- 0:56Don Armstrong: And uh guess what the Hemmings car sold for?
- 1:00Don Armstrong: So let's start with the recalls.
- 1:02Don Armstrong: Yes?
- 1:02Mike Marrs: Yeah, one thing.
- 1:03Mike Marrs: We're uh having trouble with our Facebook channel.
- 1:06Mike Marrs: We've got a couple of other Facebooks, but you can also pick us up on YouTube if you're uh trying to see the video of the live show.
- 1:14Mike Marrs: For some reason, I'm working on it, but Facebook's not connected anymore.
- 1:19Don Armstrong: Well, well, doo-doo.
- 1:21Mike Marrs: Well, that's not exactly what I said, but close.
- 1:25Don Armstrong: What did you say, Mike?
- 1:26Don Armstrong: If if it was it worse than what doo-doo?
- 1:28Don Armstrong: Beep that okay, yeah.
- 1:32Don Armstrong: Well, that's just great to know.
- 1:34Don Armstrong: Thank you, Facebook.
- 1:35Mike Marrs: While you're doing the recalls, I'm gonna step away and see if I can do something.
- 1:38Jeff Dziekan: Please do.
- 1:39Jeff Dziekan: And another thing, while you're doing that, Mike, I can't pull up your uh your driving desk, your um your motor minute or not your motor.
- 1:46Jeff Dziekan: Your next segment, I can't see it on the screen.
- 1:49Don Armstrong: Well, that's okay.
- 1:51Don Armstrong: Well, you guys worked on that.
- 1:53Don Armstrong: Yeah, you you go go away, Mike.
- 1:55Don Armstrong: All right.
- 1:55Don Armstrong: Um, so here are the recalls this week, and it's mainly Ford Motor.
- 2:00Don Armstrong: No, it's all Ford Motor Company.
- 2:02Don Armstrong: Seriously, yeah, it's all Ford Motor Company.
- 2:04Don Armstrong: And I don't have anything against Ford.
- 2:05Don Armstrong: I didn't do this.
- 2:06Don Armstrong: Yeah, well, they just got a JD Parr award.
- 2:08Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 2:09Don Armstrong: So uh let's start with this.
- 2:10Don Armstrong: Ford F-150 2018 to 2020.
- 2:13Don Armstrong: Daytime running lights may not dim.
- 2:16Don Armstrong: That's being recalled.
- 2:17Don Armstrong: All of these are recalls.
- 2:18Don Armstrong: Um, window automatic reversal system malfunction and the Ford Escape, you ain't escaping from that 2017 model.
- 2:26Jeff Dziekan: That's a safety feature in case like someone's got their arm or a kid's in the way.
- 2:29Don Armstrong: How about this unintended vehicle movement?
- 2:32Don Armstrong: What exactly does that mean?
- 2:35Don Armstrong: Is it a herky jerky kind of?
- 2:36Don Armstrong: Maybe a lurch, put it in park, maybe it moves.
- 2:39Don Armstrong: I don't know.
- 2:39Don Armstrong: Well, that would be the Ford F-150 for 2018.
- 2:43Don Armstrong: Transmission clutch may fracture and leak fluid on the Ford Focus and Ford Fusion 2013 through 2018.
- 2:52Don Armstrong: Five years.
- 2:53Don Armstrong: Okay, so these are older models.
- 2:55Don Armstrong: Some steering wheel hands-off detection alerts may fail in the Lincoln Nautilus for 2019.
- 3:02Don Armstrong: Good.
- 3:04Don Armstrong: Unexpected downshift can cause loss of control in the F-150 for 2014.
- 3:10Jeff Dziekan: That's they just had that recently too on another model.
- 3:14Jeff Dziekan: If you're keeping score at home, that's a repeat.
- 3:17Jeff Dziekan: Yeah.
- 3:17Don Armstrong: Well, not on the same vehicle.
- 3:18Don Armstrong: No, not the same vehicle, the same issue, different, different.
- 3:20Don Armstrong: Different model, yeah.
- 3:22Don Armstrong: Thought you'd like those.
- 3:24Don Armstrong: So that's the recall list.
- 3:25Don Armstrong: Okay.
- 3:26Don Armstrong: Now it's time to can he's he's away and he's got the he's got the giddy up for that.
- 3:33Don Armstrong: Oh, he does have the giddy up for that.
- 3:35Jeff Dziekan: I've got that.
- 3:35Don Armstrong: So and he's away.
- 3:37Don Armstrong: And he's away.
- 3:38Don Armstrong: All right.
- 3:38Don Armstrong: Well, we're gonna hold on to the sold car roundup for a few minutes until he returns, I think.
- 3:45Don Armstrong: If I could get to it, I could do it, but it's the screen is uh oh different.
- 3:53Don Armstrong: Mr.
- 3:53Don Armstrong: Morris, do you happen to have the sold car roundup available?
- 3:57Mike Marrs: Yeah, it's ready.
- 3:58Mike Marrs: Oh, ready, ready.
- 3:59Don Armstrong: All right, are you ready?
- 4:00Don Armstrong: Okay, so we're gonna do that then.
- 4:02Don Armstrong: All right, sign in, everybody.
- 4:04Don Armstrong: We're ready to go.
- 4:06Don Armstrong: Everybody waits for this, and this is a this is a fun feature that we came up with, and we hope you like it.
- 4:11Don Armstrong: So these are cars that sold on the online auction that Hemings has every week.
- 4:16Don Armstrong: You could actually sell your car on here as well.
- 4:19Don Armstrong: And we try to pick some of the classics and some of the unique vehicles that show up on here.
- 4:23Don Armstrong: So the first up this uh this morning is going to be a if I could turn the page, a 1986 Chevrolet K10.
- 4:38Don Armstrong: There it is, an 86 Chevy K10, what we call a square body.
- 4:42Don Armstrong: It's the two-door because that's all they had back then.
- 4:45Don Armstrong: How much do you think that that sold car sold for?
- 4:50Don Armstrong: 86 Chevy K10.
- 4:53Don Armstrong: I don't know how many miles it's got on it.
- 4:55Don Armstrong: We're not gonna get all that detail, but it looks like it's very well kept, nice paint job.
- 5:00Don Armstrong: It's got uh some aftermarket tires and wheels on it, chrome bumper.
- 5:05Don Armstrong: It's got uh an overrider on the front of it under the hood, it looks pretty good to me.
- 5:09Jeff Dziekan: Okay, I'm gonna say my price, so don't give me any feedback on this.
- 5:11Jeff Dziekan: I'm gonna go 12 grand.
- 5:13Don Armstrong: 12 grand.
- 5:14Don Armstrong: Who's who else is uh joining us today?
- 5:17Mike Marrs: Heitzman says 15 and Mr.
- 5:22Mike Marrs: Lusk and company say 37k.
- 5:25Don Armstrong: Oh, interesting.
- 5:27Don Armstrong: He must have one.
- 5:28Don Armstrong: Well, um, you know, I have to tell you that um Mr.
- 5:32Don Armstrong: Lusk is closer than anybody else.
- 5:34Don Armstrong: Oh, this truck sold for$24,045.
- 5:38Don Armstrong: Wow.
- 5:39Don Armstrong: So impressive.
- 5:40Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 5:41Don Armstrong: Um, it's a little pricey for me, but I would buy that truck.
- 5:45Don Armstrong: I can see myself driving.
- 5:46Don Armstrong: Not for that much.
- 5:47Jeff Dziekan: Well, no, I didn't say you know, Barrett Jackson is running this weekend, and they're in Cincinnati, Ohio.
- 5:52Jeff Dziekan: Cleveland, Ohio, I believe.
- 5:54Mike Marrs: Yeah, which is the home.
- 5:56Mike Marrs: I guess one of them sold at Barrett Jackson for$100K last night.
- 6:00Don Armstrong: Uh see there, he's watching it too.
- 6:02Don Armstrong: Yeah, that's too much.
- 6:03Don Armstrong: Yeah, okay.
- 6:04Don Armstrong: Next up, Jeff, a 19 and 41 Cadillac 61.
- 6:11Don Armstrong: Do that, baby.
- 6:13Don Armstrong: Look at that.
- 6:14Don Armstrong: And it and uh it's got the it's got blacked-out regular steel wheels with wide whites on it.
- 6:20Don Armstrong: It looks super clean.
- 6:21Don Armstrong: It's a two-door, isn't it?
- 6:23Don Armstrong: I think it's a two-door.
- 6:24SPEAKER_02: Um, it's it's not it's not two door.
- 6:28Don Armstrong: It's not the body style that I would go for.
- 6:30Don Armstrong: It certainly is a look, and it would look really good on the hot rod tour of Texas.
- 6:35Don Armstrong: So, how much do you think that that 41 Caddy 61 would cost?
- 6:39Jeff Dziekan: It's got too much mods on it.
- 6:41Jeff Dziekan: Uh, hard to guess with the paint and everything and wheels.
- 6:45Jeff Dziekan: I'm gonna go 21,000.
- 6:47Jeff Dziekan: 21,000.
- 6:49Don Armstrong: Lust family system 30.
- 6:51Don Armstrong: Is that is that a flathead V8?
- 6:53Don Armstrong: It kind of looks like one, yeah.
- 6:54Don Armstrong: It is a flathead, so it's probably got a factory original flathead in it, I assume.
- 7:02Mike Marrs: So I'm not familiar with the 41 Catalan.
- 7:05Don Armstrong: I know either and the engine options that it had.
- 7:07Mike Marrs: Looking at the rest of the agent apartment, I'd say it's original.
- 7:10Mike Marrs: Now, this uh Mr.
- 7:12Mike Marrs: Adams on here is actually Mr.
- 7:13Mike Marrs: Ainsley's incognito.
- 7:15Don Armstrong: Oh, I see.
- 7:16Don Armstrong: Well, it sold for six thousand dollars.
- 7:20Don Armstrong: Well, come on now, six thousand dollars, Jeff.
- 7:23Don Armstrong: That's what it's sold for, you know.
- 7:25Jeff Dziekan: I could see that.
- 7:26Don Armstrong: Yeah, because it's yeah, I could see that because it's just it's it's yeah, it it's a little bit too much.
- 7:32Don Armstrong: I think that I would tone it down a little bit.
- 7:34Don Armstrong: Exactly.
- 7:35Don Armstrong: I think that I put me some you know, Crager SS on or something, and I get those a little bit milder than that, you know, looks more gaudy.
- 7:41Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 7:42Mike Marrs: All right, next up real popular, right?
- 7:47Don Armstrong: Next up is the 1986 Chevrolet Monte Carlo.
- 7:54Don Armstrong: It's had some mods to it.
- 7:56Don Armstrong: That's certainly not a stock hood, I don't think.
- 8:01Don Armstrong: Would you agree with that?
- 8:02Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, I would say so.
- 8:03Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, yeah.
- 8:04Don Armstrong: It's clean looking, it's nice looking, I think.
- 8:07Don Armstrong: Um, I think you know, I I'm not big on oversized wheels uh in the back, but whatever the case may be.
- 8:16Don Armstrong: 86 86.
- 8:18Jeff Dziekan: Okay, I'm gonna go 12 grand again.
- 8:20Mike Marrs: Valour interior?
- 8:21Mike Marrs: Yep.
- 8:22Jeff Dziekan: I could do velour.
- 8:25Jeff Dziekan: I'm wearing velour right now.
- 8:27Jeff Dziekan: Yeah.
- 8:28Mike Marrs: Underwear one at 17 from the lusk family.
- 8:34Don Armstrong: Anybody else?
- 8:37Mike Marrs: Uh I think they're in shock on the 41 caddy things.
- 8:42Don Armstrong: Probably so this car sold for 15,000 225.
- 8:47Don Armstrong: See, now I would do that.
- 8:48Don Armstrong: I would do that.
- 8:50Don Armstrong: The problem is, the problem is, and here's my problem.
- 8:53Don Armstrong: I back in the day, I bought a 1957 Chevrolet pickup truck, had lots of modifications on it.
- 9:01Don Armstrong: It was a rust bucket.
- 9:02Don Armstrong: I mean, it was rusting through in the cab, but it wasn't perfect.
- 9:05Don Armstrong: It was okay.
- 9:06Don Armstrong: It was turd brown, and uh I didn't really care about that.
- 9:10Don Armstrong: Had an extra gas tank in it.
- 9:12Don Armstrong: I didn't care about that, had an air conditioning uh system hanging underneath the dashboard.
- 9:16Don Armstrong: I didn't care about any of that, I was just looking for an extra ride.
- 9:20Don Armstrong: But I wound up spending more time getting the thing and keeping it running on the road because I was working on the Corvette at the time.
- 9:28Don Armstrong: So that was something that you got to keep in mind when you get one of these cars.
- 9:32Don Armstrong: All right, next up, the number four car is uh 2005.
- 9:36Don Armstrong: Did you oh you sold it for seven?
- 9:38Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, you're a 20, but never mind.
- 9:39Don Armstrong: Go ahead.
- 9:40Don Armstrong: Uh, this is a 2005 Chevrolet SSR.
- 9:45Don Armstrong: And in 2005, when this came came out, we thought, wow, that is really cool.
- 9:50Don Armstrong: And they had to bring out tooling that they used on the 1950s pickup trucks to make those fenders and those curves in it, which I thought was different.
- 10:01Don Armstrong: Maybe a dollar.
- 10:03Don Armstrong: Once I drove it, it uh was unimpressive.
- 10:07Don Armstrong: Um, the it has a hardtop convertible roof that folds down into behind the seat.
- 10:15Don Armstrong: I'll give you 19 for it, and that's too much.
- 10:18Jeff Dziekan: 19.
- 10:18Don Armstrong: I have a friend of mine that has one.
- 10:20Don Armstrong: Uh and uh good luck on that.
- 10:23Don Armstrong: The engine is weak, it has no power whatsoever, but it looks cool.
- 10:28Don Armstrong: This shows that Indy 500.
- 10:30Don Armstrong: Did it ever paste the Indy 500?
- 10:32Don Armstrong: I don't know.
- 10:33Mike Marrs: Uh, I think it did with the logos.
- 10:35Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 10:35Don Armstrong: Uh anyway, how much did it sell for?
- 10:38Mike Marrs: We got one at 34,000.
- 10:40Mike Marrs: Yeah, Mr.
- 10:40Mike Marrs: Lusk, and then uh Mr.
- 10:42Mike Marrs: Ainsley apparently is not very impressed.
- 10:45Jeff Dziekan: Uh, you know, I'm kind of leaning towards David there, but I said 19, and that's a little high.
- 10:50Jeff Dziekan: Mr.
- 10:50Mike Marrs: uh Heitzman, where did Jeff go?
- 10:52unknown: 12.
- 10:54Don Armstrong: Let me let me just say this.
- 10:55Don Armstrong: It sold for 42,000.
- 10:59Don Armstrong: Lord.
- 11:00Don Armstrong: All I can think of is if this is a paced truck, uh, it must be an original and it must be low miles, and it must be worth forty-two thousand dollars.
- 11:11Jeff Dziekan: No, thank you.
- 11:12Don Armstrong: I wouldn't pay anywhere near that.
- 11:14Don Armstrong: Don't like the color.
- 11:16Don Armstrong: Yeah, it's not for me.
- 11:17Don Armstrong: All right, next up.
- 11:20Don Armstrong: Yeah, okay.
- 11:21Don Armstrong: Next up, a 1966 Ford Bronco.
- 11:25Don Armstrong: Oh boy.
- 11:26Don Armstrong: Now you know, they Ford didn't spend a lot of money on this thing when they built it.
- 11:36Don Armstrong: It was to compete against the Jeep Wrangler.
- 11:38Don Armstrong: And this is a 66 model.
- 11:40Don Armstrong: I know that they're hot right now with the ones that are left that are decent.
- 11:45Don Armstrong: Um, this I think has had a complete restoration, if that's any tip-off into how much that this car sold for.
- 11:52Jeff Dziekan: I opened my wallet, a moth flew out of it, and I'm gonna go 50 grand.
- 11:56Jeff Dziekan: 50,000.
- 11:58Jeff Dziekan: Anybody else?
- 11:59Mike Marrs: Mr.
- 12:00Mike Marrs: Lus thinks a little bit more of it.
- 12:01Mike Marrs: He's up at 78.
- 12:03Mike Marrs: Yeah, but I also I I didn't know they were uh what spit it out, Mike.
- 12:12Mike Marrs: Well, I had something pop up on blocked in my deal, and I couldn't see what I was looking for, Mr.
- 12:16Mike Marrs: Heitzman there.
- 12:17Jeff Dziekan: Nine grand per month.
- 12:19Mike Marrs: But there's also a company that's building these brands.
- 12:21Mike Marrs: Yeah, I know.
- 12:21Mike Marrs: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 12:22Don Armstrong: I know, I know they are, and uh they charge an arm and a leg.
- 12:26Don Armstrong: And guess what?
- 12:26Don Armstrong: This one sold for the arm and two legs at$141,750.
- 12:33Don Armstrong: The Lux family and I are gonna put our money together and we'll go to buy it.
- 12:36Don Armstrong: Yeah, I wouldn't.
- 12:37Don Armstrong: I wouldn't either.
- 12:38Don Armstrong: Uh okay, next up, a 1968 Mercury Cougar.
- 12:42Don Armstrong: You know, I just learned recently that this is not a redo of the Ford Mustang in a Mercury.
- 12:48Don Armstrong: No, no, it's a separate car.
- 12:50Don Armstrong: It's it's a completely separate car, and you can't interchange the parts.
- 12:54Jeff Dziekan: I think they tried in the beginning.
- 12:55Jeff Dziekan: Uh, they tried to do that, but I a friend of mine had a cougar, loved that car.
- 13:00Don Armstrong: It's a big car, it's a it's a sports car.
- 13:02Don Armstrong: If you put it you put it next to a Mustang and it's big, it had a 390 in it.
- 13:07Don Armstrong: Oh my god.
- 13:08Don Armstrong: And so what do you have a high school kid driving it?
- 13:10Don Armstrong: So I think that you might be interested in this.
- 13:12Don Armstrong: I would love that car.
- 13:13Don Armstrong: Okay, so 68 Mercury Cougar, how much did it sell for?
- 13:16Don Armstrong: Uh, I'm gonna say 32 grand.
- 13:18Don Armstrong: 32.
- 13:19Don Armstrong: Okay.
- 13:20Don Armstrong: Anybody else?
- 13:21Don Armstrong: The Lusk family says David says, how much?
- 13:25Mike Marrs: 21,000.
- 13:27unknown: 20.
- 13:28Don Armstrong: He said what?
- 13:28Don Armstrong: 21.
- 13:29Don Armstrong: 21, yeah.
- 13:29Mike Marrs: Yeah.
- 13:30Mike Marrs: And then uh Mr.
- 13:32Mike Marrs: Aisley is at 25.
- 13:35Don Armstrong: Okay.
- 13:35Mike Marrs: Heitzman's bumping up it to 31.
- 13:39Mike Marrs: Mr.
- 13:40Mike Marrs: Skelton, 22.9.
- 13:43Don Armstrong: Well, guess what?
- 13:44Don Armstrong: I think George may win this because it sold for 20,169.
- 13:48Don Armstrong: Oh, I'd buy it.
- 13:48Don Armstrong: Now that would be a car to buy.
- 13:50Don Armstrong: It would.
- 13:50Mike Marrs: And look at the uh compared to what the Mustangs are running, uh, I would definitely think that's a buyer.
- 13:55Jeff Dziekan: Yep, the door seals look good on it.
- 13:56Jeff Dziekan: Uh, door seals, and you look at the radiator.
- 13:58Jeff Dziekan: That's a that's not a factory radiator.
- 14:00Jeff Dziekan: No, it's a good idea.
- 14:00Jeff Dziekan: So it's got some work.
- 14:01Don Armstrong: Yeah, it's got engine work on it.
- 14:03Don Armstrong: It's got, yeah, look at the wheels look pretty, pretty original.
- 14:07Don Armstrong: It's a driver, it looks like that's a nice car.
- 14:09Mike Marrs: Nice car.
- 14:10Don Armstrong: Red's a little bright, but it's okay.
- 14:11Don Armstrong: We'll do that.
- 14:13Mike Marrs: You know what?
- 14:14Mike Marrs: Did I did I have to do it?
- 14:17Don Armstrong: Okay, uh, and I got a couple of here.
- 14:19Don Armstrong: Uh uh 40 Fords.
- 14:21Don Armstrong: Well, the first one is a 40 Ford.
- 14:23Don Armstrong: Okay, 40 Ford Deluxe.
- 14:25Don Armstrong: This looks like it's a complete uh stock car, uh, I guess.
- 14:30Don Armstrong: Uh wide whites, hubcaps, beautiful paint job.
- 14:35Don Armstrong: If you're into this style of a car, that would have been like the this is the Ford Deluxe now.
- 14:40Don Armstrong: This is like the businessman's business.
- 14:43Don Armstrong: Businessman.
- 14:46Don Armstrong: What do you think that's sold for?
- 14:48Don Armstrong: Boy, I'm gonna go 32.
- 14:51Don Armstrong: 32?
- 14:52Don Armstrong: Yeah, okay.
- 14:54Don Armstrong: 32.
- 14:56Don Armstrong: Anybody else?
- 14:58Don Armstrong: Someone says hello.
- 14:59Mike Marrs: Yeah, I think I'll hear it.
- 15:01Mike Marrs: Mr.
- 15:01Mike Marrs: Lusk is uh 19K.
- 15:06Jeff Dziekan: He's probably closer.
- 15:07Don Armstrong: Well, let me let me say this.
- 15:11Don Armstrong: This sold for$27,536.
- 15:15Jeff Dziekan: Oh, wow.
- 15:16Jeff Dziekan: That's not bad.
- 15:17Don Armstrong: So let's go back in time.
- 15:19Don Armstrong: It's basically the same body style, but uh this one here is five years older.
- 15:24Don Armstrong: This is a 1935 Ford model 48.
- 15:29Don Armstrong: And I assume it's got a flathead Ford in it, V8.
- 15:32Don Armstrong: Yeah, look, yep, it sure does.
- 15:33Don Armstrong: All right, so uh stick on the floor.
- 15:36Don Armstrong: And how much do you think that this thing sold for?
- 15:38Don Armstrong: Well, it's got a three-speed on the floor, right?
- 15:41Jeff Dziekan: I'm gonna I'm gonna stick with my 32.
- 15:44Jeff Dziekan: 32, okay.
- 15:46Don Armstrong: Even though it's older, five years older.
- 15:47Don Armstrong: That's that doesn't make a difference.
- 15:48Don Armstrong: Same body style.
- 15:50Don Armstrong: Man, back in the day they used that body style uh at the racetrack over at Meyer Speedway.
- 15:54Jeff Dziekan: Okay, we got a 35-bid in there.
- 15:57Don Armstrong: 35.
- 15:58Don Armstrong: This sold for 22 570.
- 16:02Don Armstrong: And this has the tilt-out windshield as opposed to the cowl.
- 16:07Don Armstrong: Yeah, you can see that in the picture.
- 16:09Don Armstrong: Yep.
- 16:09Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 16:10Don Armstrong: And uh so, you know, they made some modifications.
- 16:12Don Armstrong: Uh, this also has the standalone headlights as opposed as opposed to the 40 model that incorporated headlights into the front fender.
- 16:19Jeff Dziekan: Wonderful.
- 16:20Don Armstrong: So 22,575 is what it went for.
- 16:23Don Armstrong: 22, 575.
- 16:24Jeff Dziekan: You know, everyone that's bid on this has been pretty close.
- 16:26Jeff Dziekan: They've been with a couple grand on that, a few thousand dollars, which is great.
- 16:30Jeff Dziekan: Well, the Bronco was that was a ring of tweak.
- 16:32Jeff Dziekan: That was a ringer.
- 16:35unknown: Yeah.
- 16:35Don Armstrong: All right.
- 16:36Don Armstrong: Well, thanks for playing.

- 16:50Don Armstrong: Well, here I'll just go ahead and leave next.
- 16:52Jeff Dziekan: There you go.
- 16:52Jeff Dziekan: All right.
- 16:53Jeff Dziekan: Well, he's gone.
- 16:54Jeff Dziekan: Let's do this.
- 16:54Don Armstrong: All right.
- 16:55Don Armstrong: Uh yeah, as I mentioned, next week, Fourth of July holiday, the boys and I are taking their brayer day off, but you'll be blessed with the best of In Real Time Car Talk.

- 17:17Don Armstrong: We're going to take a quick break.

- 18:57Jeff Dziekan: Thank you for that.
- 18:58Jeff Dziekan: Hey, we got NASCAR today, and you've got some uh the O'Reilly series is in Sonoma.
- 19:03Jeff Dziekan: It's gonna be on the CW Network at 5 30 p.m.
- 19:05Jeff Dziekan: tonight.
- 19:06Jeff Dziekan: And then tomorrow you have the big boys on TNT TV.
- 19:09Jeff Dziekan: Evidently, they're switching affiliates or something in mid-season or whatever.
- 19:13Jeff Dziekan: They do that.
- 19:14Jeff Dziekan: But that's gonna be in Sonoma also.
- 19:15Jeff Dziekan: Uh Don's favorite next week is going to be, of course, the the 4th of July weekend.
- 19:20Jeff Dziekan: You got lawnmower racing at the 12 mile 500.
- 19:24Jeff Dziekan: That's going to be at the 12 mile Indiana.
- 19:26Jeff Dziekan: It's going to be the Indiana series there.
- 19:28Jeff Dziekan: Uh, Formula One goes off on July 6th, so they're going to be in a little delay this week.
- 19:34Jeff Dziekan: Indy is actually July 6th, so a lot of that stuff's going on next week and the big holiday and all that stuff.
- 19:40Jeff Dziekan: And then you got the USAC boys, uh, July 1st through the 5th.
- 19:44Jeff Dziekan: Actually, July 1st through the 8th.
- 19:45Jeff Dziekan: Different parts of the country.
- 19:46Jeff Dziekan: You've got the different classes, you've got the midgets, the sprints, the crowns, all that good stuff.
- 19:50Jeff Dziekan: So check your USAC stuff going on there.
- 19:53Jeff Dziekan: Uh it's kind of weak for the big boys because of the holiday coming up in a big racing event next week.
- 19:58Jeff Dziekan: But if you're at a local track, support your local track.
- 20:01Jeff Dziekan: Get out there and get some mud slung on you or you know, smell the fumes.
- 20:04Jeff Dziekan: Go get a hot dog, have a cold beer, but support your local races.
- 20:09Don Armstrong: Thank you very much.
- 20:10Don Armstrong: All right, uh, time now for this week in auto history, Mr.
- 20:13Don Armstrong: Mars.
- 20:14Don Armstrong: Let it rip.
- 20:14Don Armstrong: Uh-oh.
- 20:15Don Armstrong: Yes, sir.
- 20:16Mike Marrs: We've got a few things that we're going to run through right quick here on uh related to this holiday week that's coming up.
- 20:22Mike Marrs: And on in 1894, inventor Elwood Haynes successfully tested his gasoline-powered vehicle up in Indiana.
- 20:30Don Armstrong: Elwood, part of the Blues brothers.
- 20:32Mike Marrs: Yeah.
- 20:33Mike Marrs: This is the problem.
- 20:34Mike Marrs: This is why he went to jail.
- 20:36Mike Marrs: So the uh Haynes Appleson, who was a guy that helped him with it, became one of the earliest successful American-built gasoline cars.
- 20:43Mike Marrs: In fact, because of history back the way records were kept back in the early 1800s, there's a lot of people think this may actually be the first uh true automobile in America.
- 20:55Mike Marrs: But there was a lot of them coming out, so they're still up to debate.
- 20:57Mike Marrs: But he was one of the earliest for sure.
- 20:59Jeff Dziekan: See, it's the earliest donk, that's for sure.
- 21:02Mike Marrs: Yes, it is.
- 21:04Mike Marrs: Then um in 1908, the great New York to Paris race.
- 21:08Mike Marrs: Now, I thought this was interesting because it literally goes from New York to Paris.
- 21:13Mike Marrs: I mean, you had to go across the country, you had to go across the oceans.
- 21:17Don Armstrong: There we go, walking on water again.
- 21:19Mike Marrs: Yeah, yeah.
- 21:20Mike Marrs: So it's 22,000 miles across three continents.
- 21:23Mike Marrs: Uh and this again was back in 1908.
- 21:26Mike Marrs: And the Thomas Flyer was declared the winner after uh going over some of the harshest roads uh imaginable.
- 21:32Mike Marrs: And of course, this was a worldwide got the worldwide attention from this because it did go halfway around the world.
- 21:38Don Armstrong: How did they ford the ocean?
- 21:40Mike Marrs: Put them on boats, put them on ships, literally.
- 21:43Mike Marrs: They had big balloon tires on them, and they kind of paddled paddle tires across there.
- 21:47Mike Marrs: But anyway, so also in 1914, Mercedes dominated the French Grand Prix.
- 21:55Mike Marrs: Now, it was a clean sweep by it because and it really wanted Mercedes went into it.
- 22:00Mike Marrs: To show their advanced engineering, including four-wheel brakes, not just two wheels, but four-wheel brakes, had some aerodynamic design that you can see in these pictures here, and uh their the reliability that they were building into it.
- 22:13Mike Marrs: So it demonstrated how racing could accelerate technology because a lot of other companies took the technology they found at this race and incorporated it into other uh aspects of their vehicles.
- 22:23Mike Marrs: Then in 1966, Irv Gordon purchased his legendary Volvo.
- 22:30Mike Marrs: Now you may not know about old Irv, but he bought a brand new Volvo P1800 in 1966.
- 22:38Mike Marrs: Now, it was just a plane car, obviously, uh, but he put three million miles on that car, got a Guinness World Book of Record on it, and uh that's now in uh the museum, a Volvo Museum, and that is the vehicle with three million miles on it by one person driving one car.
- 23:00Mike Marrs: He got his use out of that one.
- 23:02Don Armstrong: I saw the story on that.
- 23:03Don Armstrong: That was good.
- 23:04Mike Marrs: Then in 1979, see if you know this one, the first Auto Shack store opened in Forest City, Arkansas.
- 23:12Mike Marrs: Very modest at the time, but then that was the beginning of AutoZone.
- 23:16Mike Marrs: And I had no idea.
- 23:17Mike Marrs: I just thought AutoZone was always Auto Zone.
- 23:19Mike Marrs: I did too.
- 23:20Mike Marrs: But uh, it was truly an Auto Shack, I guess, comparable to uh Radio Shack or whatever it was at the time.
- 23:26Mike Marrs: Yeah, and of course it became a big national chain of vehicles.
- 23:30Mike Marrs: That was just a few of the things we found interesting in auto history this week.
- 23:34Don Armstrong: Perfect, very interesting in auto history.
- 23:38Don Armstrong: Fatal collision involving a Tesla sedan.
- 23:40Don Armstrong: You may have heard this on the news under federal investigation.
- 23:44Don Armstrong: After the electric vehicle slammed into a house here in Houston, killing a woman inside.
- 23:49Don Armstrong: NHTSA said June 22nd, it has opened a special crash investigation into that June 19th incident.
- 23:55Don Armstrong: Agency, which confirmed the probe in an email statement, didn't offer any additional details.
- 24:01Don Armstrong: I'm sure that we'll figure it all out.
- 24:03Don Armstrong: Uh, and we'll find out about it as well.
- 24:06Don Armstrong: So, yeah, just a horrible accident.
- 24:09Don Armstrong: Uh, Nissan CEO, Ivan Espinoza, slogged through a topsy turvy annual shareholders meeting, fending off multiple floor motions to remove him as chairman of the gathering, a no-confidence vote, and get this another proposal to appoint former chairman Carlos Gosen to the Japanese carmakers board.
- 24:31Don Armstrong: Do that, bring him back.
- 24:35Don Armstrong: Yeah, my God, you've got to be kidding.
- 24:37Don Armstrong: Shareholders also rejected the company back nominee for director, handing management a rare rebuke amid investor concerns about the independence of the Nissan Motor Company.
- 24:48Don Armstrong: What an absolute mess that company continues to be.
- 24:52Don Armstrong: It's a shame.
- 24:53Don Armstrong: You know, these sold a billion cars.
- 24:57Don Armstrong: Where did it go wrong?
- 24:58Don Armstrong: Carlos, thank you, Carlos, who stole billions of dollars from him.
- 25:03Don Armstrong: That was the first thing.
- 25:09Don Armstrong: We're getting out of time here.
- 25:11Don Armstrong: I want to make sure that I get the stories in that I wanted to get in.
- 25:14Don Armstrong: Um, it's too long.
- 25:17Don Armstrong: We don't care about that.
- 25:20Don Armstrong: Um, let's do this one.
- 25:22Don Armstrong: Toyota, which introduced many consumers to the concept with the Prius, has made its two most popular U.S.
- 25:29Don Armstrong: models hybrid only.
- 25:30Don Armstrong: The Camry switched for the 2025 model year and the RAM 4 followed suit for 2026.
- 25:35Don Armstrong: The hot selling Ford Maverick Compact pickup offers a hybrid, as does Honda's CRV crossover.
- 25:41Don Armstrong: TVs are still expected to gain share in the coming years, just not as quickly as the hybrids.
- 25:47Don Armstrong: And get this Chevy is resuscitating its Heartbeat of America campaign in honor of the country's upcoming 250th anniversary, and it's incorporating the sound of real heartbeats to help the ads hit home.
- 26:01Don Armstrong: The brand modernized its renowned advertising campaign from the 1980s and 90s with the Red Clay Strays, a rock band from Alabama, taking over vocals from the late Motown legend Aretha Franklin.
- 26:14Don Armstrong: The brand filmed the commercial here in Texas and in Maine using a Bolt, a Trax, an Equinox, Traverse, Silverado, and other nameplates.
- 26:24Don Armstrong: So be on the lookout.
- 26:25Don Armstrong: But they brought the eye of like a rock was back in certain uh advertising too.
- 26:29Don Armstrong: Yes.
- 26:30Don Armstrong: Like a rock.
- 26:30Don Armstrong: Um Bob Seeger.
- 26:32Don Armstrong: And by the way, uh the price, average price of new cars went up another$80 this week, now averaging at$51,820 from a year ago.
- 26:41Don Armstrong: It's up now$2,221.
- 26:46Don Armstrong: Now, can that only raise the price of the used cars too are probably going up?
- 26:51Don Armstrong: Oh, everything is going up.
