• Whew, all right, so Andrew, are you recording with Audio Hijack? Yes, I am. Okay. And Martin, are you recording with Quick time crickets. Crickets, crickets, crickets. No quick time recording because Dr. Martin is not here today. And I can say Dr. Martin infinite numbers of times today because he's not here and he has to listen to it later. Martin is not here, it is Andrew and myself for episode 172. And we're gonna start is he still committed to the show? Do you think or do you think he's now gotten a bit too big for big for his boots? You know, uh we we're just the minions now. He's probably on tour would be my guess. He's probably doing like a book signing tour if I had to take a guess. I think that's what you Yeah, yeah. He's bringing it around, but he can't print it out because he doesn't have a printer. So he's just bringing digital PDFs around that people have to load up on their iPads and then he'll sign the iPad copy. That's how that's gonna go. Oh Martin. He must love when he's gone. He must just dread knowing what he's gonna have to endure when he comes back. This is what happens, it's a it's a it's a three person podcast and if one of the triumbra is missing, we have to go on the attack. The stool falls over. A stool has three legs, and when it has two legs, right on the floor. Right on the floor, probably where it belongs. Uh well, we're gonna do I don't know if we've ever done this before. I had a call out for Q and A So both the questions and the answers. And I don't know if we' dveone have we done that before? Ask the audience QA. No, I don't think we have. I don't recall as I didn't think so either. Um obviously people can hmm Yeah, I was gonna say good workshop beyond that because I had no idea you were gonna do this. I just happened to see a post on Mastodon where you asked for QA. I was like, Oh, I didn't realize this was on the agenda, but okay. Let's run with it. I just figured people must have questions, right? Surely after six years, there's gotta be a lot of loose ends that need tying up. So why not ask? So I took like a handful of them to kind of s throw in here today, and maybe we'll do more of them kind of in future episodes. I welcome all questions. I don't know if we can guarantee answers. But look at the Yeah it may be more Q than A. It may be more A than Q. We don't know. It's somewhere in the middle of Qs and A's. We we don't we've never guaranteed a one to one Q to A. We could do it like Jeopardy. Like they are they do the answer and then we provide the That's true. You guessed the that feels like a lot of work though. So I think we're just gonna go standard Q then A for now and we'll see. So I'm gonna start with I put I think I put five in here just to get some of them off the off the sheet. So first question and no to be clear this is not unannounced trivia corner. Don't get excited. These are gonna have actual answers that are read live on the show. Slice of pizza, fold or not. What's your thought on that? Prefer not to fold. If I can possibly get away with it, I want a flat piece of pizza. Yeah. Yep. Even as you get towards the end where it's real wide and then you kinda have to do like a corn on the cob thing going back and forth. Yeah, yeah, no, it's a typewriter. Yep, yep. I I like it. I like keeping it flat. Unless it's the structural integrity of the pizza is at risk. If it's so thin that um yeah, it's just flopping all over the place, I will fold it. But I um there's a level of disappointment attached to that. Because then I might as well have ordered what what are they are those folded pieces called? Um the name is that a calzone? That's the one. Yeah. But in Australia we say calzone. Calzone. Calzone. You don't want a deconstructed calzone. No. Okay. I mean I'll folding, I'll just order one of those, but I'd never order one of those. Order a pizza. Which is flat. I want I want my pizza pre folded if it's gonna be folded. Okay. That's fair. I don't care. I'll eat it folded, I'll eat it not folded as long as it's tasty pizza. Don't really care. Either way. Oh no. This was a two-part question. And I'm terrified to ask the second part. Well, actually, this is perfect because the third person that's not here would have no answer. So it's actually fine. So pizza folded or not, also, you know, related to that, wondering about task management systems, if any. I'm sure it's been discussed. Never. I don't think we've ever talked about task management those questions were from uh frend of the show gabs with a z. Well I already know your answer but I'll I'll let you go ahead. Gabs has been with us since the start so he's he's the OG, the unk of the show. It's probably good for him that he doesn't remember if this has been talked about, because if he did remember, he probably would have stopped listening years ago. Well well I'm sure what I'm about to say will probably prompt a memory or two. I continue to use Omnifocus as my task management system. Since day day one of this, I don't think you've ever used anything else. No, like I I have occasionally dabbled um in other just checking checking out the the landscape, if you if you will, but nothing can get me away from me focused. I just know it so well now. It's intrinsic to how I operate. And so it continues to do the job. I actually I I recently tried an app called Finalist and I stuffed up. I did the th seven day trial and I forgot to cancel it. So now I've got it for a year. Wow, that is a that's a heavy price to pay. Oh, you missed your eighth day. How about three hundred and sixty-five more? Yeah. Now they got my fifty bucks, right? So I'm like, damn it. Um and it's a slow app. It's it it's not good. Well it's good, it's good, it's good for the right kind of person, but I'm not the right kind of person. And when you load I say it's slow app, like when I load it on my phone, the animations are sluggish and everything. Like it just feels like it's got a lot of bugginess to it. Um it sounds like a PSA that if you're gonna sign up for a trial, sign up for the monthly version of the trial and not the yearly. Not the yearly. And what I will say as well, I want to give another little shout out. I'm still using Omnifocus. Uh you may be aware that I've recently dabbled in various um note taking apps. No, not at all. Yeah. Well, after an intensive trial I'm back to obsidian as my work based notes. Yep. Couldn't that not nothing could beat it. Um and within Obsidian I'm using a plugin that it takes tasks written into Obsidian with the little markdown task format and you you run it and it sucks it out of obs out of obsidian and puts it into omnifocus. And that is done by he's either friend of the show or friend of the blog or friend on a social network somewhere. Friend of a friend. Yeah. Jim Mitchell. He wrote that. Okay. I like Jim. I like Jim. He does good work. He's a friendly guy. So I'm glad you're back on Obsidian. There we go. Omnifocus. Surprising absolutely no one. Jason, next. Oh, I guess I have to answer the question too. I know your answer. I could just say that well actually I d now you've been away from Apple Do you? You've been away from Apple stuff for a while, so I would have said things, but now you've been you're back on Apple, so maybe things as maybe come back. So I thought I knew your answer, but maybe I don't. It's not things. Ooh. It is reminders. Oh, jeez. Really? You're like Martin. I had to I had to like spiritually be Martin here for something, you know, just to bring him into the fold. Yeah, it's um it does everything I needed to do. I'm not doing, you know, big boy work anymore. I don't need projects and and defer dates. I don't need any of that crap. I just need to be like, hey, g don't forget to to bring this thing upstairs from the basement. Like that's all I need. How long for the day that I don't need project management stuff? God. The day of my retirement and I switched to the big It'll be a Everything else is just overcomplicating things and I'm spending more time project managing than just doing crap. So yeah, it works for that. Okay. Um this this next one is fortunate or unfortunate for Martin, because the question is, taking into account absences, which host has clocked the most broadcast hours on the pod? And this is from NoSage N-O-S-A-J. Read it backwards. Oh my oh, this is not for me. Jason backwards? Oh, it's like my alter ego. Yeah.. Weird He's in the same score as well. Never noticed that. Well, I did a little math. Yeah, how did you work this out? So including the episode we're recording right now, this is 176. And you're like, wait, but this is episode 172. How could it be 176? Well, if you have been around for any of the six years here, you will know that we do things a little differently from time to time. So we may have an episode entitled something like 98A and then 982 TW0. Sometimes things get a little crazy. So we've had 176, including this one. And from from my uh mathing skills here. Uh the the tally is this. Third place is Martin, who is coincidentally not here, with 168 out of 176 for a ninety-five point five percent uh rating of of attendance. He's not that committed, is he? That's not five nines from where I'm standing. Then we have Andrew in second place, with one seventy two out of one seventy six for a ninety seven point seven. Pretty good. Pretty good. Getting closer to that five nines. I hope you counted my Xmouth episode where I called in. I dialed in the phone line that someone appeared in any form. Okay, okay. Good. It's not bad. And then seven. I'm just barely ahead of you with one seventy three out of 176 for a ninety-eight point three. So two out of the three of them are pretty good. You can see who's carrying the load. One of them's not. I'd like to see that 95 come up, I'll be honest. He's he says he's committed to the show. He says all the right things, doesn't he? But as I say the proof Where's the proof? In the spreadsheet. What yeah. I was gonna go with pudding, but spreadsheet, yeah. Oh., okay Well I was just trying to speak your language, you know. Oh okay, okay, thank you. So Martin, do better. Yeah, from a depreciation standpoint, he's costing us like probably ninety five point five cents a week would be my guess. Skip that up, Martin. We'll work on that. Consider this your performance review for uh twenty twenty six. Well we're due for one of those as well, aren't we? We are, yeah. We haven't had those in a while. No, and that is strictly against the bylaws, so we've got we've got some work ahead of us. Uh next question. What actually made the three of you decide to do a podcast, there had to have been a time you didn't know each other. And that was from Jim. So I'm not sure. I mean there's definitely a time we didn't know each other, for sure. That was before this. I guess. Yeah. What made us decide to do a podcast? I think we realized that what did the world need? It needed another show with white guys talking to each other. Because there was there there was a shortage. There was a shortage, definitely. I don't uh what that is So this this would be one that we may have a follow-up answer from Martin because he probably has like a very long answer of exactly like chronologically by time and date what happened to cause this to happen. If you listen to episode one or zero I guess, I feel like that probably says what why this is happening, right? Would that have like an origin story in it? Possibly. Hard to remember. I'm gonna have to defer to Martin on that. I remember seeing you online though. Well not see like reading you online, if you wish. Yeah. And thinking you were a kind of cool dude. I I thought that without knowing you. Just seem you seem like you're kind of fooled em again. I know. You really seem really cool. You got catfished. You were like one of those guys that's like, oh man, I wish I knew that guy in real life. 'Cause he looks like he's I'm into what he's doing. He's and he looks cool. And yeah. We all know. Yeah. And now here we are. You're like now you're trapped. And you probably didn't know me at all. So like I feel I certainly felt like the um the inferior one. I I do remember I do recall both of you existing like in the same kind of conversations and stuff. I didn't at all know that you both were from Australia, I don't think. Okay. I think one of you probably said like in your bio or something that you were from I don't know, like I'm from WA or whatever. And but I don't know. Six years ago my Australian knowledge was like zero. Like kangaroos and Paul Hogan. Uh-huh. That was basically it. Crocodile Dundee. That was my my baseline of Australia was crocodile dundee. That was it. And then now I've got like three or four more things in the past six years. So I feel like I'm I'm I'm growing as a as a person. I think I think it was Martin. I think Martin was probably the guy that actually brought us together. I think he was the I think so. Yeah. 'Cause I don't think I was doing anything podcast related at the time. You I think were doing something now? Yeah. I tried to do my so my own one, I think. Keep practicing. Were you doing that one at the time, maybe? Yeah. That could be. And I don't know. He was doing he was was the was he doing the lounge thing? Lounge room and I, yeah. Yeah, okay. So th all right, that makes sense. So we were all kind of maybe doing something I don't th maybe I was maybe I was on something else. I don't know. Now you would have had to have anything you would never have done a podcast. Yeah, I d exa yeah, that's true. That's a good point. Yeah, that is the worst the worst job ever. I don't know how people do this. Like they must have other people do it, right? They must offload it. Are there people that you can hire for that? There must be. I think so. I mean, that just go around and edit shows. If I didn't have Ferrari, I wouldn't do it. If I had to use a desktop app, I wouldn't edit this show. I tried that and I failed. Remember remember Hindenburg? Oh what? Who could forget? The Hindenburg And it was right in the name of the app of how that went. So well Jim, I uh thank you for the question. I think you got a very comprehensive answer there, really.. Yeah I don't know if it if there could be any more information in there. Do your own research, Jim. Next question from Jamallo? J O M A L O Jamalo? Is that how you'd say that? Why do you say Jumalo? Jumalo. Okay. Well one of those. Uh question is unannounced trivia corner results question mark. Nope. Next question. Next question. Hang on. This is this is a URL. This is not a question. It's not. I put a URL in there apparently. Hang on, let me click it. So the next question is https colon slash slash chat dot the page you requested could not be found. Oh, okay. Well, we will move that one to next time. Hang on, I'll I'm continuing to research. And this has been QA corner. What happened to that you are that's weird. I don't know. I'm a little bit concerned now though that you're saying that something from the forum is four oh four rang. Is the forum down? Oh no. The forum itself is out. Weird. Huh. Let me see. Well do do Oh no. It comes up for me. Does it? Yeah. Let me try again. Doesn't for me. Alright, we'll you probably it's on you. You gotta read it. Is it is it social media? Is it blocked by the Australian government? Is that what's going on here? Could pay. Could pay. All right. Let's let's undermine the machinery. So you just read it out verbally. This is a very this is a really long question. It's from David H. Everybody knows David H. In the US, there are stickers slathered all over ladders. And I'll extend this question a little bit and and modify it slightly. Basically everything you buy has some kind of sticker on it, whether it be a safety sticker or an information sticker, and to not put words in his mouth, they're all a absolute pain in the ass to get off and they always leave crappy residue. And do they do that in Australia? Because they do it here on frickin' everything. And I know for me, I A, I can't I absolutely cannot stand it. But I have found that I will now buy or not buy a product based on whether or not that sticker will come off well or not. Do you guys have this issue? Do you have this sticker pandemic issue where they just stick stupid stickers on everything? No, I can't say I've noticed it. Um we tend to have a lot of times there'll be a tag. There might be a tag with one of those little um plastic tie? Yeah, but you know the really cheap retail zip tie kind of things where it's just like plastic loop. Yeah. And you just rip 'em off. Uh a little plastic papery sort of thing hanging around it. Don't really know I I mean I know sti ladders, you say ladders, I think they will have a sticker or something that says, you know, climb this side or something like that. But that's more like a user guide than a ugly window. If you use this ladder you could die just to like absolve all themselves of all blame. Yeah. Yeah. But I'm not noticing no, I can't say I've noticed you know a a lot of strippers on stuff. Everywhere. Just stickers on everything. Get like a plastic bin, giant sticker on the side. Get a shovel, massive sticker all over the shovel. And you can't get it off. This is your this is the United States and it's litigious nature. I think it is. Yeah. think we're still a little bit more leaning towards don't be a dickhead. You know, like just we can we can stand to have some more of that. Yeah. Like if you do something stupid, that's on you. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It's like like there's here here's a brick. Like don't eat this brick. Do you really need a a warning to not eat a brick? Like is that is that where we're at? Okay. Yeah. Yeah. So no, I I think we're doing I think we're doing better in this regard. I think I I think and I think the rest of the world probably is too. I think this is a uniquely American problem. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that. Yeah. Okay. Well I m may s may s sticker again never reach your shores because it is just an absolute nightmare. Especially if they're cheap ones that don't like yeah, you have to get like then you have to get eucalyptus oil or something to try and oh you wouldn't even have that. You wouldn't have eucalyptus oil to get stuff off stick of residue. No. We just use citrus throwers. Ah okay. Do you have I don't know? Do you have for sticker like goop remover? Um we have Is it citrus? A few different things. There's there's like an orange one that's called like goo off or something, and then there's one called like undo which is a like kind of a comes in like a plastic bottle with like a little scrapie thing attached to it so you can kind of like squirt it on there and and scrape it off. That stuff works great. Um, but I'd rather not have to have it. Yeah. No, I gotta say, like if you don't if you don't have eucalyptus oil in your house, I I highly recommend you get some. It's good for getting rid of goop. And um also there's we have eucalyptus um laundry detergent based stuff, great for wool. Yeah. If you if you know I g of course we have a lot of eucalyptus trees, so maybe that helps. I think I think we may have not quite enough of those around to be making so many things out of. I think you probably have a couple a couple more in the room. Probably a few more. Smells beautiful. Love the smell you can do. I bet it does. So fresh. Love it. It feels natural. Hmm. And there's a particular time of the year where you can walk around Perth and there's um it's a lemon scented eucalyptus trees. And oh my goodness. It's so nice. You just smell it in the air. Lemon scented. Yeah. Wow. Lemon gum sort of trees. And it is a combination of lemon and eucalyptus, just wafting trees and is magnificent. Do they make detergent out of that? Because that sounds like a lovely smell. It does. I don't know. It seems to be typically it's just the purely eucalyptus you get. I don't know how these trees are making because they're not lemon trees. They're it's not it's just lemon scented. I don't know what's going on. These trees are who could know? Special. That must confuse the hell out of the koalas, because they're like, where's the lemons? There's nothing we were promised lemons. Just chowing down. I wonder if it tastes lemony. We should try one. There's not a sticker on there telling you not to, so you should just chow right into that thing. Well if you make if you make billy tea, if you get traditional and make billy tea, you put a few eucalyptus leaves in that. And then you got a what now? This is something you've never talked about. A what? A Billy T? Billy tea. What's that? It's like bush tea. Bush tea. Wow. Okay. It's like m where if you would you want to make about a cup of tea and you're camping. Yeah. Uh huh. And traditionally you would have an open fire. Sure. And you have you have a little like teapot situation. So you pour water into it. You may it's bat and you know you may or may not have a lid on it. You put tea in the tea in the pot and then you put a couple of eucalyptus leaves into the pot as well to give it some Okay. And then the best thing about Billy Tea is at the end it's a bit of a presentation art as well because stir it up to like sep separate the tea leaves. You you pick up off the fire and then you gotta whooz it around. You do it you woo it in like 360 loop. WHOJ it. Yeah. Is that clockwise or counterclockwise? You kind of get in your arm and go, woo, woo, woo. Oh that way. Yeahah,, ye yeah. So it's going in big circles. It's doing like a 360 degree circle loop. With with boiling hot water in a pot, you're spinning that around full, full bore. Okay. And then you pour it into a cup. Because the centrifugal force. See? It's not spilling out because of the centrifugal force. We would do that, but we have a sticker on our pots that says do not woo. So we're not allowed to. There you go, Billy C. Okay. Well look at that. We got we got an extra bonus out of our last question of QA corner, so that's lovely. You never know where this stuff's gonna take us. You just don't know. That's what makes it special. No. Half the time, no, more than half the time. 95.5% of the time, we don't have any idea. We should probably should make more of the fact that this is just an improv show. It is a little bit, yeah, improvisational. Do you want to skip ahead, being that we don't know where we're going, to to your uh your trial, different trial, not your year-long trial of the app you're never gonna use, but a different trial of something you're actually using. I've been having a little bit of a um uh uh a recalibration of my needs and my wants. That's good. That's a healthy thing to do. With regards to blogging. Yeah. I've had a blog forever. Absolutely forever. Um and I was even thinking recently, why do I even still have a blog? Like do I really need it? It's a different internet now. Is there is it really appropriate that I continue to have my thoughts and ideas pumped out for the world to see? Or is it just an attack vector that is unnecessary. Because the internet is not a friendly place anymore, is it? By and large, no. There are there are pockets. Yeah. And that's that pocket thing of trying to find the pockets of nice people. Where do those nice people exist? Um and also what is the technology stack that I'm going to use? So I've realized that I kinda still want to have a place where I can chuck stuff up. And I was my initial thinking was I could chuck this stuff up and I will find a way to export all my old stuff and bring it into my new stuff. Yeah. But then at the same time it's like the ship of thesis. Am I still the same person? I I don't know, do I want all that stuff hanging around? You know, I've changed and developed over the years of maybe I just start afresh. So I started my journey thinking about new blog hosts in terms of what can where can I how can I get all my old stuff into the new thing? And as I'm thinking more on it, I'm like, maybe I just start the new thing. Well, you could you can always import old stuff. Hmm. Like you could do this one for two years and then decide you want to bring in the old stuff. Like it doesn't really you don't have to you don't have to build on the old stuff as a foundation, I guess, right? So just start. So yeah, so I have. I have just started. I'm still in the trial mode. I haven't really paid the money yet. But I'm trial. Well on day eight you'll have a year's worth, so Clearly I'm good for it. People know I'm willing, you know, they can get my money. Um so I'm I've been using Pika Pika blog and it's it's very nice 'cause it's very simple. Like it's Is it Pika? They they've got a fact on their page about this and it seems like they say Pikachu Pika. But even they say they're not sure if they're saying it right. So Okay, perfect. So no one knows, so you can kinda call it whatever you want. So yeah, so I'm I'm trialing Pika Books. You can get to it at I've got to get the shout-out right. I haven't done a URL redirect yet. Oh, okay. So it's not it's not real yet. It's not still real. Yeah. Okay. So it's just it's this canyon dot pika.page. So I feel like this is sort of a Pika transition into the 'cause I use Pika pods for my actual budget. And now I've got Pika blog. So I feel like anything that's those are different, right they are too entirely different they just happen to both be called pika's that's funny are you running pika on pika pods no no peak i'm running pika man wouldn't that be a wouldn't that be something. That would be an inception moment. Pika all the way down. What's your stack, Pika? So I've written two blogs. Wait, why is it six point oh? What happened to one through five? Well, I I started off calling this my first couple of days I had it called Canyon Blog four point oh, but then I did a little self-order and I reckon I'm up to about six. 'Cause I reckon it's Oh wow blogger? Okay. W uh movable type. Okay. WordPress Sure. Blot. Right. Microblog. Yeah. And now Pika. Pika. Okay, six point oh. Wow. Nice. Okay. So yeah. So I've got two posts. One of them I wrote on a mobile on my phone. On the bus. Oh. This morning I wrote one on my iPad. Look at you, you're all over the place. I know. It's like this is the new world and uh and it's all in browser. So I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing. Typically for me that would be a bad thing. But I'm just trying to embrace something new and simple. And apparently they do support um that micro pub endpoint stuff. So you could use IA writer or something if you wanted to, but I haven't yet experimented with that. Yeah. Yeah, I don't think I don't think in the browser is necessarily bad. The only thing that uh that would freak me out is if I'm writing something and then that browser decides to go away. And now I've lost everything I wrote. But like the act of just publishing in the browser, I don't think I would really care. Yeah. I did the ultimate test, so I cop this is how I like to know whether the an editor is any good or not. This is like my litmus test. I copy I copy a URL and then I go to the editor and I highlight the text that I want to do. Oh, does it paste as a markdown link? And then I paste. And I'm like, does it just blow away my text or does it s create a smart link? And it did. It created a link and left my text in place. I was like, okay, good edit. I was gonna say, g given that there are now two posts, it must actually do it correctly, because you would never have gotten to post two. Exactly right. That was post one where I did that. I was like, I'm gonna test this thing. That's the same test that I did with the the HEC MD thing was does it paste the link correctly? Because if it doesn't, this account is deleted immediately. Which is necessary. Well, there's a plugin in Obsidian that let that lets you do that. I don't know if it just does that by default now, but when I first started using it years ago, it didn't do that. And it was like, oh no, no, no. This is no. But then there was a plug-in that just made it do that. I was like, okay, all right, fine. We're good. We're good. I'll continue on with my trial. But okay, so you're you're a peek slash pika guy now. So I'm Pika Guy, yeah. Now I don't have yet have any pages. So I can't even I don't have a slash guy page on my Pika so, I I can't say'm a pika guy, I'm a pika. Oh, that's true. I did just my my micro.blog account actually just renewed for another year, like a week ago. So I'm I've you're really good at buying things for a year that you don't actually want. So my timing is a little off. So I don't know what to do about that. I mean there's always refunds, so I think that that's not a problem. I probably wouldn't bother. Oh my gosh. Well, there you go. Pika slash if he had a guy page, he would be a Pika guy. Maybe. Maybe we'll see. Yep. What is this like day four? Yeah, and I I'm thinking so yeah, day four day four, yeah, good call. Um I think I've got a spare URL. So so my my micro.blog is at canyon.blog, but I have I have canyon.me just hanging around, not really doing anything. Okay. That used to be my blot blog URL. It could be your Pika blog. So I'm thinking it's my it that's probably what I'm gonna use. Canyon.pica. No cany,on.me. Oh. Canyon.me slash guy. Slash Pika. Header Pika. Yeah. Here we go. Okay, well let's see. So we're gonna start the we have today and then in two weeks we will have another show and we'll see is Pika still around? Or have we moved to who knows what else? Well we can pretty much guarantee you will have paid for a year of it by the next show, but we just don't know if you'll actually be using it or not. turned here. I think I'm I think we just took the table and like shifted it one notch where I went to you, Martin went to me 'cause I got I've reminders and then just throwing money around like it like it's nobody's business is not moved over to you. Yeah, yeah. So Awesome. Well that's probably that's gonna that's gonna s segue as nicely into another topic that is on our run sheet but not in the order that we planned it. Um yeah do you want to go up to that one next or do you want to do app corner rapid fire? No, I want to ask you about I want to ask you about whether you spent money over the last few days with the latest Apple show. With the surprise and shine. What's that got to what does that even mean? Like rise and shine I get is a morning thing. But I having I only watched it last night, I didn't see any surprise and shine in this show. I don't know what the title I mean I I don't do the titles ever really mean anything. Just something in the market. It's just like we need a fun thing to call it, so let's just call it whatever. Um yeah, I don't know. I don't know. Every time there's a new name, I think people like go crazy trying to you know, read the tea leaves on it. It's like it's just words. Not the tea leaves are just guns. Whoosh. They're doing a whoosh, exactly. Um but yeah, if you're wondering about pre-ordering, um, I did pre-order the new Yoto player. Oh, okay. I didn't see them talk about that, but it's it's good that you pre-ordered that was one of the that was the one more thing was the Yoto, the new Yoto Mini. So that's gonna be coming out pretty good. The storage device is very handy for archiving. Well, they couldn't afford uh uh SSDs or RAM for any of the other ones, so they've just moved everything to Yoto cards now. So now it's like you pick an iPad, you pick how many Yoto cards it can have and We'll leave that to Martin for the full review because, I'm sure that he'll probably have one soon. Um, but no, for surprise and shine, uh I have not ordered anything thus far. You really have turned a leaf. You're not thus far. Thus far. Well I looked that I I mean I've decided well and truly that my iPhone fifteen Pro can go another year. And that will get the depreciation down into a uh The battery is starting to really suffer, but I reckon it's a percentage. I think it's still a eighty four or something. Okay. It''ss it it''ss still where it saying a always is above the eighty percent mark where like it will get replaced. Yeah. So I'm I'll just nurse it through. I've still got my old little mag safe backpack battery unit. Oh yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's it's enough. It's fine. And it's still in flawless except for that one tiny, tiny nick on the screen. Um it's still in good nick. Yeah. The can can we do a slight side tangent rant? The the the the battery thing, this just this has been picking at me lately. Um every time people are talking about phones, it's always like all day battery life. It's gotta it's not it doesn't last through the entire day. I may be way outside of the norm, but are all of these people away from any possible way to plug in a phone for even ten or fifteen minutes for it for thirty-six hours at a time? Or is this just a stubbornness thing that they don't want to plug it in? What do you what's your thought on this? I think it's a laziness thing. It's like I I I charge it at night by my bed and I never want it to get near electricity at any other time. Yeah. Okay. All right. I uh that's fine if that's if that's the thing. But like I throughout the day I'm like I'm at my desk now. I could plug it in for ten, fifteen minutes even's gonna give you like thirty or forty percent. Well, you know what you could do as well, Jason? You if you want it to last all day, use it less. Use it less. That's it really Is it really important to see those latest Instagram reels? Like maybe you could just not. Yeah. I also think it's funny that there's always it's kind of the same demographic of it's like a circle Venn diagram of people that don't want to charge it but are super pissed when it doesn't have ultra fast charging. Like it's it's it's super fast, but like if you're not gonna charge it anyway, then who cares? Yeah. Yeah. Anyway, surprise and shine So I mean and I guess the big thing is the well, is the big thing John Turnus running the show or is the big thing the the iPhone duo? I think the duo's the big thing, the the real world does not give a shit about John. Like not that he's a bad guy, but real people don't care. He looks like a cartoon character. He's got such a strong jaw. Oh, inter I didn't hmm. I didn't study it that well. And I really want his sneakers. In fact I want the sneakers that all the Apple guys they all wear the same sneakers, all the Apple Guys. Mm-hmm. Yeah. It's the kind of those navy blue with the white It's a a volume volume discount. They look they look good. I wish I could find them. Yeah. No, they're Apple sneakers. Mm. They're designed in California. Manufactured in China. Um yeah, sorry, I distracted you with sneakers. Uh and Turnus's strong jaw. Ye um yes, it's so the duo. Yeah, the duo is the big one. Um which I think looks incredible. Would you buy it? Yeah. Yeah, I would. Yeah. I I I think people know I'm a folding phone person and I haven't actually used one, obviously, but from what I've seen it feels as though a lot of the what is it? Like I guess paper cuts of other folding phones, so obvious all the Android ones, feel like they have been at least thought about or thought through and and resolved to the best of their ability. Um, I yeah, like I think the size is great. Uh pencil support, that's awesome on both screens. That's super cool. Um, I can't get over that damn animation. Like I know that has nothing to do with anything, but the th the just the thoughtfulness and the I think, you know, that we always talk about like the whimsy that feels like it's there, you know. I don't it's not oh it's back baby, like whatever, it's still the same company, but like just that that was just so thought through and unnecessary. Comelyplet unnecessary. Yep. But beautifully wonderful and nice to see. I think I was really cool. So yeah. Yeah. And I feel like I would just do that all day. Just whoop, whoop, whoop, whoop. Well, that's why you need all day battery life. Yeah, because you're looking at that damn animation all day. Uh um, I guess the the one interesting thing from that, you know, not that I don't know, we don't usually go on about this stuff for too long, but the removal of face ID in favor of touch ID. I thought was interesting. Kind of shifting back. The island got smaller. The now we don't have the all the sensors and crap, which I'll be interested to see what people make of that. Because I know a lot of people really hated face ID and wanted touch ID back. And I guess it's still on iPads. But yeah, kinda interesting. Yeah, pretty much everything except my Mac has face ID now. I kind of get annoyed by touch ID on the Mac because I feel like I have to be too to aim too carefully. Well touch ID kind of became like the cheap version implementation. Like the good the quote unquote good iPad had face ID and like the the basic iPad always had touch ID so they kind of made it feel like this lesser than feature. And now it's like, oh, the top end device now has touch ID. So you're like, wait, what? So uh yeah. But I guess it unlocks with your watch or something if you use a watch. I don't know. Phones are not going to just use touch ID. Phone I thought. I have no idea. I didn't think that was a new thing. I don't know. I'm not wearing an Apple Watch anymore, so that wasn't help me. Yeah, exactly. Well, I I don't think I'd buy it. I think it looks nice. I think it's too expensive. I just Well for you guys it's like eight thousand dollars or something. So it's like it's cool. I think it's cool tech and I I'm not gonna say I wouldn't get one in like a year or two. Who knows? I've never used a folding phone, so I don't know if it's like work is for me. But yeah, I I don't know. I'm happy with my iPad. I feel like my iPad does all the stuff that that that does anyway. Yeah. So I guess the only other thing is the the little ap aperture in the Yeah. That was pretty neat. I don't know if they actually care. Like it's cool. I find whenever I take a as long as it's automatic. I think it was. I think they mentioned it's automatic. Like, I'm not like I don't want to use pro photography system where you've actually got to fiddle with it on a phone. I just find the phone is not conducive to fiddling to get a pro level shot. I just don't think of the phone as a camera. It's a point and click. It's it's it has a camera. I can get a picture of things with it, but I don't I don't think of it as if if it was sitting on the sh on a shelf next to another camera camera and you said go pick up the camera I'm not picking up the phone. Yeah, yeah. I know exactly. But I not probably not for me. Not a you know. If it was in there and that's just a feature of the phone, cool. Not gonna go buy a phone for that though. The one other thing I noticed in the uh the presentation itself, and uh a little little Easter egg that had Steve LeMay walking along having a little chat about one of the design features. He's the guy that he's the guy that's been promoted into like design and is the he's the guy that's replacing um that replaced what's his name who who gave us the curvy edged windows in Mac O's and he's Die. Die, yes, Ellen Die, thank you. So and I and they think Steve LeMay is see I feel like he's being presented as the future Johnny Ive for software design. Oh interesting. Okay. Yeah. I'm using all the OS twenty sevens and they seem fine. Yeah. Well that's you know, when you want day one delivery of of punditry, this is where you come. Exactly. Because generally we record a week after the event and then don't post for another week. Well there you go. Rise and shine. We're already past it. We s we thought this was gonna be a short episode. We're already past our timeline. We ca we can knock out a quick app corner though, just to get these off the books. Absolutely. Yeah, yeah. Go for it. So you love you love editing podcasts on your Mac, as you've stated many, many times. And I just wanted to let both you and Martin know, Audacity four exists now. Remember Audacity? That old little open source guy. The ugly thing. It it looks it looks really nice now. What? It doesn't look yeah, it doesn't look like Windows 95 anymore. Wow, I'm looking at it now. You're right. Yeah, uh looks great. If I had to pick between using garage band and audacity, I would go with Audacity at this point. Maybe I should try it. It looks great. I don't know. I've I haven't had anything to try it with yet, but it's uh looks nice. So Audacity 4. There you go. The next probably my favorite. Are you ready for something that I know you're gonna install immediately. Of course. After glow. This is gonna hit you way harder than it would hit Martin, being of you know, his his his young age. Yeah. This is a screensaver app where you can run all of the after dark screensavers on your today Mac. Like Flying Toasters. Flying Toasters. Yeah. So yeah. It's great. I have flying toasters going all the time. Oh my gosh. Do you know I've got a flying toasters story for you. It's got all of 'em. After Dark 1, 2, 3, 4. It's got 'em all. It's got everything. So can I give you a my little Flying Toasters memory lane moment? Oh please. Back it back when Flying Toasters was the thing, I didn't have a Mac. I had an Amiga. Yeah. And I found somewhere a flying Amiga version of Flying Toasters. It was like an emulator thing. I think it had some other name, but it still had flying toasters. And it did the same thing. Toasters would fly across the screen as a screensaver on my Amiga. And I remember and oh my god, my amiga really struggled to to run it. Flying was kind of an an overstatement. Animation was was quite slow. But man, it felt cool. And I was like at that time I was like, Oh, I wish I had a Mac because I had the I could see like the real flying toasters, not this ripoff version. Wonder what the ripoff version was. I wonder if I should do some research on that. But yeah. Boot blind. Okay, so I would definitely be installing this. Bootleg screensavers. That's where he's at. That's so funny. That's a good one. Made you want a Mac. So there you go. And then the last one I had was Bound Bo UN D. And this was I tried to use a I tried to use a Martin default app and it failed. So I had to I had to look elsewhere into the third-party community. And what I was trying to do was I have some Audible books that don't have DRM? Ha, take that. And I wanted to listen to them across different things. So I thought, oh, I'll throw them in that uh throw them in that books app. Because that'll just sync everything everywhere. No, no, it doesn't. Apple Books apparently will sync via iCloud any kind of like PDF or or ebook, no problem. Audio files won't do it. It will not sync audio files. So audiobooks are off the t unless you buy them from, you know, DRM Apple Books, then of course it will. But if you just dump one in like a M4B or whatever, it won't. So anyway, Bound is a little phone app where you can dump your DRM free audiobooks into it and listen to them as they were intended to be listened to without DRM. So there you go. It doesn't remove the DRM. I'm not trying to say this removes it. You have to do that yourself. Right. But it's just a it's a one-trick pony. It plays audiobooks and so far it has done it very well. So if you need that, bound. It's interesting. I would have never have thought that I would have thought to you sideload into a podcast player app or something. Mm. I I was doing that, but then it's mixed in with podcasts and then I uh it's true. I like the I like compartments, you know? You know me. I like things compartmentalized. So yes, you could absolutely do that, but now I'm like, ah, the podcasts are touching the books and the books are touching the podcasts and they're getting all, you know, the commingling of the of the files I didn't like. So There we go. That's three good finds. Especially the toaster. You just chuck that mouse up in the top corner, those toasters start flying. Oh good. Yes, I need that in my life. It's what hot corners was invented for. Sweet, sweet toasters.
