- 0:00Speaker 1: Well, good afternoon, listeners. Thank you so much for listening
- 0:03Speaker 1: to Lament of Hope podcast. As you guys know, we
- 0:07Speaker 1: are nearing our 300th episode, which is amazing. And so
- 0:12Speaker 1: many people from around the world with different struggles and stories.
- 0:16Speaker 1: And it's all because of you guys and your support.
- 0:18Speaker 1: So I'm super grateful. I feel like I have to
- 0:21Speaker 1: say that every time I start because I just it
- 0:23Speaker 1: always blows me away when I think about it.
- 0:25Speaker 2: I feel a little better today. I could breathe a
- 0:27Speaker 2: little bit more today. Today when I stand, my leg
- 0:31Speaker 2: isn't shaking. I can move a little more. Things change
- 0:36Speaker 2: all the time because a disease is a life of
- 0:39Speaker 2: its own. It's not this set in stone thing and
- 0:43Speaker 2: this is what it is and this is what's going
- 0:45Speaker 2: to happen and here we go. It is a life.
- 0:47Speaker 2: It grows. It changes. It moves. There is no way
- 0:53Speaker 2: to determine exactly what's going to happen. It is an
- 0:56Speaker 2: educated guess based on the information that the doctor has
- 1:01Speaker 2: at the time, things that they've seen, their experience. And, um,
- 1:08Speaker 2: it's just not close to a full picture. And so
- 1:11Speaker 2: many people hear that and they just kind of cling
- 1:14Speaker 2: to that. And okay, if this is the end, then
- 1:18Speaker 2: I want to live up to this much. And then
- 1:20Speaker 2: I just, I don't really want to see what happens
- 1:22Speaker 2: right there. And if that's going to be it, then,
- 1:24Speaker 2: you know, if I'm going to die that day anyway,
- 1:27Speaker 2: then might as well stop at this right now and
- 1:31Speaker 2: do it this way and And it's just, we, we
- 1:34Speaker 2: give ourselves all these little loopholes and it's such a
- 1:37Speaker 2: slippery slope. As soon as something is okay, then this
- 1:40Speaker 2: is okay. And then that's okay. And that's okay. And
- 1:43Speaker 2: all of a sudden it's just like, life is hard.
- 1:47Speaker 2: Let's just do away with it. You know, life isn't
- 1:52Speaker 2: meant to be easy. Good isn't good without the bad.
- 1:56Speaker 2: You know, we don't, The difficult days is what gives
- 2:02Speaker 2: us that thrill and that joy and the, oh my gosh,
- 2:06Speaker 2: what a beautiful moment I got to have. This was special.
- 2:11Speaker 2: This is something that was worth waking up today for. Yeah.
- 2:18Speaker 2: And there's a balance that's there. And like I said,
- 2:26Speaker 2: I don't want to just count anybody's stories. People struggle.
- 2:32Speaker 2: Being sick is terrifying. Even if you don't have a
- 2:34Speaker 2: terminal illness, you wake up with the flu one day,
- 2:37Speaker 2: that is terrifying. You feel like you're dying. It's something
- 2:40Speaker 2: that is not normal in your body happening. It is startling.
- 2:45Speaker 2: It is scary. If somebody hasn't told you you're going
- 2:51Speaker 2: to die in your head, you're just like, This is
- 2:54Speaker 2: going to pass. I'm going to get better. The medicine's
- 2:57Speaker 2: going to work. It's going to happen. I just need
- 2:59Speaker 2: to get there. And you start feeling better. But we
- 3:05Speaker 2: just start putting different terms on things. And it changes
- 3:12Speaker 2: our perspective. And in this case, it changes our perspective
- 3:17Speaker 2: in really sad and dangerous ways.
- 3:21Speaker 1: You know, can I ask, and maybe this is a
- 3:23Speaker 1: little off topic, I don't know, but I have spoken
- 3:27Speaker 1: with individuals who have said they won't have kids because
- 3:32Speaker 1: of an illness they have, like an autoimmune disorder. Not terminal,
- 3:37Speaker 1: but also I know you found out a little later too,
- 3:40Speaker 1: so it's not necessarily like you knew this before you
- 3:43Speaker 1: had kids, but I've talked to many people who are like,
- 3:50Speaker 1: I just don't want my kids to get that gene.
- 3:54Speaker 1: Or I have talked to individuals, and I'm one of them,
- 3:59Speaker 1: who struggle with, I came from a home where mental
- 4:02Speaker 1: illness was just rife, untreated mental illness. And then I
- 4:07Speaker 1: have mental illness struggles. And I'm like, I just never
- 4:12Speaker 1: want my kids to see that. I don't want my
- 4:15Speaker 1: kids to be afraid. I don't want my kids to
- 4:20Speaker 1: ever think that mommy is
