- 0:00Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, please be upstanding. He has arrived, Colonel
- 0:05Speaker 1: Sergeant Private Paul Marriage from the Croatian Legion Army, and
- 0:11Speaker 1: he's arriving on.
- 0:12Speaker 2: The back of his fucking hum V. I knew you'd
- 0:17Speaker 2: like that.
- 0:18Speaker 1: I know during the pandemic that you were locked away,
- 0:21Speaker 1: you were a bow and now you've bought an ex
- 0:26Speaker 1: army car.
- 0:26Speaker 2: Are you starting your own army? I don't comment on
- 0:29Speaker 2: future invasions. Is that what you said?
- 0:32Speaker 1: You all?
- 0:34Speaker 2: Do you say? Darling? Tonight I will be invading.
- 0:38Speaker 1: The tiny island of Crete.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Yes, so Gordy is referring to the hum V that
- 0:45Speaker 2: I bought, and you can have a look at my
- 0:47Speaker 2: socials for that. Why did I buy it? The answer
- 0:49Speaker 2: to that is I was bored during COVID. Was it
- 0:52Speaker 2: a good idea? No? Was it expensive yes? Yes? Has
- 0:56Speaker 2: it been more expensive that I thought it would be? Yes?
- 0:58Speaker 2: And did I get ripped off by people in Australia? Yes?
- 1:01Speaker 2: But also why? Like honestly and I just always wanted one?
- 1:05Speaker 1: I know, but I feel like this is this hasn't
- 1:07Speaker 1: been answered properly in any of your content. There hasn't
- 1:10Speaker 1: really been like a why it's just been because I
- 1:13Speaker 1: felt like it, because.
- 1:14Speaker 2: I wanted to. Why did you buy super ap back?
- 1:16Speaker 1: Well, they're both big green tanks.
- 1:19Speaker 2: I bought a green new I always wanted a green You. Yeah,
- 1:22Speaker 2: what are you gonna do? You're gonna pop down the
- 1:23Speaker 2: shops with that thing? Probably not? Are you going to
- 1:26Speaker 2: entirely inconvenient to drive? The mirrors are terrible. You can't
- 1:29Speaker 2: see out the back of it or the front of it.
- 1:31Speaker 2: It's wider than a lane. It doesn't really go well
- 1:34Speaker 2: in car parks. It has no features. It's highly unsafe.
- 1:39Speaker 1: Well, it's got features, but it comes with some sort
- 1:42Speaker 1: of ammunition and reloading feature.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Yeah, anyway, but it's cool. I love it, So check
- 1:48Speaker 2: out the video YouTube if you haven't seen that yet.
- 1:50Speaker 1: Anyway, when you in the sequel of The hurt Locker,
- 1:54Speaker 1: yes very soon. I watched that yesterday. Have you seen
- 1:58Speaker 1: that movie? Oh my god, you're humb's in it? Yeah? Yeah, yeah,
- 2:04Speaker 1: but it is incredible. It's set during the Iraq War.
- 2:08Speaker 1: Just watch it. It's probably one of the most eye
- 2:10Speaker 1: opening accounts of war that I think you'll say sounds serious.
- 2:17Speaker 1: It's a touching story about a boy and his dog.
- 2:22Speaker 1: What else has been going on in your life.
- 2:24Speaker 2: Not too much. I actually ran into someone the other
- 2:26Speaker 2: day and I asked them if they'd be on the
- 2:28Speaker 2: show today.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, by one of your friends.
- 2:31Speaker 2: They're going to be coming in very soon. You may
- 2:33Speaker 2: have heard of him. Oh, they're coming in yeah today.
- 2:37Speaker 2: So clear your stuff, clean the desk and stuff. Okay,
- 2:42Speaker 2: do something please.
- 2:43Speaker 1: I have my briefcase full of shredded newspaper, which is
- 2:48Speaker 1: just the receipts from our law case. Well, okay, so
- 2:54Speaker 1: someone's coming up.
- 2:55Speaker 2: Yeah, so it is. Actually I won't even tell you
- 2:57Speaker 2: who it is. You've probably already seen it in the title,
- 3:00Speaker 2: but just have a listen to their voice and see
- 3:01Speaker 2: if you can figure out who it is if you
- 3:02Speaker 2: didn't bother reading the title. Okay, after we speak with
- 3:07Speaker 2: him as well. By the way, I run through some
- 3:09Speaker 2: feedback that we got, and there is I think we
- 3:12Speaker 2: have a stalker. Oh I like them. I think we
- 3:15Speaker 2: have a stork. Is it female? Probably not, just judging
- 3:20Speaker 2: by everyone that listens to this problem.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Can you imagine can you imagine if we had like
- 3:25Speaker 1: female fans love the way you talk about cars.
- 3:28Speaker 2: Boys.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Actually, the woman who sent us the hugo is female.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Oh, there you go.
- 3:32Speaker 3: Yeah, well she is from the country of I am
- 3:37Speaker 3: a man, but I compete on the woman's swimming team.
- 3:43Speaker 1: I also used the date Paul marriage.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Any who, any of them?
- 3:51Speaker 1: Right, Well, so we have a guest coming up. You've
- 3:54Speaker 1: got a hum vy. I still don't have my outback.
- 3:59Speaker 1: Everything in the world, world is as it should be.
- 4:02Speaker 1: Should we just get into our let's do that if
- 4:04Speaker 1: you bring him in, Come on in, mate, take a seat.
- 4:09Speaker 1: You know, when you said you're going to bring in
- 4:10Speaker 1: one of your mates, I thought, oh God, here we go.
- 4:13Speaker 1: Because I thought it's just going to be one of
- 4:15Speaker 1: your engineering forty year old virgins.
- 4:20Speaker 2: And I was going to say, that's so far, you're
- 4:22Speaker 2: pretty pretty close twenty years.
- 4:26Speaker 1: But then John Kiddogan's just walked in, and now I'm
- 4:30Speaker 1: slightly nervous.
- 4:31Speaker 4: Yeah, I have that effect.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Welcome buddy, Thanks for coming in mate.
- 4:34Speaker 4: It's a pleasure to be here. It's a long time
- 4:36Speaker 4: since I've done this kind of thing.
- 4:38Speaker 1: Yeah, right, Well, because people would know you obviously from
- 4:42Speaker 1: YouTube primarily, and I wanted to get a bit of
- 4:45Speaker 1: a backstory in that because one of the things I
- 4:48Speaker 1: love about your content is agree with it or disagree
- 4:51Speaker 1: with it. You've always got an opinion, and what I
- 4:55Speaker 1: love is you've always got an intelligent argument for that opinion.
- 5:00Speaker 2: You agree with it or not. You know, here's the.
- 5:03Speaker 4: Thing, right, if you watch the news like you watch
- 5:05Speaker 4: seven news, nine news, doesn't matter, You've got no idea
- 5:08Speaker 4: what the host ever thinks or any of the reporters, right,
- 5:12Speaker 4: and that's why you disengaged from it. They're talking about
- 5:15Speaker 4: some car that drove through a fence in Adelaide because
- 5:18Speaker 4: it's a slow news day, right, But you've got no
- 5:21Speaker 4: idea what anyone really thinks, Like what does Mark Ferguson
- 5:25Speaker 4: really think about that? No one knows. He specifically trained
- 5:29Speaker 4: not to have a view. And it's a complete mechanism
- 5:31Speaker 4: for disengagement. So what I do is I use all
- 5:35Speaker 4: of the dirty tricks that you learn in news and
- 5:36Speaker 4: current affairs, Like I can read the prompter endlessly without
- 5:40Speaker 4: flipping over my tongue, but I invert the medium by
- 5:44Speaker 4: injecting what I really think into it. And it's quite disorienting.
- 5:46Speaker 4: But people can't put their finger on why.
- 5:48Speaker 1: It is interesting because you sort of think back in
- 5:50Speaker 1: the day, saying the sort of the seventies, the news
- 5:54Speaker 1: was delivered differently, and I get times change and stuff
- 5:56Speaker 1: like that, but it was it was sort of factual,
- 5:59Speaker 1: but there was almost like a bit of a merit
- 6:01Speaker 1: to it. I just the news today is very much
- 6:04Speaker 1: you've got to pick and choose. I think it's as
- 6:06Speaker 1: necessarily unbiased as it used to be.
- 6:08Speaker 4: There's been a violation of trust with the audience. There's
- 6:12Speaker 4: no predisposed contract of trust anymore. And that's why like
- 6:17Speaker 4: John Stewart, my hero, the host of the Daily Show,
- 6:21Speaker 4: and became the most trusted newsman in America, despite the
- 6:26Speaker 4: fact that he was a comedian. And I'm not saying
- 6:28Speaker 4: he's just a comedian because comedy is freakin' hard, right,
- 6:31Speaker 4: But he used satire to build a bond of trust
- 6:35Speaker 4: with the audience, and you never misunderstood where he stood
- 6:39Speaker 4: on particular issues. And he wasn't afraid to do the
- 6:41Speaker 4: hard stories. He just flipped them and did it differently.
- 6:44Speaker 4: He wasn't part of that partisan scene that they have
- 6:47Speaker 4: over there where they've got left wing media and right
- 6:50Speaker 4: wing media and they're always you know, their take on
- 6:53Speaker 4: the news is two people in between a host shouting
- 6:56Speaker 4: at each other. That's entertainment.
- 6:58Speaker 2: Is he the one who's slipped back here, by the way, No,
- 7:01Speaker 2: John Stewart's the I'll show your picture of hi because
- 7:03Speaker 2: you'll you'll know, because there's a few out there. There's
- 7:06Speaker 2: one who.
- 7:06Speaker 4: Watched the career of Stephen Colbert and exactly, yeah, that's what.
- 7:10Speaker 1: I'm thinking of, sort of got slip back here and.
- 7:12Speaker 2: Yeah, you're right.
- 7:12Speaker 1: Steve Carell as well, Yeah, yeah, right.
- 7:14Speaker 4: Steve Carell and Stephen Colbert were comedy hacks on The
- 7:18Speaker 4: Daily Show and that made them something.
- 7:20Speaker 2: Yeah right, Well it's interesting because Colbert I still don't
- 7:23Speaker 2: find funny, Stuart I found funny, and Corell I find
- 7:26Speaker 2: very funny. Yeah, but it's his humor was fantastic. Used
- 7:29Speaker 2: to watch Daily Show daily obviously, but it was always
- 7:33Speaker 2: a really good watch. And then when they started shopping
- 7:35Speaker 2: and changing hosts, I felt that they started getting a
- 7:37Speaker 2: bit more reserved and there wasn't as much actual opinion
- 7:40Speaker 2: in there. You know.
- 7:42Speaker 1: He did a famous speech once and it actually said
- 7:45Speaker 1: did you ever see that the show the Newsroom with
- 7:48Speaker 1: the yeah, yeah, that speech that they do in episode
- 7:51Speaker 1: one was his was based on an actual speech.
- 7:53Speaker 2: That he did.
- 7:54Speaker 4: Yeah, totally. Yeah, He's done some amazing work and advocacy too,
- 7:58Speaker 4: like advocating for the first spondors in nine to eleven,
- 8:01Speaker 4: so they got decent compensation out of Congress, and Congress
- 8:04Speaker 4: is like, oh, we don't want to know. He's become
- 8:07Speaker 4: the poster boy for that. He's extremely impressive when he's
- 8:09Speaker 4: not taking the piss out of someone like his IQ's
- 8:12Speaker 4: off the chart and he can think fast, and he's
- 8:15Speaker 4: very impressive.
- 8:15Speaker 1: Dude, tell us a little bit about your backstory, because
- 8:17Speaker 1: we sort of touched on that.
- 8:19Speaker 4: Everyone asleep.
- 8:21Speaker 1: Yeah, no, look, I need it. I've been up for
- 8:23Speaker 1: three days on four bags of coking.
- 8:25Speaker 4: He's the cure. Well, like your co host, I've got
- 8:30Speaker 4: a degree in engineering and I spent about twenty minutes
- 8:33Speaker 4: using it before I said fuck that, I'll become a journalist.
- 8:38Speaker 4: And Mum and dad went, oh my god. We failed
- 8:42Speaker 4: because it was either drug dealer pimple journalists, right, they
- 8:45Speaker 4: were equally bad.
- 8:46Speaker 1: Yeah, that was all terrible members of society.
- 8:49Speaker 4: I actually did engineering because I loved cars. Cars decided
- 8:53Speaker 4: that they wanted me on their team at about the
- 8:55Speaker 4: age of three, so I had to figure out a
- 8:57Speaker 4: way of doing that.
- 8:58Speaker 1: So you like cars from the age of three, there
- 9:00Speaker 1: was something there where you kind of went, oh, I
- 9:03Speaker 1: love that.
- 9:04Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know what it is. I don't think.
- 9:07Speaker 4: I don't think you choose what you do. I think
- 9:08Speaker 4: it chooses you, you know. And there are some people
- 9:11Speaker 4: who are kind of adrift and they haven't been chosen
- 9:13Speaker 4: yet by some vocation that they really gell with. But
- 9:17Speaker 4: I got the car bug and that here we are,
- 9:19Speaker 4: you know, And then I kind of did everything in
- 9:23Speaker 4: news and current affairs, like heaps a live TV, heaps
- 9:26Speaker 4: a pre recorded TV and radio two. I did a
- 9:31Speaker 4: lot of live radio, which was fun. And then they
- 9:35Speaker 4: all kind of fell apart, and I thought, wouldn't it
- 9:37Speaker 4: be interesting to run a mad experiment where someone who
- 9:41Speaker 4: was a motoring journalist had done all that shit, inverted
- 9:44Speaker 4: the medium and said what he really thinks. And that's
- 9:47Speaker 4: like if you've got this wonderful wooden bridge that you've
- 9:51Speaker 4: built over twenty years and then you just go one
- 9:55Speaker 4: hundred percent Dresden on the fifteenth of February nineteen forty five,
- 10:00Speaker 4: because it's fucking spectacular, dude, You just watch it. It
- 10:04Speaker 4: just catches. It hasn't stopped smoking since it's been about
- 10:07Speaker 4: ten years now, and there's still smoke erupting from the bridge.
- 10:11Speaker 4: People say to me in the calendustry there, we love
- 10:13Speaker 4: your stuff except when it's about us.
- 10:16Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, it's like media watch everyone loves me,
- 10:19Speaker 1: especially in like my industry, in the radio industry. And
- 10:22Speaker 1: I think there's like their tagline is everyone loves it
- 10:24Speaker 1: until they're on it. Yeah, and it's true like everyone
- 10:28Speaker 1: because say, for instance, as you know, the radio industry
- 10:31Speaker 1: so bloody small. It's like, oh my god, such and
- 10:34Speaker 1: such is about to be on tonight. Oh my god,
- 10:36Speaker 1: they're investigating such and such. We've got to watch this.
- 10:38Speaker 2: Oh they've found out no one gives a fuck. Once
- 10:41Speaker 2: it goes on there, you forget about it. The next
- 10:43Speaker 2: week it's on there for a little bit and then
- 10:45Speaker 2: you forget about it because I know, and I think
- 10:48Speaker 2: you know this person. But there was someone that used
- 10:50Speaker 2: to work for a car manufacturer.
- 10:52Speaker 1: And let's name names. This podcast hasn't had enough legal troubles. Yeah,
- 10:56Speaker 1: I was gonna say, I don't need any more, especially
- 10:58Speaker 1: from this person.
- 11:00Speaker 2: So he basically would go on a morning show with
- 11:04Speaker 2: his products. I know this story claimed to be independent
- 11:08Speaker 2: and a long No, I don't know. He is more
- 11:12Speaker 2: popular than him if you can imagine. But yeah, he
- 11:15Speaker 2: got scolded for that, and nothing came of it. His
- 11:18Speaker 2: job never went nothing changed. So I think it's media
- 11:21Speaker 2: watch is one of those things that people get hot
- 11:23Speaker 2: and bothered about but ultimately doesn't really change anything, I
- 11:26Speaker 2: don't think. But yeah, that's why I think the employer
- 11:29Speaker 2: kind of would get a bit pissed off. Now, he
- 11:31Speaker 2: stayed there for quite some time after that, and I
- 11:33Speaker 2: think the employer endorsed it, So I'm going to anyway,
- 11:38Speaker 2: you've got.
- 11:39Speaker 4: To look at the cumulative benefit that that manufacturer derived
- 11:42Speaker 4: from all of those effective placements versus you know, a
- 11:47Speaker 4: couple of minutes of pants down on the ABC, which
- 11:50Speaker 4: plenty of people don't watch.
- 11:51Speaker 2: Yep, exactly.
- 11:52Speaker 1: Yeah, so you did some life radio and you did
- 11:54Speaker 1: some TV.
- 11:55Speaker 2: Where could we have seen you back in the day?
- 11:56Speaker 4: Back in the day was a current affairs motoring expert
- 12:00Speaker 4: it and then I transitioned.
- 12:02Speaker 2: To oh that's a different meaning to Channel.
- 12:06Speaker 4: Seven's motoring experts. So I wore a different set of
- 12:08Speaker 4: genitalia there.
- 12:09Speaker 2: Yes, that was fun.
- 12:10Speaker 4: You had to hand you Nazi, Yeah, and they saved
- 12:13Speaker 4: a new set on it was amazing, slightly bigger, but
- 12:16Speaker 4: lopsided go together. And then at the same time I
- 12:22Speaker 4: was doing a radio to you, and I'd have to say,
- 12:25Speaker 4: I used to think it was hard to train yourself
- 12:27Speaker 4: to be an engineer. There's lots of mathematics. It's endless
- 12:31Speaker 4: physics and mathematics as ball test. But paneling your own
- 12:35Speaker 4: live radio show, yep, that nearly I bled from the years.
- 12:40Speaker 4: On several occasions doing that, I thought, I've only got
- 12:43Speaker 4: to do three things at once. Here, why is this
- 12:45Speaker 4: falling apart?
- 12:45Speaker 2: You know? Yeah, it's weird.
- 12:47Speaker 1: I like to think of it as just it's playing
- 12:49Speaker 1: a piano, and it's kind of like you get.
- 12:52Speaker 4: That it's playing a piano while you're welding and your
- 12:54Speaker 4: clothes are on fire.
- 12:57Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I don't know. I think i've after a while,
- 13:00Speaker 1: you would have found it that after a while, it's
- 13:02Speaker 1: kind of I don't know, you just learned to yeah,
- 13:04Speaker 1: muscle memory, yeah yeah, yeah. You don't even think about it. No,
- 13:07Speaker 1: if some shit goes wrong and you're off air, or
- 13:11Speaker 1: a music bed starts playing over a song or whatever,
- 13:14Speaker 1: you kind of you automatically know where it's at and
- 13:18Speaker 1: what to do without even thinking about it.
- 13:19Speaker 4: It teaches you coping mechanisms. And one of the things
- 13:22Speaker 4: I learned really quickly was that all these people in
- 13:25Speaker 4: TV like TV is like being spoon fed, Because if
- 13:30Speaker 4: you're a host on TV getting stuff spoon fed, and
- 13:32Speaker 4: they're talking to you in the control room in one
- 13:34Speaker 4: ear and they're saying back in thirty seconds on camera
- 13:36Speaker 4: two and all of this stuff right, you're getting all
- 13:39Speaker 4: of this extra handhelding hand holding right, And in radio
- 13:45Speaker 4: it's just you. So you've got to have the coping mechanism.
- 13:47Speaker 4: So when something goes wrong on TV, you're in a
- 13:49Speaker 4: live cross in the middle of nowhere, your ifb goes down,
- 13:52Speaker 4: you can't hear anything. You just go I know what
- 13:54Speaker 4: to do. I'm just going to wait for the tally
- 13:57Speaker 4: light on the camera and I'll just talk for two
- 13:58Speaker 4: and a half minutes like it's a package. And after
- 14:02Speaker 4: that they talked to you. You know, you get a
- 14:04Speaker 4: call and it's like, how did you know how to
- 14:06Speaker 4: do that? Dode this look live radio? It was only
- 14:09Speaker 4: two and a half minute.
- 14:10Speaker 1: Yeah, I've got a shocking temper if stuff goes wrong
- 14:14Speaker 1: in my studio when I've and it's generally if I've
- 14:16Speaker 1: got to rely on someone else, pause. You've sort of
- 14:20Speaker 1: seen me, Yeah, I've sort of You've seen a little
- 14:22Speaker 1: sprinkling but quite racist. Okay, okay, yeah, I find that
- 14:28Speaker 1: personally when you've kind of got to rely on someone,
- 14:31Speaker 1: my rule is don't. Yeah, I'm very much a solo
- 14:34Speaker 1: shit because if you've got to rely on someone and
- 14:37Speaker 1: shit goes wrong, I hate that. I just concentrate on
- 14:40Speaker 1: my own backyard. Everything's got to be my way or
- 14:42Speaker 1: the or the highway that way if something goes wrong,
- 14:45Speaker 1: and you would have you must have found that a
- 14:46Speaker 1: little bit with what you're doing now, with the content
- 14:48Speaker 1: you're uploading too, because I guess it's all you, right, Yeah,
- 14:52Speaker 1: it's all you.
- 14:52Speaker 2: You're doing man. Yeah, well actually I wanted to ask
- 14:56Speaker 2: you that. So you obviously went from what you were
- 14:58Speaker 2: doing previously to YouTube. You're doing it all on your own.
- 15:03Speaker 2: It is a lot of work.
- 15:04Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, like as you as only you would know, yes, right,
- 15:07Speaker 4: because you're a bit of a not only a young hero.
- 15:09Speaker 2: But a YouTube thank you, yes, thank you.
- 15:12Speaker 4: And you're you're doing awesome on YouTube. It has to
- 15:15Speaker 4: have respect him to say this.
- 15:18Speaker 2: I did.
- 15:19Speaker 1: I sleeped him one hundred bucks just before you walked in.
- 15:23Speaker 4: Positive payment up front.
- 15:26Speaker 2: No, I do appreciate that. And look, I genuinely feel
- 15:29Speaker 2: the same about the stuff that you do. And I
- 15:31Speaker 2: think it's also funny that a lot of people think
- 15:33Speaker 2: that you absolutely hate us and you're out to get
- 15:36Speaker 2: everyone and all this sort of stuff.
- 15:39Speaker 4: I've roasted you guys, yes, endlessly, which is which is hilarious,
- 15:43Speaker 4: Like it was hilarious when You're left nine and it was,
- 15:47Speaker 4: you know, it's just hilarious. And the thing about being
- 15:50Speaker 4: roasted is I find it amazing how presumptuous so called
- 15:55Speaker 4: motoring journalists are, because these are dudes who spend their
- 15:58Speaker 4: lives reviewing cars and they hate having their work review
- 16:02Speaker 4: Like that's not that's not a dichotomy or anything, is it.
- 16:05Speaker 2: Yeah, they're busy roasting manufacturers all the time.
- 16:09Speaker 4: But we don't want our work scrutinized by the likes
- 16:12Speaker 4: of you, you bastard. But you guys are smart enough
- 16:17Speaker 4: to know that a roast is just that. And there's
- 16:20Speaker 4: no such thing as bad publicity. And if you take
- 16:23Speaker 4: a transcript of anything that is satirical, any joke, right,
- 16:28Speaker 4: it's the most horrifically libelous, slanderous, distasteful, racist, whatever it's
- 16:36Speaker 4: just unacceptable. But it's a joke.
- 16:40Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly, it's the whole purpose of it. It's not
- 16:42Speaker 2: said to offend someone. It is a joke.
- 16:45Speaker 4: If you stood up in Parliament House and delivered it
- 16:48Speaker 4: like it was. Here's what I really think.
- 16:49Speaker 2: The Human Rights Commissions.
- 16:52Speaker 1: Trying a couple of jokes.
- 16:54Speaker 2: She did. She's pretty funny.
- 16:57Speaker 1: She just forgot to say, guys, jokes.
- 17:00Speaker 2: She just forgot that.
- 17:01Speaker 1: Man at the edge, she just thought, ah, the clear end,
- 17:04Speaker 1: I'm just punking news.
- 17:05Speaker 2: She forgot that.
- 17:06Speaker 4: But yeah, look, I think everybody who's on the consumption
- 17:09Speaker 4: end of video, audio, whatever, even just the written word,
- 17:14Speaker 4: like people go, i'd oh mate, or love to be
- 17:17Speaker 4: a car reviewer. How do I get a job doing
- 17:20Speaker 4: what you do? I go come out for a day,
- 17:23Speaker 4: dick heare, Let's just see how cushy it actually is.
- 17:26Speaker 2: Oh yeah, oh yeah, it's there's a lot of work.
- 17:29Speaker 4: And it's not just at the track fanging some car
- 17:32Speaker 4: endlessly job done, like producing reports and that the grunt work,
- 17:37Speaker 4: like the absolute glamour of take fifteen on something like Jesus.
- 17:42Speaker 2: And I mean you know that yourself, you're shooting it yourself,
- 17:45Speaker 2: you're editing it yourself. You've got your own studio setup
- 17:48Speaker 2: that is like a legitimate thing. It's not a green screen.
- 17:51Speaker 2: That's what I was king. I have to be honest.
- 17:53Speaker 1: I was like one of the YouTube clips, I was like,
- 17:56Speaker 1: is that a green screen? Kept sort of looking and
- 17:58Speaker 1: then I'm like, no, there's a different angle and a
- 18:01Speaker 1: different angle. And he's doing this in his garage on Glamorous.
- 18:05Speaker 4: So glamorous. It's a shitty, dank double Garrett doesn't look.
- 18:10Speaker 2: He's got the screws up there, He's got everything that.
- 18:13Speaker 4: That's the fakeness, inherent fakeness of the media. It's so
- 18:17Speaker 4: cruddy at its call, but you can make just the
- 18:19Speaker 4: right bit of it looks so slick.
- 18:22Speaker 1: Right, Yeah, well that's I mean when you see Paul
- 18:24Speaker 1: in the flash totally as opposed to on TV, it's yeah, yes, yeah.
- 18:31Speaker 2: Another thing I wanted to ask you as well, a
- 18:33Speaker 2: lot of people want to be murdering journalists. My advice
- 18:37Speaker 2: would be don't, Because every time someone asks for advice,
- 18:41Speaker 2: I say, do you want to get paid nothing? Do
- 18:44Speaker 2: you want to have to rely on manufacturers to do
- 18:47Speaker 2: everything for you? Do you want to never actually own
- 18:49Speaker 2: any of the cars that you drive. If so go
- 18:51Speaker 2: become a murdering journalist, say that with radio too.
- 18:53Speaker 1: No, that's not even Joe, It's like but it's the.
- 18:55Speaker 2: Same thing, right. Yeah, you will have a select few
- 18:58Speaker 2: that are successful and everything works out, but most motoring
- 19:02Speaker 2: journalists you don't want to live that life.
- 19:05Speaker 4: It's the perfect job if you hate your home life,
- 19:08Speaker 4: because you can be away for roughly half of it,
- 19:10Speaker 4: and when you go away, it's business class verth clicker,
- 19:14Speaker 4: five star Limo transfers. It's the rock star treatment for
- 19:19Speaker 4: someone paid roughly the same as a cleaner.
- 19:23Speaker 2: Literally. Yeah, I mean some of the starting salaries. I
- 19:28Speaker 2: knew a couple of people that worked there not that
- 19:30Speaker 2: long ago. That we're getting forty five grand a year.
- 19:32Speaker 2: I don't even think that's legal.
- 19:34Speaker 1: But my first radio gig was thirty two grand go
- 19:38Speaker 1: and that was nineteen forty two. We'd just come out
- 19:42Speaker 1: of No but that would have been about fifteen years ago.
- 19:45Speaker 1: But that was thirty two grand. And fuck, I'm telling
- 19:48Speaker 1: you now, like over the space before this one, over
- 19:50Speaker 1: the space of a good fifteen years, it didn't get
- 19:55Speaker 1: much better.
- 19:55Speaker 4: Yeah, but it's supplying demand, right, You've got all these
- 19:58Speaker 4: people who want to do. Yeah, the actual supply of
- 20:01Speaker 4: jobs is so limited, so it's that. But unless you
- 20:05Speaker 4: can turn it into a full on business, as you
- 20:07Speaker 4: guys have done and as I've done, the pay is
- 20:10Speaker 4: ship and there's increasing pressure to just be a car
- 20:16Speaker 4: company sicker fan whose main job is not journalism but
- 20:20Speaker 4: just the reiteration of press kid talking points. And I'd
- 20:25Speaker 4: rather just buy a razor blade.
- 20:27Speaker 2: And of bourbon before we go back to YouTube. I'm
- 20:30Speaker 2: curious you mentioned there the whole business class thing. We
- 20:33Speaker 2: often hang shit on other murdering journalists on the show
- 20:36Speaker 2: here because I hate that sort of not me pose
- 20:40Speaker 2: the biggest bit blood, I just.
- 20:43Speaker 4: He's the second biggest big Yeah, that's.
- 20:46Speaker 2: There's a bigger bitch here, literally and metaphorical.
- 20:50Speaker 1: I love that.
- 20:50Speaker 2: But I think that that that is something that is
- 20:55Speaker 2: that is interesting because I think that you can't have
- 20:59Speaker 2: a genue an opinion about a product, like a one
- 21:03Speaker 2: hundred percent genuine opinion about a product, if you are
- 21:07Speaker 2: there on their dime, you're flying business class, you're staying
- 21:10Speaker 2: at all these fancy places. You can't hand on Hart
- 21:13Speaker 2: tell a camera, this car is garbage. Do not buy it.
- 21:16Speaker 2: Because they're all standing around they review the footage before
- 21:19Speaker 2: you get it. It's just all sorts of not going
- 21:22Speaker 2: to work.
- 21:23Speaker 4: So well, here's my review of every Volkswagen, every Jeep
- 21:26Speaker 4: and every land Rover. Okay, these things are fucking beautiful.
- 21:30Speaker 4: They are. They are like a Jeep Grand Cherokee is
- 21:34Speaker 4: so Jack Bauer ye that I want, right, And I've
- 21:38Speaker 4: never driven a Range Drover that I hate it, never right,
- 21:43Speaker 4: And every like a Volkswagen Golf GTI classic hot Hatch.
- 21:49Speaker 2: Right.
- 21:49Speaker 4: You can't not love driving those cars. So my review
- 21:52Speaker 4: is these are the tits. Don't own one. You're insane
- 21:56Speaker 4: if you buy it because it's great to borrow for
- 21:59Speaker 4: a week and give back. But you are crazy if
- 22:02Speaker 4: you own a ship box like that, because that manufacturer
- 22:06Speaker 4: is predisposed to throwing you under the bus if anything
- 22:08Speaker 4: goes wrong. Here's the evidence from the a Triple C
- 22:11Speaker 4: of all of the times that they've breached their obligations,
- 22:14Speaker 4: that the extortionate repair cost, blah blah blah, their poor reliability,
- 22:18Speaker 4: European bill quality is a myth. And we could just
- 22:21Speaker 4: go on and if you're the public relations manager of
- 22:24Speaker 4: one of those car makers, yep, they can't afford to
- 22:27Speaker 4: invite somebody who will say what is actually objectively the case.
- 22:32Speaker 4: So they're sick of fan mining, right, because they've got
- 22:36Speaker 4: a million dollars to spend on the launch of whatever,
- 22:39Speaker 4: three hundred thousand, whatever it is, and you don't get paid.
- 22:43Speaker 4: Your sociopathic asshole who runs the import operation is going
- 22:48Speaker 4: to rip you a new one if you invite someone
- 22:50Speaker 4: who just gives an objectively balanced view of how they roll.
- 22:55Speaker 2: Yep, right, yeah, exactly. Well that's a simple fact to it.
- 22:58Speaker 2: And that's why, in my opinion, if you are buying
- 23:01Speaker 2: a new car today, I would not buy anything based
- 23:04Speaker 2: on one review because that one review is someone who
- 23:08Speaker 2: has been probably whined and dyed by a manufacturer and
- 23:13Speaker 2: they can't objectively say this is good or bad. My
- 23:16Speaker 2: advice always is to look at five or six reviews,
- 23:19Speaker 2: look at the stuff that you do, and take it
- 23:21Speaker 2: for a test drive yourself, and then have a look
- 23:22Speaker 2: at the history of the brand as well. And it
- 23:25Speaker 2: is hard when new cars come out. You obviously don't
- 23:27Speaker 2: know what they're going to be like in ten years,
- 23:28Speaker 2: if a small new platform blah blah blah, but you
- 23:31Speaker 2: do look at some of the history, some of the recalls,
- 23:34Speaker 2: and you have to make up your own mind. You
- 23:36Speaker 2: can't just rely on reviews, and with this age of influencers,
- 23:40Speaker 2: it is the worst. My wife will buy so much
- 23:42Speaker 2: shit from everywhere based on what she sees on Instagram.
- 23:46Speaker 1: Oh man, those like mum bloggers and stuff like that.
- 23:48Speaker 1: The influencers on Instagram. Yeah, I mean, of shit, just
- 23:52Speaker 1: a front door every day.
- 23:55Speaker 2: But it's the people that will get flick the keys
- 23:57Speaker 2: to some new car. I love it because it's a
- 24:00Speaker 2: new car. Their other car is a ten year old,
- 24:03Speaker 2: twenty year old ship box. Of course they're going to
- 24:05Speaker 2: love it, and then of course they're going to tell
- 24:06Speaker 2: all their followers how good it is. And that's why
- 24:08Speaker 2: I think that these days it is really hard for
- 24:11Speaker 2: you to have these objective car reviews. And that's why
- 24:14Speaker 2: what we try and do is a little bit different.
- 24:16Speaker 2: Like I'll actually show people measurements and the stuff that
- 24:19Speaker 2: I say in my week with the car, that is
- 24:21Speaker 2: what happened to it.
- 24:22Speaker 4: I got to say, whose idea was the hardness tester?
- 24:25Speaker 4: For the fucking dad?
- 24:27Speaker 1: So do you, by the way, that derometer? Do you
- 24:29Speaker 1: ever take that into the bedroom and.
- 24:30Speaker 2: Go I actually have is a finer scale.
- 24:35Speaker 1: Smaller dorometer. I didn't want to ask you. Actually, I've
- 24:39Speaker 1: probably never asked you this before, but you guys get
- 24:41Speaker 1: flown all around the world for this sort of stuff
- 24:43Speaker 1: and you're standing there in oh, I don't know, Switzerland
- 24:47Speaker 1: and you're road testing some sort of a new car
- 24:50Speaker 1: that's coming out, and you're like, it's a bucket of shit.
- 24:52Speaker 1: And then it comes to Australia and you know there's
- 24:55Speaker 1: been no Australian sort of testing or whatever of it,
- 24:59Speaker 1: and you've to stand there and kind of go, man,
- 25:02Speaker 1: these guys flew me across the world for this sort
- 25:04Speaker 1: of stuff.
- 25:05Speaker 4: Like there's a flip side to this equation too, though, right,
- 25:07Speaker 4: because you're a journalist employed by a publisher who is
- 25:12Speaker 4: deriving a direct commercial benefit from the advertising from that brand.
- 25:17Speaker 4: So if you get in between that, if you stem
- 25:19Speaker 4: that tight, that's really bad. Like I've had, I've been
- 25:23Speaker 4: the subject of some full on car company tantrums where
- 25:27Speaker 4: I've been, you know, a journalist as a freelancer usually,
- 25:32Speaker 4: but in between the publisher, maybe a television publisher of
- 25:37Speaker 4: some note, and then a large Australian car company with
- 25:40Speaker 4: a line on the badge that is no longer here.
- 25:43Speaker 4: You know, and their full on tantrum is impossible. It's
- 25:46Speaker 4: spectacular and you wouldn't believe it. So if you say
- 25:50Speaker 4: things that a car company doesn't like, there's a whole
- 25:53Speaker 4: cascade of mechanisms that kick in, Like if you keep
- 25:56Speaker 4: behaving like that, we can't lend you any.
- 25:58Speaker 2: Of our cars. Yep, and extra job it does.
- 26:01Speaker 4: Okay, And we're not going to take you on our gigs, right,
- 26:04Speaker 4: and we're going to take you on our launchers right.
- 26:06Speaker 4: And then if you keep doing that, and if your
- 26:08Speaker 4: breach is egregious enough, the marketing director will ring up
- 26:12Speaker 4: the commercial director of the publisher and have a meeting
- 26:14Speaker 4: about get this clown into line. And if your mortgage
- 26:17Speaker 4: depends on you doing your job, then that is a
- 26:20Speaker 4: really uncomfortable position for you. And it's extremely expedient, and
- 26:25Speaker 4: I understand why people do it. They go, this is
- 26:27Speaker 4: pretty cushy. It is nice at the pointy end of
- 26:29Speaker 4: the plane, and I don't want to have another one
- 26:31Speaker 4: of those meetings. So I'm just going to hear the
- 26:33Speaker 4: talking points and I'll put my own spin on it here.
- 26:36Speaker 4: But this car is getting seven point four out of ten.
- 26:39Speaker 2: Yep. That pretty much that sums up exactly what it's like,
- 26:43Speaker 2: and I think there's cars. Yeah, I think it's the
- 26:45Speaker 2: same for any industry that we Trevorlong on the show
- 26:48Speaker 2: recently is the tech guy? Yeah, a lot with do
- 26:51Speaker 2: you know Trevor? Yeah, how many people do.
- 26:57Speaker 1: It's just like a lot of people just think he's
- 26:59Speaker 1: like a hobo walked in off the streets. I just
- 27:01Speaker 1: wanted to break from selling the big.
- 27:03Speaker 2: Those vacuum cleaner is like, you wouldn't believe what sucks?
- 27:07Speaker 2: All right?
- 27:09Speaker 1: I was needing at the back of the Carronor going, man,
- 27:11Speaker 1: you've got to turn out the dos and sucks the
- 27:14Speaker 1: crime of a Toba.
- 27:18Speaker 2: But yeah, he was openly telling us it's the same
- 27:21Speaker 2: in tech. Tell me how you do it?
- 27:22Speaker 4: Is a car expert surviving the inevitable backlash from saying
- 27:29Speaker 4: what do you really think? From time to time.
- 27:32Speaker 2: I think they now realize that we have our site,
- 27:36Speaker 2: which is now as of last month, Austraighta's biggest new
- 27:38Speaker 2: car site in terms of visits. We are caring less
- 27:44Speaker 2: about media spend because the business is pivoting to a
- 27:48Speaker 2: Leeds model and the media spend is contracting so much.
- 27:52Speaker 2: It's not like the days of Car Advice where it
- 27:54Speaker 2: was mega dollars and you know, you could just print money.
- 27:58Speaker 2: It's now contracting so much and they've they've taken a
- 28:02Speaker 2: bit of control and we need to reverse that. And
- 28:04Speaker 2: we're sort of big enough now where you can kind
- 28:06Speaker 2: of just do what you need to do.
- 28:09Speaker 4: That's fascinating to me because you know what the response
- 28:11Speaker 4: from the car industry is to me, deafening silence. Yes, right,
- 28:15Speaker 4: I never get anyone ring me up and say no,
- 28:18Speaker 4: that's wrong, right, But I don't ever. They don't do pr.
- 28:22Speaker 2: Do you know how much they talk about you? Oh?
- 28:25Speaker 4: Yeah, like you would not believe well Satan? Like who
- 28:28Speaker 4: would you rather interview? Satan or Jesus?
- 28:33Speaker 2: Way better? Stories?
- 28:34Speaker 4: Stories?
- 28:36Speaker 2: Say?
- 28:36Speaker 4: Is what I did to hear for last year.
- 28:38Speaker 1: State would share the cocaine.
- 28:41Speaker 2: A lot of people don't know. But you used to
- 28:43Speaker 2: be the editor of Car Advice, and I was so
- 28:47Speaker 2: to speak under you at the time. It was it
- 28:51Speaker 2: was a lot of loads to bear, but I took
- 28:52Speaker 2: it like a champ. It was intimate and one of
- 28:56Speaker 2: our things at the time was growing video. And I
- 28:59Speaker 2: have just this little gem I'm going to very quickly played.
- 29:03Speaker 2: We're going to put this on the socials.
- 29:05Speaker 4: Beautiful look at this guy. Yeah.
- 29:10Speaker 2: So what we did is we had a we're going
- 29:12Speaker 2: to cut to the studio setup and this was a
- 29:15Speaker 2: video where we were looking at the mans to three
- 29:18Speaker 2: and then.
- 29:19Speaker 4: What's the date on that?
- 29:20Speaker 2: Yes? Oh, oh my god, what are you twelve? With
- 29:28Speaker 2: an ourfro? I know it's very that's amazing. Yeah, so no,
- 29:33Speaker 2: go back.
- 29:33Speaker 1: I need to say, oh my god, you probably would
- 29:38Speaker 1: have been the only ten year old with a full
- 29:40Speaker 1: dash of pubes.
- 29:41Speaker 2: That was the backstory to that. You were with Car
- 29:45Speaker 2: Advice back then. And actually remember one time I got
- 29:47Speaker 2: into a lot of trouble from you because we were
- 29:49Speaker 2: at Geneva Motor Show.
- 29:50Speaker 4: Apostrophe in the wrong place?
- 29:52Speaker 2: Was it? Oh no, no, it was worse than that,
- 29:54Speaker 2: And upon reflection, I shouldn't have done it. But I
- 29:57Speaker 2: used the word wanker when we're into a wankle in
- 30:02Speaker 2: trying to be funny tone, and it turned out it
- 30:04Speaker 2: wasn't that funny according to you.
- 30:06Speaker 1: So are you trying to crack jokes? I'm funny.
- 30:10Speaker 4: Look the backstory there was and I find this utterly hilarious.
- 30:13Speaker 4: We've got to air this right because back then Car
- 30:18Speaker 4: Advice was viewed as being those assholes, those upstart assholes.
- 30:23Speaker 4: The car industry hated Car Advice. It was just a
- 30:26Speaker 4: blog that was on a real publication that was just
- 30:30Speaker 4: Albas's blob.
- 30:31Speaker 2: It's it right.
- 30:32Speaker 1: So, like you guys were young, fresh and like the
- 30:34Speaker 1: old boys were kind.
- 30:35Speaker 4: Of at their they brought me on as editor, and
- 30:39Speaker 4: basically I had to get One of my briefs was
- 30:42Speaker 4: to get the car industry engaged with the brand. So
- 30:45Speaker 4: I had to go and meet with Audi and say,
- 30:49Speaker 4: I'll leverage my unsullied reputation, right and and I guarantee
- 30:56Speaker 4: that these guys will toe the line.
- 30:58Speaker 2: And I bet my reputation.
- 31:00Speaker 4: And if you told me that, if you told me
- 31:03Speaker 4: that in ten years time, I'd just be sitting in
- 31:05Speaker 4: my garage.
- 31:06Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 31:08Speaker 4: It's just amazing that the entire inversion of that dynamic
- 31:13Speaker 4: becaurse now car expert and in the closing stages of
- 31:19Speaker 4: Car Advice before they shot it in the dick and
- 31:22Speaker 4: made it drive olbosn't Tony and Paul became the respected
- 31:31Speaker 4: journalist and I became the antichrist. So it was a
- 31:33Speaker 4: complete version of that dynamic. It's amazing.
- 31:36Speaker 2: It's just funny and yeah, I think that those were
- 31:39Speaker 2: fun times because we were learning a lot, and you
- 31:41Speaker 2: taught us a lot because you know, we knew nothing elbows.
- 31:43Speaker 4: I think it's fair to say that you used to
- 31:45Speaker 4: hate me.
- 31:46Speaker 2: Oh look, but I enjoyed a good argument. So that
- 31:49Speaker 2: was good fun. Were you?
- 31:50Speaker 4: You were smart ass back in the day when I
- 31:53Speaker 4: mean this quite sincerely, and you don't get that very often.
- 31:55Speaker 4: And we can cut it if you think it's discontinued everything.
- 31:59Speaker 4: I actually think you're to and out. Okay, thank you, look.
- 32:01Speaker 2: At that right, I'm cutting that shit out. No, that's
- 32:06Speaker 2: the thing.
- 32:06Speaker 4: It's take the other hundred.
- 32:09Speaker 2: There are a lot of people in this industry, and
- 32:11Speaker 2: I know that we're fucking chopping and changing directions here,
- 32:14Speaker 2: but just recently you did a video about one in
- 32:17Speaker 2: one particular person.
- 32:19Speaker 1: Can I just ask, just like, if we can just
- 32:23Speaker 1: I've just bought a super of outback XT sport and
- 32:28Speaker 1: I'm just wondering, do you think I could toe with that?
- 32:30Speaker 1: I'm thinking, like, I don't know, maybe I'll get some
- 32:33Speaker 1: sort of excavator style trailing ye.
- 32:36Speaker 2: Put like a young day venue on.
- 32:37Speaker 1: That's just what I feel like doing. I feel like
- 32:39Speaker 1: doing that one day everyone does. Yeah, do you think
- 32:42Speaker 1: I could like toe that like safely?
- 32:45Speaker 4: Well, I think objectively you could tell it that's been
- 32:48Speaker 4: done and proven. Oh can you do it legally? I
- 32:51Speaker 4: don't think so.
- 32:52Speaker 2: Your opinion, you don't.
- 32:53Speaker 4: I don't think it's safe to put that amount of
- 32:55Speaker 4: load on the towball.
- 32:57Speaker 1: Right anyway, totally unrelated a mystery, guess Tom Baker come here.
- 33:03Speaker 4: People often think that that kind of thing is a
- 33:06Speaker 4: personal attack from me, and I get how somebody would
- 33:10Speaker 4: not like me upending them for doing something that stupid. Okay,
- 33:15Speaker 4: but there's a public safety dimension to that. If you
- 33:18Speaker 4: present that in the context of expert advice, that's dangerous
- 33:23Speaker 4: and illegal, right, and it should be called out as such.
- 33:27Speaker 4: Someone's got to do it. You're right, And I didn't
- 33:29Speaker 4: defame him at all. And I've actually got a lot
- 33:32Speaker 4: of respect for Tom because he's developed a niche. They do.
- 33:36Speaker 4: I'm Tom Baker, this is Jason gos right, Like, he
- 33:40Speaker 4: does that and it works. There's a niche for that,
- 33:43Speaker 4: and he's not a bad car reviewer, right, It's just
- 33:47Speaker 4: that when you step into a different domain where there's
- 33:50Speaker 4: a lot of technical constraints, and if you start towing
- 33:54Speaker 4: something that's heavier than the vehicle towing it. You really
- 33:57Speaker 4: need to get that right because the inertial effects of
- 34:01Speaker 4: the thing that you're towing are beyond sufficient to nudge
- 34:05Speaker 4: the toe vehicle out of the way. Because the kinds
- 34:08Speaker 4: of trailers that we tow with in Australia for caravans
- 34:11Speaker 4: and boats and all manner of things like that, there
- 34:15Speaker 4: are pig trailers. They've got centralized axle groups and that
- 34:18Speaker 4: means that they pitch forward very freely, befowd and backwards.
- 34:22Speaker 4: Then they're uncontrolled comparatively in pitch, and they're also comparatively
- 34:26Speaker 4: unstable in yours. So that's like the plane of a
- 34:30Speaker 4: old vinyl record. We're rotating in that plane, they're unstable
- 34:34Speaker 4: like that. They're okayan roll because the wheels are out
- 34:36Speaker 4: to the side. But if you get a big heavy trailer,
- 34:39Speaker 4: it's restraint in pitch and your is dependent on the
- 34:44Speaker 4: inertia of the vehicle towing it.
- 34:46Speaker 1: Right.
- 34:46Speaker 2: Paul's getting this for later, Yeah, there'll be a test.
- 34:53Speaker 4: All I'm saying is a big heavy trailer, if it's
- 34:55Speaker 4: too big and too heavy, it can easily nudge the
- 34:57Speaker 4: tow vehicle off the road and the bigger that mass gets,
- 35:01Speaker 4: and the bigger the physical size of that thing gets,
- 35:03Speaker 4: the more likely that is to happen. And the much
- 35:07Speaker 4: more diligently you've got to approach that exercise. And those
- 35:10Speaker 4: guys really did not approach that diligently enough, and the
- 35:14Speaker 4: advice they gave was bad.
- 35:16Speaker 2: Well, actually think that all of that is true, but
- 35:19Speaker 2: the worst part is the optics of it being an
- 35:22Speaker 2: insurance company, because guess what if you had a crash
- 35:26Speaker 2: and they came to inspect it and said, no, you've
- 35:28Speaker 2: fucked up the trailer loading, you won't meant to have
- 35:30Speaker 2: a venue that far up a thing.
- 35:32Speaker 1: Yes, that's an interesting night.
- 35:33Speaker 2: That's my biggest problem because as a consumer, an insurance
- 35:36Speaker 2: company are the first people to try and fuck you.
- 35:38Speaker 2: They will be there at the front of that line.
- 35:41Speaker 2: So I think I've got that.
- 35:42Speaker 4: Hamphlet with a he's or ankles and this is the
- 35:44Speaker 4: preferred grip.
- 35:45Speaker 2: Like you know, people make mistakes, but I think that
- 35:51Speaker 2: this was on another level altogether. I haven't seen an
- 35:56Speaker 2: apology or an admission yet.
- 35:58Speaker 1: Have they taken the video down?
- 35:59Speaker 2: The videos come down, But to me, I would be
- 36:03Speaker 2: very quickly lining up and saying look, I didn't know
- 36:06Speaker 2: what I was talking about. I'm sincerely thanks for your feedback.
- 36:10Speaker 2: Blah blah blah. That's all it needs to be. It happens.
- 36:13Speaker 4: I think that's a plus. Fore your integrity, Yeah right,
- 36:16Speaker 4: if you own it. It's like, hey, we're not fallible.
- 36:19Speaker 4: We thought we were doing the right thing, but on reflection,
- 36:21Speaker 4: that was bad and here's how we should have done it.
- 36:24Speaker 4: That'd be the video I'd do next and ps right,
- 36:28Speaker 4: one hundred and ten bucks At super cheap Audo, you
- 36:30Speaker 4: can buy a set of scales that are purpose designed
- 36:34Speaker 4: to measure the towball download. So before hooking up an
- 36:38Speaker 4: unfamiliar trailer to your car, you spend and let's not
- 36:41Speaker 4: forget the car that you're doing the towing with is
- 36:43Speaker 4: worth fifty or sixty grand and some of these can
- 36:46Speaker 4: taj mahals. They're acoustically transparent aluminium hitoire right, three and
- 36:52Speaker 4: a half ton effluent carriage, so you can he's and
- 36:56Speaker 4: hers affluent through the Great Australian outback.
- 36:58Speaker 2: Right, they're one hundred thousand dollars.
- 37:02Speaker 4: You can afford one hundred and ten bucks for a
- 37:04Speaker 4: set of scales to measure the table down Jesus, or
- 37:07Speaker 4: you can visit a public waybridge and measure everything, the
- 37:09Speaker 4: gross combined mass and the taball down.
- 37:11Speaker 2: They make it so easy literally drive onto it. You
- 37:14Speaker 2: have one axle here, one axle here. It prints it
- 37:16Speaker 2: out for you on the screen. You don't have to
- 37:17Speaker 2: do anything.
- 37:18Speaker 4: A politician could do it.
- 37:19Speaker 2: Yes, that's telling you something.
- 37:21Speaker 1: Hey.
- 37:22Speaker 4: One thing I did want to bring up was how
- 37:24Speaker 4: many times have I been sued for defamation?
- 37:26Speaker 2: Yes? Actually that is something. Have you because we have
- 37:32Speaker 2: gone through this with just your shoes off, how many
- 37:36Speaker 2: times have you received letters? No? Really, never out never right,
- 37:44Speaker 2: suck shit, wear one up on bud.
- 37:46Speaker 4: I've been I've been extensively trained though about how to
- 37:51Speaker 4: avoid Yes. And the other thing about defamation, right, is
- 37:55Speaker 4: the amplification factor, Like look at Ben Robert Smith. How
- 37:59Speaker 4: many people now know about Ben Roberts Smith conduct who
- 38:03Speaker 4: did not know about it arising from the initial stories
- 38:07Speaker 4: that were published, right, plenty, hundreds of thousands probably, So
- 38:12Speaker 4: there's an amplification factor. If you sue someone for defamation
- 38:16Speaker 4: and you lose, it gets amplified exactly right, and everything
- 38:20Speaker 4: you say is potentially defamatory. But there's a couple of
- 38:22Speaker 4: great defenses like truth substantial truth is pretty good and
- 38:27Speaker 4: honest opinion as long as you get the hair and
- 38:29Speaker 4: makeup on honest opinion, right, you've got to present it
- 38:31Speaker 4: as actually being your opinion and not a fact, and
- 38:34Speaker 4: it's got to be based on true facts that are
- 38:36Speaker 4: presented to the audience so that they can make an
- 38:39Speaker 4: informed decision about that. But maybe the two balancing sort
- 38:43Speaker 4: of axie is. The other thing is if it's satire,
- 38:46Speaker 4: then this is why cartoonists don't get sued for defamation, right,
- 38:50Speaker 4: because it's really not. It's not defamatory in the sense
- 38:54Speaker 4: that it doesn't make people shun that person, and it
- 38:57Speaker 4: doesn't destroy their reputation. It just makes you get.
- 39:00Speaker 2: You'll get south Park, right. That would be the perfect
- 39:02Speaker 2: example of one that would be sued seventy thousand times over.
- 39:05Speaker 2: But you do.
- 39:07Speaker 4: And the Spice Girls, right. Tea dub has never met
- 39:09Speaker 4: the Spice Girls to my knowledge, right, and he's never
- 39:12Speaker 4: been on tour with them. But it's just a funny
- 39:15Speaker 4: way to present the grubbiest lobby group in the country
- 39:19Speaker 4: that isn't an oil or gas lobby group.
- 39:22Speaker 1: Actually, I was going to say, we should be careful
- 39:23Speaker 1: what we say about Ben Robert Smith, because now that
- 39:25Speaker 1: Paul has a hum vy, I'm pretty sure they're like
- 39:27Speaker 1: right or dies. He picks him up and they go.
- 39:30Speaker 2: Little cruises together and stuff.
- 39:31Speaker 1: Hey Benny, what do you reckon?
- 39:33Speaker 2: It is you reckon?
- 39:34Speaker 1: We can tell you zigways off that cliff.
- 39:36Speaker 4: You enjoy that video?
- 39:38Speaker 2: Yeah, mate, that thing is a beast. And I just yeah,
- 39:41Speaker 2: it's got its own post code, it does. And the
- 39:44Speaker 2: amount of trouble I went through and the amount of
- 39:47Speaker 2: dodgy just fucker is that you really tried to screw
- 39:51Speaker 2: me over along the way and most here in Australia
- 39:53Speaker 2: as well. Yeah, it's just horrendous, how dishonest some people are.
- 39:57Speaker 4: All in the name of biosecurity.
- 39:58Speaker 1: Mate, security in my mind, the fact that you had
- 40:02Speaker 1: to take your car apart, and.
- 40:05Speaker 2: I took it mostly apart, but there were some parts
- 40:07Speaker 2: that clearly were not visible from from the naked eye,
- 40:10Speaker 2: but it was still past because another guy came. Wasn't
- 40:13Speaker 2: the really diligent guy. It was his colleague and he goes, oh,
- 40:15Speaker 2: I didn't have to do all that pass. I'm like, oh, thanks,
- 40:19Speaker 2: So biosecurity I think is just And then you had
- 40:21Speaker 2: to put the things together. Yeah, thankfully it's got like
- 40:24Speaker 2: this bit goes here. This built for army people you
- 40:28Speaker 2: clearly identify with that they're not. I'm not saying army
- 40:31Speaker 2: people are stupid or anything. I just mean it's built
- 40:35Speaker 2: for that situation where they can put it back together
- 40:37Speaker 2: quickly and not have to read through seven thousand manuals
- 40:39Speaker 2: to make stuff work.
- 40:40Speaker 1: Right. Yeah, Hey, you did a post recently about getting
- 40:47Speaker 1: through the court system. I guess unscathed basically overturning what
- 40:52Speaker 1: was it, a speeding red light camera?
- 40:53Speaker 2: Red light camera? Right?
- 40:54Speaker 1: The way you articulated that, especially at the start was brilliant,
- 40:58Speaker 1: and I wanted you to tell the story behind it
- 41:00Speaker 1: because I'm all for road safety and all that sort
- 41:03Speaker 1: of stuff, but I honestly think a lot of this
- 41:05Speaker 1: stuff is money grabs by the government.
- 41:08Speaker 4: People talk about road safety and they talk about road toll,
- 41:12Speaker 4: the road toll as if it's a door to door
- 41:14Speaker 4: in Fallujah, right, Like, it's not like that. The most
- 41:18Speaker 4: dangerous year on the roads in Australia was nineteen seventy,
- 41:22Speaker 4: and it was I always forget, but it's about three
- 41:25Speaker 4: It's either three thousand, seven hundred and ninety or three thousand,
- 41:28Speaker 4: six hundred and ninety people died on the road in
- 41:30Speaker 4: nineteen to seventy go. It's a lot, it's heaps, it's rough,
- 41:33Speaker 4: it's more than three times what the road toll is now.
- 41:35Speaker 4: But there's also been this dramatic increase in the number
- 41:39Speaker 4: of vehicles and the number of k's we drive, And
- 41:42Speaker 4: like in Australia we drive two hundred and ten billion
- 41:46Speaker 4: with a b kilometers, which is more than thirty return
- 41:49Speaker 4: trips to Pluto, Okay, and about eleven hundred people die.
- 41:54Speaker 4: That's lower than the toll from suicide. And you know,
- 41:58Speaker 4: there are other accidental causes of death, like being at
- 42:01Speaker 4: work is a big one, and accidental falls are big
- 42:03Speaker 4: as well, and nothing like the resources are devoted to
- 42:08Speaker 4: suicide prevention, for example, and we get more benefit from
- 42:11Speaker 4: that than we would to getting on top of the
- 42:13Speaker 4: road toll. So driving is fucking safe. This is something
- 42:17Speaker 4: that is never told to the average person. And what's
- 42:22Speaker 4: what's improved the road toll between nine and seventy in now, Okay,
- 42:25Speaker 4: we change the culture about drink driving and we made
- 42:28Speaker 4: seat belts manditory. Yes they're huge, okay. And then there's
- 42:33Speaker 4: been this incremental and overtime substantial improvement in civil engineering,
- 42:38Speaker 4: meaning safer roads and vehicle safety. We've got safer cars, right,
- 42:43Speaker 4: So we've chipped away at that, and enforcement plays a role. Okay,
- 42:48Speaker 4: certainly enforcement plays a yeah, totally. But the thing is
- 42:52Speaker 4: the regulators in each state they want to take all
- 42:55Speaker 4: the credit and all they do is enforcement. I forgot
- 42:59Speaker 4: to mention meta call practices as well. Right, there's been
- 43:02Speaker 4: a dramatic improvement in critical care for badly injured persons. Okay,
- 43:07Speaker 4: so that's why road death is reduced. It's got fuck
- 43:09Speaker 4: all to do with enforcement. So enforcement has become a
- 43:13Speaker 4: de facto form of taxation. If you drive a car
- 43:17Speaker 4: from time to time, we're just going to ping you
- 43:19Speaker 4: a little bit more tax And I'd say to the
- 43:21Speaker 4: average roads minister, why don't you just fess up about
- 43:24Speaker 4: it and say, well, actually, we need another billion dollars.
- 43:28Speaker 4: So we're just going to divide the number of registered
- 43:31Speaker 4: vehicles in the state a billion dollars divided by the
- 43:34Speaker 4: number of registered vehicles. Here's what the new regio fee is.
- 43:37Speaker 4: And we're going to have a fair enforcement system where
- 43:41Speaker 4: there's a twelve pointer called drive like a fuck with
- 43:44Speaker 4: right you've mate, you know why I've stopped you. You drive
- 43:47Speaker 4: like a fuck with just then that's your license. Go
- 43:49Speaker 4: on holidays for three months. That'll be a thousand bus. Okay.
- 43:53Speaker 4: If that was actually the case, I think most people
- 43:57Speaker 4: would get behind it. But when these offenses become technical
- 44:01Speaker 4: in nature only, and yeah, technically you committed this breach, right,
- 44:05Speaker 4: but we're still going to find you the full amount
- 44:07Speaker 4: get fucked. Then you lose faith with the system. And
- 44:10Speaker 4: when you lose faith with the system, there are some
- 44:12Speaker 4: really bad knock on effects because you get called for
- 44:15Speaker 4: jury duty okay, and the courts that the police prosecutor
- 44:20Speaker 4: is trying to put away some properly bad motherfucker who's
- 44:23Speaker 4: a drug importer or something, and half of the people
- 44:26Speaker 4: sitting on the jury are going, I don't trust the
- 44:27Speaker 4: fucking cops. The only thing I've ever done with them
- 44:30Speaker 4: they pulled me over six times.
- 44:31Speaker 2: I lost my fucking job.
- 44:33Speaker 4: Right, there's that kind of dialogue going on inside people's heads,
- 44:38Speaker 4: and in fact, inside the New South Wales Police Force,
- 44:42Speaker 4: the proper cops call the highway patrol the jury wreckers
- 44:46Speaker 4: because they're fully aware of this phenomenon. Right, we'll just
- 44:51Speaker 4: get that put a call out of the jury wreckers,
- 44:53Speaker 4: see if they can come here with the fucking pizza.
- 44:57Speaker 2: You talk a lot like trevel Long.
- 45:01Speaker 1: It blows my mind the amount of finds this, and
- 45:04Speaker 1: especially the way I guess appealing for a fine as well.
- 45:08Speaker 4: Well. They say you can appeal for leniency right if
- 45:10Speaker 4: it's a trivial offense, if you've got a good record.
- 45:13Speaker 4: So I hadn't been booked for a driving offense for
- 45:16Speaker 4: thirty three years, despite driving all these Porsches and BMWM cars,
- 45:20Speaker 4: and I should have probably been booked on occasion, but
- 45:22Speaker 4: happily I wasn't right AnyWho. I had this clean record
- 45:26Speaker 4: that was more than three decades long, and my offense
- 45:30Speaker 4: was I just had brain fade one day, and when
- 45:32Speaker 4: the right arrow went green, I misinterpreted that as permission
- 45:37Speaker 4: to proceed forward. I went half a car length forward
- 45:40Speaker 4: and went, oh, that's bad, and jammed the brakes on
- 45:43Speaker 4: and I stopped roughly a car length ahead of where
- 45:46Speaker 4: I'd been stopped for the past thirty five seconds or
- 45:49Speaker 4: what thing. And I appealed for leniency to Revenue New
- 45:53Speaker 4: South Wales and they wrote me back a very polite
- 45:55Speaker 4: letter which I'll summarize, now get fucked. And I thought, well, bug,
- 46:00Speaker 4: I'm going to take it to court, right, And I
- 46:01Speaker 4: took it to court, and I had this submission, and
- 46:03Speaker 4: it was the world's best submission, right, It was the
- 46:06Speaker 4: best submission ever. It had two character references from a
- 46:10Speaker 4: former Deputy Prime Minister and the local member for the
- 46:13Speaker 4: state legislature. We did some road safety courses in the
- 46:16Speaker 4: local area, and the Federal Police have got a chapter
- 46:19Speaker 4: with my name on it in the High Speed Pursuit Revision,
- 46:23Speaker 4: a review that they did a few years ago. So
- 46:25Speaker 4: we did all of that and I've got it all there,
- 46:27Speaker 4: and it speaks to the triviality of the offense, and
- 46:30Speaker 4: it speaks to my driving record, the work I'd done
- 46:33Speaker 4: in road safety, and the likelihood of reoffending. Like been
- 46:37Speaker 4: licensed for forty two years, don't think I've got another
- 46:39Speaker 4: forty two in me. Probably safe to let me back
- 46:41Speaker 4: out on the road. And the magistrate just looked at
- 46:45Speaker 4: it like this and pushed it to one side and said,
- 46:47Speaker 4: I'm not even going to read that, right, And I went.
- 46:50Speaker 2: This is bad.
- 46:52Speaker 4: I said, would your honor prefer a concise, verbal executive summary?
- 46:56Speaker 4: He said, Noah, I don't want that either. Can you
- 47:00Speaker 4: just issued me what's called a Section ten one, a dismissal.
- 47:04Speaker 4: Section ten of the Crime Sentencing Procedure Act nineteen ninety
- 47:08Speaker 4: nine allows the magistrate to consider the totality of the
- 47:12Speaker 4: circumstances plus all these other things like your age and
- 47:15Speaker 4: your character and your record and anything else they want
- 47:17Speaker 4: to consider, and they can dismiss your charge if it's warranted.
- 47:22Speaker 4: So if you stab someone thirty two times and it's
- 47:25Speaker 4: all called on video, and you've got a double bag
- 47:28Speaker 4: with crystal meth in it, and you know a dozen
- 47:31Speaker 4: bishops have seen it as well their eyewitnesses.
- 47:34Speaker 2: Don't expect from me last weekend.
- 47:36Speaker 4: Don't expect your section down one day. There's a one
- 47:40Speaker 4: B and a one C you can get as well.
- 47:42Speaker 4: One B is what you might think of as a
- 47:44Speaker 4: good behavior bond, right, so then they can say, yeah,
- 47:47Speaker 4: we're going to dismiss that, but we're going to they
- 47:49Speaker 4: call them conditional release orders. We're going to require you
- 47:52Speaker 4: to be not committing another traffic offense for twelve months
- 47:55Speaker 4: or two years. And then one C is the same thing,
- 47:58Speaker 4: except they require you to do an offenders program. So
- 48:00Speaker 4: it's a drug offense, it'll be an addiction program. In
- 48:03Speaker 4: the case of a traffic offense, it's the traffic offenders program.
- 48:07Speaker 4: But if you really are just an anti social cock
- 48:09Speaker 4: behind the wheel and you don't deserve it, in fact,
- 48:10Speaker 4: you deserve more of a knee in the slats than
- 48:13Speaker 4: the original fine, they can amp.
- 48:15Speaker 2: It right up. Yeah, because that's the risk you run,
- 48:17Speaker 2: right when you go to court the makers grand and go.
- 48:19Speaker 4: Two grand and twelve months off the road.
- 48:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean they can go the original farmer's two
- 48:23Speaker 2: hundred bucks. I'm actually going to make it whatever and
- 48:25Speaker 2: I'm going to cancel your license, whether that's and that's
- 48:28Speaker 2: the problem, right, if you genuinely want to appeal it,
- 48:33Speaker 2: you run the risk of that, And that's why a
- 48:34Speaker 2: lot of people don't because they're like, Oh, I don't
- 48:36Speaker 2: want to lose a day off work, I don't want
- 48:38Speaker 2: to have all these problems.
- 48:39Speaker 1: Because sometimes it's just easier to take three points and
- 48:43Speaker 1: six hundred bucks or whatever.
- 48:44Speaker 2: You're kind of used to.
- 48:45Speaker 4: I'm kind of used to being asked questions by people
- 48:50Speaker 4: and standing in front of a microphone and being on
- 48:52Speaker 4: the spot, right, But I'd be lying if I said
- 48:54Speaker 4: it wasn't slightly nerve racking.
- 48:56Speaker 2: Well, you're in it, and I've been through this experience
- 48:58Speaker 2: as well. I'll explain why in a second. But you
- 49:00Speaker 2: you're in a room there with a lot of people
- 49:02Speaker 2: who may have done some really bad stuff. And this
- 49:06Speaker 2: is the frame of mind they put you in as well,
- 49:07Speaker 2: because you associate yourselves with some of these other people.
- 49:11Speaker 2: You don't want to be there, you don't want to
- 49:12Speaker 2: be seen there. It's just not a nice place to be.
- 49:16Speaker 2: But they set it up in that way so that
- 49:17Speaker 2: you're dissuaded from doing it, and they set it up
- 49:20Speaker 2: in such a complex way that the first thing you
- 49:22Speaker 2: do what it's like in New South Wales, but you
- 49:24Speaker 2: get to mention, which you attend. You then get a
- 49:28Speaker 2: court date to go to. And at the court date,
- 49:31Speaker 2: if it's one of these traffic fences, they have a
- 49:32Speaker 2: prosecutor that works for them, they're on retainer. Typically they'll
- 49:36Speaker 2: bring in if there's a police officer involved them as
- 49:38Speaker 2: a witness. It is quite an intimidating thing and you
- 49:43Speaker 2: made immediately to feel like a bad guy before anything's
- 49:45Speaker 2: even happened.
- 49:46Speaker 4: Everyone else does it every day, yeah, right, The prosecutor
- 49:50Speaker 4: does it every day. The magistrate does it every day.
- 49:52Speaker 4: The police officer who's coming in to testify against you,
- 49:54Speaker 4: if it's a cop thing, then he's been to court
- 49:58Speaker 4: a million times, yafull he knows how to test a
- 49:59Speaker 4: lit if he has to.
- 50:01Speaker 2: It'd be like him coming to host a live radiation.
- 50:03Speaker 2: He'd have no idea what to do to be intimidating.
- 50:05Speaker 2: It's still a.
- 50:06Speaker 4: Live cross on seven tomorrow morning, six fifteen. Let's see
- 50:09Speaker 4: how you go.
- 50:11Speaker 2: It would have been a time to like, yeah, yeah, wow,
- 50:14Speaker 2: this is the thing. And I went through something similar
- 50:16Speaker 2: when I graduated UNI. I had to go to my
- 50:19Speaker 2: graduation and I thought I'll catch the training because I
- 50:22Speaker 2: can't be fuck looking for parking. And I went to
- 50:24Speaker 2: the train station. It was the point where they were
- 50:26Speaker 2: switching over to Mikey, which is the totally fuck ticketing
- 50:29Speaker 2: system we have in New Victoria. Is that still there?
- 50:31Speaker 2: I think, So I don't.
- 50:32Speaker 1: Do it commers.
- 50:35Speaker 2: So I went to the train station and wanted to
- 50:37Speaker 2: buy a paper ticket. And got to the train station
- 50:39Speaker 2: and they had up until a month after this point
- 50:42Speaker 2: that paper tickets were going to exist. The machine was
- 50:45Speaker 2: out of order, and I thought, well, I've got my
- 50:46Speaker 2: Mikey here, it's a concession one. I'm no longer a student.
- 50:49Speaker 2: I'm not going to use that because they'll dick me
- 50:51Speaker 2: for not being a student. As soon as I get
- 50:53Speaker 2: to the train station, I'll buy a ticket explaining what's happened.
- 50:57Speaker 2: At this point, I'd caught a train a few times,
- 50:59Speaker 2: get on and the ticket inspectors are there, and I thought,
- 51:02Speaker 2: I'll just show him the photos. The reasonable people didn't
- 51:06Speaker 2: give a fuck, gives me a thing, and I said, okay,
- 51:08Speaker 2: well I'm going to take this to court, and he
- 51:09Speaker 2: didn't care anyway. They I decided to take it to court.
- 51:13Speaker 2: At the mention, the prosecutor came up to me and
- 51:16Speaker 2: offered me a dismissal. But with the dismissal, I had
- 51:19Speaker 2: to plead guilty, and I'm like, fuck that, I'm not
- 51:21Speaker 2: pleading guilty on this. So I was slightly different to
- 51:23Speaker 2: Johns scenario. So I went back again for the actual
- 51:26Speaker 2: court case, and with me, I had my brief of evidence,
- 51:30Speaker 2: had all the photos, It had the legislation for tickets,
- 51:34Speaker 2: which was that you had to have made a reasonable
- 51:35Speaker 2: attempt to buy a ticket. I had the exact coins
- 51:38Speaker 2: in my hand that I photographed, the machine wasn't working
- 51:41Speaker 2: photographed and what they did the two ticket inspectors, because
- 51:45Speaker 2: they're always hunting in pairs so they can work at
- 51:47Speaker 2: work as witnesses. They lied to the magistrate. They said
- 51:50Speaker 2: they both stood there and talked to me, and they
- 51:52Speaker 2: both listened to me. One just kept walking. They weren't
- 51:55Speaker 2: even together. And I thought, if I'm up against these liars,
- 51:58Speaker 2: I mean, you're never going to win. And thankfully the
- 52:00Speaker 2: magistrate was reasonable look through the evidence. The prosecutor just
- 52:06Speaker 2: had nothing, and they found me not guilty, dismissed, and
- 52:09Speaker 2: I got to claim cost as well for the two
- 52:12Speaker 2: days that I lost from work. So I think that
- 52:14Speaker 2: if you are in that position, obviously, if you're doing
- 52:17Speaker 2: one hundred and eighty and you go I didn't do
- 52:19Speaker 2: it, it's like, all right, well, lasers are virtually accurate to
- 52:22Speaker 2: within a kilometer an hour over a kilometer speed. Cameras
- 52:27Speaker 2: are accurate these. I don't bother wasting your time on that.
- 52:30Speaker 2: But if you're in a situation like your in or
- 52:31Speaker 2: I was in, if.
- 52:32Speaker 4: It really is true doing it and you've got a
- 52:34Speaker 4: good record, then it's not like you're gaming the system.
- 52:37Speaker 4: They've written the legislation exactly for that, right, So you
- 52:41Speaker 4: I also wanted to send a message that I wasn't
- 52:45Speaker 4: just going to copy it on the chin. Yeah, right,
- 52:47Speaker 4: And I think more people should do that if there
- 52:49Speaker 4: is a serious case that they might get a dismissal.
- 52:53Speaker 4: And the other thing about all of this stuff that
- 52:56Speaker 4: would really be of benefit to the listener is that
- 53:01Speaker 4: if you get stopped, it's your conduct when you get
- 53:04Speaker 4: stopped by the cops, for example, is really important. Like
- 53:07Speaker 4: you should be respectful because things can get dramatically worse
- 53:11Speaker 4: for you if you're not. But you should also a
- 53:14Speaker 4: not make any admissions because the cop might have nothing yep. Right,
- 53:18Speaker 4: he might sincerely believe that you've done whatever he accuses
- 53:22Speaker 4: you of doing, but he might have nothing. Okay, So
- 53:25Speaker 4: his objective is going to be to walk up to
- 53:27Speaker 4: you and get you, particularly he's got a body camera.
- 53:29Speaker 2: Yep.
- 53:30Speaker 4: He's going to want you to make an admission that
- 53:32Speaker 4: you did it. And if that's a laid down maasaire,
- 53:34Speaker 4: you can no longer plead not guilty. Right if you
- 53:37Speaker 4: admit it, that's like, yeah, I stabbed him, so what right?
- 53:40Speaker 2: And then you decide later on.
- 53:42Speaker 1: Actually it's just with a paper clip That's one of
- 53:44Speaker 1: the first question they will generally ask you when you're
- 53:46Speaker 1: pulled over, is do you know why I pulled you over?
- 53:48Speaker 2: Yeah? Because that's an omission of.
- 53:49Speaker 1: Guilt, right, Yeah, because I was speeding, right Yeah.
- 53:52Speaker 2: And you could play it both ways as well. I mean,
- 53:55Speaker 2: if you in the history of people getting pulled over
- 53:58Speaker 2: by police, telling or argue with them, I don't think
- 54:01Speaker 2: anyone has ever got off a fine where they eventually,
- 54:03Speaker 2: after ten minutes of arguing, the cops go, oh no, no,
- 54:05Speaker 2: you're right, off you go. So I don't think being
- 54:07Speaker 2: aggressive helps at all.
- 54:09Speaker 4: But not making a mission anything, Yeah, admissions are so bad.
- 54:12Speaker 4: And the other thing you should do is film it
- 54:16Speaker 4: on your phone if necessary, but to go probably better
- 54:18Speaker 4: with big fat wide lens. Right, just film everything.
- 54:21Speaker 1: Yep, I'll tell you what works really well. Tell them
- 54:24Speaker 1: me a sovereign citizen.
- 54:27Speaker 2: No. I actually did that the other day when I
- 54:28Speaker 2: went got a random breath test, just going through one
- 54:32Speaker 2: of those, and she goes, how's your day going, And
- 54:33Speaker 2: I said, I'm a sovereign citizen and then she just
- 54:36Speaker 2: feat like that. I'm like, I'm just kidding, and she
- 54:38Speaker 2: thankfully laughed and didn't shoot me. Or anything. But you
- 54:41Speaker 2: see some of those.
- 54:42Speaker 4: Things, you weren't a ninety year old granny with a steak, now.
- 54:46Speaker 2: But that's the thing. It really is about how you
- 54:49Speaker 2: conduct yourself, and it is about not putting your foot
- 54:52Speaker 2: in it, because ultimately they will stop, let's say ten
- 54:55Speaker 2: to fifteen people in a session, they will take some
- 54:59Speaker 2: very basic and if you've admitted, all they're going to
- 55:01Speaker 2: write down is Yep, they've admitted it. It's at this
- 55:03Speaker 2: recording on my GoPro or my voice recorder. I'm good
- 55:06Speaker 2: to go. If you don't admit to anything, there is
- 55:09Speaker 2: a good chance that of those ten they haven't taken
- 55:11Speaker 2: notes down. But the time it gets to court, they
- 55:13Speaker 2: have to have sufficient evidence to be able to do anything.
- 55:16Speaker 2: And if all they've got is you saying I didn't
- 55:18Speaker 2: do it, and they don't have anything else, I mean,
- 55:22Speaker 2: they have no ability to charge you with anything.
- 55:24Speaker 4: Well, that happened to former Prime Minister Paul Keating right right.
- 55:28Speaker 4: The cops alleged that he drove through a red light.
- 55:30Speaker 2: Yep.
- 55:30Speaker 4: He said no, I didn't, yep, and they gave him
- 55:33Speaker 4: a ticket for it. He took it to court. They
- 55:34Speaker 4: said he did. He said he didn't there was no
- 55:36Speaker 4: other evidence, and the magistrates said, well, on the balance
- 55:39Speaker 4: of all of this, there's no compelling there's reasonable doubt.
- 55:43Speaker 2: Yep. Just because the cops says you did it, it
- 55:45Speaker 2: doesn't mean that that's true. No, they're not somehow not.
- 55:49Speaker 2: You know that they're not all perfect non liars, you
- 55:52Speaker 2: know what I mean, Like, how can they have to
- 55:54Speaker 2: have something?
- 55:55Speaker 4: But in between my red light transgression and it being
- 55:58Speaker 4: dismissed was six months. So if you're a cop and
- 56:02Speaker 4: you work the full six months, can you even remember
- 56:06Speaker 4: the interaction with the dude?
- 56:07Speaker 2: Absolutely in court? No, yep, exactly, It's just.
- 56:11Speaker 4: Be a sea of face, Yeah, wouldn't it.
- 56:13Speaker 2: You know. The other funny thing as well, had you
- 56:14Speaker 2: have approached that intersection, breaked late and stopped in the
- 56:19Speaker 2: position where you were prior to it going read, nothing
- 56:22Speaker 2: would have happened. This is the thing. So just because
- 56:25Speaker 2: you drove forward but didn't go through the actual intersection,
- 56:29Speaker 2: you now have six months of your life you have
- 56:31Speaker 2: to worry about all this stuff and waste your time
- 56:33Speaker 2: getting references.
- 56:34Speaker 4: Well, it's not cost effective to go to court, right BECA,
- 56:37Speaker 4: It's just not not even if you don't have a lawyer, right.
- 56:40Speaker 2: It's not for you or the taxpayer. No, No one
- 56:42Speaker 2: wins out of that, yep.
- 56:45Speaker 4: So the thing you've got to do is you've got
- 56:47Speaker 4: to decide what the definition of value is. Because if
- 56:51Speaker 4: you're doing it to save money, just pay the fine, right,
- 56:54Speaker 4: But if you're doing it to make a statement, and
- 56:55Speaker 4: in my case, I was hoping it would be a
- 56:57Speaker 4: decent story as well, so that's worth it. But it
- 57:00Speaker 4: took me roughly two days off work to get my
- 57:05Speaker 4: shit together, and part of that was I paid a lawyer,
- 57:08Speaker 4: like I'd interviewed a bunch of lawyers about it in
- 57:10Speaker 4: the past, but I thought, you're a dick if you
- 57:12Speaker 4: don't actually get a game plan out of a lawyer.
- 57:15Speaker 4: And that cost me three hundred and thirty bucks, which
- 57:16Speaker 4: was nearly as much as the fine, So you know
- 57:19Speaker 4: you're not going to be financially in front. But the
- 57:22Speaker 4: other thing is if you get booked, you should fight it.
- 57:26Speaker 4: If it's fightable, you should fight the first one because
- 57:29Speaker 4: if you wait till your license is hanging by a thread,
- 57:31Speaker 4: the court will look at your record and you look
- 57:34Speaker 4: like a shit driver, and you'll be less likely to
- 57:37Speaker 4: get a dismissal if you've got a bunch of current offenses.
- 57:40Speaker 1: What's the term they used, by the way, was it
- 57:43Speaker 1: a pardon?
- 57:44Speaker 4: Like, what's the It's a dismissal.
- 57:46Speaker 2: It's an actual dismissal.
- 57:47Speaker 4: It's a dismissal under Section ten.
- 57:49Speaker 1: That's good crime, because that's what you know. For me,
- 57:51Speaker 1: I reckon, like the wording would want to be we
- 57:54Speaker 1: fucked up.
- 57:55Speaker 2: Do you know what I mean?
- 57:56Speaker 4: It's dismissed, like you admit the guilt of it. And
- 57:59Speaker 4: they look at the totality of the circumstances and go,
- 58:03Speaker 4: you know what, We're going to let him off. Yeah,
- 58:06Speaker 4: I said, no, fine, no points, no black mark on
- 58:09Speaker 4: your record, which is pretty cool. And in fact it was.
- 58:12Speaker 4: It was the one light. It was the one shining
- 58:15Speaker 4: light of actual fairness within the system, at least as
- 58:19Speaker 4: far as I saw it. And I watched a bunch
- 58:21Speaker 4: of other traffic offenders getting up throughout the course of
- 58:26Speaker 4: the morning, and the ones who deserved it, they got
- 58:29Speaker 4: their dismissal, and the ones who didn't they got told
- 58:31Speaker 4: they weren't getting it, you know. So I saw that
- 58:33Speaker 4: as actually being a reasonably fair and just place, unlike
- 58:37Speaker 4: all of the interactions up to that point.
- 58:40Speaker 2: Yeah, that's that's a good point. I wanted to ask you,
- 58:44Speaker 2: you know what's next for you? Are you our death?
- 58:48Speaker 1: Most probably, I'll tell you what I'll tell you what's
- 58:54Speaker 1: next for him. We're going out after this.
- 58:55Speaker 2: Oh yes, and we're just unfortunately it's out to have
- 58:58Speaker 2: some pizza. But no, Wow, that's a big night out.
- 59:01Speaker 2: And I mean, are you are you happy doing the
- 59:06Speaker 2: YouTube stuff? Do you have any other plans? You know,
- 59:09Speaker 2: what's your what's your sort of what are your future prospects?
- 59:13Speaker 2: People are just happy cruising.
- 59:14Speaker 4: Can't you accept my future prospects are? I'm fundamentally unemployable right,
- 59:21Speaker 4: And like Satan isn't going to get a job anywhere else.
- 59:26Speaker 4: He's in Hell, He's got ship to do. I'm like,
- 59:28Speaker 4: I'm like Satan in this domain. There's fires to stoke
- 59:32Speaker 4: and there's people to roast, and you know that kind of.
- 59:35Speaker 2: Makes me to keep you busy.
- 59:36Speaker 4: And it's not like I'm going to make anything up.
- 59:38Speaker 4: We live in this post satire era where the news
- 59:42Speaker 4: is actually a bigger inversion of reality of here's the test, you.
- 59:50Speaker 2: Know, utopia, right?
- 59:51Speaker 4: The show? If if I were writing a script for
- 59:56Speaker 4: a show, and I mentioned some of the plot to
- 1:00:00Speaker 4: some of the stories like Carlos Gone Right, escaping from
- 1:00:06Speaker 4: almost certain long term imprisonment in Japan, being smuggled out
- 1:00:11Speaker 4: of his rather opulent penthouse apartment in a fucking musical
- 1:00:17Speaker 4: instrument case and put on a plane, a chartered plane
- 1:00:20Speaker 4: by two former Special Ops dudes. Like if I wrote
- 1:00:24Speaker 4: that in the.
- 1:00:25Speaker 2: Script, you cannot make it up.
- 1:00:26Speaker 4: Some executive at via common ring up and go mate,
- 1:00:30Speaker 4: play off the crystal.
- 1:00:33Speaker 2: Maybe you'll never get he ends up in Lebanon as
- 1:00:36Speaker 2: well as mate, Okay, go back and.
- 1:00:37Speaker 4: Get and he's a national hero, right, come on, But
- 1:00:42Speaker 4: if you look at Rupert Stadler as well, and you know,
- 1:00:47Speaker 4: if you look at the former.
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: Winter Corn, oh yes, yeah, Martin Wintercorn.
- 1:00:53Speaker 4: Like Winter Corn is under indictment in the US and
- 1:00:56Speaker 4: the only reason he'll never get prosecuted is because and
- 1:01:00Speaker 4: he doesn't extradite It's citizens to the United States because
- 1:01:04Speaker 4: of that nastiness you know back in the forties.
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: Yeah, well, okay, well, let I guess solidifies that so
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: we won't see you know, you've got autoex but we
- 1:01:12Speaker 2: won't see you know.
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: Fan that's coming up act is Yeah, well this is
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: me with some velvelen, you know what I mean.
- 1:01:23Speaker 4: What I mean, I don't think we'll see an only fan.
- 1:01:26Speaker 4: I'm almost certain about that. But I've always thought there
- 1:01:29Speaker 4: was there's a broader application for that kind of thing
- 1:01:33Speaker 4: that I do, because there's so many media sicker fans, right,
- 1:01:36Speaker 4: and it's nauseating. And I think the audience is smarter
- 1:01:40Speaker 4: than they were in the seventies too, you know, Like
- 1:01:42Speaker 4: there's a really fascinating biopic with a whole bunch of
- 1:01:46Speaker 4: big names in it, like Robert Downey Jr. And that
- 1:01:50Speaker 4: it's it's called good Night and good Luck. Everyone should
- 1:01:53Speaker 4: watch that because it's that pivotal moment in journalism in
- 1:01:57Speaker 4: the McCarthy era in the United States where they actually
- 1:01:59Speaker 4: decided to start taking sides yep, right, And if you're
- 1:02:03Speaker 4: interested in how the media works, it's a really interesting story.
- 1:02:07Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:02:07Speaker 4: So, what we've got at the moment is so many
- 1:02:10Speaker 4: sicker fans. So we need a few more alaric and
- 1:02:13Speaker 4: upstarts like you guys have got potential in the alaric
- 1:02:17Speaker 4: and upstartery department. Although I appreciate that you still want
- 1:02:21Speaker 4: to be on speaking terms in the car industry for
- 1:02:23Speaker 4: the most where it's like I couldn't give a shit.
- 1:02:24Speaker 4: You know, you're not talking to me again, Okay, dude, understood.
- 1:02:28Speaker 4: I'll try and sleep. Okay, so enough.
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: Actually just on that, just a couple of quick questions
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: while we wrap. Is there a car this year that's
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: made you happy? Like?
- 1:02:39Speaker 2: What?
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: Is there a car that you kind of go, yeah,
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: this is actually lives up to the.
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: Hype or that you would surprise. Yeah.
- 1:02:45Speaker 4: I don't know if it's released this year. But the
- 1:02:48Speaker 4: car I would buy just to please myself right now
- 1:02:51Speaker 4: is he under thirty en? Because I think it's just
- 1:02:54Speaker 4: goodza fun.
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: Great answer, Yeah right.
- 1:02:56Speaker 4: BMWN three and cars of that nature. They just intimidate
- 1:03:00Speaker 4: the shit out of me. They're exciting. But I can't
- 1:03:02Speaker 4: milk a car like that for all this work.
- 1:03:04Speaker 2: I haven't got that, so I don't think many people can.
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: I also think most of the people consuming those sorts
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: of cars, I really don't think they're taking it to
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: the track like I honestly don't. I think it's very
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: The track stuff is a very niche thing.
- 1:03:16Speaker 4: They want people to look at them in their M
- 1:03:18Speaker 4: three And the only thing is they're not the only
- 1:03:20Speaker 4: dot that they're not joining in that particular sequence is
- 1:03:23Speaker 4: most of the people looking at them in their M
- 1:03:25Speaker 4: three are thinking what a.
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: Correct answer.
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: But it's interesting because, like they you do spend a
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: lot of money for these cars, say, maybe not so
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: much to the Ends, but for the M three, and
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: that's quite a track focused car. You're really not going
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: to ever be able to drive that to it's true potential.
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: You can kind of show off to mates and can
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: go check it out. Look how quick I can take
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: this corner and all that sort of stuff.
- 1:03:51Speaker 4: But the M three is looking back at you when
- 1:03:54Speaker 4: you're doing that. The M three is looking back at
- 1:03:56Speaker 4: you and going, is that all you're going?
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: Lol, yeah, whatever the German equivalent of that.
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: Yeah, the end.
- 1:04:01Speaker 2: The Ends are cool little cars too.
- 1:04:02Speaker 4: I really do like you're going to be a pretty
- 1:04:04Speaker 4: spect driver to milk the shit out of them too.
- 1:04:05Speaker 4: I've got to say, like the performance potential can only
- 1:04:08Speaker 4: be accessed on a track, and you have to be
- 1:04:11Speaker 4: on it to make it, to make it really perform.
- 1:04:14Speaker 4: So it's a it's a really good package, you know.
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: Like the fact that they called like the front wheel
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: drive on it a feature too, I thought was really
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: interesting when it was first released.
- 1:04:24Speaker 2: After a while you kind of go, yeah.
- 1:04:26Speaker 4: This is like, well that is really spooky, like it
- 1:04:30Speaker 4: allows you to get on the gas so far in
- 1:04:33Speaker 4: advance of an apex, because you know you're playing this
- 1:04:37Speaker 4: game a chicken with yourself on the track all the time,
- 1:04:39Speaker 4: like how early can I get on the gas? How
- 1:04:41Speaker 4: early can I get on the gas all the time?
- 1:04:42Speaker 4: How late can I break? How early can I get
- 1:04:44Speaker 4: on the gas? And the answer is a lot earlier
- 1:04:47Speaker 4: than that, dickhead?
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: You go again, right, yeah, what about what about EV's?
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: Where are we? Where are we at with the Yeah?
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: What is your thing on EV's? Because I know that
- 1:04:57Speaker 2: you you had certain views on elon Musk. Where are
- 1:05:01Speaker 2: you at with evs? Because my opinion has changed?
- 1:05:04Speaker 4: Mine was since you bought the hummer?
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: Yes that's right, yeah, yeah, we've we've owned two teslas
- 1:05:10Speaker 2: now and the first one was a lithium ion and
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: since then, looking at thermal runaway and how dangerous they
- 1:05:17Speaker 2: can be in those situations, my mind has changed on
- 1:05:21Speaker 2: the LFP batteries that aren't susceptible to that kind of
- 1:05:24Speaker 2: thermal runaway as susceptible as susceptible to that kind of
- 1:05:27Speaker 2: thermal runaway and to me, if I'm putting family in
- 1:05:31Speaker 2: the car, it's just a better safety feature for me.
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: Do you think that we're there yet with that battery ticket?
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: I know that an internal combustion car will catch on
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: fire as well if you put a lighter near combustible fuel.
- 1:05:44Speaker 2: But are we there yet?
- 1:05:45Speaker 4: Yeah? Okay, So the big difference is you can put
- 1:05:49Speaker 4: a combustion car fire out with water.
- 1:05:52Speaker 2: Or film and fairly quickly as well.
- 1:05:54Speaker 4: Yeah, But with a catastrophic thermal runaway, the decomposition of
- 1:05:59Speaker 4: the electrolyte in the bat manufactures its own oxygen gas,
- 1:06:02Speaker 4: so it can't be put out by deprivation of atmospheric oxygen,
- 1:06:06Speaker 4: which is a conventional firefighting mechanism in Europe. What they
- 1:06:09Speaker 4: have to do before the thermal runaway occurs, when the
- 1:06:12Speaker 4: car's just on fire making a few bit of smoke
- 1:06:16Speaker 4: sort of thing before it really kicks off, They put
- 1:06:18Speaker 4: it in. They get a truck and they bring a
- 1:06:21Speaker 4: big tub of water, like a big carsized bath tub,
- 1:06:24Speaker 4: and they crane the car into that and water is
- 1:06:27Speaker 4: the thermal shock absorber from hell, and that just keeps
- 1:06:31Speaker 4: sucking heat out of the battery so that it doesn't
- 1:06:34Speaker 4: reach the state of catastrophic thermal runaway, and the catastrophic
- 1:06:38Speaker 4: thermal runaway phenomenon is what ultimately sunk the Felicity Ace
- 1:06:41Speaker 4: about a year ago.
- 1:06:42Speaker 2: That's right, the moment that had the stack of porschey
- 1:06:45Speaker 2: Vs and eat.
- 1:06:46Speaker 4: So one of them kicked off and had a on
- 1:06:49Speaker 4: the balance of probability, no one knows because it's three
- 1:06:51Speaker 4: and a half kilometers down the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean, right,
- 1:06:55Speaker 4: but four thousand cars. That ship had the capacity to
- 1:07:00Speaker 4: carry four thousand cars. I don't know if it had the
- 1:07:01Speaker 4: full four thousand on board, but anyway, it was a
- 1:07:04Speaker 4: two hundred million dollar disaster, and it's because of the
- 1:07:07Speaker 4: different nature of thermal runaways.
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:07:12Speaker 4: So we're not there with evs. There's two major things.
- 1:07:15Speaker 4: We're not there with the integration of them into society
- 1:07:19Speaker 4: because in the West field of the future, there's going
- 1:07:21Speaker 4: to be one hundred EV's and many of them are
- 1:07:24Speaker 4: going to be plugged in, and one of them might
- 1:07:26Speaker 4: have been in a minor fender bender, and the bumper
- 1:07:28Speaker 4: could be on with gaffer tape and it could have
- 1:07:30Speaker 4: a problem with the battery, right, and you plug it in,
- 1:07:33Speaker 4: Mum and Dad go shopping. And it has a thermal
- 1:07:36Speaker 4: runaway and it picks up the three or four evs
- 1:07:39Speaker 4: around it. They have thermal runaways, and when that thermal
- 1:07:43Speaker 4: runaway event happens in an enclosed space, it's extremely dangerous
- 1:07:46Speaker 4: because of the chemicals like hydrofluoric acid. And the other
- 1:07:52Speaker 4: one is cobalt. Right. Two firefighters in Victoria are medically
- 1:07:58Speaker 4: retired because of their exposure to cobalt following a EV
- 1:08:03Speaker 4: file and they turn up with a PPE.
- 1:08:06Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:08:07Speaker 4: The thing about cobalt is you get it on your skin.
- 1:08:10Speaker 4: It fucks you, right, you don't even have to breathe it. Okay.
- 1:08:13Speaker 4: So we're not really there in terms of the management
- 1:08:16Speaker 4: of these risks. And it's a real dichotomy when you've
- 1:08:19Speaker 4: got low probability events because it's not likely that it's
- 1:08:23Speaker 4: going to happen. Probability is really low, but the seriousness,
- 1:08:26Speaker 4: the severity of the event when it does happen, is
- 1:08:29Speaker 4: extremely high. So we haven't really integrated that into society.
- 1:08:33Speaker 4: And I think we're also over selling evs to the population.
- 1:08:37Speaker 4: And that's evidenced by when you look at the EV
- 1:08:39Speaker 4: Council and and who sponsors the EV Council, right, Who
- 1:08:44Speaker 4: pays the bills. There there's a lot of energy companies
- 1:08:48Speaker 4: because what a lot of energy retailers want you to
- 1:08:51Speaker 4: do is they want you to look at the EV
- 1:08:53Speaker 4: because it's a shiny new toy you can buy and
- 1:08:55Speaker 4: we can save the planet.
- 1:08:57Speaker 2: But also you can use a shitload of electricity. Yeah,
- 1:08:59Speaker 2: and help us make a lot of money.
- 1:09:01Speaker 4: Yeah, coal projects and gas projects, they're all over the horizon.
- 1:09:04Speaker 4: You can't really see them, but you can see the evs.
- 1:09:06Speaker 4: So in terms of their environmental benefit, their greenhouse benefit,
- 1:09:10Speaker 4: they're being over sold. Then if we get Harry Potter's freakin'
- 1:09:15Speaker 4: wand and replace every passenger car in the country with
- 1:09:18Speaker 4: an EV right now, we make an eight percent difference
- 1:09:22Speaker 4: to our greenhouse gas emissions because that's the contribution of
- 1:09:27Speaker 4: passenger cars, right, Passenger vehicles like light vehicles, And that's
- 1:09:32Speaker 4: if the electricity used to charge them is all sustainable electricity,
- 1:09:36Speaker 4: which it's not. Okay, So this conflation of evs with
- 1:09:41Speaker 4: real climate action. They're part of a solution, but the
- 1:09:45Speaker 4: real big part of the solution is coal and gas,
- 1:09:47Speaker 4: and nobody wants to talk about that.
- 1:09:49Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, and that's that's the thing with EV's. I
- 1:09:52Speaker 2: think if you're buying it to make an environmental stance.
- 1:09:56Speaker 2: I just don't know that it's the right thing at
- 1:09:57Speaker 2: the moment. And we didn't buy ours for that reason.
- 1:10:00Speaker 2: I just wanted a fast TV and that's what it was.
- 1:10:03Speaker 2: And I rarely have drive it anyway. My wife drives it,
- 1:10:06Speaker 2: and you know it does it serves that purpose. But
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: I do think infrastructure is shit, and it really pisces
- 1:10:12Speaker 2: me off with companies like charge Fox who take all
- 1:10:15Speaker 2: of this government money to roll out infrastructure. You go,
- 1:10:18Speaker 2: there's our taxpayer money. They're partly funded by governments. A
- 1:10:22Speaker 2: lot of the charges they do are funded by governments.
- 1:10:24Speaker 2: You go there and plug in. Thing doesn't work.
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: And by the way, they seem to be answerable to nobody.
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: Well, this is the thing them. THEO was drunk. Sorry,
- 1:10:34Speaker 2: I should have still Again, the authority that basically dishes
- 1:10:38Speaker 2: out this money for these projects, We've contacted them to
- 1:10:41Speaker 2: ask them how many of the charges that taxpayers have
- 1:10:43Speaker 2: funded are currently working. No one responds to any emails that.
- 1:10:47Speaker 4: They don't want to talk about uptime.
- 1:10:49Speaker 2: No EV Council is is just a money spinning operation.
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: If you have a look at how many employees they have,
- 1:10:55Speaker 2: and how much money car companies and these energy companies
- 1:10:58Speaker 2: are paying them. Tell you what, there's not much being spent,
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: but there is a lot coming in.
- 1:11:02Speaker 4: So so the last key of launch I ever went
- 1:11:06Speaker 4: on was the key EV six, and I said to them,
- 1:11:09Speaker 4: let me drive on home because it was in camera,
- 1:11:12Speaker 4: so it'll make it.
- 1:11:13Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:11:14Speaker 4: So here's what happens. They give me the keys to
- 1:11:16Speaker 4: the car, they say, yeah, here's your EV six, and
- 1:11:18Speaker 4: I go, how much charges have got? And they go
- 1:11:19Speaker 4: all the charges downstairs in the hotel room were blown up,
- 1:11:22Speaker 4: so we don't really know. A couple hundred k's maybe,
- 1:11:25Speaker 4: And I go, okay, that's great, I'll charge up on
- 1:11:29Speaker 4: the way home. So I pull up in Goulben and
- 1:11:34Speaker 4: one of the charges is dead like brown bread, and
- 1:11:37Speaker 4: the other one is reported by the app as being up,
- 1:11:40Speaker 4: but it's got a completely black screen. So it's kind
- 1:11:43Speaker 4: of like trying to use your smartphone with no screen. Okay,
- 1:11:46Speaker 4: bit difficult, It's okay if you've got a great memory.
- 1:11:49Speaker 4: And then the last charger is up, I go, great,
- 1:11:53Speaker 4: so I pick it up, plug it in, and I've
- 1:11:55Speaker 4: charged up a thousand EV's by now, so plug it in.
- 1:11:58Speaker 4: And what's going to happen first is it goes through
- 1:12:00Speaker 4: this handshake routine where where the plug goes into the socket,
- 1:12:03Speaker 4: the socket grabs the plug so you can't withdraw it
- 1:12:06Speaker 4: while it's being charge and strike the world's biggest welding
- 1:12:09Speaker 4: up right, so you can feel the servo motor or
- 1:12:12Speaker 4: whatever it is trying or the solenoid trying to grab it.
- 1:12:16Speaker 4: And it's trying and failing right because the plug is worn.
- 1:12:20Speaker 4: There's nothing wrong with the car. But at this stage
- 1:12:24Speaker 4: I've exhausted all charging opportunities. I can't get back to
- 1:12:27Speaker 4: Sydney without making this work. So I have five or
- 1:12:30Speaker 4: six cracks at it, and on the sixth crack, it
- 1:12:32Speaker 4: grabs the plug and I go, yay. I knew i'd
- 1:12:35Speaker 4: get there eventually, but what a prick to ease right.
- 1:12:38Speaker 4: And then so I get home, but I'm making these
- 1:12:41Speaker 4: plans to call Kiir and say, hey, if you want
- 1:12:43Speaker 4: your EV six back, it's parked in the back lot
- 1:12:46Speaker 4: here and I'm hitching a ride with somebody.
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: Else and there's my uber bill as well.
- 1:12:51Speaker 4: But that was a better story than reviewing the EV six,
- 1:12:54Speaker 4: because this is the reality of the whole deal, and
- 1:12:56Speaker 4: if I'd bought an EV six in Canberra, dropped eighty
- 1:13:00Speaker 4: thousand dollars and my own money on it, and that
- 1:13:02Speaker 4: was my first impression of driving it to Sydney, which
- 1:13:06Speaker 4: hypothetically should be a piece of piss, I'd be gutted.
- 1:13:12Speaker 2: That's the issue, right. These car companies can't do really
- 1:13:15Speaker 2: anything about it, and that's why Tesla has been so
- 1:13:17Speaker 2: clever in the way that they've rolled out charging infrastructure
- 1:13:20Speaker 2: and they're now charging brands. I mean in the States now,
- 1:13:22Speaker 2: Ford and I think GM have now said that they're
- 1:13:25Speaker 2: moving to Tesla's charging standards. They've moved away from CCS
- 1:13:28Speaker 2: or the type one plug, So I think that that's
- 1:13:31Speaker 2: a sign of things to come. But it's also bad
- 1:13:33Speaker 2: news if you own a Tesla because you had these
- 1:13:35Speaker 2: exclusive charges that were only yours, that are now very
- 1:13:38Speaker 2: busy during public holidays, that very shortly will be accessible
- 1:13:41Speaker 2: by everyone who doesn't own a Tesla.
- 1:13:43Speaker 4: Where's the grid upgrade program? Like if you're some rich
- 1:13:48Speaker 4: wanka in a in observatory tower down there in Kent Street, right,
- 1:13:54Speaker 4: I know someone who lives there, So there are no
- 1:13:58Speaker 4: EV charges in that car park I've ever seen anyway.
- 1:14:01Speaker 4: If you want to upgrade that, where's the power going
- 1:14:03Speaker 4: to come from? Because if you wanted to put a
- 1:14:07Speaker 4: seven killer watt charger in every one of those parking
- 1:14:10Speaker 4: spaces for the electric utope ere of the future, where's
- 1:14:14Speaker 4: the local grid upgrade? Where are they rolling that out?
- 1:14:17Speaker 4: I'm not seeing a whole bunch of NBN style dudes
- 1:14:21Speaker 4: in pickup trucks, you know, putting big, bigger, fatter wires
- 1:14:25Speaker 4: in the street.
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: Yeah, that's what turned me off, actually, because my apartment
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: building wouldn't allow you know, charging stations at all.
- 1:14:32Speaker 2: Didn't you do that?
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:14:33Speaker 2: I was just about to say, many of them won't.
- 1:14:36Speaker 2: And the only way to get around it is to
- 1:14:37Speaker 2: do it. We've just done at our place, and basically
- 1:14:40Speaker 2: that is rolling out an initiative to install av charges
- 1:14:44Speaker 2: and I'll explain how it works and the cost of it.
- 1:14:47Speaker 2: So we ran cable trays through the entire car park,
- 1:14:50Speaker 2: We install Wi Fi through the entire car park for
- 1:14:53Speaker 2: cars to do upgrades and whatever. And then what we
- 1:14:55Speaker 2: did is we did a load study on our incoming
- 1:14:58Speaker 2: supply over seven days to look at peak and troughs,
- 1:15:01Speaker 2: and then what we did is determined overhead supply deducted
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: a safety margin and that was your EV capacity. Then
- 1:15:08Speaker 2: what happens is there's a load manager, and what it
- 1:15:10Speaker 2: does is it constantly reads the incoming supply to tell
- 1:15:14Speaker 2: you how much you have in terms of buffer, and
- 1:15:16Speaker 2: then as the EV's plug in, it'll ramp up and
- 1:15:19Speaker 2: ramp down EV. So if it's off peak, you can
- 1:15:21Speaker 2: have up to seven odd killer wats, and if it's
- 1:15:24Speaker 2: on peak, they'll ramp it down to a killer WAT
- 1:15:26Speaker 2: potentially if they're all plugged in at once. Yeah, all great,
- 1:15:30Speaker 2: except for our apartment which has one hundred and seventy
- 1:15:33Speaker 2: five units just on the mass. That's about seventy odd
- 1:15:43Speaker 2: thousand dollars for that upgrade so far. And there's a
- 1:15:45Speaker 2: couple of extra bits and pieces that need to happen. Now.
- 1:15:47Speaker 2: A lot of apartment buildings if you look at it
- 1:15:49Speaker 2: these days in the news body corporates don't have a
- 1:15:52Speaker 2: cent to spare shows. Has been well managed because i'm
- 1:15:54Speaker 2: the chair, but it's been a well managed terms of budget,
- 1:15:57Speaker 2: and we have this overhead. If you don't have that
- 1:15:59Speaker 2: over head and you rent, or even if you rent
- 1:16:02Speaker 2: and you don't own, it is very hard slash impossible
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: to have an EV that you can charge at home,
- 1:16:07Speaker 2: which is ideally for us. We only ever, you know,
- 1:16:10Speaker 2: we've done twenty thousand k's in hours now over the
- 1:16:12Speaker 2: period of a year. We basically only have a drive
- 1:16:15Speaker 2: to Geelong or to Ballarat to see families. It's one
- 1:16:17Speaker 2: hundred and ten hundred and twenty k's away. If I'm
- 1:16:19Speaker 2: driving further, I park the EV. If it's a long weekend,
- 1:16:22Speaker 2: I park the EV and we'll take our other car
- 1:16:25Speaker 2: because I don't want to get trapped with a two
- 1:16:27Speaker 2: year old winging in the back seat at a charger
- 1:16:29Speaker 2: when I'm tenth in Q waiting who knows how long.
- 1:16:32Speaker 2: And that's that's the reality, and people don't like that.
- 1:16:34Speaker 2: When I mention it, I'm a public enemy number one
- 1:16:37Speaker 2: of the Tesla Model three Model Y Owners club on Facebook.
- 1:16:40Speaker 2: I had to leave the group because there's so many
- 1:16:42Speaker 2: just fuckwits in there.
- 1:16:44Speaker 4: But EV's are a religion. Yeah, there's a group in
- 1:16:47Speaker 4: society for whom EV's are a religion. It's not unlike
- 1:16:51Speaker 4: gun culture in the United States.
- 1:16:52Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 1:16:53Speaker 4: You can't make logical arguments with EV zealots.
- 1:16:58Speaker 2: You just came exactly, And a lot of the time
- 1:16:59Speaker 2: it's their first new car or the newest car they've
- 1:17:03Speaker 2: had for a while, and they're blown away with all
- 1:17:05Speaker 2: these features, like yeah, when I put the indicator on,
- 1:17:07Speaker 2: the thing comes up on the screen. I'm like, okay,
- 1:17:09Speaker 2: under key, you do that, Like it's yeah, Tesla didn't
- 1:17:12Speaker 2: invent this stuff. They really their self driving stuff is
- 1:17:16Speaker 2: horrendously bad. But no one, no one talks about this
- 1:17:19Speaker 2: because they don't want to admit that the thing they've
- 1:17:21Speaker 2: spent their life savings on is yeah good, Like it's great.
- 1:17:24Speaker 2: I like the car, but it is not this amazing
- 1:17:27Speaker 2: utopia of car.
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: I think they also get they love the fact that
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: they're in some sort of a group as well. I
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: guess generally, if you or anything to go by, those
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: people don't have a lot of friends, and so they
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: just like the feeling of belonging. And why not have
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: a belonging feeling to a big dickhead group?
- 1:17:46Speaker 2: That's anyway? All right, Well, this has gone a lot
- 1:17:49Speaker 2: longer than I thought it was going.
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, one quick thing, EV, right now.
- 1:17:53Speaker 4: What are you enjoying in just in EV? Yeah? Yeah, yeah,
- 1:17:55Speaker 4: the EV that I would really enjoy doesn't exist, because
- 1:17:58Speaker 4: I want an EV for about thirty five grand that's
- 1:18:00Speaker 4: only got one hundred and twenty k's of range. It's
- 1:18:02Speaker 4: a bit of a poverty shitter. That's your second car,
- 1:18:05Speaker 4: so that your big Humma or your diesel or something
- 1:18:09Speaker 4: can stay in the garage when you just need to
- 1:18:11Speaker 4: nip down to the shops. You don't come back with,
- 1:18:13Speaker 4: you know, forty dozen cases of beer and some red meat.
- 1:18:17Speaker 2: Yeah, something, pretty much. They do have their benefits in
- 1:18:20Speaker 2: the city though. I know that whenever a fucking bus
- 1:18:23Speaker 2: drives past you or something fiant truck and you choke
- 1:18:25Speaker 2: to death on the side of the road, that kind
- 1:18:27Speaker 2: of stuff will be improved with EV's in the future.
- 1:18:29Speaker 2: But the funny thing is the ones that produce all
- 1:18:32Speaker 2: that buses and trucks don't really work well as EV's
- 1:18:35Speaker 2: at the moment.
- 1:18:35Speaker 4: So Australia's got a real problem with that though too,
- 1:18:38Speaker 4: because in Europe, if you've got a bustard asshole truck,
- 1:18:43Speaker 4: as trucks get older, they move west. Yes, yes, so
- 1:18:45Speaker 4: the move east, they move to eastern Europe right. And
- 1:18:49Speaker 4: in America, when trucks go from new to old they
- 1:18:53Speaker 4: go south, so they go through Mexico and Columbia. So
- 1:18:56Speaker 4: all the evil, pollution belching shitters are going to the
- 1:19:00Speaker 4: less socioeconomically affluent places. And in Australia, what happens is
- 1:19:05Speaker 4: your old truck stops doing long haul and it starts
- 1:19:08Speaker 4: picking up containers in botany or something and taking the
- 1:19:11Speaker 4: marning wood. So the oldest trucks on our roads, which
- 1:19:15Speaker 4: have no fundamental pollution control, emitting the most toxic carcinogenic shit,
- 1:19:21Speaker 4: are driving through the most populous regions in the nation,
- 1:19:24Speaker 4: which past schools, which is not that fucking stupid, is it?
- 1:19:28Speaker 4: You know, like, come on, so evs will clean up
- 1:19:31Speaker 4: the tailpipe back, but there's no there's no real political
- 1:19:34Speaker 4: will to do that with our most polluting vehicles because
- 1:19:37Speaker 4: that would be an attack on battler's because that's who
- 1:19:39Speaker 4: picks up containers.
- 1:19:40Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly, And that's the double edged sword. I also
- 1:19:42Speaker 2: don't want them spending all of my taxpayer dollars to
- 1:19:45Speaker 2: help some wealthy person buy an EV unless they are
- 1:19:49Speaker 2: thirty odd grand. The guy that's buying one hundred thousand
- 1:19:52Speaker 2: dollars EV doesn't need an incentive or some ability to
- 1:19:55Speaker 2: reduce the amount they're spending on it. I mean, that's
- 1:19:57Speaker 2: just ridiculous.
- 1:19:58Speaker 4: I don't think the car industry can supply them in
- 1:20:01Speaker 4: the requisite volumes anyway, because there's fifteen million light vehicles
- 1:20:04Speaker 4: on the roads in Australia. And if we were miraculously
- 1:20:08Speaker 4: to get our hands on half a million EV's a year, right,
- 1:20:13Speaker 4: it's going to take thirty years to replace combustion. So
- 1:20:16Speaker 4: people who think that this transition is happening and it's
- 1:20:18Speaker 4: miraculous and it will be wake up one day like
- 1:20:22Speaker 4: this and all of a sudden it's all evs. Well,
- 1:20:25Speaker 4: you wouldn't want to be fifty thinking that.
- 1:20:26Speaker 2: I am amazed how quick though, that.
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: The marketing and everything that goes with it has really
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: been up in the last even eighteen months for evs,
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: Like I remember when we first started this, right, I
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: remember one of the first news stories we were talking
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: about was within two years out he thinks they're going
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: to make more money on their evs And I.
- 1:20:47Speaker 2: Was like, has changed? What?
- 1:20:49Speaker 4: Yeah, But these statements are not held up to subsequent scrutiny.
- 1:20:53Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 1:20:53Speaker 4: They're a good headline now. You know, in fifteen years
- 1:20:58Speaker 4: if that changes, if we get to twenty thirty five
- 1:21:01Speaker 4: and we can't actually ban combustion, because you can't get
- 1:21:05Speaker 4: enough in you can't get enough electric cars, and you know.
- 1:21:08Speaker 2: Most people can't afford them. Yeah, so if.
- 1:21:10Speaker 4: That happens, then we'll just change the narrative. Yeah, go
- 1:21:13Speaker 4: bit Youtope, you're on it.
- 1:21:15Speaker 2: Well now, to anyone listening at the moment, if there
- 1:21:19Speaker 2: is anything you want us to ask John, it would
- 1:21:21Speaker 2: be great to have him back on again and send
- 1:21:22Speaker 2: us through your questions, you know, just anything you want
- 1:21:26Speaker 2: to know out out of him. I know that you
- 1:21:28Speaker 2: respond to a lot of people on your YouTube. Any
- 1:21:30Speaker 2: sort of weird shit people have asked you. Do you
- 1:21:32Speaker 2: have any sort of weird fans?
- 1:21:34Speaker 4: Is there ever a day?
- 1:21:36Speaker 2: So nice, very quickly tell the story. Yesterday we caught
- 1:21:39Speaker 2: up with John for a coffee and as we're walking
- 1:21:43Speaker 2: to the coffee place, this bloke stops us and he goes, sorry,
- 1:21:47Speaker 2: I just wanted to stop you for a second. All
- 1:21:50Speaker 2: your videos. I thought he was talking to me because
- 1:21:52Speaker 2: he was a younger bloke, and I thought, okay, of course,
- 1:21:55Speaker 2: he just looked straight past me and looked at John
- 1:21:58Speaker 2: and who's made a glow by day. My favorite part
- 1:22:03Speaker 2: was he goes, oh, by the way, one of my
- 1:22:05Speaker 2: really good mates does YouTube videos as well. You should
- 1:22:08Speaker 2: check them out. His name's Tom Baker. I just said, mate,
- 1:22:12Speaker 2: your copy too much of an avid viewer because he's
- 1:22:15Speaker 2: currently under a bus at the moment.
- 1:22:17Speaker 4: When was the last time you've spoken?
- 1:22:20Speaker 2: That was a That was a fun story. But do
- 1:22:22Speaker 2: you get sort of randos and stuff all the time.
- 1:22:24Speaker 4: Like here's the thing. I was on TV for twenty
- 1:22:27Speaker 4: years right regularly on top like Current Affair and today
- 1:22:31Speaker 4: tonight they were top rating shows even though you know
- 1:22:33Speaker 4: it's trash. Robson was a bloody sort what neighbors, neighbors
- 1:22:39Speaker 4: at war? What's in meat? Miracle underwear? That all vegetables?
- 1:22:43Speaker 4: Are they really healthy?
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:22:46Speaker 4: That psychics? What's your cat really thinking? So hardly ever
- 1:22:51Speaker 4: got recognized but from YouTube. The difference between TV and
- 1:22:54Speaker 4: YouTube is you choose to watch YouTube, You choose the
- 1:22:57Speaker 4: specific thing that you're going to watch. So basically every
- 1:23:00Speaker 4: time I go out, I get recognized. It's amazing to me,
- 1:23:04Speaker 4: and it's never some some dickhead who wants to who
- 1:23:10Speaker 4: wants to knock your head off.
- 1:23:11Speaker 2: You know, it's interesting, isn't it, Because you get a
- 1:23:13Speaker 2: lot of people who and this is why I think
- 1:23:15Speaker 2: it's it's a vocal minority that you don't like you.
- 1:23:17Speaker 4: But there commenters aren't the whole audience. There a subset
- 1:23:21Speaker 4: of the audio.
- 1:23:22Speaker 2: Pisce week to do anything anyway because they're there on
- 1:23:24Speaker 2: a keyboard with anonymous underscore seven one six.
- 1:23:28Speaker 4: You know, Yeah, I'm not worried to me, I'm not
- 1:23:30Speaker 4: worried about the guy who the guy who says something
- 1:23:34Speaker 4: unsavory to you in the comments feed. I'd be a
- 1:23:37Speaker 4: little more potentially concerned about someone who just you know,
- 1:23:41Speaker 4: is quietly plotting world domination in his basement and he's
- 1:23:45Speaker 4: got me near the top of the list.
- 1:23:46Speaker 2: Get rid of that.
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: Tickets just a dartboard with your faith.
- 1:23:49Speaker 4: No, it's actually a much nicer experience. The really perverse
- 1:23:52Speaker 4: thing though, And there's no exception to this. No one
- 1:23:55Speaker 4: ever introduces himself yep, right, because they've already got a
- 1:23:58Speaker 4: relationship with you.
- 1:24:00Speaker 2: Yeah right, that's interesting.
- 1:24:02Speaker 4: That's cool because I've known you for six years. If
- 1:24:04Speaker 4: if I've known I don't walk up to Paul yea
- 1:24:06Speaker 4: and go oh, Paula.
- 1:24:09Speaker 2: Yeah, that's it. We do sometimes just to see what
- 1:24:12Speaker 2: kind of reaction you'd get. Yeah, if I had a brain,
- 1:24:15Speaker 2: and well look that was that was good fun. So yeah, look,
- 1:24:20Speaker 2: you do have any questions, shoot them through and we'll
- 1:24:23Speaker 2: see if we can get John back on again. Yeah.
- 1:24:24Speaker 4: I loved it.
- 1:24:25Speaker 2: We can talk talk ship. There's a lot of ship
- 1:24:28Speaker 2: to be spoken about. It's underrated.
- 1:24:29Speaker 4: Talking shit is underrated.
- 1:24:31Speaker 2: Absolutely. You know I love listening to podcasts when I'm
- 1:24:33Speaker 2: on a long drive, just especially this one. Yeah, yes,
- 1:24:38Speaker 2: of course, yes.
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: Then I'll get a text that you really shouldn't have
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: included that in the podcast. That's probably not a good idea.
- 1:24:46Speaker 4: Do you edit out the guests and Gordon just listen
- 1:24:48Speaker 4: to your own stuff?
- 1:24:49Speaker 2: Yeah, pretty much we did, so we take out the
- 1:24:51Speaker 2: soundtracks and then I won't even hear you guys. That
- 1:24:54Speaker 2: was a good laugh. Yeah, Jesus, a good question.
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: Funny, wasn't in sightful post stand in front of the mirror?
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: If only I could pull the pants off my own reflection.
- 1:25:06Speaker 2: Jesus, beautiful, excellent, Thanks guys, There you go. That was
- 1:25:12Speaker 2: That went much longer than expected, but it was really
- 1:25:15Speaker 2: good to catch up with John and just talk about stuff.
- 1:25:18Speaker 2: It is. It is funny how a lot of people
- 1:25:21Speaker 2: think that we all hate him and he hates us.
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: But I didn't even realize honestly, I didn't even know
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: you guys had beef.
- 1:25:28Speaker 2: I like him.
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: I like the fact that he calls people out and
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: he has an opinion, and I like the fact that
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: he's got an opinion, he's got an argument to back
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: it up, whether you agree or disagree.
- 1:25:36Speaker 2: I think that's really everyone's allowed to have an opinion.
- 1:25:39Speaker 2: That's the thing, framing how you like, and to be honest.
- 1:25:41Speaker 2: Whenever he roasts me or Elbows or Tony in a video,
- 1:25:46Speaker 2: we genuinely find it hilarious. So wow, he's got some zingers. Yes,
- 1:25:50Speaker 2: every time he does something, I get contacted by stacks
- 1:25:53Speaker 2: of different people on social like, oh my god, did
- 1:25:55Speaker 2: you see this? And I'm like, no, but how good
- 1:25:56Speaker 2: is it? People think, yeah? But anyway, But now let's
- 1:26:00Speaker 2: get on to a little bit of feedback. Okay, So
- 1:26:04Speaker 2: there is something a little bit troubling here. So on
- 1:26:06Speaker 2: on our Apple I tune, there is a person the
- 1:26:12Speaker 2: gone a Bit too Far question Mark question Mark question
- 1:26:14Speaker 2: Mark guy who left us a one star rating and
- 1:26:17Speaker 2: said that Paul, you have a.
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: Brand, Yeah, you have an engineering brand. So I just
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: assumed it was a fellow engineer or some bitchy person
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: from the car industry.
- 1:26:29Speaker 2: Or Daniel Daniel, but this person changed their rating, so
- 1:26:34Speaker 2: they changed it to five stars, left a comment. They
- 1:26:37Speaker 2: then removed that rating and brought it back again with
- 1:26:40Speaker 2: this comment titled Gordy has improved. Oh what I've improved?
- 1:26:46Speaker 2: But hold on, let's not get ahead of itself. Paul,
- 1:26:49Speaker 2: you have a brand to protect and Gordy is not
- 1:26:51Speaker 2: doing you any favors. The smutty humor is quite pathetic.
- 1:26:57Speaker 2: Congratulations on your recent gong. I think he is dong.
- 1:27:03Speaker 2: So thank you to that person for the nice bits
- 1:27:07Speaker 2: and the gaudy bits I don't really care about. But
- 1:27:09Speaker 2: who are you like? You just tell us who you
- 1:27:12Speaker 2: are and it's okay. You don't have to hide behind her.
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: You've got some sort of like secret of Mara Now well,
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: I mean, come on mate, one of many, I guess.
- 1:27:22Speaker 2: Let's go to the email.
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: You are big on the mums. Hey, apologies about our
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: emails lately. If you've sent us an email, please can
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: you resend it because our email system seems to be
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: a little bit down. Let's pull up some dms. This
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: one's from Garth. Thanks for contacting us, Garth. This is great.
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: I saw Paul's orgasm face after his G four RST review. No,
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: Donnor insight, Well, you be surprised she's pretty flexible that
- 1:27:49Speaker 1: she was wrapped around that rollcage. Jesus, why do I
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: have like an image of like Flubber that movie. Yeah,
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: so he sent us that. He also sent us Oh okay,
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: so do you know thet House boys?
- 1:28:01Speaker 2: No, but I've watched their content y Yeah.
- 1:28:02Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, he centers the I think he just wanted
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: our opinion on the Toyota Corolla hybrid or wheel dry.
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: But interesting? What else is he said? Seriously, we pay
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: so much money for boring cars. As we move to electrification,
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: it seems the gap from function to rip your tits
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: off is astronomical. Remember when the Ford Falcon was thirty
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: eight K to the ah, this is interesting, Yeah, to
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: the XR six Turbo it was like ten k. Now
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: spending forty k just to get the tires hot.
- 1:28:34Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, I actually think that's a really good point.
- 1:28:36Speaker 2: And my theory is that manufacturers are obviously moving to
- 1:28:40Speaker 2: electric vehicles, and what they're trying to do is make
- 1:28:44Speaker 2: you more comfortable with spending a lot more money, So
- 1:28:46Speaker 2: they up the price now so that when EV's come
- 1:28:49Speaker 2: there's a less of a bridge to gap, gap to
- 1:28:53Speaker 2: bridge one of the makes no sense. But yeah, I think
- 1:28:56Speaker 2: the problem with that is that some car companies that
- 1:28:59Speaker 2: haven't released models are just charging more for the same
- 1:29:01Speaker 2: thing that three or five years ago was significantly less.
- 1:29:05Speaker 2: The other problem as well is that this is going
- 1:29:08Speaker 2: to be their method of discounting. So now that they've
- 1:29:10Speaker 2: jacked the price up ten to fifteen to twenty percent,
- 1:29:13Speaker 2: they'll do a five or ten percent off deal friend
- 1:29:15Speaker 2: of financial year. But there's still five or ten percent
- 1:29:18Speaker 2: up from where they were three to five years ago,
- 1:29:21Speaker 2: where they were still making money. So I think it's
- 1:29:23Speaker 2: quite clear that people are really paying a lot for
- 1:29:26Speaker 2: cars at the moment, and it's not just one brand
- 1:29:27Speaker 2: that's doing it. So it is something to be aware
- 1:29:30Speaker 2: of and perhaps look at the second hand market if
- 1:29:32Speaker 2: that is a little less hard to bear.
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: This one thing is from Intrigued Coop.
- 1:29:39Speaker 2: Intriguing.
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: Okay, sorry, first of all, Intrigue, yere you go. Intrigued
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: Coop said, as this great photo of the goat car right,
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: shout out to little Pavlo riding his goat car. I
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: have to get to school, Papa, Can I thank the goat?
- 1:30:01Speaker 2: Did this at three am. I trying to sell my
- 1:30:03Speaker 2: or one and a half year old daughter. Is gold.
- 1:30:06Speaker 2: Good on you? Yeah, amazing.
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: We're sending that guy a little something something too. He's
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: in wa not fucked out the postage, just to he
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: can come and get it painted on it.
- 1:30:17Speaker 2: Where are you from?
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: Corrup Corp, Cory rap col core Ca PASSNIP.
- 1:30:24Speaker 2: I don't know. Over on the emails, we got an
- 1:30:27Speaker 2: email from Jean Paul Coverlin. Guys, this podcast rocks, keep
- 1:30:33Speaker 2: it up. Thank you. It's okay, So I'll reread it
- 1:30:36Speaker 2: out because he sent it to us. I just want
- 1:30:38Speaker 2: to let you know that I have intelligent information about
- 1:30:41Speaker 2: an already made Ford everest Raptor that has been built
- 1:30:44Speaker 2: and is currently stored at the Ford Geelong Compound. It's
- 1:30:48Speaker 2: only fifteen staff involved in the build. It is said
- 1:30:50Speaker 2: the raptor will not be made into production as the
- 1:30:53Speaker 2: cost of the unit compared to the Ford Ranger Raptor
- 1:30:56Speaker 2: is extremely more and it isn't viable to produce at
- 1:30:59Speaker 2: the time. It is said that the efest Raptor is
- 1:31:03Speaker 2: a better looking unit and has widened guards than the ute.
- 1:31:07Speaker 2: It will only go on display in the coming year
- 1:31:09Speaker 2: at the Goodwood Festival of Speed as a concept by
- 1:31:12Speaker 2: Ford Performance US and Seema.
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: Rumors, and it was built here in Geelong. Apparently interesting,
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: you go to Geelong a lot.
- 1:31:21Speaker 2: No yiga gig. This is great.
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: I just remember that it's.
- 1:31:28Speaker 2: The worst thing I've ever started. But yeah, interesting. I
- 1:31:32Speaker 2: believe that.
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: I believe what he saying is true. I reckon there
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: is one in existence in a bunker underneath. I hope
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: they Ford, HQ and Geelong.
- 1:31:39Speaker 2: It is a logical thing. If you have a look
- 1:31:40Speaker 2: at what range of Raptor has achieved recently. At one
- 1:31:42Speaker 2: it's class in the BAHA one thousand. They just finished
- 1:31:46Speaker 2: the Fink Desert Race here in Australia and it won
- 1:31:48Speaker 2: its class, their best production car, and they've just announced
- 1:31:52Speaker 2: that it's going to be doing Dakha. This is really
- 1:31:56Speaker 2: a roll cage, but it is fundamentally stock car. Pretty
- 1:32:00Speaker 2: bloody amazing. That is cool.
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: Oh you know what's starting to pop up in the
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: US actual physical versions of the nine to eleven DAKA.
- 1:32:09Speaker 2: Oh yeah, cool, looks it's an interesting car. See if
- 1:32:12Speaker 2: you park that next to the Lambo, the Strato Hurricane. Yeah,
- 1:32:16Speaker 2: I just reckon the nine to eleven looks so much better.
- 1:32:18Speaker 2: It just looks like it can actually do the stuff
- 1:32:20Speaker 2: that it's meant to do, whereas the Lamb beginning, I
- 1:32:22Speaker 2: don't know. I just feel like they've kind of just
- 1:32:24Speaker 2: done it for the psych of doing it. Oh, I'd
- 1:32:26Speaker 2: still love to check it out though.
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: Oh my god, I think the nine to eleven definitely
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: has more ground clearance, Like it does look like.
- 1:32:32Speaker 2: A pumped up more of a car. But man, there
- 1:32:36Speaker 2: would be something about that.
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: Yeah, mate, fucking move them an, I can check out
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: the strato.
- 1:32:46Speaker 2: That's good. If you did enjoy that episode, please, like
- 1:32:49Speaker 2: I said, let us know if you want to ask
- 1:32:52Speaker 2: John anything and get him back on.
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: We're definitely going to get back on it. He's actually
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: going to be doing a jelly wrestling.
- 1:32:57Speaker 2: Match with Trevor.
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: Oh.
- 1:32:59Speaker 2: I can't wait to see that.
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: It's gonna look like two lava lamps smashed together.
- 1:33:05Speaker 2: Yea, yeah, but yeah, we'll try and get Trevor back
- 1:33:08Speaker 2: on as well. Yeah, let us let us know what
- 1:33:10Speaker 2: you think of the show. Contact at the Driversshow dot com,
- 1:33:13Speaker 2: todau or on our socials and also, if you haven't
- 1:33:15Speaker 2: done already, please leave us a rating on the platform
- 1:33:18Speaker 2: that you're listening to share the podcast with your mates. Ye,
- 1:33:21Speaker 2: make sure everyone knows about it. We really appreciate the
- 1:33:24Speaker 2: support and all the comments that you guys leave us
- 1:33:26Speaker 2: all the time.
