- 0:41Speaker 1: Little Jimmy Sullivan, I remember there was a quarterback content.
- 0:45Speaker 1: He did say, Poppy beat out Jimmy Sullivans. That was
- 0:47Speaker 1: a really awkward answer. Mac has seventy nine in an eighth,
- 0:50Speaker 1: so he's in the ninetieth. Nothing related to the Patriots,
- 0:57Speaker 1: Like it was just crazy. What are you saying here?
- 1:00Speaker 1: Says here? Just tell us who the starter is? What
- 1:02Speaker 1: does it mean? Evan was funny because Evan was mad
- 1:05Speaker 1: before the game. You know, the fog is started, really
- 1:09Speaker 1: worried about the all twenty two. I got to bed
- 1:11Speaker 1: at three and I was up at six. You know
- 1:13Speaker 1: what I got, Paul, You know the you know this
- 1:15Speaker 1: sound that sounded like a fourteen year old boy stomping, stomping.
- 1:21Speaker 1: I get the dog licking me. You got to take
- 1:23Speaker 1: him for a walk and get him outside. No, he
- 1:25Speaker 1: had already been up, but he's just you know, he
- 1:28Speaker 1: likes My taste is Patriot's Unfiltered fueled by Duncan. All right,
- 1:35Speaker 1: welcome the Patriots Unfiltered. It is Wednesday here at Lett's Stadium,
- 1:39Speaker 1: a real Wednesday. Wednesday's Wednesday this week. And it's Paul,
- 1:42Speaker 1: it's me, it's Evan. He's here. Mike's under the weather.
- 1:46Speaker 1: He's not here. Yeah, no Mike, Yeah, no Mike today,
- 1:50Speaker 1: No Mike on the mic. I know. But it's a
- 1:51Speaker 1: good day to have Evan here because it's all this
- 1:54Speaker 1: talk about what what does the offense look you know
- 1:58Speaker 1: with Matt Verse, what it looks like with Zappy? Are
- 2:01Speaker 1: they calling different plays? Are they you know, the whole thing.
- 2:05Speaker 1: So it's good to have Evan here because he did
- 2:08Speaker 1: break it down. You can see it on Patriots dot com.
- 2:10Speaker 1: But I'm sure he's got other things to add here.
- 2:13Speaker 1: And you know, there's just so much swirling right now
- 2:16Speaker 1: with the Patriots. And I would say, if if you
- 2:18Speaker 1: took a poll, doesn't necessarily have to be Paul's pole,
- 2:22Speaker 1: But if you took a pole, I would think most
- 2:23Speaker 1: people are putting this whole thing on the coaches, as
- 2:27Speaker 1: they should quite frankly, because the best way I can
- 2:31Speaker 1: describe it, because I know Zappy went on radio yesterday
- 2:33Speaker 1: and said, we got the same game plan, right, We're
- 2:37Speaker 1: going off the same script. But the best way I
- 2:39Speaker 1: can describe it is if the three of us go
- 2:41Speaker 1: out to dinner and we order off the same menu,
- 2:44Speaker 1: but we all order different things. We didn't have the
- 2:47Speaker 1: same thing for dinner, right. You know, just because they're
- 2:50Speaker 1: going in to the game with the same script doesn't
- 2:53Speaker 1: mean the players are coming out in the same order
- 2:56Speaker 1: but at the same time, etc. But let me ask
- 2:58Speaker 1: you a question there, and I hear you, but what
- 3:01Speaker 1: like would the script have been the same for Zappy
- 3:04Speaker 1: if he started as it was for Mac, and then
- 3:08Speaker 1: with the way things transpired, if Mack had come in
- 3:11Speaker 1: after the third series of doing nothing, would they have
- 3:15Speaker 1: called similar place to what they? You know, So there's
- 3:17Speaker 1: so many elements right now, I'm gonna go with it.
- 3:19Speaker 1: They set Mac up to Phil, Yeah, I don't make
- 3:21Speaker 1: a lot more sense. I don't think, right, but that's
- 3:24Speaker 1: what some people are saying. People, Yeah, do you realize that?
- 3:27Speaker 1: Not really? But anyway, what do you mean not really?
- 3:29Speaker 1: People are saying like not anybody of substances. No, no, no,
- 3:32Speaker 1: no, no no, no, no, I'm not talking I'm talking about fans.
- 3:35Speaker 1: They're sabotaging Mac right, yeah, yeah, no, I don't think
- 3:39Speaker 1: it runs that deep by any means, But I think
- 3:41Speaker 1: what you do see And look, I thought it last
- 3:45Speaker 1: two nights ago. It's it's it's been a couple of
- 3:47Speaker 1: days here two nights ago on Monday night in the
- 3:50Speaker 1: press box and I was like, here's the first snap.
- 3:52Speaker 1: He hasn't played a game in three weeks, and we're
- 3:56Speaker 1: a shotgun eleven personnel from the twenty three yard right
- 4:00Speaker 1: off the bat, like we're not easing them into it
- 4:02Speaker 1: at all. And then he gets to the line of
- 4:04Speaker 1: scrimmage and he's checking out of a play. He's getting
- 4:07Speaker 1: them into a run because he's getting a look he
- 4:10Speaker 1: doesn't like for the past, And all of a sudden,
- 4:12Speaker 1: you have all of this on Mac Jones's play, Like no,
- 4:16Speaker 1: like easy little slant route or hitch or you know,
- 4:20Speaker 1: quick read out of the you know, or an under
- 4:23Speaker 1: center play action goferbid right, Like, none of that. It's
- 4:27Speaker 1: instantly right back into the offense that we saw in
- 4:30Speaker 1: the first three weeks of the season. I mean they
- 4:32Speaker 1: are coming out on first and ten from the twenty
- 4:36Speaker 1: five like a drive starter play, and they're running three
- 4:40Speaker 1: vertical routes up the field, and I'm just thinking to myself, like,
- 4:44Speaker 1: this is a an offense. This is a chucking duck offense, right,
- 4:47Speaker 1: This is Bruce arians this is no risk it, no
- 4:50Speaker 1: biscuit like whatever you want to call it. And b
- 4:53Speaker 1: they're just trying to get his feet wet and then
- 4:55Speaker 1: they take him out of the game. So clearly the
- 4:57Speaker 1: idea for him playing on Monday night was to knock
- 5:00Speaker 1: some of the rustoff and instead of easing him back
- 5:03Speaker 1: in or making it easier for him to kind of
- 5:06Speaker 1: segue back into the offense, they're running you know, post wheel,
- 5:10Speaker 1: they're running why cross, they're running all these vertical passing
- 5:13Speaker 1: concepts that you see in other places. Well, I just
- 5:16Speaker 1: don't get it. One of the plays that you outline
- 5:18Speaker 1: it was the overthrow of Taekwon Thornton. Yeah, was Hunter
- 5:21Speaker 1: Henry open underneath? Yeah? Could he have chosen him or
- 5:25Speaker 1: I think he could. But in that instance, my guess,
- 5:28Speaker 1: and you know it's just an educated guess. But when
- 5:31Speaker 1: he sees the blitz, Tae Kwon's the hot right like
- 5:34Speaker 1: you have. If you get the blitz, you're one on
- 5:37Speaker 1: one on the outside. So because there's no check down,
- 5:40Speaker 1: the running back is in to stay in the protection
- 5:43Speaker 1: to pick up the blitz. You're hot is the vertical
- 5:45Speaker 1: on the outside. So he just takes basically like a
- 5:48Speaker 1: one step drop and throws it at that point. So yeah,
- 5:51Speaker 1: if he had a chance to sit there and read
- 5:52Speaker 1: out the play, then I think he probably don't take
- 5:55Speaker 1: at that time. That's yeah, okay, yeah, I was wondering
- 5:57Speaker 1: about the timing of it, like did he even have
- 6:00Speaker 1: time to see Henry? I think yeah. I think it's
- 6:02Speaker 1: more of like a predetermined read on a play like that,
- 6:05Speaker 1: because if you get the blitz, you have to you
- 6:08Speaker 1: have to get the ball out right, You're not gonna
- 6:10Speaker 1: sit there and read out the progression in the same
- 6:12Speaker 1: way that you would if it was just a standard rush.
- 6:15Speaker 1: But that's a play is a great example because it's
- 6:17Speaker 1: it's first and ten, right, It's first and ten from
- 6:20Speaker 1: like the twenty three yard line. Now it's a well
- 6:22Speaker 1: timed blitz by Chicago. First down is not usually a
- 6:25Speaker 1: blitz down, right, you see, blitz is on third downs
- 6:29Speaker 1: things like that most of the time. So they might
- 6:31Speaker 1: not have been anticipating blitz there, but it could have
- 6:33Speaker 1: been a run blitz that turned into it. Yeah, it
- 6:36Speaker 1: was a slot blitz. Yeah, and you're not really anticipating
- 6:39Speaker 1: blitz there, I guess. But at the same time, it's
- 6:42Speaker 1: still a vertical pass concept that they're trying to run
- 6:45Speaker 1: on first down from the twenty three yard line. Like,
- 6:48Speaker 1: there's times and places, you know, everybody says, well, you
- 6:51Speaker 1: last year, everybody was saying, let Matt cook, like what
- 6:54Speaker 1: do you want you know, you want him to open
- 6:56Speaker 1: it up or do you want them to play conservatively?
- 6:59Speaker 1: I just think there's a time and place for both things, right,
- 7:02Speaker 1: And when you're starting a drive, everybody talks about drive starters,
- 7:07Speaker 1: like that's so important for a quarterback, especially early on
- 7:10Speaker 1: in the game in the opening script, to just have
- 7:13Speaker 1: that first pass play, even if it's a five yard completion,
- 7:17Speaker 1: just have it hit right. And you see with Bailey
- 7:19Speaker 1: z Appy he comes into the game and I laugh
- 7:21Speaker 1: because the very first play of the game that Bailey
- 7:25Speaker 1: Zappy throws a pass, it's just a five yard hitch
- 7:27Speaker 1: to Johnny Smith on a hospital ball. By the way,
- 7:32Speaker 1: it's just a five yard It's just a five yard pass.
- 7:36Speaker 1: And it's like, you know, to the left side, he's
- 7:39Speaker 1: got slammed flat. To the right side, he's got flat
- 7:42Speaker 1: with the hit trout from the tight end, and nobody's
- 7:44Speaker 1: running up the field. These are all short options no
- 7:48Speaker 1: matter where he looks or where he throws the ball.
- 7:51Speaker 1: And yeah, when Matt comes in, it's bombs away, like
- 7:54Speaker 1: there's just it's right in front of you. It's I
- 7:58Speaker 1: don't know how you can't. I think every but he
- 8:00Speaker 1: sees it. Even people that just watch it on TV,
- 8:02Speaker 1: I think see the same example. But again, like if
- 8:04Speaker 1: had Zappy started, was that the game plan like we're
- 8:07Speaker 1: gonna catch him right away, We're gonna get that lead
- 8:10Speaker 1: fast and make them chase the whole game, And and
- 8:14Speaker 1: it didn't work. So by the time Zappy came in,
- 8:17Speaker 1: then they got a little bit more conservative. I don't know, Yeah,
- 8:20Speaker 1: you know, it's it's not totally outlets playing better than
- 8:24Speaker 1: Mac Like well he did that first half and the
- 8:28Speaker 1: two plays that they had success with with both bombs. Yeah,
- 8:31Speaker 1: like they're different. They're dressed up differently though, Right, It's
- 8:35Speaker 1: it's those are things that Zappy does better, and they
- 8:38Speaker 1: and they catered things to Zappy when he's in the game,
- 8:40Speaker 1: the things that Zappy does well as opposed to things
- 8:43Speaker 1: that Mac does. Yeah, I don't like. I just can't
- 8:45Speaker 1: buy this whole rift between the coaches wanting one guy
- 8:49Speaker 1: to succeed over the other. Right, I don't think it's
- 8:51Speaker 1: that's not buying it. I don't think it's that. I'm
- 8:53Speaker 1: not coming in and telling you that that there's some rift.
- 8:56Speaker 1: I'm just telling you what i'm seeing, and what I'm
- 8:58Speaker 1: seeing is is when they take a shot down the
- 9:01Speaker 1: field with Zappy, it's under center play action, seven guys
- 9:05Speaker 1: in the protection to keep them clean, and two or
- 9:07Speaker 1: three routes down the field that are one progression for
- 9:11Speaker 1: the quarterback to read out. It's not a full field progression.
- 9:14Speaker 1: It's right because I think they have to do that
- 9:16Speaker 1: for Zappy. They have to help him more than they
- 9:18Speaker 1: have to help I agree with that, Like, I think
- 9:21Speaker 1: that's good coaching. You can't just treat all your players
- 9:24Speaker 1: like they can all of the same strengths. Yeah, but
- 9:26Speaker 1: the problem is, I agree with you, but it's not
- 9:30Speaker 1: working for Mac. So maybe we're getting a little bit
- 9:34Speaker 1: too ahead of ourselves with Mac Jones' development and thinking.
- 9:37Speaker 1: That's a different argument. I could agree with that. You know,
- 9:39Speaker 1: we're we're skipping steps here. We're going from the training
- 9:43Speaker 1: wheels offense as I call it to you know, Bruce,
- 9:47Speaker 1: arians is no risk, it no biscuit with five men
- 9:51Speaker 1: in the in the route and everything. It seems to
- 9:53Speaker 1: me like there a lot of people were saying, you know,
- 9:55Speaker 1: when Mac was in there, things just weren't working. Zappy
- 9:59Speaker 1: comes in, they change it, it's working. Maybe once Mac
- 10:03Speaker 1: comes back, they'll take what they learn from Zappy and
- 10:05Speaker 1: just keep keep on that. That That was the hope. But
- 10:08Speaker 1: they seem to have not done that now, at least
- 10:11Speaker 1: to start the game with Mac. You know. So, but
- 10:15Speaker 1: it's I mean, we're definitely at a crossroads here. This
- 10:18Speaker 1: team is at a crossroads. It can you know, it's
- 10:20Speaker 1: one of those look in the mirror type of moments
- 10:23Speaker 1: that players talk about and they've they've had them before,
- 10:26Speaker 1: and that's the drama that I think Isa, Like, I know,
- 10:28Speaker 1: sometimes like we say, well we don't know how to
- 10:30Speaker 1: get into involved with the talk radio soap opera, and
- 10:33Speaker 1: we don't largely. I mean we have fun sometimes, but
- 10:36Speaker 1: this particular what you're bringing up, I think is highly
- 10:40Speaker 1: relevant to the football team. Yeah, there's guys here like
- 10:43Speaker 1: thinking what are we doing here? And are there or
- 10:47Speaker 1: is there a possibility or are there already Mac guys
- 10:51Speaker 1: and Zappy guys. Right right, that's the biggest thing that
- 10:53Speaker 1: you worry about. And also when you point to what
- 10:55Speaker 1: are we doing here? That goes back to training camp. Yeah,
- 10:58Speaker 1: I think there are a lot of guys and I
- 11:00Speaker 1: brought that up in my piece because I wanted to.
- 11:02Speaker 1: You know, this is not something that's just a one
- 11:05Speaker 1: game thing. You know people that are in my replies
- 11:08Speaker 1: being like, you're way over reacting to one game. It's like, no,
- 11:11Speaker 1: this has been going on the offense jot not looked
- 11:15Speaker 1: right since training can't right. I mean spring was different.
- 11:18Speaker 1: They were throwing the ball down field and guys were
- 11:20Speaker 1: making casual like wow, maybe they're gonna be doing but
- 11:22Speaker 1: once training camp started, even like seven on seven, it
- 11:28Speaker 1: didn't look right. Yeah, and it's been that way since then,
- 11:33Speaker 1: and you know we've been thinking, well, once the games start,
- 11:35Speaker 1: they'll they'll figure it out. Well, I thought that some
- 11:38Speaker 1: of the deep stuff that they were trying to do
- 11:40Speaker 1: was going to be more to sort of get that in,
- 11:44Speaker 1: you know, on tape, get it on tape, right, you know,
- 11:46Speaker 1: and so we'll see how that, you know. Unfortunately Mac
- 11:49Speaker 1: got hurt and you know, like three games in, he's out,
- 11:53Speaker 1: you know, for the next three games, and you don't
- 11:55Speaker 1: get to see how the offense progresses. I think that
- 11:58Speaker 1: they did the right thing with zap be not asking
- 12:00Speaker 1: him to do the same stuff. Yeah, because I think
- 12:02Speaker 1: that could have been disastrous. I mean, as it is,
- 12:04Speaker 1: he has six turnovers in the four games that he played,
- 12:08Speaker 1: you know, I mean, I think you have to treat
- 12:10Speaker 1: him differently because he doesn't have experience. So six turnovers
- 12:15Speaker 1: four games. But you say he's playing better than Mac. Oh,
- 12:18Speaker 1: I think I think he's made more place or is
- 12:20Speaker 1: the team functioning better than when Mac was in there?
- 12:23Speaker 1: You know what I mean, whether the quarterback gets the
- 12:26Speaker 1: credit for the offensive? I get production, right, The offense
- 12:28Speaker 1: has been more productive when Bailey's Appy has played quarterback
- 12:31Speaker 1: then it has with Mac Jones. But no, you're not wrong,
- 12:34Speaker 1: but Mac have done with I mean, you know how
- 12:36Speaker 1: I feel about mac Jones. I'm not telling you I
- 12:38Speaker 1: want to I want to cut ties. I think that
- 12:41Speaker 1: Bill should step forward, hopefully in about a half hour,
- 12:43Speaker 1: and say mac Jones is starting a quarterback, and by
- 12:46Speaker 1: the way, it would be the best thing supposed to
- 12:47Speaker 1: come up on the podium about twelve forty five when
- 12:49Speaker 1: he does, will go to him because I think it's
- 12:51Speaker 1: important to hear what he has I'm sure. But just
- 12:54Speaker 1: because I think that mac Jones is better doesn't mean
- 12:56Speaker 1: I'm right. No, I know, but could like from what
- 13:00Speaker 1: they asked Zappy to do, I'm sure Matt could have
- 13:02Speaker 1: done that too. Yeah, I think that there's you know,
- 13:06Speaker 1: that's just my opinion. I could be wrong too, but
- 13:09Speaker 1: that that's just my opinion. I think that there's some things,
- 13:12Speaker 1: like Paul was saying that I've tried to like slow
- 13:17Speaker 1: it down and break it down and try to figure
- 13:19Speaker 1: out exactly what is going on. But Zappy is a
- 13:24Speaker 1: much better under center play action passer than Mac is. Think.
- 13:28Speaker 1: I don't know what it is saying. I think that's
- 13:31Speaker 1: why they ask him to do it more. Yeah, think
- 13:33Speaker 1: he's better at it. I don't know what it is.
- 13:35Speaker 1: About Zappy's fakes compared to Max fakes. Maybe it's just
- 13:41Speaker 1: that a rookie quarterback is in there and they think
- 13:44Speaker 1: they're going to run the ball, and it's it's more
- 13:46Speaker 1: of a mindset sort of thing for the defense. But
- 13:50Speaker 1: for whatever reason, these defenses over the last three weeks,
- 13:54Speaker 1: even Chicago's defense, which played well on the whole, Obviously,
- 13:57Speaker 1: in that game, they see play action from Zap and
- 14:00Speaker 1: they are coming downhill at the line of scrimmage. It
- 14:03Speaker 1: pulls in the entire front seven. And then when you
- 14:06Speaker 1: see Mac, I mean, there's a play that's circulating around
- 14:08Speaker 1: the Twitter sphere that that Mac has Jacobe Myers down
- 14:13Speaker 1: the sideline off of under center play action and doesn't
- 14:16Speaker 1: hit it. But what is bigger to me in that
- 14:19Speaker 1: play is the linebacker. It's it's Tampa two, right, So
- 14:23Speaker 1: the linebacker carries the seame vertical and the linebacker that's
- 14:27Speaker 1: in the Tampa two doesn't react to the play action
- 14:31Speaker 1: like he doesn't fall step, he doesn't come downhill at
- 14:33Speaker 1: the line of scrimmage, and he gets right under Hunter
- 14:36Speaker 1: Henry's route. And that was Max's first read on the play,
- 14:39Speaker 1: and he ends up checking the ball down and complete
- 14:41Speaker 1: to Damien Harris for over the middle. It's the reaction
- 14:46Speaker 1: of the defense for whatever reason, is not the same
- 14:50Speaker 1: with Mac as it is was zappy and they are
- 14:53Speaker 1: just torching teams on play action. Was zappy sixteen yards
- 14:57Speaker 1: per attempt, like just absolutely going right down the field
- 15:02Speaker 1: on teams off of play action. And I think it
- 15:06Speaker 1: just is an interesting little thing that I've been trying
- 15:09Speaker 1: to dissect. I think I'm many needs some help from
- 15:12Speaker 1: like Dan Orlovsky or somebody like that that played quarterback
- 15:15Speaker 1: that can explain exactly why those fakes are just so
- 15:19Speaker 1: much more effective. When with Bailey, I noticed that some
- 15:21Speaker 1: like Mahomes is really good at it too, And like
- 15:24Speaker 1: some of the quarterbacks when they do play action, they slowed,
- 15:28Speaker 1: like the quarterback slows down while the running backs at
- 15:30Speaker 1: full speed. So your attention is at the motion, it's
- 15:33Speaker 1: at the movement and the movements all with the running back.
- 15:36Speaker 1: And meanwhile the quarterback still has the ball, but your
- 15:39Speaker 1: your focus is drawn to the guy who's moving faster. Yeah,
- 15:43Speaker 1: and that's the running back. And then you know, then
- 15:45Speaker 1: the quarterback gets into his stance and turns to face
- 15:49Speaker 1: the play. You know, like some guys are just better
- 15:53Speaker 1: at it, you're right, than others. I mean, Brady wasn't
- 15:56Speaker 1: great at it to start, he got better at it. Yeah,
- 15:58Speaker 1: I mean there's a lot of quarterback acts in the NFL,
- 16:01Speaker 1: you know. I think Matthew Stafford is one of these guys.
- 16:03Speaker 1: Just to give an example, out in Los Angeles and
- 16:06Speaker 1: the Rams before Stafford got there with Jared goff Or
- 16:09Speaker 1: a heavy, heavy play action team and we remember it
- 16:11Speaker 1: from the Super Bowl, you know, bootlegs, half boots, you know,
- 16:14Speaker 1: really really heavy on play action, and then Stafford got
- 16:17Speaker 1: there and he's like, you know, that's that's not really
- 16:19Speaker 1: my cup of tea. You know, I'm not I don't
- 16:21Speaker 1: really love turning my back to the defense and being
- 16:25Speaker 1: under center, and it's not really what I like to do.
- 16:28Speaker 1: So they've been a little bit more play action. You know,
- 16:30Speaker 1: they've kind of had him adjust a little bit, but
- 16:33Speaker 1: for the most part, they've evolved away away from that
- 16:37Speaker 1: kind of stuff because it's not what fitz Stafford and
- 16:40Speaker 1: I think in a lot of ways, Mac probably feels
- 16:42Speaker 1: the same way, like it's not really my comfort zone
- 16:44Speaker 1: to be under center, turned the back to the defense,
- 16:47Speaker 1: get back around one, two, three, and out like that's
- 16:49Speaker 1: not really my thing, and so they've been more shotgun.
- 16:52Speaker 1: I mean to be objective about Mac his week. You know,
- 16:55Speaker 1: one of the things we've seen that a week part
- 16:57Speaker 1: of his game is just, you know, once he set
- 17:00Speaker 1: on the guy, he's pretty accurate, but he's not always
- 17:02Speaker 1: aware of what's going on around that. He he tends
- 17:04Speaker 1: to get tunnel vision um down the field. Like most
- 17:08Speaker 1: of his interceptions were like, oh, I see the open
- 17:10Speaker 1: guy down the seam, but I don't see that guy
- 17:13Speaker 1: coming in from the left. Um. That's happened a lot
- 17:16Speaker 1: in practice too. I don't think he's played great like
- 17:20Speaker 1: and I like I said, I think that Mac Jones
- 17:23Speaker 1: should be the quarterback Sunday, you know whatever. But that
- 17:26Speaker 1: doesn't mean I'm like, well, you know, and for the
- 17:29Speaker 1: next seven years, that's how it shall be. Yeah, if
- 17:32Speaker 1: he continues. They're giving the ball away at an alarming rate.
- 17:36Speaker 1: I mean, they're they're giveaways are bottoms in the league. Yeah,
- 17:39Speaker 1: bottom of the league. And that's with both quarterbacks. Like
- 17:45Speaker 1: I said, Bailey's Appy has six turnovers in the four
- 17:47Speaker 1: games that he's played. And I say four because I
- 17:50Speaker 1: know he's two who as a starter, but he played
- 17:52Speaker 1: the whole game in the other two games, right, you know,
- 17:55Speaker 1: and he has six turnovers in four games. We can
- 18:00Speaker 1: explain them all away, like I understand, Like, you know,
- 18:03Speaker 1: a ball gets well, Matt's hit the wire. Did you
- 18:05Speaker 1: see that? You know it didn't, right, even if it did,
- 18:09Speaker 1: it didn't do anything, so it didn't hit the wire.
- 18:12Speaker 1: And in ESPN has actually put out a statement about it.
- 18:15Speaker 1: The passer mac Jones did not hit the ESPN skycam wire.
- 18:18Speaker 1: This video creates a false impression, but in reality, the
- 18:21Speaker 1: skycam wire was more than fifteen feet above the ball
- 18:23Speaker 1: in our skycam system followed all NFL protocols. It's absolutely
- 18:29Speaker 1: an optical illusion. Like the people were sending it to
- 18:32Speaker 1: me last night and I'm white film, but the ball
- 18:35Speaker 1: first of all, they all looked like doctored videos. But
- 18:38Speaker 1: I mean, whatever, the ball is spiraling, hits the wire
- 18:42Speaker 1: quote unquote and continues to spiral the same way, right,
- 18:46Speaker 1: It didn't change flight, right, And I was like, my
- 18:50Speaker 1: eyes are like playing trick like this. This doesn't really
- 18:52Speaker 1: look like it hits the wire, right, And I even
- 18:55Speaker 1: saw one that had like some fake noise that made
- 18:58Speaker 1: it go like this is kind of funny. Then I
- 19:02Speaker 1: woke up this morning and it was like everybody was
- 19:04Speaker 1: writing about it. Like I thought it was just a fan. Yeah,
- 19:06Speaker 1: someone sent it to me last night some unt I
- 19:09Speaker 1: didn't even recognize the Twitter handle, and then people started
- 19:13Speaker 1: like saying, did you guys see this? And I thought
- 19:15Speaker 1: it was kind of funny, but then it kind of
- 19:18Speaker 1: turned into a real thing. But I talked to Mike
- 19:20Speaker 1: Reese about it a little bit, and he said, we're
- 19:21Speaker 1: gonna be coming out with a statement about, well, they
- 19:23Speaker 1: didn't hit the wire. Yeah, so I didn't the wire either.
- 19:27Speaker 1: But again, just to keep harping on on what I'm seeing.
- 19:32Speaker 1: Second down and seven from like the forties yard line,
- 19:37Speaker 1: and they run another vertical concept post wheel. They have
- 19:40Speaker 1: a five man protection. The right side of the line
- 19:43Speaker 1: doesn't pass off the stunt properly, and he's under pressure
- 19:46Speaker 1: and he throws off his back foot and he's picked off.
- 19:48Speaker 1: This year, he has five interceptions already under pressure. He
- 19:52Speaker 1: had four all of last season. So they're just not
- 19:56Speaker 1: they're not He's not functioning well and they are running.
- 20:00Speaker 1: I'm not necessarily saying that they're sabotaging him or what
- 20:04Speaker 1: they're running has no merit or anything. Like that. But
- 20:07Speaker 1: Mac Jones is not playing well in the offense that
- 20:10Speaker 1: they are calling for him, and at some point in
- 20:12Speaker 1: time they have to look in the mirror. Mac has
- 20:15Speaker 1: to look in the mirror and they have to say,
- 20:17Speaker 1: these are the things that over the last two years,
- 20:20Speaker 1: not just this year, but over the last two years,
- 20:23Speaker 1: have worked for this guy, and this is what we're
- 20:25Speaker 1: gonna run. You know. He takes he completes that pass
- 20:28Speaker 1: to Hunter Henry twelve yard completion. They just you know,
- 20:31Speaker 1: they draw the zone inside. He throws an anticipation pass
- 20:34Speaker 1: like ten yards down the field and it's complete and
- 20:38Speaker 1: we're moving the chains like those are mac Jones's throws right, short, intermediate,
- 20:42Speaker 1: quick game, read it out, get the ball out, hit
- 20:45Speaker 1: the back foot, make a throw like all this stuff
- 20:48Speaker 1: of him seven step drops standing there looking vertically down
- 20:51Speaker 1: the field like this is not him, and they're asking
- 20:54Speaker 1: him to push the ball into windows that I just
- 20:57Speaker 1: don't think he has the arm talent to hit the passes,
- 21:00Speaker 1: you know, And that's I think another big part of
- 21:02Speaker 1: this and why the turnovers are happening so much, is
- 21:05Speaker 1: because he just doesn't have the arm strength all the time,
- 21:08Speaker 1: especially off platform when he's under a little bit of
- 21:10Speaker 1: pressure and he can't step into that, he can't push
- 21:14Speaker 1: it down the field. So again I go back to
- 21:16Speaker 1: that play that's circulating, which che Kobe Meyers, Like it's
- 21:20Speaker 1: in the cover two hole if Tampa two. But like,
- 21:23Speaker 1: there's like three quarterbacks in the league that can make
- 21:25Speaker 1: that throws. It's Josh Allen, it's Justin Herbert, it's Patrick Mahomes. Like,
- 21:29Speaker 1: if you're not one of those three guys, that's an
- 21:32Speaker 1: interception ten out of ten times. And I actually thought
- 21:35Speaker 1: it was a good decision not to throw the ball,
- 21:37Speaker 1: because these are the decisions that we've seen him make
- 21:40Speaker 1: and that he's been picked off on. And that's the
- 21:43Speaker 1: problem is what they're calling is asking him to do
- 21:45Speaker 1: things he's not good at. And whether he thinks that
- 21:47Speaker 1: this is the best thing for him because he wants
- 21:49Speaker 1: to air it out, or they think it's the best
- 21:51Speaker 1: thing because they want him to air it out, I
- 21:53Speaker 1: don't know. But either way, you have to come to
- 21:55Speaker 1: terms of the fact that this is just not the
- 21:57Speaker 1: quarterback that you drafted. If this is what you wanted,
- 21:59Speaker 1: then you should have drafted the quarterback he played on
- 22:02Speaker 1: Monday night, not not mac Jones. You know, if he
- 22:04Speaker 1: wanted a big arm quarterback to push the ball vertically
- 22:07Speaker 1: down the field, then he drafted the wrong guy. Yeah,
- 22:10Speaker 1: and I would agree with with Evan's assessment of mac Jones,
- 22:14Speaker 1: But I the only thing that I would sort of
- 22:16Speaker 1: push back. I just don't think he's playing well. I
- 22:19Speaker 1: don't think it's the fault of the play calls. I mean,
- 22:22Speaker 1: I think you can go with raw data and say
- 22:24Speaker 1: the interceptions themselves have happened on some of these plays.
- 22:28Speaker 1: And I agree again with Evan. I've seen him throw
- 22:32Speaker 1: the ball underneath right two defensive backs and have and
- 22:35Speaker 1: watch them drive. I saw a quick out against Baltimore,
- 22:37Speaker 1: dropped by Patrick Queen. I saw a little hitch route
- 22:40Speaker 1: that he kind of got off platform a little to
- 22:42Speaker 1: Evan's point about once he's off platform, the arm strength
- 22:45Speaker 1: is a little bit different. He tried to throw it
- 22:47Speaker 1: across his body, hit Cam Sutton for Pittsburgh right right
- 22:50Speaker 1: in the chest. Like these are not pushing the ball
- 22:53Speaker 1: downfield mistakes. They didn't result in interceptions because the other
- 22:56Speaker 1: team dropped them. So the actual interceptions of common balls
- 23:00Speaker 1: down field, I think he's played nowhere near as well
- 23:04Speaker 1: as he did nowhere near as efficiently as he did
- 23:07Speaker 1: last year on all on almost all throws. I just
- 23:10Speaker 1: don't think he looks right. But I think you got
- 23:12Speaker 1: to work through it. I think this is the guy
- 23:14Speaker 1: that you drafted in the first round. You're gonna figure out.
- 23:17Speaker 1: Like we said yesterday, Freddie, where you know, where are
- 23:20Speaker 1: you at the end of the year. Like, unless you're
- 23:24Speaker 1: you're like one thousand percent convinced does thatpy guy? People
- 23:30Speaker 1: are missing it, but he can do a B and C.
- 23:32Speaker 1: I think Bailey Zappy is Taylor Heinecke. I think he's
- 23:36Speaker 1: an undersized, scrappy kid who clearly has some energy that
- 23:42Speaker 1: the team feeds off of. That will be a backup
- 23:46Speaker 1: and you can live with him for for for short spurts.
- 23:50Speaker 1: I just think you kind of even saw it on
- 23:52Speaker 1: Monday night the second half as the game war on.
- 23:56Speaker 1: You know, let's face this, go it twice when they
- 24:00Speaker 1: took over at midfield, when they had to take over
- 24:02Speaker 1: at their own twenty five, they got no points, just
- 24:04Speaker 1: like they got no points when Mac Jones had to
- 24:05Speaker 1: take over its twenty five all night. Yeah, Like, I'm
- 24:08Speaker 1: not discounting what Billy Zappie has done he's a rookie,
- 24:12Speaker 1: he came in as a third string quarterback, and he
- 24:14Speaker 1: has done really well. Like, I'm not telling you this
- 24:17Speaker 1: kid stinks and doesn't even deserve to be talked about.
- 24:20Speaker 1: I'm just saying that in my opinions, he kind of
- 24:24Speaker 1: like still profiles as a backup to me. Yeah, And
- 24:28Speaker 1: I'm not trying to make excuses for Mac and say, oh,
- 24:30Speaker 1: you know, he's playing poorly just because of this, But
- 24:33Speaker 1: I do think that when you look at how teams
- 24:35Speaker 1: handle young quarterbacks across the league, and we always used
- 24:39Speaker 1: to laugh at the other teams that would ruin young quarterbacks,
- 24:42Speaker 1: right like, this is what you do to ruin a
- 24:43Speaker 1: young quarterback. The playbook is the Patriots are checking all
- 24:47Speaker 1: the boxes there. He transitions to a new offensive coordinator
- 24:52Speaker 1: in his second season that's not really an offensive coordinator.
- 24:55Speaker 1: Then they run a scheme that doesn't fit his style
- 24:57Speaker 1: of play, doesn't fit his skill set. And I think
- 25:00Speaker 1: the decisions that Paul's talking about on some of the
- 25:02Speaker 1: shorter throws are absolutely valid. But this is a nurture issue,
- 25:06Speaker 1: right Like, I don't think that Mac makes there's many
- 25:10Speaker 1: mistakes in that type of way. If everything else is
- 25:15Speaker 1: cleaner for him is everything, you know, I think his
- 25:17Speaker 1: whole decision making process, I mean, especially under pressure, where
- 25:21Speaker 1: he's one of the worst rated quarterbacks in the league
- 25:24Speaker 1: right now with pressure. I think all these things go
- 25:27Speaker 1: back to the fact that he's just not comfortable with
- 25:30Speaker 1: what they're running, you know. And one of the other
- 25:31Speaker 1: things about the game is, you know, we're all like, well,
- 25:33Speaker 1: Win's out, that's no big loss. But having win in
- 25:37Speaker 1: Cannon in there I think helped. That's when they ran better,
- 25:41Speaker 1: is when they had that tackle eligible and they you know,
- 25:44Speaker 1: so they kind of missed that when Win wasn't in
- 25:47Speaker 1: there being able to do that because they didn't run
- 25:50Speaker 1: the ball. Well, yeah, they didn't run it well against
- 25:52Speaker 1: Cleveland either. I don't think they've ran the ball well
- 25:54Speaker 1: from a blocking standpoint in three weeks. I think that
- 25:56Speaker 1: a Detroit game, ormondre put the team on his back
- 25:59Speaker 1: and had one hundred eleven yards after contact out of
- 26:01Speaker 1: one sixty. These last three games, there have been some
- 26:06Speaker 1: blocking breakdowns in the run game for sure, and teams
- 26:08Speaker 1: are starting to stack the box again, especially against Zappi.
- 26:12Speaker 1: But even against Mac on Sunday night, I mean they
- 26:14Speaker 1: or Monday night they're you know, eleven personnel shotgun and
- 26:17Speaker 1: they are still got eight guys in the box, like
- 26:19Speaker 1: they just don't care, you know, So they're loading the
- 26:21Speaker 1: box against them, and you know, they're struggling to run
- 26:25Speaker 1: block right now in general, and I think that there's
- 26:29Speaker 1: some elements to it that have worked in their favor
- 26:31Speaker 1: because the play action has been so successful because teams
- 26:33Speaker 1: are attacking the line of scrimmage against them, but they
- 26:36Speaker 1: have to figure out ways to be able to run
- 26:37Speaker 1: the ball and go back to having that be part
- 26:40Speaker 1: of their identity. Really, this is something that's been on
- 26:43Speaker 1: my radar since the Lions game because Romandre he ran
- 26:47Speaker 1: his butt off in that Detroit game and really was
- 26:50Speaker 1: a big reason why they got a lot of those
- 26:52Speaker 1: yards even against Detroit. Tamara joins us, anything on your mind?
- 26:57Speaker 1: What are you thinking about thinking about the heavy size? Yeah,
- 27:02Speaker 1: a lot of heavy size with Samara. I know, just
- 27:08Speaker 1: I honestly, I feel like I'm in a fog kind
- 27:12Speaker 1: of like the weather outside in terms of like do
- 27:16Speaker 1: that fever created a fog? Is that what you're saying?
- 27:19Speaker 1: Monday night game? The Monday night game. I just feel
- 27:22Speaker 1: like and the fog is still outside Mondays are tough
- 27:25Speaker 1: because you have the whole week after the night game,
- 27:27Speaker 1: Like Thurst Day, You're like, ah, the weekends here right now. Yeah,
- 27:30Speaker 1: it's tough. Yeah, but I'm hoping that the locker room
- 27:33Speaker 1: doesn't feel the same like drugginess is, like, you know,
- 27:37Speaker 1: dragging on from what happened on Monday night. I'm hoping
- 27:40Speaker 1: that they've already turned the page. I hope. I hope
- 27:43Speaker 1: their actions match their words. Like, you know, obviously obviously
- 27:47Speaker 1: they say like we're turning the page to the Jets,
- 27:49Speaker 1: but like, I hope that they've mentally turned the page
- 27:51Speaker 1: to the Jets. Yeah, I need to mentally turn the
- 27:54Speaker 1: page to the Jets. Yeah. Like I said, they've had
- 27:57Speaker 1: these low points before. Yeah, and you know they've come
- 28:01Speaker 1: out of some of them. Um, most of the time
- 28:03Speaker 1: they were able to turn it around. But you know,
- 28:05Speaker 1: you had Tom Brady. Um. But you know, Bill knows
- 28:10Speaker 1: what to say in these moments. The question is who's listening? Yeah,
- 28:14Speaker 1: you know, and that's what we're gonna find out. And
- 28:16Speaker 1: do they like what they hear? Yeah, yep, yeah, if
- 28:18Speaker 1: if it was Look, I said this about Bill on
- 28:21Speaker 1: Tuesday morning, and he didn't do it. Either. But to me,
- 28:25Speaker 1: like the best example is like the Cowboys, right when
- 28:29Speaker 1: Dak got hurt, there was Dak is the quarterback, Like
- 28:33Speaker 1: there's no question, like in anybody's mind in the organization.
- 28:38Speaker 1: Jerry Jones comes out and says it. McCarthy comes out
- 28:41Speaker 1: and says it like this is our qb end of story,
- 28:46Speaker 1: whether he tells them behind closed doors and just doesn't
- 28:49Speaker 1: share it publicly or not for some reason. And I
- 28:52Speaker 1: think you two can speak to this like for some
- 28:54Speaker 1: reason there's saying it publicly like matters in this sport,
- 28:58Speaker 1: being like this is our guy and this is what
- 29:00Speaker 1: we're doing. It matters more than any other sport that
- 29:04Speaker 1: I can think of, because there's not really any equivalent
- 29:07Speaker 1: to the quarterback in other sports. And I think him
- 29:10Speaker 1: coming up to the podium and saying, look Max the quarterback. Wait.
- 29:15Speaker 1: But but I have heard coaches say this is our
- 29:18Speaker 1: guy and then two seconds later they get another one.
- 29:20Speaker 1: So for example, the Panthers, Sam Donald is our guy.
- 29:24Speaker 1: We're not interested in Baker Mayfield, we're not interested in him.
- 29:26Speaker 1: We've got our guy, and then it's like two months
- 29:29Speaker 1: later Baker yeah, So like yeah, the Cardinals, Yeah, you
- 29:33Speaker 1: finally came out and said, Sam, Donald is your guy?
- 29:36Speaker 1: Looks like he wasn't your guy. Yeah, but that was
- 29:38Speaker 1: after he played. No, Like during the draft they were like, oh,
- 29:41Speaker 1: there were reports going around like oh, they're going to
- 29:44Speaker 1: pick up Baker, right, but Donald had played portally for them.
- 29:47Speaker 1: It's my point, like mac Jones went ten and seven,
- 29:50Speaker 1: went to the playoffs, got hurt, and like there was
- 29:53Speaker 1: radio silence. So like Tavin's point, now, I also get you.
- 29:58Speaker 1: I'll argue with myself because that's what I um. You
- 30:01Speaker 1: know Dak Prescott here and you know mac Jones is
- 30:06Speaker 1: down here. They're not exactly the same thing. But I
- 30:09Speaker 1: do think Bill should have recognized the potential for having
- 30:14Speaker 1: what happened, Ye happened right, and nipped it in the bud.
- 30:17Speaker 1: And I think instead he kind of fanned the flames.
- 30:21Speaker 1: Do you think that do you think he I guess, like,
- 30:25Speaker 1: do you think that he knew Zappy would go out
- 30:27Speaker 1: there and do what he did? No? I do you
- 30:31Speaker 1: think he's as shocked as I think there's a chance
- 30:35Speaker 1: of that. Yes, I think that that he greatly exceeded
- 30:38Speaker 1: their expectation. Yeah, I think there was a chance of that. Yeah,
- 30:40Speaker 1: But I also think, you know, and he could you know,
- 30:43Speaker 1: right or wrong. He could have said, I'm going to
- 30:45Speaker 1: use this as a little experiment, a little you know,
- 30:48Speaker 1: test of of of max grit. You know, I'm not gonna,
- 30:53Speaker 1: you know, declare him. I'm gonna make him. You know,
- 30:56Speaker 1: he had a sense of entitlement. Yeah, maybe for whatever reason.
- 30:59Speaker 1: Like I gonna tell this, I don't know this young
- 31:02Speaker 1: guy yet. He's only been here a year, and I
- 31:04Speaker 1: want to I want to test him a little bit.
- 31:06Speaker 1: What's he made of? Yeah, I do think that knock
- 31:09Speaker 1: him down a pig. Well, that's your word. Couple of
- 31:12Speaker 1: those aren't None of them. None of them are my words.
- 31:14Speaker 1: The words of reports that are okay, I'm tationally using that.
- 31:19Speaker 1: You know, everybody that couldn't possibly see what was happening
- 31:23Speaker 1: was just all too willing. I'm not saying that. Yeah.
- 31:26Speaker 1: I think you can be, you know, a bit comfortable
- 31:28Speaker 1: when your first round draft pick, like you've been made
- 31:30Speaker 1: the starter over a veteran guy like Cam Newton, and
- 31:33Speaker 1: you're like, Okay, well I'm secure, I'm here, this is fine. Um,
- 31:38Speaker 1: I think you can't get in that spot where you're
- 31:40Speaker 1: comfortable You're like, I'm good. I have nothing to worry
- 31:42Speaker 1: about and then something like this happened. Yeah, and it
- 31:44Speaker 1: doesn't mean he's a bad guy or like uncoachable kid,
- 31:47Speaker 1: but yeah, I could naturally feel there's there's an element
- 31:51Speaker 1: of I'm standing on third, but I didn't really hit
- 31:54Speaker 1: a triple, you know. I mean, I get that he
- 31:56Speaker 1: beat out Cam Newton, who the previous year was the
- 31:59Speaker 1: worst quarter back I've ever seen in football. And I
- 32:02Speaker 1: love Cam Newton the player, like that. The ten years
- 32:04Speaker 1: that he played in Carolina, let's call it eight years, um,
- 32:09Speaker 1: I loved watching that guy play, loved it, loved watching
- 32:12Speaker 1: him play. He wasn't that guy when he played for
- 32:14Speaker 1: the Patriots. He was done and he wasn't that guy
- 32:16Speaker 1: at the end of Carolina. You know That's why. So
- 32:18Speaker 1: let's call it. But we're at a moment, you know,
- 32:23Speaker 1: we're at a moment. I've never been in a postgame
- 32:26Speaker 1: locker room like that where you walk around the offensive
- 32:30Speaker 1: area of the locker room and guys are just shell
- 32:33Speaker 1: shocked and you go up to guys. I mean, Romandre Stevenson,
- 32:37Speaker 1: I think, gave the same answer four straight answers in
- 32:39Speaker 1: a row because he just didn't know what to say.
- 32:42Speaker 1: And then Jacobe, you know, I thought was the most
- 32:44Speaker 1: honest about it, and he was dejected of what happened
- 32:49Speaker 1: to Mac. And whether we get into that, you know,
- 32:52Speaker 1: we have Mac Mac guys and Zappy guys or whatever.
- 32:55Speaker 1: Like clearly a lot of the important players on offense
- 32:59Speaker 1: are behind Mac because that that's the team captain, that's
- 33:02Speaker 1: the guy from the you know, the starter last year
- 33:05Speaker 1: and the starter beginning of this year. And to hear
- 33:07Speaker 1: Jacobe talk about how dejected and you know how they
- 33:12Speaker 1: felt bad for the Zappy chance and then getting pulled
- 33:16Speaker 1: from the game when he got pulled from the game
- 33:17Speaker 1: after the bad interception, and I think it left a mark,
- 33:21Speaker 1: like I really do. I think it left a mark
- 33:23Speaker 1: on on the whole performance for the offense because I
- 33:27Speaker 1: think they kind of a they didn't weren't told ahead
- 33:30Speaker 1: of time, most of them who was starting or what
- 33:32Speaker 1: the plan was. And then b they get into the game,
- 33:35Speaker 1: and the crowd the second that Mac runs on the field,
- 33:38Speaker 1: even before he throws the pass, is already chanting for
- 33:40Speaker 1: the other guy. Then he throws a bad pick and
- 33:42Speaker 1: it the optics of it looked terrible, looked like they
- 33:45Speaker 1: just pulled him from the game, and you know, everybody
- 33:48Speaker 1: that you talked to on the offensive side of the
- 33:50Speaker 1: football was we had no idea. But I don't think
- 33:53Speaker 1: Bailey Zappy really had any clue that that was how
- 33:55Speaker 1: they Yeah, I mean, he said that he found out
- 33:59Speaker 1: that he was starting at the same time that all
- 34:01Speaker 1: of us, or that Mac was starting the same time
- 34:03Speaker 1: y'all did, same time, y'all y'all did, probably because Adam
- 34:07Speaker 1: Schefter or ESPN you know, said it on the broadcast
- 34:10Speaker 1: or whatever. Bill said it on the sports ub pregame show,
- 34:15Speaker 1: and that's when Bailey's Appy finds out too. I mean,
- 34:17Speaker 1: you just can't have that kind of what do you
- 34:18Speaker 1: think the chances are? At twelve forty five, Bill comes
- 34:21Speaker 1: out and says, you know, because he'll be asked, he
- 34:23Speaker 1: won't offer it in his opening summation, but when he's
- 34:26Speaker 1: asked it, now, Mac's gonna start this week. I think
- 34:28Speaker 1: there's a chance that if he if he's ready to
- 34:30Speaker 1: announce it, it will be in his opening statement. Okay,
- 34:33Speaker 1: he'll you know, you know, getting ready on the Jets.
- 34:35Speaker 1: You know, they're really impressive, and he'll put everybody to
- 34:38Speaker 1: sleep with the next two paragraphs of how explosive the
- 34:41Speaker 1: worst offense in football is and then he'll say, uh,
- 34:44Speaker 1: you know Mac Jones if he's going to do it,
- 34:46Speaker 1: you know, and Mac Jones will be our starting quarterback.
- 34:48Speaker 1: We've just decided that, you know, what's best for the
- 34:51Speaker 1: team right now is to identify you know, Mac Jones,
- 34:54Speaker 1: and and he's healthy enough, and we're gonna go forward
- 34:56Speaker 1: with Mac Jones. And then there'll be eight questions about
- 35:01Speaker 1: that decision, right, and he'll say, I think I made
- 35:03Speaker 1: my I just told you, I just told you my
- 35:05Speaker 1: opening statement, and he'll fall back on such the right
- 35:08Speaker 1: thing to do. It's it's so there was thing to do.
- 35:11Speaker 1: It's great. I think I could be on that Good
- 35:13Speaker 1: Morning Football show and do the role playing thing with
- 35:15Speaker 1: my whiteboard like it is. Yeah, and listen, I think
- 35:21Speaker 1: it's just as right if he does it with Bailey's Appea,
- 35:24Speaker 1: but make a commitment, right, yeah, Like, it doesn't have
- 35:26Speaker 1: to be the guy that I think it should be.
- 35:28Speaker 1: It's my point. I'm not trying to like finger wag
- 35:30Speaker 1: Bill and tell you I know more than you. If
- 35:32Speaker 1: it's bailey'sz appy, I'd feel exactly the same way. That
- 35:36Speaker 1: actually is what's in the best interest of the team. Yeah,
- 35:38Speaker 1: I think Mac Jones is the better option, but if
- 35:41Speaker 1: he doesn't, I will defer to him. Yeah, I just
- 35:44Speaker 1: think what's in the best interest of the team is
- 35:45Speaker 1: exactly what Evan's talking about. That there was I used
- 35:48Speaker 1: the word you know, I felt like I said, I
- 35:50Speaker 1: wasn't in the locker room with you, Mike when we
- 35:52Speaker 1: were doing our all access, but I said, I was
- 35:55Speaker 1: reading all the quotes and they just seemed like they
- 35:57Speaker 1: were shook. Yeah, like they they they did know that
- 36:00Speaker 1: was coming. And that's not a good situation to be in.
- 36:04Speaker 1: And I think that too. As much as you can
- 36:05Speaker 1: say like, oh, like we don't have to create two
- 36:08Speaker 1: different game plans for offense, like one for Mac one
- 36:10Speaker 1: for Bailey, yes you do, and so you're creating extra
- 36:13Speaker 1: work for the guys to prepare for. Well, it's it's
- 36:17Speaker 1: like you're probably different plays, but you're not necessarily using
- 36:20Speaker 1: you know, like that that one because I think those
- 36:22Speaker 1: two guys are so similar. Yeah, but like Evan, really
- 36:25Speaker 1: before you came on to matter, Evan like really talked
- 36:27Speaker 1: about a lot of the very specific things that were different.
- 36:31Speaker 1: But it's plays that we've seen them them use, and
- 36:34Speaker 1: I just think it's stuff that Zappy does feels more
- 36:36Speaker 1: comfortable with and stuff that Mac feels more comfortable with.
- 36:39Speaker 1: And I think that you would would would change accordingly.
- 36:41Speaker 1: But like the whole Mac Zappy thing, like if you
- 36:44Speaker 1: want to go like that, if there are guys in
- 36:47Speaker 1: that locker room that prefer one of the other, Like
- 36:50Speaker 1: if you're a tight end, who you got right, Like
- 36:54Speaker 1: one guy barely throws us the ball and the other
- 36:56Speaker 1: guy got us involved in the two or three games
- 36:59Speaker 1: that he played, you know, So like you don't have
- 37:02Speaker 1: to be a bad teammate to say I think we
- 37:03Speaker 1: should go with this guy. Also, I feel like I
- 37:06Speaker 1: was thinking about this yesterday. If you're dappy, like you
- 37:09Speaker 1: can't even be happy that you got in, you know,
- 37:11Speaker 1: some NFL games this season that you didn't even expect
- 37:14Speaker 1: to be in at all, because you're like, I don't
- 37:17Speaker 1: want my other teammate in my room to be upset
- 37:22Speaker 1: that I'm happy that I'm getting playing. Right, it's a
- 37:24Speaker 1: weird dynamic that was on that sideline the other night,
- 37:27Speaker 1: and I was joking with I don't know if I
- 37:29Speaker 1: joked with you about this yesterday. Fred. I'm not trying
- 37:31Speaker 1: to compare high school, you know, yeah, like it's it's nothing, Okay.
- 37:37Speaker 1: I've been on the sideline when I've had teammates that
- 37:40Speaker 1: weren't necessarily on board with winning because they felt like
- 37:43Speaker 1: they were being screwed. Yeah, And it's a really dark
- 37:46Speaker 1: place to be in. Like when you're out there and
- 37:49Speaker 1: these are all your friends, Like you play high school football.
- 37:51Speaker 1: You grew up with these kids, right, You go to
- 37:52Speaker 1: all these practices and then you think you're supposed to
- 37:55Speaker 1: be playing, and at the last minute, someone else goes
- 37:57Speaker 1: into play. It's human nature. You're sitting there, You're like,
- 38:01Speaker 1: wouldn't be the worst thing if this kid goes out
- 38:02Speaker 1: and fumbles because he's playing with the spot that I
- 38:04Speaker 1: think I should be playing, right And then and that's
- 38:06Speaker 1: a really, really dak dark place to be in. And
- 38:09Speaker 1: if you were Mac Jones on the sideline the other night,
- 38:12Speaker 1: and then Zappy goes in. He throws this awful ball
- 38:15Speaker 1: to Jacoby Myers, who I can't believe he didn't crack
- 38:18Speaker 1: three ribs trying to catch that. And you're like, your
- 38:23Speaker 1: guys think that Myers went the wrong way. They think
- 38:26Speaker 1: it was a good pass at Myers looked off. Who
- 38:29Speaker 1: I'm sure. They also blamed the fumble on Myers, which
- 38:32Speaker 1: the ball never go anywhere, guys said it. I told
- 38:35Speaker 1: you I disagree with those guys more than anybody. It's like,
- 38:40Speaker 1: it's like when someone asked, I think this was last week,
- 38:43Speaker 1: like you know, are you feeling have you heard about
- 38:46Speaker 1: the Zappie fever? And Zappy's like no, like he was
- 38:50Speaker 1: just like because he knows, he can't can know, but
- 38:54Speaker 1: he pretty still can't even be happy that he's right, No,
- 38:56Speaker 1: I think you pointed and won a game. He has
- 38:59Speaker 1: to act like he has to wait till he gets
- 39:01Speaker 1: home to celebrate, probably with his father. He has can't
- 39:04Speaker 1: do that in front of any pod. Yeah, he can't
- 39:06Speaker 1: be happy. Wow. Remember when Zoe was in this position
- 39:09Speaker 1: and he came in and he'd scored, he'd do the
- 39:12Speaker 1: six guns and but you know they were a terrible team, right,
- 39:16Speaker 1: but his father was showing up on the late night
- 39:18Speaker 1: shows as a guest and everything. It was like, and
- 39:21Speaker 1: we should that Zoe was going to be born. Zoe
- 39:24Speaker 1: was born right then? Yeah, absolutely, Because it's like you
- 39:27Speaker 1: don't want to cheer in someone's face. I guess, but
- 39:31Speaker 1: you I don't know. It's tough wa, I took your
- 39:33Speaker 1: job right, and someone else's misfortune right is a big
- 39:37Speaker 1: part of your fortune. And that's like, that's lousy. I also,
- 39:40Speaker 1: I don't worry too much about them preparing to different
- 39:43Speaker 1: quarterbacks for the offensive players, but the way the defense
- 39:46Speaker 1: played on Monday Night, Like how much time is Bill
- 39:48Speaker 1: spending in his work week to get two different quarterbacks ready?
- 39:53Speaker 1: Because the defense looked arguably more unprepared than the offense
- 39:56Speaker 1: did for what the Bears were bringing them, And I
- 39:59Speaker 1: just wonder, you know, he only has so much time
- 40:02Speaker 1: in a week. Also, so at what point do you
- 40:04Speaker 1: look at it and say, oh, no, you know he
- 40:07Speaker 1: they weren't prepared at all for Justin Fields to run
- 40:09Speaker 1: the football. That that statement, that's the one that resonates.
- 40:13Speaker 1: That's the statement that we'll remember from that Monday night game.
- 40:16Speaker 1: That was the game that Bill said going into the
- 40:17Speaker 1: game that they don't have designed runs for Justin Fields.
- 40:20Speaker 1: And Devin McCardy after the game said how much they
- 40:22Speaker 1: ran the ball with design runs that we didn't see
- 40:24Speaker 1: on film? Right, Like I give Mattie Aberflew's credit, Like,
- 40:28Speaker 1: you know a lot of these teams come in and
- 40:29Speaker 1: they just like roll it out and they just say, well,
- 40:32Speaker 1: you know, if we weren't, if we're not good enough,
- 40:33Speaker 1: we're not good enough. No, he changed some of the
- 40:35Speaker 1: things that they had been doing, and he caught the
- 40:37Speaker 1: Patriots by surprise. Doesn't happen for they also had a
- 40:39Speaker 1: mini buy to do it. They played on Thursday night
- 40:41Speaker 1: that they didn't play again to Monday, and they ran
- 40:43Speaker 1: him eleven times on design quarterback rounds. It was just
- 40:46Speaker 1: by far a career high for Justin Fields, but in
- 40:49Speaker 1: like nine of them, like he had a couple of
- 40:51Speaker 1: quarterbacks sneaks. Nine of those were like actual, like yeah,
- 40:54Speaker 1: we're gonna just take the snap and have him run
- 40:55Speaker 1: around the end. Yeah, and the field designed runs. After
- 40:58Speaker 1: the game, Field said they had watched Baltimore and they
- 41:02Speaker 1: started to take things from Week three against the Patriots
- 41:06Speaker 1: that Baltimore did and repeated some of the same players
- 41:09Speaker 1: that gave the Patriots problems. So you have to give
- 41:11Speaker 1: the Bears a ton of credit. But I would also say, like,
- 41:13Speaker 1: shouldn't the Patriots have seen that coming? Right? That's my point.
- 41:16Speaker 1: That's shouldn't you have given the Bears staff a little
- 41:21Speaker 1: bit of credit that they might be able to pull
- 41:23Speaker 1: that out? This gets back to did they overlook the Bears?
- 41:26Speaker 1: And hard for me to believe that Bill would overlook
- 41:29Speaker 1: any team, but there there's some evidence there. But I
- 41:32Speaker 1: don't think because they weren't prepared for Justin Fields runs
- 41:35Speaker 1: they overlooked them like that, that the quarterback. Then you
- 41:38Speaker 1: can make an argument they overlooked Yeah, all right, we're
- 41:41Speaker 1: gonna take a break. Um. Evan's gonna go down. He's
- 41:44Speaker 1: gonna go down the press uh um conference with Bill
- 41:48Speaker 1: when it happens, we're gonna go to it, but we're
- 41:49Speaker 1: gonna take a break. We come back, more calls and emails,
- 41:52Speaker 1: and then we'll get into Bill's press conference. Get in

- 47:55Speaker 1: lot of explosive players on offense, and a game. So
- 48:00Speaker 1: let's be a big challenge for us down there. It
- 48:01Speaker 1: should be a lot of energy, you know, a lot
- 48:03Speaker 1: of juice in the stadium, and um, you know we
- 48:06Speaker 1: need to get ready again on there and play our
- 48:08Speaker 1: best game of the year. So so we're working forward
- 48:10Speaker 1: this week and we'll get started today. You have you
- 48:15Speaker 1: named a certain quarterback for this on again and we'll
- 48:18Speaker 1: see it goes here today. You don't know how to
- 48:21Speaker 1: get a quarterback rotation again, We'll see how it goes today.
- 48:28Speaker 1: Is that something that would be Look, we're not Look,
- 48:30Speaker 1: we're not doing anything here. We haven't practiced. We're gonna
- 48:33Speaker 1: go out and we're gonna see how it goes today.
- 48:36Speaker 1: All right, what will you decide? It will see how
- 48:39Speaker 1: it goes today. What do you see today? We'll see
- 48:41Speaker 1: how it goes today? All right? Thank you? I am
- 48:49Speaker 1: curious from a company's perspective, we're have a chance for
- 48:55Speaker 1: Bailey Maxine down in the moment. Do you have to
- 49:00Speaker 1: concern yourself with vacks confidence? That all going forward. Yeah,
- 49:03Speaker 1: we'll get the team ready to play. You need to
- 49:11Speaker 1: address the quarterback situation with the rest of the team
- 49:14Speaker 1: so they have some clarity on how, you know, how
- 49:16Speaker 1: things will. We'll deal with them. Thank you. I appreciate that. Yeah,
- 49:22Speaker 1: I just want to I know, you know players at
- 49:23Speaker 1: the day off yesterday, is that something you would have
- 49:25Speaker 1: spoken tuned them about today? Thankfully, We'll deal with them, right, Thanks.
- 49:34Speaker 1: He's that position unique in the terms of the way
- 49:38Speaker 1: the other players look too. It because opposed to like, okay,
- 49:40Speaker 1: defensive tackle, we'll starting a weekend. I mean they care,
- 49:43Speaker 1: but that as the players. I'm not gonna speak for
- 49:48Speaker 1: anybody else. I think we all have enough things ourselves
- 49:52Speaker 1: to worry about. To be honest with, you know, sort
- 49:53Speaker 1: of what everybody else is doing. So I wanted to
- 49:57Speaker 1: talk at the end of July. You spoke right outside
- 50:00Speaker 1: of training camp above max traumatic improvement in the offseason,
- 50:04Speaker 1: how well he played in twenty twenty one and appeared
- 50:06Speaker 1: ready to build on that. What if you can pin
- 50:09Speaker 1: it down has prevented him from taking that improvement onto
- 50:12Speaker 1: the field and just kind of exhibiting it so far
- 50:14Speaker 1: this year. Yeah, Well, I'm gonna look and played the
- 50:17Speaker 1: last three weeks, So what are we talking about it
- 50:21Speaker 1: that way? Well, he threw a pick on the third
- 50:23Speaker 1: drive which really looked like someone's cameras in the past. Again,
- 50:27Speaker 1: start up out of it and got his own one play.
- 50:29Speaker 1: So we'll just get ready for the Jets, all right.
- 50:33Speaker 1: I'm not gonna recap the season. We're just getting ready
- 50:35Speaker 1: for the Jets. I'm not recap of the season the
- 50:36Speaker 1: other mine. That's neither of mine. We're getting ready for
- 50:40Speaker 1: the Jets, planning to get ready for that. It's a
- 50:42Speaker 1: fair question. Great, Um, it's a fair answer. I'm getting
- 50:47Speaker 1: ready for the Jets. If I have to show you
- 50:50Speaker 1: something more this week in order to get to start
- 50:53Speaker 1: the Sunday. Yeah, we're gonna ready for the Jets, all
- 50:56Speaker 1: of us. Yeah, and we say we'll see how it goes.
- 51:00Speaker 1: See are you referring to quarterback help from quarterback performance?
- 51:03Speaker 1: I'm talking about just going out in practicing today. We
- 51:05Speaker 1: haven't been on the field yet. It's nothing, nothing to
- 51:09Speaker 1: talk about it from yesterday. If we can't do anything, Bill,
- 51:14Speaker 1: do you know what you want to do on Sunday?
- 51:15Speaker 1: Or will they be competing in the quarterback competing this
- 51:18Speaker 1: week for that job. Yeah, I never said that, and
- 51:20Speaker 1: I said we'll see how it goes today, so today
- 51:24Speaker 1: be deciding factor. Or I did just say that. I
- 51:28Speaker 1: said we'll just see how it goes. When you say
- 51:31Speaker 1: we'll see how it goes, are you prying to max Ankle.
- 51:36Speaker 1: I'm referring to the whole to I'll see how it goes,
- 51:41Speaker 1: all right? Will you tell us tomorrow if maybe maybe Bill?
- 51:50Speaker 1: Looking back on it, what needs to get better? You know?
- 51:53Speaker 1: All right for you guys to go up against the
- 51:54Speaker 1: Jets here from what you saw Monday night. Yes, when
- 51:57Speaker 1: I said after the game, we all need to do
- 51:58Speaker 1: a better job when made coaches, players, every area, offense, defense,
- 52:02Speaker 1: special teams that wasn't good enough across the board won't
- 52:07Speaker 1: be good enough this week, so we all have to
- 52:09Speaker 1: do better. How concerning were the results for you? Awesome? Surprised?
- 52:13Speaker 1: Were you by the way the team played Monday? Look,
- 52:18Speaker 1: the Bears played well. We didn't play well enough, So
- 52:21Speaker 1: says it's the National Football League. You don't play well
- 52:24Speaker 1: in a sleep and things don't go well, I'll play well.
- 52:27Speaker 1: Then you're in a competitive situation. See what happens this
- 52:32Speaker 1: week or manic and Billy's avy compete becast range job. Yeah,
- 52:37Speaker 1: I'm not saying that. We'll talk about it there. There
- 52:45Speaker 1: it goes, is the is the plan for today, Bill
- 52:50Speaker 1: to give both guys. We'll see the plans to see
- 52:53Speaker 1: how it goes. The plans to see how it goes.
- 52:56Speaker 1: All right, they look at the guts defensive you still
- 53:05Speaker 1: characterize it as a Seattle three type type defense or
- 53:09Speaker 1: what do you see from them? Yes? Yeah, and I
- 53:10Speaker 1: think that's the basis of it. Yeah. Sure, they they
- 53:13Speaker 1: play hard, they're very aggressive, play a lot of people. Um,
- 53:17Speaker 1: you know up front, Um, don't give them any big plays.
- 53:21Speaker 1: Pursue well like physical Mostly it's really good Franklin Myers
- 53:27Speaker 1: really good. Williams having a good year. Gardners give them
- 53:30Speaker 1: a good player on the corner, the whole second million.
- 53:32Speaker 1: There's a lot of new players in the secondary. Um,
- 53:37Speaker 1: they played well, they had good field position from their
- 53:40Speaker 1: special teams and played well defensively. You're just walking through today,
- 53:49Speaker 1: Well yeah, yeah, it's closer to walk through than full practice,
- 53:53Speaker 1: that's for sure. Yeah, coach, defense is given up the
- 53:59Speaker 1: most rushing your quarterbacks in the league. A lot of
- 54:01Speaker 1: it's come from two games but how do you do
- 54:04Speaker 1: a better job with that while still getting pressure on
- 54:06Speaker 1: the quarterback? Yeah, the coach and play better. So how
- 54:15Speaker 1: much job growth have you noticed from Zach Wilson last
- 54:17Speaker 1: year this year? Uh? I mean, he's played well. I
- 54:23Speaker 1: don't know. You'd have to talk to them about it.
- 54:25Speaker 1: I couldn't give you a percentage or anything. Just got
- 54:30Speaker 1: got better players around them. Its slaying well, teams, playing
- 54:33Speaker 1: well right running back all that. It's like a tremendous
- 54:38Speaker 1: production coming into after six games or whatever it was.
- 54:42Speaker 1: I got hurt last week, but I had a big
- 54:44Speaker 1: play in that game, helped win the game. So I
- 54:47Speaker 1: got a lot of good players. Wilson's played good, but
- 54:49Speaker 1: they use everybody. They get the ball to everybody, a
- 54:52Speaker 1: lot of receivers. Production at a running back, you know
- 54:55Speaker 1: Carter an Hall, so you multiple guys aaron the ball,
- 55:01Speaker 1: at players catching the ball. Balance offense. How would you
- 55:08Speaker 1: describe the way they've tried to build around him, specifically
- 55:12Speaker 1: last offseason, the way they drafted in, designed players and
- 55:14Speaker 1: free agency and just put as many good players as
- 55:18Speaker 1: they can. That they did it on offense, defense an
- 55:21Speaker 1: I thinking game too. Some of the guys they've had
- 55:25Speaker 1: of just you know, they played a lot of players,
- 55:27Speaker 1: a lot of rookie players last year. They were one
- 55:29Speaker 1: of the highest teams in the league in terms of
- 55:30Speaker 1: rookie snaps last year. Obviously most all those players are
- 55:34Speaker 1: back now they have your experience, and so you have
- 55:36Speaker 1: those players moving up and then new players they've added
- 55:39Speaker 1: the team, a couple of free agent acquisitions. Just continue
- 55:44Speaker 1: to put together a strong team. Got a good job.
- 55:50Speaker 1: How much of a problem is playing plays? And a
- 55:53Speaker 1: big problem. Explosive, powerful guy, very athletic for a size,
- 55:59Speaker 1: it's hard. Then there's a lot of good players up there,
- 56:02Speaker 1: so you know, deal with one, you gotta deal with
- 56:05Speaker 1: you know, two or three other guys, you know Mosley
- 56:07Speaker 1: standing behind them. So um. You know, they penetrate, they
- 56:12Speaker 1: cause negative plays, they are very disruptive, um, and they
- 56:17Speaker 1: run well, pursue well. They play sound. You know, they
- 56:21Speaker 1: very sound defensively what they do so don't give a
- 56:24Speaker 1: lot of big plays. Make you run a lot of
- 56:27Speaker 1: plays to get the ball down the field and in
- 56:28Speaker 1: the end zone, and they usually something usually happens before
- 56:33Speaker 1: where you get there. That's generally what they've been able
- 56:35Speaker 1: to do. It seems like gardeners off to a very
- 56:40Speaker 1: good start in the secondary. Whatever are you seeing from him? Yeah,
- 56:42Speaker 1: it's not a good job. You know, long guy, Um,
- 56:46Speaker 1: you know, very athletic, good pass rush. Quarterbacks aren't stand
- 56:51Speaker 1: doct though there. You know, I have a lot of
- 56:53Speaker 1: time to make decisions. So you know he's been able to, um,
- 56:57Speaker 1: you know, be aggressive, playgressively on some routes. Good ans,
- 57:01Speaker 1: good ball skills. When James all right, I'm glad we
- 57:10Speaker 1: went to Bill. I think once again I give credit
- 57:13Speaker 1: to the media. They stuck with it. Um. Obviously Bill
- 57:15Speaker 1: wasn't gonna, you know, make any declarations today. Um, he's
- 57:19Speaker 1: They're just gonna see what happens. It's a walkthrough, so
- 57:21Speaker 1: I don't know exactly what they're gonna see in order
- 57:24Speaker 1: to make a determination. I'm pretty sure Bill in his
- 57:27Speaker 1: mind knows what he's gonna do, and maybe his thinking is,
- 57:31Speaker 1: I'm gonna tell the players before I tell you guys.
- 57:34Speaker 1: I was going to ask you, do you think there's
- 57:35Speaker 1: a chance that tomorrow he says it, and they he
- 57:37Speaker 1: even said maybe, you know, he deviated from the we'll
- 57:41Speaker 1: see what how it goes to say maybe yeah on
- 57:44Speaker 1: that one question. Yeah, so maybe you know, if the
- 57:47Speaker 1: first group. I'm gonna tell are my players, and then
- 57:50Speaker 1: I'll tell you guys, and maybe that'll be tomorrow, so
- 57:54Speaker 1: we'll see. I mean, they're they're like he even said,
- 57:58Speaker 1: you know, today's practice is more of a walkthrough than
- 58:01Speaker 1: anything else. It's not like there's going to be any
- 58:04Speaker 1: quarterback evaluation today. I would imagine in his head, he's
- 58:07Speaker 1: already made up his mind. He knows what he's doing.
- 58:09Speaker 1: You know, I'm just looking at practices at one thirty,
- 58:12Speaker 1: so doesn't give him much time. Um, I don't know,
- 58:16Speaker 1: but I did. Uh, I'm a little disappointed, a little
- 58:21Speaker 1: disappointed that it there's no clarity to it. I do
- 58:24Speaker 1: think I agree with you. I think there's a chance
- 58:26Speaker 1: that tomorrow, Yeah, there's a little bit. But he doesn't
- 58:28Speaker 1: have a press comments tomorrow, right, um, fair point, fair point.
- 58:34Speaker 1: We won't know till Friday. That's that's availability. So this
- 58:39Speaker 1: nonsense continues unless oh no, he is scheduled to talk
- 58:42Speaker 1: tomorrow at twelve, Oh he is, Okay, that's usually Thursday
- 58:45Speaker 1: he doesn't, but maybe because of the short week. Yeah,
- 58:47Speaker 1: so he is going to talk tomorrow at twelve, Yeah, okay,
- 58:51Speaker 1: all right, so we'll see tomorrow but you know, I think,
- 58:55Speaker 1: you know, he was given ample opportunities that I think, Uh,
- 58:58Speaker 1: the guys and girls that were there, um pressed him, UM,
- 59:03Speaker 1: came at it from all different angles. Give them credit.
- 59:07Speaker 1: UM and UM. You know, we'll just have to wait
- 59:10Speaker 1: till tomorrow if if that, but I gotta assume that,
- 59:14Speaker 1: you know, we'll hear about it tomorrow. So anyway, UM,
- 59:21Speaker 1: let's get back to your calls and emails. Here eight
- 59:24Speaker 1: five five paths five hundred eight ticket hotline web radio
- 59:27Speaker 1: at Patriots dot com is the email address, Uh tomorrow
- 59:31Speaker 1: and Evan took off to be at the press conference
- 59:34Speaker 1: and they might be back before practice, said one thirty.
- 59:38Speaker 1: So I don't know if maybe Evan will come back, yeah,
- 59:41Speaker 1: before he goes out, Before he goes out, there's a
- 59:43Speaker 1: little time here in between, ye Stacy James making an
- 59:47Speaker 1: announcement now letting the media know what where to park
- 59:50Speaker 1: or yea, what follows because they are indoors today usually
- 59:53Speaker 1: the walkthroughs at tent. That's when I saw they were indoors,
- 59:55Speaker 1: I assumed to walk through today. Short week up, Let's
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: go to the phones. We'll start with Eric in New Jersey.
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: Thanks for hanging on, Eric, what's up? I hate Fred, Paul, Paul,
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: I got a personal issue, uh to deal with you?
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: And then a question and a football question here? Okay,
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: you got if that had talked about it the other
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: day in Indiana, you guys were splitting a cookie skill
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: of ice cream, two spoons. If you're gonna be a
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: big guy, you gotta commit. What are you doing? What
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: are we doing? Paul? You were splitting two spoons. That's
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: absolutely true. That was one of our our dates. Was
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: that at the Webber Grill. Uh, I want to say
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: it was that like that Champs place. Okay, Um, it
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: was definitely Combine Combine week. But yeah, yeah, that actually
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: that absolutely happens. That is fact I split a dessert
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: with another man. Yeah, we weren't even on a date. Yeah,
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: commit to commit to the commit to the call. But
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: you just get your own next time. But yeah, I
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: wouldn't kind of just talk on the Mac and the
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: Zappy situation. They we're kind of beating a horse that
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: I was hoping Bill kind of gave some clarity for it.
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: But the but mac, um, I just think he's I
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: just think he's he's just beating down to the ground here. Um.
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: And then I think even too, and it's it's unfair
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: for Zappy. Um, you know, it's a tough spot for him. Obviously,
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: he didn't get any first team reps this training camp.
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: Mac had all last year had the first team, Uh,
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: first team reps all camps. You're kind of putting Zappy
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: in there. And then it's just some of the critiques. Obviously,
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: his height we knew was height when they drafted him. Um,
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: you know, everybody brings up the batted balls this this
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: last game, but it wasn't really an issue the first
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: two games obviously, you know, Breeze kind of worked it through.
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: You know, you know it's kind of standing on the
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: top of the balls of his feet and his head spapes.
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: But like I said, I have I just want to
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: have a guy and just commit to it and whoever
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: it is, you know, just just have a plan, go
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: with it. But you know, I just think, like I said,
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: you guys mentioned earlier, you know, just the turmoil between
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: the teams. Um. You know they cut to the cameras
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: on ESPN when Mac threw that interception and you know
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: Hunter Henry came up and you know you obviously was
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: saying something to Zappy obviously you can't hear what you know,
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: know what they're saying, but you know, I feel like
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: this is kind of getting to that two thousand and
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: nine territory, you know, when you know Derek Burgess and
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: you know Sewan Springs. You know, you had those older
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: veterans that came in here in the locker room. You know,
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: we were winning the game, losing the game, you know,
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: and I just think Bill might lose the locker room
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: and I'll take it off the line, thank god. All right,
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: thanks Eric. Yeah, I think all those things are concerns.
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: I'm not telling you they're happening, or they have happened,
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: or they will happen, but they're all concerns I think
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: brought up. Yeah, and just a little update here, um,
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: I think as part of what Stacy James just told everybody,
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: Matt Jones will be speaking today at the podium. Oh
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: so okay, well that there's an indicator. Well, Matt, Well,
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: Billy Zappie spoke on Monday, So not necessarily no, but
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: we are we have turned the page from the game,
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: So I don't know, just something something to think about
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: Melvin's and Tennessee. What's Melviney was going on, Hey, hey, uh,
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: I'm gonna like redirect from the quarterback talk. But my
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: biggest thing I feel like defensively is it's funny to me,
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: I think maybe Duce heavy Sad I can't remember, but
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: we have all these big guys, but we still can't
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: stop the run. That's just concerning to me. It's, um,
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: I don't know we're getting them a break with of
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: course Breecee Hall being out, he's a good back, and
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: Zach Wilson's wacky at the quarterback position obvious, So I
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: feel like that, Um, I'm just concerned with every time
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: I get confidence, like we just stopped Chubb and stuff
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: like that, they just clearly we're not the same team.
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: But whenever I start to really feel confident defensively, we
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: have one of these. So I just I want to
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: see them going there and limit the Jets to what
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: they can do because this is this is kind of
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: a most win bounce back with a lot going on.
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: This is the games where like it could really be rare.
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: I wouldn'tay the rare season. Well, I guess it can
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: be because things are in you know, kind of up
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: and down right now. And Mac Jones we had this
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: last year where you know they were on this big
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: wind streak, number one seed, then you get blown out
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: by the Bill. So it's ups and downs this whole
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: since he's been here. So this is one of these times.
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: Who are like, you have to go on the road
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: against the Jet. Same. I don't think it's very good.
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: But what they're five and two, so they're doing something.
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: I would think, So you have to go into this environment,
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: division rival and win this game for I anjuring everything
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: you need it. I think the next two are must wins.
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: Paul would say, the next three or must wins. Yeah,
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: you can't. You can't lose to the teams that you're
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: behind expect to make the playoffs, and the three teams
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: that they play the next three weeks or all ahead
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: of them. Yeah, the Jets, the Colts, and the Jets. Yep.
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: These are the teams that you're fighting with for a
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: wild card. Yep, Yep, you gotta beat them. So we
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: gotta get it. Yep. You beat Cleveland, like beating Cleveland
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: was an important win for that reason, like you had
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: to beat Cleveland. I think you have to beat these
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: these three teams, and I mean you could go into
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: a whole conversation about the psyche of the team like that,
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: just the mentality and confidence level. I'm not even considering
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: that that's all valid. Like if you lose these games,
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: then you know, what are you left with? You know,
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: to try to prop up um whoever you play at
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: quarterback if he loses. Now you got the half the
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: team saying if the other guy played, we would have won, right,
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: you know, like you got issues, so you better win.
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: Yeph Williams a Fellam, what's up William Oh he gave up?
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: Sorry about that? Patty and agawam? What's up? Patty? Hey? Uh,
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: just a couple of things. I'll I will corroborate. What
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: what Maddie Lapan and Maddie Borel On the broadcast, Mac
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: did like he dropped an fbomb after Daily threw that
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: touchdown pass to Jacobe Myers. My question, you guys have
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: to forgive my ignorance. I don't even know the dude's named,
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: the guy that they picked up from Jackstonsville via the trade.
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: But is he any good? Because I don't James, I
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: don't watch any Jack. Yeah, James Robinson is one of those.
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: He was an undrafted free agent a couple of years ago,
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: he had a thousand yards season. He's been reasonably productive.
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: They drafted Travis e t N who missed all of
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: last year with an injury that he suffered in the summer,
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: and they're giving the Jags are giving the number one
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: role to him. And this guy was expendable and they
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: got a couple of drafts. Well, they got a conditional
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: draft pick for him. Um, is he great? No? Is
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: he Breeze Hall? No? But it's a good It's a
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: good pickup for the Jets. And I would think as
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: a running back, you you let him practice all week.
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: He should be up to speed as to what he's doing.
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: And I'd expect to see him Sunday if he's healthy.
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know. I know he was dealing
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: with some knee injury or something with Jacksonville when he
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: was there, but I would expect to see him. And
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: do I think he's, you know, the next Barry Sanders. No,
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: he's not. He's not going to replace Breeze Hall. But
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: he's a solid running back. Yep. They needed a body, right, Yeah.
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: And then stopping the run, more so than stopping the past,
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: concerns me to sleep with the Jets, and absolutely with
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: the Jets. Yeah, because the Jets don't don't throw the ball,
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: but they're like they're a lot like Chicago. They don't.
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: I guarantee you they'll they'll come out throw it, just
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: like Fields. First what two three plays, they threw the
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: ball because they know we wanted you know, they know
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: we're gonna gear up to stop the run. They'll throw
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: the ball. You watch, you watch. I don't think that
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: that's act Field's first two plays or passes in the game. No,
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: Montgomery left tackle four yards, Montgomery left tackle two yards,
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: third and four passed to Arnell Mooney. Maybe it was
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: the second drive. But they threw more than I thought
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: they would. He did pass on first down on the
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: second driven than Montgomery right guard. Like, No, they came
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: out running. He didn't throw that many passes. Well, eventually
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: they didn't have to. No, but I mean he only
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: ended up with twenty one pass attempts. That's what That's
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: what the Jets will do it. That's what the Jets
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: do during the four game winning streak. They won't throw
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: the ball. Yeah, they got so ahead. I mean they
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: didn't have to at the end. They ran the ball
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: exclusively at the end. But they've been down like all
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: year and Justin Fields has attempted twenty five passes once.
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: I know he averages nineteen. Was at nineteen a game
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: or something like that. Yeah, he was right on his average.
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: Thanks Patty. Just to reiterate that. James Robinson his rookie year,
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: he had one thousand and seventy yards and seven touchdowns.
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: That number dropped he had about eighty fewer carries. Last
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: year he had one hundred and sixty four carries, seven
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: hundred and sixty seven yards and eight touchdowns. This year
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: he's been much less, only eighty one carries, but three
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: hundred and four yards, three touchdowns, four point two per carry,
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: four point five average for his career. So he is
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: a workman like running back who I think will help
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: the Jets with Breece hallout ray and Saint Louis writes
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: in listening to Bill interview today, it just seems like
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: we are distracted a little. I remember when we got
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: Ab and Bill had to get tons of negative questions
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: about him. I felt sorry for Bill as it felt
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: like he was under fire for what AB did. Now
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: it's different. I feel maybe he started this controversy and
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: frankly keeping it going by not putting an end to it.
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: What do you all think? We kind of agree with that.
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: I mean, that's what we've been talking about. We hope
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: that he'll come out definitively and say this guy's our starter,
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: whoever it is. I do agree. I just think that
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: the Tonio Brown is the same thing. If you don't
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: want questions about a guy with a checker pass, don't
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: sign a guy with a checker pass. That's true, yep.
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: But we're hoping that tomorrow he will in fact come
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: out and say, you know, this guy's my starter, whoever
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: it is. We're just looking for something. Yeah, I do
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: agree with the premise of the email. I think this
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: was largely self induced. David writes in I can't get
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: out of my head Jules doing his Bill Belichick impersonation
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: every time I watched this team lately. I agree that
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: Bailey and Mac have similar skill sets, but you have
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: to choose one. I have to admit, though, I've never
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: seen the crowd more electric than it was on Monday
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: Night when Zappy came in and allowed Myers to make
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: a great play for a touchdown on a poorly thrown
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: wrong shoulder ball? Does that make Zappy the guy? I'm
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: not sure. Not only was the crowd electric, the press
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: box was unprofessionally electric. I made the comment about that yesterday,
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: and of course someone had to like send it to
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: Aaron Schatz like I was calling him. I just he
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: like literally turned to a guy and was like, why good,
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: look does Zappy was like people just were like they
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: lost it. Yeah. It wasn't even that. It was like,
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: you know, anything really bad. It was like genuine, like
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: I can't believe this is happening. Right, what are we
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: witnessing here? Right? Uh? Here are some scenarios of course,
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: you know, like you say something about healthy and they
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: have to on Twitter. Ya well PW Paul was making
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: fun okay yea yeah, like like Aaron Chatz cares what
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: Paul is saying. He probably does. Uh. Here are doubt
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: he even knows who I am. Here are some scenarios.
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: I want to see what your opinions are on the
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: likelihood of each. Highly likely, could go either way or
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: not gonna happen mac wins four plus games the rest
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: of the year. Highly likely. I say, so, you got
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: ten left? All he has to do really good. That's
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: a really good number. All he has to do is
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: go four and six. Well, he has to go five
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: and five and five. It's a really good number. I'll say,
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: I'll say likely. Okay, Man, I don't feel great about it. Yeah,
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: I hear what you're saying. Mac turns the ball over
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: eight plus times the rest of the year. Oh likely, Uh,
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: Zappy starts Oh so this is basically asking who you
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: think is going to play the balance of the season. Maybe,
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: I don't know, Okay, Zappy starts five more games this season. Unlikely,
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: The QB for the future isn't on this roster. Likely,
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: Bill passes Shula in all time wins by the end
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: of next season unlike. Unlikely. And finally Paul agrees with Fred.
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: By the end of the show. Likely, we always find
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: common ground by the end. Speaking of common ground, a
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: common person's here in Andy Hart. What's up? Andy? I
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: felt like a shot. You just made me laugh out
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: loud on the tone of I think it was the
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: turnovers for for for Mac the rest of the year,
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: Oh god, over something like, well, they have ten games left,
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: They're not gonna turn it over eight times in ten games.
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: It just it wasn't the answer. The tone of it.
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: Your tone is tremendous. Okay, you're like Bill Belichick, You're
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: great with tone. It's a tonal thing. Well, you know,
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: we'll see how it goes. Um, we'll see how what
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: goes Bill. Le'll just see how it goes. What are
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: we seeing? What's just like the other night? What is
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: the situation? What do you need the whole situation? And
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: then have you noticed the new thing too, the smirk
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: and the thanks at the end of everything? Right, Well, no,
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: but thanks at least they I give you guys credit
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: today although I did not hear your voice oh with
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: a like jets related questions. No, early on, I asked him,
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: what you need to see? We just need to say.
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: I didn't recognize your voice. I give you guys. Fred
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: said it right away. I give you guys. It would
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: have been easy. And I think flashing back ten years
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: or so ago when everything was you know, Super Bowl
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: or bust, it would have stopped much much soon. Well,
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: he would have stopped it. I don't think he ever
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: put a hard stop, like a hole. I'm done here,
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: you a holes stopped to it. Today he kind of
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: let it go right in a way. And that might
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: be because tea very relevant questions. I think you came
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: at it, you came at it in different angles. I
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: thought I thought, you know, you guys did the best
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: job you could. I thought we were close to a
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: tom current Headbut I'm you know, like like he goes,
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: it's a fair question. And it was like and then
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: and then he goes, it was a fair answer. He's like,
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: really fair answer came with a smirk, like he's like,
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: he smirk. He knows what he's doing, you know, And
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: I think he's showing us I know what I'm doing. Well,
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: you know, I actually maybe I'm reading way too much
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: into the thanks and the smirks and all that. He
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: he's extending a tiny olive branch, but also doing it
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: in a condescending fashion. Yeah, right, it was my take
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: on right, But no, it was fine. I mean, I
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: have no idea where we are, Like, I don't feel anymore.
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: My feeling is that he knows what he's gonna do.
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: It's mad he's not gonna tell us before he tells
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: his team. It's it's a walkthrough today tomorrow. Well Mac
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: is talking today, right, I was told yea, um so
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: I don't know what that means because Bailey talked last
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: week and announce that he did. Oh okay, Bailey talked
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: last week, but at that point they had right in practice,
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: and then Max was at his locker, right, so like,
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: I don't know that you definitively, then they both did
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: the production meeting, So like, I don't know all these
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: little tea leaves we like to try to read, or
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: I don't know that you have. I think it's gonna
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: be Mac on Sunday. I agree with you. I think
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: I think it should be Mac on Sunday. Do you
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: I think Bills here a Zappi guy, though I've heard
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: you on the radio with Fitzy, Um, what do you
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: mean by a zappy guy? Like you think Zappy should
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: be playing? No, I think Mac is better than I
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: think that. I don't think that. I don't think the
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: delta between Mac and Zappy is as as far as
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: you'd like it to be. I don't think this. I
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: don't think there's much of a difference. Um. You know,
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: but God forbid, he threw a pick because his ball
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: hit the wire. It didn't hit I'm not sure it
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: did or it didn't. It was still a terrible throw
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: in a terrible decision. You know why it hit the
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: wire because the guy running the thing was like, no
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: idiot quarterback would throw at this high and then he
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: threw this like big because because he threw a punt,
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: he did and listen, ESPN put a statement out to
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: say it didn't. Now I'm not just like the league
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: said that they didn't ask for an autograph. Do we
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: believe these now? Correct? Oh, officer, I wasn't speeding. Okay,
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: go about your business. Talk about a tonality number for
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: a golf pro. I feel like I'm I'm gonna tell
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: you Morrel's gonna be my like agent or something. I'm
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: giggling back there. Like. We had a nice call from
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: from Eric a little while ago, Eric from New Jersey,
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: from New Jersey, who said he heard that, did you
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: tell the story about you and I sharing the chocolate
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: chips Sunday? Yes? He just called Paula. He called me,
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: You called my man. I didn't tell it all in
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: like I would fifteen years ago. You can't say not.
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: But you shared that dessert with Andy? Did you get
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: like what one buy out of it by the time
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: he finished it? Correct? Yea, Um, but yeah, what are
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: you giggling about, because I'm just thinking I'm all ridiculous.
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: It was that we shard that. Yeah, we were you know,
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: we were ahead of our time. We probably also had
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: you know, ten beers each in us and maybe didn't
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: quite feel like we could put the whole thing down.
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: I don't know how you ended up in the same
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: hotel room. Oh this is this my key? Oh sorry,
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: that's not a pillow. The ma ma the Mac and
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: Zappy thing. Like, I think we can all sort of
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: have an opinion as to who we think is better,
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: and I agree with you. I think Mac Jones is better.
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: I don't think there's a huge gap, but I think
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: it's kind of inarguable that Zappy has played better this
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: year than Mac Jones has. Yeah, until the wheel started
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: to fall off a little bit, diminishing returns, I thought, oh,
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: I this is like, you know, I don't need, you know,
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: to see like twenty eight games, like I can see
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: a skill set well. But I would also like the
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: difference between Mac and Zappy. Mac is not at his
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: best right now. Mac is a broken quarterback in my opinion,
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: totally broken. He lost. I don't know how you get
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: it back that's on Bill, I said last night on
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: TV Tuesday nights usually whatever, Um what station NBC Sports
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: Boston at a regular slot. Now, wow, uh look at you.
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: Don't you think you still don't share? Had know enough
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: times that Andy is now getting the scraps. Yeah, no,
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: I think I got Cherubin is an advocate for me.
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: I think he gets me in. Um, but don't you think, well,
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: I'm mad at him. Do you ever get on the list? Oh? Yeah,
- 1:18:15Speaker 1: the black Man always gives me you're not on the list,
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: Like I'm going to an F and club you're not
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: And he crosses his arms and they are rather intimidating
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: when you go in. But I'm like, he's like a bouncer. Yes,
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: you can't get you can't get in. If you're not
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: on the list, you don't get in. Wow. I've actually
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: been told if you as an employee, let somebody else in.
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: It's like monsters inc. Like the they freak the f
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: out like, um, one of them let Felger in. Felger
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: arrived for his ten o'clock show at typical Felger like
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: nine to fifty six, and they just buzzed him in
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: and let him in. They all got in trouble, screamed
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: at their like we get a live TV show. He's
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: the name on the TV show. We need him. But anyway,
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: different topic, different day. I think Bill needs to go
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: Cam Newton on Mac Jones. Remember the ridiculous build up
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: Bill gave Cam Newton, Like there's leaders and then there's
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: Cam Newton and nobody works. I think he like, you
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: have broken this puddle of good that is Mac Jones
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: interceptions coaching, the whole damn thing. You need to find
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: a way to fix it and build him up. And
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: that's on you, coach. Maybe it's like the Marines, right, Matt.
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: You build them down, you break them down, and you
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: build them back up. Yeah, when do we start the robots?
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: What that you got to have your own robots? Robots
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: and the Marines. Now, well you know what he's saying, um,
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: but like, when do we start building him up? When
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: do we start building him up? Has because it doesn't
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: feel like that because when Mac rolled his eyes and
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: shook his head when Bill said you're out, he doesn't
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: start too huh. Yeah, it didn't. The whole world seod.
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: I mean I was at thinking it was a good
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: job with ESPN and the yeah, but I've seen it
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: everywhere since people are using it as they should. And
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: then what I did miss is apparently when he tells Agil,
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: I'm out, that's interesting as well. I missed that part.
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: I need to see that part again. Oh I didn't.
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: He tells Nelson Agilar, I'm out, and there's like a
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: weird exchange and body language there. But when when Bill
- 1:19:55Speaker 1: tells him he's out, he rolls his eyes and shakes
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: his head as he should. Well he not sure he should.
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: But you're you're confusing. You should be pissed that he
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: was here. You're confusing being pissed with disrespecting the coach.
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: You're walking away and showing everybody like And I also,
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: it's it's the year twenty twenty two. He has to
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: know that's on camera, right, Everything you do is on display.
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: There's also evidence that after the touchdown to Myers that
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: he was seeing uh sort of not looking exceptionally happy
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: about it, and then he came out and greeted him,
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: so that it was a second touchdown. I believe. Oh, Okay,
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: it wasn't a good throw to Myers, No, it was terrible,
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: But anyway, West Welcome. I could have done that, they
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: would another one another. I do it, Andy, I do
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: feel I do feel like thing is I'm on west
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: side on that. I do feel like Mac Jones is
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: the guy. But at the same time, I think that
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: the bigger problem is you might not have the guy
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: that you think. You absolutely don't that you had, So
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: that to me is the concern moving forward. Yeah, this
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: whole season started with them trying to figure out if
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: they were like taking it to the next level, like
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: I keep saying, closing the gap with the Bills. So far,
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: again we're stuck. We do this a lot with the Jets,
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: but Paul, you know, we do this. We get in
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: training camp, it's a big thing. Three days turn into
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: like three weeks, Like we feel like that guy's awesome,
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: he's so good, pencil him in for this, and three
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: weeks later you're like, who is that guy? He's not
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: even part of the rotate? Like we get and I think,
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: to very reaction, you are, You're one hundred percent right now.
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: I'm not the only one. I'm just the only one
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: that would be willing to admit it. But they sack
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: somebody in a preseason game in Tampa. We're gonna have
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: the best defense ever, Andre Carter, you'd Males Defensive Player
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: of the Year. Um, but uh yeah, I do need
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: to go, but real quickly, I'll wrap this up. I
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: gotta forget a hit over there. Um all right, anyway,
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: the guy, Oh, we're only like six games even, Bill saying,
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: I'm not going to evaluate a guy mid season when
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: the guy's missed three games like Mac is in. If
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: he has the career I think he's gonna have no
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: matter what, He's played even league for ten years, somehow,
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: some way, If Brian Hoyer can play for a decade,
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: Mac Jones played for a decade, absolutely so this is
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: like a teeny little blip on the radar of his career.
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: And we may be in three years, saying I can't
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: believe we doubted him when he had that little slump
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: in early twenty twenty two. Enough ten seconds? Yes, I know,
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: does Bill name the starter tomorrow? Somehow, some way we
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: know that Mack is the starter? Yes, I announce it.
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: I don't that feels weird. I don't know how it
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: gets to us, which mouthpiece he used it? You know,
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: we we went out to practice yesterday, you know we
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: you know, everything looks good. In. Max's gonna be the starter.
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: I feel like that something like that is coming something.
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: I think you can announce it like that. Yeah, all right,
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: and he's got to go. Thanks for stopping in. We
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: really enjoy these little U drive buys. It's good chin wags. Yeah,
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: Hardy likes to call them. Remember when Felger used to
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: do that is a legend, epic. Yeah. So the only
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: thing that could get me to keep my mouth shut
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: is just watching you and Felger go at it. He
- 1:22:55Speaker 1: would start screaming at me, call me a liar both. Yeah. Um,
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: all right, five five past five hundred is the a
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: sticket hut line web radio at Patriots dot com is
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: the email address. Let's go to William and Phillim was
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: back on the line. What's up William? Hey Fred? How
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: are you doing good? Where do I get? Damn um? What?
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: Max should be the starter? I'll start there, and I'm
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: gonna give praises to uh Matthew Juno straight straight. He
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: did the best that he could, though. I just wish
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: they'd get him some help too on the other side,
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: or or a lineback or somebody something, because he's gonna
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: get I think he's going to just burn out at
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: some point shoot on. Yeah, well I think I think
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: that's why they're trying to cut back on his workload
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: a little bit. But you notice he's not He doesn't
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: have the same amount of places at this point in
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: the year that he did last year. So you know,
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: like what Paul said, he's down, he snaps are down
- 1:23:58Speaker 1: a little bit from last year one. He's out there,
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: he's full, he's full. Yeah, I think he was a
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: problem last night Monday night against the run like everybody else.
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: I'm not blaming him. I just think he was not
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: part of the solution, right and and also like what
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: is going on almost like three four years? It is
- 1:24:17Speaker 1: they can't they can't stop the run, miscanceling, It's just
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: it's Yeah, I think I think you know the same
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: thing every time and builds behind all this, you know, like,
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: I mean, you have not fixed this problem with over
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: since what twenty nineteen? Yeah, you can't stop the run? Right,
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: Why haven't you got a detectlcy what in Jordan days?
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: We could be nice right about now? This is what
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: this is the stuff that we all talked about, rap
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: wee fans, rapids patriots on filter itself though it's I mean,
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: when are when you are you gonna get it right?
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: You got to stop the run. I mean, like it
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: was justin fields. It's the Chicago Bears. How come you
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: can stop the mayings and get and you can blow
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: them out, or you can stop cleaning to something degree
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: and y'all and y'all win that game, but you can't
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: beat the Bears. Do you think Tom Brady will go
- 1:25:05Speaker 1: for that ship? Easy? Yeah, Listen. It was a bad
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: It was a bad loss. It was a bad loss, um,
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: you know. And I think you're right to talk about
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: the defense. Um. You know, I know the quarterback thing
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: is the main story, and it is, But more troubling
- 1:25:24Speaker 1: was the play of the entire the entire team the
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: other day. I thought defensively they were terrible. I thought
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: special teams were terrible. Um, So they have to go
- 1:25:34Speaker 1: back to the to the basics. I do think that
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: they they they missed a lot of tackles, they got pushed,
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: they got pushed around. The other day. I thought David
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: Montgomery got a lot of his yards after contact, and
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: that can't happen. I'd expect a better performance against the Jets.
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: So we're going to try to play in a similar way. YEA,
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: thanks William, appreciate the call. Eldred's in North Carolina. Hey Eldred, Hey,
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: Hey those aw y'all doing good? Okay, got a question,
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: fake couple of a couple of guys who was talking.
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: Do you think, you know, y'all wonder why they didn't
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: playing the young guys as much, even though you know
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: you got Colin back and you think Bill chase him
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: up from mortality, that he won't that wind bad as
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: one or what. But he's but he's you know, I
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: don't think so. I don't think the young guys sat
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: out the other day. I mean was the inactive Yeah,
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: but like Anthony Jennings started yea and played and played
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: the whole game. Um, they didn't have I don't think
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: they had young guys that didn't like Jack Jones played
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: a big role. Again Jones, Marty Jones doesn't play a
- 1:26:42Speaker 1: ton of defense, but he was out there a little
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: bit and he actually made a good a good pass
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: break up on one of those plays coming across the
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: field from the slot. Um. I think some of the
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: linebackers they haven't used the faster ones, but I don't
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: think it's necessarily about eight like Mack Wilson and ray
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: Kua mcmilliner. The young guys, they've got a few years
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: in the league. Okay, if you leave the what I'm
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: listening to that press converse? What what how you play
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: Sadah Dallas about starting new young guys? They got a
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: year under the built. Yeah, okay that all of their
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: players basically with the exception of C. J. Mosley, like
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: their whole defense is like in year four or less.
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: Question is why you couldn't do it? You're the greatest
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: coach of all time. Death, Yeah, you know, getting the
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: right players and just stick with it because you know
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: you're in the rebuild. I know everybody wants to playoffs
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: to the Bowls. But but don't you think that that
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: is what he's doing. Like last year they didn't play
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: any young guys. This year, you know you've seen Christian Barmore,
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: Jack Jones, Marcus Jones, Like, I think that they're they're
- 1:27:49Speaker 1: getting some of these younger players more involved. Right, you
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: don't don't you think that? Don't you think that's a process.
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: Now I agree with you. I don't like the move
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: to to add Jamie Oallenge to the mix, that that
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: does nothing for me. Um, But I mean I think
- 1:28:06Speaker 1: they I think they're starting to play young guys earlier
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: in their careers. Mcgron and Perkins hurt. Mcgron's on the
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: practice squad. Perkins is on IR okay, but Perkins can't play. Yeah,
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: well I just won. Well have y'all have a go
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: all right? Thank you? I mean, I just feel like
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: that they have. I mean, I called for this all
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: last year. I remember arguing with you about it. I
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: think that they've done it a little bit. I don't
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: That's not a huge complaint for me this year. I
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: think the young guys have gotten more opportunities. Now with
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: that comes in consistency. That's why they like I don't
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: believe in the Jets, because I don't think you could
- 1:28:43Speaker 1: be that young and and and win getting you know,
- 1:28:46Speaker 1: I give them a lot of credit. They're five and two,
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: they've won four in a row. I just think that
- 1:28:50Speaker 1: they easily could have lost any of these games. And
- 1:28:54Speaker 1: I think they've had some really good fortune along the way.
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: They missed Russell Wilson last week, they missed twa against Miami.
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: They get two touchdowns in the last minute of the
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: game against Cleveland, like this, some good fortune involved in
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: their in their five and two records all ends next week.
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: I met Fred, I gotta be honest with you. I
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: don't want I'm not gonna take my hand, but I
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: think you're right. Like I just I don't think that
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: you can win a lot of games the way that
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: they've tried to win them. And I give them credit.
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: I think they're going in the right direction and if
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: Sala knows what he's doing, I think they can be good. Yeah. Like,
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: I think that they have the pieces in place to
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: build together and then you know, you get three four
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: years in with that group, group corps talent assuming like
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: Garrett Garrett Wilson has been their best receiver. Jamaine Johnson
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: has been He was out of the lineup last week injured,
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: but he's been reasonably productive. Sauce Gardner has been one
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: of the best rookies in football period. Rookie of the
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: Year candidate. Ye, Like, when you start doing things like that.
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: Breece Hall was a second round pick and he was
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: whiting it up. He was a candidate too, you know,
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: So when you start doing that, when if you can
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: get to like year three with a young core that
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: now has thirty five forty NFL games under their belt.
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: Now you should be okay. Yeah, so I think they're
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: going in the right direction. I just think that they're
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: not that good right now. Same with the Giants. Right there,
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: they're getting some good fortune. David and Bethelehem writes, and
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: I was willing to cut Patricius some slack, but I
- 1:30:22Speaker 1: see a conflict between theory and practice for which he
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: is responsible. Who has responsibility for coaching the ol, Who
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: has responsibility for integrating the new offensive scheme scheme, who
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: makes the play calls, who designs the plays. While I
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: agree that Mac hasn't been as good as last year,
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: much blame goes to Matty p In last point, Mac
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: was blindsided in Game one when Brown whiffed ka sing
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: a back injury. I don't know what that means causing Okay,
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: he could he could have a lingering problem which wouldn't
- 1:30:59Speaker 1: hit the injury list, and Zappi is just too short
- 1:31:02Speaker 1: the fixes. I think that there's some validity to his
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: Mac Jones thing. Again, I know what reeks of excuse making.
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: I agree, but I think there's a chance that he's
- 1:31:12Speaker 1: been dealing with stuff from that hit, and he says
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: the fixes. Let Mack pick the first drive plays and
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: if they work, problem solved. Well I'm not sure about that,
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: but well, just so you know, Mac picked the first
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: drive play last week because he changed the play at
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: the linerscrap he did. Yeah, fair enough. I'm just not
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: a big I'm not big into the like the sequence
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: of plays that whatever. Like I don't think it's out
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: of the realm. Like, I don't think it's a crazy
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: notion to come out and do eleven personnel on first
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: and ten from the twenty three, Like, I don't think
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: that that's like this they're setting him up to fail
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: kind of a plan, right, Like I just the play
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: calls for one guy to the other guy. Like, I'm sorry,
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: that just bores me. Bell and Boseman writes in there
- 1:31:58Speaker 1: are a couple of things bothering me about the quarterback discussion.
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: First is the comparisons to Brady and Bledsoe. Fred has
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: said that Bill should just tell us or at least
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: the team, who the quarterback is so they can rally
- 1:32:10Speaker 1: around that guy. But Mac hasn't done anything to deserve
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: that at this point. He had a solid but not
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: great rookie season, and it looks like he's regressed. At best,
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: he stayed the same. If Zappi is pushing for the
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: starting job, that's great. They're supposed to be competition. Whether
- 1:32:26Speaker 1: or not Mac is the guy is hardly obvious at
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: this point. Second, I'm concerned to stop after one. Sure,
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: I want to defend you, all right. I don't think
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: you said he needs it needs to be mac Jones. No,
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: I said, just pick one, just pick a guy. And
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: I also don't think you ever said it needs to
- 1:32:41Speaker 1: be permanent. But mate, so if you if you pick
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: a start right right and Mac Jones, and let's just
- 1:32:46Speaker 1: say you pick mac Jones and he goes out and
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: you know, throws for one hundred and seventy eight yards
- 1:32:51Speaker 1: and three picks on Sunday, you don't have to keep
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: playing him every week. You always have the right to
- 1:32:57Speaker 1: change your mind. I agree that he hasn't done anything
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: to earn the Brady treatment. I agree with that. Yeah,
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: and then if that happens, then on. But I think
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: to you a point, I think the team would be
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: better served to have the identity of the guy, like
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: show confidence, this is what we're doing moving forward, right,
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: And I would say to give him at least a
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: couple of games if he doesn't, If he doesn't improve
- 1:33:19Speaker 1: and he keeps giving the ball away, yeah, you gotta
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: make a chain. You gotta do that. Second, I'm concerned
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: that Paul is experiencing some cognitive dissonance regarding Bill. He
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: was very dismissive of the caller who brought up his
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: record without Brady. Oh, I am not dismissive of that.
- 1:33:33Speaker 1: I just saying we knew what he was talking about,
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: that he was going on and on. I agree that
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: it was pretty ridiculous to point to that a few
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: years ago, right after Brady left, But there is a
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: lot more evidence now supporting brady side. How long are
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: we going to continue to assert that Bill is the
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: greatest and not wonder if he isn't a big part
- 1:33:51Speaker 1: of the problem. Yeah, at like one fifteen am, when
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: the guy is going chapter in verse like in ninety
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: one he went and in ninety four and I'll cut
- 1:33:59Speaker 1: him some slide five because they were moving, like everybody
- 1:34:02Speaker 1: knows that they're rough. I think they're eight game I
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: think the number is eight right now, but they're roughly
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: ten games under five hundred in a large sample size
- 1:34:11Speaker 1: without Brady everybody knows that. Like, that's like, I'm not
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: dismissing the fact I just I knew what the guy
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: was saying and was trying to move it along a
- 1:34:21Speaker 1: little bit. Ah, let's see so many emails, and yes,
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: we get I personally get a little cranky on Overnight's.
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: Uh yeah, shows, I get tired. You just want to
- 1:34:32Speaker 1: get going. I just found like yesterday I texted Beth
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: at like ten thirty. I was like Danny Glover and uh,
- 1:34:41Speaker 1: lethal weapon. Yeah, I'm just getting too old for this bleep.
- 1:34:45Speaker 1: Like I was exhausted yesterday. Yeah, And I used to
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: feel like that. No, it's tough. I think I was
- 1:34:52Speaker 1: asleep at about eight forty five. Gets tougher and tougher
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: to recover Mike and Binghamton, New York. I want to
- 1:34:58Speaker 1: take a second to appreciate something think Fred said last
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: week about evaluating both Mac and Zappy objectively. As a
- 1:35:04Speaker 1: fan who has no knowledge of the x's and oh's,
- 1:35:07Speaker 1: I appreciate the fact that this show makes a dedication
- 1:35:10Speaker 1: to objective criticism, even sometimes to the ire of the
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: fan base. Look at you, Paul, just kidding When that's
- 1:35:17Speaker 1: when there are other shows that may not be so
- 1:35:19Speaker 1: objective to get viewers. I think that is a strong
- 1:35:22Speaker 1: characteristic of you guys in writing this Tuesday night, I'm
- 1:35:26Speaker 1: not so sure if there will be any news on
- 1:35:28Speaker 1: Wednesday morning. We know that during his EI, Okay, so
- 1:35:31Speaker 1: we know what happened after that. But I appreciate that. Yeah,
- 1:35:34Speaker 1: I appreciate it too. I would just say that I
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: don't think people are critical to get viewers, like, I
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: don't think that helps you. Like, if you go on
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: to twitter feed, I'll show I mean, I can show
- 1:35:44Speaker 1: you what happens when you say something critical, like it's
- 1:35:47Speaker 1: nasty because the majority of people that are following you
- 1:35:51Speaker 1: are fans of the team that that that you, that
- 1:35:53Speaker 1: you cover. No, but you they don't want to hear you.
- 1:35:56Speaker 1: You get the engagement. No, But what I'm saying is
- 1:35:59Speaker 1: it's not the way to to like boost the ratings,
- 1:36:03Speaker 1: to say I don't believe this, but I'm gonna say
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: Mac Jones stinks. Well, did you have you talked to
- 1:36:08Speaker 1: Adam Jones. That's not the way. That's not the way
- 1:36:10Speaker 1: it works. No, because Adam Jones is entertaining, I know,
- 1:36:14Speaker 1: but he's he's funny, he's he's purposely critical. I mean
- 1:36:18Speaker 1: he's basically I think he's perfectly cynical, like purposely perfectly
- 1:36:23Speaker 1: like he's funny. Yeah, if he just like said everybody
- 1:36:26Speaker 1: stinks all the time, no one would want to listen
- 1:36:28Speaker 1: to that. He's funny about it, Kevin and Burlington for everybody,
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: by the way, Kevin and Burlington. I was at the game,
- 1:36:35Speaker 1: and I'll admit I was angry with Mac slash bill
- 1:36:38Speaker 1: In loudly booed, at least for me. There were a
- 1:36:41Speaker 1: few factors as to why. Firstly, I'm a Mac guy.
- 1:36:44Speaker 1: I love this decision making last season. I was able
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: to look past his physical limitations because of it, watching
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: him try to play from behind against the Ravens at
- 1:36:52Speaker 1: the end of that game, he was making bad decisions
- 1:36:55Speaker 1: and his limitations were glaring. Coming out to start on Monday,
- 1:36:59Speaker 1: they weren't moving the ball and found themselves in a hole,
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: and once again we saw bad decisions, Mac throwing a
- 1:37:04Speaker 1: pick off his back foot. I also found myself looking
- 1:37:07Speaker 1: at Justin Fields having little trouble moving the ball and
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: couldn't help but think back to the twenty twenty one
- 1:37:13Speaker 1: draft and the pros and cons of each quarterback we
- 1:37:16Speaker 1: all sold ourselves on Mac for his decision making and
- 1:37:19Speaker 1: drank bills kool aid when he didn't move up to
- 1:37:22Speaker 1: get fields. All in all, it was definitely a frustrating
- 1:37:25Speaker 1: night and Mac heard it. The hope is that he
- 1:37:28Speaker 1: isn't that emotional to the point where we can't get
- 1:37:31Speaker 1: past it. Be a grown up play well, turn this
- 1:37:34Speaker 1: thing around. The fans will come around. Yeah, I mean
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: I think I see a lot of points in that.
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: I mean, like, to me, what I and I put
- 1:37:44Speaker 1: the crowd on the bad list, and we talked about
- 1:37:46Speaker 1: that yesterday. It wasn't because people booed, not like I
- 1:37:50Speaker 1: think booing's part of the game. And I actually heard
- 1:37:52Speaker 1: Dante Scarnekia this morning on on Wei saying, you know,
- 1:37:56Speaker 1: it's it's it's the NFL, it's big boy football, Like
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: you have to be able to deal with that, And
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: I agree. I think it was kind of ridiculous that
- 1:38:03Speaker 1: before Mac really even took a snap, there was a
- 1:38:06Speaker 1: smattering of zappy chance right, Like I would think that
- 1:38:10Speaker 1: the fans would at least be excited about the guy
- 1:38:12Speaker 1: coming back and hoping that he's ready to go. Now
- 1:38:16Speaker 1: three you know, three three and outs or whatever. Two
- 1:38:19Speaker 1: three and outs and a pick if if you're like
- 1:38:22Speaker 1: want to boo, like, well you're booing the performance, right, Like,
- 1:38:26Speaker 1: I I don't think there's anything wrong with that, But
- 1:38:29Speaker 1: I just thought the Zappy chance were a bad look,
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: did you? I mean if you disagree, like, because I
- 1:38:34Speaker 1: know some people you know, kind of snap back at
- 1:38:36Speaker 1: me on that and they disagreed. But I just thought
- 1:38:42Speaker 1: before he even really stepped on the field, people were
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: telling everybody they didn't like the fact that he was
- 1:38:47Speaker 1: on the field. Yeah, well it just showed how fickle
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: they are, you know, but they like Zappy better. So now, like,
- 1:38:54Speaker 1: if you want Zappy to play, I don't think that's
- 1:38:56Speaker 1: a bad look, but I would hope that those people
- 1:38:59Speaker 1: that were screaming Zappy after the second half should want
- 1:39:03Speaker 1: Zappi to start this game as well. They shouldn't go
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: back on that. Well, what I'm saying is if you
- 1:39:08Speaker 1: want Zappy to play because you think Zappi is better,
- 1:39:10Speaker 1: that's your opinion. I don't think that's wrong. No, that's fine,
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: But you're still want booing the guy who the coach
- 1:39:16Speaker 1: chose to play, because why because you want the other guys?
- 1:39:21Speaker 1: That's like that to me is kind of silly Bill
- 1:39:25Speaker 1: and DC. I've always been Bill in Bill, I trust guy,
- 1:39:28Speaker 1: but I have to question that trust after the way
- 1:39:30Speaker 1: he handled Mac Monday night. Mac did everything right this offseason,
- 1:39:34Speaker 1: took a leadership role with the players, got himself in
- 1:39:36Speaker 1: great physical shape, then rushed himself back after a pretty
- 1:39:39Speaker 1: bad injury. And what did all that hard work earn
- 1:39:42Speaker 1: him from his head coach, virtually nothing? Pulling him after
- 1:39:45Speaker 1: a few series was just wrong on the part of Bill.
- 1:39:47Speaker 1: Mac deserved the right to try and work off a
- 1:39:49Speaker 1: month's worth of rust Yanking him for the fans newest
- 1:39:52Speaker 1: flavor of the Month was a huge blunder for a
- 1:39:55Speaker 1: guy with his coaching experience. James White said this morning
- 1:39:59Speaker 1: that the locker room is one hundred percent behind Mac.
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: If that's true, then Bill needs to immediately name Mac
- 1:40:04Speaker 1: the starter against the Jets or else we could see
- 1:40:06Speaker 1: a real divide between the players and the coaches. All
- 1:40:11Speaker 1: due respect to James White, I don't think there's one
- 1:40:13Speaker 1: hundred percent in that locker room for anybody right now? Yeah?
- 1:40:19Speaker 1: Do you agree? Um? I think there has to be
- 1:40:22Speaker 1: doubt on you. I don't think they know what I
- 1:40:24Speaker 1: think there has to be some doubt yeah on something.
- 1:40:26Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know. I think this is a
- 1:40:30Speaker 1: huge crossroads game, right Wan and Stratford. I'm team Mac
- 1:40:34Speaker 1: until we're certain he can't play. According to Jason lackinfora
- 1:40:38Speaker 1: Mac Jones could could be available for trade by the combine.
- 1:40:42Speaker 1: That's almost by the combine. I'm sorry I almost barfed
- 1:40:46Speaker 1: at this take earlier, but after listening to the past hour, pu,
- 1:40:49Speaker 1: I no longer can just discard this possibility. If you
- 1:40:52Speaker 1: want to tell me that Zappy plays the rest of
- 1:40:55Speaker 1: the season and Mac asked for a trade, I think
- 1:40:58Speaker 1: that could be a realistic Do you think, like, let's
- 1:41:02Speaker 1: just say for argument's sake, that Zappie starts on Sunday
- 1:41:06Speaker 1: and he plays, okay, and he plays the rest of
- 1:41:08Speaker 1: the year and they win, they win enough, okay, you
- 1:41:13Speaker 1: know they win nine games. Yeah, don't you think that
- 1:41:17Speaker 1: Mac Jones would be you know, did you think it
- 1:41:20Speaker 1: would be unrealistic to say that mac Jones would would
- 1:41:24Speaker 1: go to them and say can you can you trade? Oh? No,
- 1:41:27Speaker 1: for him to say that, no, I don't think now,
- 1:41:28Speaker 1: I'm not telling you that he will be traded, and
- 1:41:30Speaker 1: neither did that report. According to what the guy just said,
- 1:41:33Speaker 1: he said he could be available by the combine next year.
- 1:41:36Speaker 1: Now I thought when I said no way, I thought
- 1:41:38Speaker 1: he meant by for the trade deadline this year. Yeah,
- 1:41:41Speaker 1: which is Tuesday. Right, There's no way they're trading him now.
- 1:41:44Speaker 1: Chris wants to know what reporter sounds like mclovin. It's
- 1:41:48Speaker 1: hilarious to think he's in the room asking postgame questions. Yeah,
- 1:41:52Speaker 1: I for once, I am going to show some some maturity,
- 1:41:55Speaker 1: and I will not. I honestly don't know, So I
- 1:41:58Speaker 1: don't have to even say I'm not answering because I
- 1:42:02Speaker 1: don't know. Let's see, Mike says after reading Evans piece.
- 1:42:07Speaker 1: After further review, he noted that the Patriots seemed to
- 1:42:10Speaker 1: run two different offenses with Mac and Zappy. Is there
- 1:42:13Speaker 1: a reason that they can't blend the two together? Is
- 1:42:15Speaker 1: it just well that's the whole thing. Yeah, are they
- 1:42:18Speaker 1: actually doing? All due respect to Evan, I said it
- 1:42:20Speaker 1: when he was here, I don't believe that that's the case.
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: I believe that they there are times they run different
- 1:42:24Speaker 1: plays because I think different quarterbacks have different strengths. Also,
- 1:42:28Speaker 1: like that's coaching, you know, like you have to take
- 1:42:31Speaker 1: into consideration. Okay, Zappy comes in after three failed drives
- 1:42:35Speaker 1: and you're down ten nothing. So maybe if Mac has
- 1:42:39Speaker 1: still been in there, they would have called the same
- 1:42:41Speaker 1: plays that they had caused. The first pass. What was
- 1:42:43Speaker 1: the first pass that Mac Jones threw in the game
- 1:42:46Speaker 1: the night? Do you recall? Was it the hunter Henry? No,
- 1:42:49Speaker 1: it was a pass on the sideline that he airmailed
- 1:42:51Speaker 1: taking on a twelve yard out. Now, the play ended
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: up getting called back for offsetting penalties, right, but I
- 1:42:58Speaker 1: mean there was nothing like, there was no agree, just
- 1:43:00Speaker 1: bombs away. That's like a drive starting kind of play.
- 1:43:03Speaker 1: A twelve yard out. He overthrew them by five yards. Yep.
- 1:43:07Speaker 1: It's up to Amras back Jeff and California. During the offseason,
- 1:43:12Speaker 1: Paul made the point and I was with him that
- 1:43:14Speaker 1: no matter what happened this season, the Patricia and Judge
- 1:43:16Speaker 1: would get the blame for any struggles the offense had.
- 1:43:19Speaker 1: Almost halfway through the season, it almost seems like a
- 1:43:22Speaker 1: total opposite. Prior to the Baltimore game, that is the
- 1:43:25Speaker 1: way it was trending. But then when the team had
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: some success on offense against Baltimore and then Zappy played
- 1:43:31Speaker 1: reasonably well versus the next three opponents. All the blames
- 1:43:34Speaker 1: seemed to shift to Mac for the offensive troubles after
- 1:43:37Speaker 1: seven games, Who do you guys put more blame on
- 1:43:40Speaker 1: for where the team is at currently Patricia, Judge and
- 1:43:43Speaker 1: Bill or Mac Jones in the players. I would disagree
- 1:43:47Speaker 1: just slightly. I think his premise is pretty good. I
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: think it's still on like by far and away it's
- 1:43:53Speaker 1: Matt Patricia, and I think that you're seeing it now
- 1:43:56Speaker 1: manifested in they're calling different plays like just what they
- 1:44:00Speaker 1: the previous emailer just said, like there's different playbooks for
- 1:44:04Speaker 1: the different different offenses for the different guys. I think
- 1:44:07Speaker 1: what slightly changed this last game is now instead of
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: people blaming Patricia and Judge for all if that ails
- 1:44:13Speaker 1: the offense, what Bill did with the quarterbacks has gotten
- 1:44:16Speaker 1: him in the cross heres now, right? Yeah, I think
- 1:44:19Speaker 1: when they were playing well with ZAPPI I think that
- 1:44:22Speaker 1: Patricia was rightly by the way getting credit for well
- 1:44:27Speaker 1: shepherding a young kid onto the field and not necessarily
- 1:44:31Speaker 1: hanging him out to dry. He was supporting him and
- 1:44:33Speaker 1: helping him. But I don't I still think that anything
- 1:44:37Speaker 1: that was going wrong offensively in the first several weeks
- 1:44:40Speaker 1: was on Matt Patricia. Remember when they they had the
- 1:44:43Speaker 1: ball in overtime against Green Bay and they ran the ball.
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: You know, like Matt Patricia, he's gotta you know, they
- 1:44:50Speaker 1: gotta go for the game, right that, Like, it wasn't
- 1:44:52Speaker 1: until this quarterback decision Monday night. Now Bill's sort of
- 1:44:57Speaker 1: drawing the eye or some fans. It's funny how like
- 1:45:00Speaker 1: somebody can hear the same story and read it differently.
- 1:45:03Speaker 1: That happens all the time now, Gary in the Jersey
- 1:45:07Speaker 1: says Jason Lackanforth has stated that mac Jones will be
- 1:45:11Speaker 1: made available for trade prior to next year's combine. Will
- 1:45:14Speaker 1: be made Okay, that could be, will be okay? Yeah,
- 1:45:18Speaker 1: I don't know. I think there's a long way to
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: go before to marriage back. First of all, Evan, I
- 1:45:23Speaker 1: asked him to walk with me back from practice, and
- 1:45:26Speaker 1: this man decided to get in a car. Oh wow.
- 1:45:31Speaker 1: First of all, Alex Parson. First of all, they reported
- 1:45:39Speaker 1: their podcasts. First of all, Stacy said please drive over.
- 1:45:46Speaker 1: So I followed the rules and we drove over. All right,
- 1:45:49Speaker 1: That's exactly what I heard. After Bill wrapped up, he said,
- 1:45:53Speaker 1: everybody please drive over to the option. He gave the
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: option with him. Yeah, and I'm like, I'm like, Evan
- 1:46:02Speaker 1: has no camera equipment, no tripod, no camera. He has
- 1:46:06Speaker 1: my laptop. I mean, that's the little head. So we've
- 1:46:09Speaker 1: been talking about Bill's press conference, and I think you
- 1:46:13Speaker 1: guys did a good job, you know, collectively the whole
- 1:46:18Speaker 1: room of going at him and not letting up and
- 1:46:21Speaker 1: you know, trying to get the information from different angles.
- 1:46:24Speaker 1: And you know, Bill was being Bill and smiling while
- 1:46:28Speaker 1: he did it, but he wasn't going to tell you,
- 1:46:30Speaker 1: but he did say maybe tomorrow. Um, and I think that,
- 1:46:33Speaker 1: you know, my my, my speculation is that he wants
- 1:46:37Speaker 1: to tell the team before he tells anyone else. Yeah,
- 1:46:39Speaker 1: because I'm like, after this walkthrough, you're really going to
- 1:46:42Speaker 1: see something. You're not going to see anything. I think
- 1:46:44Speaker 1: in his head he knows what he's gonna do, oh
- 1:46:46Speaker 1: for sure. Yeah. Um. And I just love how he
- 1:46:48Speaker 1: replaced day by Day with we'll see how it goes.
- 1:46:51Speaker 1: We'll see how it goes. That's the news saying, no
- 1:46:53Speaker 1: more day by day. That's retired. Now we've entered the
- 1:46:55Speaker 1: we'll see how it goes. Yeah. I do think there's
- 1:46:58Speaker 1: obviously something kind of like what you guys are hinting
- 1:47:00Speaker 1: at there's something that they need to do first before
- 1:47:02Speaker 1: he can come out and tell everybody right away and
- 1:47:05Speaker 1: say maybe he hasn't had a chance to talk to
- 1:47:06Speaker 1: the team yet. Yeah, tell the tea. And I think
- 1:47:08Speaker 1: that that's very plausible. Yeah, maybe it's that maybe they
- 1:47:12Speaker 1: are doing stuff testing Max's ankle after we leave from
- 1:47:16Speaker 1: practice today to even though it's a walkthrough. Maybe it's
- 1:47:19Speaker 1: it's a conditioning situation where they're just gonna have him
- 1:47:22Speaker 1: run on it or what. I don't know, whatever the
- 1:47:24Speaker 1: case may be, but there's obviously something transpiring between today
- 1:47:28Speaker 1: at his press conference to tomorrow at his second press
- 1:47:32Speaker 1: conference of the week that maybe could change. But more importantly,
- 1:47:36Speaker 1: somebody is back from practice and all right, so Evan
- 1:47:56Speaker 1: and Tamara are back from practice. In what was the
- 1:47:59Speaker 1: mood and what did you see? Well, we were missing
- 1:48:03Speaker 1: three players Kyle Dugger, David Andrews and Christian Barmore not
- 1:48:07Speaker 1: spotted at practice. So Dugger is dealing with an ankle,
- 1:48:12Speaker 1: Barmore is a knee and obviously Andrews is a head injury.
- 1:48:17Speaker 1: Just a little bit of what we saw. Obviously, James
- 1:48:20Speaker 1: Ferrens figures to be the top backup option to replace
- 1:48:23Speaker 1: David Andrews in the starting lineup. But I also wouldn't
- 1:48:26Speaker 1: roll out Jason Hines being somewhere on that centered depth chart,
- 1:48:31Speaker 1: not ahead of James Farrens necessarily, but I do think
- 1:48:34Speaker 1: that if let's say he's the third string center at
- 1:48:37Speaker 1: the moment, if something were to happen to James Ferns.
- 1:48:40Speaker 1: A Yanni Kaju was back at practice, so his IR
- 1:48:44Speaker 1: return clock is now ticking, so that signals that they
- 1:48:47Speaker 1: might be bringing him back. And we also saw kicker
- 1:48:49Speaker 1: Tristan Viskayano back at practice, so maybe signing him off
- 1:48:54Speaker 1: to the practice squad again, adding causing him, oh don't know,
- 1:48:59Speaker 1: that's a good question. You can be very mean when
- 1:49:05Speaker 1: he hasn't, let's face it, yeah, you know, going on
- 1:49:08Speaker 1: two years now. It's a weird thing too, because we
- 1:49:10Speaker 1: we've asked cam Accord before because let's face it, like
- 1:49:13Speaker 1: we're punting and kicking as a whole different ball game, right,
- 1:49:16Speaker 1: Like we're not going to sit here and start breaking
- 1:49:18Speaker 1: down punter mechanics and things like that. So we've tried
- 1:49:22Speaker 1: to get some insight at a cam Accord And I'm
- 1:49:24Speaker 1: not trying to say that he's punting well by any means,
- 1:49:28Speaker 1: but I do think in certain situations there might be
- 1:49:31Speaker 1: things going on that they're telling him to do where
- 1:49:34Speaker 1: they're not necessarily going for distance, or they're not necessarily going, um,
- 1:49:37Speaker 1: you know, for they're trying to kick a specific type
- 1:49:40Speaker 1: of punt. I don't think they're telling them to hit
- 1:49:42Speaker 1: a line drive directly too. Now, I think that there's
- 1:49:45Speaker 1: like there's a couple of things here, and I didn't
- 1:49:49Speaker 1: count this on the list of things I didn't think
- 1:49:51Speaker 1: would come up today during the show, but valid point
- 1:49:53Speaker 1: good punting talk. So I do think that he's struggled
- 1:49:58Speaker 1: with plus fifty punting. I don't think that he's done
- 1:50:00Speaker 1: a good job of picking it out of the end
- 1:50:03Speaker 1: ze people like pinning him inside the ten specific because
- 1:50:05Speaker 1: I think a lot of people like the stat is
- 1:50:07Speaker 1: inside the twenty. I think there's a big difference between
- 1:50:09Speaker 1: like a fair catch at the seventeen and then one
- 1:50:12Speaker 1: at like the seven. Yeah, they do both. You know,
- 1:50:14Speaker 1: some places have both inside ten and inside So I
- 1:50:17Speaker 1: think that he struggled with touchbacks as opposed to inside
- 1:50:20Speaker 1: the ten, and that's you know, that can make a
- 1:50:23Speaker 1: bad net average, but to you a point Fred I've
- 1:50:26Speaker 1: seen too many thirty something yard punts from his own
- 1:50:29Speaker 1: twenty and I would say, like to Evans point that
- 1:50:32Speaker 1: sometimes it's directionals. Sometimes they're going, you know, keeping it away.
- 1:50:36Speaker 1: They're given up like chunky returns, like multiple times m
- 1:50:42Speaker 1: DuVernay had the one in Baltimore's Duverna had a forty
- 1:50:45Speaker 1: something yard return the guy like the other night, Pettis
- 1:50:48Speaker 1: was clearly like compromised with a hamstring problem that he
- 1:50:51Speaker 1: left early in the first half and then came back.
- 1:50:54Speaker 1: He had a couple of plays in the open field
- 1:50:56Speaker 1: that I think we're touchdowns if he was, if he
- 1:50:58Speaker 1: was healthy, and that was one of them. Yeah, punt
- 1:51:00Speaker 1: return So yeah, they might be telling them to directional
- 1:51:04Speaker 1: punt or do you know, do something, but it's not working.
- 1:51:06Speaker 1: They get tricky with the spin on the ball too.
- 1:51:09Speaker 1: So the muff punt last week in Cleveland, Matthew Slater
- 1:51:14Speaker 1: actually gave Jake Bailey credit. This is where I can't
- 1:51:18Speaker 1: very kicking a certain type of ball right. The spin
- 1:51:21Speaker 1: on the ball is a certain way that makes it
- 1:51:23Speaker 1: difficult for the punt returner to field. So I'm not
- 1:51:26Speaker 1: saying that Jake Bailey is punting well, I'm with everybody
- 1:51:28Speaker 1: that he's not punting. Well, I'm just telling you that
- 1:51:30Speaker 1: when we ask people about it, they're like, oh, well,
- 1:51:33Speaker 1: you know, sometimes we're trying to do different things, and
- 1:51:35Speaker 1: you know, they're kind of excusing it away, which is
- 1:51:37Speaker 1: interesting I think. So back to practice, you were indoors, yes,
- 1:51:41Speaker 1: um was there a lot of people in there from
- 1:51:44Speaker 1: the media or like them when they go indoors any more.
- 1:51:48Speaker 1: Not anymore, no more COVID limitations inside, so everybody can go.
- 1:51:52Speaker 1: It was a pretty good contingent. I think Belichick's press
- 1:51:55Speaker 1: conference this morning was a draw. And then we also
- 1:51:57Speaker 1: found out that Mac Jones is going to be talking
- 1:51:59Speaker 1: this afternoon. We're gonna say we all also found out
- 1:52:01Speaker 1: it was Chick fil A, Okay, but yeah, Mac Jones
- 1:52:08Speaker 1: is speaking today. We didn't already eat. Yeah, Mac Jones
- 1:52:12Speaker 1: is speaking at the podium. Yeah, I wonder if he'll
- 1:52:14Speaker 1: be you know, give the same answer to this as Bill. Yeah,
- 1:52:17Speaker 1: well whatever the coach says. You know, we're just trying.
- 1:52:20Speaker 1: But that's the other thing about not naming the starters,
- 1:52:22Speaker 1: because by obligation, they have to bring a quarterback to
- 1:52:25Speaker 1: the podium every Usually they do it on Wednesdays. It
- 1:52:28Speaker 1: doesn't matter what day it is, but by obligation, the
- 1:52:31Speaker 1: quarterback needs to talk. I think technically in the rule
- 1:52:34Speaker 1: in the by laws, it's the starting quarterback. I was
- 1:52:37Speaker 1: just gonna say, but I don't you know now in
- 1:52:39Speaker 1: this situation, who the heck knows who the starting quarterback?
- 1:52:41Speaker 1: And then they did ask if Bailey Zappy would be
- 1:52:43Speaker 1: available at his locker, and he's like, we don't know yet. Okay,
- 1:52:46Speaker 1: so but they have to fulfill that obligation. So now
- 1:52:52Speaker 1: mac Jones is going to go out in front of
- 1:52:54Speaker 1: the podium after Bill declined to it, name him the starter,
- 1:52:58Speaker 1: and now he's going to have to feel the million
- 1:52:59Speaker 1: questions about what's happening for the game on Sunday, and
- 1:53:03Speaker 1: he's gonna have to answer questions about who's playing in
- 1:53:08Speaker 1: the game and if what the situation is going to
- 1:53:10Speaker 1: be and stuff like that. So look, I know he's
- 1:53:12Speaker 1: gonna have his rehearsed answers, but you're still opening him
- 1:53:15Speaker 1: up to having to go out there and and essentially
- 1:53:18Speaker 1: fall on the sword like Zappy did last week. Right,
- 1:53:22Speaker 1: it's just unnecessary, unnecessary. Well, hopefully behind the scenes he's
- 1:53:27Speaker 1: saying the right things to the players so that they
- 1:53:30Speaker 1: know what the plan is because we don't know right now. Um,
- 1:53:35Speaker 1: anything else like that came out of practice that you
- 1:53:38Speaker 1: want to talk about. You know, it was a walkthrough, right,
- 1:53:41Speaker 1: just yeah, shorts and shells or yeah, Trent Brown wasn't
- 1:53:46Speaker 1: in a jersey, so we could be seeing like a
- 1:53:49Speaker 1: veteran day off or something like that there for Trent Brown,
- 1:53:53Speaker 1: which when they're not really doing much anyways, I'm not
- 1:53:55Speaker 1: I'm not sure if that really matters, but he for
- 1:53:58Speaker 1: some reason, he was one of the I think the
- 1:54:01Speaker 1: only player that wasn't in a in a jersey of
- 1:54:04Speaker 1: some sort, So I thought that was interesting. Yeah, it
- 1:54:07Speaker 1: was really weird when he walked by Odd Ben and
- 1:54:11Speaker 1: Brooklyn wants to know he said with the Bears that
- 1:54:15Speaker 1: the design runs were new for Fields, and he wants
- 1:54:18Speaker 1: wondering do you think there was extra motivation on the
- 1:54:21Speaker 1: part of the Bears not to have Belichick pass Hallis
- 1:54:25Speaker 1: on their watch? No, I do you think that Matt
- 1:54:30Speaker 1: eberflus Er, justin Fields gives a crap about George Hallis? Oh,
- 1:54:35Speaker 1: I don't know, you never know. I mean, you want
- 1:54:38Speaker 1: to go with one of those sort of coiny like
- 1:54:40Speaker 1: divine intervention kind of things like, but do you think
- 1:54:47Speaker 1: Justin Field's even new that Bill Belichick had a chance
- 1:54:51Speaker 1: to pass George Hallis on the All Time Wins? I
- 1:54:53Speaker 1: don't know. I know, on this team, Bill comes up
- 1:54:56Speaker 1: with stuff like that, Like, you know, he'll give a
- 1:54:59Speaker 1: little background on the coaches, their their tendencies, their backgrounds.
- 1:55:04Speaker 1: I could see him talking about another coach saying, you know,
- 1:55:07Speaker 1: this coach has a chance of passing. I could see
- 1:55:10Speaker 1: Bill saying that to his team. I just don't think,
- 1:55:13Speaker 1: you know, he perfus in his first year as the
- 1:55:15Speaker 1: head coach there. He's just trying to win games. And
- 1:55:17Speaker 1: I think for Justin Fields, if there's any sort of
- 1:55:19Speaker 1: extra motivation, it's that the Patriots didn't draft him. Being
- 1:55:23Speaker 1: that was hot much higher on his list, was proving
- 1:55:26Speaker 1: that you picked the wrong guy. Yeah, he scouted all
- 1:55:28Speaker 1: of us. You were at my pro day and you
- 1:55:30Speaker 1: took Mac and and look at what you missed out on. Like,
- 1:55:33Speaker 1: I think that's way more motivation than George. Well, I
- 1:55:35Speaker 1: know players they think that way. Yeah, I'm gonna show you. Yeah.
- 1:55:41Speaker 1: We had Vince Wilfork on one of those podcasts Matt
- 1:55:45Speaker 1: Matt Smith and I on pats from the past. Yeah,
- 1:55:47Speaker 1: and he rattled off the twenty three guys chosen ahead
- 1:55:52Speaker 1: of him in the first round. I think he was
- 1:55:54Speaker 1: twenty fourth. That's ringing a bell to me, but I
- 1:55:56Speaker 1: might be off by he rattled off the names of
- 1:55:58Speaker 1: the guys like nothing. All the guys draft and he
- 1:56:02Speaker 1: could tell you every guy, all the Miami guys. He
- 1:56:05Speaker 1: was like, you know, he got drafted before me, Like right,
- 1:56:09Speaker 1: every guy they remember, they remember. You know, you would think, oh,
- 1:56:12Speaker 1: you know you're in the league, you made your money,
- 1:56:14Speaker 1: you had a great career, you won super Bowls. They
- 1:56:16Speaker 1: still remember that. Yeah, they still remember that, and they
- 1:56:19Speaker 1: take it as a slight all right, we're gonna wrap
- 1:56:22Speaker 1: it up. It was a fun two hours. What are
- 1:56:25Speaker 1: we going on after this? Catch twenty two? Right, yes,
- 1:56:28Speaker 1: catch twenty two? Yeah, some more more punting talk. I
- 1:56:31Speaker 1: think Alex Barth would like to reintroduce the punting topic
- 1:56:35Speaker 1: topic because he knows Evan really likes it. This is
- 1:56:37Speaker 1: one of those things that Alex will be like, you
- 1:56:39Speaker 1: gotta give me two minutes on the punter. All right.
- 1:56:42Speaker 1: I don't care when it is, but you gotta give
- 1:56:44Speaker 1: me two minutes to talk about the punter and then
- 1:56:45Speaker 1: two minutes becomes ten. That's like Bill, he'll answer with
- 1:56:49Speaker 1: like a seven minute answer. I know. I tried to
- 1:56:51Speaker 1: get him. I was like, oh, I'll ask you a
- 1:56:52Speaker 1: question about the Jets defense, because you know, I thought
- 1:56:54Speaker 1: maybe he would give me like a two paragraph answer.
- 1:56:57Speaker 1: He gave me a decent he actually agreed with. I
- 1:57:00Speaker 1: think I think he well welcome the question that wasn't
- 1:57:02Speaker 1: about the quarterback. Yeah, that's what I was trying to do,
- 1:57:05Speaker 1: you know, give him, give him something else to talk about.
- 1:57:07Speaker 1: All right, um, unfiltered live. Oh yes, tomorrow. We'll be
- 1:57:11Speaker 1: on video tomorrow. So not that we're not live today,
- 1:57:14Speaker 1: but we're just audio today. Tomorrow will be on video,
- 1:57:18Speaker 1: so we'll have Paul. We have to wear decent clothing. Okay,
- 1:57:22Speaker 1: I don't like that hoodie thing you're wearing. Yeah, I
- 1:57:24Speaker 1: don't or you wearing purple? Yeah, I don't like you
- 1:57:26Speaker 1: don't like me wearing purple? No? Why it's not my color? No?
- 1:57:31Speaker 1: Just kidding? Good, I don't think she's kidding. Who knew? Sorry?
- 1:57:37Speaker 1: Not sorry? All right, all right, thanks everyone, we'll talk
