Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: This is Kevin Daly from Radio Folkestone, and I'm up
- 0:02Speaker 1: at the William Harvey Hospital today, and I'm here for
- 0:05Speaker 1: a special event. I'm joined now by Paul Cousins. Good morning, Paul.
- 0:08Speaker 1: Good morning, Kev. All right? Yeah, good, thanks. Now, Paul,
- 0:13Speaker 1: we know what you're doing, but just briefly describe to
- 0:16Speaker 1: our listeners what's going on today.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Yeah, so today I'm going to do a 32-mile ultramarathon
- 0:21Speaker 2: between three hospitals. I'm going to start at the William
- 0:25Speaker 2: Harvey in Ashford, then stop off at the Kenton Canterbury
- 0:30Speaker 2: And then from there, finish up at the QEQM in Margate.
- 0:33Speaker 1: All right, so quite a feat. And looking at the weather,
- 0:36Speaker 1: at the moment, it's very kind to you, but you've
- 0:38Speaker 1: got a long shift ahead of you, haven't you? How
- 0:39Speaker 1: long do you think it might take you?
- 0:41Speaker 2: Well, I'm hopeful to do it in under eight hours,
- 0:44Speaker 2: but I've said it to you before, Kevin, you know,
- 0:46Speaker 2: the time is irrelevant. It's the challenge, my friend. Yeah.
- 0:49Speaker 1: And what exactly is the challenge and why are you
- 0:52Speaker 1: running today?
- 0:53Speaker 2: Yeah, so as we discussed on your program before, I'm
- 0:55Speaker 2: a recovering alcoholic. I was taken into the QEQM by
- 0:59Speaker 2: ambulance and that place saved my life. And then bizarrely enough,
- 1:04Speaker 2: I ended up working there and I still work there
- 1:06Speaker 2: as a porter. So aiming to give back.
- 1:09Speaker 1: Brilliant. And the charity, what's the charity called?
- 1:12Speaker 2: Yeah, it's East Kent Hospitals Charity. So it works with
- 1:16Speaker 2: all of the hospitals in the East Kent Foundation. So, yeah,
- 1:19Speaker 2: they're going to help out a lot of people with
- 1:21Speaker 2: the money we raise.
- 1:22Speaker 1: And how much is the target? How is it going
- 1:24Speaker 1: so far?
- 1:24Speaker 2: So I set a target of £ 1, 000, and as it stands,
- 1:27Speaker 2: we're at just over £ 2, 500.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Oh, that is brilliant, Paul. That's brilliant. So that adds
- 1:32Speaker 1: a little bit of pressure, I suppose. But, I mean,
- 1:35Speaker 1: I can see you're sort of loosening up and raring
- 1:37Speaker 1: to go, and you must be looking forward to this.
- 1:40Speaker 2: I am looking forward to it. I mean, it wouldn't
- 1:42Speaker 2: be normal if I wasn't apprehensive and a little bit nervous,
- 1:45Speaker 2: but that's all good. It's a challenge I set myself,
- 1:48Speaker 2: so I know I will finish it. Like I say,
- 1:51Speaker 2: eight hours would be great, but if it's ten, so
- 1:53Speaker 2: be it.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Paul, you're a fine example to everybody, recovering alcoholic to
- 1:58Speaker 1: a porter, patient to porter, as it says on your T-shirt.
- 2:01Speaker 1: All we can do is wish you all the best
- 2:02Speaker 1: from Radio Folkestone, and have a great day, and just
- 2:06Speaker 1: go after yourself.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Thanks very much.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Thank you.
