- 0:00Grand Touring Motorsports started as a social group of car enthusiasts,
- 0:04but we've expanded into all sorts of motorsports disciplines, and we
- 0:08want to share our stories with you.
- 0:10Years of racing, wrenching, and motorsports experience brings
- 0:13together a top notch collection of knowledge and information
- 0:17through our podcast, Brake Fix.
- 0:19Can you imagine a world where ladies and gentlemen start your engines?
- 0:29doesn't have the same meaning as it used to?
- 0:32Many of our guests, when asked the pit stop question, what would be different
- 0:37once the evolution has taken hold, their overwhelming consensus is the
- 0:42lack of sound, which begs the question, what if there was no sound in racing?
- 0:48What attracted me to racing, one of the things, is the sound.
- 0:51The sound!
- 0:52I don't care if it's a Super Dos Wigo, a V12 Ferrari, something in between.
- 0:57It's the sound.
- 0:57And there is no sound with electric.
- 1:00Now, Van Donley's developing some electric sprint cars, I guess,
- 1:03to run at his, uh, track up in Syracuse and maybe that'll be cool.
- 1:07But again, if you take the sound away to me, that you've taken away
- 1:10a very large portion of what we're all learning in the tower now to go.
- 1:19That's sound I've ever heard.
- 1:20What's up during the six hours in the K and M series where the two
- 1:25classes were allowed to race together, Porsche six cylinders, Ferrari V12s.
- 1:29Big block Chevys, small block Chevys, all resonating off the
- 1:33trees coming into the boot section.
- 1:35It was like a symphony, I'll never forget it.
- 1:37One of the best things I've ever heard.
- 1:39In this special episode of Break Fix, we take you, the listener, on a journey
- 1:43through an entire race weekend at Road Atlanta and explore all the different ways
- 1:48that sound influences the race experience.
- 1:50The
- 2:4250, 000 for winning this championship, and yes, I'm sure you can do it with 50, 000.
- 2:48For second place, you get 80 grams.
- 2:50And 80 grams is enough to run a few seasons in these cars, but
- 2:55it's still not that true, is it?
- 2:57Well, yeah, I don't mind.
- 2:58Remember, you could take it as I've said before.
- 3:01Alright, that's it.
- 3:02Our place will be here very soon.
- 3:07We're about to take the train to Newport, We're about to take the train to Newport,
- 3:20Newport Newport will be going to Newport.
- 3:25Newport will be going to Newport.
- 3:30my video.
- 3:37The announcers will always be there, with the hustle and bustle of the
- 3:41paddock and pit boxes, with small engine generators, golf carts, and
- 3:45equipment always in the background.
- 3:47Do you hear that low rumble of idling V8s?
- 3:50And what about that lap after lap buzz of the pack rushing by?
- 3:54Oh, Carderly, straight for the championship.
- 3:59Jarrett Thomas, in second position, third, Salim
- 5:41Ullam, fourth, Freshwater, fifth, 57th, then, the, rookie, of, the public,
- 5:49that's up there, in the background.
- 5:56The storm is coming, and there is this crescendo before the start of any race.
- 6:01You don't just hear it, you feel it.
- 7:19And what of the distinct sound of the 9 11s during a cup race?
- 7:24The
- 8:04crackle and pop of downshifts and unburnt fuel backfiring, with exhaust
- 8:08notes trailing off in the distance.
- 9:40The sounds of preparation probably won't change.
- 9:44But what is there to warm up when electric motors are ready to go immediately?
- 11:16Excitement begins to mount as your favorite driver and their vehicle
- 11:20make their debut on pit road, heading out on the track for practice.
- 11:25You can almost single out each brand from Porsche to Corvette, Ferrari,
- 11:29Lamborghini, Mercedes, Cadillac, Acura.
- 11:33And everything in between.
- 13:20The reverberation of engines at full song.
- 13:23Flat plane cranked V8s.
- 13:25Turbo boxer 6s.
- 13:27High strung V10s.
- 13:29And monstrous ground thumping muscle motors.
- 13:31Each with their own distinct pitch.
- 13:34What does the engine of the future sound like?
- 13:36Will you be able to tell them apart?
- 14:24There's something comforting about the racetrack.
- 14:26And after a long day, many of us sleep really, really well.
- 14:30But it's finally race day.
- 14:32There's always the sobering quiet compared to the previous days.
- 14:36Less chaos as the teams and drivers are getting more serious
- 14:40in preparation for qualifying.
- 14:45Moto has brought a lubricant analysis machine machine, 24th annual Moto
- 14:51Lamont to both help competitors.
- 14:54Finish line and provide free oil analysis to racing fans.
- 14:58Racing lab is a state of the art mobile laboratory capable of analyzing the
- 15:03lubricants running in your engine.
- 15:04Now, what will these analyses bring to you?
- 15:08Well, this predictive tool will allow you to organize your
- 15:10vehicle's maintenance schedule.
- 15:12The Motul Racing Lab can also Search for metal elements present in the lubricant
- 15:16to detect premature or accelerated engine wear and thus know if it's necessary
- 15:20to carry out replacements of parts.
- 15:21You will analyze the composition of the lubricant in use to highlight any
- 15:25coolant leaks or fuel dilution that may damage the engine and limit its
- 15:29performance with a pre oil analysis.
- 15:31The remote racing lab in the fan zone.
- 15:33You can follow the evolution of these factors daily and recognize
- 15:37the development of lubricant agents and degradation due to
- 15:41extreme conditions of use from
- 15:50the outside.
- 15:51Everybody seems to be scrambling to be the first ones out.
- 15:55The first one's with clear track.
- 15:57The first one's with clean air.
- 15:59The sound of the track has changed.
- 16:01You can hear it all around you.
- 16:02It's time for best and final laps.
- 19:03Teams frantically practice and repeat pit stops, refueling, as
- 19:07well as tire and driver changes.
- 19:10During the race, there's no second chances.
- 19:12Every second counts.
- 19:14And you have to be as close to perfect as possible.
- 19:51Staying in one place might give you the best vantage point for viewing the race,
- 19:55but does it evoke the same feeling?
- 19:58This next clip is taken from the Road Atlanta start finish bridge
- 20:01as the cars pass underneath.
- 20:04It's intense, and more so when you're standing there as the sound of
- 20:08each car echoes through your chest.
- 22:34Multiclass GT and prototype racing is one of the few disciplines of motorsport
- 22:38where you can get up close and personal.
- 22:41With the cars, the drivers, and the entire experience.
- 22:44It's not circus and pageantry from a distance.
- 22:47You are shoulder to shoulder with thousands of other petrolheads, on grid,
- 22:52before the start of the main event.
- 23:31There's always this constant hum and movement throughout the paddock.
- 23:35Even during opening ceremonies.
- 23:37Maybe in the future, that background noise won't be there.
- 23:42Brothers and sisters, I love you today.
- 23:43Would you please just quiet your hearts and pray with me.
- 23:47Heavenly Father, we thank you so much for this glorious and beautiful
- 23:50day, sunshine, this awesome weather, and us all here together.
- 23:54Lord, I pray today on this Veterans Weekend that you would bless and
- 23:59honor our veterans, that you would strengthen them, help them, give
- 24:02them everything that they need.
- 24:03Thank you for their service.
- 24:05And may their families be encouraged today.
- 24:07I pray that your glory would be here in this entire vicinity and should bless
- 24:13each and every each and every driver, every crew and everyone here today.
- 24:17May your warrior fighting angels surround and protect on every side.
- 24:21Strengthen these drivers to race their very best today.
- 24:24Let them feel the life of God at every turn.
- 24:27And we thank you and we praise you in the name of the most high God.
- 24:30Amen.
- 24:31Yeah, thank you.
- 24:34Please welcome the report.
- 24:35Of today's French national anthem, Jeffrey La.
- 25:54Please remain standing for the singing of our national anthem,
- 25:57performed today by Amanda Athens.
- 25:59Oh
- 26:19What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
- 26:24Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight
- 26:30O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
- 26:36And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air Gave proof through the
- 26:44night that our flag was still there
- 27:03And
- 27:46now, ladies and gentle listeners.
- 27:49It's time for what we've all been waiting for.
- 27:52It
- 27:57is the final of the four most famous words in motorsports.
- 28:02Welcome back our Grand Marshal, Joey Camerota, from Motutal Technical
- 28:07Support, as he gives today's command.
- 28:09Drivers, start your engines!
- 28:11And with that, ladies and gentlemen,
- 28:19it's the engine spring to life for this 24th running of the MotoGP Le
- 28:24Mans at Michelin Raceway World Class in the season finale of the 2021 IMSA
- 28:29WeatherTech Sports Car Championship.
- 28:32Thank you for the call for the next 10 hours, please.
- 28:35Welcome back in progress.
- 28:37Call from Kipsa radio with John Heindock, Jeremy Shaw and Kay Adams.
- 28:43Welcome along.
- 30:43As the safety car pulls into the pits to release the anxious drivers, just when
- 30:48you thought the noise around you was at its climax, It all seems to break loose.
- 30:53The race is on.
- 30:55Just 12 short hours to go until the checkered flag.
- 34:55Even as the sun sets and the temperatures drop, there is no shortage of fans.
- 35:00Watching, waiting, camping, and celebrating at nearly
- 35:04every corner of the track.
- 35:06The area between turns six and seven at Road Atlanta is a great place to
- 35:10be, but the sound is near deafening, albeit amazing, as the cars pour on
- 35:16the speed down the back straightaway.
- 36:32Surrounded by darkness, The drivers soldier on, fighting for every
- 36:36second, every lap, every position.
- 36:39Oddly enough, the darker it gets, the louder the track seems to become.
- 36:44There is no sleep for the fans.
- 36:45The
- 38:12race is reaching its end, and you can hear the drivers pushing
- 38:16harder in those last moments.
- 38:17The engines straining, the brakes screeching, tires squealing,
- 38:22exhausts rumbling and popping.
- 38:25Take a moment and ask yourself, does this exist in the future?
- 40:01And just like that, it's all over almost as quickly as it began.
- 40:07A somber silence and calm has returned to the track.
- 40:10The results are in, and all that you hear now are the low mumbles
- 40:15and murmurs of fans making their way home from this spectacle of speed.
- 40:20And as we take a moment to reflect on this race, or any race you've
- 40:24been to, imagine a future where these sounds aren't part of the experience.
- 40:28Does that matter to you?
- 40:30How will it change the way you look at racing events in the future?
- 40:33Are you more or less likely to be there in person?
- 40:37Unfortunately, we don't know what the future holds, but we
- 40:40can hope that motorsports will continue to have a place in it.
- 40:45And as we've said before, There's a very good chance that the last petrol powered
- 40:49car to be driven will be a race car.
