- 0:00It's bonus time, we're honored Athletics, LLC would allow us to
- 0:03present to you the audio version of their weekly Friday Night,
- 0:06YouTube series. Let's get to and see what the
- 0:08crew has in store this week. Hola, I guess I forgot the whole
- 0:43part of the song. Dang It.
- 0:46Hi, everyone. I almost cut it off at that one,
- 0:53because it really got messed up. So, I've got the least amount of
- 1:00it, so, there you go. Well, welcome, welcome.
- 1:03Welcome to another fun episode of Athletics.
- 1:05Hello Sophie. All, but one of us is back into
- 1:09our comfy combines, but I don't think he's, he's too upset about
- 1:14the company combines that he's in right now with Niagara Falls
- 1:16so much rain, especially with this Texas weather right now,
- 1:20you're not missing at all. So with that said, Governor, how
- 1:26are you doing? Doing great been here since the
- 1:3113th? We're heading back on the 30th.
- 1:36It's like, we bleep Engine turns over.
- 1:39But getting the Sikh family haven't seen in six years has
- 1:43been absolutely tremendous touring around Toronto heading
- 1:49up to Niagara all of that and just having my kids, see their
- 1:54cousins and amen. It's been fabulous.
- 2:00Next week. I probably might be a little
- 2:02depressed now as far as the evening.
- 2:07With mm, you know, rushing home to get home by the time, you
- 2:11know, the 5:00 Western time. Schedule start.
- 2:15So I can be home by 8:00 to catch the, I mean every single
- 2:22year sucks you in and then it just spits you out.
- 2:26And now you're just, I'm having Rawls.
- 2:29Like I'm like, what am I doing now?
- 2:31What am I doing? My evenings now, But yeah, other
- 2:34than that, I'm good until you have to start planning are not
- 2:40planning but getting back to workouts and stuff you're like,
- 2:42oh why? Yeah, here we are sir lucious
- 2:47and mostly, I mean, the most deserving of us all to be in
- 2:50that comfy chair and snuggled up.
- 2:53How are you tonight, sir? I'm well, I'm very well tired
- 2:58but I'm good, I'm good. Great.
- 3:02Not great. That you're tired.
- 3:03Great that you're good. So thank you Clyde.
- 3:07How you doing? I'm good.
- 3:10You know, I've never been to a world championship as a
- 3:13spectator, me and the family hung out the whole time.
- 3:18I was there from day one, all the way through day 10,
- 3:21fantastic experience. Loved every minute of it, would
- 3:26definitely do it again, but I prefer to be there coaching, so
- 3:30we'll change that in the future. Nice lumbar from afar.
- 3:35You are muted, sir. But how are you doing this
- 3:37evening? I'm doing spectacular lie, I'm
- 3:43tired, but I refuse to admit that I'm tired because so
- 3:46lucious coach for 9 of 10 days, so I don't get to be tired.
- 3:52My own, I only coach for two but we did walk almost 13 miles.
- 3:58Facts. We did we did walk almost 13
- 4:00miles. While coaching the deck?
- 4:02Come over those. Two days.
- 4:03That's a fact and we racked up. It was 31 hours.
- 4:08So that was pretty crazy to get get that wall, whatever the
- 4:11Apple watch told us, so, whatever that means.
- 4:13But anyways, shout-out to the popcorn and pretzels is saved my
- 4:18life. Anyhow, anyhow.
- 4:26We were discussing this earlier amongst the chat but as we recap
- 4:30to as we not really, I'm going to go ahead and say that as I
- 4:33calculated and I used a Our Olympic spreadsheet and I copied
- 4:41it. And we know the Olympics was
- 4:43correct. That's why I chose that one.
- 4:45And with that said, Drum roll, please.
- 4:53And not at all, but I'm scrolling over so I can get the
- 4:56exact points. All right, at the bottom.
- 5:01So with a whopping 32 points, Lamar from afar, you can stay
- 5:09afar. Hey, but I did win.
- 5:14One of the genders. Get that straight, you did win,
- 5:17one of the genders will literally I know nothing.
- 5:19I know. Nothing about women's track
- 5:21evident at all, not at all. Only eight points worth rounding
- 5:30that out because he's busy coaching and winning medals and
- 5:34doing things of that nature. Sir lucious had 34 points close,
- 5:40Only after that, we've got the governor with 36 points.
- 5:45Second from the best. We've got Clyde with 37 points.
- 5:51Need you to refer to me, I'm gonna need you to refer to me as
- 5:54the Silver Medal. Winner first out is and then I'm
- 6:03sorry. Sir, you failed?
- 6:05Absolutely. As I've been told I won the
- 6:10silver medal absolutely failed to win the competition which was
- 6:14the goal But I demand a Florida style recount, no one, including
- 6:20the audience believes that big lead to one the predicts that by
- 6:24100 by this guy. That is literally the definition
- 6:29of a blind squirrel Theory. No, not really because if you
- 6:34look, I asked guideline everything, believe me.
- 6:36I doubted it. So, I looked over, and it was,
- 6:40it was literally, I mean, from 32 to 44, That's 12 points.
- 6:46And it was literally the back end stuff, I guess the men's job
- 6:51correctly and I'm not going to say, guess what?
- 6:53Those rephrase that I got? Yes.
- 6:55And and then we had a few of us had.
- 7:04Excuse me, we're taking the silver and then that legit how
- 7:11to use, I don't know how to say that, but in third, well, I was
- 7:15The one who put him in third, but we all had the same names in
- 7:17different orders besides you Governor.
- 7:20So that's that's mainly what the competition was was for the most
- 7:24part, everybody had the right name.
- 7:27Justin not the right order and why do we do this the right way
- 7:31and stop with the conjecture and nonsense.
- 7:34Congratulations. Big to great job.
- 7:37Thank you. No, I've not been lost a couple
- 7:55times. It's not a lot of times.
- 7:58But so, I mean and / the competition.
- 8:04We either got the first place right and nothing else first and
- 8:09third switch, none of them, right?
- 8:12You know, there is there's quite a few that there are fat goose
- 8:15eggs, all the way across. I mean, the 400 meter hurdles,
- 8:18men side would have been a goose egg had, the governor.
- 8:22I not chose Trevor Bassett to take the brought Clearly we need
- 8:27something about that. I mean we all goose egg men
- 8:29shot, third place, men's long dress.
- 8:34Yeah. I mean Men's long jump, we all
- 8:37goose egg the gold silver. We predicted halfway through.
- 8:41And then goose egg to the bronze, a saddle goose, egg
- 8:45meant to be running through it. We still want the recount from
- 8:51Florida, but you either way. Congratulations, you are.
- 8:55So let me say this one more time, you got the crown for now,
- 9:00we're not conceding the election.
- 9:05Well so that is the all things LLC predictions for World
- 9:16Champs, but congratulations. Now, let's get to the real
- 9:22stuff, right? So her something that was on the
- 9:26internet. We're going to go along the
- 9:28lines of it and we are going to, I am going to go ask the child.
- 9:35What do you think the best performance was of the
- 9:38championship? I don't know how I think that's
- 9:45not a very long answer 5068 and it's done.
- 9:50I mean, that's for me anyway. I mean, okay, you know, and I
- 9:54think that for me, there's a the 12 12 is pretty impressive as
- 9:58well. I'm giving wrong but fifty,
- 10:02sixty eight and six. Fifty, sixty eight and I'm done.
- 10:16I mean, come on. As I'm done, she dismantled a
- 10:20world-class field. Just took?
- 10:22Well, yeah, it was so wild about it, right?
- 10:25Is it? I feel like so I'm old enough to
- 10:28have seen this happen. One time before Michael Johnson
- 10:31ran 40 38 in the in the semi in Seville, and he stopped running
- 10:37110 meters or so from the finish line.
- 10:39So when the day of the final, every single Human being that
- 10:43walked through the gate full-on expected or world record.
- 10:47So when he didn't run 40 29, There was this muted response to
- 10:52a world record like oh, that's good.
- 10:56Oh, it's one record like the same thing happened with shit
- 10:59like every single human being full on news.
- 11:02You going to break the world record, it was just to see how
- 11:04fast it was. And at one point in time, I
- 11:06think everyone of us going into the 10th Turtle.
- 11:10I think I couldn't be the only person.
- 11:11That is number 49 seconds. It's like, listen up based on
- 11:16where she was and look at the clock.
- 11:18I'm like, that's possible. Don't think it's good but it's
- 11:20possible. I don't remember the order of
- 11:24seats because we were all basically sitting together for
- 11:27that race but I know for certain I was closest to Sir lucious and
- 11:32at hurdle 5il 50/50 because it was that ridiculous and but
- 11:43listen. It's I don't want to get lost
- 11:49and not mention, totally. I'm a sign because she's not an
- 11:53American. And ultimately what she did is
- 11:56going to go less recognized by people in this country and shows
- 12:01like this podcast and stuff, like I didn't think anything
- 12:05will get close to 50 50, 50, 60, 80, Toby got damn close.
- 12:10Okay, she goddamn close but it's said and And the fact that she's
- 12:17done what she is done at 22 years old, and her, and her
- 12:22coach basically have said. Yeah, we're going to go play
- 12:25another game now, we're bored. Like, that's all you need to
- 12:29understand about how epically in saying that that race was how
- 12:35Flawless it was. And they said they thought there
- 12:38was going to be a little faster, so if you ask Bobby K, he's not
- 12:41going to say it was Flawless, but from where we were sitting
- 12:44Flawless, one person, having replayed, both, in my mind, the
- 12:53thing that sticks out to me and I mentioned it briefly folks are
- 13:00going back to the drawing board. For those two events.
- 13:06There are splits that Toby ran that.
- 13:12We're talking point nine one. Yeah.
- 13:15Splits like these are things that have been.
- 13:20Oh yeah. I mean is it possible?
- 13:22Yeah. But have we seen anyone do it.
- 13:26Have we seen anyone? Slo-mo just watching just how
- 13:33she's moving in between the hurdles.
- 13:35You know, break in the hips. It almost looks like a pogo,
- 13:39stick. Folks are looking at.
- 13:40What is she doing coming off the hurdle?
- 13:43Like I feel like it's all just, you know, it's one thing to
- 13:50watch, someone go around the track, right?
- 13:53It's another thing. When it's just that straight and
- 13:56you don't have time, you don't have time to think you don't
- 14:00have time to adjust. It is.
- 14:03I mean, it is like that, I mean so, I feel like there's I think
- 14:11if there's a revolution we're more likely to see it in the 100
- 14:16hurdles, then we will the 400 Hertz because you're going to,
- 14:24you're going to go tell the next class for hurdlers that 50-point
- 14:30like, seriously, like we're trying that likes to get.
- 14:36For us women at Fifty Point. Right.
- 14:40Actually I think about it like this.
- 14:42Think about how long it took to get to 40 678.
- 14:46Yeah. And that's what this is going to
- 14:49be. This is unless she does it know.
- 14:53It's kind of like, you know, Jackie's.
- 14:55No pep record, right? Yeah.
- 14:57You just put things out there that people going to chase for a
- 15:00very, very long time, very, very long time.
- 15:02Like yeah, I mean it's hot. I mean, 100% percent.
- 15:09I do I do want to say this one thing though about about Toby
- 15:12office. Obviously, since performance is
- 15:16the performance of the meat, but I'm going to say this every one
- 15:19of us has experienced this in coach this, when somebody runs
- 15:23away faster than they ever have, like, your body does weird
- 15:26things. so then I don't know what's going on Toby's Bobby
- 15:30body because she ran three times at Worlds, 12:40 12:12 and 1206
- 15:3712:40 legal, 1212 legal 1206 2.5 win, like, folks, that's that's
- 15:45not different. That's a whole nother Planet
- 15:47different because the last two runs were on the same day.
- 15:51Yeah, right. And then I mean, look, There are
- 15:59almost no world records that aren't filled events where the
- 16:04world where someone who has bettered, the world record twice
- 16:08in one day. Right, it's happened was not
- 16:13very not very many times ever now I know that the second one
- 16:16is windy, but let's be clear if it's not windy is still faster
- 16:20than 1220 great. So so we got two runs better
- 16:26than the WR, and that is just different.
- 16:31You know, like it takes a 50 60 68 out of the Sid.
- 16:35Otherwise there's no way that we don't talk about anything but
- 16:38Toby I'm assuming. So she definitely gets at least
- 16:41a one be out of me because to do it.
- 16:43Three times is different. Absolutely.
- 16:48I mean there's Nuance to to what's it did, right?
- 16:53Like she got seventh place in the open 400 with the herbs.
- 17:01So it has to be sick but right, you're absolutely right.
- 17:05Like Tony, cannot go ignore and, you know, 20 years from now.
- 17:10You will remember both of those performances because they were
- 17:15just that good. Absolutely.
- 17:17It's and this is the thing. You have to think about with
- 17:19told you can 5068, is another planet, right?
- 17:22Right. But Toby was .07 away from
- 17:27running. 1199 over there are lights.
- 17:30Right Frank, when she crossed the Finish Line.
- 17:34Because because last number what, the numbers were 11, and
- 17:37then it goes 12. But because, if that thing stops
- 17:40in 1199, I think we all just passed out, like 68.
- 17:47But I mean, I think that because of where it came from because
- 17:50the 1206 was windy that took some shot off in for some
- 17:53people, not for me but like I watched her run 12:40 in the
- 17:58first round. She's got like a little rat.
- 18:00Zoom, super easy. And then back to the to the sick
- 18:05thing. She got her till 5:00.
- 18:07Clyde, absolutely said 50/50. And as he said, 50/50, I stood
- 18:11up and start yelling, just stay on your feet on your feet.
- 18:15You know, the whole, the whole last, the last World I just
- 18:18can't stay on your feet because we do have some and I want to
- 18:24give a shout-out to my for doing what Mondo has learned to do
- 18:29best. Play the heck out of the crowd
- 18:31of the situation, right? And your percent because oh my
- 18:34God, because you watch his first attempt at. 6:21, never had any
- 18:40intention to try to make clear that part.
- 18:42No none. So, but what about, how about
- 18:46the when you talk about orchestrated, the 4x4 is over.
- 18:53Right. The floor is yours.
- 18:56That's what we're talking about. Yeah.
- 18:58Wait sir. No, no.
- 18:59That was done on purpose because of the weight.
- 19:03No no it was like that wasn't his run.
- 19:22It was like he was doing I'm up to keep it.
- 19:23Do some kind of a blowout took to get him ready for the 2010.
- 19:27Yeah and now he knows we're now going to go run the 4 y 4 and
- 19:30the floors is it was amazing as soon as he planted the pole
- 19:35everybody was like oh yeah whom did washing clothes right?
- 19:40Everybody to do themselves a favor.
- 19:43You're going to have to dig because I'm sure somebody has
- 19:46video of it. Find his jump at 594 and then
- 19:50you will understand why? No one.
- 19:53One was surprised because he made 594 my 40 centimeters.
- 19:58Hmm. And let's be clear.
- 20:00Mondo, easily. Mondo is extremely smart.
- 20:03He's the, you know, master manipulator of the game right
- 20:06now and it's great for the sport, right?
- 20:08But the reason we're not giving Mondo, you know, the throne here
- 20:15is because we all know if he wanted to jump like 6:30, he
- 20:18probably could, but we're in, we're in Boca.
- 20:22Yeah. Yeah, it's alright.
- 20:25That's all for this, for the sake of the crowd and he owned
- 20:28it. And he absolutely waited until
- 20:31the floor. Was it?
- 20:32I mean those of us those of us that that understood what the
- 20:36payment structure and how it was paid out for each world record
- 20:41for Booker right. When once we got wind of that
- 20:45when we understood this man only had to break it by centimeter.
- 20:50By the time I mean, come on man, it was, that's where Mom do is
- 20:55now. That's right, you know, keep
- 20:57getting paid for it too. I mean huge, here's the funny
- 21:00part right? Like Mondo, just broke the World
- 21:02Outdoor record and it's not even a PB, I've heard some 622
- 21:06indoors. Yes, right.
- 21:08It's like so what are we doing? Like, get admit, paid demand his
- 21:12money, he's making sure that each time.
- 21:15That's right. Yep.
- 21:16So he's got it, right? The one thing I was going to say
- 21:19is Because I've had a conversation and I've seen the
- 21:22conversation when the internet. I think it's funny.
- 21:24How people are trying to dispel debunk allegations.
- 21:29Whatever. Word you want to use about the
- 21:32specifically Toby, but there was a whisper of it with Sydney
- 21:36about how like she's drugging or this or the time, the time
- 21:40wasn't right or all these things, they're doing exactly
- 21:42what we asked them to do. And this is what happens is, you
- 21:45get these amazing times, right? And that's what we tell the
- 21:47athletes that we work with. When you do great things great
- 21:51things happen. No, I'm sweating.
- 21:54So glad that you did not let us forget that too.
- 21:56Okay, so you know, I'll go ahead and get into it because I don't
- 22:01really care. I'm not here for any of the
- 22:04Michael Johnson slander or accusations of the clock is
- 22:08somehow wrong in the women's hurdles.
- 22:11Look man, I don't know what your problem is, that was a clownish
- 22:14thing to say, you sound ridiculous and I don't
- 22:18understand how Like at they should have cut his mind like
- 22:22that is absolutely a clownish thing to say or even if he
- 22:25doesn't open any of that. Even the doping allegation, like
- 22:29maybe it's not an obligation anytime.
- 22:32Somebody runs fast people going to accuse him of them, there's
- 22:35people out there accusing said of dope, right?
- 22:38We're used to that. Wow, for a man of Michael
- 22:41Johnson, stature to have the platform of being one of the
- 22:45main announcers for BBC. When trust me BBC audience
- 22:50watching the meat, probably bigger than America's, right?
- 22:53Is sitting there slandering the timing system as if she can't do
- 22:57that. And then she comes back and does
- 22:59it again in the finals. Like, stop it, man.
- 23:01Like that. That's ridiculous.
- 23:03I, I made a comment on Twitter and really what it boils down to
- 23:10is that that semifinal has to be the greatest.
- 23:17In the history of track and field.
- 23:21When you talk about the sheer volume of athletes, we're
- 23:26talking National records season this personal bests were like
- 23:31world record, right? And I have never in my life,
- 23:37seen a situation where everybody was on point, right?
- 23:44And and you know they talk about Out, you know, like even in a
- 23:49team environment you know how it's shaped like a pyramid and
- 23:54that kid that's at the top is being pushed by all those people
- 23:59underneath, right? All those people that are less
- 24:02talented, all those people that, you know, that are out there
- 24:05just slugging it out, right? In, if you look at it in
- 24:09retrospect, Toby doesn't run that world record if she doesn't
- 24:14have the elk and the caliber of kids that were in that race with
- 24:19her, that she knew, right? It, because that that look, man,
- 24:25I mean, the fact that only a Chosen Few fell I mean think
- 24:32about like I I still go through that in my head and it's just
- 24:36like mind-boggling. So I made a I made a I made a
- 24:39statement that You know, the the right, all these PBS, all these
- 24:46personal, bests, all of this stuff, I'd never seen it before.
- 24:50I've never seen all of it happen.
- 24:52All at one time. Well and it's great.
- 24:57I think it's great for the sport.
- 24:59I'm going to hold what I want to say for later in these questions
- 25:02but I'm gonna come back to that. All right, well if we're good
- 25:07with it, let's go back. Let's go next to the biggest
- 25:09upset. All right, I have one.
- 25:15I mean tell me what you got. Go ahead.
- 25:18Mine's men's long stroke. Men's long jump while grooming
- 25:23okay? Okay look.
- 25:24Can you give make that case? I like that picture?
- 25:27Tell me why? Because he wasn't even in from
- 25:31conversation that you saw an online conversation in the
- 25:34stadium. He wasn't top four.
- 25:38It wasn't really like in consideration when he pops one
- 25:41off, I don't remember. I don't remember what number
- 25:46that was, was it number four, number five, in his attempt 5,
- 25:50and it didn't look like, he couldn't jump in and just got
- 25:54lucky again. He put it all together at the
- 25:57right time and he had something great happen.
- 26:00That was definitely a big upset and one that I liked watching
- 26:04like that. Yeah.
- 26:06But for I'm, you know, for an event that didn't have a lot of
- 26:09highlights like that was that was a great moment there.
- 26:12But for me, I mean come on, the biggest upset is the Women's USA
- 26:16for by one beating Jamaica. There was no bigger
- 26:20overwhelming. Favorite in the meat than the
- 26:22Jamaican women in the 4 by 1 and for the u.s. other than the u.s.
- 26:27minute before I want. Not not, not bigger than
- 26:32Jamaican women. No, no, because list other than
- 26:36Noah Lyles, nobody thought, the u.s. men had a shot at the world
- 26:39record. Everybody was talking trash.
- 26:44Okay. So let's forget the, the idiocy
- 26:47of the world record. Let's please not go.
- 26:48Delve into that nonsense. I'm not delving into.
- 26:51We're gonna talk about. What did you making?
- 26:56Women were huge favorites. As were the u.s. men.
- 27:00Well, that could be our big. We me and a whole lot of people
- 27:19when we get things wrong in the relay, especially in the 4 by 1,
- 27:23we got a lot to say and rightfully so in my opinion,
- 27:27when we get it, right? And it's executed I think we
- 27:32have to stand up and give props to those young women and to
- 27:36Michelle Lewis, who put the thing together.
- 27:38If you watch the final, the spacing was right.
- 27:41Proper decisions. Were made substituting a be
- 27:44Steiner for number two, and they ran their asses off.
- 27:47Like I If you look at the, if you look at all the analytics
- 27:51I'm not sure how that particular group of women could have run
- 27:53much better, so for them to do that in that moment on that
- 27:57stage and upset the Humming favorites, who at who, at least
- 28:0260% of the world thought was going to trash the world record.
- 28:05That's for me is the biggest upset.
- 28:08I are we doing this again, the question is big as upset and I'm
- 28:12making my case. You make it then talk about the
- 28:15ups and quit talking about the world because there's no there's
- 28:19no world really where 60% of the population not to work with.
- 28:30Our conversations and chat group is not 60 percent of the
- 28:33population, sir, the population of track Community.
- 28:37Yes sir. All right next.
- 28:40Anyway next. So for me and this the this I
- 28:47would have to say in the men's 1500 and that Jake Whiteman.
- 28:54Hmm, I have no idea who Jake Whiteman is now I don't prefer
- 29:00Jess to be respectfully. I don't profess to know the ins
- 29:11and outs of the men's 1500, but I do know who Jacob ingebrigtsen
- 29:15is and I do respect that man's hustle.
- 29:19And I know for a fact, That more than 80 or 90 percent of the
- 29:25world that watches the 1500 and is that are enthusiasts about
- 29:31the 1500 thought that Jacob made in Britain, was going to win
- 29:35that race. And when it was, you know, we're
- 29:39talking 150 to go, and I'm like, what am I watching here?
- 29:45Like who, who is this? And then the story starts
- 29:50unfolding, you know that his dad is announcing watching his son,
- 29:57win the World Championship Whole Meadow like yeah I mean you
- 30:02don't you don't those are things you can't pay for like that's
- 30:07that's the magic that track and field brings.
- 30:11I mean, I'm trying to imagine if there'd been a betting line,
- 30:15what would have happened? You know to Those few that said
- 30:18yeah I'm gonna go with a brick. I'm going to go with the bread
- 30:21on this one. Okay already made 1 million
- 30:25dollars. What would have happened?
- 30:28Exactly, so yeah, men's 1500 for me.
- 30:33I'll jump in there. I'm going to give a play answer
- 30:36in a real answer. My play answer is that um our
- 30:40Rojas did not break the world record.
- 30:45I think I do No, no, I'm kidding but but it's like, honestly, I
- 30:50think all of us were surprised but we're doing surprise later
- 30:53sir. I know.
- 30:55So my upset is in the women's discus. because the Chinese came
- 31:01to play and they were, they were all about some upsets this week
- 31:05and, you know, I've done this once one time to a field and
- 31:12it's pretty awesome. When you can just take control
- 31:16of the competition with a sixth round, jump in your first round.
- 31:22So and that obviously in their case, a six-round throw when
- 31:25you're first round. And then you just watch the
- 31:27entire field, just get tighter and like, every round, just
- 31:30getting Tighter and Tighter and Tighter, trying to throw that
- 31:35far. Yeah, it was amazing first row,
- 31:39the competition and we're done, thank you.
- 31:40I'll take that and Valerie thought she had it, done twice.
- 31:46Yeah, yeah, she thought she had it done twice agents screaming,
- 31:50and yeah. Yeah.
- 31:52Yeah, that's why. I mean for me it was the u.s.
- 31:58women's 4 by 10 K and kudos to Michelle for having to put up
- 32:05with all the nonsense of people, try to tell her who to run a
- 32:07water ride and all that stuff. I do agree that the Jamaicans
- 32:14weren't overwhelming favorite and I think that the Jamaicans
- 32:20forgot to they need a lot. A up and pass the Baton.
- 32:23They forgot that they needed to consider the War.
- 32:25I think they thought they could just throw them out there and
- 32:27say whatever they wanted to throw and they were going to
- 32:29win. No.
- 32:30And bottom line is, I don't think there's anybody on this
- 32:34planet. The saw that group of ladies,
- 32:36141 one. Nobody not one of us number and
- 32:42so see that's the thing. Like, when that behind popped
- 32:46up, when the time popped up? The time was more impressive
- 32:51than the episode for me. You know, everybody wants to
- 32:53talk about the fact that we be Jamaican and it's great
- 32:56accomplishment but 4114 for that group of young ladies is feed
- 33:01nominal. Yes, in a way they did it.
- 33:04They, you know, this is the beauty of having people that
- 33:08have run relays. No, not that.
- 33:12Not a lot of people including myself.
- 33:13Totally agree with prandini being on there, but after
- 33:16watching the semi-final, you knew why she was learning Right.
- 33:19100% because of her steadying titi's hand, and she get rid of
- 33:25the time, you know? Yeah, that was, that was the
- 33:27Evelyn Ashford to Esther Jones moment from back up and then,
- 33:31right? And so watching them, run,
- 33:35clearly, Miss Jefferson was pissed that she didn't run well
- 33:38in the hundred and she's like, I'm going to show you who I am.
- 33:41No. Yeah.
- 33:42Abby was a b and let's get this. Give TT credit, but she could
- 33:47have easily left are only, she could have panic.
- 33:49Going to fold it but she's like know how many woman in her
- 33:53position would have gotten tight because everybody on in that
- 33:59stadium watching worldwide you knew that she had to do was come
- 34:04you know isn't this absolutely like that's what makes a good
- 34:10anchor leg. You know they're coming but you
- 34:12can't worry about that. That's right.
- 34:15You got to keep pumping man. You got to run to the line and
- 34:19If they catch you, they catch you that, that's right.
- 34:21And and to that point, like I had a bunch of arguments off
- 34:26cameras, and privately, in text messages and held in the stadium
- 34:30at times with like house TT on the anchor.
- 34:34Like, guys, this is what TT is good at like this is what she
- 34:38does, okay, she's been doing in my thing, you know, like I said
- 34:43it can't be lost. Michelle Lewis put three rookies
- 34:45out there. Yeah really?
- 34:48Yeah. 3. Melissa Jefferson was in the
- 34:51NCAA this year, okay? Abby was in the NCAA this year
- 34:55and it's titi's. First, seasoned Pro.
- 34:57Yeah, people three rookies out there, that takes a lot of guts,
- 35:00but it was the, it was The Savvy veteran, who doesn't have the
- 35:05fastest 100-meter time who didn't make the 200 meter final?
- 35:09That ultimately was the key and in the right spot for the Relay.
- 35:13So like I said, man, just Bravo across the board to them.
- 35:16Like they, they ran their ass off and I agree with lucious. 41
- 35:201. Yeah.
- 35:22Like if you're an analytics person and you care about the
- 35:26four by one and you study it understand that two, three and
- 35:31four collectively. Yeah, ran equal to the world
- 35:35record time from 2012. Yeah, that's how good they did.
- 35:40That's how good they did. Yeah, I'm a nominal job.
- 35:47All right, I did everybody go. Okay, I don't know why.
- 35:52I thought whatever way you want. Now onto one that we've already
- 35:56alluded to biggest surprise of the meat EP since you'll eat
- 36:04your answer already, may as well go ahead, sure, I mean listen I
- 36:11thought I've watched you a ma Rojas compete a lot and with her
- 36:19not being Loud too long jump. I thought she was going to show
- 36:24up and jump 1650 or something crazy and just like show the
- 36:28whole world like this is dumb and she didn't jump poorly.
- 36:32Let's be clear. I mean she was dominant as
- 36:34always, but she didn't bring a record and I was actually sort
- 36:39of surprised because we all know like every time she jumps that's
- 36:44a possibility so I don't know. I was just I mean there's
- 36:48probably bigger surprises but that one was for me a big one.
- 36:51Cuz I was actually somewhat surprised, because the way she
- 36:54competes usually is like, somebody's pissed her off.
- 36:58I think she's like, Alan Johnson.
- 36:59I think she makes things up because because she's been
- 37:03dominant for a long time, but she still comes out for the
- 37:07mean, you can tell she liked, she competes like somebody,
- 37:10somebody talked about her mama, you know what I mean?
- 37:12Like she is fired up. A lot of intensity, I didn't
- 37:16sense. There's a lot of stuff for me.
- 37:23Staying in that same event. We saw the first u.s. woman when
- 37:29the meadow in Georgia in the history of the event on this
- 37:39panel, saw Tori. Franklin, let's put it like
- 37:42this. I thought that the other female
- 37:47from the US would have been the one, but Tory freed.
- 37:52I I have not seen her compete. I had not seen anything of her.
- 37:58She shows up and puts one of her best jumps out there in the last
- 38:04four years. That is the longest.
- 38:06She's jumping up in the last four years.
- 38:10To pull out a third place, metal kudos to Tori Franklin, went
- 38:15over to Greece. She's coached by coaching
- 38:18Greece. You know, and you know it's one
- 38:22of those things that I think as a jumps coach you know we have
- 38:26always had this thing. This nagging thing in the back
- 38:30of her head, why are the Europeans that much further
- 38:33ahead in a triple jump? And, and I would say in some
- 38:36cases the high jump as well. And for her to pick herself up
- 38:43move or base of operations over the over the grease and and get
- 38:48in there and train the way they train kudos to her, you know,
- 38:53sometimes you have to, you have to get it done.
- 38:55It doesn't matter how you get it done.
- 38:57Just get it done. And she's got to be gratified,
- 39:01she's got to be in. This is something that she's
- 39:04been chasing for a very, very long time.
- 39:07Biggest surprise to me toward Frank, Oh man.
- 39:17I still the US women in the for Hawaii.
- 39:46And she's not going to catch his not going to catch your name.
- 39:49Clyde was saying. She's gonna catch up like, no,
- 39:50she's not. Shriek was coming now.
- 39:53Let's, let's, let's be real. Let's be real.
- 39:57We were having conversations about, could the Americans beat
- 40:01the great Brits. Yes, right.
- 40:03Honey. That was our conversation and
- 40:06you percent. So I mad at that.
- 40:09Pick for biggest surprise at all, not at all.
- 40:15And and Governor Kudos, that was that was really good pick.
- 40:18You got me thinking there but I mean, my biggest surprise is
- 40:25Toby. I'm sorry, it's kind of hard to
- 40:31argue with that, though. I mean, listen, like Toby's
- 40:34really, really good and she's been really good for a while.
- 40:40Nobody outside outside. I don't even think Toby saw the
- 40:44world record coming because The video and watch your face.
- 40:47Yeah. Okay.
- 40:48So I'm going to say her coach believe and props to her but no
- 40:53one had Alesana, right? Yeah, no one saw Toby.
- 40:58I'm a saint breaking, the world record, no one saw, Toby Alice
- 41:01on winning the event, no one. So to me, that, that is
- 41:06absolutely the biggest surprise, and I mean, we did world record
- 41:12predictions, right? Glue the tube that the women's
- 41:17hurdles could get broke. Nobody was thinking about
- 41:19tomiyama Toby Amazon doing so no shot.
- 41:22That is that is for me, the biggest surprise by.
- 41:25Here's a, here's a lemon. Add another layer to that
- 41:29surprise. When it was broadcast that, that
- 41:33was the first gold medal that Nigeria has ever worn, right?
- 41:41For the folks that are watching think about the Legacy and the
- 41:47level of athletes that come from that country.
- 41:51Yes, year after year, after year after year after year and for
- 41:56this young lady to be the first gold medalist.
- 42:00I mean it's been there is there follow Toby amundsen on Twitter.
- 42:06There are great videos from Nigeria of kids.
- 42:11Raishin. Yeah, the pool typically young
- 42:13girls from her school in this flocking to the news that she
- 42:18won. Like I mean she's a God in that
- 42:20country now. All right Lisa and if I'll God I
- 42:24hope I can find it fast enough. There was a she put out a tweet.
- 42:29I hope I get this wrong as I'm not going to take the time to
- 42:31find it right now, but basically Back in the day, you know, that
- 42:36that's a pretty religious country.
- 42:38Her her father would want, father, would demand that she be
- 42:41at church. Yes, mother would cover for her
- 42:44while she was sneaking out to practice and her father, like,
- 42:47disowned her over it. Like imagine the weight of stuff
- 42:52like that, right? So I mean it's a great story.
- 42:55It's a great story. So I want to throw a small piece
- 42:58of backstory to Toby's story. Yes, please.
- 43:02And I listen, I'm not trying to throw shade and I really I
- 43:05really need people to hone into this nothing that I'm saying is
- 43:08- Toby I'm a saint was at Clemson and she was literally
- 43:16like the seventh. If not the eighth, best hurdler
- 43:20at the school and long story short, She and the coach agreed,
- 43:27she should move on to a different school because she was
- 43:30never going to be able to live up the scholarship levels and
- 43:35the people in front of her, we're better than her.
- 43:37One of those people was Kenny, Harrison.
- 43:40Hmm. One of those people was brown
- 43:44and Rollins. Wow, right.
- 43:48So I want everybody to lock in to what is going on.
- 43:52That is perseverance and an internal belief that is required
- 43:58to be great when you're not anointed from the beginning.
- 44:02Absolutely. So, I just wanted to stick that
- 44:05in there. So people understood like, this
- 44:08young lady. At one point, I'm couldn't
- 44:10couldn't win a rep to the bathroom in her training group
- 44:13because everybody was better than her.
- 44:16Yeah, she was, never not good but the assemblage of talent in
- 44:20front of her at the time was legitimately better.
- 44:28More not anymore. My two cents real quick, the
- 44:35Chinese winning two field events and not a Sprint.
- 44:40I thought that was pretty surprising.
- 44:42Not because I have a bias towards that team, but because
- 44:45in this issue, but in the disc in the long jump, right?
- 44:50And I'll even say this saying did catch air and wasn't able to
- 44:55get relatively close to it again but right time, right Pro and
- 44:59that's what you do, right? That's when pb's happened but
- 45:05for those two events to be won by an an organized Federation
- 45:10who Ooh, who hasn't in the history performed in power
- 45:16event, right? And and now, it started to
- 45:18change. So, for that to happen, I
- 45:20thought that was really surprising, and, and great to
- 45:22see just like we saw in the men's Joplin tornado winning
- 45:28India. Taking second, you know, and how
- 45:30these other nations are now rising to the top.
- 45:32And I thought that was pretty amazing to see.
- 45:35Surprising to see at the very least. alright, the next
- 45:41question is, who is the best young athlete?
- 45:47So I do have a question. What what is it what constitute
- 45:50young like quote real? That was gonna be my next
- 45:52question to. I mean, like, we talked about
- 45:54this a little bit last week. I mean, there's area and there's
- 45:58there's a data since 22, 23 years old.
- 46:01She's young, right? So I think it's just you talking
- 46:06about, if young is twenty-three twenty-two, twenty-three is Sid.
- 46:11I mean, if you're talking about the teenagers eyes area on, but
- 46:15there's a lot of great young, Yeah, actually, if you sum up
- 46:19teenagers, it's Thing mo. Right in Europe right - well I
- 46:26mean look listen. Okay.
- 46:28Clearly I'm the, you know, probably third biggest area on
- 46:33night and fan right on this planet.
- 46:35I'm not going to take credit for, you know, my parents, are
- 46:38you? But it's just like numerical
- 46:41numbers, right? Like mean there were a year
- 46:45apart in age and she has an Olympic gold medal, a world
- 46:47championship gold medal. That's one reason I said that.
- 46:49Okay, so we're talking about metals.
- 46:52Of course the performance, right?
- 46:55The management 1949 So sir, I t49 all your new on your new
- 47:02miracle. Whatever you call the tables.
- 47:05No. Be in the decathlete that you
- 47:06are. Guarantee you get more points
- 47:09for 1949 and you get for 155. Now, we'll leave it there.
- 47:12Look, I think they're both phenomenal.
- 47:15I don't want to pick between either.
- 47:16One of them, you know, all these 94 digestible points that, you
- 47:19know, it's tough. I mean I'll just say this.
- 47:23I wouldn't want to be look. Here's the definition of bad
- 47:27birthdays. What's the other other teenage
- 47:29young lady? That's interesting because she's
- 47:33a monster Fortunately another land of monsters.
- 47:39So when you talk about that, okay, she belongs in the
- 47:41conversation as well because she's last year she was three or
- 47:47four tenths back this year. She 700s back.
- 47:51That story is not fit, has not been totally written there yet,
- 47:54so that's a great battle and I'm here to watch it.
- 47:59I think that It's going to be a great, great battle for many.
- 48:04Many years to come. For me, I will defer to the
- 48:11youngest. I mean let's let's call it what
- 48:16it is. No one that kids age had ever
- 48:23won a medal. Okay.
- 48:26Like I don't care who your coach is, I don't care what you have
- 48:32or the Army behind you or whatever.
- 48:35To have the intestinal fortitude of putting down three races of
- 48:41that quality and to come to that final, right?
- 48:47He could easily have been distracted by, you know, the
- 48:51young man outside of them. You could have been distracted
- 48:55by how many other things, the kid had just gone to his prom.
- 48:59Okay. Like we're still talking about a
- 49:02teenager, right? Not a teenager that's in
- 49:05college. Not this kid is in high school.
- 49:10Okay. And he comes to the world
- 49:12championships and gets a bronze medal.
- 49:15Are you kidding me? And I want to go on the record
- 49:19as saying that world Athletics need to do a little reprieve of
- 49:23how they draw the lanes, just like, let the record show.
- 49:28Nobody was beating Noah? No, this is not about Noah,
- 49:33right? But he's not stuck down in Lane
- 49:35three. He doesn't get the bronze.
- 49:38Your no, no, disrespect Aquino disrespected, dentist, but
- 49:42Kenny's in five, season 3, it makes a difference.
- 49:45Can we pause on that because And I think all of us are pretty
- 49:49well-versed in the sport and we were a little confused about how
- 49:53this works ourselves. So there are three semi-finals.
- 50:00Yep for whatever ridiculous. Please bring back the 275 but
- 50:04anyway there are three semi-finals.
- 50:07So there are three heat winners. And for some dumbass reason, we
- 50:13take the fastest of the second place dudes and anoint them into
- 50:19the lane. Draw Shuffle of the people who
- 50:21won the heat right down. That doesn't make any sense at
- 50:27any level. If your second, your second, if
- 50:29your first your first, and because there's floor before you
- 50:34find it forever. So the sticks get thrown in a
- 50:36blender. That's what you don't know.
- 50:38No, no, just dinner. Your winner and the fastest
- 50:42loser, right? Fastest, second-place finish.
- 50:45Second place guy, and in this play the blind.
- 50:47Hey, Kenny been there kick. Who was the fastest.
- 50:51Second place guy ended up in five and Ariane who was a heat,
- 50:55a semifinal winner ended up in three right in the second
- 50:58fastest time. From this demos ended up it,
- 51:00right? So there's many layers to this.
- 51:03First of all, that is wrong. Why are we including the second
- 51:06place person in the, in the shuffle?
- 51:09But further than that. Oregon is a nine Lane track.
- 51:15Why we're running in Lane one at all is nonsensical, but that's a
- 51:19side issue to me. But what's the worst part about
- 51:23that part? Just add, I don't want to cut
- 51:24you off some to stay right there is that I think that's a world
- 51:27Athletics rule. I don't think you can break a
- 51:30world record in Lane nine and I think that's why they run one
- 51:33through eight. Now you can run lean on you
- 51:35because in that when Randy correctly now What does he have
- 51:40to check? No, I think real was inhaling
- 51:42track. But here's the thing that's
- 52:05really, really well. Why is laying three considered a
- 52:10preferred Lane? Even if you're running one
- 52:13through eight, it should be seven, six, five and four.
- 52:18So at every level this thing is just wrong and Arian wasn't the
- 52:23only person who ended up in Lane three that shouldn't have been
- 52:25there. There were others but like this
- 52:28means, um, this is an easy fix. Can we just get to something
- 52:31even more? Like, just quintessentially,
- 52:33silly silly. Why do we race and have semi
- 52:37final winners to then go into a hopper and get randomized?
- 52:43That's right, just see. Like I don't even make this
- 52:46isn't making sense, okay? All right.
- 52:48On the same track on the same day.
- 52:50Just seen it and for the record since we're since we're
- 52:53complaining. Rightfully, so about seeding and
- 52:56Lane draws, let me be clear about this one, because this one
- 52:59also pissed me off. In the turn of events 200-400
- 53:04they block out lanes. One and two for the worse, the
- 53:08lanes. And those lanes are reserved for
- 53:10the little cubes totally understand that.
- 53:14But in the hundred and in the hurdles they still block out
- 53:19lanes 1 and 2 for the little cues.
- 53:21So someone like Dina Asher Smith who was not a Time qualifier she
- 53:27got the big Q. She got stuck out in Lane eight.
- 53:32Yeah, Trayvon bromell was stuck in Lane eight.
- 53:35Why, why am I on the outside? When I got The Big Cube, these
- 53:39are simple fixes. It's just late.
- 53:43It's just lazy. I don't, I mean, does anybody
- 53:50else have a different youngest athlete?
- 53:53I mean, we we did get into this a little bit last week and I
- 53:56said it's Aryan night and it's not close.
- 53:58I do appreciate Lamar's argument and it's a good argument because
- 54:07him and the thing are so close in age.
- 54:10Clearly a thing is more accomplished.
- 54:12Absolutely. But I actually think that's
- 54:16just, that's the simple. Just It's just she's more
- 54:18accomplished. I still don't think, I don't
- 54:19think she's better than us and I think his path is harder as well
- 54:24right now. So, for me, it's still airing.
- 54:29Got it. I mean, that did a challenger
- 54:33and the thing is 20. She's not Okay good.
- 54:38That dude is a teenager to your Aunty your tenured and other
- 54:43than Solutions. Who can remember the last time
- 54:45you ran a 20-second raised to 20 second race in the fourth round
- 54:51at the start. Go out.
- 55:07There were nineteen seven right now.
- 55:11All right, next, the best event. When was our Turtles.
- 55:21I mean, I didn't know where else to go with it.
- 55:30This is what I was. This is what I held back from
- 55:32saying earlier. When the governor was getting
- 55:34into this, it's clearly the woman's hurts and the women's
- 55:38hurdles has been the hardest game on planet Earth for a long
- 55:42time. Now I don't mean in track and
- 55:45field pick a sport, it's the Hardest game on earth and in one
- 55:51competition all of a sudden 12:5 ancient no more.
- 55:55Yeah, I mean right to 1250 to make the final I'm sorry people
- 56:0012/5 until extremely recently would basically guarantee you a
- 56:06medal in most Global champion won back in 1718?
- 56:10Yes it did. I was in the building now. 12/5
- 56:15is terrible. Hot trash.
- 56:19Like that's how good the women's hurdles, that's how good I mean.
- 56:26Yeah we don't we don't need to beat this one.
- 56:29We can all be nice and play. Nice and talk about other events
- 56:32that were really good, but like there's only one answer.
- 56:35Yes. Yeah.
- 56:37All right. So opposite side of the
- 56:38spectrum, what was the worst event that we saw?
- 56:41That's interesting. Whoo, Dad, I'm not gonna say a
- 56:45worst event. I must say it.
- 56:47Country's worst performers in an event that we talked about this
- 56:50last week US Mint in the 800, don't get it, it's not that mean
- 56:56and then I'm going to say this since mins long jump.
- 57:04No disrespect to the governor. And I know that should be no no
- 57:07no, no. Because okay.
- 57:10On occasion, I don't get it like like no like Well I'm sorry.
- 57:20It's just not you know I grew up in the air grew up watching the
- 57:24battles right now. Did the battles aren't there?
- 57:2827 for isn't far? Yeah it isn't it.
- 57:32I hope you don't think I'm being elitist but if not it's not.
- 57:37You just crashed in 2008. No, I'm sorry.
- 57:47Worst event with I watched all week I will say this though.
- 57:52I don't know, I don't know cream.
- 57:53If you've actually stood on the runway and on the and on the
- 57:56actual board, I don't think it's a very good place to launch up.
- 58:02I think the I think the board setup gives too much.
- 58:05I'm not making an excuse. I don't think they'd jump.
- 58:08I don't think they jump particularly well at all as a
- 58:11group, right? Because here's the thing.
- 58:13Look, we've all seen people jump really far.
- 58:15I'm really bad facilities. That's happened.
- 58:18Christ. We become Pace to Miguel pay
- 58:20till 2018 towards the runway.
- 58:38The way things were set up in the stadium in Sydney with those
- 58:42swirling winds and the fact that it was cold.
- 58:46I mean look All that to say this, we have a problem in the
- 58:52measure 100%. Very, very big problem and the
- 58:59incentive isn't there. The want to isn't their standard
- 59:04is not there. The end.
- 59:07Nothing. I don't understand.
- 59:09Let's hope she isn't there. Even I don't feel like there is
- 59:15enough of an impetus in That events.
- 59:19I mean you just oppose that with what we saw in the men's triple
- 59:22jump. Okay, I mean you had to jump 17
- 59:27M to being a top six top seven, okay?
- 59:32So let me ask a question is seventeen meters away that far
- 59:38based on what we've were accustomed to seeing well based
- 59:42on. Okay, we just we were coming out
- 59:46of the greatest era. In my opinion, when you talk
- 59:49about that's why I'm asking ya two or three.
- 59:53Yeah that's why I'm asking ya those three athletes and what
- 59:58they did against each other to each other, it you're comparing
- 1:00:03that against the Connolly's of the world.
- 1:00:06The Kenny Harrison's of the world, the Jonathan's of the
- 1:00:08world. They carry that torch.
- 1:00:11We are not seeing the torch being carried, that's my point.
- 1:00:15Now that I wanted you to, that's what I want you to do is just,
- 1:00:17you know, To see a net. And that's my thing because
- 1:00:20like, like there just doesn't seem to be The passion for it,
- 1:00:28right? Like it did the coming to watch
- 1:00:30the mins long. Jump used to be an absolute
- 1:00:32dogfight. Now remember the the Melvin
- 1:00:35Lister and most my guy from Ole Miss Savant, a Stringfellow
- 1:00:39battles of the conference's, absolute levels.
- 1:00:41You know those those those battles like we're are those
- 1:00:43battles know like what would have happened to him?
- 1:00:47Like I don't know. What?
- 1:00:48What was the freak chains? Backfired?
- 1:00:50Where's where's those guys that? I don't know.
- 1:00:53It's, I don't know. I can't answer.
- 1:00:56Question. It's just it's tough.
- 1:00:59It's tough to watch and, you know, it was a lot said about
- 1:01:04what happened in 2012 in London, you know, and the opportunities
- 1:01:09that were there, you know, 836 111 the Olympic medal.
- 1:01:14That was one of the shortest distances ever jumped to win
- 1:01:18that gold medal. And you would think that things
- 1:01:22would have improved from there but they haven't they have not
- 1:01:25you You know, the last jumper, my opinion, that was like
- 1:01:30putting big jumps out there, you know injuries, he succumbed to
- 1:01:34injuries eventually with saladino means saladino.
- 1:01:38Was that guy? That was thinking about the
- 1:01:41world record every time he went out there, you know and you know
- 1:01:46but yeah I don't know, I'm waiting, I'm waiting for that
- 1:01:51next, you know, wunderkind to come along so, First of all sir.
- 1:02:00Lucius 100% agree. From an American perspective,
- 1:02:04800-meter men, awful, awful, and get anybody out of the first
- 1:02:11round. I have no explanation for that
- 1:02:14nonsense. There's no words for that.
- 1:02:16No, this is ridiculous. However, and I agree.
- 1:02:20The men's long jump was pretty bad overall.
- 1:02:24But for me, if the question is, if the question is worst event,
- 1:02:35Be not because of the athletes but because of the execution and
- 1:02:41the shenanigans the men's 110 hurdles was the worst event for
- 1:02:45me. I was more disappointed with the
- 1:02:48overall outcome of the men's 110 hurdles because of everything
- 1:02:53that went down, then I was with the men's loan jump because I
- 1:02:56didn't expect much out of men's long, jump.
- 1:02:57Anyway, I expected the men's once and hurdles to be one of
- 1:03:01the epic battles of the show and we I get to see that takes
- 1:03:06nothing away from Grant and what he did.
- 1:03:09But the worst event for me, the event, I walked away like Godly
- 1:03:12really was the men's One sensor. Hmm.
- 1:03:16But had nothing to do. Nothing to do with the athletes
- 1:03:18in the event that most people know, minutes of somebody
- 1:03:21getting injured, that's what I'm saying.
- 1:03:22Like like yes, go. Right ahead, like the defending
- 1:03:25Olympic champion, gets hurt doing a blowout like you already
- 1:03:27warmed up. He's already ready to go against
- 1:03:29her doing a blowout. And then fall start with that.
- 1:03:32Like we just like I said we got robbed of so much there.
- 1:03:35I'm like, yeah, yeah. I would call the Men's 110
- 1:03:38hurdles and, you know, obviously I coach the guy that won and was
- 1:03:41very anticlimactic. Yeah.
- 1:03:42Right. That's a perfect word for yes.
- 1:03:45I didn't expect much of a climax in the long jump.
- 1:03:53What was it for you? I don't know that I had.
- 1:04:00So again, this is to my rookie ship.
- 1:04:04I was still in the armored with everything comes to watching
- 1:04:07everything. Right?
- 1:04:09So that I have a hard time. I listen to all of your
- 1:04:12arguments, I can't disagree up the men Turtles.
- 1:04:14I can't disagree about everything else that's been
- 1:04:17discussed, but still at different points in each of
- 1:04:21those events or I was like, oh my God, still wide-eyed.
- 1:04:25So I can't fairly That question, unfortunately.
- 1:04:31Next year, capital from the twitterverse from the social
- 1:04:36media world as it pertains to distance.
- 1:04:41There's a big conversation out there right now about how it's
- 1:04:45okay for the Americans to be mediocre at distance and they
- 1:04:49don't get crushed for it, right? There's a big difference between
- 1:04:54not making it out of the 800 meter Heats and for example,
- 1:04:58what what Fisher did in 5K and 10K which I thought was
- 1:05:02phenomenal, like that. Dude was great.
- 1:05:05So you know us not getting a medal in things.
- 1:05:09It's not all built the same way people like you can praise
- 1:05:12Fisher for his accomplishments and absolutely trashed 800-meter
- 1:05:17who like that's not the same standard.
- 1:05:20Why don't you actually get is this this is my retort to that.
- 1:05:23Okay. So when we go to a world
- 1:05:25championships and we don't want to meddle anything from the
- 1:05:27water to the 400 hurdles, I won't hear you.
- 1:05:29Call me and say the same. Shion.
- 1:05:31That's what I'm saying is no way, you're going to say that
- 1:05:39his butt off and got four thin one and eight in the other.
- 1:05:43You're never going to say that about the Sprint and nobody's
- 1:05:45ever gonna sit about the spring, tell anybody to bash anybody,
- 1:05:48okay? Like we can't be, but I
- 1:05:50actually, I actually could retort that for you right now.
- 1:05:53I have absolutely no problem with the womens hundred meter
- 1:05:56dash people from Team USA. Okay, so, but okay, that's not a
- 1:06:01retort because it didn't happen from the hundred all the way up
- 1:06:05to the Foreigner hurdle. No.
- 1:06:06But when it happens in every single event because from every
- 1:06:11event from the 802, the 10,000 there was nothing.
- 1:06:15Okay. So now the whole wants to stay
- 1:06:17okay, okay, okay. Okay, on the women's side, but
- 1:06:20on the men's side mins, yeah, eight to ten on the women from
- 1:06:23the 15 to the 10, right? So if that same thing happened,
- 1:06:27if we ever go to a championship, And we don't get any medals and
- 1:06:31a teaspoon of hurt a little bit, you're not going to have that
- 1:06:33same conversation. There's no way that's fine.
- 1:06:36And it is nothing. You can say to me or anybody
- 1:06:39else didn't know you and your petty behind, I will be Petty
- 1:06:46when it's time to be Petty. I meant what I said about all of
- 1:06:49us. Okay, this is not about the
- 1:06:53women are talking about a group of group of events that are not
- 1:06:57held to the same standard as a Sprint and they're not Okay, I
- 1:07:00don't agree with how they're going about it and they're
- 1:07:01attacking it, okay? Okay, in my opinion, okay, we
- 1:07:06didn't do very well, we got no medals in the long jump, the
- 1:07:08triple jump high, jump on the men's side, right?
- 1:07:13Okay. Only got the one medal in the
- 1:07:14women's side of that event. Yeah, so there's a lot of
- 1:07:16Vineyards. We can do badly.
- 1:07:17We had this marvelous championships, guys, and it was
- 1:07:19phenomenal. We should be applauded for that,
- 1:07:22but being who we are, we want to see us, be who we know we should
- 1:07:26be. Yeah, we should be meddling in
- 1:07:28these events. You know, so maybe somebody to
- 1:07:33call Alberto and find out what he was doing.
- 1:07:37Oh, I mean I will say this now. See I can keep going.
- 1:08:36Look at how far he's come. Like, he's going to be back back
- 1:08:40and, and, and we'll have a guy that can metal at that.
- 1:08:42But, yeah, it was I know we are a speed and Power Country for
- 1:08:48sure. But man, do we carry the mail
- 1:08:51this time writing this being just being Power, Team carried,
- 1:08:56the mail, I think. I think if there's an excuse for
- 1:09:00World Athletics to never bring the World Championships back to
- 1:09:04the US. I think this is this is a prime
- 1:09:08reason right here because that was a shellacking.
- 1:09:12Okay, let's call it. What it is.
- 1:09:15Okay. The metals that the USA won The
- 1:09:18Meadows that in the way they performed.
- 1:09:21And the way the crowd like that's if there's anything I
- 1:09:25would regret is that I didn't get to feel that and to feel,
- 1:09:29you know, when the crowd got going, you know, night after
- 1:09:32night after night, you know, supporting us athletes young
- 1:09:37man. It was at the end of it.
- 1:09:40It was there wasn't any Going to get to 40 because
- 1:10:18there's certain Metals. Okay, look at the beginning of
- 1:10:20the week. I counted us as at least one in
- 1:10:23probably two metals in the women's 100 hurdles, I mean.
- 1:10:26Yeah. Right.
- 1:10:27Before we the weeks, when the week started, I thought we had
- 1:10:31an outside chance, outside chance at a medal in the women's
- 1:10:34200, right? When the, when the meats when
- 1:10:37the meat started, I definitely thought we had an outside chance
- 1:10:40at a medal at third place. At least in the women, the
- 1:10:43women's 400. Like again, I didn't lock these
- 1:10:45things in but I certainly thought we could win those they
- 1:10:48were chances. Yeah.
- 1:10:49Absolutely. They were legitimate chances.
- 1:10:51So like the fact that all those things went begging as that the
- 1:10:54bridge would say and we still ended up with 33 damn metals
- 1:10:57like I think the governor's listen they finally lamented to
- 1:11:02give us a championship so we can shut up because they were never
- 1:11:05going to give it to us again. Let's be clear and they gave it
- 1:11:08to us. It look it it's like black
- 1:11:09history month, right? It's the shortest coldest month
- 1:11:11of the year. They gave they gave us World
- 1:11:14Championships in a year with a European Championships and so
- 1:11:17they could have it as early as humanly possible.
- 1:11:19Yeah. Right.
- 1:11:20This is the most D emphasize. Exactly.
- 1:11:24So now let's let's be let's be fair that happened because of
- 1:11:28the pandemic. That's true.
- 1:11:30Because improving of because the championship should have been
- 1:11:32last year. Stop that, right?
- 1:11:34Big, it fell that way. Thank you, time out, time out.
- 1:11:39What are you guys talking about European championship?
- 1:11:53Yeah, so it's both sides are true.
- 1:11:56It's more about the fact that the world's came before
- 1:12:00Europeans at that is exactly. That is disrespect.
- 1:12:04That is exactly of what is supposed to be the crown jewel
- 1:12:09of our sport like hello, you know.
- 1:12:13And and when you think about, you know, when Commonwealth is
- 1:12:19like their athletes that are now coming, Off of World
- 1:12:23Championships and I don't know if you saw but like the entire
- 1:12:26Canadian Sprint Squad said, you know what?
- 1:12:29We're good. I'm not passing on Commonwealth
- 1:12:32like it's too much, it's too much.
- 1:12:36You know Governor, I know it's too much because I'm getting on
- 1:12:39a plane to go to Commonwealth Games on Sunday and I don't even
- 1:12:42know what day of the week. It is currently absolutely man.
- 1:12:47I mean, so yeah, where we at you?
- 1:12:50What's next? All right.
- 1:12:52Let The Best For Last and VP of meat.
- 1:12:56I have my want to go first. Good job.
- 1:12:59She said she had her late ladies.
- 1:13:03First Kelly am sure my points on its own.
- 1:13:08You can't, you count it up the points?
- 1:13:10What would you actually did? I actually did it had 18.
- 1:13:14And then what is it 2120? That's one score.
- 1:13:20Okay, College. Okay, say I like the Matthew.
- 1:13:24I'm okay. I know about your man.
- 1:13:31First of all, wait a minute. You didn't see it.
- 1:13:50You didn't you didn't see the massive.
- 1:13:52Think I can be celebrations, drug drug, testing and covid
- 1:13:55protocol after the decks. Yeah I didn't look at the end of
- 1:13:58my MVP and listen I'm going to say this.
- 1:14:03I'm going to get some side eyes and it is what it is.
- 1:14:05I'm going to say what I say and I mean when I say I'm going to
- 1:14:08say that my MVP for this meat, honestly, for real is Solutions
- 1:14:13and I'm going to say this for a real reason.
- 1:14:17The man coached athletes for nine of the ten days at a global
- 1:14:26Championship people. This ain't the SEC meat.
- 1:14:32He coached athletes from Day 2 to day 10.
- 1:14:38And I just want people to understand.
- 1:14:42Nobody else is closed there. People who are sprinkled in
- 1:14:46there, who coach people on Day, 2 and day 10, but everybody else
- 1:14:50had a break in there were at least one day.
- 1:14:53This man was going to the track every day and it was like you
- 1:14:56got death taxes and solutions coming up the section. 224 to
- 1:15:00watch somebody run something. Am I Wrong?
- 1:15:03Am I Wrong Clyde? You are absolutely, not wrong
- 1:15:06and I will not be picking Solutions as my MVP around me
- 1:15:11but I like what you did there and I will I will Echo that
- 1:15:16prays again. I Solutions can just mute his
- 1:15:21mic and be embarrassed if that's what it is.
- 1:15:22But Couple couple months ago, we had we had a little internet
- 1:15:26debate because I called Sir Lucius.
- 1:15:28The goat of NCAA coaches and apparently people disagree with
- 1:15:33me on that which is insane, but got like as a person.
- 1:15:39I'm, you know, I'm younger. I've done work, that has landed
- 1:15:43me to coach at two World Championships, one indoor, one
- 1:15:47outdoor. And I know the work that it took
- 1:15:49to get there with two athletes. I can't imagine the process
- 1:15:57going there to where I have to be on call for work every day.
- 1:16:01So, MVP of coaches, it ain't even close is absolutely sir
- 1:16:06lucious but the question was intended for the athletes.
- 1:16:09So I'm going to pick, I do understand that, but I wanted to
- 1:16:13give, I was to give eight coaches, never get there.
- 1:16:16They never get the props in the flowers, right?
- 1:16:19And it dawned on me, the day before, We had to go coach for
- 1:16:25two days in the deck, right? It dawned on me.
- 1:16:30Lucius has coach seven days already.
- 1:16:32Yeah. And I'm like, trying to, like
- 1:16:34store up energy to get ready for the two that I'm about to go
- 1:16:37attack sometime. It is already coach 7, freaking
- 1:16:41days. I get it.
- 1:16:43Two sessions a day, folks. I'm gonna put it.
- 1:16:46I'm going to put a cherry on that because I was at the meat,
- 1:16:48right? So I haven't yet had enough.
- 1:16:50Time to consume all the media coverage.
- 1:16:53The NBC coverage, the the peacock coverage, whatever.
- 1:16:58The few days that I have, I've heard a lot of coaches name,
- 1:17:02shout it out on the air. I heard my Calaway his name on
- 1:17:07the area. So if we got time to shout out
- 1:17:11coaches who got one metal or one person in the final of the 30-40
- 1:17:17people that they coach, I mean we can shout out some names.
- 1:17:22So you know, just saying my MVP. I like the show you a con rod
- 1:17:29numbers. I really do.
- 1:17:31I honestly I to I'm going to defer that my pic that I was
- 1:17:36going to say is Sydney clopton because she is carrying the
- 1:17:43mantle of this sport moving forward.
- 1:17:47Shelly is older. She's still on top right but
- 1:17:52Shelley is much closer to the end of her career than she is.
- 1:17:54The beginning said he's 22 years old.
- 1:17:58And moving forward, the global face of our sport should be and
- 1:18:03probably will be sitting McLaughlin.
- 1:18:07I will go next and I'm going to give you your Shelly and price,
- 1:18:11Frasier price, I'm sorry, disrespect her name, and I want
- 1:18:14to counter you with Miss shreeka, Jackson who scored the
- 1:18:17exact same now points to show ended.
- 1:18:19I was, I didn't enjoy getting her Point yet.
- 1:18:21We came to this event faster than I could get to finish her
- 1:18:24Point Public math, and I will take shriek has combined
- 1:18:31performances in the one and two are better than Shelly.
- 1:18:34So sure. Because my Envision that is
- 1:18:36true. So here's what you do.
- 1:19:05Okay, so that's that was my question.
- 1:19:07The most socially and wins the hundred shrieking Sharika.
- 1:19:12Where's the 200 million second interval for Mu relay?
- 1:19:15Yeah, got it. Well, no, I saw her Fifth.
- 1:19:20And so I was wondering, I didn't know if she was through the
- 1:19:23prelims or through the wrongs or if she was really on, I didn't
- 1:19:27see it. So, And I didn't get to the
- 1:19:30Matthew. Well, thanks to Sir lucious for
- 1:19:33going ahead and appreciate that. Definitely reference Jackson for
- 1:19:42me. And, you know, it's, it's kind
- 1:19:46of a sin, a whole when you have someone like Sharika Jackson
- 1:19:50sitting there, you know, and if it had a 4x4 that they thought
- 1:19:55had a chance to line up with the u.s. seem you can Person that
- 1:20:00Eureka Jackson would have been on that Squad.
- 1:20:03I pray I think it's obvious that knowing what the US had, you
- 1:20:09know. And I'm not saying that anyone
- 1:20:11waived any white flags, I mean let's let's let's call it what
- 1:20:15it is. The Jamaican team finishing
- 1:20:18second in the 4 by 4 and s in the woman's 4x4.
- 1:20:22Pretty damn good. You got to give them the flowers
- 1:20:24on that. That was the National Record for
- 1:20:26both of them. Absolutely, yes.
- 1:20:29Yes. So, but you know, I yes, I have
- 1:20:33to say, what should we could Jackson what she put down in
- 1:20:36that 200? Yeah, that Called what it is.
- 1:20:43That that was that was an MVP performance and I want lucious
- 1:20:48and and Lamar do not go down the petty Rabbit Hole here because
- 1:20:53I'm not attempting to be Petty. Well, here we go.
- 1:20:56Here we go. In reference to Sarika Jackson.
- 1:20:59There's another great video that you need to see.
- 1:21:03We're after her performance in the 200 m, a member of the media
- 1:21:08and it sounded like American Media was asking her about her
- 1:21:13thoughts of flow, Jose 200-meter record and whether or not she
- 1:21:17thought it was legitimate. Our answer to that was brilliant
- 1:21:23and perfect. Hmm.
- 1:21:25Regardless of what you think about that record or that
- 1:21:28particular athlete Sharika Jackson gave the only answer
- 1:21:32that an athlete in that positions, just give it and it
- 1:21:35was brilliant and she basically gave him the middle finger, your
- 1:21:38finger is bleeding, was like how dare you ask me such a
- 1:21:41disrespectful question, what the hell is wrong with you?
- 1:21:45Whether you agree with that or not and some people don't that
- 1:21:49was the right answer. Her in that moment, Bravo to
- 1:21:51Sharika for, for her side eye, and her face, and her tone in
- 1:21:57that moment. So before what else do we have?
- 1:22:03That we do that. We have to eat crow and yeah do
- 1:22:08things that are a little bit new segment that we're going to tag
- 1:22:12onto all of the predictions. It's not really about
- 1:22:15predictions, but yes, yeah, go ahead.
- 1:22:18But so, A segment from what show?
- 1:22:21I apologize. I don't recall.
- 1:22:23Oh you mean the model? Yeah.
- 1:22:26Oh yeah. No, I totally stole this idea
- 1:22:28from colic out. There you go.
- 1:22:30Colin Cowherd once a week has a segment.
- 1:22:32Colin was right? Column was wrong and I thought
- 1:22:35it'd be fun for the audience to see us admit when we screw
- 1:22:38things up and praise ourselves when we do well.
- 1:22:41So, Segment is so bright, so wrong.
- 1:22:45So wrong. Yeah, well, I don't know what I
- 1:22:49was right about. I know I was totally wrong about
- 1:22:54the women's 800 and that not that I thought it slow was far
- 1:23:01off from what she actually did because I because I still think
- 1:23:04she's not the same as she was a year ago which he proved, but I
- 1:23:08thought that the two had caught up to her but I want to give
- 1:23:12mismo For shut my mouth. That was nice to watch.
- 1:23:17So I was totally wrong about you and I have no idea and this
- 1:23:22Wilson because that was totally uh, Nigel a bike.
- 1:23:25Yes. Shows up for the championship.
- 1:23:28Absolutely. She might she must have had
- 1:23:30covid or something. So, I don't know if it makes you
- 1:23:33feel any better. You weren't as wrong about the
- 1:23:35women's 800 as I was because I absolutely believed in what I
- 1:23:41saw at the national championships from From Miss,
- 1:23:43Audrey Wilson. And I agree with you.
- 1:23:45That wasn't her at Worlds. I don't know what when I don't
- 1:23:48know what that is because they've never messed that up,
- 1:23:52you know? I mean, like, she's always
- 1:23:53already they. Yeah.
- 1:23:54Her and her coach, you know, so of like if we come to find out,
- 1:23:58she had covid or something else, like it would 0% surprise.
- 1:24:01But at the end of the day, I definitely have to eat a ton of
- 1:24:03crow for predicting the upset and having misogyny Wilson
- 1:24:08behave. It is what it is.
- 1:24:13You got sometimes, you got to own it.
- 1:24:14You gotta go out on a limb. And personally, as somebody on
- 1:24:19this panel, that thought that particular pick was utterly
- 1:24:22ridiculous. I am enjoying this particular
- 1:24:25moment, 100%, you know, supposed to be clear, I got the women's
- 1:24:31eight wrong to because I picked the American sweet, but that's
- 1:24:35not the one that I feel. I got the most wrong, the one, I
- 1:24:38feel like I got the most wrong with all.
- 1:24:41All due respect is the men's 200.
- 1:24:44I straight up said here and many.
- 1:24:46Many other places that Noah was going to lose that race and Lose
- 1:24:51It by daylight. I've never been more wrong about
- 1:24:55a thing ever, in this work. America Bravo sir.
- 1:25:02You are the man. It is your event.
- 1:25:04It you are on the throne. My somebody's gonna have to
- 1:25:08knock you all the way off of it because taking Michael Johnson's
- 1:25:11record is not an easy feat. Was very excited to see that.
- 1:25:16Be the result. I loved, you know, him playing
- 1:25:19to the clock afterwards like really and then, you know, it
- 1:25:22actually became official so I could not have been more wrong
- 1:25:25about that one, brother you and props to Lance Brahman who
- 1:25:30coaches, the young man Bravo both of you.
- 1:25:34They go on the 200 real quick even correct Governor will?
- 1:25:37I'm sorry, I personally was so not baffled, I don't know I
- 1:25:43guess. In all of that 200 finish, I
- 1:25:48never realized who came in second until I was doing the
- 1:25:50points recap, and I was like, is that right?
- 1:25:53And so I literally came out, I went out of screen.
- 1:25:55Come back in the screen refresh and I was like, oh, I got it.
- 1:26:00Okay. So apologies to can even Eric,
- 1:26:03didn't know you took the silver? Congratulations.
- 1:26:06But I too got, the men's 200 Old.
- 1:26:13I'm trying to remember Or we're screwed up the most.
- 1:26:16Can you can you tell me where more than one?
- 1:26:19Now, you ain't got to be just one.
- 1:26:21You can throw. You can throw things in there.
- 1:26:30Sure. Right.
- 1:26:32I mean, we had to be like, we had to have a completely
- 1:26:36obliterated, that absolutely. Well, the mere fact that an
- 1:26:42American didn't win a medal that's just that alone.
- 1:26:46Like, you know what? I'm not going to say.
- 1:26:49It completely obliterated that because I'm pretty sure I have
- 1:26:51Brittany Anderson, getting a medal.
- 1:26:53You dig? I did too, didn't you?
- 1:27:01Did not. Who am I?
- 1:27:03Talking three, Jasmine, Nia and Kenny.
- 1:27:08Oh wow, my apologies Prema Prema.
- 1:27:14I believe Governor, the you, and I had the same three pigs.
- 1:27:18Wow, yes you did. Okay, yep.
- 1:27:22Yes, I definitely screwed the pooch on that one.
- 1:27:26Yes, you know what? That, that that right there
- 1:27:29might have been also been one of the biggest surprises of the
- 1:27:31meat was MIA. Eileen not making it out of the
- 1:27:33first round. Yeah, I mean, that was shocking.
- 1:27:37Listen, we if you hurdle, you following right there, all falls
- 1:27:43are not created equal, right? Some rolls come because you
- 1:27:46under pressure some Falls, we could come over because you just
- 1:27:49scared me. You clip the hurdle like it
- 1:27:51happened? Yeah, she was in control of the
- 1:27:53race. She was cruising along its the
- 1:27:55prelim bad time. Something about the hurdles that
- 1:28:04was different. The actual the way that were
- 1:28:06built, oh, you're making reference to the fact that the
- 1:28:09hurdle boards were actually would see what looks cool would
- 1:28:14they were worse. So a lot less forgiving than wow
- 1:28:19plastic boards that we typically see these, they're okay.
- 1:28:22But when we talk about the woman's heart, Kenny apologized
- 1:28:26on Twitter and mention that the hurdles will made of wood and I
- 1:28:30was like what no yeah they were Yeah.
- 1:28:33There's a some of them in the woma period, you know, babe.
- 1:28:36Okay. But like what they did, they
- 1:28:37honestly carrying them around they were lighter than your
- 1:28:41Lumia. Yeah, you couldn't tell the
- 1:28:44difference. Yeah.
- 1:28:47But I want to speak of the one that's her house.
- 1:28:49I want to give us a shout out to miss Armstrong.
- 1:28:52Yeah. Well what's your 12:38 and
- 1:28:55final? Yeah which hey three weeks ago.
- 1:29:01Turn it back flips. Oh absolutely absolutely.
- 1:29:05All right. Okay so one time we can come
- 1:29:10back to more things that we got wrong if y'all have them.
- 1:29:12Cuz I know we do. But I personally would like to
- 1:29:15hear. Y'all self praise for something.
- 1:29:17You got, right? I'm Shoveling.
- 1:29:23You can celebrate for all of us that the defining win, the, the
- 1:29:27winner that was literally, the only event that was predicted.
- 1:29:32Added a hundred percent. Every other event we did not
- 1:29:35predict 100% at all. See, the only thing I'm going to
- 1:29:40say I got right in terms of that.
- 1:29:43The World Championships is. I got the taper of my athletes,
- 1:29:47right? Unfortunate like correctness was
- 1:30:10that I think every single one of us had a little bit of a side.
- 1:30:14I about us winning the mixed relay because we all actually
- 1:30:20dive into the schedule. So we realize that the fix was
- 1:30:25in as far as leveling the playing field and then went and
- 1:30:29then when we saw what team we rolled out there or like, we're
- 1:30:33just helping them. Yeah.
- 1:30:37Obviously, we all knew that this was a chance.
- 1:30:42Yeah, you know, and I, you know, I've had conversations with the
- 1:30:46relay coaches and I've said that I'm like, you got to pay
- 1:30:49attention to the fact that the, this was set up for the world to
- 1:30:52beat us. If we didn't, if we didn't get
- 1:30:55rid of our no arrogance, right? Yeah, we can, we cannot beat the
- 1:31:00world with r45 when we just can't.
- 1:31:02We don't have that kind of debt right now, And I want to, I want
- 1:31:06to have faith that they get it right moving forward.
- 1:31:10My, that's yeah. I mean, our best, I mean, I hate
- 1:31:15to say this but it's factual our best female quarter milers all
- 1:31:18run the 400 hurdles right now. Anyway, if the schedule stays
- 1:31:22the same going forward, it's an easy fix.
- 1:31:24Well, I'm taking a sense to that, cause I don't think all of
- 1:31:26them can outrun my girls. Miss me with that.
- 1:31:30Not. All right, why are we why we
- 1:31:37taking personal offense? Broad stroke the stroke across
- 1:31:44the face of my girls you because because I love you just because
- 1:31:53I'm sorry, totally thil. Diggs is the only one currently
- 1:31:57worthy of running on a 4x4 with the rest of the $400.
- 1:32:01Now, Lamar has to go on the website and buy a shirt.
- 1:32:06Let me tell you something. Hold your breath.
- 1:32:07Wait for that. Now because I know the governor
- 1:32:11will come behind me. And class up his self-praise.
- 1:32:17I'm going all the way Petty on mine, and I got two one for the
- 1:32:24general public and the audience I've been saying for years.
- 1:32:30At this event held in Eugene would be phenomenal.
- 1:32:35And the crowds would be there and it would be epic and it
- 1:32:38absolutely was. I do not understand how anybody
- 1:32:42still looking at the TV because that's where you were is
- 1:32:46claiming that the crowd was somehow not up to scale.
- 1:32:51It was full of folks. It was full every day.
- 1:32:56Eugene, showed up showed out fantastic, the whole thing was a
- 1:33:01great great, great show. And if you didn't go, you should
- 1:33:05have you're going to regret not being there because it's never
- 1:33:08coming back here. So coming back.
- 1:33:11Now, we can build a new airport before they do whatever.
- 1:33:15Now, this one is actually for my fellow panelists, governor of
- 1:33:21the wizard is the women's 400 or Governor excluded, because I do
- 1:33:25not believe He was around at the time.
- 1:33:29I told Governor listen to me. I told these people long time
- 1:33:35ago, Sydney McLaughlin would never be beaten by delillo
- 1:33:39Muhammad again. He did.
- 1:33:41They laugh that they were blasted she they told me I know
- 1:33:46I laughed at him. They told me I was being
- 1:33:48disrespected because they first first of all I want you to stop
- 1:33:51saying they and talk to Lamar. No, no, no.
- 1:33:59I was being disrespectful. Okay, okay.
- 1:34:01First of all I want to say this that you can still not say she
- 1:34:04will never be beat never because Jesus Mohammed or anybody else
- 1:34:14ever again? Because because he is now triple
- 1:34:17down on it because if he/she loves up and she falls or she
- 1:34:21lines up if I separate it could happen well sure sure.
- 1:34:24Yeah. You could pull a hamstring or
- 1:34:25you can fight, she would not lose to them but that would be
- 1:34:28her. Beating herself.
- 1:34:30Never get good. I'm not gonna do this with you
- 1:34:32tonight because I wasn't laughing or scoffing at you and
- 1:34:36look. You know you are very good at
- 1:34:38patting yourself on the back. So boy he's the one
- 1:34:55that I have nothing to do with this.
- 1:35:00Appropriately, pointing out that you got all all of your Peaks,
- 1:35:04correct, don't try all the tapers.
- 1:35:06Correct. Nice try though.
- 1:35:08Will anybody see the way? We're not meant to eat this on
- 1:35:23that one. I got nothing.
- 1:35:36I'm looking to get something right Governor so you in the
- 1:35:51men's shot, put Second to that was the 800.
- 1:35:59So you would only want to get the third place finisher right
- 1:36:01in the shop for it, right? No, no one.
- 1:36:05Got the 33rd Place in the chocolate.
- 1:36:08We all had Walsh. Not, I was Sunday and in the
- 1:36:11women's 800 you had Mo and Maura.
- 1:36:15So, you City scored the most points in the shot.
- 1:36:17Put correct when they're out. He also his points of his
- 1:36:21points. Okay.
- 1:36:23Yeah, we all scored eight points.
- 1:36:27Okay, just want to say for the record, I did win the men.
- 1:36:29I still don't know how that happens because I told you I
- 1:36:35don't know anything about I clearly don't know anything at
- 1:36:37all about women's track though because I got eight point three
- 1:36:40eight points, that's terrible. Yeah well I I mean I was wrong a
- 1:36:48lot. Amen brother and as I spent so
- 1:36:57much time trying to not pick with y'all were picking
- 1:37:02anything, But I got done, we got done with the show I'm like, oh
- 1:37:14my gosh, that's funny. All right well I can wrap up the
- 1:37:18show because we are we've gone a little bit longer and I swear we
- 1:37:21keep trying to say that we're going to go a little bit
- 1:37:22shorter, we'll give our heartbeat pops and then wrap up
- 1:37:26I think at the culminating moment of the world Champs and
- 1:37:31and going in their respective championships at each.
- 1:37:33She has and what not? This might be an appropriate
- 1:37:36time to do. So does anybody have something
- 1:37:39they'd like to? There you go.
- 1:37:41Clyde with your hand wrist. I got a pretty quick one.
- 1:37:45Hopefully I can make it quick to me.
- 1:37:48I treated this world championships was kind of all
- 1:37:51about family to me, you know, everybody knows about my son
- 1:37:57Kai. A lot of people don't know that
- 1:37:59we learned of his presence in the world in Eugene, Oregon.
- 1:38:03Oregon a year ago and to see like to return there with him
- 1:38:10until eight months old and the world.
- 1:38:14When that has happened, you know, meant meant meant a lot,
- 1:38:18to me. It also meant a lot to me that I
- 1:38:20basically got to kick it with my extended family.
- 1:38:25The members you see right here, Governor excluded, he couldn't
- 1:38:28make the trip for the majority of the week was awesome as well.
- 1:38:32And none of that, actually Been possible if it wasn't for Mando
- 1:38:36and I will meet my new plant is I mean company Mondo who
- 1:38:41basically you know got us the all-access passes and the VIP
- 1:38:47seats. And so you know to Micah and
- 1:38:51everybody affiliated with Mondo that made that happen for me and
- 1:38:54my family I really appreciate it.
- 1:38:55It was dope, I wouldn't have missed it for the world and I
- 1:38:58would have spent every dollar I needed to make it happen anyway.
- 1:39:00But the fact they helped us out with so much was awesome.
- 1:39:03And so, Thank you to the Mondo crew from me and my family.
- 1:39:08That's awesome for me. I was before we moved off the,
- 1:39:16you know, MVP and all that stuff.
- 1:39:20I wanted to throw in a category for most emotional moment.
- 1:39:28Hmm. And I don't know about you guys
- 1:39:32but, you know, track does that to me, right?
- 1:39:39and you know, one of the things that's extremely hard to do
- 1:39:45that, extremely, I mean, I think our sport is still trying to
- 1:39:49figure out how to get the outside world to connect with
- 1:39:56the principles and to get them to understand or somehow
- 1:40:01understand what's going on behind the scenes, what's
- 1:40:05leading up to these moments these moments of Brilliance, and
- 1:40:11how these athletes are overcoming and you know somehow
- 1:40:15producing these amazing performances so, my moment in
- 1:40:23the person I want to send heartbeats props out to is Kara
- 1:40:27Winger. And when I tell you that I was
- 1:40:36locked in on every single throw she did in that competition
- 1:40:43because I know what Carol Wingers been through.
- 1:40:48I've been through what Cara Wingers been through the brace
- 1:40:52on her leg You know, coming off of ACL surgery, multiple ACL
- 1:40:59surgeries, okay? And she's still there, winning
- 1:41:05the US championships nine times, okay?
- 1:41:10And never had had a sniff, it a medal.
- 1:41:15And she throws 61 meters plus and she has this grin on her
- 1:41:21face and I'm going. Oh boy.
- 1:41:24Here we go. And you're watching the
- 1:41:27competition and you're seeing these these athletes and no one
- 1:41:31seems to want to put this event to bed.
- 1:41:34You're not seeing somebody just saying, you know what?
- 1:41:38Peace out y'all. This is it.
- 1:41:40And she comes down on her sixth row, okay.
- 1:41:46Knowing this is the last event. The last time that she'll be
- 1:41:50throwing in a u.s. uniform last time, she'll be competing
- 1:41:55professional and she throws 64 m. + to grab the silver love,
- 1:42:01man. I mean All of us have been there
- 1:42:07like it's one of those heart grabbing moments where you can
- 1:42:12only hope you can only hope to go out like that.
- 1:42:17Right? And and you know we hear it you
- 1:42:23know, as athletes that are ending, you know getting to the
- 1:42:26end of our careers, we're hearing the talk.
- 1:42:29You can hear it. Here's a new, the new group of a
- 1:42:34He's still here. The new generation is here.
- 1:42:37Why are you still out here? Why are you still doing this?
- 1:42:40And I think for Kara Winger, she can now go into retirement,
- 1:42:45knowing that she shut them up. She shut up the naysayers.
- 1:42:50She did it on our home turf. Absolutely brilliant.
- 1:42:56Shed a tear just just really quick, right?
- 1:43:03Right off of that moment, right? Like and I think big league
- 1:43:06actually saw this and didn't realize what was going on.
- 1:43:08I've no Kara Winger from a long time.
- 1:43:10And we were leaving the stadium to head out and she was standing
- 1:43:15about 10 feet from Russ, and she was talking to some other people
- 1:43:18and I waited like, you know, almost like a fan and she sees
- 1:43:22me and she walks over me and gives me the huge.
- 1:43:26Is bear hug, and just squeezed. And it was an all knowing,
- 1:43:33right, you know, that I know that, you know, that I know kind
- 1:43:35of thing and I felt I felt like as the most honoured recipient,
- 1:43:43like I think she needed to give a hug to someone that makes
- 1:43:46sense. And I was honored that I was
- 1:43:48honored to be that someone, because listen, what she's been
- 1:43:53through is I don't think most of us have anywhere near the
- 1:43:57fortitude to go do that. I mean, let's be clear.
- 1:44:00She tore her ACL once in that building, not that building, but
- 1:44:05in that building on that Runway. Wow, right.
- 1:44:08So it's like, wow, to all of that Maya.
- 1:44:15My heartbeat props actually go out to for people who didn't
- 1:44:24know each other before this week and I'm still not 100% sure.
- 1:44:28They know each other, but they bonded together for a task at
- 1:44:32hand that was outside of their own body.
- 1:44:36There are three young gentleman who are Estonian, who go to
- 1:44:42Every combined event. Really, that estonians go to and
- 1:44:48they get drunk and cheer. They.
- 1:44:53Absolutely. And positively love the guy that
- 1:44:57big league and I coach Linden Victor.
- 1:45:01First day, he's not doing what he's supposed to do, or you're
- 1:45:05not feeling it in the high jump. And the bigger one stands up,
- 1:45:09come on and they get the crowd going crazy.
- 1:45:13And it's just like, this is on them, like they got this.
- 1:45:18And then they to comes and we get to the pole vault.
- 1:45:21And now my 3, Estonian cheerleaders, they've got a new
- 1:45:27band leader. And Linden's number one, fan who
- 1:45:33and I quote took the baby off the boob because a job needed to
- 1:45:38be done and ran into the stadium.
- 1:45:41To cheer for Linden is one Tiana Madison.
- 1:45:46So, during the entire pole, vault big league, and I walked
- 1:45:50somewhere in the neighborhood of two miles up and down up and
- 1:45:53down up and down, but we had nowhere near the effect on the
- 1:45:56competition that those four people did.
- 1:46:00Because those three guys, and Tiana, they had Linden's back.
- 1:46:05And when he was tight, they loosened him up.
- 1:46:08And when he needed juice, they gave it to him.
- 1:46:11And I just thought that was amazing.
- 1:46:15Right. Like there's no connection for
- 1:46:17any of the actual connection for any of the for them to him.
- 1:46:22His personality is such that they Guam to him and they knew
- 1:46:25that that he needed them and they gave of themselves for
- 1:46:31almost 3 hours. So my heart be props go to the
- 1:46:37linen, Victor fan, club, three, young, Estonian men whose names.
- 1:46:40I do not know they they will never pay for a drink in my
- 1:46:45presence. I will for sure, always give
- 1:46:48them alcohol because they love that.
- 1:46:50And to Linden's new Fairy Godmother, Tiana, Madison, who
- 1:46:58I've been told by ten different people, could they could hear
- 1:47:00her screaming on the screen on the peacock coverage L knew it
- 1:47:04was her rounding it out my heart.
- 1:47:08Be proper to go to a mom and her two young daughters, who
- 1:47:13actually stopped me during the pole vault competition.
- 1:47:17The mother had stopped me and and I apologize.
- 1:47:20I forgotten their names and so it'll come to me.
- 1:47:22And I'll go retroactively but she said, I hope your athlete
- 1:47:29does well, good luck. And then turned around and said
- 1:47:33I have to say this out loud. Loud.
- 1:47:35My girls are enamored with the fact that Linden has a female
- 1:47:37coach and I almost fell. I like almost started crying.
- 1:47:42I said, thank you so much for your words.
- 1:47:44Tell your daughters to keep doing what they do strong.
- 1:47:47I was able to find them during the Java or after the job
- 1:47:50competition and actually like they had us to take a picture
- 1:47:53with me, but I asked them. I said, no, I want to take a
- 1:47:56picture with you, you know? And so just in that moment for
- 1:48:00them to make it a point to stop Converse acknowledged.
- 1:48:05I give them props for being confident enough to do that, to
- 1:48:10acknowledge it, and just to keep standing up.
- 1:48:13So, he ever hear me speak about that.
- 1:48:15I'm always saying that just females in general.
- 1:48:18Just always need to speak up and stand up, so kudos to them and
- 1:48:23they're working hard as athletes.
- 1:48:24So keep working hard. But with that, here we are
- 1:48:30another episode down. Let's wrap this bad boy solution
- 1:48:35to say. Oh oh, just kidding.
- 1:48:38I already thought you went. I thought you were saying by
- 1:48:39like, I'm out my bad. That's my fault.
- 1:48:43That's my fault. So I do give a heartbeat props
- 1:48:59just to the City of Eugene as a whole to the to the volunteers
- 1:49:06to the. It just is everybody that was
- 1:49:08involved with the World Championships know where did I
- 1:49:10go anywhere and Eugene where people weren't welcomed me and
- 1:49:15pleasant and very happy to have us there.
- 1:49:17They ask questions they were engaging, it was just awesome.
- 1:49:21You know, so for the naysayers out there that, you know, want
- 1:49:25to have something bad to say, The latter World Championships
- 1:49:29and this may have been best when ever been to.
- 1:49:32Wow. And then the best.
- 1:49:33Wow. Wow, that's that's been echoed
- 1:49:39by Otto. Otto said this was the best
- 1:49:42thing I've ever seen. Yeah.
- 1:49:44Wow. That's pretty amazing.
- 1:49:48And it may start to finish. You had 97's and we finish with
- 1:49:54255 and 317. Mm-hmm.
- 1:49:58It wasn't just a performance is this was the atmosphere around
- 1:50:01it? No.
- 1:50:02Yeah. Like he like even you know back
- 1:50:04in the warm-up area it other than a couple instances but you
- 1:50:07know that things that happen but like it was just good.
- 1:50:12We just very, very, very Athlete friendly coach Rim, it was good
- 1:50:18to be there. And what and say, where they're
- 1:50:21making sure we got our steps in going around them to enter,
- 1:50:23though, there's something to be said about that, right?
- 1:50:28Because you can put on championships, a whole lot of
- 1:50:30ways. An athlete, we coach friendly
- 1:50:33Championship means a lot to the people that matter in the in the
- 1:50:39equation, right? Because the athletes and the
- 1:50:41coaches are the show, aren't they do, I got Until on my way
- 1:50:46home that the, I don't know, I apologize.
- 1:50:51I'm very ignorant in this part, those who are in the country
- 1:50:54that who's hosting next year, Budapest.
- 1:50:57They had their officials on site this year and we want you to
- 1:51:04look like this. And so all the officials were
- 1:51:08taking extra time to like kind of clarify and explain what was
- 1:51:11going on and why and what not and World us.
- 1:51:15And the Budapest officials were supposed to be.
- 1:51:19There are supposed to be mimicking because they saw the
- 1:51:22value in how it was ran. I had run into an official at
- 1:51:25the airport and she and I want to challenge you to use the word
- 1:51:30uninformed horses. Ignorant.
- 1:51:31Okay now. Yeah.
- 1:51:34And informed, that's true. That's very much it.
- 1:51:37Listen, there's there's data, right?
- 1:51:40MBC put out some information to said from TV numbers.
- 1:51:45You're breaking. Yes.
- 1:51:46Now, we're never going to break the attendance record of London,
- 1:51:51right? The venues are totally different
- 1:51:53sizes, but I'm very interested to see the attendance numbers
- 1:51:58when they come out based on percentages.
- 1:52:00It is London was at 91 percent capacity and I really want to
- 1:52:04want to see, you know what, how the attendance numbers come out?
- 1:52:07But yeah, they they put on a great show on a great show.
- 1:52:12I mean, for all of us who have been to Eugene for NCAA.
- 1:52:14Sorry. Free right.
- 1:52:16Much smaller things. I was flabbergasted at how well,
- 1:52:22the City of Eugene. Handled the increased traffic.
- 1:52:26Yes. Mmm.
- 1:52:29Right. Like look.
- 1:52:30What was right? What my biggest concern going
- 1:52:33there. I think I said this to
- 1:52:34Solutions. Like where am I gonna park the
- 1:52:36car? No, prob lock and a half from
- 1:52:40the stadium, every day. Every day.
- 1:52:43Every day we have a ticket to pay the Army stretched.
- 1:52:56We stretched it one day, but we only got one ticket, right?
- 1:52:59They did, they did a phenomenal job.
- 1:53:02I've seen, I've seen a couple of the comments from athletes that,
- 1:53:07you know, Stayed in and around the stadium.
- 1:53:10And they absolutely love the fact that they could connect
- 1:53:14with their fans that closely, you know, and be able to, you
- 1:53:20know, live eat sleep, you know, and then get to the track and
- 1:53:25everything was in this, this bubble bubble and they
- 1:53:29absolutely love that are and I remember, you know, mentioning
- 1:53:34you know, that, you know, a World Championships maybe two
- 1:53:37Ooh, big for a city like Eugene and it seems like I was wrong on
- 1:53:41that bike. I stayed 7 minute, walk from the
- 1:53:48city. Wow, seven minutes.
- 1:53:51Wow, that was amazing. And what and walking, you know,
- 1:53:54uphill, they're down here back, just listen to people talk you,
- 1:54:00how excited they were? I saw, you know, there was a day
- 1:54:04I think the 5 cables in the morning and it was this group of
- 1:54:07about 10 people. Just screening to get there.
- 1:54:10And this one guy like his girlfriend's running, he's
- 1:54:13walking and she's like you. If you make me miss this 5K, he
- 1:54:19looked out. He was playing on his phone and
- 1:54:20she's like, I'm tell you what How much?
- 1:54:59I've been to other world championships, the fact that I
- 1:55:01could come out of my seat, trying to leave and run into
- 1:55:08Shelly-Ann, Fraser practice, run into Rojas running Auto.
- 1:55:13Bolding like guys, like you're not going to go to the NBA
- 1:55:17finals, if you're going to drop names, Seb Coe.
- 1:55:28Hey, wait a minute. How about like two days in a
- 1:55:29row? Yes.
- 1:55:56Girl, no, no. He feels bad because like you
- 1:55:59said, that's what you got to compare.
- 1:56:00Everything else. To that's okay.
- 1:56:04Olympics was Atlanta and you're exactly like your, it's your
- 1:56:08ruined. Yeah, I think I'll live, I think
- 1:56:12on this is Berlin and it was all about what that experience was
- 1:56:21for me. I spent pretty much every day
- 1:56:24hanging out with Donovan and Maurice Greene.
- 1:56:28And it was just you know like just watching Bolt do what he
- 1:56:33did and then looking over and see two of the greats, just
- 1:56:37going, I mean it was one of those.
- 1:56:42I mean, I've never I can't ever compare that to anything, you
- 1:56:46know, and and access they had inside the Berlin Stadium.
- 1:56:50I don't know if anybody's, any of you have seen it, the
- 1:56:53monument and the shrine to Unbelievable.
- 1:57:00Unbelievable. So yeah, I'm sad.
- 1:57:04I missed it though. I mean I'm from what I'm here
- 1:57:07and it was just as amazing. Yeah you missed you missed the
- 1:57:11biggest high five ever known to man between sir Lucius Clyde and
- 1:57:16myself after SIDS race in the former and the Foreigner.
- 1:57:22We look like Jim Valvano looking for somebody to hug me.
- 1:57:25I think I high-fived I never seen before in my life.
- 1:57:30Oh goodness. All right.
- 1:57:32Well gentlemen, it's been a pleasure recapping World
- 1:57:34Championships with you. I hope you all in The Ether.
- 1:57:38Have enjoyed it as well, and has shared your own stories as you
- 1:57:41push. Pause to tell it.
- 1:57:43But other than that will resume again next week with more on it,
- 1:57:48other than that, have a great night and we'll see each other
- 1:57:50soon. Bye everyone.
- 1:57:54Would you like to come on? a small put it in slow-mo but
- 1:58:55you fast for athletics cameras, even task force
