- 4:53don't think he's from here but we're going to find out.
- 4:57So let's go ahead and welcome in scuffle Moss.
- 5:03All right, folks. Well, like I said, here, we are
- 5:06with the, the Elusive and the interesting scuffle Moss Tremont
- 5:12first time on the random, even ramblings podcast.
- 5:15So welcome to the show scuffle moss.
- 5:18In New Jersey is been a very long time.
- 5:21Yeah, it has, we, what have you been up to here lately, man?
- 5:26Because I know the last time she did, I think the last time I saw
- 5:29you like you actually had me A show of yours.
- 5:35This is probably right like at the beginning of my midgard,
- 5:39musings Channel, you know, you had me, come over and we did a
- 5:43story time and and stuff like that.
- 5:45But what have you been up to ever since then you know, you
- 5:48kind of disappeared there for a little bit?
- 5:50It seems I was doing Storytime and I
- 6:03would have our guests come on the show, we had you and we
- 6:07talked about a little bit of so miss ologies week, it was a good
- 6:11time since then, I've done several things.
- 6:17I no longer in doing the online story times or instead I focus
- 6:25on like a young kind of my musical thing which is Usually,
- 6:34it's mostly evaporated, but it's still got Porter with that.
- 6:39I'm keeping a lawyer who'd resuscitating or in actually
- 6:45going to be releasing an album on February 11th.
- 6:49No called quarantine sessions. Who fun stuff.
- 6:54What kind of music does a troll? Play these days?
- 6:57I've never heard of trolls playing music.
- 6:59That's well, I've seen it, but you're like the only one.
- 7:02One. So I'm curious like what kind of
- 7:03music are we talking about here? The like jazz, is it like, you
- 7:07know, Rave is it instance, you know, everything
- 7:21music because I love music. One of the four strokes on the
- 7:34album is a hip-hop song. I just finished product.
- 7:40It sounds awesome. Another one.
- 7:43We've got in all the from the wooden days or it's called root.
- 7:50There's hot chicken with both those or heavy about.
- 7:53They do. I sound a little more like a
- 7:55little closer to do block metal. Stoner metal, okay, The law, I
- 8:02have other things like see, snowflakes still fall which is a
- 8:08spoken word acoustic kind of song.
- 8:14All of this it's all into a size 16 solo album and this is all
- 8:22you write. Like this is all scuffle more
- 8:24stuff original original stuff or whatever.
- 8:28Wow, exceptional Well, not exactly.
- 8:33Five hits for Local 44 covers that were produced by Rick, put
- 8:39her a of the windmills. Oh yeah.
- 8:42The only mom is man, that's cool.
- 8:43It's great to see that Rick and then mirror kind of a part of
- 8:47that project that's that's awesome.
- 8:49It's mainly Rick. Rick has been doing the
- 8:53producing for me recently. Okay cool.
- 8:57Well, that's awesome news. I'm glad to hear that.
- 8:59You know, you've been staying busy and that this whole, you
- 9:02know, World pandemic thing hasn't kept you down so bad,
- 9:05which, you know, it's affected, a lot of us in a lot of
- 9:07different ways, you know, people all over the world are feeling
- 9:11this and continue to feel. It's Ripple effects, you know,
- 9:15even now in today. So I'm glad to hear that, you
- 9:19know, a pandemic doesn't keep a forest rolled down.
- 9:28It's been a rough time but these are the good times.
- 9:32Okay, great. Glad to hear that.
- 9:35And I want to, I want to kind of let people know a little bit
- 9:38about kind of our history and talk a little bit and learn a
- 9:43little bit more about you because I'm sure that out of all
- 9:46of the guests that I've had on my show.
- 9:49You're probably the most intriguing one at least visually
- 9:52and everything. People are like, what in the
- 9:54world did you get a troll? Especially me being Being who I
- 9:57am and, you know, the religious in faith, spirituality,
- 10:01whatever, that I follow heathens.
- 10:04There's a lot of folklore that surround trolls in different
- 10:09parts of Scandinavia. But overall, the general theme
- 10:13of the troll in most of Scandinavian folklore, is that
- 10:16they're, they're, they're pretty much bad news and they're,
- 10:20they're unsavory types. Now, I know differently for, at
- 10:24least from the forest troll. Some species or or whatever.
- 10:30I don't know how that that's the right word, but our oldest rule.
- 10:34Yeah. You know, in general trolls tend
- 10:37to be uneducated with, I think that's what makes them honoring.
- 10:42Well, I mean, you're educated and a bit sophisticated because
- 10:46you got on a freaking knit vest man or or jacket, you know, I
- 10:50mean like you're not just wearing Moss for your for your
- 10:55garbs, which I think when we first First met, it was clothes
- 10:59were kind of hard to come by for you there for a little bit.
- 11:03We're close. I wanted to just wear the pearl
- 11:06of stock that I heard it. It honestly it's nice wearing
- 11:10clothing I can't object to it. We don't sure, you know, no one
- 11:14generally goes In most cases the, you know, I recently had an
- 11:20experience which I talked about on the last podcast, you know?
- 11:24So for everybody listening the one last week with Dingo and,
- 11:28and Patrick, where we talked about our spiritual camping,
- 11:30trip, and everything, part of the part of the thing that I
- 11:33learned about, that was the importance of clothing, because
- 11:36it was in the 20s at night, and you got to have clothes and
- 11:39layers on to keep warm, but then some other times, you know, they
- 11:44are, it's just, it's part of that.
- 11:46A human thing that becomes so cumbersome.
- 11:49And so awkward sometimes it's like, you know, I wish I could
- 11:52just forget about all this. Clothing and then and eating and
- 11:58chewing and my gosh, it's so so cumbersome to have to do all
- 12:02that stuff. What's that like for a troll?
- 12:04Is it the same thing? But my son garble, he does not
- 12:12wear clothes, he runs around Stark naked and he don't have.
- 12:16So that's another thing that happened.
- 12:18Since we've seen each other, I produce the baby
- 12:22Congratulations. How did that work out?
- 12:26Like how does a troll produce Offspring?
- 12:29Is it like the same way as like the birds and the bees, but in
- 12:32the troll version. So, like with Forest trolls, we
- 12:37have a special organ that's located in her chest.
- 12:41It's called The Root. I call it my route and in
- 12:47general when Forest, Rosewood mate, because we used to be Your
- 12:54sexual production, kind of creatures.
- 12:57What does not exist in any more clothes on on the last one?
- 13:01So it's for my son, you wouldn't tangle your roots and then all
- 13:06the nutrients from the parents. Would go into the roots with it
- 13:11would form. Oh baby.
- 13:13Those whole Forest Rose were originally found.
- 13:16Both. In my case, I did not pollinate
- 13:19for a very long time. It got booked up.
- 13:23Then I went into the bathroom for three hours and I pooped out
- 13:27a baby. Don't forgot who came to be
- 13:32very, very interesting, very interesting.
- 13:35When when we first met some years ago it was at a local
- 13:41music venue and I think the general response from the public
- 13:46was somewhat of alarm. You know like what is this?
- 13:50What is this thing, you know? That that's come out into the
- 13:54public now meeting you, right? Because you know how often do we
- 13:57see the like live? You not not often if at all you
- 14:01know and then in such a short period of time you know, myself
- 14:05and so many others in the community really got to know and
- 14:10understand like, you know, he's he's different, but he's not
- 14:14harmful and if anything he's loving and he wants to be a part
- 14:19of the world around him. meaning, you know, the community
- 14:23and everything and you really did, I think a great job at you
- 14:28know, educating the public and saying, hey just because I'm
- 14:31Different, you know, doesn't mean you have to be afraid of me
- 14:34or shun me and I think that's a valuable lesson, you know, just
- 14:39overall for the world to know, you know, I don't know how you
- 14:43will tease essentially, what I was going for when they first
- 14:46came out, even though I still, I still want to give love because
- 14:54that's really all that matters is the love that we give wound
- 14:58all, you know, I don't want to I don't want to spread hate the
- 15:05don't like hate. Yeah, it's not fun for anyone
- 15:08involved, but in, you know, it sucks because along the way you
- 15:15meet people who aren't your room the way that your lives knowing
- 15:22up, don't lie? Not, it's those kind of things
- 15:25talk but, you know, I'm still front with a lot of folks, and I
- 15:31don't go out a whole lot because, Will I mean, I don't
- 15:36necessarily have a reason. I used to love going to Auto
- 15:40growth. Rehearsal, studios, the venue
- 15:42that we method because it's, you know, right down the street.
- 15:47It was easy to get to it felt comfortable like there weren't
- 15:53any police around to say hey what the heck is not right?
- 15:57You know in general I tended to for not music venue.
- 16:04Then there was of course, media rerun because that's no longer
- 16:10in service. No, I'm kind of out of options
- 16:13of places that I'm welcome. Be console, you know?
- 16:16Yeah, people don't usually welcome for Right.
- 16:22Yeah, that's a like I said, that's one of those unfortunate
- 16:28things that, you know, people that just don't understand or
- 16:31the don't get you, you know, they want to pass judgment and
- 16:34think, oh, he's kinds of crazy things, you know, all these out
- 16:37to hurt me, or he's out to cause a Ruckus or he's out to do
- 16:40whatever, you know, but I don't know, I know no, not at all.
- 16:45I know, you know, I think that the real friends that you make
- 16:48along the way, stick with you, through The toughest of times,
- 16:52you know, and they they don't they don't abandon you or, you
- 16:57know, true friends, don't abandon us and you know, even if
- 17:00you don't speak to each other for a very long period of time
- 17:02or even if there's this gap between seeing each other and
- 17:06stuff, you know, kind of like with us, you know, like, we
- 17:09don't talk a whole lot. It's, it's very rare to talk
- 17:12like this is the most, I think we've talked in a very long time
- 17:15prior to setting this whole thing up, which I'm glad we did.
- 17:21Because it sheds, light on a lot of positive things, I think.
- 17:26And I wanted to, I wanted to see if you could tell the the public
- 17:30and I know very little bit like tell us the story of you because
- 17:35again the the mythology and the lore that surrounds trolls and
- 17:39Scandinavia get said is largely that of there are magical
- 17:43creatures and they're usually out to no good or they're up to
- 17:46no good and you know and they want to Cause all kinds of
- 17:49problems. But are you native to
- 17:52Murfreesboro Tennessee or like how did this how did we like
- 17:55tell us the mythology behind scuffle Moss?
- 17:59So in general, what would you kill people?
- 18:07It was a very long time ago but I'm not a geologist but what I
- 18:11found is that are you originated from a forest On the Border zone
- 18:18of Germany? Russia, there's somewhere in
- 18:21between, are we respond? No one day, I was being chased
- 18:25by a Hornet and I showed up into a clearing but I found a very
- 18:31large crate of hamburger buns. You know, I stumbled upon said,
- 18:37crate of hamburger buns. They started eating them but I
- 18:42passed out I fell asleep. Next thing, you know, I need
- 18:47Nashville Tennessee. But wow.
- 18:49This was like 60 years ago, she look good for 60, if that?
- 18:54Yeah. If you're over 32 years, old
- 19:00looking damn good. I hope to look as good as you.
- 19:02It 200 and some odd mud. Just use mud to exfoliate.
- 19:08That's the trick. I spent a couple of decades Like
- 19:17six decades hiding in the woods. Eventually I came across a haunt
- 19:23like a haunted house. Conducting would the people run
- 19:28with Terror? Oh hey you are scary looking.
- 19:31We want you to scare people. So they paid me in hunger,
- 19:35Durbin's, Mundo. It was cool for a while but I
- 19:39didn't, like, scaring people. I wanted to make them love.
- 19:42We would work upon, we would all Like tell jokes that looks silly
- 19:50because I didn't want people to run away from me.
- 19:53So eventually they said you don't scare people you go away.
- 19:57So I got my last bag of hamburger buns with I headed
- 20:00down the road shortly thereafter.
- 20:03I was hit by a car. The car was my caretaker, they
- 20:08took me to their house, they kept me in the garage, they
- 20:13taught me proper English, they taught me to read, they Look me
- 20:17like a proper music appreciations who Toto play
- 20:21video games. So, you know, they taught me a
- 20:23lot of things then they let me go.
- 20:29The rest is history. So they civilized you a little
- 20:34bit more domesticated you as best I could I guess maybe.
- 20:38Is this your house called? Okay, so wow.
- 20:44So the forests of the border of Germany and Russia hamburger
- 20:50buns. Yeah, basically went into a bun
- 20:54coma and turned up in the United States.
- 20:58Nashville, Tennessee. Don't know how you got here.
- 21:01That's quite a story. And and yeah, it's been, it's
- 21:06been, it's been a while like just seeing, like knowing that
- 21:09but seeing your journey or seeing your, your life story,
- 21:12The Saga as it were, The Saga of scuffle Moss will call it, kind
- 21:16of play out and continue with the people around the area.
- 21:22You know you've I was actually for the folks that don't know.
- 21:26I was actually part of a show that you Aimed.
- 21:33And I think it was Nashville. One time.
- 21:36It was, it was a well, is it was?
- 21:41It was a band, Wooten, right? It was, it was like, and I got
- 21:45to be a part of that show, and that was such an, it was like a
- 21:47story being told. It was very theatrical, you
- 21:50know, there was, there was action, there was drama.
- 21:56There was, you know, fighting and they're, you know, all kinds
- 21:59of cool stuff. Remember that?
- 22:02Remember that show. Remember where that was?
- 22:05It was at the hiwatt in, that's it.
- 22:08Yeah, don't show don't couple months to put together or we
- 22:15were playing with while you were asleep the Mod Gear and Knights
- 22:23of the road which I am Final Fantasy.
- 22:26Cover band. They invited us to play at the
- 22:31high. What wound?
- 22:32Like I said, it was months in the making I wrote a script or
- 22:37your make comics that coincided with it leading up to the show.
- 22:42Each then Auto Show, we had actual actors.
- 22:46What kind of doctors? We hold a few Franz.
- 22:50Who are we little cave rules? One of those roles was Jesse.
- 22:57ALT delete' key, which was a ancient Viking who got summoned
- 23:04in order to help us fight off an ancient evil.
- 23:08Yeah. Yeah, I thought that was cool
- 23:10because like, you know, some of the, some of the cast members of
- 23:15that performance are still near and dear friends and even
- 23:20Brothers of mine who make up our tribe even to this day and so,
- 23:26being a part of that and being integrated into that story.
- 23:30You know, because of each key, it might be somewhat of a modern
- 23:35term, I think, but but it has its roots or has its traces too.
- 23:39Roon roon readers and Rune casters and people that work
- 23:43with Divination in you know, ancient Scandinavia probably up
- 23:49to and during the Viking age after like the conversion period
- 23:52or during the conversion period. But it's pretty, it's pretty
- 23:56safe to say that, you know, Rune divination, and Magic sorts that
- 24:00that, that nature, where evident and apparent in the societies at
- 24:04the time. So me being, you know, Pagan and
- 24:09Following thing a pagan path that reflects dramatic Heathen
- 24:14re having that role in the show was like, Anna Maj to my beliefs
- 24:21and it was really well put together.
- 24:23I love the story and how it was like we got to get this you
- 24:27know, this ancient magician or this ancient you know Viking guy
- 24:32or whatever to come in and help us defeat this monster or
- 24:36whatever is very Saga. Ask you know what I mean?
- 24:38Like it was something that I think you could put together and
- 24:41then do a film on which it is. That is that is that performance
- 24:46anywhere online? Like in anybody?
- 24:48Can we can we find that somewhere?
- 24:49Is that is that been taken down to you know, or is it it's okay?
- 25:04Roy's of the blood moon, I believe.
- 25:07Okay, we're going to find it though because I want to put
- 25:09that down in the show notes for everybody to check out because I
- 25:12mean, it was a pretty epic set. It was a full set of.
- 25:17I don't know how many songs, but Roots, one of them was it.
- 25:22Yeah, reach was wouldn't do more.
- 25:26We also played a couple of sunshine in the Pharaohs Covers
- 25:31Little Red Riding Hood Weebly. we also heard on We played a
- 25:43mega church which is one of our heavier songs or another one was
- 25:51probably Hot Chicken which is another song that's going to be
- 25:54on quarantine sessions. It was a great time.
- 25:59I remember getting my workout in that night, it was so yeah.
- 26:04We're gonna do my wooden boy website, so that the stories
- 26:13that I was telling leading up to those shows, could be kind of
- 26:17like food into more of a graphic novel Style.
- 26:22Cool. But you got like illustration
- 26:25and illustrator or is I use is going to be something like that.
- 26:29Where people can. Get a book or or comic book or
- 26:33something, like you talked about like a graphic novel and read
- 26:36The Saga, or read the stories, is it going to be something like
- 26:39that? Eventually.
- 26:40Do you think, you know, it's look, don't, I'm preparing it to
- 26:43make an actual book for release, but for right now it's going to
- 26:47be up on my website for everyone to enjoy right at the end of the
- 26:54chapters. If there was a show that
- 26:56coincided with it, I usually put the show at the end of it as
- 27:00well. Sweet.
- 27:02So I didn't realize that you had that that much going on.
- 27:05So any social media or any website that, that you, that you
- 27:10want to have the people check out, it will be in the show
- 27:14notes. So, you know, people listen and
- 27:17watch and down in the description.
- 27:18The show notes area. Wherever, however, it is that
- 27:20you're watching this or taking this all in.
- 27:23If you want to find out more about the stories that we're
- 27:26talking about and follow scuffle mosses Saga as it were.
- 27:31All those details will be there. So however, however you're able
- 27:35to get it over to me, you know, just shoot me those links.
- 27:38So I can include that, you know, for everybody to check out
- 27:42because I'm curious too. I love to follow along and and
- 27:46keep track of it. I think that'd be pretty cool,
- 27:50it's really awesome. Great.
- 27:54Let's do YouTube video. That goes directly to which her
- 28:01Performance. They everybody when you're when
- 28:05you're listening and watching to this there will be a link down
- 28:07in the description show notes area to what we were just
- 28:10talking about where I plays the, I play the role of the victim
- 28:15who gets summoned to defeat this.
- 28:19It was like a monster of sorts. I can't remember, what is what
- 28:22it was called. But yeah, it was, it was
- 28:25unclear. That's right.
- 28:27Yeah. Interesting.
- 28:32So Forest trolls have a Like a deity or deities sacred figures,
- 28:41sort of to tree whose arms seem to reach up into the sky.
- 28:52We would on a moonlit night, specifically full moons or it
- 28:59look like the tree was holding the moon.
- 29:02So it look like it had the big oil or There was a spirit within
- 29:07the tri-dot. I later.
- 29:11Accidentally released it, free into the world and that's how
- 29:18the whole thing of wouldn't have happened.
- 29:21But all, you know, the or God was called Uncle Ranch.
- 29:26He protected us, he gave us shelter, would he fiddles?
- 29:32But then, upload Moonstruck, everything changed UND down the
- 29:37line. Blood Moons have always been bad
- 29:40for us forest rules. That's fascinating.
- 29:46I didn't realize that you guys had such a seemingly complex
- 29:51view of the world because it doesn't, it actually doesn't
- 29:56doesn't drift a little bit too much differently than a lot of
- 29:59other human cultures. I think, you know, the, the idea
- 30:03of there being this, you know, God or Spirit, or something that
- 30:07exists in nature for that the the, you know, say the
- 30:12sacredness of nature. And I recently got to experience
- 30:19something like that where you know the world around me was so
- 30:25alive More Alive than I ever got to really experience it before.
- 30:29You know, I had, I had a different perception and a
- 30:32different understanding of everything around me the the
- 30:36Rocks, the leaves, the ground, the Earth, the air, the Stars,
- 30:40the moon, just everything. Now the moon I got to say, you
- 30:43know, the Moon Don't don't, don't don't don't underestimate
- 30:48the moon because I tried to hold.
- 30:53Yeah, yeah. No doubt because I remember kind
- 30:57of being in my element at the time and this goes back to last
- 30:59week's podcast for I was talking with Dingo and Patrick about our
- 31:03collective experience, and I remember specifically at a point
- 31:07where I was trying to, you know, talk to the Moon in a way that
- 31:12was very direct and very You know, almost confrontational and
- 31:17I'll II very quickly was like back off, buddy.
- 31:21You know, she gets you and I don't know, it wasn't a blood
- 31:27moon, but it was, it was it was a few nights away front.
- 31:30Well, I'm trying to think now cuz Was this pound trying to
- 31:33member this past months Moon. Was a blood moon or it was wolf
- 31:38moon, or was some kind of major Harvest Moon?
- 31:43Yeah, that sounds, right. But it was the night we were
- 31:47camping, you know, it was just shy of a week away from it being
- 31:53full, but it was super bright and it was, you know, probably
- 31:55about 3/4 full at that time. But very Just, you know, very
- 32:04full and very full of energy, full of life, you know, full of
- 32:08everything. And so with, like, with, like,
- 32:12what you were talking about Scott from Moss with the, I
- 32:15don't know, the the spiritual existence of ahn'qiraj and the
- 32:20world and the trees and this, and that does do you consider
- 32:25yourself a spiritual type troll. You know, since you're so old.
- 32:35Excuse me. My wolves are wrong whining.
- 32:38Tonight. That's okay.
- 32:40They do that from time to time as for spirituality.
- 32:47Those times I feel like a hollow husk but, you know, II do want
- 32:55to feel like there's something out there.
- 32:58Yeah. I know what you mean wouldn t.
- 33:02Like I do. So, kind of consider myself a
- 33:05heating in the sense that the poetic Edda is where I derive my
- 33:10belief system from. Oh really.
- 33:16I'm not a, I really like the stories within the poetic adopt,
- 33:23are you? I appreciate the call.
- 33:27They're kind of liked her doubles in the sense that I
- 33:32personally gave you a lot of For he's we do things such as like
- 33:37that. The Bible, for instance, again,
- 33:40Parables and stuff to learn from your life from your leave a
- 33:46good, right? I feel like on the spiritual
- 33:50level, a lot of religions accomplish that longing for For
- 33:58what, what we seek out spiritually, they filled out
- 34:04Vale. Yeah, the exactly.
- 34:07There's like that the, the knowing that there's something
- 34:11bigger than us, or greater than us, but maybe not knowing what
- 34:14it specifically is, and just kind of finding the name or
- 34:19something to describe it, you know, whether it be elements of
- 34:22nature and or something else, you know?
- 34:26And that's the way I kind of see the at is to, you know, a lot of
- 34:30what I encounter. And a lot of what other folks in
- 34:34kind of the circles that I not necessarily, you know, gravitate
- 34:39towards, but see a lot of activity around, a lot of the
- 34:42key than Community specifically, I'm talking about, and people
- 34:45come into this path or this view of things, and they, they always
- 34:49look for something to start with, right?
- 34:52They look because I, hey, I'm new to this.
- 34:54Where do I start? Which is such a loaded question,
- 34:57but so many answers that come to people or, oh, you know, Read
- 35:02the poetic Edda, read the pros at a read this, you know,
- 35:05stories and stuff about the gods and their adventures in there
- 35:09this and that. And I'm always like that.
- 35:11That's great for that, for that purpose, you know, because like,
- 35:13I like you were saying, like, they have morals and things that
- 35:21you can kind of glean from, you know, when you know, Thor loses
- 35:25his hammer and has to dress up, as Freya, to win it back, or
- 35:28when, you know, he has to kind of With him and Odin Odin as
- 35:36Harvard. You know, ties, he tries to get
- 35:38across the ferry because he has things to do and in Harvard is
- 35:42kind of giving them the shit as it were.
- 35:44So many of these stories are are great, but they don't really
- 35:47Encompass Heathen, re the world view, the the Customs, the
- 35:50Traditions, the spirituality aspect, they're great for the
- 35:54what they are in the terms of just kind of learning about the
- 35:57nature of the gods, or the nature of the Sacred.
- 36:00And, you know, What kind of? Things you can visit, you know,
- 36:05they have very similar aspects of humanity attached to them and
- 36:10in ways, you know, their diabolical, they're they're
- 36:14sneaky, they're they're treacherous.
- 36:17They're passionate, you know, all these human type feelings
- 36:21and things that we that we feel from time to time.
- 36:24It's relatable when put into two stories, but now they're the
- 36:27gods, you know, and they are so much better than us or they're
- 36:30bigger than us. Reality speaking, you know.
- 36:33And so we can Even though they are that, and they still have
- 36:37this like, relatable things too, that we can pull from.
- 36:41And that's where I see that the stories like the Ed is that are
- 36:45in the Ed. As you know, have value.
- 36:48They Don't Really teach us a whole lot about what it is to be
- 36:50Heathen, but they teach us a lot of neat and valuable things to
- 36:55glean, from just a, how to be a decent human being, you know,
- 36:58how to be a good person and then you know the Hall of them all is
- 37:03another. One that a lot of people try to
- 37:07compare to like the biblical Book of Proverbs, you know?
- 37:10If you follow this you'll be a good Heathen because of the
- 37:12ethics and values that are just inherently.
- 37:17Or that are pulled from there but they're not necessarily just
- 37:20Heathen values. They're just like, hey, you
- 37:21know, you want to be a good guest, you want to be a good
- 37:24host, you want to be wary of where you go.
- 37:27You don't want to leave without protecting yourself.
- 37:29You want to know all these very like, very practical things,
- 37:32right? That just don't necessarily have
- 37:34any roots in Heathen ring. They just tended to.
- 37:38They were the kind of the The basis of a society or loose
- 37:43basis of a society, I should say, not even the full basis of
- 37:46the society because the society at the time was much, it was
- 37:49simpler and it had a very, you know, tribal structure built
- 37:55around it. So, But that's neat.
- 37:59I didn't know that about you that that the Ed is were so
- 38:03intriguing to you. I remember that I think the the
- 38:06time that we came over or that I came over to the caretakers
- 38:09house and we did a story time video together way back.
- 38:14When like I said we said at the beginning of the podcast I think
- 38:18I recited it may not read verbatim but I recited like my
- 38:22own version of of of a story from the poetic Edda by recall.
- 38:29Might have been yeah yep. Yep.
- 38:37When he has to sacrifice his hand for the for the gods
- 38:43because nobody else is willing to do it.
- 38:45And yeah, that's always a popular one to beauty.
- 38:50Salon is he Noble is a he's one of the as a very interesting
- 38:58figure 2. because a lot of the A lot of the old Germanic and I'm
- 39:05talking like older than the Scandinavian.
- 39:10Talking about like Mainland Germania predating Christian
- 39:13time like the Christian conversion periods predating.
- 39:15The the Viking age even older than you the way, way, way older
- 39:20than that, they tear had, you know, comes from different
- 39:27names. There was tear as is like the
- 39:29old Norse name. But there's two and zoo and and
- 39:33and some of these other Germanic names that are, it's derived
- 39:38from as being the principal or chief.
- 39:40God of that, Pantheon of that. You know, Society at the time,
- 39:47it wasn't, you know, most nowadays it's largely accepted
- 39:51that, you know, Odin is the all father and he's the chieftain of
- 39:54the Gods and of the aesir Gods. But Nah, I don't think it was
- 39:59always that, you know, and a lot of Scholars and a lot of people
- 40:03that are studying things. Now, believe that tear was that
- 40:09Chief God roll, there's a lot of mystery surrounding him.
- 40:12We don't know a whole lot about him, other than some of the
- 40:16traits, and the other thing about fenrir and and stuff.
- 40:19But like the actual origins of tear and a lot of allegory and
- 40:27mystery. Round again, but he's definitely
- 40:30a God of nobility. I think, you know, God of kings,
- 40:32and God of Justice and right action, and all that kind of fun
- 40:37stuff. You know, like to, you know, he,
- 40:42he tends to be the one that stands for what's good.
- 40:46What would a good person should do in order to conquer certain
- 40:53things? But wasn't he also a form of a
- 40:57God of War? So yeah.
- 41:06You know, he's just one of those God's thought.
- 41:08I feel represents a overall. Good God.
- 41:13Yeah, one of the other. You've been on the rhetoric
- 41:18Rabbit Hole podcast before right you know, Alex and then all
- 41:21them. He's one of my best friends.
- 41:23Yeah. If good people and he's been on
- 41:26the channel before and I've been on the on their podcast and I
- 41:30need to get him on him in that crew or whatever over here on
- 41:35one of these podcasts one time, they could be a neat like
- 41:37Roundtable thing but we did a we did a thing on his podcast.
- 41:42One time is me and and Dingo and forget who else?
- 41:47but anyway, we talked about tier because he had a lot of
- 41:50questions about him as well as another god of You know, but I
- 42:03think it was was it we were talking about who's he was tear
- 42:06and might have been balder or Braga that was brought here.
- 42:10I think we were talking about which proggy.
- 42:12I did a video on him earlier this year and he's a pretty
- 42:19interesting God to, but he Alex from from the rhetoric gravel
- 42:23and the whole point was bringing him up.
- 42:25Was he shares a similar? Adoration, and appreciation?
- 42:29I 440 or and at least the values surrounding, you know, a figure
- 42:34like that because again, it's about what's doing what is good
- 42:40for the overall good of the collective.
- 42:44Even if that means a sacrifice of yourself, you know, or
- 42:49putting yourself out for the better for the betterment of the
- 42:53group of the tribe as it were, and I think a lot of us can
- 42:57relate to that and, and appreciate that.
- 43:00At Noble nature. You know another another parts
- 43:04of tear that I think of two is you know it's he had to he had
- 43:10to he was willing to and he knew he had to pay the Shield or pay
- 43:14the price or whatever because in the stories he's the caretaker
- 43:22for fenrir you know and I feel like at that time when the whole
- 43:25thing went down in the story where tear had his hand bitten
- 43:28off by the wolf. You know, it was because there
- 43:31was betrayal and I feel like fenrir was was felt betrayed by
- 43:36his caretaker and I can't imagine, you know what that?
- 43:39I think a lot of us can but just that feeling of betrayal, the
- 43:41person that you, you know, had your life pledge to, you know,
- 43:48betrays you. And now I got to take something
- 43:51of yours as payment for that betrayal.
- 43:54So it's a bit of a, you know, like it really hits home.
- 43:58I think for a lot of people to think About it along those
- 44:00lines. But again, tear and his Noble
- 44:02Deeds was not knew what had to be done and he knew that it had
- 44:07to be done for the good of others.
- 44:08And he was, he was the first to step in there and do what had to
- 44:14be done. take that necessary action, even when it was hard to
- 44:20do, or, I mean, Lost his hand for goodness sake.
- 44:24You know the story properly friendlier kept breaking free
- 44:33from his bindings. Yes.
- 44:35Who tear or rather the issuer God's heart the dwarves.
- 44:40Make a ribbon that was unbreakable because it was made
- 44:47of impossible things. So here was the only one willing
- 44:52to go in. You trained him again which win?
- 44:56It did not break. Then real got upset with a
- 45:00Honda. Yep.
- 45:01He look like he did to Han defeat them.
- 45:04Yeah because I mean he's like dude you know you raised me from
- 45:08a pup basically you know like I was I was the one that you were
- 45:13given to take care of and you do this to me.
- 45:17Let me take that hand from me, bro.
- 45:18You don't need that anymore. Yeah.
- 45:23And it's a different sort of sacrifice, you know, because a
- 45:25lot, like I said before, a lot of a lot of the Adoration that
- 45:30that people find in the gods is with owed and, you know, and the
- 45:33chieftain of the Gods. And of this, he gave his eye for
- 45:37wisdom and he, and he hung himself from yggdrasil for nine
- 45:39days and nights, and their sacrifice to that too.
- 45:42But he sacrificed himself to, he sacrificed himself, to himself
- 45:48to gain things for himself. And one could argue that what he
- 45:51was trying to gain was too. You'll be wise and didn't be
- 45:55knowledgeable so he could lead the aesir and he could have all
- 45:57these great gifts that made him a great God or a great leader.
- 46:03But I feel like those those actions still had his own desire
- 46:08you know? I mean he was still like I want
- 46:11it I want it and I'm willing to give anything for it so it was
- 46:14you know not as seemingly selfless as the whole tier
- 46:18thing. Like what did tear have to gain
- 46:20from losing his hand? Nothing nothing personally.
- 46:23Nothing to gain from that. It wasn't like, Odin giving up
- 46:26his. I like I get all this wisdom.
- 46:27Now we're all this knowledge and then, you know, hanging from the
- 46:30tree, I learned the runes and the Mysteries, and all this of
- 46:33the world and whatnot that was, you know, stuff that he gained
- 46:37to him for himself. And when tier does, what he
- 46:45does, there's no physical game, there's no monetary real game,
- 46:49he literally lost his hand, but it was for the good of the
- 46:52others. I was like, hey this wolf needs
- 46:54to be kept Under Wraps because he's going to destroy us all.
- 46:57And I'm the one that he trusts, I'll bind him and then when tear
- 47:02another fenrir rather realizes that he'd been duped, you know,
- 47:06he'd been had, it was time to pay that pay the shield as it
- 47:10were. So again, that story itself is
- 47:14in the poetic Edda and a lot of folks listening and watching her
- 47:17familiar with that story and probably have a More favorite
- 47:22stories in the poetic Edda but that's one of one of your
- 47:24favorites is one of mine but it has a very valuable lesson.
- 47:29I think to be learned from it again, not just from a heathen
- 47:33perspective, just from a You know, don't don't take on more
- 47:38than you can handle. Don't don't promise more than
- 47:41you're able to to deliver. And and when the time comes that
- 47:47you've taken on that responsibility or taking on that
- 47:51role and if you have to, you know, pay up, don't don't
- 47:57withdraw your hand. Take you know, feed the wolf as
- 48:00it were, it's a pretty it's a brutal lesson that can be. you
- 48:06know, I can be learned from time to time so, I definitely take
- 48:12it, but What else have you got going on in your projects?
- 48:17Anything? Anything, besides the, the
- 48:19upcoming quarantine, what did you call it?
- 48:24Quarantine quarantine sessions. Yeah, well, I also noticed a
- 48:28paint chart, also, a graphic artist.
- 48:35I have been helping out with weirdos a podcast.
- 48:41They let me design the logo Woods.
- 48:46He came up with their theme song that plays at the beginning to
- 48:50the end of the show. For really you'll the rabbit
- 48:56racer. Is it the rabbit brother
- 48:59rhetoric Rabbit Hole weirdos, a podcast weirdos podcast, okay?
- 49:11I don't remember his last name but his name is Colin, okay?
- 49:15Clearly, they have a podcast where they tell stories about
- 49:23things that have happened in their life and how it relates to
- 49:27the topic of the day. So I really liked their first
- 49:32season and I was advertising, not always looking for.
- 49:41Jobs to do which they took me up to do a couple of graphic design
- 49:47which music things. So I hope 2.0.
- 49:53Like I said I've been working with Victor Tory for quite
- 49:57enjoying those two, we do. Oh yo I from time to time I do a
- 50:10Felt puppet show. Nice life lessons, really or
- 50:17not, they're just kind of, you know, not learning my lessons by
- 50:24doing stupid things. His name is cheese or supplies.
- 50:45With Jesus lyse e. He is the savior.
- 50:50Everybody gets one. Praise Jesus.
- 50:54Please chief. So let's say we've got, you got
