- 0:03Speaker 2: What is it?
- 0:03Speaker 3: My boo on Christmas Eye.
- 0:15Speaker 1: Welcome to Girls Gone Hallmark, a Hallmark review podcast. I'm
- 0:18Speaker 1: Megan and I'm a longtime Hallmark movie fan. I'm Wendy.
- 0:21Speaker 1: I'm your former Hallmark hater. Today we're discussing Christmas Island
- 0:25Speaker 1: from Hallmarks countdown to Christmas series. We would love to
- 0:28Speaker 1: have you join us. Be our friend on Instagram. We
- 0:32Speaker 1: can be found both at Girls Gone Hallmark and Megan

- 0:41Speaker 1: You can search Girls Gone Hallmark in Facebook groups or
- 0:43Speaker 1: click our link in the show notes. Let's jump right
- 0:47Speaker 1: into Christmas Island with a synopsis. All right. When a
- 0:49Speaker 1: snowstorm diverts Kate's first private flight en route to Switzerland
- 0:55Speaker 1: to Christmas Island, she must team up with an air
- 0:58Speaker 1: traffic controller to secure her dream job as the family's pilot,
- 1:03Speaker 1: Starring Rachel Scarson and Andrew Walker. Andrew Walker plays Aliver McLeod.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Andrew needs no introduction. His eighty five acting credits include
- 1:14Speaker 1: the Curious Caterer series, last year's smash hit Three Wise
- 1:18Speaker 1: Men and a Baby, and an appearance as Hot Guy
- 1:21Speaker 1: Mike on an episode of the Big Bang Theory Season one.
- 1:24Speaker 1: Rachel Scarson plays Kate. Rachel has forty four acting credits
- 1:29Speaker 1: and cleaning roles in last year's The Royal Nanny, as
- 1:32Speaker 1: well as the character Beth Kine in the Batman's Oh
- 1:36Speaker 1: Not Batman Batwoman series That's Right. Kate Drummond plays Helen Sharp.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Helen's sixty eight acting credits are usually a bit of
- 1:43Speaker 1: a grittier fair. She had a role in Five Days
- 1:46Speaker 1: at Memorial, a mini series about a New Orleans hospital
- 1:49Speaker 1: during her and Kate Katrina. It's rather horrifying, it's a
- 1:51Speaker 1: true story. She also appeared in My Mom Made Me
- 1:55Speaker 1: Do It, Pretty Cheaters, Deadly Lies, and Secrets in a
- 1:58Speaker 1: small Town. Her face was He's so familiar to me,
- 2:01Speaker 1: and I could not place her. But I did watch
- 2:04Speaker 1: that hospital Hurricane Katrina movie series, so maybe that was it.
- 2:10Speaker 1: G Hey, how do you alert? Jefferson Brown shows up
- 2:15Speaker 1: Welcome Back, Colton Landry. He plays Thomas Sharp. Jefferson has
- 2:21Speaker 1: ninety five acting credits that include the series The Way Home,
- 2:24Speaker 1: When Hope Calls and The Good Witch. Someone tell Us
- 2:29Speaker 1: why He's not a Hallmark leading Man? Yeah, I honestly
- 2:34Speaker 1: was like, whoo, when do you come on screen? I
- 2:38Speaker 1: didn't know he was gonna be in this movie. We
- 2:40Speaker 1: have our second appearance from Peter McNeil. He plays Jim McLeod.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Peter has two hundred eight credits and we recently saw
- 2:46Speaker 1: him as the grandfather in Flipping for Christmas. His credits
- 2:49Speaker 1: are vast, but he was also in the Good Witch
- 2:51Speaker 1: series throughout its seven season run. Lauren Hammersley plays Maggie.
- 2:58Speaker 1: Lauren has only twelve acting credits, but she's made an
- 3:01Speaker 1: impression on screen. On Virgin River, she's the character Charmaine
- 3:06Speaker 1: who you both love to hate. Brittloader plays Callie Sharp.
- 3:10Speaker 1: She has four acting credits. This appears to be her
- 3:13Speaker 1: largest role yet. Christmas Island was directed by David Weaver.
- 3:17Speaker 1: His forty one acting credits include a ton of Hallmark
- 3:19Speaker 1: movies like Sweeter Than Chocolate and Lights Camera Christmas from
- 3:23Speaker 1: last year. He's also the director of the Hallmark series
- 3:27Speaker 1: Holidays that still hasn't received a release date. This is
- 3:31Speaker 1: a series that was announced last year. I assumed that
- 3:35Speaker 1: it would drop this holiday season. It's about like a
- 3:39Speaker 1: neighborhood during the holidays. It's a scripted series. Where is
- 3:43Speaker 1: it Hallmark? Maybe it just got shelved for maybe weird.
- 3:48Speaker 1: This was written by Samantha Herman. Samantha has fifteen writing credits,
- 3:52Speaker 1: including Our Italian Christmas Memories and Game of Love and
- 3:56Speaker 1: Mingle All the Way in a Fabled Holiday. Also so
- 4:00Speaker 1: Angel Falls a novel. Holiday is a dark horse of
- 4:03Speaker 1: a Gen Lily movie. I gotta say it's a good one.
- 4:06Speaker 4: I like it.
- 4:07Speaker 1: Don't lead me astray with these gen Lily movies, you
- 4:09Speaker 1: know what I feel. This movie was filmed in Halifax,
- 4:13Speaker 1: Nova Scotia during August. Christmas Island is a real place
- 4:16Speaker 1: about three and a half hours away from Halifax, but
- 4:19Speaker 1: no filming was done there. We highly recommend that you
- 4:23Speaker 1: check out the video posted by Rachel Scarsten on Instagram,
- 4:27Speaker 1: where the cast of Christmas Island recreates the iconic Backstreet
- 4:32Speaker 1: Boys music video I Want It that way.
- 4:34Speaker 4: It was amazing.
- 4:35Speaker 1: The production value is high. They clearly had studied Andrew
- 4:40Speaker 1: doing his Aja imitation.
- 4:43Speaker 4: Impressive.
- 4:44Speaker 1: It was good. I do have one more note too. Okay,
- 4:47Speaker 1: did you know that the Christmas tree they made out
- 4:53Speaker 1: of lobster traps is an actual real thing.
- 4:57Speaker 4: They do in Nova Scotia.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Did not know that, so I looked it up and
- 5:01Speaker 1: this is what I found. It has adorned with colorful booies,
- 5:04Speaker 1: twinkling lights, and evergreen bows. Towering Christmas trees fashioned out
- 5:10Speaker 1: of carefully stacked lobster traps are becoming a regular fixture
- 5:14Speaker 1: in fishing communities across Nova Scotia. The traps are then
- 5:18Speaker 1: festooned with over one hundred and eighty wooden and plastic boobies,
- 5:23Speaker 1: each painted in a unique pattern pertaining to a local
- 5:27Speaker 1: fishing boat, and most inscribed with the names of fishermen
- 5:30Speaker 1: lost at sea. Well, hey, that's how that was really nice.
- 5:35Speaker 1: I actually really liked that part of the movie me too,
- 5:37Speaker 1: And just to know that it's real, it's cool that
- 5:41Speaker 1: they like wove it into the story. Agree, I liked
- 5:44Speaker 1: it as well. Are you ready for a first impression?
- 5:46Speaker 1: I am mine is Palmark does Come from Away? Is
- 5:50Speaker 1: that a reference?
- 5:51Speaker 4: You understand?
- 5:52Speaker 1: I know the musical, I've never seen it. So Come
- 5:57Speaker 1: from Away is a musical about the town of Gander
- 6:01Speaker 1: where a number of planes were diverted on September eleventh,
- 6:04Speaker 1: That is in Canada, very small town, tiny little airport,
- 6:09Speaker 1: and all these planes were diverted there, and it's the
- 6:11Speaker 1: story of how the town rallied around these thousands of
- 6:14Speaker 1: people that were diverted there to support them while they
- 6:17Speaker 1: were displaced. We're far enough out from September eleventh that
- 6:21Speaker 1: I feel like the feelings of that day aren't as
- 6:26Speaker 1: at the forefront. And so when you watch and there's
- 6:29Speaker 1: they held them on the planes for hours because nobody
- 6:32Speaker 1: really knew it was happening, and then was some distrust
- 6:35Speaker 1: going on, and then there were people who found out
- 6:38Speaker 1: that they had lost people. It's a first of all,
- 6:42Speaker 1: it's a one act play.
- 6:45Speaker 4: There's no intermission.
- 6:47Speaker 1: The characters, the cast all play multiple characters, and they're
- 6:50Speaker 1: all on stage the entire time. It's also the stage
- 6:54Speaker 1: show has been filmed and is available to stream.
- 6:58Speaker 4: Oh maybe, so there's also as well. Maybe I'll watch that.
- 7:02Speaker 1: So my first impression is not gonna make any sense,
- 7:05Speaker 1: And I'm gonna tell you why, because this episode drops
- 7:08Speaker 1: on November sixteen, and are the Santa Summit review drops
- 7:13Speaker 1: next week and we already recorded that one. So it
- 7:18Speaker 1: might make sense to Megan, but I'm gonna throw it
- 7:20Speaker 1: here anyway. It's nice to see people like me represented
- 7:22Speaker 1: in Christmas movies. I am Kate. I yes, so I
- 7:26Speaker 1: did watch these movies in Santa Summit first, Christmas Island second.
- 7:30Speaker 1: That's how they were released, that's how we recorded them.
- 7:33Speaker 1: You guys are getting them out of order. And that's
- 7:36Speaker 1: funny that you said that, because after care you saying
- 7:39Speaker 1: that last week, next week, I had the same thoughts
- 7:46Speaker 1: about that. All right, let's talk what we liked about
- 7:48Speaker 1: Christmas Island. I really enjoyed this movie for several reasons.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Do you want to hear what they are?
- 7:58Speaker 4: I do.
- 7:58Speaker 1: The first one is it's refreshing to see a strong,
- 8:02Speaker 1: capable female as our protagonist in this movie. She doesn't
- 8:07Speaker 1: need anyone to hold her hand. She doesn't need anyone
- 8:10Speaker 1: to bail her out of trouble. The only thing standing
- 8:12Speaker 1: in her way is the weather, which I have thoughts on,
- 8:17Speaker 1: and I know a lot of people on the internet
- 8:19Speaker 1: did as well. I the lack thereof Yeah. I love
- 8:23Speaker 1: Rachel Scarson. I of course she was in The Royal Nanny.
- 8:26Speaker 1: I can't remember if I like that movie. I think
- 8:29Speaker 1: it was okay. It was like a weird glad Hallwark
- 8:33Speaker 1: tried something right. I had some sweet moments. Dan Janot
- 8:37Speaker 1: is in it. That was nice. It was not like
- 8:41Speaker 1: a runaway hit for me. Okay, so I remember her.
- 8:45Speaker 1: She's striking. They kind of Her character was kind of
- 8:48Speaker 1: almost the same, very kind of stoic at first. Yeah,
- 8:51Speaker 1: but then she really loosened Debt, not really loosened det
- 8:54Speaker 1: but like, yeah, exactly. I just like her.
- 8:59Speaker 4: Put her in more movies.
- 9:01Speaker 1: Yeah, she was great. I actually really liked the pairing
- 9:04Speaker 1: of her and Andrew Walker a lot. I just kept
- 9:06Speaker 1: looking at them on screen and I was like, oh,
- 9:08Speaker 1: this is.
- 9:08Speaker 4: A good match.
- 9:09Speaker 1: Yeah, I think so too. Andrew Walker is a delight.
- 9:12Speaker 4: In this movie.
- 9:12Speaker 1: I agree. He's just so goofy and silly and fun,
- 9:15Speaker 1: and I feel like he took the character and ran
- 9:17Speaker 1: with it. I loved his.
- 9:19Speaker 4: Tyler Hines' homage with the candy cane in the.
- 9:22Speaker 1: Corners so funny because when that did come up on
- 9:25Speaker 1: screen and he had this candy cane in his mouth,
- 9:27Speaker 1: I was like, hm, close but not quite. Well. He
- 9:29Speaker 1: posted a video. I don't know if you saw it,
- 9:31Speaker 1: think so that it was very intentional. It's like side
- 9:34Speaker 1: by side shots of him in this movie and Tyler
- 9:36Speaker 1: and three Wise Men. He knows what he's doing. It
- 9:39Speaker 1: was definitely an intentional moment. We've talked about Tyler and Andrew,
- 9:44Speaker 1: you know, as these Hallmark leading men, and I think
- 9:47Speaker 1: they're very different. I don't think they're in competition with
- 9:50Speaker 1: each other because they're very different.
- 9:53Speaker 4: Both very attractive. But Tyler Hines gets.
- 9:56Speaker 1: This like hot guy edit where Andrew Walker gets like
- 9:59Speaker 1: the sweet boy next door edit. And I think Andrew's
- 10:05Speaker 1: take on that as like a sillier way of doing things,
- 10:08Speaker 1: you know, when he shows up as bell'snickel, which was
- 10:11Speaker 1: completely ridiculous but very charming. Yeah. I have a note
- 10:14Speaker 1: about that too. I just thought the way he and
- 10:17Speaker 1: his family showed up for this other family and gave
- 10:21Speaker 1: them this experience. Nobody wanted to be stranded there. This
- 10:23Speaker 1: isn't where they wanted to be, and they really kind
- 10:26Speaker 1: of put their lives on hold and brought them in
- 10:30Speaker 1: to their world. Yeah. I thought this was very sweet,
- 10:33Speaker 1: and he didn't. Rachel Scarston kind of does that thing
- 10:37Speaker 1: that I don't love where she's mean a little bit. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 10:40Speaker 1: And I understand that her character was frustrated and she
- 10:43Speaker 1: wanted to make a good impression and she was at
- 10:46Speaker 1: the mercy of the weather, which she couldn't do anything
- 10:48Speaker 1: about and so she was.
- 10:51Speaker 4: Tough and he stayed steady and strong, and.
- 10:54Speaker 1: Well, it's like this, like you know, the sharps the
- 10:57Speaker 1: mom it was indicated that she was pissed at the
- 11:01Speaker 1: pilot for the weather, which is not the pilot's fault.
- 11:05Speaker 1: And then it's like Kate, the pilot is mad at
- 11:10Speaker 1: Andrew that's not his name in the movie, because he
- 11:13Speaker 1: made the decision that he had to ground those planes,
- 11:15Speaker 1: you know what I mean. So it's like they were
- 11:18Speaker 1: what's the word I'm looking for, like misplace the bugger? Yeah, well,
- 11:21Speaker 1: and I get that, right. You're in a situation you
- 11:23Speaker 1: can't do anything about it. You want to blame something,
- 11:25Speaker 1: you want it to be somebody's fault. You want a solution.
- 11:28Speaker 1: There isn't one. So the next best thing is like
- 11:30Speaker 1: I'm gonna met at you. Yeah, there's nothing I can
- 11:32Speaker 1: do to fix this. I'm smart, I'm strong, I'm capable,
- 11:35Speaker 1: and I can't do anything in this situation. But I
- 11:38Speaker 1: thought it was great that his character just kept like
- 11:41Speaker 1: Oliver is like strong and steady and sweet, even in
- 11:44Speaker 1: the face of her being kind of nasty sometimes nasty
- 11:48Speaker 1: sent At first, you know, I thought he really redeemed
- 11:51Speaker 1: himself after last last year's dismal three wise men. I'm joking.
- 11:57Speaker 4: I thought you were going to say something else.
- 11:58Speaker 1: I'm joking the map that was dismal. I did find
- 12:01Speaker 1: him charming, and I thought he was sweeter than usual
- 12:06Speaker 1: with the kids in the movie. Yeah, when he dressed
- 12:11Speaker 1: up as Bell's nickel, I laughed. I thought that was
- 12:15Speaker 1: so funny, kind of creepy and weird, but like charming,
- 12:18Speaker 1: like you said, like it was. I thought this was
- 12:20Speaker 1: a good movie for him. Speaking of the kids, A
- 12:23Speaker 1: Lincoln McNeil plays Finn. This little boy is so adorable.
- 12:26Speaker 1: Kate and Finn are having a cute exchange when they're
- 12:30Speaker 1: making candy and she's like, I don't know, maybe someday
- 12:34Speaker 1: you're gonna be flying the plane. He's like, I am
- 12:35Speaker 1: growing up pretty fast. Just the delivery of that line
- 12:38Speaker 1: was very sweet. Just a cute little boy. I thought
- 12:41Speaker 1: him was a cute little boy. No, I didn't hate
- 12:42Speaker 1: the kids in this movie either. I thought, what movie
- 12:46Speaker 1: did we just talk about? Oh, Mystery on Mistletoe Lane,
- 12:48Speaker 1: And I was like, Oh, they nailed the teenager in
- 12:50Speaker 1: that movie. Well, they really nailed the teenager in this movie. Like,
- 12:53Speaker 1: that was my fifteen year old on screen. She was spectacular.
- 12:58Speaker 1: I don't know where to put this on a time
- 13:00Speaker 1: talk about it here. The number of times she makes like, oh,
- 13:03Speaker 1: we have people to do that for us reference, I know,
- 13:05Speaker 1: I was like, whoa girl. Yeah. When Jim says like, oh,
- 13:11Speaker 1: you're going to come help me out at the post office,
- 13:12Speaker 1: She's like, no, I'm not. I'm on winter break. I
- 13:14Speaker 1: need to decompress for my school year. And my husband goes,
- 13:18Speaker 1: did she just say no to that adult asking her
- 13:21Speaker 1: for help that she's staying in his home? But I
- 13:24Speaker 1: thought that is the entitled attitude of a teenager. Oh
- 13:28Speaker 1: my god, it certainly is. Case in point, I had
- 13:32Speaker 1: to drive my son to school this morning. My son
- 13:34Speaker 1: has a car and drives, but his car's being serviced,
- 13:37Speaker 1: and he did not like that he had to be
- 13:39Speaker 1: on my schedule this morning and said, how come I
- 13:42Speaker 1: can't just drive my car and you come pick it
- 13:45Speaker 1: up and leave me your car, as if my being
- 13:48Speaker 1: inconvenience was less important than his being if you're here
- 13:52Speaker 1: to serve him, right, feels like I just don't want
- 13:56Speaker 1: to be on your schedule today. And I thought that's
- 13:57Speaker 1: weird because I've been on your schedule for the past
- 13:59Speaker 1: sixty years. Yes, I understand. My own fifteen year old
- 14:04Speaker 1: gave me a lot of lip last night when I
- 14:05Speaker 1: asked her to feed the dogs and she said no
- 14:08Speaker 1: and said no, She's like, I'm doing something right now.
- 14:12Speaker 1: It did not go over a well you want to
- 14:15Speaker 1: see my head pop off?
- 14:16Speaker 3: Ooo.
- 14:18Speaker 1: Loved that we got Jefferson Brown. I was so pleasantly
- 14:21Speaker 1: surprised when he came on screen. I texted Meghan, look
- 14:24Speaker 1: who we got. Why is he not a leading man
- 14:27Speaker 1: in these movies? I mean, he's never really Andrew Walker
- 14:30Speaker 1: in this movie. Actually, I feel like, how old is he?
- 14:33Speaker 1: I feel like he could have played Andrew Walker in
- 14:35Speaker 1: this movie. He has a real timeless look about it.
- 14:38Speaker 1: I think so too. I want to say how old
- 14:40Speaker 1: he is? I think he's my age, maybe as are
- 14:42Speaker 1: a lot of our leading ladies, like forty seven years old.
- 14:46Speaker 1: Oh yeah, Andrew's got to be in his forties do anything? Yeah,
- 14:49Speaker 1: forty four?
- 14:50Speaker 4: Okay, he's my age.
- 14:51Speaker 1: I don't know why Jefferson Brown, Well, he's not playing
- 14:53Speaker 1: a grandpa. I mean, he's playing the father of like
- 14:56Speaker 1: two teens, well not even teenagers. One teenager anyway, put
- 15:00Speaker 1: this guy in like a sexy single role. He certainly
- 15:05Speaker 1: does not need to be playing like husband to Dell
- 15:08Speaker 1: on the way home. I know, we get him in flashback.
- 15:13Speaker 1: I'm getting I'm getting weird looks. Well, I think what's
- 15:17Speaker 1: interesting about that? As I just said, he's yeah, we
- 15:20Speaker 1: get him in flashback. He's playing a younger guy on
- 15:23Speaker 1: that show, even though Dell is grand but younger he's
- 15:29Speaker 1: dad of two little kids. Yeah, I know, Okay, I'll
- 15:32Speaker 1: shut up now. Peter McNeil and flipping for Christmas. Yeah,
- 15:35Speaker 1: I totally forgot that he was that same, that same guy.
- 15:38Speaker 1: I thought he was so warm when he was like
- 15:40Speaker 1: at the post office and explaining, like when he gives
- 15:42Speaker 1: the whole like wink and a nod to like what
- 15:45Speaker 1: they're doing there without like specifically, it's just so sweet. Yeah,
- 15:53Speaker 1: it was sweet. And that he didn't pop off at
- 15:57Speaker 1: CALLI when she's like, no, I can't do that job.
- 16:00Speaker 3: Don't know.
- 16:00Speaker 1: I think when you get to a certain age, you
- 16:02Speaker 1: have like a lot of patients like talk to me
- 16:04Speaker 1: when your husband is a grandfather. I bet he wouldn't
- 16:09Speaker 1: pop off. I love the stars Hollow style town meeting
- 16:11Speaker 1: that we got at the beginning, did you. I thought
- 16:13Speaker 1: that was funny, although why they all had to stop
- 16:15Speaker 1: and go to it was a little silly, But I
- 16:18Speaker 1: just I liked it. Yeah, there was no reason for
- 16:20Speaker 1: the Sharp family to be there, no other than their
- 16:24Speaker 1: rides felt what they needed to do it to me exactly,
- 16:26Speaker 1: and speaking of I really enjoyed like the stark difference
- 16:29Speaker 1: between the Sharp family and like everybody else on Christmas Island.
- 16:33Speaker 1: And in the end, I loved how like the whole
- 16:35Speaker 1: the family, like they all come to this realization of
- 16:38Speaker 1: like all the things that they've been missing and like
- 16:40Speaker 1: what's important to them or what should be important to them?
- 16:44Speaker 1: It was a nice I liked it. Me too, I
- 16:47Speaker 1: liked it. I noticed I watched it with subtitles, and
- 16:49Speaker 1: it was whoever was doing like the trash describing of
- 16:54Speaker 1: the captions, It was always Sharp's apostrophe s, like when
- 16:59Speaker 1: they were like, oh I need to take it.
- 17:02Speaker 4: Just drive me crazy, drive me crazy, drive me crazy.
- 17:05Speaker 1: Do you know what I mean? It should have just
- 17:06Speaker 1: been Sharp's saha arps. Yes, the sharps, the showing the sharps,
- 17:11Speaker 1: the tree lighting exactly. One more thing and this is
- 17:14Speaker 1: this hearkens back to my first impression. The scene that
- 17:18Speaker 1: really spoke to me was Kate's explanation of why she
- 17:22Speaker 1: doesn't love the holidays, and I thought, this totally sums
- 17:26Speaker 1: me up. So what she does is she tells Oliver
- 17:28Speaker 1: that her dad dies the day before Christmas. And what
- 17:32Speaker 1: she says, well, it kind of colored my holiday memories.
- 17:37Speaker 1: And I thought, oh my god, like that's exactly why
- 17:42Speaker 1: I don't love the holidays because I have my own
- 17:45Speaker 1: like personal like sure stuff right, and it happened around
- 17:49Speaker 1: the holidays, and I think that's like a stigma that
- 17:53Speaker 1: I bring in to it every year. So it was
- 17:55Speaker 1: nice to see like characters in a fictional movie, yes,
- 18:00Speaker 1: that like deal with the same things. Yes, God, it
- 18:03Speaker 1: was nice. I appreciate that these writers are giving us
- 18:05Speaker 1: kind of like diverse characters. Ye not everybody has to
- 18:10Speaker 1: embrace it. I don't know. Anyway, I liked it.
- 18:13Speaker 4: What did you wish for?
- 18:14Speaker 1: I was kind of hoping for a young adult romance
- 18:17Speaker 1: between Callie and Oliver's nephew.
- 18:19Speaker 3: Me too.
- 18:20Speaker 1: I wanted that to go a little farther. Yeah, and
- 18:23Speaker 1: then I thought, I'm like, is that weird? But then no,
- 18:25Speaker 1: they didn't need a kiss but like a hand holding moment,
- 18:29Speaker 1: like give eyes to each other or something. Yeah, like
- 18:31Speaker 1: staring at the tree together. I didn't even talk to
- 18:34Speaker 1: each other. And when I saw him, I was like, oh,
- 18:36Speaker 1: wait a minute. They're in the same age. Well, and
- 18:38Speaker 1: they have an awkward conversation where they like introduce themselves,
- 18:42Speaker 1: where she says like CALLI and he goes CALLI and
- 18:45Speaker 1: she's like, yeah, it's a weird name. And I was like,
- 18:47Speaker 1: first of all, that's not a weird name, not even
- 18:49Speaker 1: but that wasn't fully realized. I agree. How do we
- 18:53Speaker 1: handle look.
- 18:56Speaker 4: Small children alert?
- 18:58Speaker 1: I'm gonna give you three seconds, okay, how do we
- 19:01Speaker 1: handle the Santa conversation more delicately? Because I thought he
- 19:04Speaker 1: did a nice job who Jim okay in the post office? Yeah,
- 19:08Speaker 1: it explains his role there. To Kelly, this is hard
- 19:11Speaker 1: because these are family movies, like it would not be
- 19:14Speaker 1: that unusual for you to watch a movie with your
- 19:16Speaker 1: small children, and like the jig is up. They're like,
- 19:20Speaker 1: I got a letter from Santa and you wrote it.
- 19:23Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't.
- 19:24Speaker 1: At first it seemed like they were kind of keeping
- 19:26Speaker 1: it under wraps, but this the parents write the letters. Yeah,
- 19:31Speaker 1: you're right, and I So it's complicated, because how do
- 19:37Speaker 1: you explain what he does there without explaining what he
- 19:40Speaker 1: does there?
- 19:42Speaker 4: I don't know. I don't know.
- 19:44Speaker 1: And then it's so funny they keep it the secret
- 19:46Speaker 1: from him, but then Finn.
- 19:46Speaker 4: Comes in and helps them.
- 19:48Speaker 1: Yeah, that didn't make any sense. But I cried when
- 19:51Speaker 1: she read his letter. Yes, I mean, just so happy
- 19:55Speaker 1: to find his letter.
- 19:56Speaker 4: I know.
- 19:56Speaker 1: I thought that was very sweet. I thought that was
- 19:58Speaker 1: a touching moment. Ohing, God.
- 20:00Speaker 4: That made me sad. I do love you.
- 20:02Speaker 1: That made me sad. I hated how much of a
- 20:05Speaker 1: jerk Kate's co pilot was to her at first, Like
- 20:09Speaker 1: was that necessary? Oh?
- 20:10Speaker 4: Why?
- 20:11Speaker 1: Like why are you being not even gonna talk to you? Yeah,
- 20:15Speaker 1: I can't answer a question. I don't get it. I
- 20:17Speaker 1: don't get it. Also, what I wish for? Let's talk
- 20:20Speaker 1: about the weather? Oh my, there isn't it. There were
- 20:25Speaker 1: days it was like sunny out. Yeah. Now they did say,
- 20:30Speaker 1: like weather over the Atlantic. Yes, are we to assume that,
- 20:36Speaker 1: like there's like the storm of the century happening over
- 20:39Speaker 1: the Atlantic that is having no effect on Nova Scotia
- 20:43Speaker 1: at all?
- 20:44Speaker 3: You know?
- 20:45Speaker 1: Yeah? Yeah, I guess that's because my husband was like
- 20:49Speaker 1: it's sunny outside, but they keep talking about this big storm,
- 20:52Speaker 1: and so I was like, well, maybe they just can't fly.
- 20:55Speaker 4: Into the weather.
- 20:56Speaker 1: Yeah. I don't know, but there were moments where they'd
- 20:59Speaker 1: be inside and you'd hear like the wind howling, or
- 21:02Speaker 1: they'd be like you California kids got to bundle up.
- 21:04Speaker 1: And I understand it can be cold and sunny, but
- 21:07Speaker 1: they did make it seem like they were living through
- 21:10Speaker 1: harsh winter conditions right when they were not. Do planes
- 21:14Speaker 1: normally get grounded for like days at a time because
- 21:17Speaker 1: of weather days, I don't know, but there's definitely like
- 21:20Speaker 1: big backlogs during the holidays, so there's a big storm
- 21:23Speaker 1: and then you know you gotta catch up. But I
- 21:25Speaker 1: think three that's a long time for planes to get grounded.
- 21:28Speaker 1: So I, from what I read like a lot of
- 21:31Speaker 1: people were having a hard time like letting that go. Well,
- 21:35Speaker 1: it's such a major plot point. She keeps checking the
- 21:38Speaker 1: weather and checking in with her co pilot and talking
- 21:41Speaker 1: to Andrew. Mm hmmm, Andrew. So it is hard when
- 21:48Speaker 1: you've got a major plot point and not a minor
- 21:51Speaker 1: throwaway one. It's not one case of foamy snow, it's
- 21:56Speaker 1: it's the storm of the century and we can't take off,
- 21:58Speaker 1: and yet we're not. Can't they do something in post
- 22:02Speaker 1: production to like, I mean that God, to make it
- 22:06Speaker 1: look like there's weather. I mean big, big, big fans
- 22:10Speaker 1: blowing their hair, so make the sky's gray, not like
- 22:13Speaker 1: clear blue skies. I mean, look, I am not trashing
- 22:19Speaker 1: this movie. I really enjoyed this movie. I thought it
- 22:22Speaker 1: was one of the best of the season. Really, yes,
- 22:26Speaker 1: is that weird? Nothing's weird. I'm just surprised I liked it.
- 22:31Speaker 1: I saw other people say to you, like, oh, this
- 22:33Speaker 1: seems like an older Hallmark movie. I agree with that,
- 22:36Speaker 1: really a bad way. It felt very classically hallmarked to me,
- 22:39Speaker 1: in a good, warm, Hallmark movie kind of way.
- 22:43Speaker 4: Got it, Got it?
- 22:45Speaker 1: Got it? Are you ready to move on to Did
- 22:47Speaker 1: you see that? Sure?
- 22:50Speaker 4: I have a couple.
- 22:51Speaker 1: Would you ever stay in someone's home and call downstairs
- 22:57Speaker 1: and ask them to send up some coffee?
- 23:00Speaker 2: Ever?
- 23:01Speaker 1: I cannot imagine being in a position where I'm staying
- 23:05Speaker 1: in someone's home as their guest, not a being. Literally
- 23:08Speaker 1: someone has given you their guest room. It blew my mind, like,
- 23:11Speaker 1: how out of touch are you? And Kelly goes to
- 23:13Speaker 1: my mom disorder room service, which I thought was a
- 23:15Speaker 1: funny line. Yeah, but there were moments and I thought, are.
- 23:19Speaker 4: They really this out of touch?
- 23:21Speaker 1: I mean, she turns around pretty quickly, the mom Well,
- 23:26Speaker 1: and what's funny to me is she tells the pilot like,
- 23:28Speaker 1: now you're responsible for Christmas, Like, our nanny's not here,
- 23:30Speaker 1: so you need to make Christmas magic for our children.
- 23:33Speaker 1: But would you if you were at the pilot, let's say,
- 23:39Speaker 1: and you really wanted this job to become like their
- 23:42Speaker 1: full time private pilot, which also blows my mind. And
- 23:48Speaker 1: the the woman says, you need to make Christmas for
- 23:55Speaker 1: my family now, Like, wouldn't you be like, uh no,
- 23:57Speaker 1: that's not my job. My job is to tend to
- 24:03Speaker 1: the jet that's out there.
- 24:05Speaker 4: Yeah, she really wanted the job.
- 24:07Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't think she wanted to be
- 24:10Speaker 1: responsible for that. But I think we saw how much
- 24:13Speaker 1: responsibility she was taking for the plane being grounded, even
- 24:17Speaker 1: though there was nothing she could do. Right, can you
- 24:20Speaker 1: bring me up a cup of coffee? No, get your
- 24:22Speaker 1: lazy butt out of bed, there's coffee in the kitchen, lady. Yeah, seriously,
- 24:26Speaker 1: she needed to be woken up a little bit. I
- 24:29Speaker 1: think when they're first boarding the jet, the sharps have
- 24:34Speaker 1: a ton of matching luggage, a ton of it. And
- 24:37Speaker 1: maybe you remember the scene Kate. The pilot goes, oh,
- 24:40Speaker 1: who's going to bring that on? And she goes, oh, wait,
- 24:41Speaker 1: that's us, right, a ton and that's all it is,
- 24:44Speaker 1: but a ton of matching cream colored luggage. Then when
- 24:47Speaker 1: they're leaving the Christmas Island home that they're at, uh huh,
- 24:51Speaker 1: they have like these little mismatched black harry On bags,
- 24:55Speaker 1: Like where did those come from?
- 24:56Speaker 4: Oh? Yeah, you know.
- 24:58Speaker 1: I also think on a transatlantic flight, a private flight,
- 25:02Speaker 1: they would have flight crew. Oh that's my other note.
- 25:06Speaker 1: When is the pilot serving hot cocoa? You know, they
- 25:09Speaker 1: have a flight crew. If you're on a private plane,
- 25:11Speaker 1: there is a flight crew because the pilot and the
- 25:13Speaker 1: co pilot cannot be responsible. Maybe if you're doing short
- 25:17Speaker 1: haul flights, like you've just got a pilot, you're flying
- 25:19Speaker 1: for like LA to San Francisco, right like one or
- 25:22Speaker 1: two hours, you don't there's no meal service. They might
- 25:24Speaker 1: just have like a mini bar situation. But trans atlantic,
- 25:28Speaker 1: where these people are going to need a meal service
- 25:30Speaker 1: and cocktails served, that's not the role of the pilot.
- 25:34Speaker 1: I think it plays more on like all the pressure
- 25:36Speaker 1: that was put on too Kate in her role to
- 25:40Speaker 1: cater to these people, because had there been and flight
- 25:45Speaker 1: attendant on this flight, then that person would have been
- 25:47Speaker 1: a third person in the mix to maybe help, Like
- 25:50Speaker 1: it would maybe make more sense for that person to
- 25:52Speaker 1: be tasked for holiday activities. Yeah, and poor co pilot
- 25:56Speaker 1: just gets left in the airport for days. I don't
- 25:58Speaker 1: I'm just gonna watch the weather. What with your eyes?
- 26:03Speaker 1: Can I have to warm the jet up if they
- 26:05Speaker 1: get like the okay, de ice it. He's not doing
- 26:08Speaker 1: the de icing himself. He's sleeping in the plane. No, no, no, no, no.
- 26:12Speaker 1: They have a bunk room. He's like, I'm gonna bunk
- 26:15Speaker 1: at the airport. So, which makes sense to me that
- 26:17Speaker 1: they would have a bunk room because flights get grounded,
- 26:20Speaker 1: people need to be on call. That's not that unusual
- 26:22Speaker 1: to me, and I guess given that there was nowhere
- 26:25Speaker 1: for him to stay, I just think it's so funny
- 26:26Speaker 1: he's in this closed small with what's he eating?
- 26:29Speaker 4: No idea.
- 26:30Speaker 1: It's not like they got a Starbucks open. Yeah.
- 26:33Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 26:34Speaker 1: I don't know. The last thing I have is one
- 26:37Speaker 1: that you mentioned to me off air. Oliver has a
- 26:40Speaker 1: flip phone. I loved when he goes to take a
- 26:43Speaker 1: picture of her with a flip phone, I thought, well,
- 26:44Speaker 1: that's not going to be a good picture. Do you
- 26:46Speaker 1: remember flip phone photo? They certainly weren't a high quality
- 26:49Speaker 1: that you could print. Terrible, terrible. Yeah, I loved it.
- 26:53Speaker 4: Where did they dig up a flip phone?
- 26:54Speaker 1: I don't And why, like there was no backstory on
- 26:57Speaker 1: like why he had a flip phone me. He's just
- 26:59Speaker 1: I know, I think it just lends to his like
- 27:02Speaker 1: no frills lifestyle. He certainly can't check the weather with
- 27:04Speaker 1: that flip phone. Okay, how are these two gonna make
- 27:08Speaker 1: things work? Are they just gonna like, is this just
- 27:10Speaker 1: gonna be a Christmas fling? And then she's gonna be
- 27:12Speaker 1: off because she's jet setting all over for this family
- 27:15Speaker 1: that lives in LA and he lives on Christmas Island
- 27:18Speaker 1: and doesn't like to fly. Well, she can get to him,
- 27:21Speaker 1: so she's just gonna pop in when she's not on call.
- 27:24Speaker 1: Their romance doesn't work, no, because at the very beginning,
- 27:28Speaker 1: she's doing the interview and they're like, you need to
- 27:29Speaker 1: be on call at the drop of the hat. She
- 27:31Speaker 1: can't be across the country when the sharp's what she's
- 27:34Speaker 1: gonna fly their plane? Like to visit him? Can I
- 27:36Speaker 1: borrow the PJ? I need to visit my boo on
- 27:41Speaker 1: Christmas Island doesn't like to fly. I got the sounds
- 27:49Speaker 1: he was gonna try to get over that. I did too,
- 27:52Speaker 1: But his life is on Christmas Island and hers is
- 27:56Speaker 1: like she's very much like I'm not tied down, and
- 27:58Speaker 1: that doesn't change at the I mean, I think air
- 28:03Speaker 1: traffic controllers are in high demand. He could move to
- 28:06Speaker 1: LA and do that job. Yeah. Yeah, that's a weird
- 28:10Speaker 1: job for him to have because air traffic controllers is
- 28:13Speaker 1: a very stressful job. They age out of it very early.
- 28:16Speaker 1: It has a very high rate of some very bad things.
- 28:19Speaker 1: And he's such like a laid back dude with his
- 28:22Speaker 1: reindeer antlers on that I just think I understand. He's like, Oh,
- 28:26Speaker 1: it helped me be in proximity to it without actually
- 28:28Speaker 1: participating anyway. Oh boy, would you rate this movie four
- 28:33Speaker 1: point seventy five star stars? What three stars are real
- 28:38Speaker 1: middle of the road enjoyable movie that I really loved
- 28:41Speaker 1: this movie. I'm so glad you did. It was the message, guys,
- 28:45Speaker 1: it was the messaging. Yeah, you saw yourself in Kate. Yeah,
- 28:49Speaker 1: that's why I'm granted. I'm maybe people see themselves in
- 28:54Speaker 1: Jin Lily and Mingle all the way, and that's why
- 28:55Speaker 1: they love that one so much. I'm sure that's why
- 28:57Speaker 1: people love them that much.
- 28:59Speaker 3: Love.
- 29:00Speaker 1: I think it was one of the best of the season.
