- 0:25I love the chase and the hunt and
- 0:26I set the pace when I'm running.
- 0:27I always take what I want and I
- 0:29always give it one hundred.
- 0:30Don't need a bank, no I'm funded.
- 0:32Play the game like it's nothing.
- 0:33I'm always thankful for something.
- 0:35Don't take for granted, stay humble.
- 0:36Now wake up!
- 0:38It's time to look at the enemy.
- 0:40Look in the mirror if he is no
- 0:42friend to me.
- 0:43It's not working out,
- 0:44maybe it's the chemistry.
- 0:46It's time to break up.
- 0:57What is going on everybody?
- 0:59Welcome to Lunch with Clydesdale.
- 1:01So freaking stoked to be here with you
- 1:04today.
- 1:05Lots of bears talking in the chat already.
- 1:08Am I muted?
- 1:12Am I muted?
- 1:16Let me double check my audio real quick.
- 1:19It says I'm good.
- 1:23Okay.
- 1:25So, um,
- 1:29I was actually just lip syncing with the
- 1:31pre-loaded sound, guys.
- 1:33That's all.
- 1:34So I probably threw you off.
- 1:37Anyway.
- 1:41So there it is.
- 1:44Yeah, I was lip syncing.
- 1:45I really threw you all off.
- 1:47Anyway,
- 1:48I'm so stoked to be here with you.
- 1:51The Bears had one hell of a playoff
- 1:54game this weekend.
- 1:55So much fun to watch for the second
- 1:58half.
- 1:59The first half was painful.
- 2:03And then as they have done six previous
- 2:06times,
- 2:07came back from a big deficit to end
- 2:09up winning the game.
- 2:11I cannot believe we're having the season
- 2:13we're having.
- 2:15The throws that Caleb made in that game
- 2:17were mind-boggling.
- 2:20The talent on this team is something I'm
- 2:22not used to.
- 2:24But what I wanted to talk about briefly,
- 2:27I was kind of hoping Corey was going
- 2:28to jump on today because I wanted a
- 2:30little back and forth,
- 2:31but we'll do it this way.
- 2:33And that is, you know,
- 2:34they have this miraculous comeback.
- 2:38And if you're not a Bears fan or
- 2:40a Packers fan,
- 2:42it is the oldest rivalry in the NFL.
- 2:45The towns are only...
- 2:48...forty-five minutes apart.
- 2:51It is insane.
- 2:54Married couples are split.
- 2:57It is just the oldest rivalry.
- 2:59The owners of the Bears...
- 3:02have said over and over again they really
- 3:05don't care about the season as long as
- 3:06they beat the peckers it is it is
- 3:09like a college-esque rivalry so um so
- 3:14anyway at the end of the game i'm
- 3:16going to share my screen and there and
- 3:18you know customarily uh the coaches come
- 3:22to midfield and do a handshake and so
- 3:27uh i'm going to share
- 3:32this video with you guys I think this
- 3:37is it okay so that is Matt LaFleur
- 3:41you can see there he is the head
- 3:42coach of the Green Bay Packers you'll see
- 3:45Ben Ben Johnson come in and go to
- 3:50shake his hand and I'm going to hit
- 3:52play here and this is the fuss that
- 3:56has gone on that's a very cursory
- 3:57handshake oh love lost between these
- 4:10So,
- 4:13everybody's calling it the blow-by
- 4:15handshake.
- 4:16My question is, when did we care?
- 4:22When did it become a mandate that we
- 4:24had to go shake our opponents' hands after
- 4:27a game?
- 4:28I get it for like eight, nine,
- 4:30ten-year-olds in Little League that it's
- 4:32part of sportsmanship.
- 4:34And at that age,
- 4:35you shouldn't be taking things so
- 4:36seriously.
- 4:37But these guys are getting paid to beat
- 4:42one another.
- 4:44They have both admitted they do not like
- 4:46one another.
- 4:47They do not like the other team.
- 4:50Why is it that we then have to
- 4:52mandate that they actually come to the
- 4:55middle of the field after sixty minutes of
- 4:58battling each other out,
- 5:01whooping each other's ass,
- 5:03and then you have to come to the
- 5:05middle of the field and have a handshake?
- 5:09And then we read into, well,
- 5:11he blew by.
- 5:12They didn't stop and have a conversation.
- 5:14They don't like each other.
- 5:17Dick Vitale,
- 5:18the longtime ESPN basketball analyst,
- 5:21said that Ben Johnson ruined the magic of
- 5:25the comeback by doing this blow-off
- 5:29handshake and in a post-game locker room
- 5:33celebration said, F the Packers.
- 5:41I think Dick Vitale is way too old
- 5:44to be in touch with what's going on
- 5:46in the world.
- 5:49It is pure insanity to me that we
- 5:53put any relevance on any of this stuff.
- 5:57I love that we hate the Packers.
- 6:00I love that the Packers hate us.
- 6:02It means more when we beat the Packers,
- 6:05especially when we beat the Packers in the
- 6:07playoffs and come back from a twenty one
- 6:10to three deficit and come all the way
- 6:12back to win the game.
- 6:15I want my coach to say F the
- 6:17Packers.
- 6:18I want my coach to...
- 6:21And I just got done watching his press
- 6:23conference this morning,
- 6:24and he is standing by it all.
- 6:26He said he knows what this rivalry means.
- 6:28He knows what it means to the city
- 6:30of Chicago, and he hates that team.
- 6:34And everything he does is about beating
- 6:37that team.
- 6:42it just boggles my mind that we treat
- 6:44professional athletes who get paid like
- 6:48they're an eight-year-old little nigger
- 6:50that has to go to school with Tommy
- 6:52tomorrow,
- 6:53so let's go shake his hand and say
- 6:54good game.
- 7:00So I ask you, uh,
- 7:06Chet Anufi, I see it on every level.
- 7:08It's like the world wants to rid sports
- 7:10of competition, battle,
- 7:12healthy aggression, sad state of affairs.
- 7:15Kenneth DeLapp, God forbid men be men.
- 7:19Well, and here's this,
- 7:21and I'm going to try to apply this
- 7:23to like the CrossFit world.
- 7:25I think one thing that the CrossFit space
- 7:28is missing is
- 7:30is good old-fashioned trash talking where
- 7:35two competitors don't like one another.
- 7:40And we came close to that, I think,
- 7:43with Laura and Tia,
- 7:46but it never came to full resolution
- 7:51because of Tia's pregnancy and then Laura
- 7:54boycotting the games.
- 7:58And so I find that when the trash
- 8:01talking is there and we have this sports
- 8:05hate, it's not life hate,
- 8:07it's sports hate for another team.
- 8:10It actually adds intrigue and it adds
- 8:14drama to the game that we're watching.
- 8:17And it makes things way more exciting.
- 8:22Way more exciting.
- 8:24And I think that that's one thing that
- 8:27CrossFit needs to add.
- 8:32And Jody here is saying that I,
- 8:34you know,
- 8:35Scott wanted to see a cat fight typical
- 8:37guy.
- 8:38I didn't,
- 8:38I don't care if it's on the men's
- 8:40side or the women's side.
- 8:42i've said on the show over and over
- 8:44again i want laura back in the games
- 8:47i want this competition it sucks that tia
- 8:51is pregnant and it sucks that probably
- 8:53laura isn't going to compete this year in
- 8:56the game season but i wanted that back
- 8:59i want to see some kind of intrigue
- 9:04and drama and trash talking between two
- 9:08athletes
- 9:10And we almost had it with Ricky and
- 9:12Matt.
- 9:13And then Ricky popped for steroids.
- 9:15And now Ricky's come back a much gentler
- 9:18and nicer Ricky.
- 9:20So now we don't have that bad guy
- 9:21to root for.
- 9:23But the reason I kind of brought this
- 9:25up is... And here's court.
- 9:29Let me...
- 9:31I can say with full chest F the
- 9:33Falcons.
- 9:34I also hope Liverpool lose every match
- 9:37they play.
- 9:38Right.
- 9:38We have these things.
- 9:41You know,
- 9:41I can also say I root for two
- 9:43college football teams.
- 9:44I root for Penn State and whoever Ohio
- 9:47State is playing.
- 9:52I can do that too.
- 9:54But
- 9:56Last night,
- 9:57we were doing the Sunday night show,
- 9:59and we brought up a pencil, pen,
- 10:01and sharpie about will Pat Vellner return
- 10:05for the twenty-six CrossFit Games season.
- 10:09And a lot of people said pencil.
- 10:15A couple people said pen.
- 10:16I said sharpie.
- 10:18And it's probably more hopeful than
- 10:20anything, right?
- 10:21And Larry Young was in the chat and
- 10:23he said that all the people that decided
- 10:25not to do the twenty five CrossFit game
- 10:27season,
- 10:28he just doesn't care about anymore and
- 10:31doesn't want to root for anymore.
- 10:32And he's entitled to that opinion.
- 10:35And that's a fine opinion.
- 10:37I personally want everybody back together
- 10:39so we have the best athletes in the
- 10:41space going up against each other.
- 10:44But I want to ask Larry this.
- 10:49If you don't like Pat Vellner anymore
- 10:50because he did that,
- 10:53why not welcome him back and root against
- 10:56him?
- 10:59Rooting against somebody sometimes has
- 11:01more passion than rooting for somebody.
- 11:06And if you have someone that you really
- 11:08like and someone that you think is
- 11:10awesome,
- 11:11you can root for that person to beat
- 11:12the person you dislike.
- 11:16Instead of saying,
- 11:17let's not welcome them back,
- 11:19why not welcome them back and root for
- 11:21them to lose if that's the opinion you
- 11:23have?
- 11:27That's not necessarily my opinion.
- 11:30I think that Pat has done so much
- 11:31for this sport over his tenure that if
- 11:35he had one week that made him one
- 11:38year that he decided to do one thing,
- 11:40I'm not going to discredit all the good
- 11:42he's done for the sport.
- 11:46And it's funny because Kenneth actually
- 11:47brought up my next point.
- 11:50Just make him a heel,
- 11:51even if it's only in your mind.
- 11:54Yeah,
- 11:55like if you grew up like me watching
- 11:57wrestling all the time,
- 11:59when your favorite wrestler turned heel,
- 12:01it was shocking.
- 12:03It was shocking when they went heel,
- 12:05and you had to make the choice,
- 12:07do I now root for the bad guy
- 12:09that's the heel,
- 12:11or do I root against my old favorite
- 12:16who turned heel and hope that he loses?
- 12:20Either way,
- 12:21it's generally a passionate decision.
- 12:24And I think it adds intrigue to the
- 12:28drama and the storyline of the event.
- 12:35Larry Young says WWF versus WCW.
- 12:38I think it's even more than that.
- 12:40Like when Hulk Hogan went heel,
- 12:42that was a huge dramatic thing in the
- 12:45world of wrestling and probably sports.
- 12:50Hulk Hogan, the all-American hero,
- 12:52saying his prayers and eating his vitamins
- 12:55and doing all that kind of stuff.
- 12:57And when he turned heel,
- 12:59the wrestling world lost its damn mind.
- 13:03And if you watch the Vince McMahon
- 13:05documentary,
- 13:06it was the pivot point that actually made
- 13:09WCW a viable contender to the WWE.
- 13:15And so when these things happen,
- 13:17you can capitalize on them and make things
- 13:19more popular.
- 13:22So Larry responds, I like Pat.
- 13:24He was one of my favorites,
- 13:25but when they change leagues,
- 13:27it's like baseball.
- 13:28I pay attention to my league.
- 13:32And I'm not, again, like Larry,
- 13:34I get why you feel the way you
- 13:35do and it's fine.
- 13:37I just ask you,
- 13:39why not want him back so you can
- 13:41then root against him?
- 13:43I think that brings more and more passion
- 13:46to the table.
- 13:47And you're going to have people like
- 13:48Ortega who still love Pat.
- 13:51And that's what makes it great, right?
- 13:53Then you have these discussions and these
- 13:55debates and things on shows like this or
- 13:59live in an event when you love someone
- 14:02and they hate somebody and you're rooting
- 14:04for and against the same person.
- 14:16Chelsea Miller.
- 14:17Honestly,
- 14:17how great is it when fee beats Danielle
- 14:19Brandon in a workout?
- 14:20It makes so much,
- 14:21it makes it so much better.
- 14:23See, I think that's a great point,
- 14:24Chelsea.
- 14:24And it's one that I forgot to bring
- 14:26up.
- 14:27So thank you so much for that.
- 14:29The fee Danielle thing is real.
- 14:33Like fee is in the comments,
- 14:35making her points.
- 14:40And Fee is not the person I would
- 14:41have suspected to be the antagonist with
- 14:49Danielle Brandon.
- 14:51But it's cool because they are polar
- 14:52opposites from one another.
- 14:54Fee is one of the nicest people you
- 14:56will ever meet.
- 14:57And her public persona matches that.
- 15:00Danielle Brandon's public persona is let's
- 15:04burn the house down.
- 15:06And it is a perfect yin and yang
- 15:09thing.
- 15:11What would make it epic is if he
- 15:15got to a point where she was with
- 15:18competitive with Danielle on the regular.
- 15:20What,
- 15:27See,
- 15:27what makes the rivalry even better is when
- 15:29both teams are on the same level.
- 15:33For years,
- 15:34the Packers whooped up on the Bears.
- 15:36We were the nail to their hammer,
- 15:39and it was not a good rivalry.
- 15:41The Bears have turned things around.
- 15:43In the last five games,
- 15:46they are up three to two,
- 15:49and all five games have come down to
- 15:51the final two minutes.
- 15:53That is a good rivalry.
- 15:55That means something.
- 15:58When you get someone,
- 16:01and this is completely hypothetical,
- 16:03I am not putting this out into the
- 16:05universe, but just say,
- 16:09Jason Hopper and Dallin Pepper have a
- 16:11falling out.
- 16:13And they're both on the same level,
- 16:15and now they hate each other,
- 16:17and it becomes this interesting,
- 16:19dramatic moment
- 16:22thing that happens in the sport.
- 16:26What I loved about CrossFit when I first
- 16:27came in is that it was a very
- 16:31supportive community and very wholesome.
- 16:35And fifteen years in, I'm like, man,
- 16:38I just want a little bit of a
- 16:40little bit of edge,
- 16:42a little bit of an edge in the
- 16:43sports side, not in the like,
- 16:45I want to lose weight or I want
- 16:47to get strong and I go to my
- 16:49affiliate every single day.
- 16:52In the sport,
- 16:52I just want a little bit more of
- 16:55that fee Danielle thing that happens.
- 17:03So.
- 17:08Joseph Ramirez,
- 17:09I wanted Pat to win the games at
- 17:11one point.
- 17:11Now I hope he doesn't make it to
- 17:13the games.
- 17:15See, I want him back,
- 17:16and I want him to make the games,
- 17:18and I want him to be a disruptor.
- 17:26Mark Phillips is still on the Uncle Pat
- 17:27train.
- 17:28See, we have all these differing opinions.
- 17:30That's what makes this beautiful.
- 17:33You guys are making my point so eloquently
- 17:35in these comments.
- 17:39I think it is awesome.
- 17:53Larry says, but if Pat comes back,
- 17:54I won't hope he does bad.
- 17:56But yes,
- 17:56I cheer for someone to beat Laura.
- 18:00Chelsea brings up,
- 18:01I think Laura and Gabby are the closest
- 18:02we have to that.
- 18:03That one I actually had in my mind
- 18:05as a potential great rivalry.
- 18:09But Laura has to compete in the game
- 18:11season.
- 18:16She has to to make it mean something.
- 18:22Vicky, a little drama is good for sports.
- 18:25I totally, totally agree.
- 18:27Totally agree.
- 18:31Corey says,
- 18:31I still stand on Jeff Adler saying,
- 18:33I don't give a shit who wins the
- 18:34next event so long as it isn't him.
- 18:37About and to Matt Frazier in the twenty
- 18:40twenty CrossFit Games.
- 18:43That's the kind of energy we need.
- 18:46And I don't want it to be that
- 18:48that's all the energy.
- 18:50We just need some.
- 18:52We just need some good energy.
- 19:09That's when Jeff was cool.
- 19:17Larry says you open.
- 19:18Now I could get way fitter and it's
- 19:20not to show if more people sign up
- 19:23with it just being all light cardio.
- 19:28Okay.
- 19:30Um, so yeah.
- 19:35Um,
- 19:36That was like the main thing I wanted
- 19:38to talk about.
- 19:41The last thing on my bears,
- 19:43the one thing that's blowing my mind is
- 19:45I actually have a team with a quarterback
- 19:47who has an it factor.
- 19:49That has never been the case in my
- 19:51lifetime.
- 19:52Jim McMahon for a year or two,
- 19:54but then he got broken down too much.
- 19:57But other than that,
- 19:58the Bears have never had a quarterback
- 20:00with a nit factor.
- 20:01And to watch Caleb Williams every week do
- 20:04the stuff that he does is off the
- 20:07chain amazing.
- 20:10Um, and I just, I love it.
- 20:14I love the, the bullish attitude,
- 20:16you know, in his press conference,
- 20:18speaking about what we did, you know,
- 20:19he said the Packers wanted us.
- 20:21They wanted us.
- 20:22They kept saying they wanted us.
- 20:23Well,
- 20:24they got us and we're here to stay.
- 20:26That's the quarterback I want.
- 20:30Um,
- 20:36Vicky,
- 20:37every great movie needs a protagonist and
- 20:38an antagonist.
- 20:39Sometimes it's a full-on villain.
- 20:42Sometimes it's not quite as in your face.
- 20:44But both are needed for a great story.
- 20:47Couldn't have said that better myself.
- 20:52Corey,
- 20:52just need someone with that kind of energy
- 20:54to shake things up.
- 20:55Someone to say, you know what?
- 20:57F that guy.
- 21:00Larry said,
- 21:00Jeff was cool when talking shit in
- 21:02Russian.
- 21:04Here's what I think about Jeff.
- 21:07We didn't get the real Jeff last year.
- 21:09Jeff was hurt.
- 21:11Jeff was working through some things,
- 21:13and because of that,
- 21:15he wasn't able to give everything he had
- 21:18at last year's games.
- 21:20I hope we get the Jeff from Rogue.
- 21:23The Jeff from Rogue was talking smack.
- 21:25He was getting some confidence back.
- 21:28I hope that he gets whatever injuries he's
- 21:31been working through healed in time for
- 21:34the
- 21:37Um,
- 21:38because I think him added to the mix
- 21:41right now, we have this group of guys,
- 21:44uh,
- 21:45the boys interrupted group that all hang
- 21:47out together, that all support each other,
- 21:50that all do all of that stuff, right?
- 21:53Jeff doesn't hang out with them.
- 21:56It's not that they hate each other.
- 21:58It's not that they dislike each other.
- 22:00He's just not part of that clique, right?
- 22:04And at least it gives us that.
- 22:06This guy that can disrupt what they have
- 22:10going on over here, this group of four.
- 22:13Because a group of four could dominate for
- 22:15a while as a group unless somebody like
- 22:19Jeff Adler or Colton Mertens or...
- 22:25Ricky Garrard or Jay Crouch jump into that
- 22:28mix and mess that up.
- 22:32So maybe it's more of a disruptor to
- 22:35the click than an individual versus
- 22:39individual thing.
- 22:45Yeah.
- 22:45Chelsea said Jeff was fully checked out at
- 22:47the games.
- 22:48I think once the,
- 22:49whatever he was going through went,
- 22:52he just knew he didn't have it to
- 22:53compete.
- 22:55And he lost a lot of motivation that
- 22:59weekend.
- 22:59And it was sad to see, you know,
- 23:01the one down thing of having the,
- 23:04the full access in the warmup area.
- 23:06I got to see him back there and
- 23:08his demeanor changed dramatically from day
- 23:11one to day two.
- 23:13And.
- 23:15That's why I was really hopeful at Rogue
- 23:17when he won.
- 23:19And in the process,
- 23:20you could tell there was more confidence
- 23:23in whatever body part was hurt,
- 23:25that he was able to get through that
- 23:27pain-free at the time.
- 23:35Chelsea also says, personally,
- 23:36I think the boys interrupted group may
- 23:37save Justin's career.
- 23:40I do not disagree with that statement
- 23:41whatsoever.
- 23:43But I do think that all the amazing
- 23:48things they are doing for the sport,
- 23:50and it's a lot.
- 23:52It is a lot.
- 23:53They are really going OG.
- 23:55James and Dallin and Jason doing all these
- 23:59videos and going with Dave to different
- 24:01events and all of that stuff.
- 24:04And Justin doing the tour of the
- 24:07affiliates on the way to Waterpalooza
- 24:10SoCal.
- 24:10And I think they're doing so much for
- 24:12the sport.
- 24:14But anytime you get that much attention,
- 24:17there's going to be content fatigue.
- 24:21So then there's going to be a group
- 24:23that want someone like a Jeff Adler or
- 24:26a Colton Mertens or a Jay Crouch to
- 24:29interrupt what's going on there.
- 24:33I don't know if it's going to happen
- 24:34this year.
- 24:35I don't know if it's going to happen
- 24:36next year.
- 24:37But at some point,
- 24:38people are going to start rooting for
- 24:40someone to kind of take that away from
- 24:43them.
- 24:47It's just the way sports are.
- 24:50When the Patriots won their first Super
- 24:52Bowl, I wanted them to win so bad.
- 24:53They had been bad for so long.
- 24:56And then they won their second.
- 24:57And then they won their third.
- 24:59And then I just wanted anybody to beat
- 25:01the Patriots.
- 25:05Um, and so that happens all the time.
- 25:09Same thing happened with the chiefs.
- 25:11The chiefs had been so bad for so
- 25:12long.
- 25:13I wanted them to win a super bowl
- 25:15and then they start winning a lot.
- 25:17And you're like, okay,
- 25:18now it's been enough.
- 25:19Now I need someone to come in and
- 25:21stop you from doing this.
- 25:26And I think because the boys interrupted
- 25:27all hang out together,
- 25:29we'd lump them together.
- 25:32So they have won four of the last
- 25:36five CrossFit games.
- 25:42Is there going to be a point where
- 25:44now we look at them as a group
- 25:45and say,
- 25:46I want somebody to disrupt this group of
- 25:49four from continuing to win?
- 25:57I think it's all how we look at
- 25:58it from certain perspectives.
- 26:01I'm a huge Dallin Pepper fan.
- 26:03I've picked him to win the games this
- 26:04year.
- 26:05I think that's my pick,
- 26:07and that's who I'm rooting for for this
- 26:09season.
- 26:10I hope that happens.
- 26:12But at some point,
- 26:13I just wonder if the fatigue of that
- 26:16group hits people and they start rooting
- 26:19against them instead of for them.
- 26:22And maybe that won't happen.
- 26:23You have people like Rich Froning who
- 26:25people never got tired of.
- 26:29Never got tired of.
- 26:32You have people like Matt Fraser who
- 26:33people got tired of.
- 26:36People loved his brashness at the
- 26:38beginning.
- 26:39And then they just wanted somebody to
- 26:41compete with him.
- 26:47Ortega says,
- 26:48I've never thought of them as a group.
- 26:49I just see them as dudes with a
- 26:50podcast like cars and comedians.
- 26:55I disagree with you because I think they
- 26:57train together when they can.
- 26:59They go hang out together when they can.
- 27:03And I think they truly are friends outside
- 27:06of the podcast.
- 27:12if you watch behind the scenes there in
- 27:14the warmup areas together, they're doing,
- 27:18I mean,
- 27:18and then three of them are brute athletes.
- 27:20They all are coached by the same people.
- 27:23Justin is different.
- 27:24He's coached by somebody else.
- 27:27So I, I do,
- 27:29I do think there will be a large
- 27:31section of the CrossFit community that
- 27:33look at them as,
- 27:36as a group of four.
- 27:43Mike DeVito,
- 27:44they're the three amigos of CrossFit.
- 27:45I would say the quattro amigos of
- 27:50CrossFit.
- 27:53But the plus side of this is,
- 27:55and if you're a fan of them,
- 27:57I think their friendship,
- 27:59partnership has made them all better.
- 28:05I think all four of them are better
- 28:06athletes because of that friendship
- 28:08relationship.
- 28:16So I am sure it's doing them way
- 28:20more good than bad.
- 28:22I'm just saying there is a natural desire
- 28:25for drama in sports.
- 28:28And I think that any reason to dislike
- 28:31somebody, to root against them,
- 28:32you will find.
- 28:44Wayne says,
- 28:45I was surprised that the other three
- 28:47didn't show up to support James's event
- 28:49this weekend.
- 28:51If you've watched any of their stuff
- 28:53lately, they are so freaking busy.
- 28:57I want to say one of them said
- 28:59they're not even going to be home for
- 29:00like three or four weeks.
- 29:05Like the insanity of their schedules right
- 29:07now with sponsors and stuff they're doing
- 29:12for CrossFit and things like that is pure
- 29:15insanity.
- 29:23Chris Love,
- 29:24the boys interrupted could be like the
- 29:25four horsemen from WCW.
- 29:28Very good analogy.
- 29:31Very good analogy.
- 29:38Mark Phillips,
- 29:38we kind of had this with Olsen Smith
- 29:40Mayer.
- 29:40That would have been a good podcast team,
- 29:42perhaps.
- 29:48Possibly.
- 29:50I don't know if they would be as
- 29:53forthcoming as what these four have been.
- 29:57These four have truly given us a peek
- 29:59into what it's like to be an athlete
- 30:02and what is required of athletes.
- 30:06Way more than I think those three would
- 30:08have led us into.
- 30:18The Ortega,
- 30:19Dallin and Jason were in Austin.
- 30:20Justin is in California,
- 30:22then doing stuff with CrossFit.
- 30:23Yeah,
- 30:23their schedules are like super crazy.
- 30:34I mean,
- 30:36James didn't even go watch his dad at
- 30:39the Masters CrossFit Games because he had
- 30:42a commitment to a friend's wedding.
- 30:46Their schedules are so tight that they
- 30:50have to make difficult decisions
- 30:51sometimes.
- 31:05I'm happy that CrossFit is actually
- 31:07utilizing them.
- 31:09That brings up a great point, Vicky.
- 31:12I am so glad that CrossFit is utilizing
- 31:14them.
- 31:16I just wish CrossFit would do more
- 31:23utilization of things that are going on.
- 31:26You know,
- 31:26we talked about it last night that this
- 31:28week the U.S.
- 31:29government flipped the food pyramid and is
- 31:33waging war on added sugars and processed
- 31:36carbohydrates.
- 31:39There's been nothing posted by CrossFit
- 31:41about that.
- 31:45How can you not take advantage of the
- 31:48media that is out about that right now?
- 31:52The thing you've been fighting for since
- 31:54the inception of this methodology is you
- 31:59got a government agency to admit that it's
- 32:03been right all along and nothing, nothing,
- 32:09nothing on the CrossFit site
- 32:15that I do think that the efforts with
- 32:19the CrossFit media department have been
- 32:22moving in the right direction,
- 32:23but that's a big miss.
- 32:26There it is right there.
- 32:32Okay.
- 32:33So Chattanooga,
- 32:34he said they did post something today,
- 32:37but when was that announced?
- 32:38That was what Tuesday or Wednesday of last
- 32:41week.
- 32:43Tuesday or Wednesday of last week,
- 32:45and it's taken you a week to get
- 32:47something up?
- 32:51It's just awful.
- 32:56Ken Walters,
- 32:57a private equity group before sale doesn't
- 32:59want something possibly political
- 33:01connected to it.
- 33:04politically or there's,
- 33:06there's so much political around the
- 33:09CrossFit and what it is and who,
- 33:11what it stands for.
- 33:13You can't avoid it.
- 33:16So why play dumb?
- 33:20Playing dumb just is,
- 33:22is not the way to, I don't know.
- 33:26I'm,
- 33:34Personally,
- 33:34I just wanted to see a big I
- 33:35told you so banner on their website.
- 33:42Chattanooga agreed.
- 33:43They're not a nimble team on socials and
- 33:45it's unfortunate.
- 33:46And I am sure that what Ken is
- 33:49saying is partly correct,
- 33:51that they are a private equity firm and
- 33:53the levels of approval to get something
- 33:56posted are probably something we cannot
- 33:59understand.
- 34:01I work for government.
- 34:02I work for state government.
- 34:04For me to post something publicly,
- 34:06I have to get eighteen signatures on it
- 34:08before I can do it.
- 34:10It's so stupid.
- 34:13And I'm sure that the private equity firm
- 34:15is doing the same thing to them,
- 34:16handcuffing them in what they can post.
- 34:23But this has been like the North Star
- 34:26of this company forever.
- 34:29to then not even acknowledge that you got
- 34:32one of the biggest wins you could ever
- 34:34get should have been exempted in all of
- 34:40that sign-off shit.
- 34:43All of it.
- 34:49I'm Mike DeVito.
- 34:50This is the HQ staff that did literally
- 34:52nothing with the decision in the courts
- 34:54proving NSCA lied.
- 34:58They collected the settlement money.
- 35:00They did that part.
- 35:01Mike.
- 35:04Vicki agreed.
- 35:05They need to embrace it.
- 35:21Yeah.
- 35:25Everyone went gaga over the new marketing
- 35:27lady at HQ,
- 35:29but she's been AWOL on everything.
- 35:32I wouldn't say AWOL on everything, Jody.
- 35:34They are posting stuff.
- 35:38And this has been kind of my thing
- 35:42for the last couple weeks on the shows
- 35:43is that I do think it's heading in
- 35:46a direction that is positive.
- 35:48Do I think it's fast enough?
- 35:50No.
- 35:51Do I think it is accurate enough?
- 35:55No.
- 35:56Do I think it's getting the job done
- 35:58fully?
- 35:59No.
- 36:00I do think it's missing parts.
- 36:02I do think it can be tweaked in
- 36:03a better way.
- 36:06But they're like in the last week after
- 36:11I bitched about no marketing for the open
- 36:14in the last week,
- 36:15they've been blowing up socials with the
- 36:17open stuff.
- 36:21Um,
- 36:21so they are doing stuff and they are
- 36:23creating stuff.
- 36:23It's just taking more time than I would
- 36:26like.
- 36:27And it's not necessarily exactly what I
- 36:28would want it to be.
- 36:40Vicky sums it up better than I did
- 36:41a better than it was not as good
- 36:43as it could be.
- 36:47Yeah.
- 36:51Just another example,
- 36:52the buyer's having no clue what CrossFit
- 36:54is.
- 37:01Chattanoofy,
- 37:02there's also a post on Instagram about a
- 37:06newborn only being comforted by being held
- 37:09while doing air squats because the mom did
- 37:11CrossFit through her pregnancy.
- 37:17I'm okay with that stuff being out there,
- 37:19but there's also important stuff that's
- 37:21being missed.
- 37:28I am sure that is not the case,
- 37:30Ken Walters.
- 37:31I am sure.
- 37:31I'm sure it was just timing.
- 37:41This isn't the CrossFit of old where it
- 37:42was owned by one person.
- 37:44I know.
- 37:44And that's why I'm saying, Ortega,
- 37:46that like I work for government,
- 37:48which is a big entity and everything is
- 37:50political that we talk about.
- 37:52Everything takes eighteen levels of
- 37:54approval.
- 37:55And I'm sure the board of directors at
- 37:57CrossFit want the same thing that I deal
- 37:59with every day.
- 38:06Chattanooga Wasted is a big pop culture
- 38:08page.
- 38:09I'm saying CrossFit HQ should have
- 38:11reshared it.
- 38:14That's the stuff that really kind of gets
- 38:16me.
- 38:18And I think Hiller's brought it up in
- 38:19the past.
- 38:20They want to recreate,
- 38:22like the Tyson Bajent thing when he went
- 38:25to his press conference talking about
- 38:28CrossFit.
- 38:30About when he retires from the NFL,
- 38:32he wants to be a CrossFit coach and
- 38:34become jacked.
- 38:37They went and they scheduled a meeting
- 38:39with them.
- 38:40They scheduled a shoot.
- 38:41They did all this stuff.
- 38:43It took like three months to get it
- 38:44out.
- 38:45They could have just reshared that video.
- 38:48And they never did.
- 38:49They never did.
- 38:50Could have just reshared this.
- 38:54Tagged it with a little phrase,
- 38:56reshared it.
- 38:59And they don't.
- 38:59They don't.
- 39:00They waste their time trying to polish
- 39:04everything up.
- 39:07And when it could just be a simple
- 39:09reshare.
- 39:15When that came out,
- 39:16they should have just shared the clip of
- 39:20saying,
- 39:21we are waging war on processed sugar and
- 39:25on new added sugar and processed
- 39:27carbohydrates.
- 39:28Just that clip.
- 39:30Post it.
- 39:31Don't need to add anything to it.
- 39:33Don't need to polish it.
- 39:35Just post that clip of those eight words
- 39:40or whatever it is.
- 39:41We are waging war against added sugar and
- 39:44processed carbohydrates.
- 39:46That's it.
- 39:48Eight seconds.
- 39:52That's it.
- 39:59uh vicky asks is it me or does
- 40:01it feel does it sometimes feel like there
- 40:03are two different trains riding on the
- 40:04same track when it comes to crossfit
- 40:06socials uh i chattanooga agrees with you
- 40:16um uh vicky says social media sometimes
- 40:22feels bipolar it doesn't feel like things
- 40:24are being stated from one entity
- 40:27Well,
- 40:27I do think that there's a sports side.
- 40:30There is a training and methodology side
- 40:35that don't always go hand in hand,
- 40:38but they should be at least like on
- 40:40parallel tracks.
- 40:49I think that I hear what you're saying
- 40:53about the political thing.
- 40:55But the nutrition aspect of this,
- 40:57you have been fighting as an entity for
- 41:01twenty five years.
- 41:04And you won.
- 41:05You got a win that nobody ever thought
- 41:08would happen.
- 41:12Just share it.
- 41:18It's not political.
- 41:19It's just something that happened that
- 41:21agrees with what you have posted your
- 41:25theory of nutrition to be.
- 41:32You know what?
- 41:32It doesn't matter what you post, Andrew.
- 41:34You're going to piss somebody off
- 41:35regardless.
- 41:38You can put out the most benign post
- 41:40ever and it is going to piss somebody
- 41:42off.
- 41:43So fear of pissing people off is a
- 41:46very bad way to go about things.
- 41:50If you're worried about pissing people
- 41:51off, you're going to speak to no one.
- 41:58You say it was Greg fighting,
- 41:59not the current owners,
- 42:00but they are still posting.
- 42:03They made shirts just at last year's games
- 42:05about the meat and veggies,
- 42:08and it's on a shirt saying,
- 42:09eat meat and vegetables.
- 42:11They still post the fitness in a hundred
- 42:14words,
- 42:15which starts with the nutrition piece.
- 42:18So you can say it was Greg,
- 42:19but they are standing by it in other
- 42:21ways.
- 42:22Why wouldn't you take this win?
- 42:26That would be the biggest marketing ploy
- 42:28ever.
- 42:29We've had the answer for twenty five
- 42:30years.
- 42:31People are finally following suit.
- 42:34Come check it out at our box.
- 42:48I can rant all I want,
- 42:49but that's the nature of business.
- 42:53Well,
- 42:54I rant because that's why I do a
- 42:55podcast.
- 42:57And yes,
- 42:58there are a lot of companies that fail.
- 43:01But there are also a lot of companies
- 43:02that don't.
- 43:05And we've talked about this in the past.
- 43:06If you don't have a North Star or
- 43:09you don't have that thing to fight for,
- 43:13you're not going to matter.
- 43:16You're not going to matter.
- 43:17Nobody's going to give a shit what you
- 43:19have to say if you stand for nothing.
- 43:25If you want to stand by the affiliates
- 43:27and you want to give them the marketing
- 43:30they deserve being a part of your
- 43:32affiliate system,
- 43:33you need to stand for something.
- 43:35And the thing you have stood for for
- 43:38twenty five years was agreed to by a
- 43:41government agency.
- 43:45And if there was any time at all
- 43:47where you were going to then stand for
- 43:51something,
- 43:52you could have shared that post.
- 43:55You didn't make the post.
- 43:57You just shared the post.
- 44:00And if you piss off somebody,
- 44:02so be it.
- 44:03But there are a ton of people out
- 44:04there looking for answers.
- 44:06And those answers came in that statement.
- 44:10And how to get those answers every day
- 44:13is to go to an affiliate and learn
- 44:15more.
- 44:17And there it was.
- 44:18It was all out there for you.
- 44:20And you let it go by.
- 44:24Or you waited a week for it to
- 44:25go by.
- 44:28I still haven't seen what they put out
- 44:29today.
- 44:30I'll have to go look for it.
- 44:32But again, they just waited too damn long.
- 44:46Vicky says exactly.
- 44:47Scott PE is very scared of pissing people
- 44:48off instead of just embracing the history
- 44:51and methodology and letting that story
- 44:52ring true.
- 44:56And I'll just end it with,
- 44:58if you don't stand for anything,
- 45:01nobody's going to give a shit.
- 45:13Larry says, Andrew,
- 45:14after almost every podcast,
- 45:16I think I just need to stop commenting,
- 45:18but I'm like,
- 45:19someone needs to say this after,
- 45:21after I'm like, Larry, no one cares.
- 45:23Just be quiet.
- 45:24Listen, Larry.
- 45:27You motivated this podcast today about
- 45:33having rivalries and wanting to root
- 45:35against people because of a comment you
- 45:37made last night.
- 45:38Don't think that it doesn't make an
- 45:39impact.
- 45:40It made an impact.
- 45:41I literally was laying in bed last night
- 45:43like,
- 45:43that's what I need to do the show
- 45:45on.
- 45:45I need to do it on that.
- 45:47Of course,
- 45:48there was the handshake that kind of added
- 45:50to that and the whole Pat Vellner
- 45:53discussion.
- 45:54But your comments, actually,
- 45:56I listen to them all.
- 45:58And I think about them in the evening.
- 46:00And I think about them when I'm creating
- 46:01these shows and coming up with topics for
- 46:03us to talk about.
- 46:05So never,
- 46:05ever feel like nobody cares or nobody's
- 46:08listening.
- 46:09You inspired what we did today on this
