- 1:09Seahawks 64 before. Overtime win against the Raiders
- 1:1343 which does not tell the whole story.
- 1:16Phantoms actually trailed 3-nil at one point before clawing it
- 1:20back to 33 Ralph sierens was the hero as he scored in overtime
- 1:24and completed his hat-trick in the same goal.
- 1:28Phantoms remain third level on points with second-placed MK
- 1:32lightning and a point behind leaders leads who have three
- 1:35games in hand on their nearest Rivals.

- 1:52who have just mentioned as co-founder of Youth dreams
- 1:55project has actually joined the turbines this week, as joint
- 1:58manager and links up with his good friend, Michael gash until
- 2:02the end of the season. We wish them both well in their
- 2:05game tomorrow, as they travel to the northeast of place.
- 2:07Blyth Spartans Sports last week that defied the odds.
- 2:12And remain and the odds of remain undiminished despite the
- 2:15change in management practically Town pitched up at the be Arena
- 2:19on the back of a 17 game unbeaten run which had stood
- 2:22them to forth in the National League table.
- 2:24But football often moves on so quickly and sports, certainly
- 2:28have as Michael gasps celebrated a first League win as manager.
- 2:32While Jordan Crawford, the man signed to replace Deion's MB
- 2:35Ferris who actually joined scunthorpe with Jimmy Dean
- 2:38scored a classy match clinching. Goal in a thoroughly.
- 2:41Deserved to nil win supports remained 14th in the table but
- 2:45are now 12 points. Clear of the Drop Zone.
- 2:48And if they Dare To Dream, it's just a four-point gap.
- 2:50To the final playoff place. As I said tomorrow afternoon,
- 2:54Sports make the long trip to the Northeast face, relegation,
- 2:57threatened Blyth Spartans, our city of Peterborough.

- 3:27travel, to top of the table Ipswich failed to score, and
- 3:30also conceded six, the ladies first slot for one at home to
- 3:34harvest it magpies. The men's seventh were the only
- 3:38successful men side this weekend, beaten Cambridge, South
- 3:41Sea, Sixth three-nil, the men's fourths travel to Long Sutton
- 3:45and lost 5-1 with an inexperienced lineup for this
- 3:48level. The ladies s went to Ipswich and
- 3:52came out on the wrong side of a three to reverse.
- 3:56The great form of the ladies forth and ladies fifth continues
- 3:59though in more positive news. The ladies Force 15 2008,
- 4:03Sydney, it's against their fourth 11.

- 4:37of Peterborough. The advantage, however,
- 4:39Pelicans, found an equalizer, taking it to flex,
- 4:42unfortunately, Pelicans, keep it saved, one to give them the win,
- 4:47over all the under 14. Read on there and under 14

- 7:51On pc r FM for the start of your sporting weekend.
- 7:54I'm Nilesh and my guest this week is Luke Kennedy co-founder
- 7:59of Youth dreams project a group that was formed an organization.
- 8:04Sorry that was formed nine years ago.
- 8:05This coming Monday, Luke, welcome to the show.
- 8:09Relax, so good to have you with us.
- 8:13Just give us a little bit of insight into youth dreams
- 8:15project straight away. Then please good evening.
- 8:18First of all thank you for having me.
- 8:20Yeah, so youth dreams project known as ydp to most people was
- 8:26formed back in 2014 by myself. And Luke still close friend of
- 8:31mine with the main aim of providing as many sporting
- 8:36opportunities for as many young people in the city.
- 8:39T, as possible. Okay, brilliant stuff.
- 8:43And where did that sort of idea? Come from, you know, what gave
- 8:46you that inspiration and drive to produce something that you
- 8:50have done over the last nine years?
- 8:52Yeah, good question. Both myself and Luke were
- 8:55Obviously good friends. Part of the people United
- 8:57Academy from the age of seven or eight and Luke's career.
- 9:02You know, took off when he was signed by Manchester United and
- 9:07I only had a one-year professional deal with Rushton
- 9:09diamonds and And didn't get it renewed, and obviously slipped
- 9:14into the world of full-time work.
- 9:16And I bounced around different jobs before, joining, the police
- 9:21where I was a pcso for six years and I used to cover the
- 9:24Eastfield in East Gate area, which is quite a deprived area
- 9:28of the city. And during that time, I used to
- 9:31run Youth Intervention programs where a lot of the young people
- 9:37in that area would come there. Take part in football that take
- 9:40part in boxes, Eyes. And I started to see a real
- 9:44positive change within the young people, and the police done
- 9:48stats and the anti-social behaviour within the area drop
- 9:51significantly. And I found a real passion for
- 9:54working with young people at that point.
- 9:56And you know, that's when I started having the conversations
- 9:59with Luke about the idea of ydp and yeah, I decided to leave the
- 10:04police take that big jump risk and yeah, it started from there.
- 10:10Okay. And youth dreams project, the
- 10:13name itself was that inspired by anything specific.
- 10:17You have some inspiration or was it something that you'd come
- 10:20across over the years? A funny story me and Luke was
- 10:22sat in the cost of coffee shop in Hampton.
- 10:26Other retailers are available. We were sat there and we had a
- 10:32notebook and pen and and we wrote probably two free hundred
- 10:37different names and within those names.
- 10:41You streams project was on that sheet of paper but at different
- 10:46stages so it wasn't formed and we were looking at all the
- 10:50different names and we actually put it together at that point.
- 10:53Because obviously we're working with you, we want all young
- 10:57people to dream that they can achieve in life and it's a
- 11:01project that for us is just going to continue and continue.
- 11:05So yeah, that's how we created that name.
- 11:08Okay. So over a over a hot chocolate
- 11:10or a cappuccino. Youth dreams project was formed
- 11:14and to look at your slogan on your, on your hoodie that you're
- 11:16wearing there as well. You believe in youth as well.
- 11:18And that's what, that's the generation that you want to
- 11:20inspire and so they can aspire to better things.
- 11:24Yeah, of course, I think because there's every young person out
- 11:29there has a talent, but they don't all believe that.
- 11:34And we've created a team of coaches, that will instill that
- 11:39belief within the young people. So if they don't believe it
- 11:43themselves, initially, we're going to deliver Sports and
- 11:46interact with the young people in a way that they will believe
- 11:50in themselves. So we're telling them.
- 11:52Look, we believe in you. Now, you go and believe in
- 11:54yourself is well and you're giving them that inspiration I
- 11:58guess and the opportunity as well.
- 11:59And you do that through Sports. Yeah.
- 12:01And when we say sport what sports do you cover at the
- 12:05moment? I know you probably perhaps
- 12:06better known for the football side of it but it's whole array
- 12:09of sports. So yeah, when we fall And in
- 12:112014, it was me and a bag of footballs deliver delivering
- 12:17just football. And yeah, we started going into
- 12:21the first school was actually a bishop cry and Academy in in the
- 12:24city centre and after probably about six weeks, the PE leader.
- 12:31At the time said to me, I can you start delivering netball?
- 12:36Yeah, I kind of thought to myself.
- 12:39I've never delivered that before.
- 12:40I don't think I Even play them but I said to him.
- 12:44Yeah, of course. Will deliver that.
- 12:47And then yeah we delivered it. Well obviously built up that
- 12:51link with the school and more and more schools started
- 12:56approaching us and asking us if we could deliver different
- 12:59sport. So that's when obviously we had
- 13:01to start recruiting coaches. So now, yeah, we go into 36
- 13:06schools in total actually and we deliver all sports, we've got
- 13:11coach Has that can deliver football basketball, dance,
- 13:14gymnastics tag rugby, boxercise archery, to literally any sport
- 13:21that you can think of. We're now, delivering in the
- 13:23schools. Wow, so that really does give
- 13:26children an opportunity to try Sports.
- 13:28They perhaps would have even considered before as well like,
- 13:30archery, perhaps some like that which may not be as accessible
- 13:32to them. Definitely.
- 13:34I mean you know, like archery boxercise there to that stick
- 13:39out immediately that yeah. Most of the kids hadn't tried
- 13:43it. So to be able to give them that
- 13:44opportunity is fantastic. Brilliant.
- 13:49Well yeah, I mean I'm inspired myself as well.
- 13:52He's still listening to you there as well.
- 13:54So is there, an age range? So is it Primary School upwards?
- 13:57You focus on? Yeah, we actually deliver a
- 14:00session called why D P Diddy's. It was.
- 14:03What it was one of our first ever sessions that we launched
- 14:05and we run it on a Sunday morning and it's based mainly
- 14:09around football. But They're learning key,
- 14:12fundamental skills, like, agility, balance coordination,
- 14:17and that session is for two to five year olds, so have.
- 14:20Yeah, we do have two year olds and we've actually had people
- 14:24younger than that where their parents have said, you know, my
- 14:27child's 18 months at came. They still come?
- 14:30So yeah, we still take them that is the youngest session that we
- 14:34do and now we've got sessions that run from the age of 2 all
- 14:40the way to 18 years and we recently created a ydp men's
- 14:46football team. So we've now got, you know, a
- 14:49complete pathway for young people to be working with us and
- 14:56paths for them to Aspire to, to stay within ydb.
- 15:00Yeah. And I guess the men's team can
- 15:02be Role Models as well while they're representing ydp in that
- 15:05way. Yeah, exactly.
- 15:06That's what we want. You know, we want people to look
- 15:10at the ydp. A men's team and see that as a
- 15:14path for them. And, yeah, within that team,
- 15:17we've got coaches, we've got some of our boys that are on our
- 15:22post-16 scholarship program. We've got parents of children,
- 15:25that attend, ydp, and then, we've got other people that
- 15:29don't really have that connection with ydp.
- 15:31So it's a good mix. But, yeah, ultimately, we want
- 15:34them to, you know, give a positive impression to the young
- 15:39people that are coming to yd. A brilliant stuff, you talked
- 15:44about the football in the men's side there as well, but you're
- 15:46doing a lot of good work with the the girls element of it and
- 15:50hopefully harnessing the Positive Vibes of last year's
- 15:53win from the lionesses. Yeah.
- 15:55Definitely, you know, we've seen the growth of in women's
- 15:58football and sport in general. And we have a post-16
- 16:03scholarship program, which is for boys.
- 16:06And we launched that about five years ago, now in partnership
- 16:11with such John Fisher school and it's really taken off.
- 16:14You know that those boys get a chance to study at the school
- 16:18get education and be part of a football team where they train
- 16:22every day and they compete in the National College league with
- 16:24us and we saw the success of that and obviously on the back
- 16:28of light, you say the Lioness and we wanted to create a girl's
- 16:31one. So back in September this, this
- 16:34school year we created a girls post-16 scholarship program
- 16:40which has started Tactically. We are recruiting girls for this
- 16:44coming September and then we also recently launched a girls
- 16:48football session for for younger girls, from the age of 6 to 14.
- 16:53And that's every Friday nights that's actually happening.
- 16:55Now, as I say, it's okay and there'll be a number of girls
- 16:59there as well who have been inspired.
- 17:00But also having the opportunity to to have a go at football on a
- 17:04Friday evening in a lovely environment coached by, you
- 17:09know, somebody's got all the qualifications.
- 17:11And it's able to impart their knowledge on them as well in
- 17:14that way. Yeah definitely.
- 17:15I mean we we've got a real mix there in ages and ability.
- 17:20You know we've got some girls that have never kicked a ball
- 17:22before and then some girls that are signed at teams that just
- 17:26want an extra session. So it is brilliant for us to put
- 17:29on that session and see such a range of Ages and abilities
- 17:33come. And also, we, you know, we have
- 17:36female coaches that deliver that session.
- 17:38So it's nice to the girls to have that female.
- 17:41If role model as well? Yeah, brilliant stuff that's
- 17:44really taken off then in the last few months as well.
- 17:47That that aspect. Yeah I mean we've got on average
- 17:5020 plus girls attend in each week.
- 17:53So the next step for us now is to create maybe a team within
- 17:58that group and to start organizing matches for them.
- 18:02Like we do for the boys teams that we've got.
- 18:05And in terms of the boys set up as well, is that sort of and
- 18:08primary age upwards effectively and then you're looking to
- 18:12mirror that with the girls. Yeah, I mean, like, I say, going
- 18:16back to that Diddy's session, what we found was, is, kids
- 18:20would stay with us all the way up till they were five, boys and
- 18:23girls. Do attend that, by the way.
- 18:26And then once said, hit five, they were asking us, you know,
- 18:29where do we go next? So, it kind of pushed us into
- 18:33create, in a football team. So now where we're at, we've got
- 18:39an under 16 all the way up to Under 12.
- 18:42So we've got six, seven, eight, nine, ten.
- 18:44Eleven twelve a train with us on a Friday night.
- 18:46So they're also training now and then they compete in the junior
- 18:51Alliance league on a Saturday and a Sunday, but in addition to
- 18:55that through the links that we've got with professional
- 18:58clubs this week the teams have played against Peterborough
- 19:01United and Leicester city. Wow you know that's the
- 19:06opportunity to do that if you're surviving them there and that's
- 19:09what we want to do. You know, we want to Give them
- 19:12the opportunities that they might not be able to get
- 19:14elsewhere and you know the results obviously didn't go the
- 19:19way they probably expect like wanted as such against those
- 19:24clubs, but that's not what it's about for us.
- 19:26It's about the enjoyment and actually seeing wow, these are
- 19:30the boys were playing against their the so-called best players
- 19:33in the city. And and I've just played against
- 19:35a map at the home of Peterborough United.
- 19:38Yeah, and it's the aspiration again.
- 19:39Isn't it as well? The opportunities.
- 19:41Yd p is given those young children to think.
- 19:45Yeah, I want to try and push myself here as well.
- 19:47And even, you know, we know, professional football is the
- 19:51percentage, you know that go from under 18's, you know, to
- 19:54actually making it is a smaller percentage.
- 19:56So, you know, just for them to Aspire to that is just something
- 19:58that is a positive for them as well, and helps in other walks
- 20:02of life. No doubt as well, 100%.
- 20:04I mean, you know, by going to play the likes of Pasha and
- 20:08Lester. They're not only seeing the
- 20:10ability of those boys, but they're also seeing the
- 20:14standards, you know, the professionalism, the appearance,
- 20:17how they, look how they conduct themselves Their Manners.
- 20:20And that's what we're trying to do in all the sessions that
- 20:23we're delivering is improve them in every aspects of when they
- 20:26are older and they are looking for jobs, you know, they're in a
- 20:30much better position to go on and succeed in life and sport is
- 20:34just the, the vehicle to do that.
- 20:36And that's what you're using sport in that way, to break down
- 20:38those barriers, perhaps between communities and And people's
- 20:43hesitation perhaps to get involved in certain sports that
- 20:45you're giving them that opportunity.
- 20:47Definitely, you know, our sessions are open to all young
- 20:52people, regardless, of age ability, you know, ethnicity.
- 20:57We encourage all young people to come to our sessions and only
- 21:02this week. We hosted a primary school
- 21:04Festival where we had 11 schools, attend, and one of the
- 21:08schools that attended was a special Needs school and the
- 21:13other 10 were mainstream schools but you know, it's just
- 21:16fantastic for them to still be able to come and still compete
- 21:20still mix in with each other. And yeah, that's what we want to
- 21:24do. Brilliant step.
- 21:26Right. Which is going to take another
- 21:27short break here, I will be back with Luke and myself, just after

- 23:21Good evening, welcome back to PCR Sports here on PC rfm.
- 23:25We're here every Friday 6:54 bring in the latest local
- 23:29sporting headlines from in and around our city.
- 23:32And this week's guest on the show is Luke.
- 23:35Kennedy co-founder of Youth dreams project which was founded
- 23:39alongside Luke Steele and they're actually celebrating
- 23:42their ninth anniversary this coming Monday.
- 23:44So an opportune time to get them onto the show and let our
- 23:48listeners and The Wider members of the public know, all the
- 23:51great work that At youth dreams project are doing not just in
- 23:53the city, but further afield as well.
- 23:56Just before the break, we were just talking to Luke there about
- 23:59a primary schools. Tournament that was held, Luke
- 24:02just want to pick up on that and there's special school that
- 24:05really did enjoy that occasion. Yeah.
- 24:08So we hosted a primary school festival at stanground.
- 24:11Academy where we delivered three different sports boxercise.
- 24:16Sorry box size, Taj, ball, basketball, and handball and
- 24:21They had a cycling challenge as well.
- 24:24So yeah, it's just a great way for the children to compete
- 24:27against each other, but also in a fun environment and yeah, one
- 24:32of the schools that attended was a special needs school and, you
- 24:36know, it's just great for them to still be able to attend and
- 24:40still enjoy themselves. Yeah, I'm just reading the
- 24:42testimonial. They've sent you actually.
- 24:44And you know one line stands out perfectly for make they all
- 24:49return to feeling like winners. I mean that must make You and
- 24:53what ydp do? Sort of sense of achievement if
- 24:56that makes sense and you feel like you you're achieving
- 24:59something 100%. You know it was a really good
- 25:04day. It was probably my favorite
- 25:06Festival that we've held since because, yeah, they got to
- 25:11compete in three different sports and then after that, they
- 25:15also got to use the swimming pool at stand ground.
- 25:19So at the end, when they finish the tournament, you know, As
- 25:21winners and obviously people that didn't win not going to
- 25:25court in losers. So that of people, been people
- 25:28that were upset, maybe for not winning, but then they finished
- 25:32in the swimming pool and like it just kind of it dawned on me
- 25:39that they had competed in a tournament and they're finishing
- 25:41with swimming and that for of maybe losing and not winning.
- 25:46The event, would have just completely vanished right away
- 25:49because they would just enjoying themselves splashing around In
- 25:51the pole. And some may not file access to
- 25:53a pool previously was regulars who like to exactly.
- 25:56And that's what we want to do. Of course, you know, everybody
- 25:59does want to win with in sport, you know, I was exactly the same
- 26:03but ultimately we want their experiences with ydp to be fun
- 26:08and we want them to go away and think you know I really enjoyed
- 26:11myself and every memory they have within ydp is a good one.
- 26:16Brilliant. So we've talked a lot about
- 26:18schools and the relationships, you've got with them.
- 26:21Schools that you work with currently, are you branching out
- 26:26into other communities as well and other clubs that you can
- 26:28sort of work with and develop what you're doing?
- 26:32Yeah, so we like like you just said we are working with 36
- 26:35schools, Primary School, senior schools, pupil referral units,
- 26:41special needs schools where we deliver their PE curriculum.
- 26:46We deliver lunch clubs after school clubs, we've got a
- 26:49motivation or boxercise program. We've got a newly-formed mind
- 26:54matters program which is all classroom-based speaking about
- 26:58relevant topics that are current to the children at the moment.
- 27:05And then outside of school hours, we do deliver sessions in
- 27:08the community as well, which is funded by the Cross Keys.
- 27:12Homes that police and the local Council where we put on
- 27:15sessions, but the kids can attend those for free.
- 27:20So yeah, we're doing a In schools and out in the
- 27:22community. And we are now, branching
- 27:25fervor, a field because we've recently launched in Cambridge
- 27:30Lester and Oxford as well. So exciting times ahead you
- 27:36looking to do similar work. Effectively in those other
- 27:38cities that you just mentioned and develop the opportunities
- 27:42for children in perhaps deprived areas.
- 27:44Yeah, I mean, we've always known that the model that we've got is
- 27:51Successful. And I've always believed that it
- 27:54would work anywhere within the country under, obviously the
- 27:58right people. And, you know, the reality is,
- 28:01is that, you know, myself or Luke.
- 28:03We're not going to get up and move to all these different
- 28:06cities to launch. So, you know, we've got the
- 28:09right people that run in Cambridge Leicester and Oxford
- 28:14and they will just simply replicate everything that we're
- 28:18doing here in Peterborough in those areas.
- 28:21I'll support. And yeah, you know, the goal is
- 28:25to Branch out into other areas and hopefully one day ydp will
- 28:30be, you know, in every major city in the UK, you must look
- 28:34back. If you mention there, there's
- 28:36just you initially carrying a bag of footballs six.
- 28:39You know, a few weeks later year us to put a nipple sessions.
- 28:42You must feel proud of what you've achieved and being able
- 28:46to see the the smiles on children's faces that you see
- 28:49that, that come from each session, I'm incredibly proud.
- 28:53I mean we've got an amazing set of coaches.
- 28:56We've had some unbelievable coaches previously as well and
- 29:04you know, all of us. Our main goal is to provide good
- 29:08opportunities and fun memories for the young people and the
- 29:13times gone so quick. So I haven't really any point
- 29:17had a chance to kind of stop and reflect.
- 29:20And you know, Have deep for of how far we've come.
- 29:24You know, I'm really proud of what we've done and you know
- 29:28there's still a lot of work to be done but like say you know
- 29:31we've got an incredible set of coaches that deserve a lot of
- 29:35credit brilliant because they're only as good as that.
- 29:37But indeed. Yeah.
- 29:39And that's that's fabulous to here and it's not just sport.
- 29:42I mean, I've looked through your website, social media putting on
- 29:45Frozen parties now as well. So just branching out a little
- 29:48bit to give our children the opportunity as well.
- 29:50Yeah, we're all. Is looking to evolve.
- 29:52I mean, you know, we do like, like we spoke about delivered, a
- 29:56lot of sports but there's still, you know, a lot of young people
- 30:00that maybe not aren't able to access ydp, but maybe don't want
- 30:05to, you know, the projects that we're currently running, maybe
- 30:09don't aren't of interest to them.
- 30:13So, you know, we'd actually seen a princess parties company doing
- 30:19different bits of work. Actually, one of the Delivered,
- 30:22a party for my daughter, half. Wonderful.
- 30:24And it was there, or for, you know what?
- 30:26We could actually open up another door here and even more
- 30:31young, people could access our project.
- 30:33So, yeah, next week in partnership with the dialing,
- 30:37princess parties will be launching.
- 30:40A one day camp for young people, so that will come.
- 30:43And it's a frozen frozen party, Elsa and Anna and Brilliance the
- 30:48that's during halftime. Then obviously, yeah, halftime
- 30:51It's next Tuesday at such on Fisher school, okay?
- 30:54And if people want to find more about that, they just go onto
- 30:57the website and social media Pages.
- 30:59Yeah. All of the information is on our
- 31:01home page, on our website, there's a link on the homepage
- 31:05and that will give them information to all the camps
- 31:08that we're running next week because we're running them at
- 31:11four different schools, across the city, such on Fisher,
- 31:15William law for fields and the new Manor Drive Academy.
- 31:20So yeah, they'll be busy. For us.
- 31:22But if there's anybody out there that's listening, isn't booked
- 31:25on come and come and experience ydp.
- 31:28Yeah, and that's that youth dreams project .co.uk.
- 31:32It's the website, you're after, if you would like to take
- 31:35advantage of that for your, for your child or somebody, you may
- 31:38know that would benefit from attending session, put on by ydp
- 31:43there, as well. I was just going to touch on.
- 31:46You know, you've got the Frozen parties.
- 31:48You've mentioned, you've got the heart term camps coming up.
- 31:50How many sort? Of children.
- 31:52Are you touching? You know, if you have a rough
- 31:54figure, you must be in the hundreds, you know, that you're
- 31:56inspiring in some small way on. So it's a much more than 100
- 32:01because yeah, hundreds, yeah, sorry, much more than hundreds
- 32:05because we've got 20 plus coaches.
- 32:08Now going into like say 36 school.
- 32:11So I'd say, you know, each week we're impacting thousands of
- 32:15young people in the city which is brilliant.
- 32:19Yeah, and again something you feel very proud Alvin giving
- 32:22young children the opportunity to take part in sporting
- 32:26physical activities or or just having some fun and getting away
- 32:29from perhaps, what might be a difficult upbringing for them in
- 32:32their own home environment as well.
- 32:34Yeah, definitely. I mean, you know, of course, we
- 32:37want the children to improve in the sports that we're
- 32:41delivering. But ultimately, we want to
- 32:44impact them in many ways, you know, whether it's a kid that
- 32:47has low self-esteem. We want to deliver sessions and
- 32:50build that relationship, With them where we increase that
- 32:53confidence and and, and self-esteem, you know, if it's a
- 32:57kid that's you know, kind of disruptive in school and maybe
- 33:01their behaviors not great. We want them to look at our
- 33:05coaches as positive role models and will speak to them, you
- 33:08know, during the sessions about Positive Choices.
- 33:11So then hopefully, over time that child's Behavior, does
- 33:15improve and school, look at it and they think, you know what,
- 33:18ydp they deliver great sport sessions, but Lee, they're
- 33:22impacting the young people that they're working with and that
- 33:25for me is, is what we want to do, you know, just as much as
- 33:30deliver, good sport sessions and you've got coaches as an
- 33:33examples of that. I mean, I'm expecting these
- 33:34names but other coaches have come through your, your ranks
- 33:37are so to speak that have been in that similar situation, but
- 33:40they've developed and become young adults that have perhaps
- 33:44straight away from, you know, what they were involved with in
- 33:46their younger, I mean I don't know the exact number without
- 33:52thinking properly, but I can definitely count five of our
- 33:56current coaches as being a part of our sessions as a student,
- 34:03which is brilliant for me, because they've experienced our
- 34:06sessions. They know how we deliver them.
- 34:09They're still young themselves. So they know what makes young
- 34:12people tick and yet to see them. Now as a ydp coaches, Really
- 34:19rewarding. And you know, that's what I'm
- 34:22proud about. Just to see the change that
- 34:24we've had, because some of them, not all of them, but some of
- 34:27them, you know, were going down the wrong path.
- 34:30And we've not only been out to turn that round and, you know,
- 34:35keep them in school. Get them a education.
- 34:38We've actually created a pathway for them to become a ydp coach
- 34:43and now they're positively influencing the Next Generation.
- 34:47Yeah, that's that's wonderful to hear.
- 34:49Errant that, you know, that peer-to-peer support that
- 34:52they'll get similar age children, they'll be looking up
- 34:54to them as well. And look into a Spire hopefully
- 34:56to perhaps become a coach or knowing that there is a way out
- 35:00if they're in difficult circumstances at the moment as
- 35:02well. Definitely we work with so many
- 35:06young people that are facing so many different challenges in
- 35:10their life and you know for us it's about helping them you know
- 35:14we can't solve everything but she can definitely help them.
- 35:19Yeah. And you know understand that
- 35:20there is support for them and you know, whatever their face
- 35:23and you touched on about the other areas Lester Oxford.
- 35:28Cambridge. Yeah, that you sort of branching
- 35:31out into, you must look back on these nine years now and think
- 35:35the small icons and what you what you where you are and
- 35:38coming up to nine years later and having other cities have
- 35:41their ydp brand. It's incredible.
- 35:45Yeah sometimes I can't. How much it's grown and what
- 35:52we're doing. But now that we are doing it on
- 35:56know that we can do, even more can cover, so many more areas,
- 36:00but it's brilliant. You know, I love seeing, you
- 36:03know, young people wearing out brand and wearing it with pride.
- 36:07Yeah, you know, it's really rewarding to see that actually,
- 36:11you know, our logo our badge. It means something to them and
- 36:14they're proud to wear around to where it.
- 36:16Yeah, you've taken the words of my mouth there as well, you
- 36:18know, they feel, Inspired by just putting the perhaps, the
- 36:20hoodie on or put in the, you know, the track it up on,
- 36:22whatever it may be the thing, right?
- 36:24I'm part of something special here and able to inspire younger
- 36:27children as well to achieve, you know, their goals in life as
- 36:30well. Whatever, they may be at such a
- 36:32young age, brilliant, right? What's going to take another
- 36:35short break as we're coming up to quarter to 7:00 this evening,
- 36:39but stay with us and we were back with Luke and more about
- 36:42youth dreams project just after these messages.

- 39:05Good evening, welcome back to PCR Sports.
- 39:07The last quarter of an hour of tonight's show.
- 39:10We're here if every Friday evening between six and seven
- 39:13bringing the latest sporting headlines and news from it in
- 39:16around our city. I've not really mentioned Posh
- 39:18this evening. They're in great form at the
- 39:20moment. I'll just cover them off for
- 39:22three, great wins and a tough game against Bolton tomorrow,
- 39:26another playoff Contender. A big week coming up for Posh if
- 39:29they can win that game tomorrow will then travel up to Fleetwood
- 39:32and more come next week or two away game.
- 39:34Ames and yeah, if we can pick up sort of up seven points, shall
- 39:38we say that will be a fantastic result.
- 39:41I think nine or the outstanding but a tough challenge lies.
- 39:44First head tomorrow against Bolton at the Western home
- 39:48stadium. So if you are going down there,
- 39:49enjoy the game and if you're not you know you can tune in to the
- 39:52radio and socials just to keep abreast of how Posh are doing
- 39:56tomorrow afternoon. But I guess this evening is
- 39:59Luke, Kennedy co-founder of Youth dreams project.
- 40:02He started the project. And alongside Luke Steele nine
- 40:07years ago, this coming Monday and he's been talking about the
- 40:10great work that they're doing not just in our city, but having
- 40:13branched out a little further. Now towards Leicester, Oxford
- 40:16and Cambridge and just in the break, he was talking to me
- 40:20about something called mindmatters.
- 40:23Luke. Do you want to elaborate on
- 40:24that? For me, please.
- 40:26Yesterday during lockdown, we created mind matters because
- 40:31obviously it was a time when, you know, Aunt.
- 40:35Sorry, people were struggling, you know, young people old
- 40:39people, lots of different people were struggling with different
- 40:42things. So we ran lots of Fitness
- 40:46sessions, quizzes, interaction sessions with young people and
- 40:53adults during lockdown. And obviously, when we started
- 40:56to come out a lockdown, we fought, you know, what we need
- 40:59to do something that's going to continue here.
- 41:01So we created a program called Mind matters.
- 41:04Where we now have presentations on a, on a whole host of topics
- 41:10that we deliver in senior schools mainly.
- 41:14So we've got presentations on stuff like drugs knife, crime
- 41:18internet. So safety county lines
- 41:22aspirations positive role models and so on and obviously we pitch
- 41:28them relevant to the school and the area and the children that
- 41:33we're working with. With because, you know,
- 41:36obviously sport can positively impact the mind, but we wanted
- 41:40to start, you know, going a little bit deeper than that and
- 41:43deliver sessions. Yeah.
- 41:44Within a classroom environment me and it's been a positive
- 41:46uptake with that, as well in the local, local community.
- 41:50Yeah, it's amazing. You know, we're now delivering
- 41:54in nearly, every senior School in the city, with that program.
- 41:59So they come the, the children at the school.
- 42:02Pick, come to us, we Classroom-based session where we
- 42:07talked about a certain topic and that change is obviously every
- 42:10week. And then we have a session
- 42:12straight after that, which is a sport session so they get into,
- 42:16you know, a classroom based session, and then a sport
- 42:18session. So, it's brilliant.
- 42:20It's great, you know, to see the interaction of the kids and, you
- 42:23know, start educating them on different topics and hopefully,
- 42:28you know, see that positive change?
- 42:30Yeah. Perhaps.
- 42:31As you say, yes, it's a classroom setting, but taking
- 42:34them from Um, away from that school setting.
- 42:36It's so to speak as well, change their mindset, a little bit as
- 42:39well. Definitely, you hit the nail on
- 42:41the head because, you know, schools can deliver what we're
- 42:45delivering. But because it's a member of
- 42:48school staff, there's always that barrier.
- 42:51But obviously with us. Why do you pee being recognized
- 42:54in the city? You know, the young people
- 42:57looking at us as positive role models and, you know, we're
- 43:00coming into the school. They don't see us as a member of
- 43:03school staff. So there is Barrier.
- 43:05You know, the guards down straight away and they start
- 43:09opening up and yeah, that's where we start.
- 43:12You know, educate and start seeing positive.
- 43:16Yeah, changes. And you know, these fun sport is
- 43:20part of that still, but it's more about that classroom-based
- 43:23learning as well. And the opportunity for young
- 43:25adults to express themselves where they may not well do at
- 43:29home or to their teacher, definitely, you know, they tend
- 43:34to Yup. More to us.
- 43:36You know they feel comfortable in that environment because it's
- 43:39a much smaller group. So yeah, it's been a really
- 43:44positive program, okay? And if anybody listening tonight
- 43:47and school teachers perhaps or parents and other organizations
- 43:51want to get hold of you for that particular project, it got some
- 43:54details that you can just hand out so they've got them turned.
- 43:56Yeah, so they can look on our website which is obviously youth
- 43:59dreams project .co.uk they can contact me directly.
- 44:04On my phone which is 0 7 5 8 3 6, double 8 for 13, they can
- 44:11email me Loop dot Kennedy at youth dreams project .co.uk and
- 44:16then we're on social media, Facebook, Instagram, and check
- 44:20out. So there's no excuse in a way
- 44:22that it just even Googling you screams projects and
- 44:25Peterborough. A can that's really encouraging
- 44:27to hear we touched on coaches in the earlier part of the show, as
- 44:32well, and the development of coaches coming.
- 44:34Through from being students initially and then becoming
- 44:36coaches. You're always on the lookout for
- 44:38coaches. No doubt.
- 44:39Yeah, we're definitely on the lookout at the moment.
- 44:42We probably need one or two new coaches and they don't have to
- 44:47be young and they don't have to have been a part of our sessions
- 44:50that we've delivered. They can be, you know, older we
- 44:53have got some, you know, older code I'll say holder, which is
- 44:58in the mid to late twenties and thirties and we've even got a
- 45:02couple in their forties. So yeah.
- 45:05We're always looking for coaches.
- 45:06If they're passionate about working with young people,
- 45:11they've got knowledge and experience in sport, then get in
- 45:14touch because, you know, it's a great place to work and we've
- 45:19got a really positive environment and it doesn't have
- 45:22to be football just to reiterate, as well.
- 45:23It could be a, you know, a range of sports, that you cover,
- 45:26basketball dance, whatever, you know, as long as they've got
- 45:30experience in it, then yeah. Getting taught me a doors open.
- 45:34And come and have a chat with you.
- 45:36Yeah, brilliant stuff. So, you've talked about some of
- 45:39the mental side in the mindmatters, you talked about
- 45:41coaches there as well. The opportunity for scholarships
- 45:44as well, potentially opening up. Yeah, sure.
- 45:47So we currently run to scholarship programs boys sports
- 45:51scholarship program in partnership with such on fish
- 45:54and school when it goes one in partnership with stanground
- 45:57Academy. And how that works is we're
- 46:00looking for students that have are currently in school year 11.
- 46:06And they would then join us in year 12 and they would take a
- 46:11sports course and they can take other courses alongside that and
- 46:16the schools that we work in partnership with deliver the
- 46:19education side and then each day, they'll they'll train with
- 46:23us. So they'll play football.
- 46:24Be part of a football team. And each week they compete in
- 46:28the National College league. So they have a fixture as well,
- 46:32and then they get coaching experience with us.
- 46:34They Come into the schools Shadow Al coaches, we put them
- 46:38through additional coaching qualifications.
- 46:41And then at the end of that two year program, you know, they
- 46:44have a qualification that enables them to go to university
- 46:47or some might want to join us as a coach or something like just
- 46:51you know go into the Working World and get a job or an
- 46:54apprenticeship but they've been put on that career path.
- 46:58As though to speak by being involved with my DP at that
- 47:01point. Exactly that.
- 47:02And like I said, earlier in, Conversation for me.
- 47:06It's not just about that education and playing football,
- 47:09it's teaching them life skills. Because you know, when I was
- 47:13part of the Peterborough, United Academy, you know, the coaches
- 47:17that I had and, you know, the skills that they taught me of,
- 47:22of stood me in good stead for where I am today.
- 47:26Yeah. And that's how why do you pee
- 47:28came to fruition? You and Luke Steele over a over
- 47:32a coffee Very quickly hopes for the future.
- 47:39Obviously growing it into other cities and I guess that's where
- 47:42your focus May well be over the next five to ten years as well.
- 47:45To give children further afield from Peterborough the
- 47:48opportunity to develop. Yeah I think locally here in
- 47:52Peterborough is to maintain what we've got add you know more
- 47:57schools to it because we can still definitely do that.
- 48:01Keep the standard and the quality of the Live free and the
- 48:05service that we provide and then looking beyond that is
- 48:10definitely to franchise out more.
- 48:12So if we, you know, if we can get in more cities, free five
- 48:16cities in the next five years. That'd be great.
- 48:20And yet just keep positively, impacting young people of
- 48:24people, I think look something up.
- 48:26Well there that it's the impact that ydp has on young children,
- 48:31young adults, giving them the opportunity to take part in.
- 48:34Ports. They may not want have done
- 48:35before and just an opportunity to develop their professional
- 48:40careers through the skills that they learn at ydp.
