- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the Mark Simone Show on seven to ten
- 0:03Speaker 1: WOI and from today, here's Ken Roseanne and so good
- 0:09Speaker 1: to be with you on a Friday after all that
- 0:11Speaker 1: nasty weather we had yesterday. Fortunately, today's not gonna be
- 0:15Speaker 1: anything like yesterday, mixed clouds and sun and race degic
- 0:19Speaker 1: saying it's going to be probably close to eighty degrees
- 0:22Speaker 1: for most of the area, So enjoy it because we're
- 0:24Speaker 1: gonna get some more cloudy weather, maybe some stormy weather
- 0:27Speaker 1: again over parts of the weekend. So it's not gonna
- 0:30Speaker 1: be the greatest getaway weekend. But you know what that
- 0:33Speaker 1: means when it's a nasty weather weekend, it means it's
- 0:36Speaker 1: perfect time to go to the movies. So you know
- 0:39Speaker 1: who knows more about movies than anybody on earth that
- 0:41Speaker 1: I know, it is Roger Friedman of Showbiz four one one,
- 0:45Speaker 1: and he is on the line. Look at that.
- 0:47Speaker 2: Good morning, Roger, good morning. How are you Ken?
- 0:50Speaker 1: You know, it's amazing. How do you know to call
- 0:52Speaker 1: when I start talking about what to do on the weekend?
- 0:55Speaker 1: And it's just amazing. It's like we are connected somewhere,
- 0:58Speaker 1: feeling that is It's what I said is true, though
- 1:01Speaker 1: there is nobody who knows about movies more than you, sir.
- 1:04Speaker 1: So Spider Man Brand New Day Out of Control already
- 1:08Speaker 1: broken the eight hundred million dollar mark in the US.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Two billion in sanity. So should people still?
- 1:16Speaker 1: Should people still go see it? Even if they saw.
- 1:20Speaker 3: Oh, I think they've seen it three or four times.
- 1:22Speaker 3: I get to this point. Yeah, But it's a lot
- 1:25Speaker 3: of fun. It's very well made.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Uh you know this.
- 1:29Speaker 3: The action sequences are terrific, and it answers the questions
- 1:32Speaker 3: from the last movie when Peter Parker's friends no longer
- 1:36Speaker 3: remembered him and Sony remembered him, and that's the main thing.
- 1:41Speaker 3: And you know, it's just huge. And I think there'll
- 1:45Speaker 3: be one more of these with Tom Holland and Sendeia
- 1:49Speaker 3: and then they'll they'll bring it to an end. But
- 1:53Speaker 3: it's it's incredible that I think there have been nine
- 1:56Speaker 3: Spider Man movies now, which is you know, the beginning
- 2:00Speaker 3: over twenty years.
- 2:01Speaker 2: And who would have thought? Who would have thought it?
- 2:03Speaker 3: When I was buying Spider Man comics for twelve cents,
- 2:08Speaker 3: you know every month. I never would have said to myself,
- 2:10Speaker 3: one day this will be you know, a gazillion dollar industry.
- 2:14Speaker 3: But it really, it really has turned out to be
- 2:17Speaker 3: a fantastic success.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Would let me ask you this, if somebody hasn't seen
- 2:21Speaker 1: any of the recent films, can they see this as
- 2:24Speaker 1: a standalone Yeah.
- 2:27Speaker 3: Yeah, you could see this as a standalone movie because
- 2:30Speaker 3: they tell you right at the beginning sort of what
- 2:32Speaker 3: happened in the last one. I mean, it would be
- 2:35Speaker 3: good to see the last one because it was fun
- 2:38Speaker 3: and you could see, you know, the last three if
- 2:40Speaker 3: you wanted to. But this one you could just go
- 2:43Speaker 3: into and you can get it. I mean, it's Spider Man.
- 2:45Speaker 3: It's not Macbeth. You know you can by by now,
- 2:51Speaker 3: Spider Man has become our Macbeth. I mean in a
- 2:54Speaker 3: strange way, it's become like our Shakespeare because it's just
- 2:58Speaker 3: it's like endless. But these all these franchises, like the
- 3:01Speaker 3: Marvel franchise, the DC conducts, Star Wars of the Star Trek,
- 3:07Speaker 3: these have become sort of the literature of this generation.
- 3:13Speaker 3: Very weird, but it's taken off.
- 3:15Speaker 2: You know.
- 3:16Speaker 3: My movie literature, by the way, is Woody Allen, and
- 3:21Speaker 3: I just announced this morning that he's going to shoot
- 3:23Speaker 3: his fifty first movie this fall in Spain. Wow, he's
- 3:27Speaker 3: going to be ninety one at the end of November.
- 3:31Speaker 3: I just was I just I was just told that
- 3:34Speaker 3: he's shooting his fifty first movie in Madrid and don't
- 3:38Speaker 3: know who the cast is yet. He's also apparently been
- 3:43Speaker 3: finishing up a new novel, a second novel, and a
- 3:45Speaker 3: play for the stage. So that's incredible to me. He's
- 3:50Speaker 3: our Shakespeare. But maybe he'll put Spider Man in the movie.
- 3:54Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Yeah, right that wait a shecond Woody Allen, you're saying
- 3:58Speaker 1: that he is more of a favor when it comes
- 4:00Speaker 1: to movies than Madonna is.
- 4:02Speaker 3: To you, Madonna, this is the funniest thing, isn't it.
- 4:07Speaker 3: The Criterion Channel, which is, like, you know, it's supposed
- 4:11Speaker 3: to be an intellectual channel for great film buffs. They're
- 4:14Speaker 3: going to do a retrospective of three Madonna movies this.
- 4:18Speaker 2: Fall this fall, And.
- 4:23Speaker 3: She's the worst actress ever in films, And the only
- 4:27Speaker 3: movie that she made really that was of any interest
- 4:29Speaker 3: was Desperately Seeking Susan, which was, you know, forty years ago,
- 4:33Speaker 3: and that was because of Rosanna Arquette and because of
- 4:36Speaker 3: the director, Susan Seidelman, who was so great. But outside
- 4:41Speaker 3: of that Madonna is that. You know, she's a great
- 4:43Speaker 3: personality and a great performer, but she's a terrible actress. Nevertheless,
- 4:48Speaker 3: two of her besides Desperately Seeking Susan, two of her
- 4:53Speaker 3: worst movies are going to be part of the Criterion
- 4:57Speaker 3: Channel next month.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Don't get it, but it should be. It should be amusing, it.
- 5:03Speaker 1: Should be indeed, all right. Zevaded Wy the voice of
- 5:06Speaker 1: New York hen Risotto in from Mark on a Friday,
- 5:08Speaker 1: speaking with the great Roger Friedman of Showbiz for one
- 5:11Speaker 1: One can check it out at showbizfore one one dot com.
- 5:14Speaker 1: Before I let you go, we got to talk about
- 5:16Speaker 1: two things. Of course. The Odyssey is at the half
- 5:19Speaker 1: billion dollar mark, still a great film and doing well.
- 5:22Speaker 1: And Anne Hathaway, if I need to buy a lottery ticket,
- 5:25Speaker 1: I'm asking Anne Hathaway because she knows how to pick them.
- 5:28Speaker 1: Three superstar Powerhouse scripts.
- 5:32Speaker 3: She's got a horror movie called The End of Oak
- 5:35Speaker 3: Street that people seem to like.
- 5:37Speaker 2: I haven't seen it.
- 5:39Speaker 3: And then she had The Devil Wares Prota two earlier
- 5:42Speaker 3: in this in the spring. And she's the star of
- 5:45Speaker 3: the Odyssey. She's going to get an Oscar nomination. The
- 5:48Speaker 3: Odyssey is going to get like fifteen Oscar nominations. I
- 5:51Speaker 3: can't imagine any other film coming out between now and
- 5:54Speaker 3: the end of the year that will match it in
- 5:56Speaker 3: any way. So we know the Odyssey is going to
- 5:58Speaker 3: be crowned next March with all kinds of awards. And
- 6:02Speaker 3: I wanted to tell you about one other little film
- 6:04Speaker 3: that's playing in New York if you can find it.
- 6:07Speaker 3: It's called Late Fame and it stars Willem Dafoe. And
- 6:11Speaker 3: I love this film and I'd like people to see
- 6:13Speaker 3: it if they can. And it's a real independent film,
- 6:16Speaker 3: but it's beautifully done and I think if you're a
- 6:18Speaker 3: real film person, you'd enjoy it.
- 6:21Speaker 1: I love it, and I'm tired of people calling him
- 6:23Speaker 1: William Dafaue. By the way, if I hear it one
- 6:25Speaker 1: more time, I'm gonna bite my cheekins. And he's born here.
- 6:31Speaker 3: I've never heard anyone call him billy.
- 6:35Speaker 1: I've had so many a conversation. I only know this
- 6:38Speaker 1: stuff only because I went to NYU Film School, right
- 6:40Speaker 1: to TSH School, and I remember having this intellectual conversation
- 6:44Speaker 1: with somebody and they said, well, you know when he
- 6:45Speaker 1: was born in Germany, I said, is an American. What
- 6:47Speaker 1: do you mean born in Germany, Lam the Foe was
- 6:49Speaker 1: born here. He's like as American as us, totally, one
- 6:52Speaker 1: hundred percent. Just one last thing before I let you go,
- 6:55Speaker 1: Roger Chris Rock, whom I love. I love Chris Rock, brilliant.
- 7:01Speaker 1: His cousin, April Rock could be coming SNL.
- 7:05Speaker 2: She might be.
- 7:06Speaker 3: They're making the decisions right now about the You know,
- 7:10Speaker 3: some people have left SNL. It's always happens, and they'll
- 7:14Speaker 3: be adding a couple of new young people. And they've
- 7:16Speaker 3: been looking for a young black female comic. They haven't
- 7:20Speaker 3: really had one since Ego Neodam who I loved.
- 7:25Speaker 2: She left a couple of last year in twenty twenty five.
- 7:28Speaker 3: And so yeah, this April Rock, who's I have her
- 7:31Speaker 3: videos up on the site on.
- 7:32Speaker 2: Showbiz four on one.
- 7:34Speaker 3: She's terrific and she's I think she's Chris's first or
- 7:37Speaker 3: second cousin.
- 7:38Speaker 2: And she's not an EPO baby.
- 7:40Speaker 3: She's funny on her own, very talented, and she may
- 7:44Speaker 3: be who knows, she may be one of the next
- 7:46Speaker 3: people to join the SNL cast.
- 7:48Speaker 1: She has one tenth the talent of Chris Rock. Then
- 7:51Speaker 1: we're in for something very special because Chris Rock is
- 7:53Speaker 1: just a brilliant, brilliant person and.
- 7:55Speaker 3: He has By the way, Chris Rock has a great
- 7:57Speaker 3: movie coming out this fall.
- 8:00Speaker 2: Uh.
- 8:00Speaker 3: I care the name of it, but you'll be seeing
- 8:02Speaker 3: the press about it soon and it's going to play
- 8:05Speaker 3: at the New York Film Festival.
- 8:06Speaker 2: So we'll watch it there.
- 8:07Speaker 1: Yeah, let's look it up. As we talked to you,
- 8:09Speaker 1: Chris Rock movie. I'm typing it in right now. Let's
- 8:11Speaker 1: find it. We got you can't tease us like that, Okay,
- 8:15Speaker 1: let's see come on, come on, come on, let's get
- 8:18Speaker 1: with the internet here, let's see movie movie all right,
- 8:23Speaker 1: grown ups? We were any other and Beverly Hills cops.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Old doesn't have the new stuff, it doesn't have anything here.
- 8:29Speaker 2: I'm sure he directed it. Oh that's why he directed it.
- 8:32Speaker 1: Oh wait is head of State? No, that's that's that's
- 8:37Speaker 1: that's old. We'll figure it out if if you find

- 8:45Speaker 1: There we go, Misty Green. Chris Rock directly.
- 8:47Speaker 2: Called Misty Green.
- 8:48Speaker 3: And I hear it's terrific and I'm really looking forward
- 8:52Speaker 3: to it.
- 8:52Speaker 1: You know, when I was at Channel seven, Chris used
- 8:54Speaker 1: to have an apartment on the Upper West Uh when
- 8:57Speaker 1: he I guess during the week, if he was doing
- 8:59Speaker 1: anything in Manhattan, he would stay at his apartment and
- 9:02Speaker 1: then he lived over and I think Alpine at the
- 9:04Speaker 1: time when he was married. But he would pop by
- 9:07Speaker 1: the studios and he would wave into the window. He
- 9:09Speaker 1: and Laurie Stokes, my co anchor at the time, they
- 9:12Speaker 1: were friends. He would wave in and I'd say, that's
- 9:14Speaker 1: Chris Rock, and you know, we'd be on the air
- 9:16Speaker 1: talk about getting distracted while you're doing the news. It
- 9:19Speaker 1: was pretty cool, but very nice man the few times
- 9:21Speaker 1: I got to read him again. The website is showbiz
