- 0:00Speaker 1: Another filming location. This one's really, really cool and pretty.
- 0:03Speaker 1: It's called the Old Wardour Castle, but it was severely
- 0:08Speaker 1: damaged during the English Civil War. The haunting ruins are
- 0:11Speaker 1: now an English heritage site and a great place for
- 0:15Speaker 1: filming movies like Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves, and of course,
- 0:18Speaker 1: Practical Magic 2.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Hello.
- 0:21Speaker 3: It doesn't look like it's that ruined.
- 0:23Speaker 2: You should see the back of it.
- 0:25Speaker 3: Well, yeah, I can see that it looks like she
- 0:27Speaker 3: may have a little... running her stockings there.
- 0:31Speaker 2: So there are some ghosties here as well. The gray lady.
- 0:37Speaker 2: Of course. Don't tell anyone I didn't know what button
- 0:43Speaker 2: to push. I think you just did. I'm going to
- 0:48Speaker 2: cut it out.
- 0:51Speaker 3: Ah, the magic of editing.
- 0:54Speaker 2: The bright green recording button. Which one is that? Which
- 0:57Speaker 2: one is that? Well, hi, Caitlin. Hi, Cassie. Hi, creepy people. Hello.
- 1:05Speaker 1: This is P & W Haunts and Homicides, where we
- 1:08Speaker 1: chat about true crime, the paranormal, and all things fall
- 1:12Speaker 1: and spooky and witchy in the Pacific Northwest. Oh. Or
- 1:17Speaker 1: the PNW, if you're nasty. We also do a tarot
- 1:20Speaker 1: reading at the end of every episode for a little
- 1:22Speaker 1: deeper insight into our topic.
- 1:24Speaker 2: That's the one. Yeah, that thing. Yeah, that thing.
- 1:27Speaker 1: And we're definitely doing it today because our topic is witchy.
- 1:33Speaker 3: Are we just 110% on theme?
- 1:37Speaker 2: Yes, I think we are. Can anyone guess what we're
- 1:42Speaker 2: drinking right now?
- 1:43Speaker 4: Yes.
- 1:45Speaker 2: I'm waiting.
- 1:45Speaker 3: Hello.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Are you going to answer?
- 1:49Speaker 1: We're drinking midnight margaritas from a little packet.
- 1:55Speaker 2: They're so... Wait, let's clink.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Cheers.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Clink. So it's black and sparkly. It's beautiful.
- 2:05Speaker 1: And delicious. And there is quite a bit of tequila
- 2:09Speaker 1: in this.
- 2:11Speaker 4: Yeah, um.
- 2:12Speaker 3: I found myself wondering why if shot glasses are approximately,
- 2:18Speaker 3: I believe, 1.5 ounces, that you would have a recipe
- 2:22Speaker 3: that says 4 ounces. Just tell me how many shots
- 2:25Speaker 3: I think is the right measuring unit. You know, here
- 2:31Speaker 3: we are.
- 2:32Speaker 2: So, it's fine. We figured it out.
- 2:36Speaker 3: Yep.
- 2:37Speaker 2: And we have drinks.
- 2:40Speaker 4: Yep.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Okay, so we're obviously so excited for Practical Magic 2
- 2:44Speaker 1: to come out. I don't know if you guys saw
- 2:48Speaker 1: our rerun we did last week or saw it, watched it,
- 2:51Speaker 1: listened to it, whatever. Because it is on YouTube, I'm
- 2:53Speaker 1: pretty sure. We talked about where the first Practical Magic
- 2:58Speaker 1: was filmed. And it was filmed in Whidbey and San
- 3:02Speaker 1: Juan Islands in Washington.
- 3:03Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 3:04Speaker 1: And then so I was obviously curious if Practical Magic
- 3:08Speaker 1: 2 was also filmed there.
- 3:11Speaker 2: Unfortunately, it was not.
- 3:12Speaker 3: What?
- 3:13Speaker 2: Yeah, no, it wasn't. Where did they film it? Well,
- 3:15Speaker 2: I'm going to tell you.
- 3:19Speaker 1: And there was a quote in an article I read from,
- 3:21Speaker 1: I think, one of the, like, town leaders I don't
- 3:24Speaker 1: know someone someone who's like involved with the town and
- 3:28Speaker 1: they said we were all very disappointed about that yeah
- 3:31Speaker 1: I know not gonna lie me too but the movie.
- 3:35Speaker 2: Like took them in another direction I.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Guess there's new scenery it's exciting um so they actually
- 3:42Speaker 1: filmed in England oh well okay it's hard to stay
- 3:46Speaker 1: mad at that yeah But don't worry, the town still
- 3:49Speaker 1: has their Practically Magic Halloweekend where they celebrate all things
- 3:55Speaker 1: Practical Magic and Halloween-y in October. And they have like
- 3:59Speaker 1: movie nights to screen the movie still and everything. So
- 4:02Speaker 1: that's all still going on.
- 4:03Speaker 2: Amaz.
- 4:05Speaker 1: So it was mostly in a London studio where they
- 4:08Speaker 1: rebuilt the famous, big, beautiful dream house.
- 4:12Speaker 2: I love it.
- 4:13Speaker 1: Because if you remember in that first episode where we
- 4:16Speaker 1: talked about it, the house was built just for the
- 4:19Speaker 1: movie and then taken down.
- 4:20Speaker 2: So it's not like an actual house. Yeah. So they
- 4:23Speaker 2: had to recreate it.
- 4:25Speaker 1: And they said it was like recreating the OG house
- 4:29Speaker 1: was very important to them.
- 4:31Speaker 2: So it better be right on. Yeah. Because you're going
- 4:34Speaker 2: to have a bunch of little witches after you if
- 4:35Speaker 2: it's not.
- 4:36Speaker 3: I know for real. Can you imagine if they get
- 4:39Speaker 3: details wrong? It's really.
- 4:41Speaker 2: I'm going to go frame by frame. Yeah. Yeah.
- 4:45Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 4:46Speaker 2: I'm sure it's gorgeous. And they threw a lot of
- 4:49Speaker 2: money at it.
- 4:50Speaker 3: So I would think so.
- 4:51Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 4:51Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah.
- 4:52Speaker 2: Big budget films here. That's what I'm talking about.
- 4:55Speaker 1: And of course, they didn't just film in the studio,
- 4:58Speaker 1: in the house. The movie takes place in other areas, too.
- 5:02Speaker 1: So I was wondering if the other filming locations in England,
- 5:07Speaker 1: if any of them were haunted.
- 5:09Speaker 2: And they might be. Oh. So we're going to talk
- 5:12Speaker 2: about it. Oh. Why do you seem disappointed?
- 5:15Speaker 3: I'm on a roller coaster right now.
- 5:18Speaker 2: You're like, I thought you don't want to hear about hauntings.
- 5:20Speaker 3: Well, I just was like, it'd be so cool if
- 5:23Speaker 3: they had chosen like a location to film in England
- 5:28Speaker 3: and it was a spooky one.
- 5:29Speaker 1: I just feel like that's very on brand. I don't
- 5:31Speaker 1: think they specifically looked for spooky places. It's more about
- 5:35Speaker 1: like the vibe of how it looks.
- 5:39Speaker 3: I think you might be right.
- 5:40Speaker 1: But for me, I took all those locations and I
- 5:44Speaker 1: typed in haunted after in Google to see what I
- 5:46Speaker 1: could find.
- 5:47Speaker 2: I love it. And I found some stuff. Excellent.
- 5:52Speaker 1: One of the filming locations is what they claim to
- 5:56Speaker 1: be the oldest pub in England. Really? Yeah, it's called
- 5:59Speaker 1: the Royal Standard.
- 6:00Speaker 3: Uh-huh.
- 6:02Speaker 1: And they've been operating for about 900 years, which I
- 6:05Speaker 1: feel like is a very long time.
- 6:07Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I guess. Like, that's, I don't even
- 6:12Speaker 2: know what year that is. Like the 1100s? Yeah, that's
- 6:18Speaker 2: what I was thinking.
- 6:19Speaker 1: Because like one of the articles said the like first
- 6:21Speaker 1: mentions of it were in 1213. But I was like,
- 6:24Speaker 1: that math doesn't line up their website. So it's like
- 6:27Speaker 1: 900 years. So I'm going to go with that.
- 6:29Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 6:30Speaker 1: So it's a long time. It wasn't always named that.
- 6:33Speaker 1: It started with a different name.
- 6:34Speaker 3: Well, I was going to say, I mean, at the
- 6:37Speaker 3: point like 1213, it's already probably been around for 100
- 6:41Speaker 3: years based on.
- 6:43Speaker 2: Crazy.
- 6:44Speaker 3: But yeah, I'm sure it changed names and all kinds
- 6:47Speaker 3: of things.
- 6:47Speaker 2: All kinds of shit went down there.
- 6:49Speaker 3: Plus, you know, I don't think they were known for
- 6:51Speaker 3: their record keeping at that point in history.
- 6:53Speaker 2: Probably not. Probably not.
- 6:55Speaker 3: Not overall.
- 6:55Speaker 2: I don't know. England, what's up with you?
- 6:58Speaker 3: Get it together.
- 6:59Speaker 2: Like we weren't even around then. Like we weren't even
- 7:03Speaker 2: a country. Well, we were. We just weren't here.
- 7:06Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:07Speaker 2: It's located in the village of Fortygreen near... Beacons Field
- 7:12Speaker 2: in Buckinghamshire.
- 7:14Speaker 3: Oh, my goodness.
- 7:15Speaker 2: And that was a mouthful for me to say.
- 7:17Speaker 3: Buckinghamshire?
- 7:20Speaker 2: See, I can't even say it a second time.
- 7:23Speaker 3: That may have something to do with the tequila. Yeah.
- 7:27Speaker 3: It's hard to say.
- 7:28Speaker 2: It hasn't hit me yet. No?
- 7:30Speaker 3: I'm already experiencing a warm, tingling sensation.
- 7:36Speaker 1: So it was used as a filming location for several
- 7:38Speaker 1: movies and TV shows. Before Practical Magic 2, staff at
- 7:42Speaker 1: the pub experience candles going out for no reason, which
- 7:47Speaker 1: is like very witchy in Practical Magic because, you know,
- 7:49Speaker 1: she blows on the candle.
- 7:50Speaker 2: To light it.
- 7:52Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:53Speaker 2: What do they do to extinguish the candle? Do they
- 7:56Speaker 2: suck it back out? Yeah, I guess I don't know.
- 7:59Speaker 2: If you're blowing to light, you're probably sucking to extinguish.
- 8:03Speaker 4: Yeah. Right?
- 8:04Speaker 3: I feel like that makes sense. That makes sense.
- 8:08Speaker 1: Laughter is also heard from the empty cellar. And I
- 8:12Speaker 1: like to think it's a cackle.
- 8:14Speaker 3: I mean, yeah, if the shoe fits.
- 8:17Speaker 2: It's got to be.
- 8:18Speaker 1: They also have some entities reported there. One of them
- 8:23Speaker 1: is known as the little drummer boy. And no, it's
- 8:27Speaker 1: not the Christmas one.
- 8:29Speaker 2: Not the Christmas one.
- 8:30Speaker 3: Okay. Okay.
- 8:31Speaker 2: Actually, I don't even know. Like, I don't know about him.
- 8:33Speaker 2: I don't like.
- 8:35Speaker 1: Relate with that story or the song or whatever. So
- 8:38Speaker 1: I don't even really know what the little drummer boy
- 8:40Speaker 1: is about. So maybe it relates.
- 8:41Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 8:42Speaker 2: You guys tell me.
- 8:43Speaker 1: During the English Civil War, a 12-year-old Irish Confederate cavalier,
- 8:49Speaker 1: which were known as the Royalists, I guess.
- 8:51Speaker 2: Oh. I don't know a lot about the English Civil War. Yeah,
- 8:55Speaker 2: me either.
- 8:56Speaker 3: Apologies.
- 8:57Speaker 1: He was a drummer boy who was executed along with
- 9:01Speaker 1: other soldiers at the Royal Standard. Oh.
- 9:04Speaker 2: By roundhead soldiers, which were the parliamentarians. Executed? Yeah, they
- 9:11Speaker 2: were executed because it was.
- 9:14Speaker 1: I guess they executed a lot of people back then.
- 9:16Speaker 3: You know, that was kind of a thing.
- 9:18Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:19Speaker 1: England, man.
- 9:20Speaker 2: They'd be cutting off heads.
- 9:21Speaker 3: Kind of a bummer.
- 9:23Speaker 2: Oh, and I kind of gave it away.
- 9:25Speaker 1: So their heads were put on spikes outside the pub.
- 9:29Speaker 3: Oh, yuck. I don't like that.
- 9:31Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 9:32Speaker 2: It's like such a gross... It really is. Don't be
- 9:38Speaker 2: the royalist. Your head will be here on the spike.
- 9:41Speaker 3: Put your head on the spike.
- 9:43Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:43Speaker 3: You know, not what I would like anybody to do
- 9:46Speaker 3: with my head.
- 9:47Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:48Speaker 1: It's very Game of Thrones, too.
- 9:50Speaker 3: I was just going to say, gosh, I forget what
- 9:53Speaker 3: the new show is called, but yeah. it's House of Dragons.
- 9:59Speaker 3: It's giving House.
- 10:00Speaker 2: Of Dragons a little bit. I haven't watched it yet.
- 10:04Speaker 1: People say you can still hear the poor boy beating
- 10:06Speaker 1: his drum at night.
- 10:08Speaker 3: Oh, no.
- 10:09Speaker 1: That's even more sad because like he wasn't even fighting.
- 10:12Speaker 1: He was just a drummer.
- 10:14Speaker 2: Which, I don't know. I don't know why you... I
- 10:16Speaker 2: don't get why there would be kids drumming in a war, but.
- 10:20Speaker 3: I mean, yeah. I feel like I have so many
- 10:22Speaker 3: questions about the origin of that from.
- 10:26Speaker 2: Like, does it... I should look.
- 10:28Speaker 1: I really want to, like, look into the purpose. Because
- 10:30Speaker 1: I'm like, does it just, like... Drumming, does it, like...
- 10:33Speaker 1: pick up the vibe for people to, like, want to
- 10:34Speaker 1: kill or, like, let people know they're coming, but why
- 10:37Speaker 1: would you do that?
- 10:38Speaker 3: Well, okay, so here's the thing, and you'll maybe kind
- 10:42Speaker 3: of remember this from learning about, like, the Revolutionary War here.
- 10:49Speaker 3: So in England, and, like, traditionally in European warfare, it was, like, lines, right? Yeah.
- 10:56Speaker 3: That's where, like, when they talk about, like, front lines.
- 10:59Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:00Speaker 3: It was because they all just lined up in a
- 11:02Speaker 3: field and, like, shot at each other. And it was
- 11:04Speaker 3: very orderly. And I'm like, why.
- 11:07Speaker 2: Would anyone want to do war that way? It doesn't...
- 11:11Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 11:12Speaker 3: It doesn't compute to me, but I didn't come from
- 11:14Speaker 3: a time where that was normal. Yeah. So, I mean,
- 11:18Speaker 3: they had that because I think that they, like, kind
- 11:21Speaker 3: of played everybody in... It's very strange. There was a
- 11:25Speaker 3: lot of pageantry involved.
- 11:27Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what it seems like.
- 11:29Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 11:29Speaker 2: Like, why? You're literally killing each other.
- 11:33Speaker 3: Right.
- 11:33Speaker 2: I don't get it. But, you know.
- 11:36Speaker 3: Lots of high-ranking military officials that made some choices that
- 11:41Speaker 3: I'm like, huh, so I think your talents could have
- 11:44Speaker 3: been used maybe on Broadway.
- 11:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 11:47Speaker 2: Very theatrical.
- 11:49Speaker 4: Uh-huh.
- 11:50Speaker 3: Yeah. Isn't that a vibe?
- 11:51Speaker 2: Heads on spikes.
- 11:52Speaker 3: Right?
- 11:55Speaker 1: The most reported apparition seen at the pub is a
- 11:58Speaker 1: man walking through and disappearing into the fireplace in the
- 12:05Speaker 1: candle room, which I don't know what the candle room is,
- 12:07Speaker 1: but it sounds witchy and I want to go to there.
- 12:11Speaker 2: I have sort of.
- 12:12Speaker 3: Mixed feelings about that.
- 12:15Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah.
- 12:17Speaker 2: Maybe, but... I mean, he doesn't do anything. He just
- 12:19Speaker 2: walks in and through.
- 12:21Speaker 1: And I don't know if he has like some sort
- 12:23Speaker 1: of attachment to the fireplace or if he's.
- 12:26Speaker 3: He would have to, wouldn't he?
- 12:28Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 12:29Speaker 1: Or if he's just walking through a place, maybe the
- 12:31Speaker 1: fireplace wasn't there before when he died and he's just
- 12:34Speaker 1: kind of residual.
- 12:35Speaker 3: I just feel as though I would have some strong
- 12:39Speaker 3: feelings about witnessing that.
- 12:41Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 12:41Speaker 2: You know, I just... It would be interesting. Yeah.
- 12:43Speaker 1: I'm down.
- 12:44Speaker 2: I'm down. Let's go to England.
- 12:46Speaker 3: I mean, you don't have to twist my arm to
- 12:49Speaker 3: go back to England.
- 12:50Speaker 2: Do you want to look at the pub?
- 12:52Speaker 3: It looks like the pub in like Harry Potter or something.
- 12:55Speaker 2: I know. It's so pretty. The windows. I can't. I
- 13:00Speaker 2: want to go here.
- 13:01Speaker 3: Steak night.
- 13:03Speaker 2: Steak night. Is this in London? I think it's like
- 13:06Speaker 2: right outside of London.
- 13:08Speaker 3: It is right outside.
- 13:10Speaker 2: Burgundy shirt.
- 13:10Speaker 3: Well, this looks like it might be like maybe an
- 13:12Speaker 3: hour outside of London.
- 13:14Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 13:14Speaker 3: If I had to guess.
- 13:15Speaker 2: But I mean, it's outside London. It's close enough.
- 13:20Speaker 3: It's close enough. They've used it for a lot of filming.
- 13:24Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 13:24Speaker 2: Hot fuzz!
- 13:26Speaker 3: I knew I recognized it.
- 13:29Speaker 2: Yeah, I didn't list out all the films it was in,
- 13:31Speaker 2: but it was in quite a few. Okay.
- 13:34Speaker 3: Back to business.
- 13:35Speaker 1: I had to show you because it's just so cute.
- 13:38Speaker 2: Okay, so The Disappearing Man. Who do you think it is? No,
- 13:41Speaker 2: I'm just kidding. I mean, I have. You would literally, like,
- 13:44Speaker 2: how could you guess?
- 13:46Speaker 3: But that fireplace, though.
- 13:48Speaker 1: I know.
- 13:48Speaker 2: I was like, is this the fireplace in the candle room?
- 13:51Speaker 3: That's huge.
- 13:52Speaker 2: Are there multiple fireplaces in this building? I don't know.
- 13:55Speaker 3: Somebody could totally walk into that fireplace.
- 13:58Speaker 1: Well, hopefully he's not just, like, continuously getting burned in
- 14:02Speaker 1: his afterlife, unless he was a horrible person.
- 14:04Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 14:05Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 14:06Speaker 1: So they don't really know who this is, but they
- 14:08Speaker 1: think it might be a man who was accidentally ran
- 14:10Speaker 1: over by a horse-drawn carriage.
- 14:12Speaker 3: What?
- 14:13Speaker 2: Like, you know, back in the day when horse-drawn carriages
- 14:15Speaker 2: were a thing. Not like currently.
- 14:17Speaker 3: Not like yesterday.
- 14:18Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 14:19Speaker 2: Not like a fun touristy horse-drawn carriage thing. It was
- 14:22Speaker 2: like older. Okay. That's fair.
- 14:25Speaker 3: Okay. But so you get hit by a carriage and
- 14:27Speaker 3: then you spend the afterlife walking into fireplaces.
- 14:29Speaker 2: I don't know. Maybe he's wandering around, doesn't know where
- 14:32Speaker 2: he is.
- 14:33Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 14:33Speaker 3: I would say he seems a little bit discombobulated.
- 14:36Speaker 2: I'm not sure. I don't know for sure.
- 14:39Speaker 3: But I mean, if you're walking into fireplaces, I have
- 14:42Speaker 3: to consider that it's possible that it's because you were
- 14:47Speaker 3: in a carriage accident and you have a head injury.
- 14:50Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 14:50Speaker 3: You have a traumatic brain injury, my friend.
- 14:52Speaker 2: Or maybe he's like doesn't know he's dead. I don't know.
- 14:56Speaker 2: Doesn't is like trying to kill himself. I don't know.
- 15:00Speaker 3: He's testing it like The only way I could possibly
- 15:04Speaker 3: do this is if I was a ghost.
- 15:07Speaker 1: It reminds me of that weird, those weird videos of
- 15:11Speaker 1: like this little AI creature guy who like just like
- 15:14Speaker 1: throws himself in the fire.
- 15:16Speaker 3: Oh my God.
- 15:18Speaker 2: I think I showed it to you before. I can't
- 15:19Speaker 2: remember his name at the moment.
- 15:21Speaker 1: But anyway, the driver of the carriage happened to be
- 15:26Speaker 1: the Earl of Barrymore.
- 15:28Speaker 2: Oh, well. Yeah.
- 15:30Speaker 1: So he was part of the four horse club, which
- 15:32Speaker 1: I guess was like a driving club for rich people
- 15:35Speaker 1: because they couldn't like drive themselves. So it was like
- 15:37Speaker 1: cool to like have a club where they could drive.
- 15:40Speaker 2: I don't really know.
- 15:40Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 15:42Speaker 2: All right.
- 15:43Speaker 1: They were known to bribe coachmen to let them drive
- 15:47Speaker 1: their carriages.
- 15:48Speaker 3: And I think now we know why they weren't.
- 15:51Speaker 2: Supposed to drive.
- 15:52Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 15:53Speaker 1: Well, and this wasn't like a little Sunday drive around town.
- 15:57Speaker 1: They were pretty reckless and like to go fast.
- 16:00Speaker 2: Yeah. If you're not first, you're last.
- 16:02Speaker 3: We're not talking about a Maserati here. Like, How do
- 16:07Speaker 3: you not see a pedestrian before you hit them with
- 16:10Speaker 3: a horse-drawn carriage?
- 16:11Speaker 2: Because you can't see it past the horse's butt. I
- 16:13Speaker 2: don't know. It's a blind spot.
- 16:17Speaker 1: They brought the man who was hit into the pub
- 16:19Speaker 1: and then bribed the owner to keep it hidden.
- 16:22Speaker 2: What? Yeah. So there's a lot of bribery going around
- 16:25Speaker 2: with this Earl guy.
- 16:26Speaker 3: I just don't understand why that seemed necessary. Like, why
- 16:31Speaker 3: are you dragging the pub owner into this?
- 16:33Speaker 2: I know. Well, I guess they had, they couldn't just
- 16:35Speaker 2: like leave him in the street.
- 16:36Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 16:36Speaker 1: Maybe they tried to save him and couldn't. I have
- 16:39Speaker 1: no more information.
- 16:41Speaker 3: It's great because I have nothing but questions.
- 16:44Speaker 2: So I don't know.
- 16:45Speaker 1: I feel like sometimes if like a death was very sudden,
- 16:48Speaker 1: maybe the spirit is kind of just confused and just
- 16:51Speaker 1: like wandering around.
- 16:52Speaker 2: And I don't know.
- 16:54Speaker 3: Dude is discombobulated. I said it once and I'll say
- 16:57Speaker 3: it again.
- 16:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I think you're right. Yeah.
- 17:00Speaker 1: People also hear a woman's soft singing seemingly coming from nowhere. Okay.
- 17:07Speaker 2: And the apparition of a woman is seen in the
- 17:09Speaker 2: ladies' rooms. Okay.
- 17:11Speaker 3: I just, you know, as unsettling as it would be
- 17:14Speaker 3: to see somebody walk into a fireplace, if I could
- 17:17Speaker 3: just have a moment of peace when I use the facilities.
- 17:21Speaker 2: No, you might see a lady in there and she
- 17:22Speaker 2: might be singing at you.
- 17:24Speaker 3: Which is like the single most obnoxious thing. Please do
- 17:29Speaker 3: not make me participate in a forcible musical on the toilet.
- 17:33Speaker 1: Oh, I would love that. Please sing for me on
- 17:36Speaker 1: the toilet. Maybe she's taking a deuce and she's singing
- 17:42Speaker 1: to cover up the sounds of the plopping.
- 17:44Speaker 3: I mean, anything's possible.
- 17:51Speaker 1: So they don't know who she was either when she
- 17:54Speaker 1: was alive, but maybe a barmaid or maybe one of
- 17:58Speaker 1: the pub's cunning women. which would be like a healer
- 18:03Speaker 1: or an herbalist who tended fires and shared folklore.
- 18:08Speaker 2: How interesting. And if that doesn't sound like a witch,
- 18:11Speaker 2: I don't know what does.
- 18:12Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know what else to say.
- 18:14Speaker 2: So I'm going to go with she was a witch.
- 18:17Speaker 3: Yeah, I think so.
- 18:20Speaker 1: Speaking of witches, near the pub is a very old
- 18:23Speaker 1: road called Riding Lane, which is like great naming skills
- 18:28Speaker 1: right there is a sunken hollow by the road known
- 18:35Speaker 1: as hag pit wow okay where witches were known to
- 18:40Speaker 1: gather and probably hex all the men in town for
- 18:43Speaker 1: driving crazy and running people.
- 18:44Speaker 3: Over i mean which feels fair at that point really you.
- 18:48Speaker 1: Know i mean obviously i made that up but it
- 18:50Speaker 1: was known for like witchy witchcraft area yeah they kind
- 18:54Speaker 1: of painted it as like a bad vibe.
- 18:56Speaker 2: Oh. Like hag pit.
- 18:58Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 18:59Speaker 2: It's where all those creepy witches meet. But I think
- 19:02Speaker 2: it sounds magical. I mean, I think it sounds magical.
- 19:04Speaker 2: I want to go to hag pit.
- 19:06Speaker 3: Honestly.
- 19:07Speaker 2: In 1944, a U.S. B-17 Flying Fortress called the Tomahawk
- 19:13Speaker 2: Warrior crashed on riding lane, killing nine crewmen.
- 19:17Speaker 1: What?
- 19:18Speaker 4: I know.
- 19:19Speaker 2: It's kind of crazy, right? Yeah, a little bit. I
- 19:21Speaker 2: think it was 1944, like wartime. Yeah, World War II.
- 19:24Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:25Speaker 3: Right before the end of the war.
- 19:27Speaker 2: Yeah, so that was happening. Bummer. Today you might still
- 19:32Speaker 2: hear the sound of a plane in an empty sky. Oh, okay.
- 19:37Speaker 3: Wouldn't that be kind of creepy? Yeah, that'd be super creepy.
- 19:41Speaker 2: Where's the plane? And then you don't see it.
- 19:46Speaker 1: Another filming location. This one's really, really cool and pretty.
- 19:50Speaker 1: It's called the Old Wardour Castle in Wiltshire.
- 19:54Speaker 2: Wiltshire. Wiltshire. Don't say Shire. Wiltshire.
- 19:57Speaker 3: Well, sure.
- 19:59Speaker 2: I almost did it. It's hard because it's spelled shire.
- 20:02Speaker 3: Yeah, well, and then, you know, when they're talking about, like,
- 20:06Speaker 3: in Lord of the Rings, it's the shire. So I
- 20:10Speaker 3: just feel like it's a little bit of mixed messaging
- 20:13Speaker 3: on the shire.
- 20:14Speaker 1: It sounds more magical, and I like it better, but
- 20:16Speaker 1: I understand that's not how you pronounce it. So this
- 20:19Speaker 1: castle is shaped like a hexagon built from white stone
- 20:23Speaker 1: in the 14th century. Oh!
- 20:25Speaker 3: I want it.
- 20:27Speaker 2: But it was severely damaged during the English Civil War.
- 20:30Speaker 2: I mean, that kind of makes sense.
- 20:33Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 20:34Speaker 2: I feel like. Civil War does tend to have that
- 20:37Speaker 2: sort of... They kind of fuck shit up. Yeah. God.
- 20:41Speaker 2: The haunting ruins are now an English heritage site and
- 20:45Speaker 2: a great place for filming movies like Robin Hood, Prince
- 20:48Speaker 2: of Thieves, and of course, Practical Magic 2.
- 20:52Speaker 1: Hello!
- 20:53Speaker 3: It doesn't look like it's that ruined.
- 20:55Speaker 2: You should see the back of it. Well, yeah.
- 20:57Speaker 3: I can see that it looks like she may have
- 20:59Speaker 3: a little run in her stockings there. This reminds me
- 21:04Speaker 3: of the show that ruined my life that was about
- 21:07Speaker 3: the people that they were renovating the Chateau that she
- 21:13Speaker 3: inherited from her grandfather.
- 21:15Speaker 1: Oh.
- 21:17Speaker 3: That he bought in like the 1980s. And it's so massive.
- 21:21Speaker 3: Like they could spend the rest of their lives trying
- 21:24Speaker 3: to restore it and maybe still have unfinished.
- 21:29Speaker 2: Oh my gosh.
- 21:30Speaker 3: I mean, the place is so old. That like a
- 21:34Speaker 3: king from, I want to say that it was either
- 21:36Speaker 3: the 13 or the 1400s had his honeymoon there.
- 21:40Speaker 2: Oh my God. Wow.
- 21:43Speaker 3: So. Yeah.
- 21:45Speaker 2: I feel like she just needs to share it.
- 21:47Speaker 1: Honestly.
- 21:48Speaker 2: With us.
- 21:49Speaker 3: I know.
- 21:50Speaker 2: We'll help with renovations.
- 21:51Speaker 3: Where is my goddamn chateau?
- 21:54Speaker 2: Give me a mallet. Let's knock some shit down. Is
- 21:57Speaker 2: that what you do with a mallet? I don't know.
- 21:59Speaker 3: Sure.
- 22:00Speaker 2: So there are some. ghosties here as well. The gray lady.
- 22:06Speaker 2: Of course.
- 22:07Speaker 1: Which is like, I don't know, is that offensive? Are
- 22:09Speaker 1: you calling me old? Like, is my hair gray or
- 22:12Speaker 1: do I just appear gray?
- 22:14Speaker 3: You know, and here's the thing is it's like, okay,
- 22:17Speaker 3: lady in white, lady gray, da-da-da-da-da.
- 22:20Speaker 2: Like, ugh.
- 22:22Speaker 1: The most famous ghost at Old Wardour Castle is believed
- 22:26Speaker 1: to belong to Lady Blanche Arendelle. Wow. who was actually
- 22:32Speaker 1: in the castle with her kids and staff and 25
- 22:35Speaker 1: men while it was being attacked by 1,300 soldiers in
- 22:38Speaker 1: the war.
- 22:40Speaker 2: Super cool. Yeah.
- 22:41Speaker 3: Those seem like totally fair odds.
- 22:44Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 22:45Speaker 2: Yeah. For sure. They did not die there, though, thankfully. Oh, wow.
- 22:50Speaker 1: But after nine days of being severely outnumbered and, like,
- 22:54Speaker 1: they were just, like, attacking the house, like, knocking bricks down.
- 22:58Speaker 2: Like, you know, like, I don't know if they were
- 23:00Speaker 2: bombing it or, like, shooting at it.
- 23:02Speaker 3: Bombing. It's like... I mean, taking the big like what's
- 23:06Speaker 3: the equivalent in that day?
- 23:08Speaker 1: Yeah. You know, like where they take the big tree
- 23:10Speaker 1: logs and like, yeah, the wall. So they were just
- 23:15Speaker 1: fucking this place up. All these people were in there
- 23:17Speaker 1: for nine days and there were children. Yeah.
- 23:20Speaker 3: And I mean, at some point they're going to run
- 23:24Speaker 3: out of like food.
- 23:25Speaker 2: Yeah. So crazy.
- 23:28Speaker 1: Crazy. But so they were severely outnumbered and they surrendered
- 23:32Speaker 1: the castle, obviously.
- 23:33Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 23:34Speaker 2: It was either that or probably die. Yeah.
- 23:37Speaker 1: People think it's her apparition they see walking all around
- 23:40Speaker 1: the grounds at twilight.
- 23:43Speaker 2: That makes sense.
- 23:45Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 23:46Speaker 1: She likes to like wander through the castle, maybe peek
- 23:49Speaker 1: out from windows. And she's seen a lot.
- 23:52Speaker 2: By the lake.
- 23:53Speaker 3: Yeah. I mean, that's the shit that I'd be doing.
- 23:56Speaker 3: I'm like, still my past. Fucking castle.
- 23:59Speaker 2: This is my castle now. You can't take it from me. Assholes.
- 24:02Speaker 1: And there's like a ton of fucking history about this castle.
- 24:05Speaker 1: I didn't even like touch a little surface of it.
- 24:09Speaker 2: There's a ton.
- 24:10Speaker 1: So if you need to read about it, if you're
- 24:11Speaker 1: just so curious, like where her husband was, what was
- 24:15Speaker 1: he doing?
- 24:15Speaker 3: Seriously.
- 24:16Speaker 2: Why they were being attacked. You can just go to
- 24:18Speaker 2: my sources. You can figure it out. Excellent.
- 24:22Speaker 1: Well, they were attacked because it was a civil war
- 24:23Speaker 1: and they were on opposite sides. So it's pretty straightforward, but.
- 24:26Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:27Speaker 3: I mean, but if you need the deets.
- 24:30Speaker 1: People also hear sounds coming from the woods around the property. Like,
- 24:33Speaker 1: it sounds like there's a bunch of people out there
- 24:36Speaker 1: camping or something. Like, they're talking, they hear movement, but, like,
- 24:41Speaker 1: there's no place to camp.
- 24:43Speaker 2: Like, it's not habitable in those woods. They're all overgrown.
- 24:47Speaker 3: Like, Well, and I was going to say, like, it's
- 24:49Speaker 3: a huge green space outside of the castle. Like when
- 24:54Speaker 3: you see like kind of some of the zoomed out
- 24:56Speaker 3: or like drone.
- 24:58Speaker 2: Photos of it.
- 24:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 25:00Speaker 3: So, I mean, the woods are nearby. But yeah, I
- 25:04Speaker 3: can't imagine that's. You're not camping there.
- 25:07Speaker 2: Yeah. No one's camping there.
- 25:09Speaker 1: But they think it's like residual sounds of the soldiers
- 25:12Speaker 1: who would have been attacking.
- 25:13Speaker 2: They would have been camping there.
- 25:14Speaker 1: They would have been camping outside there. I would camp there.
- 25:21Speaker 3: No, you wouldn't.
- 25:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I would. I would camp in the castle.
- 25:25Speaker 4: Ew.
- 25:25Speaker 2: I want to camp in the creepy woods. Yeah, that's fair.
- 25:29Speaker 2: I don't know. What am I saying?
- 25:30Speaker 3: They don't have wolves anymore in England.
- 25:32Speaker 2: They don't? No.
- 25:33Speaker 3: They've been extinct in England for hundreds of years.
- 25:37Speaker 2: I had no idea. Yeah, I know.
- 25:38Speaker 3: Aww. I found that out the other day and I
- 25:41Speaker 3: was like, this is why you can't have nice things.
- 25:45Speaker 2: No wolves for you. No wolves for you. Okay, so
- 25:49Speaker 2: I have a weird one for you. I'll send it
- 25:53Speaker 2: to you. Someone caught a ghost on Photograph.
- 25:57Speaker 1: A woman visited and took a photo in like one
- 26:00Speaker 1: of the archways in the castle. She's in a pink dress.
- 26:03Speaker 1: She's kind of just leaning against the wall with her hand.
- 26:07Speaker 2: And then you can see.
- 26:07Speaker 1: Like her hands on her hip, her elbows kind of
- 26:11Speaker 1: pointed out. Do you see like the figure that her
- 26:13Speaker 1: elbow is kind of pointing at?
- 26:15Speaker 2: Yeah. So it looks like... Hold on.
- 26:17Speaker 3: I'm zooming in.
- 26:19Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 26:19Speaker 3: Oh, I went too big. Oh, no.
- 26:22Speaker 2: It too big.
- 26:23Speaker 3: I went too big.
- 26:24Speaker 2: Okay. Okay.
- 26:27Speaker 1: It looks like an elderly person with a cane and glasses.
- 26:32Speaker 1: I can't tell if it's a man or a woman.
- 26:34Speaker 3: It looks like a man. It does.
- 26:37Speaker 2: But like some older women have short hair. So I
- 26:39Speaker 2: don't know. I can't really.
- 26:41Speaker 3: To me, in like the face, head area, it's sort
- 26:46Speaker 3: of amorphous. I'm not really seeing like a specific hairdo. So...
- 26:51Speaker 3: But based on the frame, that's what I'm going off of.
- 26:54Speaker 2: I kind of thought it was too.
- 26:56Speaker 1: She said she got home and looked at the photos
- 26:58Speaker 1: and like was very shocked to see something in her
- 27:01Speaker 1: photos because there was nobody around.
- 27:04Speaker 2: Yeah. It's interesting. I don't, I'm curious what you guys
- 27:09Speaker 2: think of it. I'm not sure.
- 27:10Speaker 1: I don't, it wasn't like one of our listeners sent
- 27:13Speaker 1: this to us. So I'm like a little more skeptical.
- 27:16Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 27:17Speaker 1: It looks a little too, I don't know, like placed. I,
- 27:20Speaker 1: I'm a, I don't know. I'm a photographer, so I
- 27:25Speaker 1: kind of feel like I can tell if something's a
- 27:29Speaker 1: fake a little bit more than maybe the average person.
- 27:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 27:34Speaker 3: It's funny because I was just thinking. I was like,
- 27:37Speaker 3: I'm so curious to see what Chris thinks of it.
- 27:40Speaker 2: Yeah, me too. He's going to say it's fake.
- 27:43Speaker 1: The most interesting part to me is... the leg like
- 27:47Speaker 1: there's kind of like a hole in the ground behind
- 27:50Speaker 1: him and it looks like it's it's like when you're
- 27:54Speaker 1: looking through water like the hole doesn't like line up
- 27:57Speaker 1: so that's kind of like the most interesting part to
- 27:59Speaker 1: me i don't know if that means i think it's
- 28:03Speaker 1: baked or if that that makes me think it's more real.
- 28:08Speaker 3: I don't know and i want to look at it
- 28:10Speaker 3: on a bigger monitor yeah.
- 28:14Speaker 2: Yes.
- 28:15Speaker 3: I want to put it on the TV out in
- 28:16Speaker 3: the living room.
- 28:17Speaker 2: Let's do it.
- 28:18Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 28:18Speaker 2: Let's totally zoom in. So I don't know. I can't tell.
- 28:23Speaker 1: But it's obviously like if it is real, it's like
- 28:26Speaker 1: a newer ghost, like a more modern person.
- 28:29Speaker 2: It kind of seems.
- 28:30Speaker 1: It doesn't seem like someone who would have like lived
- 28:32Speaker 1: in the castle back in the day or anything.
- 28:35Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 28:36Speaker 1: Maybe.
- 28:36Speaker 2: Maybe.
- 28:37Speaker 3: Maybe because it's just like more modern. They kind of. Yeah,
- 28:42Speaker 3: I know what you're saying. It's hard to put your
- 28:44Speaker 3: finger on exactly like why, because it's so faint, too,
- 28:49Speaker 3: is the thing. So I'm really interested to see it
- 28:54Speaker 3: on a bigger screen.
- 28:56Speaker 1: Yeah, we'll have to see what Chris says and if
- 28:58Speaker 1: he has anything to add. I'm so interested. On this
- 29:03Speaker 1: blog we're looking at called Weird Wiltshire, there's an experience
- 29:08Speaker 1: from a woman named Wendy, and I'm going to read
- 29:09Speaker 1: it to you because it's kind of funny. Okay. So
- 29:14Speaker 1: she says, when visiting Warder, I myself had something happen
- 29:18Speaker 1: I just cannot explain. My husband and daughter had begun
- 29:22Speaker 1: walking into the grotto. I leant forward to take a
- 29:26Speaker 1: photo into one of the crevices, only to be grabbed
- 29:29Speaker 1: on my left cheek.
- 29:30Speaker 2: Of my backside by a hand.
- 29:34Speaker 1: I had presumed this was my daughter as a joke,
- 29:37Speaker 1: but she was very much standing to my right. and
- 29:40Speaker 1: would have never had time to move so quickly to
- 29:43Speaker 1: my reaction. I didn't feel unnerved at all. Actually, myself
- 29:47Speaker 1: and my family laughed about it. And it's now become
- 29:49Speaker 1: a story for my holiday to tell family and friends.
- 29:53Speaker 1: And now I really want to go there and get
- 29:54Speaker 1: my butt grabbed by a ghost.
- 29:58Speaker 2: Oh, my God. Gusty.
- 30:00Speaker 3: Wow.
- 30:00Speaker 2: Someone out there grabbing butts.
- 30:02Speaker 3: Sir, this is a Wendy's. In a castle.
- 30:07Speaker 2: Can you imagine?
- 30:09Speaker 3: I mean, they have a McDonald's in the loop, so.
- 30:12Speaker 1: Weird.
- 30:14Speaker 2: I wouldn't agree with that.
- 30:17Speaker 3: I mean, yeah.
- 30:19Speaker 2: Did you go to it?
- 30:20Speaker 3: Obviously.
- 30:21Speaker 2: Oh my gosh.
- 30:22Speaker 3: Well, it's not like they, you know, they don't just have,
- 30:24Speaker 3: it's not like when you go to Mall of America
- 30:27Speaker 3: or something, they've got a whole like huge food court
- 30:29Speaker 3: or something.
- 30:30Speaker 2: Yeah, but like, why would they have, like, wouldn't they
- 30:33Speaker 2: have something better? Well, you would think.
- 30:38Speaker 3: But everybody all over the world like knows McDonald's.
- 30:42Speaker 2: Unfortunately.
- 30:43Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 30:44Speaker 2: I don't even know where the Lerve is. Paris.
- 30:47Speaker 1: I have no desire. I don't care.
- 30:50Speaker 4: To what?
- 30:51Speaker 2: To go to the Lerve.
- 30:56Speaker 3: What even is it?
- 30:57Speaker 4: A museum?
- 30:57Speaker 3: It's a museum.
- 30:58Speaker 2: That's where the Mona Lisa is. I don't need to
- 31:01Speaker 2: see that bitch. I mean, you really don't. And she's small.
- 31:04Speaker 2: She's shockingly small. I've seen a picture of it online. Yeah.
- 31:09Speaker 1: No, honestly, if someone was taking me, like, I would
- 31:12Speaker 1: totally go, but it's not, like, a destination I would, like,
- 31:16Speaker 1: plan for myself, you know?
- 31:18Speaker 3: Yeah. I get it. I thought that the Louvre was
- 31:22Speaker 3: really awesome, to be honest, just because... I mean, we're
- 31:27Speaker 3: not going for the Mona Lisa.
- 31:29Speaker 2: Right.
- 31:29Speaker 3: We're going because there's a ton of incredible art there.
- 31:33Speaker 3: And it's like, I mean, you could spend a whole
- 31:35Speaker 3: day there and not like really get to everything and have.
- 31:39Speaker 2: All the time. Kind of.
- 31:42Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 31:42Speaker 3: Kind of like that. For us dumb Americans.
- 31:46Speaker 1: Is there like a big mascot of.
- 31:51Speaker 2: The Lou? What's her name? The Mona Lisa?
- 31:53Speaker 1: Is there like a big Mona Lisa mascot walking around
- 31:56Speaker 1: you could take pictures of?
- 31:57Speaker 2: I need to be more cultured.
- 32:00Speaker 3: Maybe a tad.
- 32:01Speaker 2: Completely up to you. And I'm the one bitching about
- 32:03Speaker 2: the McDonald's.
- 32:04Speaker 3: I know.
- 32:05Speaker 2: I'm like.
- 32:06Speaker 3: I'm getting sort of mixed messages from you on this.
- 32:09Speaker 1: I'm really good at that. You guys probably have noticed.
- 32:12Speaker 1: If you listen to me long enough, I am full of.
- 32:16Speaker 2: Contradictions. Contradictions.
- 32:19Speaker 3: People contain multitudes. Yeah, honestly, actually... Rather than the McDonald's
- 32:25Speaker 3: at the Louvre, I think what we should do is, like,
- 32:28Speaker 3: we should tell Taylin to put in one of the
- 32:30Speaker 3: pictures of the Mona Lisa where she has.
- 32:33Speaker 1: A thing of McDonald's fries.
- 32:38Speaker 3: Very incredible.
- 32:39Speaker 2: That's funny.
- 32:40Speaker 4: They should put fries for her eyebrows.
- 32:46Speaker 2: I still have any. That's weird. The Mona Lisa is
- 32:53Speaker 2: pretty interesting.
- 32:54Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 32:55Speaker 1: It is.
- 32:55Speaker 2: I'm being kind of silly, but it is interesting.
- 32:59Speaker 1: I really like, like I learned about, I don't know
- 33:01Speaker 1: if we talked about in school or if I just
- 33:03Speaker 1: like watched a documentary on like why she has no
- 33:06Speaker 1: eyebrows and like why she's smiling a little bit and
- 33:08Speaker 1: like how that is.
- 33:10Speaker 2: Not normal for the.
- 33:11Speaker 3: Time yeah so there's a lot of really interesting background
- 33:16Speaker 3: on it.
- 33:17Speaker 1: And there's another place that they filmed in Practical Magic
- 33:22Speaker 1: 2 and it's called the Red Cross Way it's in
- 33:24Speaker 1: Southwark it's like a road just a road in London
- 33:28Speaker 1: it's near the London Bridge on this road though there
- 33:33Speaker 1: is can you guess something I always bring up in
- 33:37Speaker 1: every episode if I can There's a graveyard. And it's
- 33:42Speaker 1: called the Crossbones Graveyard. In the medieval times, there were
- 33:48Speaker 1: sex workers around this area.
- 33:49Speaker 2: Well, there are sex workers everywhere. But in this area,
- 33:56Speaker 2: they were called the Winchester Geese.
- 34:00Speaker 3: Yeah, because they call women birds.
- 34:04Speaker 2: Do they? Yeah. Oh. That's like a slate.
- 34:07Speaker 3: I don't know that that's why.
- 34:09Speaker 2: Y'all will burn.
- 34:10Speaker 3: I don't know that.
- 34:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 34:12Speaker 1: Well, no one really knows why they were called geese,
- 34:14Speaker 1: but it says here that it might possibly be because
- 34:18Speaker 1: of the noises that they would make to attract men. Okay.
- 34:23Speaker 2: Customers. I'm like, what are they out there like?
- 34:29Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 34:31Speaker 2: Are they hissing? Yeah.
- 34:35Speaker 3: That's my experience of what geese sound like. They're psycho.
- 34:40Speaker 2: So I don't know.
- 34:41Speaker 1: They're probably like loud and like trying to get attention.
- 34:43Speaker 1: I guess.
- 34:44Speaker 2: So I don't know. But I thought that was pretty funny.
- 34:49Speaker 2: That's interesting.
- 34:49Speaker 1: Yeah. But obviously this time a lot of people were
- 34:53Speaker 1: just dropping dead left and right. Like the life expectancy
- 34:56Speaker 1: wasn't good.
- 34:57Speaker 3: It wasn't great.
- 34:58Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 34:58Speaker 1: There was shit going around everywhere. So the graveyard got
- 35:03Speaker 1: full like pretty quick. So they were kind of just
- 35:05Speaker 1: like mass.
- 35:06Speaker 3: Yeah, mass graving it.
- 35:07Speaker 2: Mass graving it until it got full.
- 35:09Speaker 1: Cool.
- 35:10Speaker 2: And then they shut it down and like paved over
- 35:13Speaker 2: it basically.
- 35:13Speaker 3: Oh, cool.
- 35:15Speaker 1: To like, you know, keep the city going, expanding, expanding.
- 35:19Speaker 1: It was also a hot spot for body snatchers. And
- 35:24Speaker 1: I'm like, why do they body snatch to sell for
- 35:30Speaker 1: anatomy classes? It says there is thought to be like 1,500
- 35:36Speaker 1: people buried there.
- 35:37Speaker 3: I feel like my instinct is to say it feels
- 35:40Speaker 3: like it should be more.
- 35:42Speaker 4: Right.
- 35:42Speaker 1: But it is a very small area. Like it's not
- 35:45Speaker 1: a massive area. So like that many people, I'm not
- 35:48Speaker 1: like one. small area that's like crazy to me that
- 35:53Speaker 1: is crazy so they were rediscovered in the 1900s when
- 35:57Speaker 1: it was dug up to extend you know extend the
- 36:00Speaker 1: town even further.
- 36:01Speaker 3: Over half of them were children that's a bummer which
- 36:05Speaker 3: is sad yeah so i gather this is not an
- 36:10Speaker 3: area that uh Has like super chill vibes. I came
- 36:15Speaker 3: across like this as I'm looking at images of like
- 36:18Speaker 3: the Red Cross way. I came across a blog and
- 36:23Speaker 3: like the headline above like this old timey picture of
- 36:27Speaker 3: these guys in their wool suits and stuff.
- 36:30Speaker 2: Oh.
- 36:30Speaker 3: It says the most undesirable reputation of any slum in London.
- 36:36Speaker 2: Oh no.
- 36:38Speaker 3: Yeah. So it seems like it may have been a rough.
- 36:42Speaker 1: I mean, I can imagine if there was a graveyard
- 36:45Speaker 1: in town. Like, obviously, it's not going to be the
- 36:48Speaker 1: best part of town, maybe. Now it's obviously a little
- 36:53Speaker 1: bit better. Maybe a lot a bit better. I don't
- 36:56Speaker 1: know for sure. But it is better than it used
- 36:59Speaker 1: to be. It's not like that anymore. Yeah.
- 37:04Speaker 3: But that quote, the most undesirable reputation of any slum
- 37:09Speaker 3: in London, actually came from the South London Chronicle. Wow,
- 37:15Speaker 3: like London even knows. London's like, trust me, girl, we know.
- 37:21Speaker 1: They did turn it into like a garden of remembrance
- 37:24Speaker 1: and they call them the outcast dead.
- 37:27Speaker 2: Like, you know, they didn't have headstones. They don't, they're
- 37:30Speaker 2: not really... identified.
- 37:32Speaker 1: Maybe some of them are, but not the majority of them.
- 37:36Speaker 1: And I don't even know if they dug all of
- 37:38Speaker 1: them up to like move them. It says they dug
- 37:40Speaker 1: some of them up, but I don't know if they
- 37:42Speaker 1: got them all.
- 37:43Speaker 3: Well, how could they even know if they did? Right.
- 37:46Speaker 2: Yeah. Gosh, especially if it was just a mass, like
- 37:50Speaker 2: mass graves kill me.
- 37:51Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 37:52Speaker 2: Oh, it's so sad. Not, not a good time. But
- 37:55Speaker 2: there is some, one more thing I wanted to read you.
- 37:58Speaker 2: It's a poem.
- 37:59Speaker 1: Okay, I'm just going to read this straight from the
- 38:01Speaker 1: article I found it in. In 1996, local writer John Constable.
- 38:06Speaker 1: Do you think he was a constable? Yeah.
- 38:10Speaker 3: I mean, if he wasn't, it sounds like he should
- 38:13Speaker 3: have been.
- 38:13Speaker 2: Oh, my gosh. Constable John Constable. Like, stop.
- 38:17Speaker 3: You'd have to just call him Constable John.
- 38:20Speaker 2: Right.
- 38:22Speaker 1: So in 1996, local writer John Constable had a vision
- 38:26Speaker 1: whilst writing Late at Night in which the goose, the
- 38:31Speaker 1: spirit of a medieval sex worker, because they.
- 38:33Speaker 2: Called them geese. Geese. She was the goose. The goose.
- 38:39Speaker 1: Showed him to the site of crossbones, which he says
- 38:43Speaker 1: he had never heard of before, and dictated.
- 38:45Speaker 2: A poem to him. And I'm going to read this
- 38:47Speaker 2: poem to you. Excellent.
- 38:49Speaker 1: For tonight in hell, they are toiling the bell for
- 38:54Speaker 1: the whore that lay at the tabard. And well, we
- 38:58Speaker 1: know how the carrion crow.
- 39:01Speaker 2: Doth feast in our crossbones graveyard. Okay. Don't you just
- 39:06Speaker 2: love that? Like, it gives me chills. Do I love that?
- 39:10Speaker 2: It's a poem written by a ghost, a prostitute called
- 39:13Speaker 2: The Goose. Like, this is amazing.
- 39:14Speaker 3: I mean, it's pretty intense.
- 39:17Speaker 1: It says the poem became the first of a series
- 39:19Speaker 1: called The Southwark Mysteries that were then performed at the
- 39:23Speaker 1: Globe and Southwark Cathedral. But I just really liked that.
- 39:27Speaker 1: I thought that a poem written by a ghost was
- 39:29Speaker 1: fucking awesome.
- 39:30Speaker 3: Yeah. I mean, let's be honest. That's pretty cool.
- 39:34Speaker 1: Yeah. And then the little remembrance garden that they have
- 39:37Speaker 1: is pretty cute. I think they have like a skull,
- 39:41Speaker 1: like they have creepy stuff, but like also like cute
- 39:44Speaker 1: garden-y stuff.
- 39:45Speaker 2: I like it. Oh, see, this is nice. They've got
- 39:49Speaker 2: like a nice like covered wooden path. That is nice.
- 39:54Speaker 1: The sign, it has a skull and crossbones on it
- 39:56Speaker 1: with like a COVID mask. And it says this is
- 40:00Speaker 1: still the crossbones graveyard.
- 40:01Speaker 3: I kind of dig that.
- 40:03Speaker 2: So it's like, don't forget.
- 40:04Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 40:05Speaker 2: These kind of like forgotten people. And the burial place
- 40:11Speaker 2: of Captain Hook. Oh, it's a different. That's a clickbait.
- 40:17Speaker 2: I want to know where Captain Hook is buried. Is
- 40:19Speaker 2: he real? I thought he was fake.
- 40:21Speaker 3: Well, listen, I'm sure... Hook is actually a very common name,
- 40:26Speaker 3: so there's got to have been.
- 40:28Speaker 2: A lot of hook handmen.
- 40:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 40:30Speaker 2: Getting their hands cut off for touching booties. it all
- 40:37Speaker 2: circles back okay we'll look at the graveyard of captain
- 40:40Speaker 2: hook later.
- 40:40Speaker 4: Okay but that's all i have for you i just
- 40:45Speaker 4: i it's not totally related to the pnw but it
- 40:49Speaker 4: is because practical magic one was shot in the pacific
- 40:53Speaker 4: northwest so i could talk about anything i want.
- 40:55Speaker 3: Yeah listen if you're just now figuring that out.
- 41:00Speaker 2: Should we do some tarot? I thought we could use
- 41:02Speaker 2: the modern witch deck.
- 41:04Speaker 3: Yeah, I was just about to ask, like, which you want.
- 41:07Speaker 2: Okay.
- 41:09Speaker 1: Oh, boy.
- 41:10Speaker 2: Oh, no.
- 41:11Speaker 3: Oh, I've really done it now.
- 41:14Speaker 1: Oh, jeez.
- 41:18Speaker 2: Oh, boo. My bridge collapsed. London Bridge be falling down. Oh, no.
- 41:25Speaker 2: Is that offensive? I was thinking, like, I don't know.
- 41:28Speaker 2: Did that actually happen?
- 41:30Speaker 1: And did like a bunch of people die and we're
- 41:31Speaker 1: just like singing songs about London bridges falling down?
- 41:34Speaker 2: London, London, London.
- 41:36Speaker 3: Famously Fergie. Very sensitive.
- 41:39Speaker 2: Right.
- 41:40Speaker 3: Yes. Historical versions of London Bridge did suffer partial collapses,
- 41:47Speaker 3: were burnt down or got intentionally pulled down over the centuries.
- 41:53Speaker 3: though it never completely vanished into the river all at once.
- 41:57Speaker 3: Viking attack in the year 1014. Medieval collapses 1281 and 1437.
- 42:08Speaker 3: This is insane. I'll read this next part to you.
- 42:11Speaker 2: Dude, this is wild. This is why we do this podcast,
- 42:13Speaker 2: is to figure out weird shit. Weird facts.
- 42:18Speaker 3: Questions we didn't even know we had until somebody sat
- 42:21Speaker 3: us in front of a microphone. And by somebody, I
- 42:24Speaker 3: mean we.
- 42:24Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 42:25Speaker 2: The royal we. The royal we-we. Prince Albert.
- 42:31Speaker 3: The 1831 stone-arched bridge.
- 42:38Speaker 3: Began sinking under heavy modern traffic, and was dismantled in 1968.
- 42:45Speaker 3: It was famously sold to an American businessman and reconstructed
- 42:52Speaker 3: piece by piece in Lake Havasu City, arizona weird that
- 43:01Speaker 3: would literally be the only reason other than visiting my
- 43:04Speaker 3: cousin that i would randomly visit arizona.
- 43:08Speaker 2: Oh to see like where the london bridge was built london.
- 43:11Speaker 1: Bridge that's crazy that america saved london i know just
- 43:15Speaker 1: saying listen we save their asses in ww2 okay right
- 43:20Speaker 1: because i knew that totally I've seen Pearl Harbor.
- 43:31Speaker 2: Okay, we're doing tarot. All right.
- 43:33Speaker 1: I know, like, I'm probably going to leave all this
- 43:35Speaker 1: stuff about the bridge in because it's interesting.
- 43:38Speaker 2: Okay. But now we're doing tarot. Okay. Okay. Okay, I'm
- 43:42Speaker 2: going to pick a card. Do you have any guidance
- 43:45Speaker 2: you need to give me?
- 43:48Speaker 3: I feel like in the neighborhood of, like, right in
- 43:50Speaker 3: front of your glass.
- 43:52Speaker 2: Where my hands are right now. Yeah. That's where I
- 43:54Speaker 2: was feeling too. Okay. I think it's this one. Oh
- 43:58Speaker 2: my gosh. We got the devil. Oh. Which I think
- 44:04Speaker 2: is interesting because it's witches. You know, they think that
- 44:08Speaker 2: they're evil. They're the devil.
- 44:09Speaker 3: Right.
- 44:10Speaker 2: Right. I don't think they are, but some people do.
- 44:13Speaker 3: We don't.
- 44:14Speaker 1: Also in the movies, obviously we haven't seen the second
- 44:17Speaker 1: one yet, but in the first one, she's like possessed
- 44:19Speaker 1: by the ex guy.
- 44:20Speaker 3: Okay. And then also listen to the keywords and tell
- 44:23Speaker 3: me that this doesn't sound like PM1. Keywords are obsession, indulgence, fear, materialism,
- 44:31Speaker 3: and egotism.
- 44:33Speaker 2: Oh God, the obsession though. The obsession. Just stay up
- 44:37Speaker 2: all night worshiping each other.
- 44:41Speaker 3: I think of the devil as the obsession card. Many
- 44:46Speaker 3: decks picture a medieval Christian-type devil, complete with horns, hooves,
- 44:52Speaker 3: a hairy tail, and a pitchfork. The Rider-Waite-Smith deck shows
- 44:58Speaker 3: two small human-like figures at the devil's feet, one male
- 45:02Speaker 3: and one female, with chains around their necks that represent
- 45:06Speaker 3: bondage to the material realm.
- 45:07Speaker 2: Ooh! You know what's interesting?
- 45:11Speaker 1: So we decided to use the modern witch deck and
- 45:13Speaker 1: it's all female figures. So it's two female figures, the sisters.
- 45:19Speaker 2: In front of like the devil, the bad guy.
- 45:22Speaker 3: That is so interesting.
- 45:24Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 45:26Speaker 3: Okay, and I already read about blah, blah, blah. Notice
- 45:29Speaker 3: the chains are loose, though, and the people could easily
- 45:33Speaker 3: slip them off, suggesting this card is about self-imposed limitations.
- 45:38Speaker 2: Well, they brought a dead guy back to life.
- 45:40Speaker 1: I mean, they kind of brought that whole thing down
- 45:42Speaker 1: on that.
- 45:43Speaker 3: I hate to victim blame, but. Okay, so the extra
- 45:47Speaker 3: excerpt before, and we're in the upright, correct?
- 45:50Speaker 2: Yeah, it was in the upright. Cool, okay.
- 45:53Speaker 3: The horned god.
- 45:55Speaker 2: The horny god. The horny god.
- 45:58Speaker 3: The devil appears to be one of the more alarming
- 46:01Speaker 3: cards of the major arcana. However, he does not represent
- 46:07Speaker 3: satanic forces or evil.
- 46:09Speaker 2: Neither do witches.
- 46:10Speaker 3: That's right. That goatish guy is paganism's horned god Pan,
- 46:16Speaker 3: connected to the fertility rites banned by the Christian church. Boo.
- 46:20Speaker 2: Boo.
- 46:22Speaker 4: Boo.
- 46:23Speaker 3: Therefore, his appearance can indicate a sexual component to your
- 46:26Speaker 3: question or concern.
- 46:27Speaker 2: I mean, there was a sexual component to that movie
- 46:30Speaker 2: for sure.
- 46:33Speaker 3: In the thoth thought, whatever we decided it was.
- 46:36Speaker 2: I know, we figured it out and now we can't remember. Yeah.
- 46:40Speaker 3: The devil is clearly phallic. When the devil shows up
- 46:45Speaker 3: in a reading, he recommends re-evaluating your relationship to people
- 46:49Speaker 3: and material things that keep you chained. It's time to
- 46:54Speaker 3: let go of old fears, hangups, inhibitions, and ways you
- 46:58Speaker 3: manipulate others to satisfy your needs. Interesting.
- 47:02Speaker 1: Or like bring people back to life to satisfy your
- 47:05Speaker 1: need to like not have murdered somebody.
- 47:07Speaker 3: There's another extra excerpt and I'm going to actually pee
- 47:11Speaker 3: my pants.
- 47:13Speaker 4: Okay.
- 47:13Speaker 3: In a reading about money, this card can advise you
- 47:16Speaker 3: to confront fears about financial security, social status, and material success.
- 47:22Speaker 3: Are you too attached to money and material things? Are
- 47:25Speaker 3: you taking advantage of others for personal gain? Are you
- 47:30Speaker 3: selling your soul to the devil in order to profit?
- 47:34Speaker 3: If the reading is about your work, the devil may
- 47:37Speaker 3: indicate you're chained to your job and neglecting other areas
- 47:41Speaker 3: of life. Perhaps you're a workaholic or crave the status
- 47:45Speaker 3: your position gives you.
- 47:46Speaker 1: Ooh, that's interesting because in the movie, like Sally... didn't
- 47:50Speaker 1: want to be a witch you just want to be
- 47:52Speaker 1: like normal in the community that's kind of what that
- 47:55Speaker 1: reminds me.
- 47:56Speaker 3: Of okay and then um you know the whole uh
- 48:00Speaker 3: the the murdering and then the bringing of the back
- 48:03Speaker 3: to life yeah um this card warns against engaging in
- 48:07Speaker 3: questionable practices to get ahead okay shut the front door
- 48:14Speaker 3: in a reading about love the devil asks Is an abusive, obsessive,
- 48:19Speaker 3: or harmful relationship adversely affecting your life? Is it?
- 48:24Speaker 2: I'd say.
- 48:24Speaker 4: Is it?
- 48:27Speaker 3: Sexual desire may cause you to overlook character flaws in
- 48:31Speaker 3: a partner.
- 48:31Speaker 2: Uh-huh, that was a huge part of it.
- 48:34Speaker 3: Self-inflicted bondage is preventing you from moving ahead.
- 48:38Speaker 2: Oh my gosh.
- 48:40Speaker 3: Okay, and this.
- 48:42Speaker 2: The Beast. is always the dark face of the handsome prince.
- 48:48Speaker 1: Ooh.
- 48:50Speaker 2: Jimmy Angel.
- 48:52Speaker 1: I'm very excited to see the second one and see
- 48:54Speaker 1: where it goes.
- 48:55Speaker 3: Me too.
- 48:56Speaker 1: And if there's any of the same themes in it
- 48:59Speaker 1: that there was in the first one, I'm not sure. Yeah.
- 49:03Speaker 3: I mean, I feel like without having seen it yet,
- 49:07Speaker 3: all we can do is pick up vibes from the
- 49:10Speaker 3: first one. From the original. I like where we landed.
- 49:13Speaker 1: I loved that we got the devil card. That was
- 49:16Speaker 1: absolutely perfect.
- 49:18Speaker 2: I'm curious what.
- 49:19Speaker 1: the little interpretation book for the modern witch says. Unhealthy
- 49:25Speaker 1: habits and desires can consume and control us. The devil
- 49:29Speaker 1: has tempted and captured us with their false promises of wealth, power,
- 49:33Speaker 1: and pleasure. The upside down pinnacle, symbol of dark magic...
- 49:39Speaker 1: Remember that they had to like paint the pentacle or
- 49:44Speaker 1: the pentagram or whatever on his chest.
- 49:46Speaker 2: They did it in whipped cream.
- 49:47Speaker 1: They used a can of whipped cream and they had
- 49:49Speaker 1: to like do the star on his chest.
- 49:53Speaker 2: Oh my God.
- 49:54Speaker 1: The upside down pinnacle, a symbol of dark magic adorns
- 49:59Speaker 1: their forehead. They raise one hand in the assurance of
- 50:03Speaker 1: knowledge and the other hand holds a torch pointing at
- 50:06Speaker 1: the earth and all physical things. We are blind to
- 50:10Speaker 1: our chains. The devil has skillfully misled us into their
- 50:13Speaker 1: intoxicating realm.
- 50:15Speaker 2: Intoxicating.
- 50:17Speaker 1: That was a huge part of the movie with the
- 50:20Speaker 1: bottle of booze that he drank that like showed up
- 50:22Speaker 1: on the doorstep that got them to do the midnight margaritas.
- 50:27Speaker 2: I'm just saying we're witches. Money, sex, power, status, pleasure. Pleasure.
- 50:34Speaker 2: I didn't like the passages.
- 50:41Speaker 1: You've become obsessed with the superficial and fleeting desires and
- 50:45Speaker 1: it's led you down an unhealthy path. You might feel
