used to be
- 34:29Speaker 1: dominant now they're not. It's just it is good to see.
- 34:33Speaker 1: I love seeing what Jerry Jones is doing. He is horrible.
- 34:37Speaker 1: He's making terrible decisions. This team is going to be
- 34:40Speaker 1: floundering for the next two years at least at least,
- 34:44Speaker 1: and I love it. As an Eagles fan, you just
- 34:47Speaker 1: love to see it. Meanwhile, go I was go ahead,
- 34:51Speaker 1: just real quick.
- 34:52Speaker 3: Yeah, I read this great piece by Bill Barwell today
- 34:55Speaker 3: on ESPN and he talked about, so Jerry Jones does this.
- 35:02Speaker 3: He drags these talks out to keep the Cowboys in
- 35:07Speaker 3: like being the first story on ESPN. Yeah, the spotlight, right, yep.
- 35:11Speaker 3: And he's like, basically what he did he actually calculated.
- 35:15Speaker 3: I don't know he quantified it, but I like the number.
- 35:18Speaker 3: He was like, basically, the Cowboys cost themselves eighty three
- 35:22Speaker 3: million dollars because if they had just signed Prescott immediately
- 35:27Speaker 3: Ceedee Lamb and Parsons, rather than drag it out and
- 35:31Speaker 3: let other players sign to set the bar. Yeah, he
- 35:35Speaker 3: was basically like if I if you had just signed
- 35:37Speaker 3: Prescott before so and so got signed, he would have
- 35:40Speaker 3: saved himself thirty million. And then ceedee lamb. Same thing.
- 35:43Speaker 3: And then Michael Parsons and I read him like, that's
- 35:46Speaker 3: a really good piece of analysis, because it probably did.
- 35:49Speaker 3: But what's the offset costs of keeping the Cowboys in
- 35:54Speaker 3: the spotlight throughout all those like those story after story
- 35:59Speaker 3: on ESPN and other other avenues, Like he probably made
- 36:03Speaker 3: himself a lot of money, but he made the team worse, Yes,
- 36:06Speaker 3: and cost them cap boys. And now this is why
- 36:09Speaker 3: you have instead of my comparisons, you have two good
- 36:13Speaker 3: defensive tackles and you're paying them a lot of money,
- 36:15Speaker 3: and you lost first round picks, yes, instead of having
- 36:18Speaker 3: the best edge rusher in football. Yes, love it. Yes,
- 36:22Speaker 3: it's great, it's great. Can I just say real quick,
- 36:25Speaker 3: the one trade that did scare me as an Eagles fan.
- 36:27Speaker 3: I didn't like this trade because I was like, man,
- 36:30Speaker 3: Seattle's pretty goddamn good. All they needed was one more
- 36:35Speaker 3: like pass receiver.
- 36:36Speaker 2: Yeah, that trade.
- 36:37Speaker 3: They made a fourth rounder for the kid from the
- 36:39Speaker 3: Saints who's having a really good year. Yea, yeah, Rareshie's
- 36:45Speaker 3: the heat I was just like, JSN is their entire offense.
- 36:49Speaker 3: I have him in one of my fantasy teams. He's saving
- 36:51Speaker 3: my season. He needed some help, and like, now you
- 36:55Speaker 3: got you got a speed burner out here, you got
- 36:57Speaker 3: the best receiver football over here, even awesome defense, you
- 37:01Speaker 3: have great home field advantage. Sam Donald's playing awesome. Yeah,
- 37:05Speaker 3: and it's like that's probably our number one opponent in
- 37:09Speaker 3: the NFC right now. And to make that trade for
- 37:12Speaker 3: only a fourth rounder, I was like, damn, that made
- 37:14Speaker 3: them a lot better. It dead sucks. Yeah, Like if
- 37:17Speaker 3: we're one seed and they're a two seed, they're coming
- 37:20Speaker 3: to Philly. But like that's a scary one two offensive
- 37:24Speaker 3: option to face in the NC title game. If that's
- 37:26Speaker 3: where it comes to.
- 37:27Speaker 1: Right, that's a good point, great point to make. Look,
- 37:30Speaker 1: we talk about the Dallas Cowboys and how horrendous and
- 37:33Speaker 1: awful their decision making is. Let's move to the Philadelphia
- 37:37Speaker 1: Eagles and what we have seen time and time again.
- 37:41Speaker 1: We're gonna dive into this a little bit more a
- 37:43Speaker 1: little bit more detail with our guests this week, Brandon
- 37:45Speaker 1: Lee Gouton from Bleedinggreen nation dot com.
- 37:49Speaker 2: But when Howie Roseman.
- 37:51Speaker 1: Decides that you know, we're going to try to swing
- 37:56Speaker 1: at something with some talent that has been proven at
- 37:59Speaker 1: some point point or another in the NFL, with cornerback
- 38:02Speaker 1: JayR Alexander, cornerback Michael Carter the Second and then of
- 38:07Speaker 1: course him bringing in as well, which my god, I
- 38:10Speaker 1: love when when the Jalen Phillips trade hit my phone
- 38:15Speaker 1: and I got I got a notification. Oh my god,
- 38:18Speaker 1: I was so happy because we have many how many
- 38:22Speaker 1: weeks have we been talking about it? We talked about
- 38:24Speaker 1: it over the summer, even before training camp started, very
- 38:28Speaker 1: concerned about what the past rush was going to look like,
- 38:30Speaker 1: losing Josh Sweat, losing Milton Williams. And then we had
- 38:33Speaker 1: the cornerback situation. What's gonna happen with cornerback two Adri
- 38:37Speaker 1: Jackson Khieling Ringo not not doing good, so they bring
- 38:43Speaker 1: he brings in JayR Alexander and Michael Carter the Second
- 38:46Speaker 1: to see what happens. And I would venture to say
- 38:48Speaker 1: that Vic Fangio had something to do with this as well. Again,
- 38:52Speaker 1: I'm gonna be getting into that with BLG in a
- 38:54Speaker 1: bit too. But I love these trades. I do, and
- 38:58Speaker 1: they may not work out, but I love that there's
- 39:01Speaker 1: a strategic aspect to this. And when you look at
- 39:04Speaker 1: what the Eagles gave up to get these players, not
- 39:07Speaker 1: a ton and they have a ton of assets going
- 39:10Speaker 1: into this year's draft, the twenty twenty six draft. I
- 39:14Speaker 1: absolutely love what the Eagles did here.
- 39:16Speaker 2: Eric.
- 39:18Speaker 3: I mean, honestly, if Seattle didn't win the trade deadline,
- 39:22Speaker 3: I think the Eagles did. Yeah, Like, I mean, how
- 39:27Speaker 3: he's a Harvard business dork, but he understands personnel. Like
- 39:31Speaker 3: you You've had these guys that have run teams as
- 39:35Speaker 3: gms and they run it like a business, but into
- 39:39Speaker 3: the ground eventually, like like I mean, look at the
- 39:42Speaker 3: Kinky you know, eventually it didn't work out, right, But
- 39:45Speaker 3: like this guy understands risk assessment and like for what
- 39:52Speaker 3: they gave up for these three guys and just taking
- 39:55Speaker 3: flyers on three really talented players that can help the
- 40:00Speaker 3: team with no downside. There's there's nothing.
- 40:03Speaker 2: To no downside.
- 40:05Speaker 1: If it doesn't work out, it doesn't work out, and
- 40:07Speaker 1: it could be the Achilles heel of the season, but
- 40:10Speaker 1: you know what, there's yeah.
- 40:13Speaker 3: It's not going to be the Achilles heel though, Like,
- 40:15Speaker 3: like these guys aren't going to like destroy the team,
- 40:19Speaker 3: Like they're not going to kill the team, Like there's
- 40:21Speaker 3: really nothing beyond like all their contributions can do is
- 40:25Speaker 3: like help the team. They're not going to bring the
- 40:27Speaker 3: team down. Jalen Phillips, by the way, like they give
- 40:29Speaker 3: it a third round pick, he's a free agent, he
- 40:32Speaker 3: can walk, They're gonna get a compensatory pick.
- 40:34Speaker 2: Yeah, he leaves like that is that is.
- 40:37Speaker 3: Brilliant GMing And I saw that many times. I saw
- 40:39Speaker 3: that many places on Twitter, like wow, how he really
- 40:42Speaker 3: knows what he's doing.
- 40:43Speaker 1: By the way, we're getting compensatory picks for Josh Sweat,
- 40:46Speaker 1: Milton Williams as well.
- 40:47Speaker 3: Exactly, like like there's a reason he didn't go after
- 40:53Speaker 3: the kid from the Jets the defensive end, right, yeah,
- 40:55Speaker 3: because because there's no compensatory thing coming back. He's like,
- 40:59Speaker 3: I'd rather get a third rounder for Jamn Phillips, who's
- 41:01Speaker 3: talented and has played for Vic Fangio in the past,
- 41:04Speaker 3: and I can get maybe like a fourth rounder if
- 41:08Speaker 3: he just walks, by the way, I'm not I'm not
- 41:11Speaker 3: even paying him. The Dolphins already paid him. I own
- 41:14Speaker 3: like three million bucks. That that's chump change at this point,
- 41:17Speaker 3: Like just just really smart, Like I don't know why
- 41:22Speaker 3: other gms don't like or why the teams be like
- 41:25Speaker 3: don't offer him one hundred million dollars to be their GM.
- 41:28Speaker 3: It doesn't make any sense.
- 41:29Speaker 2: Why do the Eagles keep winning the trade deadline every year?
- 41:32Speaker 2: Do you know what I mean?
- 41:33Speaker 4: Like?
- 41:33Speaker 1: Why why do NFL teams continue to allow this to happen?
- 41:37Speaker 2: It's amazing to me.
- 41:39Speaker 3: Like gire exallant Okay, Okay, So like Alexander great example
- 41:43Speaker 3: of like what we're looking at here. I almost compare
- 41:46Speaker 3: him with CJ. Gardner Johnson who came in Alexander from
- 41:50Speaker 3: one understand is a real knucklehead, right, So it was CJ.
- 41:54Speaker 3: And you know it's he's proven it multiple times since
- 41:58Speaker 3: he's left the Eagles. But he basically has to do
- 42:02Speaker 3: his job for three months.
- 42:05Speaker 2: Yeah three months.
- 42:07Speaker 3: I've been working for twenty five fucking years, okay or
- 42:10Speaker 3: whatever it is. He has to behave himself and work
- 42:13Speaker 3: his balls off for awesome franchise for three three and
- 42:18Speaker 3: a half months to make another like monster contract, right right,
- 42:21Speaker 3: if he's smart about this, And I like those odds
- 42:26Speaker 3: because they basically gave up nothing for him because there's
- 42:29Speaker 3: big like off the scrap heap and that that's the
- 42:34Speaker 3: kind of moves of how he makes him like that
- 42:37Speaker 3: is smart because if he if he fucks off and
- 42:40Speaker 3: like starts to mess with the chemistry of the team,
- 42:42Speaker 3: just you're gone. You're easy, Like, yeah, we don't owe
- 42:45Speaker 3: you anything, just go yep ye. Same with MC two
- 42:48Speaker 3: whatever we're calling him now he equals MC two like that. Yeah,
- 42:54Speaker 3: Like no player is like is a problem financially and
- 43:00Speaker 3: it doesn't work out, you just you just cut them
- 43:03Speaker 3: like who cares. But the upside is like they're huge
- 43:05Speaker 3: contributors on a team. They're also coming from teams that's
- 43:08Speaker 3: like not winning. Yeah, like I know the Ravens are good,
- 43:13Speaker 3: but like all these tef you add the records from
- 43:14Speaker 3: the Jets, Ravens, Dolphins, they're coming to a winning franchise,
- 43:18Speaker 3: just the one in the Super Bowl. Yeah, they might
- 43:20Speaker 3: want to actually fucking try exactly hard, exactly And we're
- 43:23Speaker 3: not paying anything.
- 43:24Speaker 1: To be to be to be with one of the
- 43:26Speaker 1: top teams in the league. And you're gonna have pressure
- 43:28Speaker 1: with some of the other guys and some of the
- 43:30Speaker 1: veterans on this team to say, you know what, we've
- 43:33Speaker 1: built this here. You fucking do what you need to
- 43:35Speaker 1: do or you're out here and we're gonna we're gonna
- 43:38Speaker 1: help actually get your hell out of here.
- 43:40Speaker 2: If you don't.
- 43:41Speaker 3: You think Jalen card is gonna take any ship?
- 43:43Speaker 2: Yeah, I know.
- 43:44Speaker 1: Three you guys like, Oh, I love it, I love it.
- 43:50Speaker 1: I love what's happening with this Eagles team. We're gonna
- 43:52Speaker 1: have our post game show after the Monday night football
- 43:55Speaker 1: game against the Packers. Uh, go back on the feed,
- 43:58Speaker 1: listen to the opposition terrorits where we dove into the
- 44:01Speaker 1: matchup Eagles Packers Monday night. You got anything else, buddy?
- 44:05Speaker 1: Before we get to thrown down on the table in
- 44:08Speaker 1: our interview this week.
- 44:10Speaker 2: Let's go Flyers.
- 44:12Speaker 1: Yeah, let's do it.
- 44:16Speaker 3: That's it. Because it's eleven thirty at night.
- 44:18Speaker 2: It is. I'm a tired boy. I'm a tired boy.
- 44:21Speaker 2: You're a tired boy.
- 44:23Speaker 3: We gotta stop talking for an hour for the show.
- 44:25Speaker 2: I know, we really do, We really, we really hand
- 44:27Speaker 2: it up. We really do. All right, buddy, I'll let
- 44:30Speaker 2: you go, folks. We can take a break. We get back.
- 44:32Speaker 1: We got Brandon Leyguten from Bleedinggreennation dot com gonna dive
- 44:36Speaker 1: into some more Eagles talk stick.
- 44:37Speaker 3: With us and now on the table.
- 44:44Speaker 1: All right, joining us to dive into this Philadelphia Eagles
- 44:47Speaker 1: team as they are coming off their bye week week ten.
- 44:50Speaker 1: Right around the corner here, we've got our good friend
- 44:52Speaker 1: from Bleedinggreennation dot com. Fantastic website, always great content with
- 44:56Speaker 1: regarding the Philadelphia Eagles, Brandon Leeguten BLG. Hey, buddy, thanks
- 45:00Speaker 1: so much for taking the time to jump on. Really
- 45:02Speaker 1: appreciate it, my friend.
- 45:04Speaker 4: Always happy to be here.
- 45:05Speaker 1: It is I think a good place that this Philadelphia
- 45:09Speaker 1: Eagles team is in right now. After that really nice
- 45:11Speaker 1: victory over the New York Giants, they got the bye week,
- 45:15Speaker 1: some guys on this team are able to get healthy.
- 45:18Speaker 1: But in the meantime here holy freaking crap trades, trades
- 45:22Speaker 1: and more trades. My co host and I we dove
- 45:26Speaker 1: into some of these trades that Howie Roseman has made
- 45:28Speaker 1: this past week here, and I'd love to get your
- 45:31Speaker 1: take on what these trades have are going to end
- 45:35Speaker 1: up meaning to this Philadelphia Eagles team. Here, Brandon Graham,
- 45:39Speaker 1: as we know, is coming back as well, So let's start.
- 45:42Speaker 2: Let's start with Brandon Graham here.
- 45:43Speaker 1: You know, what kind of productivity do you think he's
- 45:45Speaker 1: gonna bring to the defensive front when he takes the field.
- 45:47Speaker 1: We know he's older, we know what his history is,
- 45:49Speaker 1: but really like that impact that he's gonna have. What
- 45:52Speaker 1: do you think about it, BLG.
- 45:54Speaker 4: Yeah, as Howie Rosemand mentioned in his post NFL trade
- 45:58Speaker 4: deadline press conference on too, you know, Brandy Graham has
- 46:01Speaker 4: been working out for a bit here, So it's not
- 46:04Speaker 4: just like you know, oh, he's coming off the couch.
- 46:06Speaker 4: He hasn't been working out at all. So I have
- 46:09Speaker 4: high expectations for him relative to, you know, a player
- 46:13Speaker 4: who is unretiring and the fact that he was looking
- 46:16Speaker 4: great before he got hurt last year. He didn't retire
- 46:19Speaker 4: because he couldn't play anymore. That was not the situation.
- 46:22Speaker 4: He retired in part because the Eagles were like, this
- 46:24Speaker 4: is too good of a story for you to go
- 46:26Speaker 4: out on top. Yeah, you should probably just leave now.
- 46:28Speaker 4: It's not that we don't want you, and Fangio very
- 46:30Speaker 4: much did want Brandy Graham to return. It's just that
- 46:33Speaker 4: they thought it'd be better, you know, if they could
- 46:35Speaker 4: ride with the youth, and probably in the back of
- 46:37Speaker 4: their minds are thinking, well, if we need Brandy Graham
- 46:39Speaker 4: next season, maybe he can come out of retirement. Ye,
- 46:41Speaker 4: and that's the case, So I do think he can
- 46:43Speaker 4: help this defense in a rotational role.
- 46:46Speaker 1: What about Michael Carter the second in terms of this
- 46:48Speaker 1: defense here? I was I was actually a little surprised
- 46:51Speaker 1: when I saw this trade initially, but as you know,
- 46:54Speaker 1: we're reading about it more, you know, you listen to
- 46:56Speaker 1: some analysts more kind of making sense as a potential, uh,
- 47:01Speaker 1: piece of the puzzle. I guess we could say, what's
- 47:04Speaker 1: your thought about Michael Carter the second here?
- 47:06Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm gonna loop him into Alexander and say that
- 47:09Speaker 4: this is this is kind of a strategy of I
- 47:12Speaker 4: think Kylie Roseman throwing spaghetti, let's say, at the wall
- 47:15Speaker 4: until something sticks. And I really just think it's about
- 47:19Speaker 4: the optionality. I don't think the eals are acquired Carter
- 47:22Speaker 4: or Alexander with the thought that, oh, this guy, either
- 47:25Speaker 4: of them is definitely going to start for us, or
- 47:28Speaker 4: he's definitely going to have this role, as much as
- 47:31Speaker 4: it's like, well, we can figure things out here, and
- 47:34Speaker 4: maybe they'll have a role if kiey Ringo and or
- 47:37Speaker 4: Jacoreyan Bettett don't step up on the outside. If they do, great,
- 47:41Speaker 4: and you have depth behind them, which you need for sure.
- 47:44Speaker 4: But either I really think legals do not want to
- 47:47Speaker 4: move Cooper to Gene out of the nickel right, and
- 47:50Speaker 4: Pig Fangio has said as much. But I think there's
- 47:53Speaker 4: a world where they just might have to do that
- 47:55Speaker 4: at some point, and I think that would be the
- 47:57Speaker 4: last resort, but they might reach your last resort, and
- 48:00Speaker 4: if that's the case, you maybe Carter really steps up
- 48:03Speaker 4: and it's him you can have in the slot when
- 48:05Speaker 4: you move the Gene to the outside. It's really not
- 48:09Speaker 4: clear to me at this time that those guys are
- 48:11Speaker 4: gonna have a role, but I do think they acquired
- 48:13Speaker 4: them with the potential that they could if they need.
- 48:16Speaker 2: To really quick.
- 48:17Speaker 1: How much input do you think Vic Fangio had in
- 48:20Speaker 1: terms of acquiring both of those secondary pieces, because I
- 48:23Speaker 1: would imagine how he probably went to him saying, you know,
- 48:26Speaker 1: is this going to potentially fit? Are the talent that
- 48:29Speaker 1: these guys have, are they going to be able to
- 48:32Speaker 1: be those puzzle pieces? I would imagine Vic probably had
- 48:36Speaker 1: some sort of say and in some way, shape or
- 48:38Speaker 1: form with bringing this talent to the team.
- 48:40Speaker 2: Correct.
- 48:42Speaker 4: You would think from a standpoint of why wouldn't you
- 48:44Speaker 4: lean on Vic Fangio when he's earned the benefit of
- 48:46Speaker 4: the doubt. At the same time, Vic will tell you
- 48:49Speaker 4: his role is minuscule. Yes, I don't fully believe. I
- 48:53Speaker 4: think more so, you know, with Carter, you look at
- 48:56Speaker 4: the fact that he has a relationship with the Eagle
- 49:00Speaker 4: safeties coach Joe Casper. Obviously, he was drafted by Joe Douglas,
- 49:05Speaker 4: former Jets general manager, now back with the Eagles in
- 49:08Speaker 4: their front office, so you know there's some familiarity there.
- 49:11Speaker 4: With Alexander, it's Christian Parker, the Egles defensive backs coach,
- 49:14Speaker 4: who he worked with in Green Bay. So I do
- 49:17Speaker 4: think they definitely relied on that familiarity. And again that's
- 49:21Speaker 4: something how he actually basically confirmed and talked about in
- 49:24Speaker 4: his press conference that those relationships were important here because
- 49:27Speaker 4: it's not just about, you know, the on field talent
- 49:30Speaker 4: as much as it's also the personality and those kind
- 49:32Speaker 4: of people that you're bringing into your locker room. And
- 49:35Speaker 4: you don't always know what to expect when you have
- 49:37Speaker 4: a player coming in on short notice midseason, but with
- 49:40Speaker 4: these guys, they have some level of familiarity with what
- 49:42Speaker 4: they're all about.
- 49:44Speaker 1: Finally, Jalen Phillips couldn't believe it when I got when
- 49:47Speaker 1: I saw the chefter tweet.
- 49:48Speaker 2: I come across my feed only.
- 49:50Speaker 1: Cow Jalen Phillips and what he's going to give this
- 49:54Speaker 1: pass rush. What are your thoughts here at your take
- 49:56Speaker 1: on him, what he's going to bring to this defense.
- 49:59Speaker 4: It's really not fun to talk about from like, well,
- 50:02Speaker 4: if he stays healthy, because that's the key, if he
- 50:05Speaker 4: stays because if he's hurt, I mean, the egles good
- 50:08Speaker 4: trade a third round pick for this guy makes all
- 50:10Speaker 4: the sense in the world in terms of the talent
- 50:11Speaker 4: the upside. If he gets hurt and he's not able
- 50:14Speaker 4: to play much, that's tough, and that's the risks they're taking.
- 50:17Speaker 4: They're going into this knowing that that could easily be
- 50:20Speaker 4: the case, given his track record, given his history. But
- 50:24Speaker 4: there's times where you have to take a chance, and
- 50:26Speaker 4: obviously injuries can happen to anyone, so you kind of
- 50:29Speaker 4: just have to get a little bit lucky there. It's
- 50:32Speaker 4: not like they're banking their entire hopes of the past
- 50:35Speaker 4: for us just on Jalen Phillips, but for them to
- 50:37Speaker 4: be better as a unit than they were in the
- 50:40Speaker 4: first half of the season. He has to be a
- 50:41Speaker 4: big part of that. And again, the upside is there.
- 50:44Speaker 4: I like the fact that he brings something to the
- 50:47Speaker 4: table they don't have in terms of just the size.
- 50:49Speaker 4: You know, he's like this. They have a lot of
- 50:51Speaker 4: smaller as rushers.
- 50:52Speaker 2: They do.
- 50:53Speaker 4: I mean in Brendan Graham is more stout than the others.
- 50:55Speaker 4: But Jalen Phillips is someone, you know, the six six frame,
- 50:59Speaker 4: the athleticism that he brings to the table. I like that.
- 51:02Speaker 4: I like the fact that I remember back watching the
- 51:04Speaker 4: Eagles practice against the Dolphins in twenty twenty two down
- 51:07Speaker 4: in Miami. I was at that joint training camp practice
- 51:10Speaker 4: and Jealen Phillips really stood out that day in a
- 51:12Speaker 4: day where the Miami Dolphins defense gave problems to or
- 51:15Speaker 4: give the Eagles offense problems in that practice. So I
- 51:21Speaker 4: definitely think it's just a matter of can he stay healthy?
- 51:25Speaker 2: All right? Very good?
- 51:26Speaker 1: Well, look, when we did our Eagles season preview and
- 51:29Speaker 1: we talked about some concerns with regard to the Eagles
- 51:33Speaker 1: defensive front here, I wanted to kind of dive into
- 51:37Speaker 1: this passwords rush situation a little bit more.
- 51:40Speaker 2: Now.
- 51:40Speaker 1: I mean Nolan Smith, his practice window is now opened.
- 51:43Speaker 1: We're gonna be seeing him sooner rather than later. But
- 51:46Speaker 1: I think from a more macro perspective, BLG, I'm wondering,
- 51:50Speaker 1: are we going to see greater I guess we would say,
- 51:52Speaker 1: quote dominance by the defensive line like we saw last season,
- 51:57Speaker 1: or is it going to take some time for all
- 51:58Speaker 1: of these entities and the talent on this team and
- 52:02Speaker 1: the defensive front to really start meshing with each other,
- 52:04Speaker 1: whether it's Jalen Phillips, Brandon Graham getting back into the
- 52:07Speaker 1: fold here. What are your thoughts here?
- 52:13Speaker 4: It kind of reminds me of the outlook going into
- 52:16Speaker 4: this season in terms of just there aren't proven commodities here.
- 52:19Speaker 4: There's more than there was relative to the beginning of
- 52:21Speaker 4: the season when you bring in Brandon Graham and Jalen Phillips,
- 52:24Speaker 4: assuming he stays healthy, but you're still kind of talking
- 52:26Speaker 4: about upside like Nolan Smith has to be able to contribute,
- 52:31Speaker 4: and I have hope that he can do that based
- 52:35Speaker 4: on the potential we've seen, but again, needs to stay healthy,
- 52:39Speaker 4: needs to pick up where he left off in terms
- 52:41Speaker 4: of being hot down the stretch last season. You'll see
- 52:44Speaker 4: if he can do that. Jalenx Hunt quieter starts the
- 52:48Speaker 4: season playing better in these past two games. Kenny continue
- 52:52Speaker 4: to keep that going. He might be able to, but
- 52:54Speaker 4: it's just not a given given how young these players
- 52:56Speaker 4: are and how they aren't necessarily, you know, maybe even
- 53:00Speaker 4: close to reaching their ceilings where they are in their development.
- 53:04Speaker 4: So I have hope for that unit. I think there's potential.
- 53:07Speaker 4: I like the one through five rotation that they could have,
- 53:11Speaker 4: but it's not something where I can just bank on
- 53:13Speaker 4: it as much as you're you're looking at the upside,
- 53:16Speaker 4: but there's also downside as well, where maybe Brandon Graham
- 53:19Speaker 4: looks like a player who came out of retirement, maybe
- 53:21Speaker 4: Jalen Phillips can't stay healthy, maybe Nolan Smith can't stay healthy,
- 53:24Speaker 4: maybe jals Hunt is not quite a starter, just a
- 53:27Speaker 4: solid rotational third guy in the edge rotation. And then
- 53:29Speaker 4: josh Uja, who's had some moments. You know, he's a
- 53:32Speaker 4: part time player for a reason. There's upside and there's downside.
- 53:35Speaker 1: Absolutely not any givens here with this Eagles defense, and
- 53:38Speaker 1: there's no given with regard to the secondary, which is
- 53:41Speaker 1: what you were essentially saying at the top of our conversation.
- 53:44Speaker 1: BLG because I want to dive into the secondary a
- 53:47Speaker 1: little bit more because with the trade editions of Jay
- 53:50Speaker 1: R Alexander and Michael Carter. The second I'm wondering, should
- 53:53Speaker 1: we assume that a Dori Jackson and Kielley Ringo that
- 53:56Speaker 1: those experiments might be over? I mean, is there going
- 54:00Speaker 1: to be a shuffling more that we're going to see?
- 54:03Speaker 1: How does that even relate to the consistency or a
- 54:06Speaker 1: lack of consistency with regard to the secondary in the
- 54:09Speaker 1: cornerback position here. I mean, I'm wondering, how do you
- 54:12Speaker 1: see this puzzle kind of coming together for the secondary here?
- 54:15Speaker 4: Yeah, So we'll have to see where Jackson is out
- 54:18Speaker 4: coming out of the bye week. Obviously, he missed the
- 54:20Speaker 4: Eagles last game with the concussion that seemed to be like,
- 54:24Speaker 4: not that any concussion is you know, something to take lightly.
- 54:27Speaker 4: That seemed like a pretty bad, you know one, especially
- 54:30Speaker 4: the way Jackson left that game. So I don't even
- 54:33Speaker 4: know if he's going to be able to play against
- 54:35Speaker 4: the Packers. We'll see on that one. He could be
- 54:38Speaker 4: back in the starting mix maybe if he is healthy
- 54:40Speaker 4: this week. You have Keethey Ringo there, thought he had
- 54:44Speaker 4: a good game against the Giants. At the same time,
- 54:46Speaker 4: the Giants might have the worst receiving corps in the
- 54:49Speaker 4: NFL based before the trade deadline they did, so I
- 54:53Speaker 4: don't know what to really make of that moving forward.
- 54:55Speaker 4: You know, it's better to see that than not. But
- 54:58Speaker 4: I don't just trust keey Ringo. I don't think he goals.
- 55:00Speaker 4: Just trust keithy Ringo implicitly all of a sudden so
- 55:04Speaker 4: and then you have Jacoryan Bennett. He has activated his
- 55:06Speaker 4: practice window before the buye. I think they would like
- 55:10Speaker 4: to take a look at him at some point and
- 55:11Speaker 4: see what he can do, you know, like when you
- 55:13Speaker 4: make that trade and you have a need at cornerback there,
- 55:16Speaker 4: give him a shot, see what he can do at
- 55:18Speaker 4: some point. But to count on him, you know, as
- 55:21Speaker 4: a surefire option. There's there's no great answer here. I
- 55:25Speaker 4: think it's just a matter of kind of continuing to
- 55:28Speaker 4: experiment here with these different options, see what works. And
- 55:32Speaker 4: maybe they're not going to find it all pro they'reler
- 55:36Speaker 4: from what they have, But it's just about finding someone
- 55:38Speaker 4: who you can at least get by with.
- 55:40Speaker 1: And I think we got to trust Vic Fangio too.
- 55:42Speaker 1: I mean, you essentially said that at the top. I
- 55:43Speaker 1: think that's going to be a key piece of this
- 55:47Speaker 1: defense moving forward, trusting Vic Fangio for sure. Folks, Again,
- 55:51Speaker 1: we're talking to brand lea go Out and BLG from
- 55:52Speaker 1: Bleeding Green Nation dot com at Brandon Gouton on Twitter
- 55:56Speaker 1: slash x. He's also I know over on threads as well.
- 55:59Speaker 1: And with that being said, real quick, we're going to
- 56:01Speaker 1: take a break, folks, and when we get back, we're
- 56:03Speaker 1: going to dive into this Eagles offense a bit. So
- 56:06Speaker 1: stick with us, all right. We're back with our buddy
- 56:12Speaker 1: Branding Lee go Out and BLG from Bleedinggreen Nation dot
- 56:15Speaker 1: com and wanted to dive into what we may be
- 56:17Speaker 1: seeing from the rushing attack here because we were talking
- 56:21Speaker 1: about the defense. The offense obviously just as important. I
- 56:24Speaker 1: remember us again talking during our Eagle season preview with
- 56:28Speaker 1: you about how Saquon was absolutely going to eat this year.
- 56:31Speaker 1: You and I were under the impression that, you know, what,
- 56:33Speaker 1: everything is in place for him to replicate what he
- 56:35Speaker 1: did last season. But I don't think you, myself, anyone
- 56:40Speaker 1: else who was in that frame of mind thought that
- 56:44Speaker 1: the offensive line would have the struggles and the challenges
- 56:46Speaker 1: that it did earlier this season. So how do you
- 56:50Speaker 1: see the rushing attack possibly altering based on what's happening
- 56:54Speaker 1: with the offensive line at this point.
- 56:56Speaker 2: BLG.
- 56:57Speaker 4: Yeah, I'll tell you one thing I do regret and
- 56:59Speaker 4: one thing I don't regret regarding being really optimistic about
- 57:03Speaker 4: the Eagles running game in twenty twenty five. The thing
- 57:05Speaker 4: I don't regret is feeling good about Saquon Barkley. I
- 57:10Speaker 4: think he's looks great all year like in terms of
- 57:12Speaker 4: him and what he can control. I don't think he
- 57:15Speaker 4: looks like he lost a step by any means. And
- 57:18Speaker 4: part of the reason why I was high on him
- 57:19Speaker 4: going into the season was he looked great in training
- 57:22Speaker 4: camp in the offseason. He looked like maybe even better
- 57:24Speaker 4: than he did last year.
- 57:26Speaker 2: We talked about that.
- 57:27Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, absolutely, so I don't regret being bullish on that,
- 57:30Speaker 4: and as we just saw in Egles last game against
- 57:32Speaker 4: the Giants, still looks pretty good when it can get
- 57:34Speaker 4: him daylight. It's just a matter of the blocking giving
- 57:38Speaker 4: him at least some space and not letting him get
- 57:41Speaker 4: hit repeatedly in the backfield like they have. I think
- 57:44Speaker 4: the one thing I do regret is kind of thinking
- 57:47Speaker 4: about the toll that those extreme workloads take on running
- 57:53Speaker 4: backs and maybe not thinking about how that could apply
- 57:55Speaker 4: to the offensive line and the people blocking for him.
- 57:58Speaker 3: A great point.
- 57:59Speaker 4: Yeah, that point really has taken a toll on these
- 58:02Speaker 4: offensive linemen. Jordan Malata has talked about it. He said
- 58:04Speaker 4: that he really didn't feel like in most seasons. After
- 58:08Speaker 4: the season ends, he said maybe a week, a couple
- 58:10Speaker 4: of weeks, he starts to feel like himself again. It
- 58:13Speaker 4: is feeling better this offseason. He said it took way
- 58:15Speaker 4: longer than it did any off season before for him
- 58:18Speaker 4: to start feeling like himself again. And then he just
- 58:21Speaker 4: even saw it with Landon Dickerson being banged up like
- 58:23Speaker 4: he was late last year. Cam Jurgens same thing off
- 58:27Speaker 4: season surgery. Lane Johnson has missed some time this season.
- 58:30Speaker 4: The only guy who hasn't really as much, Tyler Stem.
- 58:33Speaker 4: Tyler would a back up last year exactly, it didn't
- 58:36Speaker 4: have to take that workload. So I absolutely think there's
- 58:38Speaker 4: something to that. I don't think the bye week magically
- 58:41Speaker 4: fixes everything, but it does allow a chance for these
- 58:44Speaker 4: guys to get healthier than they were and have them
- 58:47Speaker 4: feeling better then that they were, So I think that
- 58:50Speaker 4: is a point of optimism, you know, moving forward, that
- 58:54Speaker 4: they could be healthier, they could be at their healthiest
- 58:56Speaker 4: coming out of this extra rest here. At the same time,
- 59:00Speaker 4: you know, they could just be in a spot where
- 59:02Speaker 4: they're not quite the players they were last year because
- 59:05Speaker 4: of that massive workload.
- 59:06Speaker 1: Absolutely, folks, go back in the feed check out our
- 59:08Speaker 1: Opposition Territory show where we talked to Evan TeX's Western
- 59:12Speaker 1: from ACME Packingcompany dot Com to dive into this upcoming matchup.
- 59:16Speaker 1: We specifically got into the Eagles offensive line, how it
- 59:19Speaker 1: would be matching up against the Packers defensive line, how
- 59:22Speaker 1: the trenches are going to look like. Go back in
- 59:24Speaker 1: the feed check that out. It was a great, great discussion. So, buddy,
- 59:27Speaker 1: before I let you go, I want to just talk
- 59:30Speaker 1: about real quick at two part question the biggest weaknesses
- 59:33Speaker 1: on this team, the biggest strengths on this Eagles team
- 59:36Speaker 1: as we're heading into this second half of the season here,
- 59:38Speaker 1: let's start with the weaknesses of this team.
- 59:41Speaker 2: What do you think the biggest weakness of this team is.
- 59:44Speaker 4: I think we hit on it. I think it's cornerback too. Yeah,
- 59:47Speaker 4: that's just going back to training camp. You know, that's
- 59:50Speaker 4: just been an area where it seems like they're just
- 59:53Speaker 4: really struggling to find an answer. I was actually thinking
- 59:56Speaker 4: about it earlier, and I was thinking kind of reminds
- 59:58Speaker 4: me a little bit of in twenty twenty three. They
- 1:00:00Speaker 4: could just not solve that Nickel cornerback spot, especially after
- 1:00:04Speaker 4: Vonte Maddix went down. You can try a lot of
- 1:00:06Speaker 4: different things, just could not find the answer. And while
- 1:00:10Speaker 4: I do think it's fair to wonder if the Eagles
- 1:00:12Speaker 4: could have brought back you know, Isaiah Rodgers, I absolutely
- 1:00:14Speaker 4: think that could be a fair criticism of Howie Roseman.
- 1:00:17Speaker 4: In general, it's hard to look at a roster in
- 1:00:20Speaker 4: the NFL and not find a team that has weak
- 1:00:23Speaker 4: spots at multiple points. So the fact that the Eagles,
- 1:00:26Speaker 4: you know, are in the spot where they have this weakness, like,
- 1:00:28Speaker 4: it's easy for us to be like, well, how do
- 1:00:30Speaker 4: they not fix that? And that's gonna be an issue,
- 1:00:32Speaker 4: and honestly, to be like, it could unseat their season,
- 1:00:35Speaker 4: It could be assue in the playoffs where they just
- 1:00:37Speaker 4: don't have an answer there and they get killed. That's
- 1:00:40Speaker 4: kind of just life, though. I think that's life in
- 1:00:41Speaker 4: the NFL. When you have limited resources, you're not gonna
- 1:00:43Speaker 4: have a pro bowler every position, so it's tough. I
- 1:00:47Speaker 4: think the hope is that they added some options here
- 1:00:49Speaker 4: they can experiment with. In addition, when you're boosting the
- 1:00:54Speaker 4: pass rush, maybe that helps out those cornerbacks and kind
- 1:00:56Speaker 4: of you know, is not putting as much of a
- 1:00:58Speaker 4: burden on them.
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: But what do you think the biggest strength is on
- 1:01:01Speaker 2: this team?
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: And I'm wondering if we are feeling the same thing
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: because this team does have a lot of strengths. It
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: really does, you know, as a challenging as the first
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: half of the season was. And yes, they are at
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: the top of the NFC here and one of those
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: teams that is going to be a contender at this
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: particular point in time. There's a lot of strengths here.
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: What's the one strength that you're really honing in on
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: here during the second half of the season.
- 1:01:23Speaker 4: I'm gonna go with the quarterbacking save here. Yes, I
- 1:01:27Speaker 4: mean he is playing the two games going into the
- 1:01:30Speaker 4: by really really good football there potentially has turned to
- 1:01:35Speaker 4: corner I don't think he's had a bad season by
- 1:01:37Speaker 4: any means. No, it's kind of been a weird season.
- 1:01:39Speaker 3: I think the.
- 1:01:40Speaker 4: Giants game, the first one was certainly his worst game
- 1:01:42Speaker 4: of the season, and at times, you know, there's been
- 1:01:45Speaker 4: certain halves of games where he hasn't been quite there
- 1:01:50Speaker 4: and weird because like, for example, the first half of
- 1:01:53Speaker 4: that Buccaneers game, I think that was one of the
- 1:01:55Speaker 4: best first halves of his entire career, maybe the best.
- 1:01:57Speaker 4: Then second half, you know, maybe not so much. So
- 1:02:01Speaker 4: we need to see you more consistency moving forward. But
- 1:02:04Speaker 4: I think overall the through line through the season, I
- 1:02:07Speaker 4: think there's a level of trust that the Eagles actually
- 1:02:10Speaker 4: need to have more in Dalen Hurts and empower him
- 1:02:12Speaker 4: and lean into that. With his ability to take care
- 1:02:15Speaker 4: of the football, it's kind of a great sense of
- 1:02:18Speaker 4: where to go with it and also not putting it
- 1:02:20Speaker 4: in the harm's way and just feeling in control of
- 1:02:22Speaker 4: the offense, I think more than ever. And I think
- 1:02:24Speaker 4: that's kind of something you see, you know, with a
- 1:02:26Speaker 4: quarterback who is aging more and getting more experience and
- 1:02:30Speaker 4: kind of building that comfort level and maybe whereas he
- 1:02:34Speaker 4: might not be the same runner that he was when
- 1:02:36Speaker 4: he entered the league in his young twenties, he's kind
- 1:02:38Speaker 4: of making looking up for that little bit more with
- 1:02:42Speaker 4: his what he's able to shoulders there. So I think
- 1:02:46Speaker 4: Jalen Hurts is a big reason of optimism, not only
- 1:02:49Speaker 4: in terms of how he's playing now, but obviously as
- 1:02:51Speaker 4: we've seen, he is a playoff riser. So as long
- 1:02:53Speaker 4: as the Eagles can get into the postseason and being
- 1:02:56Speaker 4: a relatively decent spot there, which right now, knock on wood,
- 1:02:58Speaker 4: they're looking at a really good position to win their division.
- 1:03:02Speaker 4: I know there's no kin at NFC East repeat winners
- 1:03:05Speaker 4: in over twenty years here, but Eagles aren't a good
- 1:03:08Speaker 4: spot to do that, and I feel good about him
- 1:03:10Speaker 4: once you do get to the postseason and he even
- 1:03:13Speaker 4: raises his performance even more.
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: In eight games, He's got a seventy point two completion percentage,
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: fifteen touchdowns, only one interception. He's not turning the ball over.
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: That's what you want from your quarterback in the NFL
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: in this day and age. So that being said, folks,
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: he is Brandon Lee Gouten BLG from Bleedinggreen Nation dot com.
