- 5:16I saw what you did with those authors in your podcast commercials. Can
- 5:20you put me on and I will so guess what you guys. She is
- 5:26here, Hey missus, lady, Hi, how are you? I'm good?
- 5:31You know this this internet trying and stream y'all trying to hold us back.
- 5:35But you know we're gonna make but we're gonna make it. We're gonna
- 5:39make you do. So first question I want to know, and everybody else
- 5:45wants to know. Tell us a little about you. Okay, I'm really
- 5:49normal. I work every day. I'm a wife. I'm a mom.
- 5:56I have six kids in total. We're a blended family. Not no,
- 6:00no, I ain't bird called six and not cold here you had me you
- 6:05hand me quick. No no, no, no no, We're a blended
- 6:09family. So I like to call it for Black Brady Bunch. I had
- 6:12three girls. He had three boys. Here's the story. I'm serious yet,
- 6:20So he hasd three boys. I have three girls who have six in
- 6:24total. So I'm a mom of six. I work as a student services
- 6:29coordinator and an instructor on my off time. But I've always loved writing and
- 6:34I've always loved reading. So when I got the opportunity, it just kind
- 6:39of snowballed and worked and I'm here. That is awesome, she said a
- 6:44black Brady munch. Yeah, it's cool. And I have to look at
- 6:48that back in days and it's always a marshal. Oh, you know you
- 7:00said you started writing? What true you to writing? What true you to
- 7:05reading? What about it? Like? For me, it takes me to
- 7:09a whole other world, Like I read street fiction that I am so in
- 7:15the street, so what about you? So so for me it started really
- 7:19young before now we have this beautiful movement of black authors creating black content for
- 7:27black children. I grew I grew up in the eighties and the nineties.
- 7:32I wasn't a thing then so I but I had very strict parents, like
- 7:38reading was non negotiable. You were going to read. So I had all
- 7:43of the Sweet Valley Twins books, and I remember just being really frustrated because
- 7:49Elizabeth and Jessica were arguing about a horse and where my horses. Way I
- 7:55was at, we didn't have horses in the hood. So my mom was
- 8:01like you know, well you need to go read something. And I was,
- 8:03you know, with mommy, I really don't want to read these books
- 8:07anymore, Like it's not sparking interest in me. They don't have the same
- 8:11things going on in their neighborhood. And she said, well, you need
- 8:13to write something, because the point was I wasn't going outside. So I
- 8:20sat down and I wrote my first little story. I got my little paper
- 8:24together and wrote my first little story. And and so I would write primarily
- 8:28just for me until about the seventh eighth grade. Ninth grade, I had
- 8:35a friend, so what are you doing now? Y'all was over there with
- 8:37the rebuilding, So I let them read something, and before you know,
- 8:43before I knew it, that kind of snowballed into oh my god, did
- 8:45you finish that story yet? I want to read that. So that's where
- 8:50it kind of grew. And then I did that for a little bit.
- 8:52I wrote from my high school paper. I went to college kind of you
- 8:56know, dropped off the read the writing portion of my life for a minute.
- 9:00It wasn't until I met my second husband and he was like, there's
- 9:03a book in you and I'm like, no, there's not. That's a
- 9:07long time ago. He was like, no, there's a book in you.
- 9:11So I wound up just kind of reading more. A lot of a
- 9:16lot had changed, you know, from when I first started. I think
- 9:20my first book was called Teenage Gangsters. You got a copy there? Yeah,
- 9:26no, I mean it's something, it's somewhere. It's probably not even
- 9:33relevant now. I was. It was. I was so young. But
- 9:39that's where it kind of snowball from it. You know, things have changed.
- 9:41I've grown and changed a little bit since that time, but that's where
- 9:43it started from. Literally my mom saying, you're not going outside. You
- 9:48need right and you know what. And I would like to tell your mother
- 9:52thank you, because I work at a public library and haven't working for eighteen
- 9:56years, and I have to admit the the diversity that is coming through is
- 10:03totally awesome. I can I have an eighteen year old son and I have
- 10:09an eight year old daughter now well eighteen trees. That was a couple of
- 10:13years ago. He's about to be twenty one in December. Feel old.
- 10:20He's getting over. You're not getting over. That's not how it works,
- 10:24you know. I'm gonna use that one. I can remember getting books from
- 10:28him at the library and not being able to find children of color. And
- 10:31I'm not even saying African American, but Hispanics or any other type Asian eden,
- 10:39I was never able to find him. It was always Timmy with a
- 10:41dog. Well, yes, we don't know nobody named Timmy and we got
- 10:46a dog around here. But with my daughter, it is so many books,
- 10:52even a book about her favorite book is called hair Loove. And I
- 10:56don't know how many times we have looked at that little video and the diversity.
- 11:01So I want to thank you for giving these kids or yourself an opportunity
- 11:09to have that experience. It is totally awesome and I am I am all
- 11:16here for and no, let me look at the camera say this. No,
- 11:22I do not and am not a racist. I just love the movement
- 11:28of African American authors and books because we are not just shaking our butts and
- 11:37listening to music. Okay, thank you, yes, say over so.
- 11:41And like you said, it's not living it to just us either. There
- 11:46are when I would taught public school, there are there's a series of books
- 11:50about a little Chinese American girl and I thought it was so amazing because I
- 11:54had little Chinese American girls in my classroom, and they needed that. Representation
- 12:00is important across the board, not only for us and for people of that
- 12:05people are bad, are minorities, but for other people. Just like I
- 12:07was reading Sweet while its twins, bek, he needs to read about Jeroman
- 12:13and Koree. Okay, children, she needs to read the heat. You
- 12:18give the book, do not band the book because it scares you PC including
- 12:30shout out to my library. So I'm in a whole different story. Yeah,
- 12:39I'm a pipe right, I'm sorry, I'm so sorry. And then
- 12:45what is it Texas or Chicago? They are now closing down their libraries and
- 12:50making them behaveeful sinners. But all about that, don't don't get me started
- 12:56on that, because a whole another meeting. That's whole another conversation. I
- 13:01don't know how many kids I have come to me, and especially of color,
- 13:05saying, you got a library, you put up the books. No,
- 13:09I don't put up the books. I help you find your book.
- 13:11Boo, I'm gonna help you find that book. I'm gonna help you find
- 13:16it. But okay, back to what I was saying, I drop my
- 13:18phone, got too excited carrying the cross. So that title was enough for
- 13:28me. The cover is beautiful. Thank you, shout out sis. She's
- 13:35my cover designer. She's amazing. I won't go anywhere else. Freak good
- 13:43and her information so we can get you some more clients because that cover.
- 13:48I when I was coming up with, I was like, Okay, I
- 13:50gotta have this cover, say in your book. I think it's the first
- 13:52one that I ever had to cover as the background. And then I didn't
- 13:56want to love the young lady because both of your covers are beautiful. I'm
- 14:00a I'm a cover girl. Your cover is beautiful. I'm gonna read your
- 14:03book. Yeah, yeah, she's amazing thing, so tell us about this.
- 14:09So hearing the cross, I actually grew from this a weird story.
- 14:13My sister and I. You know, you get stressed out. Everybody has
- 14:18their like their goal to things that they do when they get stressed out.
- 14:20Well, for a long time, my sister had turned me on the Starbucks
- 14:26and white chocolate mocha, Good Day, white chocolate Mocha, Bad Day,
- 14:33white chocolate Mocha, and white chocolate Molca. So I was I was down
- 14:39in these things quite often, and I happen to have a having a conversation
- 14:43with my mother at that time, and I was like, you know what,
- 14:46it's just gonna stress with the I'm just gonna go to Starbucks and get
- 14:48me a white chocolate mocha. And she said, oh, so you're on
- 14:52that too, And I was like, what I mean, it's good?
- 14:54What do you mean? And she was like, don't let that be your
- 14:56god boys talking about And she said, you are instead of taking your stressful
- 15:03day and you're a good day and your hard day to Christ, you're running
- 15:09Starbucks to get you a white chocolate mocha. And I said, oh,
- 15:13okay, that's deep. But so that's where it kind of started from,
- 15:20because everybody has something they're dealing with, right Like a lot of times in
- 15:24books, we want to read about the man that we're dealing with. Actually
- 15:28had a readers, this would have been a better if she was first before
- 15:31a man. She thirsty for food. But I read all of her reviews.
- 15:35Thank you guys for supporting Please leave those reviews. I actually read them
- 15:39all. But it was the point of everybody has something that they're going to
- 15:46or that they're dealing with. So for a Diamond, hers is food addiction
- 15:50and that's her cross. So that's what she has to carry. She is
- 15:54running to ice cream and cookies and sweets whenever something's not going right in her
- 16:00life, and so that's her cross for me. At that time, before
- 16:03my mama set me down, I was running to Starbucks. Life got hard,
- 16:08you know. So that's where it comes from. It comes from the
- 16:11fact that everyone has something they're dealing with. For diamonduts, food and it's
- 16:17something that she has to learn how to carry because it doesn't necessarily go away.
- 16:22It's our fight, it's our thing, it's our corn, it's the
- 16:26thing that we're working on constantly. Right or that kind of keeps us in
- 16:30check or keeps us close to the cross because that's the only way we can
- 16:34get over it or that's the only way we can deal with the situation.
- 16:40Okay, So why that title because essentially she that's her thing, she's working
- 16:48with, trying to overcome her issues in life. And as anybody, all
- 16:56of us, we all have something that we're trying to overcome, something we're
- 16:59dealing with personally, and so I all that our personal cross that we're carrying.
- 17:03Everybody's carrying some type of the iniquity, some type of something that we're
- 17:07working with, and right, hey, what's that as good evening? So
- 17:15so that's where it kind of comes from because she's carrying that, that's her
- 17:19burden to bear. Basically, I love that. And I've never I've never
- 17:26read a book where the character dealt with a food addiction. Like you said,
- 17:29a lot of the books are about dealing with the man dealing with the
- 17:32other one, but a food addiction, and so many people actually have that
- 17:37issue. So kludles for you, we're thinking outside the box. Ye'll be
- 17:45making ready'll make my two readless so long. I mean, I've got a
- 17:51book down here about this big of books. I gotta read some now,
- 17:53I gotta add that one. Yeah, I can understand my TBR list is
- 18:00it's just people are coming out with so much good stuff, and it's like,
- 18:02okay, I got that gothic athetic authetics, like you should see me
- 18:07at books. I gotta meet that one. I think I've got over about
- 18:14three hundred screenshots of books by itself, and then there's about another hundred of
- 18:21authors who I was like, Oh, I like what they say, let
- 18:22me check out their books. But yea, what is your favorite part about
- 18:30being a writer readers? Oh my god, you didn't meet readers. You
- 18:36get to meet so many people like they're and and they so as an author,
- 18:41for me, everybody's process is different. But for me, I kind
- 18:45of hear the story and see the story as I'm writing it. Right.
- 18:48So for me, I'm close to the character. You know, this person
- 18:52is I should like about chocolate. I touch to agree with you. I
- 19:00understand completely, but me let me have it. Oh. So for me,
- 19:08I'm seeing the character and I'm living the character right and it's in my
- 19:14head. So when the reader comes up and they've read the book and they've
- 19:17resonated with the character, or you know, they felt some kind of way
- 19:19about the character, it's like the coolest thing because now all of a sudden,
- 19:23the person is not just something that I cooked up in my crazy head.
- 19:26It's like we we we we're there, we could sleep, We're coming.
- 19:30So and they reach out and I love when they reach out. I'm
- 19:36a sun kiss. I gotta get it. The drink. Oh who loves
- 19:42or soda? Telling you I do? I do? I do? So
- 19:52you guys, as you could tell up so much. I'm sorry it was
- 19:59the of my show. You want your readers to see you. So now
- 20:03you're reading and she likes to have fun. So girl, don't you worry
- 20:08about and I like Orange Solders. It's a lot that's like it, she
- 20:14writes. She read Angela, I definitely need the orange one. There's different
- 20:18brands of sun Kiss. See I'm a Pepsi, Are you Petsie? I
- 20:23think they're got a problem Pepsi. So you guys were gonna take a break.
- 20:29We send them mere talk about Pepsi solders and books. I mean,
- 20:32hey, you can't can't reading listen to it all on their see book Galls
- 20:36and friend Chap. But we're gonna take a break, y'all. We're coming
- 20:40back. We're gonna know some more about miss she Now Publishing, we are

- 21:15allow your voice to be heard around the World. Aspiring Author's Magazine is an
- 21:18international magazine founded in May of twenty twenty by Queen Angela Get featured. All
- 21:26Right, you guys, we are back. We are back. So this
- 21:29is the fund segment. Okay, so I said to you some questions,
- 21:33Yes you did. If you can co author with any author, who would
- 21:41it be and why? So when I read the question, I was like,
- 21:49Okay, who am I going to name? And then I thought about
- 21:52it, like who was you not co auth? I have my favorites.
- 21:57I have people that I absolutely to read. That's the so Kara Campbell definitely.
- 22:06Olivia shaw Reel definitely. Her books are amazing. I love the language.
- 22:14I should just have a way of words. It just feels like a
- 22:18love story with words. Yes, Like, how in the world did you
- 22:23put that sentence together? I'm like this, like, you need to step
- 22:30your game up. She now this is not That's how I read. And
- 22:37then, oh my god, finish your store. Lokisha john sins. There's
- 22:44so many Like if someone called and said, hey, you want to call
- 22:47off the book, I'm not so big. I'll be like, girl,
- 22:49I don't know. I'm like, what what part do you want to write?
- 22:53I like that. I like that, like having two out there's from
- 23:00two different spectrums to come in and put a book together, or the originality
- 23:06between them. I love that. I love that so and I actually I
- 23:10have had opportunity to co author with someone before with the two other ladies,
- 23:15and it's something about how you're not competing by no means, but they just
- 23:22help you bring out so much more, like you dig deeper when you're working
- 23:27with someone else, you know. So I enjoy the process. I haven't
- 23:32done in a while, but I do enjoy the process. So now my
- 23:37next one, if anybody can play you in a movie, who would it
- 23:41be? And why Regina hall Oh? Why? Because she got ranged Like
- 23:52if for the serious parts of my life, she could be really serious,
- 23:56but she's also very very funny, So for the weird adio idiot supersedes that's
- 24:03me, I think she could pull it off right so that however, she's
- 24:07got good she's got good rain. She's so funny. But at the same
- 24:10time, if she needed to be, you know, serious, that she
- 24:14could be serious. And I kind of I kind of like that, you
- 24:18know, I would think that when I need to be serious, I could
- 24:19be serious. But in real life, I'm probably just a clown. Do
- 24:23you okay that that? She is very verses? So what would the title
- 24:30of your movie be? Oh, I got her, thank you God?
- 24:40Oh wow? What would the title be say it ain't so? Oh?
- 24:48And why would you understand it ain't so? Because if it's a book based
- 24:55on like my writing tractory. Although my my mom and my family were very
- 25:00adamant about me reading the whole you're going to write books for a living or
- 25:07make that a career, that was not something that was not Her words were,
- 25:15oh, so you want to be a starving artist, You're gonna be
- 25:19broken. So it was just like, you know, you think, what
- 25:26do you want to be when you broke? I think I want to be
- 25:29an author. So what you're saying is, you want to be a starving
- 25:32artist. You're gonna be broken. So because of that that that would be
- 25:38the title of the book or the movie saying so because I found that while
- 25:42I'm not we ain eating out every day, but I'm not starving. I'm
- 25:51not starving. I get to do fun stuff. I enjoyed my life.
- 25:56There you go, there you go. So my last question of the night,
- 26:00well, next to the last. I always starting, I'm always starting
- 26:04to ask authors this. And because I ran into an author who wasn't a
- 26:11reader, do you feel that authors should be readers? So my question to
- 26:22said author would be, why aren't you a reader? Because I found that
- 26:30I did do the whole well, there's nothing to read, so let me
- 26:33write things. But I've become a better writer because I became an avid reader.
- 26:40So the more I read, the better I get. I can't get
- 26:45good without reading. And I've been on both sides of the spectrum, Like
- 26:49I beat the whole, Well, there's nothing to read, so let me
- 26:52write, and then I consume some stories. I started writing, and I
- 26:56got so busy and trying to crank out books that my reading and kind of
- 27:00fell back. And so now that I've been in a season of more balance
- 27:04where I am avidly consuming books again and I'm also writing again. My next
- 27:11book is so it's so far beyond anything I've done before. So my question
- 27:17to that person would be, why aren't you reading? Because you you need
- 27:22both? You really do you need both? To me, it's like a
- 27:26cook not tasting their own food. Yeah, it looks like you have a
- 27:33question. So if somebody would like to know. What's your advice to an
- 27:37aspiring author? Read, re read, and read and read. Don't get
- 27:48caught in the matrix of authorship. Right, You're you're an author because you
- 27:56want to write books, write your stories, do your research, write more
- 28:00stories. But don't allow the algorithms and all of the things in this matrix
- 28:07deter you from your dream if you want to be If you're an aspiring author,
- 28:11I said, you're an author, so right, and produce and keep
- 28:15working, keep studying, and keep going. Sometimes the matrix of it all
- 28:19will have you think, well, you know, I wrote the book,
- 28:22I put out the book. Only five people bought the book, and I'm
- 28:26looking on Amazon charts and all of these people are doing so much better than
