- 0:01We see something with our eyes or hear something with our ears
- 0:07and we believe that we know that it is an external reality, which
- 0:12we all perceive and can agree upon.
- 0:16We put in a separate category, those things that we perceive
- 0:21through forms of, knowing that do not depend on sense,
- 0:24perception, and, which are not subject to validation by others
- 0:29automatically. If we examine what we truly know
- 0:33and how we know it eventually we have to conclude that whether
- 0:38the impulses external or internal it is referred to the
- 0:43brain through a series of electrical and chemical impulses
- 0:47that the brain then tries to interpret.
- 0:51We do not actually directly know what we perceive externally but
- 0:57only know it because an Impulse has been sent to our nervous.
- 1:01System and been interpreted. It is possible, in fact to
- 1:07directly create impulses in the brain, which mimic external
- 1:12stimuli. And thus, what we, then believe
- 1:16we have seen or heard is actually just an electrical
- 1:19impulse in the brain, not an actual external object.
- 1:25Additionally, since everything is subject to interpretation, in
- 1:29order to be known, we frequently find that misperceptions or
- 1:34misinterpretation provide us a false view of reality.
- 1:41We perceive the Sun moving around the Earth, but in fact,
- 1:46this common knowledge has been debunked.
- 1:50And we now can intellectually understand that what we see with
- 1:53our eyes in the external world is not being interpreted
- 1:58accurately. And thus, we fall into falsehood
- 2:03with our external perceptions while we believe that we all can
- 2:09agree on certain objective observations.
- 2:11In fact, the courtrooms of this world are Rife with multiple
- 2:16percipient Witnesses. Who disagree on what actually
- 2:21happened. So even this test of
- 2:24objectivity, eventually Falls This brings us to subjective
- 2:30knowledge. All our external Perceptions in
- 2:34the end turn into subjective knowledge.
- 2:38Does it really matter in the end, whether this subjective
- 2:42knowledge comes through an Impulse traveling up the nervous
- 2:45path from the external sensory organs or whether we experience
- 2:51something directly in the mind. We do not perceive for instance,
- 2:56emotions with the senses but we nevertheless all attest to the
- 3:01reality of the emotions. We experience.
- 3:05Similarly, we do not experience thought through the sense
- 3:09organs, but directly in the mind.
- 3:12Generally, as a type of voice, that we hear internally.
- 3:17Thought nevertheless is a real experience that has effects in
- 3:22the external world. We now recognize the mind as the
- 3:27ultimate organ of perception. And while we generally agree on
- 3:32five external sense, organs can we definitively exclude other
- 3:37perception mechanisms including direct mental perception.
- 3:43SRI, aurobindo observes, quote, subjective Visions can be as
- 3:48real as object of sight. The only difference is that one
- 3:53is of real things in material space while the others are of
- 3:58real things belonging to other planes, down to the subtle
- 4:02physical, even symbolic Visions are real insofar as they are
- 4:07symbols of realities. Even dreams can have a reality
- 4:11in the subtle domain Visions are unreal.
- 4:15Only when these are mere imaginative.
- 4:18Mental, formations not representing.
- 4:21Anything that is true or was true.
- 4:24Or is going to be true. This power of vision, is
- 4:29sometimes, inborn and habitual even without any effort of
- 4:33development. Sometimes it wakes up of itself
- 4:37and becomes abundant or needs only a little practice to
- 4:41develop. It is not necessarily a sign of
- 4:44spiritual attainment. But usually, when by practice of
- 4:49yoga, one begins to go inside or live within the power of subtle
- 4:54Vision, awakes to a greater or lesser extent.
- 4:58But this does not always happen easily.
- 5:01Especially if one has been habituated to live much in the
- 5:06intellect or in an outward, vital Consciousness and quote
