  And there's a lot of people I've had early on this podcast, in

  this short, 13-episode span. But dude, we met a long time.

  Long time ago. And I remember we met through a

  mutual friend and you were you were of a husky or side.

  You had a really straight you, I'd like a science teacher.

  Look, you didn't have the long hair, you had like, I wish we

  had photos of pull up and I remember, you're like, yeah,

  you're in a wrestling because like, you kind of start talking

  to me through our friend Nikolai, who kind of got me into

  the podcast space. And then you're like, I also

  love her, restlessly almost our training and I was like, dude,
• 5:08
  this guy with the bright red hair like he's gonna, he's gonna
• 5:10
  become Wrestling do to you. Absolutely.

  Transform yourself into a completely different human.

  And I remember when the first time I was like, holy shit, not
• 5:22
  only is John a professional wrestler, but he's gonna fucking
• 5:26
  take over the scene, is when you went to outbreak quarantine
• 5:30
  sessions that, try out and you cut that promo and you sent it
• 5:34
  to me and I remember, just looking at it going.
• 5:37
  If he's a tenth percent in, The ring, what he just did on that
• 5:42
  promo. This guy is going to take over
• 5:45
  and then your wrestling ability matched.
• 5:47
  What your character was, and what you can speak and what you
• 5:50
  can do. And dude, you are this year
• 5:53
  alone 2020 the last year alone. 2022 everywhere you've traveled.

  Man, you've really outstretched yourself and you you are doing

  amazing things. There's been a lot of shows that
• 6:03
  you, I went to that you're at man, and and you representing
• 6:07
  the sanctuary stole, the show Absolutely stole the show.

  Tony if I wasn't getting like washed out right now, you can

  see very, very flushed cheeks. I don't I'm not, it's weird.

  Like I like to project like I have like confidence and things
• 6:27
  like that, but when people like legit give me compliments like

  that. I'm just like.

  So it really means a lot man. I really I saw myself.

  Doing it from a young age and I just, I didn't really wasn't in
• 6:47
  like, I'm interested in a lot of things.
• 6:49
  I just didn't want to do them as bad as I wanted to do this.

  And I'm glad I went to college all those things, but when I
• 6:57
  finally got to make the connections in, like I'll say
• 7:01
  it, like, obviously my talk to Nikolai was talking to people
• 7:04
  about, right? It was just hey, I want to be a
• 7:06
  wrestler and I don't know if you knew the story about how the
• 7:09
  last day of my college career. I said it was literally the last
• 7:14
  class of the last day of my college career said, hey, I'm a
• 7:16
  big wrestling fan. And Ronnie Flores says, yeah,
• 7:18
  trained in Hazleton. And I'm like, that's not far.
• 7:22
  And here we are three years. Yeah, I was, I was somewhat
• 7:27
  aware of the sanctuary but not to the extent of what it is.
• 7:31
  Now, like, what, how much I'm into it now.
• 7:33
  And I will say a huge part of me coming to the sanctuary is 100%
• 7:38
  you thanks dude. Blows my mind like Like looking
• 7:42
  back at The Archives of stuff like, like some of it sink
• 7:45
  sometimes because, you know, some like old like technology
• 7:48
  gets corrupted when you try to like, bring it into new spheres,
• 7:51
  like, YouTube and things like that, but it's been recorded on
• 7:54
  hard drives and stuff like that. So, but like going back and
• 7:58
  seeing even the stuff that's just on YouTube.

  Now of the people that have come through sanctuary, I'm still
• 8:03
  surprised every so often where I'm like oh it's Jordan Brazen
• 8:06
  Jonathan Gresham What that? Yeah, so for Baker won the
• 8:11
  women's tournament here like it and Anthony bones was almost the
• 8:16
  first champion of the mercy of the sanctuary life.
• 8:19
  And I can only hope that the next generation of guys that
• 8:24
  come through to train because that's really our main focus of
• 8:28
  training is like, I hope to be that person that people kind of
• 8:33
  want to Aspire to of like, hey, they're doing really cool
• 8:36
  things, they came. Through here, I can do that,
• 8:40
  too. So that's just one of those like
• 8:42
  things might. And again, it's guys like a
• 8:45
  zits, guys, like, D3. It's guys like J, Ms. J girls,
• 8:49
  like gaming, Senegal and everybody else that just every
• 8:53
  all kinds of people you, again, it's, you can't, I can't fathom
• 8:57
  like, in my head of just like, yeah, they may have just come in
• 8:59
  for a sip of tea and left, but it's like, they were here.

  Yeah. Yes, were Strickland, you know,

  I mean like, yeah, Sand ants were still talks with brain MXT.

  Well, I know why I had. If I had a whole conversation

  with bones about the sanctuary, he was very, he was very
• 9:25
  positive about his experience there.

  I, when I talked to sports trick when I said, dude, I'm a

  commentary at the sanctuary goes, I missed that fucking
• 9:31
  play. Like, you know, I mean, like,
• 9:32
  there's people in the business who still think very highly of
• 9:35
  that. But yeah, and thank that's like,
• 9:37
  thanks to John. And Billy of like because
• 9:40
  they've known so many people and they've touched so many people.

  I've been able to have that confidence to say, hey I'm from
• 9:47
  here, I trained under these people, we have this connection.

  Now I'm really cool with Masha, slam of itch.

  I didn't think that was going to happen such a such a mega.

  What's funny? I didn't know that the guy

  essentially Walker, who was training everybody at the
• 10:03
  sanctuary for a while was her trainer and I walk in the
• 10:06
  sanctuary one day thinking I'm just I Found the newest Gem and
• 10:09
  professional wrestling. I'm like everyone stop.

  Everyone has to look up. This wrestler, Masha Slavoj I'm
• 10:14
  gushing over her and Billy's like, I've known her since she's
• 10:17
  17. I was like, she's the best.
• 10:20
  Yeah. It just like it.
• 10:22
  And what tricks my head is that it's a testament to both the
• 10:29
  skill of both of them as far as. So you've seen Billy train, the
• 10:33
  boys at all, right. It's he gets a hand.
• 10:38
  Anya, it's and he trains that way because you got to know it
• 10:42
  to be able to work it and stuff like that.
• 10:45
  And but he's very old school who would never put his hands on a
• 10:49
  lady. So everything he imparted to
• 10:52
  Masha was without him having his hands, and how good Masha is to
• 10:56
  be able to interpret his hieroglyphics of his way of
• 11:00
  speaking and to do, and to do it for herself and to translate,
• 11:03
  it's just raining. Now, she's the head trainer of a
• 11:07
  place and One of the people, I'm a huge fan of us, Cosmic Cosmic
• 11:11
  and Rembrandt and Cosmic went and started training under her
• 11:14
  and you can tell within and she was good before.
• 11:17
  But you can tell now of just a couple months working with
• 11:20
  Masha, this chick is I'm telling you Cosmic can be another name
• 11:23
  in The Independent wrestling scene.
• 11:25
  You need to keep your eye on because she's gonna tear shit
• 11:27
  up. Yes, it's one of the ways of
• 11:36
  like so It's like the oversaturated conversation.
• 11:40
  We're having a before about, like, with men's Athletics, is
• 11:43
  gets very impressive to see men, be super athletic and to do
• 11:46
  these things like that. And a lot of the time people
• 11:48
  drag women's wrestling because it's less flippy, Doo, Donna,
• 11:52
  and some guy like some girls can't go like to that physical
• 11:56
  level at some guys do. What their work and their
• 12:00
  psychology is so much better. We're all watch.

  I really like watching like vets.
• 12:06
  Like old-school. Really good worker vets.

  Like Roddy Piper. When he worked with Brett are

  like the these guys that older and younger.

  So you can see how the older wrestler working and the way I

  kind of tie that in is like, yeah, the women can't go to that
• 12:20
  that physical level like a vet could but they have to work
• 12:24
  around that and how they work around.

  That is so much more interesting than me and tells a better story
• 12:29
  than oh great. He just did a moonsault and yeah
• 12:33
  like that and a lot of the girls are leaning on their the
• 12:35
  technical prowess and the Strong Style which is making this.

  Like all these women are just beating the dog shit out of each
• 12:42
  other this is great. Like like I mean lover are hater
• 12:46
  for some of the controversy but Tessa Blanchard said a bar for
• 12:50
  everybody, Sheila see essentially fought like a new
• 12:53
  Japan Strong Style dude and just took that in the women's
• 12:56
  wrestling and then everyone kind of modeled them.

  I was after it. Do you know who hits really?

  And her kid. I've been telling her.

  I said, you need to get to a gym.

  big huge. She has big quads.

  some cool shit this year. And Riley can easily slide into

  that, that, I mean, it's hard to say there's a void soon coming

  with Masha because she seems to keep working as hard as she is

  an impact as she is on the Indie scene.

  think Riley can fill that void. I'm sorry, Tony.

  I just fantasy book, Masha, and Riley as a tag team and I just

  got there's got goosebumps tag team or a one-on-one.

  I, you know, I don't put things on the universe for them not to

  eventually happen. But yeah, we got way out track.

  I love the fact that we're putting over everybody, it's by

  doing that. But, but so, going back to the

  sanctuary and when I say this, I'm not saying this to Badger.

  I'm not saying this to be negative, but the perception of

  the sanctuary for for a little bit of time there was was not
• 14:30
  good and I want to talk more about that with the correct
• 14:33
  person. So I think sitting down with
• 14:36
  with, with John will definitely be something in the future that
• 14:39
  will be doing and he can definitely tell that story
• 14:41
  himself because he's very open about his changes of his
• 14:44
  personal self and and Reinventing the sanctuary into a
• 14:47
  different image, but I'm like your class of people, I think
• 14:51
  have really like you pal, copely know like use three who are
• 14:56
  still the active ones. Only have I feel really changed
• 15:01
  like, oh shit, talents coming back out of the sanctuary again,
• 15:04
  because I think there was a point that were people like,
• 15:07
  like, it was, it wasn't deemed. I would think, as, like a
• 15:10
  legitimate wrestling school and I think some people there for a
• 15:12
  while. There were kind of riding the
• 15:13
  sanctuary off and I think you three coming in there, putting
• 15:17
  on the work you did and then just as of last year, starting
• 15:21
  to Branch yourselves out and working in other places and
• 15:24
  going to the outbreaks and going to the Frontiers and showing up.
• 15:28
  Gcw and and just working everywhere you guys worked.
• 15:32
  And like, for example, I really think you and Polly.
• 15:34
  No, in outbreak. Will you guys had a showcase
• 15:37
  match for Sanctuary the day of the legendary Hamburg field
• 15:39
  house and in my opinion and my may be super biased.
• 15:42
  But in that tire card of 13 Natchez.
• 15:45
  I think you guys were the top match of the day and I think you
• 15:48
  guys really put the sanctuary back on the map and then more
• 15:51
  students started flowing in and now you're kind of with John and
• 15:55
  and Billy and Andre like use three or Are really stepping up
• 15:59
  and now are becoming trainers yourself and your really
• 16:02
  Reinventing of what that building can be and what that
• 16:04
  building can do for other people.
• 16:07
  Yeah, that really it's a it's a whole thing.

  Definitely talking to John is that he's the source of a lot of
• 16:13
  it that I'm not I'm going to try not to bring up some stuff so as
• 16:17
  I want him to tell that story judge it especially with like me

  and Andre be in like training like do training some of the
• 16:24
  boys now it's it's the classic adage of you don't truly know it
• 16:29
  unless you can teach it and it's a good.

  It would people don't realize is like, yeah, you want to work
• 16:38
  people that are better than you always.

  That's just a general. That'll help you get better but

  training people that are still coming up and need to work on
• 16:45
  their fundamentals. Continuously remind you of what

  those specific things that you were taught were with the things
• 16:52
  you got to kind of keep in mind about like, just just it.

  So, it becomes ingrained in you. Yeah, so I'm really thankful for

  that. But even yeah, before before I
• 17:03
  got the Lori. So I got the sanctuary in
• 17:05
  January of 2019 and I had like message on and he thought I was
• 17:11
  from the state, like that's what that's what John was going
• 17:14
  through at the time. Like back when the State
• 17:16
  athletic commission was still kind of that case was still kind
• 17:19
  of open. But so like you had you had all
• 17:23
  these things that were on on his mind of like college professor
• 17:28
  and all just just series of trying to manage life and his
• 17:32
  and his dream. Well yeah.

  You have wrestling drama and he goes from hears because John's
• 17:37
  been in it since the 90s and so like you have all these years of
• 17:42
  either relationships, you're trying to balance of, like,
• 17:44
  people want things you're trying to do other things.
• 17:48
  And I think there was just always this Vision that John had
• 17:54
  and stuff that he wanted to do, because Sanctuary has been
• 17:56
  running since 2014 in some capacity as far as just being a
• 18:03
  studio for. Saying and then, but even still
• 18:06
  there, were guys coming in to train like Ace, Austin, because
• 18:10
  that was a whole thing of like a ace.
• 18:13
  Even if I think I hit mentioned about that, he wasn't sure if
• 18:17
  Sanctuary was, like a taboo thing or not until like he got
• 18:21
  the okay, from Sam? And then he was like, oh, this
• 18:24
  place is awesome. So there were people coming in
• 18:27
  to work out or train and learn your, your, your first year.
• 18:31
  You had aced hanging out a lot Yugi.
• 18:34
  Me hanging out a lot and you had Colby kirino hanging out there a
• 18:39
  lot, which is like, holy shit. That's really three.
• 18:42
  Good people to sharpen your skills around.
• 18:44
  Well, you know, that, that was it.
• 18:45
  That was an instant like what the hell?
• 18:48
  And even and then tow Amaya via pop it out, like I met Melina, I
• 18:53
  met Steve Corino, I hate yeah, people, I had no business like
• 18:57
  that. That soon I was like, okay, that

  that reaffirms that like shit that I already knew of like,

  okay, Mike Trainers are legit people.

  Yeah, they didn't need these people to justify them or back
• 19:12
  them up, but it's a nice little visual reminder of they through

  these people. You it's possible.

  You know, like that's why I always say to people.

  The root one of the big reasons I got into wrestling was Nacho

  Libre because there's no way it could be that easy to get into

  wrestling and to meet these people and do these things.

  It's kind of is Get your foot in the door and you talk to the

  right people and it just it just kind of I'm so fucking lucky.

  I'm really a man. I sort of a wrestling show and

  they're like, you're going to help it a meet and greet.

  I was like, what am I, what do I do?
• 19:45
  And they're like, just stand next to him for three hours.

  I like the guy who I just been watching on TV for since I'm a
• 19:51
  kid or like yeah. And I was just like, what are we
• 19:54
  doing? Yeah, yeah but so the with like
• 19:58
  coming at. So so yeah coming in in the cold
• 20:02
  in this ice-cold church I've just kind of figuring it out.
• 20:07
  And and like, when I got like the first day, I was there,
• 20:10
  there are a bunch of people like, from this season before it
• 20:13
  Sanctuary. Not too many like well-known
• 20:17
  names. But, like, it was just there
• 20:19
  were other people. And like, there were some people
• 20:22
  flowing in and out that we were just, we had this space, I guess
• 20:29
  John John had the space to, to do a bit of a reset because that
• 20:33
  was that Is the big story of that time was like, oh we're
• 20:38
  getting shut down by the state. And we have to kind of start
• 20:42
  from ground zero or on the roster left.
• 20:45
  Because that, that little bit in the beginning of season 9, with
• 20:47
  like a bird beak straight, kill you, Nick Murphy.
• 20:50
  Another like, former Sanctuary Champion who's an absolute unit
• 20:54
  right now and so it, but so that was the roster left and it was
• 21:01
  just us and we, We pulled from really kind of like sure.

  They're those natural embellishments to tell a better
• 21:12
  story, but a lot of what season nine was was each of our truths
• 21:17
  kind of just in some capacity of like, I'm from the theater
• 21:21
  Department of Bloomsburg Andres, an immigrant from the Dominican
• 21:24
  Republic. Jordan's are Republican at the
• 21:27
  time and if that at the time, if you're going to be a heel,
• 21:30
  you're going to be a trump supporter.
• 21:31
  So it's like it's those things that just oh and then you're
• 21:34
  going to fall in love with this trans person and you're not
• 21:36
  going to know they're trans. Laughter.

  And he fell in love because she's saying this to the

  national anthem, it's a magical and it's those things that just

  because of who we are and just we came together at the right
• 21:49
  time to be able to tell such an fun like good story for the

  time. That's like my favorite.

  One of my favorite just moments of like just performing was that
• 22:02
  thing backstage where I shaved my beard talking about like what
• 22:06
  America is. Is and it was just like that
• 22:09
  organically came about just from us being there, wanting to put
• 22:14
  on a story. And that was, yeah, we had to,
• 22:17
  we have no choice but to tell story because our physical
• 22:21
  skills wrestling weren't nearly as good.
• 22:24
  My first match with Cory was hardly a little grappling and I
• 22:27
  got choked out by a headlock that was to demonstrate that.
• 22:30
  I didn't know what I was doing. I'm not very good of a wrestler
• 22:33
  lo and behold I didn't win at the end of the season and it's
• 22:36
  just like it. It's to tell a story of it.
• 22:39
  And so we're really, I was just talking with the boys as you
• 22:44
  brought us precious basically. And and he's one of the ones.
• 22:47
  I'm really excited to see what he comes up with, as far as
• 22:51
  like, wanting to tell stories and it's on because it's
• 22:54
  interesting to see how you guys are looked up to by this new
• 22:59
  class. As hey, we need to figure out
• 23:03
  how to maybe the sanctuary. Doesn't go back to the as much
• 23:06
  storage. Three and skit.

  It was like Saturday Night Live with pro wrestling and now it's
• 23:12
  at the point where it's kind of re-spark in itself.

  And you have people coming from Creator Pro.

  You have people coming from all over the place, who want to
• 23:18
  wrestle there and get their work and do their thing.
